- 0:48Don Armstrong: Judd Holt is a good question.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Well, I do need to make one correction.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: It's Peter.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Judd, I'm sorry, that is the handsome one.
- 0:56Don Armstrong: I'm sorry, I thought that I wasn't going to say anything.
- 1:02Don Armstrong: So um I'm sorry, I didn't know.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: That's okay.
- 1:06Don Armstrong: You know, I see you guys probably once every five, ten years.
- 1:10Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 1:11Don Armstrong: Sorry.
- 1:11Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 1:12Don Armstrong: And in his age, five or ten years is a lifetime.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: This is probably the last one, right?
- 1:17Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 1:18Don Armstrong: I got I got one foot in the grave right now.
- 1:21Don Armstrong: Oh, look, he's got his father's sense of humor.
- 1:23Don Armstrong: That's great.
- 1:25Don Armstrong: Stay the rest of the grave.
- 1:27Jeff Dziekan: Sit right there.
- 1:28Don Armstrong: That was good.
- 1:29Don Armstrong: It was great.
- 1:30Don Armstrong: It was good.
- 1:32Don Armstrong: Well, it doesn't make any difference who it is.
- 1:34Don Armstrong: The car is true.
- 1:35Don Armstrong: This is not about you, it's about the car.
- 1:37Don Armstrong: That's right.
- 1:37Jeff Dziekan: So tell me, Larry.
- 1:42Don Armstrong: You you haven't had this much ribbing in quite some time.
- 1:46Don Armstrong: And I'm sorry.
- 1:46Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 1:47Don Armstrong: I started it and I woke up.
- 1:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:49Don Armstrong: Sorry.
- 1:50Don Armstrong: So um is this one of many cars in your collection?
- 1:54Don Armstrong: Uh it is, yes.
- 1:56Don Armstrong: Because we haven't talked about the other cars in your collection.
- 2:00Don Armstrong: Did were you Don't you?
- 2:01Don Armstrong: Are you the brother that's because this is the best one?
- 2:04Don Armstrong: Is it?
- 2:05Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 2:05Don Armstrong: There you go.
- 2:06Don Armstrong: And so what happens when you press the accelerator to the floor in that one?
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Uh I mean it's, you know, the neighbors are like, hey, take it easy.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: So kids apply.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, come on, man.
- 2:19Don Armstrong: So do we have do we have a picture of uh the It's on the screen?
- 2:23Don Armstrong: Well, partially.
- 2:24Don Armstrong: It's in the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
- 2:26Don Armstrong: Oh, okay.
- 2:27Don Armstrong: And it is an IZA.
- 2:29Don Armstrong: It is.
- 2:29Don Armstrong: Who who originally built the IZA?
- 2:32Don Armstrong: Was it BMW?
- 2:34Don Armstrong: That's what it's badged as.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: So I hope so.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: I can found that.
- 2:38Don Armstrong: You know, I never knew that because to me it was always an IZA.
- 2:41Don Armstrong: Got it.
- 2:42Don Armstrong: BMW?
- 2:43Don Armstrong: Because you think of BMW, you think of a high performance German car, right?
- 2:47Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 2:47Don Armstrong: Or a German car.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: What do you mean, think of?
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: We're staring at the time.
- 2:50Don Armstrong: Well, you know, well, it depends on your definition of that, because this is a car where the entire front end opens up.
- 2:59Don Armstrong: Doesn't have doors.
- 3:00Don Armstrong: That's the door, the door, the one and only door.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: The one and only door.
- 3:04Don Armstrong: Yes, I have a picture of uh my daughter in one of those.
- 3:07Don Armstrong: Uh she came to visit, and uh somebody was selling one at the Meekham auction here in town.
- 3:13Don Armstrong: The door was open.
- 3:14Don Armstrong: I said, get in, let me take a picture.
- 3:16Don Armstrong: And she says, Dad, I can't believe this is a real car.
- 3:18Don Armstrong: Oh yeah.
- 3:20Don Armstrong: Um, I remember that my first vision of one.
- 3:23Don Armstrong: I'm not going to tell you what year it was, but it was a long time ago.
- 3:26Don Armstrong: And I'm going, that's really weird, but I kind of like it.
- 3:30Don Armstrong: There's something, what is what is attractive about that car to a car guy?
- 3:35Don Armstrong: Because it shouldn't be.
- 3:36Don Armstrong: It shouldn't be attractive because it's a non-traditional anything.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's definitely non-traditional.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Uh I I think it's like it's a very sophisticated moped.
- 3:45SPEAKER_04: Well, I I think it's the the wicker basket on the back for a picnic.
- 3:49SPEAKER_04: Well, it is and it is balanced.
- 3:50SPEAKER_04: That is balance picnics.
- 3:52Don Armstrong: Well, I don't know, but let's but let's get back to the car itself because the steering wheel is actually mounted to the door.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: To the door, it folds away.
- 4:00Don Armstrong: Yeah, and so an engineer designed a yoke kind of system.
- 4:05Don Armstrong: So when you shut the door, all of that all lines up with the steering wheel once the door is shut.
- 4:11Don Armstrong: Right.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, genius.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: There's definitely a lot of engineering that went into it.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, to make that happen.
- 4:18Don Armstrong: And it is a rear engine and well rear side.
- 4:24Don Armstrong: Rear side.
- 4:26Don Armstrong: Um what kind of a motor has it got in it?
- 4:30Don Armstrong: Four-cylinder?
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Uh no.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: One cylinder.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: A one-cylinder.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: It's called a bing.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: It's a one-cylinder, and I'm assuming the name came from the sound it makes.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: It does make that weird sound.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's just uh just a little one-cylinder.
- 4:47Don Armstrong: So it's not much bigger than a Briggs and Stratton lawnmower motor.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Not that, but they those probably have more horsepower.
- 4:54Don Armstrong: Really?
- 4:55Don Armstrong: Um, do you know how much horsepower?
- 4:57Don Armstrong: What was it advertised for?
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: I don't think it's a full horse.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I think it's maybe more in the donkey class.
- 5:02SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:04SPEAKER_04: So he can really haul donkey.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: I've got to say there you go.
- 5:09Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 5:09Don Armstrong: It's a real jackass of a car, I'm telling you.
- 5:12Don Armstrong: I I like it.
- 5:14Don Armstrong: So what possessed you to buy it?
- 5:17Don Armstrong: Uh just to pick up chicks.
- 5:21Jeff Dziekan: The ones at the grocery, the ones at the farm to market place.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, anywhere, really look at it.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, sleek lines, you know, aerodynamic, at least if it's in the middle.
- 5:31SPEAKER_03: You can just swing it open and say, hey, baby.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's just, you know, they have to sit right next to you.
- 5:36Don Armstrong: I would imagine that anywhere anywhere that you went, anywhere that you went, people go, Wow, that's a really cool car.
- 5:45Don Armstrong: It is.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: It's an eye catcher, and it's all ages, obviously, because of its age, but uh, yeah, and it's you know, it's still unique.
- 5:54Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 5:55Don Armstrong: So uh we have it on our website and we have it on our Facebook page.
- 6:00Don Armstrong: It's the poster uh of this particular show.
- 6:03Don Armstrong: The event, yeah.
- 6:04Don Armstrong: And um it it it's just fantastic.
- 6:07Don Armstrong: Uh and uh the wicker basket on the back is an ad.
- 6:10Don Armstrong: Did they actually make a real rack for for like a luggage?
- 6:18Don Armstrong: Because it has no trunk.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: That is, it has no trunk, just the just the rear trail.
- 6:24Don Armstrong: Because remember, you know, us Corvette guys, somebody somebody somewhere along the engineering department like a Chevrolet put a rug luggage rack on a Corvette.
- 6:34Don Armstrong: No, no, no.
- 6:36Don Armstrong: But I can't tell you how many I've seen.
- 6:38Don Armstrong: And when you see them, they're rare.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:41Don Armstrong: And most of the people have taken them off if it ever had.
- 6:44Jeff Dziekan: I think behind us, there might be a one.
- 6:45Jeff Dziekan: There's a couple of vets behind us, but so do you have any of those?
- 6:49Don Armstrong: The Corvettes?
- 6:50Don Armstrong: No.
- 6:51Don Armstrong: No.
- 6:51Don Armstrong: What what other cars do you have in your collection?
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Uh it's an eclectic mix.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Um I've got some some classics.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Uh I've got a uh you've seen the 52 Chev.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: The five window.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: It's got uh I've got a 67 uh Mustang.
- 7:10Jeff Dziekan: Nice.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Uh I have a 77 Bronco.
- 7:14Jeff Dziekan: Wonderful.
- 7:15Jeff Dziekan: Wow.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: A 76 FJ, Toyota FJ.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 7:19Jeff Dziekan: Oh yeah.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Uh I have uh you drive them.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: I was gonna ask, yeah.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: I mean I drive them, they're all drivable.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: They're all you know, you know, practically you know, in in as new condition, um, but I don't drive them all very often.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: 72 uh Chevy pickup, uh 85 laser, uh I have a 52 uh VW transporter too.
- 7:44SPEAKER_05: Nice.
- 7:45SPEAKER_05: The pickup I like your taste.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: I like your taste.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but it's it's things that you know are all done correctly.
- 7:53Don Armstrong: You have a favorite today.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I it it it changes.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Um I was just thinking about that.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Uh I just restored, I'll tell you an interesting story, is I I I found about three years ago the original 911 Porsche.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: It's a 2001 that I had bought, ordered it from the factory, took nine months to build back then.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Uh took delivery of it about two weeks before I got married.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: And uh sold it probably a year and a half after I got it.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: I wanted a convertible, uh, but came across it on an online auction three years ago.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: So I went, oh that's just like when I had, and I started doing a little bit of research.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: It turns out it was.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: Where was it?
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was in the Midwest, uh in in like Idaho, and it only has 37,000 miles on it.
- 8:41SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: And so I'm thinking, okay, and they're claiming it's practically new.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: And so my wife, uh, we we actually drove away from our wedding in it.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: And so there's pictures uh from our wedding of us in her wedding dress getting in a car.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: So of course then I had her budget uh to buy the car.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: So I bought it in Oxford and I recently uh I sent it off to Chicago to a specialist group up there and had the entire completely redone back to uh factories new.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: With with still it's only 37,000 miles.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: So that's been my and I just got it back uh last fall.
- 9:14SPEAKER_05: So what was the period of time away from our?
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Uh so it was I bought it in 2001 and just bought it back in 2023.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: So and there was only two years, yeah.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there was only uh two other owners between me and uh and the original title.
- 9:29Don Armstrong: Other people like you saw what you saw in it originally and then wanted to keep it that way.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: I guess.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Well it turns out they didn't take that good care of it, but uh maybe.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: But they didn't they didn't modify it, they drove it.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: They they drove it.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: They drove it, and I think there was some maybe some body work that had been done to it.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: But uh but it's okay.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: It's not a car on everyone.
- 9:49Don Armstrong: So did you ever see Greg Enders Black Corvette?
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Uh probably.
- 9:53Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 9:56Don Armstrong: Um back in 2016, 17.
- 10:04Don Armstrong: It had 16,000 miles on it, and now it's got 36,000 miles on it.
- 10:11Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 10:12Don Armstrong: And um it's it's immaculate.
- 10:14Don Armstrong: The paint's been massaged on it, it's all original, but it's been massaged on it a lot.
- 10:20Don Armstrong: And so um it's it's my baby.
- 10:23Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 10:24Don Armstrong: It's kind of what you're talking about, I think, kind of thing.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was just uh, you know, it was an interesting just to find it and have it be in you know one piece and not have a hundred and fifty thousand.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: It's got a settle value with you and your wife.
- 10:35SPEAKER_03: That that makes the world a lot better.
- 10:37Don Armstrong: Now, do you go to the uh Houston Mico auction?
- 10:39Don Armstrong: I do.
- 10:40Don Armstrong: It's coming up.
- 10:41Don Armstrong: Do you uh you buy things there?
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: I I have, I've I've bought quite a few things there, but it's you know, I certainly don't mind skipping it as far as buying something.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: It has to be something right, being hot right.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: So I bid on stuff and I'm happy.
- 10:55Jeff Dziekan: But are you currently looking for something new to add or no?
- 10:58Jeff Dziekan: Or are you always in that frame?
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: There no, I uh no, no, but I mean if there's something comes up and it's like I'll kick myself.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: That's stay inside.
- 11:07unknown: Of course he's always looking for.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: I'll kick myself for your frame now if I don't know.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Well he's a liar, you're always looking.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: So it's uh I'm I'm constantly watching.
- 11:16Jeff Dziekan: And if something comes up an interested person.
- 11:18Jeff Dziekan: Yes.
- 11:19Jeff Dziekan: Is there something in your dad's collection that you want?
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Is he listening?
- 11:24Jeff Dziekan: Probably not.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: Um, I I I honestly I don't know what his current collection is at.
- 11:28Don Armstrong: I well, but none of us do.
- 11:30Don Armstrong: It's a big mystery because it's always changing.
- 11:33Don Armstrong: And and it's oh, I gotta sell something because I don't have any more hanger space.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: I'm sure whatever I want, he's just recently sold.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: That's the way it always works.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: And I probably would have bought it for more than he sold it, you know, but he just didn't ask.
- 11:47Jeff Dziekan: You're not you're not uh first refusal.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: He should be ready.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: You would think it would be just the path of least resistance.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: He'd run it by the family.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Anybody want this?
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: I'm getting ready to sell it.
- 11:56Don Armstrong: I'd let it go for the yeah, there's too many, there's too many moving parts in all of this all the time, and you know exactly what I'm talking about.
- 12:06Don Armstrong: Right.
- 12:06Don Armstrong: Yeah, right.
- 12:07Don Armstrong: Uh well, you know, it's great to see you, and thanks for bringing the IZA.
- 12:12Don Armstrong: What year is it, by the way?
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: 59.
- 12:15Don Armstrong: 59.
- 12:17Don Armstrong: Did they only build that one body style?
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: So there was, I know there was a different model series.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: I think there was a 200, a 300, and then they did a an actual uh, I think a two-door.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: It was it was a four-seater, it was like a 600.
- 12:31SPEAKER_05: Why?
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: I mean probably didn't sell.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: When you've you know when you've got that level of performance into picking up chicks, that's why they just didn't.
- 12:45Don Armstrong: Does the wife say I am not getting in that thing?
- 12:48Don Armstrong: Or does she does she ever ride with you?
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Mostly it's just difficult to get two people into it.
- 12:51Don Armstrong: Well, there's that.
- 12:52Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 12:52Don Armstrong: Yeah, it it'll bar barely squeeze too.
- 12:54Don Armstrong: Kitting a men's high canonic.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, if it's if it's really dark and no one's out, she'll she'll ride with me in it.
- 13:00SPEAKER_04: So is it actually four wheels or three?
- 13:04SPEAKER_04: It is four.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, a lot of people think the back two, for whatever reason, are just closer together.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: I don't know what the thought process was.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: Well, it's a it's a solid, it's a solid Apple drive.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: So I don't know.
- 13:17Jeff Dziekan: It's like a half shaft type.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: I it literally looks like a golf cart.
- 13:22Jeff Dziekan: Oh wow.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Little, you know, not that those are a transmission, but yeah, a little transaction kind of thing.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: How fast will the joke is I've had it up to 70, but the trailer started to wobble a little, so it's good, yeah.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: But I've I've had it up to 45 driving.
- 13:40Don Armstrong: That's probably all she'll go.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: I ran out of road, actually.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Um, I just I don't take it on you know a lot of big roads.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 13:48Jeff Dziekan: So it was at the end of the quarter and it was the drop off.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I didn't want to have to pull the chute, so uh I had to get off the brakes.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's super low maintenance.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, all you have to do is clean the bugs off the back window.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: No, that one.
- 14:05Don Armstrong: Yeah, well, does it actually have the looks running into it?
- 14:08Don Armstrong: Does it actually you'll get that one later?
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: You can explain it to me later.
- 14:13Don Armstrong: Does it actually does it actually have room for a quart of oil in it?
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: Uh I bet it doesn't take a full quartz.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: No, but it not doesn't either.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: Not a one.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: Check it very often.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: Well, I check under it, that's how I know if it's not leaking.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Does it leak?
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, as long as it's leaking, I know I'm good.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: How many gallons are we?
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: When there's no leaking, I go, I must need oil.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: I gotta put some in it.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:35Jeff Dziekan: How big is it, gas tank?
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: Uh I bet it is less than two gallons.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: No room for what they think.
- 14:46Jeff Dziekan: What can you imagine?
- 14:48Jeff Dziekan: We got trouble.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: There's a bilge pump.
- 14:53unknown: Yeah.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: They asked me if the wiper actually was electric.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: I said, oh yeah, it's electric, but it goes, you know, about that fast.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: So I'm not sure.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: Is it really electric?
- 15:04Don Armstrong: Because usually vacuum operated.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: I don't know that I would want to be stuck in the thing.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: It's not very watertight.
- 15:17Don Armstrong: I'm thinking tub and LS in it.
- 15:18Don Armstrong: So what are you bringing to the next tailpipes and tacos?
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's a good question.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: Um if it's if it's not something new, what is it?
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: What are these quarterly now?
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: Uh how much time do we have?
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Something up like six months or so.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: I think the FJ.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: I think it's time to bring the FJ back out.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: I think you're right.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: Whatever the lenders is what he's saying.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: Whatever's not repo.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: Um, whatever will start, um whichever battery is the most charged.
- 15:50Don Armstrong: So you don't have somebody like a George taking care of your collection.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: Uh I do not.
- 15:56Don Armstrong: What is your driver?
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: Uh I have a uh a Ford F-150 uh Raptor.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Gotcha.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: It's kind of my data.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: It's a pretty cool truck, yeah.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was uh it was a it's a Hennessy.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: Oh a Hennessy?
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but it was it's a 21, so it's there early.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: Well, but it was there early.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: Now they're doing a thousand work.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: I do, I know John very well.
- 16:18Don Armstrong: And um is his business still thriving out there?
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: I think more than ever.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: I believe his son-in-law is the one that's that's taking the reins.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: So is the drag strip right?
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, they're selling more cars and in what's that?
- 16:40Don Armstrong: Is the drag strip still there?
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: No, I think he sold that.
- 16:44Don Armstrong: But it's still there.
- 16:45Don Armstrong: I don't think so.
- 16:45Don Armstrong: No?
- 16:46Don Armstrong: They ripped up the drag strip.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: I believe so.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: You can catch me lying on that.
- 16:52Jeff Dziekan: We'll have to check, we'll look into that.
- 16:53Jeff Dziekan: We'll get our crack staff out of the street.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: And they're building a new a new facility just behind that existing property.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: It's kind of the state of the art uh that is well I think it's I think it's really for the for the F5, for the manufacturer high-end sports car, their performance cars.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: Super cars, I guess.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Supercar, hypercar, right.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: The Venom, what is it, F5 Venom, I think is that sounds right.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: And so I think they're kind of building a home for that.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Because that's that's still got a lot of traction.
- 17:24Don Armstrong: You know, that was the that was the drag strip that nobody ever heard of.
- 17:27Don Armstrong: And it sat out there forever, nobody ever promoted it.
- 17:30Don Armstrong: Nothing.
- 17:31Don Armstrong: And it what a great location in my mind, right there on the Katie Freeway, but nope.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: You know, he started at West Houston Airport.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: I did not know that.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: He had a hanger over there.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was a long time building the original Viking.
- 17:46Jeff Dziekan: That was a long time ago, yeah.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: Now you're making me old.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Um, and uh he used to he used to pay to do passes on the runway to test the cars.
- 17:55Don Armstrong: To that jerk that owns it.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: Uh uh, no comment.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: Woody.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, you know, we we land a helicopter out there.
- 18:06Don Armstrong: He hates helicopters.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: He doesn't like helicopters.
- 18:08Don Armstrong: No, he hates helicopters.
- 18:10Don Armstrong: And he gets all bent out of shape.
- 18:12Don Armstrong: And you never know what kind of mood he's gonna be in when you run into him out there.
- 18:16Don Armstrong: Oh, hey, how you doing?
- 18:18Don Armstrong: All right.
- 18:21Don Armstrong: Anyway, um when I was working for your dad, I had a little run-in on behalf of her father.
- 18:28Don Armstrong: I've heard stories.
- 18:29Don Armstrong: Yes.
- 18:31Don Armstrong: Anyway, uh Peter, it's great to see you.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 18:36Don Armstrong: Yeah, I thought you wrote it on real big.
- 18:39Jeff Dziekan: He spelled it right, too.
- 18:41Don Armstrong: Yeah, that but um so well, I guess we'll see you next time.
- 18:46Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 18:47Don Armstrong: Hope so.
- 18:47Don Armstrong: I would I would with FJ.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: I'll bring the FJ out.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: It's it's it's well sorted.
- 18:53Don Armstrong: It's I know somebody that had one, sold it, and regrets it to this day.
- 18:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, a guy across the street from me, he did he sold it, and I was griping at him because he didn't take it's a forerunner.
- 19:03SPEAKER_04: I know, but it's just it's very unique.
- 19:05SPEAKER_04: And and he's never regrets it.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: Well, not mine is uh is a 76.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: Even better.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: It but it it looks you know factory new, except for it's got every accessory possibly.
- 19:19Jeff Dziekan: If you need to bring more out, Mike can drive a couple over for you.
- 19:21Jeff Dziekan: Okay, don't let Mike drive.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, do you guys uh long drive?
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: It'd be something with air conditioning.
- 19:29Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, and a and a smooth road.
- 19:33Don Armstrong: There's that from now on.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, it's maybe maybe ABS.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: I have I have locked the brakes up on the FJ a couple of times.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: Oh boy.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: That's Peter, it's great to talk to you.

- 21:35Don Armstrong: Inwheeltime.com has a list, and we know you love lists.
- 21:39Don Armstrong: For all these years, why do you have to have the minivan look like a traditional minivan?
- 21:45Don Armstrong: You don't, and they've proved it in this one.
- 21:47Don Armstrong: This vehicle was introduced in 2022.
- 21:50Don Armstrong: I think this is the first one that I've had.
- 21:52Don Armstrong: Uh, exterior features include a minivan that looks like an SUV, sliding passenger doors.
- 21:58Don Armstrong: Love it.
- 21:58Don Armstrong: Upright attractive.
- 22:00Don Armstrong: Grill and headlight.
- 22:04Don Armstrong: What I liked about it, overall it gets high marks in design and execution.
- 22:10Don Armstrong: What could use improvement?
- 22:11Don Armstrong: Well, they could get rid of those funky wheels.
- 22:14Don Armstrong: I said that.
- 22:15Don Armstrong: Sorry.
- 22:16Don Armstrong: Interior highlights, mini van roominess with second row captain's chairs.
- 22:21Don Armstrong: I would imagine that you could probably get a bench back there, but why?
- 22:25Don Armstrong: Unless you've got an uh entire school that you're hauling around.
- 22:30Don Armstrong: Um fold in the floor, third row seating.
- 22:36Don Armstrong: That was good.
- 22:36Don Armstrong: That was handy.
- 22:38Don Armstrong: It's got a dial shifter located on the center console.
- 22:42Don Armstrong: I love those.
- 22:43Don Armstrong: Uh ten-foot wide dual-purpose screen inside up on the dash.
- 22:49Don Armstrong: Exaggerating, obviously, but uh the thing goes the whole length of the of the dash.
- 22:55Don Armstrong: Um cargo room, massive, especially with the seats down.
- 22:58Don Armstrong: What I liked, the Swiss Army knife mindset in this vehicle.
- 23:03Don Armstrong: We could use improvement again, second row bench option.
- 23:07Don Armstrong: Um you could haul the entire soccer team with that.
- 23:11Don Armstrong: But here's the interesting thing it has a 1.6 liter gasoline turbo hybrid power plant.
- 23:21Don Armstrong: 242 horsepower, which is a lot.
- 23:24Don Armstrong: Uh 271 pound feet of torque.
- 23:27Don Armstrong: It had plenty of pocket speed, automatic transmission, but it is front-wheel drive only.
- 23:33Don Armstrong: Mileage, 34 city, 31 highway for combined to 32, 30.6 miles per gallon over 420 miles.
- 23:41Don Armstrong: Ain't bad, McGee.
- 23:43Don Armstrong: What I liked, the mileage with the horsepower.
- 23:47Don Armstrong: We could use improvement, nothing.
- 23:49Don Armstrong: Riding handling, smooth.
- 23:53Don Armstrong: What else can I say?
- 23:54Don Armstrong: It handles it handles great.
- 23:57Don Armstrong: Okay, so here there's a pricing.
- 23:59Don Armstrong: Base trim price,$53,099.
- 24:05Don Armstrong: Price as tested with all the acutram,$57,865.
- 24:11Don Armstrong: It's not bad.
- 24:12Don Armstrong: The base price on this vehicle.
- 24:19Don Armstrong: Yeah, there you go.
- 24:21Don Armstrong: Like you.
- 24:22Don Armstrong: Good for you.
- 24:23Don Armstrong: Uh base model price,$41,390.
- 24:28Jeff Dziekan: That's within range.
- 24:29Don Armstrong: That's entry level.
- 24:30Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 24:30Don Armstrong: $41,000.
- 24:31Don Armstrong: I'm all into that.
- 24:33Don Armstrong: So uh competitors at that entry level price include, but not limited, the Chrysler Pacifica starts at$44,445.
- 24:41Don Armstrong: The Honda Iodysy starts at$42,795.
- 24:46Don Armstrong: Siena starts at$40,000.
- 24:49Don Armstrong: So you can see kind of why these things are so popular because let's face it, I mean, the average price of a vehicle these days,$50, that falls well below it,$10,000 below it.
- 25:02Don Armstrong: I really do like this vehicle.
- 25:04Don Armstrong: And if you're in the market for a minivan slash SUV, uh, I would definitely go down to your Kia dealer and take a look at it.
- 25:13Don Armstrong: Get a test drive.
- 25:14Don Armstrong: I think that you'll really be impressed.
- 25:17Don Armstrong: Good stuff.
- 25:18Don Armstrong: It is.
- 25:19Don Armstrong: Um Mars, you're sitting down there awful quiet, which we're saying, I'm taking notes.
- 25:25Jeff Dziekan: He's ciphering.
- 25:26Jeff Dziekan: Are you?
- 25:26Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:27Jeff Dziekan: I think he started his taxes, is what he's doing.
- 25:29Jeff Dziekan: Well, I'm trying to finish him.
- 25:30Jeff Dziekan: The 15th is coming up pretty quick.
