  Marvel mutant coverage. I should say today I want to

  talk about Lila Cheney. Who is Lila Cheney?

  She is the intergalactic mutant rock star that you've heard all
• 0:36
  about, or probably not, but if you haven't, hopefully you get

  to learn something here today. Lila first appeared in Marvel
• 0:43
  Comics and New Mutants Annual Number One in October of 1984

  and was created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod.

  When she was a kid, Lila was a natural performer, always making
• 0:55
  up amazing stories about alien worlds for her parents.

  The funny thing is, they weren't made-up at all.

  They were based on her real experiences teleporting across
• 1:05
  the Galaxy. An alien named Spider with AY
• 1:10
  discovered her mutant ability and arranged for her to be taken
• 1:13
  from Earth and sold into slavery.

  It took a turn. While the details aren't very
• 1:19
  clear, Lila believes that Earth betrayed her and sold her to
• 1:24
  them. She was forced into fighting in
• 1:27
  Deadly Blood Sports, but Spider had his own plan.

  He wanted her teleportation powers for himself, so he
• 1:35
  secretly helped her escape, making her owner go bankrupt so
• 1:39
  he could get her on the cheap. Spider didn't track down the
• 1:43
  elusive Lila for a while, though.

  During that time, Lila travelled to Cosmos, turning an abandoned
• 1:49
  Dyson sphere into her home. She became a master thief and an
• 1:54
  incredibly talented musician. She even put together a band of
• 1:58
  human and alien roadies, using disguises to blend in when
• 2:02
  needed. Eventually, Lila became a famous
• 2:05
  singer both on and off of Earth. But a long time ago, a bitter
• 2:11
  Lila tried to sell Earth itself. It's a funny sentence to say her
• 2:16
  drummer, Phil Havanis, betrayed her to a creature named
• 2:20
  Charosala, but the new mutant showed up and stopped the
• 2:23
  attack. Havanis was killed, the theft
• 2:27
  was prevented, and Lila ended up in a romance with Cannonball,
• 2:32
  which led her to becoming more ingrained in the world of the
• 2:35
  New Mutants and X-Men. After that, Lila teamed up with
• 2:39
  the New Mutants a bunch of times.

  She helped them find the Shadow Kings gladiators which is where
• 2:44
  she met Dazzler who was briefly her keyboardist.

  She also helped when aliens that she had once robbed attacked her
• 2:51
  on Earth and when Spider kidnapped her.

  She even aided an alien named Snarl which is SNAARL when his

  band opened for her and was attacked by an extra dimensional
• 3:03
  creature. After she recovered from
• 3:06
  teleporting into the sun with some planet destroying aliens,
• 3:09
  she helped the X-Men * Jammers and Death Bird stop the
• 3:13
  squirrels from taking over the Shayar government.

  When she returned to Earth, she met an amnesiac Dazzler and got
• 3:21
  pulled into a rebellion on Mojo World.

  Eventually, Lila and Cannonball's relationship ended
• 3:27
  amicably and with a warrant out for her arrest.

  After helping Sam and X Force against SHIELD, she went back to
• 3:33
  touring the stars. An alien thief named Jornick
• 3:37
  later ransacked her home, the Dyson Sphere, and sold off a
• 3:42
  bunch of her stolen wealth. When the Kalanti race came
• 3:45
  looking for their twice stolen harmonium, Lila and her former
• 3:50
  bodyguard, Strong Guy. The Strong Guy got it back but
• 3:55
  left Strong Guy in a coma. Traumatized, Lila only performed
• 3:59
  in a small intimate venues on Earth.

  When Strong Guy finally recovered, they started
• 4:04
  traveling together again. After they stopped a war between
• 4:07
  two aliens, the pair reassembled Lila's band and went back to
• 4:11
  space. Lila now lives a double life,
• 4:14
  one touring the stars with her band and another on Earth where
• 4:17
  she and Cannonball quietly rekindled their relationship.
• 4:20
  She's a very interesting character.
• 4:22
  I'd say she's very much on the same wavelength as Dazzler, but
• 4:27
  they're so similar, I guess in, I guess being a rock star, but
• 4:31
  they're also very cool and have a really cool back story.
• 4:34
  I wish there was more said about her.
• 4:38
  She's given more of a limelight. Most recently she was in Jason
• 4:42
  Lowe's Concert of Champions with Dazzler and Spider Gwen.

  That was a really fun thing to read, So if you haven't, you
