- 0:00Hey y'all, it's friendly. Welcome back to In the
- 0:03Stillness. Thanks for joining me on another
- 0:06podcast episode. I want to preface that I have
- 0:10been fighting off some sickness this past week, so if my voice
- 0:15sounds a little shot, my apologies.
- 0:18Hopefully it is not too unbearable to listen to.
- 0:22I know it's a little scratchy, but I'm thankful I have my voice
- 0:26back this morning. And after my prayer walk, I came
- 0:31back and saw this e-mail in my inbox and it's from the Passion
- 0:35devotional. And I just wanted to start with
- 0:38that before I dive right into the scripture because I think it
- 0:41ties so well into what we're going to be talking about today.
- 0:45In First John, it said, first drink from my living waters and
- 0:52you will find that you have more than enough to offer others.
- 0:56There is no need to strive to love.
- 0:58Just be true in love by allowing me to refill you constantly.
- 1:05And as I read that, I just sat there thinking, how often do we
- 1:11slip into striving, trying on our own to be more loving,
- 1:16trying to be more patient, to show up better for people, but
- 1:21ultimately feeling dry underneath it all or like it's
- 1:25not enough. Scripture does not call us to
- 1:29manufacture love. It calls us to abide in Christ's
- 1:33love. And if we miss this, I think it
- 1:38is really dangerous because we can spend our lives trying to
- 1:42produce something that God is actually just asking us to
- 1:46receive. So with all of that, let's go
- 1:50ahead and read the two verses. We're going to be in first.
- 1:54John 414 to 16. Moreover, we have seen with our
- 2:01own eyes and can testify to the truth that God has sent his Son
- 2:07to be the Savior of the world. Those who give thanks that Jesus
- 2:11is the Son of God live in God and God lives in them.
- 2:17We have come into an intimate experience with God's love, and
- 2:22we trust in the love He has for us.
- 2:25God is love. Those who are living in love are
- 2:29living in God and God lives through them.
- 2:34Now I think reading these verses, there's a lot of
- 2:38language that is repetitive, so I don't want to miss what it is
- 2:43really talking about. First of all, it says we have
- 2:47seen and we testify. We have seen with our own eyes
- 2:52and can testify to the truth. So this is meaning it is an
- 2:56encounter. And reading this immediately
- 2:59made me think back to a verse in Acts.
- 3:02It's Acts 4 verse 20 that says we cannot help but speak about
- 3:07what we have seen and heard. And that is what happens when
- 3:11you've truly experienced Jesus. You don't have to force yourself
- 3:16to talk about Him because it becomes the overflow of your
- 3:20life. So if sharing your faith feels
- 3:24unnatural, maybe the answer is not more pressure, but a deeper
- 3:29encounter. Deeper encounter produces
- 3:33testimony. And then it says those who
- 3:37confess that Jesus is the Son of God live in God.
- 3:41And that word confess. It means that you are
- 3:44continually agreeing with you are aligning your life with what
- 3:49you say that you believe. So this is not a one time
- 3:53moment. It's not just when you become
- 3:56saved and a believer. This is daily surrender and
- 4:00daily agreement. Romans 10/9.
- 4:03It talks about confessing and believing, but Matthew 10, verse
- 4:0932 reminds us that we acknowledge Him before others.
- 4:13So this is a life that says I am with Jesus not just once, but
- 4:19every single day of my life and that ties directly into
- 4:24identity. And just before verse 14 that I
- 4:28started in today, we see that we are sealed with this spirit.
- 4:34When we are a believer. We are marked and set apart.
- 4:38So you do not belong to the world anymore.
- 4:41So why do we sometimes live like we do?
- 4:45Think about it like you have direct access to the throne, to
- 4:51a royal Kingdom. But if you live in the world, if
- 4:56you associate with the world's things, you are choosing to live
- 5:01outside of those royal gates. You're choosing the streets and
- 5:06scripture says in first Peter 29 that we are called to a royal
- 5:11priesthood. Ephesians 2 verse 6 says that we
- 5:15are seated with Christ in the heavenly realm.
- 5:18Philippians 3 verse 20 says that our citizenship is in heaven.
- 5:24Y'all, that is our reality. So when your identity truly
- 5:28changes, your life follows that it comes into agreement with it.
- 5:34You don't think the same. You do not desire the same.
- 5:38You don't stay in the same environments.
- 5:40And that's not to say that you're not still going to face
- 5:44your flesh's desires, but you ultimately don't want to give in
- 5:50to them anymore because you have seen and tasted something
- 5:54better. And I felt this so clearly in my
- 5:58quiet time. I feel like the Lord whispered
- 6:00this to me. What you feed is what grows.
- 6:04Galatians chapter 6 says that if you sow to the flesh, you're
- 6:08going to reap corruption. But if you sow to the Spirit,
- 6:13you will reap eternal life, you will reap righteousness.
- 6:17So I just want to ask you guys, what are you feeding yourself?
- 6:22Because if you are feeding your flesh, if you're feeding the
- 6:26world's version of love, what feels good momentarily, that is
- 6:31what you will crave. But if you are feeding your
- 6:34spirit through the Word of God, through personal time with the
- 6:39Lord and godly community around you, you're going to begin to
- 6:44live from a completely different place.
- 6:48And then this line, this is everything it says.
- 6:52We have come into an intimate experience with God's love, and
- 6:57we trust in the love He has for us.
- 7:01Now you can know about God's love but still struggle to trust
- 7:05it. And if we're truly being honest,
- 7:09I think that's where a lot of people can find themselves
- 7:13because trust is hard, especially if you have
- 7:17experienced hurt. If you have experienced
- 7:20inconsistency, rejection, or worldly relationships that did
- 7:25not reflect love, well, it can shape how you receive it.
- 7:31But we have to separate this. God is not like the people who
- 7:35hurt you. Romans 58 says that while we
- 7:39were still sinners, Christ died for us.
- 7:44His love did not wait for you to get it all together.
- 7:48His love does not shift, it does not change.
- 7:52So the problem is not that God's love isn't trustworthy, it's
- 7:57that we have been trained by broken, selfish and worldly love
- 8:03to expect it to not be. His love is steady, it's safe.
- 8:11It doesn't wound you, it heals you.
- 8:14So if you find yourself holding back from fully trusting Him,
- 8:20don't just remain there. Bring that to Him honestly,
- 8:24because until you trust His love, you're not going to fully
- 8:28rest in it. You're not going to be able to
- 8:30maximize and reap the full benefits.
- 8:34You're going to be constantly striving to recreate it if
- 8:38you're not resting in it, but you do not have to recreate.
- 8:43You don't have to fear His love. You don't have to run from it.
- 8:47You get to run to it. God's love, it will never wound
- 8:51you. It will only make you whole.
- 8:54And when you begin to actually receive His love, everything
- 8:58shifts because you stop striving and forcing and pretending and
- 9:05you start overflowing. Then this is the concept of
- 9:09abiding in His love. That's when this comes into
- 9:12play. You get to live in His love.
- 9:18And in this quiet time, I spent some extended time just asking
- 9:23the Lord, what is your Love Actually like?
- 9:27And I jotted down what came to mind.
- 9:31A few things. This is not an exhaustive list,
- 9:34but I just want to read a few ones.
- 9:36It is consistent, it is reliable.
- 9:40God's love met me at my lowest and never has left.
- 9:45It is gentle, but it's direct, it's peaceful, and it's loyal.
- 9:51And y'all, that is the love that we are freely invited into.
- 9:56The last line that I read earlier says that those who are
- 10:00living in love are living in God and God lives through them.
- 10:05So that's the result. Not just the receiving of His
- 10:09love, but becoming a vessel of it.
- 10:12And that comes through intimacy because intimacy with God, it
- 10:17leads to a deeper intimate knowledge of His love.
- 10:23So I want to leave you guys with this.
- 10:26How would you describe your personal encounter and
- 10:30experience with the Lord's love? Are you trusting his love or are
- 10:36you possibly trying to recreate your own version of it?
- 10:39What the world says is love. And what are you feeding daily?
- 10:45Is it your flesh or is it your spirit?
- 10:49So let's go ahead and pray. Dear Father God, we just come
- 10:57before you openly and we thank you that you are love.
- 11:04God, you are perfect love. And it's not something that we
- 11:11have to earn or strive for. It's something that we're
- 11:14invited to receive and to truly abide in, to sit in.
- 11:21I pray that we would live in your love, that we would trust
- 11:25it 100%, that we would run to you.
- 11:29Jesus, your arms are wide open and You're just waiting for us
- 11:35to come to you. You say to come to you, all who
- 11:38are weary and heavy burdened, and You will give us rest.
- 11:44So may we live in your love and just bask in your rest today.
- 11:50Lord, I pray that your love would overflow in every aspect
- 11:54of our lives. May it be noticeably different
- 11:58than that of the world. We love you Jesus, and we just
- 12:03thank you today. Thank you for your sacrifice so
- 12:07that we can be one as you and the Father are one.
- 12:12We pray this in your precious name, Jesus.
- 12:15Amen. OK you guys.
- 12:17Well, that's today's podcast episode.
- 12:20I hope that it blesses you and that y'all can just enjoy more
- 12:24of the Father's love. Let it abound and increase in
- 12:27your life and love others. Well, I will see y'all on the
- 12:31next podcast episode.
