- 0:01Speaker 1: I'll start Toyota Presents off the bench with Jacob Hester
- 0:04Speaker 1: and Matt Flynn.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Say Hester and Hester.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Five from carrying each other to and Natty to carrying
- 0:11Speaker 1: each other.
- 0:12Speaker 3: On the air, there's Brock Control.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Live from the Mercedes Benz of Baton Rouge Studio. It's
- 0:21Speaker 1: off the bench, all.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Right, welcome back in our number three, O, TV one,
- 0:45Speaker 2: O four five, ESPN, Baton Rouge. Let's get to a
- 0:52Speaker 2: little big deal. No big deal, no big deal, big deal,
- 0:56Speaker 2: no big deal, big deal, no big deal, no big deal,
- 1:01Speaker 2: no big deal, A big deal, big deal, are no
- 1:07Speaker 2: big deal. Cleveland Brown's quarterback Shadier Sanders injured his oblique
- 1:11Speaker 2: throwing the football on Wednesday morning and is not likely
- 1:16Speaker 2: to play this Saturday in the second preseason game for
- 1:20Speaker 2: the Cleveland Brown.
- 1:21Speaker 4: I don't think it's that big of a deal because
- 1:23Speaker 4: it's a preseason game and they haven't really named a
- 1:26Speaker 4: starting quarterback yet, Like they didn't say Shadoor is our
- 1:29Speaker 4: starting quarterback.
- 1:30Speaker 5: So I don't think it's that big of a deal.
- 1:32Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:34Speaker 6: Look, normally it would not be a big deal for
- 1:36Speaker 6: the guy that's listed fourth on the depth charge in
- 1:38Speaker 6: your quarterback battle. But the guy that looked very, very
- 1:42Speaker 6: good and probably was gaining momentum towards at least being
- 1:47Speaker 6: the second string guy who would eventually play some games
- 1:50Speaker 6: this year. There's not going to be one starting quarterback
- 1:53Speaker 6: for the Cleveland Browns in twenty twenty five, so.
- 1:56Speaker 3: It is a big setback.
- 1:57Speaker 6: But what's crazy is of all the quarters and the
- 2:00Speaker 6: young guns, the only quarterback that has stayed healthy for
- 2:03Speaker 6: the Cleveland Browns is the old man.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Mister Joe Flacco, the guy draft class, the iron.
- 2:12Speaker 6: Man, the only one that stayed healthy and hasn't missed time,
- 2:15Speaker 6: hasn't been missed, practiced, and will not have missed the game.
- 2:19Speaker 5: This is a big deal.
- 2:21Speaker 1: You know.
- 2:21Speaker 7: We talked about it on Monday when you and I
- 2:24Speaker 7: were discussing his performance over the weekend, Like, yeah, is
- 2:27Speaker 7: he going to be named a starting quarterback from week
- 2:29Speaker 7: one to preseason?
- 2:30Speaker 5: No, but he has an opportunity to make a.
- 2:32Speaker 7: Move because Dylan Gabriel is down with an injury, Kenny
- 2:35Speaker 7: Pikett's down with an injury.
- 2:36Speaker 3: It'd make him.
- 2:37Speaker 7: So it's a big deal for Shador Now he's taking
- 2:40Speaker 7: a step back again, and it's a big deal for
- 2:42Speaker 7: Cleveland because you have five quarterbacks on your team.
- 2:45Speaker 5: You got to cut that down and pick the best guys.
- 2:47Speaker 7: Now you're just gonna have to kind of decide who's
- 2:50Speaker 7: available for that opening day roster. Like that's a big
- 2:52Speaker 7: deal for Cleveland as well, because you can't evaluate any
- 2:55Speaker 7: of these guys.
- 2:56Speaker 6: I would say that based on even if he doesn't
- 2:59Speaker 6: play another game, Shudre is guaranteed to make this team
- 3:02Speaker 6: as a fifth rounder. That's crazy to say, you know why,
- 3:04Speaker 6: because the noise that comes with not keeping him after
- 3:08Speaker 6: playing well is is going to be deafening. And I
- 3:12Speaker 6: know that that organization say like, oh, we we don't care.
- 3:15Speaker 3: We blocked that out. But like it's a big deal.
- 3:18Speaker 2: So Flacco, Gabriel Sanders, pickets an odd man out.
- 3:25Speaker 6: Four probably four is absolutely unhurt. I think, yeah, when
- 3:33Speaker 6: they drafted quarterback, I think pickets the odd man out.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Now he might be. He might be their.
- 3:38Speaker 6: Best option to be a seventeen game starter if they
- 3:41Speaker 6: wanted it.
- 3:42Speaker 3: But to what end, I guess is what they would do.
- 3:46Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 3:49Speaker 6: Earlier I was thinking Flacco would be the odd man out.
- 3:52Speaker 6: But he's the one one saying healthy right now and
- 3:55Speaker 6: getting the most reps because nobody else is practicing. It'll
- 4:00Speaker 6: be interesting to see, but I think we can all
- 4:02Speaker 6: assume there's gonna be at least three startered starting quarterbacks.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Get that Jersey ready. There's gonna be names attitude.
- 4:12Speaker 6: Not to say that Dylan Gabriel or should or Sanders
- 4:15Speaker 6: won't be the long term option. I'm just saying for
- 4:18Speaker 6: this specific year because should Or showed. I mean I
- 4:22Speaker 6: was impressed watching and played just the mechanics of all
- 4:25Speaker 6: a great comfortability, the reads that he made. It was impressive.
- 4:29Speaker 6: It was impressive to watch. Okay, all right, big deal,
- 4:33Speaker 6: No big deal. I'm gonna look at Taylor right in
- 4:37Speaker 6: his face right now. I say this one. The Dallas
- 4:40Speaker 6: Cowboys contracts and a lot of negative albeit press, it
- 4:50Speaker 6: is press, and I think we've discovered that Jerry Jones
- 4:53Speaker 6: is the modern day PT Barnum as far as uh media,
- 4:58Speaker 6: as far as marketing goes and get an eye by
- 5:00Speaker 6: on his organization. He recently said that he loves the attention.
- 5:06Speaker 6: He would rather this basically interpreting the words that he said,
- 5:09Speaker 6: he would rather the attention on the Cowboys then make
- 5:12Speaker 6: a smart business decision for the team. So of course
- 5:16Speaker 6: they're famously having this argument contract negotiations with Micah Parsons,
- 5:19Speaker 6: one of the best players, if not the best defensive
- 5:22Speaker 6: player in the entire National Football League, which means the
- 5:26Speaker 6: entire world, and they will not pay him. They are threatening.
- 5:30Speaker 6: It seems like both sides have dug their feet in.
- 5:33Speaker 6: They are anchored into their position. Jerry Jones and his
- 5:37Speaker 6: side is saying that they had a deal verbally done
- 5:41Speaker 6: in the spring, and he's welcome to take that. But
- 5:43Speaker 6: it takes two sides like Parsons in them. They disagree,
- 5:47Speaker 6: they want a deal done, they want to renegotiate.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Both size are dug in.
- 5:50Speaker 6: But the biggest travesty that continues to be part of
- 5:54Speaker 6: the collecting collective bargaining agreement is the franchise tag, and
- 5:58Speaker 6: the Cowboys do hold more cards because they can just
- 6:01Speaker 6: franchise him and it's not just a bluff. They've done
- 6:04Speaker 6: it with Dak Prescott, and they were about to do
- 6:06Speaker 6: it for a second year with Dak Prescott and a
- 6:09Speaker 6: contract got signed like the morning of Game one, which
- 6:12Speaker 6: is insanity to me. So he's they're waiting and they
- 6:16Speaker 6: always pay more. Are they going to pay more this time?
- 6:19Speaker 6: It seems like this is not a bluff. They will
- 6:21Speaker 6: actually sit there in franchise tagging big no big deal.
- 6:25Speaker 7: Unfortunately, it's no big deal because I'm not surprised.
- 6:28Speaker 5: I mean, this is what Jerry does.
- 6:29Speaker 7: Jerry has turned the Dallas Cowboys into a soap opera.
- 6:33Speaker 7: He doesn't really care about what they do on the field.
- 6:35Speaker 7: And then to your point, they can always just franchise
- 6:38Speaker 7: tag him. So for a guy that doesn't care about
- 6:40Speaker 7: on field success and knows that he has the franchise
- 6:43Speaker 7: tag in his back pocket, Jerry ain't moving. Like Jerry's
- 6:46Speaker 7: whole point is just idiotic. Cause he talks about this
- 6:50Speaker 7: agreement they had in the spring. So the reports are
- 6:53Speaker 7: that him and Micah Parson's gonna have this quote unquote
- 6:55Speaker 7: a handshake agreement him without the agent, right, him and
- 6:59Speaker 7: Mike apart since one on one talked about it. Mike
- 7:01Speaker 7: was like, yeah, sure, that sounds good. I just kind
- 7:03Speaker 7: of want to get back to it. He ran it
- 7:05Speaker 7: back to his agent and was like, hey, here's the deal,
- 7:07Speaker 7: and his agent goes, no, no, no, no, I can get
- 7:10Speaker 7: you a lot more money. And now Jerry's like, well,
- 7:13Speaker 7: why don't we have to have the agent involved. I'm like,
- 7:15Speaker 7: you're pissed off because his agent's involved.
- 7:17Speaker 5: Everybody an agent in every single agreement has one. It's
- 7:21Speaker 5: a flawed way of thinking for a very flawed GM.
- 7:24Speaker 5: I'm not surprised.
- 7:27Speaker 2: That's no big deal because it's the Cowboys have been
- 7:29Speaker 2: relevant last thirty years.
- 7:33Speaker 6: So I think it's a huge deal because it highlights
- 7:38Speaker 6: what the NFLPA should have negotiated out of the CBA
- 7:43Speaker 6: a long time ago, which is the franchise tag.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean yeah, for sure, it's benefited like very few.
- 7:50Speaker 2: There's some there's some running backs that maybe not would
- 7:53Speaker 2: have gotten the payday they got. But for the most part.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Yes, when is it? When has it ever been a
- 7:57Speaker 3: positive thing?
- 7:58Speaker 2: There was a couple of years I think it was
- 8:00Speaker 2: Sprolls that we we franchised and he made like he
- 8:03Speaker 2: made some incredible money for the running back because running
- 8:06Speaker 2: backs just you just never know what you're going to get,
- 8:08Speaker 2: so any value, I think you get a running back,
- 8:10Speaker 2: but it's really the only position.
- 8:11Speaker 6: It's great for like one, but nobody wants to sign
- 8:14Speaker 6: a side a franchise tag, and it's the ultimate negotiation tool,
- 8:18Speaker 6: power move that the organization has over the player because
- 8:22Speaker 6: they're like, oh, you don't want to sign it, you're
- 8:24Speaker 6: under contract, blah blah blah. I can just franchise you
- 8:27Speaker 6: and lock you up. And then players like, well, no,
- 8:30Speaker 6: I can't get injured because I'm on one I'm on
- 8:33Speaker 6: this one year deal.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:34Speaker 6: Sure, I'm making decent money for really good money for
- 8:36Speaker 6: this one year. I got no security. I've like, I
- 8:39Speaker 6: don't have any long term commitment from the because when
- 8:42Speaker 6: in a world where the commitment is so one sided
- 8:46Speaker 6: between the organization and the player. Yeah, like, oh, players
- 8:49Speaker 6: got to play those contract. Well okay, well, organization, you
- 8:52Speaker 6: got am under five year contract. You can't cut them.
- 8:54Speaker 6: I give him the same breath. It's like, it's just
- 8:57Speaker 6: I think the franchise tag is awful, and I.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Think being able to cut somebody when you have a
- 9:03Speaker 2: contract and owing them nothing is.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Awful because it's such a it's such a stupid argument.
- 9:08Speaker 6: It's such a stupid argument the Bengals are making with
- 9:10Speaker 6: their defensive end and the Cowboys are making. He's under contract,
- 9:14Speaker 6: he's got to play it out like he's an employee
- 9:18Speaker 6: right now. He has to play it. It's so one sided.
- 9:21Speaker 6: Don't love it. And then the franchise tag makes it
- 9:24Speaker 6: even worse.
- 9:26Speaker 4: All Right, Alandra, I don't have a take on this,
- 9:31Speaker 4: but I do have a big yeah.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean look, I fell asleep the
- 9:35Speaker 2: Cowboys a long time ago. Like, it's very interesting in
- 9:37Speaker 2: the fact that the franchise tag deal situation, but the
- 9:40Speaker 2: Cowboys portion of it, and that.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Was really the most part. I was like, more interesting.
- 9:44Speaker 6: Yeah, hopefully it brings it to light that it becomes
- 9:46Speaker 6: more of a conversation that this needs to be negotiated out.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Sorry, I'm distracted. Landon just texted me. He said he's
- 9:55Speaker 4: bringing Benny up to us. Do we know like what
- 9:58Speaker 4: he's talking about? Because there's a Benny and he's Brazil.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:07Speaker 3: I wasn't sure.
- 10:08Speaker 2: I said, Okay, I said, policy big.
- 10:13Speaker 4: No big deal.
- 10:13Speaker 5: Benny Brazil and.
- 10:17Speaker 2: We're going to have an Olympian in the house, a
- 10:20Speaker 2: national champion. That's a big deal.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Okay, So my my actual big deal are no big deal.
- 10:24Speaker 4: I'm going to give you all two options and y'all
- 10:26Speaker 4: can let me.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Is he here?
- 10:28Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 10:28Speaker 4: Okay? Should I just should we just wrap this up?
- 10:30Speaker 3: We do want okay?
- 10:31Speaker 4: All right, I'm gonna give you.
- 10:32Speaker 8: All two options.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Do we want to talk the Athletics QB Tier list
- 10:36Speaker 4: or do we want to talk the Milwaukee Brewers.
- 10:38Speaker 2: The Milwaukee Brewers talking about QB tiers.
- 10:44Speaker 4: The Brewers are on their second double digit win streak
- 10:49Speaker 4: of the season, So they had a ten game win
- 10:51Speaker 4: streak earlier this season, and they're on the They're eleventh
- 10:55Speaker 4: game that they won in a row, thirty games above
- 10:59Speaker 4: five one hundred, which is just where did the Brewers
- 11:03Speaker 4: even come from? This is insane? But so there's only
- 11:08Speaker 4: ten or nine other teams that have done multiple double
- 11:12Speaker 4: digit win streaks in a season. So the twenty twenty
- 11:14Speaker 4: five Brewers, the twenty nineteen Astros, the twenty seventeen Dodgers,
- 11:19Speaker 4: fifteen Blue Jays, thirteen Braves, the two thousand and one Cardinals,
- 11:24Speaker 4: nineteen seventy eight Pirates, seventy seven Royals, sixty nine Mets,
- 11:27Speaker 4: and the sixty nine Astros. The Brewers on a heater,
- 11:33Speaker 4: big dealer, No big, that's.
- 11:34Speaker 3: A big deal.
- 11:35Speaker 2: There's a lot of people that would not know that
- 11:37Speaker 2: the Brewers are on that kind of a run. The
- 11:39Speaker 2: Brewers have a lot of great star players. Yellock, Yeah,
- 11:42Speaker 2: I mean he's he's like the veteran now, yeah, he
- 11:45Speaker 2: is he's like crazy, Yeah no, but they've got some
- 11:47Speaker 2: great prospects that have all kind of turned out and
- 11:49Speaker 2: get at the same time.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Ricky Caleb Durban's doing a great for them. Yeah yeah.
- 11:54Speaker 5: I don't know if you've heard On Palmer's take on this.
- 11:57Speaker 7: I think Hunt Palmer says the Milwaukee Brewers are cheating
- 12:01Speaker 7: because they don't have any good players, so how are
- 12:03Speaker 7: they winning.
- 12:04Speaker 5: So Hunt actually thinks.
- 12:05Speaker 2: The Brewers they have evaluated those players, and those players
- 12:09Speaker 2: are all up at the big league level now playing
- 12:11Speaker 2: really well.
- 12:11Speaker 6: At the same time, then they're an hour and a
- 12:13Speaker 6: half away from the Cubs.
- 12:14Speaker 4: Hat Murphy is they're a manager like they're cheating because
- 12:20Speaker 4: they're better than the Cubs.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Gotta be. They don't have to be. I just know it. Deep.
- 12:24Speaker 6: Sorry, sorry, as soon as you said the Braves, I
- 12:28Speaker 6: knew Jake is going big deal.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Thirteen Braves, twenty thirteen brads. Let's go all right, Uh,
- 12:35Speaker 2: we gotta take a break now because we've got Like
- 12:38Speaker 2: I said an Olympian Bennie Brazil, he heard the call,
- 12:42Speaker 2: he saw the bat signal, and now he's going to
- 12:44Speaker 2: be in studio with us when we come back here
- 12:46Speaker 2: on O TV.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 12:49Speaker 2: All right, go to Boudroselectrical dot Com heating up the
- 12:54Speaker 2: old Golf of America heating up. But don't worry because
- 12:58Speaker 2: there's activity already. I know that. But we all know
- 13:01Speaker 2: like it's not going to be the only time. And
- 13:02Speaker 2: right now they have over eighty generators ready to go.
- 13:05Speaker 2: They are in stock, ready for you to make that call.
- 13:09Speaker 2: They're gonna come out say exactly where they're gonna put
- 13:11Speaker 2: that slab, put that generator. We're talking about quick turnaround time,
- 13:14Speaker 2: so you are ready for storm season. It is not
- 13:17Speaker 2: too late. If you think it is, that is not
- 13:19Speaker 2: the case. Over eighty right now in stock ready to go.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Go to Budros Electrical dot Com to get everything squared away.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Now, yeah, it is not too late. Budro's Electrical.
- 13:29Speaker 6: They are locked, they are stocked, and they are ready
- 13:33Speaker 6: to rock. So give them a call today. They can
- 13:35Speaker 6: have it installed for you for this hurricane season. So
- 13:39Speaker 6: either give them a call or go to their website
- 13:42Speaker 6: and just talk about the options. That's Budro's Electrical dot Com.
- 13:53Speaker 1: From players to legends, Hester and Flynn breakdown LSU football
- 13:57Speaker 1: like only champions can.
- 14:06Speaker 2: I'm all right, welcome back, here in OTV one O
- 14:11Speaker 2: four five ESPN and Matton Rouge. We got a very
- 14:14Speaker 2: special guest in studio with us, now our former teammate
- 14:18Speaker 2: over at LSU, now still at LSU coaching the track team.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I got Benny Brazil. Benny b what's up?
- 14:24Speaker 3: Brother? Thanks for having me, Thanks for having me, Thanks
- 14:26Speaker 3: for having me.
- 14:26Speaker 2: I'm just glad. Look, I was like, hey, we gotta
- 14:28Speaker 2: get you on the show. You said nine fifteen, you
- 14:31Speaker 2: were here at nine ten. I mean, the man of
- 14:33Speaker 2: his word pun sure.
- 14:34Speaker 9: Hey, hey, you know we've been blessed with that situation.
- 14:38Speaker 9: He says, you're gonna do something. You gotta honor, you
- 14:40Speaker 9: know what I mean. We come from that coacher. Before
- 14:41Speaker 9: we start this, though, I have to give Matt Fleyn
- 14:46Speaker 9: his flowers. I haven't seen Matt in a while, and
- 14:49Speaker 9: I feel like the things he did in college, we're
- 14:52Speaker 9: gonna go back.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Matt.
- 14:53Speaker 8: I remember the a SEC Championship when JaMarcus got hurt.
- 14:56Speaker 9: Right that two thousand and five, Right, he gets hurt,
- 14:59Speaker 9: you gotta come in. I remember your first pass and
- 15:01Speaker 9: what happened on that out route, right, Yes, sir, but.
- 15:05Speaker 8: But you came back through all that adversity.
- 15:09Speaker 9: You know what I mean that Bowl game Miami, you
- 15:12Speaker 9: showed out, you came back and you showed us something.
- 15:15Speaker 9: You led us to that win. I have to get flowers
- 15:17Speaker 9: on that. But it's more to the story. You come
- 15:20Speaker 9: back the next year, right, JaMarcus is back starting. You
- 15:24Speaker 9: could have left, could have transferred. You know they had
- 15:26Speaker 9: a quarterback then. But you deal with that adversity. You
- 15:30Speaker 9: set there, you set back and just went through it right.
- 15:33Speaker 9: And that next year you had your time. You delivered
- 15:35Speaker 9: us a national champ right. So I want to always
- 15:37Speaker 9: give your flowers for that shoot. Always put you in
- 15:40Speaker 9: the list with quarterbacks.
- 15:41Speaker 3: We have come through L. S. Shoe.
- 15:43Speaker 8: We had a lot of talented guys, probably more.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Times than you. But you want us to ship and.
- 15:47Speaker 9: That's what matters. Like when you and your family go
- 15:49Speaker 9: out theater around bet and rouge. Matt Flinn shouldn't have
- 15:52Speaker 9: to pay. He's a champion.
- 15:53Speaker 8: He bought us a champions and that's the culture championships.
- 15:56Speaker 3: When it comes to L.
- 15:57Speaker 1: S U.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Free Benny, of course you go hang with him.
- 16:02Speaker 9: Everybody everybody's I had to give you flowers on that
- 16:06Speaker 9: was huge.
- 16:08Speaker 6: I gotta tell you, five year was so fun. I know,
- 16:11Speaker 6: so you and I played a lot, like at the
- 16:13Speaker 6: end of the game and things like that, but it
- 16:15Speaker 6: was just so fun that Tracy Smith was there calling plays.
- 16:17Speaker 6: Slid hilarious, dude, uh man. We had We had a
- 16:20Speaker 6: lot of fun, man, and you were a special part
- 16:21Speaker 6: of that. Every a lot of a lot of Benny
- 16:24Speaker 6: Brazil stories.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, the the only Benny story that we tell.
- 16:27Speaker 2: That's it's a little negative, but not because of what
- 16:30Speaker 2: Benny did, because of Coach Saban. The day we had
- 16:33Speaker 2: to run more one tens because Benny, who was doing
- 16:36Speaker 2: exactly what he was supposed to be doing, he was
- 16:39Speaker 2: making his times. There's a time Benny was coming in
- 16:42Speaker 2: under the time. But because Benny wasn't winning every race
- 16:45Speaker 2: and he was an Olympian, Coach Saban thought we needed
- 16:47Speaker 2: to start the whole one ten test over.
- 16:49Speaker 8: I apologize for that.
- 16:51Speaker 3: That's me. I'm wrong.
- 16:54Speaker 9: I apologize. You guys go through that. But it wasn't
- 16:56Speaker 9: just coach Saban. The other half of that was coach Maffitt.
- 16:59Speaker 9: Oh yeah, it was him.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:00Speaker 2: But but again, like you were doing everything that you
- 17:03Speaker 2: were supposed to do, you just weren't winning every race.
- 17:05Speaker 2: And like you're going to the Olympics and you're not winning.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Every race started over.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I apologize that was four. I mean you had summertimes.
- 17:15Speaker 9: That was four was so it had to be that
- 17:17Speaker 9: next year after that was summer time.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I guess five, like whatever summertime runs. I remember that.
- 17:22Speaker 9: We were like we're like what thirty one?
- 17:27Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, because when.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Were you out for the Olympics, Like you were outside
- 17:31Speaker 2: whole summer.
- 17:32Speaker 9: Train, just the summer training. You know what I'm saying
- 17:33Speaker 9: that I came back back at the very end. I
- 17:35Speaker 9: came back at the very end.
- 17:36Speaker 3: That's when that was really. I think that's where it was.
- 17:38Speaker 3: I remember I remember in mid stride that was tough.
- 17:43Speaker 8: You know, don't I don't think they run one teams
- 17:45Speaker 8: no more.
- 17:46Speaker 2: They don't.
- 17:46Speaker 3: It's changed.
- 17:47Speaker 2: They don't. I mean even like the guys that were here,
- 17:51Speaker 2: like Kirby Smart was here four and I remember asking
- 17:54Speaker 2: Kirby last spring, I'm like, what's the conditioning test now?
- 17:58Speaker 2: He's like, oh, hees, we don't do the one ten
- 17:59Speaker 2: stuff more. It's like we're not knuckleheads like we used
- 18:01Speaker 2: to be. We got the GPS and we know if
- 18:04Speaker 2: a guy is not working hard. We can tell and
- 18:06Speaker 2: we make him run after that, he's like now one
- 18:07Speaker 2: tens or a thing. In the past, Coach Saban didn't
- 18:09Speaker 2: run him at the end either. No shocks had to
- 18:12Speaker 2: change it a little bit. I heard it, but I
- 18:13Speaker 2: wish you needed that. Bill care You remember our fourth
- 18:16Speaker 2: like the fourth quarter program, Like I had to come
- 18:19Speaker 2: having the trash cans like every five yards, and I had.
- 18:22Speaker 3: To come out the track practice. That's changed. I had
- 18:26Speaker 3: to try right part in the evening.
- 18:29Speaker 9: Yeah, it was forty five. It was in the evening
- 18:33Speaker 9: time back then. So I had to come straight from
- 18:35Speaker 9: track practice to four quarter program. And then we're going
- 18:38Speaker 9: to these you know, we're doing all these stations and
- 18:40Speaker 9: then you get the coach net station.
- 18:43Speaker 8: I couldn't take that serious or something. But yes, good thing,
- 18:51Speaker 8: good times, good times.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Yeah, speaking of good times, Benny, I want you to,
- 18:57Speaker 2: uh look at it now. Don't listen. Don't pay attention
- 19:00Speaker 2: to how grainy this is.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Because we.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Played a long time ago, right, So look, we got
- 19:08Speaker 2: a Bennie Brazil, we got a Matt Flynn, we got
- 19:10Speaker 2: myself in here. We're all in the game. At the carry.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Carter a little shy up there in the eye. Let's see,
- 19:18Speaker 2: let's see how this play turns out for the law
- 19:20Speaker 2: Shoe Tigers against the Old Miss Rebels. My god, that's grainy.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Oh what a release by that fullback. Benny's five yard down.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Maybe the only time that Benny didn't get a celebration
- 19:38Speaker 2: penalty was on this touchdown right here because he was
- 19:42Speaker 2: good for two or three.
- 19:45Speaker 3: I've never been there before. I've never been there.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Any of those though that year and five did Benny
- 19:51Speaker 2: catch like at least six of those kind of passes
- 19:54Speaker 2: that were like fifty plus yards. It felt like good
- 19:56Speaker 2: time the Florida game and five good time day game. Yes,
- 20:00Speaker 2: Tiger Stadium. I think Jay Russ hits you maybe.
- 20:03Speaker 9: On the same play, yep, same thing in Arkansas. It
- 20:05Speaker 9: was a couple of them good times fellers. Wow, how
- 20:09Speaker 9: does that make you feel? How grainy that was? Though
- 20:11Speaker 9: it's a little it makes me look my age a
- 20:13Speaker 9: little bit, you know what I mean. But at the
- 20:15Speaker 9: end of the day, it was a touchdown. And like
- 20:17Speaker 9: they said, you want a championship, man, I don't care.
- 20:20Speaker 9: You want us a ship you went next. I can't
- 20:22Speaker 9: take that from us.
- 20:23Speaker 3: I think it's got to be a bad download.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Right YouTube, you went to LimeWire to get that.
- 20:29Speaker 5: We were talking about it yesterday like this was five.
- 20:32Speaker 5: This looks like in nineteen seven. You gotta have a
- 20:35Speaker 5: better one than that.
- 20:36Speaker 9: Crazy That was coach Madains first year, right, Yeah, Yeah,
- 20:41Speaker 9: that was such a good team.
- 20:42Speaker 2: It was a great team. Tough year obviously with Hurricane Katrina.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Where we're supposed to start the season planning against I
- 20:48Speaker 2: believe North Texas. That game gets canceled. We're supposed to
- 20:51Speaker 2: play Arizona State across the street. Yep, that doesn't happen.
- 20:54Speaker 2: We have to fly out to Arizona. I remember that Tempee.
- 20:56Speaker 2: They were a good team that were ranked teams.
- 20:58Speaker 3: It was we got kind of lucky. Yeah.
- 21:01Speaker 2: We we blocked the kick for a touchdown. Ye blocked
- 21:05Speaker 2: the punt for a touchdown. Then JaMarcus hits early on
- 21:08Speaker 2: a play that if it gets reviewed.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Out of the game.
- 21:10Speaker 5: Yeah, but it worked out.
- 21:13Speaker 3: It worked out.
- 21:15Speaker 2: If if that season it was a normal season, I
- 21:19Speaker 2: think LSU compete for a national champion.
- 21:21Speaker 8: I totally agree. But the next year, no excuse six.
- 21:25Speaker 9: Yes, I think that was one of the greatest chance
- 21:27Speaker 9: we ever had on paper, offense and.
- 21:29Speaker 2: D four first round picks.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Totally agree.
- 21:31Speaker 8: So that team there no way that should have won
- 21:33Speaker 8: to ship.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Losses to Florida on the road in Florida on the road, Yeah,
- 21:38Speaker 2: that's what it was. We lost to Auburn, was like
- 21:41Speaker 2: nine to six or something something, low scoring game.
- 21:43Speaker 8: Yeah, but as far as talent wise, both sides of
- 21:45Speaker 8: the ball was amazing.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I'm with you. I'm with you. Now that season ended,
- 21:49Speaker 2: it ended well beating Notre Dame at the Sugar Bowl, but.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Suld have done more. Totally agreed.
- 21:54Speaker 2: That was a window of now in four I don't
- 21:57Speaker 2: know if y'all agree.
- 21:57Speaker 3: We were We're.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Okay, We're just three football team. Yeah, we had some town,
- 22:01Speaker 2: we had some you know, we had seaweb and spears
- 22:03Speaker 2: on those guys. Ton, but we lost a ton because
- 22:06Speaker 2: you won the national championship. But five O six there
- 22:10Speaker 2: should have been at least one championship in those times.
- 22:12Speaker 3: I totally agree.
- 22:14Speaker 6: Yeah, when both those teams were clicking, playing its best
- 22:18Speaker 6: football game plan, everybody healthy, like there was no team better.
- 22:21Speaker 6: Certainly like there's no team in O six beating the
- 22:25Speaker 6: team that showed.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Up at the Sugar Bowl. Totally agree. Nobody, nobody even
- 22:28Speaker 3: closed what did you.
- 22:29Speaker 9: Think the problem was in O six with you guys,
- 22:31Speaker 9: because we were already we had left.
- 22:32Speaker 3: So what was different those?
- 22:35Speaker 2: I mean just two close road losses. So okay, I'll
- 22:37Speaker 2: tell you what. At Florida, we're at the swamp. We
- 22:41Speaker 2: score first, we hit like a two forty six Yukon
- 22:44Speaker 2: score first, boom, and we're going in for our second score.
- 22:49Speaker 2: And I think we were on fullback belly. I think
- 22:51Speaker 2: we're at the ten. I think I get it down
- 22:53Speaker 2: to the one. I still think I scored whatever they
- 22:55Speaker 2: call it, down the one first and goal from the one.
- 22:56Speaker 2: We're good, Okay, Jerry Russ Fommelton next. Now fumbled at Florida,
- 23:02Speaker 2: got it they went, they scored, and now we're talking
- 23:05Speaker 2: about we were gone up. I think a couple of scores.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Now it's like tid game crazy. And then that was
- 23:09Speaker 2: t ba's first ever jump pack Tibo mania. That was.
- 23:14Speaker 2: That was a tough game and we could not do.
- 23:15Speaker 2: The defense tried. It's one of those games. The defense
- 23:18Speaker 2: tried to keep us in it for as long as
- 23:19Speaker 2: they could, but put him in bass situations. We had
- 23:25Speaker 2: special teams play. I think I missed you. I don't
- 23:28Speaker 2: remember who it was. And might have been somebody somebody
- 23:30Speaker 2: muffed the punt.
- 23:31Speaker 3: I think something like that.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Yeah, those two road games at Auburn and that floor.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Now we're talking today's college football with that resume the playoffs.
- 23:39Speaker 9: So I think in our times, I think it was
- 23:42Speaker 9: just different and I think we had a standard. When
- 23:44Speaker 9: I say that, at that time, it was either BCS
- 23:46Speaker 9: a Bush. Remember that BCS the Bush. That's the standard.
- 23:50Speaker 3: You know. If we didn't go to the BCS, I
- 23:51Speaker 3: mean Texas Bowl. No disrespect of those bowl games, no bowl,
- 23:55Speaker 3: no disrespect to them. But that was not standard, you
- 23:57Speaker 3: know what I mean.
- 23:58Speaker 9: And I think when it comes to L s U
- 24:00Speaker 9: football and some sports, the standards of championships a bus.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think it should be that. Like I
- 24:05Speaker 2: think like if you ask Jay Johnson what the standard
- 24:07Speaker 2: is championships, he's not gonna tell you anything like record.
- 24:10Speaker 2: He's gonna say, omaha, So what he's gonna say? I mean,
- 24:13Speaker 2: same thing you us Kim Mulky like, hey, what's the standard?
- 24:15Speaker 2: She's gonna tell your final fours? Track, same way, rack
- 24:18Speaker 2: and field, Like you've got a standard that you are
- 24:19Speaker 2: going to try to list like now that it's a
- 24:21Speaker 2: twelve team playoff for LSU, because you're right, like it
- 24:24Speaker 2: was a BCS game when we were in school, there
- 24:26Speaker 2: was only so many of those. Now that's a twelve
- 24:28Speaker 2: team playoff. It's playoff or bus And if it's not
- 24:31Speaker 2: that way, then you don't need to be here. Like
- 24:33Speaker 2: in any sport, I'm talking any sport. I love, just
- 24:36Speaker 2: got any sport.
- 24:37Speaker 3: I think that's the expectation, certainly the expectation this year.
- 24:40Speaker 3: It's gotta be. And you said us.
- 24:42Speaker 6: In track, tell us about your coaching track, tell us
- 24:44Speaker 6: about what you're doing, your role right now and your
- 24:47Speaker 6: day to day.
- 24:47Speaker 3: No good question.
- 24:49Speaker 8: So we kind of like an off season at this point.
- 24:51Speaker 9: Right now, you got people getting ready for world championships
- 24:54Speaker 9: coming up, so preparing for their different countries us say,
- 24:57Speaker 9: anybody else that's on our team, So they're preparing for
- 24:59Speaker 9: that situation. But when it comes to the collegiate wise,
- 25:01Speaker 9: we're getting ready to start practice.
- 25:03Speaker 3: I want to say. We always go to day after.
- 25:04Speaker 9: Labor Day, we get the fall training going on everybody
- 25:08Speaker 9: and we're getting this ball rolling. So for the most part,
- 25:10Speaker 9: we just ended up with recruiting and everything at this
- 25:12Speaker 9: point and were just ready to get the season started.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Couldn't you coach Matt Flynn to run the three hunters hurdles?
- 25:19Speaker 9: No, sir, I cannot do that. I wouldn't want to
- 25:22Speaker 9: see that. Like I said, Matt's already made men.
- 25:25Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 25:25Speaker 9: He bought He bought LSU a championship. So I feel
- 25:28Speaker 9: like when you bring LSU a championship, you in a
- 25:30Speaker 9: different category.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Is it something you did like all growing up as well,
- 25:33Speaker 2: or is that something like you kind of found later
- 25:35Speaker 2: on as you got the l shoot good.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Question in high school.
- 25:40Speaker 9: In middle school, I was just running regular and I
- 25:42Speaker 9: was just trying.
- 25:43Speaker 3: One day, I say, you know, let me try this.
- 25:45Speaker 9: I was just trying it one day and I had
- 25:46Speaker 9: to I was running the sprint hurdles, and I had
- 25:48Speaker 9: to want two three one two three.
- 25:50Speaker 8: It just came natural.
- 25:51Speaker 9: So at then I just start doing it, you know
- 25:52Speaker 9: what I mean. And I around seventh grade. I started
- 25:55Speaker 9: eighth grade, I was okay. Ninth grade, I kind of
- 25:58Speaker 9: started coming a little bit. But I sophomore year in
- 26:00Speaker 9: high school, guess.
- 26:04Speaker 6: I can't believe you say you can't coach me to what?
- 26:06Speaker 6: But I guess my my high school coach did tell
- 26:08Speaker 6: us that, like you can't win the Kentucky Derby with
- 26:11Speaker 6: a jackass. I guess that's the statement, right, I guess
- 26:14Speaker 6: I guess I'm the jackass.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Well, I mean you said it, not me. Uh you
- 26:23Speaker 2: mentioned like I don't even know if we were on
- 26:25Speaker 2: air when you said this, but like, you know, used
- 26:27Speaker 2: to go like track practice, football practice. We always tell
- 26:29Speaker 2: stories about the guys that played baseball. Uh, you know
- 26:32Speaker 2: Chad Jones, you, Jared Mitchell, Chris Jackson. It was a
- 26:35Speaker 2: part of team with us, like they would change on
- 26:37Speaker 2: their way to the box and go play baseball. Uh,
- 26:40Speaker 2: so you've done it in the track world as well.
- 26:42Speaker 2: So Jelanney Watkins is trying to do that, like right now,
- 26:45Speaker 2: Like what, like what are the challenges because it's I'm
- 26:48Speaker 2: sure like a different mindset obviously, Like he is so
- 26:50Speaker 2: good on the track, he's so good on the grid iron.
- 26:53Speaker 2: What is it like trying to make sure that you're
- 26:55Speaker 2: in the right mindset depending on what sport you're at.
- 26:58Speaker 9: I think that's good question as well too. I think
- 27:02Speaker 9: for the most part when it comes to it with
- 27:03Speaker 9: us as being like athletes, because we love both, right,
- 27:06Speaker 9: we love football and we love track. So the crazy
- 27:08Speaker 9: part about it is when you win football season, you
- 27:11Speaker 9: win football season, you're thinking about track, and when you're
- 27:13Speaker 9: in track season, you're thinking definitely about track, you know
- 27:15Speaker 9: what I mean. So for the most part, it all
- 27:17Speaker 9: comes together because sometimes when you at track practice, you
- 27:20Speaker 9: got to be able to go back to the spring ball,
- 27:22Speaker 9: spring meetings and.
- 27:22Speaker 3: All that kind of aspect of it.
- 27:24Speaker 9: So you just got to keep your mental right, I mean,
- 27:27Speaker 9: just stay positive best way you can, because we already
- 27:29Speaker 9: know you're gonna go through some adversity. I think in
- 27:31Speaker 9: our time what made it different. We were red shirted, right,
- 27:33Speaker 9: So in our time it was okay to be red shirted.
- 27:35Speaker 8: Right these days, yeah, we wouldn't know you got it.
- 27:39Speaker 9: Hester you got it, you played at the true freshman congratulations.
- 27:42Speaker 8: But for the most part, it's okay to be red shirted,
- 27:45Speaker 8: you know what I mean.
- 27:45Speaker 9: So I think these days and age, when guys get
- 27:47Speaker 9: red shirted, they go in a tank guard this cre
- 27:50Speaker 9: and I know it's hard social media. Just imagine if
- 27:52Speaker 9: we are all roommates in college US three. Yeah Heester's playing,
- 27:55Speaker 9: we're not playing. Were red shirted, and the social media stuff
- 27:58Speaker 9: is going on, We're gonna feel some time way, you
- 28:00Speaker 9: know what I mean. So you got to be able
- 28:01Speaker 9: to block that out the best you can, Like coach
- 28:04Speaker 9: Sabman always said, block out the rat poison.
- 28:06Speaker 6: Yeah, I canque on how you handle your track athletes
- 28:11Speaker 6: because it's it's such a different sport than anything else
- 28:14Speaker 6: because they do have like the Olympics, the World's thy
- 28:18Speaker 6: goa right, and different meets outside of just LSU. So
- 28:21Speaker 6: like when you're coaching somebody, are you kind of like
- 28:24Speaker 6: end up being their personal coad? Do you travel with
- 28:26Speaker 6: them and coach them up for these different events?
- 28:29Speaker 9: It just depends on what the track media is whatever
- 28:32Speaker 9: it is, Like I feel like collegian legs because under twenties,
- 28:35Speaker 9: but usually like World Championships and Olympics for the most part,
- 28:38Speaker 9: Kochhev would be there, but if it's part of our
- 28:40Speaker 9: sprinting athletes, I'll be there as well with them as
- 28:42Speaker 9: well too. That's anybody on our staff, you know what
- 28:43Speaker 9: I mean. So how it comes to that aspect, but
- 28:45Speaker 9: it just depends on it. But the number one thing
- 28:47Speaker 9: is the NCAA Championship, coach Benning, right, that's number one.
- 28:51Speaker 8: Then Olympics and everything else. But the main thing is
- 28:54Speaker 8: the main thing.
- 28:54Speaker 9: Yeah, So I think at the end that you focus
- 28:56Speaker 9: one in that national championship first and go to everything else.
- 28:59Speaker 6: I would assume more like but I was saying, those
- 29:01Speaker 6: outside meets kind of help with recruiting athlete.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Big time, big time.
- 29:05Speaker 8: They see it that way, but I feel like it
- 29:07Speaker 8: helps out.
- 29:07Speaker 9: But you know, the number one thing is changed now
- 29:09Speaker 9: it's all about nil, So I think that's kind of
- 29:11Speaker 9: important as well too. So I feel like the resume
- 29:13Speaker 9: really doesn't matter no more of what you've done, and
- 29:15Speaker 9: it's about what can you do for me?
- 29:16Speaker 1: Now?
- 29:17Speaker 2: Give me your favorite play you were involved in l
- 29:20Speaker 2: s U football, l SU football.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Favorite your favorite one?
- 29:23Speaker 2: My favorite one because my mind, I'm not even like
- 29:26Speaker 2: it's O five versus Florida, like I said urban Meyer,
- 29:29Speaker 2: I believe his first year there. I want to say
- 29:31Speaker 2: they came in maybe even as a favorite. In that game.
- 29:34Speaker 2: It is a CBS Day game. It was hotter than
- 29:36Speaker 2: hot obviously, and Benny kind of closed the door on that.
- 29:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say that that was my first touchdown.
- 29:41Speaker 3: It was huge. That was really huge for the game.
- 29:44Speaker 3: I thought that was huge.
- 29:44Speaker 2: You get a fifteen year pal, I did got it.
- 29:46Speaker 3: I got in trouble.
- 29:47Speaker 8: You know, I got you know, I got cussed out
- 29:49Speaker 8: on Monday.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Coach Mouse got me remember that meeting.
- 29:52Speaker 9: Yea next time again, next time I see you again
- 29:56Speaker 9: on the sideline, You're gonna be on the sideline with
- 29:58Speaker 9: me next time.
- 29:59Speaker 8: I act like he been there and I was like,
- 30:01Speaker 8: I haven't.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Jimbo said, well, you know, he's right, you haven't been
- 30:04Speaker 3: there before.
- 30:06Speaker 6: But let me let your celebration. Your yours is like
- 30:09Speaker 6: the most genuinely like positive.
- 30:12Speaker 3: It wasn't look at me. It was just like, I'm excited.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Let me celebrate. We gotta we got to celebrate together.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Don't worry, listeners, We'll we'll find that clip at some point.
- 30:22Speaker 2: We'll play that Florida touchdown. Benny Man, you're the man.
- 30:24Speaker 2: This has been a lot of fun. Probably, Like I said,
- 30:27Speaker 2: I mean, it's like open door policy. Whenever you want
- 30:29Speaker 2: to come in if track has something going on, football like,
- 30:32Speaker 2: it doesn't matter. If you just want to come hang out,
- 30:34Speaker 2: you got an open door.
- 30:35Speaker 9: I appreciate that, but that's not I forget the standard
- 30:37Speaker 9: of LSU is championships had some of the greatest individual
- 30:41Speaker 9: athletes come through LSU before one of the best ones ever.
- 30:44Speaker 3: I mean, hey, Shack, right, Shack was good.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Yeah, good.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Shout out to Uncle Mallett.
- 30:48Speaker 9: You know Sharik, my little nephew. Shaq was one of
- 30:50Speaker 9: the greatest to come through l s U. But he
- 30:52Speaker 9: didn't win. I still love him though. It's about championships.
- 30:55Speaker 3: It is. Look at this, Look at this.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Let's go back. Yeah, we got the clip. Let's go back.
- 31:01Speaker 2: It's so funny that that guy, oh wit, this is
- 31:03Speaker 2: grainy too. My gosh, it's just this is not good.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Look I see you face Jones with the block Benn
- 31:11Speaker 2: in Brazil down the sideline fifteen yards. That got him
- 31:15Speaker 2: fifteen yards. That right there got Benny fifteen yards.
- 31:18Speaker 3: So good. And think for myself that a team coaches
- 31:25Speaker 3: haven't been there, haven't been one of the.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Benny. We appreciate it. I appreciate it.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Thanks for having me.
- 31:30Speaker 2: All right, we'll take a break when we come back.

- 32:41Speaker 1: to off the Bench, all.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Right, welcome back, Yeah, OTV one of four five VESPN
- 33:00Speaker 2: Ben Rouge. We apologize getting too munchies a little bit
- 33:03Speaker 2: late here, but Chef We appreciate your time. As always,
- 33:06Speaker 2: our guy, Bennie Brazil came in studio surprise us. It
- 33:10Speaker 2: was awesome. I know you probably see Benny all the
- 33:12Speaker 2: time there y, you know, probably in the cafeteria certainly
- 33:16Speaker 2: serving food and nutrition at center. So we had Benny
- 33:20Speaker 2: on our guy. So we apologize for the tardness, but
- 33:23Speaker 2: you know, Benny, I mean lights up a room. We
- 33:25Speaker 2: had to have Bennie on for like twenty minutes.
- 33:28Speaker 10: Benny's one of my favorites for sure. Man, I love
- 33:30Speaker 10: Benny's death. I'll take a back seat to Bennie any
- 33:32Speaker 10: day of the week.
- 33:35Speaker 2: All right, chef, Like, how's it going, how's everything like? Camp?
- 33:38Speaker 2: We know, man, this is a time where it's just
- 33:40Speaker 2: like every single time you turn around, you probably feel
- 33:42Speaker 2: like you're trying to feed an athlete.
- 33:44Speaker 10: Yeah. You know, yesterday I asked somebody what day of
- 33:47Speaker 10: the week it was twice and what time it was
- 33:51Speaker 10: twice because I've been losing tractive days and you know,
- 33:55Speaker 10: at like five o'clock in the afternoon yesterday, I wasn't
- 33:58Speaker 10: sure if it was five AM or five MS. So, yeah,
- 34:01Speaker 10: it happens.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Hashtag of munchies hunting season is three weeks away. What's
- 34:05Speaker 2: your favorite wild game to cook eat?
- 34:08Speaker 10: Oh that's a good question, man, And honestly, I have
- 34:11Speaker 10: you know, like I thought about hunting a deer for
- 34:12Speaker 10: the first time like two days ago, and I don't know,
- 34:16Speaker 10: you know, it's probably gonna be deer. I mean, I've
- 34:19Speaker 10: I've never hunted an elk before, but I think it
- 34:22Speaker 10: could be something larger than a deer. But it's it's
- 34:26Speaker 10: always going to be something that's in the moment fresh,
- 34:28Speaker 10: you know, Like I like to peel the backstraps out
- 34:30Speaker 10: of a deer and cook them. I'd like I like,
- 34:32Speaker 10: I like eating rabbit, you know, like I just kind
- 34:35Speaker 10: of enjoy you know, the hunt and the kill and
- 34:38Speaker 10: and reaping the rewards of it. So I don't I
- 34:41Speaker 10: don't know that I have a favorite species, although there
- 34:45Speaker 10: is something really special about shooting a wild boar and
- 34:47Speaker 10: eating it, you know, like that not everybody eats wild
- 34:50Speaker 10: boar but I but I do. And I take a
- 34:52Speaker 10: particular fondness for because not only are you killing a
- 34:56Speaker 10: creature and you know, like putting it on the plate,
- 34:58Speaker 10: but you're also helping me in vironment and doing so yeah.
- 35:02Speaker 6: Yeah, the backstrap off while board is incredible and oh yeah,
- 35:05Speaker 6: and then just to add to that, my favorite would
- 35:08Speaker 6: be the Mallard duck breast like a.
- 35:11Speaker 10: Fresh yeah so good, yeah.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Very good.
- 35:15Speaker 6: Yeah chef hashtag munchies here putting together my wedding registry.
- 35:20Speaker 6: What do you recommend for kitchen utensils, wood and metal
- 35:23Speaker 6: for different things?
- 35:24Speaker 10: Yeah? Man, you know, like I think every kitchen has
- 35:27Speaker 10: to have a sort of a set of really good
- 35:30Speaker 10: wooden like spoon sets and and and ladles and such.
- 35:33Speaker 10: And you know, I just yesterday I was looking at
- 35:36Speaker 10: an olive wood set because pretty the wood is really dense.
- 35:40Speaker 10: Olive wood is uh, super tolerant of abuse in the kitchen.
- 35:44Speaker 10: There's some other woods, but they're a little bit more precious,
- 35:47Speaker 10: and I you know, like they're they're good wood, good
- 35:50Speaker 10: woods to use, but they're kind of controversial as to
- 35:53Speaker 10: whether we should be using them or not. And I
- 35:56Speaker 10: like damboo in the kitchen honestly, so I think some
- 35:59Speaker 10: one of those. I think a wine opener is important,
- 36:05Speaker 10: you know, like a proper wine opener, you know, because
- 36:07Speaker 10: if you're if you're when I'm cooking at home, I
- 36:10Speaker 10: you know, like I kind of get passionate about what
- 36:11Speaker 10: I'm doing and you know, sharing that moment with my
- 36:13Speaker 10: loved ones. So I think that that's important. You know,
- 36:17Speaker 10: my knives are are like an extension of my hands
- 36:20Speaker 10: man and having the right tool for the right job
- 36:24Speaker 10: is important. So a good set of knives is always important.
- 36:27Speaker 10: I'm a Woostoff guy. I carry Woostos. There's other more
- 36:30Speaker 10: affordable knives out there, but I have a knife for
- 36:33Speaker 10: every task. I probably have. I probably have one hundred
- 36:37Speaker 10: knives somewhere shape or form over between the kitchen and
- 36:42Speaker 10: the house of you know, like different you know, like
- 36:44Speaker 10: cheese knives and and different different tasks and such. I
- 36:49Speaker 10: don't know why, but I have a I have a
- 36:52Speaker 10: real fondness for a particular type of calendar. You know
- 36:55Speaker 10: that it's I in particular, you know, like a sturdy,
- 36:58Speaker 10: stainless steel And I found one just the other day,
- 37:01Speaker 10: And you guys are gonna be like, what the hell's
- 37:03Speaker 10: wrong with chef. But it's a it's a very steep,
- 37:05Speaker 10: sloped sided calendar I think lets the water and the
- 37:10Speaker 10: materials flow out easier versus a broader, broader based one
- 37:15Speaker 10: that you know isn't going to sit inside the kitchen
- 37:17Speaker 10: sink and so I just have an appreciation for the
- 37:20Speaker 10: well thought out things that are quality, that do their
- 37:23Speaker 10: job well.
- 37:24Speaker 6: Is there something in it, like a kitchen tool or
- 37:26Speaker 6: utensil that is like a frequent gift that people give
- 37:30Speaker 6: to somebody, and like when you go to someone's house
- 37:31Speaker 6: they pull it out and you just kind of cringe, like, ugh,
- 37:34Speaker 6: that's that's kind of dumb.
- 37:35Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, like a garnic press. It's one of
- 37:38Speaker 10: those things. I kind of like, it's amentary gardic. It
- 37:40Speaker 10: doesn't take three seconds, you know. Like, but I do
- 37:45Speaker 10: like a lemon dreamer, which is kind of weird, you know,
- 37:47Speaker 10: because it kind of I don't know. Well, I'm actually
- 37:51Speaker 10: not going to go down the road. I hear the
- 37:53Speaker 10: voice of T Bob in my ear, you know, going
- 37:55Speaker 10: down this path of what a rumor is. And so
- 37:57Speaker 10: I'm just gonna call now.
- 38:01Speaker 2: A good idea hashtag munchies, any good healthy meal ideas
- 38:05Speaker 2: that I can cook at a beach house for eleven
- 38:08Speaker 2: people that's not too time consuming.
- 38:12Speaker 10: You know. I love putting together a fresh falsa or
- 38:15Speaker 10: thebch and letting its fit, you know, because it can.
- 38:18Speaker 10: And I like to take if you you know, if
- 38:20Speaker 10: you have the fish available to you. You know, I
- 38:22Speaker 10: think I was just in grand Al not too long
- 38:25Speaker 10: ago when we caught fresh snapper and put it, you know,
- 38:27Speaker 10: put it in the bowl and the incidity helps it.
- 38:30Speaker 10: It actually proves itself better to sit it on the
- 38:33Speaker 10: table and let it fit, because it cooks better that
- 38:35Speaker 10: way rather than refrigerated. And you know, you can just
- 38:39Speaker 10: throw it together and pull some chips and people enjoy
- 38:42Speaker 10: it for what it is. And if you make a
- 38:43Speaker 10: big batch of it, you know, like I don't know,
- 38:45Speaker 10: I love sabch and I love I love salsa, but
- 38:48Speaker 10: you know, you can turn a salsa into a fruity
- 38:50Speaker 10: salsa with paink pineapples and mangos and such, and you know,
- 38:53Speaker 10: I think the kids will eat it that way rather
- 38:54Speaker 10: than it just being spicy. But if I'm at the beach,
- 38:57Speaker 10: I'm it is almost certain I'm going to have one
- 38:59Speaker 10: of those two things, chef.
- 39:02Speaker 6: The are some like health safety controversy on nonstick pants.
- 39:09Speaker 6: Do you use like traditional store bought nonstick pans or
- 39:12Speaker 6: do you kind of just season up the cast ire?
- 39:15Speaker 3: How do you work with the nonstick?
- 39:17Speaker 10: I did not use nonstick, specifically teflon coded so the
- 39:21Speaker 10: controversy behind teflon is is that it doesn't have a
- 39:24Speaker 10: half life, but it is a forever chemicals and if
- 39:26Speaker 10: you ingest that if it starts flaking and gets into
- 39:29Speaker 10: your food, it can you know, it will stay in
- 39:33Speaker 10: your body for your life. And there is proven like
- 39:39Speaker 10: there is a particular chemical company out there that produced
- 39:42Speaker 10: this material that has been sued time and time again
- 39:45Speaker 10: for like the past thirty years and lost and that
- 39:47Speaker 10: they are still paying out because the where they started
- 39:51Speaker 10: producing teflon was soaking into the ground and started making
- 39:55Speaker 10: the township sick and the cattle sick. And so it's
- 39:58Speaker 10: not a matter of whether it is is an absolute
- 40:00Speaker 10: and so you know, the idea is that it's intact
- 40:04Speaker 10: in the pan, it's nonstick. But if it's not and
- 40:06Speaker 10: it's flucking a way, it is a car synergen and
- 40:09Speaker 10: and we just we just don't mess with it. I
- 40:13Speaker 10: prefer to get a fan. I like stainless, and I
- 40:16Speaker 10: like copper, and I like cast iron outside of those three.
- 40:20Speaker 10: You know, like if you hear somebody say there's this
- 40:23Speaker 10: new science behind nonstick, you know, food has been around
- 40:27Speaker 10: for a long time, you know, metallurgy has been around
- 40:30Speaker 10: for a long time. I trust what I understand, and
- 40:33Speaker 10: I know, so when you.
- 40:34Speaker 6: Make when you're making like a fried egg on a
- 40:36Speaker 6: stainless or a copper you have to use plenty of oil.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Is that how we we fit?
- 40:41Speaker 10: Yeah, proper heat, the proper proper amount of heat in
- 40:44Speaker 10: the in the in the proper amount of oil. And
- 40:46Speaker 10: you know, like if you I think that those nonstick
- 40:50Speaker 10: pans are meant for absorbing lesser talents, is cook in
- 40:55Speaker 10: the kitchen? You know? Yeah, yeah, exactly. And so I
- 41:00Speaker 10: prefer to you know, I'm a man of education. I
- 41:02Speaker 10: like to teach people versus you know, kind of simplified
- 41:06Speaker 10: or done myself down to the less least common denominator.
- 41:09Speaker 10: I would prefer to throw people. And so I'm gonna
- 41:12Speaker 10: teach you how to cook in the right fan.
- 41:14Speaker 2: There he is, Chef Michael Johnson, good enough to join
- 41:17Speaker 2: us every single Thursday to answer your munchie questions. LSU

- 44:40Speaker 6: That's just called being held back.

- 44:54Speaker 2: I got here. Maybe maybe a red shirt did not.
- 44:57Speaker 6: Hold you in seventh grade. I'm sitting there halfway through
- 44:59Speaker 6: the cool year. I walks in from streetport evangel transferred
- 45:05Speaker 6: to our middle school, had a mustache.

- 45:12Speaker 3: Can good friends with them too?

- 45:22Speaker 2: it first the way I said it, because it kind
- 45:24Speaker 2: of skipped past me. That's actually funnier if we just
- 45:27Speaker 2: have an intern that holds the whiteboard note inroom held
- 45:29Speaker 2: held drag race boys, I go back down. I actually
- 45:32Speaker 2: like the intern idea better. Could you bring that in? Please?
- 45:36Speaker 2: Thank you?
- 45:37Speaker 3: Of course we are a radio show. Still we are
- 45:40Speaker 3: on YouTube. Obviously, smash the light, smash.
- 45:44Speaker 5: Subscrub off the bench.
- 45:53Speaker 2: It's good dismount there, perfect landed uh tailgating seasons here?

- 46:09Speaker 2: to ask him that question.
- 46:11Speaker 3: Go for dose?
- 46:12Speaker 2: You imagine you know you're you're here, you're getting excited
- 46:16Speaker 2: for the home opener against Louisiana Tech, and you're watching
- 46:20Speaker 2: some ball games before then, got your feet up. You
- 46:23Speaker 2: got the TV going, the tent right above you. You
- 46:26Speaker 2: open up the ice chest and you see a couple
- 46:28Speaker 2: of ice cold dough seqis and it is always a
- 46:30Speaker 2: great time. But the perfect time is tailgating season.
- 46:34Speaker 3: They got that cold Mexican loger. They have the Amber especial.
- 46:38Speaker 6: They got some special ones today. They got like the chilada,
