- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, everybody, Welcome to the inside the Birds Super Bowl Recap.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Moscher. I have been previewing, as you know,
- 0:17Speaker 1: every game all week or every NFL weekend, from the
- 0:22Speaker 1: kickoff to all throughout the playoffs, and I figured it
- 0:26Speaker 1: would be a good way to end the year with
- 0:28Speaker 1: a recap of the Super Bowl. I was not able
- 0:31Speaker 1: to do it instantly after the game. I had a
- 0:33Speaker 1: lot of things going on, including my daughters's birthdays, but
- 0:38Speaker 1: I did want to put a bow here on the
- 0:42Speaker 1: Super Bowl won by the Seahawks twenty nine to thirteen.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Was it a great Super Bowl?
- 0:47Speaker 2: No?
- 0:48Speaker 1: Was it fun and exciting? Not really, But that's not
- 0:53Speaker 1: here or there. The Seahawks win twenty nine to thirteen,
- 0:57Speaker 1: an absolutely dominant performance on defense, and they win their
- 1:02Speaker 1: first Super Bowl since twenty thirteen. The reality is the
- 1:07Speaker 1: game was over very very early. You could see that
- 1:12Speaker 1: while both teams started off with good defensive pressure, Seattle's
- 1:17Speaker 1: defensive pressure was not only good and effective, but it
- 1:23Speaker 1: confused the Patriots and they really did not know how
- 1:29Speaker 1: to adjust. And that's on Josh McDaniels. That's on Drake
- 1:33Speaker 1: May you know, it's just basically you give credit to Seattle.
- 1:38Speaker 1: What they did was they came out and threw a
- 1:40Speaker 1: couple of second level blitzes early on at Drake May who, Yes,
- 1:46Speaker 1: he's been banged up. He's been banged up. We talked
- 1:49Speaker 1: about this. He's been taking a lot of hits. His
- 1:51Speaker 1: offensive line is not that great. We'll get to that
- 1:54Speaker 1: in a second. He's a young quarterback in his second
- 1:58Speaker 1: year going up against you know, an in credit a
- 2:01Speaker 1: very very good defense, and they did some things differently,
- 2:04Speaker 1: which you do in the Super Bowl. You get two
- 2:06Speaker 1: weeks to prepare. You know, you have to show. You
- 2:08Speaker 1: always see trick plays. Didn't see as many this time,
- 2:11Speaker 1: but the Super Bowl is always known for, you know,
- 2:13Speaker 1: one team, if not both, really pulling something out that
- 2:16Speaker 1: was special for that game that hasn't been seen before
- 2:19Speaker 1: or done much. And of course that's what Seattle did.
- 2:25Speaker 1: They came out with a couple of blitzes, got a
- 2:27Speaker 1: few free rides, few hits on the quarterback. The left
- 2:30Speaker 1: tackle for the Patriots is an issue. He's been an
- 2:34Speaker 1: issue throughout the playoffs. They did win fourteen games in
- 2:37Speaker 1: the regular season with him. But I would say that
- 2:42Speaker 1: this is something I mentioned in the Super Bowl preview
- 2:47Speaker 1: the Patriots deserve all the credit they get. And I
- 2:49Speaker 1: know Mike Vrabel won Coach of the Year and Drake
- 2:52Speaker 1: May had a fantastic year finished runner up MVP. They
- 2:56Speaker 1: played a very, very week schedule, all right. They were
- 3:01Speaker 1: the number two seed in the AFC. That doesn't mean
- 3:05Speaker 1: they were the second best team in the AFC. It
- 3:07Speaker 1: just meant they had the second best record. We all
- 3:09Speaker 1: know that every team plays different schedules, all right, So
- 3:13Speaker 1: the Patriots were a vastly improved team. Drake May was
- 3:17Speaker 1: a vastly improved player, but he still did a couple
- 3:21Speaker 1: of things throughout the year and even in the playoffs
- 3:24Speaker 1: that were warning signs. He holds onto the ball too long.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Second year player, he's going to do that. He's a
- 3:30Speaker 1: tremendous athlete, so he's able to get himself out of
- 3:33Speaker 1: some pressures. But I thought he waited too long. You know,
- 3:36Speaker 1: he took early hits. His offensive line didn't Helton. I
- 3:39Speaker 1: thought there were times that maybe he should drop back,
- 3:42Speaker 1: see it if it's not their run, because he did
- 3:44Speaker 1: that in the snowstorm against Denver. He's done it at
- 3:47Speaker 1: times throughout the year. But really, the advanced metrics on
- 3:50Speaker 1: him say that he holds on to the ball as
- 3:53Speaker 1: long as any quarterback in the league, and to his detriment,
- 3:57Speaker 1: he took sacks because of it. And in the playoffs,
- 4:01Speaker 1: when you're facing the best of the best, that stuff
- 4:03Speaker 1: can come back to haunt you. And the same thing
- 4:06Speaker 1: with the left tackle. He was able to survive all
- 4:09Speaker 1: year long despite the fact that you know, his quarterback
- 4:12Speaker 1: took some hits. This quarterback bailed him out by using
- 4:15Speaker 1: athletic plays. But Campbell's knock on him coming out of
- 4:20Speaker 1: LSU was that he is a short armed tackle and
- 4:23Speaker 1: some people felt he would really struggle at tackle and
- 4:26Speaker 1: you'd have to play him at guard. And after watching
- 4:28Speaker 1: the game, I'm not so sure that isn't correct. I
- 4:31Speaker 1: know people may have felt he may have felt validated
- 4:35Speaker 1: by going getting throughout the year and Patriots getting the
- 4:38Speaker 1: number two seed and having a good year in him
- 4:40Speaker 1: starting at left tackle. But when he faces edge defenders
- 4:44Speaker 1: who are long armed and stout, you know, like the
- 4:48Speaker 1: guys from the Texans who gave him issues in the
- 4:51Speaker 1: second round. You know, obviously in the championship game, the
- 4:54Speaker 1: guys from the Broncos gave him issues. He faces these
- 4:58Speaker 1: long armed guys who can get there hands into his
- 5:00Speaker 1: chest before he can. He was walked back into Drake
- 5:05Speaker 1: May's lap at least three or four times in the
- 5:08Speaker 1: first quarter alone. He really struggled, and he had May
- 5:12Speaker 1: under duress, and then with the Seahawks blitzing on top
- 5:15Speaker 1: of that early, it just threw New England's offense into
- 5:19Speaker 1: total dysfunction and May did not look good. He had
- 5:24Speaker 1: a terrible Super Bowl. You know, we'll see if he
- 5:27Speaker 1: learns from it and he can get back At two
- 5:29Speaker 1: hundred and ninety five yards. Looks good on the stat sheet,
- 5:32Speaker 1: but you guys all saw it. Even the sixty three
- 5:35Speaker 1: percent completion percentage not that great. His passer rating really
- 5:41Speaker 1: tells the story. At seventy nine point one, six sacts,
- 5:45Speaker 1: two interceptions. Now it's gonna be said. I think that
- 5:51Speaker 1: Drake May. The moment was too big for Drake May.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I don't know about that. He didn't play well, but
- 5:57Speaker 1: it's not like he had five or six sects in
- 6:00Speaker 1: the pocket all the time and he just made poor throws.
- 6:04Speaker 1: He was under dress, he was hit hard, he didn't
- 6:09Speaker 1: find good times to run when he should have. But
- 6:12Speaker 1: he didn't look like to me a deer in the headlights.
- 6:14Speaker 1: He looked to me like a guy whose internal clock
- 6:17Speaker 1: was sped up because of the defensive pressure. It wasn't
- 6:22Speaker 1: sped up because of perceived pressure. He wasn't in the
- 6:27Speaker 1: pocket getting antsy and jittery when nothing was there, or
- 6:29Speaker 1: just because the pocket was closing around him. He was
- 6:32Speaker 1: getting hit. He's getting hit a lot. He's getting hit
- 6:35Speaker 1: often by a good team. The best defense in the
- 6:39Speaker 1: NFL was playing like the best defense in the NFL.
- 6:43Speaker 1: So I don't know that it was that he wasn't
- 6:47Speaker 1: ready for the that the moment was too big for him.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I just think as a second year quarterback, he hasn't
- 6:52Speaker 1: seen any everything. He's on a huge stage for the
- 6:55Speaker 1: first time. His offensive line is letting him down, and
- 6:59Speaker 1: his his internal clock is sped up to the point
- 7:02Speaker 1: where he had about three or four passes that weren't terrible.
- 7:06Speaker 1: They were either right off an outstretched hand. There were
- 7:09Speaker 1: a couple that were dropped, and then he had a
- 7:11Speaker 1: bunch that were thrown behind because his internal clock was
- 7:14Speaker 1: sped up, and that just led up led to a
- 7:17Speaker 1: dysfunctional offense. And you know he bears the proNT of
- 7:20Speaker 1: that for sure. He didn't play good. I'm not trying
- 7:22Speaker 1: to sit here and tell you that Drake may played
- 7:25Speaker 1: a good game where it wasn't bad. He was bad.
- 7:27Speaker 1: The numbers are bad. The interception he threw after the
- 7:32Speaker 1: touchdown to Hollins, when it looked like maybe they were
- 7:35Speaker 1: starting to get some rhythm. He gets that nice touchdown, Hollands,
- 7:39Speaker 1: great catch in the fourth quarter. All of a sudden,
- 7:42Speaker 1: it's nineteen seven, they get the ball back, and then
- 7:45Speaker 1: he tries to throw the deep over to Hollins. Again.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I forget who he was trying to throw the deep
- 7:53Speaker 1: over to, but it was nowhere near the receiver and
- 7:57Speaker 1: then it was picked off and that was basically Cyanara
- 8:02Speaker 1: as Julian Love, the former Giant, picked it off. That
- 8:05Speaker 1: was Cyanora for the seat for the Patriots. That was
- 8:10Speaker 1: a bad throw. That throat in itself looked like the
- 8:13Speaker 1: throw of a guy who maybe was crumbling in the moment.
- 8:16Speaker 1: But again, that was the fourth quarter. It was nineteen seven.
- 8:20Speaker 1: It's not like, you know, that's a twelve point game.
- 8:23Speaker 1: They had generated a little bit of offense on their
- 8:25Speaker 1: drive before a nice thirty five yard touchdown. It's not
- 8:28Speaker 1: like this guy was throwing picks left and right. I
- 8:32Speaker 1: mean when he fumbled it's because he was hit hard,
- 8:36Speaker 1: which he did twice. This was a masterclass by Seattle's defense.
- 8:42Speaker 1: And yes, they faced a team that, let's be honest,
- 8:48Speaker 1: I think it's fair to say. I think it's fair
- 8:51Speaker 1: to say the Patriots shouldn't have been in the Super Bowl.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I mentioned this last show. This is not back their
- 8:57Speaker 1: second guessing. I mentioned that they kind of got lot,
- 9:00Speaker 1: you know. I mean, they faced Jared's did him in
- 9:03Speaker 1: the AFC Championship. I think if bo Nicks were playing
- 9:05Speaker 1: that game, that the Broncos would have had a much better
- 9:07Speaker 1: chance of winning the game. I mean Stidham really made
- 9:11Speaker 1: some terrible talk about the moment being too big. That
- 9:14Speaker 1: was an example. I mean he's throwing balls with both
- 9:16Speaker 1: of his hands like touch passes and just making bad decisions.
- 9:21Speaker 1: And of course the snowstorm that came and that that
- 9:25Speaker 1: Sean Payton made a bad didn't made a bad decision
- 9:27Speaker 1: and not take the three on the second after they
- 9:30Speaker 1: scored the touchdown the next drive. So I think the
- 9:33Speaker 1: Patriots in that regard got a little lucky. And then
- 9:35Speaker 1: even in the AFC Divisional round, they played a Texas
- 9:39Speaker 1: team that didn't have Nico Collins, that's their best player.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I don't think the Patriots were the second best team
- 9:45Speaker 1: in the AAC. I actually think or the best team,
- 9:49Speaker 1: I should say. I think the Broncos were better. And
- 9:52Speaker 1: maybe if the Texans had Nico Collins, things would have
- 9:54Speaker 1: been a little bit different in that game. I don't know,
- 9:58Speaker 1: but listen, they were there. I'm not trying to take
- 10:00Speaker 1: credit away from him. I'm just trying to say this
- 10:02Speaker 1: was the Super Bowl, was the NFC Championship between the
- 10:05Speaker 1: Seahawks and the Rams. Those were the two best teams
- 10:08Speaker 1: in the NFL. You want to tell me the Broncos maybe, okay,
- 10:12Speaker 1: top three, but I don't think the Patriots were a
- 10:15Speaker 1: top three team in the NFL. They give him a
- 10:18Speaker 1: lot of credit. They won a bunch of games, they
- 10:22Speaker 1: survived all year long on Drake May evolving into one
- 10:26Speaker 1: of the better deep ball throwers in the National Football League.
- 10:30Speaker 1: But when you came down to having to face the
- 10:33Speaker 1: Seahawks and they're great defense and your best weapon, you
- 10:38Speaker 1: knew they were going to take the run game out.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I mean, you just know the Seahawks are not going
- 10:42Speaker 1: to get beat by Ramandre Stevenson or Trevieran Henderson and
- 10:45Speaker 1: they didn't, so you knew that Drake May was going
- 10:48Speaker 1: to have to play like an MVP candidate. And honestly,
- 10:51Speaker 1: when you know Steph Diggs is your best player and
- 10:55Speaker 1: your second second best player in the receiving corps, who
- 10:58Speaker 1: I mean is it is Pop Douglas. I mean mac
- 11:02Speaker 1: collins was their leader in receiving yards, and I think
- 11:05Speaker 1: that's a problem when thirty one year old mc collins
- 11:07Speaker 1: is your leading receiver. So I just don't think the
- 11:10Speaker 1: Patriots had enough firepower, and especially when they didn't have
- 11:14Speaker 1: the protection that they needed to give Drake May time
- 11:19Speaker 1: to find those guys, but they have a good foundation.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Will be tough for them to get back. Yeah, it'll
- 11:24Speaker 1: be tough, obviously. You know, the Bills are going to
- 11:28Speaker 1: rebuild and retool a little bit and try to get
- 11:31Speaker 1: Josh Allen a little more help. And it's been a
- 11:34Speaker 1: rare It was a rare season for the AFC where
- 11:37Speaker 1: you didn't have Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs.
- 11:42Speaker 1: So we'll see, you know, obviously, Mike Vrabel's a good coach.
- 11:45Speaker 1: McDaniel's a good coordinator may made strides, but you know,
- 11:51Speaker 1: they really need a little bit more help on the
- 11:53Speaker 1: offensive line, and they need a little more help in
- 11:56Speaker 1: the past game especially. I like what I saw from Henderson.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Trevion Henderson is a rookie running back. He'll continue to improve.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Defense looked very good. You know, that's the thing that
- 12:07Speaker 1: gets lost in this is that, you know, what would
- 12:10Speaker 1: the score have been. It was twelve to nothing at halftime,
- 12:12Speaker 1: what would the score have been if the Patriots didn't
- 12:15Speaker 1: have Christian Gonzalez, who you know broke batted away one
- 12:19Speaker 1: pass deep down the field. I don't know if that
- 12:21Speaker 1: one would have definitely been caught, but it was a
- 12:24Speaker 1: hell of a job for him batting the ball away.
- 12:27Speaker 1: The second one was in the end zone covering Smith
- 12:31Speaker 1: and Jigba, and I got a good feeling that would
- 12:33Speaker 1: have been caught if he didn't bat it away. So
- 12:35Speaker 1: you might have had a situation where at that point
- 12:38Speaker 1: it became, you know, sixteen nothing instead of uh, let's
- 12:43Speaker 1: see twelve nothing, right, it could have been sixteen nothing,
- 12:47Speaker 1: and then you know you're you have even more points
- 12:50Speaker 1: there going forward, and your your offense is in a rhythm.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Sky Motor Cars and West Guts. It was a different
- 12:55Speaker 2: building the others. All the thanks is one one with
- 12:57Speaker 2: their high line pret on vehicles and people over the
- 13:00Speaker 2: county seat Totor Fred Siler. Make sure you don't spend
- 13:03Speaker 2: the time with your money before you purchased the car.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Sky motor Cars allows you to make all the decisions
- 13:09Speaker 2: regarding your next day. At sky Motor Cars, you never
- 13:12Speaker 2: have to spend more than necessary because a skymotorcars dot
- 13:15Speaker 2: Com today for called sixteen nine to one, eight seven five.
- 13:23Speaker 1: The Seahawks were just dominant. They they had a They
- 13:27Speaker 1: were better than not only the Patriots offense, but they
- 13:31Speaker 1: were even better than the Patriots defense, and the Patriots
- 13:34Speaker 1: defense was pretty good. Sam Darnold got into a rhythm
- 13:39Speaker 1: in the second half, you know, obviously led him on
- 13:42Speaker 1: four field goal drives. To start off with the touchdown
- 13:45Speaker 1: to Barner was a really well scripted play. Action from
- 13:50Speaker 1: under center got Barner completely free in the end zone.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Good pass. That's a Clint Kubiak special right there. A
- 13:58Speaker 1: little I think it was split flow arrangement with the
- 14:01Speaker 1: tight end who's crossing the line of scrimmage, takes gets
- 14:04Speaker 1: everybody shifting and then the next thing you know, the
- 14:07Speaker 1: tight ends running in the opposite direction, he's open. You
- 14:10Speaker 1: see that with McVeigh offenses, and look the Eagles fans,
- 14:13Speaker 1: you're hoping to see that with the Sean Mannion offense.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Some under center, some motion, some play action, and some
- 14:20Speaker 1: easy defined reads for the quarterback to get the ball
- 14:24Speaker 1: to his targets. And that was a really nice play.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Was it a great pass? It didn't have to be.
- 14:29Speaker 1: It was fine, But it was really the play call
- 14:33Speaker 1: and the situation that set that up. And then when
- 14:36Speaker 1: they went up nineteen to nothing, like I said it was,
- 14:40Speaker 1: it looked over. Patriots get the touchdown and make it
- 14:43Speaker 1: nineteen seven. But then right away, even after a Seahawks
- 14:47Speaker 1: three and out, Patriots get the ball back. May throws
- 14:50Speaker 1: the interception and then from then it's Cyanara no good.
- 14:55Speaker 1: You know, the Patriots don't have it from there. Obviously.
- 15:00Speaker 1: It's a big, big accomplished from Mike McDonald in his
- 15:04Speaker 1: second year as the Seahawks head coach. He has put
- 15:07Speaker 1: together a brilliant defense that doesn't have a guy who
- 15:13Speaker 1: is a star caliber player like a Micah Parsons or
- 15:17Speaker 1: a you know, a Trey Hendricks, and someone's gonna get
- 15:20Speaker 1: you twelve to fifteen sacks right a year. He doesn't
- 15:24Speaker 1: have that kind of player, but he has so many
- 15:27Speaker 1: good players in the secondary and a lot of really good,
- 15:30Speaker 1: long athletic players up front. If you didn't know much
- 15:33Speaker 1: about Darrek Hall, he clearly won that matchup against Campbell.
- 15:37Speaker 1: All right, NUOSU. Good player has been a good player
- 15:39Speaker 1: in the league for a couple of years. Mafe comes
- 15:42Speaker 1: in off the bench. Jaron reed Dexter Lawrence who called
- 15:46Speaker 1: a shot. Tank Lawrence said, I'm sorry, DeMarcus Lawrence, said,
- 15:51Speaker 1: Dexter Lawrence. DeMarcus Lawrence called his shot. He left the
- 15:54Speaker 1: Cowboys signed with Seahawks. He made a controversial mark that said,
- 15:58Speaker 1: I loved my time in Dallas, but I knew I
- 16:00Speaker 1: couldn't win the Super Bowl there. At the time, Micah
- 16:03Speaker 1: Parsons criticized him because Parsons was still with the Cowboys.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Other Cowboys criticized them. Well, what guess what, he was right.
- 16:10Speaker 1: He still had Joe left in the tank, no pun intended,
- 16:14Speaker 1: and he goes to Seattle, does a great job amazingly.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I think they I read his wife was something like
- 16:19Speaker 1: thirty six weeks pregnant and she was at the game there.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Good for him that he was able to play in
- 16:24Speaker 1: the game, and I don't believe his wife went into labor.
- 16:26Speaker 1: I'm and warrior the safety very good, kind of the
- 16:31Speaker 1: centerpiece to everything they do. And good for former Eagle
- 16:34Speaker 1: Josh job who. Let's be real, he got away with
- 16:37Speaker 1: punching Steph Diggs there and some unnecessary rough I mean
- 16:41Speaker 1: they didn't even throw a flag. He not only hit
- 16:43Speaker 1: him late, but then he punched him in a scrum.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Not great for Josh Job there, but a good game.
- 16:48Speaker 1: He'll make a nice payday in free agency. In general,
- 16:52Speaker 1: most of these Seahawks I believe will be back. I
- 16:56Speaker 1: don't think they have a ton of free agents. Byron Murphy,
- 16:59Speaker 1: their first round pick is really good. So the Seahawks
- 17:02Speaker 1: will certainly be a team that is in contention next year.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Now they have to deal with the same thing that
- 17:09Speaker 1: the Eagles just dealt with and losing their offensive coordinator.
- 17:13Speaker 1: The Eagles won the Super Bowl, they lost Kellen Moore
- 17:16Speaker 1: to the New Orleans Saints head coaching job. Now the
- 17:19Speaker 1: Seahawks will lose Clint Kubiak to the Raiders. Good luck
- 17:24Speaker 1: to Clint Kubiak there, he'll become their head coach, and
- 17:26Speaker 1: now the Seahawks have to find the right guy. And
- 17:30Speaker 1: this is a big deal because the Seahawks, the Seahawks,
- 17:34Speaker 1: they were, they were at ten and seventeen in two.
- 17:37Speaker 1: They're a good team, but they weren't a great team,
- 17:40Speaker 1: all right, And then they made the really bold decision.
- 17:42Speaker 1: The first thing they did was they hired Clint Kubiak.
- 17:45Speaker 1: That well, the first thing Mike McDonald did was fire
- 17:48Speaker 1: Ryan Grubb, his offensive coordinator, who came from University of Washington.
- 17:53Speaker 1: He was there and put together that offense that was
- 17:55Speaker 1: so explosive with Pennix, with Roma Dunes, Jail McMillan, all
- 18:02Speaker 1: those guys from Washington who had a great you know,
- 18:03Speaker 1: they went to the National Championship Game, lost to Michigan.
- 18:08Speaker 1: But Ryan Grubb didn't farewell in his first year in
- 18:11Speaker 1: the NFL, and so Mike McDonald made the difficult decision
- 18:14Speaker 1: to part ways with him. Hired Clint Kubiak. Totally changed
- 18:18Speaker 1: the offense. When you hire Clint Kubiak, you're getting a
- 18:20Speaker 1: Shanahan style of offense. And so the next thing they
- 18:24Speaker 1: did was get a better fit for that system. So
- 18:28Speaker 1: they trade Gino Smith to the Raiders, and then they
- 18:31Speaker 1: signed Sam Donald in free agency. Donald just comes off
- 18:35Speaker 1: a great year playing for Kevin O'Connell with the Vikings,
- 18:39Speaker 1: and so you see some similarity there. O'Connell runs. You know,
- 18:43Speaker 1: O'Connell's from the same McVeigh Shanahan style. Tree. Kubiak, who
- 18:48Speaker 1: at one point also coached in Minnesota offensive coordinator, takes
- 18:53Speaker 1: over the offense. He has the right fit because Sam
- 18:56Speaker 1: had played in a similar offense the year before, and
- 18:59Speaker 1: that sentence the Seahawks becoming a much more efficient offensive team.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Not an explosive one. Jackson, Smith and Jigba is explosive,
- 19:08Speaker 1: but in general you wouldn't call it a very prolific
- 19:12Speaker 1: explosive offense outside of the three to four big shots
- 19:16Speaker 1: you would get from down under center play action per
- 19:20Speaker 1: game from Donald to Smith and Jigba who and by
- 19:23Speaker 1: the way, him coming back into the game, he had
- 19:25Speaker 1: a tough game, he laughed, got checked for concussion, had
- 19:28Speaker 1: ten targets, only caught four passes. You know, the Patriots
- 19:32Speaker 1: did a good job. Again, Gonzales did a really good
- 19:34Speaker 1: job on Smith and Jigba, but they moved Smith and
- 19:37Speaker 1: Jigba around. Kopp came through with a really nice game
- 19:42Speaker 1: six for sixty one, had a huge third down catch,
- 19:46Speaker 1: and he's contributed a lot of big third down catches. Now,
- 19:50Speaker 1: Mike McDonald said something to the effect of Cooper Cup
- 19:55Speaker 1: should be a first ball, should be a Hall of Famer, Folks,
- 19:59Speaker 1: Cooper Cup is not a Hall of Famer. He has
- 20:01Speaker 1: had two years where he's been a thousand yard receiver. Okay,
- 20:06Speaker 1: I know he had the great year. I can't even
- 20:09Speaker 1: remember three or four years ago with the Rams where
- 20:12Speaker 1: he had the triple Crown. Okay, yards, receptions, touchdowns, all that.
- 20:15Speaker 1: He was Super Bowl MVP. He was a great player
- 20:18Speaker 1: with the Rams. Okay, he had a great year. He's
- 20:21Speaker 1: also been banged up so much that he's not been
- 20:25Speaker 1: the great player that he once was. He's a good player,
- 20:29Speaker 1: he's an important player. But to say a guy with
- 20:32Speaker 1: two thousand yard seasons in six or seven years as
- 20:35Speaker 1: a Hall of Famer, I mean, I get it, you're
- 20:38Speaker 1: in the U four fouria of winning a Super Bowl.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Everything is great, but that was kind of a ridiculous statement.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I don't think Cooper Cup is going to be a
- 20:46Speaker 1: Hall of Famer. And Walker, you know, was the Super
- 20:50Speaker 1: Bowl MVP. He did an excellent job. Didn't score a touchdown,
- 20:54Speaker 1: but you know, ran the ball really efficiently and really
- 20:57Speaker 1: well one hundred and thirty five rushing yards against again,
- 21:01Speaker 1: a Patriots defense that was really good, played really well
- 21:04Speaker 1: for the most part, held you know, held the Seahawks
- 21:08Speaker 1: to four field goals in the first half, as the
- 21:10Speaker 1: Seahawks moved the ball but just couldn't get that, you know,
- 21:13Speaker 1: they just they couldn't get the ball into the end
- 21:16Speaker 1: zone in the first half because the Patriots did a
- 21:18Speaker 1: good job themselves of pressuring up the a gaps. Seattle's
- 21:23Speaker 1: interior offensive line is not good. The center in the
- 21:26Speaker 1: right guard are both ranked low and PFF's pass blocking grades.
- 21:30Speaker 1: And when you operate mainly or a lot out of
- 21:35Speaker 1: under center play action, those are slow developing plays. Your
- 21:39Speaker 1: quarterback has to take the ball, turn his back to
- 21:42Speaker 1: the defense, fake the handoff, turn around, set his feet,
- 21:47Speaker 1: and throw. It's an effective play when you get the
- 21:51Speaker 1: defense to bite on play action, but it's not always
- 21:54Speaker 1: an effective play when you're facing a defense that's gonna
- 21:57Speaker 1: blitz and bring more players than you can block, because
- 22:00Speaker 1: as soon as you turn around, as soon as you're
- 22:02Speaker 1: the quarterback and you fake the handoff and you turn around,
- 22:05Speaker 1: you got a guy running through the a gap in
- 22:07Speaker 1: your face. It's tough. And you saw Darnold made some
- 22:11Speaker 1: really nice throws early on the first second quarter under
- 22:16Speaker 1: duress while he was getting hit, threaded a couple windows
- 22:19Speaker 1: and that's why they were able to get those four
- 22:21Speaker 1: field goals. But a lot of times he was also
- 22:23Speaker 1: making throws that were off the mark because his internal
- 22:27Speaker 1: clock was sped up too. He's trying to get the
- 22:29Speaker 1: ball out. He made a few throws that should have
- 22:31Speaker 1: been picked. And we already mentioned the two throws that
- 22:35Speaker 1: Gonzalez got his hands on. So wasn't a great day
- 22:39Speaker 1: for quarterbacks. Two good defenses going up against it. Now,
- 22:43Speaker 1: you might hear that this Seahawks defense that they call
- 22:47Speaker 1: the dark Side is up there with the greatest Super
- 22:52Speaker 1: Bowl defenses ever. I've already heard that leading a Boom Ravens,
- 22:57Speaker 1: and I'm just not there, Listen, I am not there.
- 23:00Speaker 1: This was a very good defense. They were the best
- 23:02Speaker 1: defense in the NFL. It was a defensive year. But
- 23:06Speaker 1: I just can't put them in the elite company. You know,
- 23:10Speaker 1: I wasn't old. I wasn't old enough to see the
- 23:13Speaker 1: Steel Curtain Steelers. Okay, they won a bunch of Super Bowls,
- 23:17Speaker 1: they had a bunch of Hall of Famers. So I've
- 23:20Speaker 1: never watched the Steel Curtain outside of some foot old footage.
- 23:24Speaker 1: But I'm gonna guess that this Seahawks defense probably isn't
- 23:27Speaker 1: on par with them. I think the you know, the
- 23:31Speaker 1: Lawrence Taylor Giants that just crushed the Broncos in the
- 23:34Speaker 1: Super Bowl and then upset the Bills in the infamous
- 23:39Speaker 1: Scott Norwood Wide Ride game. That was a really, really
- 23:42Speaker 1: good defense as well. You have the of course, the
- 23:47Speaker 1: two thousand Ravens defense, the Legion of Boom. Yeah, I'm
- 23:52Speaker 1: not sure I can put this Seattle Seahawks defense in
- 23:56Speaker 1: that echelon. Maybe if they win a couple more Super Bowls,
- 24:00Speaker 1: we'll look back on this one differently. But I think
- 24:04Speaker 1: this is a very good defense. But you have to
- 24:07Speaker 1: also look at the other side of the field. You know,
- 24:10Speaker 1: the Patriots were not very good offensively. Again, you know,
- 24:16Speaker 1: it was a down year for offense in the NFL.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Whenever the Seahawks had to play the Rams, they won
- 24:21Speaker 1: the games, but they gave up a lot of points.
- 24:23Speaker 1: I mean they were given up There were hemorrhaging points
- 24:25Speaker 1: against the Rams and quickly too. So I can't really
- 24:29Speaker 1: sit here and say this Seattle Seahawks defense is one
- 24:32Speaker 1: of the greatest of all times. In the Divisional round,
- 24:35Speaker 1: I mean they played a forty nine ers team that
- 24:38Speaker 1: had nothing, That had nothing, I mean George Kittle was
- 24:42Speaker 1: lost against the Eagles in the wild card round. No receivers.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I mean they had Christian McCaffrey. That's just about it.
- 24:49Speaker 1: So I can't until they shut down in a big
- 24:53Speaker 1: playoff game or a Super Bowl game, one of the
- 24:56Speaker 1: big quarterbacks, whether it's a Mahomes or whether it's Josh Allen,
- 25:01Speaker 1: you know, something like that, even if they have to
- 25:03Speaker 1: face Hurts and the Eagles or something like that, they're
- 25:06Speaker 1: just you know, I can't. Yes, they beat Stafford, but
- 25:10Speaker 1: they give up a lot of points to Stafford. Yes
- 25:12Speaker 1: they won the Super Bowl in dominant fashion, but I
- 25:15Speaker 1: cannot put them up there with the great great all
- 25:18Speaker 1: time defenses.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying

- 28:35Speaker 1: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 28:39Speaker 1: one and up. There have been some good teams that
- 28:42Speaker 1: have won a championship because of their defense that their defense, though,
- 28:50Speaker 1: wasn't considered one of the greatest of all times. In fact,
- 28:53Speaker 1: maybe Peyton Manning's last Super Bowl with the Broncos when
- 28:57Speaker 1: they beat who the heck they beat the Panthers, right,
- 29:00Speaker 1: that was a really good Broncos defense that basically took
- 29:04Speaker 1: the job. I mean, they took the wheel. If you
- 29:07Speaker 1: remember that game, Peyton Manning, you know he was not
- 29:10Speaker 1: I think his neck was starting to bother again physically.
- 29:13Speaker 1: He was not the Peyton Manning that we all knew.
- 29:16Speaker 1: And so what Gary Kubiak did was say, we're gonna
- 29:19Speaker 1: run the ball, We're gonna play very conservatively and let
- 29:22Speaker 1: our defense win. Von Miller was had a couple of
- 29:25Speaker 1: sacks and a couple of forced fumbles. He was the
- 29:27Speaker 1: MVP of that game. That was a really good defense
- 29:30Speaker 1: by the Broncos. But you're not putting that Broncos defense
- 29:33Speaker 1: that year up with some of the legendary defenses of
- 29:36Speaker 1: all times. And that's where that's where I'm at here
- 29:39Speaker 1: with the Seahawks dark side defense, very good. We'll see
- 29:43Speaker 1: if they can win a few more. I just don't
- 29:46Speaker 1: know that they have anybody. I like Witherspoon, I like
- 29:50Speaker 1: im and Worry. I'm not trying to downplay them. I
- 29:53Speaker 1: like Murphy, their lineman. I don't know if that's to
- 29:57Speaker 1: me equivalent to having Role Thomas, to having Richard Sherman Chancellor.
- 30:04Speaker 1: They had some pretty good studs up front. They had
- 30:06Speaker 1: Michael Bennett, they had April Bobby Wagner. You know, he
- 30:11Speaker 1: was probably gonna go to the Hall of Fame at linebacker.
- 30:13Speaker 1: So I just can't put this team with the legion
- 30:16Speaker 1: of boom yet. They're gonna have to get back to
- 30:18Speaker 1: the Super Bowl, if not next year soon and then
- 30:21Speaker 1: they're gonna have to beat some you know, a couple
- 30:23Speaker 1: of really really big time offenses or big time quarterbacks
- 30:27Speaker 1: for me to look at the dark side defense and say, yes,
- 30:31Speaker 1: they can take their place among the echelon of the
- 30:34Speaker 1: great dynastic NFL defenses throughout the history of the sport.
- 30:41Speaker 1: So that's about it. I think that we've covered it.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Congratulations to the Seahawks. You know, obviously they had a
- 30:47Speaker 1: wonderful season. This is not the team a lot of
- 30:49Speaker 1: people felt would be Super Bowl champions at the end,
- 30:51Speaker 1: but you kind of as the season was going on,
- 30:54Speaker 1: you could see how well that defense was playing. You
- 30:57Speaker 1: could see Darnold really starting to fit within the offense.
- 31:01Speaker 1: And even though I felt that the Rams were the
- 31:03Speaker 1: best team in football, by the last month of the season,
- 31:07Speaker 1: you could see the Seahawks were playing excellent football and
- 31:09Speaker 1: it was gonna come down to those two teams most likely,
- 31:13Speaker 1: which it did, and they were able to edge the
- 31:16Speaker 1: Rams and get into the playoffs with the number one seed,
- 31:20Speaker 1: and from there it was pretty much, I don't want
- 31:22Speaker 1: to say it was a given, but they looked like
- 31:24Speaker 1: they were on track to get to the Super Bowl.
- 31:27Speaker 1: And then at that point, it just became who are
- 31:29Speaker 1: you gonna face. You're gonna face the Broncos, You're gonna
- 31:32Speaker 1: face the Patriots. Is it gonna be like the Jags
- 31:36Speaker 1: or the Texans one of those defensive oriented teams with
- 31:39Speaker 1: the Bills gonna finally do it with Josh Allen. But
- 31:42Speaker 1: I think this Seahawks team would have beaten any of
- 31:44Speaker 1: those teams, to be honest with you, but I do
- 31:47Speaker 1: believe some of the other teams might have given the
- 31:51Speaker 1: Seahawks a better game. And we will leave it at that.
- 31:56Speaker 1: That has been the Super Bowl XL Recap. This was
- 32:00Speaker 1: the last recap show of the twenty twenty five season.
- 32:03Speaker 1: It's officially over, and as I told you, not only
- 32:06Speaker 1: am I going to do some some more stuff like
- 32:09Speaker 1: this in the off season, kind of going through the
- 32:12Speaker 1: news that is in the NFL and giving you my
- 32:15Speaker 1: opinion on it. But Adam Kaplan and I will do
- 32:18Speaker 1: some NFL oriented shows as well as we you know,
- 32:23Speaker 1: look at the NFL and how it changes this offseason,
- 32:26Speaker 1: and see who'll be ready to be back in twenty
- 32:29Speaker 1: twenty six to compete for the next Super Bowl, which
- 32:32Speaker 1: will be in California again at SOFI Stadium in Los Angeles.
- 32:38Speaker 1: All right, everybody, thanks for watching all season long. Really
- 32:41Speaker 1: appreciate the feedback everything, all the audience, the views, the listens.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Appreciate it all and look forward to doing it again
- 32:50Speaker 1: as we go along. Have a great one.
