- 1:02SPEAKER_00: And today's topic is about inner child healing.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: This actually, I've heard it more and more often recently about people discussing their inner child, and I just I felt that it was a good idea to just bring it to the forefront.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: So, what really is the inner child?
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: An inner child represents uh the sum of your past experiences and memories that play a significant part or in in your development.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: So your inner child can either be a source of strength and hope uh for some and and the source of um future positivity, or it can cause um some some immense turmoil or suffering.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: And for some of us, the inner child is just a source of certain belief patterns.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Uh, I often talk about this with my clients about just sometimes we create these false beliefs about ourselves, not not necessarily from a big T trauma, uh, which you've probably heard me talk about before.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: There's big T traumas and little T traumas.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Uh and sometimes even the little T traumas where we just have experiences or we receive messages, uh, they just create this sense of um, you know, false beliefs about ourselves, which could keep us with a limited mindset.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: So a lot of the work that I do is around just really bringing those things to the awareness and then really um challenging it now.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: You know, where are you now?
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: What's true for you now versus what maybe had been the experience when you were younger?
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: So again, the inner child is just a way of being, it's it's when we when we get in touch with the inner child, it's it from my perspective, a way that we can shed light on some of our past experiences or some of our of the past messages that we've heard and being able to grow through them.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: So what are from some what are some steps to heal from some of those attachment wounds that we may have from our inner child?
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Well, a lot of times what happens is we have these, like I mentioned, these beliefs they that accrue when we are younger and we internalize them in childhood, uh, and we may not necessarily know that they're there.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: They may be playing in the subconscious, but then they start to intertwine with our identity and start intertwining with how we show up in the world as well as how other people may see us uh as well.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: So, how do we go about um well, first of all, let's talk about why is it even important?
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Why is this, why is this um something that has come to the forefront as a potential uh um uh topic of importance to learn about and to possibly look at?
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Uh and the truth is when we do do this inner child work, we do address some of those false beliefs, like I mentioned before, we bring them to the awareness, it puts us in this place where we can actually then start to accept uh just accept the emotions or accept maybe some of the hurt or just accept what was and now move into this place of uh what is possible.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: And I refer to this as um taking the information that we have received from doing that work and then asking ourselves how we can step into a generative process with it.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: So, how do we really go about doing this?
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Uh well to start unpacking some of these old stories and old wounds, we just really need to slow it down and take a look inside of ourselves and to start looking at what might, what are some of those thoughts and beliefs that might be playing in the background?
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: It means just really going through this process of process of exploring certain feelings, unpacking those parts that we may have hidden or kind of, you know, packed into a small little box and put in the corner not to really take a look at before.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, so some of the negative self-concepts that could be at play when we haven't really done the inner child work is we might we might struggle with a low self-esteem, or we might find that we, if we really look at ourselves, we realize we have some avoidant behaviors which may be rooted from something that we've experienced from when we were younger.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Uh some of some adults will find that they've they are have a habit of numbing their feelings or that they have a passive-aggressive style.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Uh others of us, and me included, um, we realize that we're people pleasers.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: And again, that comes from something from our from our younger self that we just need to bring into the awareness and figure out what is actually true for us now and be able to move forward from there.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Uh other people might actually end up starting to suffer from anxiety or depression or have anger issues or you know, addiction issues.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: Again, those are things that may be a result of some of those inner child wounds that need to be acknowledged and healed.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: So what do we do?
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: We we really do.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: We start to bring it to the awareness first and foremost.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: We have to we have to acknowledge that it's there.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: So once we've acknowledged uh the presence of it, recognize what it is, uh, and just see it for what it is.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: It's it's not about judgment, it's not about anything other than that, but to bring it to the awareness, to acknowledge it, and then to come to this place of acceptance that that's what was there, right?
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: And we start listening to the inner child.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: What does this inner child want to tell you?
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Let it express whatever hurt or shame or fear or anger that it had experienced.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: Um and sometimes, you know, those old childhood memories will pop up, but then we can our adult self can get can get involved and ask that inner child questions that we may have been avoiding asking for years.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: And there is there are times when we might feel anxious about this or uncomfortable about what our inner child is sharing with us, but that's the purpose of inner child healing.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: It's bringing it up so that we can actually uh confront it rather than keep suppressing it.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Because as we know, and we've talked about this with emotions, the more we suppress things, they're still gonna be there, and they're just gonna keep growing and growing and festering uh until they boil over.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: There are definitely ways that I know that I do in my coaching practice where we there are exercises and tools and methods in which we really deal with this.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Um way that you can do this on your own is journaling.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Um, when you are doing your inner child work, journaling about the experience, um, writing about what your inner child wants to say, what the experience was, what comes up for you as the roots of whatever that that trauma may have been, and being able to uh write through and process through the whole the whole uh experience.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: Other exercises um are to really create what is true affirmation statements.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: You know, what is true about where you are now as your adult self.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: You know, for instance, some inner child uh traumas may have led to a false belief that you're not enough.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: And so it's really asking, as my adult self, here and now, what is actually true about myself and going through with affirmations.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: Another method that people use in their inner child hearing is uh a real active gratitude practice.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: You know, gratitude exercises can really give your inner child the approval and love that he or she truly deserves, and it can allow for the process of forgiveness of others as well as self-forgiveness and can create that um space for personal growth and to move forward.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Um, and then of course, and I love to talk about it, self-compassion, loving kindness.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Loving kindness towards your inner child is just um, and there's a loving-kindness meditation that you can practice, which is just really allowing space to connect with that inner child and allowing space for you to observe the thoughts and emotions as they appear without judging them.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: And that's the root of self-compassion and kindness.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: It's choosing kindness over judgment, and it allows space to become an observer of what it what it was and allow space to be kind rather than um choosing to judge choices or decisions that were made in the past.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: And when we observe our inner child in this compassionate way, in the non-reactive way, we allow space to explore and to truly start the healing process of uh those wounds from from the past.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: So whether you remember a painful experience or it's just messages that come up, or just, you know, experiences that have left some false beliefs.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: Um, it's really about allowing the space for your inner child to be heard, to be nurtured, to be loved.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: It's about allowing space to then fully start growing, to go through a process of forgiveness or self-forgiveness.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Allow for anything that had been repressed or suppressed into really uh being processed and being worked through and grown through.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Um it's not about uh escaping anything, it's about building and growing, um, you know, and how we can move forward because truthfully, life is happening for us, it's not happening to us.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: So I hope this little snippet on just you know what the inner child is all about and ways that we might be able to start the healing process is helpful.
