- 2:50Sunny mornings send you. In local news, this
- 2:55year's Question 5 asks voters whether to update
- 2:58a law allowing taxpayers to receive money back
- 3:01from the state. Originally passed in 1986, this
- 3:05law, known as Chapter 62F, requires rebates when
- 3:09tax collections exceed a certain threshold. The
- 3:13law was triggered once in 1987, but largely faded
- 3:17from public memory until a revenue surge in 2022
- 3:20prompted $3 billion in refunds. Supporters argue
- 3:25that the proposed changes would strengthen fiscal
- 3:28guardrails. while opponents warn of potential
- 3:30budget chaos leading to cuts in education and
- 3:33public services. If passed, the changes would
- 3:37take effect on July 1, 2027. Now on to sports.
- 3:48Last night on Thursday Night Football, Cleveland
- 3:51beat Pittsburgh 27 -24, and the game turned on
- 3:55the final two minutes. Pittsburgh scored a touchdown
- 4:00and converted a two -point try -to -tie -it -late.
- 4:03But Dishon Watson answered by driving the offense
- 4:06into range, and Andre Smate drilled a 56 -yard
- 4:10field goal with 10 seconds left. It was the longest
- 4:14field goal of his career, kicked through a swirling,
- 4:18lakery wind that had given both kickers trouble
- 4:20all night. Aaron Rodgers' last throw, a deep
- 4:24heave trying to set up one more play, was intercepted,
- 4:28and Cleveland ran out the clock. It's the third
- 4:31straight week Watson has delivered in winning
- 4:34time. The Browns improved to 3 -1 and take sole
- 4:38possession of first place in the AFC North, while
- 4:42the Steelers fall to 2 -2 in a game that was
- 4:45theirs until the fourth quarter slipped away.
- 4:49Elsewhere, wild card play got underway. Austin
- 4:53Riley's eighth inning, 3 -run homer lifted Atlanta
- 4:57past Philadelphia 5 -3. Chicago's White Sox beat
- 5:02Houston 6 -3. The Yankees routed Boston 9 -0
- 5:07behind 6, and a third scoreless innings from
- 5:10Kam Schlittler. San Diego shut out the Cubs 8
- 5:14-0 behind 7 scoreless innings from Michael King,
- 5:18and home runs from Tatis, Machado, and Bogarts.
- 5:24In local sports, the Bruins are in Winnipeg tonight
- 5:28for the Jets home opener. Connor Helbig is serving
- 5:33a trade request suspension, so backup Stuart
- 5:36Skinner starts against a Bruins team that has
- 5:39outscored Winnipeg 6 -0 in each of the last two
- 5:43meetings, with Jeremy Swamen playing like the
- 5:46league's best goalie early on. Charlie McAvoy's
- 5:50suspension runs through October 13th, but Boston
- 5:54did lock up forward Reichel with a one -year
- 5:57extension. On the gridiron, the Patriots added
- 6:01Drake May to the injury report with a shoulder
- 6:03issue, but he practiced fully and starts Sunday
- 6:06against Buffalo, with Gonzalez, Barmore, Gilliam,
- 6:11and Moses all banged up, too. New England sits
- 6:15one and two, hosting a bill steam atop the AFC
- 6:19East. Boston College heads to Saint -Sainte -Eau
- 6:22tomorrow at noon as a big underdog, looking for
- 6:26payback after last year's 45 to 13 blowout. Quarterback
- 6:31Mason McKenzie has been turnover -prone, and
- 6:35the Eagles are battling illness and injuries,
- 6:38including linebacker Bodi Kahown, questionable
- 6:41after last month's scary hit. And the Red Sox's
- 6:46season is over, swept by the Yankees, and outscored
- 6:4918 to 4, with Ken Rosenthal saying the front
- 6:53office asked too much of Roman Anthony building
- 6:56the roster around him. In top news, Google has
- 7:02launched Project Suncatcher, a significant step
- 7:05towards artificial intelligence data centers
- 7:07in space. The company has sent a refrigerator
- 7:11-sized satellite into orbit aiming to explore
- 7:14solar -powered AI data centers. This satellite
- 7:18features specialty chips known as tensor processing
- 7:21units designed for machine learning. These chips
- 7:25will run a version of the company's Gemma AI
- 7:27model for brief intervals due to heat management
- 7:30constraints. The mission will test how the chips
- 7:33endure the challenges of spaceflight. Pucull's
- 7:37CDO anticipates capital expenditures for AI services
- 7:41to reach between $180 billion and $190 billion
- 7:47this year. In business news, trading volumes
- 7:52for certain products on prediction market platforms
- 7:55Kalshi and PolyMarket are raising questions from
- 7:58some industry observers who fear the numbers
- 8:01may be inflated. Observers have flagged a quirk
- 8:04on PolyMarket's international exchange, where
- 8:07markets with lower odds see greater activity.
- 8:11Meanwhile, unusual trading behavior on Kalshi's
- 8:14Ether contract has emerged, with specific trades
- 8:17making up a large share of transactions. Concerns
- 8:21over inflated volumes or wash trading persist.
- 8:24but both companies deny any misconduct. Experts
- 8:29suggest that the discrepancies warrant scrutiny,
- 8:31especially as both companies eye public market
- 8:34listings. In crypto movement, Bitcoin is up 1
- 8:39% for the week to about $85 ,000. Ethereum is
- 8:44up 1 .5 % to about $3 ,000. And XRP is down 1
- 8:50% to $1 .50. Moving on to a more local vibe.

- 9:42Let's talk tech. Fervo Energy announced Thursday
- 9:46morning that it has started selling electricity
- 9:48from its Cape Station power plant to the grid
- 9:51on September 30th, one day ahead of schedule.
- 9:55This milestone makes Fervo the first enhanced
- 9:58geothermal company to reach this key commercial
- 10:01achievement. The power plant synchronized with
- 10:03the grid about a week ago, bringing online the
- 10:06first third of what will soon be a 100 megawatt
- 10:09power plant. Fervo CEO Tim Latimer stated that
- 10:13no team has ever built a project like this anywhere
- 10:16in the world, and they did it ahead of schedule.
- 10:20From groundbreaking to commercial operations,
- 10:23The first block at Cape Station took 23 months
- 10:26to complete. Fervo aims to complete future blocks
- 10:29in as little as 18 months. And in entertainment
- 10:36news, John Bernthal's mega -hit crime thriller
- 10:40has officially received a spiritual follow -up.
- 10:44It's been 10 months since Netflix released the
- 10:46series His and Hers, which became one of its
- 10:49most watched shows ever, drawing 104 million
- 10:53views globally. Created by William Old Droid,
- 10:56the six -episode thriller adapts Alice Feeney's
- 10:59novel and stars John Bernthal and Tessa Thompson.
- 11:03The team is collaborating again on a new adaptation
- 11:06based on Feeney's upcoming book, Twist, set to
- 11:10publish in February 2027. Unlike his and hers,
- 11:15Twist offers a twistier narrative about love,
- 11:18murder, and secrets. Well, all righty, folks.
- 11:22It's time for the quote of the day. And today,
- 11:27our quote comes from the American author and
- 11:29motivational speaker, Leo Bascaglia. And he said,
