- 0:01In the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna asked Sri Krishna to place him
- 0:05between the two armies, ready to engage in a civil war with
- 0:09massive numbers of troops on each side, so that he could view
- 0:13the scene before the actual fighting started.
- 0:17At that moment, he was struck by the magnitude of what was about
- 0:21to take place and indicated that he would not participate, that
- 0:26it was morally unsupportable, and it would be better if he
- 0:30were killed than if he would engage in killing respected
- 0:34elders, teachers and relatives. He was prepared to avoid the
- 0:39moral problem that he now saw rising before him.
- 0:43In very graphic terms, it is instructive to note that Sri
- 0:48Krishna did not accept the idea of Arjuna's sudden qualms about
- 0:52the morality and correctness of the action.
- 0:55An action for which he had been preparing for many years, for
- 0:59which he had undergone extreme austerities and training, for
- 1:03which he had acquired special weaponry, and which was intended
- 1:08to obtain recompense from those who had tried to harm himself
- 1:12and his brothers and wife for many years.
- 1:15Including a humiliating scene before the assembly where his
- 1:19wife Dropity was brought in to embarrass them all.
- 1:24Rather, Sri Krishna pointed out that this was a reaction of the
- 1:29guna of Thomas, not fitting for one of Arjuna's position,
- 1:33training, experience and role, and that he should face the
- 1:38situation directly and not try to avoid it or run away.
- 1:44The reactions that the spiritual seeker has when faced with what
- 1:47appear to be failures, moral lapses, uprising of desires and
- 1:53fear that somehow the spiritual progress is lacking are quite
- 1:57normal Temasek responses that want to avoid rather than face
- 2:03the difficulties. Just as Arjuna was educated
- 2:07about this process and encouraged to throw off the
- 2:10Temasek energy that had moved to the forefront, so spiritual
- 2:15seekers are encouraged to act with courage, fortitude,
- 2:19perseverance and trust in the Divine and the process.
- 2:26Fioro Bindo notes quote Difficulty cannot be overcome by
- 2:31your running away from it. It is not by tormenting yourself
- 2:35with remorse and harassing thoughts that you can overcome.
- 2:39It is by looking straight at yourself very quietly, with a
- 2:43quiet and firm resolution, and then going on cheerfully and
- 2:47bravely, in full confidence and reliance, trusting in the grace,
- 2:53serenely and vigilantly anchoring yourself on your
- 2:57psychic being. That is the true way, and there
- 3:01is no other. End Quote reference.
