And 'throat' is la gorge. La gorge. Luna: La gorge. That sounds like 'gorge' in English, but it's throat. Lucas: Exactly. And the back of the neck — the nape — is la nuque. La nuque. Luna: La nuque. Like when you get a massage right there. Lucas: Yes, very common. And then there are les cordes vocales — the vocal cords. Les cordes vocales. Luna: Les cordes vocales. That's a mouthful, but I'll get it. Lucas: You will. Now, since you have a sore throat, here's a useful phrase: j'ai mal à la gorge. I have a sore throat. Luna: J'ai mal à la gorge. So that's 'I have pain in the throat.' Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice: j'ai mal à la gorge. Luna: J'ai mal à la gorge. Lucas: Perfect. And if your neck hurts, you'd say j'ai mal au cou. Luna: J'ai mal au cou. So 'à le' becomes 'au' — got it. Lucas: Yes. Now let's do a little scene. Imagine you're at the doctor's. The doctor asks: Qu'est-ce qui ne va pas? What's wrong? Luna: J'ai mal à la gorge. Lucas: And the doctor might say: Ouvrez la bouche. Open your mouth. And look at your throat. Luna: Ouvrez la bouche. I remember that from previous episodes. Lucas: See, you're building up. Let's say the words again: le cou, la gorge, la nuque, les cordes vocales. Luna: Le cou, la gorge, la nuque, les cordes vocales. Lucas: And the phrase j'ai mal à la gorge. Luna: J'ai mal à la gorge. Lucas: Now a quick story. Yesterday I had a bit of a cold, and I told my friend: J'ai mal à la gorge et j'ai mal au cou.
