- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with her radio. It is a very special episode of
- 0:08Speaker 1: the almost Famous podcast. I'm here and my co host
- 0:12Speaker 1: the Beautiful, the Wonderful Ashley. How you doing, the Beautiful,
- 0:17Speaker 1: the Wonderful Ben Higgins? I am doing quite well today.
- 0:21Speaker 1: How are you doing? Actually? Can I tell your story?
- 0:23Speaker 1: This is just gonna start out as a ramble because
- 0:26Speaker 1: I use the word quite. I'm here to listen, Okay,
- 0:29Speaker 1: my sister is staying with me. I am the kind
- 0:32Speaker 1: of person who literally cannot stand getting rid of things
- 0:36Speaker 1: in the fridge. I hate wasting food. I hate spending
- 0:40Speaker 1: money on food when we have food in the fridge,
- 0:43Speaker 1: But mostly I hate wasting food, like you know that
- 0:46Speaker 1: little thing that your grandma would say, you know, there
- 0:48Speaker 1: are people starving in another country right now. You eat
- 0:50Speaker 1: your food always comes back to me. M hmm. And
- 0:56Speaker 1: the other day she was looking for like kind of
- 0:59Speaker 1: a a ten pm snack. You know, she'd already had dinner,
- 1:02Speaker 1: but it was early and she was hungry again. And
- 1:04Speaker 1: she was like, Ashley, came here, tell me what was
- 1:06Speaker 1: actually edible in your fridge, Like what is not outdated?
- 1:12Speaker 1: And before I tell you what, I considered not outdated.
- 1:16Speaker 1: What do you ben consider to be outdated food? Like
- 1:20Speaker 1: at what day do you stop eating leftovers? Oh, it's
- 1:23Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's a tough question. It's dependent on
- 1:25Speaker 1: what food we're talking about. Like if we're talking about, um,
- 1:29Speaker 1: if we're talking about a cheese, I'll typically look for
- 1:32Speaker 1: a mold. If we're talking about a milk, I don't
- 1:34Speaker 1: mess with milk like expired milk. If we're talking about meat,
- 1:38Speaker 1: I don't mess with expired me um, I'm I'll push
- 1:42Speaker 1: like best by date by a few days. Um, but
- 1:46Speaker 1: you can. But like those things you don't mess with.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Fruit goes bad so fast that you're either gonna eat
- 1:51Speaker 1: it or you're not. Vegetables the same thing. Um, So
- 1:54Speaker 1: you gotta give me a category because most things, like
- 1:59Speaker 1: I grew up am I like I came from a
- 2:02Speaker 1: really like like cushy life like my you know, northern
- 2:08Speaker 1: Indiana middle class um like because but we always bought
- 2:14Speaker 1: like we went to the grocery store in town that
- 2:16Speaker 1: had the like Dale bread and like it just like
- 2:19Speaker 1: it was the thing I grew up with. Is like, hey,
- 2:22Speaker 1: no matter where you're at in life, you're gonna not
- 2:24Speaker 1: like over indulge on stuff that's just just as good,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and so I've always kind of pushed it. I guess
- 2:32Speaker 1: I've never gotten sick. I don't I don't want to
- 2:33Speaker 1: do I don't want to walk to that alley. Yeah.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Like if the jelly says that it expired in April,
- 2:38Speaker 1: I'm still eating it through May. Sure. Yeah there's preserve
- 2:41Speaker 1: I mean there's preservatives in that, yeah, of course. Okay.
- 2:45Speaker 1: So what I'm talking about is like restaurant leftovers or
- 2:47Speaker 1: like you make dinner leftovers, and and if it's meat,
- 2:52Speaker 1: they probably tell you that on the internet to do
- 2:54Speaker 1: it like two to three days. I'm probably okay with
- 2:59Speaker 1: It's like if there's like chicken tenders, I'll probably throw
- 3:02Speaker 1: the chicken tenders in the air fry or four days
- 3:03Speaker 1: later and I'll make it crispy again. A right, Yeah,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I'm pushing a week on left Okay, I'm playing. Okay,
- 3:10Speaker 1: I'm glad that you said that, because I'm pushing a
- 3:12Speaker 1: week too. I probably six days. I had some Chinese
- 3:16Speaker 1: food that I got Monday and I ate it Friday,
- 3:18Speaker 1: and I wasn't feeling like that was bad. Um, so
- 3:23Speaker 1: that when I tell you that, I told her that
- 3:25Speaker 1: the spaghetti in the fridge was quite fresh, which I'll
- 3:30Speaker 1: say it probably wasn't quite fresh, but it was totally
- 3:34Speaker 1: edible and fine. How many days do you think it
- 3:37Speaker 1: was in there? Three? Okay, it was. It was made
- 3:42Speaker 1: on it was, it was made on Monday, and it
- 3:45Speaker 1: was Saturday. Yeah, six, five, five to six days, five
- 3:52Speaker 1: to six days. I mean, it's not gonna taste great.
- 3:55Speaker 1: There's nothing spaghetti. There's nothing to be poisonous. Is nothing
- 4:00Speaker 1: in a spaghetti it's cooked me. Uh, it wasn't even meat.
- 4:05Speaker 1: It just red sauce, just playing on tomato sauce. Oh
- 4:07Speaker 1: geez that. Yeah, you're you're you're You're not even cooking
- 4:11Speaker 1: with gasoline there. You're just good like you're just you're
- 4:13Speaker 1: just solid. Keep She demoralized me. She thought it was
- 4:21Speaker 1: so obscene for me to offer her my sister six
- 4:25Speaker 1: days spaghetti. I'm not offering a guest to come over
- 4:28Speaker 1: and eat my six day spaghetti, but my sister. Come on, no,
- 4:32Speaker 1: I mean no, I I would it a matter of
- 4:36Speaker 1: season of life too. Like I remember in college, my
- 4:39Speaker 1: buddies would have like pizza laying out for two full
- 4:41Speaker 1: days and I would grab a slice it would be
- 4:43Speaker 1: like hard, and the cheese would kind of be like
- 4:45Speaker 1: a plastic cover depending on what obviously company you got
- 4:49Speaker 1: your pizza from. And like, that's not even in the refrigerator.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I mean that that thing is just full of anything.
- 4:58Speaker 1: And I would found a couple of pieces of It's
- 5:00Speaker 1: a no problem. Okay, thank you so much. You know
- 5:03Speaker 1: what's really funny and kind of ironic about this, Jared
- 5:06Speaker 1: comes home from work two hours later. I come downstairs
- 5:09Speaker 1: and like, what are you doing? He's like just having
- 5:11Speaker 1: some spaghetti. And then I was like, I will join
- 5:13Speaker 1: you in that. And then he and I both ate
- 5:16Speaker 1: the five distincts day old spaghetti. How do you feel?
- 5:20Speaker 1: We feel great? And then I threw it out afterwards
- 5:22Speaker 1: the remainder and Ben, look what I got in here?
- 5:25Speaker 1: I got a little generous coffee. The generous coffee in here. Well,
- 5:30Speaker 1: I'm very thankful you're drinking generous coffee. Even if you
- 5:33Speaker 1: had an upset stomach, even if your body wasn't functioning
- 5:36Speaker 1: at a hundred percent after your six day old spaghetti,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I promise you generous coffee would kick you right back
- 5:41Speaker 1: into gear. It's it's like medicinal. I can't make that
- 5:45Speaker 1: claim probably publicly, it's public illegal, but it's good coffee. Actually,
- 5:50Speaker 1: it was a long weekend for so many people. We do, uh,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I mean I I do, and I know you do.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Want to sit here and just say, you know, I
- 5:59Speaker 1: know based on even my high school college. Um, then
- 6:04Speaker 1: we can go into the elderly people who have passed,
- 6:09Speaker 1: uh serving our country. Um, serving our country, so that
- 6:14Speaker 1: we could sit here and talk like we do and
- 6:16Speaker 1: say the things we do and even have the option
- 6:19Speaker 1: to go to a grocery store and buy food. UM.
- 6:23Speaker 1: So I hope this Memorial Day was a day for
- 6:25Speaker 1: so many of us. I know it's a chaotic time
- 6:27Speaker 1: in the world, and I know that right now, um,
- 6:30Speaker 1: the wars and the rumors of wars and our opinions
- 6:33Speaker 1: on war are have you know, definitely divided the country
- 6:38Speaker 1: or there's a lot of different things. But no matter what,
- 6:40Speaker 1: we can I think sit here and say hey, thank
- 6:43Speaker 1: you to those who are serving our country and whatever capacity,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and and and definitely a Memorial Day is a day
- 6:49Speaker 1: to recognize those who have passed serving our country and
- 6:52Speaker 1: so UM with that, I just want to say thank
- 6:55Speaker 1: you to to the families who have lost loved ones
- 6:59Speaker 1: who probably listened of this because there's many um, and
- 7:02Speaker 1: I hope yesterday was a day of celebration and remembrance
- 7:06Speaker 1: for the lives. Thank you so much, thank you, thank you,
- 7:11Speaker 1: thank you. Um Ben, do you have anybody in your
- 7:13Speaker 1: family who served in a big war? Oh yeah, I
- 7:16Speaker 1: mean you gotta think that you would be from like
- 7:19Speaker 1: a sort of military family. Yeah, well you gotta think.
- 7:22Speaker 1: We're talking like my grandpa just passed away, who was
- 7:25Speaker 1: nineties six, and so World War two, um was something
- 7:29Speaker 1: that like was not an option for most people, and
- 7:32Speaker 1: so he served in World War two. Um. One of
- 7:35Speaker 1: my best friends in high school is still serving in
- 7:38Speaker 1: the military. Um. I have Jessica's best friend's husband is
- 7:42Speaker 1: in the Navy still to this day, in a very
- 7:45Speaker 1: high ranking position. UM. But my family, yes, of course,
- 7:49Speaker 1: Like you know, you had the Vietnam War in between
- 7:52Speaker 1: World War two, um, and then you just had all
- 7:55Speaker 1: the I actually didn't have anybody close to me my family,
- 7:59Speaker 1: I think day based on age and probably choice. Uh,
- 8:03Speaker 1: you know, serve in Afghanistan. I don't know if anybody,
- 8:06Speaker 1: um who is currently in the military within my family.
- 8:10Speaker 1: But yeah, of course my grandpa is the best example.
- 8:14Speaker 1: It was a lot of his stories came from those times,
- 8:16Speaker 1: good and bad. Yes, my grandpa he fought indeed day
- 8:20Speaker 1: like he was there on the beaches of Norman Day.
- 8:22Speaker 1: And this is so crazy to think, like would I
- 8:26Speaker 1: you know you just like, would you be here? Yeah, no,
- 8:29Speaker 1: you would not be I can promise you that if
- 8:32Speaker 1: if things would have gone different. Um, so yeah, yes,
- 8:36Speaker 1: a Memorial Day is always uh a day for me
- 8:42Speaker 1: because I do I put myself in those shoes, and
- 8:44Speaker 1: I think so many people do too. If you just
- 8:45Speaker 1: take a second, like it's a it's a fun day
- 8:46Speaker 1: because we get the day off of work and you
- 8:48Speaker 1: get to cook out. And usually people travel and gather
- 8:51Speaker 1: and camp and hike and go by the pool and
- 8:53Speaker 1: this is the first day of the you know, the
- 8:54Speaker 1: lakes really open up and all that stuff. But I
- 8:57Speaker 1: oftentimes asked myself, Um, you know, I'm thirty three now,
- 9:01Speaker 1: so I'd be an old old person if I if
- 9:04Speaker 1: I went to into the military. You know, my grandpa's
- 9:06Speaker 1: like eighteen. Um that's fifteen years ago for me, and
- 9:09Speaker 1: and it just makes me think about those people who
- 9:12Speaker 1: lost lives. I'll tell you a quick story. Um that
- 9:14Speaker 1: always I'm always reminded of Amoral Day. There's an incredible
- 9:17Speaker 1: bar in New York City called mcsorley's. Mcsorley's has this story.
- 9:23Speaker 1: I think you kind of call it um a tale
- 9:27Speaker 1: because I don't know if it can be proven, but
- 9:29Speaker 1: I think there is documentation of this um. But mcsorley's
- 9:33Speaker 1: has been around. It's one of the oldest bars in
- 9:36Speaker 1: the US. UM incredibly old. I would try to say
- 9:40Speaker 1: the date, but I would have to look it up. Anyways,
- 9:43Speaker 1: before the kids in New York City went off to
- 9:46Speaker 1: war for World War One, they had these um lights
- 9:52Speaker 1: above the bar that we're connected by a pole. McSorley said, hey,
- 9:57Speaker 1: how about you come in uh and get a turkey
- 9:59Speaker 1: dinner that on the night with your families the night
- 10:01Speaker 1: before you go to war. And then everybody would take
- 10:04Speaker 1: off take out the wishbone. UM. Oh thank you. Our
- 10:08Speaker 1: producer just told us Mick Sorylis was um starting eighteen
- 10:12Speaker 1: fifty four Super Bowl. And so you'd finish your dinner,
- 10:17Speaker 1: you take the wishbone from the turkey and you put
- 10:19Speaker 1: up on um the light. You'd hang it right, you'd
- 10:23Speaker 1: put it out there so that the v attached to
- 10:25Speaker 1: the pole that the light was on. Then when you
- 10:27Speaker 1: came home from war, you could take a wishbone off.
- 10:31Speaker 1: The thing that always struck me. Uh. And and one
- 10:33Speaker 1: of the reasons why when you go to Mike Sorylers
- 10:35Speaker 1: now is there's still many wishbones on the light that
- 10:39Speaker 1: never got taken off by people not coming back from war. Um,
- 10:43Speaker 1: which was you know, it's something I don't know, it's weird.
- 10:45Speaker 1: It's like I went to this bar to have a
- 10:46Speaker 1: good drink. Uh. And that's that's always stuck with me.
- 10:49Speaker 1: A Memorial days, these kids coming in with their families
- 10:51Speaker 1: having dinner, putting it up there, some returning taken off
- 10:54Speaker 1: and some not being able to take it off. So anyways,
- 10:59Speaker 1: that is Um, yesterday was a good day from members,
- 11:02Speaker 1: a good day for cookouts. I hope everybody listening had
- 11:05Speaker 1: a great day with family or friends or just by
- 11:07Speaker 1: yourself if you just took the day um to be
- 11:10Speaker 1: by yourself. Um. Also, actually, as we do this little
- 11:15Speaker 1: host chat, it's a little more serious of a host
- 11:17Speaker 1: chat for me, um, if I could get personal, it's
- 11:22Speaker 1: been a really odd week. Uh last week. Of course,
- 11:26Speaker 1: last week it was a horrible week. It was a
- 11:27Speaker 1: horrible week, but I I am frustrated right now. Actually,
- 11:31Speaker 1: So I spent last week IM. I was invited to
- 11:33Speaker 1: an event UM in Colorado Springs. I was invited to
- 11:38Speaker 1: an event hosted by Focus on the Family. If you
- 11:40Speaker 1: know Focus on the Family. They've been around forever. UM.
- 11:44Speaker 1: They're known to be UM anti a lot of things,
- 11:49Speaker 1: a lot of things I personally, as a Christian uh
- 11:52Speaker 1: am not anti against. And I think people at this
- 11:55Speaker 1: point either really um it really either angers them or
- 11:59Speaker 1: they say, yeah, I get it. Um, I'm on that
- 12:01Speaker 1: journey of trying to figure out how to love people
- 12:03Speaker 1: better too, and I don't, you know, I don't know
- 12:05Speaker 1: always where the line is and what I should be
- 12:08Speaker 1: holding people too. And I've just kind of given up
- 12:09Speaker 1: holding people to any type of anything other than an
- 12:12Speaker 1: idea of loving others, loving themselves, and hopefully loving God.
- 12:15Speaker 1: So I was invited to this event, I think just
- 12:17Speaker 1: to they wanted to kind of share their thoughts and
- 12:20Speaker 1: where they're going and where they're at and what they're
- 12:21Speaker 1: doing with a group of people that maybe don't fully
- 12:24Speaker 1: agree with everything they're about. And I think that's really healthy.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I think it's a really good practice in life actually
- 12:30Speaker 1: is to surround yourself with people that maybe aren't always
- 12:33Speaker 1: a part of your tribe or your network. Yeah, and
- 12:37Speaker 1: I left being fairly encouraged. I won't go into the
- 12:40Speaker 1: details of the stuff they're up to, but I really
- 12:42Speaker 1: enjoyed hearing from their CEO and sitting in a room
- 12:45Speaker 1: of ten people with him and hearing where his heart's
- 12:47Speaker 1: at and where he wants to go and how he
- 12:49Speaker 1: sees the world and the things that he wants to
- 12:51Speaker 1: focus on. A lot of that is UM, outside of
- 12:54Speaker 1: anything like helping make the adoption product process more efficient
- 12:58Speaker 1: and effective for those wanting to adopt. Great thing. I
- 13:00Speaker 1: think most people, no matter where you're at, I would
- 13:04Speaker 1: agree with that process. The other one is increasing UM
- 13:07Speaker 1: the punishment for those who uh UM control and operate
- 13:13Speaker 1: uh sex trafficking rings. I think, really great, really good.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Now there's other stuff maybe I wouldn't get behind that
- 13:18Speaker 1: they're up to. UM. Again, I don't have to get
- 13:21Speaker 1: the details, but those two things I left being like, okay,
- 13:23Speaker 1: I can, we can, we can get on the same
- 13:25Speaker 1: page and those things. So I left there. I'm driving
- 13:27Speaker 1: home and I get a text Sunday afternoon, UM and
- 13:31Speaker 1: and many people who listen to the almost famous podcast
- 13:34Speaker 1: message me. And this is why I'm saying it. UM
- 13:36Speaker 1: from a home church or a church within my home
- 13:39Speaker 1: of Orsandiana where a pastor um gets up and he
- 13:43Speaker 1: admits that he's committed adultery to the congregation and um.
- 13:47Speaker 1: He kind of frames it in this way that says, hey,
- 13:49Speaker 1: I've um, I've sinned against my family. This happened when
- 13:53Speaker 1: you got home. Yeah, this happened Sunday in Warsaw, and
- 13:56Speaker 1: I got text that afternoon, I got I was at
- 13:59Speaker 1: the event in till Sunday morning in Colorado Springs or
- 14:02Speaker 1: Sunday evening, I guess, um, so having twenty four hours later,
- 14:06Speaker 1: and he says I've committed adultery. And he's framing it
- 14:09Speaker 1: as I'm admitting this into the congregation um, which I
- 14:12Speaker 1: think always comes from a place of hey, I'm a
- 14:15Speaker 1: big enough human to admit that I've messed that kind
- 14:17Speaker 1: of thing, you know, and everybody collapse. A young lady
- 14:19Speaker 1: walks up on stage and says, uh, well, he just
- 14:24Speaker 1: kind of walks out of the congregation and walks up
- 14:26Speaker 1: on her own on stage and says, yeah, what he
- 14:28Speaker 1: didn't tell you? As I was sixteen years old, when
- 14:32Speaker 1: he did this, and um, the church's reaction, I can't.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I don't want to judge the church's reaction. It was
- 14:38Speaker 1: a very odd reaction. If you've seen the video many
- 14:40Speaker 1: people have. It wasn't my reaction just then, No, it wasn't.
- 14:44Speaker 1: It was national news. Um, the reaction was confused. I
- 14:49Speaker 1: think it would be. And I talked to some people
- 14:52Speaker 1: that were part of the congregation that day and they said,
- 14:54Speaker 1: how long was he a pastor? There? For thirty five years? Um,
- 14:58Speaker 1: so he he's he's in his mid sixties at this point.
- 15:02Speaker 1: But I think the congregation was confused at what was happening.
- 15:06Speaker 1: And I have to give him that grace and be like, hey,
- 15:08Speaker 1: I know what, Like when we watched the video and
- 15:10Speaker 1: we know the truth to what was happening, we can go,
- 15:14Speaker 1: oh my gosh, how did the congregation not react in
- 15:16Speaker 1: shock and like disappointment and whatever things you want to do?
- 15:20Speaker 1: They didn't because I think they were confused at what
- 15:22Speaker 1: was being said in what was happening and if it
- 15:24Speaker 1: was um, yeah, and so it was a really hard
- 15:28Speaker 1: thing for me to see because here's the truth. And
- 15:30Speaker 1: I'll get off my soapbox in a second. I'm really
- 15:32Speaker 1: saddened this week. And then we have the SBC report,
- 15:35Speaker 1: the Southern Baptist Convention report, which many people know about.
- 15:38Speaker 1: By the way, that is not my home church. That
- 15:40Speaker 1: is not a church that I attended. I know of
- 15:42Speaker 1: it because it's in a small town of wors On, Indiana, UM,
- 15:45Speaker 1: but it is not a lot of people were wondering,
- 15:47Speaker 1: is this your church? No, not at all the church
- 15:49Speaker 1: that you're talking about with the adultery. Yeah, it is
- 15:52Speaker 1: not my church. So just to be clear, I do
- 15:54Speaker 1: know the people that work there, I do know of
- 15:56Speaker 1: the families, but it's not my church. Um that I
- 15:59Speaker 1: don't know if that makes a difference. W people are asking.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I guess they were curious. But the SPC report comes
- 16:04Speaker 1: out the Southern Baptist Convention UM, and they over their
- 16:08Speaker 1: time of power have and they have a lot of power,
- 16:10Speaker 1: a lot of political power, a lot of religious power. UM.
- 16:14Speaker 1: They've covered up uh seven cases of sexual abuse and
- 16:18Speaker 1: sexual assault within their congregations that would never spoke about
- 16:23Speaker 1: and that came out in the investigation that was just
- 16:24Speaker 1: released last week. And then obviously we have, um, the
- 16:29Speaker 1: school shooting in Texas, and I you know, it's weird
- 16:34Speaker 1: to jump on this podcast and a bit we're gonna
- 16:36Speaker 1: go through headlines. Um. I think the question I've been
- 16:39Speaker 1: asking myself this week is like, um, why what? Uh? Where?
- 16:48Speaker 1: What are we doing? I think is a lot of
- 16:51Speaker 1: um the confusion what are we doing? Where have we um?
- 16:56Speaker 1: And in both situations, the church and the shooting, where
- 17:00Speaker 1: have we neglected and pushed aside the preciousness of life?
- 17:05Speaker 1: This is not me? I hope maybe it does. Maybe
- 17:08Speaker 1: it is coming off as like a preachy thing. I
- 17:10Speaker 1: just it's like questions I want to ask, is like,
- 17:11Speaker 1: where have we gone wrong? Because we're going somewhere really wrong?
- 17:17Speaker 1: And UM, I guess as a Christian myself, I want
- 17:21Speaker 1: to know my role in that. And then also just
- 17:23Speaker 1: as a as a human, I want to know my
- 17:25Speaker 1: role in this. And so a lot of this week
- 17:28Speaker 1: has been trying to figure out when the hell is happening?
- 17:31Speaker 1: And again we this is the third time I'll make
- 17:34Speaker 1: this statement, but we jump on this podcast and we
- 17:36Speaker 1: talked about headlines, We talked about love, and we're gonna
- 17:38Speaker 1: talk about relationships that are existing within this franchise. And
- 17:41Speaker 1: you know, the franchise used to be a space where
- 17:44Speaker 1: it was kind of marketed as an escape from the
- 17:47Speaker 1: chaos that is this world. I feel like at this
- 17:49Speaker 1: point in time, though, the chaos that is this world
- 17:51Speaker 1: is is so prevalent and so necessary and so needed
- 17:55Speaker 1: that we we don't Maybe we can't. We can't afford
- 17:58Speaker 1: the escape. Uh, like none of us can. And maybe
- 18:02Speaker 1: that's my point is is like we we have to
- 18:04Speaker 1: all be a part of something bringing us together again,
- 18:09Speaker 1: because this is gother again. We we got to get together.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And it seems like every time something like this happens,
- 18:17Speaker 1: people are even pulled further apart. Yeah, and then I
- 18:20Speaker 1: don't know what we have to do to get bother
- 18:24Speaker 1: and to get together. I wish I had answers. Have
- 18:28Speaker 1: we had answers right now? Then? I guess the point
- 18:31Speaker 1: is if you're listening. I think the first step here
- 18:33Speaker 1: is if you're listening, I just know that, like, because
- 18:37Speaker 1: you have breath, you have value and you have purpose,
- 18:41Speaker 1: and that you belong and you're needed and you're necessary,
- 18:44Speaker 1: and that there's people that need you and want you
- 18:48Speaker 1: to be a place of healing and comfort and listening
- 18:50Speaker 1: and love and joy, and just know that to be true.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Then everything else that comes from this you can ask
- 18:56Speaker 1: your questions on what you think is right and wrong.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Those things are up for you to grapple within yourself,
- 19:01Speaker 1: but just ask. Just if you hear anything in this
- 19:04Speaker 1: podcast today, just leave knowing that if you have breath,
- 19:07Speaker 1: you have value, um, and that we need you here.
- 19:12Speaker 1: And if you feel super alone right now and all
- 19:17Speaker 1: of it, UM, reach out to somebody, get some support
- 19:21Speaker 1: and some help, because we just can't afford to keep
- 19:26Speaker 1: this process going. If it comes treating men and women
- 19:30Speaker 1: like their objects, when their kids, or if it is
- 19:34Speaker 1: um going into a school and murdering innocent victims that
- 19:38Speaker 1: if you look at their faces and you see their
- 19:40Speaker 1: families and their stories, UM, if you just sit in
- 19:46Speaker 1: that and you just know that, like what do you do?
- 19:50Speaker 1: What do you say? And so yeah, I guess if
- 19:53Speaker 1: you hear anything in this podcast, just know today, UM,
- 19:55Speaker 1: when we do a host chat, I'm coming from a
- 19:57Speaker 1: place of just trying to make sure that I personally,
- 20:01Speaker 1: that you know personally Ashley, and that the people listening
- 20:04Speaker 1: know that they just they got a lot of value
- 20:06Speaker 1: and uh, and we need you to be your healthiest
- 20:09Speaker 1: and best selves, um, because we just can't afford to
- 20:14Speaker 1: keep going on this path. Well, we're gonna switch big
- 20:16Speaker 1: gears here. Uh, We're going to take a break. We
- 20:20Speaker 1: do a Bachelor headlines to breakdown. A lot of them
- 20:22Speaker 1: are really I was reading through them. A lot of
- 20:24Speaker 1: them are really encouraging this week. Some really exciting things
- 20:26Speaker 1: happening with some of our friends, some people that we
- 20:28Speaker 1: love and care about. I also know that Paradise is
- 20:31Speaker 1: getting started up. I think Um being filmed. We're gonna
- 20:34Speaker 1: talk a little bit about that. So let's take a break,
- 20:37Speaker 1: come back with the almost famous podcast. We're gonna break
- 20:39Speaker 1: down Bachelor headlines. It is time for Bachelor headlines. Our
- 20:52Speaker 1: first one is a big one for for me, and
- 20:55Speaker 1: I know Ashley, Uh, you care about these people as well. Uh.
- 21:00Speaker 1: It feels less personal to me than it did with you.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Because I had a very short period of time with
- 21:10Speaker 1: Becca kou Friend hosting Bachelorive on stage. She was dating
- 21:13Speaker 1: Garrett at the time, so I got to see that
- 21:15Speaker 1: relationship and also UM was around her as that ended
- 21:21Speaker 1: right and she decided and I talked to her and
- 21:22Speaker 1: she decided to go on Paradise. I remember that conversation.
- 21:25Speaker 1: I remember when where was at When I got the
- 21:27Speaker 1: phone call. She was like, should I do it or not. Um,
- 21:31Speaker 1: you know, with you, I was sitting in the midst
- 21:34Speaker 1: of like roller coaster of love and breakups for years
- 21:38Speaker 1: and we're still doing it today. But for me, I'm
- 21:41Speaker 1: just so happy for Becca because she is somebody that
- 21:43Speaker 1: desires love once love. UH is trying to do the
- 21:47Speaker 1: best she can with the platform she's been given. And
- 21:50Speaker 1: here's the headline. Becca Kouffrin and Thomas Jacobs now are engaged.
- 21:55Speaker 1: She had the ultimate plot twist, though he said yes
- 21:58Speaker 1: this according to People magazine. Okay, well, I mean, if
- 22:02Speaker 1: you're a Bachelor fan, you're listening to this podcast, you
- 22:04Speaker 1: know that the two of them are engaged and that
- 22:06Speaker 1: she was the one that proposed. But Ben, I need
- 22:08Speaker 1: to know whether, like you are obviously closer to Becca
- 22:10Speaker 1: than I am. So have you talked to her directly?
- 22:14Speaker 1: So you didn't know that she was going to be
- 22:16Speaker 1: the one proposing. I mean, I guess you wouldn't go
- 22:18Speaker 1: around telling everybody this, But no, Um, I did text
- 22:22Speaker 1: with her yesterday. I didn't know she was going to propose.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I didn't know they were even getting engaged. I wasn't
- 22:26Speaker 1: going to be shocked just seeing how they were together
- 22:30Speaker 1: and then also, I think one of the big deals
- 22:34Speaker 1: for me, I had already planned on proposing to Jessica
- 22:38Speaker 1: during Batchel like after Bachelor I'm on stage, But that
- 22:41Speaker 1: period of life is so hard because you're on the
- 22:43Speaker 1: road and you're traveling and you're it's hectic. And when
- 22:46Speaker 1: you have a partner that like supports you and leans
- 22:50Speaker 1: in with you and relates with you, it brings you
- 22:53Speaker 1: closer together. And I think Thomas just did a great
- 22:56Speaker 1: job when Becca was on tour of being a great
- 22:58Speaker 1: partner to her, and so I had I had a
- 23:00Speaker 1: feeling this was going to happen sooner and later. I
- 23:02Speaker 1: definitely had a feeling too. I mean, she's been talking
- 23:04Speaker 1: about how she's going to marry him for a while now.
- 23:07Speaker 1: She said it in the headline she said on her
- 23:08Speaker 1: podcast she had she basically told me at your wedding,
- 23:12Speaker 1: she just kind of telling everybody at your wedding that
- 23:14Speaker 1: it was just a matter of time before it was
- 23:16Speaker 1: going to be them one day. And that was so cool,
- 23:18Speaker 1: And it's so cool that she was, you know, engaged
- 23:22Speaker 1: twice through this franchise and then decided to go on
- 23:25Speaker 1: The Bachelor in Paradise and a lot of people were like,
- 23:28Speaker 1: you know, don't quote quote downgrade yourself. You were the lead,
- 23:32Speaker 1: don't go on Bachelor in Paradise now, Well look when
- 23:34Speaker 1: they got her. That is incredible. Um. Also, I think
- 23:40Speaker 1: people started speculating that they were engaged when they went
- 23:43Speaker 1: to Hawaii, I think like a week ago, and it
- 23:45Speaker 1: just seemed like there's a vibe about their instagrams in
- 23:48Speaker 1: Hawaii that seemed like they had been engaged, that that
- 23:53Speaker 1: maybe they were getting engaged, that they had gotten engaged
- 23:55Speaker 1: in Hawaii, and then they were like going to hide
- 23:57Speaker 1: it for a few days. Um, but don't really have
- 24:00Speaker 1: details right on where it happened. He said, it's a
- 24:03Speaker 1: secret that they've been keeping between them close family and
- 24:06Speaker 1: friends for quote a while, and now we're excited to
- 24:10Speaker 1: shout it from the rooftops. I finally found my chauffeur
- 24:14Speaker 1: for life and the one who makes my heart smile
- 24:16Speaker 1: every single day. I can't wait to do it all
- 24:19Speaker 1: with you, Tommy. Thanks for making me the happiest Galt alive.
- 24:21Speaker 1: I love you to the moon and back. And yeah,
- 24:24Speaker 1: so he has an engagement ring, even has a little
- 24:27Speaker 1: dime into is an engagement ring. And she is also
- 24:31Speaker 1: wearing a ring. Yeah, I kind of like here too.
- 24:34Speaker 1: And I'm sure we are part of this group. I'm
- 24:36Speaker 1: sure we were at some point in time or I
- 24:37Speaker 1: don't know how much we we bought into the whole thing,
- 24:41Speaker 1: but you know, he his story on the Bachelorette. You
- 24:45Speaker 1: did buy into it. Men, we didn't. We know. We
- 24:48Speaker 1: were like every week we're like really like keeping get
- 24:51Speaker 1: some like some heavy proof as to why this guy's
- 24:54Speaker 1: the villain. This doesn't make any sense. We're like, these
- 24:57Speaker 1: guys just seem to be hating him for are like hearsay, okay,
- 25:02Speaker 1: well that that that makes me feel better. I'm glad
- 25:04Speaker 1: that's how we took it, because he just has really
- 25:06Speaker 1: proved the haters wrong, like he's I mean, and not
- 25:09Speaker 1: that he did got engaged Tobecca to prove him wrong.
- 25:12Speaker 1: I doubt that's the I think that's the furthest thing
- 25:13Speaker 1: from his mind right now. But if anybody was like
- 25:15Speaker 1: questioning his intentions going on the show or questioning who
- 25:19Speaker 1: he was as a person, he's now engaged one of
- 25:21Speaker 1: the most beloved people from the franchise. Uh. He has
- 25:24Speaker 1: been a tremendous partner to Becca. I know that personally
- 25:28Speaker 1: they're very very happy together. Uh. And I mean, yes,
- 25:33Speaker 1: it's been public because it is a public relationship because
- 25:36Speaker 1: they have a falling, But they haven't done things that
- 25:40Speaker 1: makes you go, wow, they're just in this for the
- 25:42Speaker 1: fame of it. No. In fact, I would say they
- 25:44Speaker 1: did the opposite, Like they broke up and then they
- 25:47Speaker 1: got back together and they've kind of dated quietly. They've
- 25:50Speaker 1: held this engagement off from telling the public for a while.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I feel like that this is like one of the
- 25:55Speaker 1: coolest stories that have came out of Paradise or the
- 25:58Speaker 1: Bachelor franchise in a long time time, and it's one
- 26:00Speaker 1: to definitely celebrate, really really cool story. And it's mind
- 26:04Speaker 1: boggling to think that they got together a year ago.
- 26:07Speaker 1: They've been dating for a year. It feels like yesterday.
- 26:11Speaker 1: It does well, Uh, speaking of couples being together or not.
- 26:17Speaker 1: The Bachelorte alum Michelle Young This is Wild refute claims
- 26:22Speaker 1: that her and Nate have split after she was spotted
- 26:25Speaker 1: without her ring. This according Las Weekly, So she was
- 26:29Speaker 1: getting drinks or lunch or something with friends and she
- 26:33Speaker 1: was spotted, like Ben said, without her ring um, and
- 26:37Speaker 1: somebody put the video on the internet. I'm not sure
- 26:40Speaker 1: whether or not they put it on the internet just
- 26:42Speaker 1: saying like, look I saw Michelle out to lunch, or
- 26:45Speaker 1: whether they were like, look I saw Michelle to lunch
- 26:47Speaker 1: and she wasn't wearing her ring. But whatever happened she
- 26:50Speaker 1: the video hit the internet and people saw that she
- 26:52Speaker 1: wasn't wearing her ring, and it caused all these rumors
- 26:55Speaker 1: that she and Nate had broken up. And then she
- 26:58Speaker 1: took to Instagram and she was like, listen, you guys,
- 27:01Speaker 1: I'm not a zoo animal. It's literally literally what she said, like,
- 27:04Speaker 1: our relationship is not like a zoo exhibit. The reason
- 27:08Speaker 1: that you see me in that video, which I can't believe,
- 27:10Speaker 1: I'm like getting on here to explain, is that I
- 27:14Speaker 1: took off my ring at that table, had my friend
- 27:18Speaker 1: put it on her finger to just see what it
- 27:20Speaker 1: looked like on her finger, because like, you know, she's
- 27:22Speaker 1: a girl, and like girls love to like put engagement
- 27:25Speaker 1: rings on her finger because like you like to pretend
- 27:26Speaker 1: like we're engaged if we're not, and we'd like to
- 27:28Speaker 1: see you know, different style rings and all that. She's like,
- 27:31Speaker 1: So if you were like caring enough to take that
- 27:35Speaker 1: video and point out the fact that I wasn't wearing
- 27:38Speaker 1: my ring that you should be like caring enough to
- 27:41Speaker 1: like make a point that I gave my ring across
- 27:44Speaker 1: the table to my friend and then put it right
- 27:46Speaker 1: back on. Yeah, so wild and so weird. Just that's small.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I mean, it feels like such a small thing for
- 27:52Speaker 1: her to have to explain. Well, hey, here's a big news.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Tasia Adams will host the MTV Movie and TV Awards.
- 28:00Speaker 1: This according to screen Ry, so this is a little
- 28:04Speaker 1: bit of a misconstrued headline. She will be hosting part
- 28:07Speaker 1: of the TV and Movie Awards. She's going to be
- 28:12Speaker 1: doing the the reality portion. I believe. Yes, she will
- 28:18Speaker 1: be hosting the MTV Movie and TV Awards unscripted, so
- 28:24Speaker 1: it'll be the component of it that covers reality TV.
- 28:28Speaker 1: But still like freaking amazing. Wow, Like, way to go, Tasia,
- 28:32Speaker 1: that is so awesome. This is Paris Hilton. This week
- 28:41Speaker 1: on the This is Paris podcast, NICKI and I will
- 28:44Speaker 1: be joined by Anna Delby. You may think you know
- 28:47Speaker 1: her from inventing Anna on Netflix. Get to know the
- 28:50Speaker 1: real Anna? Is She a con artist and a fraudster
- 28:54Speaker 1: or risk taking entrepreneur and audacious wanted that lover her
- 28:59Speaker 1: or hate her, We're all curious. The real heiresses sit
- 29:02Speaker 1: down with the fake heiress right now on This is Paris.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Listen to This is Paris Now wherever you listen to podcasts.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Well Ashley uh Here's headline about a friend beat the
- 29:16Speaker 1: Bachelor lumb beck At Tilly talks about not identifying as
- 29:19Speaker 1: a lesbian, and she dishes more on her romance with
- 29:22Speaker 1: Hailey ki Yoko after finally confirming year long, years long relationship.
- 29:28Speaker 1: This according to Daily Mail, So if you want to
- 29:31Speaker 1: hear everything in anything that Becca is willing to share
- 29:34Speaker 1: about her relationship with Haley, definitely head over to our
- 29:38Speaker 1: like I want to cast a sister podcast, um Our,
- 29:40Speaker 1: I heart our fellow, I heart podcast Scrubbing In with Beca,
- 29:43Speaker 1: Tilly and Tanya ride So. On the podcast last week,
- 29:46Speaker 1: she said, so, I was prepared for anything and everything,
- 29:49Speaker 1: you know. Um. When she revealed her relationship with her,
- 29:51Speaker 1: she goes, but I was not prepared for the amount
- 29:53Speaker 1: of love and support that we got. Haley has really
- 29:56Speaker 1: made me feel brave, and she was always like, people
- 29:59Speaker 1: love you and they want to see you happy. Um.
- 30:02Speaker 1: She also said, I've always said I'll go public. We
- 30:07Speaker 1: can go public, if I can be in one of
- 30:09Speaker 1: your videos, if I can be like the video girl. Um.
- 30:14Speaker 1: She also said that, um, it was kind of she
- 30:19Speaker 1: when the time came, she was just like, Okay, I
- 30:21Speaker 1: think I'm ready. I think it's time. And that was,
- 30:23Speaker 1: you know, four years after she had been in the relationship,
- 30:26Speaker 1: and you know, like we said last week. I think
- 30:29Speaker 1: we said this last week. Um. She never wants to
- 30:31Speaker 1: be called secret, you know, she just wanted to be
- 30:33Speaker 1: called like, the relationship is very private, and she said, like,
- 30:37Speaker 1: we've always been very much ourselves. We've held hands in public,
- 30:40Speaker 1: wee kiss if I meet someone. I always introduced Haley
- 30:43Speaker 1: as my girlfriend. I've never been like, this is my
- 30:45Speaker 1: friend or this is my best friend. I really made
- 30:47Speaker 1: an effort to make sure that there was this distinction
- 30:50Speaker 1: between private and secret. And she also said that, you know,
- 30:54Speaker 1: this is as far as what you said the headline
- 30:56Speaker 1: was saying. With her not identifying as a lesbian, she
- 30:59Speaker 1: was leading up to this point, I was like, oh
- 31:01Speaker 1: my gosh, I'm going to have to address like my sexuality,
- 31:04Speaker 1: my label, and I was never concerned with that. She says,
- 31:10Speaker 1: I think that my story is different from other people.
- 31:13Speaker 1: She talks about her sister. She's my sisters when they've
- 31:16Speaker 1: talked to me, Um, they've always said, I'm not I've
- 31:19Speaker 1: never been attracted to men because Becca's sisters are lesbians.
- 31:24Speaker 1: And she said they've always been very confident in who
- 31:27Speaker 1: they were and that label meant something to them. So
- 31:31Speaker 1: basically Becca is just not putting a label on her sexuality.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Well it's uh, you know, I remember even talking to
- 31:38Speaker 1: Colton and he's like, you know that once he came
- 31:41Speaker 1: out publicly, there's a process to try to figure it
- 31:45Speaker 1: all out, you know, figure out where you fit, what
- 31:47Speaker 1: has to change, what doesn't change. And I think what
- 31:49Speaker 1: you know Colton was telling us what we're hearing from
- 31:52Speaker 1: Becca here is like nothing about you changes or has
- 31:55Speaker 1: to change unless you wanted to. Um, I'm glad because
- 32:00Speaker 1: I love Becca. I'm glad she's a good human. Care
- 32:04Speaker 1: about her and uh it's good to see her. Um
- 32:08Speaker 1: so happy and uh at peace. Well, Ashley, that's all
- 32:14Speaker 1: the headlines we have for you today. We do have
- 32:17Speaker 1: a final little note here. Uh it's not a headline
- 32:20Speaker 1: as much as it just um this Kelly flanagain Peter
- 32:24Speaker 1: thing continues to come up, um, over and over again.
- 32:29Speaker 1: It's like once a year one of them says something
- 32:31Speaker 1: about each other, good or bad. Well right now, Kelly
- 32:35Speaker 1: Flann again says Peter Weber's romance was just fun in Games.
- 32:40Speaker 1: I didn't look at him as my spouse that this
- 32:43Speaker 1: according to US Weekly. I read this headline and I
- 32:47Speaker 1: need you to break down this story for me, and
- 32:49Speaker 1: I was like, well, okay, that's fine. They dated, they
- 32:54Speaker 1: had fun, there was a quarantine relationship, I guess, but
- 32:57Speaker 1: it's interesting to see it go to this boys like
- 33:00Speaker 1: it was just funny games. I thought for a while
- 33:03Speaker 1: it was very serious. We had him on the podcast.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I thought it was a big thing for them. Yeah,
- 33:08Speaker 1: I don't know. Okay, so she says in the podcast,
- 33:10Speaker 1: she goes, um, I don't think there was one specific
- 33:13Speaker 1: thing that led to the fall down. The downfall for
- 33:15Speaker 1: me and Peter's a lot of little things. Um. Peter
- 33:18Speaker 1: and I had a lot of fun. But I don't
- 33:20Speaker 1: know if I looked up to him in the way
- 33:22Speaker 1: that I wanted to look up to my spouse, she said. Um.
- 33:26Speaker 1: She continued to compare Pete to the men and her family.
- 33:30Speaker 1: She said, I have this with my brothers and my dad,
- 33:32Speaker 1: where if I'm in a moment where I need some
- 33:36Speaker 1: sound advice and look for and to look and look
- 33:41Speaker 1: for who to go to on important decisions, like she
- 33:45Speaker 1: goes to her dad and her brother's for important decisions.
- 33:48Speaker 1: But Peter it was just fun in games, she said.
- 33:51Speaker 1: I could have fun with him, but I wanted more
- 33:54Speaker 1: of a man that I look up to. I just
- 33:57Speaker 1: didn't look up to Peter in the way that I
- 33:59Speaker 1: always hoped that I would look up to my husband
- 34:01Speaker 1: who couch h Yeah, well that's all we have for
- 34:07Speaker 1: you today. Thank you, uh for listening to me get
- 34:11Speaker 1: something off my chest. It's been a weird week, and
- 34:14Speaker 1: this is a good place, UM where I get to
- 34:16Speaker 1: come and talk with you, Ashley and everybody listening, and
- 34:19Speaker 1: your feedback and your insights from the listeners are always
