  Speaker 1: some hesitancy to do to look at Love Island for us.

  Speaker 2: Yes, So it was my first year watching it, and

  Speaker 2: I watched it because a member of my team really

  Speaker 2: likes it, and I thought, well, this would be a

  Speaker 2: cool way for us to connect and talk about it.

  Speaker 1: Somebody in your in your law office there.

  Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I work with and so and so I

  Speaker 2: started it and last week, well, there's a couple of things.

  Speaker 2: First of all, it's a huge commitment. It's on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays,

  Speaker 2: and Fridays. There are people that watch all of that

  Speaker 2: help I am now one of these people. The episodes

  Speaker 2: are over an hour long, there's sometimes an hour and

  Speaker 2: a half long. Geez, yes, and some peacocks. Just in

  Speaker 2: case you're wondering, this is a huge commitment. And so,

  Speaker 2: first of all, I was like, oh my gosh, this

  Speaker 2: is a huge commitment. This is also not my flavor

  Speaker 2: of reality TV. I don't watch dating reality shows. I

  Speaker 2: watch the Housewives, I watch other things on Bravo, and
• 1:28
  Speaker 2: so I don't watch this and it's way out of
• 1:30
  Speaker 2: my comfort zone, which I'll talk about next week or

  Speaker 2: the week after about what why a dating reality show
• 1:35
  Speaker 2: is different. And then the other reason was something happened

  Speaker 2: because you know, you're putting people in these situations. And

  Speaker 2: I actually was like, I was, I can be very sensitive,

  Speaker 2: and I was like I didn't like some of what
• 1:44
  Speaker 2: was happening, which again I will talk about next week.

  Speaker 2: And so I'm like, okay, but I thought about it

  Speaker 2: and I pushed past some of that discomfort and I'm like, well,

  Speaker 2: this is interesting. And then my team member really likes

  Speaker 2: talking about this, so I do want to keep talking

  Speaker 2: to her, and then people love this show.

  Speaker 1: You guys, listen, Victoria. I have an idea. I have

  Speaker 1: an idea. You watch the Real Housewives of Salt Lake

  Speaker 1: and the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. You watch that,

  Speaker 2: But anyway, so here's my plan. We're going to get

  Speaker 2: So what we're going to do this week is we're

  Speaker 2: going to talk about something called scandaval, which I should

  Speaker 2: this all happened and I did it. And then next

  Speaker 2: week I'm going to talk about the format of Love Island,

  Speaker 2: like what it is is some just like some infrastructure

  Speaker 2: of it, and then we'll start doing and I'll add recaps. Okay,

  Speaker 2: There was an article in the New York Times about it,

  Speaker 2: which I'll mention this is this took over the world

  Speaker 2: and it got people interested in reality TV that didn't care.

  Speaker 2: So what it was, and I'll explain, like why this

  Speaker 2: matters because a person involved is the host now the

  Speaker 2: host of Summer House. So so what it was. It

  Speaker 2: started with vander Pump Rules. So are there are these

  Speaker 2: There was this couple on vander Pump Rules, which is
• 3:39
  Speaker 2: a show on Bravo about bartenders and servers, and so
• 3:42
  Speaker 2: we had Ariana Maddox and Tom Sandival. They were in
• 3:46
  Speaker 2: a long term relationship. What happened was Tom cheated with her,
• 3:49
  Speaker 2: cheated on her with a person who was on the
• 3:52
  Speaker 2: show and kind of their friend. So he cheated on Ariana.
• 3:55
  Speaker 2: And her name is Raquel, but she goes by Quel,
• 3:57
  Speaker 2: but her name is actually Rachel. So this is who
• 3:59
  Speaker 2: we're dealing with. We're dealing with people who opportunity something else.

  Speaker 2: So it was announced so in season I think it
• 4:05
  Speaker 2: was season eight. I could be wrong. No word season eight.

  Speaker 2: Any it does matter. So so vander Pump was about
• 4:10
  Speaker 2: to come out with their new season, and it was
• 4:12
  Speaker 2: it was announced that Ariana and Tom were breaking up
• 4:16
  Speaker 2: just before the new season started, and it was because
• 4:18
  Speaker 2: of this him cheating on her. They were living together,
• 4:21
  Speaker 2: and he was cheating on her with this person right
• 4:24
  Speaker 2: under her nose in their house, and so we got
• 4:28
  Speaker 2: to see. Now none of this happened on camera, and

  Speaker 2: so this created all this anticipation for us watching him
• 4:35
  Speaker 2: flirting with Raquel, him interacting, but then still going home
• 4:39
  Speaker 2: to arianas them, Ariana and Nott having no idea what's happening,
• 4:43
  Speaker 2: and so we are as viewers piecing this altogether. And
• 4:46
  Speaker 2: then towards the end of the season is where then
• 4:48
  Speaker 2: everything broke and we see them living together and it's
• 4:51
  Speaker 2: really it's uncomfortable to watch, but interesting. And one of

  Speaker 2: the things that happened from this was this devotion to
• 4:58
  Speaker 2: Ariana because Tom really, really really did her dirty, not
• 5:01
  Speaker 2: only by cheating on her with this person, but the
• 5:04
  Speaker 2: way he could not take accountability, watching him not being
• 5:07
  Speaker 2: able to admit what he did, not being able to
• 5:10
  Speaker 2: really and us and us having this sympathy for Arianna

  Speaker 2: because she's very likable, and so this made her this
• 5:18
  Speaker 2: And when you go over the New York Times.

  Speaker 1: You know I read this article. Yes, how Tom sand

  Speaker 1: of All became the most hated man in the world,

  Speaker 1: because I take the New York Times I have I
• 5:28
  Speaker 1: subscribe to, and I happened to see it. And this

  Speaker 1: was quite some time ago, and I was reading this

  Speaker 1: going what in the world? Yes, how did how did

  Speaker 1: this make it to the New But it's was fascinating
• 5:42
  Speaker 1: in that he this ruined his life.

  Speaker 2: It did, it did, and and and and and and

  Speaker 2: then it elevated her. And after this she became this darling.

  Speaker 2: She got all of these commercial deals, She got to
• 5:55
  Speaker 2: be on in Chicago on Broadway, and then she got
• 5:59
  Speaker 2: to be the host of Love Island USA. So it's

  Speaker 2: a show based in the UK. But before this, I
• 6:04
  Speaker 2: think it was moderately popular. But everyone's fell in love
• 6:07
  Speaker 2: with Ariana. And now she's the host of this show
• 6:10
  Speaker 2: about the messiness of relationships and she represents this right.

  Speaker 2: She's this icon of someone who has been through a
• 6:16
  Speaker 2: really ugly relation or situation, relationship and watching it on
• 6:20
  Speaker 2: unravel and now she gets to be empowered, I think,
• 6:23
  Speaker 2: and show up in this way. And it has made
• 6:25
  Speaker 2: this is what has made Love Island really really popular.

  Speaker 2: It was already kind of popular, but Arianna is why

  Speaker 2: this is popular now. And this is why I watched,

  Speaker 2: because I was watching Band of Pump Rules and I

  Speaker 2: saw this all play out. And when she became the

  Speaker 2: host of Love Island, I was like, do I watch

  Speaker 2: this for her? And I didn't, and then this is

  Speaker 2: one of the reasons why I decided to keep watching.

  Speaker 2: And she's not on every episode, but she's lovely and
• 6:45
  Speaker 2: I do think she really I don't know what it

  Speaker 2: was like before, but in my mind, she definitely elevates

  Speaker 2: the show. The other thing that was interesting about Tom

  Speaker 2: is he's continued to go on other reality shows after
• 6:54
  Speaker 2: this to try and continue to be relevant. And so

  Speaker 2: he was on a show called Special Forces, which I

  Speaker 2: don't know if he watches. It's so much fun. It's

  Speaker 2: about this military training and these reality the stars go on.

  Speaker 2: It's really fun anyway, so he actually got cut. He

  Speaker 2: made it almost all the way through the training and

  Speaker 2: these these military guys cut him because of his narcissistic
• 7:14
  Speaker 2: tendencies and they're like, this guy cannot be trusted. That

  Speaker 2: was amazing to watch. And then and then recently he

  Speaker 2: was actually in the news last week because he's dated
• 7:24
  Speaker 2: a few people since Arianna, and there's this video of
• 7:27
  Speaker 2: him that completely unhinged where he's yelling at his girlfriend's father.

  Speaker 2: He is a monster. And so anyway, if you're into

  Speaker 2: movie Night. So what happens is, you know, we had

  Speaker 2: these couples and we put them in different situations and

  Speaker 2: we uncouple them, and we couple them much I'll get

  Speaker 2: into in the next couple of weeks. So what happened was,

  Speaker 2: at one point they separated the couple so that they
• 8:20
  Speaker 2: bring in what they call bombshells to tempt the couples.

  Speaker 2: And movie night is where we get to see clips
• 8:26
  Speaker 2: of what happened when everybody was separated, So it means
• 8:28
  Speaker 2: we get to watch people do things they didn't think
• 8:30
  Speaker 2: we're going to be caught on camera, and then people
• 8:32
  Speaker 2: yell each other about it, so you get to take sides.

  Speaker 2: But that's what we're looking forward to tonight. And then

  Speaker 2: my drinking game this week is Love Island word of
• 8:41
  Speaker 2: the week. We're learning about this word called closed off,
• 8:44
  Speaker 2: So you're going to take a drink each time someone
• 8:46
  Speaker 2: says closed off. And what this means is is a
• 8:49
  Speaker 2: couple on a Love Island becomes exclusive. Over the next
• 8:52
  Speaker 2: few weeks, I'm going to teach you different words from
• 8:54
  Speaker 2: Love Island, but this is the word we're learning this
• 8:56
  Speaker 2: week because we're at the point where now a couple
• 8:58
  Speaker 2: should start being exclusive. I don't really know what that
