- The DECAF Network: Hey HDXtra from the Checkpoint and Reboot Player One. And today's question from the Checkpoint Catchups is what part of me have I ignored for too long? What part of me have I ignored for too long? That's a difficult question. I think that if I well, firstly I would have to define the parts of me. Is it a work thing? Is it a life thing? Is it a health? mental, physical. I'd like to say that I ⁓ I pay pretty good attention to all parts of my life. And I don't think that I have ignored one for too long. I I do, however, sometimes forget to do something, which then means I have to go to that pretty quickly. The way that I can describe it is like this. ⁓ if you had ever seen those, you know, variety shows way back in the day, magic shows and people that are juggling and all that sort of stuff, there was a ⁓ there are people that were able to to spin plates. They would have sticks and they would have plates and they would spin plates. And, you know, it wasn't just one stick and one plate, it was like five sticks and then five plates. And then he would just spin them and then one would stop, one would start to slow down and about to fall, then he would go and and spin them again. So that's kind of how I see parts of me. Those different plates. And those different plates could be like like my physical part of me, my mental part of me. ⁓ you've you've got like the work part of me, potentially just the personal part of me. And I guess there's family. There's probably another part there. There's probably a couple of other parts as well. But none sort of immediately pop into my head based off those those five. ⁓ and at at any point in my life, one of those plates will start to wobble and I'll need to pay a bit more attention to it. ⁓ and and that You know, the the tricky part for me is to keep them all spinning at the same time. Which is why that spinning plates thing is like the perfect metaphor. Like it's literally impossible to have them all spinning at the same time with the same amount of ⁓ energy, so to speak. So, you know, at times it it it had been my health. ⁓ I'd gotten overweight and I was actually quite heavy like a long, long time ago. ⁓ and I lost a ton of weight. And I've kind of yo-ed, but I've never really bounced back to when I was like super, super heavy. So I I have to be conscious of what it is that I I'm eating. ⁓ in addition to that, I have to also be conscious of the amount of exercise that I do. I'm actually pretty good at the moment, so I could say that that particular plate is is spinning pretty good. the diet thing on the other hand needs a bit of work. ⁓ and and I tend to flip-flop between them because mentally I have this thing where if I'm exercising it a lot, and I kind of am, I tend to eat a bit more. One because I I need I I need the fuel. I I can I feel like I need the fuel. ⁓ then secondly I'm just like, ⁓ I can eat this junk food because I'm gonna go for a run. So that needs a bit of work. ⁓ my work life is probably the most ⁓ consistent in terms of ⁓ in terms of the plate spinning quite fast. And my my personal stuff is is actually pretty pretty good as well. ⁓ Family could probably use a little bit more work. And as my kids get older, the the time that they want want to spend with me, my like with the family is less. They They want to hang out with their friends anymore. And, you know, my eldest just got her license, so she's out all the time. And I'm needing to be a bit more conscious of spending more time with the younger two because I know they'll do the same thing when they get their licenses. And ⁓ you know, it's still some years off yet, but you know, they'll they'll get it and then we won't see them for a while. So I have to be a bit more conscious of spending time with the family at the same time. you know, just respecting ⁓ my wife's space as well. She's got work. She's very busy. she's obviously with the kids as well. And, you know, we're quite close in age. And ⁓ and so she's going through the changes that she's going through in peri, hormones, all of that sort of stuff. So I have to be a bit more aware of that. So that will need to be something that ⁓ I just need to make sure I stay on top of. ⁓ everything else is is okay. You know, I I I I I can't say that I've let one of those plates like I've ignored one of those plates to such a degree that it's kind of fallen off. ⁓ I think the closest that I ever got to that was around five or plus years ago. and that was probably when the plate was like super wobbly and almost was like I said, almost was about to fall. And that was most likely to do with personal stuff. It was ⁓ you it was it was probably my version of a midlife crisis, I guess. You know, loss of identity. work was just ⁓ look, what work was there, but it was uninspiring. ⁓ I didn't know what I want to do with my life. It was one of those like, am I gonna do this till I retire? Like I like I I couldn't see it then. And That's when I I I probably dove into that arena, that part, that plate quite full on. And spent a lot of time in that space. And as a result, you know, whenever you spend too much time on one plate and trying to spin that up, all of the other plates they sort of start to slow down. ⁓ and I do remember when I did a whole bunch of soul searching and researching and listening and just trying things out. My diet went, I stopped doing exercise. I Probably, you know, if you spoke to my family, I might have felt a little bit distant. ⁓ even work at some point probably took a bit of a hit, like during the time that I was trying to like get it together, I'm guess. You know, just to try and figure things out. So that was ⁓ a pretty a pretty intense part of my life. And ⁓ and that plate needed a whole lot of spinning and I I had to spin it for like a quite a long time. And Once I started to figure out what it is that I wanted and what things worked and which way I wanted ahead, then I didn't need to keep spinning that life plate. I could let it do its thing and then I could concentrate on all the other plates, which at the time were getting ignored, like I said before, just ⁓ that really needed it. So so to answer the question, Jesus, twenty minutes, that's a long time, sorry. ⁓ Which part of me have I ignored for too long? Nothing so far. I I I I've I'm pretty self aware of all of the things that need attention when they need attention. ⁓ but way back in the day it was ⁓ it was probably my personal life, more so mental, ⁓ midlife crisis stuff. But ⁓ yeah, I seem to have have gotten past that and you know, I've done so much work in myself. Like I I know when things aren't right, I have tools to try and get me back into place. I have really good people around me that I can tap on the shoulder and just say, Hey, can we have a chat? You know, I I I've got things that I can do, you know, and and a lot of these things are contrasting. You know, sometimes I just want to be around people and and chat to them and other times I just want to basically isolate myself. But I'm aware of that. I I know the things that work for me at at pretty much most times. ⁓ so things are pretty good now. All right, if you liked that question, if you had that same question yourself ⁓ and like to hear other people's answers, ⁓ join us on the checkpoint. ⁓ you can find out more on tc.rebootplay one.com. I'm Dex and I will see you next time. Thanks.
