- 0:03Speaker 1: Chuck Garfine is here. You can hear him all year
- 0:05Speaker 1: long on CHSN, on the White Sox TV network. Good
- 0:09Speaker 1: to see you, Chuck. Yeah, let's preview this thing. White
- 0:11Speaker 1: Sox and Astros. I know the White Sox would have
- 0:13Speaker 1: preferred to win the division, but they made the playoffs.
- 0:15Speaker 1: And if you tell the White Sox before the season
- 0:17Speaker 1: they made the playoffs, jumping up and down would not
- 0:20Speaker 1: even begin to describe it. So take me through what's
- 0:22Speaker 1: about to happen here.
- 0:25Speaker 2: I'd like to know.
- 0:27Speaker 3: By the way, it's great to be with you guys.
- 0:28Speaker 3: I wish I knew what's going to happen. I do
- 0:30Speaker 3: not know. I don't like that the White Sox went
- 0:32Speaker 3: 2-5 against the Astros during the regular season, but the
- 0:37Speaker 3: Astros had to eke their way in 81-81. The White
- 0:41Speaker 3: Sox are playing better baseball than they were at the
- 0:44Speaker 3: start of the month. They were struggling playing their worst
- 0:47Speaker 3: baseball while the Guardians were playing the best baseball of
- 0:50Speaker 3: anyone over the last 23-11 to finish the regular season.
- 0:56Speaker 3: it's going to be interesting to see what happens with
- 0:58Speaker 3: this team. You've got an Astros team that totally underachieved,
- 1:02Speaker 3: although they also had a lot of injuries, too. And
- 1:04Speaker 3: you have a White Sox team that totally overachieved. I
- 1:09Speaker 3: don't know what's going to happen here, but I could
- 1:11Speaker 3: see one of two things happening. The White Sox... Just
- 1:14Speaker 3: shocking everyone like they've shocked everyone during the regular season.
- 1:17Speaker 3: And winning this series, with the Astros being the Astros
- 1:20Speaker 3: team that's been to the playoffs so many times before,
- 1:22Speaker 3: they've got the experience and they've got an MVP in
- 1:24Speaker 3: Jordan Alvarez. I will say the White Sox did a
- 1:28Speaker 3: great job against him. He only had one RBI in
- 1:31Speaker 3: seven games against the White Sox this season. If they
- 1:34Speaker 3: do that, that should be a recipe for success. However,
- 1:38Speaker 3: the White Sox went 2-5 against the Astros, despite what
- 1:41Speaker 3: they did against Alvarez during the regular season.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Chuck, I just want to know who starts. Is Sean
- 1:46Speaker 4: Burke going to start game one? Who's starting game one
- 1:50Speaker 4: for the White Sox? Are they going opener every game
- 1:55Speaker 4: like they love to do in the regular season?
- 1:59Speaker 3: So they did not use an opener against them in
- 2:01Speaker 3: the seven games where they faced the Astros in the
- 2:03Speaker 3: regular season. We do not know yet. I think they're
- 2:09Speaker 3: going to go with Fetty in game one. With the option,
- 2:12Speaker 3: this is me talking here, they could put Newcomb in
- 2:15Speaker 3: there as an opener in Game 1, and then Burke
- 2:20Speaker 3: would be Game 2. That is what I think they
- 2:22Speaker 3: might be doing. Fetty is in line to pitch for
- 2:24Speaker 3: Game 1. He's been their most consistent starter over the
- 2:28Speaker 3: last three months. He's, like, slid way under the radar.
- 2:32Speaker 3: People aren't even talking about him. And I actually interviewed
- 2:34Speaker 3: him about a week and a half ago, and he
- 2:36Speaker 3: said that he's been pitching— for his career since June.
- 2:41Speaker 3: He had a five-year race. All the young starters who
- 2:44Speaker 3: were in the minor league system were even being called
- 2:47Speaker 3: up like Noah Schultz. And he said, you know what?
- 2:49Speaker 3: My career is on the line here. And he's had
- 2:51Speaker 3: about a 2.8 ERA since June. So I think he's
- 2:55Speaker 3: got experience. He's never pitched in the playoffs before, but
- 2:59Speaker 3: he's a veteran on this team, a veteran leader. And
- 3:01Speaker 3: I could see him getting a start in game one,
- 3:04Speaker 3: or if not a start, there's an opener and then
- 3:06Speaker 3: it's him.
- 3:07Speaker 5: If it's Sean Newcomb in game one or if they
- 3:09Speaker 5: go opener any of these games, do they still pitch
- 3:13Speaker 5: around Jordan? I get it. They had success. But the
- 3:16Speaker 5: reality is if you lose this series and you lose
- 3:19Speaker 5: this series of Jordan Alvarez, it's a colossal failure of
- 3:23Speaker 5: approach to a team. So if you're going with an opener,
- 3:26Speaker 5: you're essentially saying we're going after Jordan. Am I correct?
- 3:32Speaker 3: Think about that. It would depend on if there's anybody
- 3:36Speaker 3: on base or not, right? It's how do you pitch
- 3:38Speaker 3: to them? By the way, I looked this up. This
- 3:41Speaker 3: stat shocked me. Jordan Alvarez in 2026 with two outs
- 3:47Speaker 3: and runners in scoring position batted 441 with a 694
- 3:53Speaker 3: on base percentage. What do you guys think about that?
- 3:59Speaker 3: I've never even heard of that. How do you even
- 4:00Speaker 3: do that?
- 4:02Speaker 5: But he's on base when he's at the plate. He's
- 4:05Speaker 5: on base when he's at the plate. So all I'm
- 4:07Speaker 5: saying is, as today is Monday, you're scouring through the
- 4:11Speaker 5: scouting reports. You're building how your team is going to
- 4:13Speaker 5: approach him. He is the guy that they've circled three
- 4:16Speaker 5: times and said he's not going to beat us. Do
- 4:20Speaker 5: you feel like this coaching staff has enough? playoff chops
- 4:25Speaker 5: to understand that or do you feel like because the
- 4:28Speaker 5: players there's so many years where players the Astros back
- 4:32Speaker 5: in 2015 where they beat the Yankees as a young
- 4:35Speaker 5: team uh the Royals in 14 where they came out
- 4:38Speaker 5: of essentially nowhere and beat everybody like the young teams
- 4:42Speaker 5: can play regardless of their regardless of their experience but
- 4:47Speaker 5: the manager or not manager but the whole staff do
- 4:50Speaker 5: they have enough experience to understand how to win in the.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Playoffs Glad you asked me that question. I've got a
- 4:55Speaker 3: perfect answer for you. If not perfect, it's a good answer,
- 4:58Speaker 3: I think. So in 2023, there was a team. There
- 5:03Speaker 3: was a wildcard team that had to go on the
- 5:06Speaker 3: road and win a series. And they had to go
- 5:08Speaker 3: to Tampa, and they won both games. And then they
- 5:11Speaker 3: went and they played the Orioles. And they beat them.
- 5:14Speaker 3: They swept them. And they ended up going all the
- 5:16Speaker 3: way to the World Series, and they won the whole
- 5:17Speaker 3: darn thing. It was the Texas Rangers. Who was the
- 5:21Speaker 3: bench coach?
- 5:22Speaker 5: Will Venable.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Will Venable. He knows. Who was the manager, though? He
- 5:27Speaker 2: wasn't the manager. It was Bruce Bochy.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Well, it was Bruce Bochy, but, I mean, he was there.
- 5:31Speaker 3: He experienced that entire ride. It wasn't like he was
- 5:34Speaker 3: just sitting back and saying, Boch, you do your job.
- 5:36Speaker 3: I'm just going to sit here and watch.
- 5:38Speaker 2: He knows.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I mean, he's got experience. Walker McKinvin is the bench coach.
- 5:42Speaker 3: He came from the Brewers. He's been around some playoff situations. And,
- 5:45Speaker 3: I mean, the reason why also I would consider having
- 5:48Speaker 3: Sean Newcomb as an opener if you're going to do it,
- 5:51Speaker 3: He's pitched in the playoffs before, so you'd have somebody
- 5:54Speaker 3: who knows what it's like to be in game one,
- 5:56Speaker 3: inning one of a playoff situation. So I would think
- 6:00Speaker 3: that might be a possibility for them. I don't know
- 6:02Speaker 3: what they're going to do yet. They're going to be
- 6:04Speaker 3: talking in a few hours and we'll have the answer
- 6:06Speaker 3: as to what they're going to do for game one.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Or maybe they'll say, well, we're good. They may not
- 6:10Speaker 3: announce there's an opener until tomorrow. I don't know if
- 6:12Speaker 3: you can do that or not. The White Sox have
- 6:15Speaker 3: been doing this. This might be a major league record,
- 6:19Speaker 3: most times using an opener in a regular season. Do
- 6:23Speaker 3: you do it in the playoffs?
- 6:24Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 6:24Speaker 3: But they actually had a winning record when doing it.
- 6:28Speaker 3: When it works, you don't even think about it. When
- 6:31Speaker 3: it doesn't work, it looks terrible. So I don't know
- 6:35Speaker 3: what they're going to do.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Chuck, let's switch gears here offensively. Do they strike out
- 6:40Speaker 4: too much? Do they strike out too much? Because that's
- 6:43Speaker 4: been a big thing in the postseason for kind of
- 6:46Speaker 4: the last 10, 15 years is the team that strikes
- 6:48Speaker 4: out the least usually wins the series. Do the White
- 6:50Speaker 4: Sox strike out too much to not only beat the Astros,
- 6:54Speaker 4: but to possibly make a deep run in the postseason?
- 6:57Speaker 3: I think you can make an argument that there are
- 6:59Speaker 3: two guys on the team who strike out too much.
- 7:02Speaker 3: It's Murakami and Colson Montgomery. I think the rest of
- 7:05Speaker 3: the team doesn't strike out too much. But if you
- 7:08Speaker 3: throw in the numbers for the whole season, then the
- 7:11Speaker 3: whole team looks like it strikes out too much because
- 7:13Speaker 3: Murakami and Colson are weighing down that stat. Colson Montgomery
- 7:18Speaker 3: struck out more than anybody in the history of baseball,
- 7:20Speaker 3: though he broke the record. And if Murakami wasn't hurt
- 7:24Speaker 3: for six weeks, he would have been striking out even
- 7:27Speaker 3: more than Colson did. So I think that is really
- 7:30Speaker 3: The issue here is that they are striking out too much,
- 7:33Speaker 3: and if they can limit their strikeouts just a bit
- 7:36Speaker 3: in a wild-card series, it's two or three games, maybe
- 7:39Speaker 3: that's even a difference in this series if they're making
- 7:42Speaker 3: more contact. And Murakami, who's had two very different series
- 7:46Speaker 3: against the Astros, he had two home runs in one game.
- 7:49Speaker 3: The White Sox blew out the Astros in the game.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I think it was 12-3 in July. But then when
- 7:54Speaker 3: the White Sox were playing some of their worst baseball
- 7:57Speaker 3: of the year, they went to Houston. In a four-game series,
- 8:00Speaker 3: they lost three of four, and Sean Burks started that
- 8:03Speaker 3: one game. He was great. He had 10 strikeouts. But
- 8:05Speaker 3: to fully answer that question, yes, they do strike out
- 8:09Speaker 3: a lot, but it's those two. When I'm thinking about
- 8:14Speaker 3: this series, I'm looking at those two guys as X
- 8:17Speaker 3: factors and their strikeouts.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Are you fearful or do you see anything different when
- 8:24Speaker 5: they go on the road as a team? Of all
- 8:26Speaker 5: the playoff teams that are in right now, They have
- 8:29Speaker 5: the worst road record. Are you fearful that they play differently?
- 8:34Speaker 3: That's a great question. And what's happened with this White
- 8:37Speaker 3: Sox team this year was in the first two months
- 8:40Speaker 3: of the year, they were not winning on the road
- 8:42Speaker 3: at all. And there was a problem last year with that, too,
- 8:44Speaker 3: and clearly two years ago. And we were saying on
- 8:47Speaker 3: the show, as I was again myself, if they can
- 8:50Speaker 3: learn how to win on the road, I actually said
- 8:52Speaker 3: they're going to win the division. That's how confident I
- 8:55Speaker 3: was with this team, how well they were playing at home.
- 8:57Speaker 3: They weren't winning series on the road. And then what
- 9:01Speaker 3: happened was they started winning series on the road. I
- 9:03Speaker 3: think it was around June. So they can do it.
- 9:06Speaker 3: They are now, as a team, can win on the road.
- 9:09Speaker 3: But if you just look at the road record for
- 9:11Speaker 3: the season, it's not going to look good because of
- 9:14Speaker 3: how poorly they were playing on the road in the
- 9:15Speaker 3: beginning of the year. So they can do it.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Will they? I don't know.
- 9:18Speaker 3: But you know what? I did talk to Will about
- 9:21Speaker 3: this actually yesterday. that he kind of likes the idea
- 9:25Speaker 3: of being on the road. He would prefer to be
- 9:26Speaker 3: at home, but this team is going to have so
- 9:30Speaker 3: much energy.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Playing.
- 9:33Speaker 3: They already bring enough energy as it is that they're
- 9:36Speaker 3: going to like to go into this hostile environment and
- 9:38Speaker 3: feel good about proving guys like the fans wrong. I
- 9:42Speaker 3: think that's going to be some juice for them being
- 9:45Speaker 3: on the road in that environment. It's not going to
- 9:47Speaker 3: get the best of them. And they've been playing in
- 9:50Speaker 3: some like playoff atmosphere situations in doing quite well, like
- 9:53Speaker 3: against the Cubs. You know how AJ knows how the
- 9:56Speaker 3: White Sox Cubs series can be granted it's not a
- 9:58Speaker 3: playoff series but I think there's enough that's happened in
- 10:01Speaker 3: the regular season that they can go in there and
- 10:03Speaker 3: win a series Chuck what was I didn't.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Get to see it because I was I was not
- 10:08Speaker 4: home this weekend but when you saw that the White
- 10:12Speaker 4: Sox clinched a playoff berth what was you and Ozzie's
- 10:17Speaker 4: postgame show like was it what did you guys get crazy.
- 10:21Speaker 3: No, they got crazy. The players got crazy.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Well, they deserve to get crazy. The players deserve to
- 10:26Speaker 2: get crazy.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Yeah, it was like a fraternity house at 3 in
- 10:28Speaker 3: the morning.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Duh, Chuck. Yeah.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:33Speaker 4: So you and Ozzie didn't do anything? Did you and
- 10:35Speaker 4: Ozzie do anything special in the postgame? Because I didn't
- 10:37Speaker 4: get to see it. Now this is a legitimate question.
- 10:40Speaker 3: We did not do anything crazy, I don't think, because
- 10:42Speaker 3: we were more like traffic cops. We kind of stayed
- 10:45Speaker 3: in our lane because the story was there in that clubhouse.
- 10:49Speaker 3: This is a team that had lost over 300 games
- 10:52Speaker 3: over the last three years, and we wanted to watch
- 10:54Speaker 3: them celebrate. So we didn't really say too much. It
- 10:57Speaker 3: was more about watching what they were doing, and Brooke
- 11:00Speaker 3: Fletcher and Connor McKnight were our reporters in there. So
- 11:03Speaker 3: that was not one of those shows where we were like,
- 11:05Speaker 3: let's tune in to watch what Ozzie and Chuck are
- 11:07Speaker 3: going to do and say. There have been a lot
- 11:09Speaker 3: of those. But this was one where the story was
- 11:12Speaker 3: what was going on in Kansas City with the players
- 11:15Speaker 3: of Murakami, the things that he was saying. There was
- 11:18Speaker 3: a conga line going on. And I'll say this. I
- 11:21Speaker 3: didn't see every single postgame celebration for all the teams
- 11:26Speaker 3: that clinched. None of them could have topped what was
- 11:29Speaker 3: going on with the White Sox and what was happening
- 11:33Speaker 3: in that clubhouse. It was absolutely insane.
- 11:36Speaker 2: So much fun.
- 11:37Speaker 3: That team. What they went through to get to where
- 11:40Speaker 3: they are and make the playoffs, it was so entertaining.
- 11:43Speaker 3: But what was interesting was when they won the game
- 11:46Speaker 3: in Kansas City, I was watching to see their reaction.
- 11:49Speaker 5: And it.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Was not as crazy as I thought it was going
- 11:54Speaker 3: to be. It was almost like, yeah, we expected to
- 11:55Speaker 3: make the playoffs. We're not going to act like we
- 12:00Speaker 3: just won the World Series. They were kind of like
- 12:03Speaker 3: reserved in their celebration of in the clubhouse when the
- 12:06Speaker 3: beer was out there in the champagne, they were going crazy,
- 12:09Speaker 3: but I think they're in their minds. They have bigger
- 12:11Speaker 3: goals than just making the playoffs. And we'll see if
- 12:13Speaker 3: they can actually win a series and go further than
- 12:16Speaker 3: even now people are expecting.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Well, Chuck, you are glowing.
- 12:21Speaker 1: You have also been through a lot of pre and post.
- 12:24Speaker 1: You are glowing right now, my friend.
- 12:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:26Speaker 1: You have been through a lot of pre and post
- 12:27Speaker 1: with losses and I know travel.
- 12:31Speaker 3: No, we haven't talked about if they win this series,
- 12:34Speaker 3: if they go onto the ALDS, will we travel? But
- 12:37Speaker 3: we're staying put for now, and we'll see what happens.
- 12:40Speaker 3: But what's that?
- 12:43Speaker 5: If they win this series, Chuck, you're going to get fired.
- 12:46Speaker 5: Talking negative like that when they win this series.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Yeah, but then there's the jinx component.
- 12:51Speaker 2: If there's anything negative about the White Sox, Chuck, you'll
- 12:53Speaker 2: get fired. Oh, stop it.
- 12:56Speaker 3: AJ, have you watched our post-game show? You have watched
- 12:59Speaker 3: our post-game show.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Come on. I'm just speaking from experience, Chuck.
- 13:04Speaker 3: AJ, it's not what you say. It's how you say it.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Or just be Aussie and you can just say anything
- 13:12Speaker 2: you want. Well, I don't know.
- 13:14Speaker 3: But by the way, I got something here. Because this
- 13:18Speaker 3: is not my office, believe it or not. I'm actually
- 13:19Speaker 3: at work. And this happens to be here. Look at
- 13:22Speaker 3: this little bobblehead. AJ Pruszynski bobblehead. I'd never seen one before.
- 13:27Speaker 3: When was this, AJ?
- 13:30Speaker 1: That's the best one.
- 13:32Speaker 3: When you dyed your hair.
- 13:34Speaker 5: The only bobblehead that shakes.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Oh, that's a great one. That might be here.
- 13:39Speaker 5: All others shake, yes.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Chuck, you're an idiot. Chuck, you're an idiot. Chuck, you're
- 13:45Speaker 2: an idiot. Which I am. Thank you. Thank you very much.
- 13:49Speaker 5: Thank you, Ozzy.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Well, Chuck, we'll look for the coverage on TV. We'll
- 13:54Speaker 1: look for the pod coverage, everything Chuck's bringing. Also, follow
- 13:58Speaker 1: him on socials. Follow what Ozzy's doing. Good talk. And
- 14:02Speaker 1: you can say goodbye to the bully above you.
- 14:05Speaker 3: AJ, I'm not going to say goodbye to you because
- 14:07Speaker 3: we're going to see each other again this postseason because
- 14:10Speaker 3: this is going to go forever.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Is that what you want me to hear? Absolutely, Chuck.
- 14:14Speaker 2: You know why?
- 14:14Speaker 4: Because then I might get invited up there to throw
- 14:17Speaker 4: out a first pitch or catch a first pitch or something.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Heck, I might even have to call the Pope. To
- 14:21Speaker 2: come in town just to get them there.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Hey, you saw the Pope.
- 14:25Speaker 2: My goodness.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Gave him a nice little gift, too. So the Pope
- 14:29Speaker 3: is behind us. And we've got the Pope and we've
- 14:33Speaker 3: got Mike Vassell's magic wand. Do not look past what
- 14:36Speaker 3: the White Sox can do this postseason.
- 14:38Speaker 2: All we need is the King.
- 14:39Speaker 5: Eliminated.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Eliminated.
- 14:41Speaker 5: Expellius.
- 14:45Speaker 3: All right. Great being with you guys.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it was fun.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Crassie, just because the website says the tickets are sold
- 14:53Speaker 4: out doesn't mean you can't go see the Brewers in Milwaukee,
- 14:56Speaker 4: see the Dodgers in L.A., see the Rays in Tampa Bay.
- 15:00Speaker 4: You can go to SeatGeek and find the best seat available.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Pick wherever you want to sit.
- 15:03Speaker 2: And buy one.
- 15:05Speaker 5: There's no bad seats in Milwaukee because the stadium is
- 15:09Speaker 5: right on top of the field. It feels like you're
- 15:12Speaker 5: in the grass. L.A., just don't get a seat near
- 15:15Speaker 5: the speakers. But you can find out where the best
- 15:17Speaker 5: seats in each stadium are on SeatGeek. And of course
- 15:20Speaker 5: I have a code for you guys. You can use
- 15:22Speaker 5: code TERRITORY10 for 10% off your next set of tickets
- 15:26Speaker 5: at SeatGeek. That's 10% off any tickets with promo code TERRITORY10.
- 15:32Speaker 4: Make sure you click the link in the description to
- 15:34Speaker 4: download the app and have the code automatically added to
- 15:37Speaker 4: your account so.
- 15:38Speaker 2: You can use it later. And you know what?
- 15:40Speaker 5: If your team's not in the playoffs, it's no big
- 15:42Speaker 5: deal because SeatGeek's got you for tickets for NFL, for concerts,
- 15:47Speaker 5: anything that you want.
- 15:50Speaker 1: All right, let's charge. And we're going to have more
- 15:53Speaker 1: time to talk about this series, doing this on a
- 15:55Speaker 1: Monday right now, Red Sox and Yankees, a little preview.
- 15:59Speaker 1: These are two really good teams, AJ. You can make
- 16:01Speaker 1: the case that either of them could take down the
- 16:04Speaker 1: Rays in the next round and then ultimately make it
- 16:07Speaker 1: to the World Series, right? I mean, any team on
- 16:10Speaker 1: this side of the bracket is going to be favored
- 16:11Speaker 1: over whatever comes out of the other portion of the
- 16:14Speaker 1: bracket in the American League. So we can start there
- 16:17Speaker 1: with what you think of these teams individually. The other
- 16:19Speaker 1: part for me is did you think the Schlittler part
- 16:22Speaker 1: was weird at all? Why were they being coy about
- 16:24Speaker 1: Cam Schlittler? Why wouldn't you start him in game one?
- 16:28Speaker 4: Maybe to keep the internet trolls off of him a
- 16:29Speaker 4: little bit because all the stuff he loves to follow
- 16:31Speaker 4: on social media.
- 16:32Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:34Speaker 4: It didn't make any sense. Everyone knew Schlittler was starting,
- 16:37Speaker 4: so let's just say it and move on.
- 16:39Speaker 2: But it's the Yankees.
- 16:41Speaker 4: They do things differently up there in the Bronx, so
- 16:42Speaker 4: I don't know what they were doing. But this is
- 16:45Speaker 4: going to be a great matchup from the pitching matchup
- 16:47Speaker 4: to offensively. If Wilson Contreras doesn't play and Aaron Judge
- 16:50Speaker 4: doesn't play, that changes some things. Whose bullpen is going
- 16:53Speaker 4: to hold up for these three games longer? The Yankees'
- 16:55Speaker 4: bullpen has kind of been getting banged up a little bit. So,
- 16:58Speaker 4: you know, can they hold up long enough to get
- 17:01Speaker 4: through these three games? You mentioned the starting pitching, you know,
- 17:06Speaker 4: who's going to be able to ride their starting pitcher
- 17:08Speaker 4: longer to save bullets for their bullpen? That's going to
- 17:09Speaker 4: be key. You know, Chad Tracy, is he going to
- 17:12Speaker 4: go by the script? You know, Aaron Boone has more
- 17:14Speaker 4: experience in these situations. He's going to let his guys
- 17:16Speaker 4: ride a little bit longer. What do you do with
- 17:17Speaker 4: Carlos Rodon? You know, he's going to be, what do
- 17:20Speaker 4: you do with Will Warren? Are they going to be
- 17:21Speaker 4: bullpen pieces? This whole thing is fascinating to me, but
- 17:24Speaker 4: I know this on paper, the starting pitching matchups, plus
- 17:27Speaker 4: the Yankees Red Sox.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I mean, it's, it's going to be a fun, fun
- 17:30Speaker 2: three days and in the Bronx. Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 17:36Speaker 5: I think the, I think the matchup, while it is
- 17:39Speaker 5: going to come down to pitching, it's going to come
- 17:41Speaker 5: down to who, Who ends up getting the big hit
- 17:45Speaker 5: for either team? Are the Yankees circling Roman Anthony? Are
- 17:51Speaker 5: they circling, obviously, if Wilson Contreras is in the lineup,
- 17:54Speaker 5: are they circling him? Are the Red Sox without Judge?
- 18:00Speaker 5: Who are they most afraid of? I think it depends
- 18:02Speaker 5: on who's pitching. They're going left, right, left as far
- 18:05Speaker 5: as starters. Thinking Sonny Gray would have been their opening
- 18:08Speaker 5: day starter or their first game starter. Peyton Tolley's done amazing,
- 18:14Speaker 5: but does that left-handed matchup bode well for them matching
- 18:19Speaker 5: up against all the Yankees lefties? And I think ultimately
- 18:23Speaker 5: it's going to be decided by each team's six through
- 18:28Speaker 5: eight hitter. The Spencer Jones of the lineups. The Chad
- 18:33Speaker 5: Durbin's of the lineups. Caleb.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 18:39Speaker 5: Chad Durbin was a relief pitcher. But it's going to be,
- 18:43Speaker 5: you know, how is Sedan Rafaela going to come up
- 18:46Speaker 5: in big situations? Or is he going to just swing
- 18:50Speaker 5: so many balls out of the zone? To me, yes,
- 18:52Speaker 5: the pitching is big. But which team or which batter
- 18:55Speaker 5: is each team willing to attack in the lineup? And
- 19:00Speaker 5: is that guy going to be able to step up
- 19:02Speaker 5: to be the guy?
- 19:05Speaker 1: Also, is the Red Sox offense okay? It hasn't looked
- 19:07Speaker 1: good for the past month. Is it going to be okay?
- 19:11Speaker 1: Is Wilson Contreras okay? He's missed a lot of time.
- 19:15Speaker 2: It's Aaron Judge. Is Aaron Judge okay? We don't know.
- 19:17Speaker 2: He took swings. I took swings today. I think I
- 19:20Speaker 2: should be in the line of Booney. Call me. I'll play.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Mickey Gasper.
- 19:25Speaker 5: Mickey Gasper.
- 19:27Speaker 3: I know.
- 19:27Speaker 1: That's a loss.
- 19:28Speaker 3: That is.
- 19:28Speaker 4: I never thought you'd say that. I never thought you'd
- 19:31Speaker 4: say that at the beginning of the year. Mickey Gasper.
- 19:33Speaker 4: Babe Gasper.
- 19:35Speaker 2: I know.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And I know. I'm picking through parts here, but there
- 19:38Speaker 1: are some guys missing in action that are going to
- 19:41Speaker 1: severely impact what we're looking at here the pitching should
- 19:43Speaker 1: be superb on both sides but what is the offense
- 19:45Speaker 1: going to look like for both sides like you're saying
- 19:47Speaker 1: yeah bottom of the lineup, all that. But I mean,
- 19:49Speaker 1: there's some pieces that are either unknowns or missing.
- 19:52Speaker 5: But Scott, that's okay. That's what you do during this
- 19:54Speaker 5: time of year. You pick through little things because little things,
- 19:59Speaker 5: you're always, if your lineup has gaping holes in it,
- 20:03Speaker 5: you're always close to that part of the lineup in
- 20:07Speaker 5: a playoff game. You're always okay with making Roman Anthony
- 20:10Speaker 5: chase something because whoever's batting second isn't giving them good at-bats.
- 20:15Speaker 5: How's Trevor Story swinging it when he's out there? Is
- 20:18Speaker 5: Cedon Rafael going to come up huge in one of
- 20:20Speaker 5: his hot stretches? It's okay to pick and choose little
- 20:24Speaker 5: things because this is the difference. This is why it's
- 20:27Speaker 5: tough to win in the playoffs or tough to gauge
- 20:29Speaker 5: the playoffs because teams that don't have a lot of depth,
- 20:33Speaker 5: don't put a lot of good at-bats together, one through nine,
- 20:35Speaker 5: one through eight, They get eaten apart by the best pitchers.
- 20:40Speaker 5: We're not going to see any crappy pitchers in the
- 20:42Speaker 5: playoffs unless it's like a nine to one game.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Hey, also, I agree that pitching is going to be
- 20:49Speaker 1: so good. Back to that. I mean, Cam Schlittler is
- 20:53Speaker 1: at this point runaway Cy Young winner. I know it
- 20:55Speaker 1: stayed tight with him and cease at some points during
- 20:58Speaker 1: the year, but the finish sealed it very easily. in
- 21:01Speaker 1: most people's minds. For Cam, did you guys see the
- 21:04Speaker 1: tweet that further explained the quote AJ was alluding to
- 21:07Speaker 1: at the top of the segment? This is what AJ's
- 21:10Speaker 1: talking about for people that were unaware, Cam Schlittler.
- 21:13Speaker 2: And I.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Would say it could be a borderline obsession with what
- 21:17Speaker 1: people are saying about him. And I'm not saying it
- 21:19Speaker 1: in a way to nitpick. I'm actually saying in a
- 21:23Speaker 1: way to fuel. He has found his bulletin board material, AJ, right?
- 21:27Speaker 1: He always finds it. Yeah, Brendan Cootie from The Athletic said,
- 21:33Speaker 1: Schlittler knows the hate on social media from Red Sox
- 21:35Speaker 1: fans will ramp back up as the wild card game
- 21:38Speaker 1: one nears. Quote, they use me for clicks, and I
- 21:41Speaker 1: feel like I've done a good job of handling that
- 21:43Speaker 1: so far. That's Schlittler.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Who uses you for clicks?
- 21:49Speaker 5: People online.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Yeah, but who?
- 21:52Speaker 1: People online, they don't get paid for clicks. Is he
- 21:54Speaker 1: talking about the media?
- 21:55Speaker 4: That's why I was confused by this quote. It's like,
- 21:58Speaker 4: who uses you for clicks? Red Sox fans, they don't
- 22:02Speaker 4: get paid for clicks. That's why I didn't really understand
- 22:05Speaker 4: this quote. I mean, what they use them for is
- 22:08Speaker 4: the Red Sox fans just know it gets under his
- 22:10Speaker 4: skin a little bit. I mean, if it didn't get
- 22:11Speaker 4: under his skin, he would just ignore it, right? Like
- 22:13Speaker 4: people say, oh, I got you online.
- 22:16Speaker 2: I don't care, dude. I laugh at it. It's stupid, right?
- 22:19Speaker 2: It makes me laugh all the time. But when you
- 22:21Speaker 2: actually acknowledge it, then people are like, oh, I got him.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Now I'm going to go more. If you just ignore it,
- 22:26Speaker 2: then people just go away.
- 22:29Speaker 1: He loves it.
- 22:30Speaker 2: He loves it.
- 22:32Speaker 5: I saw plenty of young players before a game starting
- 22:36Speaker 5: pitchers like this on their phone before a game. So
- 22:43Speaker 5: if you think you're getting under his skin and you've
- 22:46Speaker 5: been getting under his skin all year as a Twitter troll, Instagram,
- 22:51Speaker 5: whatever it is that he's scrolling on, well, it hasn't worked.
- 22:56Speaker 5: So if that's the case, which that's what Cam said,
- 22:58Speaker 5: he's like, I feel like they kind of would have
- 23:01Speaker 5: stopped because, you know what, I kind of got them
- 23:04Speaker 5: last time. So that's just going to fuel them even more.
- 23:07Speaker 5: And maybe he uses that as fuel. You know, I
- 23:11Speaker 5: think everybody uses fuel differently or haters differently or quotes differently.
- 23:18Speaker 5: But he's going to be a tough component, tough opponent
- 23:25Speaker 5: for the Red Sox.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I know someone who uses the Yankees organization as fuel
- 23:30Speaker 1: and also missed a little bit of time recently and
- 23:33Speaker 1: then came back.
- 23:35Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:35Speaker 1: We're all just Chapman. I mean, he does not like
- 23:39Speaker 1: the Yankees period. He's got a thing in his head.
- 23:42Speaker 1: He's talked about it before. I think there was a
- 23:45Speaker 1: time when he kind of took a line back, but
- 23:47Speaker 1: even earlier this year, AJ, didn't he ask the Yankees
- 23:50Speaker 1: to apologize? And the Yankee said, no.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Yeah, what was that all about? He pitched there for
- 23:56Speaker 4: a long time, too, and then all of a sudden
- 23:57Speaker 4: now he hates him.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 23:58Speaker 2: It's weird.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Well, you know what it was.
- 24:01Speaker 5: Yeah, it was the whole he was in Tampa. They
- 24:05Speaker 5: told him he had to make it up for a workout.
- 24:07Speaker 5: He said, I'm not making it up. They said, all right,
- 24:09Speaker 5: you're not going to be on the roster. There's a
- 24:11Speaker 5: chance he wasn't going to be on the roster. But
- 24:12Speaker 5: all this was kind of– that was the beginning of
- 24:15Speaker 5: the year, the apology. And then it kind of fueled
- 24:16Speaker 5: up when the Red Sox– people don't remember this. The
- 24:18Speaker 5: Red Sox were kind of stinking. And then the Red
- 24:21Speaker 5: Sox obviously turned it around. But at that stinking time,
- 24:24Speaker 5: they were like, is it possible? Would the Yankees trade
- 24:27Speaker 5: back for a Roldis Chapman? And that was quickly squashed.
- 24:32Speaker 5: But yeah, so he was he he felt like he
- 24:35Speaker 5: needed an apology. And the Yankees felt like he didn't
- 24:38Speaker 5: because he never he didn't show up. Like we talk
- 24:42Speaker 5: about Cattell Marte. We're talking about the playoffs now, not
- 24:45Speaker 5: a regular season game.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Yep. I love that juice. I love all of it. So.
- 24:51Speaker 1: because i think for a little bit of time i
- 24:53Speaker 1: mean there was really good genuine hate and yankees red
- 24:55Speaker 1: sox was at its core and it was peaking and
- 24:57Speaker 1: then there was a time where you know one i
- 25:00Speaker 1: mean one team's good one's not right or one team's
- 25:02Speaker 1: a real threat one's not red sox had some pretty
- 25:05Speaker 1: down times then they'd mix in obviously some very high
- 25:07Speaker 1: times like world series titles while the yankees haven't won
- 25:10Speaker 1: since in a long time now we're getting close to
- 25:12Speaker 1: 20 years um now to me aj you have two
- 25:16Speaker 1: teams capable of making it to the world series. So they're,
- 25:19Speaker 1: they're not peaking really good. And there are multiple storylines
- 25:23Speaker 1: on both sides where they are pretty pissed at the
- 25:26Speaker 1: other side, whether it's the fan base or the organization
- 25:29Speaker 1: that to me gives you a concoction for a real Yankees,
- 25:32Speaker 1: Red Sox rivalry.
- 25:33Speaker 2: True. True.
- 25:35Speaker 4: And yeah, the Red Sox kind of have almost, I
- 25:38Speaker 4: don't want to say switch places with the Yankees fans,
- 25:40Speaker 4: but they've won so much.
- 25:42Speaker 2: They've won more than the Yankees.
- 25:43Speaker 4: And now it's like the, the, the Red Sox fans like, ha,
- 25:47Speaker 4: We're the best organization, and the Yankees are like, well,
- 25:49Speaker 4: we still have way more in our history.
- 25:51Speaker 2: So it'll never go away.
- 25:52Speaker 4: Listen, I think it's great for the game when two
- 25:54Speaker 4: teams don't like each other like this, two fan bases.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Great rivalries make for great television and great drama. So
- 26:00Speaker 4: I hope this is an outstanding series.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I really do.
- 26:03Speaker 4: I hope this is an amazing series. I hope it
- 26:05Speaker 4: goes three games. I hope we get to see the good,
- 26:07Speaker 4: the bad, and the ugly, and both teams just have fun.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Yep, same with you. And we have our coverage plus–
- 26:14Speaker 1: Coverage from two shows that have been on after every
- 26:17Speaker 1: single game this year for the Yankees and Red Sox, respectively.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Here's Monster Territory, Robbie Hyde, after every single Red Sox
- 26:25Speaker 1: game all season long. He'll continue to be with you.
- 26:28Speaker 1: And then Derek Lebendowski for Pinstripe Territory. Same thing after
- 26:32Speaker 1: every single Yanks game. They'll have some bonus preview action, too.
- 26:36Speaker 1: So if you want to learn more about those teams,
- 26:38Speaker 1: if you're on the other side, go for it.
