- 0:12Shannon Jean: Yeah yeah i like 800 episodes better i know same yeah if you if you told me
- 0:17Shannon Jean: 12 years ago that hey someday we're going to be sitting here recording our 800
- 0:20Shannon Jean: episode you know what i would have said you're absolutely right
- 0:23Dave Hamilton: Yeah why wouldn't we why wouldn't we have recorded our 800.
- 0:27Shannon Jean: Yeah absolutely yeah i'm excited about it yeah same Greetings,
- 0:30Dave Hamilton: Folks. Speaking of 800 episodes and welcome to Business Brain,
- 0:34Dave Hamilton: the show where we take some ideas, we dissect them, we crunch them,
- 0:37Dave Hamilton: we use them to tune our business brains and keep on living our charmed lives.
- 0:44Dave Hamilton: Our sponsors today include NordLayer.com slash AI-Scout slash BusinessBrain.
- 0:51Dave Hamilton: You can just always click the links in the show notes at BusinessBrain.show. It makes it way easier.
- 0:55Dave Hamilton: But they help you understand, govern and protect your AI usage.
- 0:58Dave Hamilton: It's very cool what they do.
- 0:59Dave Hamilton: And for your company so you can see things company-wide. And then also hymns.com
- 1:04Dave Hamilton: slash businessbrain, where you can get a personalized, affordable online plan
- 1:08Dave Hamilton: that gets you for men's healthcare.
- 1:10Dave Hamilton: We will talk more in depth about both of those in a little bit.
- 1:13Dave Hamilton: For now, here in Durham, New Hampshire, I'm Dave Hamilton.
- 1:17Shannon Jean: And I'm Shannon Jean. I'm up here at our Riverhouse this week in the Sierra
- 1:22Shannon Jean: foothills. Yeah. I love it up here.
- 1:23Dave Hamilton: Congrats on 800, man. Well, I mean, we haven't gotten to the end. Same to you.
- 1:26Shannon Jean: Yeah. Congrats on, yeah, we're in the first quarter of 800.
- 1:30Dave Hamilton: Yeah, we started. I think we've started recording 800.
- 1:32Shannon Jean: No, it's great. Congrats. I love it. I love doing this show.
- 1:35Shannon Jean: I just commented today before we get started. We've already been talking for
- 1:38Shannon Jean: like a half an hour, right? We, I was like, we could just talk all afternoon
- 1:43Shannon Jean: because it's like, oh, business, business, business, AI, AI, AI.
- 1:46Dave Hamilton: That's it.
- 1:47Shannon Jean: It's so good. I love it.
- 1:49Dave Hamilton: And this will be our business, business, business episode. And then Friday,
- 1:54Dave Hamilton: I will be our a, a, a, a episode.
- 1:56Dave Hamilton: Hey, I've got a tip for everybody out there, especially if you have small children.
- 2:01Dave Hamilton: I don't, I, I, Jen, I have a general rule that I don't tell other people how to parent.
- 2:07Dave Hamilton: There are many, many, many great ways and methods and, uh, uh,
- 2:13Dave Hamilton: practices of parenting.
- 2:15Dave Hamilton: And i see examples of them all the time however one of the best things we did
- 2:20Dave Hamilton: for our kids was making them call for chinese food oh that's very good anytime
- 2:27Dave Hamilton: we did and it wasn't just chinese food but you know it's a,
- 2:30Dave Hamilton: it's a nice soundbite to say hey parents make your kids call for chinese food
- 2:34Dave Hamilton: yes room service any of those things.
- 2:37Dave Hamilton: The idea of putting them on the phone with someone they don't know what's going
- 2:41Dave Hamilton: to be on the other end and, you know, having to explain something and,
- 2:47Dave Hamilton: get facts correct and align on something in a high-pressure situation because
- 2:52Dave Hamilton: calling for takeout is a high-pressure situation.
- 2:55Dave Hamilton: I know the stakes are relatively low, but it's a perfect scenario. Right.
- 3:00Dave Hamilton: And our kids thank us routinely for that uh because they're not afraid to get
- 3:07Dave Hamilton: on the phone with people and so many people uh their age and even like my kids
- 3:12Dave Hamilton: aren't technically millennials they're
- 3:14Dave Hamilton: uh whatever they are but what's it,
- 3:17Dave Hamilton: x and y something i don't know yeah whatever they are but uh but you know they're
- 3:22Dave Hamilton: like millennials are afraid to get on the phone you know some of them obviously there's.
- 3:26Shannon Jean: There's it is a great tip and i it's anything like that like you we would travel
- 3:33Shannon Jean: a lot with our kids and they'd be like hey can we get more pillows and well
- 3:35Shannon Jean: yeah absolutely call them up all down
- 3:38Dave Hamilton: Don't be afraid to pick up the freaking phone.
- 3:41Shannon Jean: Yeah and the other thing we used to do is i used to give my kids the tip like
- 3:45Shannon Jean: especially with cash so i would say oh here go give the here's the driver he's
- 3:49Shannon Jean: going to get our car around here here's five dollars you go give them to that
- 3:52Shannon Jean: you know you give them that so you're just trying to get that interaction with
- 3:56Shannon Jean: adults and building their confidence uh a great way to start like we i don't
- 4:00Shannon Jean: like to give money to people on the street but i'd love to give money to musicians
- 4:04Shannon Jean: or people performing on the street or in the subway or whatever and so i would
- 4:08Shannon Jean: give my kid here here's five bucks go drop it in the bucket and thank that person for making this
- 4:14Shannon Jean: space more more enjoyable but it is it's just a great tip you can't go wrong with it yep I love it
- 4:20Dave Hamilton: All right that's that's my first tip for the day nice second tip for the day
- 4:24Dave Hamilton: is this is for all of us not for I mean that one was for all of us too but not
- 4:28Dave Hamilton: for our kids although you could tell your kids this to,
- 4:31Dave Hamilton: leave if you if you have a zoom account like the you know zoom video conferencing
- 4:36Dave Hamilton: thing that we all use and you probably pay for I,
- 4:40Dave Hamilton: Leave Zoom open on your computer all day long.
- 4:45Dave Hamilton: Anytime you join, certainly when you're in a Zoom meeting, right?
- 4:48Dave Hamilton: It takes the transcript and it does the AI thing, but it leaves you with a transcript.
- 4:53Dave Hamilton: I feed, in fact, I just have Claude always looking at my folder of Zoom transcripts, right?
- 4:59Dave Hamilton: It learns things from it. It's great.
- 5:03Dave Hamilton: When you join uh you know google meet or,
- 5:07Dave Hamilton: microsoft teams meeting if zoom is open in the background most of the time it'll
- 5:11Dave Hamilton: be like hey you just joined another meeting do you want me to transcribe that
- 5:16Dave Hamilton: one too and the answer is yes it can
- 5:19Dave Hamilton: listen to your computer sound and figure out you're one speaker and the other
- 5:23Dave Hamilton: person's the other it obviously doesn't know names because it's not zoom so
- 5:26Dave Hamilton: it can't see that but you can tell that tell it that afterwards,
- 5:29Dave Hamilton: and it works great and And if it doesn't notice that you're on a call, that's OK, too.
- 5:35Dave Hamilton: You can tell it. You can go into my notes and tell it record or transcribe this call at man.
- 5:43Dave Hamilton: I use this all the time. Yeah.
- 5:45Shannon Jean: Yeah. It's a great tip. I use WhisperSync or WhisperFlow. I always forget.
- 5:50Shannon Jean: Is it WhisperFlow or WhisperSync? WhisperFlow.
- 5:52Shannon Jean: I love WhisperFlow. It's like a game changer back iOS app as well. Got it.
- 5:57Shannon Jean: And it's the best, I think, voice to text. It has a built-in note taker.
- 6:01Shannon Jean: Two key things about the Zoom idea and the WhisperFlow. Sure.
- 6:06Shannon Jean: They're not in your meeting, right? They're pulling the sound from your Mac
- 6:09Shannon Jean: or your computer, which is great.
- 6:12Dave Hamilton: No one knows that you're doing this now. I mean, there might be some legalities
- 6:16Dave Hamilton: in your jurisdiction. Figure that out for yourself.
- 6:18Shannon Jean: I live in California. Of course, there's some legalities.
- 6:20Dave Hamilton: Yeah, naturally.
- 6:21Shannon Jean: But one of the tricks you do is to help identify speakers is I always say hello
- 6:28Shannon Jean: to each person I'm talking to.
- 6:30Shannon Jean: So I say, hey, Dave, great to see you.
- 6:33Shannon Jean: Hey, Shelly, thanks for coming on the call. And I know at least with Whisper,
- 6:40Shannon Jean: with Whisper Flow, it'll then, oh, okay, that's Dave.
- 6:45Shannon Jean: And it'll then track much, much better.
- 6:48Shannon Jean: It figures it out. Yeah. So always do an introduction.
- 6:51Shannon Jean: And I do it all the time. And I use, because I host a bunch of webinars in our mastermind community.
- 6:56Shannon Jean: It's the same thing. I use the same technique to pull a transcript there.
- 7:01Shannon Jean: And I'm always like, hey, John's on the call. Julie's on the call. Bob's on the call.
- 7:05Shannon Jean: And just try to call people out, hoping that they go, oh, yeah, thanks.
- 7:08Dave Hamilton: Great. And then it identifies it. They self-identify. That's true. Yeah.
- 7:13Shannon Jean: Works out pretty good.
- 7:14Dave Hamilton: I mean, also, you could just say, hey, can we go around and each say our names
- 7:19Dave Hamilton: so that everyone's AI agents that are recording know who is who?
- 7:24Dave Hamilton: There's nothing wrong with that in today's world either.
- 7:27Shannon Jean: The interesting thing is maybe even just a few months ago, every call you would
- 7:33Shannon Jean: get on, it would be like, oh, here's Firefly and here's this AR note taker. Here's Otter. Yeah.
- 7:39Shannon Jean: And that's kind of dropped a lot as they've gone to local versions that are
- 7:44Shannon Jean: not as intrusive of having five note takers.
- 7:47Dave Hamilton: That's right. That's true. I forgot about that. Yeah. Granola was a sponsor
- 7:51Dave Hamilton: of ours for a while and did the same thing.
- 7:53Dave Hamilton: And that works really well, too. It's a great app.
- 7:55Shannon Jean: Yeah. And I think one of the nice things is like you're talking about Zoom and for Whisperflow is...
- 8:03Shannon Jean: They just added that, right? And so you're already using these apps.
- 8:07Dave Hamilton: Yeah.
- 8:07Shannon Jean: And I use Zoom all day long too. So having it there, just monitoring,
- 8:11Shannon Jean: having the app open. Just don't quit it. It'll just pop right up.
- 8:14Shannon Jean: That's it. Just don't quit it.
- 8:15Dave Hamilton: Just leave it. I have a, maybe this is, this is definitely another tip.
- 8:21Dave Hamilton: I use an app called Keyboard Maestro because I'm a nerd on my Mac.
- 8:24Dave Hamilton: But really what it does, I mean, it lets me script things and it's very simple to use.
- 8:30Shannon Jean: But- Do you have a box? What's that little, Oh,
- 8:34Dave Hamilton: A stream deck?
- 8:35Shannon Jean: Stream deck. Do you use it with the stream deck?
- 8:37Dave Hamilton: I don't use keyboard maestro. Well, I mean, kind of. But while we're recording
- 8:41Dave Hamilton: this podcast, Shannon, I have a stream deck that lets me trigger if I push this
- 8:46Dave Hamilton: button and then I pull up the level, you're going to hear the vamp.
- 8:50Shannon Jean: Oh, nice.
- 8:52Dave Hamilton: That's how that works. Oh, yeah. I couldn't live without my stream deck.
- 8:56Dave Hamilton: And yes, keyboard maestro is wired to that for sure. In fact,
- 8:59Dave Hamilton: it was just used there for 100%.
- 9:01Dave Hamilton: Um, but what I do is I have a begin the day script in keyboard maestro that
- 9:10Dave Hamilton: launches all the apps that I want, including,
- 9:14Dave Hamilton: I've also found that like Safari, uh, and, and, and any web browser will, uh,
- 9:20Dave Hamilton: if you leave it open for days and days and days, your web browser will,
- 9:23Dave Hamilton: will start to become a memory hog.
- 9:25Dave Hamilton: So my begin the day script, the first thing it does is quit my email client
- 9:30Dave Hamilton: and all my web browsers, any web browser I use.
- 9:32Dave Hamilton: And then it relaunches all of them because I want them running.
- 9:35Dave Hamilton: And it launches Zoom and all of the other things. That's sweet. Yep.
- 9:39Shannon Jean: Yeah, that's so good.
- 9:40Dave Hamilton: Yeah. No, that Stream Deck is – so for those of you that aren't watching,
- 9:44Dave Hamilton: I did it. I can't believe it.
- 9:46Dave Hamilton: I'm the one. I do it all the time. I know, but I'm usually the one that catches
- 9:49Dave Hamilton: you. So you've got to catch me when I do it. No, a Stream Deck –,
- 9:53Dave Hamilton: There's they come in different sizes. The one that I have has 15 little buttons
- 9:56Dave Hamilton: on it, and they're actually little screens. Actually, it's one big screen, but it doesn't matter.
- 10:00Dave Hamilton: They seem like they're little screens and you can program it to have the buttons
- 10:04Dave Hamilton: do whatever you want to do. So obviously I have a button for vamp song and,
- 10:09Dave Hamilton: you know, and then played the vamp song, but I have other things, too.
- 10:12Dave Hamilton: And uh and so it it's a usb device it plugs into your mac and or your windows
- 10:18Dave Hamilton: computer and it lets you trigger whatever you want to trigger with it uh i it's
- 10:23Dave Hamilton: i i don't know how i would i i couldn't podcast without it that's for sure.
- 10:27Shannon Jean: It's awesome yeah great tool great tool
- 10:28Dave Hamilton: It is all right uh i have,
- 10:33Dave Hamilton: i have a a business idea i have not implemented it yet so maybe this is crazy
- 10:37Dave Hamilton: business idea um that we could all implement it's but it's not a separate business
- 10:42Dave Hamilton: it's something we would do inside our businesses so i want to share that in a minute uh the
- 10:46Dave Hamilton: next thing that i want to do is talk about our sponsors.
- 10:50Dave Hamilton: Because, look, when somebody leaves your company, you've got a checklist, right?
- 10:55Dave Hamilton: You kill their email or at least change the password, right?
- 10:57Dave Hamilton: You change the password or pull them out of Slack.
- 11:00Dave Hamilton: You rotate all the other shared passwords that everybody else has, right?
- 11:04Dave Hamilton: And then you're done, right? Except what about the months of company research,
- 11:10Dave Hamilton: client details, and internal docs they fed into an AI tool on their personal account?
- 11:15Dave Hamilton: That's still out there, and they still have it, right? That's the blind spot
- 11:20Dave Hamilton: that our sponsor NordLayer AI Scout closes.
- 11:23Dave Hamilton: It's the visibility layer for enterprise AI.
- 11:26Dave Hamilton: It shows you which AI tools your team is actually using across the web and desktop.
- 11:31Dave Hamilton: It catches sensitive data, source code, API keys, customer lists before it reaches a public model.
- 11:38Dave Hamilton: It keeps a searchable audit trail of who used what and when.
- 11:43Dave Hamilton: And it'll tell you whether the seats that you're paying for are actually being
- 11:47Dave Hamilton: used or whether you're funding your employees' side hustles with your company AI budget.
- 11:52Dave Hamilton: See every AI interaction. Decide what happens next. That's the charmed life, right?
- 11:58Dave Hamilton: No surprises on off-boarding day. And that's where our sponsor,
- 12:02Dave Hamilton: NordLayer AI Scout, can help.
- 12:04Dave Hamilton: Find out what your team is actually doing with AI at nordlayer.com slash AI
- 12:10Dave Hamilton: dash scout slash business brain. We'll put that link in the show notes so it's
- 12:14Dave Hamilton: super easy for you to just click and check it out. You're going to want to.
- 12:18Dave Hamilton: It's very cool what they're doing there. And our thanks to Nordlayer AI Scout
- 12:22Dave Hamilton: for sponsoring this episode.
- 12:24Dave Hamilton: And, you know, founders ship version two of everything, right?
- 12:27Dave Hamilton: The product, the pricing page, the podcast, the onboarding flow, right?
- 12:31Dave Hamilton: Most of us are still running version one of ourselves, though.
- 12:36Dave Hamilton: There's the guy you are right now, right? And there's the guy you know you could be.
- 12:40Dave Hamilton: Weight loss by HIMSS is built to close that gap.
- 12:44Dave Hamilton: Access to a range of FDA-approved GLP-1 medications, including the WeGovie pill and the WeGovie pen.
- 12:51Dave Hamilton: With WeGovie, you can lose up to 20% of your body weight.
- 12:55Dave Hamilton: In a clinical trial, people lost
- 12:56Dave Hamilton: an average of 14% body weight at 64 weeks alongside diet and exercise.
- 13:02Dave Hamilton: And it's a real plan, an online consultation with a licensed provider,
- 13:06Dave Hamilton: plus nutrition and lifestyle guidance, not just a prescription.
- 13:09Dave Hamilton: And hey, good luck, right?
- 13:11Dave Hamilton: I've personally been in beta since like 2017. And the release notes just say minor fixes, right?
- 13:17Dave Hamilton: That's the Charmed Life, putting yourself on the roadmap, Be prepared,

- 13:58Dave Hamilton: Go check it out. And our thanks to HIMSS for sponsoring this episode.
- 14:02Dave Hamilton: All right. So I have this crazy idea, Shannon. Yep. But I want to workshop it
- 14:07Dave Hamilton: together because I don't know.
- 14:09Dave Hamilton: It's raw. It's new. The idea is when I wind up with one of my teammates,
- 14:20Dave Hamilton: right, one of the people that works with us,
- 14:22Dave Hamilton: and they're working on something,
- 14:26Dave Hamilton: and they just happen to complain about, like, ah, you know, this always sucks, right?
- 14:31Dave Hamilton: A thing that they have, a point of friction in their workflow that they have
- 14:39Dave Hamilton: just accepted is always going to be that point of friction.
- 14:44Shannon Jean: Sure.
- 14:44Dave Hamilton: Oftentimes.
- 14:45Shannon Jean: It's always been this way.
- 14:46Dave Hamilton: It's always been this way. So therefore, it will always be this way.
- 14:50Dave Hamilton: It's kind of, it's like, you know, I mean, everything can't be perfect.
- 14:53Dave Hamilton: Like, it's a job. Like, I get it.
- 14:55Dave Hamilton: And that's true for a lot of things. Like, it's fine. Like, it's how it works.
- 14:59Dave Hamilton: But often when someone mentions that to me or I mentioned that to someone,
- 15:05Dave Hamilton: they'll say, well, but why don't you just and and then there's an answer.
- 15:11Dave Hamilton: And it dawns on me that if only we made it a practice to talk about those things,
- 15:20Dave Hamilton: but not in a way that like.
- 15:24Dave Hamilton: Is a complaint session but like a nitpick session or a friction here's my points of friction barriers.
- 15:32Shannon Jean: That i'm that whatever you want to call it
- 15:34Dave Hamilton: Yeah yeah no it's hard to identify these things that we've just learned to accept
- 15:38Dave Hamilton: and and and work work past right
- 15:41Dave Hamilton: it oftentimes it's something that you know when someone's watching over the
- 15:45Dave Hamilton: shoulder your shoulder you know whatever you say ah yeah hang on one second
- 15:48Dave Hamilton: well i just get through this stupid thing it's like
- 15:50Dave Hamilton: why are you trying to get through that stupid thing like what why is that even
- 15:53Dave Hamilton: in your way why could we take it out of your way and then sometimes,
- 15:57Dave Hamilton: oftentimes the answer is yes you just need another brain you need another set of eyes,
- 16:02Dave Hamilton: and so i'm wondering if,
- 16:05Dave Hamilton: you have one day a month at like in in a staff meeting and,
- 16:10Dave Hamilton: and and as i've been thinking about this my my initial thought was one one staff
- 16:14Dave Hamilton: meeting a month where everybody shares their nitpicks but i'm wondering if maybe
- 16:19Dave Hamilton: you make it part of every staff meeting but only one person shares their nitpicks because,
- 16:25Dave Hamilton: the focus needs to be entirely that yeah right on the person who is is is lodging the nitpick,
- 16:33Dave Hamilton: and so everybody can work on solving whereas if we're all just waiting for our
- 16:37Dave Hamilton: turn to share our nitpicks nobody's going to help each other solve and i'm over
- 16:41Dave Hamilton: generalizing but you know i get.
- 16:42Shannon Jean: It yeah you're not yeah you're thinking about your problem more than yeah
- 16:45Dave Hamilton: Yeah so your problem's not on the list for today so you didn't even think about
- 16:48Dave Hamilton: it, right? You didn't bring it up. Yeah. I don't know.
- 16:51Shannon Jean: Like, yeah, I like the idea. I think, um, it's almost, I often feel like I should
- 16:59Shannon Jean: be screen recording everything I do.
- 17:03Dave Hamilton: Yeah.
- 17:03Shannon Jean: Right. And, and then having, sharing how this works. So to your point,
- 17:08Shannon Jean: I think the, I'm already talking about the big takeaway, but the big takeaway
- 17:13Shannon Jean: from what you just said to me is having another set of eyes on it.
- 17:18Dave Hamilton: Yes.
- 17:19Shannon Jean: That you, it's like shared knowledge. It's like, wait, you don't have to do
- 17:23Shannon Jean: that. You can do, there's such a faster way to do it or, or a more,
- 17:28Shannon Jean: whatever, more efficient, or you can eliminate these steps this way. Yeah.
- 17:31Dave Hamilton: Constantly iterating on the workflow. Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:35Shannon Jean: Constantly thinking of how do I automate these things? How do I simplify?
- 17:40Shannon Jean: How do I remove steps and make it faster, easier, less of a barrier,
- 17:47Dave Hamilton: Right?
- 17:48Shannon Jean: So I don't know waiting for a meeting, but I don't know if it's,
- 17:53Shannon Jean: everybody has to record, you know, I'm a knowledge worker, so it's different for me.
- 17:57Shannon Jean: But if you had, like, if you're an HVAC tech or whatever, generator installer,
- 18:04Shannon Jean: having someone come out and watch the process, that can go, oh,
- 18:10Shannon Jean: wait, I figured that out a long time ago.
- 18:11Shannon Jean: You can, this is how you route that cable, or this is how you do this,
- 18:15Shannon Jean: or looking at the screen recording.
- 18:18Shannon Jean: For me, I would do a screen recording and share it like in Slack and say,
- 18:22Shannon Jean: tell me how I can make this better.
- 18:23Dave Hamilton: Yeah. Yeah. Or, or if you're doing it in a team meeting, literally sharing your
- 18:29Dave Hamilton: screen and saying, here's the thing I do.
- 18:31Dave Hamilton: Anybody see any way I could improve this? And I think I love that.
- 18:35Dave Hamilton: Yeah. And I think there's two parts to this. One is doing that.
- 18:40Dave Hamilton: And the other part is normalizing things.
- 18:45Dave Hamilton: About optimizing workflow efficiency because i can see in the wrong workplace,
- 18:51Dave Hamilton: or if you handle this wrong like even in the right workplace like if if let's
- 18:55Dave Hamilton: say let's take backbeat media right somebody,
- 18:59Dave Hamilton: you know one of not me let's say somebody else says okay i'm going to share my screen and,
- 19:04Dave Hamilton: i start nitpicking them not to help them improve their workflow but to say,
- 19:11Dave Hamilton: that's not the right way to do this or that's not the right you know as soon
- 19:14Dave Hamilton: as you start doing that people are going to clam up right they shut down and
- 19:18Dave Hamilton: they're yeah of course they are they're gonna be like you know what i've been
- 19:20Dave Hamilton: getting my job done for you dude for like years why are you now telling me i'm doing it wrong
- 19:26Dave Hamilton: that's not what this is no this is helping the person
- 19:30Dave Hamilton: do it faster or more efficiently And.
- 19:36Dave Hamilton: There's a fine line and a large gap between faster and more efficiently and
- 19:43Dave Hamilton: objectively better, right?
- 19:46Dave Hamilton: Yes, yes. And you can't offer the objectively better all the time.
- 19:51Dave Hamilton: You have to be very careful when you offer that.
- 19:55Shannon Jean: Yeah, because you can't micromanage them.
- 19:56Dave Hamilton: That's the problem.
- 19:57Shannon Jean: It takes away their agency, and they won't be happy. Right. And you're just
- 20:01Shannon Jean: like, well, you just do it.
- 20:02Dave Hamilton: Yeah, F you, you just do it, right, yeah, that's it. Yeah, it's gotta be, here's the,
- 20:10Dave Hamilton: here's the the efficiency.
- 20:13Shannon Jean: Yeah that's it and it had like sean here just chimed in uh on off youtube it's
- 20:18Shannon Jean: yeah if you have a nitpick you also have to have a solution with it well
- 20:21Dave Hamilton: And that's what it would that's what this is people looking for right yeah oh
- 20:24Dave Hamilton: i see yeah but even even if i have a.
- 20:27Shannon Jean: Solution you may not have it yeah you may not have the solution yeah but you
- 20:30Shannon Jean: have to be the reason to what i think what you're trying to create is a framework that oh this is normal
- 20:38Shannon Jean: that I present the things I do with my job and I'm open to receiving this input
- 20:44Shannon Jean: because I'm going to be expected to give input on somebody else the next time.
- 20:49Shannon Jean: Yes, I'm going to be, yeah.
- 20:50Shannon Jean: Yeah, you're constantly thinking, okay, I'm going to help this guy eventually
- 20:55Shannon Jean: because we all have that, well, I don't know, I'll speak for myself,
- 20:58Shannon Jean: but I think many of us have the over the shoulder like, I wouldn't do it that way.
- 21:03Dave Hamilton: I wouldn't do it that way. And that's fine.
- 21:06Dave Hamilton: And I think that that's what Sean is is trying to convey here is like,
- 21:11Dave Hamilton: don't say what you're doing is helping that person improve their process, not do it your way.
- 21:19Dave Hamilton: No, but helping their way be the most efficient.
- 21:23Dave Hamilton: And really what you're looking for is those things. Well, hey,
- 21:26Dave Hamilton: oh, do you not know about this other feature that's here? Yeah, that's right.
- 21:31Dave Hamilton: In my case, like if I'm watching somebody use one of our custom pieces of software
- 21:35Dave Hamilton: or something, and I realize that they're like navigating around something,
- 21:38Dave Hamilton: it's like, oh, man, I could add a feature that like. Yeah.
- 21:42Shannon Jean: That's like the
- 21:43Dave Hamilton: Third side of the triangle here. Like, oh, OK, right. Like those kinds.
- 21:47Dave Hamilton: That's what I'm looking for with this.
- 21:49Dave Hamilton: But I know that nobody wants to be micromanaged. And so we all are like, look over my shoulder.
- 21:54Shannon Jean: Yeah, I often will just say, like, especially if I'm showing someone.
- 21:58Shannon Jean: How to do something for the first time, whatever. I'll just,
- 22:00Shannon Jean: I'll just say, Hey, this is the way I do it.
- 22:03Dave Hamilton: Yes.
- 22:04Shannon Jean: I, I, you may have a better approach. That's more efficient.
- 22:08Shannon Jean: You may be able to cut a couple of steps because you just, I don't know,
- 22:12Shannon Jean: maybe I have to, just my methodology is not as fast. I don't know, whatever.
- 22:17Shannon Jean: So giving them the permission to, to, you know, you're not showing them,
- 22:23Shannon Jean: this is it. This is the only way we do it.
- 22:25Dave Hamilton: No, this is how I do it. This is how I know how to do it.
- 22:29Shannon Jean: I'd love for you to do it better or more efficient or whatever. So I think it's great.
- 22:34Shannon Jean: I wouldn't use the nitpick, the
- 22:35Shannon Jean: word nitpick, but I would come up with something. I don't know what it is.
- 22:38Dave Hamilton: Yeah, nitpick's the wrong word.
- 22:40Shannon Jean: Something gets positive that's like, oh, we're going to just refine these,
- 22:44Shannon Jean: you know, stuff kind of thing. But I think.
- 22:46Dave Hamilton: Have an efficiency day. Like maybe that's it.
- 22:48Shannon Jean: I love that. Yeah, efficiency day. And I think that is a great,
- 22:52Shannon Jean: although I still love the make your kids, not make, have your kids order Chinese food.
- 22:56Shannon Jean: I think the big takeaway is this sharing, creating this environment,
- 23:03Shannon Jean: this framework to where everybody can share what they're working on and how
- 23:06Shannon Jean: they achieve these things.
- 23:08Dave Hamilton: Yes.
- 23:09Shannon Jean: And welcome input. I don't know the term to put on it, but if you have an idea
- 23:13Shannon Jean: of what we should call this, feedback at businessbrain.show.
- 23:17Shannon Jean: And if you want to download, we're going to expand on this efficiency day concept.
- 23:23Shannon Jean: We're going to build a business blueprint, which is kind of like a business plan for the concept.
- 23:27Shannon Jean: You can find it at businessbrain.show slash blueprints.
- 23:30Dave Hamilton: Like he said, businessbrain.show slash blueprints or blueprint.
- 23:35Dave Hamilton: I think we have it working both ways.
- 23:37Shannon Jean: I think so too.
- 23:37Dave Hamilton: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Thanks for hanging out, folks. Keep living that charmed life
- 23:40Dave Hamilton: and we'll see you on Friday.
- 23:43Shannon Jean: See ya.
