- 0:05Speaker 1: And here we are back again for another episode of
- 0:07Speaker 1: Off the Edge with Cam Jordan with me your host,
- 0:10Speaker 1: Cam Jordan. I've got my dog, a guy who I
- 0:13Speaker 1: played with, a man who I've seen not only the passion,
- 0:16Speaker 1: the inspiration, the integrity of holding the game down and
- 0:20Speaker 1: so many different facets a pro bowler are two types
- 0:22Speaker 1: of bowl champion with two different teams.
- 0:24Speaker 2: His hometown Eagles, my New Orleans Saints. My dog.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Malcolm Jenkins played thirteen years of NFL. Founder of the
- 0:31Speaker 1: Malcolm Jenkins Foundation as well as the Broadstreet Ventures VC fund.
- 0:35Speaker 2: The man just accomplishes side quest.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I just saw him two weeks ago just taking pictures
- 0:39Speaker 1: of live game in New Orleans.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I was like, yo, oh, you came here to work work.
- 0:44Speaker 1: He's got a little photographer vest On, and I'm like, okay,
- 0:47Speaker 1: he's just accomplishing side quest.
- 0:49Speaker 2: So this is a game to him. Okay, life is
- 0:50Speaker 2: a game.
- 0:51Speaker 1: And he's bawling out of control on and off the field.
- 0:53Speaker 1: The man knows how to be relentless.
- 0:56Speaker 2: It's time for this week's Drive for Success Conversation, presented
- 0:59Speaker 2: by tailte Let's go places.
- 1:01Speaker 1: You've also got you know, beyond being an activist and
- 1:05Speaker 1: I see you on like the Wall Street Journal page
- 1:07Speaker 1: pop ups every now and again.
- 1:08Speaker 2: You've got what we call a sub stack. Sub yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:13Speaker 2: What exactly is a substack? Because I know a lot.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Of words, I'm not going to say, like, hey, I
- 1:18Speaker 1: pride myself on being knowledgeable across a board of different items,
- 1:21Speaker 1: but I feel like I am and a substack meant
- 1:23Speaker 1: absolutely nothing to me.
- 1:26Speaker 3: The subtect is just another social platform.
- 1:28Speaker 4: It's essentially a newsletter, right, so instead of it being
- 1:31Speaker 4: small captions and photos and things like that like Instagram,
- 1:34Speaker 4: it really started with a bunch of writers who do
- 1:37Speaker 4: long form essays, thought pieces, you know, poetry, all kind
- 1:41Speaker 4: of stuff like that, which is right up my alley.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Once I wrote my memoir What Winers Won't Tell You,
- 1:46Speaker 4: writing really became one of my favorite mediums to communicate,
- 1:50Speaker 4: and so I found.
- 1:51Speaker 3: I really gravitated to that platform.
- 1:54Speaker 4: After the Super Bowl in New Orleans this past year,
- 1:57Speaker 4: I got really inspired to just put my thoughts out
- 2:01Speaker 4: there on how I see the game, this new phase
- 2:04Speaker 4: of life and how I'm taking all of the experiences
- 2:07Speaker 4: I had in football and applying it to this this
- 2:10Speaker 4: new wide open frontier that is, you know, retirement from sports,
- 2:15Speaker 4: so it's.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Like Pinterest, me's Facebook for.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Yeah, you know you want to see it.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I'm like, uh, okay, okay, writers in therehod okay, okay,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I mean just beyond beyond that, Bro, I love I
- 2:30Speaker 1: love what you you're able to do. I talked about
- 2:32Speaker 1: it just that few minutes we had before the game.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I was like, Bro, you're just accomplishing side missions. What
- 2:38Speaker 1: next is on? This is on this mission list? Because
- 2:41Speaker 1: there's got to be an operative stack, like you take
- 2:44Speaker 1: over the world how slowly one paragraph at a.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Time, one paragraph at a time.
- 2:50Speaker 4: But no, I think you know, when I retired, I
- 2:52Speaker 4: really looked at the landscape, and you know, what are
- 2:55Speaker 4: the avenues for me? Posts football, and the ones I
- 2:59Speaker 4: saw common was going into coaching, going into commentating, or
- 3:05Speaker 4: guys just disappearing. You know, you're not really knowing what
- 3:07Speaker 4: they're doing, and guys are isolating and struggling. And I
- 3:12Speaker 4: just wasn't ready to go back into coaching or to
- 3:15Speaker 4: going to commentating. I knew I had the skills to
- 3:17Speaker 4: do both, but really that's not what my passion was.
- 3:20Speaker 4: I've sacrificed so much time from family, from community, and
- 3:25Speaker 4: I just something in my spirit is telling me there
- 3:27Speaker 4: there's other ways to approach this. And so really what
- 3:30Speaker 4: you see me doing now is trying to model for
- 3:33Speaker 4: guys who don't necessarily want to go in those or
- 3:36Speaker 4: can't go into those, those traditional pathways of coaching and commentating,
- 3:41Speaker 4: to figure out, like, what does life look like after this?
- 3:44Speaker 4: How do you approach the game upon your own terms?
- 3:47Speaker 4: And so you know, that's what you see when you
- 3:48Speaker 4: see me with a credential on and a photographer's best
- 3:52Speaker 4: is because I'm choosing to show up how I want
- 3:57Speaker 4: to right in this newfound passion of mind a mouth
- 4:00Speaker 4: doing sidequest, discovering passions.
- 4:02Speaker 3: And trying them out the same way.
- 4:05Speaker 4: You know, when you wanted to be really, really good
- 4:07Speaker 4: at football, you researched, you practiced, you did everything you
- 4:12Speaker 4: could to get exposed.
- 4:14Speaker 3: To it to see if it was what you really
- 4:16Speaker 3: really wanted to do.
- 4:17Speaker 4: And that's what I'm really doing and I understand that
- 4:19Speaker 4: right now for the community of retire guys that struggle
- 4:24Speaker 4: after this game, it's important to showcase that there are
- 4:28Speaker 4: other opportunities, other avenues, other interests to be involved in.
- 4:34Speaker 3: If you can't get into coaching or commentating.
- 4:39Speaker 2: You mentioned in Struggle after Retirement.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Is there any one piece of memorabilia that you wish
- 4:44Speaker 1: you would have kept and didn't once you were like,
- 4:46Speaker 1: you know, going through that stuff. Because as I'm talking
- 4:48Speaker 1: to guys that have retired, they're like, man, I had
- 4:50Speaker 1: these cliques from Super or Man I had, you know,
- 4:53Speaker 1: this first interception ball that I gave away. I wish
- 4:55Speaker 1: I would have kept that because it meant X. I
- 4:58Speaker 1: just need to know as I'm like like a crew
- 4:59Speaker 1: of my life.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Because I'm done in the next like three years for sure, Like.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Bro, here's some game.
- 5:03Speaker 4: So one of the things that I got into as
- 5:07Speaker 4: I retired seriously was collecting art. So yeah, when you
- 5:12Speaker 4: you know, you collect a bunch of art, all of
- 5:14Speaker 4: a sudden you got to get that stuff in short.
- 5:15Speaker 4: And then through that, I learned that my memorabilia collection also.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Had value, actually had more value than my art.
- 5:24Speaker 4: So all of those cleats, gloves, football's, Helman's game balls,
- 5:28Speaker 4: all of those awards have value. So definitely one take
- 5:34Speaker 4: inventory of it, keep it organized, understand what you have.
- 5:37Speaker 3: You know, some of it has more value than others.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Get it in short.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Some of those things I use now is like fundraising opportunities.
- 5:45Speaker 3: But yeah, but a lot.
- 5:46Speaker 4: Of those those important moments, those interceptions, the helmets from
- 5:52Speaker 4: Key games.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I have all of that.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Do you have the helmets of the man?
- 5:57Speaker 3: Need that?
- 5:58Speaker 2: I'm not so.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I think I try to send a jersey or something
- 6:03Speaker 1: to the parents and like I got no more, no
- 6:05Speaker 1: more space to put it.
- 6:06Speaker 2: I was like, all right, bet, and.
- 6:09Speaker 3: I'm sure you have.
- 6:10Speaker 4: I'm sure you got a ton of stuff, a ton
- 6:13Speaker 4: of you didn't give it all the way.
- 6:15Speaker 2: No, But that's just it.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I just want to know, like I'm just sort of
- 6:18Speaker 1: like gathering a list of like oh, like, man, you know,
- 6:21Speaker 1: I got like some special cleats, you know, like.
- 6:25Speaker 2: The Foundation cleats.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I've got, you know, a special pair of Jordan cleats
- 6:29Speaker 1: that you know, I just wore some all gold factory joints.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Ain't no customs, no more factory you know. I got
- 6:36Speaker 1: a couple of couple of game balls. I was I
- 6:38Speaker 1: was stacking game balls for a long time, and I
- 6:41Speaker 1: was like, what do I do with these? I've like
- 6:43Speaker 1: deflated them and now I'm gonna make like a little
- 6:45Speaker 1: mural in the weight room. I don't know, like I'm
- 6:47Speaker 1: just gonna I'm figuring out place to put them to.
- 6:51Speaker 4: But the biggest thing is to your point is one
- 6:54Speaker 4: just take inventory, Like this offseason you get a chance
- 6:57Speaker 4: literally pull it all out and see what you have.
- 7:00Speaker 4: I think you'll be surprised, especially how many years you
- 7:02Speaker 4: are right now it's fifteen.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I told you I was gonna play fifteen, and then
- 7:06Speaker 1: now're like, next year sounds good?
- 7:09Speaker 4: Maybe it doesn't, but yeah, man, that's that's one of
- 7:13Speaker 4: those things that guys don't talk about enough, is the
- 7:15Speaker 4: value of the memorabilia collections, especially as we're swapping.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Jerseys and all those things. Yeahs value.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I don't the jersey swaps. When did that start?
- 7:25Speaker 3: That was?
- 7:25Speaker 2: Has it always been around?
- 7:27Speaker 3: No? No, no, absolutely not. It would have been so
- 7:31Speaker 3: frowned upon.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Right vlogs were frowned upon swapping jersey like you lame time,
- 7:37Speaker 1: unless unless you was, like you guys were best friends,
- 7:39Speaker 1: boys like actual actual.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Like former teammates, and even then you might have swapped
- 7:46Speaker 4: like behind the scenes, not.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Not like hey, in the middle of the field, hold
- 7:51Speaker 1: that joint up, you know, like I mean it's crazy
- 7:55Speaker 1: in the locker room for sure. You know, you go
- 7:58Speaker 1: to a Pro Bowl, absolutely, hey, bro, But after a game,
- 8:02Speaker 1: I couldn't imagine twenty eleven, like, hey, bro, like remember
- 8:07Speaker 1: let's switch jerseys. No right here, let's take a picture
- 8:09Speaker 1: of it. Let's document this.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Coaches and players.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Jerseys, bro, what they would have posted us up during
- 8:17Speaker 1: the team meeting the very next day.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Look at these guys.
- 8:20Speaker 1: They're more worried about themselves than they are the team
- 8:23Speaker 1: they would like, coach, the game is over, like they
- 8:26Speaker 1: ain't none of the individuality twenty eleven, like, ain't no
- 8:29Speaker 1: way it would have been you look, look.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Do you do you like that growth though, like the
- 8:34Speaker 4: evolution of the game, and just even like like I
- 8:38Speaker 4: hear so many players now talk about like them watching
- 8:41Speaker 4: TikTok and all of those things.
- 8:43Speaker 3: It's like we would never say those things in an interview,
- 8:45Speaker 3: but it is what has grown the game at this point.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I mean I look at it like yo, Like you know,
- 8:50Speaker 1: guys used to rehearse their celebration dances. You don't let
- 8:53Speaker 1: you Lance Moore back in the day, just didn't go dance.
- 8:56Speaker 1: You had to be here's the king. The king, I say,
- 8:59Speaker 1: TikTok is a new mirror. Like you you're catching moves?
- 9:01Speaker 1: Are you making sure you got them?
- 9:03Speaker 2: So?
- 9:03Speaker 1: I understand, you know, like I may not ever get
- 9:06Speaker 1: behind it, but I got kids, and you know, now
- 9:08Speaker 1: if the kids are older, we six seven, you know,
- 9:10Speaker 1: we do all that so I can see where it
- 9:12Speaker 1: goes as a as a as a retired player. Do
- 9:15Speaker 1: you ever think about coming out of retirement as a
- 9:16Speaker 1: side mission?
- 9:18Speaker 3: No? No, that is complete, Buried. I'm good.
- 9:22Speaker 2: All right?
- 9:23Speaker 3: What about this?
- 9:24Speaker 2: What about this week?
- 9:25Speaker 1: Your former teammate, you know, O g of mind, Brandon
- 9:28Speaker 1: Brown talking about talking about I'm going to reach over
- 9:32Speaker 1: to the Eagles.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Got that knock? You got that got that call? Got
- 9:36Speaker 3: that is?
- 9:36Speaker 4: I mean, listen, it's very tempting when you know, especially
- 9:39Speaker 4: when you fresh out, when you know you still have
- 9:43Speaker 4: some snaps in you.
- 9:44Speaker 3: The team is good, you know, it's not all.
- 9:46Speaker 4: Like hanging on you. It does make it, I think
- 9:50Speaker 4: more advertising. But for me, you know, when I was done,
- 9:54Speaker 4: I was sure, I'm like this is actually no, let
- 9:58Speaker 4: me take it back.
- 9:58Speaker 3: I'm lying to my.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Saying, y'all say, yeah you are, because we talked about it.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Next year?
- 10:03Speaker 3: Is that the next year? Actually, the Eagles gave me
- 10:06Speaker 3: a call and I'm like, hey, you know, what's you
- 10:09Speaker 3: struggling in that safety? They had a bunch of injuries.
- 10:11Speaker 4: I think, uh, Deucy got hurt, and uh, you know
- 10:15Speaker 4: I would have I would have taken that call if
- 10:17Speaker 4: I was allowed to. I couldn't just come out of
- 10:19Speaker 4: retirement from the Saints and joined the Eagles, though. But
- 10:23Speaker 4: so I understand the age, especially that that first year
- 10:25Speaker 4: out before you've really like detached yourself from the game.
- 10:29Speaker 4: So it's not surprising. We had a couple of guys.
- 10:31Speaker 4: Guy retire middle of the season, so the team needs
- 10:35Speaker 4: some help. He's in the city, you know, no power
- 10:38Speaker 4: to you, right, I'll.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Say, you know they it was Zidarius retired, just up
- 10:42Speaker 1: and I seen an Instagram post and say, oh okay,
- 10:46Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, BG talked about, hey baby,
- 10:48Speaker 1: I'm back, back back.
- 10:52Speaker 2: I mean he joined the team. That's five and two.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I mean, you know, there were there were some questions
- 10:56Speaker 1: when they were sitting at you know, they lost two
- 10:58Speaker 1: games in a row, and they're like, have they figured
- 11:00Speaker 1: it out?
- 11:00Speaker 2: I mean five and two is a solid it's not.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean you know that that team.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just they have so much talent, they have
- 11:10Speaker 4: such a good you know, they have a complimentary team
- 11:13Speaker 4: that they just need to manage all of the personalities
- 11:16Speaker 4: and egos, you know media, you know in that media,
- 11:22Speaker 4: you know Arena of Philadelphia. They just need to manage
- 11:26Speaker 4: the locker room. And that was that was the case
- 11:28Speaker 4: last year. That's going to be the case this year.
- 11:30Speaker 4: They've got talent, they've got coaches. That's not the issue
- 11:32Speaker 4: at all. They've got to stay healthy and kind of
- 11:35Speaker 4: keep those blinders on absolutely.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I mean, you know, we saw the touch bush again.
- 11:40Speaker 1: How do we feel about the touch bush?
- 11:42Speaker 2: Items Like, it's a very just a jailor Hurst thing.
- 11:45Speaker 2: You saw the Minnesota Vikings have.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Like they can't do it.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Yeah, That's the funny thing is like, well, everybody's like, oh, so,
- 11:52Speaker 4: you know, criticized it, and then everybody tried it and
- 11:54Speaker 4: realized like, oh, your quarterback actually has to be able
- 11:56Speaker 4: to squat some weight for it to work.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 12:00Speaker 4: The fact that nobody's been able to really stop it,
- 12:02Speaker 4: and the fact that they have variety off of it.
- 12:04Speaker 4: You know, they got the jet sweep off of it,
- 12:05Speaker 4: they got the hard counts.
- 12:07Speaker 3: It's like they really take it to another level.
- 12:10Speaker 4: And I personally love it because I feel like it's
- 12:14Speaker 4: the most old school play that we actually have, and
- 12:16Speaker 4: the fact that it's still so as somebody who likes history,
- 12:20Speaker 4: the fact that it's so effective, like the oldest three
- 12:23Speaker 4: yards in a cloud of dust philosophy still works is beautiful.
- 12:28Speaker 1: No that I'll say, all the all the old folks
- 12:30Speaker 1: that were tune into the game should absolutely love it.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Like, hey, this is nineteen seventy, nineteen.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Sixty football right here, the original We're coming down here
- 12:38Speaker 1: you catched up. Okay, but we get it. I mean
- 12:41Speaker 1: it led to it led to a super Bowl. You know,
- 12:43Speaker 1: tell me what that's like. Do you have a favorite
- 12:44Speaker 1: super Bowl in.
- 12:48Speaker 4: I think the Eagles Super Bowl just because I played more.
- 12:51Speaker 4: I played the entire game. I played like the most,
- 12:54Speaker 4: maybe like a half and a little bit more in
- 12:59Speaker 4: my rookie year, and so in being the captain of
- 13:01Speaker 4: the team. You know, it was just I had so
- 13:03Speaker 4: much more invested in that second super Bowl than my
- 13:06Speaker 4: rookie year when I was like along for the ride
- 13:09Speaker 4: and got thrown into the fire kind of thing. But both,
- 13:12Speaker 4: you know, being able to bring the first Super Bowl
- 13:14Speaker 4: to both cities, you know, is one of those things.
- 13:17Speaker 3: That I really can't choose. It's so significant not.
- 13:21Speaker 4: Only to myself but to the city, to the fan
- 13:24Speaker 4: base that you know, it really.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Keeps me attached to both places, and both places are
- 13:32Speaker 3: home to me.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Right And now you're part of you know, history and
- 13:35Speaker 1: two different franchises, you know, Saints of course or Drew Brees.
- 13:40Speaker 1: That's got to be awesome coming as a rookie and
- 13:42Speaker 1: just have one in the bag, like, you know, I.
- 13:45Speaker 4: Thought I was gonna get you know, I thought I
- 13:46Speaker 4: was gonna get them every every couple of years.
- 13:48Speaker 3: In twenty eleven when we were close.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Man, twenty eleven my rookie year, what two thousand, even
- 13:56Speaker 1: my rookie year, I was like, oh, this this winning
- 13:58Speaker 1: thing is just natural, Like oh.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I was the best team I've ever been off.
- 14:02Speaker 1: We we want thirteen to three something like that. It
- 14:04Speaker 1: was like whatever eleven five thirty three some some something
- 14:07Speaker 1: like it just felt too easy to win when didn't
- 14:09Speaker 1: didn't win, didn't lose a home game for like two
- 14:11Speaker 1: years running, you know, like, hey, you coming here, we
- 14:13Speaker 1: lock these doors behind you.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Now you know your asses?
- 14:16Speaker 3: Yeah, now you can't leave.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Now you can't leave. In fact, thanks for the dub,
- 14:20Speaker 1: We'll let you out now, you know. That's what it
- 14:21Speaker 1: felt like. And now I'm on the other side of
- 14:24Speaker 1: things where you go from being constant having having one
- 14:28Speaker 1: of the best to ever do it. Now you're like,
- 14:29Speaker 1: all right, we're figuring out that next wave. Figuring out
- 14:31Speaker 1: the next wave is not as easy as it looks.
- 14:35Speaker 4: That's the one thing about this league, man, it's there
- 14:37Speaker 4: are windows.
- 14:39Speaker 3: And that's what makes it so so great is.
- 14:42Speaker 4: That when you know you have the locker room and
- 14:46Speaker 4: the core to get it done, you have to get
- 14:48Speaker 4: it done in that time period because you know, if
- 14:51Speaker 4: you're not successful, the regime changes. If you are successful,
- 14:55Speaker 4: people get paid and move on. So it's only a
- 14:57Speaker 4: window you know, of time that you actually have get
- 15:00Speaker 4: it done. And that's the magic of it all. That's
- 15:02Speaker 4: why you know, we have different champions every year. We
- 15:05Speaker 4: have you know, you know, different teams going from the
- 15:08Speaker 4: bottom to the top.
- 15:11Speaker 3: And that's what that's what I like about the league.
- 15:13Speaker 3: It's always competitive.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Man.
- 15:14Speaker 2: It's just like those iconic moments.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Is that like, is that feeling of like, man, two
- 15:19Speaker 1: thousand and nine, this this you know, the Super Bowl
- 15:21Speaker 1: with the with the Philadelphia they you know, the coming
- 15:24Speaker 1: back to the Saints, these iconic moments. Is that sort
- 15:26Speaker 1: of what like led you into photography or like how
- 15:28Speaker 1: does how did that work?
- 15:30Speaker 4: No, I think again, it's like how do I come
- 15:32Speaker 4: back to the game on my own terms?
- 15:35Speaker 3: And so I've been spending a lot. I've been avoiding
- 15:38Speaker 3: coming back to games.
- 15:39Speaker 4: Because I'm not I'm not a player, I'm not a coach.
- 15:42Speaker 4: I have nothing going on with you know, the outcome
- 15:45Speaker 4: of the game. You know, as a fan of the game,
- 15:48Speaker 4: like great, when it becomes I have to ask myself
- 15:50Speaker 4: like well, why are you here?
- 15:52Speaker 3: You know, like it's and you kind of feel like
- 15:54Speaker 3: you're getting paraded around.
- 15:55Speaker 4: But I think once I got behind the camera, it
- 15:58Speaker 4: started with me just taking photo with my daughter playing soccer,
- 16:02Speaker 4: and then I'm like, okay, I went to.
- 16:03Speaker 3: An MLS game. To some things, I'm like, well, I
- 16:05Speaker 3: might as.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Well do some NFL games. But what it allowed me
- 16:08Speaker 4: to do was to approach the game on my own terms,
- 16:12Speaker 4: doing something that I'd love to do from a vantage
- 16:15Speaker 4: point that I was used to, not the stands. I
- 16:17Speaker 4: can be down on the field, I'm looking at the
- 16:19Speaker 4: formation to understand what plays come in and where I
- 16:22Speaker 4: think the ball's gonna go, where I need to put
- 16:23Speaker 4: my camera. Like that just helped me use these dormant
- 16:28Speaker 4: talents and knowledge that I've had outside you know, now
- 16:31Speaker 4: used in the game that I've had a hard time
- 16:33Speaker 4: applying out in the world. This gave me the medium
- 16:36Speaker 4: and the platform to actually put that stuff to use
- 16:40Speaker 4: just for fun, just for artistic expression, just for the
- 16:43Speaker 4: sake of exploration. And I think that is an example
- 16:48Speaker 4: and I'm not the only one, but trying to leave
- 16:50Speaker 4: real life examples for guys that leave the game to
- 16:53Speaker 4: show that there are so many different avenues of which
- 16:57Speaker 4: we can interact with our game besides being a player,
- 17:01Speaker 4: a coach, or you know, commentating.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Absolutely absolutely. I was like, you got and you found
- 17:08Speaker 2: out you loved it?
- 17:09Speaker 3: Mm hmm, yeah, I mean it's it's yeah.
- 17:11Speaker 4: So it is a complimentary to It compliments my writing really,
- 17:15Speaker 4: and that's why I got into photography is my collection
- 17:18Speaker 4: of art.
- 17:18Speaker 3: I love photography.
- 17:20Speaker 4: As I started to write more, adding the things that
- 17:23Speaker 4: I'm seeing just just brightens the context for the reader.
- 17:28Speaker 3: And so yeah, it's all about storytellering for me.
- 17:30Speaker 2: As as an author, as a writer, does that you
- 17:33Speaker 2: know said is the next one? Like, so you you
- 17:35Speaker 2: obtained goals? They are critically acclaimed in that space.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Do you have the goal of shooting a Super Bowl,
- 17:40Speaker 1: Like what is what is the photography?
- 17:42Speaker 2: Is there a photography?
- 17:44Speaker 1: You know, like elevated status, like oh man, I got
- 17:47Speaker 1: to shoot this event Olympics coming up.
- 17:50Speaker 4: I think that's the thing about being an athlete that
- 17:53Speaker 4: I have that we have to shape. Sometimes it's feeling
- 17:55Speaker 4: like we have to be the best at everything in
- 17:57Speaker 4: order to in order for it to be valuable. And
- 18:01Speaker 4: for me it's like, No, the exercise of being a
- 18:04Speaker 4: rookie and things like that just give me new life
- 18:09Speaker 4: that you learn so much more about yourself, You learn
- 18:11Speaker 4: about a new craft, And I think it's more of
- 18:14Speaker 4: an exercise of a self scout than anything else.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Right, how do you get outside? What do you do
- 18:20Speaker 3: when you are uncomfortable? You're in a situation you're unsure.
- 18:25Speaker 4: How do I go back to the things that I
- 18:27Speaker 4: did when I was a rookie in the locker room
- 18:30Speaker 4: of the Saints or of things?
- 18:31Speaker 3: How did I approach the game? Who did I look
- 18:34Speaker 3: up to?
- 18:35Speaker 4: And getting used to working those muscles are important in
- 18:39Speaker 4: every genre life, whether you're trying to figure out how
- 18:43Speaker 4: to be your new dad and trying to figure out
- 18:45Speaker 4: how to make this work. It's like, well, you find
- 18:48Speaker 4: some people to look at, try some things out, read
- 18:51Speaker 4: a couple of books, get in the field and do it.
- 18:54Speaker 4: And again, I think doing those things out loud, understanding that.
- 18:58Speaker 3: I represent or that a lot of people look to
- 19:02Speaker 3: my example to follow.
- 19:05Speaker 4: I try to do it in a way that is
- 19:07Speaker 4: out loud and unconventional because I know, you know, some
- 19:11Speaker 4: avenues aren't aren't open to everybody else. And I'm completely
- 19:14Speaker 4: committed to living a life outside of the box.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Mm hmm, yeah, I don't don't. I don't know, boy,
- 19:22Speaker 1: outside of the box. I just want to be competitive
- 19:24Speaker 1: all my life, my life nature. I don't know if
- 19:27Speaker 1: I can have a self reflection like I want. I
- 19:31Speaker 1: don't know if I got that.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I need to be the best like I have. That's
- 19:35Speaker 2: an innate need. I think that's innately who I am.
- 19:38Speaker 1: It's probably why like I started up my foundation, the
- 19:40Speaker 1: cam Jordan Foundation, because I was like, yo, I had
- 19:43Speaker 1: I had everything at hand to be the best. I
- 19:45Speaker 1: went to the University of California, Berkeley. I had, you know,
- 19:48Speaker 1: I had a great dad who was able to provide
- 19:50Speaker 1: with I was like, I'm looking at it. I'm like
- 19:52Speaker 1: this next generation they you know, there's kids that want
- 19:54Speaker 1: to be the best, but they don't have the means to.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Get to college. So I focused on education.
- 19:57Speaker 1: You know, we've been able to send kids off to
- 19:59Speaker 1: college and Uianda public schools and pay for the whole tuition.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Like you know, your foundation in the Malcolm Jacobs Foundation,
- 20:05Speaker 1: you know you started, you started with your first.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Year, second year, Yeah, twenty ten, my second year in
- 20:12Speaker 3: the league. Yeah.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Yeah, you talk, you know with everything that I know
- 20:16Speaker 1: if you've you've always talked about paying affward for just
- 20:19Speaker 1: you know, the next wave as well. Just give me
- 20:22Speaker 1: in a nextdoe of you know what the foundation program has?
- 20:25Speaker 2: How has it grown since since twenty ten?
- 20:28Speaker 3: Man, we started in twenty ten, which means that this
- 20:31Speaker 3: year we'll celebrated fifteen years of work, which is longer
- 20:35Speaker 3: than I played in the league, which is when I
- 20:38Speaker 3: think about that is really mind blowing me and my mom,
- 20:42Speaker 3: she's the president of the foundation. We started in New
- 20:44Speaker 3: Orleans and expanded it to everywhere we call home.
- 20:47Speaker 4: So that was Ohio, Columbus, Ohio, Philadelphia, where I was
- 20:51Speaker 4: at playing, and then Pitscatto in New Jersey. And you
- 20:54Speaker 4: stayed in New Jersey where I'm from and being able
- 20:57Speaker 4: to expand our programs that exist in all of these markets,
- 21:02Speaker 4: regardless if I'm there or not, servicing thousands.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Of community members.
- 21:09Speaker 4: We just had an event in Philly a couple of
- 21:12Speaker 4: weeks ago where we fed about eight hundred families, and
- 21:18Speaker 4: you know, just to be able to have the support
- 21:20Speaker 4: from the community to expand our our reach across the
- 21:23Speaker 4: country to provide things like food, education services, financial literacy,
- 21:30Speaker 4: storytelling things, exposing kids to art. We do it all
- 21:33Speaker 4: like literally, all of the things that I'm doing in
- 21:35Speaker 4: my life. Journey is not just an example like hey
- 21:37Speaker 4: watch me. We're taking all of that access and pushing
- 21:41Speaker 4: it down to this next generation to let them know
- 21:44Speaker 4: that they can get these same skills, they can walk
- 21:47Speaker 4: these same paths. You don't have to be an NFL
- 21:49Speaker 4: player to do.
- 21:50Speaker 3: The side quest. Side quests are open for everybody if you.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Kind of take the time, breathe, analyze yourself about what
- 21:59Speaker 4: you like, what you do, don't try some things and
- 22:02Speaker 4: put yourself out there.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Absolutely just adding to the legacy for sure. You know,
- 22:11Speaker 1: I guess they'll say all these side missions.
- 22:13Speaker 2: You know, you think about just what you've done with
- 22:18Speaker 2: the with the VC as well, that's what you make
- 22:21Speaker 2: me mad. Well, these like I feel like I got
- 22:23Speaker 2: to step my head up, Like I'm like, you know,
- 22:25Speaker 2: I can do more. I could, I could do more.
- 22:28Speaker 3: It's definitely out there for you if you want to.
- 22:30Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 22:30Speaker 4: I think that's really that's really the biggest thing. Sometimes
- 22:33Speaker 4: we feel like things aren't available to us.
- 22:36Speaker 5: You know.
- 22:36Speaker 4: It's like, if you don't want to do it, that's
- 22:38Speaker 4: that's all good. But if you do want to get
- 22:40Speaker 4: out here, you know, I'm looking at how everybody else
- 22:45Speaker 4: makes money, you know, because we're all.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Like, okay, we want to grow generational wealth. And I
- 22:49Speaker 3: realized real quickly, you.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Have generational wealth.
- 22:53Speaker 4: No, I don't. I've got you can. We hear every
- 22:57Speaker 4: day about athletes going broke. So to say that we
- 23:00Speaker 4: have generational wealth is like, we have the potential for
- 23:03Speaker 4: generational wealth. We have a great foundation if we then
- 23:06Speaker 4: make our money work just as hard as us. But
- 23:09Speaker 4: if we don't, this money is going to run out in.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Five to ten years. And so what I had to
- 23:14Speaker 3: do is like, okay, well who is making all of
- 23:16Speaker 3: the money in the country. Who are the richest folks?
- 23:19Speaker 3: And when you look at it. They all make that.
- 23:21Speaker 3: They're not making it in stock market.
- 23:22Speaker 4: They make their money in venture capital, private equity, real estate,
- 23:26Speaker 4: and franchise. So I made sure I got in all
- 23:29Speaker 4: of them. And then when I built it, you know,
- 23:32Speaker 4: I didn't just want to do it for me. I'm like,
- 23:34Speaker 4: I know my peers need access to this stuff. These
- 23:36Speaker 4: are the things that we don't talk about a lot
- 23:38Speaker 4: in locker rooms, don't hear about a lot. So if
- 23:41Speaker 4: I'm a set it up for myself, I'm a creative
- 23:43Speaker 4: vehicle where my teammates, my peers from across the league,
- 23:47Speaker 4: across the industries can also invest with me. That's what
- 23:50Speaker 4: Broad Street Ventures is, athletes, franchise partners, and we've been
- 23:53Speaker 4: able to really build this as a community and a network,
- 23:56Speaker 4: which is the exact model that everybody else is in
- 24:00Speaker 4: this country when you talk about the top top herners.
- 24:04Speaker 4: But those are the things that we talk about.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Enough. Is building a team, you know, outside of the game.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Absolutely, especially now while I'm playing whatever it is, I
- 24:15Speaker 1: tell the guys, I'm like, hey, bro, like you've got
- 24:17Speaker 1: a lot of teammates and a lot of different things.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I was like, if you feel like you need to
- 24:21Speaker 1: learn something right now is the best idea.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Yes, When Jimmy.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Graham was in the locker room last year, I said, Bro,
- 24:28Speaker 1: I said, you should talk to him, my man, you know,
- 24:30Speaker 1: does these amazing things off the field?
- 24:33Speaker 2: Tap in if you got some business questions.
- 24:34Speaker 1: You know, you know Taysom Hill before, you know, the
- 24:37Speaker 1: seven years before he got to the NFL, you know,
- 24:39Speaker 1: on a b YU route. You know, he was working
- 24:43Speaker 1: it to be in the financial district, like Bro, Like
- 24:45Speaker 1: you have it at the palm of your hands right now.
- 24:47Speaker 1: As well as being able to leverage who you are
- 24:50Speaker 1: to get into the rooms that you want to be
- 24:51Speaker 1: in after you are who you are, not.
- 24:54Speaker 2: What's what's this? What's this?
- 24:56Speaker 1: Helmet gets peeled back and nobody really cares about the
- 24:58Speaker 1: shield that you're not rocky anymore. You know, when you
- 25:01Speaker 1: can go from Cam jordan' the Sames player to just
- 25:03Speaker 1: Cam Jordan, you should leverage Cam Jordans football player as
- 25:06Speaker 1: hard as you can, as much as you can.
- 25:09Speaker 4: Yeah, but also set up who Cam Jordan's gonna be afterwards,
- 25:13Speaker 4: because Cam Jordan's only gonna be a football player for fifteen, sixteen,
- 25:16Speaker 4: maybe seventeen years.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, it's Cam Jordan.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Gonna be Cam Jordan for a long time and eventually.
- 25:23Speaker 4: And I think that's what guys struggle with is when
- 25:26Speaker 4: you put all your chips into being just a football player,
- 25:28Speaker 4: when you are no longer a football player, you can't
- 25:30Speaker 4: go back on that field even if you wanted to.
- 25:33Speaker 3: You have to thedn't answer the question to yourself who
- 25:35Speaker 3: am I? If you haven't answered that already, it will
- 25:39Speaker 3: be stressful. And this is from experience. And I had
- 25:44Speaker 3: all the things going on and I still had that
- 25:47Speaker 3: same question, like, Okay, without this game, I've said mortar
- 25:49Speaker 3: an athlete as a cliche, but now I got to
- 25:52Speaker 3: put foot the payment. Who am I? Without the games?
- 25:57Speaker 3: And I think what you see me doing is actively
- 26:00Speaker 3: working that out.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Absolutely. Oh shoot, Like, I ain't gonna take you too
- 26:04Speaker 1: much more of your time. I appreciate you for tapping
- 26:06Speaker 1: in with me, of course, but shout out appreciate you
- 26:09Speaker 1: for everything you are. You get being inducted into I
- 26:12Speaker 1: almost forgot being inducted to the to the Eagles Hall
- 26:14Speaker 1: of Fame November twenty eighth. You guys play Caleb Williams
- 26:18Speaker 1: and the Bears in Rome, and Doonzle.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Said You've been even nothing but inspiration since I've met you.
- 26:24Speaker 2: I still have a favorite play back when it was
- 26:26Speaker 2: like twenty eleven or twelve, we played Tampa.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Bay and you walk down freaking the Vincent Jackson ju Yeah,
- 26:33Speaker 1: Junior d whatever it is, walked him down. You know,
- 26:36Speaker 1: we had we had the awesome goal line stop and
- 26:39Speaker 1: we like, hopefully they take because it's amazing.
- 26:42Speaker 2: You came forty yards from deep uh and then we
- 26:45Speaker 2: ended up.
- 26:46Speaker 3: You know, didn't you make the fourth down stop on that?
- 26:49Speaker 1: I didn't want to say there's a sequence of why
- 26:51Speaker 1: it's one of my Yeah, exactly, but appreciates you stopping
- 27:01Speaker 1: on the pod. Shout out to the Malcolm Jenkins Foundation,
- 27:04Speaker 1: the Marshallville's Kingsley, the VC Fund, the Broadstreet, the Substack,

- 27:12Speaker 3: I appreciate it, love brother.
