Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: I am still a thousand.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Hey y'all, welcome to today's episode of the Far L4 Podcast.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Will Ernest, here tonight with my guest, Ethan Wolf and Zane Wall.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: How y'all doing?
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Very good.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Tired.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Of course, yeah, you just got done with a 134-lap league race.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, that too, but that's just a side effect.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Um got a good size episode tonight, so we'll jump right into it.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: But first, if you would like to voice your opinions on what motorsports should be covered on the podcast, how the format should work, episode length and more, check out the Throttle for podcast survey that's down in the description below the video, and below whatever audio platform that you may be on, and it's below um all the other videos and episodes as well.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: So whatever episode you decide to watch or listen to, the survey link is right there down in the description.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: But on to other news.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Aaron Stanfield completes his top field license at the Texas Motorplex Monday for Elite Motorsports.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: They could have a second top field car by either 2027 or 2028 with proper funding, joining, of course, Tony Stewart and of course their uh fleet of pro stock entries.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Um interesting note here NASCAR Hall of Famer friend Loredson, who passed away back in late 2024, is now the first known NASCAR driver to be diagnosed with chronic traumatic.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's a big word.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: End of what it's a big word.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: CTE, as what it's commonly known.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Hey, your guess, your guess is as good as mine to pronounce that word.
- 1:53SPEAKER_04: Fair point um I want to say with the type of style of racing that Lorenzo and that type of driver had back in the day, I firmly believe that that's not the last case of CTE we're gonna see from the Oh yeah, I'm gonna say back in the back in the 60s, the safety, if you will, was basically just what we have in passenger cars now.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Uh which is basically non-existent.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: I mean seat belts, yay.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: But yay.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Seat belts aren't gonna do you any good, really.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: At least, and by seatbelts, I mean like passenger style seatbelts, that it's just the the one harness across.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: It ain't it definitely ain't no um it ain't no Hans device, I'll tell you that.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: But um some other news now.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Florence Motor Speedway in South Carolina will not operate and have any races next year.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: That is just tragic.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: South Carolina has quickly just the asphalt short track scene has just completely gotten crippled as of late.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Of course, Myrtle Beach closed down.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Uh wanna say in 20, was it 2020 or 2021?
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: It was a few years ago, but yeah.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: And then Florence isn't gonna have any races next year, and now there's only a handful of um tracks in general in South Carolina with asphalt racing, and it's like, oof.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Support your local short tracks.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Major downfall.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: That sucks too for a lot of the fans that spent like a lot of their time out at those small little short tracks.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Booming real estate market, that's just all it is.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: They just build a bunch of houses up near the tracks that used to just be uh in the middle of nowhere, and then you'd have the racetrack just sitting there, and then all the houses move up right next to it, and then the people that move in those houses complain about the racetrack, and it's like, well, why'd you move next to a racetrack?
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: So that sounds familiar.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: And I'm glad that um North Carolina was the first to pass a bill like it, and then Iowa and Kansas followed suit.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: But I mean, they passed bills to where homeowners that move next to a racetrack, you can't complain about the racetrack, so yeah.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, um, hopefully Florence doesn't close down, but if they do, it wouldn't be the first track closed down, and it probably won't be the last, sadly.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: But um JGR, Joe Gibbs Racing, seeking$150 million in damages in the JGR spire Gay Hart, Chris Gayhart lawsuit, and the antitrust lawsuit that was settled back in January between 23-11 and front row, they wanted$365 million in damages.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: However, they settled in court, and NASCAR was estimated to have paid only 10 to 50% of that amount, which is still a lot of money.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: But think about it, I mean, that was Teams versus the entire sanctioning body.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: And the sanctioning body, of course, gets way more television revenue, way more ticket sales.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: NASCAR owns like half of the tracks because they bought out ISC a few years ago versus, I mean, this lawsuit, it's just team versus team.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: So it's like, you know, 150 million dollars is a lot of money.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it does.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: It could definitely cause some problems.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: And I mean, it doesn't help that spy's also in some hot water due to their connections with TWG Global, but that's a whole another backstory.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Um Lucas Oil, uh the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series, they were at West Virginia Motor Speedway with the Dirt Track World Championship.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: I think somebody wants to yep about that.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Brandon Shepard took home the championship with that, beating Devin Moran by it was nearly 50 points, finished second.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: He ran like in the fourth range all race, and then Hudson O'Neill, who dominated that race, jumps the cushion and ends up blowing a tire, and that screws the entire race.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: He led like 70-something laps in that race.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: You know, and me as a HUD fan, I was pissed.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: Uh and then Ricky Thornton went on to win that race.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Didn't he sweep?
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Or did he just win Saturday?
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: I think he sweeped.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: Saturday was twin uh twin like twenty-five races.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay, all right.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Thornton won that, and then Hudson won his also.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: And then now I guess the main focus now is just on World of Outlaws and their road to uh world finals.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, world finals coming up in a few weeks, same same week as Homestead with the championship for NASCAR, and then then it just goes right to Gateway with the dome in early December.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: Which I might be going.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Yes, lucky.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: If I had money, I'd go to the snowball derby, but I don't have money.
- 7:00SPEAKER_04: My friend went last year, so Oh, you want to go too?
- 7:04SPEAKER_04: I'm debating it, I don't know.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: You should go with me to Gateway.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: No, you need to fly here and we all go to internationals.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: First of all, my Midwestern blood does not go fly for an eight-hour drive.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Come on now, I'm gonna drive that.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Second of all, um the mention broke.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: Fair enough.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: Fair enough.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: If I have any money scraped together, I'll probably just take the shorter drive to Pensacola.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Plus, I mean, as much as the Gateway International would be cool, uh I'm definitely gonna have my life insurance updated um for the um exhaust fumes.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Although that's more of a chili ball problem, but still.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: I'd be another core race to go to.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I want to go to the chili ball so bad.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Me too.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Even though all them even though all them people just can confined in the expo center just with all the fumes, but that's okay.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: You gotta breathe that that nice smell in though.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: See, normally normally I get my fix from NHRA, but I want to go to the Chili Bowl so bad.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Get the midget fumes.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: But um, on to Cars Tour.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Cars Tour, they have their season finale at South Boston Speedway Virginia lap in Virginia last Saturday night.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: In the pro late models, it was Mesa Walters finishing the job, winning the race, and locking up the championship by just 26 points.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: And in late model stock, trade and lapsevich in a one-off start for Junior Motorsports in the number eight late model stock goes out and picks up his second late monosto stock victory.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Teammate Caden Kwapel's second, as of course he locked up the late monosto stock title with a win at Newport Speedway two weeks ago.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: But Car Store kicks off 2027 with their first trip to Florida.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: That Cletus's track, the Freedom Factory, on February 6th.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: That's gonna be fun.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: That'd be a really cool one to go to.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:09SPEAKER_04: Who wouldn't love to get up to that?
- 9:10SPEAKER_04: And who wouldn't just love to watch it in general, especially like what Cletus is bringing in.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: And plus, I know I know Dale Jr.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: and um both Carson and well yeah, and Hervick too.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say both the Colopals, Carson and Caden are racing too.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: So that that race is just gonna be loaded.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: And it's like a it's a week before the clash, too, so it's like right before speed week, so you got that built up.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Florida's gonna be buzzing.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Well, and it's smacked uh right in the middle of um all the stuff at Volusia.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: It's all just smushed in there.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: So all squeezed into one whole few weeks.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: Florida's just gonna be buzzing.
- 10:05SPEAKER_04: It was already buzzing just for the 500 law.
- 10:08SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 10:11SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: Next year.
- 10:14SPEAKER_04: Next year.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: It it doesn't feel like next year, but yeah.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it doesn't.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: It doesn't even feel like October.
- 10:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:25SPEAKER_04: It's closer to November then.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: But um on the High Limits Championship weekend, High Limit had their all-in championship weekend last Friday and Saturday at the Texas Motors Fiele Dirt Track with Rico Aber and Giovanni Selzi fighting for a championship.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: It would have been Aaron Reizell, too, had he not gotten injured from his Lakeside Spiele wreck the Saturday night prior, aka classic Aaron Reitzel wrecking half the field.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Um but we knew that Gio Selzi was gonna have to throw the kitchen sink to have a chance at the High Limit title, and to his credit, he damn sure tried to do that.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Winning Friday with Rika finishing third to cut the lead down to 36 heading into Saturday, and then Selzi swept the weekend by winning again on Saturday to close out the year with three straight high limit victories, ending up with four on the year.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: The the problem is Rika finished second on Saturday and still clinched his second straight High Limit title by 31 points.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: But for Spider Motorsports debut season with a 410 sprint card team to get four high limit wins, a 360 Knoxville Nationals freelan win, and a second place points finish in High Limit, that that's pretty damn impressive, Giovanni says he got the triple dipper.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: He's just the he's now just the um fifth driver in High Limit history to win three in a row in High Limit as well.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: But we're still waiting on High Limit's full 2027 schedule.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: But we do know that the third edition of the exhibition High Limit International in Australia will take place December 28th to the 30th, so at least we have that to look forward to the time being.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: But on to NHRA, NHRA was in Dallas at the Texas Murder Plex for the Texas Fall Nationals.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: If you're thinking, wow, that's really close to where High Limit was, you'd be correct.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: It was only about an hour down the road.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: But um race 4-6 of the countdown of the championship in true Texas fashion, there was a lot of double-stepping red lights with four on Sunday eliminations alone, including in the top field final round, where Matty Gordon, just her third ever top field final, double-stepped, allowing Antron Brown to run a 370 with a six at 335.75 miles per hour and comes to his second win of the season, fourth win in Dallas, an 83rd career win, moving into third in points, although he's still 224 back of Sean Langdon for the lead as his four-race win was four-race win streak was snapped this past weekend.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: Langdon's probably gonna run away with this top field world championship, let's be honest.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: And funny car J.R.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: Todd kept his title hopes alive with his second victory of the season, beating points leader Matt Hagen with a 393-1 at 331.76 miles per hour for his first funny car win at Texas Spartaplex.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: As Todd now becomes the fourth driver in Nature history to win in both top field and funny car at the track.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: Todd's 24th career win puts him third in points, trailing Hagen by 119 with two races to go.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: Jordan Vaniger still second, sitting 98 back.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: In pro stock KB Titan Racing, they finally got back up on the horse after Elite Motors Short swept the first three races of the countdown as defending world champion Dallas Glenn picked up win number five on the season, going back to back at Texas Motorplex by defeating Matt Harford with a 647-8 at 212.30 miles per hour.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: Reclaimed the pro stock points lead by just 14 points over Greg Stanfield.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: That's less than a round difference, and complete a weekend that saw him break the national pro stock elapsed time record with a blistering run on Saturday of 643 fourth, 213.50 miles per hour.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: And pro stock motorcycle would be Matt Smith, keeping his record seventh world championship flips alive by collecting his fourth plan of the year, second in Texas Motorbikes, and 46th career win over points later in defending world champion Richard Gatson by running a 666-0 at 203.08 miles per hour to defeat Gatson's quicker.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: 665-4 at 203.79 miles per hour on a 006 full shot.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: Smith is now also third in points with two races left, sitting just 85 back.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: NHRA Las Vegas Nationals, powered by Dodge at the strip at Las Vegas Motors Play.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: AKA for you, NHRA newbies here.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: The drag strip next to the big mile and a half track, not the actual Las Vegas strip.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: The F1 race isn't for another month, y'all.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: Don't get that confused.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: But on to Phoenix, where the chase has just been completely blown wide open.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: We'll start with the trucks where Caden Honeycutt fires back after Lane Riggs win at Charlotte the week prior with his own win in the desert at Phoenix, collecting win number four in the season to end in his career.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: Expanding his points lead to 39 points over Riggs, finished third from the pole.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: Christian Eck is yet another second place finish.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: It's the first time a truck series driver has finished second in three straight races since Johnny Sauder back in 2017.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: It's been a while since I've heard his name.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: Um Jeski swept the stages and ended up fourth with Thorsport teammate Jake Garcia completing the top five are updated picks and standings.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: I lead Evan by 69 points.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Haley by 100 points.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Stacy by 116, Noah by 300, Zayn by 308, Bernardo by 363, and Ethan by 370.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: With my win with Caden Honeycut, um, that eliminated Noah, Zayn, Bernardo, and Ethan from the championship all in one go, but y'all are really close together.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: I will say.
- 15:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, what'd you say?
- 15:54SPEAKER_04: We're like 70 points apart from each other, the four of us.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Zayn's eight points behind Noah, and then Ethan, you're seven points behind Bernardo.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: I think you're 70 points apart, so that's less than a race worth with three races left.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let's just pray.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Let's pray Ethan doesn't finish dead last.
- 16:16SPEAKER_04: I can't if I get beat by a retired guy, I'm sorry.
- 16:20SPEAKER_04: I just need to I need to be.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just go uh just retire also and just see where wheel spins get you.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: Have the one win.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: I'll take it.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: Gosh.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I picked Honeycutt, who um won the race, led 53 laps with the most laps, led the fastest lap.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: Evan with Challenger Smith ends up 15th after a um, I want to say it was too many wins.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Well, no, it was over the wall too soon.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: It was a pit road penalty that got him.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Haley with Ben Rhodes in 21st with a flat tire.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: Stacy with Grant Enfinger ends up ninth after running outside the top 10 like all night.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Noah with Chris Ray ends up 26th.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Ethan with Daniel Hemrick ends up with a solid seventh.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: And Zayn, you picked Christian Eckis, who ended up second with a couple laps.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Solid ones there.
- 17:24SPEAKER_03: God darn Ekas has been super consistent.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: I picked Ekis again for Taladega this upcoming weekend, I'm pretty sure.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you yep, yep, you did.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: Because somebody stole my Riggs pick.
- 17:38SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's right.
- 17:38SPEAKER_04: I did.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: Riggs is my guy, man.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 17:42SPEAKER_04: I was just about to say, I'm like, wait a minute.
- 17:44SPEAKER_04: Who's my who's my pick for trucks?
- 17:45SPEAKER_04: I forgot.
- 17:46SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's right.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: I always tell I always tell people, oh, who's my pick?
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: Just look in the group chat.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: It's not hard.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: Just look in the group chat.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: See, this is why this is why I um this is why I manage the group chat and the spreadsheet and keep everything organized.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Because nobody else organizes anything.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know, because if I did it, it'd be a whole shit show.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Oh god.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: That'd be awful.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: But you know, Riley's coming in.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: We had the top four in points separated by just 15 points, but it was Jesse Love who took control in dominating fashion, leading 156 with 200 laps, sweeping the stages, and holding off Sam Mayer to score his second win this year, both being in the chase, and his fifth for a win, opening up a 36-point lead over Justin Allgayer with 40 days 39 back, and Sheldon Creed falling all the way down to fourth 59 back after ending with entering with a two-point lead over Love.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: Mayer's second, but probably honestly would have won this race with an extra five or so laps, which is wild since he started in the back with an engine change.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: Algar in third day and fourth, and Sammy Smith completing the top five.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Creed ended up 32nd multiple laps down after having a malfunction of the kill switch in the car, which caused his car to lose power under the stage one yellow.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: He had no chance to recover up to that.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: Our updated picks and standings.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: I still lead the O'Reilly's points by 45 over Stacy, 151 over Haley, 383 over Evan, 579 over Bernardo, 661 over Zane, 683 over Renoa, 756 over Ethan.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: Although I will say, Ethan, congratulations! You got O'Reilly's victory.
- 19:19SPEAKER_03: Finally.
- 19:32SPEAKER_04: Finally got one about time.
- 19:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: And now you just need a cup.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: Go ahead.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: It took you about 15 races.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: Hey, I still got one.
- 19:43SPEAKER_04: I'll take it.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say, Ethan, you only need a cup win now to become just the third driver to win in all four series behind uh alien me.
- 19:53SPEAKER_04: I'll save it for save it for the next segment, though.
- 19:57SPEAKER_04: That was really freaking close.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you were pretty close.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say Zayn, um, you just need a IndyCar win, I believe.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean IndyCar, I kind of don't you know I don't really care much about IndyCar besides A500.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: No offense to IndyCars, just I don't watch it.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: Hey, I mean they're going they're probably gonna go to Spain next year, so that's something.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: I already know you're probably gonna win that.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: It's probably gonna be Pelow.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, probably yeah.
- 20:30unknown: Yeah.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: Although, I mean Chris and Lingard going to Ganassi, I mean I do like that.
- 20:36SPEAKER_04: I like that move a lot.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: And then of course you got McLaren just loading up with a ward, uh, Rosenquist, and Dixon.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: So that's something.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: There's gonna be training blows all year.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for real.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Might actually have to watch a season of IndyCar for once.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: We're gonna have to get you hooked.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: I gotta get you all hooked on like everything else.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I mean, I don't mind IndyCar.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, I already have a favorite driver.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: I I don't like Penske, but I like New Garden, so Yeah.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: It's a process.
- 21:17SPEAKER_04: My only IndyCar win has come courtesy of my the guy I call my favorite.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: You like Kyle Kirk, would I say?
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say, Ethan, that was the first win that you got, was that one indie car win, and then you got the truck win with Riggs at Charlotte last week, the O'Reilly's win with um Love this week.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Do you get the cup win next week?
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: Am I gonna go watch Austin?
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: Am I gonna witness Austin Hill winning coverage telling maybe?
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: Probably not gonna happen.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna happen.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: I hate to tell you, dude, but it's probably not gonna happen.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: Let the
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Hey, I mean you can say that with pretty much everybody in the field.
- 22:04SPEAKER_04: Let the rowdy fan be delusional.
- 22:07SPEAKER_04: I also have I also picked him for O'Reilly, though, too.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: Nah, this guy is the one that needs to win.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Zilly needs to win, Teddy.
- 22:15SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, you're picked too.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: Silly Zilly's gonna go back to uh Torture City again.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Don't remind me.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: But um yeah, but I picked Sean Creed.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: That didn't go well for me.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: It was going well, and then the kill switch mount functioned.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it's not good.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: I got something to add on that.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: He is like he started the chase hot with win at Darlington.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: And the win at Bristol.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then when at Bristol, and then he's just choked.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: He's choke after choke after choke after choke, pretty much.
- 22:48SPEAKER_04: Well I will say, I will give him or just a fall off in general.
- 22:54SPEAKER_04: Kind of, yeah.
- 22:55SPEAKER_04: I will give him this to his credit.
- 22:57SPEAKER_04: He's had some pretty crappy starting positions throughout the time.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's had some really bad starting positions.
- 23:04SPEAKER_04: I mentioned this in our group chat uh when the O'Reilly the race at Charlotte was happening last week.
- 23:10SPEAKER_04: Um Creed always is just kind of one of those guys where you like you don't realize he's there until like the last stage of the race, and then bam, all of a sudden top five.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I mean it's not like Creed has a lack of speed.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: He finished third at Charlotte and um was second in stage one at Phoenix right before the kill switch went bye-bye.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: But um kind of one.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: Evan with Austin Hill, speaking speaking of Austin Hill, we're just talking about it, ends up 15th.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: Haley with Sam Mayer ends up second.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: I do think Sam Mayer would have won if there was either A, another restart, or B, like another like five laps on that race.
- 23:48SPEAKER_04: Sam Mayer has honestly like really impressed me about the playoffs.
- 23:52SPEAKER_04: I know people rightfully talk about the guys that are mainly fighting for the championship.
- 23:57SPEAKER_04: Love, pre-dall guy or day, low.
- 24:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, right.
- 24:00SPEAKER_04: They rightfully talk about all those guys, but Mayer has kind of always quietly been like right behind those guys, and he's had some really consistent finishes.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: He's the dark horse.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Mayor's just Mayer's just knocking on that door because he hasn't won since Iowa last year, so it's been over a year, and he's just he's just knocking on that door.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: And I mean Go ahead, go ahead, finish.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say, like, um speaking kind of forward forward thinking to Talladega this weekend, if you remember back in the spring race, it was three wide on the back stretch with Mayer on the bottom, and then he got turned by Sawalish.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: It was a damn lap cart that Mayer was right there on the last lap at Talladega in the spring.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: So spoiler alert, I picked him for this weekend, so sorry, Zane.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, I thought I honestly thought Mare was gonna get love there at the end.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: He was yeah, I did too.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: He was really close.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: He was way lower than Love was too.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he was he was able to wrap that bottom up.
- 25:16SPEAKER_04: His car definitely looked better in like the last couple of laps.
- 25:19SPEAKER_04: I say that even though I'm the one who picked love.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: I definitely I mean, if he had like one or two more laps, he definitely would have got him for sure.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I sa I mean I only said five laps just because like I mean he was there, but obviously catching is one thing, passing is another.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: It's hard to pass a Phoenix.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: I mean I mean, yeah, you could get side by side with somebody cutting the dog leg, but passing them is still another pain in the ass.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: But um Stacy with Carson Kwapel ends up tenth.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: Noah with Glavar Scott ends up 19th.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: Saying you had Algayer who ended up third, but the fastest lab.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Hooray.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: The only good thing he had that entire race is the fastest lab.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: I mean, Algar's still there.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: He chopped off another like well, I think he's third in points, I believe, right now.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: I think somebody else who's fallen off in the chase has been quabble.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: Entered.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay, I'll gat all guar is second.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: Well, Quabble had that really bad run at um Charlotte with a flat tire.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: He said, would know all too well about that.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: Say don't remind me.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: One time I just picking Quobble.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: I'm about to say, I bailed you out that week the one time you don't pick him.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say all guy are second in the chase standings, 36 back, not third, Corday's third.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: But I don't know.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: The Araily standings are still tight, but Love definitely opened it up a little bit with his win.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: But you want to talk about tight chase standings.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: Cup race.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: That's that's where that's where things get wild.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, it it it it at first it seems like typical team Penske short, short track, flat, flat short track.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: Um Blaney leading the start, Logano swept the stages, and then uh Christopher Bell led into stage two before both he and Blaney had slow pit stops because of course they did.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: Then Denny Hamlin, a costly flat right rear tire, and then a speeding penalty while coming down pit road with that flat tire on top of that, which um that that takes Evan out of the championship.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: Um before Bubba Wallace, he took control of the race off Pit Road as Lagan and Blaney had even more slow pit stops, and mind you, Blaney's pit crew, um they swapped his initial pit crew with Cindric's pit crew at the start of the chase.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: So it's not like Blaney's get a whole new pit crew set.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, or something.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: But then the big one points leader Kyle Larson, after not finishing worse than sixth, this entire chase brought up the caution with 30 to go after wrecking out with a flat tire, would end up finishing 34th.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: Then Bubba was too fast entering on pit road, costing him a shot at the win.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Another bubble wallace fumbling of a victory, almost as bad as New Hampshire back in August.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: Um, but as it turns out, it would be teammate Tyler Reddick, who comes through on the last three star with 19 to go to steal the victory, collecting win number six on the year in his 14th through win.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: However, he won for the first time in six months.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: It's been almost six months since Spring Kansas back on April 19th.
- 28:32SPEAKER_04: Did not see him coming kind of out of the blue there.
- 28:35SPEAKER_04: I mean I I didn't I didn't watch their race happen.
- 28:38SPEAKER_04: I was listening to it on MRN, so I just hear them say, Redick floor wide, he's got Briscoe.
- 28:44SPEAKER_04: I was so confused.
- 28:44SPEAKER_04: I'm like, where the heck did he come from?
- 28:46SPEAKER_04: I haven't heard his name the entire time.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we really haven't talked about him much in the chase.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: Not that he's been bad, it's just he hasn't really had much nervous to talk about.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: But I'll tell you one thing though, somebody else who finally got a good result was Chase Elliott finishing third.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: Finally had top five.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: What I think it's like first top five of the chase.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, something.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: It's been a while.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: Um I couldn't last time he had a top five before that.
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: Redick with a clutch win um launches into seventh in points, just 56 back of Larson, who still somehow leads the points by just five over Bell and by over Chase Briscoe by 24 points.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: But top seven in points within 56 points of each other.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: That is less than a race.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, do I dare say close enough?
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: Welcome back 1992.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: Something.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: But um Blaney still ended up in second.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Go ahead.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: Just have to remind me of Larson hitting the wall.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: FYI picked Larson, just for anybody obviously wondering.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: Blaney still ended up in second, failing to win his third race in the road at Phoenix.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: Uh Elliott third, like we mentioned.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: Bell ended up fourth, and shout out Corey Haim in fifth after starting way back in 36th.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: Just I mean, I knew Haim had like a top 15 car and then somehow just ends up fifth, but he finished in fifth.
- 30:14unknown: Holy cow.
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: Them 23-11 cars.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: Them 23-11 cars besides Riley Herbst at speed.
- 30:22SPEAKER_04: That dude always seems to just randomly impress every time he comes in.
- 30:26SPEAKER_04: Obviously, we know the two wins this year.
- 30:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 30:29SPEAKER_04: I saw a statistic earlier, too.
- 30:32SPEAKER_04: Even though Haim has ran like half the races he has, I think he had he has like a hundred points up on Cody Ware.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's got a hundred more honor points on Cody Ware.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: Speaking of Riley Herbst, Ethan, you might want to turn around.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: Got the Riley Herbst back bumper on the wall.
- 30:50SPEAKER_05: Terrible.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: I mean, Herbs just completely just wrecks Stenhouse and then um ends up wrecking himself.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: Every time that happens, it just reminds me of 2012 Kansas all over again with Landing Castle and Danny Patrick.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: Rule number one of stock car racing.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: Learn how to wreck someone like wrecking yourself.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Logano, despite sweeping the stages, ends up sixth.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: Briscoe on older tires fell from the lead on the what?
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: Ha whatever.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: Briscoe on older tires fell from the lead on the restart.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: Um ends up back at eighth at the finish.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: Also, Zayn Smith ran into the back of Carson Hosmart at pretty high speed on the cooldown lap, despite the fact that it was actually Ross Chast ain't getting into Hostsmark who got into Zane Smith.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: But Zayn Smith even said on the radio, I don't care.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: But we know these two have a history.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: They had to um they got talked to each other at uh Chicagoland back in July, but Zane Smith was fined$50,000 um for that.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: And if you're wondering, oh, why was there no penalty for McDowell and Stenhouse versus um compared to Smith and Husbar?
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: Well the difference was was McDowell and Stenhouse, that was at like 40 miles an hour.
- 32:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and then not to mention they were told to go settle it out on the track when they got cold.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: Versus like Zayn Smith ran into the back of Hosbar like I don't know how fast he was going to be able to do that.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: It seemed like he was going really fucking fast.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, I thought I heard somewhere saying that it was like 100 100 like 130, but I don't know.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: That's what I thought I seen too.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it looked like that.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: I do want to ask though, do we think the the penalty was deserved?
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: I say yes.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: I think it would've I think it kind of should result in a d a suspension though, too.
- 32:41SPEAKER_04: Because that's obviously I know it's obviously not as high of a speed, but it does kind of give me deja vu of the fall Charlotte Race 2014.
- 32:52SPEAKER_04: Matt Kenza, Tony Stewart still unstrapping their seatbelts, and then here comes Keslowski like a frickin' missile.
- 32:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, speed, but it gives me like the same potential Hosovar could have been unstrapping his seatbelts, and if you get hit 130 from the back end at that point, like Yeah, it could've it could have caused like an injury to Hosovar.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: So I think it should have resulted in at least a one race suspension to Smith.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: I can see I can see where that argument can be held.
- 33:21SPEAKER_04: Give Lane Riggs a cup shot for a race.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:24SPEAKER_04: I think Go ahead.
- 33:28SPEAKER_00: I I I think I think I think a fine's the right call, but I think it should have been a larger than fifty thousand dollar fine.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: But I think if Hosbar was actually like injured or even just like shooken up and it was like publicized, or like well, I don't know if that's the wrong that's kind of the wrong word, but like if he was injured, like it should have been a suspension.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: But that's just me.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, either way, I still think it's a sus it should be suspension because it's on the cooldown lab.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: I can see the argument, yeah.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:00unknown: I can see the argument.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think a lot of people could agree that that should be uh at least a one-ray suspension.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: And possibly a really deep down uh talk with NASCAR on safety with stuff like that.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: I do think they should talk to Zane Smith about stuff like that, yeah.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: The safety things.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because Hosovar could have really got hurt if he was like on if he was like already unbuckled by then.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: But I will say this, obviously the chase, as we know, has been blown wide open, and of course, just in time for big bad Talladega.
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: Thank goodness I get to go on Sunday.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: I finally don't have to listen to Zane yap about oh, you haven't been to a race this year yet.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: I still have you beat on dirt races, though.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you do.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: I have both of you beat on that actually.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: You probably have both of us beat combined, though.
- 34:56SPEAKER_04: I got beat on cup races though, so that's fair.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, I knew I was gonna have a fall off.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: I went to like seven, I went to seven cup races last year.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Jesus Christ, dude.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: Seven or yeah, well, because I went to um uh I went to Talvaga in the spring, which apparently apparently Ethan was there.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: I didn't even know it.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we just found that out like this past Sunday.
- 35:20SPEAKER_04: That was that was wild.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then I went to Kansas two weeks later when Larson crushed everybody, and then um Nashville in June, and then Atlanta when Elliott won, and then um Indy when Bubba won at the brickyard, then Iowa the next week, and then Gateway.
- 35:44SPEAKER_01: If only he went to Gateway this year.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:49SPEAKER_00: I I wish I could have gone to Gateway this year, that would have been nice.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: That would have been really cool.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: He would have went got to witness me blow one thousand four hundred dollars.
- 35:57SPEAKER_05: Hell yeah.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: Ethan's still in shock that I blew that much.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: I'm not surprised.
- 36:07SPEAKER_00: No comment.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no comment.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: But what's interesting is NASCAR's also, they've told the teams to bring the four-inch spoilers in addition to the three and a half inch spoilers that were added to the super spirit package after Daytona back in August.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: So that'll be interesting.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: I'm curious why they're doing that.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: Like, if they're gonna because like you would think if they would do that, you would think they would have a practice session and be like, okay, here we're gonna run it with the three and a half inch spoiler, here we're gonna run it with the four-inch spoiler, and you know, but no, because remember, super spirit racing, there ain't no practice, so they're gonna run two laps of qualifying and then boom, race time.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: So, like, I'm curious, like, why are we bringing the four-inch spoilers?
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: And like, are they are they just gonna like pull an audible and be like, hey, alright, um, we're gonna make all of you change the spoilers middle of the race for no reason.
- 37:01SPEAKER_04: I mean, yeah, I mean, I do think it's strange that they're not bringing in um like a practice session for that spoiler.
- 37:10SPEAKER_04: However, with uh Talladega, naturally, chaos is gonna come around for the fans, and I do think that will be extremely entertaining to watch.
- 37:19SPEAKER_04: Um the drivers kind of have to adapt whether it be a switch midway through or a spoiler they're not used to.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: I think I doubt I doubt that NASCAR's gonna be stupid enough to stop the race in the middle of the way through to make everybody change their spoilers, either from the uh three and a half inch to the four inch or the four inch to the three and a half inch, but um I don't know.
- 37:46SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be chaotic for sure, and if they do stick with the three and a half inch, um, that's only been ran at Daytona back in August, and we saw um how chaotic it can be when you pull out a line and the air just um hits your car so smack that just boom.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: We saw it with Hosvar at Daytona back in August, tried to pass for second and just wrecked just because of the arrow.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: It was so sensitive on the car.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I want to add on to kind of like with Ethan's point.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: Uh I feel like if they're gonna bring a four-inch spoiler, they should at least give them maybe like an hour-long practice just so they can try to adapt to the the new spoiler.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: Because that's kind of unfair to some of the drivers in the teams that aren't used to the four-inch spoiler.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: And I feel like they should they deserve at least one practice session so then they can know what the what their car is gonna feel like with uh the new spoiler.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: Well, it's more of well, it's well it's more of like it's more of their more not used to the three and a half inch because it only ran a daytona back in August, and prior to that it was the four-inch spoiler, but it's like if you're gonna possibly have uh rotation or a flip, or even just you know, you have two different spoilers at the track, why wouldn't you have a practice session to figure out which one you're gonna run if they decide that?
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know, they should have a practice session.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: Every every race weekend should have two practice sessions, period.
- 39:22SPEAKER_00: But that's just me.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I agree.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: But um, we know the chase has been just completely blown wide open, and of course we're going to Talladega this weekend.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: Out of the top seven, which the top seven within 56 points of each other, less than a race worth.
- 39:40SPEAKER_00: Let's see how they do it Talladega on super speedways.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: Larson the points leader, no super speedway wins.
- 39:46SPEAKER_00: It is widely publicized that Larson just absolutely sucks on super speedways, to be honest.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: That's kind of true.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's had some top fives here and there, but no super speedway wins, and also the worst average finish at Dega, the top seven, with a 22nd place average finish.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: Bell sitting five back in second as a win at Atlanta last year, and two poles at Dega with a 19.6 average finish.
- 40:08SPEAKER_00: Briscoe sitting 24 back in third as the defending fall Talladega winner and finished second at Atlanta back in February.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: Hamlin sitting 31 back in fourth has five restricted plate victories, including two at Talladega.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: Blaney sitting 40 back in fifth has six restricted plate victories, including three at Talladega, along with the win at Atlanta back in July.
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: McGonna sitting 44 back in sixth, also has six restricted plate victories, including three of those at Talladega.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: However, the last of those Talladega wins was back in the spring of 2018, a long time ago.
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: And perhaps the most interesting, Reddick sitting 56 points back in seventh won Spring Talladega back in 2024, one day Twenty 500 in Spring Atlanta back in February of this year.
- 40:51SPEAKER_00: So he definitely has the most momentum out of anyone coming off of the Phoenix win last week.
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: So man, it's gonna be interesting.
- 41:01SPEAKER_01: There is one thing that could throw this thing for you in a bigger curveball, the good old Talladega big one.
- 41:09SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, we could have a 20-car pilot for all we know.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: We could have a repeat of spring Talladega.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's a lot of heavy hitters hit out of that one.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, for all we know, this Chase standings could be just completely flipped upside down come time next week.
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, Reddick could literally go out and beat the chase standings.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: And if I'm not mistaken, if I remember correctly, um, you know who's eighth in the standings?
- 41:42SPEAKER_00: If I looked at correctly, I'm pretty sure it's Austin Cindrick.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: And he won Yeah, he won Talladega in the spring of 25 when me and Ethan were there.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: So it's like that's a surprise.
- 41:53SPEAKER_00: And Sindrick really in this whole chase has been a surprise.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: Had the back-to-back top fives at Kansas and Vegas, and had another one going at Charlotte until he faded to like a four-teinth.
- 42:05SPEAKER_04: But and you already know the the Penske Fords are over there.
- 42:09SPEAKER_04: They already always a threat out there, they always are working together.
- 42:14SPEAKER_04: So you know they're gonna be working as hard as they can to get to the front.
- 42:17SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: And of course, go ahead.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: Uh uh there's another uh Ford to watch out for that's a Penske Alliance, and it's Barry.
- 42:27SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, Barry's been so good during the chase.
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: Just I know too bad he's not a part of it.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: Barry could definitely be a dark horse for sure.
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, I feel like if Barry was a part of the chase, he'd be the one giving Larson a real good money run for his money.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's a little stretch, but okay.
- 42:45SPEAKER_04: I mean I see where you're coming from.
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah, true.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: Besides Gateway where he had a rough finish at.
- 42:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: Ethan's over here.
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: We're gonna have to do the math on that after recording.
- 43:01SPEAKER_00: We we will definitely have to do the math on that.
- 43:03SPEAKER_00: But I mean that 21 War Brothers car, it does have that win at the summer day toner race in 24 with Harrison Burton.
- 43:10SPEAKER_00: So I mean, we've seen before how we've seen that 21 car win at a super speed race when whoever's driving it is gonna be out of a job.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: So could happen.
- 43:23SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, anything could happen.
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: That is true.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: We could see a Cole Custer or Cody Ware victory for all we know.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: Could see a Carzilla's first win.
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: Anything can happen.
- 43:36SPEAKER_00: And I would be remiss not to mention Carson O'Spark, obviously, who picked up career win number one back to Talladega in April.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: If he can sweep Talladega this Sunday, it would be just the eighth time in Talladega's history that a driver swept the two races at the track in the same year, which would join Pete Hamilton in 1970, Buddy Baker in 1975, Darrell Waltrip in 1982, Dale Sr.
- 43:58SPEAKER_00: in both 1990 and 1995.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Dale Jr.
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: in 2002, and the most recent occurrence, Jeff Gordon in 2007, which was actually kind of crazy because Jeff Gordon, when he swept in 2007, it was the old Gen 4 in the spring and the COT in the fall.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: So that just makes the bet even more impressive.
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: Do I think Hosebar can pull off the sweep?
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: I sure hope so.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: But it's a tall horse.
- 44:24SPEAKER_01: I mean I think he could.
- 44:25SPEAKER_01: I mean it's Telegraph though.
- 44:27SPEAKER_01: I mean anybody could win, like we mentioned.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: I mean he ran up front.
- 44:33SPEAKER_04: I mean he ran up front.
- 44:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, say that.
- 44:39SPEAKER_04: But we also talked about, like we said, how the arrow has kind of been sketchy with it.
- 44:43SPEAKER_04: So we'll see what that uh does to Hosovar's confidence.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: I don't say Summer Daytona being the most recent um play track, and we saw him right kind of that.
- 44:54SPEAKER_00: But I mean, he ran up front and then he finished top five at both Atlanta races.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: He led the Daytona 500 on the last lap before getting sparned.
- 45:03SPEAKER_00: So he's been really quick on the Super Spirit's this year.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: And I don't think it matters whether it's the three and a half inch spoiler or a four-inch spoiler or uh drunk Brian France stumbles back in.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: It's like, you know what, let's bring the seven-inch spoiler back.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: Why not?
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, no matter what, Hospar's gonna be aggressive anyway.
- 45:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not gonna change anything.
- 45:23SPEAKER_00: Hold Spar's gonna be aggressive and put his car where he needs to and try and go out and win.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: And you know, we'll see what happens.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: I definitely feel like though him coming off of the spring win.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: I definitely feel like he's one of the top favorites for sure.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, for sure.
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: No doubt.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: Um, our updated picks and standings for cup wise, I lead the cup standings by 199 over Haley.
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: And if I leave Talladega with a 172-point lead or more, I will clinch the cup title.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: Evan, 292 back.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: He got eliminated after the 28th with Hamlin with the flat tire at Phoenix, as we mentioned.
- 45:59SPEAKER_00: So Evan will not win back-to-back cup titles.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: Stacey, 444 back, Ethan, 709 back, Bernardo 813 back, Noah 823 back.
- 46:09SPEAKER_00: Zane, you're really like a flat 900 back in the cup standings.
- 46:14SPEAKER_00: So um, yeah, I see the I rays there.
- 46:20SPEAKER_00: I picked Bellett Phoenix.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: I thought dead last.
- 46:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, true.
- 46:25SPEAKER_00: I picked Bellett Phoenix, ended up fourth, uh, led the most laps.
- 46:29SPEAKER_00: Evan, as we mentioned, picked Hamlin, 28th with the flat tire.
- 46:33SPEAKER_00: Haley with Logano ended up sixth.
- 46:34SPEAKER_00: Stacey with Chastain ended up ninth.
- 46:37SPEAKER_00: No with Almeninger ended up 23rd.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: Ethan, as we kind of alluded to earlier, you were close to becoming the third driver um out of us picks-wise to win in all four series.
- 46:48SPEAKER_00: You picked Blaney and you ended up second, trying to go for um, or Blaney trying to go for three straight wins at Phoenix.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: And you were trying to go for your first couple.
- 46:59SPEAKER_04: Glad I made this switch last second.
- 47:02SPEAKER_04: Um, I originally had picked Gibbs.
- 47:06SPEAKER_04: Um you did pick Gibbs, yeah.
- 47:08SPEAKER_04: And uh didn't he finish he finished 10th.
- 47:11SPEAKER_00: He finished 10th.
- 47:13SPEAKER_04: Okay, yeah.
- 47:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because finish either way, but I'll take eight spots higher.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say Elliot, Briscoe, and Gibbs were the three cars that um stayed out under that last caution.
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: Elliot ended up third, Briscoe ended up eighth, and Gibbs ended up tenth, so it wasn't a horrible strategy call.
- 47:34SPEAKER_00: But we saw them stay out, we saw two tire calls, we saw four tire calls, it was a whole mix of stuff.
- 47:40SPEAKER_00: And of course the same with Larson, DF 1034th.
- 47:45SPEAKER_00: I know you're just grimacing at the fact that I'm reminding you.
- 47:49SPEAKER_00: But yeah.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: Um I don't know.
- 47:52SPEAKER_00: Hey, hey, Larson did not run good at all during that entire race.
- 47:57SPEAKER_00: I know, I thought he would run outside better.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: You know, I thought he would run a little better, but at the same time, he highlighted it as a track that he definitely could have had some problems.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: And he had some problems.
- 48:09SPEAKER_00: He qualified outside the top 20, ran outside the top 20, and then blew a tire.
- 48:14SPEAKER_04: Well, I was told to you last week.
- 48:16SPEAKER_04: This is this is this these four or these three tracks, Caladega, Martinsville.
- 48:22SPEAKER_04: That was the stretch where the other guys behind Larson were gonna need to capitalize.
- 48:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:28SPEAKER_04: Larson made the mistake, and Larson had the bad day, and Fields capitalized.
- 48:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's sad.
- 48:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, for the for the rest, for the rest of the chasers, job one is complete.
- 48:39SPEAKER_00: Larson ran outside the top 20 all day, blew a tire wrecked.
- 48:43SPEAKER_00: And I mean, even Hamlin, who ended up like the worst of the other um chasers in contention, like he still gained points despite finishing 28th.
- 48:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's just 31 back now.
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: So I'm like we said top seven.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: And also didn't help that Larson got no stage points, also.
- 49:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it didn't help either.
- 49:05SPEAKER_00: Top seven, all within a race is worth of points, 56 back to Reddick in seventh.
- 49:11SPEAKER_00: It is tight.
- 49:13SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, Larson and Bell, top two in the standings, and Bell does have a super speedway win at Atlanta last February, but other than that, he hasn't been that great.
- 49:24SPEAKER_00: And Larson, we know, is not that great on super speedways.
- 49:27SPEAKER_00: It's been widely publicized, so we could see more drivers capitalize again.
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: Or for all we know, they all wreck and finish 30th.
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: Or all we talk about.
- 49:38SPEAKER_04: Maybe we can go ahead, Ethan.
- 49:40SPEAKER_04: Go ahead.
- 49:41SPEAKER_04: Maybe we talk about Austin Sindrake being in the chase conversation after this somehow.
- 49:46SPEAKER_00: That is a great point.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: That is a great point.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that is that is a great point because um I want to say he's like I think it's like 130 or something.
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: It is yeah, it's yeah, it's 130 on the dot.
- 50:04SPEAKER_00: I don't know how I called that, but yeah, it's 130 and zip it.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: But the most you can the most you can gain, obviously, in one race in terms of official cut points, we're talking 75 points.
- 50:20SPEAKER_00: So he's almost two races back, but we know how good Cindric has been at Talladega before.
- 50:26SPEAKER_00: Me and Ethan have first hand experience on that front.
- 50:29SPEAKER_00: So yeah, you're right.
- 50:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, we could talk Cindrick being in this championship conversation, although it'd be kind of fluky, but still, you know, and he Cindric could go out and win Taladega.
- 50:42SPEAKER_04: It would potentially be short-lived because of Martinsville and uh Homestead.
- 50:49SPEAKER_04: But you know, Cindrick has surprised us throughout the chase.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I mean Martinsville, you know, short flat track.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: We know Penske's good there, and then Homestead, mile and a half.
- 50:59SPEAKER_00: I mean, Syndrick, the three straight mile and a half, uh, Kansas Vegas, Charlotte finished second, fourth, and fourteenth.
- 51:07SPEAKER_00: But Charlotte, he was up front fighting for the lead too.
- 51:10SPEAKER_00: So, I mean, Cindrick could really surprise people.
- 51:13SPEAKER_00: And I don't know if I want to go out and say that Cindrick could finish top five in points, but Cindrick could really go out and surprise some people.
- 51:21SPEAKER_00: So we'll see what happens.
- 51:23SPEAKER_00: But um, that'll do it for tonight's episode of the Throttle Four Podcast.
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: Make sure you tune in, listen, watch them, download on Spotify.
