- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:10Speaker 1: Sophie Torber and coming up on today's show, Sophie Gwydlin's
- 0:14Speaker 1: secret marriage appears to be over, Aspen Ovard breaks her
- 0:18Speaker 1: silence on her divorce, Martha Kalafatidis and Michael Brunelli's big announcement,
- 0:24Speaker 1: and have things turned sour between Mia Plesik and a
- 0:28Speaker 1: Chapel Street bridal boutique. But first, over the weekend, Justin
- 0:32Speaker 1: and Hayley Bieber announced the arrival of their baby boy
- 0:35Speaker 1: and they're receiving a lot of praise for the name, Amy. Yeah,
- 0:39Speaker 1: I was really shocked when I saw this name drop
- 0:41Speaker 1: because listeners of the podcast will know that Kate recently
- 0:44Speaker 1: gave birth to her beautiful son, Jack, and the Biebers
- 0:48Speaker 1: have copied Kate's name. Look, Kate has started something here.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Can she take claim for that? Because I know Jack
- 0:54Speaker 1: is a popular name. It's probably, it's in the top
- 0:57Speaker 1: Australian names.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:58Speaker 1: But I did not think that a celebrity of this
- 1:02Speaker 1: nature would call their kids such a normal name. Well,
- 1:04Speaker 1: it's a very traditional name. I thought they were going
- 1:06Speaker 1: to go with something weird. His middle name is Blue.
- 1:09Speaker 1: So I think that's the celebrity aspect of the name.
- 1:11Speaker 1: But this is a family name for Justin Bieber because
- 1:14Speaker 1: his dad's middle name is Jack. And a fun fact,
- 1:18Speaker 1: all of the Biebers have the initials JB. So of course,
- 1:21Speaker 1: Justin Bieber his dad, Jeremy Bieber. He's got a half
- 1:24Speaker 1: sister called Jasmine Bieber and also a half brother called
- 1:28Speaker 1: Jackson Bieber. I think women always have a good argument
- 1:31Speaker 1: when picking names because if it's traditional and the child
- 1:34Speaker 1: is receiving the father's last name, I think that the
- 1:37Speaker 1: mother should then have say over what the middle name
- 1:40Speaker 1: and first name is because they're already getting that family name.
- 1:43Speaker 1: That's inbuilt. But in this case, Hayley didn't seem to
- 1:46Speaker 1: get either. Hey guys.
- 1:49Speaker 2: It's been a hot minute since I've been on TikTok,
- 1:51Speaker 2: but I'm relaunching myself.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Rumors are swirling that things may have turned sour between
- 1:57Speaker 1: controversial Slick Stick owner Mia Plesic and a Chapel Street
- 2:01Speaker 1: bridal boutique. The divisive influencer has allegedly been shopping around
- 2:05Speaker 1: for wedding sponsors since getting engaged in March last year. Now, Amy,
- 2:10Speaker 1: before we get into it, for any new listeners, who
- 2:12Speaker 1: is Mia? Well, Mia is a serial entrepreneur who currently
- 2:16Speaker 1: runs a beauty brand called Slick Hair and And she
- 2:19Speaker 1: first came onto the influencing scene back in 2017 when
- 2:23Speaker 1: she was beauty influencer Michael Finch's manager. And it's rumored
- 2:27Speaker 1: they had a huge falling out. Now, during the pandemic,
- 2:31Speaker 1: she came to our attention when she started supporting and
- 2:34Speaker 1: attending anti-lockdown protests. And during this time, she allegedly shared
- 2:39Speaker 1: on her Instagram account that she had planned to find
- 2:42Speaker 1: a black market doctor to sign a COVID passport for her.
- 2:45Speaker 1: So she has been very controversial over the years. Doesn't
- 2:48Speaker 1: that time just feel like so long ago? It feels
- 2:51Speaker 1: like a nightmare. Well, I keep seeing this TikTok that
- 2:53Speaker 1: says in just over four months time, 2020 will have
- 2:57Speaker 1: been five years ago. And that blows my mind. That
- 2:59Speaker 1: is crazy. Now, she also received backlash a few years
- 3:03Speaker 1: ago for conflating abortion rights with the Victorian government's COVID
- 3:07Speaker 1: lockdown and vaccine mandates. Now, Justin and Mia got engaged
- 3:11Speaker 1: in Italy in March last year. And For a bit
- 3:14Speaker 1: of background on Justin, he ran as a candidate for
- 3:17Speaker 1: Clive Palmer's United Party and this year, He faced criticism
- 3:21Speaker 1: after Mia uploaded a video of him pulling their dog
- 3:25Speaker 1: Maple away from a dog park by her ear. Now
- 3:28Speaker 1: at the time, Mia said, Maple is the most rough,
- 3:31Speaker 1: destructive dog. A little lead of the ear doesn't hurt her.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Trust me, I'd kill Justin or anyone if they hurt
- 3:37Speaker 1: my girls. Well, now that we're up to speed, Sophie,
- 3:40Speaker 1: what is fanning these rumors? Well, on June 1st, Mia
- 3:44Speaker 1: announced that work had begun on her wedding gown. So
- 3:47Speaker 1: she shared an Instagram story showing a seamstress working on
- 3:50Speaker 1: her dress. Now, it appears that the dress has been
- 3:53Speaker 1: custom made because the seamstress was working on a calico corset.
- 3:58Speaker 1: So she wrote the first prototype of my wedding gown
- 4:01Speaker 1: and tagged chambray couture in the story, but didn't specify
- 4:05Speaker 1: if this was a gifted or paid partnership. Now, generally
- 4:08Speaker 1: when an influencer tags a brand, it is because there
- 4:11Speaker 1: is some sort of partnership agreement involved. In this case,
- 4:14Speaker 1: I'm guessing it's a contra deal. So maybe the bridal
- 4:17Speaker 1: store has gifted her this gown or is loaning it
- 4:20Speaker 1: out to her in exchange for exposure on her wedding day. Now,
- 4:24Speaker 1: the branded question, as I said, is Champery Couture, which
- 4:27Speaker 1: is a bridal boutique on Chapel Street, which makes custom-made
- 4:30Speaker 1: gowns as well as ready-to-wear gowns. Now, they have over
- 4:34Speaker 1: 37,000 followers on Instagram, and I have to say their
- 4:37Speaker 1: designs are absolutely stunning. Now, what was a little unusual
- 4:41Speaker 1: is that on the 5th of August, Mia posted that
- 4:44Speaker 1: she and her family were jetting off to Saint-Tropez in
- 4:46Speaker 1: business class, of course, to embark on their European holiday
- 4:50Speaker 1: ahead of their wedding in Italy. And this was very
- 4:52Speaker 1: curious timing as it's only three months after she started
- 4:56Speaker 1: having her gown designed. Gosh, that's cutting it very fine
- 4:58Speaker 1: because most dresses would take, what, around a year to design? Yeah,
- 5:01Speaker 1: they usually recommend 10 to 12 months. So it seems
- 5:04Speaker 1: very strange to start having a custom gown made in
- 5:07Speaker 1: June if your wedding is in September, particularly if you're
- 5:11Speaker 1: leaving more than a month out from your wedding. And
- 5:14Speaker 1: because generally there'll be fittings, particularly if it's a custom gown.
- 5:18Speaker 1: So This designer must have been working around the clock
- 5:21Speaker 1: to get this gown completed in time. Well, word on
- 5:25Speaker 1: the street is that Mia has allegedly been shopping around
- 5:29Speaker 1: for wedding sponsorship deals ever since she got engaged. So
- 5:32Speaker 1: I wonder if she struggled to find a wedding dress
- 5:35Speaker 1: designer who would actually gift her a gown. And that's
- 5:38Speaker 1: why she's left it so late. Yeah, because she doesn't
- 5:40Speaker 1: have a great reputation, particularly in Melbourne. Now, last week,
- 5:44Speaker 1: Mia celebrated her bridal shower with three friends at the
- 5:47Speaker 1: Ritz in London. And she was joined by Melanie James,
- 5:49Speaker 1: who is married to Blair James, who recently sold Bondi
- 5:53Speaker 1: Sands for $ 450 million.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Wow.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Now she called it the bridal shower of her dreams
- 5:59Speaker 1: and showed herself enjoying a high tea with her friends.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Is it just me or does this kind of celebration
- 6:04Speaker 1: seem almost a little bit choogy? Because the way Mia
- 6:07Speaker 1: Plesic posts, it's like she's back in 2012 and she's
- 6:10Speaker 1: just bragging so much about having money when in reality,
- 6:14Speaker 1: I don't know if she's as wealthy as she makes out. Well,
- 6:16Speaker 1: she's one of those influencers who looks like brand names
- 6:19Speaker 1: have vomited on her. But as we have discussed in
- 6:22Speaker 1: previous episodes, most of her designer gear is fake and
- 6:26Speaker 1: she has openly spoken about that. Now, what's got a
- 6:29Speaker 1: lot of tongues wagging is since posting about her bridal
- 6:32Speaker 1: shower and her lavish couple of weeks in Europe, Champery
- 6:35Speaker 1: Couture is no longer following Mia Plesic. And this has
- 6:39Speaker 1: led to a lot of speculation that perhaps things have
- 6:42Speaker 1: turned sour with this partnership and maybe Mia isn't upholding
- 6:46Speaker 1: her side of the Contra deal. So we will to
- 6:48Speaker 1: watch this space. Well, it is a really strong message
- 6:51Speaker 1: to unfollow someone. So more must be brewing behind the scenes.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I'm just interested to see in the next few weeks
- 6:57Speaker 1: if Mia ends up wearing a shampoo couture gown to
- 7:00Speaker 1: her wedding. Yeah, well, we have to wait for a
- 7:02Speaker 1: couple of weeks to find out, but doesn't have a
- 7:04Speaker 1: good track record of upholding her side of contra deals.
- 7:07Speaker 1: So a few years ago, she was called out by
- 7:10Speaker 1: a florist called Bloom Squad Melbourne for allegedly demanding free
- 7:14Speaker 1: flowers in exchange for sponsored posts. I remember this one. Yeah.
- 7:18Speaker 1: So she held a very Instagrammable 30th birthday party. So
- 7:22Speaker 1: there were huge balloon installations. She had a life-size illustration
- 7:26Speaker 1: of herself on a media wall. I mean, as you
- 7:28Speaker 1: do at your own party. Of course. She had custom biscuits,
- 7:31Speaker 1: a bar, dessert tables, even a live illustrator. And the
- 7:35Speaker 1: theme was Capri for a day, which is quite interesting
- 7:38Speaker 1: because she is holding her wedding in Italy. And she
- 7:41Speaker 1: enlisted the help of many vendors to make this extravagant
- 7:44Speaker 1: party a reality. And she ended up sharing a post
- 7:48Speaker 1: about the party, but she failed to properly acknowledge any
- 7:52Speaker 1: of the vendors that had jumped on board as partners.
- 7:54Speaker 1: And this led Bloom Squad Melbourne to write under the post,
- 7:57Speaker 1: were you planning on thanking the small businesses who worked
- 8:00Speaker 1: for free at your party? A week later, after a
- 8:04Speaker 1: lot of back and forth, Mia then begrudgingly posted a
- 8:07Speaker 1: photo of the flowers and tagged the florist. I want
- 8:10Speaker 1: to point out that it was a fairly average post
- 8:12Speaker 1: as well. It was just a photo that had been
- 8:14Speaker 1: snapped with an iPhone and the caption was pretty subpar.
- 8:17Speaker 1: It wasn't very glowing about the florist. I mean, you'd
- 8:19Speaker 1: think if this small brand had gifted you a stunning
- 8:23Speaker 1: display of flowers, maybe you could do a walkthrough video
- 8:26Speaker 1: explaining what you'd been given and actually give the small
- 8:29Speaker 1: business some exposure, particularly because this was around the time
- 8:33Speaker 1: of the pandemic when a lot of florists were losing
- 8:35Speaker 1: work because no weddings were on, there weren't many events.
- 8:40Speaker 1: It's interesting to me that Mia acts as if she's
- 8:42Speaker 1: got so much money, but then yet everything at these
- 8:45Speaker 1: events seemed to be gifted. Yeah, exactly. It's like she's,
- 8:48Speaker 1: I mean, she's now friends with this Melanie from Bondi
- 8:51Speaker 1: Sands who legitimately is a multi-millionaire. So she seems to
- 8:55Speaker 1: have to try and keep up appearances. Now back to
- 8:58Speaker 1: this story about her 30th, The florist ended up resharing
- 9:02Speaker 1: the photo that Mia had shared and wrote, only took
- 9:05Speaker 1: a week, but we managed to finally get a tag
- 9:07Speaker 1: out of her, even though it was her bright idea.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Hope you enjoyed your free flowers. Safe to say she
- 9:13Speaker 1: is not part of our squad. What a burn. I
- 9:17Speaker 1: think sometimes these influences forget. What a huge thing this
- 9:21Speaker 1: is for some small businesses to not only donate their goods,
- 9:24Speaker 1: but it's also their time. Yeah, because they're taking time
- 9:26Speaker 1: away from other clients that they could be working with
- 9:29Speaker 1: and then potentially building on their business and making more money. Well,
- 9:32Speaker 1: the florist also alleged that a number of their vases
- 9:35Speaker 1: got smashed at this party. So it's really not a
- 9:37Speaker 1: good look for Mia. I just really wonder how many
- 9:39Speaker 1: vendors are going to come out of the woodwork following
- 9:41Speaker 1: this wedding because there really does seem to be a
- 9:43Speaker 1: bigger story brewing here. So I would keep an eye.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Out on it. Mm-hmm. Where do I start?
- 9:50Speaker 3: It's been a roller coaster.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Fitness influencer Sophie Gwydolin's secret marriage to fitness coach Nicholas
- 9:58Speaker 1: White appears to be over. Just four months after flashing
- 10:02Speaker 1: their wedding bands on social media, the pair have now
- 10:05Speaker 1: unfollowed each other. Now, we say they flashed their wedding bands,
- 10:08Speaker 1: but they also flashed us the finger around this time
- 10:10Speaker 1: as well because we had a bit of a run-in
- 10:12Speaker 1: with the pair. Well, we will get into that, but...
- 10:14Speaker 1: I want to get listeners up to speed with their
- 10:17Speaker 1: relationship timeline because this has all happened very quickly. So
- 10:21Speaker 1: Sophie and Nicholas first appeared publicly together in December last
- 10:26Speaker 1: year during a holiday to the Mid-North Coast. Now, Nicholas
- 10:30Speaker 1: is a Gold Coast personal trainer who runs Buffalo Tribe Programming.
- 10:34Speaker 1: That sounds like a fake name, Buffalo Tribe Programming. It
- 10:38Speaker 1: doesn't really roll off the tongue, does it? No. They
- 10:40Speaker 1: kept their relationship low profile until Nicola started appearing in
- 10:45Speaker 1: Sophie's YouTube videos at the start of April. And if
- 10:49Speaker 1: you remember, Amy, he was seen bringing her flowers after
- 10:52Speaker 1: her breast explant surgery. Isn't this in the same YouTube
- 10:55Speaker 1: video where Sophie just drops, oh, this is my husband
- 10:58Speaker 1: and the internet freaked out?
- 10:59Speaker 2: No.
- 11:00Speaker 1: So it was a subsequent video. So she was showing
- 11:03Speaker 1: off her bodybuilding trophies and then casually referred to him
- 11:07Speaker 1: as her husband. Let's throw to what she said. Do
- 11:10Speaker 1: you want one? I can put your name on it.
- 11:12Speaker 2: You could have best husband of the year 2024.
- 11:14Speaker 1: There was a lot of breadcrumbing going on on Instagram
- 11:18Speaker 1: as well. So Sophie and Nicholas both started wearing wedding
- 11:21Speaker 1: bands in their Instagram stories. And at the time, Amber
- 11:25Speaker 1: from Influencer Updates was reporting that acquaintances of Nicholas had
- 11:29Speaker 1: reached out to her to say the couple got married overseas.
- 11:32Speaker 1: There's lots of spies, aren't there? Now, we covered this
- 11:35Speaker 1: story back in April, Amy, as you touched on, which
- 11:38Speaker 1: led Sophie to block our accounts and also make a
- 11:41Speaker 1: bizarre rant about our segment and the general public speculating
- 11:46Speaker 1: about this marriage. Now, I want to point out that
- 11:48Speaker 1: in the segment, all we did was report on the
- 11:51Speaker 1: information that she and Nicholas chose to point out. So
- 11:55Speaker 1: she wrote, oh, the irony of the bullshit that is
- 11:58Speaker 1: social media, when you have no idea what someone is
- 12:01Speaker 1: going through, yet feel you have the right to say
- 12:03Speaker 1: your opinion on a story that you know nothing about.
- 12:06Speaker 1: She then directed this at her haters saying, judge away,
- 12:09Speaker 1: just make sure your glass house is clean and your
- 12:12Speaker 1: husband isn't one of the ones in my DMs, followed
- 12:15Speaker 1: by vomit faces. Now, this was accompanied by a hospital selfie. Now,
- 12:21Speaker 1: things didn't end there because underneath a clip of us
- 12:24Speaker 1: promoting the episode, her husband, Nicholas, well, suspected husband, Nicholas wrote,
- 12:28Speaker 1: must be nice having nothing better to do with your life.
- 12:31Speaker 1: And we chose to respond to this because I am
- 12:33Speaker 1: so sick of women's businesses being downplayed and belittled by
- 12:38Speaker 1: people like this. So we wrote, it's true, our podcast
- 12:41Speaker 1: does take up a lot of our lives, seeing as
- 12:43Speaker 1: it's one of the multiple businesses we run. Sorry, it
- 12:45Speaker 1: makes me laugh because I know Kate wrote this. I
- 12:47Speaker 1: suppose you have to put the hard work in to
- 12:49Speaker 1: crack 10 million streams. We love what we do and
- 12:53Speaker 1: think it's important to analyse influencer culture. We're not sure
- 12:56Speaker 1: why you're so upset over us discussing information your partner
- 12:59Speaker 1: so willingly shared. What a burn. I miss Kate being
- 13:02Speaker 1: involved in some of the back and forth with influencers,
- 13:04Speaker 1: but she will be back soon. Yeah, well, last week,
- 13:07Speaker 1: the rumor mill went into overdrive when Sophie and Nicholas
- 13:11Speaker 1: both unfollowed each other. Now, this wasn't only in their
- 13:15Speaker 1: own names, but they also made sure to unfollow one
- 13:18Speaker 1: another on their business profile. So the Buffalo Fitness page
- 13:21Speaker 1: got an unfollow. Now, Nick, whose account has been private
- 13:25Speaker 1: since the secret wedding rumors surfaced, has also now made
- 13:29Speaker 1: his account public. And many people are wondering if this
- 13:33Speaker 1: is because he wants to share his side of events
- 13:36Speaker 1: with Sophie's followers and the general public. It seems very
- 13:40Speaker 1: similar to when her marriage broke down only last year
- 13:44Speaker 1: with Dr. Andrew and his sister went rogue and started
- 13:48Speaker 1: releasing all this information about Sophie that didn't paint her
- 13:51Speaker 1: in a very glowing light. Well, Sophie seems to have
- 13:53Speaker 1: this effect on people, doesn't she? And she has been
- 13:55Speaker 1: appearing on her Instagram stories without her ring.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Yes.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Now, if this is true and the couple are in
- 14:01Speaker 1: fact married, this is sadly her fourth marriage breakdown. And
- 14:05Speaker 1: it comes less than 18 months after she ended her
- 14:08Speaker 1: marriage to Gold Coast dentist, Dr.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Andrew.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Now their marriage only lasted four months and they separated
- 14:15Speaker 1: after their daughter Pixie was delivered stillborn. Now you might
- 14:19Speaker 1: be wondering who else was she married to? So her
- 14:21Speaker 1: first marriage took place when she was very young. So
- 14:24Speaker 1: she grew up as a Jehovah's Witness, which might surprise
- 14:27Speaker 1: some listeners. And her next marriage was to Nathan Wallace
- 14:31Speaker 1: in 2005, who she shared a lot about on her
- 14:33Speaker 1: Instagram stories. He is the father to a couple of
- 14:35Speaker 1: her children. I've never understood why so many influencers seem
- 14:39Speaker 1: to rush into marriage, particularly when so many of them
- 14:41Speaker 1: have had such a string of failed marriages. Yeah, you
- 14:44Speaker 1: would think that you might be a bit hesitant when
- 14:46Speaker 1: it's fourth time round. I mean, we don't know the
- 14:49Speaker 1: ins and outs of this. She might be a real optimist,
- 14:52Speaker 1: but I just don't understand the need to actually get
- 14:55Speaker 1: married because It just makes things so difficult financially when
- 14:59Speaker 1: it ends badly. It just would be a complete head fuck.
- 15:03Speaker 1: And this story has been picked up by the mainstream media.
- 15:06Speaker 1: So the Daily Mail reached out to Sophie for a comment,
- 15:09Speaker 1: but she has declined to share any details with the publication.
- 15:13Speaker 1: She is currently back in hospital, though, with a mystery condition.
- 15:17Speaker 1: She wrote on Instagram, thank you for the beautiful messages.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I've taken some time offline to recharge after a recent
- 15:23Speaker 1: hospital stay. I'm back home now on the mend and
- 15:26Speaker 1: looking forward to getting back into it. Now, this would
- 15:29Speaker 1: be a very difficult time for her. We will have
- 15:31Speaker 1: to keep an eye on Nick's social media account, though,
- 15:34Speaker 1: to see if he spills the beans on what has
- 15:36Speaker 1: actually gone down. You never know. He might suddenly reach
- 15:38Speaker 1: out to us and DM us. It's not the first
- 15:40Speaker 1: time this has happened. Going to try and be a
- 15:42Speaker 1: little more. Tell me more.
- 15:49Speaker 2: What? Try and be a little more.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Demure.
- 15:54Speaker 2: I'm going to be more demure.
- 15:56Speaker 1: American YouTuber Aspen Ovard has broken her silence four months
- 16:00Speaker 1: after filing for divorce from her husband, Parker Ferris. The
- 16:04Speaker 1: divorce news shocked Aspen's followers back in April as it
- 16:07Speaker 1: coincided with the YouTuber announcing the birth of the couple's
- 16:10Speaker 1: third child. Now, Amy, a lot of people have been
- 16:14Speaker 1: waiting for Aspen to respond to the media report about
- 16:17Speaker 1: her marriage breakdown because she didn't actually break this news herself.
- 16:21Speaker 1: It started gaining momentum on gossip forums until US media
- 16:26Speaker 1: broke this story. Yeah, there has been a lot of
- 16:28Speaker 1: interest in this story because Aspen has over 2 million
- 16:32Speaker 1: followers on Instagram and also on YouTube. So for background,
- 16:36Speaker 1: Aspen is an OG beauty influencer. who now shares family
- 16:40Speaker 1: vlog style content. So she's been on YouTube for over
- 16:43Speaker 1: a decade and married Parker when she was 19. What
- 16:47Speaker 1: makes this story even more intriguing is that both Aspen
- 16:50Speaker 1: and Parker are practicing Mormons from Utah. A lot of
- 16:53Speaker 1: people were hoping that Aspen would do a sit down
- 16:56Speaker 1: Q & A on a YouTube about the divorce. but
- 16:59Speaker 1: she's opted to touch on it on TikTok. Yeah, so
- 17:02Speaker 1: she used the current demure trend to address why she
- 17:04Speaker 1: hasn't publicly talked about the divorce online, and she entitled
- 17:08Speaker 1: the video Soft Launch. Now, if you haven't heard of
- 17:11Speaker 1: the demure trend, it was made popular by TikToker Jules
- 17:15Speaker 1: Lebrun after she shared a video of her describing how
- 17:18Speaker 1: she gets ready for work in a demure way. Now,
- 17:21Speaker 1: this term is all about being cutesy, clean, and mindful,
- 17:25Speaker 1: and it's about not drawing attention to yourself with an
- 17:28Speaker 1: emphasis on being productive and navigating your life with quiet confidence.
- 17:32Speaker 1: So it is kind of tongue in cheek. Some people
- 17:34Speaker 1: will use it as a bit of a joke. Let's
- 17:36Speaker 1: have a listen to what Aspen said.
- 17:39Speaker 3: You see how I don't talk about my divorce online?
- 17:41Speaker 3: Very demure, very mindful. You see how I considered my
- 17:45Speaker 3: children and how it would affect them to have their
- 17:47Speaker 3: family's personal information shared all over the internet? Very smart,
- 17:51Speaker 3: very good mom. You see how those magazines and websites
- 17:55Speaker 3: wrote articles sharing personal information that I hadn't shared yet
- 17:58Speaker 3: when I had just given birth to a premature baby
- 18:01Speaker 3: who was in the NICU? Very trashy, very tacky.
- 18:04Speaker 1: See how I will.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Continue to stay unbothered and not share anything to protect
- 18:09Speaker 3: my peace. Very demure, very mindful, very cutesy, very peaceful.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Now this video has clocked up over 22.9 million views
- 18:21Speaker 1: at the time of recording. A day later, she shared
- 18:23Speaker 1: a video of her pretending to type vigorously on the
- 18:26Speaker 1: computer alongside the caption, me reading every single comment and
- 18:30Speaker 1: DM to see if anyone has confessed to secretly having
- 18:33Speaker 1: a crush on me over the years. and is interested
- 18:35Speaker 1: now I'm single. This also clocked up over a million views.
- 18:39Speaker 1: A few hours later, she also shared a video of
- 18:42Speaker 1: herself holding her daughter in her car with the caption,
- 18:45Speaker 1: me in 20 years when I get paid $ 10 million
- 18:48Speaker 1: to do a tell-all. And she mimed to this clip.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Part 37, who the fuck did I marry? So at
- 18:56Speaker 1: this point in time, I have filed for divorce. She
- 18:59Speaker 1: captioned the TikTok, I'm not going to share details, but
- 19:02Speaker 1: I am going to make jokes. Oh, please share the details.
- 19:04Speaker 1: You can't just breadcrumb us like this. We need to
- 19:07Speaker 1: know what has gone on and we're not going to
- 19:08Speaker 1: care in 20 years' time. We want to know now.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I think it's a clever way for her to address
- 19:13Speaker 1: the rumours without really having to touch on them too
- 19:16Speaker 1: deeply because... She's been able to confirm to the world
- 19:19Speaker 1: that she is single. But she's also basically said, what
- 19:22Speaker 1: the fuck was this guy? It infers that there's more
- 19:25Speaker 1: to the story though. Oh, it 100% infers there's more
- 19:28Speaker 1: to the story. If Molly Mae pulls this shit, I
- 19:31Speaker 1: will be so fucking unhappy. I think it's kind of
- 19:33Speaker 1: classy though because she's been able to say, look, my
- 19:36Speaker 1: husband obviously has done me wrong, but I'm too demure.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I'm too classy to talk about it. But in reality,
- 19:42Speaker 1: I don't like this because she's a YouTuber. She has shared,
- 19:45Speaker 1: herself giving birth. We know all the ins and outs.
- 19:48Speaker 1: We can't be there for all of the good. times
- 19:50Speaker 1: and then not be let in on the bad times.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I think we deserve to know what's gone down. Well,
- 19:54Speaker 1: that's the only thing I worry about because these clips
- 19:56Speaker 1: are a bit of a tease for her devoted followers.
- 19:59Speaker 1: And we've spoken about it before, how some fans will
- 20:01Speaker 1: then turn against that YouTuber that they love and they'll
- 20:04Speaker 1: start to create. Yeah, and I think there's a lot
- 20:07Speaker 1: of that going online right now. I think this will
- 20:09Speaker 1: be a real problem for her, particularly when you look
- 20:11Speaker 1: at the fact that a fan came across Aspen's divorce papers.
- 20:15Speaker 1: This is how it all came out. A fan posted
- 20:17Speaker 1: it on Reddit and that's where the media picked up
- 20:19Speaker 1: on it. Well, they're going to find out what's happened,
- 20:21Speaker 1: isn't it, these followers, one way or another. Can I.
- 20:25Speaker 2: fix this so the angle isn't so shocking and I
- 20:28Speaker 2: don't look like Lord Farquaad.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Martha Califatidis and Michael Brunelli have announced they're starting a
- 20:34Speaker 1: new family series with Martha's mum, Mary. So Mary appeared
- 20:39Speaker 1: on Big Brother back in 2021 and she has been
- 20:42Speaker 1: a constant feature on both Michael and Martha's social channels
- 20:46Speaker 1: since the couple moved back into Martha's parents' home in 2023.
- 20:50Speaker 1: I think that Mary is the real reason that Martha
- 20:52Speaker 1: and Michael are still so relevant because she just adds
- 20:57Speaker 1: so much to their content. She is so funny and
- 20:59Speaker 1: brutally honest. Well, I would argue that she's becoming more
- 21:02Speaker 1: popular than Michael and Martha because her one-liners are hilarious.
- 21:07Speaker 1: She's become a TikTok sensation and followers have been calling
- 21:11Speaker 1: on the family to have their own reality show. So
- 21:14Speaker 1: watch out, Hembros. I mean, that series has never aired
- 21:17Speaker 1: Could we see a Califatitas family reality show.
- 21:20Speaker 2: In the works?
- 21:20Speaker 1: Well, I suppose all three of them have proven that
- 21:22Speaker 1: they're popular on free-to-air reality shows. So it wouldn't be
- 21:25Speaker 1: that difficult to get it potentially across the line. Well,
- 21:28Speaker 1: for a moment, followers actually thought that the couple were
- 21:31Speaker 1: announcing that they had a reality program because they shared
- 21:34Speaker 1: this teaser reel on Instagram and it was announcing a
- 21:37Speaker 1: new project called The Morning Roast. So the promo began
- 21:41Speaker 1: with followers' comments popping up on the screen, which were
- 21:43Speaker 1: all saying, we want to see you on a reality show.
- 21:46Speaker 1: And then the reel showed highlights of Martha and Michael's
- 21:49Speaker 1: TikTok accounts, as well as vision of the trio taking
- 21:52Speaker 1: part in a photo shoot in their pajamas. And they
- 21:54Speaker 1: were all seen sipping coffee. The video then finished with
- 21:58Speaker 1: a series logo, which is a caricature of Martha, Mary
- 22:01Speaker 1: and Michael. Now, there was a lot of confusion around
- 22:04Speaker 1: whether this was a podcast announcement or or if they
- 22:07Speaker 1: were starting their own YouTube series. Because Michael and Martha
- 22:11Speaker 1: have been involved in co-hosting podcasts in the past. And
- 22:14Speaker 1: I actually thoroughly enjoyed in particular Michael's show. He was
- 22:18Speaker 1: a natural on there. He spoke really well. He was
- 22:20Speaker 1: partnered up with Josh from Love Island. And Josh has
- 22:24Speaker 1: now gone on to do the show with Cassidy, who
- 22:28Speaker 1: used to be on Love Island.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:29Speaker 1: I haven't listened to it since Michael has left, but
- 22:32Speaker 1: just back to this teaser. So Fans were really excited.
- 22:36Speaker 1: They all started following this new Instagram account. It's got
- 22:40Speaker 1: 19,000 followers already. And on their Instagram stories, they asked
- 22:44Speaker 1: fans to send them questions saying nothing is off limits.
- 22:47Speaker 1: So this made me think, oh, well, this is clearly
- 22:49Speaker 1: a podcast. But on Saturday afternoon, Martha, Michael and Mary
- 22:53Speaker 1: did a live on Instagram sharing a 45 minute video.
- 22:57Speaker 1: And it was quite funny because normally when people start lives,
- 23:00Speaker 1: they talk to the camera and they explain what they're doing.
- 23:03Speaker 1: But there was none of this. It was very much
- 23:04Speaker 1: like their TikTok videos they put out. It was literally
- 23:07Speaker 1: like you were a fly on the wall just watching
- 23:09Speaker 1: all their interactions. But Martha put fans out of their
- 23:13Speaker 1: misery around 15 minutes in when she confirmed what fans
- 23:17Speaker 1: could expect from this new project. Let's have a listen.
- 23:21Speaker 1: It's not a podcast. It's a vodcast, which is a video,
- 23:25Speaker 1: but it will have.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Audio as well.
- 23:27Speaker 1: So you'll be able to watch it on YouTube. You'll
- 23:29Speaker 1: be able to watch it on YouTube.
- 23:30Speaker 2: And look, we're aiming to do it like... Morning, like
- 23:34Speaker 2: every morning, but it's probably... No, no, no, we've changed that.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Oh, we've changed that.
- 23:37Speaker 2: I obviously wasn't in the board meeting. Three mornings a week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday,
- 23:43Speaker 2: we're going to be posting.
- 23:45Speaker 1: So this is basically a podcast, but you can also
- 23:47Speaker 1: watch on YouTube. Well, it's a video podcast on YouTube.
- 23:50Speaker 1: I've never heard of a vodcast before. Well, everyone's saying
- 23:53Speaker 1: that video podcasts are the biggest, greatest thing that's happening
- 23:57Speaker 1: right now. Like every podcast is on video, which I
- 24:00Speaker 1: actually hate, like the best thing about having a podcast
- 24:04Speaker 1: is being able to wear really daggy clothes and not
- 24:07Speaker 1: worrying about what you look like. I rang you up today, Amy.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I said, I cannot film today. I just was not
- 24:12Speaker 1: feeling it. So you were literally sitting here in a
- 24:15Speaker 1: matching gray. Well, I don't even think that the grays
- 24:17Speaker 1: are matching, but a matching gray tracksuit. Well, I saw
- 24:19Speaker 1: Alex Cooper from Call Her Daddy and all she wears
- 24:22Speaker 1: is matching tracksuit. It's This is not as nice as hers.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I don't think you've got Call Her Daddy vibes going
- 24:26Speaker 1: on at the moment. She's lazy bum vibes. Lazy bum vibes. Well,
- 24:31Speaker 1: this is going to be a lot of work for
- 24:33Speaker 1: them though. Three video podcasts a week. I love that
- 24:36Speaker 1: Martha just dropped, oh, aren't we doing it every day?
- 24:38Speaker 1: Do you think that there's a team backing this or
- 24:40Speaker 1: is this being independently run by them? Well, I'm not sure.
- 24:44Speaker 1: They haven't confirmed if a team is involved. They did
- 24:46Speaker 1: keep referencing meetings that they'd been involved in, which imply
- 24:50Speaker 1: maybe there is someone else involved. But Michael was setting
- 24:53Speaker 1: everything up. So he was setting up lights. The light
- 24:56Speaker 1: nearly fell on Martha twice, which she wasn't happy about.
- 24:58Speaker 1: And he was also handing out microphones during this live.
- 25:01Speaker 1: So I wonder if he will actually be filming a
- 25:04Speaker 1: lot of this content. Sounds like it's going to be chaotic,
- 25:06Speaker 1: but I will be tuning in because I think that
- 25:09Speaker 1: they have a great dynamic and chemistry together. Yeah, I
- 25:12Speaker 1: really like them. And just lastly, a little bit of gossip.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Some followers thought that during this live, Martha had accidentally
- 25:20Speaker 1: let slip that she and Michael had secretly married. So
- 25:23Speaker 1: many secret marriages in this episode, Amy. Well, because she
- 25:26Speaker 1: said in the video, I'm regretting that I married you. However,
- 25:30Speaker 1: Michael quickly responded, well, we've been engaged for seven years
- 25:33Speaker 1: because I'm still trying to work out whether I want
- 25:35Speaker 1: to go through with it. Well, I think that's all
- 25:39Speaker 1: we've got time for today. Thank you so much for
- 25:41Speaker 1: listening to another episode of Outspoken. And thank you so
- 25:44Speaker 1: much to some of the kind people who ended up
- 25:46Speaker 1: leaving some really positive reviews. Thank you so much for
- 25:49Speaker 1: doing that. We really appreciate it. And if you would
- 25:52Speaker 1: like to follow us on Instagram and on TikTok, we're
- 25:54Speaker 1: at Outspoken underscore the underscore podcast. You can also follow
- 25:58Speaker 1: Sophie and I on Instagram. This episode was recorded on
- 26:01Speaker 1: the traditional land of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains.
- 26:04Speaker 1: We pay respect to elders past and present.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Thank you.
