- 0:00Speaker 1: James.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Hey, James, do we have some breaking news. Sauce Gardener
- 0:08Speaker 2: was just delt to the Indianapolis Colts.
- 0:11Speaker 1: What okay, Sauce Gardener.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Has been traded into the Indianapolis Colts. We heard that
- 0:18Speaker 2: the Colts were looking for a cornerback.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Are you kidding?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Have seen this coming? I did not see this coming
- 0:26Speaker 2: at all.
- 0:27Speaker 1: When I talk about when I talk about teams that
- 0:30Speaker 1: are looking, that are in a position of rarity that
- 0:33Speaker 1: we've seen and they have a position to make something
- 0:35Speaker 1: happen like we're talking about with Denver and then potentially
- 0:37Speaker 1: making a splash because of where they are in their division.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Look at the Indianapolis Colts and where they are in
- 0:42Speaker 1: their division and how they're running away with that spot
- 0:44Speaker 1: right now at what seven and two? But they needed
- 0:46Speaker 1: help on their back end. I think they saw that.
- 0:48Speaker 1: But the part that shocks me here is Chris Ballard,
- 0:51Speaker 1: in his eight years as the general manager there in Indianapolis,
- 0:54Speaker 1: has only made one trade really at the deadline, and
- 0:58Speaker 1: that was Naheim Hines and two if I remember where
- 1:01Speaker 1: he requested to be traded. This is out of the
- 1:04Speaker 1: ordinary for Chris Bauer. But everybody was curious if he
- 1:06Speaker 1: was going to go out and make a move and
- 1:08Speaker 1: kind of break present into what he's usually used to doing.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Because of where the Indianapolis Colts are sitting, and we
- 1:15Speaker 1: all knew it was going to be on the defensive
- 1:16Speaker 1: side of the ball. They were sniffing around at pass
- 1:19Speaker 1: rushers to MI understanding they're looking at maybe somebody that
- 1:21Speaker 1: could come up, like an Ard and Key or something
- 1:22Speaker 1: like that. They could be part of the rotation up
- 1:24Speaker 1: front and maybe make them a little bit better again
- 1:26Speaker 1: after the quarterback. But the number of injuries they've had
- 1:28Speaker 1: in the secondary and the issues they've had in the secondary,
- 1:31Speaker 1: I thought they'd try to make a move. There has
- 1:33Speaker 1: been slim pickings, honestly in terms of corners that are available. Well,
- 1:37Speaker 1: you go and you're gonna get one of the best
- 1:39Speaker 1: ones in football now. I will say this, there are
- 1:41Speaker 1: people I talk to around the league that are torn
- 1:44Speaker 1: on Sauce Gardener Like torn On Sauce Gardner. Some still
- 1:47Speaker 1: think he's part of that top group. Some think he
- 1:49Speaker 1: is not part of that top group anymore. I'm curious
- 1:52Speaker 1: when a new regime comes in, that's always something that
- 1:55Speaker 1: it gets evaluated. But this is also a new regime.
- 1:57Speaker 1: That came in and gave him a new contract. So
- 2:00Speaker 1: this is an interesting move. But you also have a
- 2:02Speaker 1: quarterback that is on somewhat of a bargain, right You're
- 2:05Speaker 1: not paying a massive quarterback contract, and so you have
- 2:08Speaker 1: some leeway to make some some some uh some kind
- 2:12Speaker 1: of acquisitions in this sense, when I look at where
- 2:14Speaker 1: they're almost trying to see where they're at, they're not,
- 2:18Speaker 1: I mean, they have some of the least amount of
- 2:19Speaker 1: cap space available. So we'll see what ends up happening
- 2:22Speaker 1: with with with how they make this work. But that
- 2:25Speaker 1: is a that is a that's a massive move. That
- 2:27Speaker 1: is a massive move. And it looks like two first
- 2:29Speaker 1: half right now, a team going for it. You have
- 2:32Speaker 1: a team going for right now. And if it's two
- 2:34Speaker 1: first round picks, is that what you're saying, because I'm
- 2:35Speaker 1: watching you, guys, I'm not seeing any screen, right.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, it's two first round picks. And so I
- 2:41Speaker 2: saw Richie Soul leave him the second that we announced that.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Yeah, so what does that What does that also tell you?
- 2:47Speaker 1: What does that also tell you how they feel about
- 2:49Speaker 1: Daniel Jones. He's not in the market for a quarterback.
- 2:55Speaker 1: He's their guy. They're not in the market for a quarterback,
- 2:59Speaker 1: prove it aspect of Dan Jones winning this job. It
- 3:02Speaker 1: appears when you give away your first round picks like this.
- 3:04Speaker 1: You know it's not Anthony Richardson. You know you now
- 3:07Speaker 1: have your quarterback, not for five, for twenty six, and
- 3:10Speaker 1: maybe for twenty seven. They had already had some discussions,
- 3:14Speaker 1: just very preliminary discussion with Daniel Jones about potentially having
- 3:18Speaker 1: a contract extension, and those were kind of recent. So
- 3:22Speaker 1: this all does kind of add up, going, Okay, if
- 3:24Speaker 1: we have our team built the way they're built, and
- 3:27Speaker 1: we have some young talent like a Tyler Warren and
- 3:29Speaker 1: certain guys that are on rookie deals and it's not
- 3:31Speaker 1: overly priced receiver corps and not an overly priced quarterback,
- 3:35Speaker 1: you make a big move, big splash.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Whoa wow, it's adding this guy right to the secondary.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Like we're talking. So we're talking about a team that
- 3:43Speaker 2: was top ten and EPA and second in the NFL
- 3:46Speaker 2: secondary wise in DVA. Now you add Sauce Gardner into
- 3:51Speaker 2: the conversation, I think it might be time for us
- 3:54Speaker 2: to start buying into this Indianapolis Colts team. It's taken
- 3:57Speaker 2: a while, but now I think it's official. I think,
- 4:01Speaker 2: so does this make them Super Bowl contenders? Like, that's
- 4:03Speaker 2: the question I listen.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I think last week was a blip. I think if
- 4:09Speaker 1: you look at the way they're built. When I talk
- 4:10Speaker 1: to teams that have faced it's not that they're balance
- 4:13Speaker 1: on offense. They have the ability to come to the
- 4:16Speaker 1: line of scrimmage and see what you do and just
- 4:18Speaker 1: switch to the opposite. Obviously, you have the best running
- 4:21Speaker 1: back in football in all honesty right now in Jonathan Taylor.
- 4:23Speaker 1: You have a receiving core where you don't need to
- 4:25Speaker 1: force the football anywhere. Everybody knows their role in what
- 4:28Speaker 1: they do. You have a tight end that I think
- 4:29Speaker 1: has transformed the offense when you have a type of
- 4:32Speaker 1: player that can be on the field. They run behind
- 4:35Speaker 1: Tyler Ward. I mean they literally have run plays designed
- 4:37Speaker 1: directly behind him, and then he can also catch the
- 4:39Speaker 1: football lineup anywhere on the field. They have everything you're
- 4:42Speaker 1: looking for and a really good decision maker at the
- 4:44Speaker 1: quarterback spot. I think what we just had forgotten over
- 4:47Speaker 1: the last couple of seasons is that Chance Stiking is
- 4:49Speaker 1: a really good play caller. If you remember his last
- 4:51Speaker 1: year in Philly, he was outstanding. If you remember in
- 4:54Speaker 1: what with the Chargers, he was outstanding. He's a really
- 4:56Speaker 1: good play call. He said, nobody to run it. And
- 4:58Speaker 1: so I do think they feel like they are built
- 5:01Speaker 1: in a fashion to win in a variety of ways.
- 5:04Speaker 1: You can try to take it on aspect away and
- 5:05Speaker 1: I think they can beat you in another direction. I
- 5:07Speaker 1: just think they knew that their defense in the secondary
- 5:10Speaker 1: was just so banged up. I mean, Kenny Moore has
- 5:12Speaker 1: been injured and he's one of the best slots in
- 5:13Speaker 1: all of football playing on the inside there. Like, I
- 5:16Speaker 1: think they just were like, you know what, We're gonna
- 5:19Speaker 1: go for it, and hey, I love when teams get
- 5:21Speaker 1: aggressive like this. This is again, not the way Chris
- 5:24Speaker 1: Ballard usually works. And that's why it's the most surprising
- 5:28Speaker 1: thing because with this stuff, guys, we always look at
- 5:30Speaker 1: tendencies in general managers, and this is outside of a
- 5:33Speaker 1: tendency for Chris Ballard.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Why would Aaron Glenn and the New York Jets decide
- 5:38Speaker 3: to part ways with saus Gardner after giving him a
- 5:41Speaker 3: long term extension in the summer.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and again this is just my opinion. I haven't
- 5:46Speaker 1: talked to Obviously, this has happened while we're on here.
- 5:48Speaker 1: So is my opinion, not anybody I've talked to in
- 5:50Speaker 1: New York by any stretch. But I do think there
- 5:53Speaker 1: was a thought when you come in as a regime
- 5:54Speaker 1: that you want to sign your cornerstone players and show
- 5:57Speaker 1: everybody that if you're drafted here, you play well, you
- 5:59Speaker 1: get a and that likes to be established by a
- 6:02Speaker 1: new general manager and a new head coach. And you
- 6:03Speaker 1: did it with Garrett Wilson and Sauce Garner. But then
- 6:06Speaker 1: I would assume what has happened is they've watched Sauce play,
- 6:09Speaker 1: They've watched where their organization is. And then sometimes there
- 6:12Speaker 1: are teams that do evaluate going having a high price
- 6:16Speaker 1: cornerback when you're not a competitor is not really necessary.
- 6:23Speaker 1: It's almost a luxury because what happens when the rest
- 6:26Speaker 1: of your defense is not very good. Okay, we're paying
- 6:29Speaker 1: one of the highest salaries at the position at a
- 6:31Speaker 1: cornerback spot, and what can the offense do just avoid
- 6:33Speaker 1: them and just go somewhere else. And so oftentimes there
- 6:37Speaker 1: are teams that look at that thinking combined with the
- 6:39Speaker 1: fact that they do not have a solution at quarterback,
- 6:42Speaker 1: and now you give yourself ammunition to be more aggressive
- 6:45Speaker 1: towards a quarterback in twenty twenty six and twenty twenty seven. Now,
- 6:48Speaker 1: granted it's early, but the class of twenty six doesn't
- 6:51Speaker 1: seem to be vowing really anybody at the quarterback spot.
- 6:55Speaker 1: But now you do have capital in the draft, capital
- 6:58Speaker 1: in a variety of ways to try to make yourself
- 7:00Speaker 1: more aggressive towards landing that quarterback spot. And if he's
- 7:04Speaker 1: not part of what you think might be a longer rebuild,
- 7:07Speaker 1: that thinking I mentioned about the quarnerback spot does change
- 7:10Speaker 1: a little bit going if we're not close having a
- 7:13Speaker 1: high priced talent who sauces that certainly that doesn't touch
- 7:18Speaker 1: the football and can be avoided by offenses, is that
- 7:23Speaker 1: worth having right now? Man? We love you, we like
- 7:26Speaker 1: you as a player, but what we're trying to rebuild
- 7:28Speaker 1: right now? Are you more valuable in terms of assets
- 7:32Speaker 1: in where we're going? I don't know. I know some
- 7:35Speaker 1: teams think that way that they're they're kind of like
- 7:38Speaker 1: closers in basement. Like, if you're not a good team
- 7:41Speaker 1: in baseball, what do you need a great closer for.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Now? It makes sense from that perspective, it is just
- 7:46Speaker 3: completely blindsided.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I think everything I'm not saying, it's not.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Oh no, just and now the Indianapolis Colts, it just
- 7:56Speaker 3: gets a two time first team All Pro and now
- 7:59Speaker 3: they're going all in for Sauce Gardner. You're talking about
- 8:02Speaker 3: a blockbuster. It was all quiet. We're sitting here on
- 8:04Speaker 3: this trade deadline stream waiting, we're talking about hot takes,
- 8:07Speaker 3: we're waiting for James to give us some news. And
- 8:10Speaker 3: then that comes out of absolutely nowhere. And the funny
- 8:12Speaker 3: thing is Sauce sent this tweet out New York. It's
- 8:14Speaker 3: been real. I quote tweeted, like, stop trolling with us, Sauce,
- 8:18Speaker 3: and then two minutes later, and then two minutes
- 8:21Speaker 1: Later he is gone, and I responded, he wasn't trolling
