- 6:30the group cause is, the hurt for the parents is the same. So
- 6:36I want you to join me and celebrating and welcoming this great woman to the
- 6:46stage Indiana suiting your guests dropped out or while we wait for Indiana to give
- 7:06oh she's back. On a good evening, Indiana, And how are you
- 7:13doing on this winning Wednesday where everything attached to us winds? How are you
- 7:19doing? I'm doing, I'm doing. I'm a little fine. Yep,
- 7:26alright, alright. So we're gonna get right into it tonight, and I
- 7:30want you to. I'll tell the audience full Indiana Sweeting is hello everyone,
- 7:42and then good evening. My name is Indiana Sweeting Bumpers. I'm a mom.
- 7:46First, I'm the CEO of founder of Leak's Path, and I'm an
- 7:53author and a grandmother. Okay, Um, what is um Molique's Path?
- 8:01And how did you get one? Go on this journey? Um down Malique's
- 8:09Path? Um Malik's pot started Malik Um Malik was my youngest child. You
- 8:16know, he gets graduated high school, you know, on this way to
- 8:20on this was getting ready for college. But on September four, two thousand
- 8:26and sixteen, he was shot and killed. Yes, students hear that and
- 8:31killed and Um, things were so hectic, you know, I was about
- 8:39to lose my mind. A friend of mine suggested, Um, you know
- 8:43started something sat something in Elik's name, you know, one of him.
- 8:48You know your your end up passion, so I started Malik's Path. Um
- 8:56Release Path is a not for profit organization, but a five or one three
- 9:01feet you know we Um, Malik was into sports and education. So I
- 9:09cooked dinners, I saw books, I saw a T shirt to allow kids
- 9:16in my community for allowed me to give a kid in my kid community every
- 9:22year a scholarship. Oh that's wonderful. And also I was sport to youth
- 9:26to play um football, you know, to keep keep the youth off the
- 9:31street. You know, anything for the youth. Okay, okay, So
- 9:35that's how I'm the least have started. UM. So you said that,
- 9:43UM, well, I know this might be hard for you to talk about.
- 9:46It's been hard for you to talk about. I will go on to
- 9:50something else. But um, you say, just before Malik was to go
- 9:56off to college, he was gunned down to him his own neighborhood. Have
- 10:01you found the killer or killers yet? No? And that is what's so
- 10:05sad in our community. UM, September four to these seven years and the
- 10:09killer is still walking the street. Killer killers. You know, nobody's saying
- 10:18anything. Do you think that gun violence is more prevailed, um, more
- 10:26persistent and some communities than others. Yes, I noticed, and statistics even
- 10:33say that stated that, Um, the black, the more murders are in
- 10:37the black and brown community. Right, we're killing were killing over nonsense,
- 10:45we're killing ourselves. We're getting Um it's like they don't have to kill us
- 10:50anymore because we've been conditioned to kill one another. So, UM, do
- 10:56you feel that, um, there should be some kind of restrictions on guns
- 11:05that these young people can't get their hands on guns. Um. I don't
- 11:11know about the illegal guns, but you know, um, there's laws in
- 11:16place that if a person wanted to purchase a gun, you know, they
- 11:20should do a background check. I think background check is the way to go
- 11:26to eliminated the person have a mental problem in a domestic situation. That's what
- 11:33I think is important. But the illegal guns, I don't know what to
- 11:37say, right, Um, the illegal guns are one that's doing the killing,
- 11:43not the one that the person has to permit or a license to carry
- 11:48a gun. Right Because what we yeah, we normally say is that guns
- 11:54don't kill people. People do like guns just don't get up and fire themselves.
- 12:01But when you talk to young people, do you let them know that
- 12:05when they make a decision to pick up a gun. They not only affect
- 12:11their lives, but they also affect the life of the parents and the families
- 12:18who have lost the loved one. They it affects the life of their parents
- 12:24because they might still be alive, but they're in prison. So do you
- 12:31talk to young people about making that decision and stop it and thinking for a
- 12:37minute about the consequences that they are causing. Yes, I do. When
- 12:43I speak, I tell them that you know when you when you pick a
- 12:46gun up, you're the story in your life, your family life. That
- 12:50think before you pull the triggered thing, you know, And I think also
- 12:56do they need education? Education? Gun violence? Like every day, like
- 13:03twenty people died, like gun violence in the United States, Right, they
- 13:07need the young people, um not only need like you said, your son
- 13:13was in sports. Not only do the young people need other constructive activities to
- 13:20do, but they need to have methods and ways to deal with their problems
- 13:28other than just picking up a gun. We see children, well, now
- 13:33there was a child that was as young as six years old that shot his
- 13:37teacher. And you know, these kinds of things are happening all the time,
- 13:45that kids are just pulling a trigger not caring what innocent bystanders get shot,
- 13:52not considering the consequences their actions gonna have on their family. So I
- 14:03think that you know, we should start as young as UM three years old,
- 14:11UM checking UM, giving children other ways to check their emotions, to
- 14:18check their their feelings, because a lot of times they don't think, they
- 14:22act impossibly and they don't think about the consequences. They don't think about how
- 14:30their own mother is gonna be crying. They don't think about, like,
- 14:33over the last seven years, how has Malik's death affected you? UM?
- 14:45Some days? In the beginning, it was real hard. It took me
- 14:48almost like almost four years that I could stand up and speak his name without
- 14:54crying. But it's gotten a little better with me speaking, but it's hard.
- 15:05That's how we connected because I understand the pain that you're going into.
- 15:13I remember reading the story in the newspaper and immediately began to pray for you
- 15:22because I knew the journey that you were beginning to block on the club that
- 15:28nobody wants to be a member of, the person who lost the child,
- 15:33and you go through so many emotions, like people think that they are helping
- 15:39you and they tell you things like he's in a better place, and you're
- 15:45thinking in your mind, if it's such a better place, why don't you
- 15:48let your child go there and tell me how you feel about the place?
- 15:54Give me back my child. And you know, you eventually come to the
- 15:58accept that you know, to be absent from the body is to be present
- 16:03with the Lord. But sometimes we are a little selfish because we want to
- 16:11hold on to our loved ones. We don't want them to go to the
- 16:15better place, and we have such a maage of emotions, especially when you
- 16:21live in the same community that your sudden was gunned down in and the killer
- 16:29or killers might be coming to your house on Sunday for dinner, right,
- 16:33you don't know because we've heard of cases where best friends have shot their best
- 16:40friends and was Paul Barriers at the friend and get all the crying too,
- 16:47crying all emotions and everybody and they're crying, and you know you're having You're
- 16:53going through your emotions, but you're feeling bad for them, not knowing that
- 16:57they want to core your son's death. So what are the police? Um?
- 17:06We know that the Guilgo Beach murders um is prevalent on Long Island,
- 17:12Are they still looking for your son's killer or killers. Yes, well,
- 17:18I've spoken to the detectives. I'm spoken, I've spoken to the DA.
- 17:22They told me they still looking into it. I told him they need to
- 17:26look harder because the guilt that they like you said the Gilgo case, how
- 17:30long that's been My son is just seven years. But they're telling me the
- 17:34community is the one not speaking. Nobody in the community is speaking right because
- 17:38the community and hands the time because of the community. Yes, the community
- 17:44has this um no stitch code, but when it comes to losing a loved
- 17:52one, it's okay to say something if you know something, because you don't
- 17:57know the mental anguish that the mom is going through, not knowing what exactly
- 18:07happened. And I still haven't nobody still I still don't know what happened that
- 18:11day. All I know is my son is dead, and all and all
- 18:17the other boys that were there still alive, going over their lives like nothing
- 18:19happened, trying to avoid me. You know, I try to avoid them
- 18:23too. I pretend I don't see them, but they still live in their
- 18:27lives. Some finished schools, some didn't, right, And you know that
- 18:32that is a hard tilled us swallow um. Well, right now, we
- 18:38are going to go to a brief commercial break, and then we'll be right
- 18:45back with our guests, Indiana suiting and she'll tell you how you can get
- 18:51involved in her movement. We'll be right back. I survived being shot point
- 18:57blank range with a song off shotgun. Join me and share your story of
- 19:02survival. Only thirty three dollars thirty three cents. Book drops in October.
- 19:15They got to go after. I'm gonna to run a flip the scene to
- 19:18retront with not with a little touch of late first first Place, First First
- 19:37who said Hello, Hello, Hello, welcome back to Live Again Prodcast,
- 19:51where we encourage our audience to live again, no matter what loss you have
- 19:57gone through in your life, that you can live again. And we're speaking
- 20:02with Indiana Sweden, who lost her son Malisks to gun violence, and we're
- 20:10talking about gun violence and the effect that it has on parents a month old.
- 20:18The King said, by our readiness to allow alms to be purchased at
- 20:22well and by it at whim, we have created an atmosphere and which violence
- 20:30and hatred have become popular pastimes. Do you agree with M Martin Luther King
- 20:41that because we've made a gun so avail available and violence. Um, like
- 20:49guys feel like they made it when they have a body on their belt,
- 20:55they feel like they have cloud. When I used to be when Martin Luke
- 21:00the King was around that, UM, you got cloud by how much education
- 21:06you had, how much work you did in the community. But now you
- 21:10get cloud by how many bodies you have, how many years are you spend
- 21:15in prison? So do you think that the climate in this country has created
- 21:22them the climate for gun violence? Um? Yes, I believe that.
- 21:32I believe that. And also the Second Amendment, it's telling you, it's
- 21:34telling you you know you have to write to bear on, but bear on
- 21:37for what? Or two for what? What do you need on for?
- 21:41We don't need to bear on for but to protect your whole maybe, but
- 21:45then pick somebody's life. No, right, right? So, Um,
- 21:51we've UM discussed briefly for a few moments, beliefs have and this game.
- 21:57Can you tell us what UM fundraisers you have coming up to raise funds for
- 22:06UM youth in the community. Yes, well, on September twenty nine,
- 22:11I'm having my street name in his name, so from Arlington to Doe will
- 22:17be called LAK's fat. Yeah, that's awesome. And in September thirty is
- 22:22the seventy year UM annual dinner fundraiser for our scholarship. That's that's awesome.
- 22:29That's UM such a way UM to remember the legacy of Malik and what he
- 22:37stood for. So the people of the Wye Dance community will never ever beg
- 22:45He'll never be forgotten his name because the street is named that to him.
- 22:52So every time you go down that street, you remember Malik and what he
- 22:56stood for. And hopefully one day soon we will be able to UM bring
- 23:04the killer or killers to justice, so you can just have a little bit
- 23:11of closure. Won't bring Malif bag, but it will give you a bit
- 23:15of closure. Yeah. It is not knowing, not knowing, not knowing,
- 23:22you know, it's like you know right, not knowing, Like I
- 23:29have a little bit of comfort of knowing that my son died uh natural causes.
- 23:34But when someone else causes the harm to your child and you they're walking
- 23:41around free, you don't have that closure. Even though you went through UM
- 23:47the funeral process and the morning and the grief process, you still don't have
- 23:53that complete closure because somebody's walking around living their life like it's golden, but
- 24:02you're suffering and silence. It's like when the casket is closed on our child,
- 24:11a part of us dies. And even though people say it gets better,
- 24:15we're able to live with it a little better as times goes on,
- 24:22but it doesn't get better because I'm sure that like I do at the anniversary
- 24:29of his death, the date of his birth, all those days of very
- 24:33emotional days for me, And it's been twelve years since I buried my son,
- 24:41but those wounds become a fresh every time those memory dates come. So
- 24:52how can we be a part of Maligue's path? And um, can you
- 25:00um show us the book that you dedicated to Maligue's life and tell the audience
- 25:08how they can get that book and they could be part. That's a they
- 25:14can have just a little bit of a part of the legacy of Malik.
- 25:18So as we never never want to forget, we always want to remember and
- 25:26keep his legacy alive alive. Yeah, yeah, this is the book Malik's
- 25:32Fast. If you could purchase the book on Amazon, and you could also
- 25:36get in contacting with me on Facebook, Indiana bumpers on Facebook could purchase the
- 25:41book for me and the book. I also autographed the book if you purchased
- 25:45The True Me. Okay, okay, so um, what's next for Indiana
- 25:56Sweden? Where do you see your life going? Um after this? We
- 26:03know you're gonna continue to fight for justice for your not only your son,
- 26:08but every um child that's gunned down in cold blood buy a coward. But
- 26:19in the future, I'm looking for like a building, so I could because
- 26:23you know, I can bring somebody in like maybe like the council, the
- 26:27mom, the youth and speak more on violence to education. So that's great.
- 26:36That's great. So now a building, so I more everybody, UM,
- 26:45get the book. Look on her website and check out the t shirts.
- 26:49And if you're in the wand Dance New York area, buy a ticket
- 26:56to the galah And even if you're not in the area, buy a ticket
- 27:00and sponsor a young person to go to this great value of galler where they'll
- 27:07learn about gun violence and see up post and personal what gun violence does to
- 27:15a family, what gun violence does to the community. And we would like
- 27:22to congratulate Indiana Sueting on her various projects that she's working on in the community.
- 27:30We want to celebrate her for her tenacity and making sure that the Suffer
- 27:38County's detectives don't never forget Milik's name, don't let it, never let it
- 27:45become a full phase. The Keith is upfront and personal, and we want
- 27:52to thank her for her transparency and sharing what it's like to lose a child,
- 28:03but not only just lose a child, but lose that child at the
- 28:07hands of some coward. So we want to celebrate her and congratulate her for
- 28:15being able. A lot of people don't make it on this journey. We
- 28:22get placed on this journey against our will, and a lot of people don't
- 28:27make it in this club for parents who lost kids, a club that you
- 28:33never never want to be part of, but you find yourself a part of
- 28:38it, and as you go on this journey, you have so many emotions.
- 28:45But we just want to thank her for tonight, for being transparent and
- 28:51sharing a little bit of who Maligue was and what Maligue stood for. And
- 28:59as she continue news to educate youth on gun violence, we stand with her
- 29:06and this endeavor. So we thank you. We thank you for coming on
- 29:11the show tonight. The Devil tried, but how many people know that the
- 29:17devil has no power here and the name of Jesus. So we thank you
- 29:22on tonight for rocking out with Live Again podcasts and my special guests Indiana Suiting,
- 29:32and we will definitely definitely invite her bag to update us on the case
- 29:40and the progress that she's making in the wide dance community. So we thank
- 29:47we thank you again for coming on the show. We thank the audience.
- 29:52So do me a favor like this and share it and comment and gold uh
- 30:00to the Maliku's half page and like that page so that you will be cape
- 30:07updated on the events that's happening and maliks have, So do me a favor
- 30:14like and share and comment. Everybody, have a wonderful, wonderful women Wednesday,
- 30:22and remember that everything attached to you wins you tonight. You are welcome.
- 30:37You're welcome for accepting the invitation. Have a blessed, blessed night,
- 30:45and we will see you again in two weeks. We'll see you again in
- 30:49two weeks. Will I have another special guest. Good night and God bless
- 30:56us, Thank you and podcast show with your host Amma Thomas. For God
- 31:03so loved the world that it gave his only begotten son, that who shall
- 31:07ever shall believe shall not perish, but half never last team
