- 0:50Speaker 3: How are you, sir?
- 0:52Speaker 1: Good. How have you guys been?
- 0:54Speaker 3: Man, you know, I'm not going to lie. It was
- 0:56Speaker 3: a tense Saturday night watching Utah on the road against
- 1:00Speaker 3: Colorado in what I thought was going to be kind
- 1:02Speaker 3: of a gimme game for the Utes. And I know
- 1:04Speaker 3: they can't have that mentality. I can as just an observer.
- 1:08Speaker 3: And ultimately, the Buffs gave Utah a lot to think about.
- 1:13Speaker 3: You were up there watching it in person close. What
- 1:17Speaker 3: happened with Utah? Why was this game so close?
- 1:21Speaker 1: You know, I think I give a lot of credit
- 1:27Speaker 1: to Colorado, honestly. When you talk about a team coming
- 1:30Speaker 1: off of a bye week, they have a lot of
- 1:33Speaker 1: time to self-scout, look at things internally on themselves, and
- 1:39Speaker 1: also at the same time have a lot of time
- 1:41Speaker 1: to just study what we like to do, what we
- 1:45Speaker 1: struggled with, and things of that nature on both sides
- 1:47Speaker 1: of the ball. You know, and this team, they've been
- 1:50Speaker 1: in some tight games. Obviously, they won their first two
- 1:53Speaker 1: games of the year. You know, they've been in some
- 1:56Speaker 1: situations where they've been in some tight games, some one-score games,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and they just seem to have lost them late in
- 2:03Speaker 1: the fourth quarter. So this team was, you know, really competitive.
- 2:07Speaker 1: And you give a team like that some more time
- 2:09Speaker 1: kind of a bye week. They were ready to go.
- 2:11Speaker 1: It was at home. You know, everything was in their favor.
- 2:14Speaker 1: You know, but, you know, we also didn't come out
- 2:18Speaker 1: really sharp at all on either side of the ball
- 2:21Speaker 1: almost for a lot of that game. So that was
- 2:26Speaker 1: a tricky game, but the main thing is that we
- 2:30Speaker 1: got a win and we were able to get out
- 2:31Speaker 1: of Boulder.
- 2:33Speaker 3: And I do want to stay focused on that. This
- 2:35Speaker 3: is the top 10 team in the country. They are
- 2:37Speaker 3: still undefeated. Got a lot to look forward to, but
- 2:42Speaker 3: there were times in this game, and again, the third
- 2:44Speaker 3: quarter has proven to be a bit of an issue
- 2:46Speaker 3: for this university of Utah football team. They're outscored 17
- 2:50Speaker 3: to seven, 17 of those were unanswered points for Colorado
- 2:54Speaker 3: after the half. And then Utah got one late in
- 2:57Speaker 3: the quarter. And you know, it's, it's just, it's the
- 3:00Speaker 3: only quarter that Utah has been outscored in. Obviously they're undefeated.
- 3:05Speaker 3: And we talked about it a couple of weeks ago,
- 3:07Speaker 3: heading into the bi-week and we got to talk about
- 3:09Speaker 3: it again. There's just, there's something about the way this
- 3:12Speaker 3: team comes out of the half that leaves something, to
- 3:16Speaker 3: be desired. Is it fixable if we're halfway through a
- 3:19Speaker 3: season and they haven't fixed it already?
- 3:20Speaker 1: Speaker 3 Yeah. It's a little worrisome. I would say,
- 3:26Speaker 1: you know, some reason seems like all of our best
- 3:30Speaker 1: football is played in the first half. Um, and really
- 3:36Speaker 1: good team, great teams are able to put four quarters
- 3:40Speaker 1: of ball together, uh, and not just, you know, two
- 3:43Speaker 1: quarters or two and a half or three quarters. And,
- 3:46Speaker 1: you know, we, we, we, we find ourselves in this
- 3:48Speaker 1: spot already a lot of times this season. Um, so
- 3:53Speaker 1: it's not a, it's not something that I'm, panicking on,
- 3:57Speaker 1: I would say, but it is something that I wouldn't
- 3:59Speaker 1: say is a bit worrisome because, you know, the schedule,
- 4:04Speaker 1: especially in the right now with these next three weeks, essentially,
- 4:08Speaker 1: we've got some row teams and got some battles that,
- 4:14Speaker 1: you know, you'll get punished for not being able to
- 4:17Speaker 1: play a full, full quarters.
- 4:23Speaker 3: In
- 4:26Speaker 3: this one, no big, like breakout 90 yarder, which of
- 4:30Speaker 3: course you can't expect every single week, just more steady
- 4:33Speaker 3: work from way Sean Parker in the run game. And
- 4:35Speaker 3: there was, there were stretches in the game where it
- 4:38Speaker 3: felt like maybe they forgot about him a little bit.
- 4:40Speaker 3: His longest carry was only 14 yards. And I shouldn't
- 4:43Speaker 3: say only cause he, he almost had a hundred, one
- 4:45Speaker 3: more carry. He would have eclipsed that 100 mark a
- 4:48Speaker 3: really good day, but more of a workman like performance. What,
- 4:52Speaker 3: what separates the days where you have the big you know, 30, 40,
- 4:56Speaker 3: 50 yarder and the days that go more like this
- 4:59Speaker 3: one where it's more just dink and dunk and plugging
- 5:02Speaker 3: away to get the yardage?
- 5:05Speaker 1: Well, I think the main thing is, you know, he
- 5:10Speaker 1: was keyed on a lot versus Colorado, right? That's why
- 5:14Speaker 1: coming out of the bye week, right, they know exactly
- 5:17Speaker 1: what you want to do and things of that nature. And,
- 5:20Speaker 1: I mean, they blitzed the run, right? a ton on Saturday. And,
- 5:28Speaker 1: you know, that makes it really hard for a bag.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I think he had, you know, a little bit over 20,
- 5:32Speaker 1: maybe 22, 23 carries and something like that for 98 yards.
- 5:37Speaker 1: And that's just an absolute result of a team selling
- 5:42Speaker 1: out and run, blessing you and trying to take him away.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Cause he's, When he's able to make those big explosive
- 5:49Speaker 1: runs and things of that nature, that puts the defense
- 5:51Speaker 1: on its heels, that opens up so many different things
- 5:55Speaker 1: for a passing game and things of that nature. So
- 5:58Speaker 1: they were able to, wouldn't say they bottled them up, right?
- 6:00Speaker 1: I think, you know, 23 carries, 98 yards, still a
- 6:04Speaker 1: pretty good outing, especially when you get a win. And,
- 6:08Speaker 1: you know, they did all they could to take him
- 6:10Speaker 1: out of the offense and to limit his explosiveness. But
- 6:14Speaker 1: that's where the games were. You know, now our passing
- 6:16Speaker 1: game has to step up and be a real threat.
- 6:20Speaker 1: And part of the reason we struggled versus Colorado was
- 6:24Speaker 1: we just didn't really get the passing game, at least
- 6:27Speaker 1: the big shots, the explosives in the passing game that
- 6:31Speaker 1: we were missing because we didn't get them in the
- 6:32Speaker 1: run game this week.
- 6:36Speaker 3: I know that you're, you know, you played the running
- 6:38Speaker 3: back position, but you diagnosed a lot of defenses in
- 6:40Speaker 3: order to make your own career more successful. This was
- 6:44Speaker 3: a quiet game from the Utah defense. Now it hasn't
- 6:47Speaker 3: been star player driven, right? They've kind of like divided
- 6:50Speaker 3: up the explosive plays on defense to have it plays
- 6:53Speaker 3: on defense almost evenly across the board, but there were
- 6:57Speaker 3: none against Colorado. And I know that we got to
- 7:00Speaker 3: give respect to this Colorado football team for showing up
- 7:02Speaker 3: and competing, but They had nine tackles for loss and
- 7:06Speaker 3: three sacks and a bunch of PBUs. They had nine,
- 7:09Speaker 3: in fact, passes defended. And this was just a silent
- 7:15Speaker 3: day from the Utah defense. Did you see anything on
- 7:17Speaker 3: that side of the ball that had you scratching your head?
- 7:20Speaker 3: Or maybe you figured it out. What was wrong?
- 7:23Speaker 1: I think the main thing that, you know, a lot
- 7:26Speaker 1: of people are saying they're not worried about it. It's
- 7:27Speaker 1: not a big deal. But, you know, this school has
- 7:31Speaker 1: had a a long list of guys who are able
- 7:35Speaker 1: to get to the quarterback. It doesn't matter if those
- 7:38Speaker 1: guys were guys that were, you know, specifically really good
- 7:43Speaker 1: just at the collegiate level, also were able to go
- 7:46Speaker 1: and make career or become even better at that next level.
- 7:49Speaker 1: But we've had guys been able to get to the passer.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I mean, to the quarterback. And this year, we don't.
- 7:55Speaker 1: We just absolutely don't. You know, obviously losing a guy like,
- 8:01Speaker 1: I think it was John Daly to Michigan last year.
- 8:07Speaker 1: That's a lot of sacks. And no one has stepped
- 8:10Speaker 1: up to that plate. You know, it's alarming to me because,
- 8:15Speaker 1: you know, essentially... we haven't played any real threat teams, right?
- 8:23Speaker 1: So the number of sacks you would think would be
- 8:26Speaker 1: a lot higher, right? When you're not playing, you know,
- 8:30Speaker 1: Utah State and the Idaho's and the Arkansas's and things
- 8:35Speaker 1: of that nature, especially when you look at the score
- 8:36Speaker 1: of those games and the Kansas game, right? You look
- 8:39Speaker 1: at the score of those games and understand that these
- 8:41Speaker 1: teams have to pass the ball and we're not getting
- 8:43Speaker 1: to the quarterback, no matter if we're winning, no matter
- 8:46Speaker 1: if we're playing really good against the run and things
- 8:48Speaker 1: of that nature, right. At some point, not being able
- 8:52Speaker 1: to get to the quarterback does come back and bite
- 8:55Speaker 1: you in your backside. And with a Houston team coming
- 8:59Speaker 1: in with a high power offense, you know, the first
- 9:05Speaker 1: couple of weeks, it's like, okay, okay. But now it's,
- 9:09Speaker 1: this thing is, you know, right here in these, not
- 9:13Speaker 1: being able to get these sacks and get pressure consistently
- 9:18Speaker 1: and move the quarterback off the pocket is something that
- 9:21Speaker 1: continues to show up. And, you know, that's why, you know,
- 9:25Speaker 1: the young kid Wilson was able to do some things
- 9:27Speaker 1: in the passing game again. And, you know, he's kind
- 9:29Speaker 1: of had our defense on the hills. But I guess
- 9:32Speaker 1: also at the same time, our secondary is pretty good.
- 9:36Speaker 1: secondary without the pass rush has been you know been
- 9:40Speaker 1: able to hold up really well so far throughout the
- 9:44Speaker 1: year so hopefully we get some pass rush out of
- 9:48Speaker 1: nowhere right because it would be like a shot in
- 9:51Speaker 1: the arm right now so we need it because like
- 9:54Speaker 1: I said you know this Houston team coming in does
- 9:56Speaker 1: every single thing you want to offer us to do. And,
- 9:59Speaker 1: you know, they're not scared of a team who can't
- 10:02Speaker 1: get to the quarterback.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Let's talk about that. Houston coming in, uh, it's a
- 10:08Speaker 3: night game again, but it is also college game day, right?
- 10:11Speaker 3: Big atmosphere, a lot of attention, top 15 matchup, Utah's 10,
- 10:15Speaker 3: Houston is 14. And We don't only take last week
- 10:21Speaker 3: as the example, but Houston played a really tough game
- 10:23Speaker 3: against a ranked opponent, outlasted Oklahoma State. Utah had their
- 10:27Speaker 3: struggles against Colorado. And obviously Utah is the undefeated squad,
- 10:32Speaker 3: so we should give them credit where it's due. But,
- 10:34Speaker 3: you know, it feels like an interesting time to have
- 10:37Speaker 3: the Houston Cougars coming in. What do you make of
- 10:39Speaker 3: the matchup, and what's your biggest, I guess, worry about
- 10:43Speaker 3: where Utah's at compared to where Houston's at coming off
- 10:45Speaker 3: of last week?
- 10:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I said it a few weeks ago in one
- 10:50Speaker 1: of our pregame shows with Bill and Sly, you know,
- 10:54Speaker 1: that I really like this Houston team because of the
- 10:58Speaker 1: game after Tech. I think it was week two or
- 11:00Speaker 1: week three, somewhere around that space. But, you know, they
- 11:04Speaker 1: had the two-point loss to Tech, and Tech was at home.
- 11:08Speaker 1: So that tells you a lot about who this team is,
- 11:12Speaker 1: their DNA, and things of that nature. And, you know...
- 11:15Speaker 1: they knew they were going to be a team to
- 11:18Speaker 1: be reckoned with. Their offense is high power, man. That's
- 11:22Speaker 1: the main thing for me. The defense is really good
- 11:24Speaker 1: as well. Not, you know, their strong point. If defense
- 11:28Speaker 1: are the ball, it's not a strong point. Obviously you
- 11:30Speaker 1: saw a little bit of that in the Oklahoma state game,
- 11:32Speaker 1: but Oklahoma state also has a really good offense and
- 11:35Speaker 1: quarterback who can deal the ball and push the ball
- 11:38Speaker 1: down the field. But, you know, In these type of games,
- 11:42Speaker 1: you know, the things that come down to it, you know,
- 11:44Speaker 1: our run game is everything that we want to happen, right?
- 11:50Speaker 1: You know, everybody loves the formations and things of that nature.
- 11:55Speaker 1: But at the same time, you got to ask yourself,
- 11:57Speaker 1: why do we have all these formations, right? Like, why
- 12:00Speaker 1: do we have all these formations? Why do we have to...
- 12:03Speaker 1: Use three, four, five different guys. Why do we have
- 12:06Speaker 1: to use two quarterbacks on the field at the same time? Right.
- 12:10Speaker 1: You got to start looking at it and really dive
- 12:12Speaker 1: into these questions. And it's because we lack the explosiveness
- 12:16Speaker 1: down the field. Right. The teams that are able to
- 12:18Speaker 1: go and play in January and February. Right. Get into
- 12:22Speaker 1: the CFP. These teams are able to put up 30,
- 12:25Speaker 1: 35 points and have these essentially shoot out games to
- 12:28Speaker 1: some degree that you've got to have. Um, sometimes, right.
- 12:32Speaker 1: We just don't have the explosiveness on the wide receiver
- 12:35Speaker 1: outside yet. Right. We talked about all year, this, the
- 12:40Speaker 1: depth of the receiver room and things of that nature,
- 12:43Speaker 1: but we haven't really seen that death actually show up.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Obviously Pagan has been the most consistent guy there, but
- 12:49Speaker 1: he's also mainly the focal point, um, at the receiver spot,
- 12:54Speaker 1: but we don't push the ball down the field to
- 12:56Speaker 1: take some pressure off of our, our run game and
- 12:59Speaker 1: things of that nature. Now, some of those formations half
- 13:01Speaker 1: the time, um, I just need to start to see
- 13:05Speaker 1: some of that because that was scares me because that's
- 13:07Speaker 1: not something that you can turn on and turn off, right?
- 13:10Speaker 1: It's either you can do it or you can't do it.
- 13:12Speaker 1: And that was some of the same situations when you
- 13:14Speaker 1: look back at the team last year, right? With a
- 13:17Speaker 1: lot of the same players, essentially, when it comes to
- 13:20Speaker 1: the skill position standpoint of things, right? The tech game,
- 13:23Speaker 1: we couldn't move the ball, right? Because it just played
- 13:26Speaker 1: man coverage and he brought the safety down low into
- 13:29Speaker 1: the box. and made it really hard, and we couldn't
- 13:31Speaker 1: win one-on-ones. Colorado essentially did the same thing Saturday night,
- 13:35Speaker 1: where it was just all blitz, run blitzes, add another guy,
- 13:38Speaker 1: add another hat, and playing man-to-man coverage, and we missed
- 13:42Speaker 1: so many deep shots. That's the formula that is out
- 13:45Speaker 1: there right now that, you know, You want to make
- 13:49Speaker 1: Utah beat you, essentially, by having to throw the ball,
- 13:52Speaker 1: and that's where Devin Dampier has to step up and,
- 13:55Speaker 1: you know, make these games. He has to go win
- 13:58Speaker 1: these games, right? When he goes to play Houston, I'm
- 14:01Speaker 1: not sure the kid's name at Houston right now, but
- 14:04Speaker 1: that's going to be a one-on-one matchup, right? And then
- 14:06Speaker 1: obviously you don't want to look by anybody, but obviously
- 14:09Speaker 1: the Cincinnati game, but then the BYU game, right? Their
- 14:12Speaker 1: formula is there, right? The two games we lost last year,
- 14:15Speaker 1: both teams played the same style of defense against us,
- 14:18Speaker 1: which was man coverage, stack the box, press coverage outside,
- 14:22Speaker 1: make him have to beat you with his arm. And,
- 14:25Speaker 1: you know, Colorado did that a lot on Saturday night. Thankfully,
- 14:29Speaker 1: we just got up to a fast start on Colorado
- 14:31Speaker 1: and they don't have much of a explosive offense themselves.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Zach Moss, our guest for another couple of minutes here
- 14:38Speaker 3: on the Sean O'Connell Show. Bird Ficklin, we haven't had
- 14:43Speaker 3: to ask many questions about him because I've liked the
- 14:45Speaker 3: way that they use him. You're not forcing anything. It's
- 14:48Speaker 3: not too much, but he's definitely getting out there and
- 14:51Speaker 3: he's been making plays. He disappeared against Colorado. He had
- 14:55Speaker 3: one run for two yards. They passed the ball to
- 14:59Speaker 3: him three times for 13 yards, including they targeted him
- 15:03Speaker 3: on a long third down that you absolutely had to have.
- 15:08Speaker 3: And it just felt like he was maybe underused in
- 15:11Speaker 3: this one. Four touches for Bird Ficklin. Is that enough?
- 15:14Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not... I'm not one of the people,
- 15:21Speaker 1: I would say, that is a huge fan of using
- 15:25Speaker 1: the two quarterbacks, especially, I think, the way we've been
- 15:29Speaker 1: using him. You know, I want to see him throw
- 15:32Speaker 1: the ball a bit more, right? If that's a guy,
- 15:36Speaker 1: if you know he can throw the ball as well,
- 15:39Speaker 1: I think, for me, I'm not a huge fan of
- 15:41Speaker 1: the way he uses them and trying to get in
- 15:42Speaker 1: his space and have him make people miss and things
- 15:47Speaker 1: of that nature. I don't think that's truly... His his
- 15:51Speaker 1: best skill set, right, is being in space and getting
- 15:53Speaker 1: people to miss. I don't think that's his true skill set.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I think we've got to take a little bit more
- 15:57Speaker 1: advantage of him being on the field and giving him
- 15:59Speaker 1: some situations where he can throw the ball. Right. The
- 16:02Speaker 1: way we can be a little bit more dynamic and
- 16:04Speaker 1: maybe push the ball down the field. I think me personally,
- 16:08Speaker 1: I think he has a little bit better of a. um,
- 16:11Speaker 1: throwing mechanics, then say a Devin Dampier, um, and see
- 16:17Speaker 1: if we can get some shots down the field and
- 16:20Speaker 1: open some things up with him that way versus just
- 16:22Speaker 1: kind of throwing them swing routes and, uh, you know,
- 16:25Speaker 1: a few catches. And cause that's taken away from some
- 16:27Speaker 1: of the guys, uh, have a better skill set in
- 16:30Speaker 1: making people miss in the open space, right? Kyrie Shoals
- 16:34Speaker 1: or Ricky Johnson or some of these guys in the
- 16:36Speaker 1: receiving room that we talked about so much depth, but
- 16:39Speaker 1: we don't use them in those spaces or shoot, even
- 16:41Speaker 1: giving away Sean the ball in some of those instances
- 16:44Speaker 1: where we've seen him make people miss in space. So
- 16:47Speaker 1: for me, I love that he's on the field, but
- 16:51Speaker 1: I think, you know, now it's time through the first
- 16:53Speaker 1: six weeks to, you know, evolve his involvement on the
- 16:57Speaker 1: field when it comes to, What is he actually doing
- 17:00Speaker 1: on the field?
- 17:02Speaker 3: Zach, where is Kyrie Scholes? One, one, one catch for
- 17:06Speaker 3: 11 yards this year.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, he, he has, I mean, I haven't
- 17:12Speaker 1: played for the use and some years now and he
- 17:16Speaker 1: got one more catch to me. Right. That's a pretty alarming,
- 17:21Speaker 1: but that's what I mean, where you talk about you know,
- 17:24Speaker 1: so many miles to feed, right? But, you know, he's
- 17:28Speaker 1: the guy that can push the field, push the ball
- 17:31Speaker 1: down the field and things of that nature, be a threat.
- 17:33Speaker 1: But our offense right now, everyone is so enamored, right,
- 17:38Speaker 1: with these different formations. But if you really look at
- 17:41Speaker 1: the formations, these formations are just putting people in some
- 17:44Speaker 1: different spots, but you're running the same stuff, dives and
- 17:47Speaker 1: counters and getting to the edges with some sweeps and
- 17:50Speaker 1: things of that nature, right? At some point, there's only
- 17:55Speaker 1: so many formations and how many plays you can run
- 17:58Speaker 1: out of these formations because of the personnel that you're
- 18:00Speaker 1: using in these formations. And our receivers are absolutely not
- 18:05Speaker 1: being a threat at all. They're absolutely not a threat
- 18:09Speaker 1: at all. No one is really looking for our receivers.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And when you don't throw the ball down the field
- 18:16Speaker 1: a lot, right? You can do it all day in practice,
- 18:19Speaker 1: but when you get to the game and you got
- 18:21Speaker 1: to make these throws and you got to make these catches, right?
- 18:24Speaker 1: We're not, these guys aren't even, you know, essentially warmed
- 18:28Speaker 1: up enough to go out there and just turn that
- 18:31Speaker 1: light switch on and go make these plays when they
- 18:33Speaker 1: haven't been able to do it or been asked to
- 18:35Speaker 1: do it at a high level all year. So, you know, hopefully,
- 18:40Speaker 1: you know, these guys keep stepping up with Cree Whittemore
- 18:43Speaker 1: stepped up and made some, some, some nice graphs for
- 18:47Speaker 1: us on Saturday and things of that nature. But, you know,
- 18:49Speaker 1: it has to be a group effort because yes, this
- 18:52Speaker 1: ring game was awesome. Yes. The formation is awesome, but
- 18:55Speaker 1: that only can carry you to about eight, eight, eight wins.
- 18:59Speaker 1: If you ask me and it doesn't get you to
- 19:01Speaker 1: where you want to get to. And you got two
- 19:03Speaker 1: teams in these next three weeks, right? They're absolutely going
- 19:09Speaker 1: to test every single thing about this team.
- 19:12Speaker 3: You played a lot of football. Did you ever play
- 19:15Speaker 3: a football game where there was one second left on
- 19:18Speaker 3: the clock and the game was over or like going
- 19:21Speaker 3: all the way back to the beginning of the season
- 19:23Speaker 3: where the game was over and they put one second
- 19:25Speaker 3: back on the clock? This is now twice in the
- 19:27Speaker 3: same season where big time games have ended with a
- 19:31Speaker 3: clock dispute.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Yeah, these one seconds are popping up everywhere in college
- 19:37Speaker 1: football right now. No, never been in a situation where
- 19:42Speaker 1: there was time put back on and you lose or
- 19:45Speaker 1: time wasn't put back on and you still lose. And
- 19:48Speaker 1: they don't give you a chance to probably win. win.
- 19:52Speaker 1: But it's been, I mean, this is why you love football, right?
- 19:56Speaker 1: It's an imperfect game, right? These people, referees and the
- 20:00Speaker 1: guys upstairs with all the technical stuff and the cameras
- 20:04Speaker 1: and things of that nature, right? They're never always going
- 20:07Speaker 1: to get it right. It sucks to see that, especially
- 20:10Speaker 1: if you're on one side of the fence or not. But,
- 20:14Speaker 1: you know, that's why I always have been taught and,
- 20:16Speaker 1: you know, that's why I've always leaned on. You don't
- 20:19Speaker 1: leave the game in the referee's hands, right? You go out,
- 20:24Speaker 1: you do your job at a high level, you execute, right?
- 20:26Speaker 1: And you make this thing a game where you don't
- 20:30Speaker 1: need to worry about somebody else, right. Making that call
- 20:35Speaker 1: for you, right. The Colorado game and Wilson makes that, um,
- 20:39Speaker 1: that illegal pass. But if he just, if the kid
- 20:43Speaker 1: is a little bit behind them, they're in field goal range.
- 20:46Speaker 1: And we're potentially talking about being in the overtime game
- 20:50Speaker 1: at Colorado. And then now anything can happen. Right. But
- 20:54Speaker 1: he made it illegal pass, but they could have messed
- 20:56Speaker 1: that call up. Right. And, um, they don't make that
- 20:59Speaker 1: call and now they're in field goal range and everybody's
- 21:02Speaker 1: on sidelines worried about, Hey, this should have been this,
- 21:05Speaker 1: but we also shouldn't even put ourselves into that position.
- 21:09Speaker 1: But yeah, it's, it's been a while. Hopefully we don't
- 21:12Speaker 1: have to deal with any of those one second issues
- 21:16Speaker 1: at all.
- 21:18Speaker 3: I actually don't like that game day is coming for
- 21:21Speaker 3: this game. I mean, I know it's like a special
- 21:23Speaker 3: occasion and it's always great to showcase a program I'm
- 21:26Speaker 3: just a little superstitious.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 21:28Speaker 3: There's something wrong with me. I don't like the timing
- 21:30Speaker 3: of it. I don't like that Utah's coming off a
- 21:31Speaker 3: bad game, and this is when it's being played, and
- 21:34Speaker 3: you got the BYU game looming. I hate that it's
- 21:38Speaker 3: game day week, and I'm supposed to be excited about it.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Should I feel that way? Talk me out of it.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I definitely see why you would feel the way you feel.
- 21:51Speaker 1: You're not the first person I've seen I've heard her
- 21:56Speaker 1: say that so far, and obviously it's just been announced.
- 22:01Speaker 1: You know, it is a lot of stuff going on
- 22:04Speaker 1: because the team has a lot of stuff to figure out.
- 22:07Speaker 1: And you've got a Houston team coming in here that's
- 22:10Speaker 1: kind of riding pretty high. They just had a big
- 22:12Speaker 1: win themselves over Oklahoma State. And, you know, obviously... with
- 22:18Speaker 1: game day coming in, it's a whole extra, a bunch
- 22:21Speaker 1: of extra hoopla around it. The guys are going to
- 22:25Speaker 1: feel that absolutely right. It's going to fill, you're going
- 22:29Speaker 1: to fill in the energy in the air. Um, but
- 22:32Speaker 1: you know, for me, I always have to think that,
- 22:36Speaker 1: you know, great teams, right. Which we think this team
- 22:40Speaker 1: can be right. They've shown a lot of flashes so
- 22:43Speaker 1: far throughout the year. Um, they rise to the occasion, right?
- 22:49Speaker 1: This is what better way to, you know, go beat
- 22:52Speaker 1: this Houston team that, you know, is riding high, coming
- 22:56Speaker 1: to your house, right? And game day is coming to...
- 23:00Speaker 1: put on a performance, right. It's no better opportunity to
- 23:04Speaker 1: rise to the occasion. And that has to be the
- 23:06Speaker 1: message that has to be the vibe and the energy
- 23:10Speaker 1: throughout the locker room, knowing you didn't play, you know,
- 23:13Speaker 1: your best game on either side of the ball, realistically, right.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Even though the defense held up pretty decently, they ended
- 23:21Speaker 1: up pulling up in the second half, but they played
- 23:23Speaker 1: outstanding in the first half. what better opportunity on a
- 23:28Speaker 1: national broadcast game, even though it's super late, to go
- 23:33Speaker 1: out there and arrive to the occasion. So for me,
- 23:35Speaker 1: that has to be the energy for these guys to
- 23:38Speaker 1: go out there and play well.
- 23:40Speaker 3: No doubt they're all going to want to go out
- 23:42Speaker 3: and play better than they did. And it's important as
- 23:46Speaker 3: I'm sitting kind of a negative tone. They are undefeated.
- 23:49Speaker 3: They are the number 10 team in the country right now.
- 23:51Speaker 3: They won the game. It just didn't look the way
- 23:53Speaker 3: we wanted it to look. But Another chance coming up
- 23:56Speaker 3: on Saturday. Zach Moss will be there on the sidelines
- 23:59Speaker 3: for Utah versus Houston. Appreciate your time again, Zach. Thank you.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Absolutely, guys. Appreciate it.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Utah football running back legend Zach Moss, NFL veteran, and
- 24:11Speaker 3: now part of the radio broadcast right here on your
- 24:13Speaker 3: Home of the Utes.
