- 0:00Speaker 1: Is it going.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Hey, everybody, just figured i'd send a quick check.
- 0:06Speaker 3: This is Paul Ferguson. Tragically, his brother Timothy passed away
- 0:10just prior to this live stream.
- 0:12Speaker 2: For those of you who aren't aware, my little brother
- 0:17has passed away and.
- 0:21Speaker 4: It's a lot to.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Deal with, but we're fine.
- 0:25Speaker 3: With such devastating news. Viewers quickly showed him support during
- 0:29this terrible time. But unbeknownst to Paul's fans, this would
- 0:33be his last live stream ever because, as it turns out,
- 0:37Paul himself was behind the death of his younger brother.
- 0:47On the sixth of July twenty twenty two, at six
- 0:50point thirty seven pm, police were called to assist with
- 0:53a medical emergency just outside of Grand Rapids in Michigan.
- 0:57The caller, Shonda vander Ark, mother of Paul and Timothy,
- 1:00had told paramedics that Timothy wasn't breathing. Just seven minutes
- 1:04after arriving on the scene, Timothy was pronounced. Officers had
- 1:08never seen anything like it. Timothy was malnourished, bruised, and hypothermic.
- 1:13There were bones protruding from his skin, and despite being
- 1:17five foot eight, he weighed just sixty nine pounds. Most
- 1:21concerning it was where they actually found Timothy. He was
- 1:25lying in a small closet that reeked of urine feces.
- 1:29Inside was a blue tarp and an Amazon box, and
- 1:33just outside were a pair of ankle shackles. There were
- 1:36all some multiple cameras around the room and an alarm
- 1:39on the door he was found in. Undoubtedly, something was
- 1:43incredibly wrong, but police hadn't even scratched the surface of
- 1:47just how horrible this case would turn out to be.
- 1:50So to maybe shed a little light on what just
- 1:52happened here, Officer Sean Stepanitch decides to talk to his
- 1:56seemingly grieving mother, Shonda.
- 1:59Speaker 5: Le ma'am a monster stuff And right now we got
- 2:03some people coming over to talk to you.
- 2:05Speaker 6: Okay, he's been worrying, really loose.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Clothes, Lelas. He's really he's really skinny. And I didn't
- 2:13notice till this morning.
- 2:14Speaker 7: Because he wouldn't like I asked him if he's okay,
- 2:16and he would not answer me, Like he's fifteen, he's been.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yeah, like.
- 2:24Speaker 6: I know how bad he was.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Oh my god, he did this.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Fucking was struggle with Jeni research. I thought he did this.
- 2:35I don't know, it's I can wake.
- 2:36Speaker 7: In January for almost three weeks, and then he said
- 2:39he ate some.
- 2:41Speaker 4: He ate something last night. I didn't remember what it was.
- 2:44Speaker 3: I'm sorry. This is where police realized that Shonda's emotions
- 2:50might all be an act, and as they would uncover
- 2:53more evidence in the house and talk to her son Paul,
- 2:57these claims would slowly fall apart. So as the officer
- 3:01listens to her side of the story, he'll be looking
- 3:03for anything to latch onto that they can use against
- 3:06them later to determine the truth.
- 3:08Speaker 6: I had no idea I would have taken him in
- 3:12or something thanks to the last time he saw was
- 3:14five thirty this morning.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Did he say anything.
- 3:17Speaker 6: He had fallen out of bead?
- 3:19Speaker 1: Yeah? Five thirty?
- 3:20Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 3:20Speaker 4: You sure it wasn't earlier.
- 3:23Speaker 7: I mean it's possible. I thought it was five thirty,
- 3:25but I wasn't super awake. I heard it sunk, and
- 3:28I came down and he's kind of laying on the side,
- 3:30kind of like, what the heck? Yeah, every seldie, that's
- 3:38all right.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Timothy was pronounced dead at six forty four am that morning,
- 3:44just an hour after Shonda claimed she last talked to him.
- 3:47The reason the officer seemed suspicious is because the first
- 3:50responders noticed that rigor mortis had already started setting in,
- 3:53tightening his facial muscles. This usually starts anywhere from two
- 3:58to four hours after death, not barely one hour that
- 4:01Shanda is claiming here. But the real question is how
- 4:05Shonda never noticed just how skinny and emaciated Timothy really was.
- 4:09This sort of malnourishment doesn't just happen overnight. So the
- 4:12officer asks her to explain herself.
- 4:15Speaker 7: I asked him to eat last night because his face
- 4:17started looking a little bit.
- 4:18Speaker 4: I'm like, okay, and he wouldn't show.
- 4:20Speaker 6: I'm like, let me see, hold your shirt up, and
- 4:21he wouldn't hold his shirt up. He wouldn't do anything.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Did he get real skinny last time too? Yes?
- 4:26Speaker 6: The only reason I know is because my seven year
- 4:28walked in on him accidentally went into the shower downstairs,
- 4:31and then.
- 4:31Speaker 4: My seven year old comes up. He's like, MoMA, really skinny.
- 4:34Speaker 3: I was like, was that this time or last time?
- 4:37Speaker 7: And I told him he was either gonna start eating ever.
- 4:40Speaker 6: Multiple times a day, or I was taking him the hospital,
- 4:42and he didn't want to go to the hospital, so
- 4:43so we.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Ended up eating on his own.
- 4:45Speaker 9: Yes, and then so this last time was it because
- 4:49your husband wasn't home.
- 4:50Speaker 6: He hasn't been home since stained Ory third. He actually
- 4:53mentioned he was hungry the day his stepdad or his
- 4:55dad has stepmam called to tell us they were divorced
- 4:57and moving to Florida last week.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Shanda is essentially saying that Timothy wasn't eating because of
- 5:02a quote hunger strike campaigning against family problems. Back in January,
- 5:07Adam vander Ark, Shanda's husband had a stroke and had
- 5:11to move out due to issues accessing their home. Apparently,
- 5:14this caused Timothy to stop eating for three weeks, and
- 5:17he only started again after threats of being taken to
- 5:20the hospital. But for the last two weeks he'd stopped
- 5:23eating again, allegedly this time due to his biological father,
- 5:27divorcing his wife and moving away to Florida. Each of
- 5:30these events did indeed happen, but as it would turn out,
- 5:34they had nothing to do with Timothy's hunger at all.
- 5:37Police handed over the case two detectives who obtained a
- 5:40search warrant and began to collect evidence throughout the house.
- 5:43That's when they found leg shackles in a drawer, four
- 5:46webcams scattered strategically placed around a basement, zip ties in
- 5:51the bathroom, a half empty bottle of extreme regret Carolina
- 5:55Reaper hot sauce, and locks on every single fridge, freezer,
- 5:59and pantry in the house. This painted a picture of
- 6:02a helpless boy forced to live inhumanely among his own
- 6:06dirt and felth watched every second of the day and
- 6:10brutally toward until the very end. The next day, an
- 6:14autopsy was conducted on Timothy's body, finding even more strange
- 6:18and worrying things. He had extremely sunken eyes, slightly blue
- 6:22tinted skin, and there were many signs of dehydration as well.
- 6:26His cause of death was determined to be dehydration and
- 6:29extreme emaciation due to starvation, with hypothermia playing a role too.
- 6:34With all of this information and evidence gathered, the police
- 6:37knew something foul had to be a play. They just
- 6:40weren't sure what. Starvation in a house filled with food,
- 6:44hypothermia in the middle of an American summer, alongside hot
- 6:48sauce and handcuffs. It had to all come together somehow.
- 6:52So the day after Timothy's death, at three point fifty seven, PM,
- 6:55they bring in Paul Shanda's twenty year old son for
- 6:58interrogation to try and uncover what all this could possibly
- 7:02mean and how exactly he was involved. What Paul doesn't
- 7:06know is that they've already collected a mountain of evidence.
- 7:09Detective Ryan Peask is going to use a five step
- 7:12program to slowly extract the truth from Paul, starting by
- 7:16getting on his good side and ending by tearing into
- 7:19him and making him feel so guilty you'll have no
- 7:22choice but to confess to everything.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I own specifications here, who your phons? Okay? As you
- 7:42were a communications yourself? Love yet thanks the best talking.
- 7:51Speaker 3: About As mentioned, police have spent the last twenty four
- 7:54hours coming over text messages, camera recordings, crime scene images
- 7:59and much more to try and get a good picture
- 8:01of what had happened. So as the cases with many
- 8:04younger suspects, Detective Peace will start calmly trying to put
- 8:08Paul at ease and get on its good side before
- 8:11slowly breaking him down and exposing the truth.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I know that we talked yesterday.
- 8:16Speaker 10: I know that talk yesterday. You don't have to feel bad,
- 8:21you don't have to go look about not telling the
- 8:24true to me. I'm not trying to be truthful and
- 8:26reacting brother fifty desert that.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I mean, there's there a lot of masses thoughts that
- 8:31he hasn't do anything about what's eating, about kicking how
- 8:35that how a work because we had notice and we
- 8:41wanted to get that. We didn't want any injured. I
- 8:47love you so much. Yeah, I can tell that at
- 8:51and we wanted with best path to you. You wanted
- 8:57that back enough where it would be we wouldn't have
- 9:08to worry and we can restrictions. We made sure that
- 9:12it was calories and everything. There was rice or bread
- 9:19and pizza.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Throughout the thousands of texts detectives have between Paul and Shanda,
- 9:27there's a huge amount of talk about food restrictions. It
- 9:30doesn't take much to realize that this was why Timothy
- 9:33was thin as he was. Peace will focus more on
- 9:35this later. What's more interesting, though, is how Paul justified this.
- 9:40Speaker 1: We made calories everything.
- 9:47Speaker 3: These aren't Paul's own thoughts. This is just what he's
- 9:50been told by his mother since the started. Over the
- 9:53course of several months, he's internalized it and now seems
- 9:57to fully believe that what he's been doing to Timothy
- 9:59is for his own good.
- 10:01Speaker 11: We did take the way his devices also because he
- 10:19wouldn't school fold just.
- 10:24Speaker 1: He should help so much.
- 10:34Speaker 9: I believe it was okay my dad's control of He
- 10:39didn't want to have any contact his control of.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Note, how the only consequence that Paul mentions here is
- 10:48the facts that they take away his phone occasionally, something
- 10:51fairly inocuous. It's also worth mentioning just how quickly he
- 10:55tries to put Timothy and his father down in exactly
- 10:57the same way his mother was known to do. But
- 11:00as Paul continues talking, it becomes clear exactly how much
- 11:03of a problem this has actually become, and that he
- 11:06might have actually been strongly manipulated by her to do
- 11:09all of this.
- 11:10Speaker 5: I had emotional relief. I was so terrified him that
- 11:19I did, and it was so terrified.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Here.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I can't do it in the right ways. I never
- 11:33do it any undone. He was a blessing. It is
- 11:46a blessing, of course.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Before having her third son, Gabriel, Shanda had a procedure
- 11:53to restore her fertility. To her having Gabriel was a
- 11:57miracle because she didn't know if this would work. That's
- 12:01likely why no evidence was ever found of her harming
- 12:03Gabriel because he was by far and away her favorite child.
- 12:07That does, however, provide a hammering reason for why she
- 12:10might have abuse Timothy so much. He was her problem
- 12:14child and she didn't like the fact he had so
- 12:17many mental health conditions, so she wanted to take her
- 12:19anger out on and deal with the problem directly.
- 12:30Speaker 12: I would call an attitude because unnecessary, and she would
- 12:35get off.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Was audu I'll be honest to my devices. Okay, not
- 12:45very much. That was strict my sister did. So now
- 12:54you're in work exactly great bills my father. She doesn't
- 13:02force me to give her as my pecheck for wage
- 13:10at both.
- 13:13Speaker 9: My mother came my father right now, we shouldn't want
- 13:17to call him because the one thing that she.
- 13:19Speaker 1: And I will know as he's going and real blame.
- 13:23Speaker 3: He can't her listen to how he's talking about his father.
- 13:27He's only able to say negative things about him and
- 13:30brings these points up even while unprompted. He clearly has
- 13:34a strong dislike of his father and talks about him
- 13:37like a divorced partner. Take a guess where that stemmed from.
- 13:40It's clear his mother has been feeding him lies in
- 13:43negativity about his father. And there's no clearer example of
- 13:46this than what he says next, I will be.
- 13:50Speaker 5: Here into sky because for the time after I've moved out.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Of my parents house escaping and both had actually been.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Nobody was tricked. Shanda simply was a bad person. The
- 14:09police report contains countless witness testimonies from family, friends and
- 14:12teachers who knew something was wrong and believed Shanda to
- 14:16be a bad parent. This wasn't an uncommon opinion. One
- 14:20of Timothy's teachers even told the cops that all the
- 14:22teachers knew he wasn't cared for at home and that
- 14:25he lived through hell most of his life. But to
- 14:29save face, Shanda would make up lies to tell Paul
- 14:32that made her seem perfect and kept his respect at
- 14:35the cost of making his father seem downright evil. That's
- 14:38what makes this case so controversial. Paul was almost certainly
- 14:42not in control for the majority of this, and he
- 14:44was definitely manipulated by his mother to some extent, but
- 14:48he still went through with everything, and that's what a
- 14:51jury would end up focusing on.
- 15:00Speaker 8: Same.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I was very concerned. It was just you know,
- 15:04what do you think that made really react to take
- 15:06it after or yeah, honestly, that probably would have been
- 15:10one too an he send picture like you legs, So
- 15:14it was just basically all right and something along the line.
- 15:19Speaker 12: Yeah, But the thing is yesterday, and I think the
- 15:23day before he could walk, he might be a little
- 15:26support every so often, like he put his hand against
- 15:29the wall or grabbed.
- 15:30Speaker 1: The rail of the stairs, but after a couple of
- 15:32seconds he'd let it go. It would be fine. It
- 15:35was never anything major.
- 15:37Speaker 13: What was like, the last time I was really like
- 15:39talking to you, like able to add a conversation or
- 15:42his track.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Last time he actually talked was three days ago, but
- 15:46the day before or the day after that, the.
- 15:49Speaker 9: Day before yesterday he could talk, he talked to a
- 15:52small amount in the morning, but then he just sort
- 15:55of making promies and moments.
- 15:57Speaker 3: And it must take in a stunt amount of delusion
- 16:01to believe that not being able to walk or speak
- 16:04isn't anything major. But in reality that's not what they thought.
- 16:08They thought he was faking it entirely. In fact, on
- 16:12the day before Timothy died, Shanda told Paul to wave
- 16:15warm pizza rolls just in front of him and take
- 16:18them back if he tries to eat them. It all
- 16:20just seems as though they were messing with him to
- 16:22satisfy their own sadistic desires.
- 16:31Speaker 1: He taking bath and I went in there to kick
- 16:35on one for and he's just go in there, my
- 16:38but okay. He didn't repond, but he was looking around
- 16:41so and he was breathing. I know that much. But
- 16:44he was a talk that no, and.
- 16:47Speaker 14: It started to do to me.
- 16:49Speaker 1: I'm not sure if to kiss mo. Yeah, I probably
- 16:54shouldn't tell him about the one though. Stupid to think
- 17:00about it like this. Right, she's strong at all, and
- 17:03she that that's all right, you made someone. I see
- 17:08you may use times to say when need to do
- 17:11something about this.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah, he does.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I know she's a good person.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Paul is beating himself up because he knows that he
- 17:20assisted in all of this. But notice how Peace is
- 17:23still trying to reassure Paul and shift the blame away
- 17:26from him. Fortunately, this is about to pay off massively
- 17:30as he starts to talk more about the punishments that
- 17:32Timothy was put through.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Get this right now.
- 17:35Speaker 13: A lot of time where it's the time trying to
- 17:38figure out what can you've changed things? What cool have
- 17:41done differently, How do we get to the point when
- 17:43we're at because you know clearly where you got say
- 17:48that a.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Nice little or right? How he pumps with that? Right,
- 17:53that's a cool ie cool back.
- 17:55Speaker 8: I didn't you did?
- 17:57Speaker 1: How many times you guys getting cool? I think for
- 18:09I don't exactly really number, but it wasn't a lock
- 18:14five every day the other day five.
- 18:23Speaker 4: It was.
- 18:28Speaker 12: Would be.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Peace. Actually knows exactly how often these baths occurred because
- 18:36Paul and Seanda documented every single instance of this over text,
- 18:40and Timothy was subjected to them constantly. Even worse, they
- 18:44would last up to nine hours at a time. And remember,
- 18:47Timothy weighed only sixty nine pounds. He barely had a
- 18:51drop of body fat on him, meaning that he would
- 18:53have felt the effects of the cold considerably more than
- 18:55the average person. This is why the autopsy turned up
- 18:59the evidence of hypo thermia and rolled it as one
- 19:01of his main causes of death.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Why well.
- 19:12Speaker 14: Cooled but also pot and wasn't too happy with absolutely
- 19:25into the house and get messages yeah WoT.
- 19:31Speaker 3: As peak mentions. Timothy didn't sleep in a bed. He
- 19:34slept in a small, cramped closet that he couldn't even
- 19:37stand up in and the punishment that Paul mentioned, well,
- 19:41that would have actually happened either way. Inside the basement
- 19:44where Timothy slept were multiple cameras and an alarm on
- 19:48the door. If he'd have gone to the bathroom instead,
- 19:50then he would have been punished for leaving his room.
- 19:53Timothy was completely trapped.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Why he'd always wanted the best thing? We you guys
- 20:00that there's a viral or is absolutely what's that for?
- 20:06Speaker 9: When you would try and see because if notice was
- 20:09also war on the garage or that was also because yeah,
- 20:12there's some food in there, which kind of seed?
- 20:15Speaker 1: And it wasn't just that he was hungry at some
- 20:18points for those it was death. He wanted somebody see again.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Peace is being extremely nice and agreeing directly with what
- 20:28is said, trying to make him feel like what he's
- 20:30saying is still fine. So he incriminates himself even further.
- 20:35Speaker 1: We talked about red. How long was head? A week
- 20:40or two? What was he?
- 20:44Speaker 9: We do rhyme sandwiches and I think at some points
- 20:49we actually give him like a meal.
- 20:52Speaker 1: What uh? Why would think that news?
- 20:57Speaker 3: The whole sucking Paul has no idea what to say.
- 21:02He's starting to realize just how cruel everything he did was,
- 21:06and the gravity of the situation has just hit him.
- 21:09He starved his little brother to death, and he can't
- 21:12even think of a reason why. Regardless of the circumstances
- 21:16or how much influence his mother had over him, he
- 21:18still did all of these horrifying things and there's still
- 21:23even more to come.
- 21:25Speaker 9: And that Zoo says in his books, not always, but
- 21:33it is still hardly for him.
- 21:35Speaker 1: There would be times where it would do on there.
- 21:40Speaker 4: It was.
- 21:46Speaker 1: What I remind mother, No the.
- 21:56Speaker 9: California reads two thousand school or to the school, I
- 22:02mean a sauauce.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Definitely very.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Elijah's extreme regret. Hot sauce is reviewed as not being
- 22:15something you mess around with. It measures out to eight
- 22:18hundred thousand Scoville heat units. Just shy of what a
- 22:22fresh ghost pepper would be, Paul and Shonda would routinely
- 22:25feed this to Timothy as a punishment, as well as
- 22:28putting it on the only real food he would get
- 22:30in a day. Peace also made sure to ask Paul
- 22:33what Scoville units were to make sure he knew exactly
- 22:37how bad what he was doing was. He confirmed that
- 22:40this was very, very hot to the point of being painful,
- 22:45Yet he still went through with what he did for weeks,
- 22:49so hot sauceful.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I think one time we put it in some rice,
- 23:04but after that I.
- 23:05Speaker 8: Don't think we could dive in what was right because
- 23:08you Pas was Securus at the house.
- 23:11Speaker 9: I know it was punishment, but honestly, I don't think
- 23:13it was that useful because what I said, he had no.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Feeling at the time. He he protally bit a hole
- 23:19in the At one point he didn't even feel.
- 23:21Speaker 7: It was he.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Yeah, the only those days or the other pas from
- 23:30the brag and rice, But is that not that I
- 23:32know of? Did you see it was needing more wage
- 23:38or being less pretensive or it wasn't what change would
- 23:42he looked into doing that.
- 23:43Speaker 9: There would be times where it would take him a
- 23:45moment to respond. At first I thought it was just
- 23:49him acting, but then I was getting concerned.
- 23:52Speaker 1: I think a week or so, maybe that's just off
- 23:57their delays. Yeah, so thet if you are.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Throughout this interrogation, Paul has been consistently using his mother
- 24:10as a scapegoat for everything he's done. That he was
- 24:13just following her orders. But at the same time, it's
- 24:16obvious that he knows his brother was suffering through all
- 24:19of this. Many people are familiar with the Stanford Prison experiment.
- 24:23Twenty four male college students were split into either guards
- 24:26and prisoners, and for two weeks they were supposed to
- 24:29simulate a prison. However, after just six days, the experiment
- 24:33had to be terminated due to extreme behavior. The guards
- 24:36quickly adapted to their position of power and due to
- 24:39their role being enforced invalidated by the event conductors, they
- 24:42began to abuse the prisoners to the point of emotional distress.
- 24:46That is to say, Paul was given the opportunity to
- 24:48be in control, and he took full advantage of it,
- 24:51abusing his position. At the same time, though, Paul is
- 24:54an adult and at any point he could have decided
- 24:57to stop or alert somebody about all of this, but
- 25:00he never did. Peak is also starting to realize this,
- 25:03So from here on out, he's going too slowly put
- 25:06on the pressure that will eventually break Paul and to
- 25:09make him fully realize the gravity of what he's done.
- 25:12Speaker 1: So I know that yesterday THO, well she was lying
- 25:18about some stuff, right. I know that he's a good person.
- 25:21I'm not going that at all he never wanted anything,
- 25:24But you also are you also know this, like I
- 25:27don't know some of the things that she was talking
- 25:29was about the truth right about She says she didn't
- 25:32know what it was. But the fact of the matter,
- 25:35she asked you, she said, you a text message, she said.
- 25:38Speaker 8: Look, make sure that the cameras in there, and and
- 25:42take the shower curtained down so I can see him.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Did she ask you that today? That the day before
- 25:46he assed away? Yeah? I know this Pepper sports for punishment.
- 25:50And what did she say? She said, I didn't know
- 25:53anything about that. I think she'd want to appear like
- 25:56a bad person. She doesn't want to be the bad
- 25:59guy and never want Do you want? I know that
- 26:06something you not? I'm afraid of her. I can't hear her.
- 26:11She still hear what was it he saw the fear of?
- 26:20And she would be the scene. She's nothing, I know,
- 26:25she hopes.
- 26:31Speaker 3: The pressure is already starting to cause Paul to resort
- 26:34to cathartic statements for him. Notice how as soon as
- 26:37Peak says she was lying, he praises her and makes
- 26:40excuses for her, and then immediately puts his dad down,
- 26:43saying that she's nothing like him. He's scared and he's
- 26:46trying to throw himself back into a world where he
- 26:48feels safe and comfortable. But that's not the world he
- 26:51lives in, and Peace is about to expose that once
- 26:55and for all.
- 26:56Speaker 1: First thought, Right, okay, he was in that closet, that
- 27:04right there by them. Yeah, you almost said you are
- 27:08sorry that it was that alive. Yeah, did you come
- 27:12up with that?
- 27:13Speaker 7: I know?
- 27:13Speaker 1: Or does somebody ask you any you think that he
- 27:23most do us best for him? Right? That's what you talk.
- 27:27I know she wants to best for all of us,
- 27:30So I'm ask that question. Did somebody asks you to
- 27:34say that? I cannot put that on my own?
- 27:39Speaker 3: Peak notices him start to shut down under the pressure,
- 27:42so eases off just a little, trying to reassure him
- 27:45again that he's not in any trouble and that this
- 27:46isn't his fault. Peak is almost there. He just needs
- 27:50to get a little more information out of him for
- 27:51the confession, and can't risk Paul shutting down now, So
- 27:55something will really.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Happen in the morning, because obviously, well, awesome the truth
- 28:00literally what he had. But I woke up and I
- 28:03had been grabbing my shoes. It basically, I'll play out
- 28:06like we said, the whole morning thing was exact. He was.
- 28:09Speaker 9: He wasn't breathing in closet, so that it was the
- 28:12closet though we had to get him out of the closets.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Trying to speciicate. You need guys to put him out
- 28:18of closet to see a cloth off type point? Where
- 28:20is he in taper? Was that same? He had a shirt?
- 28:25I think we had put him in pants or sweatpants
- 28:29maybe some point in the night you checked them off.
- 28:33Why you weren't there to a little bit that. No,
- 28:36so I was you know with a movie? Do you
- 28:40see them in mind? Yeah?
- 28:41Speaker 6: So?
- 28:41Speaker 1: Do you know if he had plans on it? That
- 28:43we know honestly, but he didn't have them when we
- 28:46got around. He had the diaper on at least, so
- 28:49he has the diaper on here, somebody has his shirt on.
- 28:51What should to get on the very same sweatshirt? Did
- 28:54we come to him because obviously.
- 28:56Speaker 9: We didn't want him to get cold or I don't
- 28:58think Mama wanted him to get cold.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Peak is asking some very specific questions about when Timothy
- 29:15was found. What Paul doesn't know is that the cops
- 29:18have an audio recording from one of their cameras from
- 29:20the exact moment they found Timothy dead.
- 29:32Speaker 8: How many.
- 29:51Speaker 3: Peace knows for certain that both Paul and Shonda have
- 29:53been lying this whole time and tried to cover the
- 29:56death up. This is Peak's chance to strike. He's now
- 30:00multiple steps ahead and has Paul on the back foot.
- 30:03He's now going to start tearing into Paul and his mother,
- 30:05ripping his worldview to shreds and exposing them for what
- 30:09they really are.
- 30:10Speaker 1: At That's how she said she's gonna like him. That
- 30:14I don't understand. We never weren't inting him boy, saying
- 30:23that talk writers. She didn't want to see this, She
- 30:29didn't want to see this. She loves to see Did
- 30:32you know that all that? Yes? How do you feel
- 30:35a lot during that? How do you feel she doesn't
- 30:40want to be she never wanted this. We loved him
- 30:44so much. He thinks about love. I think it's about
- 30:48that I want to do, not knowing how any of
- 30:50the situation.
- 30:54Speaker 3: Just look at how uncomfortable Paul is now. He can't
- 30:57sit still. He's covering his face and body as often
- 31:00as he can, and he's almost always hunched over. He's
- 31:03really starting to panic now and has barely even started
- 31:06ripping into him.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Do you him I agreed tell her this, he's a
- 31:11bunch better. How does that happen? You couldn't have both
- 31:13just possibly made up this s story. So she told you,
- 31:18she told me what to say because they looked back
- 31:20at you.
- 31:21Speaker 8: It's not just that we loved him, asking straight up,
- 31:26he keeps saying he loved love.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Do you feel like this was love? That he's that?
- 31:31Who does that feel like loved you? He's because he's
- 31:35gonna eat And I don't know anybody who thinks that's love.
- 31:38Speaker 8: What I think is happening is your mom convinced you
- 31:41that she's just perfect person, and she's asking me to
- 31:44do all these things that are literally killing your brother.
- 31:47Speaker 1: She's not perfect.
- 31:48Speaker 8: How does love ice fass, house love, handcuffing and house love,
- 31:53restricting movement and hows loves hot sauce and mouth.
- 31:57Speaker 1: And only eating breadly? What if you're what do you
- 32:00you have to eat bread? How would he feel? What
- 32:02if you when you got to eat bread with hot sauce?
- 32:04Would you eat? She's not perfect, but she's not you
- 32:09know any good people? Child to death to that's a
- 32:13child has a lot of problems, like some childhood's taking
- 32:17care of himself? How is that love person? How's that
- 32:19a lovely mother? You know?
- 32:21Speaker 8: That sounds like to me, And honestly, the worst way
- 32:24I heard in that entire life is sounded to me.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Maybe he's taking food because he must all later. You've
- 32:30ever thought about that? Yes, food so they can survive.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Paul has fully collapsed in on himself at this point.
- 32:38His worldview is strting to break into pieces. The person
- 32:41he looked up to, respected and loved is now being
- 32:45painted as a monster that's going to prison for the
- 32:48rest of her life. For the worst part, he hasn't
- 32:50even realized that he might be facing the exact same consequences.
- 32:55Speaker 1: She puts you right in middle.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Of the story.
- 32:57Speaker 1: It looks like some of the stuff you're happy, and
- 32:59it actually stuff in some of the things you kind
- 33:01of enjoy. Did you kind of enjoy punishing for doing
- 33:05Do you feel like he kind of enjoyed punching best
- 33:08Maybe not that he was in pain, but you were
- 33:11in charge and you have to tell him you can't
- 33:13do that. Go do this. This is your punish. Did
- 33:15you like something that?
- 33:17Speaker 8: How come you guys are laughing and joking about it,
- 33:19sometimes with smiling faces.
- 33:21Speaker 1: There's no way that you can look at yourself and
- 33:24think that's okay. Why couldn't he a Why couldn't need that?
- 33:30Why does it have to be bred with hot sauce?
- 33:33I think they're way more has to do with smile.
- 33:35Speaker 3: This is actually the defense that Paul would use in court,
- 33:38and the trial would turn out to be even more
- 33:40interesting than the interrogation. He would try to claim that
- 33:43he wasn't the one in control at all, He was
- 33:45just following his mother's orders, doing what he was telling him.
- 33:48But unfortunately for him, there were messages like these, along
- 33:52with much more evidence he yet to be discovered, that
- 33:55made it hard to believe that this was the truth.
- 33:58Speaker 1: Were red I.
- 34:01Speaker 9: Hit something like put do everything right now?
- 34:06Speaker 1: How do you feel about living your life? Where you
- 34:07hit that your brother wasn't needing from society, That you
- 34:11hit that your brother was dying, How do you feel
- 34:14about that?
- 34:15Speaker 8: I hate myself, O ice past my stuff on the daily,
- 34:19died right eating up to it.
- 34:21Speaker 1: And she wanted him to sleep in the tub. That's
- 34:22what I read. Did that happen? Did he sleep in
- 34:24the tub? No? He didn't know. He didn't at bathtub
- 34:28and you guys tracked him too that closet and waiting
- 34:30for the morning. The publicans that's not what happened.
- 34:33Speaker 10: No, you think that message is just a little bit
- 34:35suspicious that she sent you out just about midnight and
- 34:38says he's in the closet, eye to drag me in there.
- 34:41Speaker 1: You don't think he was already dying or dad at
- 34:43that point. Doesn't even seem like maybe he was already dead,
- 34:46that she put it in there so that he could
- 34:48wake up and I die and you sleep and she
- 34:50gn't call the police when he's in an ice bath
- 34:53and he freezes and dies.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Whether this was true or not well remain a mystery
- 34:57for a while. But whatever the case, there was certainly
- 35:00a large attempted cover up by both Shanda and Paul
- 35:03to try and make it seem like this was somehow,
- 35:06some way natural causes. Timothy was treated like dirt until
- 35:10the very end. A detective piece has had enough, felt myself,
- 35:15but how do.
- 35:16Speaker 1: You feel over over in finding your mother? How could
- 35:19you do you feel like that's the truth anymore? I'm
- 35:22not quite a disgusted by her, I'm a disgusted by her.
- 35:25She never wonder how smart is you? She's incredible intelligent?
- 35:31Speaker 8: How crude loud you right, tyr thought, how can we
- 35:34mean this smart, this intelligent graduate.
- 35:38Speaker 1: From law school? How could she not know what's happening?
- 35:42How could she think this is stake? How does she
- 35:45not mean? How does she not see that these wasting away?
- 35:48Speaker 8: And you here, you're telling me that you got from
- 35:52sometimes help, that you've got to graduated from high school.
- 35:54Speaker 1: And it's very obvious to you that he's not he's
- 35:57got a malnutrition, right, it's very obvious you put your
- 36:04and she's very smart. I don't know, I don't exactly
- 36:13what happens, what she thought was going to happen. She
- 36:15never wanted him, She loved him, That loved you. Everything
- 36:21that we talked about is.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Even through the shouts of an enraged detective Peace, Paul
- 36:28still defends his mother to the very end, trying to
- 36:31come up with excuses for her and even take the blame.
- 36:34But that would all come to an end on trial.
- 36:37In the meantime, though, just five days after his interrogation,
- 36:40Paul decided to go live on Facebook to update his
- 36:43friends and family on everything that had happened. Given what
- 36:46we know now, the surviving video is probably one of
- 36:49the most eerie pieces of footage we've ever shown on
- 36:52this channel.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Everybody, I just figured i'd send a quick check. We're
- 36:59doing good right now. We just dozed off on the
- 37:02couch unintentionally. And for those of you who aren't aware,
- 37:08my little brother has passed away and.
- 37:13Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 37:13Speaker 4: It's a lot to deal with, but by yes, it's supported.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Yes. Don't find out much to say right now.
- 37:40Speaker 6: M
