- 0:47Speaker 1: at least for now. I'll see what I can do
- 0:50Speaker 1: to mess that up. This portion of the show is
- 0:53Speaker 1: brought to you by Radiant Dentistry. Did we get that
- 0:57Speaker 1: Radiant Dentistry commercial lawed beautiful because they're paying for it. Okay,
- 1:03Speaker 1: We've got a special guest in studio coming up to
- 1:06Speaker 1: the bottom of there. Doctor John Thornton is going to
- 1:08Speaker 1: join us. We're going to talk a little Leggie baseball
- 1:11Speaker 1: before that. Here's some postgame from last night's win over
- 1:14Speaker 1: prairie View. Mallory is here with an entertainment segment. So
- 1:20Speaker 1: we've slapped together a show for you. We think we'll
- 1:24Speaker 1: see how all of that works out. The Aggies beat
- 1:29Speaker 1: prairie View sixteen to seven at Olson last night. Jake
- 1:34Speaker 1: Duer had four hits. Wesley Jordan and Duerr both had
- 1:38Speaker 1: home runs. Bear Harrison was two for four. Girhovac hit
- 1:46Speaker 1: all God's children were hitting last night at Olson. The
- 1:50Speaker 1: Aggie's now thirty six and ten. They go to Oxford
- 1:54Speaker 1: to play Ole Miss starting Friday evening at six point fifteen.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Here on the zone. By the way, Hunter Bond came
- 2:03Speaker 1: in and threw three to third innings of relief to
- 2:06Speaker 1: calm things down. Last night, the Astros got run ruled
- 2:10Speaker 1: at Dacon Dygan Park today, twelve to two by the Dodgers.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Andy Pages hit two home runs. No, I beg your pardon,
- 2:21Speaker 1: he hit three home runs. Maybe they should have walked him.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Mccullors wasn't good. Two and two thirds, four hits, six
- 2:32Speaker 1: earned runs, three walks. Nobody by the Astros was good.
- 2:37Speaker 1: They lose two out of three to the Dodgers. They're
- 2:40Speaker 1: now fifteen and twenty three on the season. And if
- 2:45Speaker 1: that wasn't bad enough, word comes this morning that Carlos
- 2:49Speaker 1: Correa suffered a torn tendon in his left ankle and
- 2:53Speaker 1: will undergo season ending surgery. It happened in the batting
- 2:59Speaker 1: case yesterday. Recovery process six to eight months. Garrea said
- 3:06Speaker 1: he just felt it pop. It completely snapped on me.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Let's see, since we talked yesterday, the Rangers coughed up
- 3:18Speaker 1: a three to nothing lead with Jacob de Gram on
- 3:21Speaker 1: the mount. De Gram was no help. He's the one
- 3:26Speaker 1: that gave up a couple of home runs. And the
- 3:30Speaker 1: Yankees beat the Rangers last night in the Bronx seven
- 3:35Speaker 1: to four. Huh. They will try again tonight at six five,
- 3:44Speaker 1: Texas time. Nativaldi is on the mound. We'll see if
- 3:49Speaker 1: he can get things going. The Rangers have lost three
- 3:54Speaker 1: in a row to fall three games below five hundred.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Ted Turner died, the former owner of the Atlanta Braves
- 4:03Speaker 1: and Hawks, made his mark as a founder of CNN,
- 4:08Speaker 1: died near his home in Tallahassee today, according to reports,
- 4:13Speaker 1: surrounded by family, Ted Turner, who once had a wet
- 4:16Speaker 1: t shirt. Night with the Atlanta Braves was eighty seven probably,
- 4:24Speaker 1: and he managed for one game. After he fired the manager.
- 4:30Speaker 1: He helped open baseball's free age of wars by signing
- 4:34Speaker 1: pitcher Andy Messersmith. Shortly after buying the team. Messersmith got
- 4:40Speaker 1: number seventeen jersey and on the back of his jersey
- 4:44Speaker 1: instead of his name was Channel because Ted owned Channel
- 4:48Speaker 1: seventeen at the time. The Braves won the World Series
- 4:54Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety five. The NHL playoffs continue this seven
- 5:00Speaker 1: Le Hobby Tom. The Canadians are in Buffalo to play
- 5:04Speaker 1: the Sabers. Also, it's the Anaheim Ducks and the Las
- 5:11Speaker 1: Vegas Golden Knights. Last night, the Avalanche took a two
- 5:16Speaker 1: games to none lead over Minnesota with a five to
- 5:20Speaker 1: two win. Minnesota goaltending has now given up. Let's see
- 5:28Speaker 1: eight four twelve twelve goals, fourteen total goals in two games.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Two of them were empty netters, and they were so
- 5:41Speaker 1: good against the Stars, I can't quite figure that out.
- 5:45Speaker 1: State gaming regulators in multiple states have launched investigations into
- 5:51Speaker 1: Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Swersby's betting activity. The Indiana Gaming
- 5:57Speaker 1: Commission the Ohio Casino Control Commissioner investigating Sorsby, who played
- 6:03Speaker 1: in both Indiana and Cincinnati before transferring to Lubbock, Texas Tech,
- 6:09Speaker 1: announced Sorsby had entered a rehab facility for a gambling addiction,
- 6:15Speaker 1: reportedly placing thousands of bets. Pete Theammil reported that Sworsby
- 6:21Speaker 1: bet on an Indiana game during his red shirt freshman
- 6:26Speaker 1: season as a Hoosiers quarterback, and Bryce and d Chambeau
- 6:31Speaker 1: says he's prepared to pursue his YouTube channel's growth and
- 6:36Speaker 1: compete in tournaments that if they want me, if Live
- 6:40Speaker 1: golf folds, adding he has talked to the PGA Tour,
- 6:45Speaker 1: said d Chambeau. From my perspective, I'd love to grow
- 6:48Speaker 1: my YouTube channel three times, maybe even more. I'd love
- 6:52Speaker 1: to do a bunch of dubbing in different languages and
- 6:55Speaker 1: give the reason the world a reason to watch YouTube.
- 6:58Speaker 3: He said.
- 6:59Speaker 1: The potential pinnlease he would face from the PGA Tour
- 7:02Speaker 1: would be quote quite unfortunate in my opinion, considering what
- 7:06Speaker 1: I could do for them. I was completely shocked at
- 7:09Speaker 1: the PIF pull out. I didn't expect it to happen.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I haven't had any communication things are moving on in
- 7:18Speaker 1: a different direction they wanted to move. There's new different
- 7:22Speaker 1: models on the future. The PGA Tour isn't doing great either,
- 7:26Speaker 1: let's be honest about it. But they've got the media,
- 7:29Speaker 1: they've got everybody on the side that helps pump it up.
- 7:33Speaker 1: But they're reducing field sizes, cutting employees and restructuring their
- 7:37Speaker 1: business too. Look, golf needs Bryson Bryson D. Chambeau. The
- 7:41Speaker 1: PGA Tour needs Bryson D. Chambeau. Okay, let's see on tomorrow.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I believe tomorrow we're going to have Bob Herricks, sports
- 7:57Speaker 1: illustrated golf writer. His new book book is called Tiger v.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Jack Golf's Great Debate. Bob Herrig will join us on
- 8:08Speaker 1: the show tomorrow. We'll have a high school report tomorrow.
- 8:11Speaker 1: We'll have our Clark Eisenhower Outdoor edition Tomorrow. Friday will
- 8:17Speaker 1: be joined by Young Ryan hosting, and Kurk Bowles will
- 8:22Speaker 1: join me. He is back on Friday's show next week.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Next week we're going to be visiting with author Tom Doyle.
- 8:31Speaker 1: He has written a biography of Ringo stars simply titled
- 8:36Speaker 1: Ringo a Fab Life. Tom Doyle will join us on
- 8:40Speaker 1: the program next week, so that'll get you started about
- 8:48Speaker 1: what's hey. Andy Pages has just hit another home run.
- 8:53Speaker 1: As we speak, he's hit another home run. He hit
- 8:56Speaker 1: three with six ribbis today to help the Dodgers beat
- 9:01Speaker 1: the Astros twelve to two at a game. You may
- 9:04Speaker 1: or may not have heard here on the zone. If
- 9:06Speaker 1: you were listening, you heard it. If you weren't listening,
- 9:09Speaker 1: you didn't hear it. That's how that worked. Okay, let's
- 9:13Speaker 1: take a break. We're going to come back. We're gonna
- 9:16Speaker 1: hear from Michael Early, a couple of the Aggie players,
- 9:20Speaker 1: including pitcher Hunter Bond, who had a great outing last
- 9:24Speaker 1: night for the Maroons. We'll get to all of that
- 9:28Speaker 1: after this. For Chad Jones Law.
- 9:32Speaker 4: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 9:35Speaker 4: do injuries from car rex. But you didn't sign up
- 9:37Speaker 4: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 9:39Speaker 4: paying attention. It was their fault and now you're left
- 9:42Speaker 4: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a
- 9:44Speaker 4: doctor and you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help.
- 9:46Speaker 4: We've been helping our neighbors for more than two decades.
- 9:49Speaker 4: Stop getting frustrated with the other side's foot dragging. Remember,
- 9:53Speaker 4: don't get mad. Get Chad. Call Chad Jones Law at

- 10:02Speaker 3: Marty and McGhee.
- 10:04Speaker 5: Marty is live at the Kentucky Derby.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Is in raining. It just started raining.
- 10:08Speaker 1: You're kidding me, dude, It just started raining.
- 10:10Speaker 3: We aren't supposed to have any weather.
- 10:11Speaker 1: What's going on?
- 10:13Speaker 3: We have so much breaking news from you right now.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I felt like, is it like, is this?
- 10:16Speaker 3: Can you see this from my jacket?
- 10:18Speaker 5: I can now.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I ain't gone.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I just started telling I thought I got two thrown
- 10:22Speaker 1: by bird.
- 10:23Speaker 3: So you raining on? What the heck?
- 10:25Speaker 6: It's Marty and McGhee from ESPN Radio for your Saturday
- 10:29Speaker 6: morning six to nine on the Sony eleven fifty AM
- 10:32Speaker 6: and ninety three point seven FL.
- 10:45Speaker 5: You rode into five bare back to seven.
- 10:50Speaker 7: You took the wound and your side.
- 10:57Speaker 3: It is on Willie Wednesday.
- 10:59Speaker 8: You pull the wagons, you gave him somewhere.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Thanks for being with us, Glad you are here. We're
- 11:11Speaker 1: gonna be joined in studio by doctor John Thornton at
- 11:14Speaker 1: the bottom of the hours. Scott clindenon has the week off.
- 11:20Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 11:21Speaker 1: If I give him the day off and he doesn't
- 11:25Speaker 1: get paid for this, does that mean he I have
- 11:28Speaker 1: to give him a week a day off. I'm confused. Anyway,
- 11:35Speaker 1: I'm not paying John either, just so you'll know. I
- 11:39Speaker 1: think he thinks I am, which is why he's coming. Anyway,
- 11:44Speaker 1: what were we talking about. We're talking about Aggie baseball.
- 11:47Speaker 1: They won last night against Prairieview. Didn't start great. The
- 11:51Speaker 1: Panthers scored four in the third inning, but A and
- 11:54Speaker 1: M came back with five, and then they came back
- 11:56Speaker 1: with six.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Then it was.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Eleven, and there you go. Let's do this. Let's hear
- 12:06Speaker 1: from Michael early first, and then we'll hear from a
- 12:10Speaker 1: couple of the players.
- 12:12Speaker 9: Coach final midweek of the year. Well, you guys have
- 12:15Speaker 9: a lot of success on Tuesdays, So what does that
- 12:17Speaker 9: say about this ball club?
- 12:19Speaker 10: Yeah, we just play, you know, pretty good baseball year
- 12:22Speaker 10: and I think, you know, guys, it's just a it's
- 12:24Speaker 10: a different game, right with your pitching and everything. But
- 12:27Speaker 10: I just think for the most part, we played fairly
- 12:29Speaker 10: good baseball.
- 12:30Speaker 11: In those games.
- 12:31Speaker 10: And I think the only one we lost Himember we
- 12:33Speaker 10: lost to Texas State. We had some wonders there and
- 12:35Speaker 10: we've had some here and there, but offenses picked us
- 12:38Speaker 10: up and we needed to.
- 12:39Speaker 11: And yeah, Tuesdays are tough.
- 12:40Speaker 3: You see it.
- 12:41Speaker 11: You see it all around the country. Every year, someone gets.
- 12:44Speaker 10: Beat by a team that people don't think they should
- 12:47Speaker 10: get beat by, and you know.
- 12:48Speaker 11: I thought we did. You know, we've done a good
- 12:49Speaker 11: job of that this.
- 12:50Speaker 9: Year, clearly, and twenty one to two a non conference play. Overall,
- 12:54Speaker 9: what does that do for the club's resume?
- 12:56Speaker 11: I like it should do a lot.
- 12:57Speaker 10: I mean, you got to take care of business where
- 12:59Speaker 10: you're you know, perceived and supposed to take care of
- 13:01Speaker 10: business if.
- 13:02Speaker 11: You want to be in the position you want to
- 13:03Speaker 11: be in. And we've done that. We've done that at
- 13:05Speaker 11: an extremely high level.
- 13:07Speaker 10: You know, only losing two games in a non conferences
- 13:10Speaker 10: is pretty hard to do, and I'm not sure how
- 13:12Speaker 10: many teams have done it.
- 13:13Speaker 11: So our guys have done a great job in that
- 13:15Speaker 11: part of our schedule getting done what we needed to
- 13:17Speaker 11: get done.
- 13:18Speaker 3: At this point in the season.
- 13:19Speaker 12: With these movie games, there's a lot of talk that
- 13:22Speaker 12: pops up about RPI and what that means to the
- 13:25Speaker 12: season play. What's your take on that system and maybe
- 13:29Speaker 12: you know some things to pull it out there about
- 13:31Speaker 12: like dropping the lowest five RPIs or are.
- 13:33Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean I think there's things that they can
- 13:36Speaker 11: do and should do.
- 13:37Speaker 10: I know, I know they do a good job in
- 13:39Speaker 10: those rooms though, with regional committees and things like that,
- 13:42Speaker 10: taking a look at that and not just blanketing on
- 13:45Speaker 10: like this is your order. So yeah, and then you
- 13:50Speaker 10: don't want to you don't want to cancel games. You
- 13:52Speaker 10: cancel games, you're gonna get.
- 13:53Speaker 11: Behind those closed doors. You're gonna get deemed for it.
- 13:56Speaker 10: So you you look at these really good committees they
- 13:58Speaker 10: put together, and I know there's people in there.
- 14:00Speaker 11: You know, you get information. Those people talk about stuff.
- 14:04Speaker 13: I guess.
- 14:04Speaker 11: So yeah, I think there's some things you can you
- 14:06Speaker 11: can possibly do, but you know that's not for me
- 14:08Speaker 11: to decide.
- 14:08Speaker 12: I take it from what your answer there that there
- 14:10Speaker 12: was never any thought about canceling this one.
- 14:13Speaker 10: No schedule the game, And I think I think that
- 14:15Speaker 10: I think it hurts you more perceptionally if you do
- 14:17Speaker 10: something like that and it comes down to you and
- 14:18Speaker 10: another team and you bang the game and they didn't.
- 14:21Speaker 10: I think you look at our body of work, we're
- 14:24Speaker 10: not done. So I don't want to get ahead of myself.
- 14:25Speaker 10: I'm just answering your question. But I think when you
- 14:27Speaker 10: look at our body at work at the end, however
- 14:29Speaker 10: it is, however we end up, I believe we're gonna
- 14:32Speaker 10: be put where we're supposed to be put.
- 14:34Speaker 14: Had a great night. Just what did you see from him?
- 14:36Speaker 14: Do you think he was gonna around site? You're trying
- 14:38Speaker 14: to go for third and get the cycle there on
- 14:40Speaker 14: that n I'm glad he didn't.
- 14:41Speaker 11: He would have been out by a mile. But then
- 14:44Speaker 11: someone said that from the doug out, I had no idea,
- 14:46Speaker 11: so I was hoping to hit that over the defence.
- 14:48Speaker 10: But yeah, it's good you needed to. He didn't see
- 14:50Speaker 10: some hits drop gradus. He had some good up bats
- 14:52Speaker 10: in the last game. But it's good for him. He's
- 14:54Speaker 10: a guy that can get hits and as good at bats,
- 14:56Speaker 10: and I want him to be feeling good as we
- 14:58Speaker 10: had until the week before.
- 15:00Speaker 15: How good was it to see Bond have the extended
- 15:01Speaker 15: out and he did and.
- 15:02Speaker 11: Just it was awesome.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Man.
- 15:04Speaker 10: He's uh, he's worked his tail off since he's got here.
- 15:07Speaker 10: He's he's struggled, you know, with some injury bugs here
- 15:10Speaker 10: and there, you know, a point where maybe didn't even
- 15:12Speaker 10: know if he's gonna be able to pitch, and that's
- 15:13Speaker 10: really hard to do. To continue to show up every
- 15:15Speaker 10: single day, do a ton of rehab, just gets your opportunity.
- 15:19Speaker 10: And when he's been put on the mound, he's done
- 15:20Speaker 10: a really good job. So awesome dude to have on
- 15:23Speaker 10: the team and like a really good pitcher. So he's
- 15:25Speaker 10: not out there just because we like him. He's out
- 15:27Speaker 10: there because we think he's really good. And that's probably
- 15:29Speaker 10: brought him here and had off to him for you know,
- 15:32Speaker 10: there's a long road for him to get to this point,
- 15:35Speaker 10: and just really.
- 15:35Speaker 11: Excited for him to be out there and help contribute
- 15:37Speaker 11: to this team.
- 15:38Speaker 15: What was the exactly to help him back for that long?
- 15:41Speaker 11: I don't I don't know. There's just some injury stuff.
- 15:43Speaker 10: Like I'll let him talk about it if he wants to,
- 15:44Speaker 10: but I just just some stuff here and there. I'll
- 15:47Speaker 10: just keep it his personal business.
- 15:49Speaker 15: Was there some importance hary to be like that.
- 15:51Speaker 11: I just like, I'm just sensitive. I don't mean to
- 15:53Speaker 11: sound like that. That's fine, A mean dude, almost You're.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Done, okay with y'all.
- 15:59Speaker 12: Have a few injuries, you're kind of have to mix
- 16:01Speaker 12: up some in the stuff in the NFL. How how
- 16:04Speaker 12: good was it to play a game like this just
- 16:05Speaker 12: to kind of get some guys back into the flow
- 16:07Speaker 12: of things you maybe hadn't been out there.
- 16:09Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean it was. It was good to get
- 16:11Speaker 10: him out there, but we need him. We need him
- 16:13Speaker 10: to play better or they're just out there. So yeah,
- 16:15Speaker 10: I mean good to get him out there in the flow,
- 16:17Speaker 10: but we need we need these guys to contribute. I
- 16:19Speaker 10: don't want to just play because we have to have
- 16:21Speaker 10: body and put people on the lineup, so we need.
- 16:23Speaker 11: Guys to contribute them. So no one, no one cares
- 16:26Speaker 11: that you got guys hurt.
- 16:27Speaker 10: So we'll get back in there, get some things fixed,
- 16:31Speaker 10: and hopefully they have a better weekend.
- 16:32Speaker 3: We'll talk about the injuries.
- 16:33Speaker 11: Moving Gavin back a little bit in the third base side.
- 16:35Speaker 3: What have you seen from him so far and the
- 16:36Speaker 3: comfortability over.
- 16:37Speaker 11: The Yeah, I mean he's worked.
- 16:39Speaker 10: I mean Cliff does a really good job of moving
- 16:40Speaker 10: these guys around. So Gavin he probably gets more work
- 16:44Speaker 10: believe it or not, at this point at third than
- 16:46Speaker 10: he does at first. He's gotten a pretty good feel
- 16:48Speaker 10: at first, he gets a ton of work over there,
- 16:50Speaker 10: but actually he says it helps him on the other
- 16:52Speaker 10: side of the diamonds, So I'm not surprised going he
- 16:54Speaker 10: got it.
- 16:54Speaker 11: I mean, he put it a ton of work there.
- 16:56Speaker 10: He didn't touch first base until he got back to
- 16:58Speaker 10: the spring, so he's gotten a lot of work with
- 17:00Speaker 10: Cliff throughout the year over there.
- 17:02Speaker 9: And then what are those latest updates with both Nico
- 17:05Speaker 9: and Prison as you've gotten further away.
- 17:07Speaker 3: From the weekend.
- 17:08Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, Chris is just gonna be about a
- 17:10Speaker 10: little bit of a tolerance thing and it's just, you know,
- 17:12Speaker 10: one of those deep.
- 17:13Speaker 11: Bone bruises that it's it's just tough. I mean, those
- 17:16Speaker 11: are extremely painful, especially where he got it. So, I
- 17:18Speaker 11: mean he hit today, he could have he could have
- 17:20Speaker 11: played today.
- 17:21Speaker 10: As you can see in the games, it does not
- 17:24Speaker 10: affect his swing. He wasn't a you know, speed demon
- 17:28Speaker 10: as it is, but we just needed to get a
- 17:30Speaker 10: little better to get lateral because we need to getting
- 17:31Speaker 10: back out the second base. Nico took some swings today
- 17:35Speaker 10: with me just off the tee in front toss just to.
- 17:37Speaker 11: See if he felt anything when he hit.
- 17:39Speaker 10: He did it at all, which is a good thing,
- 17:42Speaker 10: so we can really keep him.
- 17:44Speaker 11: It would be bad if we had to like really
- 17:46Speaker 11: shut down his swing, right.
- 17:47Speaker 10: So now we're just working on getting that leg healthy
- 17:49Speaker 10: and getting him back out there. But we need to
- 17:51Speaker 10: be smart with it because you know, we want to
- 17:52Speaker 10: play a lot of baseball and we're gonna need him
- 17:54Speaker 10: to do it.
- 17:54Speaker 15: There's one more with a Bond.
- 17:56Speaker 14: Just what dre all to him when y'all were seeing
- 17:58Speaker 14: him out of Glyn and we're all familiar with him,
- 18:00Speaker 14: he was coming up through Adam consolidated.
- 18:03Speaker 10: I was, I was not necessarily familiar with him, and
- 18:05Speaker 10: he's a consolidated I just we saw him at Blent.
- 18:08Speaker 10: His coach calling about him early on, spoke super highly
- 18:11Speaker 10: of him.
- 18:12Speaker 11: He had some really good seasons there. Left handed pitcher
- 18:14Speaker 11: that throws strikes.
- 18:15Speaker 10: It's competitive sky you want to him on your team,
- 18:19Speaker 10: especially yeah, lefting to throw strikes and coach spoke so
- 18:22Speaker 10: highly of him, and you see me like, this guy's good.
- 18:26Speaker 11: Guy you want to have on your team.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Well that's Michael early last part talking about Hunter Bond
- 18:31Speaker 1: out of Glenn n A and and Consolidated has battled
- 18:35Speaker 1: some injuries, but was really good last night and kind
- 18:38Speaker 1: of came in and settled things down from A and
- 18:44Speaker 1: M standpoint, which they need badly. Out of the bullpen.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Been searching, you know, for extras, and Hunter Bond provided that.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Let's listen to Hunter Bond after his outing.
- 18:59Speaker 15: What was what was working for you tonight? And what
- 19:01Speaker 15: do it mean to have the outing you did out there?
- 19:03Speaker 3: It was great?
- 19:04Speaker 16: I had all three pitches working for me, and so
- 19:07Speaker 16: you know, when I even throw three pitches for strikes, confidently,
- 19:10Speaker 16: it's it's really easy to just walk in back and
- 19:13Speaker 16: just the and JK are really on the same page
- 19:16Speaker 16: this entire night, and yeah, it was just it was
- 19:18Speaker 16: fun to compete.
- 19:19Speaker 14: What's the journey been like for you this season getting
- 19:22Speaker 14: back into the fold and if you don't mind sharing
- 19:24Speaker 14: what you were dealing with that that held you back
- 19:27Speaker 14: out there?
- 19:27Speaker 3: Sure?
- 19:27Speaker 16: Yeah, I stepped on campus and I had a little
- 19:30Speaker 16: bit of a shoulder problem, nothing too serious, So that
- 19:33Speaker 16: first half of the fall I was kind of coming
- 19:35Speaker 16: back from that, and so I didn't really.
- 19:37Speaker 17: Have a huge runway to kind of get.
- 19:40Speaker 16: Better, especially in the fall where you know, you only
- 19:42Speaker 16: play two games so you can really.
- 19:45Speaker 18: Work on your craft.
- 19:47Speaker 16: And then I had this weird finger looking the thing
- 19:50Speaker 16: I still didn't even know what it is. But that
- 19:53Speaker 16: put me out for about thirte and a half months
- 19:55Speaker 16: of no thrown. So once the season started, me just
- 19:58Speaker 16: now started to build up and said, now I'm fully
- 20:01Speaker 16: ramped up healthy.
- 20:02Speaker 15: I don't think we buried both.
- 20:03Speaker 16: Of those things, but I mean, it's just it was
- 20:07Speaker 16: a long journey, super unknown. But at the end of
- 20:10Speaker 16: the day, all I could do is put one foot
- 20:12Speaker 16: in front of the other and tap into my faith
- 20:15Speaker 16: and trust the Lord that he has a plan for me.
- 20:17Speaker 16: So I just continue to do that. And it's just
- 20:22Speaker 16: I'm so thankful to be out there in a pasion.
- 20:24Speaker 3: It's really cool, especially being a local kid here.
- 20:28Speaker 14: What a you know, take us back to last spring,
- 20:31Speaker 14: since it's the first time we've got to talk to you.
- 20:32Speaker 15: When when you've got the ability to, you.
- 20:34Speaker 14: Know, have an offer to come here, what did that
- 20:36Speaker 14: mean to you? And was it was it any question
- 20:38Speaker 14: that you were gonna come here?
- 20:39Speaker 13: Oh?
- 20:40Speaker 16: Yeah, it was a no brainer to me. You know,
- 20:41Speaker 16: I had a couple other schools reaching out that made
- 20:45Speaker 16: it's tough a little bit, But at the end of
- 20:48Speaker 16: the day, I mean I.
- 20:49Speaker 15: Grew up here, So it was a full circle moment.
- 20:51Speaker 16: You know, I've when I came on my visit, it
- 20:53Speaker 16: was I knew everything about this place, and so they
- 20:57Speaker 16: offered me with open arms, and so it was just
- 20:59Speaker 16: super easy that I trust coach Early and the entire staff.
- 21:03Speaker 16: So I love what they had to say about me
- 21:05Speaker 16: and what they see for me and the program they built,
- 21:08Speaker 16: and so it's there's a no brainer. And it's just
- 21:11Speaker 16: crazy to think that I'd be pitching had a uniform
- 21:13Speaker 16: whenever I grew up here watching all these guys throw,
- 21:17Speaker 16: it's really cool.
- 21:18Speaker 14: Are your parents Aggies and do you have any standout
- 21:21Speaker 14: in and baseball memories as a kid.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Maybe?
- 21:23Speaker 16: Yeah, both my parents are Aggies, and so I even grandparents,
- 21:28Speaker 16: I don't know, maybe four generation, so have deep roots here.
- 21:33Speaker 16: And then I mean, I remember Michael beershon to walk
- 21:36Speaker 16: off versus Texas. I was there. I was there for
- 21:39Speaker 16: all the super regionals where they ended up going to Omaha.
- 21:41Speaker 16: I went to Omaha in twenty seventeen, and so just
- 21:45Speaker 16: super cool. I love this place so much. I love
- 21:48Speaker 16: what we stand for and all the core values, and
- 21:51Speaker 16: this program is super rich in tradition.
- 21:53Speaker 12: So it was super cool Early to tribed you as
- 21:56Speaker 12: a strike throwing that he from the flint, and it's
- 21:59Speaker 12: harder to take one of the guys from when would
- 22:01Speaker 12: you see them?
- 22:02Speaker 3: Last time we heard of somebody's trab like that was
- 22:04Speaker 3: Evan Ashaack. How much did't you.
- 22:06Speaker 12: Know about him and his path? And is that someone
- 22:08Speaker 12: that you need? The guys that went ever that that
- 22:10Speaker 12: neame ever came up heard any things?
- 22:11Speaker 11: Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Evan's uh.
- 22:13Speaker 16: I mean again, I was watching him while I was
- 22:15Speaker 16: in junior college while he was here, and I was like, Wow,
- 22:18Speaker 16: I'm really the program that he was before and.
- 22:21Speaker 15: Now he's at A and M.
- 22:22Speaker 16: So that was really cool to see and how much
- 22:24Speaker 16: he's grown and he just he trusts stuff and he
- 22:27Speaker 16: knows uh his value. He throws it in there and
- 22:30Speaker 16: I really highly respect that. And so yeah, it was
- 22:34Speaker 16: super cool. Dude, heard a lot about him her he's
- 22:37Speaker 16: a great guy and that I mean, he just competes
- 22:40Speaker 16: and so.
- 22:42Speaker 11: Can't really go wrong with that.
- 22:44Speaker 12: Did his story help you see that there was I mean,
- 22:45Speaker 12: of course a path like that for you to get here,
- 22:48Speaker 12: somewhere you wanted to be.
- 22:49Speaker 16: Yeah, of course, just being able to trust in your
- 22:53Speaker 16: own self and your own abilities, realizing that you're your
- 22:56Speaker 16: own person, you don't have to be somewhere else. And
- 22:58Speaker 16: so growing up, I was always a strike going my feat,
- 23:02Speaker 16: never threw it super super hard, but had pitches that
- 23:07Speaker 16: through for strikes. And so being able to commit to
- 23:09Speaker 16: that every single day and realizing that this is who
- 23:12Speaker 16: Hunter Bond is is something that I've really tried to embody,
- 23:15Speaker 16: especially whenever I got into junior college, and I think
- 23:17Speaker 16: that's how I had success there and it just kind
- 23:20Speaker 16: of led into here.
- 23:22Speaker 15: Came in a pretty high leverage situation there.
- 23:25Speaker 11: You know, what was the message JK gave you?
- 23:27Speaker 15: When you can be got on the mount?
- 23:28Speaker 16: Yeah, you just nothing really changes whether you're bit ten
- 23:33Speaker 16: or down bitesen. You could be playing the New York Yankees,
- 23:36Speaker 16: you could be playing Prairie View, or I could be
- 23:39Speaker 16: going back to my junior college. Really still throw a
- 23:41Speaker 16: white baseball sixty th six inches and you have to
- 23:44Speaker 16: execute pitches at a very high level. So I just
- 23:47Speaker 16: kind of lock out nameless, faceless batterer, it doesn't really matter,
- 23:52Speaker 16: and just trusting my ability and just competing with strikes.
- 23:57Speaker 16: And that's that's really what JK has been NonStop trying
- 24:01Speaker 16: to drive into her head, and it held me to
- 24:03Speaker 16: just walk with confidence into the mound, just trusting myself
- 24:06Speaker 16: and don't a bunch of twice don't it up?
- 24:09Speaker 14: Got the squarecard de nights I did you know you're
- 24:11Speaker 14: gonna put that in a special place?
- 24:13Speaker 3: Absolutely to might frame it up.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I don't know why yet, but very very cool, really
- 24:19Speaker 1: cool story. Hunter bond out I and him consolidated and
- 24:22Speaker 1: blend uh has had injuries. But last night three and
- 24:27Speaker 1: a third scoreless, four k's no walks and just came
- 24:33Speaker 1: in and kind of settled the game down. And uh, Trey,
- 24:37Speaker 1: were you at that game? Were you covered the game
- 24:39Speaker 1: for the battlest night?
- 24:40Speaker 19: Oh?
- 24:40Speaker 3: Okay?
- 24:41Speaker 1: Uh? Anyway, Uh, that was encouraging for him and and
- 24:47Speaker 1: for for everyone. Actually, next game Friday night, Oxford Ole
- 24:53Speaker 1: miss first of three and uh, then they'll return next
- 25:00Speaker 1: weekend Thursday, Friday Saturday. I think that's right. They've moved
- 25:04Speaker 1: that Saturday game next Saturday to eleven am. Why would
- 25:09Speaker 1: you Why would you play a baseball game at eleven am?
- 25:13Speaker 1: Why do you think just five guesses and four don't count?
- 25:16Speaker 1: The SEC networks decided they're going to televise that game
- 25:20Speaker 1: at eleven am on Saturday morning, So get some coffee
- 25:23Speaker 1: and go to the ballpark. Aggie's now thirty six and ten.
- 25:28Speaker 1: And finally last night, I know we have somebody, Yes,
- 25:33Speaker 1: Jake Doer, He was very close to him for the
- 25:35Speaker 1: cycle last night. Actually he had four hits and drove
- 25:42Speaker 1: in four. Pretty good night for Doer, who played left
- 25:46Speaker 1: field last night.
- 25:48Speaker 15: Question, So were you were you singing about rounding for
- 25:50Speaker 15: third on that.
- 25:51Speaker 16: Last one or yeah? You know it's it's about excitement.
- 25:55Speaker 16: You know I could have got it, but no reason
- 25:57Speaker 16: to push it. We got the final stretch of games
- 25:59Speaker 16: coming up. Either feel good now than tweak something around
- 26:02Speaker 16: and third.
- 26:03Speaker 11: Or something stupid for a trip or cycle or whatever.
- 26:06Speaker 15: What was going well for you today? And I know
- 26:08Speaker 15: you didn't have the production you probably wanted this past weekend.
- 26:10Speaker 16: I guess album it's all about just going back to
- 26:13Speaker 16: my standards and my routines and just being able to
- 26:15Speaker 16: just repetitively do the same things every single day. I
- 26:18Speaker 16: don't really change much today. I just you know, it
- 26:20Speaker 16: went my way. It's all baseball is. It's just it's
- 26:22Speaker 16: either going your way or not.
- 26:23Speaker 3: So I finally went my way. Had you ever hit
- 26:26Speaker 3: for a second before in year.
- 26:28Speaker 16: No no no, I thought about it, man, I was
- 26:30Speaker 16: thinking about how honestly before myv which is should never
- 26:33Speaker 16: do but could have? I could have done it. But again,
- 26:37Speaker 16: just take the double.
- 26:39Speaker 9: Eleven and one in mid weeks and twenty one and
- 26:41Speaker 9: two and non Gobern's play. What do you think that
- 26:43Speaker 9: says about this club? It's a resume and just how
- 26:46Speaker 9: difficult is it to do as a veteran who has
- 26:48Speaker 9: been around a while, you.
- 26:49Speaker 16: Know, it's it's all about just you know, you played
- 26:51Speaker 16: the game the same no matter who the opponent is.
- 26:53Speaker 16: And that's something the coaches have really gotten into our heads.
- 26:56Speaker 16: And you know, it's it's it's the same game no
- 26:58Speaker 16: matter who it is. Play. You know, if we're playing
- 27:01Speaker 16: Ole Miss next week, if we're playing you know, these
- 27:03Speaker 16: guys today, it doesn't matter. It's the same game. So
- 27:06Speaker 16: if we just play our brand of baseball, wins will happen.
- 27:09Speaker 12: And because this time of the year, these Tuesday games
- 27:11Speaker 12: a lot to talk about RBI and games getting canceled
- 27:14Speaker 12: and stuff like that, is there an important storm of
- 27:16Speaker 12: players perspective to play games like this at this time
- 27:18Speaker 12: of the year.
- 27:19Speaker 16: We couldn't care less. We just you know, every single
- 27:21Speaker 16: one of those guys just excited to be out here
- 27:23Speaker 16: and play in front of the Twelfth Man and just
- 27:25Speaker 16: play baseball, you know. So it's all about just having fun,
- 27:28Speaker 16: and we have fun out here, so it's it's hard
- 27:30Speaker 16: to not want to play.
- 27:32Speaker 15: Wesley had a big m bat there at the end.
- 27:34Speaker 14: Just what have you seen from him, especially as he
- 27:36Speaker 14: maybe has not had the playing time that he had
- 27:38Speaker 14: from a start, and you know, having an opportunity in these.
- 27:41Speaker 16: Last few games, you know, it's you know, I said
- 27:43Speaker 16: it on the radio earlier, it looked like he got
- 27:44Speaker 16: a swagger back today after that first base hit, and
- 27:46Speaker 16: that's something he's been looking for for a while because
- 27:48Speaker 16: you know, he's been five injuries, but none of the
- 27:50Speaker 16: guy since high school. He's a dog and you know,
- 27:52Speaker 16: being able to see him finally get back to that
- 27:54Speaker 16: feel he had in the beginning of the season, you know,
- 27:56Speaker 16: it's exciting because that's another huge bat in our line,
- 27:58Speaker 16: a huge bat.
- 28:00Speaker 9: Two Marcus guys armoring the same game. How special is that?
- 28:03Speaker 9: And is there any message out there for coach Sherman.
- 28:06Speaker 11: Well, that's our man.
- 28:08Speaker 16: I want to say the second or third time this
- 28:10Speaker 16: year that we've done that. You know me and Wes.
- 28:12Speaker 16: You know me and Sorell, Sorell and West. You know,
- 28:15Speaker 16: we all get to do it. Sherman's got a good
- 28:17Speaker 16: group chat of us and he loves to, you know,
- 28:20Speaker 16: talk about each game, win or lose, and just.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Stay us in touch with us.
- 28:23Speaker 11: You know, I have a lot of respect for coach Sherman.
- 28:25Speaker 1: All right. That's Jake Doer And that's a post game
- 28:30Speaker 1: from last night and again six point fifteen Friday here
- 28:35Speaker 1: on the zone for game one against oh I haven't
- 28:38Speaker 1: looked at the weather actually at Oxford, but maybe by
- 28:41Speaker 1: tomorrow I'll figure that out. Okay, we're gonna take a break.
- 28:45Speaker 1: We're gonna come back. We're gonna visit with doctor John Thornton.
- 28:48Speaker 1: It's it's been a while he's in for his regular
- 28:51Speaker 1: check up, but I think we we've waited a little long,
- 28:54Speaker 1: so we're gonna do that when we come back. Mallory's
- 28:57Speaker 1: here in the back half of the second hour with

- 29:24Speaker 1: check the belts, the hoses, all of that. They will
- 29:28Speaker 1: give you a road safety check. They do that, and

- 32:31Speaker 18: and those guys are really putting in some.
- 32:32Speaker 19: Work over there.

- 32:54Speaker 8: fighting on a bullet all.
- 32:57Speaker 11: Of his hair.
- 33:01Speaker 3: A shotgune.
- 33:02Speaker 21: Will has got all of his family that well, you
- 33:07Speaker 21: can't make a record if you ain't gotten nothing to say.
- 33:13Speaker 21: You can't mag a record if you ain't got nothing
- 33:16Speaker 21: to say.
- 33:20Speaker 8: You can't play music if you don't know nothing to
- 33:23Speaker 8: play a Shotgune Willis's around and his on beware finding
- 33:33Speaker 8: on a bullet.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Of his shotgun. Willie, and I appreciate you being with
- 33:38Speaker 1: us on all Willie. Wednesday, we're joined in studio by
- 33:41Speaker 1: doctor John Thornton, and I printed up all this stuff
- 33:46Speaker 1: about you and and it took like four pages to
- 33:50Speaker 1: print off with everything that that. Uh, some of this,
- 33:54Speaker 1: most of it I knew, some of it I didn't know,
- 33:57Speaker 1: And now I think I've lost all of it. But
- 34:00Speaker 1: I think since I think since we have been together
- 34:03Speaker 1: the last time, I don't think that I have talked
- 34:07Speaker 1: to you since you were inducted into the Southwest Conference
- 34:10Speaker 1: Hall of Fame. That is pretty cool. That got my attention.
- 34:15Speaker 13: Well, hey, I feel like I've done something If I
- 34:18Speaker 13: got your attention that I feel good today. No, it
- 34:21Speaker 13: was quite a surprise, but also a great opportunity to
- 34:26Speaker 13: reminisce back to great teammates, great coach, great experience here
- 34:32Speaker 13: Texas A and M, and not only the playing part,
- 34:35Speaker 13: but to be an assistant coach here. And I think
- 34:37Speaker 13: it's the culmination of all my doings in the Southwest Conference,
- 34:43Speaker 13: from being an assistant coach for Shelby and also radio
- 34:46Speaker 13: and still doing current radio and anyway, it was a
- 34:49Speaker 13: cool thing to be associated with a bunch of great
- 34:53Speaker 13: people that have gone through that.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I saw and I got to find
- 34:57Speaker 1: that because I saw the list that even the class
- 35:00Speaker 1: that you were inducted with, that's that's pretty cool.
- 35:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it was, And you know, it was really neat because.
- 35:06Speaker 1: We're all so you remember some of the guys who
- 35:08Speaker 1: were some of the guys us read from. Yeah, that's
- 35:10Speaker 1: the first one that I saw and from your era.
- 35:15Speaker 13: The picture that was all American. I'm like four years
- 35:19Speaker 13: in a row and I'm drawn.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Them here Texas at Texas.
- 35:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm drawing a blank right now.
- 35:24Speaker 1: I think that's okay.
- 35:25Speaker 13: Yeah, But so yeah, and it was cool and interacting
- 35:28Speaker 13: with them, you know after the.
- 35:30Speaker 3: Fat Yeah, and visiting with them and from every institution obviously,
- 35:34Speaker 3: so it was really neat.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Did you uh was dunking outlawed when you played or not?
- 35:41Speaker 3: And that's a cool story. And because of you. Yeah,
- 35:44Speaker 3: me and a guy.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Named and Al center.
- 35:46Speaker 3: Named lou Al Sender, Yeah yeah, Kareema builds bar ever yeah,
- 35:50Speaker 3: he and I. But that was the old deal that Shelby.
- 35:53Speaker 13: At one point I was I was g a and
- 35:55Speaker 13: and a reporter was interviewing him and the dunk came
- 36:00Speaker 13: senior year. Okay, okay, okay, coaches, is it gonna change
- 36:05Speaker 13: the way you coach or play with your team? And
- 36:08Speaker 13: coach mckip said, hey, I never told him they couldn't dunk.
- 36:12Speaker 1: The story the story I remember is when uh Texas
- 36:18Speaker 1: El Paso won the national championship, right that was sixty five.
- 36:23Speaker 1: I think Big Kentucky pat Riley and that team eight
- 36:27Speaker 1: off Rupp He told Latin was it David Lattin? Does
- 36:34Speaker 1: that sound right? He said, when you get the ball
- 36:37Speaker 1: the first play of the game, you dunk it up
- 36:41Speaker 1: to your elbows, and he did.
- 36:44Speaker 3: It was to send a.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Message right to that team. So the first play they
- 36:50Speaker 1: called is like you slammed that ball through. I don't
- 36:53Speaker 1: care what happens. I don't care if they kick you out.
- 36:56Speaker 1: You you slam that basketball through and it must have worked.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Yeah. He was a bad man.
- 37:04Speaker 1: He was a bad man.
- 37:05Speaker 13: Man.
- 37:05Speaker 1: That was a bad team too.
- 37:07Speaker 13: They had a coach that was as tough as you
- 37:09Speaker 13: can have on both sides.
- 37:11Speaker 1: I mean sure, absolutely, absolutely.
- 37:12Speaker 13: But Haskins at Utube was legendary for the brutal practices
- 37:17Speaker 13: and what those guys in doing it.
- 37:18Speaker 1: And I don't know how many stories are apocryphal, how
- 37:22Speaker 1: many of them are true. You know, there there are
- 37:24Speaker 1: all kinds of stories that that Rup was just an
- 37:27Speaker 1: avowed racist, and I don't know if that's true or not. Right,
- 37:31Speaker 1: this was the mid nineties, and I'm not excusing it
- 37:34Speaker 1: at all. It's the mid nineteen sixties, right, And there
- 37:38Speaker 1: there were no black players obviously in Kentucky or most places. Right.
- 37:44Speaker 3: Well, it didn't start until like their early early seventies.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Yes, that's well, and and then and then and and
- 37:50Speaker 1: and Guy V. Lewis started it in the sixties here
- 37:55Speaker 1: right in the state of Texas, well, Texas El Paso,
- 37:58Speaker 1: al Paso was never quite part of Texas. It was, Yeah,
- 38:03Speaker 1: I don't know, it was a little bit different, right, Uh,
- 38:06Speaker 1: But but it just wasn't right. And that's and and
- 38:09Speaker 1: really guy Lewis kind of started that, right.
- 38:12Speaker 13: Well, what I also think about the coaches, uh you
- 38:15Speaker 13: know a guy, yes, LB Killer, all these guys, I
- 38:19Speaker 13: think it speaks to them and even wouldn't to extend, Yes,
- 38:23Speaker 13: John all you know all white players, and then they
- 38:27Speaker 13: transitioned to you know, integration, yes, and in sport that
- 38:31Speaker 13: was dominated by black players, and were successful in all
- 38:34Speaker 13: three of those eras, which right speaks to them as
- 38:37Speaker 13: far as coaching and what they could do.
- 38:39Speaker 1: You know that this isn't funny, but but the phrase
- 38:42Speaker 1: that that went around during those days was you played
- 38:46Speaker 1: two black players at home, you play three if you're behind,
- 38:50Speaker 1: and you play four on the road. I mean, that's
- 38:54Speaker 1: just that's the era we're talking about, right, Yeah.
- 38:57Speaker 13: I mean I you know, I played throughout throughout my
- 39:01Speaker 13: career high school on it was integrated. So okay, I
- 39:05Speaker 13: never saw that. But even when I was coaching in
- 39:07Speaker 13: junior college when I mean you're talking about early eighties, yes, yeah,
- 39:14Speaker 13: you know, different locales in Texas, it was kind of
- 39:17Speaker 13: interesting in times when you took a team on the road.
- 39:19Speaker 3: So let's interesting you know that time ten caught up places.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Yes, yes, well, I mean unfortunately Texas was way behind
- 39:28Speaker 1: in that too, exactly. But what started happening is when uh,
- 39:32Speaker 1: and I know in football, basketball was probably a little
- 39:36Speaker 1: bit ahead of football even, right. And in football then
- 39:43Speaker 1: Bill Yoonman started recruiting black athletes at the University of
- 39:46Speaker 1: Houston and they started beating everybody exactly. And it wasn't
- 39:51Speaker 1: any great gesture on the part of some of these coaches.
- 39:54Speaker 1: It was the fact that they were getting their rears
- 39:56Speaker 1: beat and they needed to compete or they were going
- 39:59Speaker 1: to lose a job.
- 40:00Speaker 13: Well, one of the things I think too, you know,
- 40:01Speaker 13: sport and war, Yes, it's a pretty good equalizer.
- 40:05Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right.
- 40:05Speaker 13: Mare and war came around, and you know World War Two,
- 40:08Speaker 13: they were segregated, yes, outfits, and when Korean War and
- 40:11Speaker 13: then Vietnam, everybody ended up, you know, serving together.
- 40:16Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think, you know, the military had.
- 40:18Speaker 1: A big part, and I had thought about that, but
- 40:21Speaker 1: sports did too, as you mentioned exactly, right, it's a
- 40:23Speaker 1: it's a great equalizer. Are you know, everybody's in the
- 40:26Speaker 1: locker room together and we're either going to be together
- 40:29Speaker 1: and win or not.
- 40:30Speaker 13: Right, And you figured it out after a while. Well,
- 40:32Speaker 13: guess what we're all alike.
- 40:34Speaker 1: We're all the same, exactly exactly we're usually with John Thornton.
- 40:38Speaker 1: We're going to take a break. We will be back
- 40:42Speaker 1: for the Astros Report.
- 40:44Speaker 22: At Brads Valley Forlorn designed, the Morro family has helped

- 42:08Speaker 3: Kristan Walker goes Shork Britain.
- 42:10Speaker 7: Schuemak then hit a solo home run in the third
- 42:12Speaker 7: to make it to nothing. Astros and the pitching staff
- 42:15Speaker 7: did the rest to preserve the win. What an outing
- 42:17Speaker 7: for Peter Lambert, seven scoreless innings, scattering just three hits
- 42:20Speaker 7: to pick up his third win of the season. He's
- 42:22Speaker 7: now three and two and he spoke postgame on the outing.
- 42:25Speaker 11: Honestly, the defense was outstanding today.
- 42:26Speaker 10: Cam had a great day out there, and right Zach
- 42:29Speaker 10: ran a couple of bolts down in center Brandon that third.
- 42:33Speaker 11: So you know, all around, it was just great, great, great.

- 45:16Speaker 3: Wise Cry Right.
- 45:21Speaker 1: All Right, that's the song that put Willie in a
- 45:24Speaker 1: whole nother stratosphere off the Redheaded Stranger album. Uh, we're
- 45:29Speaker 1: in studio with doctor John Thornton. Vallery will be with
- 45:31Speaker 1: us at in the back half of the second hour,
- 45:35Speaker 1: and uh, we're just scattershooting stuff now. But you were
- 45:39Speaker 1: talking about Caruso last night at Oklahoma City. I think
- 45:42Speaker 1: they won Game one right against the Lakers.
- 45:44Speaker 3: Yeah, he did, and then they.
- 45:45Speaker 13: Got off to a little bit of a start, a
- 45:48Speaker 13: little adverse start, but might have had more to do
- 45:50Speaker 13: with Lebron James than it had to.
- 45:52Speaker 3: Do with them.
- 45:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I heard he played pretty well.
- 45:54Speaker 3: He really did. I mean they had to get off
- 45:55Speaker 3: the good start to being at their kind of underhanded obviously, right,
- 45:58Speaker 3: but now Luca know Luca.
- 46:01Speaker 13: But at the same time, it was you know what's
- 46:05Speaker 13: interesting about NBA basketball and the model that Oklahoma City has. Now,
- 46:11Speaker 13: it's more to the team, although they have one of
- 46:15Speaker 13: the best players that's playing in the game, and everybody
- 46:19Speaker 13: on that roster is good. But it's amazing the team
- 46:22Speaker 13: defense that they play, the turnovers they forced, the scoring
- 46:25Speaker 13: that they do in live game turnovers. Yeah, and then
- 46:29Speaker 13: how well they assist one another hit, hitting the open shot,
- 46:34Speaker 13: and the creation just offense as a unit as opposed
- 46:36Speaker 13: to s. Jay's kind of outlier, but he's a great
- 46:40Speaker 13: assist guy.
- 46:40Speaker 3: So I love their success. There's nothing to do with Alex. Laugh.
- 46:44Speaker 3: I love it because Alex is on that team. But
- 46:47Speaker 3: they're fun to watch.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, well, I mean Alex is part of that too, right,
- 46:51Speaker 1: I mean.
- 46:52Speaker 13: You know, by intention, the way that they the general
- 46:55Speaker 13: manager and the confidence they have and this doll of
- 46:59Speaker 13: play and who they want on this team and who
- 47:01Speaker 13: will fit into what they want to get done. They've
- 47:04Speaker 13: got a model that is just tremendous for them.
- 47:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:07Speaker 13: Yeah, And so yeah, I'm a big fan of what
- 47:10Speaker 13: you see there, and of course Alex.
- 47:12Speaker 3: I love seeing him. And that's an interesting.
- 47:14Speaker 13: Matchup to you think, because I think the last time
- 47:17Speaker 13: La won it was when he in the finals in
- 47:20Speaker 13: the bubble, he was the point guard.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely had to win, absolutely, yeah.
- 47:25Speaker 3: Yeah, they started him, yeah, and then win And so
- 47:27Speaker 3: now you go.
- 47:28Speaker 13: He's won another NBA championship and then he's playing his
- 47:31Speaker 13: old crew and.
- 47:32Speaker 3: Guarding Lebron last night.
- 47:34Speaker 13: He's no way, Oh yeah, Alex guards everybody that's any good.
- 47:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't care who it is.
- 47:39Speaker 13: Yeah, yeah, And so for the whenever he's in the
- 47:42Speaker 13: ball game, he starts out matching up with Lebron last night,
- 47:45Speaker 13: that's a challenge.
- 47:48Speaker 1: So I'm laughing because just yesterday I'm scrolling through and
- 47:52Speaker 1: there's another Larry Bird story at You know, Bird was
- 47:56Speaker 1: one of the legendary trash talkers in basketball history. And
- 48:01Speaker 1: they were playing I don't know, Denver somebody, and Denver
- 48:05Speaker 1: had this white guy guarding him, but he was known
- 48:09Speaker 1: as a really good defender and Bird was just torching him.
- 48:14Speaker 1: And he kept running by the bench, going, you better
- 48:17Speaker 1: get a black guy on me, because he didn't even
- 48:20Speaker 1: know about this guy's reputation, right, and he thought that
- 48:24Speaker 1: they were dissing him by putting a white guy on
- 48:28Speaker 1: him to guard him.
- 48:29Speaker 3: And he's gone.
- 48:31Speaker 1: He was steaming and he was killing this guy. And
- 48:35Speaker 1: you know, Michael Jordan was a lot like that, right.
- 48:38Speaker 1: They needed something to get them going. And I just
- 48:42Speaker 1: I just find that so interesting that.
- 48:46Speaker 13: He could do what he did in stay is focused
- 48:49Speaker 13: and concentrated on what he was doing too.
- 48:51Speaker 1: Sure, yeah, and I think it made it better and
- 48:54Speaker 1: not worse.
- 48:55Speaker 3: No, yeah, exactly. He looked for motivating.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Fact correct, And obviously MJ did. He was always bringing
- 49:03Speaker 1: and Tiger did the same, does the same thing. They
- 49:07Speaker 1: bring up these slights and how to get motivated.
- 49:10Speaker 13: Well, that's one thing about getting back to Alex's situation,
- 49:13Speaker 13: that what he brings to them. And I think it
- 49:15Speaker 13: was a pretty good example of why he is so
- 49:18Speaker 13: popular that yes, is off the charts popular with the
- 49:21Speaker 13: THUNDERBT and.
- 49:23Speaker 1: He passes and he covers. Yes, he does everything.
- 49:26Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a coach on the floor. Yeah. Also he's
- 49:29Speaker 3: a great athlete. Yeahs all that.
- 49:31Speaker 13: But you talk about Tariko was doing the game last
- 49:34Speaker 13: night and you know he's not just a a passing comment.
- 49:40Speaker 3: He's he's got the status.
- 49:41Speaker 13: Now absolutely one hundred people understand how important he is
- 49:44Speaker 13: to a team. And last night while he was going
- 49:47Speaker 13: to Lebron and this is what you by people love
- 49:50Speaker 13: him anyway. You know, of course he read a pass,
- 49:53Speaker 13: stolen the pass lane, got a dunk, you know, run
- 49:55Speaker 13: out dunk, made a couple of threes, I think, but
- 49:58Speaker 13: only shoots when he's open, makes everybody else better.
- 50:00Speaker 3: Yeah, that part covers Lebron.
- 50:03Speaker 13: Lebron swung an elbow and no arm not but he
- 50:07Speaker 13: caught him in the nose, and I mean buckle right
- 50:09Speaker 13: to the floor. Stop he's down, momentarily up put the
- 50:14Speaker 13: plug in his nose so that he can the bleeding.
- 50:17Speaker 13: Never misses the second of the game. But it also
- 50:20Speaker 13: reminded me that's what he is about. I mean, he's
- 50:23Speaker 13: an intense competitor, plays through whatever adversity that I remember
- 50:28Speaker 13: in the SEC tournament he went up and blocked his
- 50:32Speaker 13: shot or attempted to block a shot, maybe blocked it
- 50:34Speaker 13: and slammed his hand on the glass, you know, yes,
- 50:38Speaker 13: and he's a protruding bone out.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Of good gosh, I just came out of his finger,
- 50:43Speaker 1: out of the palm of his hand.
- 50:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:44Speaker 13: Yeah, And of course that's not good, and that is
- 50:47Speaker 13: not good locker rooms. Right before I half went in
- 50:49Speaker 13: the locker room, cleaned it all up so it up
- 50:51Speaker 13: came back played second half.
- 50:52Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, that's crazy.
- 50:54Speaker 3: People take seasons off when no doubt he's like.
- 50:56Speaker 1: That, no doubt, no doubt. I mean that's but you know,
- 50:59Speaker 1: if you're going to be among the best of the best,
- 51:03Speaker 1: then that's the mentality, right Yeah.
- 51:06Speaker 3: And his I mean, what he does is just phenomenal.
- 51:08Speaker 13: I love it for him, the family, you know, Mike
- 51:11Speaker 13: and Jackie and sisters and enjoying this and he's having
- 51:15Speaker 13: quite a career.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Oh, no doubt. And it's just fun to did you
- 51:21Speaker 1: did anybody anticipate that level of success when you don't watch.
- 51:25Speaker 13: It, I don't think anybody would have known that level
- 51:27Speaker 13: of success. But I think a lot of people knew
- 51:30Speaker 13: that he'd be successful in the NBA at the right place. Yes,
- 51:34Speaker 13: because he's one of those guys, and I think that
- 51:36Speaker 13: there are more people. He's a good role model for
- 51:39Speaker 13: people that want to get to the league in that
- 51:42Speaker 13: everybody thinks scoring is everything, which it helps if you're SGA. Yeah,
- 51:45Speaker 13: a thirty a game, but if you're not SGA, figure
- 51:48Speaker 13: out a way to make your spot very valuable for
- 51:52Speaker 13: coaches is just what I get done. You got a
- 51:55Speaker 13: problem on the bench, YEA thing I'm gonna do. Playing
- 51:58Speaker 13: time doesn't matter, But when I'm in there, I am.
- 52:00Speaker 13: I'm checking all the boxes of all the good things
- 52:03Speaker 13: I do. Last night, if you look at his plus minus,
- 52:05Speaker 13: you know they ended up winning by eighteen.
- 52:07Speaker 3: He had the more plus than anybody else in the
- 52:09Speaker 3: Wow twenty minutes. Wow I mean had twenty minutes. Yeah, yeah,
- 52:12Speaker 3: I mean that's yeah, he understands that that's his that
- 52:15Speaker 3: is his DNA.
- 52:16Speaker 13: Yeah, and whether it's block a shot, get a steal,
- 52:19Speaker 13: guard the tape.
- 52:20Speaker 1: I mean you, any any team in any sport has
- 52:24Speaker 1: to have at least one of those guys. Obviously in
- 52:27Speaker 1: football you need to feed more. But but in basketball,
- 52:30Speaker 1: one of those five better be one of those glue guys, right,
- 52:33Speaker 1: because you don't win without that.
- 52:35Speaker 13: You say, you know, journeyman, garbage man, glue guy. All
- 52:38Speaker 13: that stuff is is a don't take anything away from
- 52:42Speaker 13: athletic ability because his anticipation.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Skills, his we saw that here.
- 52:47Speaker 3: Yes, his quickness steals he's not stealing the ball from
- 52:51Speaker 3: a bunch of.
- 52:51Speaker 1: Chumps exactly, so exactly that he has.
- 52:55Speaker 3: That kind of impact U yeah, yeah, take note he's good.
- 52:58Speaker 1: Yeah yeah. And that's that's just a gift, right, that
- 53:02Speaker 1: anticipation and how you see the floor.
- 53:04Speaker 13: I don't know if if this makes sense or now,
- 53:06Speaker 13: but he anticipates.
- 53:07Speaker 3: What you anticipate. Yes, it's one thing, you know, it's
- 53:11Speaker 3: one thing.
- 53:11Speaker 13: You think you've got something going, well, he's three steps
- 53:14Speaker 13: ahead of you, right, And I mean you.
- 53:17Speaker 1: Know, I remember here as he was as he was
- 53:20Speaker 1: developing there were there were always there were turnovers, and
- 53:25Speaker 1: those turnovers was because I think his own guys were
- 53:28Speaker 1: not thinking the way as quickly, right and anticipating the
- 53:33Speaker 1: things that he was seeing.
- 53:35Speaker 3: On the court.
- 53:36Speaker 1: When I look back on that, I mean I was critical.
- 53:38Speaker 1: I was Look, you know, he's he's turning the ball
- 53:40Speaker 1: over too much, right, But a lot of that Now,
- 53:44Speaker 1: as you look back, it's like, well, the other guys
- 53:47Speaker 1: just weren't anticipating and seeing everything that he was seeing.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Is that fair?
- 53:52Speaker 3: I think that's very fair.
- 53:54Speaker 13: And I also, you know, it's also one of those
- 53:56Speaker 13: things that first of all, you don't understand because you
- 53:59Speaker 13: haven't played with him enough to know.
- 54:01Speaker 3: But he's also at a level that he sees things
- 54:03Speaker 3: you don't.
- 54:04Speaker 1: You don't see right right, right, all right, we're gonna
- 54:06Speaker 1: take a break, we're gonna come back. We're gonna talk
- 54:08Speaker 1: Bucky Ball and a couple other things. Doctor John Thornton
- 54:12Speaker 1: is kind enough to be with us here today. Uh.
- 54:15Speaker 1: And it's been too long, by the way, that's my fault,
- 54:18Speaker 1: but it's been too long. I appreciate I appreciate you
- 54:21Speaker 1: coming in.
- 54:22Speaker 13: Uh.
- 54:23Speaker 1: And I have to be nice to John because he's
- 54:26Speaker 1: he's one of the six listeners. I talked to somebody
- 54:31Speaker 1: else yesterday and he said, I'm still listening, and I went, wow,
- 54:37Speaker 1: I wish I would have tried harder, you know. So
- 54:39Speaker 1: that's that's that's always when I meet somebody going, you know,
- 54:42Speaker 1: I'm listening, I'm going I need to try I need
- 54:45Speaker 1: to try harder. Yeah, I don't know, because I'm getting
- 54:49Speaker 1: to the age where some of my listeners are aren't
- 54:51Speaker 1: with us anymore.
- 54:52Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
