• 2:46
Speaker 4: good morning, welcome to the show.
• 2:48
  Speaker 5: Good morning.
• 2:50
Speaker 4: I am doing fine. Last week we had Angie on
• 2:53
Speaker 4: the show because I think you had some some things
• 2:54
Speaker 4: that you had to take care of, and Angie did
• 2:57
Speaker 4: a great job. But you know she's not Hannah. I'm kidding.
• 3:00
Speaker 4: If Angel Liz, I'm kidding, I'm kidding and you did
• 3:03
Speaker 4: a great job. But welcome back.
• 3:06
  Speaker 5: Well, thank you.
• 3:07
Speaker 4: Our pet of the week is Pepper. And when I'll
• 3:10
Speaker 4: get the picture as always posted Dave aland Radio and
• 3:12
Speaker 4: Facebook at the Dave Alan Show at Dave A seventy
• 3:15
Speaker 4: on X. Tell us all about Pepper.
• 3:18
Speaker 5: All right, Well, Pepper, she is a female and I
• 3:23
Speaker 5: do not think she's fixed yet, but she will be.
• 3:26
Speaker 5: She's around two years old. She's microchipped already, and I
• 3:31
Speaker 5: believe she has all her vaccines up to date. I
• 3:34
Speaker 5: think the only vaccine she will need us through rabies
• 3:37
Speaker 5: vaccine when she gets sixed, and then she'll be ready
• 3:39
Speaker 5: to go home. Now, she did come in as astray
• 3:44
Speaker 5: to us, and we don't really know her background or
• 3:48
Speaker 5: anything like that. But she is a very very sweet girl.
• 3:51
Speaker 5: She's a little dashful, for she can be a little headshine.
• 3:56
Speaker 5: What I mean by that is whenever you're going into
• 4:00
Speaker 5: pet a dog, or if you're going like if you're
• 4:02
Speaker 5: taking your hand over their head or something like that,
• 4:05
Speaker 5: it can make a dog very headshy to where they
• 4:07
Speaker 5: will like huck her down a little bit and they
• 4:10
Speaker 5: will be a little bit more fearful of what you're doing,
• 4:13
Speaker 5: because you know, you're a big, tall person coming over
• 4:16
Speaker 5: them and they are smaller than you. So some dogs
• 4:21
Speaker 5: prefer you to kind of, you know, let them come
• 4:22
Speaker 5: up to you. Smiss you, and she has fine. She's
• 4:25
Speaker 5: definitely gotten a lot better with it. She's very very sweet.
• 4:29
Speaker 5: She actually loves other dogs. She's very playful with them.
• 4:32
Speaker 5: She prefers playful dogs because she's playful herself. When she
• 4:36
Speaker 5: first came in, she was very shy.
• 4:38
Speaker 4: To the other dogs.
• 4:38
Speaker 5: But she's definitely opened up a lot more, and she
• 4:41
Speaker 5: has pool in the leasha a little bit, but she
• 4:44
Speaker 5: is doing a little better with that. And of course,
• 4:47
Speaker 5: with some guidance and some training, she will be very
• 4:52
  Speaker 5: good at times.
• 4:52
  Speaker 6: Very sure.
• 4:53
Speaker 5: She's a good bustener, So she would be a good
• 4:56
Speaker 5: family dog, I would say, but of course if there
• 4:59
Speaker 5: are ki and I would say this with any dog,
• 5:01
Speaker 5: even if they're the sweetest. Always always, always a dogged
• 5:05
Speaker 5: caution with kids. I always teach your kids boundaries as
• 5:08
Speaker 5: well as the dog. But other than that, she is
• 5:11
Speaker 5: a really all around the dog. And I believe she
• 5:14
Speaker 5: is a round fortyish pound so and she's a full
• 5:17
Speaker 5: grown so she might fill out a little bit more,
• 5:19
Speaker 5: but she's not going to give any figger.
• 5:21
Speaker 4: And you said that she loves car rides.
• 5:24
Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, she has been out to a foster home before,
• 5:28
Speaker 5: and they did let us know that she absolutely loved
• 5:31
Speaker 5: the car rides and that she was shy with the
• 5:36
Speaker 5: kids that were in her home, so very very kind
• 5:39
Speaker 5: of shy with the kids. But that's why I always say,
• 5:42
Speaker 5: you know, just to be cautious. She didn't show any
• 5:45
Speaker 5: red flags or anything with the kids, but of course
• 5:47
Speaker 5: again always added caution.
• 5:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, and again that's just that's not necessarily as you'd
• 5:52
Speaker 4: like to use the term red flag. It's not necessarily
• 5:54
Speaker 4: a red flag. It just means that he just takes
• 5:57
Speaker 4: a little bit of time to warm up. The day

• 6:11
Speaker 4: dirty Birds gear and more. This is a Dirty Birds
• 6:14
Speaker 4: Baseball dot Com checking out your social media, Hannah. Not
• 6:17
Speaker 4: a good day there at the shelter yesterday you took
• 6:20
Speaker 4: in some parvo dogs. You had a dog who was
• 6:23
Speaker 4: hit by a train. You know, as the old song says,
• 6:26
Speaker 4: Mama said, there'd be days like this, But that's I
• 6:28
Speaker 4: guess that's part of it, right.
• 6:30
Speaker 5: Yes, Yes, we've had a lot of days lately where
• 6:32
Speaker 5: they have just been back to that crazy chaotic and
• 6:37
Speaker 5: you know, we're just pushing through them. We did have
• 6:39
Speaker 5: a lot of stuff come in yesterday, but again we
• 6:42
Speaker 5: are very very very tim team worked here, so definitely
• 6:47
Speaker 5: all taking our hands in and helping in every way
• 6:50
  Speaker 5: that we can.
• 6:50
Speaker 4: Well, actually, we had a text of the show somebody
• 6:52
Speaker 4: wanted to ask you how was the dog that was
• 6:54
Speaker 4: hit by the train?
• 6:56
Speaker 5: I personally I'm not hudd of that sure, but I
• 6:59
Speaker 5: do say that that dog is not doing very well,
• 7:03
Speaker 5: or maybe it already had packed.
• 7:05
Speaker 4: I believe that's horrible. Getting back to the parvo dogs,
• 7:09
Speaker 4: how exactly does the shelter handle dogs that come in
• 7:12
  Speaker 4: with parvo?
• 7:13
Speaker 5: So whenever they come in, if they are showing sounds
• 7:16
Speaker 5: of parvo, any symptoms or anything like that of parvo,
• 7:20
Speaker 5: which could be a wide variety of things, and if
• 7:22
Speaker 5: you call up to the shelter, we could even give
• 7:23
Speaker 5: you a full list of those. We could even tell you,
• 7:27
Speaker 5: you know, things to look out for. But whenever they
• 7:30
Speaker 5: come in, we will take if they are and we
• 7:32
Speaker 5: do a parvo test on them, we will take them
• 7:34
Speaker 5: down to our cargo ward which is downstairs kind of
• 7:38
Speaker 5: where Fixed Charleston is, but it's in like a separate
• 7:41
Speaker 5: little area, and we will treat them until they are
• 7:46
Speaker 5: cleared for parvo and then they will be available for adoption.
• 7:50
Speaker 5: So we have a very very successful pargo savory. We're
• 7:54
Speaker 5: very very proud of that. So the ones that do
• 7:57
Speaker 5: not make it is very far few, but we always
• 8:00
Speaker 5: have you know, there is always, of course, unfortunately some
• 8:03
Speaker 5: that are already too far into it. But yes, we
• 8:06
Speaker 5: definitely treat them as soon as they come in.
• 8:09
Speaker 4: Right. You guys did another event with Fitz Charleston. Thea
• 8:13
Speaker 4: that it's a great organization to deal with, and I
• 8:15
Speaker 4: know that they do these pop ups around the valley
• 8:17
Speaker 4: from time to time, so it really would behoove people
• 8:20
Speaker 4: to take advantage of them when they're out there. You
• 8:22
Speaker 4: were I think, I want to say it was Wednesday
• 8:24
Speaker 4: of this week, I think is what it was. But regardless,
• 8:26
Speaker 4: it was one day this week, and you always post
• 8:28
Speaker 4: about it on your Facebook page of the of the
• 8:31
Speaker 4: animal shelter, so it would be a great opportunity for
• 8:33
Speaker 4: people to kind of follow along, follow your page and
• 8:35
Speaker 4: see when they're going to be out and about. Again.
• 8:38
Speaker 5: Yes, yes, we definitely do vac seeing clinics here and there,
• 8:41
Speaker 5: and they are very very helpful to a lot of people.
• 8:44
Speaker 5: We always get a lot of people to show up.
• 8:46
Speaker 5: So if we do another one, please keep an eye
• 8:49
Speaker 5: on our Facebook page. We always post when we do this,
• 8:51
Speaker 5: and come on out and get all the vaccines that
• 8:54
Speaker 5: you can for your animals.
• 8:55
Speaker 4: All right, and as we all, I'd like to close
• 8:57
Speaker 4: the segments each week by asking you how are the
• 8:59
Speaker 4: numbers at the sh shelter looking and what do you
• 9:01
  Speaker 4: need there?
• 9:03
Speaker 5: Of course, we always need blankets and towels. We've been
• 9:07
Speaker 5: really really using a lot of those. Where we have
• 9:10
Speaker 5: so many animals going to foster homes as well as
• 9:13
Speaker 5: in the shelter, our numbers are still very high. I
• 9:17
Speaker 5: think we are still in critical condition right now where
• 9:21
Speaker 5: we do have so many. I think we still are upward.
• 9:25
Speaker 5: I think we're at like three seventy six animals total
• 9:28
Speaker 5: in our care, and that is in foster and in shelter.
• 9:32
Speaker 5: So that is a lot, and that is.
• 9:33
Speaker 4: Very very high for us, all right, Well as always, Hannah,
• 9:37
Speaker 4: it is a pleasure to talk to you, and we'll
• 9:39
Speaker 4: talk to you again next week. Thanks a lot, all right,
• 9:41

Speaker 4: let's review. Pepper is our dog, two year old female,
• 9:56
Speaker 4: not fixed yet but will be soon. Love's other friendly dogs.
• 10:00
Speaker 4: Loves car rides, coop that's perfect for you. Loves car
• 10:03
Speaker 4: rides and does pull slightly on the leash. Can be
• 10:08
Speaker 4: a little bit shy at first, but once she warms
• 10:09
Speaker 4: up to you, she's a fantastic dog. And she's probably
• 10:13
Speaker 4: not going to get a lot bigger. She's pretty good
• 10:15
Speaker 4: sized dog. I think around forty pounds or so, but
• 10:19
Speaker 4: she's probably not gonna get any bigger. She's like the
• 10:21
Speaker 4: rest of us. She's gonna get a little bit more round,
• 10:23
Speaker 4: but she's probably not going to grow anymore. So go
• 10:27
Speaker 4: get the dog. I've got the dog's picture posted as
• 10:29
Speaker 4: I always do, Dave aland Radio on Facebook and at
• 10:32

• 10:34
Speaker 4: So go check out Pepper and let's get Pepper home today,

• 10:47
Speaker 4: comeing up to talk about Live on the Levee. Girls'
• 10:49
Speaker 4: Night Out is tomorrow night, and plus we'll talk a
• 10:51
Speaker 4: little golf coming up a little bit later on. But
• 10:53
Speaker 4: I gotta tell you a quick story though, before we
• 10:55
Speaker 4: go to break. Earlier this week, I had Conan County
• 10:59
Speaker 4: Commisster Ben Salang on the show, and when Commissioner Selango
• 11:03
Speaker 4: was on, we had a texture to the show who
• 11:06
Speaker 4: suggested to Commissioner Selango that it would be nice if
• 11:09
Speaker 4: the county were to offer some sort of a discount
• 11:13
Speaker 4: for active and former military members and for first responders. Well,
• 11:19
Speaker 4: Commissioner Solango and if you go, if you go, and
• 11:23
Speaker 4: you listen to the interview, which I listened to a
• 11:25
Speaker 4: little bit of it yesterday. I read the text on
• 11:27
Speaker 4: the air and Ben was sitting over over to my
• 11:31
Speaker 4: left and he said, you know what, and he kind
• 11:32
Speaker 4: of shook. He said, that's a good idea. So yesterday
• 11:35
Speaker 4: afternoon I get a text from Commissioner Selango that says
• 11:39
Speaker 4: that's and it was announced formally yesterday. Starting today, there
• 11:43
Speaker 4: is now a ten percent discount offered to current and
• 11:47
Speaker 4: past military members and first responders. Again, the Texter had said,
• 11:50
Speaker 4: why can't we do this for those that like to
• 11:52
Speaker 4: play golf here in the area, and Commissioner Selango thought
• 11:56
Speaker 4: it was a good idea, got the wheels in motion,
• 11:58
Speaker 4: and they officially announced it yesterday. That's starting today, there
• 12:01
Speaker 4: is now a ten percent discount offered to current and
• 12:04
Speaker 4: past military members and to first responders. Now the discount
• 12:07
Speaker 4: is good at the short course at Coonskin and also
• 12:10
Speaker 4: at Big Bed And all you got to do is
• 12:12
Speaker 4: show them your ID to get the discounts. So there,
• 12:16
Speaker 4: How cool is that? And Coop, it all came from
• 12:18
Speaker 4: a texture to the show. That's where it all. That's
• 12:20
Speaker 4: where it all came from. In the heart of West Virginia,
• 12:22
Speaker 4: there exists a profound force that goes beyond the realm
• 12:25
Speaker 4: of sports, transcending limitations and fostering the sense of belonging.
• 12:28
Speaker 4: Special Olympics is what I'm talking about, and there is
• 12:31
Speaker 4: a remarkable initiative that showcase of the latest episode of
• 12:34
Speaker 4: West Virginia Enriched in collaboration with Huntington, and it stands
• 12:37
Speaker 4: as a testament to the power of determination, unity and

• 13:00
Speaker 4: Why do outside city limits but still Knawk County do
• 13:03
Speaker 4: you have to pay for the vaccines and microchips but
• 13:05
Speaker 4: Charleston gets them free at these pop ups? Well, what
• 13:08
Speaker 4: that is that's the organization that is doing that. That
• 13:11
Speaker 4: is the Fixed Charleston organization that is waving unless I'm wrong,
• 13:15
Speaker 4: that's who's waving the fees at those things, and they
• 13:19
Speaker 4: run off donations. So that's how that happens. It's not
• 13:23
Speaker 4: necessarily the shelter that's doing that. It is groups, and
• 13:25
Speaker 4: there are several groups around here that do great things.
• 13:27
Speaker 4: Fixed Charleston is one of them. So that's kind of
• 13:30
Speaker 4: that's kind of how that happens. It's based on donations
• 13:34
Speaker 4: that are given from them. And again follow the Knaw
• 13:36
Speaker 4: Charleston Main Association on Facebook and their social media. They
• 13:39
Speaker 4: do a really good job of telling you where these
• 13:41
Speaker 4: pop ups were going to be. This last one I
• 13:42
Speaker 4: think was it was at one of the Airy Big
• 13:44
Speaker 4: Lot stores. So there you go. All right, we're going
• 13:47

• 16:54
Speaker 11: think it's going to be a picture perfect weather.
• 16:57
  Speaker 6: Night.
• 16:57
  Speaker 3: Started out a.
• 16:58
Speaker 11: Little warm, but then the cool front coming in, maybe
• 17:00
Speaker 11: a nice little breeze. It could drop dare I say
• 17:03
Speaker 11: it into the seventies by the end of the night.
• 17:05
Speaker 11: Seventy seventies. So yeah, it's going to be a nice evening.
• 17:08
Speaker 11: It's a special evening too, not just because it's the
• 17:10
Speaker 11: last one, but the city has really done a nice
• 17:13
Speaker 11: job rolling out the red carpet for the kiddos, really
• 17:16
Speaker 11: catering to the children. It's back to school night, So
• 17:19
Speaker 11: not only are we going to have about twenty vendors
• 17:21
Speaker 11: that are going to be handing out things getting you
• 17:24
Speaker 11: ready for school, tools for school, all the essentials that
• 17:27

• 17:31
Speaker 11: It's also West Virginia State University Night. It's also Girls
• 17:34
Speaker 11: Scout Night. A lot of special nights tonight, but most
• 17:37
Speaker 11: of it kind of revolves around children and getting back
• 17:41
Speaker 11: to school. And then, oh, by the way, there's going
• 17:43

• 17:43
  Speaker 4: Yes.
• 17:44
Speaker 6: Oh by the way.
• 17:45
Speaker 4: Before we get to these, I want to talk about
• 17:47
Speaker 4: some of the activities you got down there. There's a
• 17:48
Speaker 4: bike helmet giveaway, donkey booth, face painting, finger printing, a
• 17:54

• 18:21
Speaker 11: really great for children of all ages.
• 18:24
Speaker 3: Yeah, come on down.
• 18:25

Speaker 11: Live a Levee would not be Live on Levey unless

Speaker 11: people came down to enjoy it. Yeah, So everybody's had
• 20:16
Speaker 11: a great time, and I'm still trying to find that
• 20:19
Speaker 11: one person that I look up and see in a
• 20:21
  Speaker 11: bad mood.
• 20:21
Speaker 3: And I haven't found that person yet. You come to
• 20:23

• 20:30
Speaker 4: large eighteen inch pepperoni pizza and an eight inch chocolate
• 20:33
Speaker 4: chip cookie for only twenty three to ninety nine. And
• 20:35
Speaker 4: I just can't get over the weather here, Jim. I mean,
• 20:38
Speaker 4: you know, knock on Wood next year could be a
• 20:41
Speaker 4: total disaster. But this year it's been hot, because everybody
• 20:44
Speaker 4: knows it's been hot. But there hasn't been a single
• 20:47
Speaker 4: right now delay because of lightning or anything. I know,
• 20:50
Speaker 4: we've had that in the past. Yeah, we've had nothing
• 20:52
  Speaker 4: at all.
• 20:53
Speaker 3: We've had some tough summers.
• 20:54
Speaker 11: You know, in West Virginia, right here in the heart
• 20:56
Speaker 11: of Appalaccha, we're known for some pop up showers and
• 20:59
  Speaker 11: storm stiers.
• 21:00
Speaker 3: A lot of folks are.
• 21:01
Speaker 11: You know, my grandma's and my aunts and nuncles, we
• 21:03
Speaker 11: used to love sitting on the front porch and just
• 21:05
Speaker 11: listening to the summer storm and the lightning and the thunder,
• 21:08
Speaker 11: and that was kind of a thing. We haven't had
• 21:10
Speaker 11: that now this summer, and it's it's been again a
• 21:14
Speaker 11: nice summer for the fans to come down a little
• 21:19
Speaker 11: bit warm. But we've had plenty of fans down there.
• 21:21
Speaker 11: Sometimes we get the awning back. We have lots of
• 21:24
Speaker 11: refreshing drinks down there. People stayed hydrated and really enjoyed it.
• 21:28
Speaker 11: So your reward for sticking with us is seventy seven
• 21:31
Speaker 11: degrees tonight. Yeah, I mean, because you know, the weather
• 21:35
Speaker 11: is taking a definite turn.
• 21:37
Speaker 4: And I stepped out of the house this morning thinking
• 21:39
Speaker 4: it was going to be a lot cooler, and it
• 21:41
Speaker 4: was still still like a sauna, or as my grandmother
• 21:43
Speaker 4: used to say, it feels like a sainty out here.
• 21:46
Speaker 4: I think I was twelve before I realized that the
• 21:47
Speaker 4: word is sauna, not sainty. But anyway, it's the logan
• 21:51
Speaker 4: county than logan thing. But when I stepped out of
• 21:53
Speaker 4: the house where I was like, yeah, it's a little
• 21:54
Speaker 4: bit more. But they tell us that the Brian Hugheses
• 21:56
Speaker 4: and the Spencer Adkins of the world say that at
• 21:58
Speaker 4: some point we're going to get like some jet stream
• 22:00
Speaker 4: something or another, and.
• 22:01
Speaker 11: So really we're going to feel at about two and
• 22:03
Speaker 11: three o'clock and then we're going to feel it again
• 22:05
Speaker 11: about seven or eight o'clock tonight.
• 22:07
  Speaker 3: So it's it's going to.
• 22:08
Speaker 4: No other better place to be than to be live
• 22:12
Speaker 4: on the levy seeing the boats when it's not sweltering
• 22:15
Speaker 4: hot and you've got a little breeze blowing off the river.
• 22:18
Speaker 4: It's good times, man.
• 22:18
Speaker 3: I look forward to all the children tonight.
• 22:22
Speaker 11: Families, if you're listening to me right now, please, if
• 22:24
Speaker 11: you haven't been down, bring the kids down. The kids
• 22:27
Speaker 11: are going to have a blast with all the fun
• 22:29
Speaker 11: things and all the essentials that they may need. A
• 22:31
Speaker 11: lot of vendors handing out some really good products for
• 22:34
Speaker 11: you and some good information about getting ready for the
• 22:36
Speaker 11: school year. I'm going to say it again, this was
• 22:39
Speaker 11: This was Mayor Goodwin's vision, and she's done a great
• 22:41
Speaker 11: job the past couple of years with this back to
• 22:43
  Speaker 11: the school night.
• 22:44
Speaker 3: The city just blows it up. So parents, bring the
• 22:47
  Speaker 3: kids down.
• 22:48
Speaker 4: A lot of people there.
• 22:48
Speaker 3: Yeah, it should be fun.
• 22:49
Speaker 4: Should people want to come out and meet Dale Cooper?
• 22:51
Speaker 4: Well he Coop should be there, right, you're coming out
• 22:54
Speaker 4: on't you, Coop? Yeah, I'll be there. Okay, that Coop
• 23:02
Speaker 4: is multi task see him back there. You're bringing the
• 23:05
Speaker 4: little one out tonight to see this.
• 23:07
Speaker 6: I think that my wife and kid will both come out. Yes,
• 23:09
Speaker 6: I love it, Thank you, Coop.
• 23:10
Speaker 4: Well, there's a lot of lot of cool things therefore,
• 23:12
Speaker 4: and phone, you're gonna let Her're gonna throw in the phone,
• 23:14
Speaker 4: not throw in the phone. That's when CPS gets involved.
• 23:16
Speaker 2: But I think, are you going?
• 23:17
Speaker 4: Are you going to? Is this kind of stuff that
• 23:19

• 23:21
Speaker 12: Oh Sie loves just being out around all a lot
• 23:23
Speaker 12: of people, So she'll have a good time there regardless.
• 23:26
Speaker 11: Yeah, the City of Chawston Parks and rerec they got
• 23:27
Speaker 11: that phone machine, that's what you're talking about.
• 23:29
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so yeah, please.
• 23:31
Speaker 4: Do not toss your children into the phone though I
• 23:33

• 23:34
Speaker 11: Of games, the inflatable firehouse just to name a few.
• 23:37
Speaker 11: You mentioned the bike helmet giveaway. Are artists just tons
• 23:40
Speaker 11: of giveaways, and there's going to be some other giveaways
• 23:44
Speaker 11: from some of the vendors doing raffles. So the break
• 23:48
Speaker 11: from seven thirty to seven forty five might be a
• 23:50
Speaker 11: break from seven thirty to seven fifty. We have so
• 23:53
Speaker 11: much to do tonight, but it should be fun. Come down,

• 24:10
Speaker 11: years ago. I just kept coming in on Friday to
• 24:12
Speaker 11: talking about what was happening because we were so used
• 24:13
Speaker 11: to talking about what was happening.
• 24:15
  Speaker 3: I know you're welcome. I know you're welcome me, so
• 24:17
Speaker 3: I'll let you know. I'll keep you posting. Thanks for

• 25:02
Speaker 4: in case you were tuning in too late. Earlier this week,

Speaker 4: I had knock Any commission Ben Slango on the show

Speaker 4: made it public, he texted me yesterday afternoon and then
• 25:24
Speaker 4: I think they made it the public after that that

Speaker 4: with Commissioner Salango was on earlier this week. Starting today,
• 25:33
Speaker 4: there is now a ten percent discount offered to current

Speaker 4: also at Big Ben. All you got to do is
• 25:44

• 25:47
Speaker 4: going to get ten percent off for first responders and
• 25:51

Speaker 4: Now for Sandy cal. Why are you involved in this?
• 30:26
Speaker 4: I mean, well, what makes this appealing to you? Because
• 30:28
Speaker 4: there's ten thousand other charitable things are all great here
• 30:31
Speaker 4: in the Canal Valley, But what is it about this?
• 30:33
Speaker 4: That that said, I want to get involved with this.
• 30:35
Speaker 16: Well, a little backstory real quick.
• 30:37
Speaker 17: Mike Fulio, the amazing Mike folio from North Central Distributing,
• 30:40
Speaker 17: gave me my first ticket and I was working for
• 30:43
Speaker 17: red Bull North America at the time, and it was
• 30:46
Speaker 17: my first event attending Girls' night Out. It was up
• 30:48
Speaker 17: at the old former Clinbing Campbell Sunrise Museum and I
• 30:52
Speaker 17: arrived donated some red Bull was totally consumed with how
• 30:56
Speaker 17: the women came together and the camaraderie to make a
• 30:59
Speaker 17: difference in our community. It was such a strong impact
• 31:02
Speaker 17: on me that I am now still involved twenty years later.
• 31:05
Speaker 4: I was going to say, what was the timeframe when
• 31:07
Speaker 4: it twenty years ago?
• 31:07
Speaker 17: Twenty years ago? Yeah, it really touched my heart. The
• 31:10
Speaker 17: women really embraced me. It's a program that's well needed
• 31:14
Speaker 17: in our area, especially in West Virginia. Domestic balance is
• 31:17
Speaker 17: so prevalent right now, especially with the economy. You know,
• 31:19
Speaker 17: most arguments and things like that happened from you know,
• 31:23
Speaker 17: money paying the bills, and so I just felt like,
• 31:27
Speaker 17: you know, what an impact I could make if I
• 31:30
Speaker 17: just started being more involved and just every year I
• 31:32
Speaker 17: would be more and more involved. When I was with
• 31:34
Speaker 17: Nhezer Bush and then of course with bridgro Pistro, and
• 31:37
Speaker 17: now just doing it because it's in my heart. I
• 31:40
Speaker 17: believe I've wove it through my life. You know, everywhere
• 31:43
Speaker 17: I go I talk about it. I try to get
• 31:45
Speaker 17: food vendors, people involved. If you don't even go, just
• 31:48
Speaker 17: get online at YWCA Charleston dot org and donate. You know,
• 31:52
Speaker 17: we're just out here trying to give everyone a hands up,
• 31:55
Speaker 17: you know, men, women. We even have a place for
• 31:58
Speaker 17: children and pets, you know, because folks they threaten to
• 32:02
Speaker 17: harm the pets. You know, if you leave, I'm going
• 32:04
Speaker 17: to harm you know, little spot. So we want you
• 32:07
Speaker 17: to have a place to bring your pets in our
• 32:09
  Speaker 17: secret shelter.
• 32:11
Speaker 4: And there are so many things that go into this
• 32:13
Speaker 4: that people. I mean, obviously you hear the words letters
• 32:16
Speaker 4: why you know YWCA, and you think about a few
• 32:17
Speaker 4: of the things that they do. But some things that
• 32:20
Speaker 4: the organization does that I wasn't even aware of until
• 32:23
Speaker 4: I started hosting folks like yourself, Marrily McAuliffe and others
• 32:26
Speaker 4: come in and talking about this and seeing some of
• 32:27
Speaker 4: the TV interviews with various people. One of those things
• 32:31
Speaker 4: is sometimes there needs to be safe spaces for meetups, indeed,
• 32:37
Speaker 4: for child transfers or something like that.
• 32:39
Speaker 17: Talk about that, Well, the McDonald's is not working anymore,
• 32:42
Speaker 17: So we offer a safe space for you to come
• 32:44
Speaker 17: and transfer your children's You don't have to go out
• 32:47
Speaker 17: into the public. It's just a safe space. We also
• 32:50
Speaker 17: have advocates that help you with the courts system. You know,
• 32:52
Speaker 17: it can be confusing, it can be overwhelming, and we
• 32:55
Speaker 17: have folks that can really help you fill out that
• 32:57
Speaker 17: sixteen page form and go to the those you know,
• 33:01
Speaker 17: court scenarios where you need support, you know, and a
• 33:04
Speaker 17: lot of folks are not knowing what to do. And
• 33:08
Speaker 17: so we have advocates out there helping these folks. You know,
• 33:11
Speaker 17: they actually can come and get them, you know, give
• 33:13
Speaker 17: them advice, get them back on their feet. We have
• 33:16
Speaker 17: a wonderful shelter that we raise these funds for that
• 33:19
Speaker 17: goes you know. We just put in new AC units.
• 33:21
Speaker 17: We have vehicles that we have to provide insurance for.
• 33:24
Speaker 17: We have salaries we need to pay for these folks
• 33:26
Speaker 17: at the YWCA. So there's a lot of things that
• 33:29
Speaker 17: the budget is needed for. And girls ride out. We
• 33:32
Speaker 17: fill a lot of that budget with the funds we raise.
• 33:34
Speaker 4: It's amazing all the things that go into that. Like
• 33:36
Speaker 4: I said, you may think of one or two things
• 33:38
Speaker 4: on the top of your head, but there are so
• 33:39
Speaker 4: many other things and other programs and services that the
• 33:42
Speaker 4: organization offers. But it all costs money.
• 33:45
Speaker 3: It does it does.
• 33:46
Speaker 17: They help on average eighteen to two thousand people eighteen
• 33:50
Speaker 17: hundred to two thousand people a year, you know, go
• 33:52
Speaker 17: through our system. So it's a very important event. And
• 33:55
Speaker 17: the more the merrier, and we have slid auction items,
• 33:58
Speaker 17: food vendors, you know, all the things at our event tomorrow,
• 34:01
Speaker 17: so we're super excited about it. Tickets are still for sale.
• 34:04
Speaker 17: You can go on my w CAA Charleston dot org
• 34:07
Speaker 17: and still get your tickets. We're still taking sponsorships. And
• 34:10
Speaker 17: you know, if it's not for you, if this event's
• 34:11
Speaker 17: not for you and you just don't want to go
• 34:13
Speaker 17: out you're not into it, you're more than welcome to
• 34:15
Speaker 17: go online and donate whatever you wish. We really welcome
• 34:18
Speaker 17: anything you have, especially with the economy right now, you know,
• 34:21
Speaker 17: we're just needing those numbers to hit, you know, every
• 34:24
Speaker 17: year to keep this program going so we can keep
• 34:27
Speaker 17: those safe places, you know, and.
• 34:28
Speaker 4: This event, Sandy has become one of the premier Charleston
• 34:33
Speaker 4: and Kanaw Valley events. You know, there's those four or
• 34:35
Speaker 4: five things that you think about every year, you know,
• 34:38
Speaker 4: I think about the Dancing with the Stars thing with
• 34:40
Speaker 4: the United Way, or or of course for Gotta and
• 34:42
Speaker 4: some of the big events like that. But this forra
• 34:44
Speaker 4: one night event, this has become one of those iconic
• 34:48
  Speaker 4: things for Charleston.
• 34:48
Speaker 16: Oh my gosh, thank you so much. That's just music
• 34:51
  Speaker 16: to my ear.
• 34:51
Speaker 4: Well, I mean, you know it's been going on as
• 34:53
Speaker 4: long as it has and it's kind of one of
• 34:55
Speaker 4: those things too where you could kind of look at
• 34:57
Speaker 4: your calendar and see where we are in summer, you know,
• 35:00
Speaker 4: when Girls Not Out.
• 35:01
Speaker 17: Has Indeed, Yeah, we try to schedule it about the
• 35:04
Speaker 17: first or second week of August every year, you know,
• 35:07
Speaker 17: let the kids get settled back in with their sports
• 35:10
Speaker 17: and getting ready to go back to school, you know,
• 35:11
Speaker 17: the vacations are ending. We try to be accommodating to
• 35:14
Speaker 17: most women so they can attend you know, this event
• 35:16
Speaker 17: and have some camaraderie with other women. And you know,
• 35:19
Speaker 17: it's not all about the theme either. You know, you
• 35:22
Speaker 17: can come as you are, you can feel all dolled
• 35:24
Speaker 17: up and fatigues you can feel all dolled.
• 35:25
Speaker 4: Up, however you feel dolled up.
• 35:27
Speaker 16: Indeed, indeed, just come, you know, have a good time
• 35:30
  Speaker 16: with them.
• 35:31
Speaker 4: It's very much and you gotta admit though that. I mean,
• 35:33
Speaker 4: people look forward to this theme indeed every year, and
• 35:36
Speaker 4: this year it's all dolled up and merely tells me
• 35:38
Speaker 4: it was based on I guess a little bit of
• 35:41
Speaker 4: the Barbie movie and the whole thing. Let's talk about that.
• 35:44
Speaker 17: Yep, we we were dancing around the idea of the
• 35:47
Speaker 17: Barbie theme, but of course it's trademark, so we had
• 35:49
Speaker 17: to be very very very careful how we walked around that.
• 35:53
Speaker 17: So we use the little font and basically it's more
• 35:56
Speaker 17: welcoming to anyone that wants to come. You know, you
• 35:59
Speaker 17: can be all all up in pink. I know, Marrily's
• 36:01
Speaker 17: got a cute little dress coming and we're all excited
• 36:04
Speaker 17: about it. You know, it's just a really good time
• 36:05
Speaker 17: to get together with your friends once a year at least.
• 36:08
Speaker 4: But if you don't want to do the all, you
• 36:10
Speaker 4: can just show up. I mean, they're not going to
• 36:12
Speaker 4: turn anybody away and volunteer.
• 36:14
Speaker 17: You know, we love volunteers. Volunteers help make this all
• 36:16
Speaker 17: come together. You know, of course you're looking at one
• 36:19
Speaker 17: right here. I don't, you know, get any funds. I
• 36:21
Speaker 17: enjoyed doing it. It's in my heart, it's what I
• 36:23
Speaker 17: want to do. So, yeah, we love volunteers.
• 36:25
Speaker 4: The men are allowed, but if they're gonna men are
• 36:27
Speaker 4: going to come, they're going to have to work right.
• 36:29
Speaker 17: Indeed, they need to go online, and we make sure
• 36:32
Speaker 17: we do a background check, you know, because we don't
• 36:34
Speaker 17: want any instances where we've had in the past where
• 36:37
Speaker 17: passive users have used fake names and gotten into our
• 36:41
Speaker 17: event and kind of made a less of things. Yes, yes,
• 36:44
Speaker 17: it's gone that far as literally as last year. So
• 36:47
Speaker 17: we do do background checks. We make sure that we
• 36:50
Speaker 17: have proper security for the ladies. We want them to
• 36:52
Speaker 17: feel safe at the event.
• 36:54
Speaker 4: And again it's at the Cattle Seeman Convention Center, and
• 36:56
Speaker 4: it's been I think at a couple of different places,
• 36:59
Speaker 4: as you mentioned. I was at the one on the
• 37:00
Speaker 4: Capitols a couple of years ago. Yeah, I was one
• 37:03
Speaker 4: of the volunteers for that. It was at the Culture
• 37:05
Speaker 4: Center that was there. But I think there's probably no
• 37:08
Speaker 4: better place to have it. In my opinion than the
• 37:09
Speaker 4: coliseum and convention solf.
• 37:11
  Speaker 16: Indeed, we're spoiled.
• 37:12
Speaker 17: We have ac we're protected, we're inside security, parking, all
• 37:15
  Speaker 17: the things.
• 37:15
Speaker 4: And once people are there, as you said, a variety
• 37:18
Speaker 4: of different things, all kinds of food. Yes, indeed you
• 37:21
Speaker 4: have my interest when you talk about the food.
• 37:23
Speaker 17: Oh yes, And I need to brag on them please,
• 37:26
Speaker 17: because you know these restaurants they really need supported.
• 37:28
Speaker 16: We have the Great Venetian down in Milton.
• 37:30
Speaker 17: They're on board for the first time this year with
• 37:33
Speaker 17: their Italian concept LeBlanc. We have bricks and barrels on
• 37:37
Speaker 17: board and I just learned this this year. Those folks
• 37:40
Speaker 17: over there just brought smoking rolling smoke, so they're bringing
• 37:43
Speaker 17: their barbecue concept as well. And we have Sergio's the
• 37:47
Speaker 17: talk of the town. You know, he's he's coming on
• 37:50
Speaker 17: board with his great Italian concept. And he also is
• 37:52
Speaker 17: bringing on Guadalara, his Mexican restaurant concept, which he's got
• 37:55
Speaker 17: a new one opening in Barbersville.
• 37:57
  Speaker 4: To Tanied Station.
• 37:58
Speaker 17: I think, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's uh, it's pretty some
• 38:02
Speaker 17: exciting stuff. We have Chick fil A on board, great, great,
• 38:05
Speaker 17: great company. They support our volunteers every year. They do
• 38:08
Speaker 17: all the things, Texas Roadhouse for the first time, bar
• 38:11
Speaker 17: one oh one, them three brothers. My girl actually over there,
• 38:14
Speaker 17: she's doing amazing things. Valley Cakes down in PoCA. They're
• 38:18
Speaker 17: on board this year. Girl Scout Cookies, Shape Shop, and
• 38:21
Speaker 17: Embassy Suites. We've got a great lineup this year with
• 38:24
Speaker 17: Little Caesars, all the things. We could not do this
• 38:27
Speaker 17: without our community pulling together for us. Dave, and thank
• 38:30
Speaker 17: you so much for what you do for our event
• 38:32
  Speaker 17: as well well.
• 38:33
Speaker 4: And I know this is not all about Sandy, but
• 38:35
Speaker 4: you know, but no, no, totally unrelated to this event.
• 38:38
Speaker 4: You know what, I'm gonna ask you, what do you
• 38:40
Speaker 4: what do you do in zan I'm gonna I'm gonna
• 38:42
Speaker 4: ask you. I'm gonna ask you is it? Are you
• 38:45
Speaker 4: missing it? Are you missing the restaurant thing?
• 38:47
  Speaker 7: No?
• 38:48
  Speaker 3: I have a love.
• 38:49
Speaker 16: She has a little little PTSD in the morning. Sometimes
• 38:52
Speaker 16: I did. I think I'm enjoying my little sabbatical.
• 38:55
  Speaker 8: But who knows.
• 38:56
Speaker 17: I may jump back in the pool, but right now
• 38:58
Speaker 17: I'm just kind of enjoying the God Dot and my husband.
• 39:01
Speaker 4: And you'll get back in it one way or the other.
• 39:04
Speaker 16: You'll hear news. You'll hear news. Don't worry, but.
• 39:07
Speaker 4: Enjoy your time away. All right, So let's talk about
• 39:09
Speaker 4: again where people can learn more. Give us the website.
• 39:11
Speaker 4: Tickets are still available, donations, the.
• 39:13

• 44:56
Speaker 6: Cage will be popping up and we have DJ EJ
• 45:00
  Speaker 6: of course.
• 45:01
Speaker 4: That guy is everywhere.
• 45:02
Speaker 6: He's awesome, is awesome.
• 45:04
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think he's doing girls not out, Girls not out.
• 45:07
Speaker 6: That guy's everywhere. Yeah, he's everywhere, just like Sandy. Sandy
• 45:10
Speaker 6: calls everywhere. But yeah, the event's gonna be great. We
• 45:14
Speaker 6: are have some great sponsors. Betterhams and Garden is our
• 45:19
Speaker 6: biggest sponsor. Again, you know, Josh McGrath are our broker,
• 45:24
Speaker 6: is great at what he does in the community and
• 45:28
Speaker 6: support ours agents and everything. So we also have in
• 45:32
Speaker 6: Cova is one of our other sponsors. Best Title, Mark
• 45:38
Speaker 6: Slotnik and Bailey and Whyatt. They're great. If you need
• 45:42
Speaker 6: to close on a house or something, they are the
• 45:45
Speaker 6: people to do it. Also we have Fife Street will
• 45:49
Speaker 6: be out there and Johnny Thompson with Ian J. Thompson,
• 45:56
Speaker 6: Heaty and Cooling is one of our other sponsors. They're
• 45:59
Speaker 6: great people. His lovely wife Elizabeth just they do a
• 46:04
Speaker 6: lot of things in the community. Louis Payne is another
• 46:08
Speaker 6: one with Dickinson Salt Works. Uh, he's great in the
• 46:13
Speaker 6: community too, and his lovely wife page. Uh. They're constantly
• 46:17
Speaker 6: doing something, you know, to help others. He's also a
• 46:21
Speaker 6: great friend. Just I love these people. When they you
• 46:25
Speaker 6: ask him for something, they're right in there to jump
• 46:28
Speaker 6: in there and help.
• 46:29
Speaker 4: So, you know, a lot of people again coming out
• 46:32
Speaker 4: for this thing. I want to talk about West Virginia
• 46:33
Speaker 4: State a little bit. That's your that's your alma mater.
• 46:35
Speaker 4: I mean I think you said, and uh, you and
• 46:37
Speaker 4: Sandy were actually talking to the green room. You and
• 46:39
Speaker 4: Sandy Call were there together.
• 46:41
Speaker 6: We had a speech communication class which was hilarious.
• 46:45
Speaker 4: I was gonna say we neither one of you had
• 46:46
Speaker 4: had trouble with that class. I'm sure, I'm sure, but
• 46:48
Speaker 4: they did did fine with that class. But but West
• 46:51
Speaker 4: Virginia State, I mean, I have doctor Cage on the show,
• 46:54
Speaker 4: you know, like once a month or so, just talk
• 46:57
Speaker 4: about the different things going on there. It's really a
• 46:58
Speaker 4: special place here in West Virginia with a whole lot
• 47:01
Speaker 4: of folks that went that went to that institution.
• 47:04
Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean President Cage is doing a great job,
• 47:08
Speaker 6: you know, raising money and supporting my Actually my dad
• 47:12
Speaker 6: went there in nineteen fifty four. Really yeah, So and
• 47:17
Speaker 6: then I went in eighty nine of my age a
• 47:20
Speaker 6: little bit, but that's.
• 47:21
Speaker 4: That's why I was in college at that time too.
• 47:22
Speaker 6: Go ahead, But yeah, the atmosphere there was great. You
• 47:28
Speaker 6: know the campus I was. I loved it there. It's
• 47:31
Speaker 6: very beautiful there and got a great education.
• 47:35
Speaker 4: And specifically, when you're raising money for this at this
• 47:38
Speaker 4: golf outing, which is going to be Monday, Sleepy Hollow, weird,
• 47:40
Speaker 4: does that money go, It'll.
• 47:42
Speaker 6: Go to the golf program. Right now, we're trying to
• 47:45
Speaker 6: get enough money to have assimilator so when the students
• 47:49
Speaker 6: are on campus they can come and use that. I
• 47:52
Speaker 6: would like. The long goal was that open it up
• 47:55
Speaker 6: and down the road. Does even let like middle school
• 47:58
Speaker 6: and high school first Tea program, you know, to come
• 48:02
Speaker 6: and use the facility. So I'm looking at a building
• 48:05
Speaker 6: and you know, really out reach out to the community
• 48:10
Speaker 6: for you know, the use.
• 48:12
Speaker 4: I've had people from that first Tea program on the
• 48:14
  Speaker 4: show in the past, and it's a great it's a
• 48:16
Speaker 4: wonderful program, and it's designed to try to get kids
• 48:20
Speaker 4: involved in golf. And it's designed not to get how
• 48:24
Speaker 4: can I say this, make it politically correct, not just
• 48:26
Speaker 4: to get what you think of when you think of golfers.
• 48:28
Speaker 4: They're really working like what otherwise would be disadvantaged kids
• 48:32
Speaker 4: to try to get them to pick up the sport.
• 48:35
Speaker 6: Yeah, Jeff, the directors does a great job. The teachers
• 48:39
Speaker 6: they have out there, you know, Chuck Rose and Sarah,
• 48:44
Speaker 6: they're just I'm amazed by it. And they have great
• 48:47
Speaker 6: numbers out there. A lot of kids come out there.
• 48:50
  Speaker 6: They have a women's program out there. It's a very
• 48:53
Speaker 6: good program. I enjoy helping them.
• 48:56
Speaker 4: Yeah. And again we're talking with Sonny Anderson here from
• 49:00
Speaker 4: I was gonna say from West Virginia State. But you're
• 49:02
Speaker 4: not technically, you're just raising money for West Virginia State,
• 49:04
  Speaker 4: right right, right?
• 49:06
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 49:06
Speaker 4: Yeah, but Dave Alan Chilling five any Lie Bright too
• 49:09
Speaker 4: part by Morgan to Oregon, America's largest injury law firm.
• 49:12
Speaker 6: So you a golfer yourself, Yes, And actually I am
• 49:15
Speaker 6: the golf coach at West Virginia State, right.
• 49:17
  Speaker 7: I knew that?
• 49:18
Speaker 4: Why did I'm sorry? Yeah, I actually knew that. I
• 49:20
Speaker 4: actually forgot that. I know the state had a golf program.
• 49:25
Speaker 6: I it was off and on. But I've been the
• 49:28
Speaker 6: golf coach for about seven years now. Yeah, when I
• 49:31
Speaker 6: went in eighty nine, of course, they didn't have it then.
• 49:34
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 49:35
Speaker 6: And I was actually sitting at a basketball game and
• 49:41
Speaker 6: at that time was Sean Lloyd and he was the
• 49:46
Speaker 6: acting athletic director and baseball coach, and he was complaining
• 49:51
Speaker 6: that he didn't have a coach. And I turned around,
• 49:53
Speaker 6: I was like, I can do that. He is ad
• 49:56
Speaker 6: come in and he hired me the next day and
• 49:58
Speaker 6: I've been the coach since.
• 50:00
Speaker 4: Is this I mean part of the I guess the
• 50:01
Speaker 4: whole Mountain Conference thing. And you play the other schools
• 50:04
Speaker 4: in West Virginia primarily.
• 50:05
Speaker 6: We have about ten in that conference and you know
• 50:10
Speaker 6: U S and it's probably the most dominant in there.
• 50:14
Speaker 6: But I think we'll catch them here sooner or later.
• 50:17
Speaker 4: Has the challenge been lady been thrown down? Sonny? Is
• 50:19
Speaker 4: that what you're saying?
• 50:20
Speaker 6: Yeah, that's right. Will Johnson as their coach.
• 50:22
Speaker 10: I'm always on him.
• 50:25
Speaker 6: With my program. We do have a lot of local talent.
• 50:29
Speaker 6: I have kids from Herbert Hoover, Capital Point, Pleasant, Saint
• 50:34
Speaker 6: Albans and Nitro. So I love recruiting local kids.
• 50:39
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll give them something to do and plus getting
• 50:41
Speaker 4: an education too is and that's West Virginia State I
• 50:44
Speaker 4: think just does as you mentioned Eric Cage and the
• 50:47
Speaker 4: fantastic things that they do there. I mean, it's just
• 50:50
  Speaker 4: they've they's always been a great institution, Sonny, but it's
• 50:53
Speaker 4: grown so much under him. It's just a wonderful place.
• 50:55
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 50:55
Speaker 6: He's added you know, programs to it, doctor and programs,
• 51:00
  Speaker 6: and he's.
• 51:00
Speaker 4: Doing good to get that School of Agriculture finally too,
• 51:02
Speaker 4: which is what it was all based on to begin with.
• 51:05
Speaker 6: Yeah, when my dad went, he you could take your
• 51:08
Speaker 6: pilot's license. Oh really, Yeah, yeah, it's pretty neat.
• 51:12
