- 0:07Hello, I'm Matt and I am a psychic medium but
- 0:10it has taken me quite a while to feel comfortable
- 0:13saying that. In my podcast, I explore the up
- 0:17and down journey of getting comfortable with
- 0:20my psychic and mediumship abilities. I'll be
- 0:23talking with guests about their experiences whilst
- 0:26turning the spotlight onto myself and figuring
- 0:28out how I can embrace my gifts while living a
- 0:32normal life. So welcome to The Psychic Explorer.
- 0:41Hello everyone and welcome to this very special
- 0:44episode. For those of you listening live, you'll
- 0:47have noticed there's been a huge pause. I released
- 0:50the last episode at the end of January. And we're
- 0:53now halfway through April, at least at the time
- 0:55of recording. And it's been a funny one. I felt
- 0:59like I really needed to just stop the podcast
- 1:02because I wasn't necessarily happy with where
- 1:04it was going. It was a little bit too spontaneous.
- 1:07I didn't really know where it was heading. And
- 1:10so I've taken this lesson to just stop. And that's
- 1:13a good lesson for everyone, I think. Just to
- 1:16stop, think, and assess where we want to go.
- 1:20I came back from Asia and I felt really good
- 1:24it was a new year a new beginning and then life
- 1:29happened things happened in life and that got
- 1:32me a bit down I wasn't motivated and I thought
- 1:36who am I to tell you that life is rosy life is
- 1:41good when I was feeling the way that I was but
- 1:44now I've come back I've got a plan things are
- 1:47more organized And I'm really looking forward
- 1:49to showcasing some fantastic guests. I've already
- 1:53recorded a few episodes, so I'm not going to
- 1:56be kidding myself by trying to get them out to
- 1:58you. And this episode is a special one. Today
- 2:03I'm interviewing psychic medium, mentor, teacher,
- 2:07Dana Willie. Not only is she all of those things,
- 2:10but she's also a podcaster. So I really felt
- 2:13the pressure was on because I wanted to make
- 2:15sure it was right. Her podcast really shone a
- 2:19light to me when I was going through this journey
- 2:22when I was in quite a dark space It made me realize
- 2:27that You didn't have to be totally woo -woo to
- 2:30do all this stuff You could live a normal life
- 2:33and still be in touch with these abilities And
- 2:36when I felt like I wanted to join another circle
- 2:38I went to Dana's online circles, which I felt
- 2:41were really supportive, it was a space where
- 2:44you could make mistakes, it was a space where
- 2:46you could practice different modalities. If I'm
- 2:51coming across as a bit gushy, it's because I
- 2:53do hold Dana in such high esteem, partly because
- 2:56the words that she uses are so full of light,
- 2:59the philosophy that she talks about, it really
- 3:02touches me, but also because of the impact that
- 3:06she had on me at the beginning of my journey.
- 3:10In this conversation, Dana focuses on trust.
- 3:14Trust in spirit, trust in mediumship, and more
- 3:18to the point, trust in yourself. And I feel it's
- 3:22such an apt topic to come back to you from this
- 3:26break to discuss. You know that my previous episodes
- 3:30have focused quite heavily on self -doubt. And
- 3:34I've really hoped that Dana's... words fill you
- 3:37with confidence that you may need, the confidence
- 3:41that you might need to be reminded that you have.
- 3:44Because once you find the confidence to trust,
- 3:48you find the confidence to be yourself. And this
- 3:51was such a poignant message that came through.
- 3:54So I hope you enjoyed this interview. Listen
- 3:57to her words, and I hope they fill you with as
- 4:00much inspiration as they did me. Here's the recording,
- 4:03guys. Dana Willie is a psychic medium who took
- 4:16steps to explore her abilities in 2017. Since
- 4:19then, Dana has studied under renowned mediums
- 4:22and mentors including Eileen Davies and Megan
- 4:25Alisa, as well as attending the Arthur Finley
- 4:27College here in the UK. Together with her good
- 4:31friend and fellow medium Matthew Tao, Dana co
- 4:34-hosts the excellent podcast I'm A Medium Ask
- 4:37Me How, as well as the supernormal podcast in
- 4:40which she, Matthew and Megan, discuss how they
- 4:43feel about the paranormal and other spooky topics.
- 4:46Dana offers a unique but grounded approach in
- 4:49her readings and teaching. She has been proudly
- 4:51serving Spirit as a mentor and teacher since
- 4:542020 and runs weekly online circles sitting in
- 4:57the power meditations as well as a supportive
- 5:00online space which allows participants to practice
- 5:03the modality of their choice. So I am really
- 5:07feeling the pressure today because not only am
- 5:09I interviewing someone I really respect and admire
- 5:12but I'm also interviewing an experienced podcaster.
- 5:15Dana, welcome to the Psychic Explorer. How are
- 5:18you? I'm so honored to be here. I got very tearful
- 5:22when you said proudly serving spirit because
- 5:25I think that's what we all do and I think that's
- 5:28what we endeavor to do. And I think I gave you
- 5:32a bio and you just spiced it up in the most lovely
- 5:36way. And I'm so honored by the words you chose.
- 5:41Like I said, that's all I ever hoped to do when
- 5:45I ever stepped forward in this. I know you mentioned
- 5:492017, but that is when I kind of got the nudge.
- 5:54I had been pulled to work, or I had an awareness
- 5:59of spirit my whole life. It was like, oh, that's
- 6:01just kind of what it was. But in 2017, I finally
- 6:05got that... that tickle that it was like finally
- 6:09I've got to figure out if this is real or if
- 6:10there's something to this. And I never had the
- 6:14intention of being a professional or teaching
- 6:17or being a podcaster or anything like that. And
- 6:20I think at the end of the day, that's all I ask
- 6:23for is to serve the spirit world. And you do
- 6:28it so well. Regular listeners will have already
- 6:32heard your name on previous episodes. I've spoken
- 6:35about your excellent, wonderful podcast, I'm
- 6:37a Medium. It was fundamental in helping me realise
- 6:41that what I was feeling could actually be real.
- 6:44It helped me to not feel quite so alone on this
- 6:47journey. And actually something you have taught
- 6:50me, Dana, not only in your podcast, but also
- 6:53in your circles, is that you just have to trust.
- 6:56And I find that really difficult at times, especially
- 6:58coming to this from a sceptical point of view,
- 7:02particularly from grief as well. It's really
- 7:04tough to think, is this just my brain protecting
- 7:07me? Is this real? So today I am trusting that
- 7:11all will go well and that it should be all good.
- 7:14But before we delve into the topic of trust,
- 7:17I would like to start at the beginning and I
- 7:19would really be interested to know what brought
- 7:22you to this path and how did you begin exploring?
- 7:27Yeah, so I, as I said, I had like this awareness
- 7:31my whole life, you know. I always called to like
- 7:35this one memory. It was like, you know how you
- 7:37have that first memory as a kid or whatever.
- 7:39But I remember going to my great grandma's house
- 7:42and like being like, there's this one room and
- 7:44I was like, I think grandpa died in that room.
- 7:47I didn't know that. And my mom got really freaked
- 7:49out. And I had this like awareness at that point,
- 7:51like, oh, these aren't things we talk about.
- 7:54And so I just kind of suppressed it and it was
- 7:56like something we don't talk about. And then,
- 8:00At the age of 11, my dad died. And isn't it funny?
- 8:05Not funny, but this is so much how we are drawn
- 8:08to this path. And from that moment on, from the
- 8:12moment that my dad passed on, this just was what
- 8:16I do. And I just became, amongst my friends and
- 8:19family, the person that talked to her dead dad
- 8:21all the... the time and that was just normal
- 8:24and it was like that was okay like people could
- 8:26compartmentalize that and like and it was very
- 8:29normal for me that I just had this interaction
- 8:32with my dad all of the time he was omnipresent
- 8:35with everything I was getting signs I just knew
- 8:38when he was around and it was like okay fine
- 8:41it's my dad and I'm very comfortable with that
- 8:44which is quite interesting because so many of
- 8:46my students feel like they can connect for others,
- 8:50but they have a hard time connecting with their
- 8:51own loved ones, where for me, my loved ones were
- 8:54almost the ones that taught me how to do mediumship.
- 8:58And then it just progressed and it was like I
- 9:00went from being the girl that talked to her dead
- 9:02dad all of the time to I couldn't go to the grocery
- 9:06store without Aunt Edna popping in or feeling
- 9:10the awareness of somebody else's energy and it
- 9:14became a lot of psychic hits all of the time.
- 9:17It wasn't even mediumship to the point where
- 9:19it was just like I just would have awarenesses
- 9:22and I would feel other people's feelings and
- 9:23I just didn't, I lost me. I lost. who I was because
- 9:28I was so aware of my surroundings, of everything
- 9:31that was going on, of I just, I didn't want to
- 9:35leave the house anymore, and it didn't feel good
- 9:37anymore. And it actually started earlier than
- 9:402017, but I had started going to therapy, and
- 9:44my therapist said to me, you know, you might
- 9:46be an empath, and I was like, I don't know what
- 9:48that was, and I went to Google, and I was like,
- 9:50tick, tick, tick, tick, yeah, I have all of those
- 9:53things. And I started to deep dive into like,
- 9:56how would I not be an empath? How can I start
- 9:58protecting myself? And it's funny because now
- 10:01I teach an empath class of like how to protect
- 10:04yourself and how not to go into the world and
- 10:07be this huge sponge. And through this whole journey,
- 10:10it was like me finding me and the authentic part
- 10:13of me. And in 2017 is when I finally was like,
- 10:18I got to figure out if I'm making this shit up.
- 10:20I'm sorry, I cuss, Matt. You know this about
- 10:23me. No, you're fine. Honestly, you're all good.
- 10:25I should always... And if you listen to my other
- 10:28podcasts, you would know that I really do cuss.
- 10:32I feel like the spirit world probably cusses
- 10:34too, but it's fine. Oh, honestly, it happens
- 10:36to me all the time. Whenever I swear when I'm
- 10:38doing a reading, my face -to -face mentor looks
- 10:40at me and says, Matt, cut it out. But I'm like,
- 10:44it's what I'm feeling. It's what I'm channeling.
- 10:46It's funny. I had this is so funny. And I promise
- 10:50I'll get back to my story. But I had a spirit
- 10:53led reading that I was doing the other day and
- 10:55the grandfather came forward and the first thing
- 10:57I knew I had an awareness that it was a grandfather
- 10:59straight away. And then immediately he immediately
- 11:03he said, son of a bitch. And I was like. I'm
- 11:06really going to say this, but that's how she
- 11:08knew it was her grandpa right away because that's
- 11:10all he used to slap his knee and say, son of
- 11:12a bitch. And it was funny because Eileen Davies,
- 11:15who I'd studied with, oh God, she would have
- 11:17freaked out if I would have done that, if I would
- 11:19have done that in one of her classes. But I don't
- 11:22know. It was funny. Anyway, 2017, I decided to
- 11:26go to a development circle because I needed validation
- 11:29because you had mentioned something about being
- 11:31skeptical. And I highly recommend being skeptical.
- 11:35I don't think we're skeptical enough in the spiritual
- 11:37community. I think we buy everything hook, line,
- 11:40and sinker. We go to every metaphysical shop,
- 11:42buy every crystal and every smudge stick, every
- 11:46book, every whatever. And we buy every guru,
- 11:51every whatever without really fundamentally testing
- 11:54it and evidentially looking at it. which is why
- 11:57I love mediumship so much, because there is evidence
- 12:00behind it. So I went to my first development
- 12:03circle in 2017 after doing a lot of meditation,
- 12:06a lot of deep diving, and I went, oh shit, I'm
- 12:10actually good at this. And I remember calling
- 12:11my husband on the way home from that going, there's
- 12:14actually something to this. And from then on
- 12:18out, but I always say like I did not intend on
- 12:21doing this professionally I didn't go to that
- 12:24first development circle with the intention of
- 12:26like I'm this is this is my life This is what
- 12:29I'm gonna be doing now. It was just to see if
- 12:32I was crazy or not so That's that's how I got
- 12:36here. It's strange, isn't it? Because so many
- 12:40people I talked to about this they Their catalyst
- 12:44is the same. It's grief And I find that so fascinating,
- 12:49morbidly fascinating maybe, that this opens up
- 12:54from the same place. It's part of our human condition
- 12:59and I've come to realize like who among us hasn't
- 13:04experienced some layer of trauma or loss or discomfort,
- 13:08right? And I think that it... The spirit world
- 13:13communicates through us through the language
- 13:15of feeling. I truly feel like emotion, sensation,
- 13:19feeling is the number one way that the spirit
- 13:21world is going to communicate with us. And we
- 13:23need that language of emotion or feeling to communicate
- 13:28that heart to heart, soul to soul connection.
- 13:31So to me, in so many ways, it would only make
- 13:33sense for us to be good mediums and good communicators
- 13:37for us to have that. that alphabet, that language
- 13:41for them to use. If everything was wonderful
- 13:45and we had never had anything to reference or
- 13:49use, because so many of us, I mean, Matt, you've
- 13:52become such a beautiful medium in your own practice.
- 13:56How many readings do you have where everybody
- 13:59just dies lovely as an old lady in their bed
- 14:02at the age of 92? You know, people die of overdoses,
- 14:07they die because they were really horrible people
- 14:09to the people in their life. They cheated, they
- 14:13stole, you know, people aren't, they do bad things
- 14:17when they're here. They die of unfortunate circumstances,
- 14:20and that's part of the story. And I think we
- 14:23have to sometimes live through some difficulties
- 14:27to be able to tell their story sufficiently and
- 14:31accurately. You mentioned earlier that you were
- 14:35the kid who was talking to your dad after he
- 14:38had passed, and I can only imagine the dynamics
- 14:41and situations of that in itself could have brought
- 14:44up. But I wonder, when you decided to step onto
- 14:47your path, how did your friends and family treat
- 14:50you? Did they treat you differently? Yes. So
- 14:54it's always weird coming out of the woo closet
- 14:57is what I like to call it. The people that I
- 15:01thought would really support me didn't necessarily,
- 15:05and the people that I thought would didn't. It
- 15:09was kind of this very interesting thing. I slowly
- 15:16shared this with the people. as I felt comfortable
- 15:20with it. I had a best friend who we used to go
- 15:24get readings together all the time before I started
- 15:27development and she was very much part of the
- 15:30whole development process. Obviously my husband
- 15:32knew. He was highly skeptical of everything.
- 15:36He started really our whole relationship together
- 15:40as an atheist, then kind of warmed up as an agnostic
- 15:43and came into all of this very skeptical and
- 15:45now has become like my biggest fan. So kind of
- 15:49even meeting him at his interest level where
- 15:52I had a best friend that was like, oh my God,
- 15:54Dana, tell me every reading, tell me every little
- 15:56thing to him going like, what the fuck are you
- 15:58doing? You know, my mom was very supportive,
- 16:02but everybody kind of was different. Like I had
- 16:07friends that I had not shared any of this with.
- 16:11And as I started to come out of the woodwork,
- 16:13I remember one of them calling me and going,
- 16:16what? Who? Where? Because some of this I kept
- 16:21very private to me. And so I feel like as we
- 16:27navigate this, first it's become something very
- 16:30personal and special to us. And wanting people
- 16:35to accept it and love it as much as we do is
- 16:38a tender thing. But I always encourage people
- 16:41to like meet people wherever anybody else is
- 16:45at. You know, I know you're in the UK, but like
- 16:49in America, like religion is such a big deal
- 16:52and proselytizing and you come believe and that's
- 16:56not what this is. This is for me. If you're interested,
- 17:00I'm happy to answer questions, but realizing
- 17:03like this is just part of me. And if you want
- 17:05to learn more, I'm happy to answer it for you.
- 17:08But like, you kind of have to be comfortable
- 17:11with who you are and not care what people think.
- 17:14Now, all that being said, when people, if I'm
- 17:18on an airplane and people ask me what I do, I
- 17:20don't particularly like to tell them I do this
- 17:23stuff. If I'm just meeting somebody at a cocktail
- 17:26party, this is not the icebreaker that I want
- 17:29to tell people. I was at a friend's 50th birthday
- 17:32party, like in December, and I was telling everybody
- 17:35like, oh yeah, no, I do this, I do that. And
- 17:39then somebody else knew what I did and they're
- 17:40like, oh my god, this is the girl. This is the
- 17:43medium. And I was like, oh yeah. So, and then
- 17:45everybody's starting to, yeah. A party trick.
- 17:48Mm -hmm. Then your party trick and like, can
- 17:50you do it now? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, so far on
- 17:56this journey, it sounds like you've had a lot
- 17:58of confidence. You came out to people around
- 18:02you to say you could do this, but did you have
- 18:06any self doubt? Tons, tons. I think that was
- 18:13the biggest thing for me. The imposter syndrome
- 18:17is probably my biggest, my biggest Achilles heel
- 18:21in my mediumship. The thing that got in the way
- 18:24of my surrender, the biggest. You know the foundations
- 18:30the fundamentals of how we connect as mediums
- 18:33very very simple The thing that will always get
- 18:35in the way of our mediumship is our humanness
- 18:38Our inability to just say the thing to be vulnerable
- 18:43and just go I'm just gonna say it or in to believe
- 18:46in ourselves To want to do it. Perfect. I was
- 18:50a and am always going to be a perfectionist and
- 18:54so if it wasn't perfect I didn't want to do it
- 18:56or all of that. So actually building up the confidence,
- 19:02believing in myself was a huge thing. Even, and
- 19:06I don't, knock on wood, like I feel like I've
- 19:11got it pretty under wraps, but I don't feel like
- 19:14I got it pretty under wraps until even two years
- 19:16ago. This journey can go on forever. We all know
- 19:20we never stopped learning either in life or on
- 19:23this path in particular. But I find it interesting
- 19:26because I was talking to my face -to -face circle
- 19:29leader last night and she'd been doing this for
- 19:3130 years and she was saying she had no self -doubt
- 19:35like from day one that she knew what was going
- 19:37on and she had a lot of confidence I said to
- 19:41her oh my god. I am so envious of you I wish
- 19:44I had that confidence or at least had had that
- 19:48confidence when I first started out ask me this
- 19:51question and I'll ask you this question, Matt.
- 19:54Ask me how much my self -confidence got in the
- 19:56way of my day -to -day life and I'll tell you
- 19:58it was the same as it got in the way of my mediumship.
- 20:02Same level. So I would ask you the same, like
- 20:05how much do you get in your own way of believing
- 20:07in yourself in your day -to -day life, right?
- 20:10So the same things that are going to inhibit
- 20:13our connection and our mediumship is the same
- 20:16themes and processes that are getting in the
- 20:18way of us. moving forward in our day -to -day
- 20:21life. You know, at Mediumship with Heart, what
- 20:27Matt and I founded that company with is that,
- 20:31yes, again, the foundations of Mediumship are
- 20:35very easy to learn. It's the personal development.
- 20:38That's 90 % of your Mediumship development is
- 20:41the personal development. And for me, it was
- 20:45the confidence. It was, that was my, like, personal
- 20:49development piece that I had to be confident
- 20:53in myself. And within that, I always said that
- 20:56mediumship allowed me to be the most authentic
- 20:59that I had ever been in my life. I was the queen
- 21:02of putting on masks for other people. What do
- 21:05you need me to be? How can I people please for
- 21:10you? You can't do that with mediumship. It either
- 21:14is or it isn't. All of those masks are stripped
- 21:18away. You're just bare. This is who I am. And
- 21:23then within that, you have to have confidence
- 21:25of, like, and I'm OK with wrinkles and with all
- 21:30of it. I'm OK with this. And that's the personal
- 21:34development. I like to think that there's a phrase
- 21:37I've coined and it's being comfortable with the
- 21:40uncomfortable. You just got to put yourself out
- 21:43there and do it. And also, look at your past,
- 21:48look at your trauma. Work through those issues.
- 21:52I said on an episode a few episodes back now
- 21:55about the bullying I experienced when I grew
- 21:57up. And it took me about five attempts to record
- 22:00that episode because every time I got to a certain
- 22:02part, my brain would just freeze up and I would
- 22:05go, oh, I don't know what to say next because
- 22:08I hadn't really dealt with the issues. And it
- 22:11wasn't until I... recorded that episode, that
- 22:13I realized that the people in my life that I
- 22:16judge, the people in my life that I avoid, that
- 22:20all stems from the bullying in my childhood.
- 22:24When that bully cast their stone into the lake
- 22:30of my childhood, the ripples from that stone
- 22:33are still radiating out now and affecting my
- 22:36adulthood. Absolutely. So I was going to ask
- 22:40you, if you think there is a link between getting
- 22:44through or past the traumas that was your catalyst
- 22:48and getting past any self -trust issues. But
- 22:53Ash, I think you might have answered that already.
- 22:55Yeah, no, a hundred percent. And it still pops
- 22:59up. But the trust part will always be there.
- 23:04You know, I want to make sure we talk on that
- 23:06because trust is such a big thing you even when
- 23:11you're talking about the bullying and things
- 23:13like that trust is such a huge part of mediumship
- 23:19and it was you know even within my imposter syndrome
- 23:23it was me trusting myself you know I always ask
- 23:28the students like do you trust the spirit world
- 23:30that they're gonna show up because they're already
- 23:32here do you trust and oh yeah yeah okay now do
- 23:36you trust yourself and that's always like the
- 23:38thing because I didn't feel worthy enough I had
- 23:41a worthiness issue so it wasn't me not trusting
- 23:45them it was me not trusting me it was not me
- 23:50believing in my own worthiness that I was good
- 23:52enough that I was okay enough that I was whatever
- 23:56I needed to be but the spirit world chose me
- 23:59or pulled me to this for a reason I speak about
- 24:02it being your special spice for whatever reason,
- 24:05like I may not be the medium for you, but Matt,
- 24:09you might be the medium for somebody, right?
- 24:11Like your voice, your story, the way my dad died
- 24:16might be the vocabulary I need to touch your
- 24:19heart to bring your loved one through. That is
- 24:24I just need to show up and and trust that. I'm
- 24:29being pulled to be here in this moment, in this
- 24:31time. And you said it being comfortable in the
- 24:34uncomfortable. It allows us to just show up and
- 24:38trust that we were pulled to show up in this
- 24:40moment and just be there. And that trust part
- 24:43is, once we allow for that trust, that's when
- 24:47everything, that's when the game changes. I really
- 25:02hope you're enjoying this conversation with Dana
- 25:04Willey. I find her words so full of light. Just
- 25:14a reminder, if you wanted to reach out to me,
- 25:17you can find me on Facebook, Instagram and threads
- 25:20at the .psychic .explorer. Let me know if you
- 25:29know of anyone that you would like interviewed,
- 25:31if there's anybody that inspires you. I'm always
- 25:33on the lookout for people who I find interesting,
- 25:36who I think you might find interesting. So you
- 25:38know where to go, like and subscribe and all
- 25:40that jazz. But now let's get back to Dana with
- 25:45some more practical tips on how to trust in not
- 25:49only yourself, but also in spirit. So Dana, do
- 25:58you have any personal rituals or practices which
- 26:02help strengthen your trust with spirit? And I
- 26:06find it interesting what you were saying before
- 26:08the break about trusting in spirit or trusting
- 26:10in self because I've got written here as a question
- 26:12Trust yourself or trust in spirit. So I will
- 26:16let you decide which one you want to answer on
- 26:18that one. Yeah It's so funny because I used to
- 26:22be the ritual queen like I used to have to burn
- 26:26Palacento and like I used to like go around my
- 26:29room with like a bell and like I mean it was
- 26:32like a full -on orchestration before I did anything.
- 26:37Full on woo woo. Full on. The woo was in the
- 26:40house. I'm just kidding. Yeah, no, I don't do
- 26:47anything. magical or crazy anymore. I think sitting
- 26:51for spirit. I think, again, building that trust,
- 26:55building that relationship. I have been just
- 27:00blessed to work with some amazing mentors and
- 27:03teachers, even the teachers that weren't great
- 27:05that I don't put on my resume of people that
- 27:08I've learned from. I've learned a lot from them
- 27:11too. But who I learned the most from are my guides
- 27:14and helpers and from the spirit world and we
- 27:17don't do that unless we sit with them and so
- 27:20sitting with sitting for spirit um i like to
- 27:25do it daily i like to be a good girl and say
- 27:27i do it daily sometimes i don't sorry to interrupt
- 27:30you but for listeners who might not know what
- 27:32that means could you explain what that is yeah
- 27:35so it's called sitting in the power some say
- 27:40sitting for power whatever you choose to say
- 27:43but it's really sitting without any intention
- 27:46for anything to happen it's opening up our power
- 27:49our awareness our energy letting that blend with
- 27:53spirit energy and really just being attuned in
- 27:57whatever way we need to be the best instrument
- 28:00we can. So that's also inviting our guides, our
- 28:03helpers, our friends from the other world to
- 28:07work on us. And maybe one day our clairvoyance
- 28:12is getting worked on. Maybe one day we're feeling
- 28:15emotional or whatever. But within that, I feel
- 28:20that connection and that attunement each day
- 28:23is the best thing that has helped me in that
- 28:26trust, in that building of a relationship with
- 28:30the spirit world. We talk about, if you haven't
- 28:33ever heard of the term of being spiritualized,
- 28:36of like, yeah we can say I'm giving you all of
- 28:39this evidence, but this is that touching, that
- 28:42feeling, that tangibility. that, you know, I'm
- 28:46talking to the invisible person in the room.
- 28:49But for us as mediums, this is the tangibility
- 28:52factor. So sitting for me is is my ritual, if
- 28:58you will, or even, you know, I sit weekly for
- 29:02trance and do certain things like that that have
- 29:05really enhanced that tangibility, that that thing
- 29:09that allows trust that when I feel that like.
- 29:12that little shift or that change in the room
- 29:15that I'm like, there they are. I know that they're
- 29:17here. So that's my ritual. For many, fear might
- 29:22come from the thought of making a mistake or
- 29:26saying the wrong thing during a reading. Then
- 29:28would I be able to invite you to be vulnerable
- 29:31and share with our listeners a mistake which
- 29:34you have made during your practice? And how have
- 29:38you learned from that mistake? Well first I love
- 29:43the word no. The word no from a sitter does not
- 29:46scare me and in your development first and foremost,
- 29:51becoming neutral to that word is going to be
- 29:53your superpower. So I always tell my students
- 29:57that the word no is never going to go away. So
- 30:00the more that we can just embrace that, the better.
- 30:05I think what a few mistakes that we make as mediums
- 30:09is walking away from the evidence because we
- 30:12got it now. Instead of giving our full trust,
- 30:16coming back to that trust to the spirit world
- 30:19because we know without a shadow of a doubt that
- 30:23we got the evidence that we did, we run away
- 30:25from the piece of evidence because our sitter
- 30:27said no. When everything that they're telling
- 30:30us is like, no. nope this is something this is
- 30:33something uh instead of revisiting that no seeing
- 30:37where the evidence is leading us there's been
- 30:41so many times where in my earlier readings things
- 30:47like that i ran away from evidence because the
- 30:51confidence because i was like well they said
- 30:54no i'm gonna i want to be right i want to be
- 30:56right i think the no's can can lead us in a beautiful
- 31:02direction in a reading. So I don't fear nos at
- 31:06all. I think the other thing that I made a mistake
- 31:12with early on, and this is less in my ratings,
- 31:15but more so just in my understanding of spirituality,
- 31:19and it's really framed where I've moved everything
- 31:22here forth, is I listen to a lot of people. and
- 31:28their opinions on things and their takes on things
- 31:31and you know God there's in every society and
- 31:34every religion and and gosh I'm just one of many
- 31:39mediums out in the world that has their opinion
- 31:41on things. Take what resonates for you and leave
- 31:44the rest. I took on other people's practices
- 31:48and their and their beliefs of like stuck spirits
- 31:51and things like that and it never resonated for
- 31:54me but because somebody else told me That's what
- 31:57I thought at the very beginning of my development.
- 32:01And so I was doing rescue circles and and stupid
- 32:05shit like that that there was no proof or evidence
- 32:08for. And, you know, sometimes we don't know better
- 32:11because we we don't do better because we don't
- 32:13know better. But it makes me sad because somebody
- 32:17felt like their loved one was stuck or got bad
- 32:20information. And so I always learned when I when
- 32:26that dogma was unpacked of like, no, that's not
- 32:29true. They're all OK. I've never not been able
- 32:32to contact somebody. What does a stuck spirit
- 32:35feel like versus a not stuck spirit? Wait, they
- 32:38all feel the same. So what's a stuck versus a
- 32:41not stuck? Right. And so when I started to unpack
- 32:44that, I was like, this is just all biases that
- 32:47we bring to the table. And maybe it was part
- 32:51of my evolution and maybe it was part of what
- 32:53I needed to figure out on my own. But I think
- 32:57unpacking why do you believe what you believe
- 33:01is one of the best things that I would impart
- 33:03to anybody as we embark on any spiritual practice,
- 33:09right? We all come to the table with how we were
- 33:11raised culturally, how we were raised religiously,
- 33:14how we were whatever. And then we go to these
- 33:17different places and they're like, believe this,
- 33:20believe this, believe this. What does the evidence
- 33:22show you? What are you moved by? And then being
- 33:25flexible through the rest of your life to let
- 33:29it move you or change you in whatever way that
- 33:33the evidence or your experience actually does
- 33:35without having it. Because we will always try
- 33:40to, because we're human, try to make something
- 33:44fit to fit our dogma, right? So I think that
- 33:48was one of the biggest. I don't know if I answered
- 33:50your question, but I think that was one of the
- 33:52biggest mistakes I made early on in my development.
- 33:55It's interesting because the things you are saying
- 33:58are resonating with me and they are similar to
- 34:03the themes that my face -to -face mentor talks
- 34:06about. And you're right because I went to a circle
- 34:10before the one I go to currently and it was great
- 34:13because it got me on the road and it allowed
- 34:17me to practice. But there were some things that
- 34:19they were saying in there which didn't quite
- 34:21sit right with me. They weren't horrendous at
- 34:23all. It was a great experience, but they didn't
- 34:26quite resonate with me. But I never stood up
- 34:31and said that that didn't feel right to me. And
- 34:34as we talk about trust, we compare ourselves
- 34:38to people who have been doing this for much longer.
- 34:41And I certainly thought, well, I can't say anything
- 34:43because they obviously know more than I do. But
- 34:46actually, when it comes to it, your truth is
- 34:48just as valid. And ask questions, you know, ask
- 34:54questions. I think that's the I just took what
- 34:57somebody said is gospel because they had been,
- 35:01to your point, doing it longer than I had. And
- 35:03like, what makes you think that way? What was
- 35:06what's been the thing that made you have that
- 35:10experience or that opinion or that whatever?
- 35:14Ask questions. Look at the history of practices
- 35:18you know when I um I got a reading once and she's
- 35:23like you need to clear your house you need and
- 35:25I was like okay how do I do that she's like sage
- 35:27and I was like okay that's something I have regret
- 35:31about because I wish I would have researched
- 35:33it and I now I know now I know better I do better
- 35:38um but I have regret over using white sage and
- 35:42using somebody else's practice that was not mine
- 35:45to use But I think that is our responsibility
- 35:48of as we know better, we do better. And as we
- 35:52have curiosities about different practices of
- 35:55like, where does this come from? Where does it
- 35:59stem from? Is it appropriate for me to be using
- 36:02that practice? because I think so many of us
- 36:06just like jump in because we're scared or because
- 36:09we're like somebody told us to do it and they
- 36:11know better. Okay, well then I guess I'll do
- 36:13it. Ask questions. And if you're not in a place
- 36:16that is accepting of those questions, you're
- 36:19in the wrong place. I know you said earlier on
- 36:22that the best thing people can do is to sit in
- 36:25a power. Let's go a bit deeper than that though.
- 36:28What if someone is still struggling with the
- 36:33reality of this. They're still not convinced
- 36:35that actually this is real. What advice could
- 36:39you give someone who might feel that there is
- 36:42something going on but can't quite get past the
- 36:46woo -woo -ness of it or can't get quite past
- 36:49the idea that this could be real? I mean... Hold
- 36:54off. What's the rush in making a decision first
- 36:58off? First off, there's no pressure. I, first
- 37:04off, welcome skeptics to watch me read all the
- 37:07time. I think that just come and watch other
- 37:11readers read. There's plenty of places that you
- 37:18can watch different demonstrations. Are you moved?
- 37:24Are you moved by what you're seeing? Is there
- 37:26discernment? I mean, I'm a stickler for that.
- 37:29I'm still a skeptic. I believe in the spirit
- 37:32world, and I believe that there's connections.
- 37:34I believe there's evidence. But I will watch
- 37:36readers read, and I'm like, you're not connected.
- 37:39Because that's my understanding of like, yeah,
- 37:42you're cold reading. You're just giving Barnum
- 37:44statements. And I, as a teacher, understand all
- 37:48of the tricks of the trade of like, yeah, you're
- 37:50full of shit. You're not actually connected.
- 37:51to anything. So it's okay to be skeptical. I
- 37:55think having grounded skepticism, even to what
- 37:59I was saying previously about asking lots of
- 38:02questions, continue to ask lots of questions.
- 38:05There is no rush to conclusion on any of this.
- 38:09Have an open grounded skeptical mind. You can
- 38:13be spiritual and still do those things. So watch
- 38:17people them, see live demonstrations. They're
- 38:21on Zoom, they're on public platforms like social
- 38:25media, in different spiritualist churches. You
- 38:28can go see things like that. Go to development
- 38:32circles. Do it for yourself. That was it for
- 38:37me. So I wouldn't have necessarily believed that
- 38:40I was actually doing this, doing this, until
- 38:42I could read for a complete stranger that there
- 38:45is no way that I knew anything about and bring
- 38:49un -Googleable information. There's just no way.
- 38:54So that was what I needed for me to move the
- 38:58needle for me. It was actually the same for me.
- 39:01I used to say I need a certificate from someone
- 39:04at psychic University to say that I can do this
- 39:07Yeah, and it's with enough consistency to like
- 39:10I mean we can all have a lucky guess or a flash
- 39:13in the pan but it's like this is happening with
- 39:16enough like Rant, you know consistency with people
- 39:20that there's no way like I don't know them. I've
- 39:23never met them I'm pulling information like there's
- 39:27there's there's no way so Looking back over the
- 39:32years, what has Dana's biggest challenge been
- 39:36since she began exploring? Being in too big of
- 39:47a rush. I think being in too big of a rush to
- 39:52get somewhere and not enjoying each and every
- 39:57part of the journey. I wish that I would have
- 40:02taken a little bit more time and enjoyed every
- 40:07little second of it a little bit more before
- 40:10rushing to the next step, before rushing to the
- 40:12next step. I'm a very competitive person by nature
- 40:16and I don't know, I'm just that person. And so
- 40:21I wish I would have enjoyed it. a little bit
- 40:23more. What I didn't realize that I wish I would
- 40:27have realized at step one was that this journey
- 40:30is never over. You might get put on a pedestal
- 40:36every once in a while and people might look at
- 40:38you like, oh, you're great. You're amazing. There's
- 40:42always somebody better than you. If you get into
- 40:47this comparison game, it is a loser's game. You're
- 40:56gonna look at the Eileen Davies of the world,
- 40:59the Gordon Smiths of the world, and you can compare
- 41:01yourself to them, and you can compare yourself
- 41:03to the mediums of the past, and you're gonna
- 41:06kill yourself. Enjoy where you are at this moment.
- 41:13The other thing that I would offer is your mediumship
- 41:17is going to go, and your psychism even, is going
- 41:20to go through different phases. I have had phases
- 41:26where it's just on fire. Like I don't know what,
- 41:30like if I took my vitamins or like I don't know
- 41:34if like the moon is in the right station. I don't
- 41:37know, but like something happens and I'm pulling
- 41:40names like it's whatever and everything is just
- 41:43going smoothly and then something shifts and
- 41:45something changes. but it's meant to shift and
- 41:49change and that's part of being on the journey
- 41:51and it can be really frustrating because it can
- 41:54be like is this thing on top tap tap it can be
- 41:57really really frustrating when our mediumship
- 42:00changes but remembering that our mediumship is
- 42:04meant to change and if you're not changing you're
- 42:06not growing so those parts of my mediumship have
- 42:11been difficult but remembering that in those
- 42:14moments like it's not It's not a it's gone. It's
- 42:20just shifting and changing to come back in a
- 42:22better way and Finally Dana what allows you to
- 42:28be able to trust in your mediumship now? They're
- 42:36always here I am worthy And it never had to cut
- 42:42it okay Have you ever noticed there are some
- 42:48shitty people that do this work? It never had
- 42:50to do with me doing being worthy there are some
- 42:53shitty people that do this work and The spirit
- 42:56world will use any telephone that they have even
- 42:59if it's a crap like 1994 Nokia like they're gonna
- 43:06use what they have to speak through you so all
- 43:10you have to do is show up all you have to do
- 43:13is show up and and just be the best voice for
- 43:21the spirit world as you can possibly be. The
- 43:24spirit world does not expect you to be perfect.
- 43:27The spirit world understands your humanness.
- 43:30They love that about you. And I truly believe
- 43:34that our journey as human or as mediums is to
- 43:39heal along this journey in our development, to
- 43:43heal so often right alongside our sitters and
- 43:47who we are reading for. And it is just this ripple
- 43:53effect of, I talked about this not too long ago
- 43:58in Sippin' Sunday where we all sit in the, I
- 44:02hold this space every Sunday where we all sit
- 44:04in the power together. And I talked about the
- 44:08ripple effect. of just a simple smile. You know,
- 44:12we think mediumship has to be a reading that
- 44:15we give, but we forget that the simple smile
- 44:19that we share with somebody or just saying hello
- 44:21to somebody. Why is that not sharing a gift from
- 44:25the other side? That true love that that for
- 44:29me, the spirit world is love. It is truth. And
- 44:35when we as the medium out in the world, just
- 44:39share that love, that truth. We're doing mediumship,
- 44:44baby. It ain't that complicated. So I don't know
- 44:47if that answered your question either, but I
- 44:49just started talking from love. And this is why
- 44:53I love going to your circles because there's
- 44:55so much lightness to it. There's so much philosophy
- 44:58and it always touches me. Your words always mean
- 45:01something to me. And if anybody else is listening
- 45:04to this or coming to this from a similar point
- 45:07of view. I know your words would have touched
- 45:09them as well. So I just want to thank you, Dana.
- 45:11This has been absolutely wonderful. Thank you.
- 45:13Thank you so much. Where can people find you?
- 45:19I am at DanaWillyWoo on all social media. So
- 45:24yeah, you can find me there. And then mediumshipwithheart
- 45:29.com is where you can find circles. So we have
- 45:34a free space every Sunday. And then we have development
- 45:37circles throughout the week. We have classes
- 45:39that pop up every once in a while. Private sessions
- 45:43are at DanaWillie .com. And what else? Oh, podcasts.
- 45:48I'm a medium Ask Me How. Hopefully someday we'll
- 45:52record more of those, a TBD. And then Super Normal
- 45:55Podcasts, as you mentioned. That one is just
- 45:58on all spiritual topics. Again, trying to get
- 46:01my co -hosts to tape is like a whole thing, so.
- 46:06It's like herding cats. Well, luckily, it's just
- 46:10me on this podcast. So I only have to worry about
- 46:12myself. There you go. And I would thoroughly
- 46:15recommend them, especially on the medium. It
- 46:18was so helpful to me. I remember I was scrolling
- 46:20through Spotify, trying to find a spiritual podcast
- 46:24or a psychic podcast that spoke to me. And suddenly
- 46:27I found yours and you were talking about ethics.
- 46:31And that was such an eye -opener to me because
- 46:34I had never thought that psychics or mediums
- 46:37would talk about that. And you're talking about
- 46:40the fact that if you do a reading and it doesn't
- 46:42go very well, then you refer, you read book or
- 46:45you refund. And so from that episode, I went
- 46:49all the way back to the beginning and listened
- 46:51to them all. So your honesty comes through as
- 46:54it has done today. And once again, Dana, I just
- 46:57want to thank you so much for being on the Psychic
- 46:59Explorer. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thanks
- 47:02for having me, Matt. I adore you. And there you
- 47:20have it folks, Dana Willey. Thank you so much
- 47:23for listening to that. I really hope you found
- 47:25that as enlightening as I did. You know that
- 47:29my previous episodes have focused a lot on my
- 47:32self -trust and my self -belief. And actually
- 47:35I've come to a stage now where... I'm good, I
- 47:38think I'm happy with myself. As happy as anyone
- 47:41can be, that is. But actually I've got a lot
- 47:44more confidence that I believe in what I say
- 47:47I can do because of the feedback and revelation
- 47:50I have had from the people around me. We might
- 47:53have dips, we might have off days, we might have
- 47:56readings which things don't go very well, but
- 47:59we just rebook, refer or refund. Something that
- 48:05Dana once reminded me when I reached out to her
- 48:08with a bit of a crisis of confidence. We're all
- 48:13human and we're all allowed to have off days.
- 48:16So I hope you found that as enjoyable as I did.
- 48:21If you felt there wasn't a lot of banter there,
- 48:22that's probably because I was making sure I was
- 48:24on my best behavior and just trying to get things
- 48:27right. But yeah, that was my first interview
- 48:30of the new format. Hop on over to Instagram,
- 48:35Thres, Facebook. You will see the new branding.
- 48:39I don't like to call it that because that makes
- 48:41it feel like it's more than it is, but I'm for
- 48:44lack of a better word, new branding, new logo.
- 48:47I'm trying to be a bit more interactive or a
- 48:50bit more consistent on Instagram as well. So.
- 48:54Follow me reach out to me as I said before by
- 48:57me letting you know that you're not alone. Let
- 49:00me know that I am not alone. I Really look forward
- 49:05to hearing from you if you again if you have
- 49:09anyone that you would like me to speak with Anyone
- 49:12that you find inspirational anyone that's really
- 49:15helped you reach out to me If you have any questions
- 49:20or if you would like to talk about your experience,
- 49:23I would love to hear from you. Don't feel like,
- 49:26you know, you're not big enough on social media,
- 49:29you're not this, you're not that. I'm not. Really,
- 49:33I'm not. And what a great platform for each of
- 49:37us to help each other out. So consider this a
- 49:41warm invitation to anyone who would like to discuss
- 49:45their journey. their discovery, the catalyst.
- 49:51I'd love to hear from you. You know where I am.
- 49:54The .psych .explorer. Next time it's going to
- 49:58be a solo episode, so just me. And then after
- 50:01that we're going to have the lovely Charlotte
- 50:04Leitch and she is going to be talking about crystals.
- 50:07Something I know very little about, although
- 50:10after speaking with her now I've got a bit more
- 50:12of an idea. I'm not sure I'm going to be putting
- 50:15my crystals outside. to charge in the moonlight
- 50:17but I don't know I never thought I'd be talking
- 50:19to dead people and here we are so so look forward
- 50:23to that because it's a good one I don't know
- 50:26what it's like where you are but here in my little
- 50:28corner of the UK spring has arrived in fact you'd
- 50:32be mistaken to think it wasn't summer it's beautiful
- 50:35the birds are singing the sun is shining the
- 50:41leaves are coming out all the flowers are in
- 50:43bloom so enjoy get out there put your feet in
