- 0:01Speaker 1: In this corner, standing at 6'5, weight class unknown, but
- 0:04Speaker 1: hailing from the city of sin, put your hands together
- 0:07Speaker 1: for Jamison Welch. And in this corner, standing at 5'10,
- 0:10Speaker 1: weighing in at * * * pounds, and coming to
- 0:14Speaker 1: us from his super secret bunker with no AC in Tucson, Arizona,
- 0:18Speaker 1: put your hands together for Luis Montemayor.
- 0:26Speaker 2: All right, thank you. Welcome back to another episode of
- 0:29Speaker 2: Mixed Company.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Podcast, of course.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I'm going to have the show. My name is Jameson
- 0:33Speaker 2: and always I'm joined by Luis. Luis, what's going on, man?
- 0:37Speaker 4: What's up, Jameson?
- 0:38Speaker 3: We are back to talk about the big fight from
- 0:40Speaker 3: last weekend. Ryan Garcia absolutely obliterated Conor Benn.
- 0:45Speaker 4: In round two.
- 0:46Speaker 3: But before we get into the details of that, I
- 0:48Speaker 3: want to talk about something that we mentioned last week.
- 0:50Speaker 4: You know, you're in Vegas. I'm in Tucson.
- 0:53Speaker 3: And we've talked about how Mexican Independence Day weekend, Cinco
- 0:56Speaker 3: de Mayo, when Canelo was fighting, you can feel the
- 0:58Speaker 3: vibe in Vegas. And it's just not the same when
- 1:01Speaker 3: he's not there. What was Vegas like this weekend preparing
- 1:04Speaker 3: for this Ryan Garcia fight?
- 1:06Speaker 2: It was light. It was very light, man. It was
- 1:08Speaker 2: not a big crowd. I mean, they sold out, but
- 1:11Speaker 2: it wasn't, the vibes were not high. I'll put it
- 1:14Speaker 2: that way. Like even when Canelo fought a nondescript person,
- 1:17Speaker 2: it was still like a relatively big vibe because Canelo,
- 1:21Speaker 2: Canelo's fighting. Like that's, you know, that's people's heroes. That's
- 1:24Speaker 2: people's goats. That's people, the whole thing. So that being said,
- 1:28Speaker 2: there's a certain emphasis and energy that comes with wasn't
- 1:33Speaker 2: the case this past week. It just wasn't nothing. And
- 1:35Speaker 2: there's nothing wrong with that. Cause like Ryan is not
- 1:37Speaker 2: there yet. And like Ryan is three and two in
- 1:39Speaker 2: the last five fights with a lot of weird results
- 1:42Speaker 2: mixed in. So I get it. Right. Like I understand why,
- 1:46Speaker 2: even though he's popular, but the results have been there and,
- 1:49Speaker 2: you know, Connor Ben is Connor Ben. So, Yeah, and
- 1:52Speaker 2: there was no one on the undercard that's like, oh,
- 1:55Speaker 2: this person's next. We must tune in and watch this
- 1:58Speaker 2: person because the next fight they get might be a talent.
- 2:00Speaker 2: It wasn't that either. So overall, it was very ho-hum.
- 2:03Speaker 2: But the biggest part is this. It's leading to other
- 2:07Speaker 2: ideas and other concepts, as we've seen throughout the last
- 2:11Speaker 2: week or so, that I'm really a big fan of
- 2:13Speaker 2: that they're talking about doing next Cinco de Mayo.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Yes, absolutely.
- 2:17Speaker 3: We're definitely going to get into all of that. But, yeah,
- 2:20Speaker 3: it's really interesting to note that you say that because,
- 2:22Speaker 3: I mean, we all know Ryan is a big star.
- 2:24Speaker 3: And it's crazy that Canelo is also a star, but
- 2:27Speaker 3: just in a different way, I guess.
- 2:29Speaker 4: He shines different, not even brighter. Although I do think
- 2:33Speaker 4: he does. He is a brighter star. But, yeah, it's
- 2:35Speaker 4: just really crazy to hear from somebody on the inside
- 2:38Speaker 4: just seeing the vibe in Vegas. It's really interesting.
- 2:41Speaker 3: But in terms of the actual fight, now, we've been
- 2:45Speaker 3: down on Ryan before.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Let's just be honest.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Had two losses in a no contest before his win
- 2:51Speaker 3: against Mario Barrios. And we were expecting him to just
- 2:55Speaker 3: not be a big name going forward at all. Came
- 2:58Speaker 3: back looking really good in the Mario Barrios fight. Absolutely
- 3:00Speaker 3: kicked some ass this weekend.
- 3:02Speaker 4: What do you think? Are we finally seeing the Ryan 2.0?
- 3:05Speaker 3: Do you still want to see a little bit more?
- 3:07Speaker 4: Where are we at with him?
- 3:08Speaker 2: I got to see it versus a better opponent. And
- 3:10Speaker 2: without any issues, right? So, yeah, he beat Haney, which
- 3:13Speaker 2: is fine. But he didn't because it got basically rescinded.
- 3:16Speaker 2: So I need to see him perform well versus an
- 3:18Speaker 2: opponent that is equal or better than him. When that
- 3:21Speaker 2: takes place, he puts on a good performance, then I'll
- 3:24Speaker 2: be impressed. Saturday was Saturday. He took care of business.
- 3:27Speaker 4: That's cool.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Bravo for that. But I need to see more. I
- 3:30Speaker 2: need to see more.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm a little bit more open to having
- 3:36Speaker 3: Ryan kind of be back in my good graces for sure.
- 3:39Speaker 3: But I honestly thought Conor Benn wasn't that bad of
- 3:41Speaker 3: an opponent. I definitely thought Ryan was the better fighter,
- 3:44Speaker 3: more aggressive, stronger opponent. But I thought he'd be better
- 3:49Speaker 3: on his feet and faster getting, you know, away from
- 3:52Speaker 3: the left and the right. The big thing was that
- 3:54Speaker 3: Ryan was using his right and not just his left.
- 3:57Speaker 3: He was kind of derided as a one-trick pony for.
- 3:59Speaker 4: A long time.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I just kind of expected Conor Benn to move
- 4:03Speaker 3: a lot faster, a lot better, a lot slicker. And
- 4:07Speaker 3: there was also, I'm of the opinion, actually, as one
- 4:11Speaker 3: of the commentators, I forget who it was, but someone
- 4:15Speaker 3: had said it seemed like an early stoppage by the
- 4:17Speaker 3: ref in round two when Connor Ben was getting his
- 4:19Speaker 3: ass kicked up against the ropes. But then after the
- 4:22Speaker 3: slow motion, when they replayed it, that same commentator was like, actually,
- 4:26Speaker 3: I take it back.
- 4:26Speaker 4: That's probably good. They could have done some serious damage.
- 4:29Speaker 4: And I feel the same way.
- 4:30Speaker 3: After really seeing just him getting bashed in the head
- 4:33Speaker 3: over and over. It was probably for the best. What
- 4:36Speaker 3: are your thoughts on that stoppage? So stoppage was fine. Also,
- 4:40Speaker 3: I feel like Connor Ben was drained. It felt like
- 4:42Speaker 3: somebody that really had a struggle to make weight and
- 4:44Speaker 3: is not used to being at that weight.
- 4:46Speaker 2: But he agreed to it. So when you read to it,
- 4:48Speaker 2: that's the price of business. With that being said, though,
- 4:51Speaker 2: it was like somebody that was not comfortable at that
- 4:53Speaker 2: weight at all. And they had to do a lot
- 4:56Speaker 2: and didn't have any energy to fight. With that being said,
- 4:59Speaker 2: once you sign the agreement, you sign the agreement, you
- 5:01Speaker 2: got to be prepared. But it just was not a
- 5:02Speaker 2: good showing at all. Like it felt like, I mean,
- 5:06Speaker 2: round two is what it is. Normally you get dropped
- 5:08Speaker 2: round two. It's kind of a predict, you know, kind
- 5:11Speaker 2: of indictment on your training in your camp. And that
- 5:13Speaker 2: happens with that being said, Oh, I never had to
- 5:16Speaker 2: watch Connor Ben fight again. There's nothing I need to
- 5:18Speaker 2: watch about him. There's nothing. Unless he's fighting somebody else.
- 5:21Speaker 2: That's way better than him. I don't need to watch
- 5:23Speaker 2: him fight ever again. I'm cool. That's fair. Yeah.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Like I really, I wanted, uh, you know, a really
- 5:29Speaker 3: exciting fight and, uh, I wanted him to see, I
- 5:32Speaker 3: wanted to see kind of been give Ryan a challenge, but, uh, yeah,
- 5:35Speaker 3: it was just kind of a, just fizzled out. It was,
- 5:38Speaker 3: you know, uh, I, I, I was surprised, is all
- 5:41Speaker 3: I'll say. And, yeah, I was very disappointed in how
- 5:45Speaker 3: little competition, you know, Conor Benn gave right. So I
- 5:48Speaker 3: was watching the fight at home. Ended round two was
- 5:51Speaker 3: very exciting. And typically when it ends, you know, pretty soon,
- 5:55Speaker 3: the crowd there is still super hyped because you're getting
- 5:56Speaker 3: a big knockout. But in your experience, like when somebody
- 5:59Speaker 3: just gets knocked out round two early on, you know,
- 6:02Speaker 3: are the people that are there who paid all that money?
- 6:04Speaker 3: It'll seem disappointing to me from the outside looking in.
- 6:07Speaker 4: But what are your thoughts on that?
- 6:08Speaker 2: Well, it depends on who gets dropped early. It depends
- 6:10Speaker 2: on who gets knocked down. It also depends on the situation.
- 6:14Speaker 2: So if the favorite gets knocked down, there's a buzz
- 6:18Speaker 2: that is like, it's insane. Favorite gets knocked down or
- 6:22Speaker 2: out early. If the favorite knocks down the other guy,
- 6:27Speaker 2: it's like, oh, all hell breaks loose. But people aren't
- 6:29Speaker 2: necessarily mad. It's more like, oh shit, we expect this
- 6:32Speaker 2: to happen. It's not this early. However, a lot of
- 6:35Speaker 2: people you see on TV that sit in the nice
- 6:36Speaker 2: seats are Those are comp seats. The production companies, the
- 6:41Speaker 2: promotion companies, TV networks, et cetera, they comp a lot
- 6:45Speaker 2: of seats for celebrities and stuff like that. So they're
- 6:48Speaker 2: not mad either way because they're going to a free fight, basically.
- 6:51Speaker 2: But with all that being said, yeah, man, the common
- 6:54Speaker 2: people probably a little bit pissed because they want to
- 6:57Speaker 2: see at least a five-round fight. Somebody gets dropped in
- 6:59Speaker 2: round two. That's just your guy. If your guy knocks
- 7:01Speaker 2: him out in round one and not round two, you're
- 7:03Speaker 2: not tripping. But for the most part, it's one of
- 7:05Speaker 2: those things where it depends on the situation.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you always want to get your money's worth.
- 7:09Speaker 3: And for me, you know, the fights that I've been
- 7:11Speaker 3: to when somebody gets knocked out early-ish, I do also
- 7:15Speaker 3: get kind of sucked up into the fever of like
- 7:17Speaker 3: screaming and all super excited.
- 7:20Speaker 4: So I kind of get it.
- 7:20Speaker 3: You still kind of leave with that feeling of having
- 7:22Speaker 3: seen something awesome.
- 7:23Speaker 4: So I understand.
- 7:24Speaker 3: But I can see people, especially in Vegas, people pay
- 7:27Speaker 3: a lot of money, not just for the fight, but
- 7:29Speaker 3: the travel to stay. Did you see, totally unrelated, but
- 7:33Speaker 3: Do you know anything about this Mexican guy playing The Sphere,
- 7:36Speaker 3: Karim Leon, who's there doing a residency this last few weeks?
- 7:42Speaker 2: No.
- 7:43Speaker 4: That dude canceled a show at The Sphere last week,
- 7:47Speaker 4: on like last Thursday. He was a no-show.
- 7:49Speaker 3: They announced it after everybody had sat down. And then
- 7:51Speaker 3: you see just like on TikTok over and over, Mexicans.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Saying, you know, fuck that guy. Screw him.
- 7:57Speaker 2: You know, it's... Yeah, you can't do that. You can't
- 7:59Speaker 2: pay people's money. That ain't it. Nah. Nah, not at all.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Yeah, it's one thing to cancel. I understand, you know,
- 8:04Speaker 4: shit happens. But, like, for Vegas, the sphere, for people
- 8:07Speaker 4: to travel, there are people flying from Mexico to see.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Him, you know. Yeah, that ain't it. You can't do that.
- 8:12Speaker 2: You can't.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, no, that's– and, you know, we had this
- 8:16Speaker 3: conversation with Keyshawn Davis when he just straight up didn't
- 8:18Speaker 3: make that main event fight.
- 8:21Speaker 2: At home, too. At home. Flying to Aston, it makes
- 8:24Speaker 2: it worse, right? It's one thing to do it here
- 8:26Speaker 2: or anywhere, but you at home in front of people
- 8:28Speaker 2: that know you, that grew up with you, that grew
- 8:30Speaker 2: your brand– I can't respect it. I cannot respect it.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Yeah, but sorry, that's tangent neither here nor there. But yeah,
- 8:38Speaker 3: back to Ryan. You know, the next big thing is
- 8:40Speaker 3: Ryan against Teofimo.
- 8:42Speaker 4: I'm excited. I'm excited to see. They said for Cinco
- 8:44Speaker 4: de Mayo potentially. What are your thoughts there?
- 8:48Speaker 2: It's cool. I mean, I'd rather fight somebody a little
- 8:51Speaker 2: bit better than Teofimo. But if that's the fight, that's
- 8:53Speaker 2: the fight. If that's a co-headlining fight, that's cool. Well,
- 8:57Speaker 2: I'm with it. But I know it's the business part, right?
- 9:00Speaker 2: So you got a Mexican guy going against a Puerto
- 9:01Speaker 2: Rican guy. So we know what it is. It makes
- 9:04Speaker 2: a lot of sense. It makes a lot of money.
- 9:05Speaker 2: It makes a lot of money. If for somehow, someway,
- 9:10Speaker 2: just thinking out loud, if you could somehow have the
- 9:13Speaker 2: co-headlining what they're talking about, you may put that in Allegiant,
- 9:17Speaker 2: and it does very well and makes sense. So, I mean,
- 9:20Speaker 2: if they do it at T-Mobile, that's 20,000 people. It's
- 9:23Speaker 2: a very good day for everybody involved. If somehow or
- 9:25Speaker 2: another they can pull it off, put it in Allegiant,
- 9:28Speaker 2: which I don't know if they can do it, but
- 9:29Speaker 2: if they can... It's a very big payday. It's a
- 9:32Speaker 2: lot of money, a lot of everything. I like the idea.
- 9:35Speaker 2: I like where it's going. I think we should have
- 9:37Speaker 2: more of these situations where we have co-headlining guys in
- 9:40Speaker 2: different divisions that make sense.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and speaking of that, we're hinting at that, but
- 9:46Speaker 3: David Benavidez and Ryan Garcia want to co-headline Cinco de Mayo.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Which is really interesting. You said Allegiant.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Do you really think the two of them can pull
- 9:53Speaker 4: that off and draw a big crowd at Allegiant?
- 9:56Speaker 2: So think about it. Ryan just did 20 by himself. Okay.
- 10:02Speaker 2: If Benavidez can do another 20, that's 40. Okay. You
- 10:06Speaker 2: got to fill out the card really well. I think
- 10:09Speaker 2: you can get 50 in Allegiant if the card is
- 10:12Speaker 2: very well. If the card is stacked, I don't see
- 10:15Speaker 2: an issue. Because here's the thing. Mexican people are going
- 10:17Speaker 2: to travel regardless. They're coming either way. If you make
- 10:20Speaker 2: it a great card in both of those that are fighting,
- 10:24Speaker 2: all the upper bowl stuff is going to be cheap anyway.
- 10:26Speaker 2: So that's going to be filled. I think if you
- 10:28Speaker 2: make it work, I think you can, but especially if
- 10:30Speaker 2: you market it in advance. You can't drop it in
- 10:33Speaker 2: February talking about, hey, that won't work. You market it
- 10:37Speaker 2: like a month from now, two months from now, from
- 10:39Speaker 2: Thanksgiving on, you got six months. Yeah, I think so.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I truly think so.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Interesting.
- 10:45Speaker 3: And for anybody who doesn't know, is listening, Allegiant Stadium
- 10:48Speaker 3: is the football stadium where the Raiders play in Vegas
- 10:50Speaker 3: and where Canelo versus Crawford was held.
- 10:52Speaker 4: And what's the capacity? Do you know off the top
- 10:54Speaker 4: of your head, more or less?
- 10:55Speaker 2: I know for football, it's like 65, I think. For boxing,
- 11:00Speaker 2: it can be more just for obvious reasons. I think
- 11:03Speaker 2: for WrestleMania, I think it would be the best comp.
- 11:05Speaker 2: I think it's like 70,000, I think. With all that
- 11:08Speaker 2: being said, though, it's more of just the idea, right?
- 11:11Speaker 2: You have... You have these two Mexican fighters that are
- 11:14Speaker 2: really good at what they do, and they're both big draws.
- 11:17Speaker 2: And also, David Benavidez hasn't had that one big, huge
- 11:22Speaker 2: event yet. He's put on. He's put on. He's done well,
- 11:25Speaker 2: but he hasn't had that mega event where it's like, oh,
- 11:27Speaker 2: this is better than just a fight. This is an event.
- 11:30Speaker 2: This is something that a casual person would ask somebody, hey,
- 11:34Speaker 2: what's going on there? Or, hey, who's fighting this weekend?
- 11:36Speaker 2: Who is that guy? He hasn't been a part of
- 11:39Speaker 2: those kind of nights yet. So to me, it only
- 11:41Speaker 2: makes sense to at least try it if it's available.
- 11:44Speaker 2: It may not be available. I don't know. Maybe too expensive.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I have no idea. I know next year. I know
- 11:49Speaker 2: the college football playoffs is here next year. I know
- 11:51Speaker 2: the final four is here the year after, but it
- 11:54Speaker 2: feels like they can get single to Mayo for a weekend.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I feel like that can happen.
- 12:00Speaker 3: That would be a great idea. I mean, at the
- 12:02Speaker 3: end of the day, yeah. Whether, you know, Benavidez hasn't
- 12:05Speaker 3: really had that star turn this and that it, it,
- 12:08Speaker 3: it's kind of putting the cart before the horse, but
- 12:10Speaker 3: in a good way, you are using this to hype
- 12:12Speaker 3: up these two guys, the sport, this event. And, and,
- 12:16Speaker 3: you know, yeah, Canelo and Crawford had a lot of hype.
- 12:18Speaker 3: People were talking about it for like a year. We
- 12:20Speaker 3: were talking about it for the longest time, but I
- 12:22Speaker 3: don't know. I mean, I think these guys have enough
- 12:24Speaker 3: track record where you can look back at their, you know, their,
- 12:28Speaker 3: their clips of them kicking ass in the ring. They're
- 12:30Speaker 3: both knockout guys.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Right. That actually would be a great idea.
- 12:34Speaker 2: But the car, you can't have this too, them two
- 12:37Speaker 2: at the top and there's some bullshit at the bottom.
- 12:39Speaker 2: It gotta be a full card with guys. Even if
- 12:42Speaker 2: some power, you gotta have some, you gotta have some
- 12:44Speaker 2: firepower on there where people tune in. But I just
- 12:47Speaker 2: think that it's a doable situation where one of them
- 12:50Speaker 2: can't do it by themselves, but both of them make
- 12:52Speaker 2: it a whole lot of sense. And you make it
- 12:54Speaker 2: a stack car where the next three fights under it
- 12:56Speaker 2: are really good guys where you miss the title fights.
- 12:58Speaker 2: I think you got something. I really do.
- 13:01Speaker 3: That's a really good point. And that's something I hadn't
- 13:02Speaker 3: even considered was a chance. Like, To me, in my mind,
- 13:05Speaker 3: Allegiant Stadium was a one-time thing for boxing. Twice if
- 13:11Speaker 3: there was a rematch. But you're right. I shouldn't be
- 13:13Speaker 3: thinking so small.
- 13:14Speaker 2: So think about it like this. I think it was
- 13:19Speaker 2: one time for Canelo Crawford. I didn't think they were
- 13:22Speaker 2: going to fight twice for a lot of reasons. But
- 13:26Speaker 2: that venue is always going to be there. And if
- 13:28Speaker 2: someone can draw, it's going to happen. I just think
- 13:32Speaker 2: that that's kind of where we are right now. Hell,
- 13:34Speaker 2: If Canelo fought Benavidez, you can make it at Allegiant.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I think that would be a situation where if that ever...
- 13:40Speaker 2: We don't think it's going to happen, but if that
- 13:42Speaker 2: were to happen... Canelo, to me, is a big fish.
- 13:44Speaker 2: He has two more fights left on this deal. That
- 13:47Speaker 2: last fight, who knows what he wants to do with that?
- 13:50Speaker 2: There's a lot of different options he can do, but
- 13:52Speaker 2: Allegiant's there because he's a draw. He's a guy, if
- 13:54Speaker 2: you market it enough, he's going to sell out 6,000 seats.
- 13:58Speaker 2: That's just how it goes. Even if he's past his prime.
- 14:01Speaker 2: People are still going to come and watch him fight.
- 14:03Speaker 2: That's just what it is. So personally, in my opinion,
- 14:07Speaker 2: I think that, yeah, Canelo Crawford itself, yeah, that was
- 14:12Speaker 2: a one-time deal. But I think there's other matches that
- 14:14Speaker 2: can get to that level. It's not a lot like
- 14:17Speaker 2: it was 10, 15 years ago, but I think there's
- 14:19Speaker 2: enough to where you can make it work. But I
- 14:21Speaker 2: think the card has to be good. I think we
- 14:23Speaker 2: can't just have one mega fight and a bunch of slop.
- 14:27Speaker 2: We got to have some real good matchups on paper
- 14:30Speaker 2: at least. to get the whole fan buzzing about the
- 14:33Speaker 2: whole night, not just the mega fight. Right.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Well, and, you know, I think if Canelo decides to
- 14:38Speaker 3: retire and he says, you know, this is my last
- 14:40Speaker 3: fight and it's going to be at.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Allegiant, I feel people are going to come out for it,
- 14:43Speaker 4: for the opportunity. You see the vision now. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:46Speaker 2: You see the vision. You see it now. You see it.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Now instead of 20,000 seats, now you're talking about 60,000, 65,000, 70,000.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Now you see it's an event. It's the farewell. It's
- 14:57Speaker 2: a send-off. In Vegas, where he's made a lot of money,
- 15:00Speaker 2: He's up there with all the gate records. He's up. He's,
- 15:03Speaker 2: he's on top five, top 10, all that stuff. You know, it's,
- 15:07Speaker 2: it's there. It's there. Yeah.
- 15:10Speaker 4: And did Canelo break record?
- 15:11Speaker 3: Like I think San Antonio, or it was, it was
- 15:13Speaker 3: in Texas, maybe against Billy Joe Saunders, like whatever that
- 15:16Speaker 3: fight was.
- 15:17Speaker 2: He, I mean, I know it was, I know he
- 15:19Speaker 2: fought at Dallas for the Cowboys play. I know he
- 15:21Speaker 2: did that. I know he fought in Houston with the
- 15:23Speaker 2: Astros play and minute made. So I know he's fought
- 15:26Speaker 2: in both of those before. But Allegiant, I mean, just
- 15:29Speaker 2: in Vegas alone, he has a lot of, all his
- 15:31Speaker 2: fights sell out. So all the gates do very well.
- 15:34Speaker 2: But Allegiant, if he does that again, I mean, if
- 15:37Speaker 2: that's what the farewell, where everybody will go, all the
- 15:39Speaker 2: sweets will be bought, everything, it's a no-brainer in my opinion.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm pretty sure he was like in the Dallas
- 15:48Speaker 3: area when he fought Billy Joe Saunders, and that was
- 15:50Speaker 3: supposed to be like his biggest draw ever.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it was at Cowboy Stadium.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Okay.
- 15:56Speaker 2: It was at Cowboy Stadium.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Gotcha yeah um yeah no definitely and and what's interesting
- 16:01Speaker 3: you say about you know you have a lot of
- 16:03Speaker 3: other cards or a lot of other fights on the
- 16:05Speaker 3: card that are really exciting not have bullshit this and
- 16:07Speaker 3: that but which is which is fair and very true
- 16:09Speaker 3: and gets people hyped but if i think back to
- 16:12Speaker 3: the canelo crawford fight night honestly i don't remember any
- 16:16Speaker 3: of the other fights like who was there who was
- 16:18Speaker 3: that that's the problem yeah the big the big event
- 16:22Speaker 3: you know i was like Riding high after watching that fight.
- 16:24Speaker 4: It was amazing.
- 16:25Speaker 3: You know, I'm doing the thing, the absolute cinema, Martin
- 16:28Speaker 3: Scorsese meme, but absolute wonderful fight night. But yeah, I'm
- 16:33Speaker 3: just like, I would have to look up the, the,
- 16:36Speaker 3: the fighters names.
- 16:37Speaker 4: And, you know, of course, when I see it, I'm
- 16:38Speaker 4: probably like, Oh, that's right.
- 16:39Speaker 2: This guy.
- 16:41Speaker 3: I walked out of there just with nothing but the
- 16:43Speaker 3: main event and, you know, the back of my mind. So,
- 16:46Speaker 3: but yeah, no, very, very interesting time. Speaking of David Benavidez,
- 16:50Speaker 3: you know, we had, said before that he didn't want
- 16:54Speaker 3: to fight Jaya Bataya because Jaya Bataya was with Zufa
- 16:57Speaker 3: and he had the Zufa belt. Benavidez said, I don't
- 16:59Speaker 3: want that belt. I want, you know, the legit ones,
- 17:01Speaker 3: all the other four. And we said that if Jaya
- 17:04Speaker 3: Bataya wins against Noel McAlien, that Benavidez fight has to happen. And,
- 17:08Speaker 3: you know, of course, everybody's saying, oh, Benavidez ducking, wah, wah, wah,
- 17:12Speaker 3: you know, all the chatter bullshit online. But we said, if,
- 17:16Speaker 3: if Bataya wins, that fight's got to happen. And, Yep,
- 17:19Speaker 3: sure as shit. Benavidez went in that ring and said,
- 17:21Speaker 3: you know, let's make it happen next Cinco de Mayo,
- 17:23Speaker 3: which is also very exciting to see him back anytime.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Do you think we'll see Benavidez back before the end
- 17:29Speaker 3: of this year, maybe in December? Because I think that's
- 17:31Speaker 3: enough time.
- 17:32Speaker 2: So that's the funny part. Ryan's talking about fighting before
- 17:34Speaker 2: the end of the year, which is interesting. He's talking
- 17:36Speaker 2: about fighting a tune-up and then fighting on Cinco de Mayo,
- 17:38Speaker 2: which is interesting, which is cool to me. I'm fine
- 17:40Speaker 2: with it. I like to see as many fights as possible.
- 17:43Speaker 2: So I'm cool with it. My thing is this. As
- 17:46Speaker 2: long as... the fight gets made there's no funny business
- 17:50Speaker 2: no one gets hurt i don't care about people fighting
- 17:53Speaker 2: by november december that's fine that's cool um i just
- 17:56Speaker 2: hope that whatever the plan is let's stick to the
- 17:59Speaker 2: plan let's not get to third base and let's not
- 18:01Speaker 2: get to the 11th hour and shit get canceled or
- 18:03Speaker 2: changed or whatever because that gets annoying um this would
- 18:07Speaker 2: help boxing out a lot like overall the grand scheme
- 18:10Speaker 2: even the fights are bad even the fights aren't good
- 18:12Speaker 2: the overall having a product like this is a very
- 18:16Speaker 2: good situation, especially with names that aren't household names. As
- 18:20Speaker 2: good as David Benavidez is, he's not a household name.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Ryan's a known name, but for the wrong reasons in
- 18:26Speaker 2: a lot of situations. It would be a very good
- 18:29Speaker 2: night for boxing to be able to sell at a
- 18:31Speaker 2: football stadium in America when you don't have a known
- 18:35Speaker 2: name that everybody knows about, but it's going on at
- 18:38Speaker 2: a football stadium. That would be a very, very good
- 18:40Speaker 2: night for boxing. They need that. So whatever it takes
- 18:42Speaker 2: to get that, so they both need tune-up fights, cool.
- 18:45Speaker 2: But whatever it takes, they've got to make sure they
- 18:47Speaker 2: come out with fights healthy enough where six months from there,
- 18:50Speaker 2: there could be a fight in Vegas at the League
- 18:52Speaker 2: of States. That would be the best-case scenario.
- 18:55Speaker 3: Sure, and that's surprising that Ryan is talking about coming
- 18:57Speaker 3: back so soon because there's a difference between September and fighting,
- 19:00Speaker 3: you know, again, November, December. And then Benavides hasn't fought
- 19:03Speaker 3: since May. So he's more likely, I think, to come
- 19:06Speaker 3: back before that.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Well— when you fight around half, I mean, it's light work.
- 19:09Speaker 2: You're ready to go. He didn't get hurt, so he's
- 19:13Speaker 2: in shape, so he's fine. He doesn't need a long
- 19:16Speaker 2: camp to prepare for anybody, but also, too, it's like,
- 19:20Speaker 2: the last five fights of his have not been the greatest,
- 19:22Speaker 2: so he needs to be active. The more active he is,
- 19:28Speaker 2: I think, the better, but also, like I said, even
- 19:31Speaker 2: if he fights to see a female, that's cool. We'll
- 19:34Speaker 2: see what's finalized, but Yeah, no, that would be a
- 19:38Speaker 2: really good event in May. That would be really cool. Sure.
- 19:40Speaker 3: And yeah, I guess this is a good point. Ryan
- 19:42Speaker 3: is kind of technically still on his redemption tour.
- 19:44Speaker 2: After. Yeah, man. Yeah. He was the whole year fighting
- 19:47Speaker 2: in his prime. Like that's never good. Yeah.
- 19:50Speaker 4: That's another thing too.
- 19:51Speaker 3: It's, it's not just the two, the two losses in
- 19:54Speaker 3: the no contest. It's the year of inactivity because of
- 19:56Speaker 3: suspension on top of it all. So it's just like, yeah,
- 20:00Speaker 3: I mean, I, like I said, I'm, I was very
- 20:02Speaker 3: happy to, to see him when Hank, you know, he's,
- 20:06Speaker 3: he's a force of nature when he's really focused. Um,
- 20:10Speaker 3: and I want to see more of it again, but
- 20:12Speaker 3: you know, I, I'm a fan boy. I love boxing
- 20:14Speaker 3: and I love, you know, seeing fighters, you know, get
- 20:16Speaker 3: up there and kick ass. So I'm already being like,
- 20:19Speaker 3: hell yeah, right.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 20:20Speaker 4: What's the next thing.
- 20:21Speaker 3: But in a way, like he's probably not done enough
- 20:23Speaker 3: to really get back into, you know, um, the general
- 20:26Speaker 3: public's good graces after all of that, because that.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Was a long, what, two years, I guess.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:33Speaker 4: And, uh, and you know, here's the thing. No, no
- 20:35Speaker 4: disrespect to him for losing to the tank.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Of course, you know, um, The one that I really
- 20:40Speaker 3: give him shit for was that New York Times fight
- 20:43Speaker 3: when he was snoozy.
- 20:43Speaker 4: As hell and he lost against Rowley. That shouldn't have happened, bro.
- 20:47Speaker 4: That was ridiculous.
- 20:48Speaker 2: At all.
- 20:49Speaker 3: The Haney thing with his– he won and he probably
- 20:52Speaker 3: would have won without any PEDs in the system. But
- 20:55Speaker 3: at the end of the day, it's tainted.
- 20:56Speaker 4: It's a stupid thing.
- 20:57Speaker 3: It completely derailed his whole year.
- 21:02Speaker 4: That wasn't necessary. I agree.
- 21:05Speaker 3: The tank loss he could have bounced back from pretty
- 21:07Speaker 3: easily if he came back focused, ready to kick ass,
- 21:10Speaker 3: ready to show some discipline.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Yeah, the tank loss is understandable. I mean, tanks are
- 21:16Speaker 2: better boxers, so it is what it is. But it's
- 21:19Speaker 2: the way you come back from it. Like losing the role,
- 21:21Speaker 2: he didn't get in pop with the stuff and everything.
- 21:23Speaker 2: It was just a lot of bad judgment.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Just unnecessary.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Agreed.
- 21:28Speaker 3: But yeah, I've said it before, I'll say it again.
- 21:30Speaker 3: I want him to be a dependable... I wanted him
- 21:34Speaker 3: to look good in his fights, and I wanted to
- 21:37Speaker 3: put on a great show for the fans. And, you know,
- 21:40Speaker 3: Ryan Garcia is still young, you know, a little pretty boy,
- 21:42Speaker 3: still can get a lot of new, potentially new fans
- 21:45Speaker 3: into the sport. Benavidez, too, just being an ass-kicker and
- 21:49Speaker 3: just so aggressive in the ring. You know, this is
- 21:52Speaker 3: like a perfect storm for these two guys. So I
- 21:54Speaker 3: think it's a good idea for them to be talking
- 21:56Speaker 3: about headlining, co-headlining in May.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Ryan Garcia, is he the main event or is it Benavidez?
- 22:02Speaker 4: I think it would be Ryan, right?
- 22:03Speaker 2: Benavidez. Benavidez, really? Okay. Yeah, he's a better fighter. Even
- 22:06Speaker 2: though Ryan's more popular, Benavidez is a better guy. He's
- 22:09Speaker 2: a better fighter at this stage. And he has more belt.
- 22:13Speaker 2: He would be the guy. He would be the guy
- 22:15Speaker 2: because he's the more accomplished fighter, I would say. And
- 22:19Speaker 2: he's the guy that if you had to pick who's
- 22:22Speaker 2: better at what they do, it would be Benavidez. And
- 22:25Speaker 2: that's right.
- 22:26Speaker 4: And I agree definitely.
- 22:27Speaker 3: And I would prefer Benavides to be the main event,
- 22:29Speaker 3: but I'm thinking more in terms of drawing popularity, which, uh.
- 22:32Speaker 2: I'll put it this way. Ain't no one going to
- 22:34Speaker 2: leave after Ryan's fight. Okay. It ain't going to be
- 22:37Speaker 2: a situation. You know what I mean? Where all Ryan's
- 22:39Speaker 2: never going to leave. That ain't going to be the case,
- 22:40Speaker 2: you know, and vice versa. Right. If Dave was the,
- 22:44Speaker 2: the before, like no one's going to leave after the
- 22:46Speaker 2: other fights, like everybody who's there is going to stay
- 22:48Speaker 2: with the whole fight card. Right.
- 22:51Speaker 4: That's fair.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Yeah. No. Um, I'm excited.
- 22:53Speaker 3: And speaking of, you know, we've talked already about September,
- 22:57Speaker 3: Mexican Independence Day weekend and Cinco de Mayo fight weekends.
- 23:00Speaker 3: Something that really hit me when I was watching last
- 23:02Speaker 3: weekend is that, you know, this was a Zufa event.
- 23:04Speaker 3: This was Dana White back because he had Conor Bennett
- 23:07Speaker 3: on the card.
- 23:07Speaker 4: He had J.L. Pataya on the card.
- 23:09Speaker 3: And something that we had talked about was whether, you know,
- 23:13Speaker 3: the boxing world maybe wants to make Ryan the.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Big Mexican guy for September and May.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Let's completely ignore all this crap about is Ryan Mexican enough?
- 23:22Speaker 4: Is he Spanish? Forget it. Forget it.
- 23:24Speaker 3: We're talking about can he be the guy that fights
- 23:28Speaker 3: on those two dates consistently? And there's no reason why
- 23:30Speaker 3: he can't if he keeps up the hard work. But
- 23:33Speaker 3: I realized we're talking about Ryan being placed in instead
- 23:37Speaker 3: of Canelo. But I think it's a little different than
- 23:39Speaker 3: that because Canelo is under contract with the Saudis.
- 23:42Speaker 4: He moved his fight to Halloween.
- 23:44Speaker 3: And I feel that there's a chance that– I don't
- 23:47Speaker 3: know the contract, of course, but I think there's always
- 23:49Speaker 3: a possibility. The Saudi said, we're moving you and we're
- 23:52Speaker 3: replacing you in September. Not with Ryan, but with Conor Bent.
- 23:56Speaker 3: And we're replacing you with Giant Pattaya.
- 23:57Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 23:58Speaker 2: Yeah, because here's the thing. Part of the contract, I'm
- 24:04Speaker 2: pretty sure the Saudis probably want him to fight at
- 24:06Speaker 2: least once out there. So I kind of get it.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I don't think it's more of a place in Canelo
- 24:11Speaker 2: because here's the thing. Why would you want to replace
- 24:14Speaker 2: the biggest moneymaker? You know what I mean? That doesn't
- 24:16Speaker 2: make quite sense.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Because they want to crown the new one. They want
- 24:19Speaker 3: to take... Okay, let me put it to you this way.
- 24:21Speaker 2: You're not going to sign for less money, though.
- 24:22Speaker 4: But let me put it to you this way.
- 24:24Speaker 3: So, Benavidez and Ryan, you know, they're potential new Cinco
- 24:27Speaker 3: stars and September stars. And maybe Dana White will never
- 24:31Speaker 3: sign them, but if he signs guys that guys like
- 24:33Speaker 3: those have to fight, like, why isn't... Cinco de Mayo
- 24:37Speaker 3: could be another Zufa event.
- 24:38Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 24:39Speaker 2: It could be, but here's the thing. If you're going
- 24:43Speaker 2: to make as much money as possible, which it feels
- 24:45Speaker 2: like all these promotion companies are, you're not going to
- 24:49Speaker 2: take your biggest cash cow and say, nah, especially when
- 24:53Speaker 2: it only has two fights left. It's one thing if
- 24:54Speaker 2: Canelo had 10 fights left, then I would agree with you.
- 24:57Speaker 2: That makes way more sense. But when you only got
- 24:59Speaker 2: one or two paydays left, you're trying to maximize that.
- 25:02Speaker 2: You're not going to try to not, you know, you
- 25:04Speaker 2: want to try and make as much money as possible. However, though,
- 25:07Speaker 2: with that being said, it feels like Canelo can sell
- 25:10Speaker 2: at whatever date there is. Like, there doesn't have to
- 25:12Speaker 2: be a Mexican holiday, right? Like, he can fight... On
- 25:14Speaker 2: Easter Sunday, people are going to be like, it don't matter.
- 25:17Speaker 2: But I get what you're saying. I didn't think there's
- 25:20Speaker 2: so many more years for that that you don't need
- 25:22Speaker 2: to force it, though. It feels like both Ryan and
- 25:26Speaker 2: David are both younger guys, so you don't necessarily need that,
- 25:30Speaker 2: per se. But it's interesting. It's very interesting, to say
- 25:34Speaker 2: the least. I will give you that for sure. Yeah,
- 25:37Speaker 2: I know.
- 25:37Speaker 3: And I also get what you're saying about kind of
- 25:40Speaker 3: not– making the most money possible on your cash cow,
- 25:43Speaker 3: but they already did.
- 25:44Speaker 4: I mean, and I am kind of, you.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Know, I'm throwing stuff at the wall to see what
- 25:49Speaker 3: sticks because I don't think we were ever told the
- 25:51Speaker 3: specific reason.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Why Canelo's fight was pushed back. Yeah, I don't think
- 25:55Speaker 4: so either.
- 25:56Speaker 3: There's nothing about an injury or whatever, no contract stuff.
- 25:59Speaker 3: So in my mind, I'm like, you want to plan
- 26:02Speaker 3: it for the future? And I can see in the
- 26:04Speaker 3: minds of like Dana White and the Saudis that a
- 26:06Speaker 3: September and May fight is a guaranteed moneymaker because people
- 26:10Speaker 3: show up for them. Of course, there's the nuance of
- 26:13Speaker 3: you don't have a fighter as popular as Canelo on
- 26:15Speaker 3: those dates.
- 26:15Speaker 4: You don't bring as many people out, blah, blah, blah.
- 26:17Speaker 3: But on paper, it seems like, you know, why would
- 26:22Speaker 3: the Saudis and their guy want to make Dana White,
- 26:24Speaker 3: you know, the person behind these events?
- 26:26Speaker 2: But go ahead. So it was supposed to be on
- 26:28Speaker 2: September 12th. Right. It was postponed due to personal family
- 26:31Speaker 2: matters that delayed the start of this training camp. So
- 26:34Speaker 2: it was supposed to be on the 12th. Right. So,
- 26:37Speaker 2: I mean, so, yeah, I guess, you know. I guess
- 26:40Speaker 2: that's what it was, but it is what it is.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think there's any, uh, you know,
- 26:45Speaker 2: like I said, I think they're going to try to
- 26:47Speaker 2: make as much money as possible. Here's the thing too.
- 26:50Speaker 2: They put so much money into it already. They're not
- 26:53Speaker 2: going to sacrifice a chance to some of that money back.
- 26:56Speaker 2: And they only get that money back. You know what
- 26:58Speaker 2: I mean? So I, um, but again, that's, there is
- 27:00Speaker 2: a point where you got to kind of decide on, Hey, um,
- 27:05Speaker 2: you know, what are we, what are we doing here?
- 27:07Speaker 2: Like what's, who's the next guy? So there is a,
- 27:09Speaker 2: a bit of a touch and go with that. But no,
- 27:11Speaker 2: I think if you have a chance to fight Canelo
- 27:14Speaker 2: or have a Canelo fight, you do it and you
- 27:15Speaker 2: wear everything else. Like you can put, hell, you can
- 27:18Speaker 2: put Ryan on a Canelo card if you wanted to,
- 27:20Speaker 2: like that's how, but yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:23Speaker 3: And I was talking about it because again, we're talking
- 27:25Speaker 3: about Cinco de Mayo and already Canelo is no, not
- 27:28Speaker 3: at all in that conversation, but we're going to see
- 27:30Speaker 3: what happens as we get closer to, you know, to 2027,
- 27:33Speaker 3: which is crazy that we're, we're closer to there than not.
- 27:37Speaker 4: But yeah, we wanted to keep this episode short.
- 27:39Speaker 3: So Jameson, where can people find you on social media?
