Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to Couples Counseling with Chelsea. And I'm here
- 0:03Speaker 1: with three of my friends. They are not a couple,
- 0:06Speaker 1: they're a threaple and they're not romantically involved either. There
- 0:09Speaker 1: are three comedians named Amina Amani, Sydney Washington, and Marie
- 0:13Speaker 1: Fouston and they are a friendship threaple and I spent
- 0:16Speaker 1: some time with them a whistler and heard a lot
- 0:19Speaker 1: about their beef, so I thought I would bring them
- 0:21Speaker 1: onto the podcast. Okay, So in your experience with your
- 0:26Speaker 1: relationship experience, when do you think the best time to
- 0:29Speaker 1: be brutally honest with your good friends is all the time?
- 0:32Speaker 1: Or do you depick certain moments to be brutally Honestick,
- 0:36Speaker 1: we gotta pick our moments?
- 0:37Speaker 2: Can you do?
- 0:38Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 0:38Speaker 2: I gotta piment.
- 0:39Speaker 4: Is that how you girls feel, Marie and Sydney.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Uh, I think that sometimes you got to hit somebody
- 0:45Speaker 2: with the honest truth. There's the right time to do it,
- 0:48Speaker 2: in a wrong time to do it, and there's a
- 0:49Speaker 2: right way to do it, in a wrong way to
- 0:51Speaker 2: do it. You know, don't do it in front of
- 0:53Speaker 2: everybody all loud at brunch.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Don't drag me at brunch.
- 0:56Speaker 2: You know, maybe if it's just us and we're on
- 0:58Speaker 2: FaceTime and we will have our face masks on, you
- 1:01Speaker 2: could do it. You could do it there when I'm
- 1:03Speaker 2: wearing a you know, a little Korean skincare mask.
- 1:07Speaker 4: But you know, don't do it over my food.
- 1:09Speaker 2: That's crazy because me and Emeana are always being too
- 1:12Speaker 2: honest at brunch. That's I think that turn am out brun.
- 1:16Speaker 2: That's the relationship that y'all have. Yeah, well, I feel
- 1:19Speaker 2: like Maria is always brutally honest. I feel like Sidney,
- 1:24Speaker 2: her honesty is different, like she has a different language.
- 1:28Speaker 2: It has to be kind of translated right, Like she'll
- 1:31Speaker 2: say something in her mind she said it, and you'd
- 1:33Speaker 2: be like, you didn't say what you thought you said.
- 1:35Speaker 2: So I feel like that's and then now for me,
- 1:38Speaker 2: I've learned to only give my honesty when it's a stuff.
- 1:41Speaker 2: But y'all, y'all wouldn't agree. I don't think I just
- 1:44Speaker 2: throw my honesty on y'all. Y'all gotta call me for
- 1:46Speaker 2: my honesty.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Marie, what you think, Amana?
- 1:48Speaker 2: You called me brutally honest, and that's why I think
- 1:55Speaker 2: I'm honest. But I don't think anything about but honesty
- 1:58Speaker 2: is brutal. Well, I don't know if I say brutal,
- 2:00Speaker 2: but like I feel like you're gonna be You're not
- 2:02Speaker 2: gonna sugarcoat. And when I say brutal, I mean like
- 2:04Speaker 2: you not gonna say how do I think this person
- 2:07Speaker 2: would take this? I feel like you would just say
- 2:08Speaker 2: it how you say it. That's what I mean by
- 2:10Speaker 2: brutally honest.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Maria, You're pretty brutal. You're pretty brutal. If you if
- 2:14Speaker 3: somebody shows you like who they did, You're.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Like, oh, oh oh that that Oh okay, right, Or
- 2:22Speaker 2: she'd be like, oh my god, what you got on?
- 2:26Speaker 3: They're like, so was that there were that with you? Oh?
- 2:31Speaker 3: They couldn't be me, couldn't be me?
- 2:33Speaker 2: That's cute for you. Yeah, No, Amina, I think that
- 2:36Speaker 2: you're very honest. See how I didn't use the word
- 2:39Speaker 2: brutal very to your I think you're very honest. But
- 2:43Speaker 2: you also know how to articulate what you mean and
- 2:45Speaker 2: why you why you feel how you feel. So I
- 2:47Speaker 2: think that that's that's good, right, Yeah, I think that's
- 2:50Speaker 2: a good that's a good trait. I feel like, in
- 2:52Speaker 2: the sense of us being honest with each other, we've
- 2:54Speaker 2: gotten to that moment where we've had to like intervene, right, So,
- 2:57Speaker 2: like I had a mental breakdown, y'all came and got me.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Sydney had like her apartment all in disarrayed. We came
- 3:03Speaker 2: and pulled up to her apartment, got it fixed together.
- 3:06Speaker 3: You know.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Marie was down a little bit, vibrating low. We came
- 3:09Speaker 2: and picked her up. So I feel like at those moments,
- 3:11Speaker 2: we're like, since we see you and we're.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Here, what were you gonna say? Said?
- 3:16Speaker 2: I said, yeah, no, we went to go, you know,
- 3:17Speaker 2: pick Marie up, and then I got COVID.
- 3:19Speaker 3: But that was great. You know, I was worth it.
- 3:21Speaker 3: It was worth it.
- 3:22Speaker 2: It was worth it. I wouldn't take it back any
- 3:24Speaker 2: other way. I want it that way. Actually, me and
- 3:27Speaker 2: Marie got COVID the same time, at the same time, twice,
- 3:31Speaker 2: two times. I was just glad that it wasn't my
- 3:33Speaker 2: fault because they called me a super spreader the whole time,
- 3:36Speaker 2: and so well, as long as they didn't get it
- 3:37Speaker 2: when I had it.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Mina, you were on safari when when like Tom.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Cruise got I mean not Tom Cruise, who was the
- 3:43Speaker 2: first white man to get COVID. You, I feel like,
- 3:51Speaker 2: but y'all didn't get it from me, and that's the
- 3:52Speaker 2: only point. That's what I'm saying. We didn't get it
- 3:54Speaker 2: from you. But but Mateo got tested because of you
- 3:56Speaker 2: that first time. Yeah, was he all right?
- 4:00Speaker 3: No, we can't think.
- 4:06Speaker 2: They did have to get a lot of COVID tests
- 4:07Speaker 2: because of me, but none of them came back post.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Well, there was always somebody at the outset of COVID
- 4:11Speaker 1: that was spreading COVID around or thought to be spreading
- 4:13Speaker 1: COVID around, and then eventually we all stopped giving a
- 4:16Speaker 1: shit who was.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Spreading it around?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 4:18Speaker 1: Absolutely, Okay, let's talk about because you both you all
- 4:25Speaker 1: have kind of different things going on personally, so let's
- 4:28Speaker 1: talk about the idea of being stand up comics and
- 4:31Speaker 1: living a life. Right now, you're all single women technically
- 4:35Speaker 1: and having everything that you want.
- 4:37Speaker 4: Do you feel that that's possible.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I know you've said that when we've been on the road,
- 4:40Speaker 1: You're like, I want to have it all and I
- 4:42Speaker 1: can have it all.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Oh, I must have been vibrating had it because the
- 4:48Speaker 2: day I'm like, you're gonna lose something, you win one,
- 4:53Speaker 2: you lose one.
- 4:56Speaker 3: I'll speak on this.
- 4:58Speaker 2: I think when certain asked of your life that's going
- 5:01Speaker 2: really well, the other part might not, you know, be
- 5:04Speaker 2: carrying on the same way, and you can have it all,
- 5:08Speaker 2: maybe not all at the same time, but I can
- 5:11Speaker 2: honestly say like, oh, I've had money before, but you know,
- 5:14Speaker 2: my mental health was a mess, or I've been in
- 5:16Speaker 2: a relationship but my mental health was a mess.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I've had money and a relationship. I'm a mess. Like
- 5:24Speaker 3: I feel like it will all work out.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I think we need to define having it all more
- 5:29Speaker 2: realistically because I think we're putting too much pressure on
- 5:34Speaker 2: what is having it off anyway, Yeah, but having it
- 5:37Speaker 2: all for me, I think it depends on what you want, right,
- 5:39Speaker 2: So like having it all for me would be the money,
- 5:41Speaker 2: it would be the love life, it would be the career,
- 5:43Speaker 2: and it would be my fitness. I feel like a
- 5:44Speaker 2: fluctuate in my weight a lot. So it's like if
- 5:46Speaker 2: all those things were here at the top of the mountain,
- 5:49Speaker 2: then maybe I'll probably look for something else to not have.
- 5:53Speaker 2: But I'm also like, those are the things that I
- 5:55Speaker 2: feel like are the ones that are most important.
- 5:57Speaker 3: You know, that's a lot of me. So you want abs,
- 6:00Speaker 3: you want.
- 6:01Speaker 2: A man, abs and ass you want ass, and she
- 6:04Speaker 2: wants but all the time, but that Dick also needs
- 6:12Speaker 2: to have it all, like the dig you know, a
- 6:15Speaker 2: nice house and all of their teeth probably and you
- 6:19Speaker 2: know things like that. So that's the thing. I feel
- 6:21Speaker 2: like you could have it all, and then maybe those
- 6:23Speaker 2: things on the other just kind of teeter and not
- 6:26Speaker 2: be as great maybe. I mean, I kind of agree
- 6:28Speaker 2: with Sydney. I think that as working women we can
- 6:32Speaker 2: have it all. I just don't think you can have
- 6:34Speaker 2: it all at the same exact time. I think if
- 6:37Speaker 2: your career is thriving, other stuff might be fallen by
- 6:39Speaker 2: the wayside. Maybe you have a cute situationship that doesn't
- 6:42Speaker 2: stress you out, or if your relationship is thriving, maybe
- 6:45Speaker 2: you're not really all that focused on work because you're like,
- 6:48Speaker 2: I'm happy, I'm getting it, like you know what I mean.
- 6:51Speaker 2: But I expect to have it all and I think
- 6:54Speaker 2: that I will. But I'm also a little bit du lulu,
- 6:57Speaker 2: so you know the.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Best way to be.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I mean, Chelsea, we're up and coming, convenience. I mean
- 7:02Speaker 2: you you, I feel like you're at a place where
- 7:04Speaker 2: I think, can you say, being in this career that
- 7:07Speaker 2: you can have it all? I mean, we're looking at you.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Check out how brass the lumps right now?
- 7:12Speaker 1: Just bessage in my nipples, almost checking to see how
- 7:16Speaker 1: hard my nipples were. That's how I know if it's
- 7:19Speaker 1: the right temperature for me. I prefer them to be
- 7:21Speaker 1: a little bit crispy, you know what.
- 7:23Speaker 4: I mean, not soft and not too hard. Yeah, I
- 7:25Speaker 4: think it's what is all to you For me.
- 7:28Speaker 1: All doesn't mean marriage and a baby, you know, or
- 7:31Speaker 1: a child and too many, too many professional women they
- 7:34Speaker 1: want to achieve that while also achieving professional success. So,
- 7:38Speaker 1: I mean, my idea of having it all is sharing
- 7:41Speaker 1: and having tons of vacation time in conjunction with work,
- 7:45Speaker 1: and making my own schedule and making my own rules
- 7:48Speaker 1: and deciding what I'm going to do and what I'm
- 7:50Speaker 1: not going to do without anybody telling me what I'm
- 7:52Speaker 1: going to do and what I'm not going to do.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Is my idea of success.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Well, it sounds like you have it all then, bid.
- 7:58Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, maybe maybe some version of that.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Do you guys feel do you guys.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Ever get competitive with one another? How does that work
- 8:06Speaker 1: or present itself? Or are you able to kind of
- 8:09Speaker 1: really cheer each other on while also sometimes getting competitive.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Speaking on my on me, I am not competitive. I
- 8:18Speaker 2: just want to be in similar lanes with my friends.
- 8:22Speaker 2: I don't want to be too behind. I don't want
- 8:25Speaker 2: to be I don't need to be exactly where they are,
- 8:28Speaker 2: but I don't want to be you know, the rut
- 8:30Speaker 2: of the crew in a sense of it doesn't even
- 8:34Speaker 2: have to be like career wise, but sometimes like even energy, energy, vibrations, comedy,
- 8:41Speaker 2: you know, I love when we're all together. It feels
- 8:43Speaker 2: like we're all bringing something together and nobody is lacking.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Well.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I think that's one of the things that I experienced
- 8:51Speaker 1: when I was coming up as a comic, was like
- 8:53Speaker 1: your friend groups, because there's friends that are really rooting
- 8:56Speaker 1: you for you. But it's very hard not to get
- 8:59Speaker 1: jealous when you see someone get an opportunity that you want,
- 9:03Speaker 1: but also to understand that's a natural emotion, and you
- 9:05Speaker 1: can still be supportive of someone when they're exceeding beyond
- 9:10Speaker 1: your own success at that moment, because there's a.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Time for all of us.
- 9:13Speaker 1: So I found growing up with some girls a lot
- 9:16Speaker 1: less competitive, and when I did was around women that
- 9:19Speaker 1: were really competitive, I couldn't be friends with them, like
- 9:22Speaker 1: on a personal level, but I also was at a
- 9:24Speaker 1: time in my life where I had my own TV show,
- 9:26Speaker 1: so everyone that was on the show, I was the boss.
- 9:31Speaker 1: So there's like, well, I'm not going to be competitive
- 9:33Speaker 1: because I'm the one in charge. So I had a
- 9:35Speaker 1: different dynamic, which wasn't necessarily fair to all of the
- 9:38Speaker 1: other women that were on the show because they were like,
- 9:40Speaker 1: we want that, we want that, you know, so you
- 9:43Speaker 1: can take your success for granted and not realize that
- 9:46Speaker 1: you're not having to hit the pavement in the way
- 9:47Speaker 1: that other people are having to hit the pavement. And
- 9:50Speaker 1: then conversely, that can all change in a matter you
- 9:53Speaker 1: know of weeks, months, years, whatever. Everyone's success comes at
- 9:57Speaker 1: different times. But I hear what you're saying sending about
- 9:59Speaker 1: not wanting to be like the runt of the litter
- 10:02Speaker 1: in a friend group.
- 10:02Speaker 4: No one wants that. It's not fun.
- 10:05Speaker 2: But I do think that like if somebody is getting something,
- 10:08Speaker 2: it's like, oh, that's amazing, that's that's also a win
- 10:11Speaker 2: for the group. That's like that brings the group up
- 10:15Speaker 2: because it's like, oh, we're all in the right direction.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I think Samuel Jackson had a quote where he was like,
- 10:21Speaker 2: I was in a he was in theater and he
- 10:23Speaker 2: was seeing different people get plucked out and he was like,
- 10:26Speaker 2: I'm not that.
- 10:26Speaker 3: I'm one degree from that, so that means I'm in
- 10:28Speaker 3: the right place.
- 10:29Speaker 2: So you saw that on TikTok. You're reading an audio book, babe,
- 10:36Speaker 2: Oh my god. Every time I huzard, no, it's from TikTok.
- 10:41Speaker 2: She yeah, she didn't see a tweet. No, TikTok. Sydney
- 10:46Speaker 2: would be like I saw this article. We'd be like, TikTok, TikTok,
- 10:51Speaker 2: you saw ai video Samuel Jackson saying it quote every
- 10:57Speaker 2: everybody is on TikTok, So it's not just me getting
- 10:59Speaker 2: this from.
- 11:00Speaker 3: That's why it's viral. Okay, thank you verious.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Sidney. Everything you watch is not viral though. Sometimes you
- 11:06Speaker 2: just see stuff and nobody else sees it and it's
- 11:08Speaker 2: your algorithm, right said to deceive you.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Right, And that's.
