- 0:48Here is bonus material. Because first of all, each one
- 0:53is, I mean, there's some similarities.
- 0:54I can get it. Of course, when you throw that
- 0:56javelin in there that's it's more horizontal than a circular
- 1:01thing. But then you're also typically
- 1:03stereotypically, oh, you're going to do our weight room for
- 1:05us and you're going to do weight room for the sprinters and the
- 1:07jumpers and distance runners. You know, you have to be kind of
- 1:11on your game if you're going to be a close coach.
- 1:13What, what was it for you? How do you handle that?
- 1:17Was it the mentors that you've had?
- 1:19How do you handle the game depression?
- 1:21Yeah. So I don't actually do our
- 1:23weight training. We have a head strength
- 1:24conditioning coach, Carly Taylor.
- 1:27She's been on. This podcast, I'm going to set
- 1:29that up for her Carly to drop the name.
- 1:32She's fantastic. I love her to death.
- 1:35She's definitely healthy, like he's definitely been a mentor
- 1:38for me. And Nick Moss, my boss, he's the
- 1:42director track field. You really do have a lot of
- 1:44great people. I.
- 1:45Know like I'm really lucky. Like, really lucky.
- 1:47Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:49So yeah, it's basically just like the mentors that I've had
- 1:53and definitely like the coaches I've had previously, like I've
- 1:57had them at like the perfect times in my life.
- 1:59Oh, interesting. Yeah, like I've had, I went
- 2:02through some stuff my read for my freshman year of college.
- 2:05So my high school coach, love her to that.
- 2:07She's fantastic. I couldn't have had her in
- 2:10college because I would have probably quit track.
- 2:13But the coach that I didn't have in college.
- 2:14Was fantastic. So what my coaching college,
- 2:20college, my coaching track and field.
- 2:22And what I mean by that is, you know, there there's very few
- 2:26people that probably know coaches as people better than I
- 2:28do because of the podcast, you know, to look at the episodes.
- 2:31I mean, and we get deep, like, why are you doing the track and
- 2:33all this kind of stuff? And I'm always like eager
- 2:36impressed, like all these men and women here could, you know,
- 2:39someone here could cure cancer. Someone here could run a non
- 2:42profit that would help homeless people.
- 2:44Someone over here could be, you know, an amazing math or
- 2:46science. I mean, the talent level is
- 2:49amazing. And yet we choose to help people
- 2:52throw up 4K ball farther. Why?
- 2:56As you were thinking about going into college, thinking about
- 2:58majors to pick, think about a career, why coaching track?
- 3:03It was actually kind of funny. Coaching track just kind of fell
- 3:06into my lap, so I was originally going to school for to be a
- 3:10doctor. And then?
- 3:13Yeah. And I never went to school to
- 3:15be. And then my GPA was not good
- 3:18enough, so I was like, OK, maybe.
- 3:20We do have a lot in common, yeah.
- 3:23So maybe not a doctor. And then I was like, I was like
- 3:26debating if I want to be like a high school biology teacher
- 3:29because my degree is in biology or like a physical therapist.
- 3:34And then I so I did like a practical, so basically like
- 3:37shadowed. And I was like, absolutely not.
- 3:39I could not be a teacher. Yeah, seriously.
- 3:43Fantastic people. But I could not do that.
- 3:45Like it was insane. And then I was like, OK,
- 3:47physical therapy sounds fun. Didn't get into physical therapy
- 3:51because my GPA was bad. But then my my assistant coach
- 3:56actually knows Carly so they were like, you should apply.
- 4:00And so here I am. I love that journey.
- 4:04Yeah, that's really cool. I'm a tattoo guy and I can't
- 4:08help but see what what do we got going on there?
- 4:10Yeah, no, it's my cat Prince and me and the they passed away.
- 4:16Oh yeah. So it's like an honorary.
- 4:18I love that. That's really cool.
- 4:20Sorry I'm a hidden tattoo, but everything else is hidden.
- 4:24But I really like what's going on over.
- 4:27There. Yeah, I know that.
- 4:30Yeah. I'm so glad you're here.
- 4:32I know exactly what that. Is luckily it wasn't like me
- 4:35personally and it was just like for my family, OK, But this was
- 4:39like my first one when I was 19. I was like, yes, this is what I
- 4:42wanted it for years. That says a lot about you.
- 4:45So it really does. I love.
- 4:48That and then I have another one for my family.
- 4:50I'm on my ankle. It's their birth flowers.
- 4:52So my mom, my dad and my brother and myself.
- 4:55Sounds like family's pretty important.
- 4:57They definitely are. It's a little complicated now,
- 5:00but. Is it life?
- 5:02Yeah, no. No, no, yeah, yeah.
- 5:03It's definitely just life. My parents got divorced in like
- 5:072021. So it was like recent.
- 5:09Yeah, yeah. So it was like tough like
- 5:12figuring that out as an adult because normally you're like,
- 5:14oh, you're a kid. You're like 9 or 10 when your
- 5:16parents. Get divorced and I hate that
- 5:21happen too. The track coaches do amazingly
- 5:25is turn some of the trauma that they've had to help countless of
- 5:30other young people, right. So you have this ability now to
- 5:33take this hurt, this damage and go help some other 18/19/20 year
- 5:38old kid that has no ability to figure this out because you have
- 5:42to figure figure it out yourself.
- 5:44So I've. Definitely told my athletes
- 5:46that. I'm like, I've literally been
- 5:48through so much weird stuff. You.
- 5:50Like. You could.
- 5:50Not believe it, say that it's OK, it's live.
- 5:52There's no there's no blue button on that.
- 5:54Like I've been through some like, weird stuff.
- 5:56Like it's been weird. Like I've had two surgeries,
- 6:00like my parents got divorced, Like I've been in a car
- 6:02accident, Like I've been through some weird stuff.
- 6:04So let's have a little fun. How about that?
- 6:06Yeah, I've got 100 random questions here.
- 6:09You get to pick the number, I get to ask the question.
- 6:11OK, my favorite number is 23 so I have to go.
- 6:13With that 23, Yeah. Gilligan Thailand was BS.
- 6:18What did you grow up thinking was going to be a bigger problem
- 6:21than it really was? And why is it quicksand?
- 6:23I thought quicksand was everywhere.
- 6:25Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was like, like, oh, everywhere
- 6:27I go, I'm going to have to make sure I lay flat and don't
- 6:29struggle. Yeah, right.
- 6:32Yeah, yeah, yeah, I agree. I agree.
- 6:33Yeah. Sarah, I love you, Dad.
- 6:35Thank you so much for being here today because you're here and
- 6:39only because people that sit the seat after we've got a custom
- 6:42field connections podcast Christmas morning for you it.
- 6:45Just. Doesn't meant to say thank you
- 6:46for us. Thank you for being here.
- 6:49I saw these on Twitter and I was like I need you all.
- 6:52These that's why you're here. That's the only reason just
- 6:53using me for. Christmas I also wanted to meet
- 6:55you. You seem really.
- 6:56Cool Sarah, I hope that you know we're live.
- 6:58So I give you a love. Thank you so much.
- 7:02You you're doing a great job. Thank you.
- 7:03Thank you so much. Appreciate you.
- 7:04Thank you. You know, it's amazing.
- 7:08I I, I always say the people who choose to be a track coach, not
- 7:14coach, right? It's it's the people that are
- 7:17behind it. Sarah's a great example of, you
- 7:20know, at the end of the day, we take off that coach title and we
- 7:23are people. We're Sarah's.
- 7:25We're Greg's. We're Mike's.
- 7:27We're Steve's. That's who we are, first and
- 7:29foremost. And please, don't ever, ever
- 7:32forget that. Don't.
