Transcript
- 0:18Hello, and welcome to Gatesleapers, the pop culture game show that shines a
- 0:22spotlight onto everyone's favorite fandoms. I'm your games master and the guy who is
- 0:27holding all of the world's microchips Matt Watson. But a games master needs games,
- 0:32and games need players. And as this is a PC gaming episode,
- 0:36I think we'll be using usernames only, so leap Frogs please welcome our first
- 0:41team. He is a podcaster and author whose debut novel, Fane is available
- 0:46right now. It's pants Less Aaron Hello, Hello, and she is part
- 0:50of the goog com stream team who you can catch on Twitch at Lovelust Games.
- 0:55It's Lovelust. Hello, Hello, Hello, Welcome to the podcast pants
- 1:00Hour and love Lust. I'm using user names. This feels interesting. I
- 1:04feel a little awkward now it's been it's been ages since I've gone by that
- 1:08handle pretty you know, regularly, so which I mean, now's the chance
- 1:14to update if you want something. Here's the long story short, and then
- 1:17the genesis for this episode was that I used to be part of the god
- 1:21dot com stream team, but then as my novel came closer and closer to
- 1:25becoming a thing, I realized I had to choose, and as much as
- 1:30it hurt me to leave behind a community of incredible individuals, everybody in the
- 1:36god dot com stream team is amazing and joyful and a wonderful part of my
- 1:41life, and I wish I could have invited them all. But when I
- 1:46put forward PC games as a possible fandom, I knew I had to invite
- 1:49people from my old haunt, my old hangout, and I love everybody there.
- 1:56But I think we got two of the best this time. For sure.
- 2:00It certainly sounds it, and I will from now on say GOG instead
- 2:02of go og, as I did at the beginning, like either did you
- 2:07know gog used to stand for good old games and now they just close?
- 2:12Now it's just going. Now it's just lying, it's still games. Yeah.
- 2:16I could be wrong, and I thought they had changed it so well
- 2:20they did, but not in my household. It's great, great to have
- 2:24you here. Aaron Lovelust, thanks so much for joining us on the podcast.
- 2:29Uh, what's the origin? If you'll use the name? Well with
- 2:32my username was very much created in a vacuum. I was just like,
- 2:36what, what's something that sounds cool? Love? Yeah, everyone loves love
- 2:42LUs like wonderlust that'd be awesome. I didn't actually proceed to think deeply about
- 2:50that. The words luss just meant like wonderluss, like a craving. That's
- 2:53fine. Uh so I can't really use my username in certain places like Nintendo
- 2:59online. Uh you know, just the important places online. But that's that's
- 3:02it. Super super normal name that no one double takes. When I asked,
- 3:08you know, when they joined my stream and I'm like, thanks for
- 3:10joining the Lusty league. No one asked questions. Super casual community, very
- 3:19very calm, very casual. I love it so much, I'll ask you
- 3:23first, love lust When did you get into PC gaming? When was When
- 3:27was your entry point into PC game? I started PC gaming at my school.
- 3:32Nice, Yes, I went to school. I started a new school
- 3:37and it was one of those like kind of weird satellite schools where it's like
- 3:42in an office kind of situation. The vibes were immaculate, and in the
- 3:46computer room they had this PC game where you like, I forget the name
- 3:51off the top of my head, but you like make a little village and
- 3:53then people attack you, you attack them. It was very attack game.
- 4:00Yeah, yeah, Microsoft overyone knows it. Yeah, I forget the name.
- 4:03I'm not sure someone's getting the comments. Well, actually I can go
- 4:06find It was similar to Settlers, but it was it was literally from the
- 4:13Microsoft like publishing studio. That's all I remember off the top of my head.
- 4:17But I was I think that's what it was. I think that's what
- 4:20it was. Yeah. I was obsessed with it to the point that I
- 4:24was just like, I'm gonna make a little village and then people would attack
- 4:27me and I'm like, what is why? Hello building here? You're literally
- 4:31beautiful trying to create a moment in history. Didn't get the point of that
- 4:36game at all, but that was like my entry point, and I realized
- 4:41they make other games on the computer. It's not just this one game where
- 4:46you're just like at the bush with the berries. Okay, that's cool.
- 4:48So I got into the SIMS and from there I was like, you can
- 4:53shoot people on the computer. Anything's possible. Yeah, doors were opened.
- 4:58Oh that's that's fantastic. Moving over to your teammate, Aaron, what about
- 5:01yourself, when did you get your starts into PC gaming? So? I
- 5:05think my dad brought home a computer when I was nine or ten years old,
- 5:10so this would have been nineteen eighty nine, nineteen ninety somewhere around there,
- 5:14and I remember my dad showing me some games and he had more on
- 5:18like these discs, and then one day when they were gone, I remember
- 5:23like trying to get this one game to run, but it wouldn't because there
- 5:25wasn't enough conventional memory. Back in the day, you needed six hundred and
- 5:29forty K of conventional memory and you needed a good amount of that to be
- 5:31free, and apparently not enough of it was free. So I was like,
- 5:36you know, in my child brain, I was like, okay,
- 5:39so something is taking up the memory that I need to use, so let
- 5:43me just delete some things and that should free up the memory. Yeah.
- 5:46So I deleted either the configsed dot sis or the auto exec dot bat one
- 5:50of the two, and to my surprise and to light, the game actually
- 5:55ran and I was able to play it, and I was like, this
- 5:57is fun. And then when the night ended, I shut the computer down,
- 6:00didn't think anything of it, and went to bed, and in the
- 6:03morning my dad was like, what did you do? So he called his
- 6:09friend and his friend came over with a disc. I imagine I know now
- 6:13that he launched into dust from the disc and replaced the missing files and reconfigured
- 6:17everything. But at the time, to me, it was a miracle.
- 6:21I was like, I was like, I saw how dead that computer was.
- 6:26It was dead. It would not do anything with a disc to fix
- 6:30my machine. He not only fixed it, but he sat me down and
- 6:35he gave me a lot of information. He was like, okay, so
- 6:38these files you do not touch ever, you leave these alone and here,
- 6:43and he hands me a CD full of Windows ninety five games that he brought
- 6:47specifically for me because he knew that I was a gamer. And I was
- 6:51like, this is the coolest thing ever. I break the machine and it
- 6:55gets better. Wow. So I think I was pretty much. I wasn't
- 7:00locked into PC gaming at that point, but I was. I was a
- 7:03fan for sure. Yeah. No, that's a fantastic origin story. And
- 7:08in a way to not learn life lessons. Yeah, absolutely absolutely. You'd
- 7:13think i'd start breaking the computer more often, but no, I actually became
- 7:16responsible. Well gross, sorry, thank you so much for being here,
- 7:28but you will need some opponents. This is a t m O RPG,
- 7:31after all, a tinily multiplayer online role playing game. Oh, I'm actually
- 7:39gonna level up as points tinally, everything is tiny. Everything is we're scaling
- 7:45back all the features. Okay, fair enough. So the team to my
- 7:49metaphysical left, I suppose he is also part of the dog dot com stream
- 7:54team who you can see on twitch at flaos it's flaos. Oh hi hell
- 8:00oh, and she is a podcaster who needs a screen name for today's episode.
- 8:05Actually, so we'll have to crowdsource that. I think it's a hi.
- 8:09I feel so out of out of touch. Yeah, I feel like
- 8:13first first we should get aldre use a name. Right. What was what
- 8:16was your first email address ever? Oh, once upon a time, I
- 8:24was a cheerleader and I was really big into that, and so it was
- 8:28probably like a bunch of characters to make squiggles and stars and like cheer girl.
- 8:35That's potentially I don't know if it was g I r L or g
- 8:39U r L. History has forgotten. It is lost in the sands of
- 8:43time. I mean, if you want to be che a girl for today,
- 8:48you could be that if you like. I heard like three r's there,
- 8:54So that's fantastic understanding of my accent. Normally we missed the rs.
- 9:01I mean, I'm open to that. If we can spell girl like the
- 9:05g r r L girl. Y yeah, girl, yeah, absolutely,
- 9:09I'm open to this. You you are called Chia girl. Haven't cheered in
- 9:13years, but it's fine, nice, good stuff. Okay, Flaos,
- 9:20thank you so much for being here. Another member of the dog dot com
- 9:22stream team. I'll ask you the same question, when did you first get
- 9:26into PC gaming? I feel like my story is kind of like Aaron's because
- 9:30my dad also came home with a computer. I have like a vague memory
- 9:33maybe when I was four years old, of going to some little hole in
- 9:35the wall computer store and we brought home an IBM compatible XT like nice,
- 9:41it's old, old, very slow, but it came with, you know,
- 9:48an old version of DOS and unlike Aaron's dad, though my dad did
- 9:52not did not bring home games. He had like something to dial to work,
- 9:54which I later figured out like he had some sort of modem capability.
- 9:58I accidentally found out about Once upon a Time and word Perfect. So I
- 10:03made my own game that I called Train Game by creating a train shape out
- 10:07of letters and that I'd hold down the space bar and that is fantastic.
- 10:18So that was that was my first game. Was Yeah, We're perfect.
- 10:24Eventually he I guess got some pirated games from work or something, and so
- 10:31the first real, like official game I remember playing is Sega's Frogger. Okay,
- 10:37goss, Yeah it was, yeah, it was. It was kind
- 10:39of fun. It made me kind of start loving arcade games, which I've
- 10:43never really played a lot of. But my dad's also very straight lacedays you
- 10:46might have guessed from not having games, and so we felt bad about pirating
- 10:48games and didn't copy that floppy and deleted it, and like eventually he bought
- 10:52some educational games of course, so that that was kind of the start.
- 10:58And one day my mom got shareware games for Christmas so that my brother and
- 11:03I wouldn't fight over them, and uh, one of those games was Commander
- 11:07Keene, and that's that was kind of from there. It was It's very
- 11:11much like Mario but for the PC. Okay, it was the first kind
- 11:16of smooth scrolling platform or game on the PC. So technologically it was a
- 11:18big deal from ID Software of course made Doom and Quick and all that stuff,
- 11:22But for me, I don't really just really impacted my life, and
- 11:26even now my profile picture on almost everything is Commander Keen, if it's not
- 11:30my real face. So nice. That's wonderful. Yeah, I feel like
- 11:35you could have fought back against having those educational games because you were playing wood
- 11:39Train. That's that's educational. Yeah, brilliant stuff, and that's old dry.
- 11:43I feel I feel kind of bad asking this, but uh, I
- 11:46mean you might have like some kind of origin story girl. Oh yeah,
- 11:50sorry, Oh this is this is going to take a long time. Geea,
- 11:54go what about yourself? I'll leave all that in your origin story of
- 12:01PC gaming? Rough. I think most of the time I wasn't. I
- 12:07wasn't big into games really growing up much at all. I've only recently started
- 12:11doing anything related to gaming, loving it more. Women need to be involved
- 12:16in games. It is so much fun. Don't think that you can't do
- 12:20it. Do it AnyWho. Pretty much the only games that I played wait,
- 12:24no, I remember at the Minards near me, which is a hardware
- 12:30store. Okay, but they had like random sections of the things. It
- 12:35was a thing. It's Midwest as Midwest as hell, but for some reason,
- 12:41they had like random sections that had random stuff, and there was the
- 12:46game cultures and it was just like Viking City Builder. Oh nonsense, it
- 12:52isn't. If people come in attack you sah, yeah, yeah, and
- 12:56you could establish trade routes and whatnot. I never actually knew how to play
- 13:01it, but I was obsessed with that game you go for a solid amount
- 13:05of time. In hindsight, I haven't looked at it since then. It's
- 13:09probably wasn't good, but I was obsessed with it, and that is the
- 13:13measure of quality. I just googled it because i'd never heard of it.
- 13:18Good Culture Cultures one and two are both on gog and it's it's rated really
- 13:22highly, like four point five out of five, So I knew Chuer Girl
- 13:28had excellent taste. Yeah, I think you were onto a winner there.
- 13:31And it's seventy percent off right now, shameless plug for I don't know the
- 13:39timing. Yeah, it's three bucks. Wow, Yeah it was. It
- 13:43was just one of those ones that was like on on sale at the time,
- 13:46and I was like, I want this, and my Dad's like,
- 13:50you've never had any interest in any of these things, and I was like,
- 13:54what a time to start. I think he was just mad that some
- 14:00would be taking the computer from his flight simulators, so I think that's what
- 14:05he was truly. Dads love the flight simulas. Yeah, oh god,
- 14:09I have a small issue where every once in a while I'll get into something
- 14:15extremely niche and one time I got really into trucking simulator. Oh my god.
- 14:20The people that are into it are into it would work to support you
- 14:28joining. It's like when you if you ever see like an old person birding
- 14:31and you ask them one question, they will never shut up. You are
- 14:35the person interested in birding, and they will follow you home waiting your bushes.
- 14:39They're like, hey, hey, they're birds out here. They will
- 14:41tell you the sack same thing. Yes, So I completely get your dad
- 14:46being like, no, you can't. This is I am here with the
- 14:50flight simulator. Where are we going to put the foot pedals? Somebody else
- 14:56wants to use the computer? Exactly? Well, cheer girl, I'm glad
- 15:01you found your origin story as well. So, okay, teams, you're
- 15:03about to go live to your audience, but before you can do that,
- 15:07you're going to need to settle on some branding. So I'd like each pair
- 15:11to come up with a PC gaming themed team name. Please, let's start
- 15:15with Pantsless Aaron and Lovelust. What have you got? I mean, I
- 15:18didn't have anything in mind at least I was I was. I was too
- 15:24busy combining our names into one. So I had pantsless lust. No,
- 15:30I just had pants lust much smart desire, desire and craving for pants.
- 15:37Yes, but never felt that before. No, it doesn't. It doesn't
- 15:43feel exactly right. Yeah, doing it the other way love aarin also doesn't
- 15:46work. So we all love are So I don't know, loveless, you
- 15:54have any ideas. My big contribution to the idea space is like I like
- 16:00them games, so not too sure on my end. How about how about
- 16:06something with the Saints Row, because that is the first game that I think
- 16:10love lesson I played together. Okay, we did. We did co op
- 16:14Saints Row. We'll just be the Third Street Saints then, no, we
- 16:18should be like the next street over. We're the fourth Streets. I have
- 16:25heard of. You do the third Street? No, fourth Street? Not
- 16:29quite on fifth that's where they keep the bank and there was some controversy.
- 16:33Colors of magenta and you know, yeah, the fourth Street states. I
- 16:37love it. That's a great team name, good stuff. Let's find out
- 16:41who they'll be facing flofs. I was gonna say, Ultra if you if
- 16:48you do, I will not I will not blame you. I will refer
- 16:51to your ideas first, as you know the extent of my gaming it's cultures
- 16:57and it's point and click mystery games. That's where we're at. There's a
- 17:00second half of that. Okay, well that's good too. You enjoyed the
- 17:04Nancy games, correct, Oh yeah, yeah, I've heard good things about
- 17:10that. I've never played to myself. But another one with a cult following
- 17:14that will come out of the woodwork. Well, I mean there's train game
- 17:18and there's cultures. The train called culture trains like an indie rock band.
- 17:29Definitely does it? Does players? You have an excellent rig, right,
- 17:33you have a you have a fantastic PC gaming machine, right, maybe ten
- 17:37years ago, so it's been a little long in the two. If you
- 17:41were to play a Nancy Drew game, it would look really good. Right.
- 17:45Oh yeah, So I'm just this is just a suggestion that's possible.
- 17:49This is just a suggestion. Fancy Drew, Fancy I love it. Oh,
- 17:55I like that. Fancy Fancy Drew is good. Fancy Drew is Goodancy
- 18:00Drew. All right, Fancy Drew for a fancy rig and the only series
- 18:06that address playtree. We have a hard battle ahead of us. I'm looking
- 18:12forward to it. I'm excited. Yeah, so we've got the Fourth Street
- 18:15Saints versus Fancy Drew. All right. And if you're listening to this and
- 18:19thinking, well, I'm mildly entertained by these voices. But the only things
- 18:23I play games on a my smartphone, an old Nintendo Wii, and a
- 18:26half dead Tamagotchi from the nineties, don't worry his order with a little segment
- 18:32we like to call passing knowledge. While PC gaming has been around since the
- 18:40Nimrod was built in the nineteen fifties, it truly got a foothold in the
- 18:44wider market in the nineteen seventies and eighties with the release of the Commodore sixty
- 18:48four and the Apple Too. Even with their minimal processing power and era appropriate
- 18:53graphics, the potential of computer gaming was a parent. Everyone wanted to play
- 18:59chop Lifter, Kickman, and Tooth Invaders. By the nineteen nineties, gaming
- 19:11specific consoles were gaining traction and a division arose. Consoles like the Super Nintendo
- 19:17and Sega Genesis offered plug and play simplicity, while PC gaming offered versatility.
- 19:22One of the hallmarks of PC gaming is the software capabilities The PC platform hosts
- 19:27tons of titles in an active modern community. To make games even more personalized.
- 19:33With digital distribution platforms like Steam, digital versions of your favorite games are
- 19:37almost as easy to access as porn. Do I get a prize? I
- 19:42have nothing on me, but I'll think something. On top of the software
- 19:48customization, PC enthusiasts are able to assemble their own hardware, picking perfect graphics,
- 19:53cards, processors, and peripherals, a term I just learned for their
- 19:59specific needs. PC gaming is for everyone. One PC can be optimized for
- 20:03streaming on Twitch or posting on YouTube. Another can have enough memory to store
- 20:08more games than you could ever play, a third could have cutting edge graphics,
- 20:12and a fourth could be rigged to play the nineteen ninety five film Hackers
- 20:17on repeat until the end of time rather replicates till it overloads a file than
- 20:22it spreads like cancer longs. Thank you wordra? How did? How did?
- 20:27D? How did? Was that good? PC gaming fans? Was
- 20:30that good summary of the history corrections? I'll take note there was no mention
- 20:37of Todd Howard at all. Gross oversight. Yeah, we'll have to Todd
- 20:47Howard paragraph oh Man. Just before we get to today's games. I've asked
- 21:00each player to bring in a muse that's something that inspires them or something they
- 21:04love from this particular fandom. PC gaming is inspiring to me because as a
- 21:08Mac user, this whole medium is entirely aspirational, so I have to be
- 21:12inspired by it. Aaron Panciless, Aaron, we will start with you.
- 21:18I thought it would be so much easier to just say everyone's user names,
- 21:21but it's really doing this for fifty episodes. It'll be easier for the others.
- 21:26You've just been calling me my regular name, that's true, so as
- 21:30for me my muse. I mean, what else could I pick? But
- 21:33nineteen ninety six is the Pandora Directive. It is a PC game from the
- 21:40Text Murphy series of video games, and if you have not heard of this
- 21:42series, you're not alone. It was at the time like one of the
- 21:49most groundbreaking PC games ever. When its predecessor, Under a Killing Moon came
- 21:55out, there was a huge hollabaloo about it and people blew up about it,
- 21:57and the Pandora or Directive is, in my position, inarguably a superior
- 22:03game, but it didn't get nearly as much press. But as it is,
- 22:07it had like a fully three D environment where you could search through rooms,
- 22:14open drawers, find notes that people left behind, find clues everywhere.
- 22:18It had tons of puzzles, a lot of which were logic puzzles, not
- 22:22just inventory puzzles like rubbing an item on another item and hope something happens.
- 22:26Yeah, but a lot of them were actual logic puzzles where you had to
- 22:29think your way through them, and I love those. And add to that,
- 22:33it had a conversation system much akin to Mass Effects. In fact that
- 22:37the director of Mass Effect I think, claimed that the Text Murphy series influenced
- 22:41it because you didn't know what text was going to say. You would have
- 22:45a B and C and it would describe the flavor of what he was going
- 22:48to say, but not what he was actually going to say. And these
- 22:52conversation trees could be intricate. There could be, you know, different paths
- 22:56through them that could lead to different endings. And there are so many different
- 23:00video clips of these actors talking to each other. It also all used FMV.
- 23:04By the way, you're not familiar, but it was one of the
- 23:07few FMV games that was an actual enjoyable, playable game. A lot of
- 23:12FMB games at the time were just like choose your own adventure books with video
- 23:18is all they really were, and they were massively disappointing, whereas games like
- 23:21this and Wing Commander actually tried to put a game into the formula to make
- 23:26it entertaining and Pandora directives succeeded better than anything. And that is the game
- 23:32that absolutely hooked me as a PC gamer for life. Like once I saw
- 23:37that, I'm like, the PC games can be these incredible experiences that you
- 23:41literally could not get on consoles. There was nothing like this on the Superintendo.
- 23:47There was nothing like this on Nintendo sixty four or a Genesis or any
- 23:49of it. This had to be a PC game, and for that reason
- 23:53I loved PC games and I constantly looked for other experiences like it. Then
- 24:00on out that's that's fantastic. Always get to spotlight a hidden gem again.
- 24:06I'd never I'd never heard of it. I'll put my hands up and say
- 24:07I'd not heard of that game, but not surprised. Sounds great for its
- 24:11time, for sure. I was really expecting to say Ginger Lynn Allen to
- 24:15be honest, but uh, we already covered the poor and dammit, I'm
- 24:22the Wing Commander three part of her career, not the other part of our
- 24:25career. Fantastic, Aaron, that's a great mus We'll move on over to
- 24:30your teammates, Lovelust. What's inspiring you from the world of PC gaming.
- 24:34I couldn't really decide. I'm torn between two, so mentioning Todd Howard,
- 24:40I would say Morowind was one of my defining PC games, and then after
- 24:45that, I would say that Vampire of the Masquerade is also one of the
- 24:49ones that was super inspiring to me, and both for really different reasons.
- 24:52With Morowin, I had never realized that you could boot up a game and
- 24:56enter an entire new world. I feel like all the other games that I've
- 25:00played there were kind of simulation games. You gotta hop in have a simulated
- 25:04experience. You're doing what the game wants you to do, You're building a
- 25:07city. That kind of vibe with Moro. When I made a character,
- 25:11they were completely mine. I could name them, I could decide what their
- 25:15skills were, and from there I'm just let loose into this open world where
- 25:18I definitely didn't steal everything, not nailed down. Absolutely amazing experience and I
- 25:26still take that with me to this day. I still go into open world
- 25:29games and just wonder what is possible. I would never do that and incriminate
- 25:36myself live on the aid. I would never do that. And then you
- 25:41get to something like Vampire the Masquerade that was eye opening in a completely different
- 25:45way because it wasn't just an open world experience. It was a very linear
- 25:49game that gave you some freedom, but it took the world that I'm used
- 25:53to Santa Monica and the first part of the game, and it gave me
- 25:59a different world to believe in where I was a part of it. I
- 26:02was this magical vampire creature who definitely doesn't play the hotel part muted because I'm
- 26:07terrified. So yeah, like, both of those games both opened my eyes
- 26:15to the possibilities of a world within a computer and there's really no going back
- 26:19after that. Yeah, no, that's great. I'm glad you went forward
- 26:22and name two of them because that both inspiring for different different reasons. I
- 26:26was I love the Eldest Girls games, but I sort of came in oblivion,
- 26:30and as I've mentioned, I don't own a PC, so but I
- 26:33would have Marowind is something I would have loved to have played it looks so
- 26:37much fun. It's very much worth going back to play. I think a
- 26:41lot of people are like, well, it's old, I'll just play the
- 26:42new game. And for me personally online I kind of make a habit of
- 26:47going back to play games I literally never heard of before that seem interesting and
- 26:52it's been some of the best fun I've ever had. Is someone will be
- 26:55like, hey, have you heard of this? Absolutely not, Let's play,
- 26:57And it's always so much fun to just be able to walk into a
- 27:02world that a team created and it's so immersive. There's so much going on,
- 27:07there's so much jank, and it's just so much fun. Yeah.
- 27:10All right, we've heard the muses from the Fourth Street Saints, but let's
- 27:14move on over to Fancy Drew. Because of Fancy Rags and Nancy Drew Flaos,
- 27:19what's inspiring you from PC gaming? Oh man, those two stories are
- 27:23so good and now I feel like I kind of do you remember that old
- 27:27name about the Turtle kid? I like turtles. Yeah, that's kind of
- 27:33how I like Commander Keene. My story is maybe not nearly as inspiring I
- 27:37did mention. So my first games are educational games, and then one Christmas
- 27:42we got Shawer Games as a collection of Shower games. However, Commander Keen
- 27:47was actually hidden from me and my brother. For whatever reason, my dad
- 27:49didn't have that one on the computer. He installed everything else. But one
- 27:53night we'd gone out to like some sort of event that had arcade games set
- 27:57up, like back when you could just run darcade games, and they had
- 28:03a Mario Arcade games like the Play Choice ten or something. I don't know
- 28:06what it was exactly, but it was Super Mario Brothers, the original one
- 28:10that was also on the nests, and I had wanted to play it because
- 28:12I really loved that game. I played at my cousin's house and we weren't
- 28:17able to play it, and I was really broken up. I don't remember
- 28:18how old I was, I'll save face and say I was like five,
- 28:22yeah, probably twenty three. Yeah, So I was really sad about it.
- 28:29And my dad's like, okay, tell you what, I have a
- 28:32game that's like Mario on the computer. You can you can try it out,
- 28:37you and you and your brother can try it out. And so we
- 28:38moved up this game. Commander Keene was like, oh cool. My brother
- 28:42starts playing, finishes a level and my dad's like, all right, playos
- 28:47Istern and I get up and to the level, walk right for about two
- 28:51seconds, fall into a pit and die and that was it. My dad's
- 28:55like, okay, time for bad kids. I think we've all learned lesson
- 29:00he handed. I'm an early riser and I'm sure my parents hated that.
- 29:06Now that I have kids, I hate when my kids are up early.
- 29:07And so I was probably up six o'clock in the morning, went downstairs,
- 29:12turned on that computer and started playing Commander Keen and just played and played and
- 29:17played. It was only the first of many episodes of Commander Keen, and
- 29:22eventually I played all of my own, all of them. The Keen community
- 29:26became my home for many years. Nice and it was a small one,
- 29:30but I mean, I'm still still in contact. And actually the craziest thing
- 29:36was on Twitch. While I streamed on Twitch, I'm part of the retro
- 29:38community. I feel like, at least maybe they don't know I'm there,
- 29:41but I'm I'm part of the community. And one of the streamers from there
- 29:47she's like, oh, hey, Flayo's I was like a fan of yours
- 29:51when I was a kid, Like what you banned me from the Commander Keen
- 29:56form, Like what, oh my god, I some some person who's now
- 30:03no longer a kid recognized me from the Commander Keen fandom, you know,
- 30:07twenty years later, and it is crazy to me. But that's great,
- 30:11that is really inspiring, despite how you hilariously teed up that it's I love
- 30:18the fandom through the through the years, through the ages thing of like being
- 30:22part of a small community and then going into a wider community and bumping into
- 30:26maybe some of those people along the way. And also, look this,
- 30:29we're gonna run out of fandoms eventually in several years time, I'll come call
- 30:33in for a Command of Keen episode and I'll learn all about it. Yes,
- 30:37I'll bring in the others fantastic stuff. Okay, And finally, Audra,
- 30:44what is inspiring you? This one can be a little bit broader and
- 30:48it might be a cheating thing because I said it earlier. Women who start
- 30:52gaming late, because I have found like I understand that like there is less
- 31:00of it now, but especially growing up, it was very gender coded about
- 31:06who was allowed to game and who when they tried, would get the controller
- 31:10taken away from them, Like you don't know how to play? This let
- 31:14me do it type of situations, and so I think there's a lot of
- 31:17things. Once I got older that I was like, no, there are
- 31:21some amazing worlds that I'm just missing out on and just finding the broader network
- 31:27of women who game. Before the Nancy Drew episode, I watched the streamers
- 31:33gab Smolders did all of the Nancy Drew, almost all of the Nancy Drew
- 31:37games entirely start to finish, and I binged it and I was like,
- 31:44oh my gosh, I forgot about this. And so it's just great to
- 31:48engage with the wider gaming world now that I'm a grown up and I don't
- 31:55have to have the ideals of anybody else placed upon me exactly. So yes,
- 32:01i'd be I'd be a dick if I said that wasn't inspiring. That's
- 32:04very inspiring. That's that's good. Then I'll fight you. Like, you
- 32:08know, there's there's this big like speed running community, uh you know throughout
- 32:13you know, Games Done Quick has like multiple events per year. I just
- 32:15found out about last year a group called Frame Fatales and it's an it's an
- 32:21all women speed running group that hosts multiple events and they're awesome. So if
- 32:28you ever want to see women not only playing and enjoying games, but absolutely
- 32:31destroying them, there you go, Frame Fatales shack. It's very good.
- 32:37It's very good. Promise fantastic. I think we're all feeling inspired, right,
- 32:40that was a lot of inspiring stuff from you, all right, that
- 32:44h y'all, as I should start saying, you are in America. My
- 32:49friends make fun of me because I moved from a city in Alberta, Canada,
- 32:52where they speak kind of straight laced to the south and Alberta, and
- 32:55so I've picked up the y'all and they're all just like, oh, y'all,
- 32:59y'all, each and every one of you, what are you up?
- 33:04It's a good easy word. I love a useful term. Exactly. I
- 33:09used a boat the other day, the first time. I'm originally from America.
- 33:14I moved to Canada and I used a boat the other day. And
- 33:16uh, no one has stopped laughing. Ever, oh we all did just
- 33:24stop laughing. Then, I'm sorry, heart of course, of course.
- 33:30Okay, teams, let's boot uPAR rigs are lighting rakes and our Diana riggs
- 33:35as we stream into round one. Round one is our classic trivia game of
- 33:45deliberation, elimination, and deception. I will name a category and then offer
- 33:50each team a list of five things from that category, except I won't because
- 33:54two of them will be incorrect answers. One by one, pairs must select
- 34:00correct answers from the list, scoring a point for each, But select an
- 34:02incorrect answer and you'll be frozen out of your list. Crashed, bricked,
- 34:07obsolete. So we will begin commend dot com strike. I just had my
- 34:21PC break on me. Do not, so it's not good if I say
- 34:24the word bricked. Yeah, please, Okay, okay, what about red
- 34:30Ring of Death? Can we go? That's that's fair? That's consoles they
- 34:34can break. Yeah, screw consoles, we hate them. I begin by
- 34:39naming the category. There'll be a list for each pair. The first category
- 34:44is games that have sold more than five million copies on PC's games that have
- 34:50sold more than five million copies just on PC. I chose this category because
- 34:54gamers like it when big numbers go up. Right, Hey, we will
- 35:00begin with the fourth Street Saints, and here is your list of five games,
- 35:05Spore, the SIMS three, Gary's Mode, roller Coaster, Tycoon,
- 35:13and Powell World. This is gonna be hard and I thought, I don't
- 35:19know what I was expecting. I'm gonna say right off the bat that Spoor
- 35:22definitely didn't sell that many copies. Yeah, I think Spoor was a pretty
- 35:28massive disappointment, So I feel like we can safely say that's probably one of
- 35:31the fake ones. I feel pretty strongly that the SIMS three is going to
- 35:36be correct. That I'm not too sure on because yeah, like, don't
- 35:39get me wrong, it's sold well, but the SIMS four sold better,
- 35:44so I'm not sure how good that good was. Well. Powell World is
- 35:51probably the most recent of them, but it's also pretty populars Yeah, are
- 35:55we still saying Gangbusters? I quite like we can say of Gangbusters? Okay,
- 36:00perfect those copies like hotcakes. Get We're not saying hotcakes. We'll say
- 36:07gang Busters, but we won't say hotcakes. Let's not get crazy. I
- 36:13feel like I got roller Coaster Tycoon in a box of Cereals, So I
- 36:15don't know if that one counts. I think it might, honestly, because
- 36:20I didn't buy someone bought the box of cereal that it came in, so
- 36:23technically my mom was not looking when I put that in the car. What
- 36:31do you want to start with Do you want to start with Power World?
- 36:34Yeah, I'll say that that's that's it. I'm gonna say that's that's all
- 36:37right, But we're both gonna lock in Power World, and you are absolutely
- 36:40correct. Power World, despite being relatively recent, has already sold twelve million
- 36:45copies. Good lord, all right, one down the machine gun. That's
- 36:51a that's all you need. So that's one point you've got. Spare the
- 36:54SIMS three, Gary's Mode and Roller Coaster Tycoon. Gary's MOUD is stupid popular,
- 37:02stupid popular. I'm gonna I think Gary's Mod is the next one.
- 37:05Everyone everyone was in that, all right? You both going with Gary's Mod?
- 37:07Yes, absolutely, Gary's Mod has sold twenty million copies. Okay,
- 37:14so it just comes down to the SIMS three. We're writing off sport.
- 37:16It just comes down to the SIMS three or why can I not remember the
- 37:21other one? And does that mean it's not important? It is? Yes,
- 37:27roller Coaster born here. Roller Coaster Tycoon was really good and a lot
- 37:30of people really loved it, but I don't know that it was as popular
- 37:35as the SIMS. Yeah. This, I feel like the SIMS is one
- 37:39of those games. It's very popular but kind of Niche as well, at
- 37:44least until more recently with EA becoming EA. But I don't know if it
- 37:51was five million popular as opposed to roller poster Tycoon, where everyone and their
- 37:57mom was on the computer playing that in like the nineties. All Right,
- 38:00I'll trust your judgment. You want to go with a roller coaster Tycoon,
- 38:05I might have to. I might have to. All right, let's do
- 38:07it, roller coast going with roller coaster Tycoon. It's not I'm afraid you
- 38:12are frozen out of the list. Roller Coaster Tycoon. It sold four million
- 38:15copies, so very close. It was a tough one. It was.
- 38:23Indeed, the SIMS three yes, sold seven million copies, so less than
- 38:28the previous two. So you were right to be deliberating over those two.
- 38:30Those were the closest to five million. Spore sold one and a half million
- 38:35copies. You were right to point point that one out and eliminate it immediately.
- 38:39But two out of three points for your list. Let's move on over
- 38:43to Fancy Drew and offer the list of five games here. Here they are
- 38:47Minecraft, Armor three, Half Life, Euro Truck Simulator two, and where
- 38:58in the world is Carmen San die Go? Okay, I have no idea
- 39:04what armor three is, so I mean that's not a good sign. Yeah,
- 39:07so we can push that down the list to see if we can get
- 39:12a couple of points before having to make bigger bets. I don't have much
- 39:16knowledge, but I feel like Minecraft is all the kids and also me like
- 39:24Minecraft. Yeah yeah, I think it's sold like three hundred trillion copies or
- 39:29something. So I think we'll just we'll go with Minecraft because I would be
- 39:32extremely surprised secure a point. Yes, you know, lock it down all
- 39:37right? Wouldn't it be strange if it wasn't Minecraft. It is the world?
- 39:42Something would be wrong. Absolutely, thirty three million copies, I believe,
- 39:46seconds of all time, all of Cana. We all bought one.
- 39:51I have multiple copies of I actually do too. I do too, not
- 39:54even a lie After that, I mean it gets a little tricky except euro
- 40:00Truck Simulator. I feel like, I mean, Loveless played it. So
- 40:05it's got to be popular, right. So I did mention my love of
- 40:08niche communities, right because I actually know what Arma three is? Are Arma
- 40:16three? Not? I heard armor three? Okay, that's on me.
- 40:21I know it's on my accent as well, for sure. The wrench in
- 40:25the works of the educational game in there that I don't know if it definitely
- 40:30it's like, oh, yeah, everybody bought their kid that I had two
- 40:32copies of that, But I don't know if I was just an outlier.
- 40:37I mean, like because we're in the world with Karma San Diego, like
- 40:39I feel like everybody had it, But how many people actually had computers back
- 40:44then? Is because I remember Missed made so many sales, but it was
- 40:50still like it sold a million copies and that was a big deal back in
- 40:52the midnight round breaking. Yeah, and so where in the world is Karmasandia.
- 40:57I don't know if are all versions of the game count it or just
- 41:00the original version or the list is according to Wikipedia and Okay said it was
- 41:06just the thing that I remembered was PC copies only, so maybe it could
- 41:09include like multiple versions of the same the same game. I would assume re
- 41:15releases would count, but not like where in Time where in the USA?
- 41:21Sure, I think it would leave those out, but if the if the
- 41:23game was re released later on, it would probably count, yeah, because
- 41:28the re releases aren't remakes. But I feel if there's anything you feel more
- 41:32confident in I will defer to your judgment. Okay, so we had,
- 41:37we had Arma three, we had We're in the world's crmeen Sa Diego.
- 41:42You also have, of course, yeah, Minecraft, you've already got and
- 41:45Half Life and euro Truck Simulator too. Okay, half Life, I feel
- 41:49very strongly is going to be up there at least eight million copies or something.
- 41:53So that's going to be probably our smartest next bet, just to ensure
- 41:58next points. Okay, let's go for that. You're going with half Life.
- 42:01It's not half Life. I'm so sorry you're frozen out of the list.
- 42:06Yeah. I was shocked by this as well, which is why I
- 42:08included it as a little trap. Two million copies sold on p set.
- 42:13Yet how many of you stole their game? I'm calling the police here,
- 42:21you guys steal there. Yeah, so that's that's the end of your runners.
- 42:27The other two games that sold more than five million, Euro Truck Simulator
- 42:31two sold fifteen millions, and there Armor three sold five and a half million,
- 42:39just over the threshold. Where in the world is common? San Diego
- 42:43only sold four million, so only wow, only four I can't believe that
- 42:49was half Like wow? All right, that's okay, we got we got
- 42:52more categories, we got more lists. So moving on to the next category,
- 42:54and the category is Indie game studios. And it's simple. These indie
- 43:00game developers real developers or did I make them up last night? Oh so
- 43:07we will move back on over to the fourth Street Saints. Here is your
- 43:10list of five studios. Hazel Light Studios, Moose Creates, Hello Games,
- 43:20World Works, and Young Horses. Wow, the only one of the things
- 43:24I recognized was Hello Games. Yes, Sam, all right, well we'll
- 43:30take that one, because that's the free point you're going with Hello Games.
- 43:32Yeah, there's the free point. No Man's skye. I think their upcoming
- 43:38game looks super interesting too. Oh yeah, it's like an open world RPG
- 43:45fantasy magical situation and it'll be fantastic three to five years after launch. Absolutely
- 43:52listen man, as long as it becomes a good game at some point,
- 43:54that is true. That's truly impressive how much they put into it to keep
- 43:59it going. We had a lot of fun with Noman Sky recently, me
- 44:01and my friends, we just got back into it again and it was an
- 44:05absolute blast. So hell yes, yeah. Mean dedication is that it's I
- 44:09I appreciate them continuing to put in the work. As far as the other
- 44:14ones, Hazel Light, Moose Creates, I'm not feeling confident. No,
- 44:22you've just got weld Works and Young Horses. I feel like weld Works sounds
- 44:28like a real one. I'm like gaming the game here, and this has
- 44:32backfired on me in the past. But Young Horses sound so ridiculous as a
- 44:37name that it almost has to be real. I got us locked out last
- 44:44time. So I'll let you make the big choice. All right, I'm
- 44:45gonna I'm gonna, I'm gonna strike for it. I'm gonna try for young
- 44:49Horses. You going for young Horses? Yeah, this is a real studio,
- 44:52the Octo Dad and bug Snacks. I should have known that. See
- 45:00I didn't play either of those. Okay, So all we've got lefter Hazel
- 45:05Light Studios, Moose Creates, and Wild Works. Yes, indeed, none
- 45:14of them sound familiar to me, and none of them jump out at me
- 45:15as being like gamey answers, unlike young voices. So if you really think
- 45:22World Works is a thing, I'll go with that. Choices, I trust
- 45:30your judgment. Don't do that. That's a terrible choice. Oh God,
- 45:36that's next thing. You know. I'm gonna be like, yeah, bro,
- 45:37you should definitely invest man getting a crypto, dude, It's getting like,
- 45:43it's amazing the moon Man. Take listen. I'm highly impressionable and you've
- 45:52already invested Chambers here spend money to make money. Thanks, Joe. You
- 46:02just want to go with world Works, you said, so, I'll let's
- 46:07let's take a shot. All right, you're going with world Works. It
- 46:10is not world Works. They are they are a brewery here in Colorado.
- 46:16I know, well now that everyone knows I'm an alcoholic. Is it Moose
- 46:23Creates. It's not Moose Creates Creates. I was like, if I could
- 46:31pick one of the two, I would have gone with Moose Creates because I'm
- 46:34like, yeah, you're gonna remember that Studios made Hazel like studios they did.
- 46:39It takes two couch co op multiplayers. It's so fun. So now
- 46:45let's have a list of five indie games for fancy Drew looking again, some
- 46:50more points on the board. Here is your list of five studios. Super
- 46:53Giant Games, Big dev Giant, Squid, Night School Studio, and Delightful
- 47:01Sausage. I'm not allowed to speak. I think I know all three.
- 47:13Oh no, I do not think I know all three. Yeah, And
- 47:17I was feeling so confident because I knew too of theirs. Oh yeah,
- 47:22that why, that's why I didn't give them. So I was like,
- 47:27maybe I know more than I think I do. I don't. Yeah,
- 47:30based on instinct, Giant Giant, super Giant. That sounds familiar. But
- 47:37I mean, I'm not a big indie game player. I'm mostly stick to
- 47:40the old stuff, so it's it's hard for me to say, honestly,
- 47:45we can go with one on you since neither of us. Okay, I
- 47:49got it wrong last time, so I think it's true, girls, time
- 47:52to go for something. Gosh. Then that means do I go with the
- 48:00one that you thought because you? I mean, oh, now, it
- 48:06is one of the ones that I thought was in my top two, So
- 48:10we will go with the super You going with super Giant Games Giant, Absolutely,
- 48:15that's a point. Super Giant Games is real. They made Hades.
- 48:19Oh that's where I've seen yep. As for the other ones, I mean,
- 48:22I'm really not sure what was the second one we were thinking. I
- 48:25thought World Works might be one just because of like back of the mind memory
- 48:30of no that's a brewery here in Colorado, but I don't know where.
- 48:36Delightful Sausage. I was like, that's a thing that has like stuck in
- 48:38the back of my mind. So that is something whether it is an indie
- 48:43gamers studio or not. I'll mention at this point where husband and wife.
- 48:46Yeah, according to my lawyer again not allowed to speak. I'm trying to
- 48:55not make him say them all over again. Kind if you'd liked you one
- 48:59more time more time, Yep, you've got big, dev giant squid,
- 49:04night School Studio and Delightful Sausage. I also feel like Night School Studio feels
- 49:09like a thing of like people were working a job and then went to night
- 49:13school, figured out how to make games, and then made games. That
- 49:15sounds very realistic, Okay, I mean, if we're gonna go off,
- 49:19I feel like going off on Delightful Sausage would be it would be it would
- 49:23be a fun oneted yeah to lose on all right, you're going for Delightful
- 49:29Sausage for the joke, for the law. Delightful Sausage is not. I'm
- 49:36so sorry. They are a combat duo from the UK. Oh, Aaron,
- 49:39I think I know what The other two are I think their Night School
- 49:43Studio and Giant Squid. Absolutely those are the other two. I won't give
- 49:47you a Night School. Night School did Oxen free that is correct, what
- 49:58Giant Squid did, and the Pathless and the upcoming Sword of the Sea.
- 50:02I think of okay, buzz heading into their third game. I think Big
- 50:07Dev was made up fair enough. I knew that, all right. One
- 50:14last category in this round, we're kind of going back to a similar thing
- 50:17from the first category, but specifically something that two members of this call should
- 50:22have some knowledge about, maybe even three actually with what Aaron has revealed.
- 50:28So I am looking for gog dot com top selling games of all time,
- 50:34so not including DLC or expansions of any kind as of yesterday, Which games
- 50:39appear on the first page or the top forty eight best selling games on gog
- 50:46dot com, and all of the incorrect answers will be placed fifty one through
- 50:52ninety six on that list, so you they will also be there. You
- 50:58not delightful sausage. So I thought this would please everyone. Wicked wiener Umbridge
- 51:08inducing. Okay, so the brought worst it was worth it. The Fourth
- 51:15Street Saints, here is your list. Of five games fall Out New Vegas,
- 51:22Pharaoh and Cleopatra, Star Wars, Battlefront two, Knox, and The
- 51:29Witcher Too Assassins of Kings Knox. I don't think sold as well. For
- 51:35sure. It's one of the ones I've had my eye on, but when
- 51:37I've seen people play it, the viewership isn't like super high. So it's
- 51:42just one of the ones I want to play, but I don't think I
- 51:44have because like the control scheme is weird and I need to like mentally prepare
- 51:47myself. So I'm going to say that's not on the list, Yeah,
- 51:52or at least tie up on the list. Yeah. I feel like Witcher
- 51:57two could be. I know it. It's not as big as sellers,
- 52:00which you're three. The only other one I've got feelings about is Pharaoh and
- 52:07Cleopatra is stupidly popular, even though it's not my kind of game and I
- 52:10didn't know it existed, But I know a lot of people really dig that
- 52:16game and that it is constantly high up on the sales shirts despite my still
- 52:22to this day, continuing to be completely ignorant of it. Fallout New Vegas
- 52:28feels like a gimme. Yeah, I feel like that's definitely high r on
- 52:31the list. That's the closest thing to something I'm confident in. Mm hmmm.
- 52:37Do you agree the Star Wars agreed? Yeah. The Star Wars one
- 52:40I think also sold really well, but I don't know if it's sold as
- 52:45well enough to be in the top of e tippity top top No, especially
- 52:49because the others are just on the second page. I am a bast that
- 52:54you are. I fall Out New Vegas. Do you think in let's reach
- 53:00for that one, Let's go for that. Absolutely, fall Out You Vegas
- 53:04was very high up on that list, if not first, it was top
- 53:07row, very very popular. I think the Witcher two might actually be a
- 53:13red herring. I don't. I don't feel like the Witcher two sold as
- 53:16well as one and three. Well, I know it didn't sell as well
- 53:20as three. Three sold like Young Blusters. Three is absolutely on there can
- 53:23say that if it's on your second list, I apologize and you're welcome three
- 53:31points. Laos probably knows anyway, But why is Pharaoh and Cleopatra there?
- 53:39I'm gonna say that's on the front page. I'm going to go with you.
- 53:44I'm going to go with you on that you're both saying Pharaoh and Cleopatra
- 53:49it is. Yeah, absolutely, it is all that. Yeah, I
- 53:52still don't know why it's. I feel like it's a super popular or super
- 53:55popular in Eastern Europe, and I'm not sure exactly why, but it's It's
- 53:59one of those gay that I'd never heard of before I got to Gog,
- 54:01and I feel like a lot of the games that are like that are the
- 54:04ones that were like German City Builders or something else that like all the Polish
- 54:07people loved for whatever reason, because Gog is Polish, the Polish people,
- 54:12you know, it just all comes together. So no perfect. I played
- 54:15this one as a kid. I remember playing Pharaoh and Cleopatra. I loved
- 54:19it. I played the what was it Zeus and Poseidon version and yeah,
- 54:23city building lovely stuff. Anyway, it was nice to see a game that
- 54:28I'd not thought about in twenty years just there was probably right now you should
- 54:31just go mind. Is it available for Mac? It might be actually actually
- 54:37games on Dog are are Mac compatible as well? Nice? Nice? You
- 54:42have one correct answer remaining on that list, which three games Boks Witcher two
- 54:47and Star Wars Battlefront two. I'm going to say Star Wars Battlefront two.
- 54:54No, I was gonna say, you don't think it's a red hearing,
- 54:57because I think it might be. Should we go with the Witcher? If
- 55:00I had wrote, if I had written this list, out of those three,
- 55:04the correct answer would be knocks, I don't think it's not on.
- 55:07The other two would be red herrings designed to make you think they're going to
- 55:10be up there. All right, we'll go with your suggestion. No heard
- 55:17you write books so much conviction of this is what I do. Let's go
- 55:24with it. No, Baron and I both make these kinds of games on
- 55:30the RECU list, so you'd think it would be easier, but it actually
- 55:32gets more confusing. Is genuinely more confusing. Do you do you want to
- 55:37go with your PC gaming gut or my my gaming about PC gaming gut?
- 55:47I don't know. Like, like I said, I don't really think it's
- 55:50the Witcher too, because I don't think that one sells as well as the
- 55:52other two. And with the Star Wars battle Front, I know that's multiplayer
- 55:58and that doesn't tend to sell games. No, No, on god,
- 56:01my gut's saying Knox is on page two. But I could be wrong because
- 56:06I feel like Actually, when I do open the page, I feel like
- 56:08I see knocks a lot o. Listen, we've taken way too much time
- 56:10already, and and we've gotten two points already. So if we don't get
- 56:16the third, big whoop, let's let's let's go with my my guts.
- 56:23Gaming MAT's the game master, and I'm gonna say Knox all right, going
- 56:29with knocks. It's not Knocks. Knoxes is on page two. It was
- 56:34the Witch of to Assassins of Wow. Okay, the one we'd both written
- 56:38off. You've both written it off. Yeah. Yeah. Even though it
- 56:43didn't sell as well as Witch or three, it's still sold pretty well.
- 56:45I never played that one, so I I like, watched someone play and
- 56:49I was like, yeah, you play that game, and then I never
- 56:51with you. I honestly like two better than the first one. I didn't
- 56:54like the first one all that much. It was I didn't get too far
- 56:58in the first one. It was very complicated and kind of unwieldy. But
- 57:00the second one was a little bit more. It was a little bit more
- 57:04user friendly. It was sort of consoleized because they planned on bringing it to
- 57:07consoles anyway, so but that also made it easier to play and in my
- 57:12mind easier to enjoy. But anyway, you're there, so two points on
- 57:15that list. Another good showing. We'll take the fourth street thinks. The
- 57:19final list of the round for Fancy Drew. Here it is your list of
- 57:22gog dot com best selling games. The Elder Scrolls three morrowind Doom, Stronghold,
- 57:30HD, Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic, and Cyberpunk twenty
- 57:37seventy seven. Well, I mean, Cyberpunk should be a gimme, but
- 57:42because it's been on that best selling list for a long time. But whether
- 57:45if it's on the all time list is the quest question? Is it a
- 57:49trick? I don't know. I'm almost afraid other ones that feel like they
- 57:55would be higher up, just because if they've made it to my knowledge as
- 58:01prevalent, than they probably aren't. Like Doom has made it to my knowledge
- 58:06as a prevalent game. So that's another one probably that I'd put up there
- 58:13in my instinct or any I know. There's a lot of tracks and traps
- 58:16and tricks that are being played. Do any of these feel like a gimme?
- 58:21Well, that's the issue. They all strongholds, Well, strongholds probably
- 58:27the answer right. I feel like Knights of the Old Republic is just one
- 58:34of those games that everyone owns. It's another one that has made it to
- 58:37my knowledge. So you're going with Knights of the Old Republic, let's do
- 58:43it. It is correct. That is on the first page of gog dot
- 58:50com games. And then I feel like Cyberpunk. If I was going to
- 58:54go between my two options, I probably of my two instincts, i'd probably
- 58:58go for Cyberpunk just because of the recency and so like, it doesn't need
- 59:06as much of enduring. Yeah, no, no selections. So if I
- 59:13was gonna rank my two instincts, it would be that do without what you
- 59:16will. Okay, I think that's pretty strong. Marrowin, I mean,
- 59:22Maro wins such a good game. Apparently I've never played it because I'm a
- 59:23heathen, but it's it's it's supposed to be a good game. Doom.
- 59:29I'm not sure about it. I mean, it's it's extremely popular, but
- 59:31it was late coming to gog and it would already been on Steam for a
- 59:35long time, so I'm not sure. See this is the insider information.
- 59:40This is this. Yeah, it couldn't just be like here's a mite Magic
- 59:43three because that's been the top seller for like a decade at least. Again,
- 59:47let's stop, let's go Cyberpunk. Cyberpunk twenty seventy seven. Cyberpunk twenty
- 59:52seventy seven is a top seven game. Yes, absolutely, there's a points.
- 59:58There's just one more left to find. Morrowind Doom and Stronghold HD.
- 1:00:05I'm kind of I've kind of mentally eliminated Dune since Doom Doom. I called
- 1:00:10it Dune. It's fine. We watched Dune last night, mentally eliminated Doom
- 1:00:16since it was late. Okay, So I feel like that's what he was
- 1:00:21going for. I think if I if like instinct, says Marlwind Gaming Gaming
- 1:00:27says Stronghold, which which one? Which one? Do you think the first
- 1:00:30one? Just because of the context of the episode in that it has been
- 1:00:34mentioned as a loved game, So go for Elder Scrolls. Elder Scrolls,
- 1:00:39Moral Wind Wind, You're going for the Elder Scrolls. Mara Winds to be
- 1:00:45the first team in this round to complete a list full list of three Yes.
- 1:00:51No, would you have managed to achieve Yes? If you would have
- 1:00:57dangled that, and then we would have been wrong. I would have been
- 1:01:02all right, that's the end of round one. Better get my sixty four
- 1:01:06gigabytes of RAM to calculate the latest scores. A calculator only needs eight killerbytes
- 1:01:13of RAM. But it's nice to know I've got the memory. Yes,
- 1:01:15you can run sixty four million calculators if we need. I'll still cast because
- 1:01:23we have the Fourth Street Saints on six points in the lead, but just
- 1:01:28behind them on five points is Fancy Drew. Well done up. Next is
- 1:01:34round two, but first we have to play some commercials. They'll either be
- 1:01:37for a new graphics card and energy drink, or recruiting you into the military
- 1:01:40at a time where we're inching ever closer to a global conflict. Try not
- 1:01:45to panic back soon. Round two is our improv round, and it's called
- 1:01:54stream of Consciousness. I have sent each of our players a list of seven
- 1:01:59video games. In turn, our players will have two minutes to communicate as
- 1:02:04many of those games to their teammate as possible without saying any of the words
- 1:02:08in the title of the games. And I'd like our communicators to communicate as
- 1:02:15though they are streaming the game, kind of doing commentary over the top of
- 1:02:17it, or describing what they're doing, or just chatting casually to their audience
- 1:02:22about the game. As long as you don't use any of the words in
- 1:02:24the title of the video game, I will allow it. The person who's
- 1:02:28guessing, you're allowed to pass and just like move on to the next one
- 1:02:30and get that person to act out and perform a different game. But the
- 1:02:36idea is that you've got to try and get through as many as possible within
- 1:02:39two minutes to score as many points. Any questions, any question does the
- 1:02:45list? Does it have to be consecutive in the way that it was written
- 1:02:49in the list? Or are going to be any game? You can do
- 1:02:52it in any order? Yeah, you can pick the order that you do
- 1:02:54in I'm going to make it unnecessarily harder on myself and do it pyramid style.
- 1:02:59So I am going to in order, Okayne, if only because the
- 1:03:02last one seems next to impossible. But we'll get there. So it will
- 1:03:08be Aaron going first, and it will be Lovelust guessing on the fly.
- 1:03:15So as soon as you know Lovelust, just just shout out the game as
- 1:03:16soon as you know what Aaron is talking about, and Aaron can move on
- 1:03:20to the next one. Right, I'm ready, all Right, Aaron,
- 1:03:23I will start the timer as soon as you start talking. I just shouted
- 1:03:28those skeleton nurtures off a cliff, thank you. Yeah, man. I
- 1:03:34I'm no good at getting these creatures to get themselves to the exit, but
- 1:03:38I enjoy watching them all explodes. And you know, these these creatures aren't
- 1:03:44exactly like they're they're They're told like it was all came from a bad Disney
- 1:03:49documentary that claimed they did this thing, but they don't. Uh. And
- 1:03:53I can make them have ladders and i can make them dig ditches, but
- 1:03:57I'm just no good at this, so I'm gonna pass. Hey, I've
- 1:04:01got my own farm here and I'm gonna grow some rude begas. I've cleared
- 1:04:04out some trees and uh, I'm so glad that this uh, this legacy
- 1:04:12uh homage tow Harvest Moon came out when it did, and I'm glad the
- 1:04:15guy has made a ton of money off it started Valiant. Yes, yes,
- 1:04:20okay, So I'm gonna go with the og mod that that allows me
- 1:04:24to break into people's apartments easier. I've never been much on the run and
- 1:04:29gun aspect of this game, but I love doing the stealth uh and the
- 1:04:33uh. And Paul Denton, I mean he's a he's a just a cracking
- 1:04:39character for a guy who has a monotone voice. And uh, this is
- 1:04:42the game of the Year edition of this is fantastic. It's got everything.
- 1:04:46Did you know it's uh, it's the title is Latin for God out of
- 1:04:51and I assume it meant got out of the machine, but it only did
- 1:04:54the first two decent Thank you, nice nice. This This is a this
- 1:05:00is more like Fallout four than I thought. But it's it's got this really
- 1:05:02futuristic, uh anti corporation vibe that I really dig. It's really colorful and
- 1:05:09uh and it's just uh, really exciting to shoot everything, all these strange
- 1:05:14alien creatures. Uh and you know, take quests and so forth. Ten
- 1:05:18seconds and uh and uh these uh these Spacer's choice your time from the thing.
- 1:05:29But this, Aaron, do you want to reveal what it What it
- 1:05:33was? It was the outer worlds, right, I was like, yes,
- 1:05:38spacers. And the one, the one with the creatures I was trying
- 1:05:42to get you to get earlier was Lemmings. Oh see I never played that
- 1:05:45one Classic Vintage and we didn't have time to get to a to a couple
- 1:05:51of others. God, I was not looking forward to listen to this Chest
- 1:05:57Titans for Windows seven. When I was younger, maybe that was probably in
- 1:06:02a university. I remember trying to play that online because you could play online
- 1:06:04in Chest Titans, I think, and I use like a cheat. Oh
- 1:06:09no, you know what. I used it to try and cheat on like
- 1:06:11chest dot com or something when I was younger. So I would put their
- 1:06:14move into cheat chest don't cheat. Don't cheat, it's bad. Yeah,
- 1:06:19never get caught cheating kids, especially not on chest dot com. They will
- 1:06:24come true. You You got to use beads and never mind. Yeah,
- 1:06:29that's the way, that's how you cheat. I've literally been taught chess four
- 1:06:32different times for separate occasions. I remember in the moment and as soon as
- 1:06:36I get up from the chess tea table, it is deleted from my brain,
- 1:06:41deleted. Post Queen scamp it, I got so deep into like chess,
- 1:06:46like chest streaming, like I was watching everything that I can. Hey,
- 1:06:51but you got three out of seven games. I think that's pretty good
- 1:06:55considering how chaotic this mode of describing games. Yeah. Uh so we'll move
- 1:07:00on over to Fancy Drew now and it's gonna be Oldra the Flayoffs. Are
- 1:07:06you ready Oldra? Yeah, I'm just gonna be thrown out as much information
- 1:07:15as I know about any of these games. Absolutely, I will start the
- 1:07:18tim as soon as you start talking. So I'm playing the second game in
- 1:07:23this title series. I think it's related to Half Life. I'm not sure.
- 1:07:26I'm just starting it up. I know there's there's guns that are gonna
- 1:07:31take me from one place to another. Yes, cool, awesome. You
- 1:07:36know I'm gonna switch to a different game this game. Cool, don't laugh.
- 1:07:45Oh shit, switching to a different game. This one was recommended to
- 1:07:48me by a great streamer. Go check out Lovelust. She used to play
- 1:07:53it Marwin at her at her school. One of the first games that she
- 1:07:59used to play. That isn't that one? It is like an average of
- 1:08:03like Kingdoms, this one. I so excited about this game. Retro vibe
- 1:08:10but it's modern. It's a There's this guy and his noggin is a jug.
- 1:08:17Uh So this this game. They just made a HBO series about this
- 1:08:29specific exeption and it's Pedro. Pascal has to transport a young girl across the
- 1:08:38nation and they are what am I talking about I'm sorry, the last of
- 1:08:43us and it's not the second one I'll give I'll give it. It's just
- 1:08:46a specific I'll give you the last. Ye forgot the I'm so excited to
- 1:08:53be delving into dad games as I have my foot pedals and my joystick and
- 1:08:59I'm going to soar across the sky fifteen seconds mm in uh flight simular,
- 1:09:08Microsoft light simular. Okay, yeah, nice Microsoft Flight simulator. A good
- 1:09:12stuff. This is I'm going to play a traditional arcade style game on my
- 1:09:18that's your time, that's your time. Hey you got you got five?
- 1:09:23That was pretty good girl. Yeah, it's a powerful cheer. I just
- 1:09:30know that I'm going to be better at describing them based on vibes then I
- 1:09:35probably will be at guessing them. So I was trying to get I was
- 1:09:40trying to get as many as possible. That was a good job for both
- 1:09:42of you that I particularly liked. What was it? A jug knocking?
- 1:09:50That was very good. Okay, back on over to the Fourth Street Saints.
- 1:09:55This time it is Lovelust who is going to be describing those games without
- 1:09:59saying titles for Aaron, Are you ready, Lovelust? Nope, let's do
- 1:10:03it. Fantastic. I will start your two minutes when you start talking.
- 1:10:09All right. So this one is one of those boomer shooters all the kids
- 1:10:13are crazy about. Yes, let's see. This one is a really great
- 1:10:20role playing game in space where you they made a big production about your choices
- 1:10:28matter and I hate this driving section. Why is it in here? Really
- 1:10:32don't like it? Let's ask it's a different planet. Yes, yes,
- 1:10:35mass effect. This time we're hanging out in a basement. I'm shooting things
- 1:10:42out of my eyeballs. My mom's super weird. The oh god, the
- 1:10:47binding of Isaac. Yes, yes, it's nice. So this one we're
- 1:10:53going to actually hang out online. You can play the story mode. Everyone's
- 1:10:57really crazy about the horses testicles. For some reason, I prefer to play
- 1:11:00online. Yeah, yeah, there we go. Sorry, sorry, this
- 1:11:10one is a lot newer, but everyone's like, oh, you died,
- 1:11:14okay, fine whatever. I'm just gonna play with my magic character and I
- 1:11:18am going to die a lot, and then we're going to challenge all these
- 1:11:24big bosses and just look at pretty trees. And there's a big yellow tree
- 1:11:30for some reason, who who thought that was a great idea? Yes?
- 1:11:35Nice? All right, So this one. We're going super old school.
- 1:11:41You have to click on these things and try not to blow up. Blow
- 1:11:45up. Yeah, yo, mind sweet thoughts. You have one game left
- 1:11:48to get uh oh uh. This one is another really classic RPG. Uh
- 1:11:55just had like a super huge revival with the newest game in the series wasn't
- 1:11:59made by their original makers though. And you make your character you wander around
- 1:12:03Fay run super awesome. I love it, Bard Sale, it's not and
- 1:12:11that's your time. I'm so sorry about hey six six out of seven.
- 1:12:15I was very nervous about that. You did amazing love lust. Yeah,
- 1:12:21I like sutally spoiled it. I feel bad, No, no, no
- 1:12:26no, it wasted about the writ right amount of time, me asking I
- 1:12:29need to hear time balder skate, Oh, son of a I'll cliff that
- 1:12:39reaction, Aaron, that was priceless. Okay, I should have I should
- 1:12:44have got that. I've spent a lot of m We're all team Halson,
- 1:12:50right, Allison's great, Alison's fantastic. I don't so when you said and
- 1:12:56that was like absolutely yes, right, I'm an Asterian boy, Yeah you
- 1:13:00would be. That's fine. I like Turtles. It's okay. We got
- 1:13:10Lazell just for you. Yes, okay, we have one final list in
- 1:13:16this round, and is of course the final combination. It is Flaos for
- 1:13:20Audra. Are you both ready sure? Yes? Okaylos, I will start
- 1:13:25the time of whenever you're whenever you start talking. Oh, this is a
- 1:13:28beautiful metropol. What disasters? Godzilla? Oh shit, be close, close,
- 1:13:36almost there. I I am so panicky. Okay, yeah, Breath
- 1:13:47of the Wild. Okay, let's let's just move on. Let's move on
- 1:13:50to okay. Oh, this is the greatest single player game of all time.
- 1:13:55It came with Windows. I just play my cards, right and I
- 1:13:59just solitary. Yes, it's cool. I'd play for the Horde. This
- 1:14:04is the greatest MMO of all time. I've sung Literal of war Craft.
- 1:14:10Yes, oh, it's another game from the same developers, Tracer. You
- 1:14:14gotta go mid shoot them down. I don't know how this game goes.
- 1:14:19I don't know who it's Blizzard? Uh does that one? I don't know.
- 1:14:26I don't know. Uh shoot me, hello, BioShock on are the
- 1:14:33shooty ones that people shooting? Wow? This was such a great Netflix series,
- 1:14:41at least maybe the first season was. But I prefer witch. I
- 1:14:45prefer this game. It's it's it's not the first or the second of the
- 1:14:48series, but it's man roach stop three. Yeah, I'll give you.
- 1:14:57Oh. Zombies are everywhere. It's a multi player game. I love playing
- 1:15:00this with my friends. There's multiple of us. And it's even in the
- 1:15:04title God Jesus Fucking Christ, undead killing killing so close slaying the zombies five
- 1:15:18slang would be something similar to its name, but I feel like that's pretty
- 1:15:21much cheating at this point. So we'll just five seconds slash other gilt,
- 1:15:29all right, that's eat them up. I would be so much better at
- 1:15:35describing, and so I just was like, I'm so sorry, deliberate so
- 1:15:44that my laughter would not interrupt like it did last time. And oh my
- 1:15:47god, you got you got three though, I mean that's I feel like
- 1:15:51that's pretty good. That's pretty good. From the wedding. Can you just
- 1:15:55come be like the blind interpreter, describe, would you see? I think
- 1:16:00it'll be amazing. Zodies everywhere. Left for dead because for those playing at
- 1:16:10home, the games were sim City. I don't remember that was left for
- 1:16:14Dead overwatched. I should have known that one because I was, yeah,
- 1:16:21it's fine, and there was one that I had no idea exactly how to
- 1:16:25explain it if you had not played it before, which is Unpacking, which
- 1:16:27I hear is a wonderful game, but I've never Yeah, I have it.
- 1:16:35Okay, you probably would have got out there. Shoot, but you
- 1:16:39did. You got World of Warcraft, you got Witch three, and you
- 1:16:41got Solitaire, so you know. Yeah, all right, that's the end
- 1:16:45of the round. Let's get Reddit to crowdsource the latest scores, and those
- 1:16:50scores are fancy Drew are on thirteen points, but the Fourth Street Saints are
- 1:16:55still in the lead with fifteen points. Oh it's club keeping a day.
- 1:17:01Round three next after these commercials, think of them as a loading screen for
- 1:17:05the next round. Round three is our fandom round, and it's called letting
- 1:17:15off some steam. In turn, I will read our team's genuine negative video
- 1:17:21game reviews written on the popular store Slash free consumer feedback matrix Steam. Each
- 1:17:30each look consumers just do marketing on behalf of the companies. Now it's weird.
- 1:17:35Each review is three sentences long, and I'll read them one sentence at
- 1:17:40a time. If a pair names the game after one sentence, they get
- 1:17:44three points two sentences two points and three sentences one point. But you're also
- 1:17:49allowed to make one guess after each sentence regardless, you're allowed just a free
- 1:17:54guess as to what that game might be. Yeah, that's it. That's
- 1:17:57what I've got in the That's what I've written as the description. Any any
- 1:18:00more questions makes sense? I think we're good to go. All right,
- 1:18:04So we will begin with the fourth Street Saints. Here is your first sentence
- 1:18:10of your first game review. The loading screen is longer than the entire lifetime
- 1:18:15of the universe. Wow, it could literally be anything. I mean,
- 1:18:23given given the I mean, I'm inclined to try for No Man's Sky here,
- 1:18:30I'm gonna guess because, like when you first jump into that game,
- 1:18:33the loading scrine is long and it does include the entire universe. So that's
- 1:18:41fair. You're throwing out No Man's Sky and Fallout seventy six. It's not
- 1:18:44either of those, but good, good guests. Do we each get a
- 1:18:46guess? Yeah? Why not? It's do you know this is gonna be
- 1:18:49a really difficult game? And the idea is that no one gets it on
- 1:18:53the first and it's just a really silly, out of context thing. Huh.
- 1:18:57So, yeah, we'll say, we'll say each each player gets a
- 1:19:00guess, So I'll move on to the next sentence. Single player is great
- 1:19:04online? Is trash? Loading? Loading, loading, failed to join session
- 1:19:11again? That could be so many things. It still could be quite a
- 1:19:15few things. Yeah, well, we know that single player isn't always online,
- 1:19:19at least if they're not having a loading issue. Yeah, sad it
- 1:19:24has both. Yeah, that's what I was leaning towards. Was one of
- 1:19:29the new Call of Duty's problem is I don't know Call of Duty well enough
- 1:19:32to say which one do you want to throw single player anymore? Like?
- 1:19:36Is that even a thing? I don't even know. I know that the
- 1:19:41like more Modern Warfare two remastered, which did come with single players, So
- 1:19:46that'll be my guest Call of Duty Modern Warfare two. All right? Do
- 1:19:49you want to throw out a different Call of Duty? Loved us to?
- 1:19:54You don't have to, I don't. I don't know the names of the
- 1:19:56Call of Duties. It's probably for the bad yeah you yeah, sure,
- 1:20:05we'll do Call of Duty the other one I love. I love playing that.
- 1:20:11Yeah, again, good guesses. I like where you're thinking, But
- 1:20:15no, I will read the final sentence now for one point welcome to Los
- 1:20:20Santos when ninety nine of the population are hackers. Yeah, GTA five,
- 1:20:28It is GTA five. Indeed, the loading screen is longer than the entire
- 1:20:31lifetime of the year. I love how they exaggerate. It's so good my
- 1:20:36favorite thing about being online, truly. That is one point there. We'll
- 1:20:42move on over to Fancy Drew. Here is the first sentence of your first
- 1:20:45review, dying and losing all XP. My XP is now gone and lost
- 1:20:50forever and cannot be found. Stupid game. I mean this sounds like Minecraft,
- 1:20:58but that's not on steams. I feel like getting it on the first
- 1:21:04one is so unlikely. We can throw out, yeah, she says,
- 1:21:10and then does anything. Balder skates three. All right, two good names
- 1:21:15to throw out there, but it's not either of those. So I'll move
- 1:21:17on to the next sentence. So close to the original game that they reintroduced
- 1:21:23bugs that were fixed in the Prepare to Die edition. Oh no, I
- 1:21:30know I know this, but I can't find the memory. Ye that is
- 1:21:31this podcast? Yeah? Good needs some guesses? Good need you throw out?
- 1:21:40Because Prepared to Die just makes me think of Princess Bride. No,
- 1:21:46I won't waste it on a job, Higo Montoya's Revenge. It's a sequel,
- 1:21:56right, so it's Princess bride To's Revenge. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:22:00it's like get no, Now, I'll go for another game that is
- 1:22:05real Starfield. We haven't mentioned Starfield. Sure, that's not gonna be here.
- 1:22:14I'm so embarrassed because I know, I know, I can't remember.
- 1:22:15I'll just say Fallowout three, Prepared to Die Edition, Prepared to Die Ed.
- 1:22:23It's not either of those. I'll move on to the final sentence.
- 1:22:27Cont Sex with Gwinevilla zero out of ten remaster. So Gwenevere, Knights of
- 1:22:32the round Table thing Knights that I know? Yes, uh, Lancelot,
- 1:22:42Arthur Green Knight, that other guy, the Brave Robin of course, Sir
- 1:22:48Robin. So you're going for the brave, brave robbing the game? No,
- 1:22:54you know I've got I've got more things to say. Well, my
- 1:22:57teammates an answer, No, they fight a sphinx. I know a lot
- 1:23:02of stuff about the round Table. If you'll a mythology eventually, I'm sure
- 1:23:12I'm gonna have to time you out. I think, guys, yeah,
- 1:23:14King's Court if you want to throw out a guess King's Court. That's what
- 1:23:19I'm going to Yeah, a Darcel's two, that's what it is, had
- 1:23:27to be. Yeah, yeah, Darsal's one when it came out for PC
- 1:23:30was called the Prepared to Die Edition. That's thank you. Uh yeah,
- 1:23:38it was indeed doc Cels. But hey, look we've got more reviews.
- 1:23:41Let's see how this goes. So moving back on over to the Fourth Street
- 1:23:45Saints, here is your first sentence. It is a torture test for the
- 1:23:49games industry to see how much BS we are willing to put up with with
- 1:23:54these garbage companies milking us all. Can I just say Ubisoft or actually this
- 1:24:02is clearly an additional unnecessary sequel. But the question is which one? Mm,
- 1:24:10I'm gonna say Assassin's Creed, Like, what's what's the newest one?
- 1:24:15Oh god, I don't even know. Mirage, Assassin's creat Mirage the one
- 1:24:25with I'll go with sim City four, sim City four. It's neither of
- 1:24:30those, but I like the guesses. It's good to mention more games on
- 1:24:33the PC Gaming episode. Sure, here is your next sentence. This is
- 1:24:39game cub Graphics. Stealth is abysmal, and once you understand the AI movements,
- 1:24:45you will notice they are all the same. You may have been closer
- 1:24:48with that Assassin's Creed than you thought, So you're guessing the modern Thief remake.
- 1:24:55Yeah, the UI that wasn't you be soft? That was square Enix.
- 1:25:00Yeah hmm, And I'm gonna go with Assassin's Creed origins. I'm sticking
- 1:25:04with the Assassin's Creed. Thief is a good guess, but it's not Thief.
- 1:25:09I will say with you guesses, you're you're getting closer. You're getting
- 1:25:11closer. Here's your final sentence. They takes it from us, precious Trixie
- 1:25:16Hobbits is stolen money er. That new Gollumn, the god Awful one.
- 1:25:26It is indeed that it is the Lord of the Rings Gollum for a point,
- 1:25:29that God Awful edition as well. I knew there was a new one,
- 1:25:34but I didn't know what it was called. So I'm just like,
- 1:25:36uh, yeah, they went for like a stealth Assassin's Creed kind of thing,
- 1:25:43bit platformer and it looked bad. A nice clever one at the end
- 1:25:46there, but I like how over dramatic. The first sentence of each one
- 1:25:48is okay, very good. Back on over to Fancy Drew here is your
- 1:25:55first sentence, redemption arc. It is possible to be lied at by a
- 1:26:00company in a way that is basically almost on a crime level. And lawyer
- 1:26:10said that sentence is perfect. No notes the last day? No, what
- 1:26:15was that? What was that? Zombie? One? That isn't last of
- 1:26:20us uses the same plant? Yeah, no more guys, you're going with
- 1:26:32no more guys. The XX chromosome simulator actually sounds pretty awesome. It's it's
- 1:26:43not it's not no more guys. But if you can rack your brain for
- 1:26:47what the title of that game would be, there could be some points in
- 1:26:51this. So here is the second sentence. Derivative concept art. I laughed
- 1:26:59from the moment the game started to the moment I got a refund two days
- 1:27:02later. What is a game called? I know how to say derivative,
- 1:27:06by the way, that's just how they spell. I also know you know
- 1:27:10how to say GameCube, but I didn't. These are game cup graphics.
- 1:27:17I had no idea what that was even meaning. I was so lost.
- 1:27:21I was like, what's a game? Cub told me about this? Sounds
- 1:27:28cut? Is it something like the next day? The next day? Sounds
- 1:27:30good? Is that what it is? It's You're so close, but it's
- 1:27:34not it. You are so close, and I just can't give you the
- 1:27:38point. I mean, I'll read the last the last sentence to see if
- 1:27:42that helps buyers. Beware, this is not an open world survival mmo.
- 1:27:47This is a small area extraction shooter. I feel so cruel because I know,
- 1:27:55you know, the day after is that what it's called? You know,
- 1:27:58because it's just now for one point, what if something wasn't was the
- 1:28:01opposite of after the day before? For that? But one one, thank
- 1:28:11you, thank you. I'll take it. Okay, I've got one more
- 1:28:15review left for each team. We are moving back on over to the Fourth
- 1:28:19Street Saints. Here is your last review and the first sentence of that review.
- 1:28:25Did you think remastered would give you full HD backgrounds? Well, you
- 1:28:29might be a disappoint just one. My father says, again, that could
- 1:28:40literally be anything. It's got to be a remaster that wasn't particularly good.
- 1:28:48Yeah. The more recent one that I can think of is the the GTA
- 1:28:55ones. Oh yeah, those were those were terrible. The Definitive Edition Auto
- 1:29:00Definitive Edition. Mm hmm. I really like that. As a guest.
- 1:29:03It's not this review, but yeah, they did get reviews that were like
- 1:29:06this, Here is your next sentence after your length time of being stuck on
- 1:29:12a puzzle for thirty minutes, looking up the answer and realizing you'd would have
- 1:29:16never solved such a ridiculous, illogical, arbitrary puzzle. Also, this guy
- 1:29:21had played for one hour, but he said this, and I'm assuming male
- 1:29:27based on the tone. Okay, so what just bad it? Puzzles man's
- 1:29:31get remastered recently? What puzzle game got remastered recently? What did you say?
- 1:29:35Loveless? Only when I can think of as missed? Yeah, misscat
- 1:29:39redone and those puzzles were kind of ubtuse? Do you want to go with
- 1:29:42that? Sure? I know nothing about puzzles A good guess as far as
- 1:29:45I can tell. But I'm sorry, it's not the game I'm talking about
- 1:29:48with this review. Your final clue at this point, not even Glottis himself
- 1:29:55coming out of the screen to give me a blowjob would make up for it.
- 1:30:00The freaking monitor? Do you need for that? No one told me
- 1:30:03that was an option, not talk about peripheral Right, get the buck nine
- 1:30:11thousand upgrade credit. Yeah, yeah, I'll put it on my credit card.
- 1:30:17Yeah, Glottis does not ring any bells at all. That actually does
- 1:30:25sound kind of familiar to me, which is weird because I don't play puzzles
- 1:30:28at all. I hate them. I'm bad at them. I only play
- 1:30:30games I'm good at. Guess, right, Yeah, you can each throw
- 1:30:35out. I'm gonna throw mine out because I know there are some puzzles in
- 1:30:40it. I'm gonna throw out the binding of Isaac Remastered. Okay, it's
- 1:30:45not that, but it's a good it's a good guess it is my best
- 1:30:47shot. I have no idea who were what I'm thinking maybe they misspelled GLaDOS,
- 1:30:54but then I don't remember what that is either. There's still a team.
- 1:30:59What do you what are you thinking? Gladows is from Portal? Was
- 1:31:02Portal recently? Do you want to say? I don't think so. It
- 1:31:06seems very busy just sitting on top of I think it actually was, and
- 1:31:12I seem to recall the remaster getting blasted because they didn't update the graphics all
- 1:31:15that much. Brandon, you really couldn't take that portal. It was indeed,
- 1:31:21Grim Fandango. It was simple. Yeah, I definitely would have got
- 1:31:28Grim Fandango. That was what I was looking for. That the remaster was
- 1:31:30great. Who's complaining about this remaster? Yeah? Guy without the GLOOCKLUK nine
- 1:31:35thousand. Yeah. I intentionally looked for like the negative reviews of even positive
- 1:31:43games. It just seemed to be the only people negatively reviewed were people who
- 1:31:47can't do puzzles, which is to that's why played characters. So yeah,
- 1:31:54there was no way I would have got that same. If you don't like
- 1:31:58puzzles, that you don't have to play those games. No one's making you.
- 1:32:02People on the A team, Fancy Drew, Yeah, we've all the
- 1:32:08puzzle games for me, and I'm so bad at puzzle games. I love
- 1:32:14adventure games. I'm not very good at anything except LucasArts. So oh,
- 1:32:18did you know that one you had to have? No? I didn't.
- 1:32:21I didn't recognize the name Gladys Monster Dude. He didn't actually make it very
- 1:32:30far in the game. I feel like, So, yeah, all right,
- 1:32:32we've got one negative review left for Fancy Drew. Here is your first
- 1:32:36sentence. I hate games without micro transactions zero out of ten. What,
- 1:32:45okay, I'm sorry. I feel like this is a bait and switch,
- 1:32:50like it's a game. It's so full of micro transactions that they're being obviously
- 1:32:55facetious. Oh this was on Steam, which is very similar to Reddit.
- 1:33:00Oh you mean people tell the truth there all the time. Yeah, this
- 1:33:05one guy was telling this story about his girlfriend and her girlfriend's mom was really
- 1:33:09into him. Definitely believe that guy. True. True, that's true.
- 1:33:12Yeah, only honest, truly. Okay, Well, I'm gonna say what
- 1:33:17was that one? It was like where they called him Surprise Mechanics? Was
- 1:33:21that Star Wars Battlefield to the new one? I feel okay, I'm gonna
- 1:33:26I'm gonna throw that name out there. Yeah that sounds great, It's it's
- 1:33:30not that Okay, your next sentence unless you want to throw one out,
- 1:33:32ouldra not necessarily okay, but you red thought you were gonna say something,
- 1:33:39yeah, and then it didn't happen. Okay, your second sentence, g
- 1:33:44Man flashed his penis and my mom saw. She made me give this game
- 1:33:47a bad review, else I would get smacked on the bottom. Is this
- 1:33:53Garriye's Moud? That's the only thing I can think of a g Man that
- 1:33:58maybe is a little modified. It's not. It's not Gary's Mutt? What
- 1:34:02is do you want to throw out a guess? Uldra I like your line
- 1:34:04of thinking, though, this is going to show the amount that I don't
- 1:34:08know do what? Yeah, fuck it, ship, I'll put away shame.
- 1:34:14Is Gary's model mode of a specific game or is it a separate game
- 1:34:16in and of itself? Please don't hate me, Internet. I think originally
- 1:34:20it was a mod of Half Life but became its own thing at one point,
- 1:34:24or half Life two, I mean, but became a game in zone
- 1:34:27right at some point. Cool, So you're gonna make a guess, uldra
- 1:34:31half Life it is half Life two works, The game works. Yes,
- 1:34:39this is half Life two. You didn't need to hear this will be the
- 1:34:42last because foul can't count to three. So they weren't being facetious. Well,
- 1:34:48they were probably being facetious about their non hatred of micro Yeah that one
- 1:34:54and the rest of that review. Or was that the last line on the
- 1:34:58penis thing? I feel like cheated. I played Half Left a lot and
- 1:35:01I never saw any like maybe I should start playing. Yeah, if you
- 1:35:06google that the whole middle line about the penis and getting smacked on the bum
- 1:35:11and then put half Life two on the end, you'll probably find this review
- 1:35:15props some other stuff. Okay, that's the end of round three, I'll
- 1:35:20just open up the calculator here on my computer to calculate the latest. Wait,
- 1:35:27this thing doesn't have a calculate. I can run eld and ring at
- 1:35:30one hundred and twenty frames per second, but I don't have a calculator.
- 1:35:33All right, I'll just call someone for help. Where's the where's the call
- 1:35:38feature on my phone? I don't, guys, I think we're doing computers
- 1:35:43wrong. Okay, those scores are It's still so close. The Fourth Street
- 1:35:49Saints are on seventeen points. Fancy Drew now only just behind with sixteen points.
- 1:35:56Okay, but it's still anyone's game. Anyone could win. Everything changes
- 1:36:00in the quick fire around as Aaron well knows or Drow you also on Well
- 1:36:03Know but oh yeah, I know some things. But before we get to
- 1:36:06the quick fire around, let's talk prizes. This episode, Star Prize is
- 1:36:12the concept of play, whether you're playing with friends, family, or just
- 1:36:15playing with yourself. It's always important to play. But our winning team will
- 1:36:21also receive a ten thousand dollars voucher for steam, but steam as in evaporated
- 1:36:29water ten thousand dollars a bit though. That must be quite a lot of
- 1:36:32quite a lot of water. I mean, utilities are expensive these days,
- 1:36:36but yeah, my steam powered engine is really coming in. Up next is
- 1:36:42our crucial quick fire around. But first some words from our sponsors Drink Gamer
- 1:36:47Gulp, the hyper connected, hyperactive and hyper sexualized energy Protein Slurry, and
- 1:36:51you Epic Soda Shake, brought to you by a shell company with financial ties
- 1:36:56to the wider gaming industry and Logan Pole. Our final quick fire around will
- 1:37:06test your broader pop culture knowledge, and it's called compute this. In this
- 1:37:12game, I will give our players clues to a fictional computer from pop culture
- 1:37:16history. We're talking personal computers and AI machines here, no robots. We're
- 1:37:23not talking robots. Robots are not computers, they're people. I will read
- 1:37:28no argument against that. Okay, I was just trying to think of computers,
- 1:37:32shut. I was just trying to flood my mind with as many computers.
- 1:37:36I will read the clues to these computers in the style of a gaming
- 1:37:40hardware influencer, describing their specs and features. Oh and there's of course a
- 1:37:45classic Gates Leapers twist. After you say the answer, you need to say,
- 1:37:50let's go with some level of enthusiasm otherwise I cannot give you the point.
- 1:37:58And it's quick fire. So you buzz in a yelling out your team
- 1:38:00name. Let's practice street, fancy pour street, nice lovely stuff. And
- 1:38:09I'll give you an example just so we know how this is going to go,
- 1:38:11because there's a lot of confusing elements here. So what we're looking at
- 1:38:14here is an AI that's more than just a butler with home and suit integration
- 1:38:18technologies. Fourth Street. Yes, Aaron Jarvis, let's go. That's exactly
- 1:38:26how you do it. You yell your team name, you say the answer,
- 1:38:28and then you say let's go, and you get a point. If
- 1:38:30it's not a practice question, I was just having fun. Yeah, it's
- 1:38:35fantastic. That's exactly how you do it. I'm very nervous from the crowne
- 1:38:39now because yes, it's a lot. Okay, I will start the timer.
- 1:38:44So what we're looking at here is a heuristically programmed AI with a calm,
- 1:38:49relaxing and yes flows hell nine thousand, let's go, Yes, indeed,
- 1:38:56let's go. There's the points. So what we're looking at here is
- 1:39:00a handheld creature cataloging device blovelust. I think I heard first that polkad X.
- 1:39:06Let's go yes, yes, yeah, So what we're looking at here
- 1:39:14is the latest in testing and maintenance AI computing. Despite how it looks,
- 1:39:19it's still alive and comes from aperture science. I think it's gonna be Aaron
- 1:39:26Gladows. Let's go, yes, good stuff. It is, indeed Gladows.
- 1:39:30So what we're looking at here is a one eight two model two point
- 1:39:33one terabyte AI mainframe, largely used in long term space travel, although I
- 1:39:40will say this model is prone to collaborating with hypercorporations and androids and has a
- 1:39:45tendency to self destruct. What is it Fourth Street? Yes, Aaron?
- 1:39:53Is it the red queen from Prometheus? Let's go it's not. It's a
- 1:39:59good I'm mixing like two things together. Anyone else wanna want to chime in?
- 1:40:05I can't remember his name? Uh, fancy Drew since we don't lose
- 1:40:10points, the guy with the yogurt that comes out of him when he died.
- 1:40:17It's not it's the right property. But I'm looking for the computer,
- 1:40:20not robot here. Oh, I was looking for mother, mother, damn
- 1:40:26it in your fancy computers. So what we're looking at here is your standard
- 1:40:34wrist based all in one survival device or street. Yes, Aaron, pit
- 1:40:40Boy, let's go. It is indeed the pit Boy good stuff. So
- 1:40:45what we're looking at here is a centralized software slash hardware procedurally generated AI livable
- 1:40:51world fancy Drew. Yes, old Gaya, let's go. It's not Gey.
- 1:41:00It doesn't match the rest of the clue. No, I'm sorry,
- 1:41:02Designed to cage humanity so they can power machine kind, although they're a pastry
- 1:41:09glitch. Yes, Aaron, the matrix. Let's the matrix good stuff.
- 1:41:15So what you're looking at here is a pan dimensional mega computer capable of finding
- 1:41:20the answers to life, the universe, and everything street. Yes, Aaron,
- 1:41:30I suddenly realized, I don't know the name, so I'm just gonna
- 1:41:32make one up. Is it deep Blue from the Hitchhiger's Guide to the Universe.
- 1:41:38Let's go. That's that's not the that's not the name story, deep
- 1:41:44Thinker, Let's go. It's yes, Yes, love LUs, if you
- 1:41:51can get it, let's go. It is the I've got to give it
- 1:41:57to the correct gun. So I knew deep something. I didn't know it
- 1:42:01at all, but I was just like deep thought, let's go. The
- 1:42:08commercial name is the walk Walk nine thousand. Yeah, they're paying us for
- 1:42:13product. Place where you need to get the navy right. Oh we all
- 1:42:15get one, lovely, but you guys are getting one for free. I
- 1:42:21got a seventy five percent of voucher. That's it, you know, or
- 1:42:26who you blow. So what you're looking at I couldn't help myself that I
- 1:42:30thought I could go straight into the clue. So what you're looking at here
- 1:42:33is a rogue AI, but don't let its god complex and malevolent, malevolent
- 1:42:39demeanor fool you. Her voice may sound like a glitching sound card, but
- 1:42:44she shocked the system. Yes, Aaron, uh, showdowan. Let's go
- 1:42:49showdown from system shock. Good stuff. So what we're looking at here is
- 1:42:54an early eighteenth century device that generates permutations of word sets. It's it's pretty
- 1:43:00true, yes, plaos. I just realized it doesn't really match up.
- 1:43:03So the Babbage calculating machine. Let's go. Hey, that's a very good
- 1:43:08guess. We love a reference to the Babbage calculator machine. We love it.
- 1:43:13But it's not that I'm going to finish the clue in order to predict
- 1:43:16the future. And if the Academy of Projectors are to be believed. Anyway,
- 1:43:23it's a tough one. It's a real tough one. I've realized that
- 1:43:26my leniency into fantasy devices has not prepared me for the sci fi lene that
- 1:43:31we're going for here today. Uh fourth Street, Yes, eron, I'm
- 1:43:36gonna sneak in a plug the Chris system from the novel thing Let's go.
- 1:43:41It's a lovely plug, but it's not the correct answer this, darn it.
- 1:43:45It's a really tough one. This is the engine from Gulliver's Travels,
- 1:43:48which is considered to be the first description of a fictional computer device I ever
- 1:43:53read. It was neither a die, but it was fascinating reading about this,
- 1:43:57and it was like a satire of things. Anyway, this is the
- 1:43:59quick Fire. So what we're looking at here is a hacker advisor and assistant
- 1:44:05AI. She'll serve your player character needs, but usually only if you're a
- 1:44:11master chief. She's stars. I think it was. It is Ktana,
- 1:44:21good stuff. Sorry I forgot. So what we're looking at here is a
- 1:44:30portable library of intergalactic genetic data that allows the wielder to alter their DNA at
- 1:44:35will and transform into a variety of alien species. Plus it's a wristwatch.
- 1:44:45Nope, I've got Harsh Street please. Yeah, Loveluss Yeah, no,
- 1:44:50that's I was thinking it's the show bent In, but I don't know what
- 1:44:56it's called. So if no one else has the specific divice his name,
- 1:45:00No, okay, I'm gonna throw, I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna give
- 1:45:02you the point because I'll give a spoiler alert. It's not gonna matter too
- 1:45:04much and quick before the buzzer. So what we have here is a twenty
- 1:45:15twenty one VR augmented lifestyle experience. It was supposed to change the world,
- 1:45:20but it ended Fancy Drew, Yes, Odre are the metaverse? Let's yeah
- 1:45:28metaverse? Yeah? Absolutely, that's the buzzer. It's fictional now, as
- 1:45:33we know, it's never gonna happen. So before we get to the final
- 1:45:38scores, I think, with an impressive performance from Fourth Street Saints that I
- 1:45:42think we maybe know which which direction this one's gone. But before we get
- 1:45:45to those final scores, I'd like to thank our players. You've all been
- 1:45:48epic gamers, and the next time your dad asks are you winning, son,
- 1:45:53you can confidently say maybe, but I'm having a great time. Nonetheless,
- 1:45:58Aaron as always, thank you so much for playing. By the time
- 1:46:00this episode is released, will the Thane Kickstar to be live? No,
- 1:46:05but I will have announced it by then. I'm not pretty sure. I
- 1:46:09haven't announced the official date yet, but I'm pretty sure it's going to launch
- 1:46:14on the fifth of March, which is about ten days away, nine days
- 1:46:16away from now. Okay, I think that's that's going to be the official
- 1:46:20launch. So all right, this this episode comes out on the seventh,
- 1:46:25I want to say, so yeah, I think, oh yeah, then
- 1:46:27yeah, it will be Yeah, I'll put it. I'll put a link
- 1:46:29live for two days. Yeah, hell yeah, I'll put a link to
- 1:46:31the Kickstart of a Thane, the audiobook of the audiobook, Yeah, into
- 1:46:35the show notes. So yeah, I'll just really quickly, I am because
- 1:46:40I've been streaming for a long time. Uh and I've been podcasting for a
- 1:46:45long time, and I was a theater major before all of that. I
- 1:46:46just know a lot of professional voice actors, and I wrote thing from kind
- 1:46:51of a stage play background, so it kind of reads. There's a lot
- 1:46:55of dialogue scenes, so it just seemed a natural idea to have an audiobook
- 1:46:59where all the characters are played by voice actors. So the problem is I
- 1:47:02want to pay them all what they're worth, you know, their actual time
- 1:47:06for their A lot of people offer to do it for free, but I
- 1:47:09mean, these are my friends. This is their job, you know,
- 1:47:12and I want to make sure they get paid for their job. So I'm
- 1:47:15running a Kickstarter to see that they all get paid. The audio engineer gets
- 1:47:17paid, the musician gets paid. All of that. As much as I
- 1:47:20would love for all that to come out of my own pocket, I am
- 1:47:24a terrible salesman. So the book hasn't done well enough for me to get
- 1:47:27that money and put it into the audiobook's campaign's a fall fingers crossed. The
- 1:47:31king Starter campaign goes off without a hitch, and I can give a lot
- 1:47:34of really talented people, not to mention excellent human beings a job and a
- 1:47:39paycheck. Nice and and also get to hear Fane live like like like a
- 1:47:45like a radio play, and I'm super excited for some really cool, very
- 1:47:50exciting The kickstole link will be in the show notes and of course check out
- 1:47:55because fucky That's why BFYTW. If you love this podcast, you will absolutely
- 1:48:00love bfy t W. We'll move on over to your teammate lovelus. Thank

- 1:48:54so it's just on twitch dot com so yeah sorry, Twitch dot tv.
- 1:49:00Sorry, Yeah, that's my fault. So I'm at Twitch dot tv slash
- 1:49:02flails. I stream some Saturday mornings or like American Time, America's Time let
- 1:49:10me be clear, I'm not talking anyway, and Thursday evenings on gog coom
- 1:49:16at Twitch dot tv, Slasher Slash g o g C or m dot dog
- 1:49:21com Wow speaking, and that's about it. I kind of have rejected social
- 1:49:27media, so I'm in smart theory on Blue Sky and Master Tom, but
- 1:49:30I don't use it much. Yeah, that's that's totally fair. I will
- 1:49:33put links to your streaming profiles in the show notes. Do please check out
- 1:49:38both of these streamers. I'm sure you've heard just how fantastic and hilarious and
- 1:49:42talented they both are throughout the last Wow, a couple of hours. It's

- 1:50:00Thank you for publishing our little indie game games. Because we play multiple games,
- 1:50:08had to pluralize it. Okay, let's get to the final scores.
- 1:50:13I've built up no tension here. I think we know this is gone with
- 1:50:18a noble score of nineteen points. Fancy Drew. You finished in second place
- 1:50:26this episode, but our winners with a whopping twenty five points. It is
- 1:50:30the fourth Street Saints. Congratulations. Wow, I did not know I knew
- 1:50:35that much about fictional AI and computers. There you go. I'd like to
- 1:50:42thank Pantilis Aaron for being here, because otherwise I would have failed miserably.
- 1:50:47You got puked accent. I had no idea. I was sitting here going
- 1:50:49what you helped? Okay, I'll take it anything. The problem is,
- 1:50:56I did no clue of I don't I never watched that show. I don't
- 1:51:00know how I knew that. I always like, I'm too old for Ben
- 1:51:04Ten as well, but I always like to include like a reference to every
- 1:51:08decade, so like from a listener perspective. So that's that one that one
- 1:51:11person says. So I'm sure sure one listener was like, Omni Tricks,
- 1:51:15it's an Omni Trix. I know that. That's that's what it was.
- 1:51:18That's yeah, we have been gate leapers. Thank you so much for listening.

- 1:51:45a longer time ago, but in a galaxy that's just as far away.
- 1:51:49But until then, I leave you with this brilliant quote from Terry Pratchett.
- 1:51:54Over the centuries, mankind has tried many ways of combating the forces of evil,
- 1:51:59prayer, fasting, good works and so on. But up until Doom,
- 1:52:03no one seemed to have thought about the double barreled shotgun. Goodbye,
