- 0:00You have arrived. Welcome to the ASPY world.
- 0:04Here's where we talk about anything and everything ASD in
- 0:07an upbeat and informative way. And now here's your man on the
- 0:11spectrum, your autism Ambassador, Daniel Morgan Jones.
- 0:19Hey guys, here are 5 practical strategies to help people with
- 0:22Autumn ADHD Help with focusing how would you?
- 0:25Say your mental focus is. It's focused, I said.
- 0:31I think it's I I haven't. Let's get right into it right
- 0:33now, guys. What's going on?
- 0:34Welcome back to the aspy world. My name is Dan and I have autism
- 0:37in ADHD. If you're near on here and you
- 0:38want to learn more and come on the journey with me, rotate the
- 0:41subscriber now below and follow this page.
- 0:43So the first thing we want to talk about here is focusing with
- 0:46autism in ADHD. This is something that's really
- 0:48difficult for people on the spectrum because the focus
- 0:51allows for attention to be put through something of a demand.
- 0:54So you need to advance yourself to sit down and do some focus,
- 0:57which is kind of a little bit tricky for people spectrum
- 1:00because pathological demand avoidance comes hand in hand
- 1:03with autism and this is something quite difficult for
- 1:05people to just sit down and go okay.
- 1:06I'm going to focus on this task on my desk and do that one
- 1:09thing. It doesn't always happen.
- 1:11So there are tips and tricks that we can do to help increase
- 1:15the success rate of focus, and I'm going to break all five of
- 1:17those down right now. So the first one is breaking
- 1:19down tasks into small parts. When we think about all the
- 1:22things we need to do, it's a big colossal mess of all kinds of
- 1:25things. And when you have that colossal
- 1:27mess of different types of activities and things to do, it
- 1:30can become overwhelming and you won't focus.
- 1:32You'll procrastinate to high heavens and never get it done.
- 1:34That doesn't work and it will never work.
- 1:37But if you break those tasks down into small and manageable
- 1:39chunks and list them out in bullet points, you'll be able to
- 1:42look and say, well I have one thing to do, which is make my
- 1:44bed, or go over a shower or get the grocery shop done.
- 1:47When you break them down into small manageable parts, you're
- 1:49more able to focus on that one part whilst you do it rather
- 1:52than worrying about everything else because you know that
- 1:54you've already listed it out and you'll get to it when it's turn
- 1:57in the list. So #2 is creating a routine.
- 2:00If you create organizational habit as a routine, it becomes
- 2:05so natural that it is focusable because you're not worrying
- 2:09about, oh do I have to do this thing and I don't have to do it.
- 2:12If you make everything in your life a routine like I get up at
- 2:14this point, have breakfast at this time, go out at this time,
- 2:17I do my books at this time I. Do work at this time and then I
- 2:21go to bed at this time. All of those things that you do
- 2:23daily, Yes, it takes a little bit of time to get into the
- 2:26swing of things, but what we'll do is we'll get your body into a
- 2:28routine of repetitive behavior which is comfortable for people
- 2:32on the spectrum, but also allows you to focus on the things at
- 2:35hand when you're doing them because you are comfortable in
- 2:37the fact that you know what's coming up.
- 2:39There's no ambiguity and there's no kind of surprises that are
- 2:42going to come out of the woodwork because you know what's
- 2:44going to happen. You've planned this out, what
- 2:45you do everyday guys want to say a big shout out to Superman
- 2:49Super focus, which is a supplement that actually helps
- 2:53you focus. Now this thing is pretty
- 2:54amazing. It's actually for attention span
- 2:57and focus increasing, mental clarity and sharp memory
- 3:00increase. This is really, really cool.
- 3:02It's just a supplement. But obviously if you're going to
- 3:04take any kind of supplement and how to prevent speaking to your
- 3:06doctor first, this is to help with mental clarity and focus to
- 3:08help you in your life. You know, I think this is a
- 3:10fantastic product for people who have ADHD and autism focus
- 3:14issues because I myself have issues in those areas.
- 3:17So if you'd like to check out Superman, there's a link down
- 3:20below where you can actually get your hand on some of these.
- 3:23So definitely check them out right now.
- 3:25OK, so #3 is really interesting when you're sitting down to
- 3:29focus on something, right? If I'm sitting down to write my
- 3:30book or I'm sitting down to write emails and stuff like
- 3:34that, one of the things I tend to do is I tend to check my
- 3:36phone and look on social media and I'm scrolling through
- 3:39Facebook or Instagram and I'm like what am I actually doing
- 3:41here because of those things are distractions.
- 3:44What I try to do is I mean my desk is distraction free as
- 3:47possible. I clear the desk of any kind of
- 3:48toys or anything like that but may kind of just pop up and I'm
- 3:52like I'm going to goof about with this like you know, air
- 3:54constant of my neck or whatever. And because of that I always get
- 3:58distracted. So I clear my desk, make sure
- 4:00it's completely natural, focusable and just clear because
- 4:03a clear desk gives you a clear mind which will help you focus
- 4:06and it is so important to get rid of all distractions.
- 4:08If you're going to focus, it's appears to put your phone on
- 4:10airplane mode or do not disturb mode and put in noise cancelling
- 4:14headphones and just sit there and have those on.
- 4:16Kind of like going to the cinema where you have to turn your
- 4:18phone off and just focus on the movie you want to watch.
- 4:21You can't talk to anybody, you can't do anything else other
- 4:22than watch the movie. So put yourself in cinema mode.
- 4:25This is super awesome and it works a whole bunch, believe me.
- 4:28OK, so #4 is visual aids. Now visual aids are kind of like
- 4:32prompt sticky notes and little things you can put around your
- 4:34desk or or in your life to help you remember and stay on track
- 4:38like egg timers. One cool thing to do.
- 4:41So you say I'm going to spend the next 20 minutes doing
- 4:43emails. Set an egg time of 20 minutes
- 4:45and just wait to hear that buzzer before you can move.
- 4:47So you sit down, you do your emails, and when the buzzer goes
- 4:49OK, now you can have a break and do something else.
- 4:51Having visual sterilization for things like post it notes and
- 4:55egg timers and things like that and count clocks really helps
- 4:58you realize that the ability to kind of procrastinate and kind
- 5:03of fidget and wander off can be done at a time once the alarm
- 5:07has gone. You need to discipline yourself
- 5:08to do that. Having visual aids definitely
- 5:11helps. OK, so #5 is a no brainer, which
- 5:13is something we don't always think about.
- 5:14This is practicing mindfulness. Non mindfulness comes in many
- 5:17forms and there's all kinds of like, you know, therapy groups
- 5:19and all this stuff and it seems like a lot of work to really be
- 5:22mindful, but there is a better way to do it.
- 5:24I'm going to hack it with you right now.
- 5:26My fullness just means taking the time to appreciate the more
- 5:28detailed and things. Like I sit back and I say, wow,
- 5:31this chair is comfy, This chair is so comfy.
- 5:33In fact, it's really nice on my back and I love how it feels on
- 5:37my back. I love how the material feels.
- 5:38What kind of material is this? When you analyze something and
- 5:41you confront to see and just analyze, you begin to expand
- 5:46your mind and this relaxes your mind, which is exactly what
- 5:48mindfulness is all about. All you actually do that you
- 5:51achieve a greater attention to focus because your mind is
- 5:54calmed. One of the biggest issues you
- 5:56have with ADHD and autism and focus issues is that your mind
- 5:59is racing 1000 miles out an hour in every direction and time to
- 6:03sit down to one thing. If you try and calm my mind by
- 6:05doing mindfulness, like picking up your your drink and realizing
- 6:09that the Buffle is a really interesting kind of matte
- 6:11texture and that it's cool to touch and has an embossed logo
- 6:14on it, this will help. You might expand and be more
- 6:17focused. This is super cool guys.
