- 0:00Speaker 1: On the Bechdelcast. The questions asked if movies have women
- 0:04Speaker 1: and are all their discussions just boyfriends and husbands or
- 0:08Speaker 1: do they have individualism? It's the patriarchy, Zeff and best
- 0:12Speaker 1: start changing with the Bechdel Cast.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Hello, Bechdel Cast listeners, Kaitlin, it's me Jamie. So we're
- 0:22Speaker 2: taking a week off from our normal episode this week,
- 0:26Speaker 2: but we wanted to check in and do a few things.
- 0:29Speaker 2: First and foremost, we're gonna plug our little tour coming
- 0:32Speaker 2: up in January, and then we're also gonna do just
- 0:35Speaker 2: sort of like a year in review some movies we've
- 0:38Speaker 2: seen this year that we really enjoyed, some stuff we're
- 0:41Speaker 2: looking forward to in the coming year, you know, soliciting
- 0:45Speaker 2: requests from listeners, episodes we haven't done in movies you
- 0:50Speaker 2: want to hear us cover, you know, stuff like that.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Okause, here's a little peak behind the curtain. We are
- 0:56Speaker 3: technically supposed to only make fifty episodes a year, but
- 1:00Speaker 3: we just simply really enjoyed making this show. So technically
- 1:04Speaker 3: this is our week off, but we also still wanted
- 1:06Speaker 3: to give you a little something to munch on, a
- 1:09Speaker 3: little holiday snack.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Oh my goodness. So true, so true. Yeah, so starting
- 1:15Speaker 2: with our tour plug Yes, we have shows in January
- 1:19Speaker 2: in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Portland, and we're doing
- 1:24Speaker 2: something very fun. I think we're doing a combo of
- 1:28Speaker 2: a Shrek tannic Us tour as well as on January
- 1:33Speaker 2: nineteenth in Los Angeles, this show is also being live
- 1:36Speaker 2: streamed and it is a Bechdel Cast celebration Jamie, tell
- 1:41Speaker 2: them what it is.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm so excited for this. We have never really
- 1:45Speaker 3: gotten a chance to celebrate the show. I feel like
- 1:49Speaker 3: every time we've been about to do it, something happens
- 1:52Speaker 3: and we can't do it, such as a deadly pandemic
- 1:55Speaker 3: such as I think like a theater closure or something
- 1:58Speaker 3: like that. We wanted to to just put on a
- 2:00Speaker 3: show about the show and have all our favorite guests
- 2:03Speaker 3: and celebrate our fans and yeah, just have like a big,
- 2:06Speaker 3: fun beckda Le variety show for years. And so we're
- 2:11Speaker 3: taking the opportunity to do that at Dynasty Typewriter, where
- 2:14Speaker 3: we love Dynasty Typewriter, and it's a great chance for
- 2:19Speaker 3: you guys if you are not in Los Angeles to
- 2:22Speaker 3: watch the show as well. We want everyone to feel
- 2:25Speaker 3: welcome and to feel a part of it because we
- 2:28Speaker 3: love making the show and we want to celebrate the
- 2:32Speaker 3: show and ourselves and you guys, everybody. My mom's gonna
- 2:36Speaker 3: be there. My mom's gonna be there.
- 2:39Speaker 2: It's gonna be so much fun. I can't wait.
- 2:41Speaker 3: She's gonna act up. I can feel it so And
- 2:44Speaker 3: we will be announcing guests for that soon. But get
- 2:47Speaker 3: your ticket. All right, you're gonna be You're gonna be happy.
- 2:49Speaker 3: You're gonna like the way it looks, I guarantee it.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Oh oh, we're that come. It's like a men's wear
- 2:54Speaker 3: our house, not very bundle class.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing. It's gonna be sexy as hell.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I'm gonna wear something slutty for sure.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Hell yeah, me too.
- 3:03Speaker 3: I want to be perfectly clear.
- 3:04Speaker 2: My titties might be out. I don't know.
- 3:08Speaker 3: My titties will probably be in, but you will be
- 3:10Speaker 3: able to see my nipples. That's more my speed. Oh okay, yeah,
- 3:14Speaker 3: I'm like sheer top fives. I don't have enough titties
- 3:17Speaker 3: to really spill out. That's okay.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Well, I mean, who knows how my titties out scenario
- 3:22Speaker 2: will manifest exactly. But you have to come to the
- 3:25Speaker 2: show to find out.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Yeah, Caitlin's boobs never disappoint Wow, this is and we're
- 3:31Speaker 3: objectifying each other. Okay. So the first show Bechtel Cast Celebration.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Livestream tickets available Los Angeles, titties.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Out January nineteenth, January.
- 3:43Speaker 3: That's what I meant to say.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Yeah, all equally important details. The second show on this
- 3:50Speaker 2: tour is in San Francisco as a part of Sketch Fest.
- 3:53Speaker 2: We love going to Sketch Fest. We go every year.
- 3:56Speaker 2: This is our like fifth or sixth time or so.
- 3:59Speaker 2: This show is January twenty third. This is a part
- 4:03Speaker 2: of our Shrektannic US tour. So famously we did the
- 4:07Speaker 2: Shrektannic UK and Ireland tour.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Which I was 'tabled to be at. So this will
- 4:12Speaker 3: be my first Shrektannic tour. I'm very excited.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I'm so excited for you, Jamie. It's a blast if
- 4:17Speaker 2: I do say so myself. And so this is part
- 4:20Speaker 2: of the Sharktannic tour in San Francisco. We are covering
- 4:23Speaker 2: Titanic and this is the only show that is not
- 4:25Speaker 2: being live streamed as a part of this tour. So
- 4:28Speaker 2: if you want to see us talk about Titanic, and believe.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Me, you do.
- 4:32Speaker 2: You have to come to San Francisco and be there
- 4:35Speaker 2: in person again. That shows January twenty third at Club Fugazi.
- 4:40Speaker 2: That's where we were last year. If you came to
- 4:42Speaker 2: our SF show last year. It's a beautiful space and
- 4:45Speaker 2: we're so excited to talk about Titanic. I don't think
- 4:48Speaker 2: we've ever actually mentioned Titanic on the show before, Jamie,
- 4:51Speaker 2: So this will kind of be a first.
- 4:53Speaker 3: No, as I'm saying, to be my first time seeing
- 4:55Speaker 3: it the same. I hope it's good.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I've heard good things.
- 4:58Speaker 3: I hope it has an age like Milk. And then
- 5:02Speaker 3: we're going to Portland for the Shrek portion of our
- 5:07Speaker 3: Shrek Tannic Tour Portland, Oregon, that is, and that will
- 5:12Speaker 3: be at our beloved Curious Comedy Theater and we will
- 5:16Speaker 3: be covering Shrek very likely some surprise guests there as well,
- 5:20Speaker 3: and that will be a live streamed show. So if
- 5:23Speaker 3: you want to be at the Shrek portion of the
- 5:25Speaker 3: Shrek Tannic Tour, you are more than welcome. And we've
- 5:29Speaker 3: got links to everything on our link tree.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Indeed, so the Portland shows January twenty sixth I can't
- 5:36Speaker 2: remember if we mentioned that or not. It's the Shrek Show.
- 5:39Speaker 2: It's being live streamed, so just a note about the
- 5:42Speaker 2: live stream shows in LA and Portland. If you cannot
- 5:46Speaker 2: watch the show as it's being streamed live, you can
- 5:48Speaker 2: still buy a live stream ticket and then you'll have
- 5:51Speaker 2: access to the stream for a week afterward, so you've
- 5:56Speaker 2: got plenty of time to check out the show on
- 6:01Speaker 2: the stream. So, like you said, Jamie, tickets are at
- 6:06Speaker 2: our link Tree, Link Tree slash backdal Cast, as well
- 6:09Speaker 2: as the description of this episode. So please please please
- 6:12Speaker 2: come to our tour. We'd love to see you. We
- 6:14Speaker 2: always do little meet and greets at our live shows.
- 6:17Speaker 2: We sell exclusive tour merch.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah it's fun.
- 6:20Speaker 2: It's so much fun. I can't wait. So, yeah, that's
- 6:23Speaker 2: the tour. Let's plug our Matreon, shall we as well?
- 6:27Speaker 3: Yes, I've really If you're not a member of our
- 6:31Speaker 3: Patreon aka Matreon, huge mistake. We've been like a big
- 6:35Speaker 3: fun year on the Matreon. This year. It's been one
- 6:39Speaker 3: of my favorite years on the Matreon because I feel
- 6:42Speaker 3: like it's been a good mix of crowd pleasing favorites,
- 6:46Speaker 3: movies that we just haven't covered for some reason that
- 6:49Speaker 3: everyone wants to hear about, and more priority on directors
- 6:53Speaker 3: who are not men, which has been I've had a
- 6:56Speaker 3: lot of fun with this year as well, So I
- 6:59Speaker 3: don't know, it's it's been a really fun blend this year.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Did we kick off twenty twenty four on the Matron
- 7:04Speaker 2: with the Pinocchio Wars or was that last year?
- 7:07Speaker 3: No? That was last year, But I still think that's
- 7:09Speaker 3: our best work today. I think if I had to
- 7:12Speaker 3: choose a favorite episode of really any that's so horrible,
- 7:17Speaker 3: but I loved the Pinocchio Wars. It was so much fun.
- 7:20Speaker 2: It was a blast.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Yeah, and this I think we had one hundred and
- 7:23Speaker 3: fifty episodes on the Matreon this year, which is wild
- 7:28Speaker 3: for sure. Yeah, we're having a blast over there and
- 7:30Speaker 3: we are trying to I mean again, we upped the
- 7:34Speaker 3: amount of community inclusion this year. So there's a lot
- 7:38Speaker 3: more polls. You will if you are a member of
- 7:40Speaker 3: the Matreon, you will have a say and what we cover,
- 7:43Speaker 3: and we almost always honor our word. Right now, as
- 7:47Speaker 3: we're recording this, there's drama. There's drama on the Matreon.
- 7:52Speaker 3: We are in a fifty to fifty deadlock of our
- 7:55Speaker 3: second December episode and very different movies. I'm thrilled it's
- 8:00Speaker 3: between the original Black Christmas, which celebrates I didn't even
- 8:03Speaker 3: realize celebrates his fiftieth anniversary this year. Yes, and a
- 8:08Speaker 3: movie that came out three seconds ago that's supposed to
- 8:10Speaker 3: be got awful called Our Little Secret, the latest Lindsay
- 8:13Speaker 3: Lohan effort on Netflix. Right there's about eight hundred votes
- 8:18Speaker 3: in right now, and it is literally fifty to fifty.
- 8:21Speaker 3: And to think you could be the tiebreaker if only
- 8:25Speaker 3: you remember the Matreon Yeah, so true. And this is
- 8:28Speaker 3: really obvious. I know we've said it a million times,
- 8:30Speaker 3: but if you want to directly support the show, that
- 8:33Speaker 3: is the best way, the best way, and it's kind
- 8:36Speaker 3: of the best bang for your buck as well, because it's,
- 8:38Speaker 3: you know, five bucks a month and you get two
- 8:39Speaker 3: bonus episodes plus one hundred and fifty.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Other episodes, including the Pinocchio Wars.
- 8:44Speaker 3: I was about to say, especially the Pinocchio Wars, our
- 8:48Speaker 3: best episode. It's pretty mean of us to have our
- 8:51Speaker 3: best episode behind a paywall.
- 8:53Speaker 2: But that's capitalism in a society.
- 8:56Speaker 3: We live in a society. I don't know what to
- 8:58Speaker 3: tell you.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Yeah, some possible themes, Oh, yes. Do you have some pitches, Well,
- 9:02Speaker 2: there's some ones that we've kind of teased or kind
- 9:06Speaker 2: of joked about doing, but I think we actually should
- 9:08Speaker 2: do them. And then I have a few pitches as well.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Oh okay, so we I think very recently we're just
- 9:14Speaker 2: talking about doing Rodent Tober, in which we.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Will oh yes, Mike's Mike inspired.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Theme, Yes, ratituy, and then something else, some other rodent movie.
- 9:26Speaker 3: We could do flush the way we could do I
- 9:27Speaker 3: think we should do Alvin and the Chipmunks. No, Alvin
- 9:30Speaker 3: and the Chipmunks too, because that has the chip Pets.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Wow, feminism.
- 9:36Speaker 3: The chip Pets are feminist cannon, in my opinion, incredible.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Another one we teased was Insect Tober, in which we
- 9:46Speaker 2: would cover b movie and The Fly.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Our feminist podcast. We really love the Matron is fun,
- 9:55Speaker 3: kay I do? I God, I really want to watch
- 9:58Speaker 3: The Fly again. I don't know why I was so
- 10:01Speaker 3: serious when I said that, but I really do.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Well, Well, you're gonna it. Like came in number two
- 10:05Speaker 2: in a poll we did recently, and it seemed like
- 10:07Speaker 2: enough people were interested, So I think we should do it.
- 10:09Speaker 3: I was going to pitch that as a potential month
- 10:13Speaker 3: is movies that have almost won previous May tramples, because
- 10:17Speaker 3: I feel like there's a few movies I'm trying to
- 10:18Speaker 3: pull an example, but like, I feel like there's a
- 10:21Speaker 3: few that have we've almost covered like multiple times over
- 10:25Speaker 3: the last decade, and it's just like, well, I guess
- 10:28Speaker 3: we'll never know if in Brus's feminist or whatever.
- 10:34Speaker 2: So we've got rodent Tober, Insectober, a few other animal
- 10:38Speaker 2: themed ones. I don't know why, but they're just they're
- 10:40Speaker 2: such fun movies. Because you've got Dog December, I would
- 10:44Speaker 2: like to pitch Airbud and maybe like Beethoven or something
- 10:49Speaker 2: or something like that. I would like to pitch Snake September,
- 10:53Speaker 2: in which we were all animals, and then there's another
- 10:56Speaker 2: one too, but it's look, animals are an important part.
- 11:00Speaker 3: No I know, I show up empty handed. I show
- 11:03Speaker 3: up empty handed with pitches and then I started yelling
- 11:05Speaker 3: at you. Yeah, it's just interesting, it is.
- 11:08Speaker 2: But Snakes September would be snakes on a plane and anaconda.
- 11:13Speaker 2: I think it's important that we discussed those. And then
- 11:15Speaker 2: I'm still gunning for Mask March, in which we would
- 11:18Speaker 2: cover Jim Carrey's The Mask as well as the Mask
- 11:22Speaker 2: of Zoro. I think, oh wow, I used it.
- 11:26Speaker 3: You know what's really funny to me, yeah, is that
- 11:31Speaker 3: I watched the Mask of Zero in eighth grade history.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I'm like, what, That's probably not historically accurate.
- 11:40Speaker 3: It was just it just made me laugh. For the
- 11:43Speaker 3: love of God. Yes, I have a lot of Yeah,
- 11:47Speaker 3: I have a lot of uh proposals. I'm trying to
- 11:50Speaker 3: pull them. I wanted to do a Corely month on
- 11:53Speaker 3: the Matrear where we covered both the substance and revenge.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Oh yes, French Diva month, really yeah? Or we could
- 11:59Speaker 3: do French Deva Month and do the substance and anatomy.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Of a fall.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Oh right, the French gals are having a big moment.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I also, I don't know how fun this would be,
- 12:09Speaker 3: but so stay with me. But I would really be
- 12:14Speaker 3: curious to do a post me to Autur month. That's
- 12:21Speaker 3: a clunky name, and I've brought it up a lot
- 12:23Speaker 3: of how there was like a whole slate of male
- 12:27Speaker 3: auteurs attempting to make a feminist movie and I think
- 12:31Speaker 3: they've all been forgotten. I'm thinking about what was that
- 12:35Speaker 3: movie about, Like Megan Kelly.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Oh bombs?
- 12:39Speaker 3: Yeah, like that sort of genre of movie where it's
- 12:42Speaker 3: like man trying to be ally failing and yet winning
- 12:47Speaker 3: an award for it. That's what I would call the month.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, yes, Alex Garland's Men.
- 12:54Speaker 3: I didn't see that. I know you didn't.
- 12:56Speaker 2: No, I didn't see that. I would never watch.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Oh okay, I just dive. I imagine that that is
- 13:02Speaker 3: a title that has to be screamed. Man.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like his wife man.
- 13:10Speaker 3: I mean, there's so many options, and then there's also
- 13:13Speaker 3: I mean, on the main feed, we want to cover
- 13:16Speaker 3: or continue to cover, really a wider slate of movies.
- 13:20Speaker 3: I would love to cover more movies from trans directors
- 13:24Speaker 3: in the coming years. We have in the works some
- 13:27Speaker 3: episodes covering Palestinian films, and if you have any recommendations
- 13:31Speaker 3: for guests for those episodes, we definitely want to hear.
- 13:34Speaker 3: I would. I just I'm excited for the coming year
- 13:38Speaker 3: because I don't know you would think after after eight
- 13:40Speaker 3: years that we would not still have so many movies
- 13:44Speaker 3: to cover, but we simply do.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I also also on.
- 13:47Speaker 3: The Matreon, I would love to I mean it would
- 13:50Speaker 3: be a little heavy, but I would love to have
- 13:52Speaker 3: like a women's mental health kind of theme.
- 13:56Speaker 2: This is a theme we pitched years ago.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Was it? It was a girl inter and maybe like
- 14:01Speaker 3: a woman under the influence something like that. Like I
- 14:05Speaker 3: there's nothing but options, but I would love to do. Yeah,
- 14:09Speaker 3: like a focus on and hopefully movies from different eras too.
- 14:13Speaker 3: They don't have to be good, they just have to
- 14:15Speaker 3: be influential, you know the rules of the show.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Yeah, so many good themes, listeners. If you
- 14:23Speaker 2: have any Matreon themes you want to pitch, or just
- 14:27Speaker 2: regular main feed episodes that you'd like to hear us cover,
- 14:32Speaker 2: please let us know. We have a request form that
- 14:36Speaker 2: you can fill out. It's on our link tree and
- 14:40Speaker 2: so you can submit requests. There a lot of people
- 14:43Speaker 2: like dm us on Instagram. You know, whatever way you
- 14:46Speaker 2: want to tell us, let us know. And Jamie, you
- 14:51Speaker 2: and I we both went to the movies this.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Year, actually we both did it quite a bit, quite
- 14:57Speaker 3: a bit.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Did you have any favorite movies that either you I
- 15:00Speaker 2: saw from twenty twenty four or that you just happened
- 15:02Speaker 2: to see for the first time in twenty twenty four.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Doesn't need to be a new release from this year.
- 15:09Speaker 3: There are there are a bunch of movies that I
- 15:11Speaker 3: saw for the first time this year. Many of them
- 15:13Speaker 3: were for this show, as is always true. I'm gonna
- 15:16Speaker 3: try to think of movies I didn't watch for the
- 15:19Speaker 3: show specifically. I mean I, as loyal listeners will know,
- 15:24Speaker 3: I was with my dad a lot this year before
- 15:26Speaker 3: he passed, and we watched a bunch of movies together,
- 15:28Speaker 3: and that was like so many really nice memories. So
- 15:32Speaker 3: not first watches, but like really nice final watches of
- 15:37Speaker 3: some of me and my dad's favorite movies together. So
- 15:39Speaker 3: Pee Wee's big adventure was a big one. He watched
- 15:44Speaker 3: a School of Rock with me. I would not say
- 15:46Speaker 3: that's one of his favorites, but one of your favorites.
- 15:48Speaker 3: It is my very favorite. We watched The Wizard of Oz.
- 15:53Speaker 3: We watched, and then just like a bunch of like
- 15:56Speaker 3: old we watched Monty Python, Holy Grail, like nice, just
- 15:59Speaker 3: dad core favorites. And then I watched a few movies
- 16:03Speaker 3: for the first time with him. A little earlier in
- 16:05Speaker 3: the year. I saw The Original Manchurian Candidate, which was
- 16:09Speaker 3: actually very good.
- 16:10Speaker 2: It is very good.
- 16:11Speaker 3: The Long Goodbye, which I is one of those movies
- 16:13Speaker 3: and I'm like, I know it's good. But I don't
- 16:15Speaker 3: really want to see it again. We watched a documentary
- 16:18Speaker 3: about Paul Robison, which was really fascinating. My dad's a
- 16:21Speaker 3: big documentary guy, so yeah, that'll be my first chunk
- 16:25Speaker 3: of special movie experiences was watching stuff with him earlier
- 16:29Speaker 3: this year.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Lovely thank you for sharing that. Of course. I, on
- 16:34Speaker 2: the other hand, just went to AMC theaters by myself
- 16:38Speaker 2: all the time.
- 16:39Speaker 3: I mean, I can't tell any of that too, for sure.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Go to that place.
- 16:43Speaker 2: We come to this place for magic. We come to
- 16:45Speaker 2: this place to laugh, to cry, to care, of course,
- 16:48Speaker 2: and the movies that I watched at that place were,
- 16:51Speaker 2: for example, some of my favorites. The Substance, which we already.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Met, absolutely one of my we Oh god, I love
- 16:57Speaker 3: what we emphatically agree on and it's so good.
- 17:01Speaker 2: We will cover it sometime soon for the listeners who
- 17:06Speaker 2: want to hear us cover and I know we've gotten
- 17:08Speaker 2: many requests already.
- 17:09Speaker 3: I saw The TV Glow was another that I really
- 17:12Speaker 3: enjoyed in theaters this year.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I lo Ke loved the movie Heretic.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I still haven't seen it.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I don't know if it's good or not, but I
- 17:24Speaker 2: loved watching Hugh Grant be basically the same villain character
- 17:29Speaker 2: he is in Paddington II.
- 17:31Speaker 3: But this time he's Mormon.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Question Mark, No, he's not Mormon. He well, you know,
- 17:36Speaker 2: I'm not gonna get but he's critical of organized religion.
- 17:41Speaker 2: We'll say that.
- 17:42Speaker 3: What a diva. Yeah. I also loved Oh. This was
- 17:47Speaker 3: an under the radar movie that I hosted a Q
- 17:50Speaker 3: and A for, and I thought it was just like
- 17:52Speaker 3: so so good. Would hugely recommend for any body horror fans.
- 17:57Speaker 3: If you enjoyed The Substance, if you enjoyed Night Bitch,
- 17:59Speaker 3: you will enjoy Booger by Mary Dotterman, about a woman
- 18:03Speaker 3: who is slowly turning in to her recently deceased friend's cat.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Is awesome. She's a first time director.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Does she grow extra nipples? I CAUs she starts oil it?
- 18:16Speaker 3: Okay, but I will say it's like, I don't know,
- 18:18Speaker 3: I feel like on the body horror spectrum, it is
- 18:21Speaker 3: like between The Substance and Night Bitch. Okay, So it's
- 18:26Speaker 3: a good it's a good feeling. I highly recommend it. Yeah,
- 18:31Speaker 3: that was another fun one from this year. Very cool.
- 18:33Speaker 2: I'll just rattle off a few of my other favorites
- 18:35Speaker 2: from twenty twenty four. I really enjoyed Thelma.
- 18:41Speaker 3: I still need to see it.
- 18:42Speaker 2: It's so fun. It's very funny. I really liked Addie Kneecap.
- 18:48Speaker 2: I did enjoy Mowana too. The songs didn't quite slap
- 18:51Speaker 2: as much as the first one, but I had a
- 18:53Speaker 2: good time. I enjoyed the movie Wicked Little Letters.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Oh. I enjoyed the movie Wicked. Oh well, I enjoyed
- 19:01Speaker 3: that too, Wicked, Wicked fun. It's the it's that it
- 19:06Speaker 3: looks bad, but it sounds amazing. I love it.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Also, this obviously did not come out in twenty twenty four,
- 19:14Speaker 2: but I saw and I already talked about this on
- 19:17Speaker 2: a recent episode. But I saw Gremlins two for the
- 19:19Speaker 2: first time, and wow, is it my new favorite movie.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I had a blast.
- 19:24Speaker 3: I can't we're going to cover that for their birthday. Yeah. Probably.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I had not seen or heard of that was I
- 19:33Speaker 3: don't know. Sometimes those Delta flights, they're like, Jamie heard
- 19:38Speaker 3: of this one, haven't. But it's a movie that came
- 19:40Speaker 3: out in twenty twenty three. I don't know if it
- 19:42Speaker 3: was released in the US ever in a formal way.
- 19:46Speaker 3: I hadn't heard of it. But it's called Monster. It
- 19:49Speaker 3: is a Japanese film. It's like a queer coming of
- 19:54Speaker 3: age psychological like drama. It's hard to explain, okay, but
- 19:59Speaker 3: I thought it was really, really good. I've seen it
- 20:02Speaker 3: twice now. Because you know when you see a movie
- 20:03Speaker 3: on a plane and you're crying and you're like, was
- 20:06Speaker 3: it the plane or the movie? It's in fact the movie.
- 20:09Speaker 3: I would really recommend it. I didn't hear very much
- 20:12Speaker 3: about it in the US, but it seems like it
- 20:15Speaker 3: did pretty well in Japan. And yeah, it's a really
- 20:20Speaker 3: sweet and sad story, so I would recommend it lovely.
- 20:26Speaker 2: There's some movies also that come out in twenty twenty
- 20:29Speaker 2: five that I'm very much looking forward to, natally Paddington
- 20:36Speaker 2: in Peru, which was supposed to be released in the
- 20:41Speaker 2: US back in November, that got pushed to January. Now
- 20:45Speaker 2: it's pushed to February fourteenth, which is like, why is
- 20:48Speaker 2: that coming out on Valentine's Day? And that's a weird choice.
- 20:52Speaker 2: I don't know if it's good or not, and please
- 20:55Speaker 2: don't tell me. For those of you who might have
- 20:57Speaker 2: already seen the movie, because it was released in the
- 20:59Speaker 2: UK in November already, Oh my gosh. Yeah, So, I
- 21:03Speaker 2: don't know why the US release date is so far away.
- 21:07Speaker 3: I'm nervous.
- 21:08Speaker 2: I don't know if it's bad. Don't tell me. If
- 21:10Speaker 2: it's good, I guess tell me. I don't know. I
- 21:13Speaker 2: just I want to experience.
- 21:14Speaker 3: It for myseln't go too far.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Nervous, but I'll see it.
- 21:18Speaker 3: I'm excited for Wicked Part two obviously. Yes, other ones
- 21:22Speaker 3: Mickey seventeen. They found. I'm very that really. Estate also
- 21:27Speaker 3: keeps getting pushed back in a way. That's because I
- 21:29Speaker 3: think it's now coming out in April or something. I
- 21:32Speaker 3: don't know. They keep changing it.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Rude.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Yeah, we've got Megan two point zero.
- 21:37Speaker 3: I know we gotta go together. Yeah, Matugantu, Yes, with
- 21:42Speaker 3: Threegan two.
- 21:44Speaker 2: I'm excited for Love Hurt, which is that action movie
- 21:48Speaker 2: starring Kik Kwon.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Oh.
- 21:50Speaker 3: I haven't heard of it.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it's uh it looks fun based on the trailer.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Also fun based on the trailer. Is one of them
- 21:58Speaker 2: days that Kiki Homer and Sissa movie that comes out soon.
- 22:03Speaker 3: I didn't I'm seeing this for the first time. Del
- 22:06Speaker 3: Toro's making a Frankenstein movie. Yes, starring Oscar Isaac. Hello, Okay,
- 22:13Speaker 3: say no more, excuse me. Okay, I'm putting that on
- 22:14Speaker 3: my watch list. Thank you Letterboxed for that information. And
- 22:19Speaker 3: will I see Now You See Me three, which is
- 22:22Speaker 3: not called now You three Me? Yeah, I'll probably go
- 22:26Speaker 3: will you see it?
- 22:26Speaker 2: Okay? Well that brings me to a list I have
- 22:29Speaker 2: of unnecessary movies and sequels Now You three Me? I
- 22:34Speaker 2: did put now You three Me on there, along with
- 22:37Speaker 2: Zootopia two.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Oh my god, yeah, the Revenge of Coppaganda Animals.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Yes, speaking of which, the movie Den of Thieves is
- 22:48Speaker 2: getting a sequel and that comes out soon. For reasons unknown,
- 22:52Speaker 2: why would they make a sequel of that? Another unnecessary sequel?
- 22:58Speaker 2: Jurassic World reb Birth?
- 23:01Speaker 3: Does anyone even care about that anymore? I just like
- 23:03Speaker 3: they're determined to I. And if Freaky or Friday is
- 23:07Speaker 3: on this list, I'm going to cut my own head off.
- 23:09Speaker 3: I'm excited for Freaking Friday.
- 23:10Speaker 2: I'm excited for it.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, just letting you know.
- 23:15Speaker 2: We do have two snow White movies coming out, and
- 23:18Speaker 2: I was going to pitch the snow White Wars. But
- 23:21Speaker 2: also one of them has Zionist Galgado in it, so
- 23:24Speaker 2: I will not be watching that.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Watch it. I justugh, I that looks stinky, and I'm
- 23:30Speaker 3: I'm a Rachel Zegler fan. I just am like, oh god,
- 23:34Speaker 3: why it does not look good? Yeah, there's going to
- 23:37Speaker 3: be a this is sort of entry. Did you read
- 23:40Speaker 3: had a Gabbler in high school? No? I didn't. It's
- 23:44Speaker 3: a European like proto feminist play. Okay, Norwegian Norwegian by
- 23:50Speaker 3: Heinrich Ibsen. I had to read it in high school,
- 23:52Speaker 3: and I want to revisit it because I really liked it.
- 23:55Speaker 3: I feel like it was in my like my high
- 23:58Speaker 3: school English teacher was big time like we're gonna read
- 24:02Speaker 3: women nice. Yeah. So. But Nia DaCosta, who in the
- 24:08Speaker 3: past has I mean, she directed the Marvels, she directed
- 24:11Speaker 3: Candy Man. I'm really excited that she she's adapting had
- 24:16Speaker 3: a Gabbler starring Tessa Thompson, which I think sounds really good.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I'm excited to see her because I feel like she
- 24:23Speaker 3: has like low Keepen, like sabotaged with like franchise stuff,
- 24:29Speaker 3: and I'm excited to see her do obviously had a
- 24:31Speaker 3: Gabblers and adaptation, but it's I'm excited to see that.
- 24:34Speaker 2: I will definitely go see the letter Cook is there
- 24:37Speaker 2: anything else, Jamie, you'd like to share.
- 24:41Speaker 3: I'm gonna see Avatar three. That's why I like to
- 24:44Speaker 3: I'm gonna see it.
- 24:45Speaker 2: It does sort of go without saying our King James
- 24:48Speaker 2: Cameron three vutar precisely, I would like to personally plug.
- 24:58Speaker 2: I teach screenwriting classes, as you may or may not know,
- 25:02Speaker 2: with the master's degree that you may or may not
- 25:05Speaker 2: know that I have from Boston University in screenwriting that
- 25:10Speaker 2: I've of course never mentioned, but I do use it
- 25:12Speaker 2: to teach both an intro to screenwriting class, so that's
- 25:16Speaker 2: you know, suitable for beginners or someone who needs like
- 25:19Speaker 2: a refresher or any kind of introductory screenwriting class. And
- 25:23Speaker 2: then I also teach a workshopping class, which allows students
- 25:26Speaker 2: to bring in material that they have written or ideas
- 25:30Speaker 2: that they want to develop further, and you workshop that
- 25:34Speaker 2: with your peers and you get feedback from your classmates
- 25:39Speaker 2: and from me. So those are classes that I teach
- 25:42Speaker 2: and you can find more information about them on my website,
- 25:45Speaker 2: Caitlin Durante dot com slash classes. Wow, Jamie, do you
- 25:50Speaker 2: have anything you want to plug?
- 25:52Speaker 3: Yes, I have. I'm excited for this cover of year. Yeah,
- 25:55Speaker 3: I don't have a master's degree and I never will.
- 25:59Speaker 3: But well, I hate debt and you can just google things.
- 26:04Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 26:06Speaker 2: That's why you should take my classes instead of going
- 26:10Speaker 2: back it.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Save yourself six figures and take Caitlin's class.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Truly.
- 26:15Speaker 3: But yeah, this coming year, I've really been enjoying working
- 26:18Speaker 3: on sixteenth Minute. If you're listening to this when it
- 26:21Speaker 3: comes out. We just finished a three part series on
- 26:23Speaker 3: the Manisphere, which was really stressful to finish. But I
- 26:31Speaker 3: think if you're not familiar with that space, I would
- 26:35Speaker 3: recommend checking out this series. It's intended to sort of
- 26:37Speaker 3: be like an explainer of what this space is and
- 26:39Speaker 3: what we can kind of expect to see from it. Unfortunately,
- 26:43Speaker 3: in the coming year now that it has been very
- 26:46Speaker 3: much empowered by Trump, so we're working on that. Other
- 26:50Speaker 3: recent subjects I really enjoyed were The Wicked Witch of
- 26:55Speaker 3: the East bro Guy, if you have ever seen that clip.
- 26:59Speaker 3: I tracked him down and he's he's a weird guy.
- 27:04Speaker 3: We also did a series on Tessica Brown, the Gorilla
- 27:08Speaker 3: Glue Girl. We did William Hung, we did the Tumbler
- 27:10Speaker 3: Bone Witch, and we have Taizon Day coming up at
- 27:13Speaker 3: the beginning of the year. I also produce We the Unhoused,
- 27:17Speaker 3: which is a show very close to my heart by
- 27:20Speaker 3: my friend Theo Henderson, who is a formerly unhoused man
- 27:24Speaker 3: who is now an advocate for the unhoused. It's a
- 27:28Speaker 3: story by the unhoused for the unhoused, and we've been
- 27:32Speaker 3: covering a lot about the Supreme Court decision that happened
- 27:35Speaker 3: earlier this year, Grant's Pass, which essentially makes it illegal
- 27:40Speaker 3: to be unhoused at all. And so Theo has been
- 27:44Speaker 3: covering that really, really thoughtfully, and I would recommend checking
- 27:50Speaker 3: that show out. And also I will be on tour
- 27:55Speaker 3: to some extent this coming spring because the paperback of
- 27:59Speaker 3: my book Raw Dog is coming out.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:02Speaker 3: So I went to I think eight cities last year
- 28:05Speaker 3: when the hardcover came out, and I'm going to go
- 28:07Speaker 3: to I think five or six more that I didn't
- 28:09Speaker 3: go to last time. I may made to go to Seattle.
- 28:12Speaker 3: I may made to go to Philadelphia. I'm just if
- 28:14Speaker 3: there's a city that you think I should go to,
- 28:17Speaker 3: I would love to see you on my little spring tour.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, that's so exciting.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Yeah, and uh yeah those are Oh and I have
- 28:25Speaker 3: a special coming out next year called The Tiny Man
- 28:28Speaker 3: is Trying to Kill Me. I'll let you know more
- 28:30Speaker 3: when I know more. I think we should cover Leprechaun
- 28:33Speaker 3: to promote them. We should just find a tiny Man movie.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Have you ever seen Leprechaun? No, nor have I, but
- 28:43Speaker 2: I know enough about it that I think that would
- 28:45Speaker 2: be a hilarious choice.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Supposed to be gnarly right, yes, yeah.
- 28:49Speaker 2: There's also some sequels that are very wild as well.
- 28:52Speaker 3: From what I understand, that's like the Jennifer Aniston's first
- 28:55Speaker 3: movie was like Leprechaun too, right, Yes.
- 28:57Speaker 2: I think so yeah wild? So oh yeah, we'll do
- 29:01Speaker 2: Leprechaun to promote your special Yeah. I can't wait for
- 29:05Speaker 2: all of that. Also, Santa University.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Santa Universities, it will be out by the time you
- 29:11Speaker 3: hear this, I believe.
- 29:12Speaker 2: No, it won't, No, it won't.
- 29:14Speaker 3: It'll be out on Christmas Eve.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Okay, so you've got that to look forward to.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Listeners, Santa University eight if you can believe it.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Wowie wow. I will be reprising my role as Sully,
- 29:27Speaker 2: the Boston local who is the manager of the store Lids.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Best character ever written, best character ever performed by me.
- 29:39Speaker 3: Oh I've got E got for you.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Thank you, Yes, thank you so much. So yeah, there
- 29:45Speaker 2: you have it. Listeners, thank you so much for feedback
- 29:48Speaker 2: and suggestions and recommendations and for just being here with us.
- 29:56Speaker 2: We love you, We love you so much. We're excited
- 29:58Speaker 2: to be on tour. We're excited to see hey everybody, and.
- 30:02Speaker 3: We're gonna watch rattaitoeing on Christmas together. Sorry.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Yeah, if you don't know what that is, look it
- 30:07Speaker 2: up and then grow up. You can thank us later.
