- 0:12Speaker 2: And it's legal damn near everywhere, including California, including Texas,
- 0:18Speaker 2: and it's awesome. You just put together lineups of how
- 0:21Speaker 2: you think things are gonna go with certain players, all right,
- 0:23Speaker 2: on certain teams, football, basketball, whatever it is. Basketball's point rebounds, assists.
- 0:28Speaker 2: You could combine all three if you want. It could
- 0:30Speaker 2: be Yoki, Shay Gillis, Alexander. You could say, I think
- 0:33Speaker 2: he's gonna get more than this, He's gonna hit more
- 0:35Speaker 2: than two three pointers, whatever it is. They set the lines,
- 0:37Speaker 2: you put the lineup together, and you get a pop in.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Of course, NFL season, we're in the midst of it
- 0:42Speaker 2: right now. Same thing. You think someone's gonna get more
- 0:44Speaker 2: than a touchdown, more than a certain amount of receiving yards,
- 0:48Speaker 2: you just put your lineup together, all right. And when
- 0:50Speaker 2: you do do that with that promo code Bootleg, put
- 0:53Speaker 2: a five dollars. Lineup together, They're gonna give you fifty
- 0:56Speaker 2: dollars in free lineups. Man, we run it up. Prize
- 0:59Speaker 2: picks down to right now. Let's get into the interview podcasts.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Special guests here there in l A. They got to
- 1:08Speaker 2: sold out show tonight with Pat Devuh the Cool Kids?
- 1:12Speaker 3: What what Chuck English? Yeah, very very influential, legendary fellas Man.
- 1:20Speaker 3: New album dropped this year. Uh what what was it
- 1:24Speaker 3: about the timing right now? Where you guys are like, yo,
- 1:28Speaker 3: let's let's get in. Let's kind of bring back this
- 1:30Speaker 3: classic cool Kids flavor.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Well, right after COVID, we did what we thought was
- 1:37Speaker 4: like our coldest album. It was called Before She Got Weird,
- 1:42Speaker 4: and then she got Weird. We didn't really get to
- 1:46Speaker 4: tour that one. I don't think people.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Was outside still she got weirder after that. So in that,
- 1:54Speaker 2: in that.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Circumforts of what we were doing gave it's an opportunity
- 2:01Speaker 4: to kind of see where the world was, because, you know,
- 2:04Speaker 4: unless you got your algorithm tuned to us, there's a
- 2:08Speaker 4: lot of people that didn't know that we were still working.
- 2:11Speaker 4: I don't know how the internet work like that, you
- 2:13Speaker 4: got all the information in the.
- 2:14Speaker 2: World and it don't. Don't you like it's weird because
- 2:19Speaker 2: it's like it's unless the algorithm is feeding it to you.
- 2:22Speaker 2: It's like you really damn you.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Can miss It's it's harder to find now than it
- 2:26Speaker 5: was when you had to search for it. It's like
- 2:28Speaker 5: if you don't have it on your algorithm, you know, uh,
- 2:32Speaker 5: day by day you gotta go dig for the ship
- 2:34Speaker 5: and you might not even find it.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Now, it might not even find it's people that didn't
- 2:38Speaker 4: even know that's close to me. And then you know,
- 2:39Speaker 4: we had a show here and then looked up and
- 2:42Speaker 4: sold out. So it's like, to answer your question is
- 2:46Speaker 4: like I knew things was starting to like pick back
- 2:49Speaker 4: up and people want to pick and choose from what
- 2:51Speaker 4: they like now instead of everything being the mainstream or
- 2:55Speaker 4: you know, what's on rap caviar and all that. So
- 2:58Speaker 4: it's kind of like stay low key for and then uh,
- 3:01Speaker 4: with this particular one, you know the relationship we got
- 3:07Speaker 4: with a track and Fools Gold.
- 3:10Speaker 2: In New York.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, we went down to Houston did a whole
- 3:13Speaker 4: album with Manny Fresh, but just like you know, thinking quick,
- 3:19Speaker 4: I was like, can't raw dog and Manny Fresh album, Like,
- 3:22Speaker 4: let's let's build this back up, build this back out,
- 3:25Speaker 4: you know, Like, I know, people have the ideas of
- 3:29Speaker 4: the error we brought in and you know what came
- 3:32Speaker 4: with that. But you know we've grown now and we
- 3:36Speaker 4: got a sharper sword. So it was more about like,
- 3:40Speaker 4: let's not listen to what people have told us who
- 3:42Speaker 4: we are.
- 3:43Speaker 6: Let's just try something new. Let's just start from here and.
- 3:46Speaker 4: See what we get. And it worked, you know, like
- 3:50Speaker 4: we got two more shows left, and when we left
- 3:53Speaker 4: the crib, we was like, man, we don't know, we
- 3:56Speaker 4: don't know if we don't know what people want, you
- 3:58Speaker 4: know what I mean? You go outside and you realize
- 4:01Speaker 4: that outside and the internet is not the same thing,
- 4:04Speaker 4: not at all. You know, majority of the fans we
- 4:07Speaker 4: just met and the people that's been with us the
- 4:09Speaker 4: whole time.
- 4:10Speaker 6: And not on the internet like that, right, you know
- 4:13Speaker 6: what I mean.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Some dude brought his son to the Detroit show with
- 4:16Speaker 4: a black mag HADMI signed his son fourteen. He's like, man,
- 4:20Speaker 4: he's been listening to y'all since he was born. So
- 4:23Speaker 4: you don't see those people unless you go outside. And
- 4:26Speaker 4: it seems like from our investigation, were more outside group
- 4:31Speaker 4: it's not really things we could.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Do on the Internet. We're not Internet.
- 4:34Speaker 4: You know, I don't overshare even though we you know,
- 4:37Speaker 4: we got our personalities were funny.
- 4:40Speaker 2: He's had a streaming show.
- 4:43Speaker 4: You know, I've pitched, uh, you know, cooking content, all
- 4:48Speaker 4: this different stuff we do.
- 4:49Speaker 6: But it's like that rat race isn't as fun as this.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Well, what's interesting because because you guys, I kind of
- 4:56Speaker 2: think of you guys. I saw I pulled up the
- 5:01Speaker 2: Black Mags video and it really aged me because it's
- 5:04Speaker 2: been eighteen years, very real and uh, I got a
- 5:08Speaker 2: twenty year old but that was like damn near like
- 5:14Speaker 2: right at the genesis of the blog area, if not before.
- 5:17Speaker 6: It was way before. It was before.
- 5:21Speaker 5: So you know, there's been like there's been a couple
- 5:23Speaker 5: iterations of the Internet as what we know it now.
- 5:26Speaker 6: You know what I'm saying, Like because you you had
- 5:28Speaker 6: a crazy.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Run oh yeah, blogs like.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Yeah, it's it's been it's been a couple of internets
- 5:34Speaker 5: that you know, we've lived through, you know, all of
- 5:36Speaker 5: us in all room collectively. The one that we're in
- 5:41Speaker 5: now currently, Yeah, this one is it's a newer it's
- 5:44Speaker 5: a newer Internet is based heavily on you know, algorithms
- 5:48Speaker 5: and curating things and timelines and all of that.
- 5:51Speaker 7: Right, But there's an Internet before that that.
- 5:54Speaker 5: Was sharing, you know, links, sampling, sharing, music sharing, share,
- 6:01Speaker 5: download mixtapes, dat PIFs and all of the.
- 6:04Speaker 7: Yeah, extractors, all of the mixtape uh.
- 6:09Speaker 2: R, the.
- 6:11Speaker 7: And all that, you know what I mean. So that
- 6:12Speaker 7: was another internetssage boards, Yeah, you feel me. That was
- 6:15Speaker 7: a whole other Internet.
- 6:16Speaker 5: And you know, now we're living through another one, and
- 6:18Speaker 5: we'll see how long this one goes on for.
- 6:20Speaker 4: You know, no I said that to uh, It's like
- 6:25Speaker 4: it got kind of sinister. I think the big business
- 6:28Speaker 4: saw that we was out here. We were dropping projects
- 6:31Speaker 4: and albums and singles with real creative videos, well thought
- 6:38Speaker 4: out artwork, and you know the groups that kind of
- 6:43Speaker 4: traveled in here with us. You were able to tour
- 6:46Speaker 4: and like show up to a city and really do it.
- 6:50Speaker 4: And you know, I ain't no conspiracy theorist, but I
- 6:52Speaker 4: do believe that you can't really just what big business
- 6:56Speaker 4: ass like that without them coming back with a bigger switch.
- 7:00Speaker 2: So I feel like.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Once they condensed things down, it's like when you listen
- 7:05Speaker 4: to that blog air podcast, the real did.
- 7:07Speaker 2: And they start speaking.
- 7:10Speaker 4: They get to that part of the end where it's
- 7:12Speaker 4: like everybody started selling out for big ads, and then
- 7:17Speaker 4: you know, you can really pinpoint when it happened. It
- 7:21Speaker 4: was a deep shift, probably between late twenty fourteen twenty
- 7:26Speaker 4: sixteen when it was labels Verse streaming and then out
- 7:31Speaker 4: of nowhere, everybody's like, no, it's just streaming, and you
- 7:34Speaker 4: know what I mean, It's like they must have had
- 7:36Speaker 4: a sit down meeting and a lot of bags was
- 7:39Speaker 4: changed hands because the attitude changed. Now it's playlists, but
- 7:43Speaker 4: they already had the playlists sewed up, like the real
- 7:46Speaker 4: estate was already bought, so you couldn't creep in like
- 7:49Speaker 4: you could no more. It couldn't be like damn, I
- 7:52Speaker 4: found this on this site and I like them, you
- 7:55Speaker 4: know what I mean. Like it's almost like when I
- 7:57Speaker 4: found Gunning and Conway with with the with the Nash,
- 8:01Speaker 4: you know, with the Wrestling Project. I found that off
- 8:05Speaker 4: Yam's website, you know, like he had a real nigga
- 8:08Speaker 4: tumbler dot com. That was where hell of Ship was coming,
- 8:12Speaker 4: and it was cool to do it, you know, like
- 8:15Speaker 4: you had your you didn't have your music on your phone,
- 8:19Speaker 4: you had an iPod or you had your laptop or
- 8:21Speaker 4: the iPod. I was looking when they killed the iPod.
- 8:24Speaker 4: They killed it for a minutes because the iPod. I
- 8:28Speaker 4: remember how like someone stole my iPod from my car
- 8:31Speaker 4: Valley Driver in Vegas, bro, and I tell you I
- 8:33Speaker 4: had that motherfucker was a five twelve hacked up you.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Know, heartbreak. I've been looking. iPods are going for like
- 8:41Speaker 2: serious money, right yeah, man.
- 8:42Speaker 6: Everything is taped.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Like we did a package and shout out to the
- 8:47Speaker 4: Hammies from lambs uh in New York. But we did
- 8:50Speaker 4: a We did a deluxe package for the album where
- 8:54Speaker 4: it was a deluxe in your hand. It wasn't like
- 8:57Speaker 4: we're just telling you it's a deluxe, what like two
- 8:59Speaker 4: extra songs on right right right. We had it in
- 9:01Speaker 4: a in a box with seven inch picture disc, the vinyl,
- 9:07Speaker 4: the CD, two T shirts, and then we gave you
- 9:09Speaker 4: a CD player with headphones that worked, which is crazy
- 9:12Speaker 4: for one hundred and fifty dollars, that's amazing. But that's
- 9:16Speaker 4: it flew off the shelf, you know what I mean.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Because people want to hold things in their hand. It's
- 9:22Speaker 4: burnt out right now.
- 9:23Speaker 2: It's funny because we're talking about kind of like a
- 9:26Speaker 2: playlist real estate being taken up. You know, I always
- 9:31Speaker 2: say this, like the blog era had gatekeepers, but they
- 9:35Speaker 2: had good taste. Taste that was the point of it.
- 9:38Speaker 7: You know.
- 9:39Speaker 2: It's like shake or boys posted some ship. I'd be like, oh,
- 9:44Speaker 2: I know, I'll probably enjoy it. Or I also knew
- 9:47Speaker 2: like I could send them ship from like my hometown,
- 9:50Speaker 2: and if they fucked with it, they just posted. It
- 9:52Speaker 2: didn't matter if there was not a follower.
- 9:54Speaker 6: Thing like it.
- 9:56Speaker 2: How many monthly listeners they got, because if I would see,
- 9:58Speaker 2: there's so many metrics.
- 9:59Speaker 6: Now you see how they did that.
- 10:01Speaker 4: They started they started shifting in like how many followers
- 10:03Speaker 4: you got? How many monthly listeners? You know, you got
- 10:05Speaker 4: crazy knowing that if you know anything about tech, like
- 10:09Speaker 4: how we do I went to school with coders and
- 10:13Speaker 4: people that hacking all that shit. Once you start realizing
- 10:16Speaker 4: that that number that you see is about as fake
- 10:19Speaker 4: as is a hologram.
- 10:21Speaker 6: You know what I mean, you can put your finger
- 10:22Speaker 6: through it.
- 10:23Speaker 4: So monthly listeners, Okay, somebody got five hundred and thirty
- 10:28Speaker 4: thousand monthly listeners, about one hundred and twenty of them
- 10:32Speaker 4: are real humans. So now that person is getting a
- 10:35Speaker 4: spot ahead of you, right with fluff in.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Front of you. It's crazy because I said this on
- 10:42Speaker 2: a podcast where I was getting interviewed. In me maybe
- 10:45Speaker 2: it was a little a little bit of an exaggeration,
- 10:47Speaker 2: but all of these labels, like the marketing there's a
- 10:52Speaker 2: digital marketing budget that they bacon everyone's budget, right, and
- 10:56Speaker 2: so like how like I don't know to this day,
- 10:59Speaker 2: like right now and you know, whatever date is in
- 11:01Speaker 2: twenty twenty five. For a lot of years, the digital
- 11:04Speaker 2: marketing budget was how do we pay for user curated playlisting.
- 11:09Speaker 2: There'd be some bruh who got the plug on like
- 11:11Speaker 2: fifty playlists. Oh yeah, like yo, I got a Fast
- 11:15Speaker 2: and the Furious ten playlist. It's got like one hundred
- 11:18Speaker 2: thousand followers. There's three hundred dollars to get on that motherfucker,
- 11:21Speaker 2: you know.
- 11:21Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, yeah, like I seen that play.
- 11:23Speaker 6: Yeah, they step and play, you.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Know, and then like most of the time the artists
- 11:29Speaker 2: don't even know that she's going on. But then they
- 11:31Speaker 2: you know, obviously they got to recoup that bread like
- 11:33Speaker 2: it's it's an interesting time. And then even just like
- 11:35Speaker 2: you guys said, like the real testament is like can
- 11:38Speaker 2: you feel a venue, yeah, with.
- 11:41Speaker 7: The bodies that with the eyes and ears that you know.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not just like merch bundles. It's not just
- 11:46Speaker 4: transactional like that. Like right now you're gonna see it's
- 11:50Speaker 4: gonna be a different wave coming. Like it's a lot
- 11:54Speaker 4: of big artists. They can't even put together four hundred
- 11:57Speaker 4: people in one spot. And they got millions and millions
- 12:01Speaker 4: of this, but that million is just sending them off.
- 12:04Speaker 6: And robbing them.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Because especially if you're a new artist, like you've only
- 12:08Speaker 4: grown up knowing this route. Right now, this route is
- 12:11Speaker 4: over and it's more smoke than you could ever imagine,
- 12:14Speaker 4: right because you've never seen the people. You never went outside.
- 12:17Speaker 4: You ain't never elbowed or adapt nobody. You ain't never
- 12:19Speaker 4: talked to your people that listen to you, you know
- 12:22Speaker 4: what I mean? Something that almost made us both tier up.
- 12:24Speaker 4: If somebody came to our Toronto show with every single
- 12:27Speaker 4: piece of everything we ever.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Did, that's so crazy, you know what I mean? Like
- 12:31Speaker 2: I still have my uh, y'all did like a collapse
- 12:34Speaker 2: shirt with famous stars and straps. I think you guys
- 12:37Speaker 2: opened up for cute we did?
- 12:41Speaker 4: We did?
- 12:43Speaker 2: Yeah, that shirt at the Market Theater and we did
- 12:45Speaker 2: one with the clips too.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Yeah, right before everything kind of shut down. Our livest
- 12:50Speaker 4: Real tour room was with the clips.
- 12:51Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 12:52Speaker 4: So like when we was working, we was working on
- 12:54Speaker 4: an album and they was like, yeah, no, we back outside.
- 12:56Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, it's the best time, you know what
- 12:59Speaker 4: I mean. The last time we we put the ball up,
- 13:01Speaker 4: they put the ball up, you know what I mean.
- 13:03Speaker 4: So I think that just kind of understanding how people work,
- 13:09Speaker 4: and the people that like you work, it was easy
- 13:11Speaker 4: for us to.
- 13:14Speaker 6: Throw a dart and hit the bulls up.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Hey, we gotta stop the interview to tell you about
- 13:16Speaker 2: our good folks. Odd Socks, man, Now, these are the
- 13:19Speaker 2: odd Socks basics, ladies and gentlemen. Now, when I tell
- 13:23Speaker 2: you this is a product that every single day I'm
- 13:27Speaker 2: alive for the last five six years I have used
- 13:32Speaker 2: are these odd Socks basics. Now, what odd Socks is
- 13:34Speaker 2: doing is they're kind of reinventing the sock game, if
- 13:36Speaker 2: we're being honest, and the underwear game. You know, a
- 13:38Speaker 2: lot of times you'll hit Walmart, you'll hit Target, you'll
- 13:40Speaker 2: get some socks, you get some draws. They're affordable, stand
- 13:44Speaker 2: up with holes in them. They don't really feel great,
- 13:47Speaker 2: not odd Socks, Ladies and gentlemen. These odd Socks basics
- 13:50Speaker 2: are the most comfortable socks I've ever had on my feet.

- 14:10Speaker 2: Ah, you see that. Sorry you had to see those
- 14:14Speaker 2: white legs. But it's so dope that you know, I
- 14:18Speaker 2: get to push a product that I use and that
- 14:20Speaker 2: I love, so odd Socks they got the six pack
- 14:23Speaker 2: of socks for fourteen ninety nine a odd socks dot
- 14:25Speaker 2: com the basics. This is the future of socks, the
- 14:29Speaker 2: future of underwear comfort and affordability. I'm talking about affordability

- 14:48Speaker 2: over there. Make sure you get some right now. Odd
- 14:50Speaker 2: socks dot Com let's get back to the interview, because
- 14:52Speaker 2: I feel like when we talk about influence and because
- 14:59Speaker 2: you know, I think it's just your guys's influence on
- 15:00Speaker 2: fashion alone. Like I always say this, but like you know,
- 15:05Speaker 2: I think Tigers sometimes gets credit for like bringing snapbacks back.
- 15:08Speaker 2: But y'all did that.
- 15:10Speaker 6: I told him we did.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Like y'all brought the snap back a lot, a lot,
- 15:16Speaker 2: a lot.
- 15:17Speaker 7: But this just the thing.
- 15:20Speaker 5: Ain't no shout out to bro. Fuck that nigga, man,
- 15:22Speaker 5: this is what I'm talking about. We got documentation these
- 15:26Speaker 5: you guys, videos with dates, videos with dates and times
- 15:31Speaker 5: on them to pre date anything, all them dudes talking about. Man,
- 15:35Speaker 5: it's like, just go do the homework, do the knowledge, man,
- 15:38Speaker 5: Like it's all there.
- 15:39Speaker 7: It's all documented, and you guys have.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Your fingerprints on like an era And like I feel
- 15:43Speaker 2: like you know him and I because him and I
- 15:45Speaker 2: are you know, similar in age and we're both similar
- 15:47Speaker 2: tasting hip hop. So it's a couple of weeks ago
- 15:50Speaker 2: hit me. It's like, yo, cool kids got to show
- 15:52Speaker 2: a Pac dav And I was like, word, that's fire.
- 15:55Speaker 4: That's the That's exactly what we wanted it to be. Like,
- 15:58Speaker 4: So if you knew about it. You know, it's fired,
- 16:00Speaker 4: Like now somebody told you about it and you didn't
- 16:03Speaker 4: know you hearing this fire right, So now we're creating
- 16:06Speaker 4: a whole nother it's new conversation.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I was gonna say, like, your guys is like, how
- 16:10Speaker 2: do you guys kind of look at your guys's legacy
- 16:15Speaker 2: and like, do you guys kind of because I feel
- 16:17Speaker 2: like you guys are underappreciated and definitely underrated when we
- 16:20Speaker 2: talk about the grand scheme of the last twenty years
- 16:23Speaker 2: of hip hop, and.
- 16:24Speaker 5: I feel like we me personally, I feel like we
- 16:29Speaker 5: we are just now beginning to get you know, on
- 16:33Speaker 5: the right foot and get this shit right and get
- 16:36Speaker 5: a fair shake at what we're doing here. And that's
- 16:40Speaker 5: only because the world has shifted now, you know, everybody
- 16:44Speaker 5: sees like the fun and the freedom being snatched away
- 16:48Speaker 5: every day. There's some new shit Netflix just brought, Disney
- 16:51Speaker 5: and HBO and Paramount that's not good. Like we see
- 16:54Speaker 5: this type of shit happening every day. It's new things
- 16:57Speaker 5: and new horrors that the corporations.
- 16:59Speaker 7: Is putting up.
- 17:00Speaker 6: You got to pay money.
- 17:01Speaker 5: It's all about being like in a physical space with
- 17:04Speaker 5: the media and with the art now and being able
- 17:07Speaker 5: to like uh, being able to to to to feel it,
- 17:10Speaker 5: you know, something tangible, man. And I think that's definitely
- 17:13Speaker 5: where we we shine at. I think that our personalities,
- 17:17Speaker 5: our presence are you know, our friendship and camaraderie, our relationship,
- 17:22Speaker 5: all that stuff really translates well in the real world again.
- 17:26Speaker 7: And I think that that currency is starting to go
- 17:28Speaker 7: up again. Man.
- 17:29Speaker 6: So it's outside and stay.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Working out, stayed you know, stayed in in rap shape,
- 17:34Speaker 5: stayed in mental shape, and you know, stay low and
- 17:37Speaker 5: kept firing like you said, man, And I think that
- 17:40Speaker 5: the cycle is just coming back around now where it's
- 17:42Speaker 5: actually gonna you know, make sense for dudes like us
- 17:45Speaker 5: to really you know, step into the position we wanted to.
- 17:48Speaker 4: If you when you get into a world where every
- 17:50Speaker 4: single inconvenience that has brought into you has offered a
- 17:53Speaker 4: price to be less inconvenient, mean like, oh, watch this
- 17:57Speaker 4: ad free, Like why the fuck would you put that
- 18:00Speaker 4: is in it? If you know we don't want.
- 18:01Speaker 6: To see that ship.
- 18:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I gotta pay extra five dollars to not be
- 18:07Speaker 4: annoyed by something that you was offering me that should
- 18:10Speaker 4: have made or entertained me. So we got so used
- 18:14Speaker 4: to that small stab, that small stab, like extra fee
- 18:18Speaker 4: pay for leg room, Like why the fuck is the
- 18:21Speaker 4: plane show goddamn small that I gotta pay extra hundred
- 18:24Speaker 4: dollars just to stretch my shit up.
- 18:26Speaker 6: That's a bad world and that's bad business.
- 18:28Speaker 4: And now it's starting to crumble on itself, like they
- 18:30Speaker 4: they now it's like, oh, put AI in this.
- 18:33Speaker 6: We don't want it now, what now, y'all?
- 18:36Speaker 4: Two three trillion dollars into this shit in the world
- 18:38Speaker 4: is not gonna fuck with it, bro. And then when
- 18:40Speaker 4: you go outside and you really hear how people are
- 18:43Speaker 4: responding to things, like seeing how they go see showed,
- 18:47Speaker 4: seeing how people are in red lobster again and the
- 18:50Speaker 4: food is good, and fuck all that extra shit, man,
- 18:52Speaker 4: I don't want to pay two hundred dollars to eat
- 18:54Speaker 4: with my family. It's just not gonna go well. And
- 18:57Speaker 4: they thought it was. They're like they just we could
- 19:00Speaker 4: just they'll just keep paying. I'm a wrestling fan and
- 19:02Speaker 4: that's what wide like, I'm a huge dressing fan. So
- 19:04Speaker 4: like w W E just got they got bought by
- 19:07Speaker 4: t k O who owns UFC. Yeah, and they were
- 19:09Speaker 4: just fucking gouging.
- 19:10Speaker 7: Gouging right, it's sad man, You're like damn.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Like I told my kid, I was like, hey, that
- 19:16Speaker 2: ship crazy next year.
- 19:18Speaker 6: It's like it's like going to see.
- 19:20Speaker 5: A sports gonna happen to a lot, a lot of
- 19:22Speaker 5: events and a lot of now because people are gonna
- 19:25Speaker 5: do like you're saying, it's gonna come to that breaking
- 19:27Speaker 5: point where they're just like man, funk that we're not
- 19:29Speaker 5: going like I'm not paying and we go watch it
- 19:34Speaker 5: on Street East.
- 19:35Speaker 6: I ain't gonna lie to you. Do you know how
- 19:36Speaker 6: many people I know over this Christmas?
- 19:39Speaker 4: This is something interesting to bring up, like just outside
- 19:43Speaker 4: like I could be, you know, poking a bear. But
- 19:46Speaker 4: everybody I know that's a grown man with kids and
- 19:49Speaker 4: they talk to their wife what you want for Christmas?
- 19:52Speaker 4: I want to crack firestick. Every man I know, like
- 19:56Speaker 4: back home now, living back in Detroit, popping back and
- 19:59Speaker 4: forth off the Chicago everybody I know, they're like, yeah,
- 20:02Speaker 4: I got the cracked fire stick. I don't even go
- 20:04Speaker 4: to the movies.
- 20:05Speaker 2: I didn't even show the crack firestick where you can
- 20:07Speaker 2: sell them. Yeah you got.
- 20:10Speaker 7: I've been on them for a minute.
- 20:11Speaker 6: They're back like cook crapy now though.
- 20:13Speaker 2: The point where something you press play on some ship
- 20:16Speaker 2: and it would.
- 20:16Speaker 5: Just be like it's to the point now where it's
- 20:20Speaker 5: to the point now where there's cubes. Now they're like
- 20:23Speaker 5: the fire cube and ship which hold a lot of memory.
- 20:26Speaker 7: You could put all.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Type of apps from Korea, all types of ship on
- 20:30Speaker 5: there where you're watching movies, series whatever.
- 20:33Speaker 2: You know, it's been four or five years since I
- 20:35Speaker 2: was you know, Nikkel and Diamond on the side, some
- 20:38Speaker 2: some some.
- 20:39Speaker 7: Good old fire he fu business.
- 20:42Speaker 6: Steal from them, niggas, man, But we talk about.
- 20:47Speaker 5: Create all these goddamn apps. I gotta pay for every
- 20:50Speaker 5: month now. No, I just got to steal all of them.
- 20:52Speaker 4: And you did it like like you get. There's people
- 20:55Speaker 4: with teslas and ship. I know, my man, he got
- 20:57Speaker 4: locked up. He got locked inside his test.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I got a truck.
- 21:00Speaker 6: Yeah, they locked inside Tesla.
- 21:02Speaker 5: Bro.
- 21:03Speaker 2: That's wild.
- 21:03Speaker 4: And then Bro Bro, I don't know what happened, but
- 21:06Speaker 4: Bro just made an extra three hundred billion in the
- 21:09Speaker 4: past three weeks. No, he's the richest, he said, Jeff
- 21:12Speaker 4: three hundred No, I know, he's Jeff Bezosberg all combined.
- 21:18Speaker 4: He still got more money than you don't need that
- 21:21Speaker 4: much money. Now now we don't care.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Bro. I think the billionaire ship is cooked.
- 21:25Speaker 7: I was treating like.
- 21:26Speaker 4: That when the fires happened that super wait till something
- 21:29Speaker 4: else happened.
- 21:30Speaker 6: Bro, they go to all this ship.
- 21:32Speaker 2: That's why I'm like, I got the I like pre
- 21:34Speaker 2: ordered that cyber truck like five years before it came out.
- 21:37Speaker 2: They put after email and I was like this right before,
- 21:42Speaker 2: like I think I got my ship. I think I
- 21:44Speaker 2: confirmed it in February and I had to pay, and
- 21:47Speaker 2: then by like June it was like, oh fuck, this
- 21:50Speaker 2: fool was like this weekend.
- 21:56Speaker 5: Fesse too, because when he was announcing him like two thousand,
- 21:59Speaker 5: I mean twenty twenty. Around that time, he was like, yeah, yeah,
- 22:02Speaker 5: he's gonna be like forty racks, forty balls. They come out,
- 22:05Speaker 5: he said, a hundo. As soon as they hit the market,
- 22:07Speaker 5: it's like, oh he did the old bait and switch.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Man.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I always wonder you guys, was you guys uh when
- 22:14Speaker 2: when Fish Ride Bicycles comes out in twenty eleven. Yeah,
- 22:19Speaker 2: at that point our album comes out, and then it
- 22:21Speaker 2: feels like you guys kind of split away and like
- 22:23Speaker 2: you were you know, like I said, you have a
- 22:25Speaker 2: fucking very slept on incredible catalog as Sir Michael Rocks
- 22:29Speaker 2: as a solo artist, and Chuck you were fucking doing
- 22:31Speaker 2: all your shit producing, going crazy. What was that point
- 22:35Speaker 2: in time where you guys are like, you know what,
- 22:36Speaker 2: like the cool kid shit, let's just put it on
- 22:40Speaker 2: the back burner.
- 22:40Speaker 5: Man, bro I remember that very vividly, man, because around
- 22:44Speaker 5: that time, like you said, it's like twenty eleven, twenty
- 22:47Speaker 5: twelve ish. I remember I was living in Chicago still.
- 22:52Speaker 5: I think he had dipped out to La already. But
- 22:55Speaker 5: you know, we dropped the album, we did some some touring,
- 22:59Speaker 5: and we just knew that the world had hit a shift.
- 23:04Speaker 4: Man.
- 23:05Speaker 5: Me personally, I just recognized like, okay, uh Chief Keith
- 23:10Speaker 5: Nim just came out like the drill ship just started popping,
- 23:13Speaker 5: super super crazy. Nobody wanted to hear nothing at that
- 23:18Speaker 5: time but sliding on your ops and and and and
- 23:21Speaker 5: who you're smoking in the blunt, you know what I mean.
- 23:22Speaker 5: So it was kind of like I was like, oh,
- 23:25Speaker 5: it's not really the best time for us to be
- 23:29Speaker 5: just you know, keep on poking people in the back,
- 23:32Speaker 5: like hey, listen to this, listen to this.
- 23:33Speaker 7: It's like we probably should get this.
- 23:34Speaker 5: Give it this a second, you know, and let's let's
- 23:37Speaker 5: you know, use our other our other skill sets, our other.
- 23:41Speaker 7: Networks, and you know, keep creating.
- 23:43Speaker 5: Obviously, like the whole time, he was still sending me
- 23:46Speaker 5: beats from my solo.
- 23:48Speaker 7: Shit. Uh, he's still sending me songs and she's.
- 23:51Speaker 5: Like, oh, yeah, you should do this, you shoot the
- 23:53Speaker 5: video and so and so we still like are very
- 23:55Speaker 5: much in tune and and on the same path and
- 23:58Speaker 5: on the same page. We just knew that as the
- 24:01Speaker 5: cool kids at that point in time, it was time
- 24:03Speaker 5: to like just you know, put that on ice for
- 24:05Speaker 5: a second. You don't you don't let it melt, you
- 24:07Speaker 5: don't let it die, you know, you just put it
- 24:09Speaker 5: on ice and preserve it for when the time is
- 24:10Speaker 5: right again. So we just knew that it was time
- 24:13Speaker 5: to you know, just take some take some alternate routes
- 24:16Speaker 5: for a second, and then we meet back up when
- 24:18Speaker 5: it feels good again, right right.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Right, Chuck? Uh, can you talk just about like for
- 24:24Speaker 2: you because production has changed so much. We just talked
- 24:27Speaker 2: to somebody who was saying that they're using like AI
- 24:30Speaker 2: for samples now, Like if they need a vocal sample,
- 24:32Speaker 2: they can get it from AI and then chop it
- 24:33Speaker 2: up and you know which I respect. It is what
- 24:35Speaker 2: it is. But for you as a producer, man, like,
- 24:38Speaker 2: are you still like in the trenches sending out packs?
- 24:41Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. I don't send no packs.
- 24:43Speaker 2: You gotta call me.
- 24:45Speaker 4: I did, But it's like there's certain pride that I
- 24:49Speaker 4: have to my work. Nah, if it's for example, I
- 24:53Speaker 4: send Larry a whole bunch of beats of people that
- 24:55Speaker 4: I didn't kind of you got, you know, of course,
- 24:58Speaker 4: of course, yeah, like send y'all some beats, you know,
- 25:02Speaker 4: like stuff I was doing or I am currently doing
- 25:05Speaker 4: with seafood, saying like I'll pick and choose, but you know,
- 25:08Speaker 4: somebody's manager and are like, chuck, let me get a
- 25:11Speaker 4: pack of beats.
- 25:12Speaker 6: It's it's cool. It was cool when it was cool.
- 25:16Speaker 4: Now it's not cool because if you sit in the
- 25:18Speaker 4: studio and you peat the psychology, you give somebody a
- 25:21Speaker 4: whole bunch of beats, they're not gonna focus on the
- 25:24Speaker 4: first one they play. They're gonna try to go through
- 25:26Speaker 4: the whole thing and just listen to it was put up,
- 25:28Speaker 4: the next one, put up the next one.
- 25:30Speaker 6: And you can't audition my ship like that.
- 25:32Speaker 4: I worked too hard. You know what I sound like.
- 25:35Speaker 4: If you want something that sound like something, talk to
- 25:37Speaker 4: me about it.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Build this communication.
- 25:39Speaker 4: Yeah, but yeah, that's it's it's it's quiet storm outside.
- 25:46Speaker 4: For the young producers, a lot of kids, you know,
- 25:50Speaker 4: they saw it as like, all, let's work together and
- 25:53Speaker 4: you put this and put this, and then they get
- 25:55Speaker 4: to the finish line and it come time for splits
- 25:57Speaker 4: and then your man's just slimming you. Or even the
- 26:00Speaker 4: shit that you used was made by somebody else, so
- 26:03Speaker 4: you don't.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Even know it.
- 26:04Speaker 4: Yeah, not a song on the radio gotta get taken
- 26:06Speaker 4: down because.
- 26:07Speaker 2: If somebody sent the loop, they didn't get credzy.
- 26:09Speaker 4: No, because we're in this streaming eror and everything has
- 26:14Speaker 4: to be a transaction. Now if you would have did that,
- 26:18Speaker 4: you know, twenty eleven, twenty ten, that song is on
- 26:23Speaker 4: an album that's being spread worldwide with no transaction, so
- 26:27Speaker 4: the publishing is not really there. It's just energy, right,
- 26:31Speaker 4: you know what I mean. And that's kind of where
- 26:34Speaker 4: the fun gets taken out if you're making stuff.
- 26:37Speaker 6: That's why there is imp.
- 26:41Speaker 4: Implanation. What I know that word implemented. You know, you
- 26:47Speaker 4: can call it AI, but it's it's just it's just
- 26:49Speaker 4: really like the.
- 26:50Speaker 6: Keyboard and looking for you know, it's the same shit.
- 26:55Speaker 4: You know how many keyboards, core keyboards that have a
- 26:57Speaker 4: pre determined loop, piano run all of those different things.
- 27:04Speaker 4: Music and AI is very very easy to hear. What
- 27:08Speaker 4: is It's not like people are stupid, you know what
- 27:11Speaker 4: I mean. But if you take somebody right now who
- 27:15Speaker 4: wants to use a vocal sample didn't know it was,
- 27:18Speaker 4: you know, like some archie in the drill ship that's
- 27:22Speaker 4: gonna cost you two hundred thousand dollars and put.
- 27:24Speaker 6: You in a hole that you can't never get out of.
- 27:27Speaker 4: It makes it like incentivizes people to go and use
- 27:33Speaker 4: AI sounds and.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Yeah, like I need I need a I need to
- 27:36Speaker 2: acquire to sample.
- 27:39Speaker 4: You don't got that money, bro, So most you know
- 27:43Speaker 4: what I mean, that's how you use it too. Like
- 27:46Speaker 4: it's like when I moved out to l A. I
- 27:50Speaker 4: came out here, like alchemists convinced me to come out here.
- 27:53Speaker 4: And when I got out here, before I got an apartment,
- 27:55Speaker 4: I would just be at his place all day and
- 27:58Speaker 4: then I peeped Matlid was just making beats on anything.
- 28:05Speaker 4: It didn't even matter, and he didn't print out no stems.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you always hear he made I think bendana on
- 28:10Speaker 2: the iPad pad.
- 28:12Speaker 4: See, it's the user. It's not really the equipment, you
- 28:16Speaker 4: know what I mean, Like, it's really up to you.
- 28:19Speaker 4: Now there's laziness, it's it's certain trap beats. We're just
- 28:22Speaker 4: like bro that that was a stock. That was stock,
- 28:25Speaker 4: and you just put the same trap drum loop in
- 28:28Speaker 4: the same pack of loops I had. I just didn't
- 28:30Speaker 4: use it right. And now it's you know, on the charts,
- 28:34Speaker 4: it's on Billboard. And when you start rewarding that type
- 28:38Speaker 4: of lack of hard work, I ain't even gonna say
- 28:42Speaker 4: it's a lack of hard work or lack of trying
- 28:45Speaker 4: to identify what your sound is, then everybody's gonna follow it.
- 28:50Speaker 6: So if producer over here I.
- 28:53Speaker 4: Sed out changed everywhere, Lambo pulling out front of the
- 28:58Speaker 4: restaurants in LA But when you listen to his music,
- 29:01Speaker 4: you're like, damn, what does he even do? Then you
- 29:04Speaker 4: got a whole bunch of kids. It's like fuck with
- 29:07Speaker 4: Chuck Enguish and you know what I'm saying, day and
- 29:10Speaker 4: all of them niggas, fuck what they're doing. We're doing
- 29:12Speaker 4: this because I could get a lambo facts, and that's
- 29:15Speaker 4: really how it starts, and that's how you get outside
- 29:17Speaker 4: of the pocket of things actually mattering in them. Not
- 29:22Speaker 4: because it's it's hard for anybody to scrub two nickels together,
- 29:26Speaker 4: no matter if you got it or you not. Facts,
- 29:29Speaker 4: because I didn't have moments. I got it, looked at
- 29:31Speaker 4: it in my bank account, like shit, three months. I
- 29:33Speaker 4: don't know what the fuck I'm gonna do, right, because
- 29:35Speaker 4: that one check don't turn into two checks sometimes. So
- 29:38Speaker 4: you got these kids that's hungry, and they like, oh,
- 29:41Speaker 4: why wasn't in the streets. I'm in the studio. But
- 29:43Speaker 4: now the studio gonna make you more broke and give
- 29:47Speaker 4: you less of any sort of wins than just going
- 29:51Speaker 4: out there in middleman and something right right right.
- 29:53Speaker 1: So hey, we gotta wrap up this interview, another one
- 29:55Speaker 1: presented by Hard Dann.

- 31:37Speaker 7: Man Dog Mac.
- 31:40Speaker 5: Not that it's not a particular story, just like a
- 31:43Speaker 5: reflection on like type of dude like he was, because
- 31:48Speaker 5: you know, at this point, I mean from you know,
- 31:52Speaker 5: all of his close friends from like schoolboy Q and
- 31:54Speaker 5: you know Evince everybody who used to just be at
- 31:58Speaker 5: the crib, you know when they have at that uh,
- 32:00Speaker 5: I think it was like Laurel kayan studio crib and shit, man,
- 32:05Speaker 5: Mac was just he's just he just knew how to
- 32:08Speaker 5: be a friend too. Man, He just knew how to
- 32:10Speaker 5: be a friend. Like he had cheer you up. And
- 32:12Speaker 5: he was the one, you know with all the ship
- 32:15Speaker 5: to do. You know, he was the one that had
- 32:17Speaker 5: all the bills to pay. He just let everybody all
- 32:21Speaker 5: the stress, you know, and he just let everybody come
- 32:23Speaker 5: over his crib and fuck his house up and record
- 32:26Speaker 5: and you know, smoke weed and then record songs all day.
- 32:29Speaker 5: And you know, still if you down, he's still gonna
- 32:32Speaker 5: cheer you back up, you know what I'm saying.
- 32:34Speaker 7: When he actually the one like when he.
- 32:36Speaker 4: Moved into that crib that everybody saw where everybody was
- 32:39Speaker 4: pulling up. We was on tour with him, and then
- 32:41Speaker 4: when we got off tour, he bought that crib. And
- 32:44Speaker 4: then when we pulled back up because I lived, I
- 32:48Speaker 4: had just moved to La through and we all went
- 32:52Speaker 4: our own way after the tour was over, which turn
- 32:55Speaker 4: into just like you know, like the first week of
- 32:58Speaker 4: school with some news you just met, like with his
- 33:02Speaker 4: whole team and all that, and then us riding through
- 33:04Speaker 4: the buses and and when we did the tour, he
- 33:08Speaker 4: took care of us, cast us out per show and
- 33:10Speaker 4: made sure we had a bus. They didn't even we
- 33:12Speaker 4: didn't even have to know we was inconvenience, not one time.
- 33:16Speaker 4: And then when we got back off tour, just you
- 33:19Speaker 4: know the way I am. I'm I'm an at home
- 33:21Speaker 4: type of person. I know where it's supposed to be
- 33:23Speaker 4: be candles in all my dishes be washed. You're like, Chuck,
- 33:26Speaker 4: I need it like this, send me the bed bathroom
- 33:29Speaker 4: beyond with his credit card, Like just do what you
- 33:31Speaker 4: would do. So like the Buddha heeads and all that shit,
- 33:33Speaker 4: that's just me being like, hey, bro, put this ship
- 33:36Speaker 4: in here, so on.
- 33:36Speaker 6: Field, So you helped with the interior decord.
- 33:39Speaker 4: I grabbed it for him with it I ain't I
- 33:41Speaker 4: ain't buy it, but picked it out.
- 33:44Speaker 6: Yeah, I went to the big bathroom beyond up the street.
- 33:47Speaker 6: So all that like layout was.
- 33:49Speaker 4: Me being like, bro, you need a rug, you need
- 33:51Speaker 4: this get you know what I'm saying, Like, y'all gonna
- 33:53Speaker 4: blow this bitch down, so you're gonna need some candles.
- 33:56Speaker 6: You know what I mean.
- 33:57Speaker 4: Like, and I think really contributed to me just being like, man,
- 34:03Speaker 4: the little homies trust me. And it's like you don't
- 34:07Speaker 4: get that too much. I know people say that ship
- 34:08Speaker 4: all the time. You don't get people. You don't get
- 34:10Speaker 4: people like him that are doing this now.
- 34:12Speaker 5: You don't run into that, not with.
- 34:19Speaker 4: As much leverage as yet where he could put his
- 34:21Speaker 4: finger on something and and and you know that ship
- 34:24Speaker 4: ripple out. So it's like the whole network from when
- 34:29Speaker 4: like Earl and Vince and q us, you.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Know what I mean, Like.
- 34:36Speaker 4: It was just a beautiful time to be honest with
- 34:38Speaker 4: you because it's like over and over on the other side,
- 34:41Speaker 4: it's like we're doing that as crib. It's all this
- 34:44Speaker 4: connection that was happening, and he was just a big
- 34:47Speaker 4: part of it, you know, Like I told somebody else,
- 34:50Speaker 4: it's like a cognitive distance thing in reverse.
- 34:54Speaker 6: It's like I missed him so much.
- 34:56Speaker 4: I just don't be thinking about like like I'm not
- 34:58Speaker 4: going back and forth with the memory he's in my
- 35:00Speaker 4: head over that because I'm still pissed about it. Right,
- 35:02Speaker 4: That's one of them things I can't never get over.
- 35:04Speaker 4: Like I know people that have been shot, been in
- 35:07Speaker 4: car crashes, all sorts of shit, Like my brain can
- 35:10Speaker 4: make sense of it. I can't make sense of this one. Yeah,
- 35:13Speaker 4: that one, it don't make sense. It's like and no
- 35:15Speaker 4: offense to her, but it's like Timmy Levado just od
- 35:18Speaker 4: off a speedball and she got to live, right, So
- 35:21Speaker 4: it's like no offense to her.
- 35:22Speaker 6: But like that's how it was making me.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Feel, right, you know what I'm saying.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Like my man like to get a little high like
- 35:28Speaker 4: that Dad, he knew how to fucking kick it.
- 35:32Speaker 6: You know what I mean.
- 35:32Speaker 2: I've watched him do it right, you know what I'm saying.
- 35:35Speaker 4: So it's just this is one of them things you
- 35:39Speaker 4: want to get, that you want, you want that lick back.
- 35:41Speaker 2: A little bit. Yeah, I mean it's sad because it's like,
- 35:45Speaker 2: I feel like we started to kind of realize through
- 35:49Speaker 2: famous people losing their life that this shit ain't the
- 35:52Speaker 2: same like it was, you know, ten years ago.
- 35:54Speaker 6: No facts.
- 35:55Speaker 5: Yeah, we've seen that shift, man, and then you know,
- 35:59Speaker 5: shortly there, you know, Mac passed.
- 36:01Speaker 7: It was just.
- 36:02Speaker 5: Another wave of even younger kids, you know what I'm saying,
- 36:06Speaker 5: all due to like, you know, the same causes of
- 36:09Speaker 5: just different substances and the game changing with the substances.
- 36:13Speaker 7: Man, and the ship just kind of.
- 36:15Speaker 5: Hit a fever pitch where it's like everybody need to
- 36:18Speaker 5: take a take a pause real quick. We need to
- 36:20Speaker 5: see what the fuck is going on, doll, because everybody
- 36:23Speaker 5: just dropping and that was a wild time.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Uh. Who do you guys have in your personal Let's
- 36:30Speaker 2: just say, I don't want to say the because I
- 36:32Speaker 2: feel like y'all were before the blog era. You guys
- 36:34Speaker 2: are very active in a certain specific era of hip hop,
- 36:38Speaker 2: what's called the blog era. Who would you put as
- 36:42Speaker 2: your mount Rushmore the blog er each year?
- 36:45Speaker 7: Hmm? But us, Okay, Yeah, I definitely feel like we.
- 36:50Speaker 7: I just feel like we gotta be there. We gotta
- 36:53Speaker 7: be there.
- 36:54Speaker 2: I feel like you guys laid the foundation.
- 36:56Speaker 7: We gotta be in there.
- 36:57Speaker 6: We walked through the part that was a little bit
- 36:59Speaker 6: more difficult.
- 37:00Speaker 2: You guys did the framing of the house.
- 37:01Speaker 4: But yeah, and then we didn't sign. We didn't get up
- 37:04Speaker 4: we didn't get upstreamed.
- 37:06Speaker 6: We had to stay down here and still like keeping
- 37:09Speaker 6: hill on.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Yeah, some bullshit.
- 37:15Speaker 4: Remember thinking that. I remember being like this ship got engulfed.
- 37:19Speaker 4: You went to jail for some stupid ship. Like it's
- 37:22Speaker 4: almost like you didn't even have to do It's like that.
- 37:25Speaker 4: But look look what happened to you. So what I
- 37:28Speaker 4: say about like that, that that that particular you know,
- 37:35Speaker 4: we we had to keep We had just like everybody
- 37:37Speaker 4: upstairs kicking it. We downstairs making sure the refrigerator stay stopped.
- 37:42Speaker 4: But I would say us honestly bro us currency and
- 37:47Speaker 4: whiz because they made it. They made it work. The
- 37:50Speaker 4: business wise, he's he's pretty much like he's pretty much
- 37:57Speaker 4: like if you had to show what it looked like
- 38:01Speaker 4: on the financial tip of what the business model of
- 38:04Speaker 4: what we was doing and.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Just he hep. I just remember the quant like the
- 38:09Speaker 2: quantity of music Spinner was putting out.
- 38:12Speaker 4: But he tuned that. He tuned that because that's the
- 38:15Speaker 4: way his fan base.
- 38:17Speaker 2: I remember it was like every month they liked no
- 38:21Speaker 2: for sure.
- 38:22Speaker 6: Yeah, but there's certain people that's not that good.
- 38:25Speaker 4: So the more output you do, people start realizing certain
- 38:28Speaker 4: people who are not.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Certain people who certain people think is the greatest rapper
- 38:33Speaker 2: of all time for sure. Yeah.
- 38:35Speaker 4: So it's like you listen to any any random Spit album,
- 38:39Speaker 4: it's the beats is crazy.
- 38:41Speaker 2: I also think like him and that he kind of like,
- 38:45Speaker 2: at least for like a certain era kind of made
- 38:47Speaker 2: like I look at Covert Coop is like everybody's like, oh,
- 38:52Speaker 2: we can't do like a whole album with a producer
- 38:54Speaker 2: that sound type. I mean, we grew up with that,
- 38:57Speaker 2: but I mean for like, for that like of course
- 39:00Speaker 2: you know obviously gangst are clips clips of course, biggy,
- 39:05Speaker 2: but I just mean like, for like, you know, the
- 39:08Speaker 2: newer era is like you know it kind of I
- 39:10Speaker 2: feel like it was kind of the genesis of like
- 39:13Speaker 2: so much that we got after that, right.
- 39:15Speaker 4: And it's like we we we equate, you know, the
- 39:19Speaker 4: stuff and the blogger like it's this, it's in this
- 39:22Speaker 4: vacuum when there's so many things that happened before it
- 39:26Speaker 4: happened after. But it was like we were the first
- 39:29Speaker 4: ones in the not cder and we had CDs, you
- 39:33Speaker 4: know what I'm saying.
- 39:33Speaker 6: So people just seeing it like, oh, you put your
- 39:35Speaker 6: music out on the internet.
- 39:37Speaker 4: Only I can't even tell you how many times we
- 39:39Speaker 4: would hear you put it out on the internet.
- 39:42Speaker 6: Now it's not what the fuck else could you put it?
- 39:44Speaker 7: There is no other way to put out music.
- 39:46Speaker 4: You don't know.
- 39:47Speaker 6: About three, three week, four week lead times.
- 39:50Speaker 4: So you could get your ship mixing master because there
- 39:52Speaker 4: is no other way around.
- 39:54Speaker 6: You couldn't put.
- 39:54Speaker 4: It out on the CD that was being distributed or
- 39:58Speaker 4: bought up and packaged with out certain levels being in
- 40:03Speaker 4: what's that ship called parameters being met because it had to, right,
- 40:07Speaker 4: So we kind of like lowered or loosen those rules
- 40:12Speaker 4: by doing the same quality of music but putting it
- 40:15Speaker 4: so it's on a zip. So instead of doing it
- 40:18Speaker 4: the way you used to do it, when you bootlegged it.
- 40:20Speaker 4: Here's the butleg right here. So I think that we
- 40:23Speaker 4: took a lot of shrapnel coming through the door off
- 40:25Speaker 4: that because from the bands, but like from the old
- 40:28Speaker 4: Guard that was like, who the fuck are y'all ruining
- 40:31Speaker 4: this ship?
- 40:31Speaker 2: Well, by the time you guys put out Bake Sale,
- 40:33Speaker 2: I feel like it was like like shit had been
- 40:36Speaker 2: out for a minute. Yeah, it was like it was
- 40:38Speaker 2: I was like, oh, I could buy this now we
- 40:44Speaker 2: do that.
- 40:44Speaker 4: And then get caught in the crossfire and the wood
- 40:47Speaker 4: Chipper and now we had to take what was our
- 40:49Speaker 4: first album and split it up into three mixtapes. So
- 40:52Speaker 4: gun Fishing, tackle Box, when First Ride Bicycles, that was
- 40:56Speaker 4: all one album, right, Like like if we could have
- 40:59Speaker 4: hit them with that type of concentration, it's gonna tell me.
- 41:02Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 41:02Speaker 5: I think that's where the I think that's where like
- 41:06Speaker 5: the reverse of you know, being able to release music
- 41:10Speaker 5: freely comes into play. I think that's where the negative
- 41:13Speaker 5: came in because back then you would, uh, you would
- 41:18Speaker 5: only get certain coverage and only get certain looks if
- 41:20Speaker 5: it was an official album, you know what I mean.
- 41:22Speaker 5: Like even though those mixtapes and Ship there were all
- 41:25Speaker 5: original songs original beats. It wasn't no like rapping over
- 41:28Speaker 5: instrumentals or somebody else's beat like a mixtape in that way.
- 41:31Speaker 5: But to get the real like coverage for like you know,
- 41:34Speaker 5: your your magazines and your promos and all the Rolling
- 41:38Speaker 5: Stones and had to be official released.
- 41:42Speaker 2: You know, Big was here just came out and everybody
- 41:46Speaker 2: was like, is this the album of the year, But
- 41:47Speaker 2: is it an album? Mixtape? Yellow Truck it.
- 41:51Speaker 5: Was like it was a It was a complicated complicated times.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Definitely like before all that ship or sure. I mean,
- 41:59Speaker 2: like you said in MYCE like that's really like a
- 42:01Speaker 2: lot of motherfuckers just finding joints on MySpace.
- 42:04Speaker 5: So, you know, were our manager she told us recently,
- 42:07Speaker 5: she was like, yeah, I went back and looked. She said,
- 42:09Speaker 5: y'all have five million fans or follow whatever they called
- 42:13Speaker 5: them on MySpace. Yeah, And I was like, Yo, that's
- 42:16Speaker 5: crazy because like that's back when a social media platform
- 42:20Speaker 5: could literally like die, like for real like die Like nowadays,
- 42:23Speaker 5: Facebook it'll never die, Instagram never gonna die.
- 42:27Speaker 7: X it ain't never going to die. They're just two
- 42:29Speaker 7: huge of entities now, you know.
- 42:32Speaker 5: But MySpace, that's back when you could just die. You
- 42:34Speaker 5: lost all of that ship. You know, I think we
- 42:37Speaker 5: lost cod low key. Yeah, it's like that in that
- 42:40Speaker 5: transition to we just lost a lot of people just
- 42:44Speaker 5: they they just didn't know where to look for us,
- 42:47Speaker 5: you know, after MySpace kind of imploded, So that transition
- 42:50Speaker 5: was just it was a crazy time for that.
- 42:52Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, they just they just said the deserver
- 42:55Speaker 4: that it was hosted on, they just unplugged it.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Yeah, you funny. I had a bunch of pictures on
- 43:03Speaker 2: my Space that I was like, I guess that always
- 43:05Speaker 2: they'll always be there, you know, is gone.
- 43:08Speaker 6: I wish it was, man, it was some it was
- 43:09Speaker 6: some stuff.
- 43:10Speaker 7: It was some memories on there.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Man. Holy And then I remember like Justin Timberlake bought
- 43:14Speaker 2: my Space and.
- 43:16Speaker 6: I was like, maybe j T bring you back.
- 43:19Speaker 4: He tried and he wanted. He was going. He was
- 43:24Speaker 4: there for a lot of stuff we was doing. That's
- 43:26Speaker 4: what showed us that, like, Okay, this is different.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Yeah for sure, Justin shoutut to Justin. Man, you guys
- 43:35Speaker 2: do have to run to the show. But it is
- 43:36Speaker 2: the end of the year. Outside of your guys's body
- 43:40Speaker 2: of work. Who do y'all got this rap album of
- 43:43Speaker 2: the Year and uh.
- 43:46Speaker 7: Rap album of the Year. It's been so much ship
- 43:48Speaker 7: this year. I can.
- 43:52Speaker 2: Clips right is the obvious answer to the clips.
- 43:54Speaker 7: Of album of the Year.
- 44:00Speaker 5: I love, I like, I like, I liked it a lot,
- 44:02Speaker 5: but like this is this is what I'm trying to say.
- 44:05Speaker 5: Like there hasn't been just like the definitive five mic
- 44:10Speaker 5: album of the year for me personally. Man, what I
- 44:14Speaker 5: have experienced this year is some artists that have done
- 44:19Speaker 5: very very well this year with their just body of
- 44:22Speaker 5: work period throughout the year or the year prior and
- 44:25Speaker 5: all that one that I could say for show that's
- 44:29Speaker 5: just you know, been.
- 44:31Speaker 7: Keeping my attention all year.
- 44:33Speaker 5: It's been King Hendrix man think you Out and thank
- 44:37Speaker 5: you from Houston. Yeah, you know he'd be Babyface ray
- 44:40Speaker 5: and on them. But dog Man like that ship, his
- 44:43Speaker 5: new ship all throughout the year. That shit really got
- 44:46Speaker 5: me like back excited again the right ship and made
- 44:49Speaker 5: this ship you know interesting again. You know, I've just
- 44:54Speaker 5: been really impressed, you know, with just just a pen
- 44:57Speaker 5: and his approach.
- 44:57Speaker 7: To the ship. I'm you know, big man, what.
- 45:00Speaker 2: About you check?
- 45:05Speaker 4: I mean, my my taste doesn't just stop at uh
- 45:09Speaker 4: hip hop music as much as I'm you know, got
- 45:12Speaker 4: a seat at the table.
- 45:17Speaker 2: What I listened to over and over and over and
- 45:20Speaker 2: over again.
- 45:22Speaker 6: It's a dude named Harrison Harrison, like a new.
- 45:26Speaker 5: Jazz Yeah, yeah, yeah, Harrison Hard Harrison go crazy.
- 45:30Speaker 4: That's one of the first artists in a long time
- 45:34Speaker 4: where like it don't matter, it don't matter what song
- 45:38Speaker 4: comes on or off, what album is on. I'm like, yeah, jazz,
- 45:44Speaker 4: yeah that, And it's like a new It's like, it's
- 45:47Speaker 4: not jazz jazz, it's a new jazz bro Like, I
- 45:50Speaker 4: don't know how the funk he's doing it, but it's
- 45:53Speaker 4: like jazz fun jazz.
- 45:55Speaker 7: Like it's crazy, Mom.
- 46:00Speaker 4: Grol Genevieve, Like I listened to her album one time,
- 46:04Speaker 4: just doing We're friends too, Like you know what I mean.
- 46:07Speaker 4: I just I don't listen to it when it comes out.
- 46:09Speaker 4: Ain't no way I'm about to put an album on
- 46:11Speaker 4: at midnight. Now I'm back on the East Coast. Fuck that,
- 46:14Speaker 4: Like nine pm on a Friday is a terrible time
- 46:17Speaker 4: to drop an album. So I listened to it when
- 46:20Speaker 4: I get my time, and then I always try to
- 46:21Speaker 4: listen to stuff where it's practical. So if I'm matching
- 46:24Speaker 4: my socks after I just did laundry. Great time to
- 46:27Speaker 4: put on an album, you know what I mean, Like
- 46:30Speaker 4: you gotta hand washing dishes because you cook big ship
- 46:33Speaker 4: washing and then you got the got the dishes, You
- 46:35Speaker 4: got the dishes, the dicks you got to put in
- 46:36Speaker 4: the dishwasher, and then you got them last few.
- 46:38Speaker 6: You gotta hand wash that little cycle, that little forty minutes.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Yep.
- 46:42Speaker 6: It's a good time to listen to albums.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Either that or a podcast. Put the headphones in, Oh yeah.
- 46:47Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I or you know, going for a long
- 46:50Speaker 4: walk like the walk to the farmer's market.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Okay, some ship. Give me a hip hop album though
- 46:55Speaker 2: clips clips respect it and it grew on me.
- 47:01Speaker 6: Hmm, so like the first I mean I could be
- 47:04Speaker 6: honest with you.
- 47:05Speaker 4: You know, I grew up and you know, for that
- 47:07Speaker 4: was who I wanted to be like as as as
- 47:10Speaker 4: a teenager. So I like listen to his ship like
- 47:13Speaker 4: a little bit harder than I would like to, Like
- 47:16Speaker 4: I still want that, Like, why you not fucking.
- 47:18Speaker 6: Me up right now?
- 47:19Speaker 2: Bro? You know what I mean?
- 47:20Speaker 6: Like I don't even want to hear I don't want
- 47:22Speaker 6: to hear none of that progressive shit.
- 47:23Speaker 2: You I feel you Why do you not have album?
- 47:27Speaker 6: No, but it's like, why do you know how to
- 47:29Speaker 6: chop her out?
- 47:29Speaker 4: And now I'm like, oh, you actually did it right,
- 47:32Speaker 4: you you you crafted it to what they was about
- 47:35Speaker 4: to tell. And then when I saw the show live
- 47:37Speaker 4: in Detroit, I was like, oh, it makes the most sense.
- 47:40Speaker 2: Such a good show.
- 47:41Speaker 6: So it was like.
- 47:43Speaker 4: Ship, I like being in the world where they the
- 47:45Speaker 4: ones and we we you know we what I said.
- 47:48Speaker 2: I said, man, like this year is it very Like
- 47:51Speaker 2: I'm trying to put together my top ten albums just
- 47:53Speaker 2: for a video we're gonna do, and I'm like, man,
- 47:54Speaker 2: it's it's hard to pick ten.
- 47:56Speaker 6: Yeah, but see, that's what we gotta we gotta.
- 47:58Speaker 4: We gotta figure out how to celebrate things without scoring
- 48:03Speaker 4: them up. Like it's like it's a Parla's kind of
- 48:05Speaker 4: what I got. What I mean, that's what you got to.
- 48:07Speaker 2: You got to.
- 48:08Speaker 4: But I think that the mass amount of things that
- 48:11Speaker 4: are coming out, I think people need to get in
- 48:13Speaker 4: the habit of just listening more.
- 48:15Speaker 2: Yeah, because I'm like, Bodie James had a great year obviously,
- 48:19Speaker 2: Alfredo two is incredible, Bruiser Wolf is fucking dope, like.
- 48:26Speaker 5: Yeah, rappers, rap rappers, good man, Like it's been a
- 48:31Speaker 5: good year.
- 48:31Speaker 2: For rap album Just it's like, what a fucking right there?
- 48:37Speaker 6: Man?
- 48:37Speaker 4: Yeah, it makes sense though, you know what I mean,
- 48:40Speaker 4: Like you know l It's like two people I know
- 48:43Speaker 4: for a fact they're always practicing and they're always working
- 48:48Speaker 4: on It's Travis Barker. I never seen the man not
- 48:51Speaker 4: with a drum pad like we went on tour with,
- 48:53Speaker 4: like we got tons of songs anytime I walked up
- 48:57Speaker 4: on him or was in his comfortable space like that
- 48:59Speaker 4: is how he not even on the drum right, I
- 49:03Speaker 4: ain't never seen out in his spot, not in front
- 49:06Speaker 4: of the NPC unless we order food or we like
- 49:10Speaker 4: get going outside to make a run. So when it
- 49:12Speaker 4: comes down to, you know, work ethic, people get kind
- 49:16Speaker 4: of lost in that what that sauce is.
- 49:18Speaker 6: The ethic ain't just the grind.
- 49:20Speaker 4: It's like how long are you willing to sit with
- 49:23Speaker 4: your machine til you figured out how to do that?
- 49:25Speaker 2: Yep?
- 49:25Speaker 4: Like how did you stretch that samples until you made
- 49:28Speaker 4: it fit into time?
- 49:29Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 49:30Speaker 6: And that's what makes.
- 49:31Speaker 4: It original, That's what what what brings out in what
- 49:35Speaker 4: they say cream Rise.
- 49:36Speaker 6: To the Top.
- 49:37Speaker 2: I think he's figured out too, Like if you are
- 49:40Speaker 2: a dope producer like we'll say you or Havoc or whoever,
- 49:46Speaker 2: like Yo, man, like don't sit on beats like you know,
- 49:50Speaker 2: like he's revolutionized, like the vinyl shit too, like like
- 49:54Speaker 2: you know he was telling me how like you know,
- 49:56Speaker 2: he had to kind of convince evidence from dilated peoples
- 49:59Speaker 2: to be like, Yo, you got to go on one
- 50:00Speaker 2: of these runs where you do whole albums and right,
- 50:03Speaker 2: you know, I think if you're a producer like yo,
- 50:06Speaker 2: like lock in. You know what I'm saying, like shout
- 50:10Speaker 2: out to uh to al though, man, but look, the
- 50:12Speaker 2: new album is out. The shows tonight? Is this? How
- 50:15Speaker 2: many is this the last day on the tour? How
- 50:17Speaker 2: many dates on the tour?
- 50:18Speaker 5: We got Chicago, that's the last one of course in Chicago,
- 50:22Speaker 5: you know where it all started at, starting.
- 50:23Speaker 2: To Detroit and Crazy Crazy. You know what's funny is
- 50:28Speaker 2: like you guys being from those two different places. I'd
- 50:31Speaker 2: never been to the Midwest, and we would spend like
- 50:33Speaker 2: a week and a half in Detroit and I realized
- 50:36Speaker 2: I was like, oh Chicago. My boy was like, YO,
- 50:37Speaker 2: should drive down to Chicago, and hey, I'm like drive
- 50:40Speaker 2: Like I was like, oh.
- 50:40Speaker 4: This shit is not that fuck around the corner had
- 50:43Speaker 4: fucking Canada, like you could throw a football fucking hit Canada.
- 50:46Speaker 7: Yeah, you got that, that's right there.
- 50:49Speaker 4: Yeah for sure. You know that's how we came up
- 50:52Speaker 4: as kids. You'd be nineteen and go across being.
- 50:55Speaker 2: An influential Detroit Jesus, the Detroit ship right now is
- 50:58Speaker 2: influencing everybody, like it's fucking crazy Detroit.
- 51:01Speaker 4: Yeah, and the Pistons is good, thank god, right, the
- 51:05Speaker 4: Lion is good, the Tigers is good.
- 51:07Speaker 6: We're in a good spot.
- 51:09Speaker 2: And the lines are okay. The Bears are good.
- 51:11Speaker 7: Bears good. We've been good in a long time, y'all.
- 51:16Speaker 4: Y'all have y'all got the last And as a sportsman,
- 51:19Speaker 4: if you're a Bears fan, the next three games are
- 51:22Speaker 4: the hardest out of anybody that's in the NFL.
- 51:25Speaker 2: The Lions are on the outside looking in right now.
- 51:27Speaker 4: We're gonna stump them up hole And like the first
- 51:29Speaker 4: time I'm watching it, I know who Ben Johnson is,
- 51:32Speaker 4: y'all don't.
- 51:33Speaker 2: I definitely don't believe in Williams, but he and y'all
- 51:38Speaker 2: got what's the little white boy's name?
- 51:39Speaker 7: Giddy Josh?
- 51:41Speaker 6: Josh, Josh, sweet Josh.
- 51:43Speaker 5: Now the Bulls that's really my team. Like the Bears,
- 51:46Speaker 5: they've hurt.
- 51:47Speaker 2: Me so much.
- 51:48Speaker 5: We're out my childhood that I kind of hated them
- 51:50Speaker 5: for a long time. But the Bulls, I'll be riding
- 51:52Speaker 5: with them.
- 51:53Speaker 4: Kobe, Kobe White, uh Man.
- 51:56Speaker 7: I don't know what the hell happened this year.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Trade them last year, Bro, that's it.
- 52:00Speaker 7: Sometimes got a little hurt and came back a little different.
- 52:03Speaker 4: You know, you gotta get a haircut. You gotta hit
- 52:06Speaker 4: a haircut that's gonna help his game.
- 52:08Speaker 2: You can't.
