- 0:31Speaker 1: Describe yourself in three songs.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Is that what I said?
- 0:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, describe your life.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Describe your life in three songs.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Life.
- 0:42Speaker 4: So who wants to?
- 0:42Speaker 4: Go first right.
- 0:43Speaker 4: I feel like we all have to impress the musician.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I feel like this is Dan.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Seemed really into it, so I'm going to let Dan go first.
- 0:49Speaker 2: He's even got to work on his Show.
- 0:51Speaker 4: The camera, hey, oh yeah, I didn't want to lock up and be like, yeah, fair enough, okay, we can edit that part out too.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Keep that in.
- 1:00Speaker 4: So I'm going to do I'm the content guy right, most of this is going to be based on lyrics?
- 1:05Speaker 4: Okay, but the Outer Rim Convention number four has no lyrics whatsoever.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Simply the most expressive piece of music I've ever heard.
- 1:14Speaker 4: It's Herod Johnson.
- 1:15Speaker 4: It's Cliffs of Dover, if you're not familiar with it.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Just the guy makes Eddie Van Halen look like an amateur.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Oh, and sing it a lot, I will say a lot.
- 1:25Speaker 1: That's an old thing.
- 1:26Speaker 1: What's the name of that song?
- 1:28Speaker 4: Cliffs of Dover.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Okay, you can keep going.
- 1:31Speaker 4: I'm just looking at it, yep, yep.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:32Speaker 4: So number two would be a deep cut.
- 1:35Speaker 4: What number was that?
- 1:36Speaker 4: That was my honorable mention, I can imagine.
- 1:38Speaker 2: So you're Yep 3-1.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Why does it matter?
- 1:44Speaker 3: Tell us why you picked those songs.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I'm going to.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I'm that part.
- 1:48Speaker 4: I've got a deep cut from Pearl Jam Wishlist, Simply Aspiration.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Not their most popular, not off their best album, but it's just.
- 2:00Speaker 4: They say I wish I was and it's cool.
- 2:04Speaker 4: And they're back on tour now.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Right, I don't know.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Last time I saw Eddie Vedder play, he was singing the national anthem in a Cubs game, so I'm not sure where they're at these days.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Yeah, so, number two Boys of Summer.
- 2:18Speaker 4: I will let anybody pick the original Don Henley version or the Atari's cover.
- 2:22Speaker 4: They're both excellent.
- 2:23Speaker 4: It's just about you know people you don't see all the time you still have a relationship with, and then it just doesn't matter.
- 2:31Speaker 4: It's that easy.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Number one I can't believe I'm going to tell the internet this.
- 2:37Speaker 4: I'm here.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Taylor Swift.
- 2:39Speaker 4: They're closer than you think.
- 2:42Speaker 4: I don't know why, Gary, what.
- 2:43Speaker 4: They're closer than you think.
- 2:45Speaker 4: I don't know why, Gary.
- 2:46Speaker 4: What happened?
- 2:46Speaker 4: Okay, All the way off our peak.
- 2:47Speaker 4: I'm going to go with Royals from Lorde.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Oh, I want the countdown.
- 2:53Speaker 4: I'll be going out with what you want out of life and the world tells you you're supposed to want, and then just live your life until you get that.
- 2:59Speaker 4: Can we snap it up for a dance?
- 3:01Speaker 4: Oh, this is the main dance.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Can we snap it up for Dan?
- 3:02Speaker 4: Oh, I mean.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Dan came in strong.
- 3:03Speaker 1: That's fire Plus.
- 3:04Speaker 1: That beat's awesome.
- 3:05Speaker 1: That's a fire song.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I used to really really like that song.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I haven't heard it in a while.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Well, I haven't heard it in a while.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I just haven't heard it, but I imagine it's still good, all right.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Bob seems to have put a little bit of thought into this.
- 3:20Speaker 3: So yeah, so yeah.
- 3:26Speaker 3: So I had to challenge the system to ask me some questions to help me come up with some stuff.
- 3:29Speaker 3: So I went through multiple iterations, come up with what I think could be the kicker.
- 3:34Speaker 2: You put real research into this.
- 3:36Speaker 3: A little bit of research.
- 3:37Speaker 3: So I'm a kid of the 90s, right, mid-late 90s.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Okay, man, alternative music is what I grew up on, so I gotta, I gotta, stick with that for the most part, right.
- 3:48Speaker 3: So there's, there's nothing like nirvana.
- 3:51Speaker 3: It smells like teen spirit, it's old, it's classic, um, iconic.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I was a bit of a rebel at the time, man.
- 3:59Speaker 3: I was a skateboarder, I was hanging out, the wrong crowd doing the wrong things, and man that just spoke to us.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Right, it was new, it was fresh, people hadn't heard anything like it.
- 4:10Speaker 3: So that's up there on the list.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Talks about the time of my life when I was going through a journey of self-discovery.
- 4:17Speaker 3: I was old enough to get out of the house, get my own thing.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Dang Bob, that was there, right, dang bob, and that was just that was there.
- 4:28Speaker 3: I rock and roll and man learning.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Well, actually, that takes me to the next one.
- 4:31Speaker 3: So, man, I grew up a little bit.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Things happen with nirvana, so david's role came out here food fighter, not just a drummer anymore.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I try learning to fly, man, uh, really speaks about growing up and finding my own direction.
- 4:44Speaker 3: So I went from kind of being the wild child to kind of learning to fly, be, get out of my own, find the right direction.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Um, then I had all these challenges in life man becoming an adult, trying to figure out how to, how to be my own person, stand it off.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Chili peppers man there's nothing different to play here.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Scar tissue man, yeah, learning how to to take those hits, learn from them and move on.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Then I have a bonus track, man, I couldn't get rid of.
- 5:17Speaker 3: All right, and I kept coming back to this.
- 5:19Speaker 3: These are the guys that started the alternative music.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Every alternative band will credit these guys and nobody knows who they are, but they're playing tonight at the.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Are you going?
- 5:31Speaker 3: I'm going.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Yes.
- 5:35Speaker 3: I have waited for over 30 years to see these guys.
- 5:38Speaker 3: No way, that's right.
- 5:40Speaker 3: And my cousin's up in Chicago and he gets to see them every few years and I've never made it up there.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Hmm, but it's the Pixies, so where is my mind?
- 5:51Speaker 1: I gotta check them out.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Yep, they are late at night with Modest Mouse and there's gonna be a bunch of old guys like me rocking out.
- 5:58Speaker 3: And that was the true beginning of alternative music.
- 6:02Speaker 4: I saw them at the end a couple years ago with Weezer.
- 6:06Speaker 4: It was a serious flashback to our childhoods.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Stop, it's the next line of the lyric.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I won't go play it, I'm just adding it to the.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Oh, it is the new class.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Let's move it out of the story, stop.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Hey, you get bonus points.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Bob, you have to go to see somebody that you named tonight.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Yeah, great timing for the question.
- 6:29Speaker 3: For the subject.
- 6:30Speaker 3: It all fit together.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Man, alternative was rocking in the 90s.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Man to have these guys.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Do you still have your flamels?
- 6:38Speaker 3: I don't, although I'm quite a bit bigger than I was when I was a teenager, but they would probably still fit because of how bad we were, that's true.
- 6:48Speaker 3: So, yeah, that's me and music, man, I like that.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Fire I can go.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Mine's not as deep.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I mean, I didn't actually I just went to three songs that, uh, they're all fairly new actually, um, I wouldn't say that the names themselves, like the lyrics within the song, outside of one of them, um, aren't real deep in meaning.
- 7:07Speaker 2: It's just kind of I would say the song slash artist was important at certain times, I would say, in my life.
- 7:16Speaker 2: That's kind of the direction I went with it.
- 7:17Speaker 2: So first one is Down in the Valley by the Head and the Heart.
- 7:22Speaker 2: So the Head and the Heart is kind of a folk rock sort of band and they were kind of at a time when I first got into photography, um, and really enjoyed doing it, and so, uh, with them I would just, you know, back in those days when it was just like me with a camera rolling around, I'd go out to the Buffalo, put that head and the heart on and just that was just my vibe.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Uh, a camera in the Buffalo boots.
- 7:48Speaker 4: So you were a full on hippie.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Oh, a hundred percent, and not soon hippie.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Oh, 100%, not so really hippie, but it was.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I was dirtbagging quite a bit back then.
- 7:56Speaker 2: It was a good time Sleeping in the back of my Jeep like all that fun stuff.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Man, I love it.
- 8:00Speaker 2: My next one I actually played this the other day for Jeremiah.
- 8:03Speaker 2: It's called 90's Kid by Ken Quill.
- 8:06Speaker 2: He's kind of a smaller artist but that's kind of a lyric in the song where he just kind of talks through kind of like what it was like growing up.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Like school, school's out in summertime, you have no plans.
- 8:18Speaker 2: And then it like progresses through the seasons of life to like now I'm at a coffee shop, like I already know what I want, see a friend of mine, like talking with him, but he's with his family and like you know kind of what it was like to be kids back in the day, type thing was pretty cool.
- 8:35Speaker 2: And then the last one is Wondering Child by Wild Ridders kind of another smaller full group and really the main thing with them.
- 8:41Speaker 2: It's kind of the music that my now wife and I first started listening to when we started dating.
- 8:47Speaker 3: It was the best week.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Can I say my this guy beating you?
- 8:50Speaker 2: You know, yeah, we just.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yeah, sam, it's my wife, um, and so yeah, one, uh, the wild rivers, balian, that song in particular, uh, just because there's a, it's a duo, it's a man and a woman, um, but I always sing the girl parts, which drives her down to the shoe, and so she just kind of laughs and watches me sing him now, um, but the wild rivers, and of a whole, just a group that we would always listen to, just as we were dating.
- 9:13Speaker 2: It was just a fun kind of time to be alive, not that it's not now, but you know I've got glasses today.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I just got over double pink eye because I have a little petri dish of a child on.
- 9:22Speaker 4: So, yeah, we are putting out on the side space.
- 9:30Speaker 5: You're doing that roll up in your tights okay, so I this is putting songs to describe your life is tougher than sound.
- 9:42Speaker 5: You know I was like, oh, three songs, you know, when we we brought up the question but just, uh, just put up, put out a list.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Take it Easy by the Eagles.
- 9:53Speaker 5: I feel like at this point in my life, pretty easy going, kind of taking it as it goes.
- 10:02Speaker 5: That's a song that anybody can relate to.
- 10:06Speaker 5: I like that Got the classic air on.
- 10:08Speaker 5: Yeah, it's the lyrics, it's the timelessness of the song.
- 10:12Speaker 5: You know, it's of that era.
- 10:15Speaker 5: I just liked that kind of style Old soul Nate, old soul Nate, exactly.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Yeah, it's in classic, even when Bob and I were young.
- 10:24Speaker 5: So that would be one.
- 10:27Speaker 5: Two would be Bad Bad News by Liam Bridges yeah, we all will.
- 10:35Speaker 5: And this one is also about the lyrics too.
- 10:37Speaker 5: You know, don't have a fancy name, don't have a fancy education, but I can make a good, good thing about bad bad news.
- 10:44Speaker 5: You know, have you seen him?
- 10:46Speaker 5: Uh, in costume, I've seen him, okay, okay, yeah, he was just at the Amp.
- 10:49Speaker 5: Not, you know, not this year, but I saw him a couple years back.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Theo, yeah, puts on a good show.
- 10:54Speaker 5: Good family, yeah, and I like the way that song sounds too.
- 10:57Speaker 5: You know, if you listen to it, you just got to get lost in that music.
- 11:01Speaker 5: And then that leads me to my last one, which goes back to the disco era.
- 11:06Speaker 5: You know, I Will Survive, and that one's all about the lyrics, you know, because I've got all my life to live, got all my love to give and I will survive, you know, dang.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Nate came right.
- 11:20Speaker 3: I feel like I just met Nate for the first time.
- 11:25Speaker 3: It's a down-sharing office.
- 11:26Speaker 4: That's what it would be me.
- 11:28Speaker 3: That's fire, that's fire I think I grew up with Cakes' cover of that, which is a little more vulgar A little bit.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Everybody got great lists so far.
- 11:37Speaker 1: They can't be your own songs, dang.
- 11:40Speaker 1: You didn't say that, just saying All right, can't take an easy road.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Staying upset is out right now.
- 11:44Speaker 4: But yeah, you asked the question.
- 11:47Speaker 4: No, you're on fire All right, here we go.
- 11:49Speaker 1: First one is this Love by Bob Marley.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Okay, he's one of my top artists.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I grew up A lot of good messages, a lot of good messaging.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I think he's one of the reasons kind of how I fell in love with, like, like you were saying, the importance of lyrics in songs.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Yeah, like we was listening to this stuff as children, not even realizing that it was just like boosting our psyche just off of the positivity it was spreading.
- 12:12Speaker 1: So is this love is one um.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I grew up on the white and the hot boys, okay, you know.
- 12:20Speaker 1: So they got a song that was very popular, that dropped in the 99s to the 2000s.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I'm not gonna mention that one, but everybody know that one um.
- 12:27Speaker 1: But wayne is probably one of my favorite artists of all time, and so he had a song called hustler music, yeah, and it just kind of put you in that mindset of like, okay, I gotta go grind and I gotta go get it um, so that that'll make the list.
- 12:39Speaker 1: And, uh, there is a r&b soul singer named cleo soul and she has a song called know that you are, and that's all she says for like three minutes.
- 12:50Speaker 1: It's just in a repeat and I'm like.
- 12:52Speaker 1: You know, this is a good reminder.
- 12:53Speaker 1: You know sometimes you can go with this stuff you want me to like?
- 12:56Speaker 3: you know it's going to take you a minute to hear it, man, totally.
- 12:58Speaker 3: So that's my three.
- 13:01Speaker 3: So I got to jump back in here because the discussion has brought a few more things to light.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Okay, so we can't forget the Beastie Boys.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Okay, I know we brought them up, but they were True, check your head.
- 13:15Speaker 3: It was one of my first albums.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Our license deal, all those things.
- 13:20Speaker 3: So I mean, these guys were top of my list.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Embarrassingly enough, one of my first albums just played at the other night.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Go ahead, spit it out.
- 13:31Speaker 4: What was it?
- 13:32Speaker 4: Because it was New Kids on the Block.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:38Speaker 3: When I refused, I couldn't do it.
- 13:40Speaker 3: I didn't listen to them back then.
- 13:41Speaker 3: I'm not going to listen to it now, sure.
- 13:42Speaker 5: Shout out to.
- 13:43Speaker 2: New Kids on the blog that's kind of just going to show you how much music is out there.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Man, it's crazy.
- 13:54Speaker 3: When I got to circle back on Parker a little bit, singing the female spots there reminded me of a ride.
- 14:00Speaker 3: So my daughter and I were heading to the Buffalo for her first canoe trip.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Had the truck loaded up, first time we've ever had a girl on a canoe trip.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Uh, had the truck loaded up.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Uh, first time we've ever had a girl on a canoe trip, bunch of guys, you know weekend long trip and there we were singing pink.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Give me just one reason.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Yes, we had our different parts and I was trying to sing high and oh, it was ugly, it was rough, but probably about you know, three points in our life, I think I never said I could sing it good, but I definitely just mainly one point where she really gets into it.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Claire just always stops.
- 14:33Speaker 2: I see her cut her eyes over me and I'm like, oh, I got this, oh, I don't.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I'm doing it right now.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Off the rip.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Grab that mic One of these days I will, it's cool like that.
- 14:43Speaker 3: I like that.
- 14:44Speaker 3: That was good.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Good topic, good session, good session, guys, yep and now we'll jump, uh, jump off, come back for uh another one and go completely a different direction next time well, and that's what makes it so fun, yeah, with doing a podcast or whatever else it is, and the usage of the studios in and of itself is it's like we're not really talking about a particular matter.
- 15:03Speaker 2: We're sharing cool stories, stories, stuff that we can look back on, you know, years down the road, and say, well, yeah, I forgot about that.
- 15:09Speaker 2: So you know, nate went off and had a very cool life that was beyond us, you know, with his long hair.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Bob apparently had to wait out six statutes of limitations for things he did.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Yeah, no comment.
- 15:24Speaker 2: I plead the term.
