- 0:08Speaker 2: The Worlds of Vegetal podcast Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. But
- 0:19Speaker 2: the big scandal down there is kandava.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Can someone please mention the outrageous flirting that occurred during
- 0:25Speaker 2: Mike's chat with Cynthia Freeland. There might be in Boston,
- 0:29Speaker 2: but it's hot in India.
- 0:30Speaker 4: She was hugging it out with everybody.
- 0:33Speaker 5: I first want to ask how we of the combine?
- 0:35Speaker 5: Did you guys have a gal?
- 0:36Speaker 2: We just talked about its story because he was one
- 0:39Speaker 2: of you know, he's a world traveler. I'm behind him
- 0:42Speaker 2: and I didn't have tsa god, so I'm in a
- 0:44Speaker 2: different line, and but I'm watching him. They were making
- 0:47Speaker 2: him show just a little bit more than he expected.
- 0:49Speaker 2: And the harrim thing that was going on. What circles
- 0:53Speaker 2: does Fred run in when trying to think of something
- 0:55Speaker 2: widely loved or celebrating that.
- 0:57Speaker 1: You don't like.
- 0:58Speaker 2: He came up with zucchini, palm, Why are you ordering zucchini?
- 1:03Speaker 2: But saying, oh, that's right, that's what I got it
- 1:05Speaker 2: wrong with. I totally fretted.
- 1:07Speaker 6: That Oh that that makes it so much better.
- 1:11Speaker 3: But as we learned, I wasn't here Thursday, Mike, because
- 1:13Speaker 3: I was at a funeral.
- 1:14Speaker 2: But no one you know. This is Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 1:18Speaker 7: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals by a Toyota
- 1:21Speaker 7: dot com.
- 1:24Speaker 2: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:28Speaker 2: at j Let's Stadium, and there's a lot to talk about,
- 1:33Speaker 2: not a lot of it having to do with the Patriots,
- 1:36Speaker 2: but some of it. Some big news yesterday and then
- 1:40Speaker 2: what that all means. It's Paul, it's Evan, it's Deuce,
- 1:43Speaker 2: it's Me, it's Matt, and the booth and free agency
- 1:47Speaker 2: is here. Basically, it's the new league. Season hasn't kicked
- 1:51Speaker 2: off yet, but moves are being made, Trades are being made.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Things are happening, players are moving around, and the question
- 1:59Speaker 2: is how much of it will the Patriots be involved in?
- 2:02Speaker 2: So let's let's get right into it. Eight five to
- 2:04Speaker 2: five Pass five hundred is the Hotline podcast at Patriots
- 2:08Speaker 2: dot com as the email address the pay. The Patriots
- 2:10Speaker 2: didn't announce anything yesterday, but there's a report that is
- 2:16Speaker 2: pretty substantial that they have notified Stefan Diggs that they
- 2:21Speaker 2: will release him once the league year opens up next week.
- 2:25Speaker 2: So that's the Patriots news.
- 2:27Speaker 8: Yeah, and you're seeing Digs shout out to teammates and
- 2:30Speaker 8: teammates shouting out to him. So it does seem like
- 2:33Speaker 8: that is a correct report, not surprising. I mean, I
- 2:36Speaker 8: think you knew that that the Stefan Diggs thing was
- 2:38Speaker 8: going to come to a head sooner than later as
- 2:40Speaker 8: free agency approached, and you know, talking to the guys
- 2:43Speaker 8: obviously this morning. I mean my feeling was that you
- 2:46Speaker 8: got what you needed out of Stefan Diggs last year
- 2:48Speaker 8: for sure.
- 2:48Speaker 4: I mean, you needed a reliable guy.
- 2:51Speaker 8: For Drake May in his second season, coming into you know,
- 2:53Speaker 8: a new system with Josh McDaniels.
- 2:55Speaker 4: You needed a leader in that room and you just
- 2:58Speaker 4: needed somebody to set the tone.
- 2:59Speaker 8: And I thought he did an outstanding job, he said,
- 3:01Speaker 8: in the tone of the locker room. On the field,
- 3:03Speaker 8: he was productive, certainly some of the biggest games in
- 3:06Speaker 8: the regular season he came through.
- 3:08Speaker 4: But I think you know this signals they're gonna maybe.
- 3:11Speaker 8: Take a half step back to try to take two
- 3:13Speaker 8: steps forward, and maybe more is on Drake May now
- 3:15Speaker 8: this year to you know, be the leader of that group.
- 3:18Speaker 8: But I think it talking to the guys, I think
- 3:20Speaker 8: we all agree they need two more players now. They
- 3:23Speaker 8: need two receivers.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Even if they kept Diggs, they still needed one.
- 3:27Speaker 8: Yeah, they need now the guy probably if they kept Diggs.
- 3:29Speaker 8: And now I think we're all uh, you know.
- 3:31Speaker 2: So here's my thing. You know, I was thinking about
- 3:35Speaker 2: it on my way up. And I don't know if
- 3:38Speaker 2: this closes the book on Stefan Diggs, because Okay, they're
- 3:43Speaker 2: going to release him, but maybe that's because they couldn't
- 3:46Speaker 2: come to an agreement on a restructure. So what if
- 3:49Speaker 2: he goes out there and there's nothing out there better
- 3:52Speaker 2: than what the Patriots had on the table. Is there
- 3:55Speaker 2: a possibility he'd come back?
- 3:57Speaker 9: The question is is it still on the table? Why
- 4:00Speaker 9: wouldn't it be because they signed Alec Pierce, are traded for.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Aj Berry both we just well, no, I said it,
- 4:05Speaker 2: you said it, but you guys didn't agree that even
- 4:07Speaker 2: if they kept Digs, they still need another player.
- 4:10Speaker 9: Right, but now they're already paid that other like the
- 4:13Speaker 9: other player. I was if they kept Digs, I was
- 4:15Speaker 9: expecting the other player to come in the draft now
- 4:17Speaker 9: that they had like that money was going to a
- 4:20Speaker 9: wide receiver to be at the top of the depth chart.
- 4:22Speaker 9: So if they go out and give twenty eight million
- 4:24Speaker 9: dollars a year to Alex Pearce, then are they still
- 4:27Speaker 9: going to then pay digs a market value contrace. Well,
- 4:32Speaker 9: it's still going to have to be whatever his market value.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Well, no, maybe it was a haircut. I don't know,
- 4:37Speaker 2: like for who now, No.
- 4:39Speaker 9: But I'm like, even if it was a haircut, even
- 4:41Speaker 9: if it was a haircut, it's still going to be
- 4:43Speaker 9: But even if he even if it's a haircut, compared
- 4:45Speaker 9: to what he was going to make, it's still going
- 4:47Speaker 9: to be money, like real money. Like we're not talking
- 4:51Speaker 9: about him coming back to play for eight million dollars, Like,
- 4:54Speaker 9: it's still going to be significant.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Do you know the budget? Like, do you know that
- 4:57Speaker 2: they can't do that?
- 4:58Speaker 10: I'm not saying they can't.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Absolutely could do it, right, I'm just saying that I
- 5:02Speaker 3: think it's I don't think that that's how they're gonna
- 5:04Speaker 3: budget it.
- 5:05Speaker 10: That's all. I'm not saying they can't do it.
- 5:08Speaker 2: So I'm just I'm just saying that, like there's a
- 5:11Speaker 2: chance it might be slim that I don't think, you know,
- 5:14Speaker 2: he goes out there and everybody else says, oh, a
- 5:17Speaker 2: thirty three year old guy, we don't want to pay that,
- 5:21Speaker 2: and he says, you know what, I liked it there
- 5:23Speaker 2: until they came to me. But I like Rabel, I
- 5:27Speaker 2: like the locker room. I might as well go back.
- 5:30Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 4: I mean, he already unfollowed on Instagram, so it's kind
- 5:32Speaker 4: of I know.
- 5:33Speaker 2: But these guys, I mean, really they're very impulsive.
- 5:36Speaker 3: I never say never on these things. I would be
- 5:40Speaker 3: this is as close to never. I don't see that happening.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Market will be like though, That I think is the question.
- 5:46Speaker 8: Yeah, I can only see that happening if nobody really
- 5:48Speaker 8: wants exactly, you know, exactly I think.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I want that.
- 5:51Speaker 3: I don't like that nobody will want him at all.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I think, like literally the only team that would want
- 5:56Speaker 3: him is the Patriot At what price?
- 5:57Speaker 6: Paul, No, No, at any price.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I didn't say that, But what I said, what if
- 6:01Speaker 2: he goes out there and there's nothing better as far
- 6:04Speaker 2: as an offer, But I don't.
- 6:06Speaker 10: I just don't know why you think you would take that?
- 6:08Speaker 2: Really well, I just don't know why the offer.
- 6:10Speaker 9: I don't think the offer from the Patriots would still
- 6:12Speaker 9: necessarily be there because they're gonna pivot like they're gonna
- 6:16Speaker 9: like they're moving.
- 6:16Speaker 1: But don't you.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Don't you think they made the offer in mind that
- 6:20Speaker 2: we're going to get somebody else.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Maybe I don't know why would because I don't think
- 6:25Speaker 3: that they I think that there's.
- 6:27Speaker 2: What you're saying is like, if he accepted the offer
- 6:29Speaker 2: they made, that's it for wide receivers.
- 6:32Speaker 9: No, what I'm saying is that they're not gonna then.
- 6:34Speaker 9: I don't think they were gonna then go turn and
- 6:36Speaker 9: pay out Pierce thirty million dollars a year like the
- 6:40Speaker 9: that there's a difference between we're done at wide receiver
- 6:43Speaker 9: and now maybe we're just gonna go draft a cheaper
- 6:47Speaker 9: player in in the draft, or we're gonna be in
- 6:50Speaker 9: a different tax bracket and free agency.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I don't I would hope they'd be a little bit
- 6:54Speaker 2: more regressive aggressive considering how close they could be.
- 6:59Speaker 8: But you're saying, and there's an offer, I mean, do
- 7:01Speaker 8: we know there's made him an offer. I don't know
- 7:04Speaker 8: that they released. I don't even know that.
- 7:07Speaker 6: There's a couple of things that we don't know.
- 7:09Speaker 3: And I know what the writers are writing is that
- 7:13Speaker 3: the Patriots were interested in having him back, but not
- 7:15Speaker 3: at that number.
- 7:17Speaker 6: I have a lot of skepticism for that. I think
- 7:20Speaker 6: this has as much to.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Do with agreed the age and sort of the I
- 7:27Speaker 3: don't know the tenuous nature of Stefan Diggs's career.
- 7:30Speaker 6: Is that a polite way to put it. It's been a
- 7:32Speaker 6: lot going on right now. No, but I'm not even
- 7:33Speaker 6: talking about what he has going on right now.
- 7:35Speaker 3: I think the Patriots hit a home run with Stefan
- 7:37Speaker 3: Diggs in twenty five and I think they know it too,
- 7:41Speaker 3: and I think that they look at it and say,
- 7:45Speaker 3: ain't going to get any better than that. There's only
- 7:47Speaker 3: one way to go from here in terms of his
- 7:50Speaker 3: history now I get I think I said this about
- 7:53Speaker 3: a month ago. Diggs has made some comments about, you know,
- 7:57Speaker 3: sort of looking back at himself and wondering, why was
- 8:00Speaker 3: I always so difficult?
- 8:01Speaker 6: What There's a chance that he's matured.
- 8:03Speaker 3: He'll be thirty three, and maybe he has sort of
- 8:07Speaker 3: turned a corner with his maturity level. I'm a little
- 8:10Speaker 3: skeptical of that, and I think that his track record
- 8:12Speaker 3: has been good initially gets restless becomes a problem, and
- 8:19Speaker 3: I think that They probably looked at it as much
- 8:21Speaker 3: for that reason as anything to do with the money,
- 8:24Speaker 3: because the money is extremely reasonable, which is why I'm
- 8:28Speaker 3: very skeptical of no one's going to get like so
- 8:31Speaker 3: they didn't want to give him twenty million, So what
- 8:33Speaker 3: did they want to give him?
- 8:35Speaker 2: Well, what if it was, like we talked about this
- 8:37Speaker 2: last week, you know, a veteran incentive Leyden type of thing.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Yeah, he's not taken that right, Yeah, like not when
- 8:43Speaker 3: he has options, like if he has no options and
- 8:46Speaker 3: he like, I just don't think guys like that take
- 8:49Speaker 3: like usually they don't usually in sensive laden deals.
- 8:53Speaker 9: I just think, you know, we've heard a lot about
- 8:55Speaker 9: the money, and I understand that that's usually the biggest
- 8:59Speaker 9: thing here. I think all kind of hit on it there.
- 9:02Speaker 9: I think that there's a lot that goes into the
- 9:05Speaker 9: Stefan Diggs experience and know a lot, and I think
- 9:09Speaker 9: last year we saw some of it. They were able
- 9:12Speaker 9: to power through a lot of it and keep winning
- 9:15Speaker 9: in spite of it. But at the end of the
- 9:17Speaker 9: season last year there was a lot going on with
- 9:19Speaker 9: that guy.
- 9:20Speaker 4: At the beginning of the season yeah too, Yeah, And
- 9:23Speaker 4: I think that.
- 9:23Speaker 6: Probably times in the middle that we don't even know
- 9:25Speaker 6: about it.
- 9:26Speaker 9: And he was always here for a good time, not
- 9:28Speaker 9: a long time. He was always a bridge to when
- 9:31Speaker 9: we're gonna hammer down and solidified, like who's Drake May's
- 9:35Speaker 9: guy for the next four or five years. It was
- 9:38Speaker 9: never going to be that long of a thing with
- 9:40Speaker 9: Stefan Diggs.
- 9:43Speaker 8: Everything, Sorry, Paul, I just thought to me, is everything
- 9:45Speaker 8: it's through the Drake lens of giving Drake him and
- 9:48Speaker 8: you know, showing Drake what this kind of player looks like,
- 9:51Speaker 8: What does this player look like in practice? How do
- 9:53Speaker 8: you develop that kind of rapport with that kind of player.
- 9:56Speaker 8: I was blown away by Stefan Diggs. Like route running ability,
- 9:59Speaker 8: it's still even coming off acl when we were in
- 10:01Speaker 8: training camp, when we were in Minnesota stood out to me.
- 10:05Speaker 4: But like I said.
- 10:05Speaker 8: Earlier, I think now more goes on Drake and he's
- 10:07Speaker 8: going to have to, you know, make up some of
- 10:09Speaker 8: the difference with some of these guys. If it is
- 10:11Speaker 8: you know, a new player like Alec Pierce or a
- 10:12Speaker 8: rookie that you're going to now have to lean on.
- 10:14Speaker 8: I mean, we said we were just throwing out there
- 10:16Speaker 8: like Concepcion is that kind of player at the end
- 10:18Speaker 8: of the first round. That's going to play inside. But
- 10:21Speaker 8: there's going to be a learning curve and it's going
- 10:22Speaker 8: to be up to Drake May to try to get
- 10:24Speaker 8: him eventually up to the kind of level that Yeah,
- 10:26Speaker 8: the fan.
- 10:27Speaker 9: I mean from a football standpoint, that's the biggest risk
- 10:29Speaker 9: that they're taking here is I mean ste Von Diggs
- 10:31Speaker 9: had fifty five first downs for this team last year.
- 10:33Speaker 9: You know, he was a chain moving you know, big
- 10:36Speaker 9: time chain moving piece, you know, guy that third and
- 10:40Speaker 9: six with the game on the line, like Drake May
- 10:42Speaker 9: had somebody to go to and had a guy that
- 10:44Speaker 9: he could rely on consistently in those positions. You know,
- 10:48Speaker 9: if they signed Ali Pierce, I think we're all on
- 10:49Speaker 9: board with that. I think he's a really good player,
- 10:51Speaker 9: but that's not his game. No, ALB Pierce is not.
- 10:54Speaker 6: They need a volume guy.
- 10:55Speaker 10: They need a volume guy, they need a chain mover,
- 10:58Speaker 10: whatever you want to call somebody.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Somebody made a good point on one of Paul's shows.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I think it was Albert Breer this morning about Pierce. Yeah,
- 11:04Speaker 2: and he said in the Colts weaponry, he's probably like
- 11:08Speaker 2: the fourth guy, fourth to fifth guy, and could that
- 11:11Speaker 2: have kept down his production, whereas if he was now
- 11:16Speaker 2: on a team that didn't have all the weapons that
- 11:18Speaker 2: the Colts have, that maybe the production would naturally go up.
- 11:21Speaker 2: And it wasn't a matter of so, it wasn't a
- 11:23Speaker 2: matter of ability, it was just, you know, opportuning.
- 11:27Speaker 9: I just don't think he's just not a chain mover,
- 11:29Speaker 9: like he's a deep threat receiver that I think you're
- 11:32Speaker 9: right that if he's targeted one hundred and twenty times
- 11:35Speaker 9: instead of eighty eight times like he was last year,
- 11:37Speaker 9: the production will go up.
- 11:38Speaker 10: But he's going to be targeted down the field.
- 11:40Speaker 6: And it depends what you consider production.
- 11:43Speaker 2: I think volume of catches, a number of catches, because
- 11:46Speaker 2: he had over twenty yards a catch.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Yeah, so but does everything else go down? Probably the
- 11:52Speaker 3: average soverage, that's what you have to weigh.
- 11:54Speaker 6: What do you want?
- 11:54Speaker 3: Well, I'd rather have a fifty catch guy for a
- 11:57Speaker 3: thousand yards than an eighty five catch guy for one
- 11:58Speaker 3: thousand yards person, But you need the eighty five catch
- 12:03Speaker 3: guy for all the reasons. Evan just said he had
- 12:05Speaker 3: a guy who moves the chains too. But I would
- 12:08Speaker 3: hate to lose the explosiveness that Pierce has. Maybe if
- 12:12Speaker 3: he is in an offense that doesn't have. You know,
- 12:16Speaker 3: if he becomes more of a focal point, maybe he's
- 12:19Speaker 3: able to be a little bit more well rounded and
- 12:22Speaker 3: catch seventy five balls but still give you that big
- 12:24Speaker 3: play threat.
- 12:25Speaker 6: But maybe maybe he doesn't, and I would.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Worry about not having the big play. And he also
- 12:31Speaker 2: also said the history of number two's going to a
- 12:36Speaker 2: new team as a number one is bad. It rarely
- 12:40Speaker 2: works out.
- 12:40Speaker 9: I just don't like looking at it like that either,
- 12:42Speaker 9: because like it's you're like trying to build an offense
- 12:46Speaker 9: and fit a puzzle together, and like Pierce's skill set
- 12:49Speaker 9: matches up really really well with Drake May's skill set
- 12:52Speaker 9: in terms of the deep ball.
- 12:53Speaker 6: That's why I'm intrigued by him.
- 12:54Speaker 9: And so it's not like I don't know where he
- 12:56Speaker 9: fits in the hierarchy of wide receiver ones and twos
- 12:59Speaker 9: and threes, but like he has a skill set that
- 13:02Speaker 9: the Patriots basically recreated with Kishan Boody and Matt Collins
- 13:06Speaker 9: last year. And now instead of putting together those two guys,
- 13:09Speaker 9: you're going to put together a guy on his own
- 13:11Speaker 9: that is really really good and does that all on
- 13:13Speaker 9: his own. What they're going to miss without Diggs is
- 13:16Speaker 9: the guy that can move the chance and if that
- 13:18Speaker 9: comes in the draft to deuce his point, like there's
- 13:20Speaker 9: a developmental curve there where it's not going to hit
- 13:23Speaker 9: immediately like it did with Diggs necessarily. And I look
- 13:26Speaker 9: at the free agent market and I just I don't
- 13:28Speaker 9: think that that guy is out there in free agency.
- 13:30Speaker 10: Like I don't even think A. J. Brown is really
- 13:32Speaker 10: that guy either.
- 13:33Speaker 9: Like AJ Brown, I think is also still more down
- 13:36Speaker 9: the field type of guy.
- 13:41Speaker 6: I have a little talk we.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Think of dos Can, I can, I can, I convention,
- 13:45Speaker 3: Romeo Dobbs now, okay, yeah, better better, And and I's like,
- 13:54Speaker 3: I just look at that as the area that if
- 13:56Speaker 3: you say, like where's the fallout football wise from Diggs,
- 14:00Speaker 3: you know, getting rid of Diggs, It's it's that like
- 14:03Speaker 3: it's you know, a guy that was ultra efficient on
- 14:06Speaker 3: laid downs, third and fourth down, you know, Baltimore a
- 14:09Speaker 3: fourth down in the game, And where's Drake may going
- 14:12Speaker 3: with the ball Stefon Diggs?
- 14:13Speaker 2: You know? And so is there anyone on the roster
- 14:16Speaker 2: now And I'm thinking Douglas, I'm thinking Chisholm, I'm thinking
- 14:20Speaker 2: Kyle Williams that could be that no.
- 14:22Speaker 8: I mean, not that they'd have to be a significant jump,
- 14:25Speaker 8: I would say, but I mean, you know, to Evan's point,
- 14:29Speaker 8: it's also the coverage that Diggs was pulling.
- 14:31Speaker 4: It's the attention he's pulling.
- 14:33Speaker 8: Now you have to replace that because that attention now
- 14:36Speaker 8: will be spread out more. Just looking at the numbers
- 14:38Speaker 8: from last year, he pointed out fifty one first down
- 14:40Speaker 8: for Diggs with forty two for Hunter.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Henry is the second and we know he's you know,
- 14:43Speaker 4: getting up there too.
- 14:44Speaker 8: So those are the two biggest reliable pieces for Drake
- 14:48Speaker 8: May last year. They're gonna have to find reliable pieces
- 14:51Speaker 8: that he has chemistry with to keep the change.
- 14:52Speaker 3: So thing with Pierce to Freddy, and I know if
- 14:55Speaker 3: you give him, you know, thirty million or whatever he
- 14:58Speaker 3: ends up getting, people are going to say, well, he'd
- 15:00Speaker 3: better be your number one.
- 15:02Speaker 6: I agree with these guys.
- 15:03Speaker 3: I think Pierce probably would not just transform into your
- 15:07Speaker 3: number one. But like Evin explained about the match with
- 15:12Speaker 3: Drake May and in the offense and the piece of
- 15:14Speaker 3: the puzzle, I think it would be a home run
- 15:18Speaker 3: in a lot of ways. It doesn't necessarily mean he's
- 15:21Speaker 3: going to be your number one receiver. You need still more,
- 15:25Speaker 3: and I know people would probably bok at that look.
- 15:27Speaker 3: I don't think there's much of a shot of the
- 15:29Speaker 3: Patriots signing Alec Pierce. I don't well if they get him,
- 15:31Speaker 3: but I but I would love to see him in
- 15:33Speaker 3: the offense.
- 15:34Speaker 6: I think it'd be a great.
- 15:35Speaker 4: To get him.
- 15:35Speaker 2: You'll see comparisons, believe it or not, to Milton Williams
- 15:38Speaker 2: in that Milton Williams didn't play every down and the
- 15:43Speaker 2: great can he do it. It's a great.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Comp I just don't think that they would be getting
- 15:48Speaker 3: him to do the same. I think they project But
- 15:51Speaker 3: what I'm saying is they projected Milton Whims.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I think it's a great comp I do thanks.
- 15:59Speaker 6: There's a lot of similarity.
- 16:00Speaker 3: I don't think that they would be looking for Peers
- 16:02Speaker 3: to do that much more differently than he's done. Whereas
- 16:06Speaker 3: Milton Williams, they absolutely thought this guy is going to
- 16:09Speaker 3: be in every down player for us. He's going to
- 16:11Speaker 3: play the run as well as the past. You know,
- 16:14Speaker 3: he's going to be more than he was in Philadelphia.
- 16:16Speaker 9: If you're like saying that Kaisham Boudi is like a
- 16:19Speaker 9: B minus B deep threat, al Pearce is like an
- 16:23Speaker 9: A minus a deep threat, and I just want to
- 16:25Speaker 9: sign him to be that. Like, I don't want to
- 16:27Speaker 9: sign him to come in here and expect him to
- 16:29Speaker 9: catch a hundred passes and start moving the chains and
- 16:32Speaker 9: be this complete receiver. I want him to be out
- 16:34Speaker 9: there to just go catch go balls from Drake May
- 16:36Speaker 9: for seventeen weeks. But that means that they have to
- 16:39Speaker 9: go and get somebody that can do the other stuff.
- 16:41Speaker 2: And like you said, if you draft the Guy, there's
- 16:43Speaker 2: a learning curve there is.
- 16:45Speaker 9: I mean, I love Casey Concepcion, and I think that
- 16:48Speaker 9: putting him and Alt Piers together would be like a
- 16:51Speaker 9: on paper. You could see a vision there of having
- 16:54Speaker 9: two really dynamic players on the Guy together.
- 16:57Speaker 10: Yeah, but there's going to be a curve.
- 16:59Speaker 3: But I like it, like it doesn't need to be
- 17:01Speaker 3: like a finished product in twenty six. I like the
- 17:05Speaker 3: idea of that you have a twenty six year old.
- 17:07Speaker 3: He'll be twenty peerce will be twenty six when the
- 17:09Speaker 3: season gets underway in a rookie. Yeah, they might not
- 17:13Speaker 3: be as good as they're gonna be. The ceiling might
- 17:15Speaker 3: not get hit in twenty six.
- 17:17Speaker 6: I'm okay with that.
- 17:17Speaker 8: They're the new heart of the offense in your passing
- 17:20Speaker 8: offense too. Just to highlight too, I told these guys
- 17:22Speaker 8: Ale Pierce was on with Ky Adams sometime this weekend.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Electric he said. He said that he thinks.
- 17:28Speaker 8: There will be more expectations of him as the top
- 17:30Speaker 8: wide receiver on the market. He's gonna sign a big deal,
- 17:33Speaker 8: he said. You know, I think I'm gonna have to
- 17:34Speaker 8: be more see more volume. But I rubber stamp everything
- 17:39Speaker 8: that these guys are saying about how it could fit together.
- 17:41Speaker 4: I mean it's intriguing with Drake.
- 17:43Speaker 2: I mean it was. It was impressive though. When Breer
- 17:45Speaker 2: went down the list of the offensive weapons that the
- 17:48Speaker 2: Colts have, they're pretty loaded.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Jonathan Taylor too. I mean you talk about him being
- 17:52Speaker 4: a deep threat.
- 17:53Speaker 8: I mean, team's got to focus on john especially early
- 17:55Speaker 8: in the season.
- 17:56Speaker 3: They were they loaded or do they have a bunch
- 17:59Speaker 3: of They're kind of Green Bay's receiving court. They have
- 18:01Speaker 3: a lot of a lot of capable guys like Michael Pittman,
- 18:04Speaker 3: Josh Dollins, good player, Tyler Warren is I forgot about
- 18:08Speaker 3: Tyler Warren, to be honest with you, he I think
- 18:11Speaker 3: he is going to be.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Special, But they they've got some so I can understand
- 18:16Speaker 2: why they felt like if if Peerce is demanding a
- 18:19Speaker 2: lot of money, I can understand why they said, you
- 18:20Speaker 2: know what, if you want to go, go because we're
- 18:22Speaker 2: not going to pay it.
- 18:24Speaker 6: I actually think he's going to be back.
- 18:25Speaker 10: I see.
- 18:26Speaker 9: I I think that that The Colts, to me, like,
- 18:28Speaker 9: are fools for what they're doing right now. Oh yeah,
- 18:31Speaker 9: I mean I think he's their best receiver by far,
- 18:34Speaker 9: and they their fan base is like up in arms
- 18:36Speaker 9: over this.
- 18:36Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, I mean I think he's going to be back.
- 18:39Speaker 10: The transition tagging Daniel Jones.
- 18:41Speaker 2: I didn't know that. I didn't know that there was
- 18:43Speaker 2: still hope.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Evidently Pierce wanted to make sure before he signed with
- 18:47Speaker 3: Indy that Jones was back, so they had this sort
- 18:50Speaker 3: of stile which is weird to me.
- 18:52Speaker 10: Forget that, especially injury.
- 18:56Speaker 3: But but I think that they could have done it
- 18:59Speaker 3: like I would have. I would have transitioned Pierce and
- 19:02Speaker 3: bought time to get the contract done and then said this,
- 19:07Speaker 3: this is we're going to retain what you know, because
- 19:11Speaker 3: now that takes away the pressure of Pierce leaving.
- 19:14Speaker 6: Yeah, and then you know, no, no, no, we're going to
- 19:16Speaker 6: be signed Jones too. We're just we're hammering out the
- 19:19Speaker 6: structure and give.
- 19:20Speaker 9: Us this is I mean, that regime, that brain trust
- 19:24Speaker 9: there is already kind of on thin ice. And if
- 19:27Speaker 9: they lose Al Pearson free agency and Daniel Jones isn't
- 19:30Speaker 9: a franchise quarterback, Gordon's.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Coming in hot anytime gets a free agency, as Bill
- 19:37Speaker 3: would say, you have to be prepared to lose him.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 19:40Speaker 3: You know, like I know that Indy probably thinks that
- 19:42Speaker 3: they are in a decent spot, but they're running no guarantee.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Coming off Achilles, and so I think I think it's
- 19:49Speaker 2: one of Evans guys. Jordan Schultz, somewhere between altercations that
- 19:54Speaker 2: reported that the Patriots had made an offer for a J.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Brown.
- 19:59Speaker 9: He's he's said that they they are preparing to be
- 20:02Speaker 9: very aggressive at the top of the wide receiver market
- 20:05Speaker 9: next week. Whether that's all a Pierce a J. Brown trade, whatever,
- 20:09Speaker 9: but he he made it sound like they're ready to
- 20:11Speaker 9: throw some money around at one of these top receivers
- 20:13Speaker 9: and and make something happen. So uh well, see, I
- 20:18Speaker 9: wonder how much of all of this too, Like Al
- 20:20Speaker 9: Pierce was not supposed to hit the open market, like
- 20:22Speaker 9: receivers of that caliber don't normally hit the open market.
- 20:25Speaker 2: On my back of the envelope, remember, I.
- 20:31Speaker 10: Was reminded of that at the time.
- 20:32Speaker 8: But Fred like second or third second?
- 20:36Speaker 2: They both three picks after that was funny.
- 20:39Speaker 4: He was on the back of the envelope.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Right, it was it was the three right, it was
- 20:44Speaker 3: the three guys and sky Moore?
- 20:47Speaker 2: Is you wanted to see what you're you're forgetting to?
- 20:50Speaker 2: This is once I announced my back of the envelope.
- 20:55Speaker 4: So are you going to get agency contract?
- 20:58Speaker 2: You get a lot of tastes around marketing, but I
- 21:00Speaker 2: don't get any of the futures. The future by okay, that.
- 21:03Speaker 4: Was a little glimpse in a Paul's computer broom.
- 21:05Speaker 8: We had a little quiz today on the ninety six
- 21:07Speaker 8: Patriots Paul plant just about I think I would say
- 21:09Speaker 8: ten of sixteen on order of the ninety six Patriots
- 21:13Speaker 8: season and the scores, Like.
- 21:14Speaker 6: The ask me the scores last year. I'm telling you
- 21:17Speaker 6: I couldn't do it.
- 21:18Speaker 4: I was impressive. I don't know if there's anything so
- 21:19Speaker 4: when did.
- 21:19Speaker 2: They kick in or you know, I don't know. It's
- 21:23Speaker 2: so like, is there some point where a year.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I remember.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Yeah, now I know.
- 21:29Speaker 8: Oh my god, if you asked me to go through
- 21:30Speaker 8: the last Patriots season, I probably would struggle.
- 21:32Speaker 3: I don't think I could give you the scores and
- 21:35Speaker 3: don't I don't know what happened yesterday. Give you the
- 21:36Speaker 3: first three anything after that, and then I can give
- 21:39Speaker 3: you the ANFC Championship game was ten seven.
- 21:42Speaker 6: That's about it. I don't even remember the score of
- 21:44Speaker 6: that Super Bowl.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Well at the.
- 21:47Speaker 4: I left after I was walking out.
- 21:50Speaker 2: All right. So the wide receiver situation is a situation
- 21:54Speaker 2: for the New England Patriots right now.
- 21:55Speaker 3: So at the risk of sounding like a you know,
- 22:00Speaker 3: like we work for Patriots dot com. Oh, they have
- 22:02Speaker 3: to say that I am really on board with the move.
- 22:06Speaker 3: I think this was the right move to make. I
- 22:09Speaker 3: know Mike is thrilled because he never wanted the guy
- 22:11Speaker 3: in the first plis he won me over. And I'll
- 22:14Speaker 3: have to say, as long as there's a plan, I'm
- 22:16Speaker 3: on board.
- 22:17Speaker 6: That was the part.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Be like, I think they needed more than Diggs to
- 22:22Speaker 3: start with, and I've seen a lot of well, now
- 22:25Speaker 3: this opens up this and they have all the cap
- 22:28Speaker 3: space and they can do that. They've also created another
- 22:31Speaker 3: hole right, they've also created another because even though I
- 22:35Speaker 3: think it was the right move to move on from Diggs,
- 22:37Speaker 3: Diggs was everything that everybody has said about his impact
- 22:41Speaker 3: on the offense last.
- 22:42Speaker 6: Year, All of that is true.
- 22:43Speaker 3: I saw one person say it was highly unlikely he's
- 22:46Speaker 3: going to duplicate a season like that. Why he just
- 22:50Speaker 3: did that coming off of torn acl He's only thirty three.
- 22:53Speaker 6: It's not like he's forty three.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Like, it's not reasonable to expect him to have another
- 22:59Speaker 3: good season too, right, Like, I mean again, long term,
- 23:03Speaker 3: I love this move for the Patriots. I think this
- 23:05Speaker 3: makes all all the sense in the world with the Patriots.
- 23:08Speaker 3: He did exactly what Mike.
- 23:09Speaker 6: Rabel could have prayed that he would do for him,
- 23:12Speaker 6: and they cut ties and they let him go. I
- 23:15Speaker 6: think that's perfectly reasonable. But you've created another hole, right, Yeah.
- 23:20Speaker 9: I just think that this is probably since Brady left,
- 23:24Speaker 9: the most desirable the Patriots have been for a wide
- 23:26Speaker 9: receiver and play here. So I think you're in a
- 23:30Speaker 9: much different position. Last year, they just needed to get.
- 23:32Speaker 3: A star receiving someone to say yes, right, and he
- 23:35Speaker 3: was the one, the only one that did right.
- 23:37Speaker 9: And now I think that I wouldn't say, pick of
- 23:40Speaker 9: the litter. There's probably a little strong, but I think
- 23:42Speaker 9: that they are a contender for pretty much every big
- 23:45Speaker 9: name receiver that hits the market, whether it's trade or
- 23:47Speaker 9: free agency, because you have Drake May, you have cap Space,
- 23:51Speaker 9: and you have Mike Rabel and like you are a draw,
- 23:53Speaker 9: you are a draw to one of these guys, like
- 23:55Speaker 9: if you're Alec Pierce, Like, I can't think of a
- 23:57Speaker 9: better scenario for somebody like Ali Pierce with his skill
- 24:00Speaker 9: set to come play with this quarterback, like right, and
- 24:04Speaker 9: you know a J Brown, same thing.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I know AJ Brown.
- 24:07Speaker 6: It seems like it's kind of a J Brown or bust.
- 24:10Speaker 3: And that's fine, But I I I I only disagree
- 24:14Speaker 3: with that because I don't think that there was ever
- 24:16Speaker 3: a thought that Alt Pierce was actually going to hit
- 24:19Speaker 3: the open market, because receivers, like I was saying earlier
- 24:22Speaker 3: that caliber do not usually hit.
- 24:24Speaker 2: On Rather Brown Pierce pierers Yeah, because I love you,
- 24:28Speaker 2: But because he's younger and you don't have to give
- 24:30Speaker 2: up the assets, his fit is clear better right now.
- 24:36Speaker 6: I mean, I think Brown that one's going to come
- 24:38Speaker 6: back and hot me.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Brown is a vastly superior player like his career career wise,
- 24:44Speaker 3: not not even close. No, no comparison right now today,
- 24:48Speaker 3: I think Pierce is a better player than Brown.
- 24:50Speaker 8: The things move though, to me, I think two weeks
- 24:51Speaker 8: ago said there's a lot of hard decisions to make,
- 24:53Speaker 8: and you know, do you want guys who are pretty
- 24:55Speaker 8: good for you back or do you want to try
- 24:57Speaker 8: to be better? And this to me signals like they
- 24:59Speaker 8: understan that and they're going to make some tough decisions
- 25:01Speaker 8: this year.
- 25:02Speaker 4: They're willing to take a little bit of a step
- 25:03Speaker 4: back to this concept.
- 25:04Speaker 2: The young guy. Where's he slated to go.
- 25:07Speaker 9: Back into the first round? I mean, I think thirty
- 25:09Speaker 9: one is probably is floor.
- 25:10Speaker 2: So do you want to use thirty one on a
- 25:12Speaker 2: guy like that? Or do you want to use it
- 25:14Speaker 2: when someone who might make a more immediate impact?
- 25:16Speaker 1: Oh?
- 25:16Speaker 10: I think he's going to make immediate impact?
- 25:18Speaker 1: Oh you do?
- 25:18Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely, It's not a project.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah, well I thought we thought that he is going
- 25:22Speaker 2: to be a learning.
- 25:23Speaker 10: Curve, well for any receiver.
- 25:25Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, unless unless an edge that you totally
- 25:28Speaker 8: are enamored with. I'm on board with at that pick.
- 25:32Speaker 8: What helps Drake the most? Is it going to be
- 25:34Speaker 8: a developmental right?
- 25:35Speaker 1: Tackle?
- 25:35Speaker 4: Probably not at that spot.
- 25:36Speaker 2: About that, you know, the best guard.
- 25:38Speaker 4: I mean you look at it.
- 25:40Speaker 10: And pregnant on Yeah, I mean you can make a
- 25:42Speaker 10: case for it, know, but.
- 25:43Speaker 3: You've got a chance to get a weapon next to
- 25:45Speaker 3: Evan Lazar if they take another guard.
- 25:47Speaker 2: I don't take the right guard this time left guard.
- 25:51Speaker 9: I've come around to it like a little bit and
- 25:53Speaker 9: just like the respect that like it's probably one of
- 25:56Speaker 9: the most glaring holes on the team. But it wasn't
- 25:58Speaker 9: twenty two too, and they just butchered it, so like
- 26:01Speaker 9: just pick a right like.
- 26:02Speaker 10: Put the good guard not. I didn't need not the
- 26:05Speaker 10: ut Chattanooga won no offense.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Like I feel bad for Cold Strange because my my
- 26:10Speaker 3: iy are with the pick had nothing to do with
- 26:12Speaker 3: who they picked. It was the position and everybody else
- 26:15Speaker 3: was like Cold Strange Chatternooga. Like to me, it was
- 26:19Speaker 3: just like guard first round.
- 26:21Speaker 10: I mean it was a combination of the two things.
- 26:24Speaker 6: No and then like storm of crap yeah you know, yeah.
- 26:27Speaker 9: But I think in order to set yourself up to
- 26:29Speaker 9: take a guard, you have to do a lot in
- 26:31Speaker 9: free agency, Like they would have to check a lot
- 26:33Speaker 9: of boxes in free agency to put themselves in a
- 26:36Speaker 9: position to have the flexibility to.
- 26:38Speaker 10: Take a guard to you.
- 26:39Speaker 3: I mean, this is kind of branching out. I know,
- 26:40Speaker 3: we get a lot of other things to talk about,
- 26:42Speaker 3: but your whole thing about the whole veteran guard. Yeah,
- 26:46Speaker 3: you just freed up another few million in cap space.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Use it on one of the many veteran guards that
- 26:52Speaker 3: are available in free agency.
- 26:54Speaker 9: There's like half a dozen of these guys at varying
- 26:58Speaker 9: you know, price points, even if you don't want to
- 27:00Speaker 9: spend a ton of money on it because you're thinking
- 27:03Speaker 9: that you're going to turn it over to a younger
- 27:04Speaker 9: player eventually, like even a guy like Dylan Parhum, like
- 27:07Speaker 9: who played for McDaniels in Vegas.
- 27:10Speaker 3: It's like eight guards available in free agency that I
- 27:13Speaker 3: know who they are.
- 27:14Speaker 6: I don't know any of the alignment.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm in love with that idea.
- 27:17Speaker 8: And just you know something immediately you can do right now,
- 27:20Speaker 8: within the next week, to say we've added a really
- 27:23Speaker 8: good player to this offensive line. How's it all going
- 27:25Speaker 8: to play out? We don't have to figure it out
- 27:26Speaker 8: right now, but we know that we've already improved from
- 27:28Speaker 8: a month ago.
- 27:29Speaker 9: It reminds me of just a lot of them signing
- 27:31Speaker 9: Bradbury and Moses last offseason, where it doesn't put you
- 27:34Speaker 9: into a place where you have to start a rookie
- 27:36Speaker 9: in that spot or a young player. At least you
- 27:38Speaker 9: have somebody that's played the position before, that has experienced,
- 27:41Speaker 9: that has a resume in the league, Whereas like if
- 27:44Speaker 9: they draft another guard in the second or third round
- 27:46Speaker 9: and they're just throwing the dart and hoping that it
- 27:48Speaker 9: sticks in the training camp.
- 27:50Speaker 4: Like a stock.
- 27:51Speaker 8: They've they've thrown a lot of those starts in recent years,
- 27:53Speaker 8: you know, the City shows of the World, the Leyden
- 27:55Speaker 8: Robinson's the World.
- 27:55Speaker 4: It's it's been hard to find, but I I love
- 27:57Speaker 4: that move.
- 27:58Speaker 8: And then you know you're continuing to build that leadership
- 28:00Speaker 8: because a lot of people have Jared Wilson mark for
- 28:03Speaker 8: that center spot. A lot of people have no Morgan
- 28:06Speaker 8: Moses is what thirty four to thirty five, he's going
- 28:08Speaker 8: to be aging out.
- 28:09Speaker 4: You know, maybe you bridge the gap a little bit with.
- 28:11Speaker 8: That leadership by getting you know, left guard who's a
- 28:13Speaker 8: veteran as.
- 28:14Speaker 4: Well, and he can bridge the gap. Draft the right
- 28:16Speaker 4: tackle of the future and you've got some stability.
- 28:18Speaker 2: All right. So what are some of the other stories
- 28:20Speaker 2: around the league that's going on in terms of trades,
- 28:23Speaker 2: trades to the Rocky So Paul, before the show, you
- 28:27Speaker 2: were saying how you don't like what Kansas City did. Well,
- 28:31Speaker 2: if you were a fan of Kansas City, you wouldn't
- 28:33Speaker 2: like that, and you wouldn't like what the Bills are
- 28:34Speaker 2: doing or did Oh.
- 28:36Speaker 3: I don't hate what the Bills did, but I think
- 28:39Speaker 3: they need more than Dj Moore. The Bills reportedly have
- 28:43Speaker 3: reached an agreement to acquire DJ Moore from Chicago for
- 28:46Speaker 3: a mid round pick.
- 28:47Speaker 6: That's the only compensation I've seen.
- 28:49Speaker 3: The Kansas City one, to me is a continuation of
- 28:51Speaker 3: what I've seen from the Chiefs in the Mahomes era,
- 28:54Speaker 3: whereas they're allowing good players to get to contract time
- 28:59Speaker 3: and lee and it's it. You know, this is it
- 29:03Speaker 3: seems like they're cornerbacks in particular.
- 29:05Speaker 5: Now.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Maybe they're just so confident in their ability to draft
- 29:09Speaker 3: and develop corners because they've done.
- 29:10Speaker 6: It reasonably well.
- 29:11Speaker 3: But Lugerious Sneid went, looks like Jalen Watson's gonna go now.
- 29:17Speaker 6: Trent McDuffie.
- 29:17Speaker 3: They traded to the Rams for four picks, including the
- 29:21Speaker 3: twenty ninth overall, which is I mean that, would you
- 29:24Speaker 3: trade Gonzales for the twenty ninth overall pick right now?
- 29:27Speaker 2: I wouldn't.
- 29:27Speaker 6: No, so so well.
- 29:31Speaker 3: They're very comparable. They're both All pros. Actually, McDuffie's been
- 29:36Speaker 3: a first team All Pro and.
- 29:37Speaker 9: McDuffie's more of like a tackles better, more of like
- 29:40Speaker 9: a playmaker in that regard.
- 29:42Speaker 10: But in terms of cover talent.
- 29:45Speaker 6: I mean, I'm like semantics.
- 29:46Speaker 3: I'm just saying I wouldn't trade Gonzales right now for
- 29:49Speaker 3: the twenty ninth overall pick.
- 29:50Speaker 6: Kansas City just did.
- 29:52Speaker 3: And yeah, I know they got a few other picks,
- 29:54Speaker 3: but it's basically for a first.
- 29:56Speaker 6: Round pick, and I just think it's hill.
- 30:01Speaker 3: You know, one of these guys all over against some
- 30:03Speaker 3: of them individually, you could say, oh that made sense.
- 30:05Speaker 6: So that made sense. This made sense. They basically reacted
- 30:08Speaker 6: Chris Jones, who they.
- 30:09Speaker 3: Made the highest paid, I believe, the highest paid defensive
- 30:11Speaker 3: player in football when he signed his deal in Mahomes
- 30:15Speaker 3: and I just said, let it Patrick, you figure it out.
- 30:19Speaker 3: And now Evan's got a theory that maybe they don't
- 30:21Speaker 3: even think that Mahomes is going to play this year,
- 30:23Speaker 3: and they're just completely punting on the season. I would
- 30:26Speaker 3: hate that. If I were Kansas City, I would despise it.
- 30:29Speaker 3: There's no reason why Mahomes can't be ready to go,
- 30:31Speaker 3: just like everybody else that comes back in six months
- 30:35Speaker 3: instead of twelve months from these serious injuries. Why you
- 30:40Speaker 3: would go into a season and take one of your
- 30:43Speaker 3: better players and just trade them for just you know,
- 30:46Speaker 3: draft capital. I think it's a continuation that Kansas City
- 30:51Speaker 3: thinks Mahomes can fix all their problems and they don't
- 30:53Speaker 3: have to spend money. So I think that's a really
- 30:56Speaker 3: good there's a long way of me saying I think
- 30:58Speaker 3: it's a good development for the Patriots. Yeah, it's a
- 31:00Speaker 3: major hurdle in your conference that I don't think is
- 31:03Speaker 3: as good as it should be.
- 31:04Speaker 8: I mean, really, Rams one of the two best teams
- 31:05Speaker 8: all year, they had a really good player in their secondary.
- 31:08Speaker 8: I mean, they're going to be another tough, tough out
- 31:10Speaker 8: long as Matthew Stafford's stays or about that.
- 31:12Speaker 10: In the Super Bowl news what else?
- 31:14Speaker 9: Yeah, No, I think that you either way, we're on
- 31:16Speaker 9: the same page of this is good news for the Patriots.
- 31:19Speaker 10: I just I think Trent McDuffie's.
- 31:21Speaker 9: An awesome player, and I just look at it and say,
- 31:23Speaker 9: Mahomes is hurt in the middle of December. It wasn't
- 31:26Speaker 9: like Diggs was hurt in October when he tore his
- 31:28Speaker 9: acl Like this is it's not as much of a
- 31:31Speaker 9: runway that he has here to be ready for the
- 31:32Speaker 9: start of next season. I just look at what Kansas
- 31:36Speaker 9: City's doing the year they're coming off of, and I'm like,
- 31:38Speaker 9: do do they really feel like they're going to be
- 31:41Speaker 9: able to compete next year even if Mahomes comes back
- 31:43Speaker 9: at some point in the season. I just wonder if
- 31:47Speaker 9: they're looking at it as a long term play of
- 31:50Speaker 9: we're not really gonna be going for it next year,
- 31:52Speaker 9: so let's just load up on draft capital and have
- 31:55Speaker 9: a bunch of draft picks for twenty twenty seven that
- 31:57Speaker 9: we can kind of push everything in the middle.
- 31:59Speaker 2: For So, I guess Kyler Murray has been told he's
- 32:01Speaker 2: going to be released, and I don't know if he's
- 32:04Speaker 2: been told yet, but the rumor is that Tua is
- 32:08Speaker 2: going to be released from Miami as well. Where do
- 32:11Speaker 2: these guys land?
- 32:12Speaker 3: So I have a question for you on the whole
- 32:14Speaker 3: is going to be released thing? Why do you think
- 32:17Speaker 3: they don't just release the players.
- 32:20Speaker 2: I think they tell him now because so that they
- 32:23Speaker 2: can get a head start on talking to people. But
- 32:26Speaker 2: I think there's something about the league year financially that
- 32:29Speaker 2: makes the difference.
- 32:30Speaker 3: No, but my the reason it has to happen before
- 32:33Speaker 3: they started. Like Stefan Diggs specifically, I believe on the
- 32:37Speaker 3: thirteenth is the eleventh, the first day of the I
- 32:39Speaker 3: think it's the thirteenth. These dude like six million, eight
- 32:42Speaker 3: six more million of his contract gets becomes guaranteed. So
- 32:46Speaker 3: obviously I understand why the Patriots want to release him
- 32:48Speaker 3: before that date because they don't want to be on
- 32:50Speaker 3: the hook for more guaranteed.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Why not just do it now?
- 32:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't really know what precludes them from just
- 32:57Speaker 3: releasing a player.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Counting also, if you retain him and somebody swoops in
- 33:03Speaker 2: and wants to do a trade, you still have leverage.
- 33:05Speaker 3: Well that's why Miami's not going to trade. I'm not
- 33:08Speaker 3: going to just release to it because they're hoping, you know,
- 33:12Speaker 3: probably beyond hope that someone comes in and says, well, yeah,
- 33:16Speaker 3: we don't want to fight the rest of the league.
- 33:17Speaker 3: We'll give you something and well, you know, we'll pay
- 33:19Speaker 3: some of the salary away, so.
- 33:20Speaker 2: You'll let it out there that you're going to get
- 33:22Speaker 2: rid of them. So teams are now, yeah, that's probably
- 33:24Speaker 2: the answer. Is they hope and someone comes to them
- 33:27Speaker 2: and makes an offer. Us.
- 33:30Speaker 9: I feel like there's a pretty good chance that Kyler
- 33:32Speaker 9: Murray's playing in the AFCAS next year.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Well does he go to Miami or the Jets?
- 33:37Speaker 9: I mean, there's really only two places where he has
- 33:39Speaker 9: a clear path to start, you know, the other places
- 33:42Speaker 9: he would at least be competing with somebody, uh, you know, Minnesota,
- 33:45Speaker 9: Like I keep hearing that one, but like they're at
- 33:47Speaker 9: least going to give JJ McCarthy the start of the season.
- 33:49Speaker 6: Are you're assuming Rogers goes back.
- 33:51Speaker 3: That's the only one that because I mean, I think
- 33:54Speaker 3: Pittsburgh got in Cleveland. I think there's a lot of
- 33:56Speaker 3: teams that he would clearly be the starter for. I
- 33:59Speaker 3: I don't Murray, I don't think that that sounds the
- 34:01Speaker 3: way that Cleveland's going like Cleveland is making it sound
- 34:04Speaker 3: like Deshaun Watson's in play for them right now.
- 34:07Speaker 10: Pittsburgh, I'm with you. If Aaron Rodgers doesn't go.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Back back then that would change it, right, I mean,
- 34:12Speaker 3: I assume that he's going to do.
- 34:16Speaker 9: He doesn't know yet, but I keep hearing Minnesota, which
- 34:19Speaker 9: I have to think JJ McCarthy is going to at
- 34:21Speaker 9: least get the start of the season to try to
- 34:24Speaker 9: see if he can put it together.
- 34:26Speaker 10: Like it's pretty early. But Atlanta, Atlanta is the other one.
- 34:29Speaker 3: But he's at least competing with Pennix, like it's I
- 34:31Speaker 3: don't think they're just going to hand him the job
- 34:33Speaker 3: or even like, you know, back to Indy. You know,
- 34:36Speaker 3: is you know, if Daniel Jones's Achilles isn't.
- 34:39Speaker 9: Ready, great, a great system fit. But I don't like
- 34:43Speaker 9: they seem so in love with Daniel Jones that but is.
- 34:46Speaker 3: He going to be I mean, if I mean, if
- 34:49Speaker 3: we are not assuming that Mahomes is going to be ready,
- 34:51Speaker 3: we're going to assume on a much more serious.
- 34:53Speaker 6: Age that Daniel Jones is going to be ready.
- 34:55Speaker 3: And again he's probably either way, he's only signing a
- 34:58Speaker 3: one year deal more than likely.
- 35:00Speaker 9: Well, I mean it's the offset language, right, So he's
- 35:03Speaker 9: gonna sign a one year deal for the minimimum. Yeah, No,
- 35:06Speaker 9: I that's a good one. I I just clean is past.
- 35:11Speaker 9: It is the Jets and the Dolphins like they're the
- 35:12Speaker 9: ones that have glaring open like starting quarterback jobs that
- 35:17Speaker 9: are available. It feels very Jets are Dolphins to me,
- 35:20Speaker 9: like that they always go for like some veteran with
- 35:23Speaker 9: the name would make some.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Sense, you know, for Kyler Murray to go to Miami
- 35:29Speaker 3: and you know, and have a guy like Jalen Waddle
- 35:31Speaker 3: to throw to, you know, an h hand in the backfield.
- 35:35Speaker 3: There's at least a semblance of something there. In to
- 35:38Speaker 3: Evan's point, he's gonna be the quarterback. It's not gonna
- 35:41Speaker 3: He's not gonna lose out to Quinn yours.
- 35:43Speaker 4: You know, God think conversations.
- 35:46Speaker 3: Oh yeah, talk yourself into two is to my benefit
- 35:53Speaker 3: from like a Minnesota thing. You know, let me go there,
- 35:57Speaker 3: get with Kevin O'Connell. Maybe I had a chance to
- 36:00Speaker 3: resurrect my career again with great weapons.
- 36:03Speaker 6: You know, I don't know.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Does Mac Jones end up anywhere?
- 36:07Speaker 6: I think he's going to have a market. Looks like
- 36:09Speaker 6: he doesn't. According to jeremy.
- 36:11Speaker 10: Follower, I think he's gonna have a trade.
- 36:13Speaker 3: There's been no real market developing. The Green Bay kid too,
- 36:18Speaker 3: Willis is going to go somewhere.
- 36:19Speaker 4: It's a tough quarterback market. It's hard to talk yourself
- 36:21Speaker 4: into any of these guys.
- 36:23Speaker 3: I mean, a lot of people thank Miami for Willis.
- 36:27Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 36:28Speaker 6: I'm not sold on the lake Willis.
- 36:30Speaker 2: Chris writes in can we please stop with Alec Pierce?
- 36:33Speaker 2: He's not a game changer. His most productive year came
- 36:35Speaker 2: in a year where the Colts had a top two
- 36:37Speaker 2: run game in the league, and even at that, he
- 36:39Speaker 2: just barely passed a thousand yards. He's Taekwon Thornton on
- 36:42Speaker 2: a team with a run game, in.
- 36:44Speaker 3: My opinion, have a thousand career yards now.
- 36:48Speaker 2: In my opinion, He's not even remotely close to the
- 36:50Speaker 2: player thirty two year old Diggs is. So I'm curious.
- 36:54Speaker 2: I'm curious why a lot of people are acting like
- 36:57Speaker 2: he's a legitimate replacement. I'm okay if he's the number two,
- 37:00Speaker 2: but him alone doesn't move the needle at all.
- 37:03Speaker 4: It moves the needle for me.
- 37:05Speaker 9: Replacing Peers with like Kayshawn Booty and Mac Collins without
- 37:09Speaker 9: Peers doesn't move the needle. Like he's a much better
- 37:11Speaker 9: player than those two guys. I mean, no disrespect, but like.
- 37:15Speaker 3: We're going to get into semantics and stuff and replacing
- 37:18Speaker 3: dig He's a completely different player than Diggs. He's not
- 37:21Speaker 3: gonna if you're looking for him to get that kind
- 37:22Speaker 3: of volume, then you're going to be disappointed. Yes, But
- 37:26Speaker 3: to say that he's he's not a difference maker. When
- 37:28Speaker 3: he averaged he led the league in yards per catch
- 37:31Speaker 3: and is like a thousand yard it's not like he
- 37:34Speaker 3: averaged twenty five yards per catch and had four hundred yards,
- 37:38Speaker 3: which you know, like Chris Hogan.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Used to do.
- 37:41Speaker 3: This is the guy who read a thousand yards and
- 37:44Speaker 3: led the league in yards per catch. It was only
- 37:46Speaker 3: like whatever twenty somebody he had the same year that
- 37:49Speaker 3: Dicks did on half the catches.
- 37:52Speaker 4: He's led the lead in yards perception the last two years.
- 37:54Speaker 6: Two years. Yeah, he's the definition of a difference maker.
- 37:58Speaker 9: I just think it's differ and we get into this
- 38:01Speaker 9: semantics argument. I get, but we're so attached to that
- 38:06Speaker 9: wide receiver one thing. Yeah, and it's just like and
- 38:09Speaker 9: we just unders he's an outside receiver that takes the
- 38:12Speaker 9: top off. So like now on his side of the field,
- 38:14Speaker 9: that safety has to respect the fact that he can
- 38:16Speaker 9: run by both guys really on that side of the field,
- 38:20Speaker 9: Like it just it changes the equation of how you're
- 38:22Speaker 9: defended more so than it maybe is, Like is he
- 38:26Speaker 9: in the Jamar Chase justin Jefferson here? No, but I
- 38:31Speaker 9: think that he's a He changes how you are being
- 38:33Speaker 9: game planned against because of his speat.
- 38:35Speaker 8: It's simple math to me. You have the most accurate
- 38:37Speaker 8: downfield front quarterback in the league and the most the
- 38:41Speaker 8: more prolific downfield receiver is now available. You know, when
- 38:44Speaker 8: Paul was talking about we were saying the match that
- 38:46Speaker 8: that is reminded me a little bit about when the
- 38:47Speaker 8: Brady when they got Welker for Brady, where it was
- 38:50Speaker 8: you know, is Welker number one?
- 38:51Speaker 2: No?
- 38:52Speaker 8: But his skill set fit Brady so much that you
- 38:55Speaker 8: knew that Brady's going to see every defense, He's going
- 38:57Speaker 8: to put Welker right into the right position, and he's
- 38:59Speaker 8: going to complete one hundred and fifty passes to him,
- 39:01Speaker 8: and that's exactly what happened.
- 39:02Speaker 3: I would agree with the emailer is if you know,
- 39:05Speaker 3: if you if you just got Pierce and you just
- 39:07Speaker 3: decided that okay, you're probably going to be disappointed based
- 39:11Speaker 3: on what it's going to cost you and the way
- 39:13Speaker 3: you know, there's.
- 39:14Speaker 6: The offense would still be lacking something.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Yeah, and I would agree with all that that reservation,
- 39:19Speaker 3: but the emailer, I'm on board with you.
- 39:20Speaker 9: I mean, the ideal scenario would have been pairing Peers
- 39:22Speaker 9: with Digs. And obviously Digs the situation just was what
- 39:26Speaker 9: it was and they're moving on. But to pair him
- 39:28Speaker 9: with somebody like Diggs that's going to be that inside
- 39:31Speaker 9: guy that's going to move the chains and wait underneath.
- 39:33Speaker 9: It's obviously not at that level, but it's it's Welker
- 39:37Speaker 9: and Moss right. It's having a guy underneath and over
- 39:39Speaker 9: the middle and a guy over the top. And with
- 39:42Speaker 9: Drake May's ability to throw the ball deep, teams are
- 39:45Speaker 9: going to have to respect the fact that he has
- 39:47Speaker 9: out piers on the outside.
- 39:48Speaker 4: Now, what do you guys think is harder to find?
- 39:50Speaker 1: Though?
- 39:50Speaker 4: Like, what would you rather do?
- 39:51Speaker 8: Would you rather feel like you have a chain mover
- 39:54Speaker 8: that Drake has trust in and you have to kind
- 39:56Speaker 8: of find the deep threat or would you feel better
- 39:59Speaker 8: about we've.
- 39:59Speaker 4: Got to guy who can take the top off.
- 40:02Speaker 8: Hopefully that opens things up and means opportunities for us
- 40:05Speaker 8: to find someone underneath to be the chain mover. Like,
- 40:08Speaker 8: what is the harder of those two roles to find
- 40:11Speaker 8: and which would you rather.
- 40:12Speaker 9: I would say the Chane mover because he made MATC
- 40:15Speaker 9: Collins and Kishon Booty viable deep threats just because of
- 40:18Speaker 9: how good he is. So like, even though that might
- 40:21Speaker 9: not be the ceiling of what that role could be
- 40:23Speaker 9: in the offense, they still got a thousand yards combined
- 40:26Speaker 9: from those two guys because he's so good.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:28Speaker 9: So like, I think the chain mover thing too, Like
- 40:31Speaker 9: in Josh mcdaniels's offense, that's.
- 40:33Speaker 10: A really important role.
- 40:35Speaker 9: And Josh McDaniels talks a lot about getting like the
- 40:37Speaker 9: first first down of a drive and you know, keeping
- 40:40Speaker 9: the offense on schedule and moving you know, the offense
- 40:44Speaker 9: down the field. These are all things that a Diggs does.
- 40:47Speaker 9: And I think even though Drake May's skill set might
- 40:50Speaker 9: lend itself more to the deep ball guy, the offense
- 40:52Speaker 9: lends itself more to the digs kind of player.
- 40:55Speaker 3: This might just be sort of anecdotal and not necessarily
- 40:58Speaker 3: born out, but I would also so add to that,
- 41:03Speaker 3: I think May's ability makes it easier for the guy
- 41:07Speaker 3: down the field, whereas May, I think needs more help
- 41:10Speaker 3: from the from the receiver. On the other thing, I
- 41:13Speaker 3: think he got he benefited more from Diggs's sort of
- 41:16Speaker 3: savvy and weut running and all that, because I don't
- 41:19Speaker 3: think that's as natural to May. Those quick throws, accurate
- 41:23Speaker 3: third fourth, downd chain moving kind of things. That's not
- 41:27Speaker 3: the best part of May's game. The best part of
- 41:29Speaker 3: May's game, I'm going to make you look good when
- 41:31Speaker 3: we throw it up.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Derek in South Carolina raises. He asks, you know, with
- 41:36Speaker 2: losing Diggs, is wide receiver now the number one offseason priority.
- 41:41Speaker 2: I would say that the number one priority should be
- 41:45Speaker 2: giving May whatever he needs to succeed, and of course
- 41:49Speaker 2: that includes wide receivers. But I also think the line
- 41:52Speaker 2: and tight end, like the priority this off season would
- 41:55Speaker 2: be to get this offense humming for Drake May that
- 41:59Speaker 2: that should be the.
- 42:00Speaker 6: But what do you think is going.
- 42:02Speaker 1: To do that?
- 42:03Speaker 2: Well then whoever, Like, if if the opportunity is for
- 42:07Speaker 2: the best tight end, get that, you know, like there's
- 42:09Speaker 2: no I don't think there's any order right now. It's
- 42:12Speaker 2: just you need these people. You're not gonna get them all.
- 42:15Speaker 2: So like, as the opportunity makes itself available, you've got
- 42:18Speaker 2: to move.
- 42:19Speaker 8: Yeah, look at every I mean, that's what I said.
- 42:21Speaker 8: About the thirty first pick, barring you know, like maybe
- 42:23Speaker 8: a Cassius Howell being there. I looked at it through
- 42:26Speaker 8: the prism of Drake, who's available, Who's going to help
- 42:29Speaker 8: Drake the most immediately and in the long term, and
- 42:32Speaker 8: you know, setting up those those long term weapons. I mean,
- 42:35Speaker 8: I think you look at I went down on Tuesday,
- 42:37Speaker 8: show all the guys that are going to be free
- 42:38Speaker 8: agents next year on the you know, Booty's up, Douglas
- 42:41Speaker 8: is up, Hollins is up. They have to find who
- 42:44Speaker 8: are going to be Drake May's long term guys for
- 42:47Speaker 8: you know, the end of his first contract and into
- 42:49Speaker 8: that second, you know, lucrative contract, and I'm sure he's
- 42:51Speaker 8: going to sign next offseason, you know. So it's it's
- 42:54Speaker 8: a priority for sure, but you got to get it right.
- 42:56Speaker 4: And I think you can keep taking swings every year.
- 42:58Speaker 4: Trying to find it.
- 42:59Speaker 3: For me is the priority. And I understand Fred's point,
- 43:02Speaker 3: like whatever presents itself you should take. I'm not saying
- 43:07Speaker 3: take the seventieth best receiver because that's the biggest need
- 43:11Speaker 3: over a tight end. Who might be the best tight
- 43:13Speaker 3: end available or the best offensive tackle available, whatever not.
- 43:17Speaker 6: Whatever is available is available.
- 43:19Speaker 2: They should have a lot of irons.
- 43:20Speaker 3: Five receiver to me, is a bigger need than the
- 43:23Speaker 3: other things. I think you guys all picked edge rusher.
- 43:28Speaker 3: Edge rusher is a huge need. I totally agree with
- 43:31Speaker 3: you guys. For me, it's more about what Fred says.
- 43:33Speaker 6: I think they got to find a way to give
- 43:35Speaker 6: Drake a little bit more helpful.
- 43:37Speaker 9: I think that's the number one concern with this move
- 43:39Speaker 9: to me, is like, ideally, you don't want to put
- 43:41Speaker 9: yourself in a position in the draft where you have
- 43:43Speaker 9: to draft a certain position, right, And that's usually when
- 43:46Speaker 9: you make mistakes, is when you are drafting for need
- 43:49Speaker 9: and it's like we're going in to the draft and
- 43:51Speaker 9: we have no receivers and we have no choice but
- 43:53Speaker 9: to take a wide receiver here now. And that's when
- 43:55Speaker 9: you end up with the seventh best receiver instead of
- 43:58Speaker 9: a better player at a different position. And so that's
- 44:01Speaker 9: what free agency is about. Like free agency is you
- 44:03Speaker 9: have needs, you have veteran players that are proven commodities
- 44:07Speaker 9: in the league, and we're going to sign these guys
- 44:08Speaker 9: to plug them into these holes.
- 44:10Speaker 10: So I'm hoping that next week.
- 44:12Speaker 9: They're able to do a lot, you know, whether it's
- 44:15Speaker 9: Alan Pierce AJ Brown sign a guard maybe and just
- 44:18Speaker 9: check off some of these boxes because you don't want
- 44:20Speaker 9: to get to the draft and be reaching on guys
- 44:23Speaker 9: because you have to take a position of need. I
- 44:25Speaker 9: think that they had to kind of do that the
- 44:27Speaker 9: last couple of drafts, and they, you know, Drake May
- 44:29Speaker 9: has obviously been a huge home run. Campbell will see,
- 44:32Speaker 9: you know, like that's when you sort of get yourself
- 44:34Speaker 9: into trouble.
- 44:34Speaker 2: All right, foods here, so we're going to take a break.
- 44:38Speaker 2: When we come back, we'll open up the phones. As
- 44:40Speaker 2: you can see, there's a lot of stuff to talk about.

- 46:35Speaker 4: And you're doing a car wash here, you know, Evan
- 46:37Speaker 4: and I we don't get up early enough to talk
- 46:39Speaker 4: to you during the season. I think the last time
- 46:41Speaker 4: we talked to you was here at the combine.
- 46:43Speaker 13: Have you had a chance to process ask questions?
- 46:45Speaker 7: I do.
- 46:46Speaker 1: I do a press conference there twice a week. You're
- 46:50Speaker 1: free to ask questions there.
- 46:51Speaker 13: We don't get you one on one like this though,
- 46:53Speaker 13: But have you had a chance to process this last
- 46:55Speaker 13: year yet?
- 46:56Speaker 14: I mean probably not. You know, I just keep it moving,
- 47:00Speaker 14: figure out what we need to do next. I think
- 47:02Speaker 14: that's what we've done since we since we started a little.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Over a year ago.
- 47:06Speaker 14: So the idea is just kind of figure out what
- 47:08Speaker 14: we need to do for the team and and go
- 47:10Speaker 14: about doing it.
- 47:11Speaker 4: Might help with that, it all get and then something new.
- 47:13Speaker 14: Yeah, And because everybody's here, you know, we have you know,
- 47:16Speaker 14: most of our staff here, and you know the personnel
- 47:19Speaker 14: staff and uh, some of the coaches have come in.
- 47:22Speaker 14: We're excited about going to dinner to night before the meeting,
- 47:24Speaker 14: so you know, miss Nancy Nancy Meyer sets that up
- 47:28Speaker 14: and that'll be a great thing here tonight that we'll
- 47:30Speaker 14: be able to do. I have great dinner with everybody
- 47:33Speaker 14: that's in and then we'll we'll head over to to
- 47:35Speaker 14: the interviews.
- 47:36Speaker 10: Are you're staying almost?
- 47:37Speaker 1: Guy Prime forty seven, Well, I'm a stake guy.
- 47:39Speaker 14: I don't discriminate cocktails, all got spicy horse.
- 47:43Speaker 1: At sauce, and I don't discriminate all right, take a stake.
- 47:47Speaker 10: What's the last couple of weeks looked like for you personally?
- 47:50Speaker 10: Just obviously coming off the Super Bowl?
- 47:51Speaker 1: Wow?
- 47:52Speaker 14: I mean you try to visit with the players and
- 47:54Speaker 14: coaches and try to figure out what the staff needs
- 47:57Speaker 14: and the adjustments that you make with the staff, and.
- 48:01Speaker 1: You know, try to take a little bit of time.
- 48:03Speaker 14: You know, went skiing with Carter, went skiing for three
- 48:06Speaker 14: days with him, and.
- 48:07Speaker 1: That was enough. I got more injuries.
- 48:10Speaker 14: No, no injuries, but you know, just try to make
- 48:12Speaker 14: some time for family, but also make time for for
- 48:16Speaker 14: work in this football team.
- 48:18Speaker 4: No, you got to start over at the beginning every year.
- 48:20Speaker 13: But is there some things that you can take from
- 48:22Speaker 13: that season you can stand and.
- 48:24Speaker 14: I don't know if you it's starting over from the beginning,
- 48:26Speaker 14: you know what I mean. I think you have to
- 48:28Speaker 14: start over from you know, the things that you feel
- 48:31Speaker 14: really really confident about moving forward and that you want
- 48:34Speaker 14: to build with and kind of go from there and
- 48:36Speaker 14: then you know, add the pieces and look to the
- 48:39Speaker 14: draft and look to free agency and you know, who
- 48:43Speaker 14: can you develop and what can you get out of
- 48:45Speaker 14: you know, somebody else that maybe you didn't think that
- 48:47Speaker 14: you had in him, or he didn't think he had
- 48:49Speaker 14: in himself, and you know, but those will be things
- 48:52Speaker 14: that we'll do here moving forward, just with our current team,
- 48:54Speaker 14: and then what it looks like going forward with the
- 48:57Speaker 14: pieces that we had.
- 48:58Speaker 9: I'll have to just ask you a little bit about
- 48:59Speaker 9: this obviously, Zach, you know, being promoted here defensive coordinator.
- 49:04Speaker 9: Just what did you see as an assistant that you
- 49:06Speaker 9: thought he could call plays, he'd be a good Yeah.
- 49:08Speaker 14: I just thought, you know, a very intelligent football coach
- 49:12Speaker 14: at an offensive background that when he came to Tennessee
- 49:16Speaker 14: provided us with a lot of information when we were
- 49:19Speaker 14: in those defensive meeting rooms on Hey, this is what
- 49:22Speaker 14: they're trying to do.
- 49:23Speaker 1: This is what.
- 49:23Speaker 14: Bothers or maybe forces them to do something differently.
- 49:27Speaker 1: And so that's how his.
- 49:28Speaker 14: Role started and then he progressed to it to a
- 49:31Speaker 14: defensive coach, handled our red zone installation and the presentation
- 49:38Speaker 14: and the conversations, and he continued to grow and then
- 49:42Speaker 14: when you know he got here, you know, it just
- 49:45Speaker 14: was obvious from an early time when when you know
- 49:48Speaker 14: Big T was, you know, working through some stuff that
- 49:50Speaker 14: Zach was capable of leading and also improved.
- 49:55Speaker 1: You know, each and every.
- 49:56Speaker 13: Week you've been a defensive coordinator, what are the biggest
- 49:59Speaker 13: challenge of having I mean, can you imagine yourself jumping
- 50:01Speaker 13: into that job kind of unexpectedly?
- 50:03Speaker 1: Well, I think as a position.
- 50:04Speaker 14: Coach you're always thinking about that, and I think that
- 50:07Speaker 14: when you try to think about that, like hey, what
- 50:09Speaker 14: what I call here?
- 50:10Speaker 1: What adjustment or what do we have to be careful
- 50:12Speaker 1: of here?
- 50:14Speaker 14: You're always just trying to train and sharpen and think
- 50:17Speaker 14: about that. Now, whether that matches up or marries up
- 50:19Speaker 14: with the with the play caller that that may not
- 50:23Speaker 14: always happen, but you're always in your head thinking about
- 50:26Speaker 14: that's the way that you have to look at it
- 50:28Speaker 14: just as the same way as you're sitting there and
- 50:30Speaker 14: you're thinking about, Hey, this is what the head coach
- 50:33Speaker 14: wants to do.
- 50:33Speaker 1: Is this what I would do? And I'm gonna.
- 50:35Speaker 14: Support this as a as a position coach or a coordinator,
- 50:38Speaker 14: I'm gonna I'm gonna support it.
- 50:39Speaker 1: But is this what I would do?
- 50:41Speaker 14: Most of the time it is. Sometimes it's it looks
- 50:43Speaker 14: a little different. So when you get your opportunity, you
- 50:45Speaker 14: know you can do those things.
- 50:47Speaker 9: When it comes to Terrell, you you mentioned at the
- 50:49Speaker 9: podium to get minutes goo that you have a vision
- 50:51Speaker 9: for his role. Can you just share any insight into
- 50:53Speaker 9: what that vision might be.
- 50:54Speaker 14: Yeah, it's again, it's it's going to be a strong
- 50:57Speaker 14: role on the defense, like he is going.
- 50:58Speaker 1: To act as a as.
- 51:00Speaker 14: A coordinator and presenting information and ideas and you know,
- 51:04Speaker 14: bringing us the front and making sure that we're we're
- 51:07Speaker 14: really solid across the front from our edges uh to
- 51:10Speaker 14: the interior. We've got some guys inside that I think
- 51:13Speaker 14: can continue to develop and grow, whether that's Milk or
- 51:18Speaker 14: Christian or anybody else. I think that those guys can
- 51:21Speaker 14: continue to get better. And Terrell's going to have a
- 51:24Speaker 14: large hand in that, but he's also going to be
- 51:26Speaker 14: able to help me, uh and extend, you know, being
- 51:30Speaker 14: an extension of me throughout our program.
- 51:32Speaker 13: I know you haven't jumped in too much on the
- 51:34Speaker 13: draft yet, but do you enjoy that process? Do you
- 51:36Speaker 13: gravitate towards maybe position you played or.
- 51:38Speaker 4: You like Do you like it? I mean, do you
- 51:40Speaker 4: have fun with trying to find these kids?
- 51:41Speaker 1: Of course? And it's important.
- 51:43Speaker 14: I mean, the draft is you know, has to be
- 51:47Speaker 14: the cornerstone of of your you know, your team, and
- 51:52Speaker 14: it's it's the youth and you put a lot of.
- 51:56Speaker 1: Time into these guys.
- 51:56Speaker 14: We spend a lot of time with the draft guys
- 51:59Speaker 14: and then the free agency if you don't know something
- 52:00Speaker 14: about them, you know, sometimes you don't know what what
- 52:03Speaker 14: you're getting. But we have a lot of knowledge of
- 52:06Speaker 14: these guys, and you're excited when you're able to get them,
- 52:09Speaker 14: and you know, whether you trade up for them, they
- 52:11Speaker 14: they're there when you pick, or you know you trade
- 52:14Speaker 14: back in the guy's there.
- 52:15Speaker 1: So you know, we have to we have to continue
- 52:18Speaker 1: to draft well.
- 52:19Speaker 14: And we have to continue to develop because that's the
- 52:21Speaker 14: only way that you can withstain or sustain the success
- 52:25Speaker 14: that we envision.
- 52:27Speaker 9: One of the players I want to ask you about
- 52:29Speaker 9: on your own team is Christian Gonzalez. Sure has up
- 52:31Speaker 9: for this extension maybe this offseason. What do you just
- 52:36Speaker 9: see in him? And do you want to make an
- 52:38Speaker 9: extension happen?
- 52:39Speaker 1: Well, we want to go.
- 52:40Speaker 14: Yeah, we we obviously want to move forward with all
- 52:42Speaker 14: our best players.
- 52:43Speaker 1: I think that that's something that I would want.
- 52:46Speaker 14: And I know that you know, Elliott Once and Ryan
- 52:49Speaker 14: once and Stretched once and Robert and Jonathan and our
- 52:52Speaker 14: fans want they want our best players to be on
- 52:54Speaker 14: our team as long as they're.
- 52:56Speaker 1: You know, really good players.
- 52:57Speaker 14: Uh again, I thought he got better. I thought he
- 53:01Speaker 14: played his best football down the stretch and I thought.
- 53:03Speaker 1: That that was good to see.
- 53:06Speaker 14: I talked about that, and yeah, that was something that
- 53:09Speaker 14: Gonzo and I, you know, would would talk about and share.
- 53:12Speaker 14: And you know, he is, he's a talented player. And
- 53:17Speaker 14: if I pushed him and asked him if he wants
- 53:20Speaker 14: to strive to be a captain, and he said that
- 53:23Speaker 14: he does, and I'm gonna help him try to get there.
- 53:24Speaker 14: And I want him to to come back with that
- 53:27Speaker 14: mindset of not only being an elite player, but also
- 53:30Speaker 14: being an elite leader and an elite teammate, which he
- 53:33Speaker 14: is an elite teammate, but you know, being able to
- 53:36Speaker 14: push these guys and communicate and use his intelligence and
- 53:40Speaker 14: what he.
- 53:40Speaker 1: Sees on the field, be able to help other guys.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Just one more for me, Mike.
- 53:45Speaker 13: I thought it was really interesting at the podium, he said,
- 53:47Speaker 13: you're challenging your coaches, you know, bring you something new
- 53:49Speaker 13: this offseason. Is there anything else that you feel like
- 53:52Speaker 13: you're kind of adjusting year two that you need to
- 53:54Speaker 13: make to maybe course correct or just change course.
- 53:57Speaker 14: I mean, we we have to left, We have to
- 53:59Speaker 14: get stronger. You know, when you have a young football team,
- 54:01Speaker 14: like you have to understand that this is a I mean,
- 54:04Speaker 14: this is a grown man sport like this is there's
- 54:06Speaker 14: a bunch of big.
- 54:07Speaker 1: Men out there playing this game.
- 54:10Speaker 14: And so I want to make sure that our players
- 54:12Speaker 14: understand how important.
- 54:13Speaker 1: You know, their physical development is.
- 54:18Speaker 14: They they may be skilled, but we you know, we
- 54:20Speaker 14: have some guys that you know, our team, like everybody's
- 54:23Speaker 14: at a different level, Like where where one player is
- 54:26Speaker 14: at twelve years into his career and other players in
- 54:28Speaker 14: his second year. Like here's what I always say, Like
- 54:32Speaker 14: nobody talks about Tom Brady.
- 54:33Speaker 1: In two thousand and one. In two thousand and.
- 54:36Speaker 14: How he changed his body and he maximized his God
- 54:39Speaker 14: given genetic ability. Everybody talks about TB twelve and the pliability,
- 54:44Speaker 14: they don't talk about how hard he worked in the
- 54:46Speaker 14: weight room and we lifted with the tight end and
- 54:48Speaker 14: the linebackers, and he squatted and he hanged, cleaned, and
- 54:51Speaker 14: he did all those things to make his body the
- 54:56Speaker 14: best that it could be for him to play quarterback
- 54:58Speaker 14: and to compete.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Uh and once his opportunity came.
- 55:02Speaker 14: So I think that's always a good reminder just looking
- 55:06Speaker 14: at what you know, how hard this player worked and
- 55:09Speaker 14: what people thought it was.
- 55:11Speaker 1: But you know, some of us that were.
- 55:13Speaker 14: There, you know, we got to see that, and you know,
- 55:16Speaker 14: I think that's just a good reminder that as a
- 55:18Speaker 14: young player you can still make a lot of gains
- 55:21Speaker 14: once you started your career.
- 55:23Speaker 9: Kind of along those same lines, when you did an
- 55:25Speaker 9: audit of the season in the Super Bowl, you guys
- 55:29Speaker 9: were a great offense during the regular season, Dans MVP
- 55:32Speaker 9: runner up. In the playoffs, it seemed to take maybe
- 55:35Speaker 9: a little bit of a step back. Is that, you know,
- 55:38Speaker 9: young guys in big spots, great defenses.
- 55:40Speaker 14: Well, I mean you obviously know what the type of
- 55:43Speaker 14: defenses that we played.
- 55:44Speaker 1: It wasn't like we were playing some rum dums. You know,
- 55:47Speaker 1: these guys were good and we didn't consistently do enough.
- 55:50Speaker 14: I thought there were times where we did and we
- 55:54Speaker 14: weren't able to sustain.
- 55:57Speaker 1: And we'll have to go back and understand it.
- 55:59Speaker 14: To be to put yourself in those positions and ultimately
- 56:02Speaker 14: win a championship, you're gonna have to beat good defenses,
- 56:06Speaker 14: whether that's at home or on the road or whatever.
- 56:07Speaker 14: That is so uh, the consistency of it, the ability
- 56:12Speaker 14: to create some X plays.
- 56:13Speaker 1: You know, it's hard to drive the ball ten or.
- 56:15Speaker 14: Twelve plays, and you know, just you have to be
- 56:19Speaker 14: have to be better, have to you know, improve the
- 56:22Speaker 14: details and improve the execution.
- 56:24Speaker 1: And we're all involved in it, you know, from the
- 56:27Speaker 1: coaching to the playing. Is it's on us all and
- 56:30Speaker 1: that's that will be our challenge going forward.
- 56:32Speaker 15: Is.
- 56:33Speaker 14: Yeah, we had success and there was some really good performances,
- 56:37Speaker 14: but you know, the margin for air when you get
- 56:41Speaker 14: into January, uh really shrinks.
- 56:46Speaker 4: Thank you guys, appreciate We'll see you back in Fox everybody.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys should ask more questions when you come back.
- 56:55Speaker 6: And now, great moments in.
- 56:59Speaker 1: History?
- 57:00Speaker 6: How would you pronounce my name in Italian?
- 57:02Speaker 1: The way you last name?
- 57:03Speaker 6: Paria, perula, Perillo.
- 57:07Speaker 3: That's how you should pronounce it in Italian. It's not
- 57:09Speaker 3: how I pronounce it. But yet he lets me get
- 57:11Speaker 3: away with that.
- 57:11Speaker 2: I guess, well, you're saying you don't pronounce the l's if.
- 57:16Speaker 6: It was Italian.
- 57:17Speaker 2: Yeah, no, prea no no.
- 57:20Speaker 4: In Spanish, you don't pronounce the l that is Italian.
- 57:23Speaker 1: You do.
- 57:23Speaker 3: They have both romance languages, and yes, but you pronounce
- 57:26Speaker 3: the two l's in Spanish.
- 57:27Speaker 2: You don't in Spanish.
- 57:28Speaker 6: It's why.
- 57:29Speaker 3: Well, I grew up with a guy named Rocky Delgadillo, Okay,
- 57:33Speaker 3: and that's how he pronounced his name.
- 57:35Speaker 2: Did he say muzzarel too?
- 57:37Speaker 1: You believe me?
- 57:38Speaker 6: This guy could not have been anymore off the boat.
- 57:41Speaker 2: So two Italians fighting over the language.
- 57:44Speaker 3: I'm not fighting over the language. I'm just asking him
- 57:46Speaker 3: both saying you're wrong. I'm asking him about his hipocrisy, Well, providence,
- 57:50Speaker 3: why one you're not the other?
- 57:52Speaker 2: I mean, you don't even know how to pronounce your
- 57:53Speaker 2: own name. It's stillavan.
- 57:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:55Speaker 2: I love what he does does it's Stillavano.
- 57:58Speaker 6: No, that's another great moment.
- 58:02Speaker 2: All right back here on Patriots Unfiltered eight five five
- 58:05Speaker 2: Pats five hundred podcasts at Patriots dot com is the
- 58:08Speaker 2: email address? What's what's interesting?
- 58:11Speaker 8: Report from our friend Jordan Schultz who apparently he's not
- 58:14Speaker 8: doing as much fighting as he used to have done.
- 58:15Speaker 4: He's really reporting these days?
- 58:17Speaker 15: Uh.
- 58:17Speaker 8: Former Browns will offensive tackle Jederick Willis, who sat out
- 58:20Speaker 8: last season to fully recover from an injury, has been
- 58:22Speaker 8: on a tour of visits with NFL teams, including the Patriots.
- 58:26Speaker 8: Visitor expected to continue. Former top ten pick Willis, who's
- 58:29Speaker 8: just twenty six, fully expects to be with an NFL
- 58:31Speaker 8: team this season.
- 58:32Speaker 2: So why did he Why did he so? Jordan Schultz
- 58:35Speaker 2: isn't from around here?
- 58:36Speaker 10: Is he thanks the start?
- 58:37Speaker 1: I want?
- 58:39Speaker 2: Why did he make a point to say including the Patriots.
- 58:41Speaker 9: Because Jedrick Wills's agent said, please give me a favor
- 58:44Speaker 9: and put out that Jedrick Wills wants to play next year?
- 58:47Speaker 2: But why Patriots? I'm not saying why wouldn't we be interested?
- 58:53Speaker 2: But why does Jordan Schultz of all the teams use
- 58:55Speaker 2: us as one of the including Well.
- 58:58Speaker 10: I guess maybe he was here. I don't know.
- 59:01Speaker 2: You just said he's going on a tour.
- 59:03Speaker 10: Well, I think he said that he was with the
- 59:05Speaker 10: Patriots and now is going someplace.
- 59:07Speaker 4: I mean perhaps, I'm not sure if this math works out.
- 59:10Speaker 2: So like Jordan Schull seems to be doing some a
- 59:13Speaker 2: lot of Patriots reporting lately.
- 59:15Speaker 10: Well, he's on the agent side for sure.
- 59:17Speaker 8: Drafted by the Browns in twenty twenty. Was Elliot Wolf
- 59:19Speaker 8: there with the Browns in twenty twenty. Perhaps there's some
- 59:21Speaker 8: kind of connection.
- 59:22Speaker 16: Oh never mind, this is his first year here. I think,
- 59:25Speaker 16: all right, I'm just curious, curious. All right, let's get
- 59:28Speaker 16: to the phones people have been patiently holding on. We'll
- 59:31Speaker 16: start with Sean and Vancouver. What's up, Sean Sred?
- 59:34Speaker 17: I got a couple of things, Evan, you came around
- 59:38Speaker 17: to Chris Browsel the third. I'm wondering what turned it
- 59:44Speaker 17: for you or what want them over for you? And
- 59:46Speaker 17: would you prefer him over at Denzel Boston? And then
- 59:50Speaker 17: the big thing though, that I want to talk about
- 59:52Speaker 17: is Fred. You're talking about the Patriots needs and and
- 59:57Speaker 17: you know this has been a conversation. I think it's
- 59:59Speaker 17: reallliant important that like Kevin said that we addressed this
- 1:00:02Speaker 17: in free agency. So I have five areas of need
- 1:00:06Speaker 17: that I'd love to see addressed in free agency.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: About three, let's short it top three okay.
- 1:00:13Speaker 17: Three, Okay, we'll just do do the offense then for
- 1:00:17Speaker 17: for the x fide receiver, like you're saying, Alex Pierce
- 1:00:21Speaker 17: makes the most sense tight end who can block like
- 1:00:24Speaker 17: Kate Auten and left guard David David Edwards.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: Okay, sounds good. Thanks, Sean, appreciate it.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: I like all the individuals that he picked. I just
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: think it's very little chance of big, big money at all.
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: Three.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Yeah, Christians in la uh Oh? What's up?
- 1:00:45Speaker 10: What are you upset about?
- 1:00:49Speaker 18: No, there's nothing dramatic. I just I'm a little upset
- 1:00:52Speaker 18: that we keep doing this thing that that we just
- 1:00:54Speaker 18: can't seem to get right in New England. We cannot
- 1:00:57Speaker 18: get a number one receiver a bit right, like we
- 1:01:01Speaker 18: get the wrong guy, someone that doesn't fit the systems. Listen,
- 1:01:04Speaker 18: Stefon Diggs played an amazing season this year, coming off
- 1:01:08Speaker 18: in ACL He's only going to get better next year.
- 1:01:11Speaker 18: And he's the kind of guy that has like a
- 1:01:13Speaker 18: chip on his shoulder and wants to prove himself. He's
- 1:01:16Speaker 18: also the kind of guy that we would restructure his
- 1:01:18Speaker 18: contract and he literally wants to be here. But here's
- 1:01:21Speaker 18: what I'm proposing. Maybe it's crazy. Maybe we keep Stefon
- 1:01:24Speaker 18: Diggs and then we get Alec Pierce. Also we get
- 1:01:28Speaker 18: rid of That's what I don't like these guys Mac Collins,
- 1:01:32Speaker 18: Kayshaun Booty and maybe even Pop Douglas. And we have
- 1:01:35Speaker 18: two guys behind those. We have Kyle Williams and Efen
- 1:01:39Speaker 18: Chism behind Diggs and Pierce to sort of develop, and
- 1:01:43Speaker 18: we can use that first round pick or free agency
- 1:01:46Speaker 18: to get a tight end or to address the offensive line.
- 1:01:49Speaker 18: I don't see why we keep doing this thing where
- 1:01:52Speaker 18: we're kind of outthinking ourselves.
- 1:01:54Speaker 9: Right, Okay, I get what he's saying about the wide receivers.
- 1:01:59Speaker 9: I mean they keep on trying to swing at wide receiver.
- 1:02:03Speaker 9: And I just think that one of the things that
- 1:02:05Speaker 9: Paul you brought it up first, like the whole Digs thing,
- 1:02:09Speaker 9: is there's a lot to unpack there. There's a lot
- 1:02:11Speaker 9: of layers that are just beyond They didn't want to
- 1:02:13Speaker 9: pay him the contract that he was owed in twenty
- 1:02:16Speaker 9: twenty six, and I think a lot of that is
- 1:02:18Speaker 9: maybe more of a factor than what's being made out
- 1:02:22Speaker 9: to be. I think because the money people really want
- 1:02:24Speaker 9: to hammer them on the money piece of it. And
- 1:02:27Speaker 9: I think there's a lot going on with Stefon Diggs that.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, especially towards.
- 1:02:32Speaker 10: The end of the sea.
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: I don't have any inside information on this. This is
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: just my view from you know, ten thousand feet. I
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: think it has as much to do with Diggs's whole
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: package then it has to do with the contract, because
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: I don't think the contract was quite frankly, I think
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: he was average annual value. I think he was twenty
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: third among wide receivers. The twenty point six million was
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: going to slay and that's going to go down because
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: like Alec Pierce for one, that doesn't count. I don't
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: think George Pickens with his franchise tag when he signs
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: that that see, he's going to go further down. I
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: don't think his contract was out of the realm of
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: you know, reasonable numbers at twenty million, right. I think
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: this has more to do with them sort of wondering.
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: You're too early instead of two late.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: What happened?
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: What happens if he becomes a real problem. And then
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: you know what kind of stuck with him because we
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: paid him the twenty million.
- 1:03:33Speaker 8: So your threat of the needle last year, I mean
- 1:03:35Speaker 8: you got ormance on and off the field with him,
- 1:03:38Speaker 8: you dodged. I mean, let's face it, a few bullets
- 1:03:40Speaker 8: with him off the field that dated back to the
- 1:03:43Speaker 8: very start of it all.
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: And I never thought that Stefan Diggs was going to.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: Be that one.
- 1:03:48Speaker 8: It always felt like he was going to be a placeholder,
- 1:03:51Speaker 8: somebody to get.
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: Drake up the speed.
- 1:03:53Speaker 8: But you know, I think we've been searching for the
- 1:03:55Speaker 8: quarterbacks so much that now you finally have a guy
- 1:03:57Speaker 8: in place that you believe in, and now I feel
- 1:04:00Speaker 8: like it's feasible to really attempt to find these guys
- 1:04:03Speaker 8: that Christian's talking about. Not to say that it wasn't before,
- 1:04:05Speaker 8: but when you have mac Jones and you know, you
- 1:04:07Speaker 8: don't know, and you're still trying to build a protection,
- 1:04:09Speaker 8: and now they're getting to the point where ye off
- 1:04:12Speaker 8: line they got And it's like.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: If I bought a Maserati and didn't have a garage,
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: if my plan isn't to build that garage, then don't
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: buy the Masarati.
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: But also I wouldn't discount. You know, there's been a
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: lot made of the last couple of years. It's you know,
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: Calvin Ridley, it's Brandon Ayuk, it's these guys that they've
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: been chasing and they can't get them, you know, even
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: DeAndre Hopkins that year.
- 1:04:36Speaker 6: I don't think that's that's a thing anymore.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: I think that they'll be able to pursue guys in
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: you know, Chris Godwin last year, just last year. I
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: think now they won't have to just take the only
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: one digs that says that'll say yes. I think they're
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: going to be very attractive with this young quarterback and
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: a team that's coming off a Super Bowl.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: Appearing, and don't forget the new training facility is right.
- 1:04:59Speaker 10: Yeah, I don't know if that's I think it's.
- 1:05:01Speaker 9: It's funny how like Diggs is going to end up
- 1:05:03Speaker 9: being a big reason why the plane got off the ground,
- 1:05:07Speaker 9: but he's just not going.
- 1:05:08Speaker 10: To be the one that lands it, you know what
- 1:05:09Speaker 10: I mean.
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: Like, and it's kind of, uh, you know, stinks for
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: him kind of in a way that that's he was
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: kind of that guinea pig, but he sort of was.
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: And I just think the one thing that you can't do,
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: is you can't just keep going year to year at
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: that position, Yes, because that's not really fair to Drake May, right,
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: like every fall into the Kansas City tree, right, and
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: you just say, well, Patrick will figure it out, Josh Allen,
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: you could figure it out if you get.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: A number one guy.
- 1:05:34Speaker 9: Now, if you get Alex Pierce, who's twenty six years old,
- 1:05:36Speaker 9: then you have some runway with him and Drake May together.
- 1:05:39Speaker 9: You don't want to get into a situation where, well,
- 1:05:41Speaker 9: we got A Diggs for a year, and now we're
- 1:05:43Speaker 9: going to hire mercenary A J. Brown for a year,
- 1:05:45Speaker 9: and now we're gonna.
- 1:05:46Speaker 6: About how about Brian Thomas.
- 1:05:50Speaker 10: He's available. I don't know why is he available?
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: Because supposedly he doesn't fit well with Trevor Lawrence and
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: what Liam Collen wants to do on offense, which is
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: a red flag. I fully recognize that's a red flag.
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: Like he's a young player, why are they looking to
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: move on from it? But that's a guy that has
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: obviously the ability and young in the prime of his career.
- 1:06:14Speaker 6: You get him still on his rookie contract.
- 1:06:17Speaker 8: I mean, I love what Evan's saying, just finding those
- 1:06:19Speaker 8: guys that Drake can build a long term relationship with.
- 1:06:22Speaker 8: You can't keep chasing the digs Is and the aj
- 1:06:24Speaker 8: Browns and every year you're on, you know, a one
- 1:06:26Speaker 8: year kind of deal, trying to plug that hole. You've
- 1:06:30Speaker 8: got to find a way to get some young players.
- 1:06:31Speaker 8: I mean that to me, I mean Ale Pierce being
- 1:06:33Speaker 8: young is one of the big appeals to him too.
- 1:06:35Speaker 8: And by the way, DJ Moore went for a second.
- 1:06:38Speaker 8: DJ Moore in a fifth.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: For a second.
- 1:06:41Speaker 10: It was during the break.
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: Oh sorry, I was for getting my stamach.
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: Oh okay, we weren't on the air when we said that.
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: I was going to call you Fred, But I'm not
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: going to call your Fred now. Now.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: I'm just going to say we were in a break.
- 1:06:52Speaker 9: I've seen some people break with that with the DJ
- 1:06:55Speaker 9: Moore thing, being like that's a hefty price, like bad
- 1:06:59Speaker 9: news for the Patriots of just talking about that, I don't.
- 1:07:01Speaker 9: I mean, it's this second for fifth and djil like
- 1:07:04Speaker 9: it's a pick swap, of.
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: Like it was a big pick swap. It's a big
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: pit swap. But I don't think that that's like a
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: sizable trade.
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: It's not outrageous.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: No, uh, Sabah is in North Carolina.
- 1:07:14Speaker 19: What's up, Hey there, gentlemen. It's so pleasure to just
- 1:07:19Speaker 19: listen to you guys in my living room. It's just
- 1:07:23Speaker 19: very enjoyable. So I just want to thank you. I
- 1:07:25Speaker 19: like listening to you guys.
- 1:07:28Speaker 14: Uh.
- 1:07:28Speaker 19: First of all about the wide receiver thing. Do not
- 1:07:31Speaker 19: get eighth Brown. I'm not a big diva person, and
- 1:07:34Speaker 19: I agree with you on Stefan Dick to think he's
- 1:07:36Speaker 19: the guy you date, not Mary. So, like you said,
- 1:07:39Speaker 19: you throw the needle with him and you want to
- 1:07:41Speaker 19: have great memories when it's over. You don't want it
- 1:07:43Speaker 19: to get ugly, which you could. And I love Stephan
- 1:07:46Speaker 19: Diggs and your team, I really did, but I would
- 1:07:48Speaker 19: not get a J. Brown. He demeans his quarterbacks, just
- 1:07:51Speaker 19: ask the Philadelphia Hurts. He read books on the sidelines.
- 1:07:56Speaker 19: He's dairy like I want the ball instead of letting
- 1:07:58Speaker 19: the offense come to him. So I think the best
- 1:08:01Speaker 19: way for the Patriots to win Super Bowls is to
- 1:08:04Speaker 19: do like Tom Brady. He never had that one guy,
- 1:08:05Speaker 19: and when he did have moss y'all didn't win the
- 1:08:07Speaker 19: Super Bowl. So I say go with by committee. And
- 1:08:11Speaker 19: I like that fierce guy. Now I have one thing
- 1:08:14Speaker 19: for you guys to consider. I know it's out of
- 1:08:16Speaker 19: the box, and you can call me crazy, but I
- 1:08:18Speaker 19: don't like your left side of the line at all. I
- 1:08:19Speaker 19: would not double down with them. I would cut braids.
- 1:08:22Speaker 19: I would trade your left guard and that left tackle
- 1:08:25Speaker 19: got from L s U for Max Crosby. Straight up?
- 1:08:29Speaker 19: Would they do that?
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: The d think the Raiders would no.
- 1:08:35Speaker 19: Throwing a fourth round pick?
- 1:08:37Speaker 6: No, No, I think throwing two ones. And maybe.
- 1:08:43Speaker 19: It's better with your backups in there.
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: You don't like the left side of the Patriots line, right,
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: you don't like the left tackle and the left guy.
- 1:08:52Speaker 19: We were on a good call, right, I don't like them.
- 1:08:55Speaker 6: You don't.
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: You don't like them, But the Raiders are going to
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: like them and give up their best player for them.
- 1:08:59Speaker 19: Well, I thought the Raiders have a horrible off of
- 1:09:02Speaker 19: the line, and I.
- 1:09:02Speaker 6: Think, but but you don't think those players are.
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: Good, So they would still have a horrible offensive line.
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: I guess the Are they going to be any better
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: at the Raiders?
- 1:09:16Speaker 20: No?
- 1:09:16Speaker 19: Probably not. That's why I would get rid of get
- 1:09:18Speaker 19: rid of.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: Them, right, So, but the Raiders might know that, So
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: I mean it's I mean obviously.
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: Unreally, you're not going to trade two, you know, second
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: year offensive lineman who started for you for the whole season.
- 1:09:27Speaker 6: You're going to give them a chance continue to do nobody.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: I like the creative thinking. I like the creative thinking, generous.
- 1:09:35Speaker 19: In a double down, they're gonna cut, you gotta cut
- 1:09:38Speaker 19: your losses.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: Well, I don't think it's a loss yet. I don't
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: think the Patriots think it's a loss yet. I think that,
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: you know, I think you might move Wilson at center,
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: and I think they think that Campbell can get stronger
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: and and have a year two jump. So I don't
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: think they think it's a loss yet.
- 1:09:53Speaker 19: All right, Well, I like the Pierce thing, but get
- 1:09:55Speaker 19: the line fixed absolutely, and I don't want any divas
- 1:09:59Speaker 19: in the house. Avoid again, Well.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: Then you don't like.
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: You don't want any receivers except for justin Jefferson.
- 1:10:07Speaker 10: All right, thanks on the sideline.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: Eric is in Louisiana. What's up? Eric? As?
- 1:10:14Speaker 10: He should be.
- 1:10:15Speaker 21: Right, Jefferson, Hey, how y'all doing?
- 1:10:20Speaker 15: I just wanted to ask this one question of obviously,
- 1:10:25Speaker 15: we drafted Will Campbell, Treyvon Henderson, and Kyle Williams last
- 1:10:29Speaker 15: year and it was a struggle for them at times,
- 1:10:35Speaker 15: but they obviously picked it up and they showed promise.
- 1:10:41Speaker 15: What is the expectation for the draft picks are coming
- 1:10:45Speaker 15: into this year to say that, Okay, we have something here.
- 1:10:50Speaker 15: We don't have to worry about this spot anymore. So,
- 1:10:54Speaker 15: like as far as like edge, wide receiver and like
- 1:10:59Speaker 15: the line back, like is it stats is something or
- 1:11:08Speaker 15: be something that's gonna be like, Oh, we don't have
- 1:11:10Speaker 15: to worry about this certain position in the future.
- 1:11:16Speaker 10: Okay, I'm not sure I understand the question.
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: I'm not sure I follow Eric. Yeah, quarterback, but I
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: mean otherwise, I.
- 1:11:22Speaker 8: Think you can if it's not an immediate need, it's
- 1:11:24Speaker 8: a long term need. I'd say cornerback is not an
- 1:11:26Speaker 8: immediate you know, maybe day one need.
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: But Carlton Davis, you know you're gonna need some depth there.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: That's showing you resign Gonzales, which I'm expecting I would.
- 1:11:36Speaker 6: I would agree with Mike on that.
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: You know, running back is probably not a pressing need
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: right now, but it's it's going to be and they
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: probably need some depth there too. Tight end is a need,
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: Wide receivers in need, edges a need. I mean, is
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: Barbo going to stay. Then maybe defensive tackle isn't necessarily
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: a need with Williams and Barmore back again, you know
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: this quarterback, it's kind of is that what he was asking?
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: What positions do you look at and say, like, that's
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: not you know, we're set there.
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: I think that's the NFL too, though.
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: It's just it's it's everybody's you.
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: Know, it's not for long league. That's what it is.
- 1:12:11Speaker 6: And the reason why you say quarterback is because you
- 1:12:12Speaker 6: only need one of them.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: You have it.
- 1:12:15Speaker 10: Long snapper.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: Hey, yeah, said, assuming you're signing, assuming good gonsip I
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: feel good or not. I'd always like another good cornerback,
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: but that's not a priority.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:12:28Speaker 8: Yeah, we were talking a little bit about that with
- 1:12:30Speaker 8: Bradley at the at the linebacker position.
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: I think that's a good position to talk about because you.
- 1:12:34Speaker 8: Know, Gibbons isn't an r f A, so that's and
- 1:12:37Speaker 8: he wasn't drafted, so you could easily give him. I mean,
- 1:12:39Speaker 8: I think you'd make less than me last year, so
- 1:12:40Speaker 8: they're probably not going to do that. They probably look
- 1:12:42Speaker 8: more to give him a two or three year deal.
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: But that's one spot where I don't like.
- 1:12:47Speaker 8: I don't think that you know, I love Spoline, but
- 1:12:49Speaker 8: I don't know about the guys next to him. How
- 1:12:51Speaker 8: if either one of those are you know, real blue
- 1:12:53Speaker 8: chip kind of guys. So I could see them trying
- 1:12:55Speaker 8: to upgrade it. But at the same time, if you
- 1:12:56Speaker 8: have to go in the next season with that same
- 1:12:58Speaker 8: three guys with other priorities l s where it might
- 1:13:01Speaker 8: be one of those positions where you just kind of
- 1:13:02Speaker 8: have to bite the bullet.
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: I think there's always positions like that where you.
- 1:13:05Speaker 8: Don't go in feeling like, oh, we've got an all
- 1:13:07Speaker 8: star group, but it's going to be good enough for
- 1:13:09Speaker 8: this year.
- 1:13:10Speaker 9: I think that there's a lot of positions like that
- 1:13:12Speaker 9: in the draft, where like again, if you go into
- 1:13:15Speaker 9: the draft without a bunch of needs that you have
- 1:13:17Speaker 9: to fill immediately. Linebackers, it's a great linebacker class, a
- 1:13:21Speaker 9: great off ball linebacker class, one of which is kind
- 1:13:24Speaker 9: of a dying position. So it's been a couple of
- 1:13:26Speaker 9: years since they've had one of those, So you would
- 1:13:29Speaker 9: like to draft one of those guys. But if you
- 1:13:31Speaker 9: need a left guard, and you need another wide receiver,
- 1:13:33Speaker 9: and you need an edge rusher, like now, all of
- 1:13:35Speaker 9: a sudden, like we're throwing darts at on Day three
- 1:13:37Speaker 9: at linebacker. So like, if you can get some of
- 1:13:40Speaker 9: these things done in free agency, then I think you
- 1:13:42Speaker 9: start drafting for the future. Like the other position I
- 1:13:45Speaker 9: keep hearing so much about is right tackle and how
- 1:13:47Speaker 9: they need to draft the right tackle of the future. Well,
- 1:13:50Speaker 9: they're not in a luxury position right now to be
- 1:13:52Speaker 9: drafting a right tackle of the future at thirty one.
- 1:13:55Speaker 9: Like I see a lot of mocks with Blake Miller.
- 1:13:57Speaker 9: I think he's a good player too, But like, are
- 1:13:59Speaker 9: you in a spot right now where you can draft
- 1:14:01Speaker 9: a player that's not going to play in twenty twenty six?
- 1:14:04Speaker 9: Like this isn't Nate Solder, Like we're not in that
- 1:14:07Speaker 9: era of Patriots football where their roster is just stacked
- 1:14:10Speaker 9: and they have the luxury to make those types of picks.
- 1:14:13Speaker 9: So hopefully in free agency they do a lot and
- 1:14:16Speaker 9: they can figure that.
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: Proctor going thirty one in Charles Davis's mock draft.
- 1:14:20Speaker 9: Yeah, like Cayden Broctor, So you're gonna draft him to
- 1:14:22Speaker 9: play right tackle two years from now and and do
- 1:14:25Speaker 9: what in the meantime and like that, and you look
- 1:14:27Speaker 9: at you know, Ed Dresher and they got you know,
- 1:14:30Speaker 9: they got bodies right like it just it doesn't seem
- 1:14:33Speaker 9: like they're there yet to make that kind of pick.
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: Travis in West Virginia wants to know, you get on
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: your own nerves talking about the same four wide receivers
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: for two hours every show for the past month.
- 1:14:44Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, yeah, but there's a lot of truth through that. Yeah. Sure,
- 1:14:49Speaker 6: there's a repetitive nature too.
- 1:14:51Speaker 8: Well, wait, all the draft happened, I know, but it's
- 1:14:53Speaker 8: cycles and all of a sudden somebody will sign somewhere
- 1:14:56Speaker 8: and then you'll never talk about them.
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: I will say this, this year has been light years
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: better than the last two in that regard, because we were.
- 1:15:04Speaker 10: Talking about like since November.
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: We were talking about Will Campbell's arms from November on
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: last year, and the year before that, we were talking
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: about Jayden Daniels and Drake May and JJ McCarthy had
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: nauseum from November on.
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: How long have we.
- 1:15:20Speaker 6: Take this over that?
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: How long have we been coveting AJ Brown?
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: Like?
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: And is there any other fan base.
- 1:15:25Speaker 8: That covers a wide receiver more than Patriots fans talk
- 1:15:28Speaker 8: about a J.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: Brown?
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: Larry Fitzgerald, that's a good one, counter right right. Someone
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: put out that that that meme today with a little
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: little year.
- 1:15:40Speaker 6: It was Kyler Murray Minnesota.
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: The thing that's funny now, it's it's it's what we do.
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: I believe me. I I would love to see what
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: this show looks like.
- 1:15:51Speaker 8: Where the Patriots have a number one wide receiver like
- 1:15:54Speaker 8: no joke, like that, we have Jamar.
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: Chase on the team.
- 1:15:57Speaker 8: And because I would say a great majority of call
- 1:16:00Speaker 8: somehow relate to finding a number one, why we can't
- 1:16:03Speaker 8: find the number one.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Was a number seven?
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: I tried to branch out a little bit. I brought
- 1:16:07Speaker 6: up Brian Thomas and Romeo Dobbs.
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: That's good, you're bringing new names to thank you.
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: For spicing it. Brian Thomas is a good pull Justin Wrightson.
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: Let's say hypothetically we signed Pierce to a contract where
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: he's on a three year deal making twenty eight million
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: a year, how much money would we have left over
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: to try to get back guys like Tongo or Hawkins,
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: Alec Pierce or training for aj Brown. Feels like the
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: only big move the Patriots will be able to make
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: after that. I don't know how many guys they'd be
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: able to sign a free agency.
- 1:16:36Speaker 9: Well, they have fifty seven million dollars in cap space
- 1:16:39Speaker 9: after cutting digs and so if you're signing Al Pierce
- 1:16:42Speaker 9: over a multiple year contract, if we're just going by
- 1:16:45Speaker 9: the cap. Now, if you want to talk about the
- 1:16:46Speaker 9: whole Felger and maz Cash thing, then that's a totally
- 1:16:48Speaker 9: different argument. But if you're just talking about the cap,
- 1:16:51Speaker 9: they are more than fine. Especially if we're talking about
- 1:16:54Speaker 9: the Tongas and the Jalen Hawkins.
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: I'm gonna say, are we considering those like big? Like, No,
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: You're gonna have no money to sign those guys, right,
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: Like we're talking about Gonzales, Right, you need money, Just
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: sign Gonzales.
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: We didn't talk about Alex austen uportally not coming.
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: It's not gonna come back.
- 1:17:12Speaker 10: I mean, he didn't play last I.
- 1:17:13Speaker 6: Didn't know about that.
- 1:17:15Speaker 8: But it's funny though, I mean, I mean, tong has
- 1:17:17Speaker 8: been on what three four teams? He signed a one
- 1:17:18Speaker 8: year deal last year worth two point seven million, And
- 1:17:21Speaker 8: I've had this conversation a couple times, like how are
- 1:17:23Speaker 8: we going to resign Tongue? And I'm like, he was
- 1:17:25Speaker 8: a good player, but I don't think that the two
- 1:17:26Speaker 8: down nose tackles, that's not a hard spot to find
- 1:17:30Speaker 8: to have them back.
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: But even if we're double that, right, which he probably won't,
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: but even if he doubled that, like what are you
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: talking about being precluded to make a move like that?
- 1:17:40Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean I agree that if they signed at Pearce,
- 1:17:42Speaker 9: that's their big fish of the off season. They're not
- 1:17:44Speaker 9: going to then go also signed Trey Hendrickson or something
- 1:17:48Speaker 9: like that.
- 1:17:48Speaker 6: Most likely those are big, big, big ticket like that.
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: Like Paul said, you go in the cushions of your couch,
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: you can find the money.
- 1:17:54Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, I mean, come on, but I I it
- 1:17:58Speaker 9: is a very very good nose tackle draft.
- 1:18:01Speaker 10: It's just that nose tackles are back.
- 1:18:03Speaker 9: There's like five of them in the top fifty, and
- 1:18:06Speaker 9: like it's like it's like nineteen eighty five. I'm like,
- 1:18:08Speaker 9: where did all Like all these guys are just gap
- 1:18:12Speaker 9: eating space eating.
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: Bleak calb Banks.
- 1:18:16Speaker 9: Yeah, like all the kid from Ohio State McDonald like
- 1:18:20Speaker 9: all they're all like three hundred and thirty pounds nose tackles.
- 1:18:24Speaker 10: Not Milton Williams.
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: Dominique Orange is another one.
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: Yeah, big Citrus that's his nicknag.
- 1:18:33Speaker 10: Yeah, Citrus.
- 1:18:37Speaker 9: F I S I was stated I was big it's
- 1:18:41Speaker 9: not the guy was big Citrus.
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: Aaron in Connecticut writes in Huge Fan First Email when
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: fans are critical of potential contracts for free agents. Paul
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: and Evan slash Alex on Catch twenty two of asked,
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: who cares how much they pay the player is successful?
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: I agree, no one cares if the player hits. I
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: think the concern is the opportunity cost. If we overpay
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: for multiple free agents, does it reduce the number of
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: shots we can take in our subsequent chances to find
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: a perfect fit. Just a thought.
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: No, if it doesn't work, it hurts your team, But
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: the next year comes around and you figure out how
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: to deal with.
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: The guy, you know, like it's always gonna be another
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: Johnny Smith.
- 1:19:22Speaker 6: That was the exact name I was thinking of.
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: You overpaid, didn't work, you move on like it didn't hurt,
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: That didn't prevent them from doing anything. It just I
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: I think this is a continuation of that. And I
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: kind of set my piece on it Tuesday, and I
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: got some criticism for it.
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: Like, I just don't understand why you'll criticize you just
- 1:19:45Speaker 6: you know, on the t.
- 1:19:49Speaker 9: I just don't understand, like people that because all this
- 1:19:52Speaker 9: out peer stuff is going crazy on on Patriots Twitter.
- 1:19:54Speaker 9: So like people are like, I'm not paying him a
- 1:19:57Speaker 9: penny more than twenty eight million a year, Like what
- 1:19:59Speaker 9: you can't?
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: And I'm like, so if it's a differences, perfectly fine.
- 1:20:02Speaker 9: But if the difference between getting the player is paying
- 1:20:05Speaker 9: him thirty instead of twenty eight, you're just you're done
- 1:20:08Speaker 9: at twenty eight like that two million dollars they really are, you.
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: Know, not every player should be perceived to be the same.
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: Like I might look at this guy differently than Mike
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: looks at him, and that's fine. Like I would just
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: say that I understand. If you don't want to pay
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: Alec Pearce twenty eight million, then you don't want Alec Pierce,
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: and that's okay. You don't have to want every guy
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: that other people want. I think you'd be a good fit.
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: Do I think that would be an overpay for Alec Pierce?
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: Probably?
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: In free agency, you overpay, And I always fall back
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: on my tried and true You know who else was
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: an overpay last year at this time, Milton Williams. They
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: overpaid for a guy who had not done that in
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: his career. And I don't think any Patriot fan would
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: sit back and say, I wish we didn't do that.
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: The only time the guy's a good player. Good players
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: cost money.
- 1:21:06Speaker 8: The only time I ever think about this money stuff
- 1:21:08Speaker 8: is when it gets to who is getting paid way
- 1:21:11Speaker 8: more than they have performed and who was a cut candidate?
- 1:21:14Speaker 8: Like who can they what contracts can they get rid of?
- 1:21:16Speaker 8: It's not going to be a ton of a dead cap.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: And if they.
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: Couldn't do that, Mike, I'd be more on board. If
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: this was the NHL, I'd be much more cash conscious
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: because you can't just get out from under bad contracts.
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: You signed Matt Bileski to this free agent deal and
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: it handcuffs you for years because you can't just cut
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: him like you can cut him, but he's still counting
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: the same on the gap.
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: I don't know if this was accurate, but they were
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: saying on Goods yesterday that the total that we were
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: told the contract was was like in the sixty millions,
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: and he only got like twenty million of it, you know.
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: So it's like the only thing that you can come
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: back at is like budget, but right budget. So like
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: when we were talking about when we were talking about
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: earlier like if they sign out of Pears and brought
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: Digs back for less money, Well, like, what's their budget
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: for the wide receiver room that year? Because like, I
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: don't think that they can afford both those guys. It
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: based off of the budget. I don't know that. I'm
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: just saying, I'm assuming.
- 1:22:17Speaker 9: I'm guessing that they wouldn't do that, But like that's cash,
- 1:22:20Speaker 9: Like that's real cash spending. Yeah, in terms of like
- 1:22:23Speaker 9: how much do we have as a budget for the
- 1:22:25Speaker 9: team in twenty twenty six?
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: Ben and Hershey, Pennsylvania. What And you know, we like
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: to answer all kinds of questions here, you know, like
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: so people that aren't really into you know, the x's
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: and o's, like Evan have a question, we want to
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: field it. Okay, what actually makes someone a wide receiver?
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: One?
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: Is it where they line up, how many targets they get,
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: the coverage they draw up, being a top ten, top twelve,
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: top sixteen wide receiver in the NFL or just being
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: the most talented receiver on the team. What's the real definition?
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: The most obvious Patriots wide receiver one was Randy Moss,
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: But what about Edelman, Gronk Branch. Where do you draw
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: the line. If Diggs was drawing heavy coverage down the
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: stretch last season and had a thousand receiving yards, was
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: he not worthy of the w R one label? Why not?
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: What was missing? So it's a that's an excellent question.
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: It's an excellent question. I would say he had it
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: right in a his first part. It would be my definition.
- 1:23:18Speaker 6: You guys might all have.
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: Like every team has I think a w R one,
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: but it's relative to your team.
- 1:23:25Speaker 9: So every team that has a number one starter, but
- 1:23:27Speaker 9: not every team has an ACE, right right?
- 1:23:29Speaker 10: Yeah, Red Sox have an ace the other team Derek.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: One WR one or is he a player who?
- 1:23:36Speaker 14: Ye?
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: And I would say that is the weapon. Diggs was
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: their best receiver last year. I don't think he would
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: have been based on his season. Would have been WR
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: one for a lot of other teams. Now there were
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: I'm not saying no other teams. There would have been
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: plenty of teams that he would have been that.
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: So now I think WR one came about through fantasy football.
- 1:23:55Speaker 6: Right, there's no doubt.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: And fantasy football is all about stats. So if you're
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: looking at it from the true origin of it, it
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: would be who has that? That's why I liked his explanation.
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: Is is it a guy who is the number one
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: guy that he like generates coverage, he dictates the other
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: team's matchups, And that, to me is a true I
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: hate the WR one nonsense that that's a true number
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: one receiver. Is a guy who the other team goes
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: in and says, when we're talking about their passing game,
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: that's the guy.
- 1:24:26Speaker 10: We have Tuesday players.
- 1:24:27Speaker 9: Yeah, when they get into the game plan meeting on Tuesdays,
- 1:24:30Speaker 9: who's circled on the depth chart?
- 1:24:31Speaker 10: And I think.
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: Diggs was that.
- 1:24:33Speaker 6: Diggs was that for the Patriots.
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think, you know, like he's not Jefferson
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: or Chase or Well.
- 1:24:39Speaker 10: I think that those guys.
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: YEA.
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: The answer has to be the answer is who do
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: we take out? Has to be a tough answer to
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: be a WR one. If it's an easy answer, he's
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: not a true WR one.
- 1:24:49Speaker 9: I think the first part of the answer is a
- 1:24:52Speaker 9: coverage dictating receiver, somebody that's at the top of the
- 1:24:55Speaker 9: depth chart that we either have to put our number
- 1:24:57Speaker 9: one corner on him, if we have a stud corner,
- 1:24:59Speaker 9: we have to double them.
- 1:25:00Speaker 10: Whatever.
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: A true number one receiver, like a true star number
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: one receiver beats the double team. I was just gonna say,
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: right like that, that's the definition is Yeah, that's the
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: guy you identify, but you can't.
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: Take him out.
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: It's a problems too good, right problem?
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: Like I got a true number one receiver is JSN
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: Pooka Nakua like a guy that just you can double them,
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: but Pokku is getting open and getting the ball.
- 1:25:24Speaker 10: Anyway, Let's let's.
- 1:25:25Speaker 8: Play a little game then, because I was wondering, like
- 1:25:27Speaker 8: how many actual number one receivers are there in the NFL.
- 1:25:30Speaker 6: And that's why I also liked his.
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: You know, what do you say, like sixteen or seventeen,
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: because I would say probably half the league.
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: Yeah, no, he's just asked.
- 1:25:37Speaker 6: No I liked I liked his.
- 1:25:39Speaker 9: That's why I think the different thing with Digs, Like
- 1:25:41Speaker 9: Diggs is a number one receiver for the last year
- 1:25:44Speaker 9: in my opinion, but he wasn't beating double teams anymore.
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: Yeah, when they took him out.
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: He was out, whereas some of these other guys that
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: do this is going to ratt along.
- 1:25:52Speaker 8: But just like so, just going in order of receptions
- 1:25:54Speaker 8: from last year, JSN and Puka top two, right, I
- 1:25:57Speaker 8: was number one, number one, George Pickens the number one one.
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: I would say Cede Lamb is their number one.
- 1:26:03Speaker 8: Jamar Chase definitely, yes, Emon Ross, Saint Brown, Yes, Trey
- 1:26:07Speaker 8: McBride is the.
- 1:26:09Speaker 4: But they Flowers No, no, well.
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: Hold on Flowers.
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: I was the number one receiver like Diggs is. Yeah,
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: they like, here's the volume yet. But also but they
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: don't have a number one receiver.
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: That's part of the Probably Nico Collins.
- 1:26:25Speaker 6: Nico Collins is number one in my book.
- 1:26:26Speaker 10: Yeah, he's a number one receiver.
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: William except against Amra is their number one.
- 1:26:32Speaker 10: Yeah, Cede Lamb, Yeah.
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: Lamb the Cowboys number one.
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: I think he is the number one. He produces, he's
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: we all agree. Yeah, but they were saying on your
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: shows yesterday that.
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: They hate everybody in the league socks. They're like when
- 1:26:46Speaker 6: they leave repaid this.
- 1:26:48Speaker 9: I mean, I'm not saying that he's like, you know,
- 1:26:49Speaker 9: I get what his shows are saying about his competitiveness
- 1:26:52Speaker 9: and all that, But talent wise, he's a top ten.
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: Receiver in Justin Jefferson, Yeah, Portland Sutton.
- 1:26:58Speaker 6: No, No, So I don't think he is.
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: I think he's a number one receiver. Yes, I don't
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: think he's their number one, but he's not.
- 1:27:04Speaker 4: Elite in the League one. Dale Robinson, No, No, that's
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: my tech.
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: McMillan, Yes, trending.
- 1:27:12Speaker 6: McMillan is number one receiver upwards.
- 1:27:15Speaker 4: Dafon Diggs number sixty.
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: In receiving, DeVante.
- 1:27:18Speaker 6: Smith Davante Smith No nastic.
- 1:27:21Speaker 4: Classic classic, Robin almost threw all the thousand of my receivers.
- 1:27:25Speaker 4: Michael Wilson of Arizona had a thousand yards, A J.
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: Brown Yes, yes, and Alec Pearson then a Mecca Buca
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: rounds out the I would say trending.
- 1:27:34Speaker 6: I would say no on both of those, but I
- 1:27:36Speaker 6: think Abuka could.
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: Be that Deebo. Samuel used to be in his prime,
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: but not anymore. He's available, right.
- 1:27:42Speaker 9: He's Hopkins Cooks who are just perpetually free agency.
- 1:27:48Speaker 6: Samuel, to me is the poster child.
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: And it actually worked exactly the way everybody said it
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: would when the when the Niners were like running him
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: out of the back and he was all pissed about.
- 1:28:02Speaker 6: It, and everybody's like, this guy, this guy's getting killed.
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: There's no way he's gonna last and not exact narrate everybody.
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: Said he was saying it.
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: No, I know, but everybody agreed and you know, yeah,
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: it's it's played out exactly like that.
- 1:28:16Speaker 6: He's a shell of his former self.
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: L from Wisconsin says the beauty of emails is that
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: Fred can choose to ignore the ones that makes the
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: same points. The problem with calls is when someone calls
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: in today saying, Hey, what do you guys think about
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: a J. Brown Fair?
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: Would you create enjoy one?
- 1:28:34Speaker 6: Mailer?
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: Oh, I like that. I like the crime. It's lovely,
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: it's delicious. I'm here for Zach in New Hampshire. What's up, Zach?
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: He yes, yes, it's just I.
- 1:28:51Speaker 20: Just wanted to get Evans take on Harold Perkins Junior,
- 1:28:55Speaker 20: the linebacker from LSU potentially as like a chess piece
- 1:28:59Speaker 20: type of guy. Know, dak Kore likes the scheme uplets,
- 1:29:02Speaker 20: just wanted to get your take on that.
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: Why don't you want my take on him?
- 1:29:05Speaker 10: It's a good question.
- 1:29:06Speaker 13: Well I'll take.
- 1:29:08Speaker 9: I don't know who he is, Go ahead, Evan, Yeah,
- 1:29:11Speaker 9: he was somebody that was really hot that during like
- 1:29:14Speaker 9: the start of the college football season. He's kind of
- 1:29:15Speaker 9: fallen off into a Day two pick now kind of
- 1:29:18Speaker 9: like a hybrid player.
- 1:29:19Speaker 10: It can play a little bit.
- 1:29:21Speaker 9: Off the ball, on the ball, athletic dude, a good
- 1:29:24Speaker 9: coverage player. I don't hate the player, but something has
- 1:29:29Speaker 9: been off with him. Didn't have a great season at LSU,
- 1:29:32Speaker 9: and then he kind of fell down the board a
- 1:29:33Speaker 9: little bit as we've moved on here, you know, going
- 1:29:36Speaker 9: into college football season last fall, like some people are
- 1:29:39Speaker 9: like Harold Perkins, top twenty player in this class, and
- 1:29:41Speaker 9: now we're looking at him as like a Day two pick.
- 1:29:43Speaker 9: So put him in that group, you know him, Jacob Rodriguez.
- 1:29:48Speaker 9: You know all those linebackers are kind of in that
- 1:29:50Speaker 9: Day two cluster. He's in that group, wouldn't you say?
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: Though?
- 1:29:53Speaker 8: You know, when Bill's defense, it was hard to kind
- 1:29:56Speaker 8: of pin that spot, like he wanted bigger dudes on
- 1:29:58Speaker 8: the inside. And now it just feels like these guys
- 1:30:00Speaker 8: are more in play, Like I don't think built in
- 1:30:02Speaker 8: one hundred years with draft Rodriguez, even though he's probably
- 1:30:05Speaker 8: for special teams, but like, these guys can play in
- 1:30:07Speaker 8: this vable.
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: So Seth, what's your take on him?
- 1:30:11Speaker 20: I mean, I really like him. Obviously, the freshman was
- 1:30:14Speaker 20: considered a top ten pick, one of the top players
- 1:30:16Speaker 20: in the nation, and then tour the ACL and has
- 1:30:18Speaker 20: had two down seasons, but he played the star position
- 1:30:21Speaker 20: at LSU, so I think, you know, you can really
- 1:30:24Speaker 20: move him around.
- 1:30:24Speaker 15: I think he's a freak.
- 1:30:25Speaker 20: And then one more I just wanted to know about.
- 1:30:28Speaker 20: You saw Jeremy Bernard as like a younger Deebo Samuel. Yeah,
- 1:30:32Speaker 20: and then I'll take it off here.
- 1:30:33Speaker 9: Than Okay, thanks ch Yeah, I see him a little
- 1:30:36Speaker 9: bit different than Deebo. I think he's more of a
- 1:30:38Speaker 9: complete receiver than Debo, but not not the ballcarrier that
- 1:30:42Speaker 9: Debo was coming out. But yeah, he's smooth, like he
- 1:30:46Speaker 9: looks like he's like running around in it's effortless. Uh,
- 1:30:49Speaker 9: really good change of direction, really good at the top
- 1:30:51Speaker 9: of the route, efficient mover. There's something about his play
- 1:30:56Speaker 9: strength and just sort of his physicality that's lacking. He's
- 1:30:59Speaker 9: the not have very good numbers on like contested targets,
- 1:31:03Speaker 9: finishing in traffic, finishing through contact, like all that kind
- 1:31:07Speaker 9: of stuff that does matter in the league a lot
- 1:31:10Speaker 9: more than it matters in college. So that's sort of
- 1:31:12Speaker 9: the knock on him. But I think he's trending towards
- 1:31:15Speaker 9: fringe top fifty. Ye know, I'll be a second rounder
- 1:31:17Speaker 9: for sure.
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: Tom and New Jersey is a quick would you rather
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: gain ready? Would you rather wide receiver? Brandon Ayuk or
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: Juan Jennings.
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: Jan I think Brandon Ayuk's career is done?
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Alex Pierce or A J. Brown, Alec Alec
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: Pierce Now yeah, boy Mafe or kay Levon Chason.
- 1:31:41Speaker 6: I'm going to say, chase him because he was here
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: and I know it worked.
- 1:31:44Speaker 10: I'm with you.
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: I like Kobe Dean or Devin Lloyd, Devin Lloyd Isaiah
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: likely or.
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: I like Nikobe Dean. I'm going to be okay, I
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: like I saw him who k probably Kate.
- 1:32:00Speaker 6: I don't know out I'm not. I'm not enamored with
- 1:32:04Speaker 6: either one, but.
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: Last two reguards left guards Isaac.
- 1:32:09Speaker 9: Or Joe so Sue Malo's younger. Yeah, but Tonio is
- 1:32:15Speaker 9: like a like a dig situation, like you're going to
- 1:32:17Speaker 9: get him for a year, and that would.
- 1:32:19Speaker 6: Be my only question. I know both of those names,
- 1:32:21Speaker 6: I didn't know.
- 1:32:21Speaker 8: I mean, coming from San France, is that more like
- 1:32:24Speaker 8: a wide zone kind of guys? I mean they're different.
- 1:32:26Speaker 8: I mean I believe Pittsburgh. Am I confusing him?
- 1:32:30Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 1:32:31Speaker 9: Yeah, No, sum Malo is a good player, but I
- 1:32:34Speaker 9: think he's probably going to make some money.
- 1:32:36Speaker 6: I think those guards are going to cash in.
- 1:32:38Speaker 10: Yeah, we're always looking at I don't know twelve.
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: Speaking of Edwards, that's the next one, Zion Johnson or
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: David Edwards Edwards Edwards.
- 1:32:47Speaker 9: I don't understand this Johnson. Yeah, he's been terrible. I
- 1:32:50Speaker 9: don't I have no idea why he's in this cluster
- 1:32:54Speaker 9: of playing.
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: You remember when like all of the Chargers offensive linemen
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: were hurt and Justin Herbert got killed last, Zion Johnson
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: was in there.
- 1:33:02Speaker 9: He was and he was the starter, like he was
- 1:33:04Speaker 9: the day one starter at that position and was a
- 1:33:06Speaker 9: turnstile no offense.
- 1:33:07Speaker 6: All right, huh not really.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: Danny's in Daytona. What's up, Danny?
- 1:33:15Speaker 5: Hey, what's up? Fellas? How y'all doing today?
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: Hey?
- 1:33:19Speaker 5: So I just wanted to give you two quick takes.
- 1:33:22Speaker 20: Hey.
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: I don't know if you guys heard of Paul or
- 1:33:24Speaker 5: Evan or Fred or Mike, if you guys heard about
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: the I saw the report a couple of days ago
- 1:33:30Speaker 5: about Vederian Lowe. They were saying how Vderian Lowe has
- 1:33:34Speaker 5: kind of grown a market. You remember we all were
- 1:33:37Speaker 5: talking about how crazy, how how terrible he was in
- 1:33:40Speaker 5: twenty four and then he you know, gets a new
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: coaching staff and Josh comes in and this guy looks
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: pretty good of Will's absence, and now people are There
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: was an article I was reading from Neston and I'm like, dang,
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: this guy, I mean, he did play well, and I'm like, man,
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: the Patriots probably should bring him back. But then there
- 1:33:56Speaker 5: was some reports the National Forts saying, you know how
- 1:33:59Speaker 5: these uh, Evan brought up that guy from green Bay
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: and that guy was terrible as as in the lineup
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: for green Bay. That's why he's going to be available.
- 1:34:09Speaker 15: He was the PFF.
- 1:34:11Speaker 5: PFF had him greater in the sixties, sixty percent left tackle.
- 1:34:17Speaker 6: Walker is a starter though he's not.
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 1:34:21Speaker 12: But he is.
- 1:34:22Speaker 5: Definitely I would never want Evan in his uh announce
- 1:34:25Speaker 5: me the comparison about maybe possibly at Pate looking that
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: I said I would not want.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: I don't know if Evan said that too, but that
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: was you can blame me on that one. I'm the
- 1:34:33Speaker 3: one that brought up and I would I would absolutely
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: be interested in him.
- 1:34:38Speaker 5: No, I would not. Yeah, I would resign.
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: I don't really care what his PFF g He that.
- 1:34:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I would. I would be calling I would Resigningerian
- 1:34:46Speaker 5: low before I'd be calling that guy into the building.
- 1:34:50Speaker 6: One guy starts in the league and the other guy
- 1:34:52Speaker 6: doesn't like Yeah, but I.
- 1:34:54Speaker 5: Mean Vaderia Lowe. You know he's the building.
- 1:34:57Speaker 6: No, no, no, I'm just saying the players like Vedarian Lowe
- 1:35:04Speaker 6: packers better player.
- 1:35:05Speaker 9: Yeah, he's a better player. I just for the Patriots.
- 1:35:07Speaker 9: Unless you're kicking Morgan.
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: I was looking, well, I was not cooking kicking. I
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: was kicking Campbell inside.
- 1:35:14Speaker 6: But now that's all a point because they're pretty adamant
- 1:35:16Speaker 6: that that's not happening.
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: Yeah, gotcha.
- 1:35:19Speaker 5: Yeah. No, like I said, if we were bringing maybe
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: Walker on the right side, but no, if you were
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: going to just wap them for Campbell, I have no
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: interest in that. Like Burke Tanne was saying, like, that's stupid.
- 1:35:27Speaker 10: Well, we're not doing that, so we can move on.
- 1:35:29Speaker 6: Then I'm moving Will Campbell, so we don't need to
- 1:35:32Speaker 6: discuss it.
- 1:35:33Speaker 5: And then the other topic I wanted to bring up
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: that I keep the meaning to bring up all during
- 1:35:37Speaker 5: the offseason. Carlin Hurten made a really good point. A
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: lot of young teams have failed, you know, the main
- 1:35:44Speaker 5: cause while we see a lot of quarterbacks across the
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: league have failed in the NFL is because they haven't
- 1:35:49Speaker 5: had the three successful kes. And you know what those
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: three p's are good play caller, good protection, and dynamic playmakers.
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: If you don't have those three p's, you see the
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: Patriots are the longest time when we had Mac Jones,
- 1:36:01Speaker 5: we failed them. They didn't give him a good offense line.
- 1:36:04Speaker 5: You guys talked about this during that time. Bill was
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: reluctant on paying top receivers big money. He was stuck
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: in the past, and then he kept trying to bring
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: his boys in people he knew he was reluctant and
- 1:36:17Speaker 5: bringing good people into call plays besides Josh after Josh
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: took off, and you see a lot of teams have
- 1:36:22Speaker 5: that same issue. They keep re kicking the can of
- 1:36:25Speaker 5: these old play callers or play callers who don't adapt
- 1:36:29Speaker 5: to the game and then they don't get They may
- 1:36:32Speaker 5: have one or two good playmakers, but I think if
- 1:36:34Speaker 5: you look at the great teams like the LA Rams,
- 1:36:37Speaker 5: the Eagles, you feel the list goes on. The Kyle
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: Sanahans of the world. They have these dynamics. It's the scheme.
- 1:36:44Speaker 5: They don't they don't.
- 1:36:46Speaker 9: Was one of the worst coordinated offenses in football, and
- 1:36:49Speaker 9: the guy got fired.
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: I'm saying. I'm saying over collectively, when they had Kelly Moore,
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: they were good. He saw once Keller Moore left, Keller
- 1:36:56Speaker 5: Moore is the scheme guy, and calling hurt made that analogy.
- 1:36:59Speaker 5: When you have Kyle Shanahan isn't just a good head coach,
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: He's a scheme guy. Anybody you can plug just I mean,
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: you can take a jag and put him in the system.
- 1:37:07Speaker 5: He can make it work because he knows how to
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: scheme people in and make it work. The only team
- 1:37:12Speaker 5: he had really good struggle with major struggles. And he
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: even came on the NBC broadcast he said was the Seahawks.
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: He just couldn't crack McDonald's defense.
- 1:37:21Speaker 11: He could, he said.
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: He admittedly on the broadcast a lot of people thought, oh,
- 1:37:25Speaker 5: Kyle Shannan should go into badcast and if he good
- 1:37:27Speaker 5: stout coaching. He was like, man, I just couldn't crack
- 1:37:30Speaker 5: the Seahawks defense. But he's his scheme is just and
- 1:37:34Speaker 5: calor herd. Instead of sending he says the Shanahan's of
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: the world and mcveigh's they have really good scheme and
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: you can take really good average Jack Blairs and plug
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: him in, or you can have elite players like Devontae
- 1:37:45Speaker 5: Adams who they have and Puka Nukuga who's you know,
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: are freaking all pros and you know, Pro Bowlers and
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: stuff like that, and they make him look even better. So,
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: I mean, Patriots need to get back. We have we're
- 1:37:57Speaker 5: putting together the play call, and I think Josh, I
- 1:37:59Speaker 5: think they need to bring in a senior offensive guy
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: into kind of help him because he a.
- 1:38:04Speaker 8: Senior offensive guy for a guy who's been an offensive
- 1:38:06Speaker 8: coordinator for twenty five years in the league.
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: No, I think because he does because he kind of
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: gets stuck in his ways. And the reason I say this,
- 1:38:14Speaker 5: it's it's not maybe he.
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: Is a junior guy.
- 1:38:17Speaker 8: How much of it, though, Danny, do you think is
- 1:38:18Speaker 8: that Drake May was in his first year of the
- 1:38:20Speaker 8: system and that Josh couldn't unleash everything that he knows
- 1:38:25Speaker 8: onto that player.
- 1:38:25Speaker 6: It's just unbelievable.
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: Mike, you're right, but I leave you with this. I
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: leave no, I leave you with this. You need a
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: reason you bring another voice, And I thought I wanted
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: him to bring in Greg Rohman was a terrible offense corner,
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: but damn that guy can freaking like Colin hurts it.
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: He can call. He knows run constips. And the one
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: reason that got him ran out of Baltimore's he didn't
- 1:38:45Speaker 5: know how to scheme a pass. He couldn't scheme passing plays.
- 1:38:48Speaker 5: He knows how to get dominant run game out of
- 1:38:50Speaker 5: quarterbacks and the running backs and moving the sight ends run.
- 1:38:54Speaker 5: I think you bring in a guy that's still there
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: to Greg Roman, that has a real good run game background,
- 1:38:59Speaker 5: and you bring him into the building and say, hey, look,
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: I want you to come up with run game concepts,
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: not that I can't do it. I just want you
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: to focus on calling run game concepts, and on game
- 1:39:08Speaker 5: day we'll mix that in and we'll mix my play
- 1:39:11Speaker 5: calling with the passing game, because obviously the run game
- 1:39:13Speaker 5: was the Patriots plague all year. I mean, you look
- 1:39:16Speaker 5: at Travon Henderson, he looked like what's his name, uh,
- 1:39:20Speaker 5: the guy from the Seahawks Walker. He's a one trick pony,
- 1:39:24Speaker 5: but the only his only best quality was.
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: Was all And I believe I disagree with a no. No,
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: I don't just necessarily I just don't even know so
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: where we have an issue at play caller. And I
- 1:39:40Speaker 3: don't say he didn't have a run opinion. I'm just
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: saying I disagree with I'm seriously disaster. I I thought
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: about what you just said, though, Deuce a little bit.
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: Just like by the end of the season, you know,
- 1:39:54Speaker 3: you're watching the Patriots offense, and you're watching it and
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: like there's just a lot of repeat plays, right, Like
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: they're just kind of in the same buttons over and
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: over again. And you know, great play callers, especially guys
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: that have two weeks to prepare for something like the
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: Super Bowl, they're going to sort of fit pick up
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: on these tendencies and figure out what your core concepts
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: are and all that kind of stuff. And it did
- 1:40:14Speaker 3: not maybe because you know, of what you were talking
- 1:40:16Speaker 3: to me about, Like how much was it that they
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: just had a bunch of young guys out there then
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: they just couldn't open up the playbooks, so to speak,
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: in the way that maybe they can move in.
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: No.
- 1:40:26Speaker 10: No, I mean I haven't really talking about the quarterbacks.
- 1:40:29Speaker 8: Yeah, because we talk about going into this season, was
- 1:40:32Speaker 8: that now it's all going to be on Drake. Drake's
- 1:40:34Speaker 8: gonna have to make the calls of the line. Drake's
- 1:40:36Speaker 8: gonna have to call the protections out. Do you think
- 1:40:38Speaker 8: that Mike McDonald's screwed with that a little bit and
- 1:40:40Speaker 8: was able to get him on some things and get
- 1:40:42Speaker 8: him in his own head a little bit.
- 1:40:44Speaker 10: Yes, Yeah.
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: I thought the offense had a tremendous season, from the
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: play caller to the performance of the players on the field.
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: I thought they maximized what they had, Like the whole
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: thing started with Quarterbacks get failed when they don't have
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: basically everything at an elite level, right right, Well, I
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: don't really need a quarterback then, Like if I have
- 1:41:07Speaker 3: like great players at every level and I have great
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: play callers, like I need the quarterback to be able
- 1:41:14Speaker 3: to do a little bit more than that for the
- 1:41:15Speaker 3: most part, because there's no real perfect situations.
- 1:41:19Speaker 9: In the run game stuff like last season is the
- 1:41:21Speaker 9: outlier for Josh McDaniels. McDaniels has always had a really
- 1:41:24Speaker 9: good running game statistically, and so has Rabel. I mean,
- 1:41:26Speaker 9: obviously Derek Henry.
- 1:41:28Speaker 3: That's the last thing I want, by the way, But
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: I think last year was you know, even in Vegas
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: when with Josh Jacobs led the league in rushing in
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: McDaniels is only full year in Vega.
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: From a mental standpoint, was last year a wasted year
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: for Drake May.
- 1:41:43Speaker 10: A wasted year?
- 1:41:45Speaker 6: No, just the opposit.
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: I don't mean when I say last year, I mean
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: his first year, his rookie year.
- 1:41:50Speaker 8: No, No, No, But I think he's it's a lot
- 1:41:53Speaker 8: more about twenty twenty five now and going forward to
- 1:41:56Speaker 8: being in this offense using that as well.
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: Like, I think he worked on a lot of you know,
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: fundamental things I see learned about. Was there anything that
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: he could have taken mentally from four and applied it
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: to five? Or was he starting over?
- 1:42:12Speaker 3: Sure?
- 1:42:12Speaker 8: No, I mean I know what you're saying, different scheme,
- 1:42:15Speaker 8: but just being in an NFL game and understanding the
- 1:42:18Speaker 8: flow of the game and.
- 1:42:19Speaker 4: You know what's going to be required of you and
- 1:42:20Speaker 4: how hard it is to win.
- 1:42:21Speaker 8: But I get what you're saying Fred about, like, you know,
- 1:42:23Speaker 8: did he schematically learn things playbook wise?
- 1:42:26Speaker 4: I mean probably a little bit. I mean you're still
- 1:42:27Speaker 4: throwing similar concepts.
- 1:42:29Speaker 6: We'll just take it a step further.
- 1:42:30Speaker 3: Let's just say, for argument's sake, hypothetical happens and Josh
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: McDaniels needs to resign tomorrow and they need to bring
- 1:42:37Speaker 3: in some guy who not not Ashton Grant or.
- 1:42:41Speaker 6: Todd Downing or Thomas Brown. Thomas Brown.
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: That you have to go outside and someone comes in
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: and has a completely different offense? Was last year a
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: waste for Drake may Well?
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: But what if it taught him how to read defenses?
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:42:53Speaker 6: You don't think you got taught how to read defenses
- 1:42:54Speaker 6: the year before.
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:42:56Speaker 6: Is this another one of those things that guy's not
- 1:42:58Speaker 6: here anymore? So now he was?
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: I tell you, I thought last year, like the whole
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: calling at the line was not last year. I keep
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: saying last year four. It wasn't his responsibility to make it.
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: It was different his responsibility. But the guy who comes
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: in next year, like in this hypothetical might not ask
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: him to.
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: Do that either.
- 1:43:16Speaker 2: I know, but I'm just saying, but he learned about it,
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: did he? How do you not learn in oh four
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: making calls at the line is no.
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: No, no, no, You learn how to play the game.
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: I don't care what you do playa facing defense.
- 1:43:34Speaker 10: Yeah yeah, I think in twenty twenty four there was a.
- 1:43:38Speaker 9: Lot less on him mentally, both at the line of scrimmage,
- 1:43:42Speaker 9: and also post snap because they had a lot more
- 1:43:43Speaker 9: preer progression reads in that offense and not as much
- 1:43:46Speaker 9: coverage reads. So I think in a lot of ways,
- 1:43:49Speaker 9: Josh mcdaniels's offense was a step up from maybe like
- 1:43:53Speaker 9: graduate level to like PhD, you know, or doctorate level
- 1:43:57Speaker 9: of offense. But I don't think that that necessarily means
- 1:44:00Speaker 9: that you didn't learn anything in twenty four. It's just
- 1:44:03Speaker 9: a different level of different style of offense.
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: I would hope anyway, if he didn't, if he didn't
- 1:44:08Speaker 3: gain experience and learn something from it, that's a bad sign.
- 1:44:11Speaker 10: Now, I think he definitely did.
- 1:44:13Speaker 2: Adam and Louisiana says Evan is wrong. Oh, Harrold Perkins
- 1:44:17Speaker 2: is not a good coverage player. I graduated from LSU
- 1:44:20Speaker 2: and watch every LSU football game. He moved from an
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: on the line player as a freshman to an off
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: ball linebacker because he's too small for edge. He has
- 1:44:28Speaker 2: looked completely out of place at linebacker. He's no instincts
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: for coverage and isn't great against the run. His best
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: position as being a QB spy.
- 1:44:36Speaker 6: Interesting, Okay, that's it.
- 1:44:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you're gonna you're gonna.
- 1:44:43Speaker 10: Like if he has an opinion. He has an opinion.
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: Okay, along every game along those lines, I had a
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: lot of people watch every game. I don't know if
- 1:44:52Speaker 3: I don't know if you caught this, but late last
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: week there was a little Twitter thing where some guy
- 1:45:00Speaker 3: was in an argument on Twitter.
- 1:45:02Speaker 6: What saying that happens?
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: This has been Christian Watson's whole m o. He does this,
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: this and this, and he's always hurt and he was
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: a one trick pony in college. I've watched every game
- 1:45:14Speaker 3: that he's played. And he was arguing with Christian Watson's
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: father on Twitter. He goes, well, actually, I'm Christian Watson's
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: dad and I've seen every game he's played at every level,
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: and you don't know what you're saying.
- 1:45:34Speaker 4: I hope he didn't back down. He's like, yeah, all
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: due respect.
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: I still think, Paul, is that what you call being ratio?
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: If you say so, I don't know that term.
- 1:45:43Speaker 2: They don't use that anymore on Twitter.
- 1:45:45Speaker 3: Ratio ratio. I've never heard that yet. That doesn't mean it's.
- 1:45:51Speaker 9: Being ratio means that there's more replies to your tweet
- 1:45:54Speaker 9: than there are likes on your tweet. So like when
- 1:45:56Speaker 9: you have a really bad take and you get ratio.
- 1:46:00Speaker 9: That means that your applies or outnumber the people that
- 1:46:03Speaker 9: agree with you, because a like is usually seen as
- 1:46:05Speaker 9: like an endorsement, like that good take.
- 1:46:08Speaker 4: Yeah, that's been about it.
- 1:46:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I'll bet you falls into that category.
- 1:46:12Speaker 2: I don't even know why he posts anything.
- 1:46:14Speaker 10: I mean, immediately a pious.
- 1:46:18Speaker 4: I feel like Benvolan's purposely Yeah, I think you are
- 1:46:21Speaker 4: just he's.
- 1:46:24Speaker 10: Yeah, just like Paul Shows, just poking.
- 1:46:27Speaker 3: You guys make fun of me because I'm always being
- 1:46:29Speaker 3: critical and now you guys are beating up on poor Ben.
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: Let's see Adam in California. What's up Adam?
- 1:46:39Speaker 11: Hey, how's it going? Guys?
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: Okay everything.
- 1:46:41Speaker 11: I watched the show every every week. I just wanted
- 1:46:43Speaker 11: to give my quick take when it comes to a.
- 1:46:47Speaker 6: I'll give me one second, all right, We'll take your time.
- 1:46:50Speaker 2: Yeah, we we have all day.
- 1:46:51Speaker 6: Get back to us.
- 1:46:52Speaker 11: When Yeah, a lot of people are talking about Alec Pears.
- 1:46:57Speaker 18: He's a great player, but.
- 1:46:58Speaker 11: Honestly, I just don't see him in that level. And
- 1:47:02Speaker 11: if aj Brown would be out, like why not, if
- 1:47:05Speaker 11: you're going to shoot for the stars, why not give
- 1:47:07Speaker 11: Minnesota a call? I know it sounds crazy.
- 1:47:10Speaker 22: But when you look at Minnesota's position, they're literally like.
- 1:47:13Speaker 11: Fifty million over the cast base.
- 1:47:15Speaker 22: They have no quarterback Justin Jefferson. It's been like two
- 1:47:18Speaker 22: years already that he's been like frustrated. So and you
- 1:47:21Speaker 22: see Minnesota selling pieces, So why not give him a
- 1:47:24Speaker 22: call and see hypothetically a what would it take to
- 1:47:27Speaker 22: get Justin Jefferson that you guys?
- 1:47:29Speaker 9: Okay, I think that those types of calls happen every year.
- 1:47:32Speaker 9: It's worth a call, and they say it's either a
- 1:47:35Speaker 9: straight click he does they are nothing or are you here? Well,
- 1:47:38Speaker 9: if you're willing to trade us four first round picks
- 1:47:40Speaker 9: or whatever the maximum is, then.
- 1:47:42Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, well, no one wants to give a first
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: round pick?
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: And what is it?
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: What is Philadelphia looking for? Supposed to be a one
- 1:47:50Speaker 3: into three in a player? Yeah, I heard one player,
- 1:47:54Speaker 3: one in two in a player? No one wants to
- 1:47:55Speaker 3: give that for a J Brown? What do you think
- 1:47:57Speaker 3: Minnesota would accept?
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: Get to deal a one.
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: One one probably and a player You're probably right?
- 1:48:03Speaker 6: Three ones?
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, sounds right.
- 1:48:06Speaker 8: But I do it just to uh yeah, avoid having
- 1:48:09Speaker 8: to talk about it anymore.
- 1:48:10Speaker 6: It's worth a call.
- 1:48:11Speaker 4: We got a number one?
- 1:48:12Speaker 2: Yeah, no in Toronto. I don't get why Paul and
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: Evan have such a hard time understanding why fans felt
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: like digs twenty million cap hit was too high. It's
- 1:48:21Speaker 2: about opportunity cost.
- 1:48:23Speaker 6: Cop hit was twenty six.
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: When someone says that Saint Kim's twenty million is too large,
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: they're implicitly saying that they like to spend those resources elsewhere.
- 1:48:31Speaker 2: Of course, cap numbers can be manipulated to a large extent,
- 1:48:34Speaker 2: but at the end of the day, Craft cannot put
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: infinite resources into the roster. Would you rather have Digs
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: to say Jalen Phillips, Paul, don't say both. At some
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: point there's a limit on the amount of resources the
- 1:48:46Speaker 2: team is willing to spend on the roster. If you
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: want Digs and Phillips, then there has to be a
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: cut made somewhere else. I have repeated that.
- 1:48:53Speaker 9: I have repeated that point for three weeks, so I
- 1:48:55Speaker 9: don't really like so Yes, that's the other side of
- 1:48:58Speaker 9: the argument is opportunity costs.
- 1:49:00Speaker 10: Absolutely.
- 1:49:00Speaker 3: I'll take Jalen Phillips, but I need to know what
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: you're doing a wide receiver who's Digs's replacement. See the
- 1:49:08Speaker 3: thing that I push back on is. Everybody says, I
- 1:49:11Speaker 3: don't want to pay Stefan Digs twenty million dollars this year. Okay,
- 1:49:17Speaker 3: well you have to pay somebody something to replace Steffan Diggs.
- 1:49:20Speaker 3: What is that going to be? That's what my comparison is.
- 1:49:23Speaker 3: My comparison isn't what the best edge rusher available on
- 1:49:26Speaker 3: the market. My comparison is, I'm going to now have
- 1:49:31Speaker 3: Darnell Mooney playing my volume wide receiver instead OF's fond
- 1:49:36Speaker 3: Steffan Diggs. And it's going to cost me thirteen million
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: for Mooney, it would have cost me twenty. I'll take
- 1:49:41Speaker 3: Digs to me.
- 1:49:41Speaker 2: Sports would be a lot more enjoyable to follow if
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: we weren't talking about money all the time.
- 1:49:47Speaker 3: If you just do it the way evident I do
- 1:49:50Speaker 3: it and ignore that part of it because it's not ours, right,
- 1:49:54Speaker 3: then you can just sort of abilit way what makes
- 1:49:56Speaker 3: you better.
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: There's a way to make it happen. I mean, it's
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: just it's you know, but I guess everybody enjoyed to.
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: Treat contracts like hippo.
- 1:50:03Speaker 6: Tom Brady.
- 1:50:04Speaker 3: This is all This is all Tom Brady's fault because
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: Tom Brady won at an exceptionally high level for an
- 1:50:12Speaker 3: exceptionally long period of time, and it didn't matter who
- 1:50:14Speaker 3: the pieces were, so you could fit them in with
- 1:50:17Speaker 3: the cheapest ones that you could get. The problem is
- 1:50:20Speaker 3: not everybody's Tom Brady, and it doesn't work like that
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: for most teams.
- 1:50:24Speaker 9: I do think that this in a way the organization
- 1:50:27Speaker 9: has learned that in the last five ors.
- 1:50:29Speaker 2: I don't think there's any doubt they changed.
- 1:50:31Speaker 9: Because I think that the way that they've been willing
- 1:50:36Speaker 9: to go to the top of the market at wide
- 1:50:38Speaker 9: receiver really since Elliot Wolf started making decisions around here.
- 1:50:42Speaker 10: Now, they haven't always landed.
- 1:50:43Speaker 6: They haven't landed, but they're trying.
- 1:50:45Speaker 9: But they've been trying all every single offseason since Elliott
- 1:50:48Speaker 9: Wolf took more power.
- 1:50:49Speaker 3: Last year one hundred and seventy five million in guaranteed money,
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: they said, in free agency.
- 1:50:53Speaker 6: That's a lot of money.
- 1:50:54Speaker 8: That's that's what's exciting to me about this little pocket
- 1:50:57Speaker 8: and time of Like you said that, that's what I've
- 1:50:59Speaker 8: been thinking about. They've been in on all these guys,
- 1:51:01Speaker 8: I mean Calvin Ridley's and the Brendan and I I mean,
- 1:51:03Speaker 8: they take swings at all these guys. I'm sure they're
- 1:51:05Speaker 8: taking a swing on every single one of these guys,
- 1:51:08Speaker 8: Jacket and Abba. For the love of God, does anyone
- 1:51:11Speaker 8: remember how the Seahawks trash the Patriots offensive line in
- 1:51:14Speaker 8: the Super Bowl. This talk that wide receivers should be
- 1:51:17Speaker 8: the patriots number one offseason.
- 1:51:18Speaker 2: Priority is madness.
- 1:51:19Speaker 10: Why not both?
- 1:51:20Speaker 2: The number one offseason priority is offensive line and the
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: Patriots need at least two new players to fix it.
- 1:51:27Speaker 6: So here, I don't think you're wrong.
- 1:51:29Speaker 3: I think the offensive line struggled, Okay, might they not
- 1:51:34Speaker 3: have struggled as much if the wide receivers were better?
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: Right, It's all, It's all one thing.
- 1:51:40Speaker 6: You know, did Drake hold the ball a little bit?
- 1:51:42Speaker 6: What did you look sure of himself?
- 1:51:43Speaker 4: Might they look better if Drake knew it was coming?
- 1:51:45Speaker 3: And maybe if Drake played better, the offensive line would
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: have looked better. Maybe if the receivers uncovered quicker, Drake
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: would have played better in the offensive line would have
- 1:51:53Speaker 3: looked better.
- 1:51:53Speaker 10: I just I don't know why. It's not both, it's
- 1:51:55Speaker 10: it's everything.
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: But if you have to pick on top, you know.
- 1:51:59Speaker 10: But why do I have to pick a top?
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: Because he asked you?
- 1:52:01Speaker 6: Okay?
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: But if I had to pick a top wide receiver, right,
- 1:52:04Speaker 3: exactly like every offensive line says.
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: You can't have one.
- 1:52:09Speaker 3: Because every single time I asked Mike Rabel, Elliott Wolf,
- 1:52:13Speaker 3: what what are your needs this offseason?
- 1:52:15Speaker 10: Depth across the roster.
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: It's never that.
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: No, No, they they did they afterwards they'd said playmaker's
- 1:52:23Speaker 3: offensive line edge. But they're just saying, like, don't lose
- 1:52:27Speaker 3: sight of the fact that we need to improve the
- 1:52:29Speaker 3: whole thing. So like when people say, you know, why
- 1:52:32Speaker 3: are we prioritizing offensive line over wide receiver, they're not.
- 1:52:34Speaker 3: They're they're trying to get better at both areas and
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: that's possible.
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: But he didn say what they're doing. He just wants
- 1:52:41Speaker 2: to know what should be the priority.
- 1:52:43Speaker 3: My pick is wide receiver. Yeah, if I can only
- 1:52:46Speaker 3: say one thing, that would be my choice. I spent
- 1:52:49Speaker 3: the whole year and everybody telling me how much better
- 1:52:51Speaker 3: the offensive line was, and then they had a horrific
- 1:52:55Speaker 3: Super Bowl, and I'm going to overreact to that. Now,
- 1:52:57Speaker 3: according to you, not me, the offensive line is mid. Sure,
- 1:53:01Speaker 3: but it was I was told it was a lot
- 1:53:04Speaker 3: better than where I was told all year that it
- 1:53:06Speaker 3: wasn't an issue, wasn't mid in at So now all
- 1:53:08Speaker 3: of a sudden, all these people like we have to
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: get at least two new offensive linemen. Right, He's not.
- 1:53:14Speaker 3: He's not an outliar that the emailer but a lot
- 1:53:16Speaker 3: of people believe.
- 1:53:17Speaker 8: But in our defense, the only positions we're really talking
- 1:53:19Speaker 8: about this offseason our edge wide receiver and offense.
- 1:53:22Speaker 2: Unless Moses retires. I think you need one new You.
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: Need a left guard and need the left guard Evans thing.
- 1:53:27Speaker 4: I'm a rubber stamped at one hundred percent. I would
- 1:53:29Speaker 4: love it.
- 1:53:29Speaker 8: I would just love, you know, the David ed Edwards signing. Great,
- 1:53:32Speaker 8: you know, plug him in. Let will just compete inside.
- 1:53:36Speaker 8: You know why why don't you see it?
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: Could?
- 1:53:38Speaker 6: I think it would be too much, too much money.
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: And I think that they it's the guard market. We're
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: not asking you to pay him thirty million dollars a year.
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: Go give David Edwards nineteen.
- 1:53:48Speaker 2: I would do you even have to do you even
- 1:53:50Speaker 2: have to go to the top of the list. Now,
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: can you get a solid guard if you want to
- 1:53:54Speaker 2: get down the list?
- 1:53:55Speaker 3: I think I don't want to like to just have
- 1:53:57Speaker 3: a guy who's as good as the guy I have.
- 1:53:59Speaker 9: I think that any one of the guys besides maybe
- 1:54:02Speaker 9: Zion Johnson, no disrespect is better than.
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: Is better because I clows my mind.
- 1:54:09Speaker 9: It really bothers me. And we're running at time, but
- 1:54:10Speaker 9: it really bothers me. When we're sitting on my couch
- 1:54:13Speaker 9: on Sunday watching the combine and I in Rapaport's face
- 1:54:16Speaker 9: comes up on the screen and he sells me that
- 1:54:19Speaker 9: Zion Johnson's gonna make twenty million dollars a year on
- 1:54:22Speaker 9: the open market.
- 1:54:23Speaker 6: I think these guards are going to make a lot
- 1:54:24Speaker 6: of money.
- 1:54:25Speaker 3: Okay, But I'm looking at it and I'm like, first
- 1:54:27Speaker 3: of all, if you're watching this right now, you're like
- 1:54:31Speaker 3: the nerd of the nerd of football world. It's offensive
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: line workouts on a Sunday in March.
- 1:54:38Speaker 6: I probably did not watch any of this, fair enough, okay.
- 1:54:40Speaker 3: So, like he comes on the screen and he's like,
- 1:54:43Speaker 3: not a lot of people have probably heard of David
- 1:54:45Speaker 3: Edwards and Zion Johnson, and I'm like.
- 1:54:46Speaker 6: So, I'm sorry, they're ridiculous.
- 1:54:48Speaker 3: Everybody watching has heard of those two players. And then
- 1:54:51Speaker 3: he tries to sell me that they're gonna pay Zion
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: Johnson twenty million dollars a year.
- 1:54:55Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know what the numbers are going to be.
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 1:54:58Speaker 6: I'm sorry.
- 1:54:59Speaker 3: There's going to be a market for those those guys.
- 1:55:01Speaker 3: You know the bills have the center to McGovern. Yes,
- 1:55:04Speaker 3: I think there's going to be a market. First being
- 1:55:07Speaker 3: over twenty million.
- 1:55:09Speaker 10: Yeah, so well Underbaum is a great player.
- 1:55:10Speaker 3: Right, but I think these interior offensive linemen are going
- 1:55:13Speaker 3: to make some money.
- 1:55:14Speaker 2: All right, We're going to wrap up the show with
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: Sam and Connecticut.
- 1:55:16Speaker 10: What's up, Samm?
- 1:55:20Speaker 18: I do things?
- 1:55:22Speaker 3: Uh?
- 1:55:22Speaker 21: First, I had a minor correction. Uh still, getting ratio
- 1:55:27Speaker 21: isn't like more replies than like life. It's when someone replies.
- 1:55:32Speaker 9: And they just get a lot more like than the original,
- 1:55:34Speaker 9: like tweet disagree.
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: Oh, I have no idea.
- 1:55:40Speaker 21: Yeah, that's just like the general consensus I think for it.
- 1:55:43Speaker 21: But anyway, the question I had, I don't think so
- 1:55:49Speaker 21: Casey Concepcion from sex A and M. I was just wondering,
- 1:55:53Speaker 21: what role does he kind of play as a receiver
- 1:55:55Speaker 21: like an x y Z and who do you think
- 1:55:58Speaker 21: he would replace? Taking like big spot Z. Yeah, and
- 1:56:03Speaker 21: that's all I have.
- 1:56:03Speaker 4: Now you'd be a digs in training, Yeah, dig z
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: spot moving around. You know somebody.
- 1:56:10Speaker 9: Getting ratio social media slang for a post usually on
- 1:56:15Speaker 9: X that receives significantly more replies and comments than likes
- 1:56:18Speaker 9: or shares, signaling widespread disapproval or backlash.
- 1:56:23Speaker 2: Backlash, whoa you dropped the phone?
- 1:56:26Speaker 4: Drop the phone?
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: The phone? I think we have a topic Alex for
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: the newsletter ratio ratio, and then maybe you could do some.
- 1:56:32Speaker 10: Other I just told you what it means.
- 1:56:34Speaker 4: Can I actually before we wrap up?
- 1:56:36Speaker 2: According to who is there?
- 1:56:37Speaker 6: Me ai?
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: Everybody?
- 1:56:39Speaker 8: Hey, I uh, any chance we have to hop in
- 1:56:43Speaker 8: here at all on Monday when free agency stuff's going on?
- 1:56:47Speaker 4: Emergency emergency I.
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: Don't know, is there? So would you consider a J Brown? Like, yes, yeah,
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: that news I think that would be a face so
- 1:56:55Speaker 2: there might be AJ Brown.
- 1:56:58Speaker 6: Acquiring a J Brown to me would be emergency pod worthy.
- 1:57:01Speaker 3: Okay that's just my view, but I'm always looking from
- 1:57:08Speaker 3: the hodays.
- 1:57:09Speaker 2: We're going to wrap it up for that, don't hope
- 1:57:11Speaker 2: everybody has a good weekend. Thanks for watching. We will
- 1:57:15Speaker 2: see you next Tuesday.
