- 0:00Hi everybody and welcome to this episode of Appendages, I'm Brian.
- 0:29And I'm Rod.
- 0:30And this month we're blasting off like a rocket ship.
- 0:49And watching movies we love on Pluto TV.
- 0:53Yeah, and I think Pluto's listening to us for once.
- 0:56It's about damn time.
- 0:58Yeah, they're starting to get categories because all mine were within some sort of category.
- 1:03It was pretty awesome.
- 1:05Mine were too.
- 1:06The horror category.
- 1:09You want to start us out this month?
- 1:10Yeah, I'll start you out.
- 1:11And the category name is Thriller and Crime.
- 1:15And the movies that I'm picking are ones I have never seen.
- 1:19And this one is Jennifer Eight from 1992.
- 1:22It stars Andy Garcia and Uma Thurman.
- 1:25And it's just a short synopsis.
- 1:26A policeman fears a blind woman is a killer's next target.
- 1:31Ooh, interesting.
- 1:32My movies this month all have to do with either Valentine's Day or love.
- 1:38And I'll start out with the obvious from 1981, My Bloody Valentine.
- 1:42One of my favorites.
- 1:43Well, the legend they say on a Valentine's Day is a curse that'll live on and on.
- 1:52And no one will know as the years come and go of the horror from long time ago.
- 2:00Set in a small mining town preparing for its Valentine's Day dance,
- 2:05the film follows a series of brutal murders committed by a killer in mining gear
- 2:10who punishes romantic indulgence with heart-themed executions.
- 2:15As long-buried jealousy, betrayal, and trauma resurface among a group of young adults,
- 2:20love and desire becomes deadly triggers in this slasher classic.
- 2:24Man, that's longer than the movie.
- 2:26Yeah, almost.
- 2:28I love that movie.
- 2:29Oh, me too.
- 2:30What's next?
- 2:31Action and Westerns.
- 2:32And I picked Hang Him High from 1968.
- 2:36It starts Clint Eastwood, Inger Stevens, and Ed Begley,
- 2:39who is the father of actor Ed Begley Jr.
- 2:43And the synopsis on this is,
- 2:44when an innocent man barely survives being lynched by a mob of vigilantes
- 2:49seeking justice for a rancher who was murdered,
- 2:53he returns as a lawman determined to bring the errant vigilantes to justice.
- 2:58It's Clint Eastwood.
- 2:59I mean, it can't go too wrong.
- 3:01Is this part of the Outlaw Josie Wales saga?
- 3:05I don't know. I'm not sure.
- 3:07Yeah. Hmm.
- 3:08My next one, from 1971.
- 3:11We're going back another 10 years.
- 3:12Let's Scare Jessica to Death.
- 3:14After being released from a mental institution,
- 3:17Jessica moves to the countryside with her husband in hopes of recovery,
- 3:22only to experience mounting paranoia and strange encounters.
- 3:26As her marriage strains under the weight of her fragile mental state,
- 3:30intimacy, jealousy, and fear blur together,
- 3:34leaving both Jessica and the audience unsure of what is real.
- 3:38Ooh. I still haven't seen that one.
- 3:40I haven't either, and it's been on my radar for a while,
- 3:43so I need to check that one out.
- 3:44Oh, my next one comes from the comedy category.
- 3:48Yay.
- 3:49Foul Play from 1978,
- 3:51starring Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase.
- 3:53In synopsis is, a San Francisco librarian
- 3:57picks up a hitchhiker whose car is broken down,
- 3:59which leads to her being stalked and hunted by shady individuals.
- 4:04A cop she briefly met during a function eventually comes to her rescue.
- 4:08I'm gonna guess Chevy's a cop.
- 4:10I don't know, maybe he's not.
- 4:12Maybe.
- 4:12My next film from 2014,
- 4:15Life After Beth.
- 4:17When a young woman unexpectedly returns from the dead,
- 4:20her grieving boyfriend is overjoyed,
- 4:23until her resurrection comes with unsettling changes.
- 4:27This horror comedy explores a strain of clinging on to a relationship past its natural end,
- 4:32using zombies as a metaphor for denial, emotional decay,
- 4:37and the difficulty of letting go.
- 4:39I know I've seen this one.
- 4:43It's kind of crazy.
- 4:44It's got, what's her face from Parks and Rec?
- 4:46Aubrey Plaza.
- 4:47Oh, okay.
- 4:48Yeah, it's kind of fun.
- 4:49You know what else is kind of fun?
- 4:50Kinda.
- 4:52Only kinda.
- 4:53Our podcast network, the PFPN.
- 4:55So let's hear from them.

- 5:44All right, romance, because love is in the air.
- 5:47Love is in the air.
- 5:50Everywhere I look around.
- 5:54Love is in the air.
- 5:58Love is in the air.
- 6:00Sleepless in Seattle from 1993.
- 6:02I've never seen it.
- 6:04There is no way that we are going on a plane to meet some woman who could be a crazy, sick lunatic.
- 6:09Didn't you see Fatal Attraction?
- 6:11You wouldn't let me.
- 6:12Well, I saw it, and it scared the shit out of me.
- 6:14It scared the shit out of every man in America.
- 6:16Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan.
- 6:18A recently widowed man's son calls a radio talk show in an attempt to find his father a partner.
- 6:26Man, is that why we have kids?
- 6:27So they can find us people to have sex with later on in life?
- 6:30I mean, maybe.
- 6:31It's a lot like You've Got Mail.
- 6:34Okay.
- 6:35Well, it's Nora Ephron directed this one, too.
- 6:37Yeah, yeah.
- 6:38Well, and it's the same cast, and yeah.
- 6:40My last one from 2020.
- 6:43It's called Spell.
- 6:45After surviving a plane crash in rural Appalachia, a man is taken in by a mysterious woman who claims to heal him using folk magic.
- 6:56As he recovers, it becomes clear that his caretaker's help is rooted in emotional manipulation and coercion,
- 7:03turning dependence and trust into instruments of terror.
- 7:07Sounds kind of like a misery, but maybe a folklore misery along those lines.
- 7:12I did have one extra movie.
- 7:14Since it's Valentine's Day, this is a gift for everybody.
- 7:17It's like a box of chocolates.
- 7:18From 2009, The Loved Ones.
- 7:22Am I not pretty enough?
- 7:26Is my heart too broken?
- 7:30Do I cry too much?
- 7:34Am I too outspoken?
- 7:37After rejecting a shy classmate's invitation to prom,
- 7:42a teenage boy is abducted and subjected to a night of sadistic torture,
- 7:47orchestrated as a twisted date.
- 7:50It begins as unrequited affection spirals into obsession and control,
- 7:55revealing a horrifying portrait of love wrapped in entitlement and cruelty.
- 8:01That's right. What Lola wants, Lola gets.
- 8:03Is that it?
- 8:04Yeah.
- 8:05I guess.
- 8:06Good thing I don't know nobody named Lola.
- 8:08Yeah, that's a good one though.
- 8:10Pluto TV this month has some really great movies.
- 8:13It does have movies that if you like the Valentine's Day, the love theme,
- 8:18there's plenty of movies to pick from.
- 8:19There's also all of the Friday the 13th movies that start streaming on Friday the 13th.
- 8:25Hell yeah.
- 8:26So the day before Valentine's Day, if you're not into love,
- 8:29you can just watch all the Friday the 13th movies all month.
- 8:32That's what I love to do on Friday the 13th.
- 8:34They have free movies and we love to watch them.
- 8:37And you should too.
- 8:38Check it out.
- 8:40What do you think this is all about?
- 8:41You think this is a fucking costume?
- 8:43This is a way of life.
