- 0:003 lifelong friends, 6 trusty balls and endless NFL takes.
- 0:05Welcome to three guys 6 balls NFL podcast.
- 0:08Welcome to episode 31 of three guys 6 balls NFL podcast.
- 0:12Avery, how we feeling? I'm feeling pretty good.
- 0:16I'm, I'm feeling pretty excited. I didn't realize we chose the
- 0:19team with that dog in them. Dude Baker is a dog.
- 0:25Baker, Mayfield. Baker Baker.
- 0:27Touchdown Maker. Baker friggin Mayfield.
- 0:31Wasn't that Rich Eisen? He's like, yeah.
- 0:33Baker. And then they're like, I think
- 0:35his middle name is Regan Reagan and like Baker friggin Mayfield.
- 0:44But I mean, if you cut through it, right, they've won two games
- 0:47in a row now on the very last second play.
- 0:50So like you feel good about that, but be nice to win more
- 0:56comfortably. Yeah, I feel great about the
- 0:58offense. The defense scares me a little
- 1:01bit, but they came through when they needed to.
- 1:04Absolutely. To win in Seattle's a big deal.
- 1:06Yeah, you're right, You're right.
- 1:09I was talking with my cousin. That was kind of one of the
- 1:11factors for choosing this team. He's a big Smith and Jigba fan
- 1:15and huge Seahawks fan. But yeah, I was, I was surprised
- 1:18after the Eagles game. I didn't know how this would go
- 1:20because I just know that it just doesn't go great when you go to
- 1:23Seattle, especially from Florida.
- 1:24So big win. Yeah, and I do have to say,
- 1:28Will, I was genuinely rooting for the Rams.
- 1:31I was. Right.
- 1:33And I was rooting for the buffs. I was.
- 1:35I'm happy day one, yeah. I'm going to be, I think I'm
- 1:38going to be rooting for the Rams, unless they play the
- 1:41Bucks, then I'll root for the Rams.
- 1:42Just because you're a Rams fan now, I will root for the Rams.
- 1:45Same. I feel kind of the same.
- 1:47Yeah. Like you're my step favorite
- 1:52team. Yeah, my team, but you're my
- 1:56friend's team. Yeah.
- 2:00All right, well, let's go. Go ahead and get started.
- 2:02So just so everybody knows, Will decided that he didn't want
- 2:06Internet anymore, and so he's joining us from his phone today.
- 2:09And so we'll see how it goes with his video and audio
- 2:13quality, But we're going to give it a shot.
- 2:15We've been through worse. Avery's house has been on fire
- 2:17during one of these episodes. So we'll see how this goes.
- 2:20Do I look like I'm recording in a 1970s potato?
- 2:24More like a 2003 Motorola Razor. Nice SO.
- 2:29Classic BBA camera. I'm actually not worried about
- 2:33it because my feet here my my picture of myself looks really
- 2:38good and you guys look looks a bit below normal, but like my
- 2:44seed looks really good over here for me.
- 2:47So I. Think I think it records it
- 2:49locally, so you should be good. It should.
- 2:51Everything should come out. By the time.
- 2:52Everyone's looking at it should be fine.
- 2:55Like your cousin Garrett, he was heated it from his phone and
- 2:59some paint out fine. That's the only they're asking
- 3:02this out loud. The only episode I see drawn
- 3:04back to look at because I'm going to see how the quality of
- 3:07his phone turned out so I'm I'm less worried about it.
- 3:11I remember watching a clip of that and I'm like, I don't
- 3:13remember it looking like this and I'm like, oh 'cause like we
- 3:15couldn't see him. He was like 4 pixel blobs and
- 3:18like oh this actually doesn't look that.
- 3:22Bad. All right, Well, Will, why don't
- 3:24you get us started with your Week 5 recap?
- 3:27Here we go, we've got Rams Niners Thursday night.
- 3:30Both teams forgot how to play past defense.
- 3:32Also as a Rams fan, true bleed Blue Ranch fan that for a whole
- 3:38week now, I agree with Sean Mcvay's choice to go for it.
- 3:41That 4th down in overtime there because if he kicked that field
- 3:44goal, that game to end in a tie. And tying is for losers, losing
- 3:50is for trying. It's like you tried to win but
- 3:53tying is for losers. So I agree with Sean McVay going
- 3:56for it. It's one of those decisions
- 3:57players. Where exactly you you make the
- 4:02first down and you're the best country in the world.
- 4:05You don't get it. And then the worst country ever.
- 4:07Get this guy out here. But as a new fan, here I am.
- 4:11I like it. I like the aggressiveness.
- 4:13Anyway, that's enough with that game.
- 4:15Vikings, Browns, oh, Carl Wentz out here showing us he can still
- 4:18play football out here, showing us that every snap can be the
- 4:21greatest play in NFL history. And Dylan Gabriel looked really
- 4:25good, good enough to where the Browns are shipping Joe Flack
- 4:29around the building. Jets, Cowboys.
- 4:31Let's remember, Cowboys fans, The Jets haven't beaten anybody
- 4:34this year. Let's not get over it.
- 4:35He's you are not winning the Super Bowl because you beat The
- 4:38Jets. Let's just that should pump the
- 4:40brakes. Giants, Saints.
- 4:42The Giants used up all their ability to win last week and had
- 4:45elected all behind. It's also very hard to win any
- 4:49game from any team when you lose a turnover battle 5 to 0.
- 4:53That's real ref. That's three fumble 2 packs.
- 4:56That's just real ref. Raiders, Colts.
- 4:58The Colts only scored in the second and third quarter and
- 5:02still put up 40 points. They did not score in the 1st or
- 5:054th. So two quarters of football and
- 5:08they put up 40 points. I do feel sorry for the Raiders.
- 5:11Here you go. The Colts lost last week Ted to
- 5:14the Rams first last season and they absolutely took it out in
- 5:18the Raiders here Dolphins, Panthers and go ahead and check
- 5:21on your Dolphins fans in your life because they are they are
- 5:24feeling this week. You go up 17 zero against the
- 5:27Panthers and then lose that game.
- 5:29If you've seen the clip of Mike McDaniel walking through the
- 5:31tunnel at the very end of that game, he looks like the most
- 5:35beaten sad puppy I've ever seen in my life.
- 5:38His the tag in his shoes and flopping around his heads down.
- 5:42He's rough. Yeah, Broncos, Eagles, you won't
- 5:46find me saying this a lot, but some question of reference calls
- 5:49in this one either reference decisions either no calls or
- 5:52actual calls. But when you bought a 17 to 0 or
- 5:5417 to 3 lead in the fourth quarter, Eagles, you kind of
- 5:57deserve to lose that game. Ravens, Texans, I've heard this
- 6:01that the Ravens had seven of their top seven highest paid
- 6:05players out that game. And so when you when you are
- 6:09missing your top money has to be real hard to win.
- 6:13But that does not explain the roofing if attention is put on
- 6:17it. Yeah, 44 to 10 or something like
- 6:19that. That's read.
- 6:20I mean, if there's nothing, you can't excuse that.
- 6:24They're all athletes, Titans, Cardinals.
- 6:26And I mean this when I say it. How hard is it to hold on to the
- 6:30damn football across the N1? How many weeks now are we going
- 6:34to see this? Chad Bowers.
- 6:38Yeah, Seriously. And we have another Sky Powers
- 6:40promo. Thank you.
- 6:41I want to pause. Real.
- 6:42Quick, just real quick and point out that the the thing that
- 6:46happened with Chad Powers 'cause I watched that is ironic that
- 6:49he's wearing an Oregon uniform. Cause the first time I had ever
- 6:52seen that happen was in person in Salt Lake at the Oregon Utah
- 6:58game where the Utah player did that.
- 7:01And since then, dude, I think I've seen that like 5 times.
- 7:04And I'm like, what has to be a, like if you're a skill position
- 7:09player, if you're a running back or a quarterback or a wide
- 7:12receiver and you see that you'd be, you would probably be like,
- 7:15dude, I'm it's kind of like holding your phone outside of a
- 7:18moving car where you just feel like, oh, I got to like hold it
- 7:21tight. Like I don't ever want to drop
- 7:23the ball because I don't want to be that guy.
- 7:25And the fact that it's happened that often, I'm like, dude, the
- 7:30kids aren't learning anyway. The thing that they should take
- 7:34the the high school and lower levels, I'm sure even even the
- 7:38the NFL levels all the way down. They should be and are telling
- 7:42their players, run the ball all the way to the referee and just
- 7:45hand us the referee to back to the end zone.
- 7:47Take the ball all the way to it. Don't drop it early.
- 7:50Don't just just carry it all the way in.
- 7:53One scope run, run out the stadium with it.
- 7:56Exactly this also had the most talked about play of the weekend
- 8:01where Cam Ward threw the pick and then the guy fumble and it
- 8:04got hit into the end zone. So on that plays.
- 8:08Just a real quick decoration here for stat wise.
- 8:11Ham Ward through an interception.
- 8:13So he gets a stat for interception but does not also
- 8:16get the stat for the touchdown on that.
- 8:18So they had an offensive touchdown not thrown by anybody,
- 8:22not ran in by anybody. It was a 0 yard fumble recovery
- 8:25touchdown. I think that is no, hey, I think
- 8:28that's that's sucks for for Cam Ward, truly, but don't throw the
- 8:31pick. Then we've got Lions Bengals.
- 8:35The Bengals were so bad they decided to trade a divismo rival
- 8:38for the second oldest man in the NFL also welcomed the NFL this
- 8:41season. Jamar's face.
- 8:42You finally decided to still open play.
- 8:44I'm glad you're here now after I traded.
- 8:46A.J. Brown, we're still waiting.
- 8:48Yeah, yeah, Commander Chargers feels a bit early in the season
- 8:53to be saying this, but Chargers are going to charge you right?
- 8:55Here we are. They lost one of a new two in a
- 8:57row. They usually crumble later in
- 8:59the season. This year, they figured a fast
- 9:01track hit. You're going to crumble early.
- 9:03We have patch bills. This is probably the best raking
- 9:05draft episode we've ever seen. Stephon Diggs took it personally
- 9:09that he's no longer with the bills.
- 9:11And then they show Chief Jags probably the most exciting
- 9:14Monday night game we'll get all year.
- 9:15Somehow Trevor Lawrence was lucky if he's still young
- 9:19because if you get any of these guys, Aaron Rodgers, Joe Flacco,
- 9:22any of these older guys, they trip and fall.
- 9:26They're not getting backed up play.
- 9:27So it's done Instead of Trevor Lawrence gets up, scores game
- 9:30when he touchdown gets up twice. Twice.
- 9:33Yeah, yeah. Gets up.
- 9:34Twice. Yeah, it looks like a baby deer
- 9:35back there. Sell down, sell down again.
- 9:39I'm going to talk about that. That plenty for a second here.
- 9:41Sorry. That's that's our week 5 wrap
- 9:43up. Pretty entertaining week overall
- 9:46in football so. Chris out of the womb like a
- 9:50baby. Deer learning to learning to
- 9:52walk and score a touchdown at the same time.
- 9:56Have you guys seen the the watch Chris Jones angle of that play
- 10:00where Chris Jones yes, does nothing?
- 10:02Yes, I'm I want to talk about that and I have AI have a fairly
- 10:06strong take on this. There are 32 starting
- 10:10quarterbacks. I think Trevor Lawrence may be
- 10:16the only one who falls down on that play.
- 10:19And actually they stands back up.
- 10:22I think 10910 the referees are blowing that play dead.
- 10:26It's just, oh, quarterbacks fell down protecting plays over.
- 10:29But Trevor Lawrence immediately tries to stand back up, which is
- 10:33something that defenses are not used to.
- 10:35Usually when the quarterback falls down at any point, the
- 10:38plays over. And so if he tries to stand back
- 10:40up, doesn't work, stands back up again, and then you see
- 10:44Christians start to make a move for it.
- 10:46At that point, he's on the on the opposite side of the field
- 10:49and whoever has an angle to go into the to the end zone.
- 10:52So, so Chris Jones that you're getting a lot of hate for this.
- 10:55But in reality, his, he is so trained and these defenses are
- 10:59so trained to not get a penalty on it that when a quarterback
- 11:02goes to the ground, the play is done.
- 11:04Stop by whether there's a whistle or anything.
- 11:08It's over if even if a quarterback tries to go to the
- 11:11ground. Sorry if you heard my child
- 11:14yelling. That sounded like a ghost.
- 11:16What I do believe that was my daughter, if even the
- 11:19quarterback starts to go to the ground, the plays were it's when
- 11:22they start the slide, you can no longer hit them.
- 11:25And so I think that is why that's why he's able to squish
- 11:28that at all, is if the chief defense stops playing because
- 11:32the quarterback kicked the ground not once but twice at the
- 11:34same point. Do you think that's something
- 11:36because I can't remember if it was in college or the NFLI Think
- 11:40it was last season when a quarterback did like a little
- 11:43fake slide and then pops right back up.
- 11:47OK, Now that's one of the things that to me is a little bit like
- 11:54that Mahomes play as well where he goes out of bounds but then
- 11:57trucks the guy and it's like, OK, OK, you can't get it both
- 12:01ways now. Like we have these rules to
- 12:02protect you, but don't take advantage of it like it's for
- 12:06your protection. And so I wonder with this kind
- 12:10of in the same vein, I watched that Chris Jones play that
- 12:16didn't look like anyone who was invested in that play.
- 12:20That was my problem with it was like, dude, you looked
- 12:24uninterested. You looked like the ref out
- 12:27there just standing watching what was happening where it was
- 12:30like, look, if I mean, they wow, I don't want, I'm not going to
- 12:35say that. I just think you should have put
- 12:37more effort in there. But I do agree that, yeah, when
- 12:39you see the quarterback fall down twice, like and the ball
- 12:44hasn't left, it's like, OK, yeah, but the play should be
- 12:46dead. But when you see him just
- 12:47peeling out, I mean, at the very least, it's kind of like a
- 12:51receiver or a cornerback following the receiver into the
- 12:54end zone. I at least want to see you
- 12:56sprinting until he hits the the the end zone.
- 12:59Like, I don't want to see you stop.
- 13:01The play's not over yet. And now everyone's dropping
- 13:04balls at the end zone, like get up there.
- 13:06So like the same thing. It's it's more of an effort
- 13:08thing. And this is my kind of general
- 13:10gripe with professional sports over college is that with
- 13:13college, everything is an audition all the time.
- 13:15Whereas in the NFL, once you get paid, like you got paid, you
- 13:18know, so it's like, I mean, you still want to keep getting paid,
- 13:21but I don't know. So that's my kind of take on it.
- 13:24But that is an interesting perspective of like, yeah, that
- 13:28quarterback did hit the ground twice, so.
- 13:32Yeah, that's wild. All right, well, let's let's go
- 13:36ahead and get started here. We we're, we were going to do a
- 13:39couple different games today, but again, Will decided to
- 13:41cancel his Internet right before the show and so.
- 13:45I should be good actually. I've got all my stuff.
- 13:48Oh, you have all your notes and everything?
- 13:50I should be good. I hot spotted in for long enough
- 13:53to get it into a spreadsheet and we should be good.
- 13:59OK, well in that case, we're going to do 2 games today.
- 14:02So we're going to go ahead and start with my game, which is a
- 14:05game of over or under. And so as you guys know, I am a
- 14:09big fan of stats and so I spend a lot of time throughout the
- 14:12week just kind of looking at just random stats throughout the
- 14:15NFL. And this week I was looking at
- 14:17stats and I came across some stats from players that and I
- 14:21noticed that these players are on track to break some single
- 14:25season NFL records. And So what I want to do is I'm
- 14:29going to give you guys the name of a player who's on track to
- 14:32break a single season record. I'll tell you what they're on
- 14:35track for. Then I'll tell you what the
- 14:38single season record is. And I want you guys to tell me
- 14:41if this player will finish over or under what the NFL single
- 14:45season record is. So I've got five players here.
- 14:49So the first one is Bucs wide receiver and Mecca E Bucca.
- 14:54He is on pace for 1513 receiving yards, which would break the
- 14:59single season record by a rookie receiver for receiving yards.
- 15:03With 1486 receiving yards set by Puka Nakua.
- 15:08Will Ebuka finish over or under? That record I'm going to go
- 15:13ahead and say under, not by a line.
- 15:17Yeah, I just, to me, I, I, I don't see it being as
- 15:23sustainable. And, and I mean that more from
- 15:25like a team perspective, meaning like the same way that your
- 15:30receiver is not going to get a lot of fantasy points if your
- 15:33team's already up by 20. You know, it's like, we don't
- 15:36need to be throwing the ball. I, I, I see it more as like,
- 15:39look, if Mecca gets a lot more attention on him, then we'll
- 15:43throw to other guys. Kind of like A.J.
- 15:45Brown is not getting a lot of touches, but their team is
- 15:47winning, you know, for the most part.
- 15:49So like, it's one of those things where it's like, hey,
- 15:51like if, if, if all we need to do is take two corners to put on
- 15:55you and then we can run our game, you know, kind of
- 15:58unbothered, then I'm all for that.
- 16:00But I would love to see him do it.
- 16:02I think he's more than capable of it.
- 16:04But I think eventually defenses start realizing this guy's on a
- 16:09historic run. At the very least we can shut
- 16:11that down and force him to go somewhere else.
- 16:13So I see it more as like respect to opposing defenses that
- 16:17they're going to play that like, you're not going to just let
- 16:19this rookie just run all over you so.
- 16:24I actually disagree. I think he beats it so far.
- 16:27We are five years into the season and I think four of the
- 16:32five or five of the five have come down to a last second drive
- 16:36or last the final drive for the Bucks.
- 16:38Win or lose, right? You lost the Eagles, so
- 16:41everything has come down to the wire.
- 16:43Where did the Bucks had to play a full 16 minutes every single
- 16:48week? And so with that, Abuka is not
- 16:51the number one currently, whether it's Mike Evans or Chris
- 16:55Godwin, he's the rookie, He's not the veteran.
- 16:59And so he's going to take a bad seat to those guys.
- 17:02And if by chance they both happen to be in the same week,
- 17:05doesn't seem like that it's going to be the case right now.
- 17:07If they both happen to be in and Abuka slips to the slot like he
- 17:11played in college, I think he's going to be even more open as
- 17:15foodie. You got do you guard Mike Evans?
- 17:17Do you guard Chris Gowen or do you guard MSK Vuca?
- 17:21You've got three wonderful ride distributors there and Baker, as
- 17:25we said already, this show is an absolute dog.
- 17:27And it doesn't matter if there's five people trying to tackle
- 17:30him. He's going to be a full Tony
- 17:31Romo spin out and throw it anyway.
- 17:34And so it it's good to watch And and then they've got Bucky and
- 17:38Rashad White back there who make he respects the run game.
- 17:42And so the play action works incredibly effectively.
- 17:44They have a really, really good offense.
- 17:46As you said earlier, their defense, he hasn't been suspect
- 17:49right now, but that's when you keep their offense cooking all
- 17:53the way through. And he's currently sitting at
- 17:55445 yards, right, 35 games. He said, as you make sure I've
- 18:00got enough. Yeah, 25 receptions, 17 and 17.8
- 18:04yards per reception. That's huge.
- 18:07And so he's not just getting and he may just be getting short
- 18:11stuff as well, but like he's getting when he's getting the
- 18:14ball, he's making a play at every time, right?
- 18:17I, I would like to see him do it.
- 18:19The Bucks are, are a fun thing to watch because of this.
- 18:23So I think he does do it. Just like we saw with the Bucks
- 18:27with the Mike Evans thing, 1000 yard season last year.
- 18:30If they get close to a record, if they go for it, they want to
- 18:34keep things going. And so I wouldn't be surprised
- 18:37if we get to week 16, they've got two games left and he's
- 18:41sitting at, I don't know, 1200 yard.
- 18:44He's like, I mean, we could probably do it.
- 18:46We could probably break that record.
- 18:48Let's go for it. And so, so I would not be
- 18:51surprised if we get close and he is close and then he is to start
- 18:54feeding in the bowl. So I I could see it happening,
- 19:00yeah. I'm going to go with Avery on
- 19:02this one and I'm going to go with under and.
- 19:05Who Will's the Bucs fan here? Yeah, well the reason why is you
- 19:10look at his game log. So he started off with 67 yards,
- 19:13then the next game he had 29 yards.
- 19:15Then the next game he had 85, then one O 1, then 163.
- 19:19It's not every week that you're getting 163 yards.
- 19:22You're not going to do that every week, as great as that
- 19:24was. And I I would love to see that
- 19:25every week. It's just not going to happen
- 19:27every single week. There are going to be weeks
- 19:29where he does have 29 yards, but he can still be effective as a
- 19:32weapon even though he's only getting 29 yards.
- 19:34So I think he can get close to it.
- 19:36I think he can get within range, but I don't think he's going to
- 19:40quite get there just because I feel like other teams, like
- 19:43Avery said, are going to key in on him.
- 19:45And I think that, you know, there will be games when Mike
- 19:48Evans and Chris Godwin are on the field with him where he does
- 19:51get a lot of of catches and yards because those two other
- 19:55guys are on the field as well. But I feel like there's going to
- 19:58be games where he's kind of the center of attention because of
- 20:01defense. You know, they look at what he's
- 20:04done so far and they say we need to stop him.
- 20:07And so I feel like he can do it, but I feel like he's just going
- 20:10to finish maybe a little bit underneath that record.
- 20:15All right, so the second one is Rams wide receiver Pukunakua.
- 20:21He is on pace for 1999 receiving yards, which would break the
- 20:27record of 1964 receiving yard set by Calvin Johnson.
- 20:32Will Pukunakua finish over or under that record?
- 20:37Under. Why do you say under?
- 20:40Because I don't think he's beating Calvin Johnson Also, I I
- 20:44think that right now, I mean, kind of the same thing you just
- 20:46said. I mean, but before Emeka's last
- 20:49game, I mean, would we have been talking about him getting to
- 20:511500 yards? I mean, I feel like this is such
- 20:54a brief stint, although I will say that he's getting more
- 20:59catches than anybody. I mean if you look here, give me
- 21:03one. 2nd. Yeah, he's, I mean, as far as
- 21:07just, I mean, consistency in a, in a clear cut like ever present
- 21:12weapon, I mean, he's there. But I mean, when you beat out
- 21:17the next best player in yards per game by 11 and then what is
- 21:24it by 30 yards for the next best receiver, Justin Jefferson, it's
- 21:29like that's pretty impressive. And so I the same thing with a
- 21:33Mecca. I'm trying to stay consistent
- 21:35here. I just don't think you can keep
- 21:37that up for long enough. I think, again, defense is like
- 21:42I I like Nakua BYU boy puka, by the way, that just that's a
- 21:47Polynesian term just means fat and chubby because he was a big
- 21:50baby. But I just don't think he's
- 21:54going to be able to sustain it for long enough.
- 21:57It's the same thing. Like, you know, what was it last
- 21:59week, 2 weeks ago when I was like, oh, Josh Allen's the clear
- 22:02cut, you know, MVP front runner at the moment, you know, because
- 22:06he had some sweet games. Now we're not talking about it
- 22:08as much. Not that he's like doing any
- 22:09worse, just that OK, reality kind of set in.
- 22:12He's not on top of the world. He's not a world beater right
- 22:15now at the moment because we always talk, you know, on a week
- 22:17to week basis. But no, I don't.
- 22:19I don't think he'll be able to keep this up for another, what,
- 22:2211-12 games? What do you think Will?
- 22:24I unfortunately have to agree. I don't think he breaks the
- 22:27record. I I mean, 117 yards a game,
- 22:31that's really, really good. 52 receptions for the season that
- 22:34were five games, just over 10 receptions a game.
- 22:36That's really, really good. I, I actually think that he
- 22:41could do it. I don't think he's going to be
- 22:43the problem. I worry more about Matt
- 22:45Stafford's Lonzie over the season because he's up there at
- 22:48age and he is he is incredibly tough, right.
- 22:51He plays through a lot of stuff plays with a injury.
- 22:54But as the season winds on, if you're ever going to start
- 22:58violating that back, all right, so long as they even play on
- 23:00spot secure, they're going to start violating that back and
- 23:03running more to keep Matt Stafford semi fresh for the
- 23:08playoffs. So I, I think that there's going
- 23:10to be a a drop off as the season moves on begin assuming that
- 23:14they have their playoff spots here.
- 23:16So I'm actually going to go with over and the reason why is
- 23:22because he's just getting an insane amount of targets.
- 23:26And typically when you get more targets and you get more
- 23:29catches, you have more yards. Unless you have a game where
- 23:33you're like Devon HN and you get 20 catches for 30 yards, you're
- 23:37probably going to have more yards when you have more
- 23:39catches. And so if you look at Calvin
- 23:42Johnson and Cooper Cup, who are the two highest guys on this
- 23:45list, Calvin Johnson averaged 7.6 catches a game when he did
- 23:49it and Cooper Cup averaged 8.5 catches a game when he did it.
- 23:54Kukunakua has like an average of like 10.4 catches a game right
- 23:58now. So he's averaging about two more
- 24:02catches, two or three more catches than those two guys in
- 24:05the five game so far. And Matthew Stafford is just
- 24:09feeding him the ball. He's he doesn't seem like he's
- 24:13he's not the biggest guy, He's not the fastest guy.
- 24:15He's just somehow always open. And when you're always open,
- 24:19you're going to get the ball a butt load of times every single
- 24:22game. So that's why I think he's going
- 24:24to break the record. All right, the third one.
- 24:29This is also Rams wide receiver Puku Nakua.
- 24:32He is on pace for 177 catches, which would break the record of
- 24:38149 catches set by Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas.
- 24:42Will Pukunakua finish over or under this record?
- 24:46I would say out of the last two over unders you've given us, I
- 24:52think this is the most likely just because, I mean, I guess
- 24:56barring an injury, he just seems like a consistently good option
- 25:01for Stafford to go to. I mean, the receptions he's
- 25:04already been getting, I mean, compared to the other receivers
- 25:07is ridiculous. It's clearly an outlier.
- 25:10So I mean, I could see it especially, and I want to note
- 25:13something here. He has one of the well, I don't
- 25:18I don't know how to say this. He doesn't have his longest
- 25:22catch is 31 yards. Most every other receiver has a
- 25:26longer catch than that already. He goes for a lot of these short
- 25:30routes because he's not averaging a lot of yards, I
- 25:34mean, per catch, I guess. And a lot of those slants, I
- 25:37mean, they're harder to they're harder to to defend, you know,
- 25:41the Abuka, Abuka also, I'm pretty sure it's Abuka.
- 25:46I've been hearing everyone say that and not pronouncing the G,
- 25:49but that might be a conversation for another time.
- 25:51But I just. I'm going to go off from
- 25:53Markashi's pronunciation. Hey, Big Bo, Big Bo.
- 26:01I just think with with some of these shorter routes, quicker
- 26:05passes, I think the reception thing can get there.
- 26:08I think you can write that record.
- 26:10I'm still going to go under though.
- 26:11Even even with that, I'm still saying under.
- 26:13I don't think he'll do it, but I think he could.
- 26:17OK, I'm going to say over actually he so we're a whole of
- 26:22the race of the season and he's got 52 receptions.
- 26:25The number that really speaks out to me is that his catching
- 26:27percentage is 83.9. You're a very high catch
- 26:31percentage. You've been targeted 6262 times,
- 26:3552 of them he's caught. Now.
- 26:36I don't know about drops. I'm sure drops, just that I have
- 26:40here. I don't know where it's at, but
- 26:43doesn't necessarily matter. 62 or 52 for 62 is incredibly good
- 26:48through five games. That's a very high number
- 26:50through five games. And so if this continues on at
- 26:55the same pace, he's like, like he said, he's going to cross
- 26:58that record. There is no reason why it's
- 27:01going to stop. It is obvious.
- 27:04It's obvious. It was obvious before the season
- 27:06started that Puka was the number one.
- 27:08He is there right receiver one. No question that Cooper cut, he
- 27:12moved on. He's in Seattle now.
- 27:14There's no who's the ball going to who we have to cover.
- 27:17The answer is Buku Nukua. So it's not like they're hiding
- 27:21and you just like with the I mean, any, any team at the Vengo
- 27:25to mark space, that's the guy we have to cover.
- 27:28And so he is a true 1. He he is their true number one
- 27:31for a reason. And like Avery said, his longest
- 27:34reception is only 31 yards. 30, right, 31.
- 27:40Yep, 31. This year, yes, doesn't matter.
- 27:4431, So his his longest reception, 31 yards.
- 27:47And so he's not doing, he's not putting himself out there, say
- 27:51get hurt, right? Like most of these big injuries
- 27:53come from these long pass plays where somebody pulls the
- 27:56hamstring or there's a big collision over the middle
- 27:59because the safety was sitting on it and whatnot.
- 28:01And so he's he's doing the right things and sitting in his zones
- 28:04and he's just making play after play after play.
- 28:06So what I think probably receptions over yards, it's like
- 28:11Avery, again, like Avery said, there's a record that you get
- 28:13broken. I'm going to say over again.
- 28:18I'm going to agree with you on this one, Will.
- 28:19I also said over and the reason is he's on pace.
- 28:22Just just smash this record like he's on pace to for it to not
- 28:26even be close to the record. So exactly what you said.
- 28:31I had the the 52 catches on 62 targets thing down.
- 28:35I also wrote down Devante Adams targets and catches which so
- 28:40he's been targeted 46 times and he has 22 catches which is 30
- 28:44less than Puku Nakua on only 16 less targets.
- 28:49So his receptions is at 47.8%. When Matthew Stafford throws to
- 28:55Devante Adams. If you're Matthew Stafford,
- 28:57would you rather throw to puke and Akua where you're completing
- 29:00it 84% of the time or would you rather throw it to Devante Adams
- 29:03where you're only completing it 48% of the time?
- 29:07You throw to puke and Akua, right?
- 29:10I think over the year and especially next year, I needed
- 29:14Devante Adams numbers to go up this first year in the system.
- 29:17And this is Buca's second year and and this is a sophomore
- 29:20year. So, so third, Yep, third.
- 29:24But either way, second or third doesn't really matter truly
- 29:28because Fuca grew up under Mass Stafford.
- 29:31Devante Adams has had a bunch of different quarterbacks, Aaron
- 29:35Rodgers and and so he's had there's been more than that.
- 29:38I know don't at me please. But there's there's there's
- 29:44similar style, but it's it's, it's, it is fully different.
- 29:47And so who could knows how to speak Matt Stafford where Adams
- 29:51is still learning how to speak Matt Stafford.
- 29:53So, so I think as the year goes on and even in the next year is
- 29:56Adams on a 2 year contract? I I think we see those those
- 30:00percentages go up all. Right.
- 30:02Cool. So the 4th 1 Broncos linebacker
- 30:05and Nick Benito has seven sacks in five games and he is on pace
- 30:10for 24 sacks this year, which would break the record of 22 1/2
- 30:15sacks in a single season. Will he finish over or under
- 30:18that record? I'm going to give the obvious
- 30:22answer after you guys go. Well. 1st That's fine.
- 30:27I don't have the Broncos schedule pulled up in front of
- 30:31me, but I'm going to go under because getting a sack is
- 30:34incredibly hard. Just in general, it's just a
- 30:36very hard thing. Union, FL.
- 30:38The only reason to me, the only reason he has seven this year
- 30:41and got 13 1/2 last year because that Broncos secondary is doing
- 30:46good things. And so you're going to like
- 30:48coverage sets, quarterbacks aren't able to turn down the
- 30:50field. But OK, so who's in the
- 30:54division? The Raiders, the Raiders,
- 30:56Chargers, Chiefs and then Broncos.
- 31:00I mean, two of those three have really bad offensive lines and
- 31:05their quarter matches take sets all the time.
- 31:08So that that is in his favor. But I still don't think it's
- 31:11going to happen. I think it slows down as the
- 31:14season goes on. They will start double teaming
- 31:16him more and they just feel like he ever said with with Nikola
- 31:20and and and and Buca or and Buca, whatever we're trying to
- 31:23call him now. And mecha will go that way.
- 31:26Yeah, I think they're just they just suggested and say, hey,
- 31:28this guy's the record. Let's stop that guy from
- 31:30wrecking us. So sorry, Sander.
- 31:34I'm going to agree. I also think he will finish
- 31:36under that record. But I will say this is that the
- 31:39Broncos lead the league with 21 sacks right now as a team, he
- 31:43has seven of those. The rest of the team has 14
- 31:46sacks, which is either tied with or more than 28 other NFL teams.
- 31:51So the Broncos have 10 players on defense who have had at least
- 31:55one sack this year, and they have four guys on defense who
- 31:58have had at least multiple sacks.
- 32:00And so I feel like with all the guys that they have who can be a
- 32:04threat to get a sack or to rush the passer, there's a
- 32:08possibility that he could get at least in that range because they
- 32:12have so many guys who can get to the quarterback.
- 32:16So it takes more attention away from him instead of having a
- 32:20bunch of double or triple teams on him all the time because
- 32:23there's so many other guys on that team who can get to the
- 32:25quarterback as well. So it forces the offense to not
- 32:28be able to focus on him as much. So I think he's going to finish
- 32:32under, but I think he can get close.
- 32:34Yeah, he's under. I just, I what Will said at the
- 32:39beginning. Like it's hard to get a sack.
- 32:41We watch Michael Parsons not be able to sack Dak all but one
- 32:45time. For 0 yards.
- 32:47Yeah, I, I just, I don't see him going off that much.
- 32:52I think he's, it's kind of the same thing with Abuka.
- 32:54And this is, I mean, maybe I sound pessimistic.
- 32:57I feel like it's more realistic where it's like, yeah, he had
- 33:00160 yards this past game. So like now he's on pace to hit
- 33:05this 1500, you know, yard mark. I mean, if you just take, you
- 33:10know, 160 * 17, you know, I mean, yeah, he this last game,
- 33:19after that, just that game, he's on pace for 2700 yards.
- 33:22It's like it's not, it's not going to happen that way.
- 33:24I can. Decide on the.
- 33:25Same thing. And, and I would say that it
- 33:28would be nuts. I I would say that Ibuka and
- 33:31Nikua have yeah, they should be on the same team.
- 33:34It's just Ibuka and Nikua sounds like a star band name.
- 33:39As long as it's on the Bucks, I'm cool with that.
- 33:42As long as it's on the Bucks. I'm cool.
- 33:43Yeah. I, I just, I guess unlike
- 33:48receiving yards and touchdowns, I feel like sacks are way more
- 33:52out of your control. As someone who has played a
- 33:55linebacker on college football, Martha Glory, I can tell you
- 34:00personally, it's very hard. It's very hard to get sacks.
- 34:04It's much harder than it is to get touchdowns.
- 34:07So that's your answer. That's true.
- 34:10It's very it's much further out of your control.
- 34:13So for that reason alone, I'm like, I just don't see him going
- 34:16off like that every game. So all right, great player
- 34:21though. Cool.
- 34:22So I got one more here and this is Titans wide receiver Chim DK
- 34:28who is on pace for 2264 kick return yards which would break
- 34:34the record of 2186 kick return yards.
- 34:38Will he finish over or under that number?
- 34:41I'm going to say over because the Titans suck.
- 34:43And so they're receiving a lot of kickoff returns.
- 34:47So that's that's really what we're saying here is is he going
- 34:50to return enough kickoffs to get that many yards?
- 34:53Is their defense bad enough? Now, the other part of this is
- 34:58that this gets an asterisk to me.
- 35:01And a lot of these records do, right, because, oh, was that
- 35:04record were set back when they were playing 14 games?
- 35:06Of course they're playing 17 now.
- 35:09Sure. The NFL kick off rules.
- 35:11We talked about this a couple of times when we still are as sets
- 35:14where you almost have to let the returner get the ball and return
- 35:18it. He gets too short, you get on
- 35:20the 4035 or 40 yard line here it's it's 3035.
- 35:25He added bounds. They get on the 40, kick it too
- 35:27short here on the 35 because he ends on the year on the 30.
- 35:30So you might as well just take it to him and hope for the best.
- 35:34But subsequently at the same, that's the wrong word.
- 35:38Doesn't matter where we're going, your kickoff team is
- 35:41starting so much closer and so you have less of a running
- 35:44start. And so the return guys are are
- 35:48getting a full head of steam and they are full running by the
- 35:51time they get the ball already. And no one's allowed to start
- 35:55running often or on the kicker or kickoff team until the ball
- 35:59is caught. And so you you can't start
- 36:03moving until he catches the ball, except for the guy who's
- 36:05about to catch the ball, who's going to be running at almost a
- 36:08full out of steam or have had his momentum moving in that
- 36:11direction already. This is set up for a returner's
- 36:15dream. If Devin Hester was returning
- 36:18kicks right now in the NFL, people would just be giving the
- 36:21Bears the ball at the 40 yard line.
- 36:22It would just kick it straight ahead of bounds.
- 36:24Where I'm not. I would rather than try to move
- 36:26the ball 60 yards then put the ball in that guy's hands.
- 36:29There's just no way. I, I think this record is
- 36:33destined to be broken. It may not beat him.
- 36:35I I think it probably will be. He's got it set up.
- 36:38He's having a team with a terrible defense and so he's
- 36:41getting a lot of opportunities. Let's see, he's got 25 returns
- 36:44already this season. You're five games.
- 36:46That's 5A game that's in court. That's too much.
- 36:49That is too many times. I mean, minimum is 1A game,
- 36:53right? Because you have to kick off
- 36:55either at the start of the game or to add halftime.
- 36:58So minimum has won a game and he's got 25 through 5 games.
- 37:03That's not great. Not the point.
- 37:06I know I like as long as the 71 yards.
- 37:09I would think as the season goes on, it's going to both get
- 37:12harder and easier because people are going to want to not play on
- 37:15special teams rights. These guys only job the special
- 37:18teams overall. That's that's what they do.
- 37:20They they've got physicians in the team, but you are a special
- 37:23teams player because as injuries happens now you're now your
- 37:27kickoff guy has to go in his linebacker, but he's still on
- 37:31kickoff. So he's got less energy on
- 37:32kickoff and so your your energy to stop it is it goes down
- 37:40there. The same thing with tickers are
- 37:41you're filling in an actual positions not to special changes
- 37:44in the natural position. I don't know.
- 37:46I think it's, I think it's set up to get broken, whether my
- 37:49chin or somebody else. But why not this year?
- 37:52And why not head right? I agree with Will completely.
- 37:54I feel like it's kind of a bit of an asterisk.
- 37:57In fact, I feel like that's kind of the same for a lot of these
- 38:00records, just because now they're 17 games, there's a
- 38:02whole extra game that a lot of these other players didn't have.
- 38:06And it's kind of the same thing with, like, career points.
- 38:10Like this is, I guess basketball, but in college is my
- 38:15basketball moment. But, you know, they added, you
- 38:18know, you can stay an extra year in college.
- 38:21So we had a guy named Armando Bacot who broke this, the career
- 38:25record of rebounds at Carolina. And it's like, OK, I mean, you
- 38:29had an extra year to do it, like give you 20% more games than
- 38:34anyone else. It's like, well, yeah, you got
- 38:36it. Like, I hope you got it.
- 38:38So it's like kind of a bummer. Like for when the way statistics
- 38:42are viewed, it's like, well, it's kind of skews everything.
- 38:44And no one's really going to take into consideration unless
- 38:47you just blew the record out of the water, in which case, OK,
- 38:50the other game doesn't really matter.
- 38:51Like, you were going to do it anyways.
- 38:53This is still, like, great. But I, I feel like, yeah, it is
- 38:58kind of a bit of an asterisk. And I do think he will break it.
- 39:01And at this point in the NFLI, feel like all you really need is
- 39:05a excellent returner and Brandon Aubrey.
- 39:09And at that point it's like, hey, we either score or they
- 39:13give it to us at the 40. We get one first down and then
- 39:16we kick a field goal, you know? So it's like no matter what, we
- 39:20win. And then if it's the Eagles that
- 39:22have it all that it's like, and then if we get close, I mean,
- 39:24we'll just we'll touch each other's butts to get this first.
- 39:27So, yeah, I don't know. I'm, I'm, I'm actually really
- 39:31excited in a weird way to see all the changes that happened
- 39:36this next offseason. You like a lot of these players
- 39:40are going to are bringing up issues that have to be decided
- 39:43again. I feel like the Tosh push will
- 39:45be revisited. I think you'll get it.
- 39:48Cool. Yeah, I agree.
- 39:49I think he's going to finish over the record because of the
- 39:51new kickoff format. And the reason that I actually
- 39:55found this stat is because I was looking just, I don't know why I
- 40:00was looking at kick return stats and I saw that he has 261 more
- 40:05return yards than any other player in the NFL right now.
- 40:09And so I was like that kind of like is like a lot.
- 40:13And so I was kind of looking at that.
- 40:15And I just happened to look up the the kick return record and I
- 40:20was like, dude, he, he's going to break the record for sure.
- 40:24I don't have the capability to do this.
- 40:26Can you check real quick how many more returns the next guys?
- 40:30You have 9. So yeah, OK, right there it is
- 40:33that you've had nine more opportunities because your team
- 40:36sucks. I mean, that's just what it is,
- 40:38is that your team is bad and so you're getting more returns.
- 40:41But hey, you know what? That's how records are broken
- 40:44and that's that's the way it goes.
- 40:48So. It's the same thing with
- 40:49receiving titles. It's like, oh, your team was bad
- 40:53enough that you guys had to throw the ball a lot during the
- 40:56season and into the late games. You know, if your team was
- 40:58better, if your defense did better, we would have just ran
- 41:01it because we didn't want to risk the interception.
- 41:03But because your team was just bad enough, we had enough of a
- 41:06reason to keep throwing the ball all.
- 41:10Right. Well, how long is your game
- 41:12going to take, you think? We can make it as fast, as slow
- 41:16as we want. 10 seconds. All right, well, let's let's do
- 41:20it. Let's do it.
- 41:21OK, so I've got three different quarterbacks here, all starting
- 41:26quarterbacks in the NFL. I'm going to list some key stats
- 41:29I've got. I've got all the stats, not all
- 41:33of them. I've got all of their passing
- 41:34stats. So if you have additional
- 41:36questions, let me know. We're going to call them
- 41:38quarterback one, quarterback 2, Quarterbacks 3 out of
- 41:40originality and I want you to tell me which one you want
- 41:44leading your team. OK, so quarterback one, we have
- 41:51a 67% completion percentage. We have 990 total yards, 6
- 41:56touchdowns, 1 interception on the season.
- 41:59Quarterback two, we have a 62.3% completion percentage, We have
- 42:06927 yards, so we are 70 yards less, well 63 yards less.
- 42:12We have 8 touchdowns and two picks, and in quarterback #3 we
- 42:19have a 66.9 completion percentage.
- 42:22We have 889 yards, 7 touchdowns, 0 pits.
- 42:28Is there anything else you'd like to know?
- 42:31I think I might know who these. People are.
- 42:36I know the last one for sure. QBR for number 1 is 57.5.
- 42:42QBR for number 2 is 57.5, QBR for #3 is 71.6.
- 42:51OK. So will I if, if Avery and I get
- 42:54if Avery and I get these right, who they are don't tell us.
- 42:56OK, OK. So, So I think the third one is
- 43:00Jalen Hertz. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:03OK, who do you think the other two are?
- 43:06I'm pretty sure the other two, 'cause I real I, I kind of
- 43:09picked up on what which direction he was going with as
- 43:12it wasn't 'cause I know the yards of the top guys.
- 43:14So I know it's not the top guys. I think it's Mac Jones and Kayla
- 43:21Williams. Oh, that's right, he's not going
- 43:23to tell us. I forgot.
- 43:26I'm really good. I'm also really good at seeing
- 43:29here stone face. So you're not going to, you're
- 43:32not going to Get Me Out of that one.
- 43:34OK. Was there?
- 43:35So was there a question? Did I?
- 43:38So, so the question is, is, is who would you want leading your
- 43:42team? What?
- 43:44Were the interceptions again for each quarterback?
- 43:47So Quarterback one has thrown 1 intersection this season,
- 43:49Quarterback 2 has thrown 2 intersections in the season, and
- 43:52quarterback 3 has thrown 0. Quick quick digress here.
- 43:56Yards per game number one has 198 yards per game.
- 44:01Number 2 has 231 yards per game and #3 has 100 and 77177 yards
- 44:09per game. Number one has taken 9 stacks
- 44:12this season #2 has taken 7 stacks this season and #3 has
- 44:17taken 15 stacks this season. I would say whoever whichever
- 44:23number Mac Jones is after I named him.
- 44:28Now I'm like having trouble remembering which number
- 44:30everyone was. Matt Jones not on the list?
- 44:35Really. Matt Jones is more one of these
- 44:38three quarterbacks. Oh damn.
- 44:41OK, let's see. So, so quick quick overview one
- 44:46more time here. Quarterback number one, 990
- 44:49yards. This touchdown 1 intersection.
- 44:52Quarterback number two 927 yards, 8 touchdowns, 2
- 44:57interceptions. Quarterback number three. 889
- 45:00yards, 7 touchdowns, 0 interceptions.
- 45:06I think I know who number one is.
- 45:08I think I know who number 1 is. Is it Rattler?
- 45:12It is Rattler. It's it is.
- 45:14Rattler. It's Spencer Rattler.
- 45:15Oh, I was off. OK, well, that makes this a lot
- 45:21more interesting now because I was like Mac Jones, though.
- 45:24And now I'm like, oh, shoot, because here's this is my brief
- 45:31thinking right now. And then I'll let her over.
- 45:33I'll let Joel speak more on it. I feel like Jalen Hurts is just
- 45:38the is doing what is needed to win games in Philadelphia.
- 45:42I don't think he's necessarily out there trying to create, you
- 45:45know, some hype for him for the next team he plays for.
- 45:47He does not throw in a whole lot.
- 45:48Doesn't feel like it feels like he's doing what is necessary to
- 45:52win. He is an Eagles player, Rattler.
- 45:55He plays on the Saints. So even though I mean he's not
- 46:00doing great, I'm sure he's at no further up than middle of the
- 46:05league in stats. But I'm sure that it would be a
- 46:09lot better if he was on a better team.
- 46:14I'd probably say Joel, you go first, you go first.
- 46:22No, but so First off, I want to say, Avery, I'm going to post
- 46:25that thing that you said about Jalen Hurts on social media and
- 46:27Eagles fans are going to absolutely RIP you apart because
- 46:30they're going to be so butthurt at you that you said something
- 46:33bad about their team. Well, then let me do it again
- 46:35and I'll like hit a little harder next time like.
- 46:42Now, Eagles fans, Eagles fans are I We already know that the
- 46:46Eagles fans are the worst, but on social media, if you say
- 46:49anything bad about their team, they are mean.
- 46:52They are so. What are you going to do?
- 46:53What are you going to do? Trash your own streets, idiots.
- 46:59So, OK, so really there's three not great options here, right?
- 47:05I was going to say, I was going to say #3 just simply because of
- 47:10the no turnovers. Because when you have no
- 47:13turnovers, that's a big factor in the game.
- 47:16Even 1 turnover can make a difference.
- 47:18And I know it's over the course of five games, but still, if you
- 47:22look at the Buccaneers, in the one game that the Buccaneers
- 47:26turned over the football, they lost in the one game that they
- 47:30turned it over. So I feel like I would say #3
- 47:35just because there's no turnovers there.
- 47:37It's 3/3 was Hertz. I'm probably straying from the
- 47:44game here, but I'm trying to see it as Kayla Williams versus
- 47:47Hurts. Hurts.
- 47:48And I feel like they're just playing different games.
- 47:55I don't want to say Kayla Williams because I wouldn't want
- 47:58to build a team around him. Probably take Hurts.
- 48:04So #3. With Hurts wasn't one of the
- 48:06three quarterbacks, but if you're just wrong.
- 48:11That's I had not considered that.
- 48:17Well, I'm almost positive that other one that I got wrong that
- 48:21wasn't Matt Jones is Spencer Rattler and I would not choose
- 48:24him. Dude, that guy's been passed
- 48:26around because he wasn't good in college his whole career.
- 48:29It's like like you're going to GoPro and then you're going, oh,
- 48:32we never realized how good you were.
- 48:36Spencer Rattlers never played for one NFL team.
- 48:38Matt Jones has played to life for them.
- 48:41No, but like in college didn't he play for, I mean he ended
- 48:45with is it South Carolina? He was at Oklahoma and.
- 48:51He was also at USCI. Think.
- 48:54Oh see he was. No, I think it was just the 2
- 48:55wasn't it? Was just maybe.
- 48:58All I know is like. Anyway, I don't want to.
- 49:01Oh, I'm seeing Caleb Williams went from Oklahoma, USC or vice
- 49:05versa, One or two. Yeah, first one, yeah, yeah, I
- 49:11would take, I would take Hertz. And then assuming it's the other
- 49:14guy is shoot, who were we saying Caleb is Rattler, Caleb
- 49:19Williams. I'd take Caleb Williams a
- 49:20second. I just, there's something about
- 49:24him that's throwing me off. I don't, I don't know what it
- 49:28is, but that guy is a little bit of an enigma and a little bit
- 49:33not of an enigma enough. I just, I don't know, right?
- 49:43I want to say this other thing. Yeah, it's it's.
- 49:46Cornerback Quarterback number one is Spencer Rattler.
- 49:49You were correct. He is 119 of 177 this season,
- 49:5467% complete percentage. So 990 yards, 6 touchdowns, one
- 49:59pick. He honestly is not having
- 50:01statistically a bad season. The Saints are just bad and he
- 50:05looks bad doing. That's the problem is that he
- 50:07looks bad doing quarterback. Number 2 is Caleb Williams.
- 50:11You were correct. He is 81 of 130 this season.
- 50:14They have only played four games.
- 50:16They're by week already and he is at 927 yards, 8 touchdowns, 2
- 50:21picks. He's having statistically a
- 50:24pretty good season. He heard he has a bye and the
- 50:27number 3 is Jalen Hurts. You were right there as well.
- 50:30Who's 93 of 139, which is a 66.9% completion, 7 touchdown, 0
- 50:36picks and, and they're obviously four and one.
- 50:39And so I, I think what I'm getting at here with this game
- 50:42is that if you put Jalen Hurts on the Saints or the Bears and,
- 50:48and if you were to just swap Jalen Williams, Jalen Hurts and
- 50:52Kayla Williams teams, I think those teams are in the exact
- 50:56same spot. I think the Eagles are still
- 50:58four and one. I think the Bears are still two
- 50:59and two. I, I think that those two are
- 51:03interchangeable. I think Spencer Rattler is a big
- 51:05of a misnomer here. I I do think it's funny that
- 51:08rattlers having a better season kind of than Kelly Williams,
- 51:12because everybody talks about all the bears fans talk about
- 51:14how good Kelly Williams is. He's not, but he's also new
- 51:18playing four games. So I I just wanted to point out
- 51:21the fact that that nobody's following Jalen Hurts a good
- 51:24quarterback. No one's following him.
- 51:26He's the best quarterback in the league.
- 51:28He's not often considered even top five, but any time you you
- 51:33talk about the Eagles or you talk about Jalen Hurts, it's
- 51:37Super Bowl champion Jalen Hurts. Well, sure, but he didn't read.
- 51:42I mean, yes, the the Chiefs stopped the run and Jalen Hurts
- 51:47had to throw the football in the Super Bowl.
- 51:50He did win it with his arm pretty well in the Super Bowl,
- 51:54but that is not that came any. I think you were you started
- 51:57Avery where he's doing he's best enough to win and he doesn't
- 52:00he's not doing more. He doesn't have to sure, but
- 52:03still on seasons like that, the quarterback is going to be the
- 52:06one that takes the hit for it. And when it comes down to it and
- 52:10he gets further in the season and they're people are committed
- 52:13to stop the run, but yet their cornerback play hasn't been
- 52:18there. I I am worried, not like I'm
- 52:21worried the Eagles because I don't like those guys, but I
- 52:24wouldn't be. I was suspect that the Eagles
- 52:27have a rough time pulling those back.
- 52:30When he starts slow, it's hard to pick up later in the season.
- 52:35I would say I mean, well, let me clarify with Jalen Hurts, I
- 52:39don't mean he's like not doing any more than he needs to.
- 52:43I would just say that I mean he's doing what the team has
- 52:49required of him. Like he's going above and beyond
- 52:51for the team at I guessed at like while sacrificing some
- 52:58quarterback stats that you would like to show off.
- 53:01You know, if if down the road he's looking at his stats and
- 53:04his kids are asking like, what about this season?
- 53:06You this whole stretch, you didn't have many passing yards.
- 53:08Like, well, it's you know, because we have Barclay and
- 53:11we're trying to run it more and, you know, we wanted to be able
- 53:13to, you know, trick them and conserve plays this way and that
- 53:16way. And they're like, yeah, I just
- 53:18don't think you were that great at throwing, you know, where
- 53:20it's one of those things where it's like, hey, you're not going
- 53:22to have a statistically great year.
- 53:24I mean, year, not wide receiver is already like complaining
- 53:28online. So I'm like, I mean, you guys
- 53:31are winning though. And I mean, you're kind of
- 53:34looking like the Chiefs this year.
- 53:37You're looking like that team that everyone wants to beat.
- 53:40I mean, you won the Super Bowl. The Chiefs aren't great by the
- 53:43way, I did have them not making the Super the playoffs and it's
- 53:47looking good for me so far. But.
- 53:48It's still early. But just saying like, hey, dude,
- 53:51you're the quarterback on the best team.
- 53:53All you got to make make sure is that the team keeps winning.
- 53:56Like if you're winning, you're good.
- 53:58So I like it's hard to tell what he's really capable of, what
- 54:03he's capable of because he's in a system that requires him to do
- 54:08his job that he needs to do rather than like, hey, let's see
- 54:11what you got. You know, hey, we're kind of at
- 54:13a loss here. You know, Baker Mayfield going
- 54:15in Tampa's, Hey, just be you, let's see what you got.
- 54:18And then like, we'll build some pieces around it.
- 54:20This is more like, we need you to do this.
- 54:23We need guys to to to push your butt.
- 54:26They are going to pack your fudge, you know, to get you over
- 54:30that line. You know, it's like it's not
- 54:32going to be comfortable. It's not going to be pretty.
- 54:34It's not going to be fun, but you're going to win and everyone
- 54:36knows you're going to do it and everyone's going to see you
- 54:38getting your, you know, you know, pushed on national
- 54:41television. You're not going to be throwing
- 54:43it as much. Your receiver, your top receiver
- 54:45is going to be upset, but you're going to be winning games.
- 54:47So I think, oh, let's say I think he's a good player.
- 54:53My main point was that I wasn't sure if you were comparing these
- 54:56quarterbacks to, to make a point that they're all about the same
- 55:00level or that the teams don't change much.
- 55:04Like if you swap the quarterbacks around, the teams
- 55:06are going to do the like just as well.
- 55:09Because I would say that that is true.
- 55:12I feel like most of those quarterbacks could be just
- 55:14swapped around. But I think that's less about
- 55:17the quarterbacks being the same and more about it having more to
- 55:22do with the teams. Like swapping a quarterback
- 55:25isn't going to make the team a whole lot better.
- 55:28You know, bringing in Flacco to the Browns of the Bengals isn't
- 55:33going to stop him from getting his leg snapped.
- 55:34Like it's just not like that's it's already happened to two
- 55:37quarterbacks. It's like, dude, you're being
- 55:41thrown into the meat grinder right now.
- 55:43Like this is the fastest way to retirement possible Anyway.
- 55:49Yeah. Yeah, I don't know.
- 55:51I actually don't know what my actual point was here.
- 55:55Just just to point out stats. Truly, it was just to point out
- 55:57stats like we we give both Spencer Rattler and we mean me
- 56:03specifically against Spencer Rattler and Carrie Williams, so
- 56:07much crap. These guys are bad.
- 56:09You can't do anything. Then draft the Tyler Shark.
- 56:11Tyler Shark can't even play. Kid wins the terrible
- 56:14quarterback there. You just can't do anything.
- 56:16But yet statistically minus the win loss column, statistically
- 56:21those guys are having better seasons than Super Bowl champion
- 56:25Jalen Hurts. But in the same vein, we talked
- 56:30about how Pat Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes has not had as good as
- 56:34statistically regular seasons over the past few years because
- 56:39he doesn't have to. So it's just kind of one of
- 56:42those, like, what is it like a gluttonous thing?
- 56:45Like your team is so good that you know what, I don't have to
- 56:49be good. They can be good.
- 56:51I don't have to. So I don't know.
- 56:53I didn't really have a point. I was just pointing out
- 56:56statistically where he ranked Jalen Hurts, his 23rd on the
- 57:01quarterback ranking list right now for like yards and stuff
- 57:05like that. 23rd in the NFL. Yep, but for the Eagles, doesn't
- 57:09really matter because they're four and one doesn't matter.
- 57:12So Yep. All right, so so we got probably
- 57:16about like 10 minutes left in the show.
- 57:18And so we're going to have we're going to do one more topic here
- 57:20real quick, which is who or what has been the biggest surprise of
- 57:25the NFL season so far. So I'm going to start on this
- 57:28one and the player that I think is the most surprising to me
- 57:32through five weeks of the season is Geno Smith.
- 57:37Geno Smith. Geno Smith looks like he thinks
- 57:41that he plays for The Jets again.
- 57:47He has been truly terrible this year.
- 57:50You know, he was in Seattle as a starter for three years as the
- 57:53starter and he he wasn't great, but he was a good quarterback.
- 57:59He was a good quarterback for Seattle in the three years that
- 58:01he was a starter there. And then as soon as he goes to
- 58:03the Raiders, everybody thinks it's going to be a great
- 58:05situation because Pete Carroll went and got him.
- 58:09He's worked with him before. He knows what Pete Carroll wants
- 58:11to do. And then he has just truly been
- 58:15terrible. The last time that Geno Smith
- 58:19threw more interceptions in a season than he did touchdowns
- 58:21was when he was with The Jets, and this year he has thrown 6
- 58:26touchdowns and 9 interceptions in five games, and he's on pace
- 58:30to throw 30 interceptions this year.
- 58:34If you take away Geno Smith's interceptions, the Raiders are
- 58:37in a significantly better situation than they are right
- 58:41now. They they don't go, they don't
- 58:44take it down to the very last play of the game against the
- 58:47Bears. They probably win that game
- 58:49because Geno Smith is not throwing interceptions.
- 58:51Against the Chargers. They had multiple chances to win
- 58:53that game and he just kept throwing interceptions.
- 58:56Geno Smith has truly been terrible this year.
- 58:59And so I thought he was going to be a lot better.
- 59:01I thought he was going to help the Raiders to actually compete
- 59:05and be a better team than they were last year.
- 59:07But he is on par with the quarterbacks that they had last
- 59:10year and that's not good. So that's the biggest surprise
- 59:13of the season for me is Geno Smith.
- 59:15Yeah, I was, I was pretty hyped for the Raiders this season, as
- 59:19in 10 teams, you know, Smith P Carroll.
- 59:21I mean, I I said on this show, I was pretty hyped for the
- 59:24Raiders. I actually early on was
- 59:26considering them as like, maybe I'll just be a Raiders fan.
- 59:29Vegas is easy enough to get to. We're going to a game here in a
- 59:32month like that. Maybe I was be a Raiders fan and
- 59:35then and then I didn't do that like that.
- 59:38They're just not. That's just not it.
- 59:40But but still that I I'm a bit sad about it.
- 59:45I understand. It has been pretty surprising.
- 59:46I had to look at that. Yeah, but you made a good choice
- 59:49not going with them. Yeah.
- 59:51All right, Avery, who or what has been the biggest surprise of
- 59:56the season for you so far? I'm going to have to say the
- 1:00:03number six best receiver in the league right now, Christian
- 1:00:10McCaffrey. The fact that he's standing on 2
- 1:00:14feet to me is a surprise. Yeah.
- 1:00:18He's not particularly doing great rushing.
- 1:00:21I mean, he's not doing bad necessarily, but he's not, you
- 1:00:25know, popping off. But receiving, yeah, man's a
- 1:00:29receiver now he's already got, he's averaging 77 yards a game.
- 1:00:36He's got 3 touchdowns. I just, I mean, he's got more
- 1:00:40receptions than most receivers now.
- 1:00:43It's probably just like, you've got to do everything, dude.
- 1:00:45We don't have any more weapons. So like, the fact that the 49ers
- 1:00:51are not only having to like, scramble and put some pieces
- 1:00:57together to cover for Cat McCaffrey being out, it's the
- 1:01:00opposite. It's now he is the only one
- 1:01:02around and they are having to just put everything on his
- 1:01:06shoulders and somehow that is not breaking him.
- 1:01:08And I'm still just, every time I see him, I just look at him like
- 1:01:11a glass cannon, a glass nuke. I'm like, this guy could go off
- 1:01:15and then just shatter. But so far he is not.
- 1:01:18And that is surprising to me. Yeah, that's pretty crazy.
- 1:01:23He's actually third in receptions in the whole league
- 1:01:25right now. That's pretty.
- 1:01:27Crazy with no IU, no Devo, no I mean Jennings, no pearsall from
- 1:01:34week to week. They literally have no kennel.
- 1:01:38They have no one else. He's like you said, Ebury.
- 1:01:40He's doing, you know, he is the Niners, him and Matt Jones or
- 1:01:44Brock Furry or whatever average working white guy they put back
- 1:01:47there. Yeah.
- 1:01:50All right, Will, what's the biggest surprise of the season
- 1:01:53for you so far? I'd like to start with some
- 1:01:55honorable mentions here. The Dolphins get an honorable
- 1:01:58mention as how surprisingly bad they are.
- 1:02:01The Ravens get like like they like I've got my team here and
- 1:02:06then like the next team below them is the Ravens.
- 1:02:08They are incredibly surprising. I I mean, I picked them to no
- 1:02:13win the Super Bowl one or two. I don't know, something way up
- 1:02:16there and they are just bad. And Cooper Rush is bad and
- 1:02:20Derrick Henry, I thought he would have a 3000 yard season.
- 1:02:23We'll be lucky if we had 1000 yards out of him this season.
- 1:02:26That team is just bad. But I'm going to go with Indiana
- 1:02:30Jones and the Indianapolis Colts.
- 1:02:33They had that truly surprising in the most positive way.
- 1:02:37And I'm known in this show as a bit of a hater.
- 1:02:40So I'm trying to change my image just this much.
- 1:02:44And so I, I think, and I'm not a Colts fan, but I, I do like to
- 1:02:49see bad teams be successful. Oh, also on this list, the
- 1:02:52Jaguars, They are doing very well this year.
- 1:02:55Arnold, a solid honor of interview Jaguars.
- 1:02:57But the Colts, no one, like literally no one expected them
- 1:03:03when when the quarterback battle was between Anthony Richardson
- 1:03:09and Daniel Jones. Everyone's like, oh, you have
- 1:03:13two of these statistically worst quarterbacks in the the NFL from
- 1:03:18last year battling for your starting job.
- 1:03:21And then Daniel Jones comes out and plays like he's Peyton
- 1:03:23Manning. And it's like, what is this?
- 1:03:26And it's been fun to watch Peyton, you're right, You're
- 1:03:32right. Daniel Jones can run.
- 1:03:34Peyton Manning can never run. OK, Yeah.
- 1:03:37OK. That that's exactly what I was
- 1:03:38getting at. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:41Anyway, no, I think it's been fun to watch.
- 1:03:44Also on this list, AFC S being good is so shocking.
- 1:03:50Like like they've got three teams.
- 1:03:52They could generally have two teams in the playoffs, which
- 1:03:56just hasn't happened in a long time.
- 1:03:58So I, I, I'm going to go with the Indianapolis Colts, the
- 1:04:01Indiana Jones specifically. Yeah, Yeah, that is I agree.
- 1:04:05That's very surprising. I actually think just
- 1:04:07personally, I think the Jaguars is more surprising to me than
- 1:04:09the Colts because the Colts have actually been like kind of right
- 1:04:13on the edge of of a playoff team like and they they haven't had a
- 1:04:18quarterback. And so the fact that they have a
- 1:04:20decent quarterback playing right now is is not as surprising to
- 1:04:26me as the Jaguars not just being total crap because the Jaguars
- 1:04:31have just been terrible. And the Colts have actually been
- 1:04:35like a mediocre team. Like they're like what the
- 1:04:37Dallas Cowboys were with like Jason Garrett, like the last
- 1:04:40couple years. They've just been mediocre and
- 1:04:43the Jaguars have just been terrible.
- 1:04:45So I would say the Jaguars are a little bit more surprising to me
- 1:04:47than the Colts, but I think the Colts are definitely a surprise
- 1:04:50as well. All right, well, that's all we
- 1:04:54got time for today, guys. We will be back next week with
- 1:04:57some more stuff. Again, I have no idea what we're
- 1:04:59talking about next week, but as always, don't forget to keep
- 1:05:02your balls played with. We'll see you next time.
- 1:05:05Bye now y'all. Also, Mark Davis and Sarah Kyle
- 1:05:07still sucks.
