Latest / 360 with Katie Woolf / Member for Namatjira Bill Yan is still salty over a Facebook ban for a video he posted on crime in Larapinta
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, I mentioned a short time ago that Namajerra MLA.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Bill Yan has been left pretty frustrated after Facebook candied
- 0:07Speaker 1: him a twenty four hour band for posting a forty
- 0:11Speaker 1: second clip voicing residents concerns about the crime race in
- 0:15Speaker 1: Alice Springs. Now Bill Yan joins me on the line
- 0:19Speaker 1: right now. Good morning to you, Bill.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Good morning Katie, and good morning. Can you listening?
- 0:24Speaker 1: Bell? Banned from Facebook? What happened?
- 0:28Speaker 2: I've been throwing the proverbial Facebook job. I'll dog and
- 0:33Speaker 2: kick that one off the bucket list.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Now, mate, what did you post? Well?
- 0:39Speaker 2: Last week I was out talking to people at Ladder
- 0:41Speaker 2: Penn and just hearing what's going on out there, and
- 0:44Speaker 2: there's still raising concerns about crime issues out in the
- 0:46Speaker 2: suburbs and kids breaking into houses, but more importantly, my
- 0:51Speaker 2: kids throwing rocks at cars when people are driving that night.
- 0:54Speaker 2: So I raised that as part of that post and
- 0:57Speaker 2: sort of said that govern needs to stump up now
- 0:59Speaker 2: and start pushing some resources out in the suburb to
- 1:03Speaker 2: try and deal with some of the issues out there.
- 1:06Speaker 2: And yeah, Friday morning got up and being banned from Facebook.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I've been tossed. So someone obviously didn't like the fact
- 1:14Speaker 2: that I raised the issue of what tappening out at
- 1:17Speaker 2: Lara Pinder. Must have made it to Facebook, and yeah,
- 1:21Speaker 2: I've got tossed for twenty four hours.
- 1:23Speaker 1: How bizarre. So Bill had just said anything particularly controversial.
- 1:28Speaker 2: No, compared to some of the stuff that I put up, Katie,
- 1:32Speaker 2: it was. It was fairly tame as far as postgas.
- 1:34Speaker 2: It was just relating the facts and relating the issues
- 1:38Speaker 2: of the people out at Lara Pinter about what's going
- 1:40Speaker 2: on out there. And yeah, obviously I said someone didn't
- 1:44Speaker 2: like it. Someone took a fence and you know, all
- 1:47Speaker 2: I got was this message, you've breached the community standards
- 1:50Speaker 2: on Facebook. I'm getting sure what those community standards really are.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Literally was then trying to try to deal with it
- 1:58Speaker 2: and trying to sort out which effectively became impossible, and
- 2:02Speaker 2: just at the end of the day just gave up
- 2:03Speaker 2: and just wore the bend. I suppose bell was anything.
- 2:07Speaker 1: That you'd posted in that, you know, that short bit
- 2:10Speaker 1: of vision and what you'd posted, was any of it untrue?
- 2:14Speaker 2: No, certainly not, Kadie. So this is what the people
- 2:17Speaker 2: in the community and out in the suburb of Lardipinda
- 2:19Speaker 2: here in all springs were actually telling me these are
- 2:22Speaker 2: the things that are happening to them, and those are
- 2:24Speaker 2: the things that are keeping them effectively awake at night.
- 2:27Speaker 2: So I didn't mention any names. It was only me.
- 2:31Speaker 2: There was nobody else in the videos. So the fact
- 2:34Speaker 2: that someone got a bit sad about it and must
- 2:37Speaker 2: have reported the Facebook and got me shut down is
- 2:40Speaker 2: sort of beyond belief.
- 2:41Speaker 1: At the end of the day, Well, Bill, we're not
- 2:43Speaker 1: into censorship here on three sixty. So what exactly are
- 2:47Speaker 1: the issues that they're raising with you in Larapinta? Tell
- 2:50Speaker 1: us and tell our listeners, because I think that other
- 2:52Speaker 1: Territorians would want to know.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Well, we've seen a bit of a change and what's
- 2:56Speaker 2: happening down here in Centralustrae. So it has quieted down
- 3:00Speaker 2: in the CBD, but we still have a lot of
- 3:02Speaker 2: youth crime going on, and it's moving out of the
- 3:04Speaker 2: suburbs because there's been a big push from police to
- 3:08Speaker 2: take on what's happening in the CBD. So what's happening
- 3:11Speaker 2: out in the suburbs is there's still gangs of kids
- 3:14Speaker 2: breaking into houses out there. But the big thing that
- 3:17Speaker 2: everybody spoke to me about and it's been going on
- 3:19Speaker 2: now for months, is kids around the Linda Vale area
- 3:23Speaker 2: throwing rocks at cars and throwing rocks at houses, So
- 3:26Speaker 2: people are driving to and from the homes, the cars
- 3:30Speaker 2: are getting rocks and cars are getting damage. But also
- 3:34Speaker 2: kids throwing rocks on people's houses, so solar systems are
- 3:38Speaker 2: being damaged, smashed windows in the units and in the
- 3:42Speaker 2: house of out Randall, a picture area. So this has
- 3:45Speaker 2: been going on for ages. People have been reporting at
- 3:48Speaker 2: the police. The police they're really really difficult, I think,
- 3:54Speaker 2: to be able to deal with this sort of stuff.
- 3:55Speaker 2: That you've got a holy nobile kids who are sort
- 3:59Speaker 2: of in and out doing the damage, and the police
- 4:02Speaker 2: have also been tied up looking after what's taking place
- 4:05Speaker 2: in CBD. So that's what's happening out now, somebody. It's
- 4:08Speaker 2: not just Lara Pender tapping all over our springs and
- 4:11Speaker 2: I think certainly having in Tenant and Catherine and you're
- 4:14Speaker 2: starting to see some of those issues now in Daroe.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Yeah, well we are. That's exactly right, Hey, Bill, talk
- 4:19Speaker 1: us through. I mean, since since the Prime Minister and
- 4:24Speaker 1: indeed the Chief Minister were in Alice Springs and I
- 4:27Speaker 1: understand that the Chief Minister has been back since then
- 4:29Speaker 1: as well. But since that visit, since that Darrell Anderson
- 4:33Speaker 1: report came out, and since that enormous amount of Monday
- 4:36Speaker 1: was announced two hundred and fifty million dollars, I believe
- 4:39Speaker 1: it amounted to what changes have you seen in Central
- 4:43Speaker 1: Australia and have things calm down?
- 4:47Speaker 2: Well, we've seen some change to the alcohol laws here,
- 4:50Speaker 2: so we are reduction takeaway day, so the Monday and
- 4:54Speaker 2: Tuesday bands for take away and reduction now for the
- 4:57Speaker 2: rest of the week. And of course the latest phase
- 5:00Speaker 2: for one of the better terms, the reintroduction of the
- 5:02Speaker 2: Stronger Futures legislation across the number of our communities. But
- 5:06Speaker 2: we've certainly seen a reduction in the amount of people
- 5:10Speaker 2: on the ufens whole drunks on the streets during the day.
- 5:14Speaker 2: They've shifted on whether it be we've heard about man Eyes.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Of course, Catherine and Dale they've moved out of our area,
- 5:22Speaker 2: so that's been a bit of a welcome relief for
- 5:25Speaker 2: people here in town. But we're still seeing lots and
- 5:28Speaker 2: lots of kids on the streets all hours of the night.
- 5:32Speaker 2: I said, some of them are getting up to mischief,
- 5:34Speaker 2: some of them are that that is still taking place.
- 5:37Speaker 2: We're still seeing the crime happening. There's a horrendous incident
- 5:41Speaker 2: that happened, I believe in town over night where a
- 5:45Speaker 2: young boy witnessed something that he shouldn't have and then
- 5:48Speaker 2: he sort of harmed himself as well. So I'm waiting
- 5:52Speaker 2: to get some confirmation with what took place here. But
- 5:55Speaker 2: these are still horrendous things that have happened to kids
- 5:59Speaker 2: in our community. And we're still seeing crimes against people
- 6:03Speaker 2: at home and businesses and vandalism still across the board.
- 6:08Speaker 2: So that's still going on. The Chief Ministers actually here today,
- 6:11Speaker 2: I believe, Yeah, right, So I'm trying to sort out
- 6:14Speaker 2: a crisis within our health system down here in Central Australia.
- 6:18Speaker 2: What's that I don't get health We can't get health
- 6:21Speaker 2: staff for one hundred and forty four. This is a
- 6:23Speaker 2: midwives down I know Cathatch has been crying out for action.
- 6:27Speaker 2: A lot of it stems back to the anti social
- 6:29Speaker 2: behavior we've been seen. The hospital here and a health
- 6:33Speaker 2: team here now had to come to the point where
- 6:36Speaker 2: they've got buses and people driving buses to move our
- 6:39Speaker 2: health professions to and from work, so they're not targeted
- 6:43Speaker 2: by violence and anti social behavior. That's what it's comes
- 6:46Speaker 2: to in Central Australia.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Goodness may we might have to try and get Cathacher
- 6:51Speaker 1: on the show again to find out, you know, a
- 6:53Speaker 1: little bit more about that situation with those health workers.
- 6:56Speaker 1: But that's pretty unbelievable, isn't it. I mean, if they're
- 6:58Speaker 1: having to be bus to and from work to ensure
- 7:01Speaker 1: their safety, to me, like that is unbelievable.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Bill, Yeah, I said, sadly, that's what has come to
- 7:07Speaker 2: in our community that our health professionals, our health staff
- 7:11Speaker 2: have to be said, bust to and from their homes
- 7:14Speaker 2: or our central point to the hospital and back so
- 7:19Speaker 2: they're not subject to violence and anti social behavior. So
- 7:23Speaker 2: that's a pretty sad indictment on our community. I'm really
- 7:26Speaker 2: sad to have to say that sort of Yah, that's
- 7:29Speaker 2: what it's come to. But at the end of the day,
- 7:31Speaker 2: if we have to do that to protect our health professionals,
- 7:33Speaker 2: will save it. I'll give credit where credits you good
- 7:37Speaker 2: on the health of partner stumping up and do something
- 7:40Speaker 2: to make sure that our health professionals kept saying.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with you. I mean, if that's what
- 7:45Speaker 1: needs to be done to ensure their safety, then that's
- 7:47Speaker 1: what needs to be done. Hey Bill, a few weeks
- 7:50Speaker 1: ago you and I spoke after the terrible situation that
- 7:54Speaker 1: the wonderful Fond had been put into with her young fellow,
- 7:58Speaker 1: her little her son, a teenager, being assaulted and then
- 8:03Speaker 1: trying to relocate to Darwin. Is there much of an update?
- 8:07Speaker 2: Okay? I do have that I caught up with Fond
- 8:10Speaker 2: yesterday up a cross passing in the supermarket. Sadly, Friday
- 8:16Speaker 2: week ago, her son was attacked again the same group
- 8:20Speaker 2: of kids. Yep, so that was the third time. So
- 8:23Speaker 2: they're trying now to get an apprehended what I think
- 8:27Speaker 2: is a violence order or something like that, but anyway,
- 8:30Speaker 2: in order to stop these kids from coming anywhere here
- 8:32Speaker 2: and they came back to his school again. Fine finishes
- 8:36Speaker 2: up here with help on the sixteenth. So she's and
- 8:40Speaker 2: looked thanky to everybody who donated to help her out.
- 8:42Speaker 2: She's on the move to Darwin. She'll be starting work
- 8:45Speaker 2: up this soon. Still having some difficulties trying to find
- 8:48Speaker 2: her somewhere to live, like the rental market in Darwin's
- 8:51Speaker 2: pretty tight, so and of course she doesn't have a
- 8:54Speaker 2: huge budget being a single mum, So I'm making a
- 8:58Speaker 2: few phone calls. I know the team and the opposition
- 9:00Speaker 2: leader's office have been onto some people as well, trying
- 9:04Speaker 2: to find some suitable accommodation for rent over around that
- 9:08Speaker 2: DAR and hospital area so they don't have to drive
- 9:12Speaker 2: a huge genuses to get to and from work. And
- 9:14Speaker 2: this also helps out with Eck and his school. So
- 9:18Speaker 2: they're not a great situation what's been happening, But there's
- 9:22Speaker 2: light at the end of the tunnel upon you should
- 9:24Speaker 2: be getting out of el soonully, getting her and stn
- 9:28Speaker 2: up to a safe environment, I really hope.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So I cannot believe that there was a third attack
- 9:33Speaker 1: on him on Friday last week. That is heartbreaking stuff.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just it's ongoing. I am. I caught up
- 9:42Speaker 2: with it a little while ago, and yeah, look so
- 9:47Speaker 2: horrible that for the young fellow so despond Yeah, if
- 9:52Speaker 2: you're scared going to school every day and scared to
- 9:55Speaker 2: leave the house, and you can't live like that. So
- 9:59Speaker 2: I'm I'm saying to see fine in a family leaving town.
- 10:02Speaker 2: I hope people leaving Old Springs, but I hold high
- 10:06Speaker 2: hopes for them to be able to get out and
- 10:08Speaker 2: start again in.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Darn Yeah, I agree with you. Bill. Look, we've got
- 10:12Speaker 1: plenty of messages coming through this morning. There's one here.
- 10:15Speaker 1: The woke army are working hard on the cancel culture.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I can't speak the truth about the art of control
- 10:21Speaker 1: crime across the Northern Territory. We have all had it
- 10:24Speaker 1: up to our ears and trying to silence those speaking
- 10:27Speaker 1: out will only make the community stronger. And Louder says
- 10:31Speaker 1: that text message, and I think that that is one
- 10:34Speaker 1: hundred percent correct. Honestly, trying to stop people from speaking
- 10:39Speaker 1: the truth is never going to stop the issues and
- 10:42Speaker 1: make them go away.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, look, if I've got to keep doing what
- 10:47Speaker 2: I'm doing to hold the government to account, sometimes, sadly
- 10:50Speaker 2: the only way I can seem to get this government
- 10:52Speaker 2: to take any action is to either shame them publicly
- 10:55Speaker 2: on social media or in the mainstream media. And if
- 10:58Speaker 2: I've got to continue to do that, and I copped
- 11:00Speaker 2: the occasional Facebook band for speaking out, speaking the truthfull,
- 11:03Speaker 2: that's the price I'm just going to have to pay
- 11:07Speaker 2: make sure the divorces the people down here keep getting hurt.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yep, fair enough, I think it's absolutely fair enough. Bill Yan,
- 11:13Speaker 1: the member Fanamajira always appreciate your time. Thanks so much
- 11:17Speaker 1: for having a chat with us this morning.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Thanks Katie and have a good day you too.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Thank you
