The Thing (1982) | Ep. 10 - Part 1
It bombed on release, savaged by critics, and is now widely held up as one of the greatest horror films ever made. John, Westy, and Matt begin the story of that remarkable reversal. In Part 1 we cover the film's opening, director John Carpenter, the cast, and the second act — including the Antarctic isolation, Kurt Russell's MacReady, and the paranoia spreading through the camp as no one knows who's human. The blood-test scene is still ahead, and it's a masterclass in tension. Part 2 runs it: crew, finale, reception, legacy. Out now.
