- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garren. All right, Well, after we
- 0:08Speaker 1: were off this podcast for a day, a lot happened
- 0:13Speaker 1: with this federal freeze I talked about yesterday on One
- 0:16Speaker 1: leg Up with Alex Garrett. Do you want to know
- 0:17Speaker 1: what it was? While there was a federal judge's order
- 0:20Speaker 1: Tuesday night that temporarily blocked the effort to pause federal
- 0:24Speaker 1: payments for grants and other programs, and then just a
- 0:28Speaker 1: few minutes ago, the breaking news is that the Office
- 0:32Speaker 1: of Management and Budget has actually rescinded its call for
- 0:36Speaker 1: a pause on federal assistance that according to the NPR
- 0:39Speaker 1: and Democracy Forward, which led a legal challenge over the efforts.
- 0:45Speaker 1: The new memo says the heads of executive departments and
- 0:47Speaker 1: agencies should contact their general counsels if they have questions
- 0:52Speaker 1: about implementing the presence executive orders, facing legal pressures from
- 0:56Speaker 1: our clients and the wake of a federal judge ruling
- 0:58Speaker 1: in our case. Last even the Trump Fans administration has
- 1:02Speaker 1: obtained omb's order federally federal funding freeze has abandoned omb's
- 1:09Speaker 1: ordered federal funding freeze. Demoscropy, Democracy Forward said in a statement,
- 1:14Speaker 1: we are proud of our courageous clients represent communities across
- 1:17Speaker 1: the nation for going to store court to stop the
- 1:21Speaker 1: administration's legal administration's unlawful actions. This is one of many
- 1:28Speaker 1: many legal challenges that already in a week the executive
- 1:32Speaker 1: orders have faced. But this one matters because you know,
- 1:38Speaker 1: within the twenty six hundred federal programs, there was a
- 1:40Speaker 1: big concern that a lot of the accessibility, a lot
- 1:45Speaker 1: of the adaptive disabled, under representative disadvantaged programs would be
- 1:53Speaker 1: paused as well. There was low nerve this about the
- 1:59Speaker 1: timing of the next payments for Social Security. I think
- 2:01Speaker 1: that's what led to this as well. Even though they
- 2:03Speaker 1: said they would not touch those, I think there was
- 2:05Speaker 1: concern about that the housing situation where that Alliance was
- 2:10Speaker 1: saying that this could affect payments for people in housing
- 2:15Speaker 1: sectors that need rent paid. So that's the breaking news
- 2:19Speaker 1: here on one leg up with Alex Garrett that O
- 2:21Speaker 1: and B has rescinded its call for a pause on
- 2:24Speaker 1: federal assistance. And we'll be on top of this because
- 2:29Speaker 1: again I still believe that despite the pause, there needs
- 2:33Speaker 1: to be an evaluation of all twenty six hundred programs.
- 2:36Speaker 1: What's right for America to fund what's wrong for America
- 2:39Speaker 1: to fund. That's the question I think we have to do,
- 2:41Speaker 1: and I think that's the question that Trump administration and
- 2:44Speaker 1: Trump himself has been asking and wanting evaluation on. But
- 2:52Speaker 1: where we stand right now, As of Genreary twenty nine,
- 2:55Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, at one fifty pm, the freeze has
- 3:00Speaker 1: been rescinded due to legal challenges to this order. And
- 3:17Speaker 1: as I predicted, NPR was told that the pause would
- 3:21Speaker 1: be as short as a day if an agency determines
- 3:23Speaker 1: its programs are in compliance. They weren't asking to fully
- 3:29Speaker 1: defund everything. They were simply saying, let's evaluate these programs.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And I appreciate that evaluation and that need to evaluate,
- 3:46Speaker 1: and I hope they continue to even if it's not paused,
- 3:51Speaker 1: still do those evaluations, because we need to know exactly
- 3:55Speaker 1: what of the twenty six hundred programs America is funding
- 4:00Speaker 1: that we don't necessarily need to fund, because twenty six
- 4:03Speaker 1: hundred programs, you have to admit, is a lot. And
- 4:10Speaker 1: maybe we'll get to the bottom of it once all
- 4:12Speaker 1: the hooplah of this goes away, but for now, there
- 4:17Speaker 1: is a there is a cancelation of this pause, and
- 4:25Speaker 1: maybe once the first of the month comes and goes,
- 4:29Speaker 1: there'll be more of a real evaluation. To have one
- 4:35Speaker 1: leg up on America, we must evaluate the programs. Freeze
- 4:40Speaker 1: or no freeze.
