- WEBVTT 00:00:19.670 --> 00:00:23.210 Happy Thursday, everyone. I hope you are enjoying 00:00:23.210 --> 00:00:26.010 today's weather because it's been raining in 00:00:26.010 --> 00:00:28.489 Wilmington all week. And don't get me wrong. 00:00:29.160 --> 00:00:31.960 I love a thunderstorm. I love being in my bed 00:00:31.960 --> 00:00:34.240 with a thunderstorm, on the couch with a thunderstorm, 00:00:34.420 --> 00:00:36.960 but I don't like to be at work when there's a 00:00:36.960 --> 00:00:39.780 thunderstorm because I'd rather be in my bed 00:00:39.780 --> 00:00:42.240 or on the couch. Watching a movie. Actually, 00:00:42.259 --> 00:00:45.859 watching the new Legally Blonde series that's 00:00:45.859 --> 00:00:48.420 on Prime. If you haven't watched it, 10 out of 00:00:48.420 --> 00:00:50.799 10 recommend if you love the Legally Blonde movies 00:00:50.799 --> 00:00:54.179 because it is so cute and so good. I'm loving 00:00:54.179 --> 00:00:57.179 it. um yeah but today we finally got a sunny 00:00:57.179 --> 00:01:00.140 day so I will be going to the beach at some point 00:01:00.140 --> 00:01:03.159 I hope everyone though had a fantastic fourth 00:01:03.159 --> 00:01:05.400 speaking of the beach I know it gets crazy here 00:01:05.400 --> 00:01:07.920 in Wilmington and basically any other coastal 00:01:07.920 --> 00:01:10.780 town in North Carolina so if you've been in the 00:01:10.780 --> 00:01:14.019 coast I hope that you stayed safe and if you 00:01:14.019 --> 00:01:16.420 were somewhere else I hope that it was amazing 00:01:16.420 --> 00:01:19.579 truly because it is once again as I said last 00:01:19.579 --> 00:01:22.750 week it's my favorite holiday We went to Nikki's. 00:01:22.769 --> 00:01:25.329 It was amazing. The food, amazing. The fireworks, 00:01:25.549 --> 00:01:29.010 amazing. The friendships, amazing. The outfits, 00:01:29.269 --> 00:01:32.609 amazing. Everything was just so good. I don't 00:01:32.609 --> 00:01:34.849 know. I love the fourth. I did buy these sticky, 00:01:34.989 --> 00:01:37.849 like sparkly things that go on your face that 00:01:37.849 --> 00:01:39.790 are like stickers. I guess they are stickers 00:01:39.790 --> 00:01:43.390 because I usually do temporary tattoos and put 00:01:43.390 --> 00:01:47.430 them on my face. But I bought those like not 00:01:47.430 --> 00:01:52.180 even 10, yeah, more than 10 years ago. Oh my 00:01:52.180 --> 00:01:54.680 gosh. I bought those when I was like 14 one year 00:01:54.680 --> 00:01:57.359 and I've just held on to them and I finally ran 00:01:57.359 --> 00:02:00.659 out. So, and also when they're that old, they 00:02:00.659 --> 00:02:03.260 just are not doing well. They don't stick or 00:02:03.260 --> 00:02:05.680 like get pressed onto your face anymore. So anyways, 00:02:05.819 --> 00:02:08.240 I saw some stickers on Amazon, bought them. Do 00:02:08.240 --> 00:02:09.819 you think they stayed on my face in this heat? 00:02:10.159 --> 00:02:12.729 Absolutely not. Absolutely not. They didn't stay 00:02:12.729 --> 00:02:15.270 on my face at all because your girl is a sweater. 00:02:15.449 --> 00:02:18.129 She loves to sweat, which is crazy because I 00:02:18.129 --> 00:02:20.210 used to never sweat. That was like a thing we 00:02:20.210 --> 00:02:21.909 would talk about a lot when I was younger and 00:02:21.909 --> 00:02:23.289 I'd be in the gym. My mom would be like, you 00:02:23.289 --> 00:02:24.729 need to be sweating. And I'd be like, listen, 00:02:24.830 --> 00:02:28.729 I'm trying. I don't sweat. But now I sweat all 00:02:28.729 --> 00:02:30.949 the time. I'm sweating those toxins out though. 00:02:31.189 --> 00:02:34.490 You know, speaking of sweat, I did go to the 00:02:34.490 --> 00:02:37.490 gym on Sunday. So yeah, I drink Saturday. Went 00:02:37.490 --> 00:02:40.030 to the gym on Sunday. The gym was basically empty. 00:02:40.090 --> 00:02:42.189 It was amazing though. And then I ran into my 00:02:42.189 --> 00:02:45.229 friend Lily. After the gym, I had to cool off 00:02:45.229 --> 00:02:49.169 for sure because I was gross. Lily was gross 00:02:49.169 --> 00:02:50.889 too. So when we hugged each other, it was doubly 00:02:50.889 --> 00:02:53.250 gross, but it was perfect because what else should 00:02:53.250 --> 00:02:55.849 you do as friends? And then I had Harrison's 00:02:55.849 --> 00:02:58.830 birthday and I don't know how old he turned because 00:02:58.830 --> 00:03:00.830 he's told me three times I don't want to ask 00:03:00.830 --> 00:03:05.580 a fourth time. But he got older. And dinner was 00:03:05.580 --> 00:03:07.419 good. I got to sit next to my friend Lexi, who's 00:03:07.419 --> 00:03:11.300 pregnant. I was so excited for her. And then 00:03:11.300 --> 00:03:16.060 all I've done is work and work and work. But 00:03:16.060 --> 00:03:17.900 at work, I have to tell clients I'm moving, and 00:03:17.900 --> 00:03:21.379 it's been so sad. I've had to try not to cry. 00:03:21.639 --> 00:03:23.479 I've been low -key kind of scared to tell a couple 00:03:23.479 --> 00:03:25.439 clients, so I've decided to let the front desk 00:03:25.439 --> 00:03:28.719 do that, not me. Because telling people you're 00:03:28.719 --> 00:03:31.800 moving is hard. And speaking of hard, moving 00:03:31.800 --> 00:03:35.900 is expensive. It's so expensive, y 'all. I've 00:03:35.900 --> 00:03:37.840 been looking at like those moving pods because 00:03:37.840 --> 00:03:40.280 I use that to get from California back to North 00:03:40.280 --> 00:03:43.699 Carolina. And it's as much to move from North 00:03:43.699 --> 00:03:45.939 Carolina down to Florida, even though it's like 00:03:45.939 --> 00:03:48.659 not even half the distance. It's less than half 00:03:48.659 --> 00:03:51.379 the distance. I think it's like a quarter of 00:03:51.379 --> 00:03:54.080 the distance, actually. So it's insane how expensive 00:03:54.080 --> 00:03:57.919 it is. So pray that I find a cheaper solution 00:03:57.919 --> 00:04:05.340 because I can't live like this. Yeah, it's hard. 00:04:06.199 --> 00:04:09.879 It's hard. I am going to Raleigh this weekend. 00:04:10.060 --> 00:04:12.860 Praise God. And me and my younger brother are 00:04:12.860 --> 00:04:15.439 going to go get P .F. Chang while my sister and 00:04:15.439 --> 00:04:17.699 her husband are in church. Oh, my gosh. She's 00:04:17.699 --> 00:04:19.259 going to listen to this podcast and hear this. 00:04:19.439 --> 00:04:21.720 I'm so sorry you're getting left out, Kaya. It's 00:04:21.720 --> 00:04:23.439 just like we really want P .F. Chang because 00:04:23.439 --> 00:04:27.480 we don't have it in Wilmington. Sorry. So, yeah, 00:04:27.500 --> 00:04:29.949 we're going to go to P .F. Chang. But speaking 00:04:29.949 --> 00:04:32.029 of going to Raleigh, guess what happened this 00:04:32.029 --> 00:04:34.810 week? On the way to Harrison's birthday, guess 00:04:34.810 --> 00:04:37.769 what? My AC went out. It's like the hottest week 00:04:37.769 --> 00:04:40.449 we've had in Wilmington all summer, and my AC 00:04:40.449 --> 00:04:42.329 goes out. The same thing happened last year. 00:04:42.389 --> 00:04:44.910 We hit the record heats in Wilmington, and my 00:04:44.910 --> 00:04:48.290 AC goes out. So I'm going today to get it fixed, 00:04:48.449 --> 00:04:52.110 which, fingers crossed, also that's not expensive 00:04:52.110 --> 00:04:55.410 because we can't live like this in this heat. 00:04:55.490 --> 00:04:58.110 I love the heat. If you wanted me to sit outside 00:04:58.110 --> 00:05:01.110 and like bask in the sun and soak up the vitamin 00:05:01.110 --> 00:05:03.850 D, absolutely sure. You want me driving in my 00:05:03.850 --> 00:05:08.870 stale aired car and the heat? No, it's not happening. 00:05:09.550 --> 00:05:11.970 That's my personal hell. Someone's calling me. 00:05:12.550 --> 00:05:16.670 I'm just gonna decline that phone call. I don't 00:05:16.670 --> 00:05:18.910 need to hear from you, whoever you are. Where's 00:05:18.910 --> 00:05:24.449 my phone? Anyways, okay. So let's go into what's 00:05:24.449 --> 00:05:29.029 in and what's out. um what is out not a shocker 00:05:29.029 --> 00:05:33.670 for some of you at all actually and it's so random 00:05:33.670 --> 00:05:37.449 but soda soda is out i keep wanting to like soda 00:05:37.449 --> 00:05:41.759 i liked sprite as a kid But I'm like just not 00:05:41.759 --> 00:05:44.180 a soda person. And it's not like, oh, I'm so 00:05:44.180 --> 00:05:46.839 healthy. No, I would rather just drink almost 00:05:46.839 --> 00:05:49.519 anything else but soda because the first few 00:05:49.519 --> 00:05:51.980 sips are good. That's it. I just want two little 00:05:51.980 --> 00:05:53.740 sips and then I'm done. I'm like, ew, gross. 00:05:53.899 --> 00:05:57.420 Get it away from me. Not for me. So soda is out. 00:05:57.500 --> 00:06:00.300 What is in though? Same thing as last week, I 00:06:00.300 --> 00:06:03.430 think. I don't know. Maybe it's not the same 00:06:03.430 --> 00:06:04.829 thing as last week, but I'm going to say same 00:06:04.829 --> 00:06:07.730 thing as last week. What is in is sunsets on 00:06:07.730 --> 00:06:10.069 the beach, doing Bible study, and then a swim 00:06:10.069 --> 00:06:12.850 because it was amazing. Did we almost drown? 00:06:13.889 --> 00:06:18.329 110%. Was it worth it? Also 110%. And hopefully 00:06:18.329 --> 00:06:20.389 the sand and the water has calmed down enough 00:06:20.389 --> 00:06:22.290 that I don't have to be worried about sharks 00:06:22.290 --> 00:06:25.110 biting me at sunset, but I will be out there 00:06:25.110 --> 00:06:28.050 with friends. So like my chances of being the 00:06:28.050 --> 00:06:32.079 one getting bit do go down. That is my math. 00:06:33.240 --> 00:06:35.519 That's Hannah Liz's math right there. And he 00:06:35.519 --> 00:06:37.800 said, anybody wonders why I refuse to surf by 00:06:37.800 --> 00:06:40.920 myself also. That is part of it. I have to have 00:06:40.920 --> 00:06:42.379 somebody else out there. I don't want to be the 00:06:42.379 --> 00:06:44.399 only one to get bit by a shark, you know? But 00:06:44.399 --> 00:06:47.620 if you have a friend out there, or two, or three, 00:06:47.759 --> 00:06:50.819 I fully believe your chances of being bit go 00:06:50.819 --> 00:06:54.379 down. And somebody else might get bit. Not that. 00:06:54.829 --> 00:06:56.889 Not that I'm wishing anybody else would get bit 00:06:56.889 --> 00:06:59.769 by a shark, y 'all. I promise. In my hearts of 00:06:59.769 --> 00:07:02.329 hearts, I'm not thinking, gee, if I had to choose 00:07:02.329 --> 00:07:04.110 between me and someone else, I wish it was someone 00:07:04.110 --> 00:07:07.790 else. I'm just saying, in the odds of the unknown, 00:07:08.269 --> 00:07:12.430 it's kind of like, I don't know what it's kind 00:07:12.430 --> 00:07:14.189 of like. In the odds of the unknown, I don't 00:07:14.189 --> 00:07:15.509 want to know which one of us it's going to happen 00:07:15.509 --> 00:07:20.949 to. Okay? Yeah. I'm going to end on that. Yeah. 00:07:21.529 --> 00:07:25.430 seems, that seems like a solid way to jump into 00:07:25.430 --> 00:07:37.310 this week's episode. Matthew 1 10. Now we enter 00:07:37.310 --> 00:07:41.629 into the scene of King Hezekiah. He was 25 when 00:07:41.629 --> 00:07:44.430 he became king and sat on that throne for 29 00:07:44.430 --> 00:07:47.649 years. He did all that was right in the eyes 00:07:47.649 --> 00:07:52.029 of the Lord. And in 2 Kings 18, verse 4, we see 00:07:52.029 --> 00:07:55.050 him take down all the high places and break the 00:07:55.050 --> 00:07:58.110 bronze serpent Moses had made because apparently 00:07:58.110 --> 00:08:00.910 the people had been making sacrifices to it. 00:08:00.990 --> 00:08:06.670 And I think that's crazy. Gold cows and now bronze 00:08:06.670 --> 00:08:10.269 snakes. Will these people ever learn? In verses 00:08:10.269 --> 00:08:13.709 5 and 6, we see this passage talk about the extent 00:08:13.709 --> 00:08:16.500 of his relationship with God. It says that there 00:08:16.500 --> 00:08:19.459 was no king after him or before him that held 00:08:19.459 --> 00:08:22.040 so tightly to the Lord and that the Lord never, 00:08:22.199 --> 00:08:25.680 ever left him. And he prospered in all that he 00:08:25.680 --> 00:08:29.160 did. So, let's just say homie knows the Lord 00:08:29.160 --> 00:08:32.879 and the Lord knows him, okay? This sets us up 00:08:32.879 --> 00:08:36.580 for what comes next. Jump forward just a few 00:08:36.580 --> 00:08:39.149 verses in the same chapter. And we see that the 00:08:39.149 --> 00:08:41.870 king of Assyria comes up against him because 00:08:41.870 --> 00:08:45.090 Hezi has refused to serve him from the beginning 00:08:45.090 --> 00:08:49.250 of his reign. Let's read verses 19 through 25. 00:08:49.610 --> 00:08:52.370 And I'm going to totally butcher this name. Be 00:08:52.370 --> 00:08:56.669 ready. And the Arabishak said to him, say to 00:08:56.669 --> 00:08:59.230 Hezekiah, thus says the great king, the king 00:08:59.230 --> 00:09:04.629 of Assyria, on what do you rest this trust of 00:09:04.629 --> 00:09:07.750 yours? Do you think that the mere words are strategy 00:09:07.750 --> 00:09:12.169 and power for war? And whom do you now trust 00:09:12.169 --> 00:09:15.710 that you have rebelled against me? Behold, you 00:09:15.710 --> 00:09:18.830 are trusting now in Egypt that broke reed on 00:09:18.830 --> 00:09:21.409 the staff, which will pierce the hand of any 00:09:21.409 --> 00:09:24.289 man who leans on it, such as Pharaoh, king of 00:09:24.289 --> 00:09:27.129 Egypt, to all who trust in him. But if you say 00:09:27.129 --> 00:09:30.009 to me, We trust in the Lord our God, is it not 00:09:30.009 --> 00:09:32.730 he whose high places and altars Hezekiah has 00:09:32.730 --> 00:09:36.230 removed, saying to Judah and to Jerusalem, You 00:09:36.230 --> 00:09:38.429 shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem? 00:09:38.929 --> 00:09:42.250 Come now, make a wager with my master, the king 00:09:42.250 --> 00:09:44.769 of Assyria. I will give you two thousand horses, 00:09:44.870 --> 00:09:48.110 if you are able on your part to set riders on 00:09:48.110 --> 00:10:09.820 them. How then can you repulse? So a brief summary 00:10:09.820 --> 00:10:13.610 is the Assyrian king's like, Yo, Hesi, you think 00:10:13.610 --> 00:10:16.129 you can rebel against me like you're smart enough 00:10:16.129 --> 00:10:20.269 or strong enough? Yeah, right, you wish. Who 00:10:20.269 --> 00:10:22.750 are you putting your trust in? Egypt? Because 00:10:22.750 --> 00:10:25.970 we've seen how those guys can't be trusted. And 00:10:25.970 --> 00:10:27.909 don't even think about saying the Lord is on 00:10:27.909 --> 00:10:30.590 your side because you just tore down that God's 00:10:30.590 --> 00:10:33.190 high places. And isn't that the same God that 00:10:33.190 --> 00:10:36.480 sent me here to destroy you? Then this guy goes 00:10:36.480 --> 00:10:39.340 even further because jump down again a few verses 00:10:39.340 --> 00:10:42.340 and he's trying to sow discord and distrust and 00:10:42.340 --> 00:10:44.960 King Hezekiah to his people. He basically says, 00:10:45.139 --> 00:10:48.100 hey, y 'all don't trust your king. He's going 00:10:48.100 --> 00:10:50.360 to tell you that the Lord is on your side and 00:10:50.360 --> 00:10:53.799 will help you win this war. But newsflash, he's 00:10:53.799 --> 00:10:56.659 not. Did any of the other gods help their nations? 00:10:56.759 --> 00:11:01.240 The answer is nope. And neither is yours. I want 00:11:01.240 --> 00:11:04.600 to leave a note here. So The king of Assyria 00:11:04.600 --> 00:11:08.500 tried to tell King Hezekiah he knew who God was. 00:11:08.620 --> 00:11:12.220 He tried to make a point that God wasn't on Hezekiah's 00:11:12.220 --> 00:11:15.399 side and that God was actually on the Assyrian 00:11:15.399 --> 00:11:18.559 side. He even said that Hezekiah tore down the 00:11:18.559 --> 00:11:21.940 high places of God. When in fact, Hezekiah tore 00:11:21.940 --> 00:11:25.440 down the high places of all the idols that people 00:11:25.440 --> 00:11:28.500 portrayed to be gods. And I want this to just 00:11:28.500 --> 00:11:31.360 remind us that people might tell you who God 00:11:31.360 --> 00:11:33.659 is when in fact they have no idea who God is. 00:11:33.779 --> 00:11:35.779 They might tell you how God's supposed to show 00:11:35.779 --> 00:11:37.940 up in your life when, again, they have no real 00:11:37.940 --> 00:11:41.159 relationship with God and it's a trick. They 00:11:41.159 --> 00:11:43.480 might even pretend like they're on God's side 00:11:43.480 --> 00:11:46.059 and that they know God when in fact they don't 00:11:46.059 --> 00:11:47.679 and they're going to mislead you into believing 00:11:47.679 --> 00:11:50.279 who God is and his character. And that's why 00:11:50.279 --> 00:11:53.399 it's so important for us as Christians to know 00:11:53.399 --> 00:11:56.289 our Father. know his character and who he is 00:11:56.289 --> 00:11:58.529 so that when someone shows up like the king of 00:11:58.529 --> 00:12:01.149 Assyria and says, yo, you're a disappointing 00:12:01.149 --> 00:12:03.269 God. You tore down all his high places. You can 00:12:03.269 --> 00:12:06.389 say, no, babes, those were idols. Those were 00:12:06.389 --> 00:12:09.049 not the high places of my God. I know where my 00:12:09.049 --> 00:12:12.970 God lives. I know. Anyways, let's get back to 00:12:12.970 --> 00:12:15.230 the story. King Hezekiah hears all this and gets 00:12:15.230 --> 00:12:18.090 so upset. He goes to the house of the Lord and 00:12:18.090 --> 00:12:22.370 weeps. Basically, OT version of him weeping at 00:12:22.370 --> 00:12:24.639 Jesus's feet. And then he sends for the prophet 00:12:24.639 --> 00:12:28.740 Isaiah. Yep, that Isaiah. In chapter 19, Isaiah's 00:12:28.740 --> 00:12:31.360 like, bro, don't even worry about it. God's got 00:12:31.360 --> 00:12:33.159 this. He's going to play a trick on the other 00:12:33.159 --> 00:12:35.919 team and they'll just take themselves out. While 00:12:35.919 --> 00:12:38.600 this is going on and war is being waged, the 00:12:38.600 --> 00:12:41.659 other loser of a king sends another message saying 00:12:41.659 --> 00:12:44.740 something like, honestly, I don't even know why 00:12:44.740 --> 00:12:47.679 you're even trying. Don't let your God deceive 00:12:47.679 --> 00:12:49.659 you into thinking you're going to win this war, 00:12:49.740 --> 00:12:52.919 buddy. Has anyone ever won against me? Has any 00:12:52.919 --> 00:12:55.679 of their gods helped them? Nope, I don't think 00:12:55.679 --> 00:12:58.860 so. I don't know why, I just imagine the king 00:12:58.860 --> 00:13:01.440 talking in a valley girl accent with some sass, 00:13:01.460 --> 00:13:07.000 so that's his voice. From me. King Hezi goes 00:13:07.000 --> 00:13:09.919 and prays to God again, and Isaiah comes again 00:13:09.919 --> 00:13:12.629 with another message from God. God tells him 00:13:12.629 --> 00:13:14.990 that this king will not be making it into the 00:13:14.990 --> 00:13:17.649 city, not an arrow will make it into the city, 00:13:17.750 --> 00:13:21.590 and how he came is how he will leave, with nothing. 00:13:21.669 --> 00:13:26.250 Because I, aka God, will defend it for my sake 00:13:26.250 --> 00:13:29.210 and because I promised David. And our God, y 00:13:29.210 --> 00:13:33.320 'all, he is a promise keeper. Then... The angel 00:13:33.320 --> 00:13:36.259 of the Lord went out into the night, killed over 00:13:36.259 --> 00:13:39.919 100 ,000 from the enemy army. That king died, 00:13:40.039 --> 00:13:42.639 and his son took his place, and well, that was 00:13:42.639 --> 00:13:46.320 that. Jump down with me to chapter 20. In this 00:13:46.320 --> 00:13:49.559 scene, we see King Hezekiah is sick. Our main 00:13:49.559 --> 00:13:52.580 guy, Isaiah, comes in and says, God said, get 00:13:52.580 --> 00:13:55.259 your stuff straight because you, my friend, are 00:13:55.259 --> 00:13:58.080 going to die from this thing. Hezekiah dramatically 00:13:58.080 --> 00:14:00.460 turns his face to the wall and starts praying 00:14:00.460 --> 00:14:04.960 to God. Starting in verse 3, we hear him say, 00:14:05.299 --> 00:14:23.000 Turn back and say to Hezekiah, the leader of 00:14:23.000 --> 00:14:25.700 my people, Thus says the Lord, the God of David 00:14:25.700 --> 00:14:27.860 your father, I have heard your prayer, I have 00:14:27.860 --> 00:14:30.960 seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On 00:14:30.960 --> 00:14:32.960 the third day you shall go up to the house of 00:14:32.960 --> 00:14:35.580 the Lord, and I will add fifteen years to your 00:14:35.580 --> 00:14:38.600 life. I will deliver you and the city out of 00:14:38.600 --> 00:14:41.399 the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend 00:14:41.399 --> 00:14:44.840 the city for my own sake and for my servant David's 00:14:44.840 --> 00:14:47.519 sake. And Isaiah said, Bring a cake of figs, 00:14:47.519 --> 00:14:49.759 and let them take and lay it on the boil, that 00:14:49.759 --> 00:14:52.460 he may recover. And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, 00:14:52.720 --> 00:14:54.600 What shall be the sign that the Lord will heal 00:14:54.600 --> 00:14:56.940 me, and that I shall go up to the house of the 00:14:56.940 --> 00:15:00.059 Lord on the third day? And Isaiah said, This 00:15:00.059 --> 00:15:02.639 shall be the sign to you from the Lord, that 00:15:02.639 --> 00:15:05.019 the Lord will do the thing that he has promised. 00:15:05.299 --> 00:15:08.120 Shall the shadow go forward ten steps or go back 00:15:08.120 --> 00:15:12.139 ten steps? And Hezekiah answered, It is an easy 00:15:12.139 --> 00:15:15.309 thing for a shadow to lengthen its steps. Rather, 00:15:15.389 --> 00:15:18.690 let the shadow go back ten steps. And Isaiah 00:15:18.690 --> 00:15:20.710 the prophet called to the Lord, and he brought 00:15:20.710 --> 00:15:23.649 the shadow back ten steps, by which it has gone 00:15:23.649 --> 00:15:27.669 down on the steps of Ahaz. So, I don't know about 00:15:27.669 --> 00:15:31.909 you, but I think that is crazy. So, while our 00:15:31.909 --> 00:15:34.450 King Huzzi is sick, the king of Babylon hears 00:15:34.450 --> 00:15:37.149 he is sick and sends his men to quote -unquote 00:15:37.149 --> 00:15:40.289 check on him. But in reality, they are scoping 00:15:40.289 --> 00:15:43.789 out the place. King Hazi shows these guys everything. 00:15:44.070 --> 00:15:46.529 All his money, all his jewels, all his food. 00:15:46.690 --> 00:15:51.029 I mean, literally everything. And they're like, 00:15:51.210 --> 00:15:55.009 this all you right here? Dang. Isaiah doesn't 00:15:55.009 --> 00:15:57.950 trust the situation one bit. And he's like, who 00:15:57.950 --> 00:16:01.029 the heck are these guys? And Hazi is like, oh, 00:16:01.169 --> 00:16:03.590 they're our neighbors from a really far, far, 00:16:03.789 --> 00:16:07.049 far away land called Babylon. Well, later we 00:16:07.049 --> 00:16:09.009 see how that turns out for them because they're 00:16:09.009 --> 00:16:11.840 not that far, you know, like. Daniel and the 00:16:11.840 --> 00:16:15.120 lion's den, Babylon. So they'd be coming around 00:16:15.120 --> 00:16:17.519 the corner pretty soon. Anyways, back to the 00:16:17.519 --> 00:16:20.379 story. So Isaiah says, well, the Lord just informed 00:16:20.379 --> 00:16:22.960 me that these guys will take all that you got, 00:16:23.019 --> 00:16:25.500 buddy, and all your fathers left you and take 00:16:25.500 --> 00:16:29.139 it back to Babylon. So yeah. Because he's like, 00:16:29.259 --> 00:16:31.899 low key, sounds good to me. If there is still 00:16:31.899 --> 00:16:34.440 peace while I'm here, not my drama to deal with. 00:16:35.210 --> 00:16:37.950 Then, God left him to himself. Not like left 00:16:37.950 --> 00:16:40.049 him, left him, but kind of just stopped interfering 00:16:40.049 --> 00:16:44.070 at that point. And eventually, he died, you know, 00:16:44.090 --> 00:16:46.570 at the end of those 15 years, and his son reigned 00:16:46.570 --> 00:16:51.210 in his place. So, who is King Hezekiah? He was 00:16:51.210 --> 00:16:53.929 not just a good king. He was a great king. He 00:16:53.929 --> 00:16:56.929 leaned on God, sought him, and desired what he 00:16:56.929 --> 00:16:59.970 desired until he didn't. He set his kingdom up 00:16:59.970 --> 00:17:02.850 for success, well, until he didn't. And he cared 00:17:02.850 --> 00:17:06.750 about his people until... Well, until he didn't. 00:17:07.190 --> 00:17:11.009 Again. We see him continually go to God's house 00:17:11.009 --> 00:17:14.049 to find him until he couldn't anymore. And then 00:17:14.049 --> 00:17:16.769 he sought God through prayer. He got to witness 00:17:16.769 --> 00:17:20.490 a miracle after miracle. I mean, y 'all, he literally 00:17:20.490 --> 00:17:23.809 watched time go backwards. And that is still 00:17:23.809 --> 00:17:27.670 so crazy to me to even comprehend. His downfall 00:17:27.670 --> 00:17:30.880 was his pride. pride in what he had, pride in 00:17:30.880 --> 00:17:32.880 what he had accomplished. He wanted to show it 00:17:32.880 --> 00:17:35.160 off and have it be seen, and the men of Babylon 00:17:35.160 --> 00:17:39.480 ate it up. In the end, he sought comfort. Comfort 00:17:39.480 --> 00:17:42.640 when God could conquer the war for him. Comfort 00:17:42.640 --> 00:17:45.880 from when God took death away from his doorstep 00:17:45.880 --> 00:17:49.460 and gave him his health back. Comfort from his 00:17:49.460 --> 00:17:52.640 things, and even in the end, wasn't upset all 00:17:52.640 --> 00:17:54.980 his stuff would be ripped away, as long as it 00:17:54.980 --> 00:17:57.319 didn't happen while he was alive to see it. He 00:17:57.319 --> 00:18:00.200 was pretty cool with it. How often do we suffer 00:18:00.200 --> 00:18:02.779 others' consequences like Hezekiah's people will 00:18:02.779 --> 00:18:05.619 now suffer his consequences? How often do we 00:18:05.619 --> 00:18:07.900 move on with our lives because we don't see or 00:18:07.900 --> 00:18:11.019 care how our actions affect others? We don't 00:18:11.019 --> 00:18:12.940 have to see how it plays out, or honestly, we 00:18:12.940 --> 00:18:15.019 don't give a second thought on how it plays out. 00:18:15.119 --> 00:18:17.599 We won't be there to see it, and that's okay, 00:18:17.700 --> 00:18:20.279 just like King Hezekiah. I don't know, maybe 00:18:20.279 --> 00:18:22.839 just something to think about. What we do see 00:18:22.839 --> 00:18:26.740 is when he sought God, God sought him back. God 00:18:26.740 --> 00:18:29.180 was faithful to him when he called and humbled 00:18:29.180 --> 00:18:32.259 himself. God won wars for him, healed him, and 00:18:32.259 --> 00:18:35.259 gave him peace in his final days. This just reminds 00:18:35.259 --> 00:18:38.700 me that God remained to be a promise keeper through 00:18:38.700 --> 00:18:41.900 and through, not even to just Hezekiah, but all 00:18:41.900 --> 00:18:45.759 the way back to his servant David.
