Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Wicked shattered box office records last year, becoming a worldwide phenomenon.
- 0:05Speaker 1: In the first film, we met Marissa Bodi as Nessa Rose,
- 0:09Speaker 1: Alpha's devoted younger sister. Now you might remember this iconic
- 0:13Speaker 1: scene when all the shiz University students go off campus
- 0:16Speaker 1: for a night out.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Luita zurichad, don't you see suside chance Uiazu Chuddar, don't
- 0:28Speaker 2: be fucked? You know what.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Let's dance.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Wicked for Good.
- 0:36Speaker 4: The highly anticipated sequel continues Glinda and Alphabet's story years
- 0:41Speaker 4: down the line. The two are now navigating the consequences
- 0:44Speaker 4: of their choices, and Nessa as well. They've all gone
- 0:47Speaker 4: through some major life changes. Actor Marissa Body joins us. Now, Marissa,
- 0:52Speaker 4: so happy to have you here on daily with us.
- 0:53Speaker 4: So let's start right there. Things are really different for
- 0:56Speaker 4: your character. She's not that bright eyed young girl anymore.
- 0:59Speaker 4: Where do things pick up?
- 0:59Speaker 2: In the second movie, they pick up of her taking
- 1:03Speaker 2: on now that her father's no longer there, taking on
- 1:06Speaker 2: this role that I don't think she necessarily feels ready
- 1:09Speaker 2: or prepared for, or that she necessarily fully wants to
- 1:12Speaker 2: be in this. Soon we see obviously she goes to school,
- 1:15Speaker 2: she goes to She's university to study and to find
- 1:18Speaker 2: her own person and to now feel so stuck. That's
- 1:21Speaker 2: where we find her in the second at the beginning
- 1:23Speaker 2: of the second film.
- 1:24Speaker 1: And you deliver about transformation so beautifully. I actually want
- 1:26Speaker 1: to pay a clip from Wicked for good and let's
- 1:28Speaker 1: talk on the other.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Side, perhaps a friendly game of cards once I'm done working.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Whatever you say, Madam Governor, I asked you to call
- 1:39Speaker 3: me Nessa, remember bock never mind, I'll call you when
- 1:50Speaker 3: I finished.
- 2:15Speaker 1: So things get complicated. I mean, you read the needle
- 2:18Speaker 1: very well. But what's so interesting to me is that
- 2:20Speaker 1: you were actually filming these at the same time, and
- 2:23Speaker 1: one you're a little bit darker and the other one
- 2:25Speaker 1: you're very jovial. How did you, as an actor do both?
- 2:30Speaker 2: I think just not letting go completely of first film
- 2:34Speaker 2: Nessa and finding her in little pockets and remembering there's
- 2:38Speaker 2: still a part of that young girl in there somewhere,
- 2:42Speaker 2: and I think honoring that. And also I did journal
- 2:45Speaker 2: a lot as Nasa to try to get in that headspace,
- 2:49Speaker 2: and also, yeah, to try to fill in the blanks
- 2:51Speaker 2: that weren't necessarily in the script, and also to develop
- 2:55Speaker 2: and figure out between the time jump of the first
- 2:57Speaker 2: film and the second film how she ends up to
- 3:00Speaker 2: be where she is and where she switches up a little.
- 3:03Speaker 1: That's so cool how you can hold space for both.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Okay, that's behind the scenes. The cast obviously incredible the
- 3:09Speaker 4: chemistry on screen, but also you were talking about off
- 3:11Speaker 4: screen how close everyone is. What was it like working
- 3:14Speaker 4: with you know, Ariana, Cynthia Michelle And for you, do
- 3:18Speaker 4: you have a favorite memory or day on set?
- 3:21Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I mean, everyone is just so incredibly talented,
- 3:25Speaker 2: and I feel so lucky to be a part of
- 3:27Speaker 2: a cast who's just so tremendous at what they do
- 3:31Speaker 2: on screen and also just very kind behind the scenes
- 3:34Speaker 2: as well. My first day in oz so to speak,
- 3:40Speaker 2: or in my green room was a bouquet of flowers
- 3:44Speaker 2: from Ariana, which was just very sweet and just very
- 3:47Speaker 2: welcoming and kind to set that precedent of what's the
- 3:50Speaker 2: common in the setting for what the work that I
- 3:53Speaker 2: was about to do and put into both films.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I love the sisterhood between all the cast members. I
- 3:59Speaker 1: think it's beautif. And what's interesting is that you have
- 4:01Speaker 1: this incredible like theater training in theater history, and this
- 4:05Speaker 1: was your first feature film, So what like peel back
- 4:07Speaker 1: a curtain? What was the audition process?
- 4:09Speaker 4: Like?
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah, so I all of it was over zoom because
- 4:13Speaker 2: at that point in time, everyone was already over in
- 4:16Speaker 2: London and all virtual. I sent in a self tape
- 4:21Speaker 2: that same day, I got a call back from my
- 4:24Speaker 2: agent and auditioned over the span of a few weeks.
- 4:28Speaker 2: For me, it felt like forever because I just wanted
- 4:32Speaker 2: it so bad. I honestly don't know if I've wanted
- 4:36Speaker 2: anything more. I didn't hear anything back from casting, and
- 4:41Speaker 2: I truly thought that it was it for me, and
- 4:45Speaker 2: I wanted to create and turn my sadness into art,
- 4:50Speaker 2: and so I made a little spooky, little short film.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I posted it to my Instagram. It's a visual to
- 4:57Speaker 2: the song which is by Alice Phoebelou not even thinking
- 5:01Speaker 2: about Wicked and like the connection between the two. And
- 5:03Speaker 2: at the end of it, I cast a spell in it,
- 5:05Speaker 2: and it's a spell that says good news will soon
- 5:07Speaker 2: come knocking. And at the end you hear a knock
- 5:11Speaker 2: at the door and the video cuts to black, and
- 5:13Speaker 2: I post it to my Instagram and a few days
- 5:15Speaker 2: later I hear back from casting, and in the call,
- 5:20Speaker 2: John's talking to me about the John the director, John
- 5:24Speaker 2: chu the John Chu Yes is talking about the characters.
- 5:28Speaker 2: And then he stopped and he's like, I saw that
- 5:30Speaker 2: video that you posted on social media, and nobody knows
- 5:33Speaker 2: that you're going up for this role, so you just
- 5:35Speaker 2: have to be careful. And I was like, why, whatever,
- 5:37Speaker 2: right I have to skirt up all of this. I
- 5:41Speaker 2: messed up big time. I was so anxious about it.
- 5:44Speaker 2: And he's like, no, what, I gotta go get the door.
- 5:46Speaker 2: There's knock at the door. And I was like, oh
- 5:47Speaker 2: my god, of course, go get the door. And he's
- 5:50Speaker 2: taking his camera with him, which confused me. And he
- 5:54Speaker 2: flips his camera and he shows and it's Ariana and
- 5:56Speaker 2: Cynthia and they have a sign that says welcome to
- 6:00Speaker 2: UVR NASA Road.
- 6:01Speaker 4: How your knock at the door was the.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Knock at the door And it was just so sweet
- 6:05Speaker 2: that he included that and just very thoughtful.
- 6:08Speaker 4: Mercabodi, thank you so much for joining us. I also
