- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar fans, welcome in to Dove All Daily, presented by GenJag.com.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jordan Lua.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks so much for being here Monday, August fourth.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: Today we are looking at my mid training camp, fifty three-man roster prediction.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, the Jaguars have their first game, this upcoming Saturday, preseason game.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: That is, they'll have three preseason games.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: We're only a little over a month away and how from the start of the Jaguars regular season, which is absolutely
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: incredible.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, once training camp hits, it is full speed ahead.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about it.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's how it goes every single year.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: So I figured it was a good time to kind of reset and rethink about what this fifty-three-man roster might look like for the Jack Wars heading into.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: the regular season.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: There's some injuries that could potentially have an impact on the fifty three-man roster, I think.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to take a look at all that stuff and obviously, jags don't have practice today.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: They do have practice Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Friday they'll be getting ready for their preseason contest again against the Steelers, which is Saturday evening and then Saturday.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: Preseason.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: Fire it up for it.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: All right.

- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Pick up some new dooval gear.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: Let me know in the comment section below what you think about these fifty-three-man roster projections.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe drop somebody who you think might be a surprise.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: Fifty-three-man roster cut or keep, right?
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: And this isn't an initial fifty-three-man roster.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of folks have the final fifty-three, but it's really the initial fifty-three, because things will change so much.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: So that's just a little bit of a misnomer there.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: Getting into this initial fifty-three.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: I have two quarterbacks.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: Trevor Lawrence, Nick Mullins.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: Look, I think
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: Nick Mullins does a lot of the backup quarterback things very well.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: However, when he was in Minnesota last year with Jaguar's current offensive coordinator Grant Yudinsky, the Vikings routinely opted to try to find other options at quarterback if they needed a starter.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: Will the Jaguar's go down that same route?
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think they might.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like if there's an injury to your QB one, do the Jaguar start Nick Mullins or do they look for another answer?
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think Nick Mullins as of right now certainly projects to be the Jaguar's QB two and I project them to keep two quarterbacks.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think if they want to, they can try to practice squad, Seth Hennigan or Nick Mullins or excuse me not Nick Mullins.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: John Wolford.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: There's sixteen practice squad spots this year.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: Ten of them have to be four players with less than two accrued seasons in the NFL.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: So obviously, they could do so.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: Then again, there if they want to try to stash death, then again, the preseason can be very determined, though, on how these things go, like how you perform when the lights are brightest, when the stakes are highest,
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: We'll have a big impact on how the coaching staff views a certain player.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: So Seth Hennigan goes out and has a fantastic preseason.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe there is competition for backup quarterback.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: But just something to keep in mind.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: I do think right now it's clearly Nick Mullins as QB-II.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: So getting to running back.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: I have four running backs being kept.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's the names you would expect.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: E.T.N.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: Biggs B-II in Allen.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think that each of these players can have a good role for the Jaguars running back room.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: Right now, I do think tank bigs vs the lead ball carrier.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think Travis ETN is probably the lead utility back.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: Get the ball in space.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: Catch pass is all that type of stuff, right?
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think Basel Tutan is the ex-factor, the guy who, you know, they're trying to get along and get him to a point where they feel like he can be a true weapon for them and then Lee Quint Allen
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: can play all over the place, and he can pass protect, he can get past out of the backfield, he can run the ball, he line up in the slot, he can line up in a receiver, catch screen pat, he can do all sorts of stuff for them.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's the four running backs right now.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: Again, with Biggs B being the one who gets the most carries, ETA might be close to Biggs B when it comes to total touches, but I think Biggs B's gonna pace them.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: at this point.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's running really strong, decisive, looking very solid.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's just all about holding onto the football for tank, bigs and for facial tootin.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: At wide receiver, this was a really difficult one for me.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: I went with five wide receivers, which normally you're looking at six wide receivers.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's just kind of the league average, the standard that you go with.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes we've seen seven wide receivers kept, sometimes you've seen five wide receivers kept.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: I went with five because I thought every receiver that is not in this top five can probably be safely stashed on the practice squad.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: Again, preseason performances can definitely change that.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: But right now when I look across the league and I look at the Jaguars receivers after the top five, which we'll get to, I don't see anyone that's going to be like at the top of a list for teams to go add to their active roster.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of how I feel about it.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: You have Brian Thomas Jr., Travis Hunter, Deami Brown, those are your top three.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: You have Parker Washington.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: You have Joshua Seaface.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: There are other guys who are playing fairly well.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: Trent and Irwin makes a lot of plays for the Jaguars.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: He has experience in this league, but he was available when he was available for a reason.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: Eli Pankel has made plenty of plays.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of guys have.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: You also have Austin Tramwell who's been with the Rams before, been with the Jaguars before, has maybe some special teams value, although we've seen some errors on special teams from him before.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: Overall, I went with five because when it comes down to the roster numbers game, I think the Jaguars can safely stash some wide receivers that are currently on their ninety-man roster onto their practice squad, and that's why we went with five.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see how it ends up playing out.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: We'll someone establish themselves in the preseason to really be that wide receiver six.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: When I first did the fifty-three-man roster prediction, I went with Dorian Singer.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: I still think he has the potential to be dynamite in the preseason where you get a ton of reps.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's a great route runner.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's kind of like a pro in a lot of ways as a slot receiver already.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: So that's someone who I would be keeping my eye on throughout the preseason certainly.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of these guys can make plays throughout the preseason.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: It'll just be again about that roster math and the strategy of who can we stash.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: So I have five for now.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: It definitely could be six.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: I would be surprised if it's seven with the group that they currently have.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: At tight end, we've got four tight ends.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: And they are the usual suspects, Britain strange, hunter-long, Johnny Munt, Quentin Morris.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: If it was me and I was bold in my first fifty-three, I put Patrick Herbert on there.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm still really interested in Patrick Herbert.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: I just think that these are more proven commodities.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: And again, can Patrick Herbert be stashed on the practice squad?
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: There's probably a good chance the answer is yes.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: At offensive line, I have nine players being kept.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: Walker Little, Hanson Harrison, those of you two starting tackles, Robert Hainesy, starting center, Patrick McCary, starting guard, as your Cleveland, starting guard.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I do believe as your Cleveland is going to be the starting guard.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: Then I have two rookies, Wyatt Milem, Jonah Monheim.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: I have Tuma Adoga, who I think the Jaguars are very high on, and I have Luke Fortner.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think one of those players, most likely Luke Fortner, might not make it through very far, depending on the Colvian land and injury.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: So when players are, you know, unable to practice and you get to the end of preseason, you have to cut down the roster to fifty three.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: You can place someone on the reserve slash physically unable to perform list.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: I think that Cole Vainland seems like a candidate for that based on his current situation.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: He could also go to injured reserve.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what will happen there.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that the Jaguars would want to try to keep nine offensive linemen.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: I know you look at Monheim and Fortenern, you're like, oh, they're only sinners.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: So, so as Hainesy, I think the Jaguars will view Monheim and Fortenern as two guys who can move around on the interior for them.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think they've viewed Chuma Adoga as someone who can play guard or tackle.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think they view why Milam as someone who can play guard or tackle.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: They definitely view Patrick McCarrier as someone who can play guard or tackle or even center.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: So they have versatility in these backups.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, once Cole Van Lennon is healthy, I would have him in the top nine.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: We just don't know when that's going to be.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: So if he's healthy before the regular season, when I have to make these cut downs, trim downs, he would be my ninth and fortener would be off.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: But for now, I have fortener.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: That takes us to the defensive side of the ball.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: I have that defensive tackle, Eric Armstead, Mason Smith, hopefully they're both healthy.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: Devon Hamilton, Jordan Jefferson and Tyler Lacy.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: I got five guys.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think that Armstead, Smith, Lacy,
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: have versatility to kind of move around defensive front a good bit.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think Devon Hamilton is going to be your nose tackle.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think Jefferson is going to be kind of a backup nose tackle who can move around a little bit as well.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: So those are my five defensive tackles right now at edge really defensive end slash outside linebacker.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: I have six players right now.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Heinz Allen, Trayvon Walker, Emmanuel Agba, Duan Smoot, Jaylin McLeod, who did miss practice recently yesterday.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: Don't know what's going on with that, and Dennis Gardeck, who the Jaguar is just activated from the active slash PUP to actually participate in practice now.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: So those are the guys I have up front and that's a lot of that's that's numbers.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's eleven defensive front players, but the thing about Jalen McLeod and Dennis Gardeck is that they could also be slaughtered in as off-ball linebackers if need be something to keep in mind.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: And that means I don't have them keeping you syrup, Dula, then getting to actual off-ball linebacker.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: I have
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: foe alucin, devenloid, Chad Mooma, Jack Kaiser, ventral miller.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: I've got five linebackers.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think that those are some of the most important special teams players, especially when you talk about Jack Kaiser, ventral miller, and even Chad Mooma.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think that devenloid and foe alucin are obviously starters there, but deven has some versatility to do some different things up front with the Jaguar's defense.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: Anthony Campanule talked about that as a press conference yesterday.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: At corner back, I have five.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: But really six because of Travis Hunter, right?
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: But it's Tyson Campbell Jordan Lewis, Jarian Jones.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_00]: Levi Wallace, who the Jaguars just signed, and Zach McPherson.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think McPherson's just done a really good job.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: As a backup, as a young guy, he's made a lot of plays, he looks like he fits the bill, he doesn't look at all like a fish out of water out there, like someone who is in over his head as a rookie, he looks like
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: He knows what he's doing.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's a big deal.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: And he's made some plays.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: He's pretty consistent out there.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: You look at he's five eleven one ninety one and he actually is a fourth year player.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: So he's not a rookie.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: That should be noted.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that he's made a lot of place.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think Jambar Muhammed has been very sticky in coverage, but he hasn't made a lot of plays on the ball.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think Dianjre Prince is competing.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think Christian Brasswell is competing.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: So they'll have a decision to make it the back end here.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: But this is another one where I think injury may have an impact.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously I didn't mention, but mentioned Buster Brown yet.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: Buster, Monterey Buster Brown, he's currently out for training camp.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I think he might start this season on the reserve slash physically unable to perform list, which means you have to miss the first four games.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: And if that's the case, then that's where the McPherson or the Brasswell or the Prince or whoever comes into play, right?
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: But I have them going with five because Travis is six, right?
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: That is one of the reason not reasons.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: That is one of the benefits of adding a Travis hunter.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: He can play two spots, but it only counts against one roster spot.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: So that's a big deal.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: At safety, I have them keeping five right now.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: have Eric Murray and Andrew Winger does your starters.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: I have Antonio Johnson, Darnell Savage, and Daniel Thomas as your backups.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think that each one of those guys outside of Savage has a lot of special teams value.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know what's going to happen with Ransal right now.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's not practicing.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: My projection right now is that he starts the season on the reserve slash physically unable to perform us.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: So there's three guys that have projected us as reserved slash physically unable to perform.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: They do not count against your fifty three-man roster.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: So that gives them a little bit of versatility.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, they'd rather have Colvin and Lynn and Buster Brown, Kayla Branson than not have them.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: But that's kind of where we're at right now.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: Wait and see mode with those positions.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: And then I have obvious the special teamers, Logan Cook, Cam Little, Ross Matasic.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: Those are your fifty-three man roster players right there.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: Again, two quarterbacks.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: Four running max, that gets you to six, five wide receivers, that gets you to eleven, four tight ends, that gets you to fifteen, nine offensive linemen, that gets you to twenty four, so I do have twenty four offense and more guys on the defense.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: Usually, or oftentimes, I should say it does end up being twenty-five, twenty-five, but right now I have it twenty-four, twenty-six defensive tackles.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: I have five defensive ends, slash edge players.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: I have six, so that's eleven, up front for the defense, five linebackers at sixteen, five cornerbacks, that is twenty-one, five safeties, that is twenty-six, and then you're three special teamers as well.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: Let me know what y'all think in the comment section below.
