Transcript
- 0:00what's up everybody welcome to fanatically speaking
- 0:02i'm kent i'm log off i'm the log off legend and
- 0:05uh we're here to say everything that every fan
- 0:07is thinking but louder and probably a little
- 0:09crazier get ready this is fanatically speaking
- 0:12with kent and log off you know what's funny like
- 0:15i don't hate i don't i'm not a social media hater
- 0:18i'm a social media Hater. You know what I mean?
- 0:23I don't want people to think that I get on the
- 0:26internet and start hating people on social media.
- 0:27That's not what I do. The first half was absolutely
- 0:31horrible. You know, just inept offense, inept
- 0:35defense, special teams, you name it. I'm going
- 0:39to turn into Oprah. Why were you so angry? He
- 0:44sucks this season. This game, whatever, whatever's
- 0:47going on, right? And then in the very next pitch,
- 0:49guess what they did? They double Homer. And he's
- 0:52like, told you that. Why are you always knocking
- 0:54down people? Listen, you got the highs and the
- 0:57lows. Yeah, so I knew that. You need the highs
- 0:59and the lows. So I do that, yeah. I'm trying
- 1:03to be the voice of reason here. I am what I am.
- 1:20episode of Fanatically Speaking. I'm Kent, the
- 1:23co -host and promoter. I am Log Off, the Log
- 1:26Off legend, hater of social media. I am the co
- 1:28-host and producer of the show. And this episode
- 1:31is going to be a little different than something
- 1:32we've ever done. We've kind of keyed in on three
- 1:36major sports personalities who've had some positions
- 1:39and some things that they've said publicly that
- 1:41we just want to take an issue with. Um, so the
- 1:44first one we're going to, we're going to come
- 1:46in hot right out of the gate. We've got a key
- 1:48in on one, Mr. Stephen A Smith. Now, uh, Stephen
- 1:50A Smith was on an episode of First Take, um,
- 1:54this past week and he was speaking specifically
- 1:57on the NBA gambling probe that we actually covered
- 2:01in our bonus episode that we released. But the
- 2:06Stephen A comments, um, kind of stood out to
- 2:08both myself and Kent and just to lay the groundwork
- 2:11on this. We're not political people. We don't
- 2:14really, I don't look at things through a political
- 2:16spectrum. And honestly, I try to avoid a lot
- 2:18of the political news and I have for the last
- 2:21decade. So if you're new to avoid the political
- 2:23news, just understand you're hopping on my train.
- 2:26I've been doing that. But, but the Stephen A
- 2:29thing, and I wanted to, to kind of key in on
- 2:31this specifically, he was speaking about the
- 2:34gambling probe. And the one thing that he said
- 2:37was he mentioned that the president He alluded
- 2:40that the president was involved in the probe
- 2:43itself because of some of the NBA protests that
- 2:47had taken place in years and just kind of some
- 2:49of the way that the league has kind of shifted
- 2:51themselves away from him and his presidency.
- 2:53And then he also alluded to that because of the
- 2:57same thing took place in the WNBA that he's quote,
- 3:01coming for them as well. I just threw all that
- 3:05out there. I just kind of wanted to set the table
- 3:07for us, Kent, but I'm curious to hear your thoughts
- 3:10on it. Yeah, so it was surprising to hear him
- 3:16say that one. There's a few reasons. One, it's
- 3:19it's a it was on first take. And if you don't
- 3:22know, Stephen A. Smith has his own political
- 3:24show, straight shooter, Stephen A. Smith, where
- 3:27he talked politics because because he really
- 3:29said it with no. I don't know proof is the right
- 3:36word, right? So, you know, for him to just flat
- 3:39out say Trump was kind of weird to allude to
- 3:43that. And then also, as you said, then to just
- 3:46blatantly allude that he's going to go after
- 3:48the WNBA. I mean, he literally told Monica McNutt,
- 3:51watch out, the WNBA might be next. And based
- 3:55off of absolutely nothing except. I think so.
- 3:59I think this is going to happen. Therefore, I'm
- 4:04going to say it on one of the more prominent
- 4:06sports shows in history. I'm just going to say
- 4:09these types of things. I'm going to let you finish.
- 4:15We spoke about this briefly before we started
- 4:17recording. I feel like he took something, like
- 4:22he married the two worlds together. We know that
- 4:26there's been rumblers that Stephen A. Smith has
- 4:28some political aspirations. How seriously you
- 4:31want to take those things, that's up for you
- 4:33to decide personally. But for you to marry this
- 4:36to, I mean, if we think about it, you know, probably
- 4:40one of the bigger sports stories of the year
- 4:43when it comes to the NBA gambling probe. And
- 4:47then you introduce the president's name into
- 4:51the discussion when no one was mentioning it.
- 4:54It just kind of felt like he just kind of wanted
- 4:57to seize on that moment and use it as an opportunity
- 5:01to kind of marry the two things together. When,
- 5:03like you said, there was no real connection to
- 5:08the two. He introduced it. And of course, you
- 5:11can make your cases for it in one way or the
- 5:13other. But it just kind of seemed like a waste
- 5:15of energy, like a waste of effort in a lot of
- 5:18ways. Yeah, it was not only a bad, I think a
- 5:21bad take. It was just irresponsible of him. We
- 5:26talk about journalism and things like that. And
- 5:29I'm not saying he's not a good journalist. I'm
- 5:31just saying that sometimes the media had talking
- 5:34heads on TV sometimes like to say stuff like
- 5:37we talk. They'd like to say stuff to get. the
- 5:39clicks, the likes. To get the buzz going. To
- 5:41get the buzz going. It's again, you gotta be
- 5:44responsible. You can't just say stuff. Again,
- 5:46you wanna say that on your private show or your
- 5:49political show, cool. But again, on the network,
- 5:53that's where we get a little gray area. Like
- 5:54we talk about Ryan Clark. You gotta remember,
- 5:56you're on ESPN. You're not on the Pivot podcast.
- 6:00So have your podcast, do what you do. You might
- 6:03get flack for that, but at least that's your
- 6:04podcast. ESPN, national television. When you
- 6:08say things like this, you're triggering things,
- 6:11right? And again, this story, before Stephen
- 6:14A said this, I don't think that anyone was linking
- 6:18Trump to this scandal. It was just mafia, NBA.
- 6:25Now the feds are involved. Well, yes. And again,
- 6:28and then like you said, it just made it even
- 6:29worse to say that he's that Trump himself, he's
- 6:33coming after the WNBA next. Well, and not only
- 6:37that, it's also he he introduced it. And the
- 6:44question is, why would you introduce why would
- 6:48you go out of your way to mention the WNBA? And
- 6:51it's like, oh, well, I'm just warning you guys.
- 6:53Well, first off, if you did. OK. I'm gonna backtrack
- 6:56a little bit. I'm gonna take a step back. I'm
- 6:58gonna calm down just a little bit, lower my blood
- 7:00pressure. If you did something wrong, if you
- 7:05did something illegal and you get charged for
- 7:09it, that's on you. So if there's a WNBA coach,
- 7:13if there's a WNBA player, if there's some front
- 7:15office official, if there's some referee, if
- 7:18there's a gambling scandal that's taking place
- 7:20there and these people actually get caught, They
- 7:23got exactly what they deserves. I don't give
- 7:26a shit what happens in that regard. But it's
- 7:30almost as if he's insinuating that he's aware
- 7:33of these types of things happening, but we've
- 7:36never heard of them. Have you ever heard of a
- 7:38WNBA scandal? That is 10 % of what the magnitude
- 7:44of what the NBA, you know, just the scandal that
- 7:47just came out about them. Is there a connection
- 7:49that I'm missing? Is there something that I've
- 7:50just haven't heard? I don't know of a scandal
- 7:53in the WNBA outside of the, they've just, they've
- 7:58just been trying to grow their league. So they're,
- 8:02you know, the only thing going on with them is,
- 8:04you know, they're underpaid. Underpaid, the Navisa
- 8:06Collier, you know, with the WNBA commissioner.
- 8:11I'll give you that. But that's within, that's
- 8:13normal sporting, you know, business. Yes, contractual
- 8:18collective bargaining. That's normal stuff. There's
- 8:21been no cheating scandals in their 25 year history
- 8:24-ish history. None that I'm aware of. But like
- 8:28you said, Stephen A put it out there. He put
- 8:30it out there as if there's something that we
- 8:32don't know that's coming. And it's like, if you
- 8:35know it, speak to it. Like you have a, you have
- 8:39that journalistic responsibility. You can't just
- 8:41throw these fish, you know, these, these fish
- 8:43on the, on the table and just say, all right,
- 8:45guys, now you clean this up, you gut it and scale
- 8:48it and cook it. It's like, you didn't, you just
- 8:50threw the fish in front of us. What else do you
- 8:52want us to do with it? So now if it happens,
- 8:54if there is a scandal, then they're going to,
- 8:56everybody's going to look and say, oh, well,
- 8:58Trump must have went after them, right? No, no
- 9:00matter what. And again, we don't carry the weight.
- 9:03We're just saying You know, Trump is the president
- 9:05right now. So, you know, it's Stephen, they mentioned
- 9:07it. So this is why we're saying this. It's it
- 9:10was just to me like it was making something out
- 9:13of nothing and adding a piece that wasn't added.
- 9:17And he should have been more focused on the scandal
- 9:20at hand and how it affects the league and things
- 9:24like that. I think there's a bigger issue than
- 9:26thinking that the president of the United States
- 9:27who. you know, if you do follow the news, I mean,
- 9:30he's got bigger issues and the feds combined
- 9:32with other things than probably going after the
- 9:36Portland Trailblazers head coach, Chauncey Billups,
- 9:40a random assistant coach in Damon Jones, former
- 9:44player, role player, and Terry Rozier. Those
- 9:47are not names. As I mentioned to you, if Trump
- 9:50was going after people, he would go after the
- 9:53people that actually spoke out against him. And
- 9:56it's not any of these guys so that's that's the
- 10:00part that also is the disconnect is I don't think
- 10:03yeah, this is not the the scandal or the players
- 10:06Involved that if if Trump was going to go after
- 10:10enemies or those who spoke out against them These
- 10:13were not the names on the list. Yeah He lost
- 10:17me there he lost me there. Well, yeah, and also
- 10:20it's um, and I and I love this I uh, you know,
- 10:23you have some people who may you know, call you
- 10:26names or insult you. And, and typically people
- 10:30lead with their strongest. And it's like, it
- 10:33is like, if this was the best you got, you know,
- 10:37and it was in a gambling ring that involved,
- 10:39you know, 30 other people allegedly, like, and
- 10:42some of those names, like, I mean, none of them
- 10:44ever even, you know, you know, ring a bell for
- 10:47me. So it's like, okay, so these are the strongest
- 10:48names you got. Okay, that just means that if
- 10:52there is something that takes place with another
- 10:54league that he wants to allege, chances are those
- 10:57names aren't going to be bigger either. No, you
- 11:00know, they're not going to be huge massive names.
- 11:02But no, I agree with your sentiment. He should
- 11:04be more responsible. I think he just wanted to
- 11:07be the first person to the party with the take.
- 11:09He just wanted to throw it out there. But it
- 11:12just seemed like he threw he threw an unnecessary
- 11:15log on the fire that did need to go there. And
- 11:20he say, oh, brace yourselves, it's coming. It's
- 11:23like, okay, well, what can anyone do? If a crime
- 11:27had been committed, it's already been committed.
- 11:30The only thing is that we don't know about it.
- 11:32But I guess we'll have to see. Time will tell.
- 11:34But no, I'm super disappointed from Stephen A.
- 11:37And it went viral as it should have. And I guess
- 11:41we'll see what comes of it from that. the ESPN
- 11:53front and media head saying things. We got to
- 11:58get into also Dan Orlovsky. Nice, super nice.
- 12:02You know, I like Dan Orlovsky. He breaks down
- 12:04film, all these things. But then again, he says
- 12:07stuff. He said stuff this past week that recently,
- 12:10you know, that and I know you give opinions on,
- 12:12you know, sometimes you give an opinion, which
- 12:15is not necessarily a lead or a story that you
- 12:18know of. And the thing I'm speaking of, at least
- 12:21with Orlovsky, and you may have something different,
- 12:24was him saying that A .J. Brown, wide receiver
- 12:26of the Philadelphia Eagles, prefers to be traded.
- 12:29And he's basing this off of just the news that's
- 12:32come out recently, the social media posts by
- 12:37A .J. Brown. I guess he's just watching them
- 12:40saying, oh, I can just tell. Yeah, so I'm gonna,
- 12:43so I'm actually gonna read it. Which is not,
- 12:45yeah, go ahead. Yeah. Yeah. So I've got his quote.
- 12:47So this is quote from, from Dan Arloski on where
- 12:50he speculated about the trade desires. His quote
- 12:53is this quote, I would disagree that he's trying
- 12:56to send a message of, I want the ball through
- 13:00to me more. I think the more time has gone on
- 13:03by the day, I think that there is a reality there
- 13:07that AJ Brown prefers to be traded. End quote.
- 13:11So it's, that's pretty strong for someone to
- 13:14just say, especially someone of Dan Arlovsky's
- 13:18magnitude. And listen, you know, he's spoken
- 13:21into a microphone forever. He'd done it far more
- 13:25recently than I have. So maybe this is something
- 13:28where it was maybe a slip of the tongue. I guess
- 13:29you're kind of saying to allude to the same thing
- 13:31that we said about Steve and Abe in the prior
- 13:33segment, that these are where people need to
- 13:35be more mindful of the verbiage that they're
- 13:38using. Yeah, you know, I get it. Like they're
- 13:42on TV. Again, they're trying to get these hot
- 13:45takes off But you can't just say stuff with I
- 13:49just say you have me can apparently but you know,
- 13:51it's just again it's irresponsible to just say
- 13:54things that you just think in your head or you're
- 13:58you're gathering yourself by what you're watching
- 14:00what you're seeing and again, it probably probably
- 14:03hits a little close to home because it's the
- 14:04Eagles and AJ Brown, but you know that they've
- 14:08spent a lot of time on it and Hopefully right.
- 14:13I mean there's been some obviously the passing
- 14:15game we talked about before and AJ Brown getting
- 14:17the ball and and things like He's a receiver.
- 14:21He's acting better than most receivers in the
- 14:23past have right? He's he's not doing sit -ups
- 14:25in his driveway yet So, you know, but but back
- 14:29to our Lofsky. It's it's again just throwing
- 14:32stuff out there Fire that is already kind of
- 14:39there in the media sense that the Eagles have
- 14:42to shut down all the time this this thing that
- 14:44they are going to trade AJ Brown that he's just
- 14:46so unhappy but for him to say that on top of
- 14:51it now it adds to people to say oh well oh he
- 14:53well Orlovsky said he prefers to be traded well
- 14:56did he say that though did Schefter tell Orlovsky
- 14:59well and and i think it's not i've always said
- 15:04it's not what you say it's how you say it I think
- 15:07there was a way for him to introduce this if
- 15:10he was to present it as a question or You know
- 15:14and and this is other thing like he like he's
- 15:16Dan Arlovsky like he's got connections He could
- 15:19have made some calls like you could have gotten
- 15:22an answer to this question as opposed to just
- 15:24throwing this out as As a reckless speculation
- 15:27that it is you just you're just saying this And
- 15:31listen man, it's there's so much going on in
- 15:34sports There's so much going on in the news cycles
- 15:36as a whole. You don't have to make shit up like
- 15:39this So it was just I think that's probably the
- 15:42thing that annoys me the most Not only that he
- 15:45said it and not only that it was reckless. It
- 15:47was unnecessary Like you introduced this into
- 15:50the conversation Now shows get to talk about
- 15:54that ongoing when you pull that out of your ass.
- 15:57It came out of nowhere And I think that's the
- 16:00part that that annoys me more than anything.
- 16:02Yes. Just it's like, come on, man. Like, you're
- 16:04better than that. And I like Arlovski, too. You
- 16:06know, and this has got nothing to do with them
- 16:08being an eagle like AJ Brown paying for the Eagles.
- 16:11It's just like, like, why would you bring this
- 16:12up and introduce it? Much like the subject of
- 16:15the previous segment. It's like, what the hell
- 16:17are you all doing? Be better than that. And then
- 16:20ESPN, you know, again, I'm seeing it. because
- 16:23I didn't watch the show that day but I'm either
- 16:25did I because it's clips because it's clips is
- 16:27circulated and ESPN is posting it and then you're
- 16:30seeing it on other uh outlets so it's like it
- 16:34went viral and so that part worked it's just
- 16:38but how much truth is to it you know correct
- 16:41and again and again we're not going to get into
- 16:44Ryan Clark but again he's on that set a lot with
- 16:46first take and with Arlovski and with the get
- 16:48up and You know, he's he's been known lately
- 16:51to make comments and then have to go apologize.
- 16:54So I don't know something in the water there
- 16:56at the network. Yeah, something going on up there
- 16:59in New York, man. You know, we'll have to see.
- 17:01But I I'm pretty I'm pretty sure there'll be
- 17:03some sort of retraction or clarification on this
- 17:07because it is something that kind of spread like
- 17:09wildfire with Dan Arlovski. And I think the other
- 17:12thing is this is something that's out of character
- 17:13for him. This isn't the type of person that he
- 17:16is. You know, I'm so I don't want to think he
- 17:20had ill intentions. I just think it was just
- 17:22a position. Yeah, I think it was just a position
- 17:24that he had. And, you know, hopefully he clears
- 17:29it up. Maybe he does know something. But to just
- 17:31say, you know, to allude that someone wants to
- 17:34be traded, you know, and to keep in mind, this
- 17:37is after A .J. Brown's coming off his best game
- 17:39of the year. Best game of the year, yeah. But
- 17:42it's another social media post by A .J. Brown.
- 17:45But but but but he's always done that he's done
- 17:48that for the last two and a half years This is
- 17:49what he does. So it just seems I don't know and
- 17:53that's another thing that kind of bothers me
- 17:55And I look I'm log off guys. I hate social media.
- 17:58Huh? I hate social media. It's like for to watch
- 18:02professional broadcasters To watch Mike Greenberg
- 18:06to watch Dan Arlovski to watch these polished
- 18:10professionals Go on TV and talk about things
- 18:13that guys posted on Instagram I got nothing else
- 18:16better to do. That's that's the world we live
- 18:18in though. Oh my God. That's the world that you
- 18:20guys live in. I'm outside smelling fresh air
- 18:24and watching leaves blow. That's what I do. Damn
- 18:27it. All right. So we're going to shift gears
- 18:35to another sport. Not even the network. Right.
- 18:39This was off of Fox Sports Radio. Me being the
- 18:43baseball guy, I took a little exception to this
- 18:47comment from last week. So the World Series is
- 18:51going on. Shohei Otani, one of the biggest names,
- 18:56if not the biggest names in baseball right now,
- 18:58he is him and Aaron Judge, top two players. So
- 19:02Rob Parker, on his Fox Sports radio show, this
- 19:08was after the... before the World Series. The
- 19:15Dodgers win. They sweep the Brewers. In game
- 19:19four, this is what Shohei Otani did. Again, nobody's
- 19:24done this since Babe Ruth. Yeah, go ahead and
- 19:26read off the stats. Yeah, there's been nothing
- 19:28like them. So, in this game, a closeout game,
- 19:32he pitched, he started, he was the starting pitcher.
- 19:35He ended up pitching six shutout innings with
- 19:3810 strikeouts. If you also know about baseball,
- 19:41the Dodgers, Shohei Otani, he also bats lead
- 19:44off. He also hit three home runs in that game.
- 19:48And he got the MVP for the NLCS. Nobody else
- 19:54is doing that in baseball. No one's done that
- 19:56in baseball. For decades. Ever. Maybe Babe Ruth,
- 20:00but that's, you know, I don't count Babe Ruth.
- 20:05That's my hot take -home favorite. You got to
- 20:07play against everybody, not just certain people.
- 20:10But Rob Parker decided to say this quote, Shohei
- 20:16didn't do anything special. People are making
- 20:20it out like he pitched a no -hitter and hit four
- 20:23home runs on every at bat. So one, I don't know
- 20:32if Rob Parker is knows anything about baseball
- 20:35because once again if you know the history if
- 20:37you know this normally the history of baseball
- 20:40again we know babe ruth again i'm gonna mention
- 20:41him only because he was a pitcher and a hitter
- 20:44then he became you know obviously just a hitter
- 20:48and with the yankees over 700 home you know 714
- 20:52home runs but there has been no one like shohei
- 20:57otani we've had pitchers that come in the league
- 20:59and they can hit Madison Bumgarner, Mike Hampton,
- 21:04they were pretty good hitters as pitchers. Now,
- 21:07of course, we have Universal DH, so pitchers
- 21:09don't hit. And then comes Shohei Otani. He pitches,
- 21:14and he hits. And he don't just hit, right? It's
- 21:1850 home runs a season, over 100 RBIs, around
- 21:22300 batting average. He's about to be, get another
- 21:26MVP. Again, he is one of a kind and he's a pitcher.
- 21:30Now, I wanna give just a little more backstory
- 21:32on this because of why it was such a big deal.
- 21:34One, he pitched, right? He gave up no runs, he
- 21:37threw six innings and he had 10 strikeouts. Double
- 21:40digit strikeouts is an accomplishment in any
- 21:43game. He did it in six innings. He didn't even
- 21:45pitch a complete game, still had 10 strikeouts.
- 21:48Again, and also three home runs. The pitching
- 21:50part's the big part because Shohei missed all
- 21:53of last season, pitching -wise, he hit. But he
- 21:57didn't pitch because he had arm surgery, you
- 21:58know, surgery. He had an arm injury surgery.
- 22:01So he only started pitching about what halfway
- 22:05through this season, right after the right, you
- 22:07know, roughly half the season. So he was still
- 22:11getting in his groove. So for him in the playoffs,
- 22:14a closeout game to pitch like that and then also
- 22:17three home runs in a game, which is not a small
- 22:21feat in itself. That's a big deal any time anyone
- 22:23hits three home runs in a game. One home runs
- 22:26great. Two home runs is even better. Three, like
- 22:28I said, only so many have hit four, but three
- 22:31in a game and you're talking about the playoffs
- 22:33to go to the World Series. I don't care that
- 22:36it was a sweep and it was game four. It was still
- 22:38the closeout game. You want to close out that
- 22:41game and he did it on the mound at the bat. And
- 22:44Rob Parker is sitting here just saying he didn't
- 22:48do anything special. So you, he said, you sent
- 22:52this to me. Again, guys, I'm not on social media.
- 22:56So people literally have to send me things in
- 22:58order for me to kind of brush up on it and hear
- 23:01about what's going on. So when you sent that
- 23:03to me, my first reaction, I actually sent this
- 23:06to you, was that Rob Parker, historically, zags
- 23:11when everyone else zigs. He's going to be the
- 23:15contrarian. But where I think he's missed the
- 23:18mark with this, and it's obvious, is point blank.
- 23:21You know, you talked about Ohtani as a player.
- 23:24Otani is at the top in terms of best pitchers,
- 23:28and he's at the top when it comes to, you can
- 23:31talk about home runs and hitting, but let's just
- 23:34say hitting as a whole, because that encompasses
- 23:36home runs as well. The historical precedence
- 23:39that this sets is massive. I don't know, again,
- 23:44what Rob Parker was trying to benefit from saying
- 23:48this from. I think it was just, I'm gonna say
- 23:52the most salacious, ridiculous thing that's taking
- 23:55place right now. I'm gonna go the other way,
- 23:59just so that way I could grab the headlines.
- 24:01I think that this entire show, this entire recording
- 24:05is circling around people just trying to generate
- 24:08buzz for themselves, personally, independently,
- 24:13separated from... You know whatever show that
- 24:16they're on like like the like the name of the
- 24:19show that rob parker is on we don't even know
- 24:21The show where alovsky and steven a said the
- 24:25things that they said obviously that's first
- 24:27take but like that's not our alovsky show It
- 24:31just it just seems as if people are just we're
- 24:33in the the age where guys are going to say things
- 24:36Where people are going to say things that grabs
- 24:38the attention? And the worst part about this
- 24:42is is we're going to put this episode out And
- 24:44within a matter of days, it's not gonna matter.
- 24:47We're all just gonna move on. And I just wanted
- 24:51to speak on that because I like holding people
- 24:53accountable for the things that they say. I talk
- 24:55a lot of shit, man. But if I'm wrong on something
- 24:58or if I'm off, call me out on it. We can have
- 25:01the discussion, then we can move on. But I would
- 25:05like to see whatever Rob Barker's, he may double
- 25:08down. and say, guys, I said what I said, and
- 25:10I'm going to own it. But I would like for someone
- 25:12to give him, hey, man, this is something that
- 25:15has never happened before. And you brush it off
- 25:21as if it's not a big deal. Maybe he's not a big
- 25:23baseball guy. So maybe it was a shot at baseball
- 25:26as a whole. But for you to discredit a player
- 25:29as great as Ohtani, as great for the game of
- 25:32baseball. that Ohtani is. And for you to crap
- 25:35on that type of performance like that, it's just
- 25:38I think it just kind of speaks to him, you know,
- 25:40maybe being a little too loose lipped and just
- 25:42wanting to get his, you know, be a little too
- 25:44hot takey. Yeah, like you said, this episode
- 25:49is about these talking heads saying things, you
- 25:53know, and we've talked about this before. This
- 25:56was just to me like Rob Parker and even Stephen
- 25:58A. I just think they were bad takes. Rob Parkers
- 26:01to me was just outrageous and not even like,
- 26:04you can have a view on the other side of something,
- 26:06right? Just have some information to back it
- 26:08up. You know, he has nothing to back this up
- 26:12with. this is this is yeah he has nothing to
- 26:14back this up so i'm gonna follow but here's the
- 26:17thing i'm gonna follow i'm gonna follow your
- 26:19lead on that though because i i think if that
- 26:21is if that's our bar like if that's the standard
- 26:25then this entire podcast is about people saying
- 26:28things outrageous because of all three people
- 26:30that we covered in it none of them have proof
- 26:32of anything they just went on live broadcast
- 26:36airways and said some shit all of them true Just
- 26:41like you said if you get it is that and that's
- 26:43what we're saying. Like it's just they're just
- 26:45saying stuff and It's just there's no bait. There's
- 26:49no it's just so outrageous and it made no whatsoever
- 26:54You know and the take is just so bad again for
- 26:57me, especially Parker I think it's just because
- 27:00it doesn't compute with the in the game of the
- 27:04of baseball Statistically historically it's like
- 27:08dude what? You know, again, what the hell, man?
- 27:11It's bad. And I try to think about guys like
- 27:14Skip Bayless and Colin Calhurd. They like to
- 27:16say a lot of stuff. And again, like we said,
- 27:19all these guys do, especially on TV radio, they
- 27:21have a platform. And you want those hot takes
- 27:23and you want those different views and opinions.
- 27:25And I think about Colin Calhurd way back when
- 27:28he said, LeBron, you can go sit down. Ben Simmons
- 27:31has got this. And it's such a bad take that did
- 27:37not age well. Yeah, he was completely wrong.
- 27:40And like you said, you know, we say things, but
- 27:42like I said, we're going to say things we believe
- 27:44in. And you may, you know, some people may say,
- 27:47man, they're crazy. But at the end of the day,
- 27:49you know, if we're wrong, we'll come back on
- 27:51here and say, hey, we're wrong. But I'm not going
- 27:52to say, I'm not going to say shit I don't believe
- 27:54in. And I'm not going to say, you know, stuff
- 27:56that is just so outrageous. You know, you may
- 28:00be like, I don't know, Kent, like that's kind
- 28:02of out there, but I believe it. Well, no Say
- 28:06things that say things. It's it's again. Just
- 28:09have some facts Just have some proof just have
- 28:10something to back up the the craziness that you
- 28:13say That's what I want the talking heads to do
- 28:15and I know they got to fill up You know our two
- 28:18hour three hours a day on our shows, you know,
- 28:20Stephen A's got the the ESPN He's got the radio
- 28:23then he's got the podcast and he's got you know,
- 28:26then he's going on CNN and all these other shows
- 28:27I mean, he's a busy man. He's he's talking a
- 28:29lot. You got to cover you got to have content
- 28:32But just just don't be saying stuff, man. Well,
- 28:34and I'll and I'll end it on this because because
- 28:37you I understand what it is that you're saying.
- 28:40But the these are three key stories that took
- 28:44place all within a matter of hours. It was all
- 28:47in the same week. Yeah. All of it. A matter of
- 28:50days. And I think what was most important is
- 28:53framing this around what actually took place.
- 28:57There were things that were said and I'll give
- 29:00these guys cover. If you want to introduce these
- 29:04types of topics, just ask the question. If Stephen
- 29:10A just would have asked the question to the panel
- 29:12that was up there with him, then you can engage
- 29:15in the conversation and allow people to do the
- 29:17speculation and everything for you. Same thing
- 29:19with Arlovski. Just ask, just say, Hey guys,
- 29:22do you guys think he still wants to be there?
- 29:24Like none, all of this goes away. But when in
- 29:28the same thing with Rob Parker, Rob Parker could
- 29:30have turned that into multiple hours of fantastic
- 29:34talk radio by asking the question and have whoever
- 29:39else is on the show with them interact with them,
- 29:41or have people call in and tell them to his face
- 29:44that he's nuts. Like you have an opportunity
- 29:47to build on it. You can cover these same things
- 29:49and say the things that you want to say, but
- 29:51how you say them matters. And simply just asking
- 29:54the question, meaning if it was me. And I really
- 29:57wanted to know, let's just say, for example,
- 30:00I felt the same way Rob Parker did. I'd get on
- 30:03here, I'd set up with you, and I'd say, hey,
- 30:05Kent, was it really that big of a deal? And then
- 30:09you, it allows you to take a blowtorch to me,
- 30:13take me out, and you know what? There's your
- 30:16content. It's right there for you. And these
- 30:19guys are seasoned. Just be better at it. You
- 30:22know, because now I think all three of them,
- 30:25everyone who we covered on this podcast today,
- 30:26they all look a little ridiculous. And that's
- 30:29me saying that. I put my name on that shit. Yeah,
- 30:34that's it. I mean, I think you covered that very
- 30:37well there. I would definitely let you know.
- 30:39I don't think I would take a blowtorch, but I
- 30:42think we would. No, no, no. You would say you
- 30:45would say log off. You'd say log off. You sound
- 30:49ridiculous. I would say, nah, that's not the
- 30:52case. Here's what it is. And the same on you.
- 30:54You're going to know stuff that I may not be
- 30:57as versed in. Listen, if I say something that
- 30:59ridiculous. Well, yeah, Rob Parker, that's just
- 31:03stupid. Yeah. Listen, if you throw the grenade
- 31:05my way, man, I'll take it. I'll take it. Yeah.
- 31:20fun, random topic. We're going to end on this
- 31:22really quick. If there was an athlete player
- 31:26that you could fight and know you're going to
- 31:29win, you brought this topic up a while back.
- 31:32We never did it. So here we go. Is there somebody
- 31:36that if you knew you were going to win, you would
- 31:38fight them? Yeah. And okay. So I like this question
- 31:45because it removes all doubt. Like, you know
- 31:48you get to put hands on someone, you get an opportunity
- 31:51to embarrass them, and you know you're gonna
- 31:56walk out the victor. I don't have a lot of disdain
- 32:00for sports athletes. My disdain for sports athletes
- 32:06comes from, you know, how I view them as a fan.
- 32:13I have, I have one athlete that if I had an opportunity
- 32:16to fight them, I think I want to do it just for
- 32:20the clout. And it would be someone that I would
- 32:24never, you know, take a swing at ever. But me
- 32:29winning this fight, I think does so much more
- 32:31for like the legend that follows log off that
- 32:36I think I'd have to do it. I think I'd fight
- 32:39Ron Artest slash metal world. Wow. I'm gonna
- 32:44go for the biggest dog out in the yard. And it's
- 32:48nothing personal against him. And I know he's
- 32:51got, you know, some issues and things that he's
- 32:52faced throughout his career, but he's the biggest,
- 32:56baddest man in my eyes, where it's like, that's
- 32:59someone that you don't want to mess with. So
- 33:02it's like, so if I'm going to do it, like, when
- 33:04I thought about that, it's like, I thought about
- 33:06like Shaq, but like Shaq's a big, he's big and
- 33:09funny. Like he's, you know, he's jovial in a
- 33:11lot of ways. Meta World Peace slash Ron Artest
- 33:15is a serious human being. And even to this day,
- 33:20I think his voice and his name still reigns fear
- 33:22in a lot of NBA players' heads. So that's who
- 33:26I'm going to go with. Ron Artest, Meta World
- 33:30Peace, you have the clout. I'm just going to
- 33:33go a different way, just so I can throw in my
- 33:38cultural references. Pop culture reference. So
- 33:42so for the athlete, I'm going to fight. I'm going
- 33:44to go straight to boxing. I'm going to go to
- 33:46the late 80s. I'm going to go straight to Mike
- 33:48Tyson, baddest man on the planet. I'm going to
- 33:51knock him out in the background. We'll be playing
- 33:53DJ Jazzy Jeff, Fresh Prince. I think I can beat
- 33:56Mike Tyson. I'm going to knock Mike Tyson's head
- 33:58into the 18th row. And if you don't know, go
- 34:03look it up. Go listen. You'll get that reference.
- 34:08Wow. So it's funny. When we when we introduced
- 34:13this topic, I never thought about fighting a
- 34:15fighter. Oh It didn't cross my mind at all. And
- 34:19it's like and it just think about all the great
- 34:21fighters that I could have picked But I went
- 34:24with a guy who's known I went with the guy that's
- 34:27opposite That's not a fighter, but nobody would
- 34:31want to fight him You know, so no, no any known
- 34:35for one of the biggest I mean, our test is known
- 34:38for one of the biggest fights ever, the Malice
- 34:40at the Palace. That's true, too. And I did see
- 34:42him throw hands. And wow, it was scary. That's
- 34:46for sure. So that's a good one. You could have
- 34:49went with anybody that was involved in that,
- 34:50by the way. Yeah, I went with Mike Tyson just
- 34:53for this topic. It was fun to do that. And then
- 34:56I can also make the Fresh Prince Will Smith reference.
- 34:59There you go. It always makes me happy. No, yeah,
- 35:01no, that works, man. And no, and yeah, good.
- 35:04Shout out to Metal World Peace, man. He's he's
- 35:06trying to take a turn to be a better person.
- 35:08He's doing a lot of things. But but it but if
- 35:11I had to. Tony Braxton. I remember those times.
- 35:17But no, man, it's a that's a damn that's a damn
- 35:19good one. I like that. Yeah, I got you. So that's
- 35:21another episode of Fanatically Speaking. I am
- 35:23Kent, the co -host and promoter. I am Log Off,
- 35:26the Log Off legend, hater of social media. I'm
- 35:28the co -host and producer of the show. Thank
- 35:30you all for listening to this episode. Again,
- 35:32I know it's a little different playing with the
- 35:35format a little bit, trying to have some fun.
- 35:37But, you know, those things that came out this
- 35:39week, man, it was just it was something that
- 35:40we just couldn't set. Let's sit there and not,
- 35:43you know, use it as an opportunity to drop an
- 35:46episode. So I hope you guys enjoyed it. So you
