Speaker 1: The lesson of evil. Unrest, and pain and sorrow are
• 0:05
Speaker 1: the shadows of life. There is no heart in all
• 0:09
Speaker 1: the world that has not felt the sting of pain,
• 0:13
Speaker 1: no mind that has not been tossed upon the dark
• 0:16
Speaker 1: waters of trouble, no eye that has not wept the hot,
• 0:20
Speaker 1: blinding tears of unspeakable anguish. There is no household where
• 0:26
Speaker 1: the great destroyers disease and death have not entered, severing
• 0:32
Speaker 1: heart from heart, and casting over all the dark pall
• 0:36
Speaker 1: of sorrow, in the strong and apparently indestructible meshes of evil.
• 0:43
Speaker 1: All are more or less fast caught and pain, unhappiness,
• 0:48
Speaker 1: and misfortune wait upon mankind with the object of escaping
• 0:55
Speaker 1: or in some way mitigating the overshadowing gloom. Men and
• 0:59
Speaker 1: women and rush blindly into innumerable devices pathways by which
• 1:04
Speaker 1: they fondly hope to enter into a happiness which will
• 1:08
Speaker 1: not pass away. Such are the drunkard and the harlot,
• 1:12
Speaker 1: who revel and sensual excitements. Such is the exclusive esthete,
• 1:18
Speaker 1: who shuts himself out from the sorrows of the world
• 1:21
Speaker 1: and surrounds himself with enervating luxuries. Such is he who
• 1:26
Speaker 1: thirst for wealth or fame, and subordinates all things to
• 1:30
Speaker 1: the achievement of that object. And such are they who
• 1:34
Speaker 1: seek consolation in the performance of religious rites, and to
• 1:39
Speaker 1: all the happiness sought seems to come, and the soul
• 1:43
Speaker 1: for a time is lulled into a sweet security and
• 1:47
Speaker 1: an intoxicating forgetfulness of the existence of evil. But the
• 1:52
Speaker 1: day of disease comes at last, or some great sorrow, temptation,
• 1:58
Speaker 1: or misfortune breaks suddenly in on the unfortified soul, and
• 2:03
Speaker 1: the fabric of its fancied happiness is torn to shreds.
• 2:08
Speaker 1: So over the head of every personal joy hangs the
• 2:12
Speaker 1: democlets sword of pain, ready at any moment to fall
• 2:16
Speaker 1: and crush the soul of him who is unprotected by knowledge.
• 2:21
Speaker 1: The child cries to be a man or woman. The
• 2:25
Speaker 1: man and woman sigh for the lost felicity of childhood.
• 2:29
Speaker 1: The poor man chafes under the chains of poverty by
• 2:33
Speaker 1: which he is bound, and the rich man often lives
• 2:37
Speaker 1: in the fear of poverty, or scours the world in
• 2:40
Speaker 1: search of an elusive shadow he calls happiness. Sometimes the
• 2:45
Speaker 1: soul feels that it has found a secure peace and
• 2:48
Speaker 1: happiness in adopting a certain religion. In embracing an intellectual philosophy,
• 2:55
Speaker 1: or in building up an intellectual or artistic ideal, But
• 3:00
Speaker 1: some overpowering temptation proves the religion to be inadequate or insufficient,
• 3:06
Speaker 1: the theoretical philosophy is found to be a useless prop
• 3:10
Speaker 1: or in a moment, the idealistic statue upon which the
• 3:14
Speaker 1: devotee has for years been laboring is shattered into fragments
• 3:19
Speaker 1: at his feet. Is there then no way of escape
• 3:24
Speaker 1: from pain and sorrow? Are there no means by which
• 3:27
Speaker 1: bonds of evil may be broken? Is permanent happiness, secure
• 3:32
Speaker 1: prosperity and abiding peace a foolish dream? No, there is
• 3:39
Speaker 1: a way, and I speak it with gladness, by which
• 3:42
Speaker 1: evil can be slain forever. There is a process by
• 3:46
Speaker 1: which disease, poverty, or any adverse condition or circumstance can
• 3:52
Speaker 1: be put on one side, never to return. There is
• 3:56
Speaker 1: a method by which a permanent prosperity can be secured,
• 4:00
Speaker 1: free from all fear of the return of adversity. And
• 4:03
Speaker 1: there is a practice by which unbroken and unending peace
• 4:08
Speaker 1: and bliss can be partaken of and realized. And the
• 4:12
Speaker 1: beginning of the way which leads to this glorious realization
• 4:17
Speaker 1: is the acquirement of a right understanding of the nature
• 4:20
Speaker 1: of evil. It is not sufficient to deny or ignore evil.
• 4:25
Speaker 1: It must be understood. It is not enough to pray
• 4:29
Speaker 1: to God to remove the evil. You must find out
• 4:32
Speaker 1: why it is there and what lesson it has for you.
• 4:37
Speaker 1: It is of no avail to fret and fume and
• 4:40
Speaker 1: chafe at the chains which bind you. You must know
• 4:43
Speaker 1: why and how you are bound. Therefore, reader, you must
• 4:48
Speaker 1: get outside yourself and must begin to examine and understand yourself.
• 4:54
Speaker 1: You must cease to be a disobedient child in the
• 4:57
Speaker 1: school of experience, and must begin to learn with humility
• 5:01
Speaker 1: and patience the lessons that are set for your edification
• 5:05
Speaker 1: and ultimate perfection. For evil, when rightly understood, is found
• 5:11
Speaker 1: to be not an unlimited power or principle in the universe,
• 5:16
Speaker 1: but a passing phase of human experience, and it therefore
• 5:19
Speaker 1: becomes a teacher to those who are willing to learn.
• 5:24
Speaker 1: Evil is not an abstract something outside yourself. It is
• 5:28
Speaker 1: an experience in your own heart, and by patiently examining
• 5:33
Speaker 1: and rectifying your heart, you will be gradually led into
• 5:36
Speaker 1: the discovery of the origin and nature of evil, which
• 5:40
Speaker 1: will necessarily be followed by its complete eradication. All evil
• 5:46
Speaker 1: is corrective and remedial, and is therefore not permanent. It
• 5:51
Speaker 1: is rooted in ignorance, ignorance of the true nature and
• 5:54
Speaker 1: relation of things, And so long as we remain in
• 5:58
Speaker 1: that state of ignorance, we remain subject to evil. There
• 6:02
Speaker 1: is no evil in the universe which is not the
• 6:05
Speaker 1: result of ignorance, and which would not if we were
• 6:09
Speaker 1: ready and willing to learn its lesson lead us to
• 6:12
Speaker 1: higher wisdom and then vanish away. But men remain in evil,
• 6:18
Speaker 1: and it does not pass away because men are not
• 6:21
Speaker 1: willing or prepared to learn the lesson which it came
• 6:24
Speaker 1: to teach them. I knew a child who, every night,
• 6:28
Speaker 1: when its mother took it to bed, cried to be
• 6:31
Speaker 1: allowed to play with the candle. And one night, when
• 6:34
Speaker 1: the mother was off guard for a moment, the child
• 6:37
Speaker 1: took hold of the candle. The inevitable result followed, and
• 6:41
Speaker 1: the child never wished to play with the candle again.
• 6:45
Speaker 1: By its one foolish act, it learned and learned perfectly
• 6:49
Speaker 1: the lesson of obedience, and entered into the knowledge that
• 6:53
Speaker 1: fire burns. And this incident is a complete illustration of
• 6:58
Speaker 1: the nature an ultimate result of all sin and evil.
• 7:04
Speaker 1: As the child suffered through its own ignorance of the
• 7:07
Speaker 1: real nature of fire, so older children suffer through their
• 7:11
Speaker 1: ignorance of the real nature of the things which they
• 7:14
Speaker 1: weep for and strive after, and which harm them when
• 7:18
Speaker 1: they are secured, the only difference being that in the
• 7:22
Speaker 1: latter case the ignorance and evil are more deeply rooted
• 7:26
Speaker 1: and obscure. Evil has always been symbolized by darkness, and
• 7:32
Speaker 1: good by light, and hidden within the symbol is contained
• 7:36
Speaker 1: the perfect interpretation the reality. For just as light always
• 7:41
Speaker 1: floods the universe and darkness is only a mere speck
• 7:44
Speaker 1: or shadow cast by a small body intercepting a few
• 7:48
Speaker 1: rays of the illimitable light, so the light of the
• 7:52
Speaker 1: supreme Good is the positive and life giving power which
• 7:56
Speaker 1: floods the universe, and evil the insect magnificant shadow cast
• 8:01
Speaker 1: by the self that intercepts and shuts off the illuminating
• 8:05
Speaker 1: rays which strive for entrance. When night folds the world
• 8:10
Speaker 1: in its black, impenetrable mantle, no matter how dense the
• 8:14
Speaker 1: darkness it covers, but the small space of half our
• 8:18
Speaker 1: little planet, while the whole universe is ablaze with living light,
• 8:23
Speaker 1: and every soul knows that it will awake in the
• 8:25
Speaker 1: light in the morning. Know then, that when the dark
• 8:30
Speaker 1: night of sorrow, pain or misfortune settles down upon your
• 8:34
Speaker 1: soul and you stumble along with weary and uncertain steps,
• 8:38
Speaker 1: that you are merely intercepting your own personal desires between
• 8:43
Speaker 1: yourself and the boundless light of joy and bliss. And
• 8:47
Speaker 1: the dark shadow that covers you is cast by none
• 8:50
Speaker 1: and nothing but yourself. And just as the darkness without
• 8:56
Speaker 1: is but a negative shadow, an unreality, which comes from nowhere,
• 9:01
Speaker 1: goes to nowhere and has no abiding dwelling place, so
• 9:05
Speaker 1: the darkness within is equally a negative shadow passing over
• 9:10
Speaker 1: the evolving and light born soul. But I fancy I
• 9:14
Speaker 1: hear someone say, why pass through the darkness of evil
• 9:18
Speaker 1: at all? Because by ignorance you have chosen to do so,
• 9:24
Speaker 1: and because by doing so you may understand both good
• 9:28
Speaker 1: and evil, and may the more appreciate the light by
• 9:32
Speaker 1: having passed through the darkness. As evil is the direct
• 9:36
Speaker 1: outcome of ignorance, so when the lessons of evil are
• 9:40
Speaker 1: fully learned, ignorance passes away and wisdom takes its place.
• 9:46
Speaker 1: But as a disobedient child refuses to learn its lessons
• 9:49
Speaker 1: at school. So it is possible to refuse to learn
• 9:53
Speaker 1: the lessons of experience, and thus to remain in continual darkness,
• 9:58
Speaker 1: and to suffer continue recurring punishments in the form of disease, disappointment,
• 10:05
Speaker 1: and sorrow. He, therefore, who would shake himself free of
• 10:09
Speaker 1: the evil which encompasses him, must be willing and ready
• 10:13
Speaker 1: to learn, and must be prepared to undergo that disciplinary process,
• 10:19
Speaker 1: without which no grain of wisdom or abiding happiness and
• 10:23
Speaker 1: peace can be secured. A man may shut himself up
• 10:27
Speaker 1: in a dark room and deny that the light exists,
• 10:31
Speaker 1: but it is everywhere without and darkness exists only in
• 10:36
Speaker 1: his own little room. So you may shut out the
• 10:39
Speaker 1: light of truth, or you may begin to pull down
• 10:42
Speaker 1: the walls of prejudice, self seeking, and error which you
• 10:46
Speaker 1: have built around yourself, and so let in the glorious
• 10:50
Speaker 1: and omnipresent light. By earnest self examination. Strive to realize,
• 10:57
Speaker 1: and not merely hold as a theory, that evil is
• 11:00
Speaker 1: a passing phase, a self created shadow. That all your pains, sorrows,
• 11:06
Speaker 1: and misfortunes have come to you by a process of
• 11:09
Speaker 1: undeviating an absolutely perfect law, have come to you because
• 11:14
Speaker 1: you deserve and require them, and that by first enduring
• 11:18
Speaker 1: and then understanding them, you may be made stronger, wiser, nobler.
• 11:25
Speaker 1: When you have fully entered into this realization, you will
• 11:28
Speaker 1: be in a position to mold your own circumstances, to
• 11:32
Speaker 1: transmute all evil into good, and to weave with a
• 11:37
Speaker 1: master hand the fabric of your destiny. What of the night,
• 11:42
Speaker 1: O watchman, seest thou, Yet the glimmering dawn upon the
• 11:46
Speaker 1: mountain heights, the golden herald of the light of lights
• 11:51
Speaker 1: are his fair feet upon the hilltops? Set cometh he
• 11:56
Speaker 1: yet to chase away the gloom, and with it all
• 11:59
Speaker 1: the demons of the night. Strike. Yet his darting rays
• 12:03
Speaker 1: upon thy sight. Hearest thou his voice the sound of
• 12:08
Speaker 1: error's doom. The morning cometh, lover of the light. Even
• 12:13
Speaker 1: now he gilds with gold the mountain's brow. Dimly I
• 12:18
Speaker 1: see the path whereon, even now his shining feet are
• 12:22
Speaker 1: set toward the night. Darkness shall pass away, and all
• 12:27
Speaker 1: the things that love the darkness and that hate the
• 12:30
Speaker 1: light shall disappear forever with the night. Rejoice, for thus
• 12:36
Speaker 1: the speeding herald sings the world. A reflex of mental
• 12:41
Speaker 1: states what you are, so is your world. Everything in
• 12:47
Speaker 1: the universe is resolved into your own inward experience. It
• 12:53
Speaker 1: matters little what is without, for it is all a
• 12:56
Speaker 1: reflection of your own state of consciousness. It matters everything
• 13:01
Speaker 1: what you are within, for everything without will be mirrored
• 13:06
Speaker 1: and colored accordingly. All that you positively know is contained
• 13:12
Speaker 1: in your own experience. All that you will ever know
• 13:16
Speaker 1: must pass through the gateway of experience, and so become
• 13:20
Speaker 1: part of yourself. Your own thoughts, desires, and aspirations comprise
• 13:27
Speaker 1: your world, and to you, all that there is in
• 13:31
Speaker 1: the universe, of beauty and joy and bliss, or of
• 13:34
Speaker 1: ugliness and sorrow and pain, is contained within yourself. By
• 13:40
Speaker 1: your own thoughts, you make or mar your life, your world,
• 13:44
Speaker 1: your universe. As you build within by the power of thought,
• 13:49
Speaker 1: so will your outward life and circumstances shape themselves accordingly.
• 13:55
Speaker 1: Whatsoever you harbor in the inmost chambers of your heart will,
• 14:00
Speaker 1: sooner or later, by the inevitable law of reaction, shape
• 14:05
Speaker 1: itself in your outward life. The soul that is impure, sordid,
• 14:10
Speaker 1: and selfish is gravitating with unerring precision toward misfortune and catastrophe.
• 14:18
Speaker 1: The soul that is pure, unselfish, and noble, is gravitating
• 14:22
Speaker 1: with equal precision toward happiness and prosperity. Every soul attracts
• 14:29
Speaker 1: its own and nothing can possibly come to it that
• 14:33
Speaker 1: does not belong to it. To realize this is to
• 14:37
Speaker 1: recognize the universality of divine law. The incidents of every
• 14:43
Speaker 1: human life, which both make and mar are drawn to
• 14:47
Speaker 1: it by the quality and power of its own inner
• 14:50
Speaker 1: thought life. Every soul is a complex combination of gathered
• 14:56
Speaker 1: experiences and thoughts, and the body is but in improvised
• 15:00
Speaker 1: vehicle for its manifestation. What therefore your thoughts are? That
• 15:06
Speaker 1: is your real self and the world around, both inanimate
• 15:11
Speaker 1: and inanimate. Where's the aspect with which your thoughts clothe it?
• 15:17
Speaker 1: All that we are is the result of what we
• 15:19
Speaker 1: have thought. It is founded on our thoughts. It is
• 15:23
Speaker 1: made up of our thoughts, Thus said Buddha. And it
• 15:27
Speaker 1: therefore follows that if a man is happy, it is
• 15:31
Speaker 1: because he dwells in happy thoughts, if miserable, because he
• 15:36
Speaker 1: dwells in despondent and dehabilitating thoughts. Whether one be fearful
• 15:42
Speaker 1: or fearless, foolish or wise troubled, or serene within that
• 15:47
Speaker 1: soul lies the cause of its own state or states,
• 15:51
Speaker 1: and never without. And now I seem to hear a
• 15:55
Speaker 1: chorus of voices exclaim, but do you really mean to
• 15:59
Speaker 1: say that outward circumstances do not affect our minds? I
• 16:04
Speaker 1: do not say that. But I say this and know
• 16:08
Speaker 1: it to be an infallible truth, that circumstances can only
• 16:12
Speaker 1: affect you in so far as you allow them to
• 16:15
Speaker 1: do so. You are swayed by circumstances because you have
• 16:20
Speaker 1: not a right understanding of the nature, use, and power
• 16:24
Speaker 1: of thought. You believe, And upon this little word belief
• 16:29
Speaker 1: hang all our sorrows and joys, that outward things have
• 16:33
Speaker 1: the power to make or mar your life. By so doing,
• 16:37
Speaker 1: you submit to those outward things, confess that you are
• 16:41
Speaker 1: their slave, and they are your unconditional master. By so
• 16:45
Speaker 1: doing you invest them with a power which they do
• 16:49
Speaker 1: not of themselves possess. And you succumb in reality not
• 16:55
Speaker 1: to mere circumstances, but to the gloom or gladness, the
• 16:59
Speaker 1: fear or hope, the strength or weakness which her thoughts
• 17:04
Speaker 1: sphere has thrown around them. I knew two men who,
• 17:08
Speaker 1: at an early age lost the hard earned savings of years.
• 17:13
Speaker 1: One was very deeply troubled and gave way to chagrin, worry,
• 17:18
Speaker 1: and despondency. The other, on reading in his morning paper
• 17:23
Speaker 1: that the bank in which his money was deposited had
• 17:26
Speaker 1: hopelessly failed and that he had lost all, quietly and
• 17:30
Speaker 1: firmly remarked, well, it's gone, and trouble and worry won't
• 17:35
Speaker 1: bring it back, but hard work will. He went to
• 17:40
Speaker 1: work with renewed vigor and rapidly became prosperous, while the
• 17:45
Speaker 1: former man, continuing to mourn the loss of his money
• 17:49
Speaker 1: and to grumble at his bad luck, remained the sport
• 17:52
Speaker 1: and tool of adverse circumstances in reality of his own
• 17:57
Speaker 1: weak and slavish thoughts. The loss of money was a
• 18:01
Speaker 1: curse to the one because he clothed the event with
• 18:05
Speaker 1: dark and dreary thoughts. It was a blessing to the
• 18:08
Speaker 1: other because he threw around at thoughts of strength, of
• 18:12
Speaker 1: hope and renewed endeavor. If circumstances had the power to
• 18:17
Speaker 1: bless or harm, they would bless and harm all men alike.
• 18:22
Speaker 1: But the fact that the same circumstances will be alike
• 18:25
Speaker 1: good and bad to different souls proves that the good
• 18:30
Speaker 1: or bad is not the circumstance, but only in the
• 18:34
Speaker 1: mind of him that encounters it. When you begin to
• 18:38
Speaker 1: realize this, you will begin to control your thoughts, to
• 18:42
Speaker 1: regulate and discipline your mind, and to rebuild the inward
• 18:47
Speaker 1: temple of your soul, eliminating all useless and superlificus material,
• 18:53
Speaker 1: and incorporating into your being thoughts alone of joy and serenity,
• 18:58
Speaker 1: of strength and life, of compassion and love, of beauty
• 19:03
Speaker 1: and immortality. And as you do this, you will become
• 19:08
Speaker 1: joyful and serene, strong and healthy, compassionate and loving, and
• 19:14
Speaker 1: beautiful with the beauty of immortality. As we clothe events
• 19:19
Speaker 1: with the drapery of our own thoughts, so likewise do
• 19:23
Speaker 1: we clothe the objects of the visible world around us.
• 19:27
Speaker 1: And where one sees harmony and beauty, another sees revolting ugliness.
• 19:34
Speaker 1: An enthusiastic naturalist was one day roaming the country lanes
• 19:38
Speaker 1: in pursuit of his hobby, and during his rambles, came
• 19:43
Speaker 1: upon a pool of brackish water near a farm yard.
• 19:47
Speaker 1: As he proceeded to fill a small bottle with the
• 19:49
Speaker 1: water for the purpose of examination under the microscope, he
• 19:54
Speaker 1: dilated with more enthusiasm than discretion. To an uncultivated son
• 20:00
Speaker 1: of the plow, who stood close by upon the hidden
• 20:03
Speaker 1: in innumerable wonders contained in the pool, and concluded by saying, yes,
• 20:09
Speaker 1: my friend, within this pool is contained a hundred, nay
• 20:14
Speaker 1: a million, universes. Had we but the sense or the
• 20:18
Speaker 1: instrument by which we could apprehend them, and the unsophisticated
• 20:23
Speaker 1: one ponderously remarked, I know the water be full of tadpoles,
• 20:28
Speaker 1: but they be easy to catch. When the naturalist, his
• 20:33
Speaker 1: mind stored with the knowledge of natural facts, saw beauty, harmony,
• 20:39
Speaker 1: and hidden glory, the mind, unenlightened upon those things, saw
• 20:44
Speaker 1: only an offensive mud puddle. The wild flower which the
• 20:49
Speaker 1: casual wayfarer thoughtlessly tramples upon, is to the spiritual eye
• 20:55
Speaker 1: of the poet, an angelic messenger from the invisible. To many,
• 21:01
Speaker 1: the ocean is but a dreary expanse of water on
• 21:04
Speaker 1: which ships sail and are sometimes wrecked. To the soul
• 21:08
Speaker 1: of the musician, it is a living thing, and he hears,
• 21:13
Speaker 1: in all its changing moods, divine harmonies. Where the ordinary
• 21:19
Speaker 1: mind sees disaster and confusion, the mind of the philosopher
• 21:23
Speaker 1: sees the most perfect sequence of cause and effect. And
• 21:27
Speaker 1: where the materialists sees nothing but endless death, the mystic
• 21:32
Speaker 1: sees pulsating and eternal life. And as we clothe both
• 21:37
Speaker 1: events and objects with our own thoughts, so likewise do
• 21:42
Speaker 1: we clothe the souls of others in the garments of
• 21:44
Speaker 1: our thoughts. The suspicious believe everybody to be suspicious. The
• 21:51
Speaker 1: lyre feels secure in the thought that he is not
• 21:54
Speaker 1: so foolish as to believe that there is such a
• 21:57
Speaker 1: phenomenon as a strictly truthful person. The envious see envy
• 22:02
Speaker 1: in every soul. The miser thinks everybody is eager to
• 22:06
Speaker 1: get his money. He who has subordinated conscious in the
• 22:11
Speaker 1: making of his wealth, sleeps with a revolver under his pillow,
• 22:16
Speaker 1: wrapped in the delusion that the world is full of
• 22:18
Speaker 1: consciousless people who are eager to rob him, And the
• 22:22
Speaker 1: abandoned sensualist looks upon the saint as a hypocrite. On
• 22:28
Speaker 1: the other hand, those who dwell in loving thoughts see
• 22:32
Speaker 1: that all in which calls forth their love and sympathy.
• 22:36
Speaker 1: The trusting and honest are not troubled by suspicions. The
• 22:41
Speaker 1: good natured and charitable, who rejoice at the good fortune
• 22:45
Speaker 1: of others. Scarcely know what envy means, and he who
• 22:49
Speaker 1: has realized the divine within himself recognizes it in all beings,
• 22:55
Speaker 1: even in the beasts. And men and women are confirmed
• 22:59
Speaker 1: in their mental outlook because of the fact that, by
• 23:03
Speaker 1: the law of cause and effect, they attract to themselves
• 23:07
Speaker 1: that which they send forth, and so come in contact
• 23:11
Speaker 1: with people similar to themselves. The old adage birds of
• 23:16
Speaker 1: a feather flocked together has a deeper significance and is
• 23:20
Speaker 1: generally attached to it, For in the thought world, as
• 23:25
Speaker 1: in the world of matter, each claims to its kind.
• 23:29
Speaker 1: Do you wish for kindness? Be kind? Do you ask
• 23:34
Speaker 1: for truth? Be true? What you give of yourself, you
• 23:39
Speaker 1: find your world is a reflex of you. If you
• 23:44
Speaker 1: are one of those who are praying for and looking
• 23:47
Speaker 1: forward to a happier world beyond the grave, here is
• 23:52
Speaker 1: a message of gladness for you, you may enter into
• 23:56
Speaker 1: and realize that happy world. Now it feels the whole universe,
• 24:01
Speaker 1: and it is within you waiting for you to find
• 24:05
Speaker 1: acknowledge and possess, said one who knew the inner laws
• 24:09
Speaker 1: of being. When men shall go here or go there,
• 24:14
Speaker 1: go not after them the Kingdom of God is within you.
• 24:19
Speaker 1: What you have to do is believe this. Simply believe
• 24:23
Speaker 1: it with a mind unshadowed by doubt, and then meditate
• 24:27
Speaker 1: upon it till you understand it. You will then begin
• 24:32
Speaker 1: to purify and to build your inner world. And as
• 24:36
Speaker 1: you proceed, passing from revelation to revelation, from realization to realization,
• 24:43
Speaker 1: you will discover the utter powerlessness of outward things beside
• 24:48
Speaker 1: the magic potency of a self governed soul. If thou
• 24:53
Speaker 1: wouldst right to the world and banish all its evils
• 24:56
Speaker 1: and its woes, make its wild place bloom and its
• 25:01
Speaker 1: drearer deserts blossom as the rose, then right thyself. If
• 25:08
Speaker 1: thou wouldst turn the world from its long lone captivity
• 25:12
Speaker 1: and sin, restore all broken hearts, slay grief, and let
• 25:17
Speaker 1: sweet consolation. In turn thou thyself. If thou wouldst cure
• 25:24
Speaker 1: the world of its long sickness, end its grief and pain,
• 25:30
Speaker 1: bring in all healing joy, and give to thee afflicted
• 25:34
Speaker 1: rest again, then cure thyself. If thou wouldst wake the
• 25:40
Speaker 1: world out of its dream of death and darkening strife,
• 25:45
Speaker 1: bring it to love and peace, and light and brightness,
• 25:48
Speaker 1: of immortal life, Wake thou thyself the way out of
• 25:54
Speaker 1: undesirable conditions. Having seen and realized that evil is but
• 26:00
Speaker 1: a passing shadow throne, by the intercepting self across the
• 26:05
Speaker 1: transcendent form of the eternal good, and that the world
• 26:08
Speaker 1: is a mirror in which each sees a reflection of himself,
• 26:13
Speaker 1: we now ascend, by firm and easy steps, to that
• 26:17
Speaker 1: plane of perception whereon is seen and realized the vision
• 26:21
Speaker 1: of the law. With this realization comes the knowledge that
• 26:26
Speaker 1: everything is included in a ceaseless interaction of cause and effect,
• 26:31
Speaker 1: and that nothing can possibly be divorced from law. From
• 26:35
Speaker 1: the most trivial thought, word, or act of man up
• 26:39
Speaker 1: to the groupings of celestial bodies, law reigns supreme. No
• 26:44
Speaker 1: arbitrary condition can even for one moment exist, for such
• 26:50
Speaker 1: a condition would be a denial and an annihilation of law.
• 26:54
Speaker 1: Every condition of life is therefore bound up in an
• 26:58
Speaker 1: orderly and harmonious lines sequence, and the secret and cause
• 27:03
Speaker 1: of every condition is contained within itself. The law, whatsoever
• 27:09
Speaker 1: a man sows that he shall also reap, is inscribed
• 27:13
Speaker 1: in flaming letters upon the portal of eternity, and none
• 27:17
Speaker 1: can deny it. None can cheat it, none can escape it.
• 27:22
Speaker 1: He who puts his hand in the fire must suffer
• 27:25
Speaker 1: the burning until such a time as it has worked
• 27:29
Speaker 1: itself out, and neither curses nor prayers can avail to
• 27:33
Speaker 1: alter it. And precisely, the same law governs the realm
• 27:37
Speaker 1: of mind. Hatred, anger, jealousy, envy, lust, covetuousness. All these
• 27:46
Speaker 1: are fires which burn, and whoever even so much as
• 27:50
Speaker 1: touches them, must suffer the torments of burning. All these
• 27:54
Speaker 1: conditions of mind are rightly called evil, for they are
• 27:58
Speaker 1: the efforts of the soul to subvert, in its ignorance,
• 28:02
Speaker 1: the law, and they therefore lead to chaos and confusion within,
• 28:08
Speaker 1: and are sooner or later actualized in the outward circumstances
• 28:13
Speaker 1: as disease, failure, and misfortune coupled with grief, pain and despair.
• 28:21
Speaker 1: Whereas love, gentleness, good will, purity, or cooling errors, which
• 28:27
Speaker 1: breathe peace upon the soul that woes them, and being
• 28:30
Speaker 1: in harmony with the eternal law, they become actualized in
• 28:34
Speaker 1: the form of health, peaceful surroundings, and undeviating success and
• 28:39
Speaker 1: good fortune. A thorough understanding of this great law which
• 28:44
Speaker 1: permeates the universe leads to the acquirement of that state
• 28:48
Speaker 1: of mind known as obedience. To know that justice, harmony,
• 28:54
Speaker 1: and love are supreme in the universe is likewise to
• 28:58
Speaker 1: know that all adverse and painful conditions are the result
• 29:02
Speaker 1: of our own disobedience to that law. Such knowledge leads
• 29:06
Speaker 1: to strength and power, and it is upon such knowledge
• 29:10
Speaker 1: alone that a true life and an enduring success and
• 29:14
Speaker 1: happiness can be built. To be patient under all circumstances,
• 29:20
Speaker 1: and to accept all conditions as necessary factors in your training,
• 29:25
Speaker 1: is to rise superior to all painful conditions, and to
• 29:29
Speaker 1: overcome them with an overcoming which is sure, and which
• 29:33
Speaker 1: leaves no fear of their return, For by the power
• 29:36
Speaker 1: of obedience to law, they are utterly slain. Such an
• 29:41
Speaker 1: obedient one is working in harmony with the law, has
• 29:45
Speaker 1: in fact identified himself with the law. And whatsoever he conquers,
• 29:50
Speaker 1: he conquers forever. Whatsoever he builds, can never be destroyed.
• 29:56
Speaker 1: The cause of all power, as of all weakness, is within,
• 30:01
Speaker 1: the secret of all happiness, as of all misery, is
• 30:06
Speaker 1: likewise within. There is no progress apart from unfoldment within,
• 30:12
Speaker 1: and no sure foothold of prosperity or peace, except by
• 30:16
Speaker 1: the orderly advancement in knowledge. You say you are chained
• 30:20
Speaker 1: by circumstances. You cry out for better opportunities, for a
• 30:25
Speaker 1: wider scope, for improved physical conditions, and perhaps you inwardly
• 30:31
Speaker 1: curse the fate that binds you hand and foot. It
• 30:35
Speaker 1: is for you that I write, It is for you
• 30:38
Speaker 1: that I speak. Listen, and let my words burn themselves
• 30:42
Speaker 1: into your heart. For that which I say to you
• 30:45
Speaker 1: is truth. You may bring about that improved condition in
• 30:49
Speaker 1: your outward life which you desire, if you will unswervingly
• 30:54
Speaker 1: resolve to improve your inner life. I know this pathway
• 30:58
Speaker 1: looks barren at its commence. Truth always does. It is
• 31:03
Speaker 1: only error and delusion which are at first inviting and fascinating.
• 31:08
Speaker 1: But if you undertake to walk it, if you perseveringly
• 31:12
Speaker 1: discipline your mind, eradicating your weaknesses, and allowing your sole
• 31:17
Speaker 1: forces and spiritual powers to unfold themselves, you will be
• 31:23
Speaker 1: astonished at the magical changes which will be brought about
• 31:26
Speaker 1: in your outward life. As you proceed, Golden opportunities will
• 31:31
Speaker 1: be strewn across your path, and the power and judgment
• 31:35
Speaker 1: to properly utilize them will spring up within you. Genial
• 31:40
Speaker 1: friends will come unbidden to you. Sympathetic souls will be
• 31:44
Speaker 1: drawn to you as the needle is to the magnet,
• 31:48
Speaker 1: and books and all outward aids that you require will
• 31:52
Speaker 1: come to you unsought. Perhaps the chains of poverty hang
• 31:57
Speaker 1: heavily upon you, and you are friendless in a way,
• 32:01
Speaker 1: and you long, with an intense longing, that your load
• 32:04
Speaker 1: may be lightened. But the load continues, and you seem
• 32:08
Speaker 1: to be enveloped in an ever increasing darkness. Perhaps you complain.
• 32:14
Speaker 1: You bewail your lot, your birth, your parents, your employer,
• 32:20
Speaker 1: or the unjust powers who have bestowed upon you so
• 32:23
Speaker 1: undeservedly povered in other affluence and ease. Cease your complaining
• 32:29
Speaker 1: and fretting. None of these things which you blame are
• 32:32
Speaker 1: the cause of your poverty. The cause is within yourself,
• 32:37
Speaker 1: and where the cause is, there is the remedy. The
• 32:41
Speaker 1: very fact that you are a complainer shows that you
• 32:44
Speaker 1: deserve your lot, shows that you lack the faith which
• 32:48
Speaker 1: is the ground of all effort and progress. There is
• 32:52
Speaker 1: no room for a complainer in a universe of law,
• 32:55
Speaker 1: and worry is sole suicide. By your very attitude of mind,
• 33:01
Speaker 1: you are strengthening the chains which bind you, and are
• 33:04
Speaker 1: drawing about you. The darkness by which you are enveloped
• 33:09
Speaker 1: alter your outlook upon life, and your outward life will alter.
• 33:14
Speaker 1: Build yourself up in the faith and knowledge, and make
• 33:18
Speaker 1: yourself worthy of better surroundings and wider opportunities. Be sure,
• 33:24
Speaker 1: first of all that you are making the best of
• 33:26
Speaker 1: what you have. Do not delude yourself into supposing that
• 33:31
Speaker 1: you can step into greater advantages whilst overlooking smaller ones.
• 33:37
Speaker 1: For if you could, the advantage would be impermanent, and
• 33:41
Speaker 1: you would quickly fall back again in order to learn
• 33:44
Speaker 1: the lesson which you had neglected. As the child at
• 33:48
Speaker 1: school must master one standard before passing on to the next,
• 33:53
Speaker 1: so before you can have that greater good which you
• 33:56
Speaker 1: so desire, must you faithfully employ that which you already possess.
• 34:02
Speaker 1: The Parable of the Talents is a beautiful story illustrative
• 34:06
Speaker 1: of this truth. For does it not plainly show that
• 34:10
Speaker 1: if we misuse, neglect, or degrade that which we possess,
• 34:15
Speaker 1: be it ever so mean and insignificant, even that little
• 34:19
Speaker 1: will be taken from us, For by our conduct we
• 34:23
Speaker 1: show that we are unworthy of it. Perhaps you are
• 34:26
Speaker 1: living in a small cottage and are surrounded by unhealthy
• 34:30
Speaker 1: and vicious influences. You desire a larger and more sanitary residence,
• 34:37
Speaker 1: then you must fit yourself for such a residence by
• 34:40
Speaker 1: first of all, making your cottage as far as possible
• 34:44
Speaker 1: a little paradise. Keep it spotlessly clean, Make it look
• 34:49
Speaker 1: as pretty and sweet as your limited means will allow.
• 34:52
Speaker 1: Cook your plain food with all care, and arrange your
• 34:56
Speaker 1: humble table as tastefully as you possibly can. If you
• 35:00
Speaker 1: cannot afford a carpet, let your rooms be carpeted with
• 35:04
Speaker 1: smiles and welcomes. Fasten down with the nails of kind words,
• 35:09
Speaker 1: driven in with the hammer of patience. Such a carpet
• 35:13
Speaker 1: will not fade in the sun, and constant use will
• 35:17
Speaker 1: never wear it away. So by ennobling your present surroundings,
• 35:21
Speaker 1: you will rise above them and above the need of them,
• 35:25
Speaker 1: and at the right time you will pass on into
• 35:28
Speaker 1: a better house and surroundings which have all along been
• 35:32
Speaker 1: waiting for you, and which you have fitted yourself to occupy.
• 35:36
Speaker 1: Perhaps you desire more time for thought and effort, and
• 35:40
Speaker 1: feel that your hours of labor are too hard and long,
• 35:44
Speaker 1: Then see to it that you are utilizing to the
• 35:47
Speaker 1: fullest possible extent what little spare time you have. It
• 35:52
Speaker 1: is useless to desire more time if you are already
• 35:55
Speaker 1: wasting what little you have, for you would only grow
• 35:58
Speaker 1: more indolent and indifferent. Even poverty and lack of time
• 36:03
Speaker 1: and leisure are not the only evils that you imagine
• 36:06
Speaker 1: they are, And if they hinder you in your progress,
• 36:11
Speaker 1: it is because you have clothed them in your own weaknesses.
• 36:14
Speaker 1: And the evil that you see them in is really
• 36:17
Speaker 1: in yourself. Endeavor to fully and completely realize that, in
• 36:23
Speaker 1: so far as you shape and mold your mind, you
• 36:26
Speaker 1: are the maker of your destiny. And as by the
• 36:30
Speaker 1: transmuting power of self discipline you realize this more and more,
• 36:35
Speaker 1: you will come to see that these so called evils
• 36:38
Speaker 1: may be converted into blessings. You will then utilize your
• 36:42
Speaker 1: poverty for the cultivation of patience, hope, and courage, and
• 36:47
Speaker 1: your lack of time in the gaining of promptness of
• 36:50
Speaker 1: action and decision of mind, by seizing the precious moments
• 36:55
Speaker 1: as they present themselves for your acceptance. As in the
• 37:00
Speaker 1: rank is soil, the most beautiful flowers are grown, so
• 37:03
Speaker 1: in the dark soil of poverty, the choicest flowers of
• 37:07
Speaker 1: humanity have developed and bloomed. Where there are difficulties to
• 37:12
Speaker 1: cope with and unsatisfactory conditions to overcome, their virtue most
• 37:18
Speaker 1: flourishes and manifests its glory. It may be that you
• 37:23
Speaker 1: are in the employ of a tyranneous master or mistress,
• 37:28
Speaker 1: and you feel that you are harshly treated. Look upon
• 37:31
Speaker 1: this also as necessary to your training. Return your employer's
• 37:36
Speaker 1: unkindness with gentleness and forgiveness, practice unceasingly, patience, and self control.
• 37:44
Speaker 1: Turn the disadvantage to account by utilizing it for the
• 37:48
Speaker 1: gain of mental and spiritual strength, and by your silent
• 37:52
Speaker 1: example and influence. You will thus be teaching your employer,
• 37:57
Speaker 1: will be helping him to grow ashamed of his conduct,
• 38:01
Speaker 1: and will at the same time be lifting yourself up
• 38:05
Speaker 1: to that height of spiritual attainment, by which you will
• 38:08
Speaker 1: be enabled to step into new and more congenial surroundings
• 38:13
Speaker 1: at the time when they are presented to you. Do
• 38:16
Speaker 1: not complain that you are a slave, but lift yourself
• 38:20
Speaker 1: up by noble conduct above the plane of slavery. Before
• 38:25
Speaker 1: complaining that you are a slave to another, be sure
• 38:29
Speaker 1: that you are not a slave to self. Look within,
• 38:34
Speaker 1: look searchingly, and have no mercy upon yourself you will
• 38:39
Speaker 1: find there, perchance slavish thoughts, slavish desires, and in your
• 38:45
Speaker 1: daily life and conduct slavish habits. Conquer these, cease to
• 38:51
Speaker 1: be a slave to self, and no man will have
• 38:55
Speaker 1: the power to enslave you. As you overcome self, you
• 38:59
Speaker 1: will overcome all adverse conditions, and every difficulty will fall
• 39:04
Speaker 1: before you. Do not complain that you are oppressed by
• 39:08
Speaker 1: the rich. Are you sure that if you gain these riches,
• 39:12
Speaker 1: you would not be an oppressor yourself? Remember that there
• 39:16
Speaker 1: is the eternal law, which is absolutely just, and that
• 39:20
Speaker 1: he who oppresses today must himself be oppressed tomorrow, And
• 39:25
Speaker 1: from this there is no way of escape. And perhaps you, yesterday,
• 39:31
Speaker 1: in some former existence, were rich and an oppressor, and
• 39:36
Speaker 1: that you are now merely paying off the debt which
• 39:39
Speaker 1: you owe to the great law. Practice. Therefore, fortitude and
• 39:44
Speaker 1: faith dwell constantly in the mind upon the eternal justice,
• 39:49
Speaker 1: the eternal good. Endeavor to lift yourself above the personal
• 39:54
Speaker 1: and the transitory into the impersonal and permanent. Shake off
• 40:00
Speaker 1: the delusion that you are being injured or oppressed by another,
• 40:04
Speaker 1: and try to realize by a profounder comprehension of your
• 40:08
Speaker 1: inner life and the laws which govern that life, that
• 40:12
Speaker 1: you are only really injured by what is within you.
• 40:16
Speaker 1: There is no practice more degrading, debasing, and soul destroying
• 40:21
Speaker 1: than that of self pity. Cast it out from you.
• 40:25
Speaker 1: While such a canker is feeding upon your heart, you
• 40:28
Speaker 1: can never expect to grow into a fuller life. Cease
• 40:32
Speaker 1: from the condemnation of others, and begin to condemn yourself.
• 40:37
Speaker 1: Condone none of your acts, desires, or thoughts that will
• 40:40
Speaker 1: not bear comparison with spotless purity, or endure the light
• 40:45
Speaker 1: of sinless good. By so doing, you will be building
• 40:48
Speaker 1: your house upon the rock of the eternal, and all
• 40:52
Speaker 1: that is required for your happiness and well being will
• 40:55
Speaker 1: come to you in its own time. There is positively
• 40:59
Speaker 1: no way of permanently rising above poverty or any undesirable condition,
• 41:05
Speaker 1: except by eradicating those selfish and negative conditions, within of
• 41:10
Speaker 1: which these are the reflection, and by virtue of which
• 41:14
Speaker 1: they continue. The way to true riches is to enrich
• 41:19
Speaker 1: the soul by the acquisition of virtue. Outside of real
• 41:23
Speaker 1: heart virtue, there is neither prosperity nor power, but only
• 41:28
Speaker 1: the appearances of these. I am aware that men make
• 41:32
Speaker 1: money who have acquired no measure of virtue, and have
• 41:36
Speaker 1: little desire to do so. But such money does not
• 41:39
Speaker 1: constitute true riches, and its possession is transitory and feverish.
• 41:46
Speaker 1: Here is David's testimony, For I was envious at the
• 41:50
Speaker 1: foolish when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. Their
• 41:54
Speaker 1: eyes stand out with fatness. They have more than heart
• 41:57
Speaker 1: could wish. I have cleansed my heart in vain and
• 42:03
Speaker 1: washed my hands in innocence. When I thought to know this,
• 42:07
Speaker 1: it was too painful for me until I went into
• 42:11
Speaker 1: the sanctuary of God. Then I understood their end. The
• 42:16
Speaker 1: prosperity of the wicked was a great trial to David
• 42:20
Speaker 1: until he went into the sanctuary of God, and then
• 42:24
Speaker 1: he knew their end. You, likewise, may go into that sanctuary.
• 42:29
Speaker 1: It is within you. It is that state of consciousness
• 42:33
Speaker 1: which remains when all that is sordid and personal and
• 42:37
Speaker 1: impermanent is risen above and universal and eternal principles are realized.
• 42:44
Speaker 1: That is the God's state of consciousness. It is the
• 42:47
Speaker 1: sanctuary of the Most High. When by long strife and
• 42:51
Speaker 1: self discipline you have succeeded in entering the door of
• 42:55
Speaker 1: that holy temple, you will perceive with unobstructed vision the
• 43:00
Speaker 1: end and fruit of all human thought and endeavor, both
• 43:04
Speaker 1: good and evil. You will then no longer relax your
• 43:08
Speaker 1: faith when you see the immoral man accumulating outward riches,
• 43:13
Speaker 1: for you will know that he must come again to
• 43:16
Speaker 1: poverty and degradation. The rich man who is barren of
• 43:21
Speaker 1: virtue is in reality poor. And as surely as the
• 43:25
Speaker 1: waters of the river are drifting to the ocean, so
• 43:28
Speaker 1: surely is he, in the midst of all his riches,
• 43:32
Speaker 1: drifting towards poverty and misfortune. And though he die rich,
• 43:38
Speaker 1: yet he must return to reap the bitter fruit of
• 43:41
Speaker 1: all his immorality. And though he become rich many times,
• 43:46
Speaker 1: yet as many times must he be thrown back into poverty,
• 43:50
Speaker 1: until by long experience and suffering he conquers the poverty within.
• 43:56
Speaker 1: But the man who is outwardly poor yet rich in virtue,
• 44:00
Speaker 1: is truly rich, and in the midst of all his poverty,
• 44:04
Speaker 1: he is surely traveling towards prosperity, and a bounding joy
• 44:08
Speaker 1: and bliss await his coming. If you would be truly
• 44:12
Speaker 1: and permanently prosperous, you must first become virtuous. It is
• 44:18
Speaker 1: therefore unwise to aim directly at prosperity, to make it
• 44:22
Speaker 1: the one object of life, to reach out greedily for it.
• 44:26
Speaker 1: To do this is to ultimately defeat yourself, but rather
• 44:31
Speaker 1: aim ittself perfection, make useful and unselfish service the object
• 44:36
Speaker 1: of your life, and ever reach out hands of faith
• 44:40
Speaker 1: towards the supreme and unalterable good. You say you desire
• 44:45
Speaker 1: wealth not for your sake, but in order to do
• 44:48
Speaker 1: good with it and to bless others. If this is
• 44:51
Speaker 1: your real motive in desiring wealth, then wealth will come
• 44:55
Speaker 1: to you, for you are strong and unselfish. Indeed, if
• 44:59
Speaker 1: in the midst of of riches you are willing to
• 45:01
Speaker 1: look upon yourself as a steward and not as owner,
• 45:06
Speaker 1: but examine well your motive, For in the majority of
• 45:09
Speaker 1: instances where money is desired for the admitted object of
• 45:13
Speaker 1: blessing others, the real underlying motive is a love of
• 45:17
Speaker 1: popularity and a desire to pose as a philanthropist or reformer.
• 45:23
Speaker 1: If you are not doing good with what little you have,
• 45:27
Speaker 1: the more money you got, the more selfish you would become,
• 45:30
Speaker 1: and all the good you appeared to do with your money,
• 45:33
Speaker 1: if you attempted to do any would be so much
• 45:36
Speaker 1: insinuating self laudation. If your real desire is to do good,
• 45:42
Speaker 1: there is no need to wait for money before you
• 45:44
Speaker 1: do it. You can do it now, this very moment,
• 45:49
Speaker 1: and just where you are. If you are really so
• 45:52
Speaker 1: unselfish as you believe yourself to be, you will show
• 45:56
Speaker 1: it by sacrificing yourself for others. Now, no matter how
• 46:01
Speaker 1: poor you are, there is room for self sacrifice. For
• 46:05
Speaker 1: did not the widow put her all into the treasury.
• 46:09
Speaker 1: The heart that truly desires to do good does not
• 46:13
Speaker 1: wait for money before doing it, but comes to the
• 46:16
Speaker 1: altar of sacrifice, and leaving there the unworthy elements of self,
• 46:21
Speaker 1: goes out and breeze upon neighbor and stranger, friend and
• 46:25
Speaker 1: enemy alike, the breath of blessedness. As the effect is
• 46:30
Speaker 1: related to the cause, so is prosperity and power related
• 46:35
Speaker 1: to the inward good, and poverty and weakness to the
• 46:39
Speaker 1: inward evil. Money does not constitute true wealth, nor position,
• 46:45
Speaker 1: nor power, and to rely upon it alone is to
• 46:49
Speaker 1: stand upon a slippery place. Your true wealth is your
• 46:54
Speaker 1: stock of virtue, and your true power. The uses to
• 46:58
Speaker 1: which you put it rectify your heart, and you will
• 47:02
Speaker 1: rectify your life, lust, hatred, anger, vanity, pride, covetuousness, self indulgence,
• 47:13
Speaker 1: self seeking, obstinacy. All these are poverty and weakness, whereas love, purity, gentleness, meekness, compassion, generosity,
• 47:27
Speaker 1: self forgetfulness, and self renunciation, all these are wealth and power,
• 47:34
Speaker 1: as the elements of poverty and weakness are overcome and irresistible.
• 47:39
Speaker 1: And all conquering power is evolved from within. And he
• 47:43
Speaker 1: who succeeds in establishing himself in the highest virtue brings
• 47:48
Speaker 1: the whole world to his feet. But the rich, as
• 47:52
Speaker 1: well as the poor, have their undesirable conditions, and are
• 47:56
Speaker 1: frequently farther removed from happiness than the poor. And here
• 48:01
Speaker 1: we see how happiness depends not upon outward aids or possessions,
• 48:07
Speaker 1: but upon the inward life. Perhaps you are an employer,
• 48:11
Speaker 1: and you have endless trouble with those whom you employ,
• 48:15
Speaker 1: and when you do get good and faithful servants, they
• 48:18
Speaker 1: quickly leave you. As a result, you are beginning to lose,
• 48:23
Speaker 1: or have completely lost, your faith in human nature. You
• 48:28
Speaker 1: try to remedy matters by giving better wages and by
• 48:31
Speaker 1: allowing certain liberties, Yet matters remain unaltered. Let me advise
• 48:37
Speaker 1: you the secret of all your trouble is not in
• 48:41
Speaker 1: your servants. It is in yourself. And if you look
• 48:45
Speaker 1: within with a humble and sincere desire to discover and
• 48:49
Speaker 1: eradicate your error, you will sooner or later find the
• 48:54
Speaker 1: origin of all your unhappiness. It may be some selfish desire,
• 48:59
Speaker 1: or life king suspicion, or unkind attitude of mind, which
• 49:04
Speaker 1: sends out its poison upon those about you, and reacts
• 49:08
Speaker 1: upon yourself, even though you may not show it in
• 49:11
Speaker 1: your manner or speech. Think of your servants with kindness,
• 49:16
Speaker 1: Consider of them that extremity of service which you, yourself, would
• 49:20
Speaker 1: not care to perform, were you in their place. Rare
• 49:25
Speaker 1: and beautiful is that humility of soul by which a
• 49:28
Speaker 1: servant entirely forgets himself in his master's good. But far
• 49:33
Speaker 1: rarer and beautiful, with a divine beauty, is that nobility
• 49:37
Speaker 1: of soul by which a man, forgetting his own happiness,
• 49:42
Speaker 1: seeks the happiness of those who are under his authority
• 49:46
Speaker 1: and who depend upon him for their bodily sustenance. And
• 49:51
Speaker 1: such a man's happiness is increased tenfold. Nor does he
• 49:55
Speaker 1: need to complain of those whom he employs set a
• 49:59
Speaker 1: well known and extensive employer of labor who never needs
• 50:03
Speaker 1: to dismiss an employee. I have always had the happiest
• 50:07
Speaker 1: relations with my workpeople. If you ask me how it
• 50:11
Speaker 1: is to be accounted for, I can only say that
• 50:15
Speaker 1: it has been my aim from the first to do
• 50:18
Speaker 1: to them as I would wish to be done by.
• 50:21
Speaker 1: Herein lies the secret by which all desirable conditions are secured,
• 50:27
Speaker 1: and all that are undesirable are overcome. Do you say
• 50:31
Speaker 1: that you are lonely and unloved, and have not a
• 50:34
Speaker 1: friend in the world, then I pray you, for the
• 50:38
Speaker 1: sake of your own happiness, blame nobody but yourself. Be
• 50:43
Speaker 1: friendly towards others, and friends will soon flock round you.
• 50:48
Speaker 1: Make yourself pure and lovable, and you will be loved
• 50:51
Speaker 1: by all. Whatever conditions are rendering your life burdensome, you
• 50:57
Speaker 1: may pass out of and beyond them, by developing and
• 51:00
Speaker 1: utilizing within you the transforming power of self purification and
• 51:06
Speaker 1: self conquest. Be it the poverty which galls And remember
• 51:11
Speaker 1: that the poverty upon which I have been dilating is
• 51:14
Speaker 1: that poverty which is a source of misery, and not
• 51:18
Speaker 1: that voluntary poverty which is the glory of emancipated souls,
• 51:23
Speaker 1: or the riches which burden, or the many misfortunes, griefs,
• 51:27
Speaker 1: and annoyances which form the dark background in the web
• 51:31
Speaker 1: of life. You may overcome them by overcoming the selfish
• 51:36
Speaker 1: elements within which give them life. It matters not that
• 51:41
Speaker 1: by the unfailing law there are past thoughts and acts
• 51:45
Speaker 1: to work out and to atone for as by the
• 51:48
Speaker 1: same law we are setting in motion, during every moment
• 51:52
Speaker 1: of our life fresh thoughts and acts, and we have
• 51:56
Speaker 1: the power to make them good or ill. Nor does
• 52:00
Speaker 1: it follow that if a man reaping what he has
• 52:03
Speaker 1: sown must lose money or forfeit position, that he must
• 52:07
Speaker 1: also lose his fortitude or forfeit his uprightness. And it
• 52:12
Speaker 1: is in these that his wealth and power and happiness
• 52:15
Speaker 1: are to be found. He who clings to self is
• 52:19
Speaker 1: his own enemy, and is surrounded by enemies. He who
• 52:23
Speaker 1: relinquishes self is his own savior, and is surrounded by
• 52:28
Speaker 1: friends like a protecting belt. Before the divine radiance of
• 52:32
Speaker 1: a pure heart, all darkness vanishes, and all clouds melt away.
• 52:38
Speaker 1: And he who has conquered self has conquered the universe.
• 52:43
Speaker 1: Come then out of your poverty, come out of your pain,
• 52:48
Speaker 1: Come out of your troubles and sighings and complainings, and
• 52:52
Speaker 1: heartaches and loneliness. By coming out of yourself, let the
• 52:58
Speaker 1: old tattered garment of your petty so eelfishness fall from you,
• 53:02
Speaker 1: and put on the new garment of universal love. You
• 53:06
Speaker 1: will then realize the inward heaven, and it will be
• 53:09
Speaker 1: reflected in all your outward life. He who sets his
• 53:13
Speaker 1: foot firmly upon the path of self conquest, who walks,
• 53:18
Speaker 1: aided by the staff of faith, the highway of self sacrifice,
• 53:23
Speaker 1: will assuredly achieve the highest prosperity, and will reap abounding
• 53:28
Speaker 1: and enduring joy and bliss to them that seek the
• 53:32
Speaker 1: highest good. All things subserve. The wisest ends, nott comes
• 53:38
Speaker 1: as ill, and wisdom lends wings to all shapes of
• 53:42
Speaker 1: evil brood. The darkening sorrow veils a star that waits
• 53:47
Speaker 1: to shine with gladsome light. Hell waits on heaven, and
• 53:52
Speaker 1: after night comes golden glory from Afar defeats our steps
• 53:58
Speaker 1: by which we climb pure aim to nobler ends. Loss
• 54:03
Speaker 1: leads to gain, and joy attends true footsteps up the
• 54:07
Speaker 1: hills of time. Pain leads to paths of holy bliss,
• 54:12
Speaker 1: to thoughts and words and deeds divine, and clouds that gloom,
• 54:17
Speaker 1: and rays that shine along life's upward highway. Kiss misfortune
• 54:23
Speaker 1: does not but cloud the way whose end and summit
• 54:26
Speaker 1: in the sky of bright success, sun kissed and high
• 54:30
Speaker 1: awaits our seeking in our stay. The heavy pall of
• 54:34
Speaker 1: doubts and fears that clouds the valley of our hopes,
• 54:39
Speaker 1: the shades with which the spirit copes, the bitter harvesting
• 54:43
Speaker 1: of tears, the heart aches, miseries and griefs, the bruisings
• 54:48
Speaker 1: born of broken ties. All these are steps by which
• 54:52
Speaker 1: we rise to living ways of sound beliefs, love, pitying,
• 54:58
Speaker 1: watchful run to meet the pilgrim from the land of fate,
• 55:03
Speaker 1: all glory and all good weight, the coming of obedient feet.
• 55:09
Speaker 1: The silent power of thought, controlling and directing one's forces.
• 55:15
Speaker 1: The most powerful forces in the universe are the silent forces,
• 55:20
Speaker 1: And in accordance with the intensity of its power, does
• 55:24
Speaker 1: a force become beneficent when rightly directed and destructive when
• 55:28
Speaker 1: wrongly employed. This is a common knowledge in regard to
• 55:32
Speaker 1: the mechanical forces such as steam, electricity, et cetera. But
• 55:38
Speaker 1: few have yet learned to apply this knowledge to the
• 55:41
Speaker 1: realm of mind, where the thought forces most powerful of all,
• 55:46
Speaker 1: are continually being generated and sent forth as currents of
• 55:51
Speaker 1: salvation or destruction. At this stage of his evolution, man
• 55:56
Speaker 1: has entered into the possession of these forces, and the
• 56:00
Speaker 1: whole trend of his present advancement is their complete subjugation.
• 56:05
Speaker 1: All the wisdom possible to man on this material earth
• 56:09
Speaker 1: is to be found only in complete self mastery, and
• 56:12
Speaker 1: the command love your enemies resolves itself into an exultation
• 56:18
Speaker 1: to enter here and now into the possession of that
• 56:22
Speaker 1: sublime wisdom by taking hold of, mastering and transmuting those
• 56:27
Speaker 1: mind forces to which man is now slavishly subject, and
• 56:32
Speaker 1: by which he is helplessly born like a straw on
• 56:35
Speaker 1: the stream upon the currents of selfishness. The Hebrew prophets,
• 56:41
Speaker 1: with their perfect knowledge of the supreme Law, always related
• 56:45
Speaker 1: outward events to inward thought, an associated national disaster or
• 56:50
Speaker 1: success with the thoughts and desires that dominated the nation
• 56:54
Speaker 1: at the time. The knowledge of the causal power of
• 56:57
Speaker 1: thought is the basis of all their prieres, as it
• 57:01
Speaker 1: is the basis of all real wisdom and power. National
• 57:05
Speaker 1: events are simply the working out of the psychic forces
• 57:09
Speaker 1: of the nation. Wars, plagues, and famines are the meeting
• 57:14
Speaker 1: and clashing of wrongly directed thought forces, the culminating points
• 57:19
Speaker 1: at which destruction steps in as the agent of the law.
• 57:23
Speaker 1: It is foolish to ascribe war to the influence of
• 57:26
Speaker 1: one man, or to one body of men. It is
• 57:30
Speaker 1: the crowning horror of national selfishness. It is the silent
• 57:35
Speaker 1: and conquering thought forces which bring all things into manifestation.
• 57:40
Speaker 1: The universe grew out of thought. Matter, in its last analysis,
• 57:45
Speaker 1: is found to be merely objectivized thought. All men's accomplishments
• 57:50
Speaker 1: were first wrought out in thought and then objectivized. The author,
• 57:55
Speaker 1: the inventor, the architect, first builds up his work in thought, and,
• 58:01
Speaker 1: having perfected it in all its parts as a complete
• 58:05
Speaker 1: and harmonious whole upon the thought plane, he then commences
• 58:09
Speaker 1: to materialize it, to bring it down to the material
• 58:13
Speaker 1: or sense plane. When the thought forces are directed in
• 58:17
Speaker 1: harmony with the over ruling law, they are upbuilding and preservative,
• 58:22
Speaker 1: but when subverted they become disintegrating and self destructive. To
• 58:28
Speaker 1: adjust all your thoughts to a perfect and unswerving faith
• 58:32
Speaker 1: in the omnipotence and supremacy of good, is to cooperate
• 58:36
Speaker 1: with that good and to realize within yourself the solution
• 58:41
Speaker 1: and destruction of all evil. Believe and ye shall live.
• 58:46
Speaker 1: And here we have the true meaning of salvation, salvation
• 58:50
Speaker 1: from the darkness and negation of evil, by entering into
• 58:55
Speaker 1: and realizing the living light of the eternal good. Where
• 59:00
Speaker 1: there is fear, worry, anxiety, doubt, trouble, chagrin or disappointment,
• 59:07
Speaker 1: there is ignorance and lack of faith. All these conditions
• 59:11
Speaker 1: of mind are the direct outcome of selfishness, and are
• 59:15
Speaker 1: based upon an inherent belief in the power and supremacy
• 59:19
Speaker 1: of evil. They therefore constitute practical atheism. And to live
• 59:25
Speaker 1: in and become subject to these negative and soul destroying
• 59:29
Speaker 1: conditions of mind is the only real atheism. It is
• 59:34
Speaker 1: salvation from such conditions that the race needs. And let
• 59:38
Speaker 1: no man boast of salvation whilst he is their helpless
• 59:42
Speaker 1: and obedient slave. To fear or to worry is as
• 59:47
Speaker 1: sinful as to curse. For how can one fear or
• 59:50
Speaker 1: worry if he intrinsically believes in the eternal justice, the
• 59:55
Speaker 1: omnipotent good, the boundless love. To fear, to w worry,
• 1:00:00
Speaker 1: to doubt, is to deny, to disbelieve. It is from
• 1:00:05
Speaker 1: such states of mind that all weakness and failure proceed,
• 1:00:09
Speaker 1: for they represent the annulling and disintegrating of the positive
• 1:00:13
Speaker 1: thought forces, which would otherwise speed to their object with
• 1:00:17
Speaker 1: power and bring about their own beneficent results. To overcome
• 1:00:22
Speaker 1: these negative conditions is to enter into a life of power,
• 1:00:26
Speaker 1: is to cease to be a slave and to become
• 1:00:29
Speaker 1: a master. And there is only one way by which
• 1:00:33
Speaker 1: they can be overcome, and that is by steady and
• 1:00:36
Speaker 1: persistent growth in inward knowledge. To mentally deny evil is
• 1:00:41
Speaker 1: not sufficient. It must, by daily practice, be risen above
• 1:00:46
Speaker 1: and understood. To mentally affirm the good is inadequate, it must,
• 1:00:52
Speaker 1: by unswerving endeavour, be entered into and comprehended. The intelligent
• 1:00:58
Speaker 1: practice of self control quickly leads to a knowledge of
• 1:01:02
Speaker 1: one's interior thought forces, and later on to the acquisition
• 1:01:06
Speaker 1: of that power by which they are rightly employed and directed.
• 1:01:12
Speaker 1: In the measure that you master self, that you control
• 1:01:15
Speaker 1: your mental forces instead of being controlled by them. In
• 1:01:19
Speaker 1: just such measure, will you master affairs and outward circumstances
• 1:01:25
Speaker 1: show me a man under whose touch everything crumbles away,
• 1:01:29
Speaker 1: and who cannot retain success even when it is placed
• 1:01:33
Speaker 1: in his hands. And I will show you a man
• 1:01:36
Speaker 1: who dwells continually in those conditions of mind which are
• 1:01:40
Speaker 1: the very negation of power. To be forever wallowing in
• 1:01:44
Speaker 1: the bogs of doubt, to be drawn continually into the
• 1:01:47
Speaker 1: quicksands of fear, or blown ceaselessly about by the winds
• 1:01:51
Speaker 1: of anxiety, is to be a slave, and to live
• 1:01:55
Speaker 1: the life of a slave, even though success and influence
• 1:02:00
Speaker 1: before ever knocking at your door seeking for admittance. Such
• 1:02:04
Speaker 1: a man, being without faith and without self government, is
• 1:02:08
Speaker 1: incapable of the right government of his affairs, and is
• 1:02:12
Speaker 1: a slave to circumstances, in reality, a slave to himself.
• 1:02:18
Speaker 1: Such are taught by affliction, and ultimately pass from weakness
• 1:02:23
Speaker 1: to strength by the stress of bitter experience. Faith and
• 1:02:27
Speaker 1: purpose constitute the motive power of life. There is nothing
• 1:02:32
Speaker 1: that a strong faith and an unflinching purpose may not accomplish.
• 1:02:37
Speaker 1: By the daily exercise of silent faith, the thought forces
• 1:02:41
Speaker 1: are gathered together, and by the daily strengthening of silent purpose,
• 1:02:46
Speaker 1: those forces are directed toward the object of accomplishment. Whatever
• 1:02:51
Speaker 1: your position in life may be, Before you can hope
• 1:02:54
Speaker 1: to enter into any measure of success, usefulness and power
• 1:03:00
Speaker 1: le learn how to focus your thought forces by cultivating
• 1:03:03
Speaker 1: calmness and repose. It may be that you are a
• 1:03:07
Speaker 1: business man and you are suddenly confronted with some overwhelming
• 1:03:12
Speaker 1: difficulty or probable disaster. You grow fearful and anxious and
• 1:03:17
Speaker 1: are at your wits end. To persist in such a
• 1:03:20
Speaker 1: state of mind would be fatal, for when anxiety steps
• 1:03:24
Speaker 1: in correct, judgment passes out. Now, if you will take
• 1:03:28
Speaker 1: advantage of a quiet hour or two in the early
• 1:03:31
Speaker 1: morning or at night, and go away to some solitary
• 1:03:35
Speaker 1: spot or to some room in your house where you
• 1:03:38
Speaker 1: know you will be absolutely free from intrusion, and having
• 1:03:42
Speaker 1: seated yourself in an easy attitude, you forcibly direct your
• 1:03:47
Speaker 1: mind right away from the subject of anxiety by dwelling
• 1:03:51
Speaker 1: upon something in your life that is pleasing and bliss
• 1:03:54
Speaker 1: giving a calm, reposeful strength will gradually steal into your mind,
• 1:04:00
Speaker 1: and your anxiety will pass away. Upon the instant that
• 1:04:04
Speaker 1: you find your mind reverting to the lower plane of worry,
• 1:04:07
Speaker 1: bring it back again and re establish it on the
• 1:04:11
Speaker 1: plane of peace and strength. When this is fully accomplished,
• 1:04:16
Speaker 1: you may then concentrate your whole mind upon the solution
• 1:04:19
Speaker 1: of your difficulty, and what was intricate and insurmountable to
• 1:04:24
Speaker 1: you in your hour of anxiety will be made plain
• 1:04:27
Speaker 1: and easy, and you will see, with that clear vision
• 1:04:31
Speaker 1: and perfect judgment which belong only to a calm and
• 1:04:35
Speaker 1: untroubled mind, the right course to pursue and the proper
• 1:04:39
Speaker 1: end to be brought about. It may be that you
• 1:04:43
Speaker 1: will have to try day after day before you will
• 1:04:46
Speaker 1: be able to perfectly calm your mind. But if you persevere,
• 1:04:50
Speaker 1: you will certainly accomplish it. And the course which is
• 1:04:54
Speaker 1: presented to you in that hour of calmness must be
• 1:04:57
Speaker 1: carried out. Doubtless, when you are again involved in the
• 1:05:01
Speaker 1: business of the day, and worries again creep in and
• 1:05:05
Speaker 1: begin to dominate you, you will begin to think that
• 1:05:08
Speaker 1: the course is a wrong or foolish one. But do
• 1:05:11
Speaker 1: not heed such suggestions. Be guided absolutely and entirely by
• 1:05:17
Speaker 1: the vision of calmness, and not by the shadows of anxiety.
• 1:05:22
Speaker 1: The hour of calmness is the hour of illumination and
• 1:05:25
Speaker 1: correct judgment. By such a course of mental discipline. The
• 1:05:30
Speaker 1: scattered thought forces are reunited and directed, like the rays
• 1:05:35
Speaker 1: of the searchlight, upon the problem at issue, with the
• 1:05:39
Speaker 1: result that it gives way before them. There is no difficulty,
• 1:05:43
Speaker 1: however great, but will yield before a calm and powerful
• 1:05:47
Speaker 1: concentration of thought and no legitimate object, but may be
• 1:05:52
Speaker 1: speedily actualized by the intelligent use and direction of one's
• 1:05:56
Speaker 1: sole forces. Not until you have gone deeply and searchingly
• 1:06:01
Speaker 1: into your inner nature and have overcome many enemies that
• 1:06:05
Speaker 1: lurk there can you have any approximate conception of the
• 1:06:09
Speaker 1: subtle power of thought, of its inseparable relation to outward
• 1:06:13
Speaker 1: and material things, or of its magical potency when rightly
• 1:06:18
Speaker 1: poised and directed in readjusting and transforming the life conditions.
• 1:06:24
Speaker 1: Every thought you think is a force sent out, and
• 1:06:28
Speaker 1: in accordance with its nature and intensity, will go out
• 1:06:31
Speaker 1: to seek a lodgment in minds receptive to it, and
• 1:06:35
Speaker 1: will react upon yourself for good or evil. There is
• 1:06:39
Speaker 1: ceaseless reciprocy between mind and mind, and a continual interchange
• 1:06:44
Speaker 1: of thought forces. Selfish and disturbing thoughts are so many
• 1:06:50
Speaker 1: malignant and destructive forces messengers of evil send out to
• 1:06:55
Speaker 1: stimulate and augment the evil in other minds, which in
• 1:06:59
Speaker 1: turn send them back upon you with added power. While
• 1:07:03
Speaker 1: thoughts that are calm, pure and unselfish are so many
• 1:07:07
Speaker 1: angelic messengers sent out into the world with health, healing,
• 1:07:12
Speaker 1: and blessedness upon their wings, counteracting the evil forces, pouring
• 1:07:18
Speaker 1: the oil of joy upon the troubled waters of anxiety
• 1:07:21
Speaker 1: and sorrow, and restoring to broken hearts their heritage of immortality.
• 1:07:27
Speaker 1: Think good thoughts, and they will quickly become actualized in
• 1:07:31
Speaker 1: your outward life in the form of good conditions. Control
• 1:07:36
Speaker 1: your soul forces, and you will be able to shape
• 1:07:39
Speaker 1: your outward life as you will. The difference between a
• 1:07:43
Speaker 1: savior and a sinner is this, that the one has
• 1:07:46
Speaker 1: a perfect control of all the forces within him, the
• 1:07:50
Speaker 1: other is dominated and controlled by them. There is absolutely
• 1:07:55
Speaker 1: no other way to true power and abiding peace but
• 1:07:59
Speaker 1: by self control, self government, self purification. To be at
• 1:08:04
Speaker 1: the mercy of your disposition is to be impotent, unhappy,
• 1:08:09
Speaker 1: and of little real use in the world. The conquest
• 1:08:13
Speaker 1: of your petty likes and dislikes, your capricious loves and hates,
• 1:08:17
Speaker 1: your fits of anger, suspicion, jealousy, and all the changing
• 1:08:22
Speaker 1: moods to which you are more or less helplessly subject.
• 1:08:26
Speaker 1: This is the task you have before you. If you
• 1:08:29
Speaker 1: would weave into the web of life the golden threads
• 1:08:32
Speaker 1: of happiness and prosperity, in so far as you are
• 1:08:36
Speaker 1: enslaved by the changing moods within you, you will need
• 1:08:39
Speaker 1: to depend upon others and upon outward aids as you
• 1:08:43
Speaker 1: walk through life. If you would walk firmly and securely,
• 1:08:47
Speaker 1: and would accomplish any achievement, you must learn to rise
• 1:08:51
Speaker 1: above and control all such disturbing and retarding vibrations. You
• 1:08:57
Speaker 1: must daily practice the habit of putting your mind at rest,
• 1:09:00
Speaker 1: going into the silence, as it is commonly called. This
• 1:09:05
Speaker 1: is a method of replacing a troubled thought with one
• 1:09:08
Speaker 1: of peace, a thought of weakness with one of strength.
• 1:09:13
Speaker 1: Until you succeed in doing this, you cannot hope to
• 1:09:16
Speaker 1: direct your mental forces upon the problems and pursuits of
• 1:09:20
Speaker 1: life with any appreciable measure of success. It is a
• 1:09:24
Speaker 1: process of diverting one's scattered forces into one powerful channel,
• 1:09:30
Speaker 1: just as a useless marsh may be converted into a
• 1:09:33
Speaker 1: field of corn or a fruitful garden by draining and
• 1:09:37
Speaker 1: directing the scattered and harmful streams into one well cut channel.
• 1:09:42
Speaker 1: So he who acquires calmness and subdues and directs the
• 1:09:46
Speaker 1: thought currents within himself saves his soul and fructifies his
• 1:09:50
Speaker 1: heart and life. As you succeed in gaining mastery over
• 1:09:55
Speaker 1: your impulses and thoughts, you will begin to feel growing
• 1:09:59
Speaker 1: up within you you a new and silent power and
• 1:10:02
Speaker 1: a settled feeling of composure and strength will remain within you.
• 1:10:07
Speaker 1: Your latent powers will begin to unfold themselves, and whereas
• 1:10:12
Speaker 1: formerly your efforts were weak and ineffectual, you will now
• 1:10:16
Speaker 1: be able to work with that calm confidence which commands success.
• 1:10:20
Speaker 1: And along with this new power and strength, there will
• 1:10:24
Speaker 1: be awakened within you that interior illumination known as intuition,
• 1:10:29
Speaker 1: and you will walk no longer in darkness and speculation,
• 1:10:33
Speaker 1: but in light and certainty. With the development of this
• 1:10:37
Speaker 1: sole vision, judgment and mental penetration will be incalculably increased,
• 1:10:43
Speaker 1: and there will evolve within you that prophetic vision, by
• 1:10:47
Speaker 1: the aid of which you will be able to sense
• 1:10:49
Speaker 1: coming events and to forecast with remarkable accuracy the result
• 1:10:55
Speaker 1: of your efforts. And in just the measure that you
• 1:10:59
Speaker 1: alter from within, in will your outlook upon life alter
• 1:11:03
Speaker 1: and As you alter your mental attitude towards others, they
• 1:11:07
Speaker 1: will alter in their attitude and conduct towards you. As
• 1:11:11
Speaker 1: you rise above the lower, debilitating and destructive thought forces,
• 1:11:16
Speaker 1: you will come in contact with the positive, strengthening and
• 1:11:20
Speaker 1: upbuilding currents generated by strong, pure and noble minds. Your
• 1:11:26
Speaker 1: happiness will be immeasurably intensified, and you will begin to
• 1:11:30
Speaker 1: realize the joy, strength and power which are born only
• 1:11:34
Speaker 1: of self mastery. And this joy, strength and power will
• 1:11:39
Speaker 1: be continually radiating from you, and without any effort on
• 1:11:43
Speaker 1: your part, Nay, though you are utterly unconscious of it,
• 1:11:48
Speaker 1: strong people will be drawn towards you, influence will be
• 1:11:51
Speaker 1: put into your hands, and in accordance with your altered thought,
• 1:11:55
Speaker 1: world will outward events shape themselves. A man's foes are
• 1:12:01
Speaker 1: they of his own household, And he who would be useful, strong,
• 1:12:05
Speaker 1: and happy, must cease to be a passive receptacle for
• 1:12:09
Speaker 1: the negative, beggardly and impure streams of thought. And as
• 1:12:14
Speaker 1: a wise householder commands his servants and invites his guests,
• 1:12:18
Speaker 1: so must he learn to command his desires and to
• 1:12:21
Speaker 1: say with authority what thoughts he shall admit into the mansion.
• 1:12:26
Speaker 1: Of his soul. Even a very partial success in self
• 1:12:30
Speaker 1: mastery adds greatly to one's power. And he who succeeds
• 1:12:34
Speaker 1: in perfecting this divine accomplishment enters into possession of undreamed
• 1:12:38
Speaker 1: of wisdom and inward strength and peace, and realizes that
• 1:12:43
Speaker 1: all the forces of the universe aid and protect his footsteps.
• 1:12:47
Speaker 1: Who is master of his soul? Would you scale the
• 1:12:51
Speaker 1: highest heaven? Would you pierce the lowest hell? Live in
• 1:12:56
Speaker 1: dreams of constant beauty, or in basis thinking dwell? For
• 1:13:02
Speaker 1: your thoughts are heaven above you, and your thoughts are
• 1:13:05
Speaker 1: hell below. Bliss is not except in thinking. Torment not
• 1:13:10
Speaker 1: but thought can know. Worlds would vanish but for thinking.
• 1:13:16
Speaker 1: Glory is not but in dreams and the drama of
• 1:13:19
Speaker 1: the ages from the thought eternal streams. Dignity and shame
• 1:13:25
Speaker 1: and sorrow, pain and anguish, love and hate are but
• 1:13:30
Speaker 1: maskings of the mighty, pulsing thought that governs fate. As
• 1:13:35
Speaker 1: the colors of the rainbow makes the one uncolored beam,
• 1:13:40
Speaker 1: so the universal changes make the one eternal dream. And
• 1:13:45
Speaker 1: the dream is all within you. And the dreamer waiteth
• 1:13:49
Speaker 1: long for the morning to awaken him to the living
• 1:13:53
Speaker 1: thought and strong that shall make the idea real, Make
• 1:13:58
Speaker 1: to vanish dreams of hell in the highest, holiest heaven,
• 1:14:02
Speaker 1: where the pure and perfect dwell. Evil is the thought
• 1:14:06
Speaker 1: that thinks it good, the thought that makes it so
• 1:14:10
Speaker 1: light and darkness, sin and pureness. Likewise, out of thinking,
• 1:14:15
Speaker 1: grow dwell in thought upon the grandest and the grandest
• 1:14:20
Speaker 1: you shall see. Fix your mind upon the highest and
• 1:14:24
Speaker 1: the highest you shall be the secret of health, success,
• 1:14:30
Speaker 1: and power. We all remember with what intense delight. As
• 1:14:35
Speaker 1: children we listened to the never tiring fairy tale. How
• 1:14:40
Speaker 1: eagerly we followed the fluctuating fortunes of the good boy
• 1:14:44
Speaker 1: or girl, ever protected in the hour of crisis from
• 1:14:48
Speaker 1: the evil machinations of the scheming witch, the cruel giant,
• 1:14:53
Speaker 1: or the wicked king. And our little hearts never faltered
• 1:14:57
Speaker 1: for the fate of the hero or heroine, nor did
• 1:15:01
Speaker 1: we doubt their ultimate triumph over all their enemies, for
• 1:15:05
Speaker 1: we knew that the fairies were infallible, and that they
• 1:15:08
Speaker 1: would never desert those who had consecrated themselves to the
• 1:15:12
Speaker 1: good and the true. And what unspeakable joy pulsated within
• 1:15:17
Speaker 1: us when the fairy queen, bringing all her magic to
• 1:15:21
Speaker 1: bear at the critical moment scattered all the darkness and
• 1:15:24
Speaker 1: trouble and granted them the complete satisfaction of all their hopes,
• 1:15:29
Speaker 1: and they were happily ever after. With the accumulating years
• 1:15:35
Speaker 1: and an ever increasing intimacy with the so called realities
• 1:15:39
Speaker 1: of life, our beautiful fairy world became obliterated, and its
• 1:15:44
Speaker 1: wonderful inhabitants were relegated in the archives of memory to
• 1:15:49
Speaker 1: the shadowy and unreal. And we thought we were wise
• 1:15:53
Speaker 1: and strong in thus leaving forever the land of childish dreams.
• 1:15:59
Speaker 1: But as we reaped become little children in the wondrous
• 1:16:02
Speaker 1: world of wisdom, we shall return again to the inspiring
• 1:16:06
Speaker 1: dreams of childhood, and find that they are after all realities.
• 1:16:13
Speaker 1: The fairy folk, so small and nearly always invisible, yet
• 1:16:18
Speaker 1: possessed with an all conquering and magical power, who bestow
• 1:16:22
Speaker 1: upon the good health, wealth, and happiness, along with all
• 1:16:27
Speaker 1: the gifts of nature, in lavish profusion, start again into
• 1:16:31
Speaker 1: reality and become immortalized in the soul realm of him who,
• 1:16:36
Speaker 1: by the growth in wisdom, has entered into a knowledge
• 1:16:39
Speaker 1: of the power of thought and the laws which govern
• 1:16:43
Speaker 1: the inner world of being. To him, the fairies live
• 1:16:46
Speaker 1: again as thought, people, thought, messengers, thought powers working in
• 1:16:51
Speaker 1: harmony with the overruling good. And they who day by
• 1:16:56
Speaker 1: day endeavor to harmonize their hearts with the heart of
• 1:17:00
Speaker 1: the supreme good, do in reality acquire true health, wealth,
• 1:17:05
Speaker 1: and happiness. There is no protection to compare with goodness.
• 1:17:11
Speaker 1: And by goodness, I do not mean a mere outward
• 1:17:13
Speaker 1: conformity to the rules of mortality. I mean pure thought,
• 1:17:19
Speaker 1: noble aspiration, unselfish love, and freedom from vainglory. To dwell
• 1:17:25
Speaker 1: continually in good thoughts is to throw around oneself a
• 1:17:29
Speaker 1: psychic atmosphere of sweetness and power, which leaves its impress
• 1:17:34
Speaker 1: upon all who come in contact with it. As the
• 1:17:38
Speaker 1: rising sun puts to route the helpless shadows, so are
• 1:17:42
Speaker 1: all the impotent forces of evil put to flight by
• 1:17:46
Speaker 1: the searching rays of positive thought, which shine forth from
• 1:17:50
Speaker 1: a heart made strong in purity and faith. Where there
• 1:17:54
Speaker 1: is sterling faith, in uncompromising purity, there is health, there
• 1:17:59
Speaker 1: is success. There is power. In such a one, Disease, failure,
• 1:18:05
Speaker 1: and disaster can find no lodgment, for there is nothing
• 1:18:09
Speaker 1: on which they can feed. Even physical conditions are largely
• 1:18:14
Speaker 1: determined by mental states. And to this truth, the scientific
• 1:18:18
Speaker 1: world is rapidly being drawn. The old materialistic belief that
• 1:18:24
Speaker 1: a man is what his body makes him is rapidly
• 1:18:27
Speaker 1: passing away, and is being replaced by the inspiring belief
• 1:18:31
Speaker 1: that man is superior to his body, and that his
• 1:18:35
Speaker 1: body is what he makes it. By the power of thought,
• 1:18:39
Speaker 1: men everywhere are ceasing to believe that a man is
• 1:18:42
Speaker 1: despairing because he is dyspeptic, and are coming to understand
• 1:18:47
Speaker 1: that he is dyspeptic because he is despairing. And in
• 1:18:51
Speaker 1: the near future the fact that all disease has its
• 1:18:54
Speaker 1: origin in the mind will become common knowledge. There is
• 1:18:59
Speaker 1: no evil in the universe, but has its root and
• 1:19:02
Speaker 1: origin in the mind. And sin, sickness, sorrow, and affliction
• 1:19:08
Speaker 1: do not, in reality belong to the universal order, are
• 1:19:12
Speaker 1: not inherent in the nature of things, but are the
• 1:19:15
Speaker 1: direct outcome of our ignorance of the right relation of things.
• 1:19:20
Speaker 1: According to tradition, there once lived in India a school
• 1:19:25
Speaker 1: of philosophers who led a life of such absolute purity
• 1:19:29
Speaker 1: and simplicity that they commonly reach the age of one
• 1:19:32
Speaker 1: hundred fifty years, and to fall sick was looked upon
• 1:19:36
Speaker 1: by them as an unpardonable disgrace, for it was considered
• 1:19:41
Speaker 1: to indicate a violation of law. The sooner we realize
• 1:19:45
Speaker 1: and acknowledge that sickness, far from being the arbitrary visitation
• 1:19:49
Speaker 1: of an offended God or the test of an unwise providence,
• 1:19:54
Speaker 1: is the result of our own error or sin, the
• 1:19:57
Speaker 1: sooner we shall enter upon the highway of health. Disease
• 1:20:01
Speaker 1: comes to those who attract it, to those whose minds
• 1:20:04
Speaker 1: and bodies are receptive to it, and flees from those
• 1:20:08
Speaker 1: whose strong, pure and positive thoughts. Sphere generates healing and
• 1:20:13
Speaker 1: life giving currents. If you are given to anger, worry, jealousy, greed,
• 1:20:21
Speaker 1: or any other inharmonious state of mind and expect perfect
• 1:20:25
Speaker 1: physical health, you are expecting the impossible, for you are
• 1:20:29
Speaker 1: continually sowing the seeds of disease in your mind. Such
• 1:20:34
Speaker 1: conditions of mind are carefully shunned by the wise man,
• 1:20:37
Speaker 1: for he knows them to be far more dangerous than
• 1:20:40
Speaker 1: a bad drain or an infected house. If you would
• 1:20:44
Speaker 1: be free from all physical aches and pains, and would
• 1:20:48
Speaker 1: enjoy perfect physical harmony, then put your mind in order
• 1:20:52
Speaker 1: and harmonize your thoughts. Think joyful thoughts, think loving thoughts.
• 1:20:59
Speaker 1: Let the elixir of good will course through your veins,
• 1:21:02
Speaker 1: and you will need no other medicine. Put away your jealousies,
• 1:21:06
Speaker 1: your suspicions, your worries, your hatreds, your selfish indulgences, and
• 1:21:13
Speaker 1: you will put away your dyspepsia, your biliousness, your nervousness,
• 1:21:18
Speaker 1: and aching joints. If you will persist in clinging to
• 1:21:22
Speaker 1: these dehabilitating and demoralizing habits of mind, then do not
• 1:21:26
Speaker 1: claim when your body is laid low with sickness. The
• 1:21:30
Speaker 1: following story illustrates the close relation that exists between habits
• 1:21:35
Speaker 1: of mind and bodily conditions. A certain man was afflicted
• 1:21:40
Speaker 1: with a painful disease, and he tried one physician after another,
• 1:21:44
Speaker 1: but all to no purpose. He then visited towns which
• 1:21:48
Speaker 1: were famous for their curative waters, and after having bathed
• 1:21:52
Speaker 1: in them all his disease was more painful than ever.
• 1:21:56
Speaker 1: One night he dreamed that a presence came to him
• 1:21:59
Speaker 1: and said, brother, hast thou tried all the means of cure,
• 1:22:05
Speaker 1: And he replied, I have tried all. Nay, said the presence,
• 1:22:10
Speaker 1: come with me, and I will show thee a healing
• 1:22:13
Speaker 1: bath which has escaped thy Notice the afflicted man followed,
• 1:22:18
Speaker 1: and the presence led him to a clear pool of water,
• 1:22:22
Speaker 1: and said, plunge thyself in this water, and thou shalt
• 1:22:26
Speaker 1: surely recover, And thereupon vanished. The man plunged into the water,
• 1:22:33
Speaker 1: and on coming out lo his disease had left him,
• 1:22:37
Speaker 1: And at the same moment he saw written above the
• 1:22:39
Speaker 1: pool the word renounce. Upon waking, the full meaning of
• 1:22:45
Speaker 1: his dream flashed across his mind, and looking within, he
• 1:22:49
Speaker 1: discovered that he had all along been a victim to
• 1:22:53
Speaker 1: a sinful indulgence, and he vowed that he would renounce
• 1:22:56
Speaker 1: it forever. He carried out his vow, and from that
• 1:23:00
Speaker 1: day his affliction began to leave him, and in a
• 1:23:04
Speaker 1: short time he was completely restored to health. Many people
• 1:23:08
Speaker 1: complain that they have broken down through over work. In
• 1:23:12
Speaker 1: the majority of such cases, the breakdown is more frequently
• 1:23:15
Speaker 1: the result of foolishly wasted energy. If you would secure health,
• 1:23:21
Speaker 1: you must learn to work without friction. To become anxious
• 1:23:25
Speaker 1: or excited, or to worry over needless details, is to
• 1:23:29
Speaker 1: invite a breakdown. Work, whether of brain or body, is
• 1:23:35
Speaker 1: beneficial in health giving, and the man who can work
• 1:23:38
Speaker 1: with a steady and calm persistency, free from all anxiety
• 1:23:42
Speaker 1: and worry, and with his mind utterly oblivious to all
• 1:23:46
Speaker 1: but the work he has in hand, will not only
• 1:23:49
Speaker 1: accomplish far more than the man who is always hurried
• 1:23:52
Speaker 1: and anxious, but he will retain his health, a boon
• 1:23:56
Speaker 1: which the other quickly forfeits. True health and true success
• 1:24:01
Speaker 1: go together, for they are inseparably intertwined in the thought realm.
• 1:24:06
Speaker 1: As mental harmony produces bodily health, so it also leads
• 1:24:10
Speaker 1: to a harmonious sequence in the actual working out of
• 1:24:13
Speaker 1: one's plans. Order your thoughts, and you will order your life.
• 1:24:19
Speaker 1: Pour the oil of tranquility upon the turbulent waters of
• 1:24:23
Speaker 1: the passions and prejudices, And the temptests of misfortune, howsoever
• 1:24:28
Speaker 1: they may threaten, will be powerless to wreck the bark
• 1:24:31
Speaker 1: of your soul as it threads its way across the
• 1:24:35
Speaker 1: ocean of life. And if that bark be piloted by
• 1:24:39
Speaker 1: a cheerful and never failing faith, its course will be
• 1:24:42
Speaker 1: doubly sure, and many perils will pass it by which
• 1:24:46
Speaker 1: would otherwise attack it. By the power of faith, every
• 1:24:51
Speaker 1: enduring work is accomplished faith in the supreme faith in
• 1:24:55
Speaker 1: the overruling law, faith in your work and in your
• 1:24:59
Speaker 1: power or to accomplish that work. Here is the rock
• 1:25:03
Speaker 1: upon which you must build, if you would achieve, if
• 1:25:06
Speaker 1: you would stand and not fall, to follow, under all
• 1:25:10
Speaker 1: circumstances the highest promptings within you, to be always true
• 1:25:15
Speaker 1: to the divine Self, to rely upon the inward light,
• 1:25:19
Speaker 1: the inward voice, and to pursue your purpose with a
• 1:25:22
Speaker 1: fearless and RESTful heart, believing that the future will yield
• 1:25:27
Speaker 1: unto you the meed of every thought and effort, knowing
• 1:25:31
Speaker 1: that the laws of the universe can never fail, and
• 1:25:34
Speaker 1: that your own will come back to you with mathematical exactitude.
• 1:25:38
Speaker 1: This is faith and the living of faith. By the
• 1:25:42
Speaker 1: power of such faith, the dark waters of uncertainty are divided,
• 1:25:47
Speaker 1: every mountain of difficulty crumbles away, and the believing soul
• 1:25:51
Speaker 1: passes on unharmed. Strive, o, reader, to acquire above everything,
• 1:25:58
Speaker 1: the priceless possession of this dauntless faith, For it is
• 1:26:02
Speaker 1: the talesmen of happiness, of success, of peace, of power,
• 1:26:07
Speaker 1: of all that makes life great and superior to suffering.
• 1:26:12
Speaker 1: Build upon such a faith, and you build upon the
• 1:26:15
Speaker 1: rock of the eternal, and with the materials of the
• 1:26:18
Speaker 1: eternal and the structure that you erect will never be dissolved,
• 1:26:23
Speaker 1: for it will transcend all the accumulations of material luxuries
• 1:26:27
Speaker 1: and riches, the end of which is dust. Whether you
• 1:26:31
Speaker 1: are hurled into the depths of sorrow or lifted upon
• 1:26:35
Speaker 1: the heights of joy, ever retain your hold upon this faith,
• 1:26:40
Speaker 1: Ever return to it as your rock of refuge, and
• 1:26:43
Speaker 1: keep your feet firmly planted upon its immortal and immovable base.
• 1:26:49
Speaker 1: Centered in such a faith, you will become possessed of
• 1:26:52
Speaker 1: such a spiritual strength as will shatter, like so many
• 1:26:56
Speaker 1: toys of glass, all the forces of evil that are
• 1:26:59
Speaker 1: hurled in against you, and you will achieve a success
• 1:27:03
Speaker 1: such as the mere striver after worldly gain can never
• 1:27:07
Speaker 1: know or even dream of. If ye have faith and
• 1:27:11
Speaker 1: doubt not, ye shall not only do this, but if
• 1:27:15
Speaker 1: ye shall say, unto this mountain, be thou removed, and
• 1:27:19
Speaker 1: be thou cast into the sea, it shall be done.
• 1:27:24
Speaker 1: There are those to day, men and women, tabernacled in
• 1:27:28
Speaker 1: flesh and blood, who have realized this faith, and who
• 1:27:32
Speaker 1: live in it day by day, and who, having put
• 1:27:35
Speaker 1: it to the uttermost test, have entered into the possession
• 1:27:39
Speaker 1: of its glory and peace. Such have sent out the
• 1:27:42
Speaker 1: word of command, and the mountains of sorrow and disappointment,
• 1:27:46
Speaker 1: of mental weariness and physical pain have passed from them
• 1:27:50
Speaker 1: and have been cast into the sea of oblivion. If
• 1:27:54
Speaker 1: you would become possessed of this faith, you will not
• 1:27:57
Speaker 1: need to trouble about your success or failure, and success
• 1:28:01
Speaker 1: will come. You will not need to become anxious about results,
• 1:28:05
Speaker 1: but will work joyfully and peacefully, knowing that right thoughts
• 1:28:09
Speaker 1: and right efforts will inevitably bring about right results. I
• 1:28:14
Speaker 1: know a lady who has entered into many blissful satisfactions,
• 1:28:18
Speaker 1: and recently a friend remarked to her, Oh, how fortunate
• 1:28:22
Speaker 1: you are. You only have to wish for a thing
• 1:28:25
Speaker 1: and it comes to you. And it did indeed appear
• 1:28:29
Speaker 1: so on the surface. But in reality, all the blessedness
• 1:28:32
Speaker 1: that has entered into this woman's life is the direct
• 1:28:36
Speaker 1: outcome of the inward state of blessedness which she has
• 1:28:39
Speaker 1: throughout life been cultivating and training toward perfection. Mere wishing
• 1:28:45
Speaker 1: brings nothing but disappointment. It is living that tells the
• 1:28:50
Speaker 1: foolish wish and grumble. The wise work and wait. And
• 1:28:54
Speaker 1: this woman had worked, worked without and within, but especially
• 1:28:59
Speaker 1: with it in upon heart and soul, and with the
• 1:29:03
Speaker 1: invisible hands of the spirit. She had built up with
• 1:29:07
Speaker 1: the precious stones of faith, hope, joy, devotion, and love,
• 1:29:12
Speaker 1: a fair temple of light, whose glorifying radiance was ever
• 1:29:16
Speaker 1: round about her. It beamed in her eye, it shone
• 1:29:20
Speaker 1: through her countenance, it vibrated in her voice, and all
• 1:29:25
Speaker 1: who came into her presence felt its captivating spell. And
• 1:29:29
Speaker 1: as with her, so with you, your success, your failure,
• 1:29:34
Speaker 1: your influence, your whole life. You carry about with you,
• 1:29:38
Speaker 1: for your dominant trends of thought are the determining factors
• 1:29:42
Speaker 1: in your destiny. Send forth, loving, stainless, and happy thoughts
• 1:29:48
Speaker 1: and blessings will fall into your hands, and your table
• 1:29:52
Speaker 1: will be spread with the cloth of peace. Send forth, hateful, impure,
• 1:29:57
Speaker 1: and unhappy thoughts and curses will rain down upon you,
• 1:30:01
Speaker 1: and fear and unrest will wait upon your pillow. You
• 1:30:05
Speaker 1: are the unconditional maker of your fate. Be that fate
• 1:30:08
Speaker 1: what it may. Every moment you are sending forth from
• 1:30:12
Speaker 1: you the influences which will make or mar your life.
• 1:30:16
Speaker 1: Let your heart grow large and loving and unselfish, and
• 1:30:20
Speaker 1: great and lasting will be your influence and success, even
• 1:30:24
Speaker 1: though you make little money, confine it within the narrow
• 1:30:28
Speaker 1: limits of self interest, and even though you become a millionaire,
• 1:30:32
Speaker 1: your influence and success at the final reckoning will be
• 1:30:36
Speaker 1: found to be utterly insignificant. Cultivate then, this pure and
• 1:30:41
Speaker 1: unselfish spirit, and combine with purity and faith, singleness of purpose,
• 1:30:47
Speaker 1: and you are evolving from within the elements not only
• 1:30:51
Speaker 1: of abounding health and enduring success, but of greatness and power.
• 1:30:57
Speaker 1: If your present position is distasteful to you, and your
• 1:31:00
Speaker 1: heart is not in your work, nevertheless, perform your duties
• 1:31:04
Speaker 1: with scrupulous diligence, and whilst resting your mind in the
• 1:31:08
Speaker 1: idea that a better position and greater opportunities are waiting
• 1:31:12
Speaker 1: for you. Ever, keep an active mental outlook for budding possibilities,
• 1:31:18
Speaker 1: so that when the critical moment arrives and the new
• 1:31:21
Speaker 1: channel presents itself, you will step into it with your
• 1:31:25
Speaker 1: mind fully prepared for the undertaking, and with that intelligence
• 1:31:29
Speaker 1: and foresight which is born of mental discipline. Whatever your
• 1:31:33
Speaker 1: task may be, concentrate your whole mind upon it, throw
• 1:31:37
Speaker 1: into it all the energy of which you are capable.
• 1:31:41
Speaker 1: The faultless completion of small tasks leads inevitably to larger tasks.
• 1:31:47
Speaker 1: See to it that you rise by steadily climbing, and
• 1:31:50
Speaker 1: you will never fall. And herein lies the secret of
• 1:31:53
Speaker 1: true power. Learn by consistent practice how to husband your
• 1:31:59
Speaker 1: recent and to concentrate them at any moment upon a
• 1:32:04
Speaker 1: given point. The foolish waste all their mental and spiritual
• 1:32:08
Speaker 1: energy and frivelty, foolish chatter or selfish argument, not to
• 1:32:14
Speaker 1: mention wasteful physical excesses. If you would acquire overcoming power,
• 1:32:19
Speaker 1: you must cultivate poise and passivity. You must be able
• 1:32:23
Speaker 1: to stand alone. All power is associated with a moveability.
• 1:32:29
Speaker 1: The mountain, the massive rock, the storm tried oak all
• 1:32:34
Speaker 1: speak to us of power because of their combined solitary
• 1:32:37
Speaker 1: grandeur and defiant fixity, while the shifting sand, the yielding twig,
• 1:32:44
Speaker 1: and the wavering reed speak to us of weakness because
• 1:32:48
Speaker 1: they are movable and non resistant, and are utterly useless
• 1:32:51
Speaker 1: when detached from their fellows. He is the man of power, who,
• 1:32:56
Speaker 1: when all his fellows are swayed by some emotion or passion,
• 1:33:00
Speaker 1: remains calm and unmoved. He only is fitted to command
• 1:33:04
Speaker 1: and control, who has succeeded in commanding and controlling himself.
• 1:33:10
Speaker 1: The hysterical, the fearful, the thoughtless, and frivolous. Let such
• 1:33:15
Speaker 1: seek company, for they will fall for lack of support.
• 1:33:19
Speaker 1: But the calm, the fearless, the thoughtful, and let such
• 1:33:23
Speaker 1: seek the solitude of the forest, the desert, and the
• 1:33:27
Speaker 1: mountain top. And to their power more power will be added,
• 1:33:31
Speaker 1: and they will more and more successfully stem the psychic
• 1:33:34
Speaker 1: currents and whirlpools which engulf mankind. Passion is not power,
• 1:33:40
Speaker 1: It is the abuse of power, the dispersion of power.
• 1:33:44
Speaker 1: Passion is like a furious storm which beats fiercely and
• 1:33:48
Speaker 1: wildly upon the embattled rock, while his power is like
• 1:33:52
Speaker 1: the rock itself, which remains silent and unmoved through it all.
• 1:33:57
Speaker 1: That was a manifestation of true power. When Martin Luther,
• 1:34:02
Speaker 1: wearied with the persuasions of his fearful friends who were
• 1:34:05
Speaker 1: doubtful as to his safety, should he go to worms, replied,
• 1:34:10
Speaker 1: if there were as many devils in worms as there
• 1:34:12
Speaker 1: are tiles on the housetops, I would go. And when
• 1:34:16
Speaker 1: Benjamin Disraeli broke down in his first parliamentary speech and
• 1:34:21
Speaker 1: brought upon himself the derision of the House, that was
• 1:34:25
Speaker 1: an exhibition of germinal power. When he exclaimed the day
• 1:34:29
Speaker 1: will come when you will consider it an honor to
• 1:34:32
Speaker 1: listen to me. When that young man whom I knew,
• 1:34:36
Speaker 1: passing through continual reverses and misfortunes, was mocked by his
• 1:34:40
Speaker 1: friends and told to desist from further effort, and he replied,
• 1:34:46
Speaker 1: the time is not far distant when you will marvel
• 1:34:49
Speaker 1: at my good fortune and success. He showed that he
• 1:34:52
Speaker 1: possessed of that silent and irresistible power which has taken
• 1:34:57
Speaker 1: him over innumerable difficulties and crown his life with success.
• 1:35:02
Speaker 1: If you have not this power, you may acquire it
• 1:35:05
Speaker 1: by practice. And the beginning of power is likewise the
• 1:35:09
Speaker 1: beginning of wisdom. You must commence by overcoming those purposeless
• 1:35:14
Speaker 1: trivialities to which you have hitherto been a willing victim.
• 1:35:19
Speaker 1: Boisterous and uncontrolled laughter, slander and idle talk, and joking
• 1:35:24
Speaker 1: merely to raise a laugh. All these things must be
• 1:35:28
Speaker 1: put on one side, as so much waste of valuable energy.
• 1:35:33
Speaker 1: Saint Paul never showed his wondrous insight into the hidden
• 1:35:36
Speaker 1: laws of human progress to greater advantage than when he
• 1:35:40
Speaker 1: warned the Ephesians against foolish talking and jesting, which is
• 1:35:45
Speaker 1: not convenient for to dwell habitually in such practices is
• 1:35:49
Speaker 1: to destroy all spiritual power in life. As you succeed
• 1:35:53
Speaker 1: in rendering yourself impervious to such mental dissipations, you will
• 1:35:58
Speaker 1: begin to understand what true power is. And you will
• 1:36:02
Speaker 1: then commence to grapple with the more powerful desires and
• 1:36:05
Speaker 1: appetites which hold your soul in bondage and bar the
• 1:36:09
Speaker 1: way to power, and your further progress will then be
• 1:36:12
Speaker 1: made clear. Above all, be of single aim. Have a
• 1:36:16
Speaker 1: legitimate and useful purpose, and devote yourself unreservedly to it.
• 1:36:22
Speaker 1: Let nothing draw you aside. Remember that the double minded
• 1:36:26
Speaker 1: man is unstable in all his ways. Be eager to learn,
• 1:36:31
Speaker 1: but slow to beg Have a thorough understanding of your work,
• 1:36:36
Speaker 1: and let it be your own. And as you proceed
• 1:36:39
Speaker 1: ever following the inward guide, the infallible voice, you will
• 1:36:43
Speaker 1: pass on from victory to victory, and will rise step
• 1:36:47
Speaker 1: by step to higher resting places, and your ever broadening
• 1:36:51
Speaker 1: outlook will gradually reveal to you the essential beauty and
• 1:36:55
Speaker 1: purpose of life. Self purified health will be yours, faith
• 1:37:02
Speaker 1: protected success will be yours. Self governed power will be yours,
• 1:37:09
Speaker 1: and all that you do will prosper For ceasing to
• 1:37:13
Speaker 1: be a disjointed unit, self enslaved, you will be in
• 1:37:17
Speaker 1: harmony with the great Law, working no longer against but
• 1:37:21
Speaker 1: with the universal life, the eternal good. And what health
• 1:37:26
Speaker 1: you gain it will remain with you. What success you
• 1:37:29
Speaker 1: achieve will be beyond all human computation and will never
• 1:37:34
Speaker 1: pass away. And what influence and power you wield will
• 1:37:38
Speaker 1: continue to increase throughout the ages, for it will be
• 1:37:42
Speaker 1: a part of that unchangeable principle which supports the universe. This, then,
• 1:37:48
Speaker 1: is the secret of health. A pure heart and a
• 1:37:50
Speaker 1: well ordered mind, This is the secret of success. An
• 1:37:55
Speaker 1: unfaltering faith, and a wisely directed purpose. And to reign
• 1:38:00
Speaker 1: in with unfaltering will the dark steed of desire. This
• 1:38:05
Speaker 1: is the secret of power. All ways are waiting for
• 1:38:09
Speaker 1: my feet to tread the light and dark, the living
• 1:38:13
Speaker 1: and the dead, the broad and narrow way, the high
• 1:38:16
Speaker 1: and low, the good and bad. And with quick step
• 1:38:20
Speaker 1: or slow I now may enter any way I will
• 1:38:24
Speaker 1: and find by walking which is good, which ill, and
• 1:38:29
Speaker 1: all good things. My wandering feet await. If I but
• 1:38:33
Speaker 1: come with my vow and violate unto the narrow, high
• 1:38:38
Speaker 1: and holy way of heart born purity, and therein stay
• 1:38:43
Speaker 1: walking secure from him who taunts and scorns, to flowery
• 1:38:48
Speaker 1: meads across the path of thorns, and I may stand
• 1:38:53
Speaker 1: where health, success, and power await my coming. If each
• 1:38:57
Speaker 1: fleeting hour I cling to love and patience, and abide
• 1:39:02
Speaker 1: with stainlessness, and never step aside from high integrity, so
• 1:39:07
Speaker 1: shall I see at last the land of immortality. And
• 1:39:11
Speaker 1: I may seek and find, I may achieve. I may
• 1:39:16
Speaker 1: not claim, but losing may retrieve. The law bends not
• 1:39:21
Speaker 1: for me, but I must bend unto the law. If
• 1:39:24
Speaker 1: I would reach the end of my afflictions, if I
• 1:39:27
Speaker 1: would restore my soul to light and life, and weep
• 1:39:31
Speaker 1: no more. Not mind the arrogant and selfish claim to
• 1:39:36
Speaker 1: all good things, be mind the lowly, aim to seek
• 1:39:40
Speaker 1: and find, to know and comprehend, and wisdom ward all
• 1:39:45
Speaker 1: holy footsteps wend. Nothing is mine to claim or to command,
• 1:39:51
Speaker 1: but all is mine to know and understand the secret
• 1:39:56
Speaker 1: of abounding happiness. Great is the thirst for happiness, and
• 1:40:02
Speaker 1: equally great is the lack of happiness. The majority of
• 1:40:06
Speaker 1: the poor long for riches, believing that their possession would
• 1:40:10
Speaker 1: bring them supreme and lasting happiness. Many who are rich
• 1:40:16
Speaker 1: having gratified every desire and whim, suffer from anu and repletion,
• 1:40:22
Speaker 1: and are farther from the possession of happiness even than
• 1:40:25
Speaker 1: the very poor. If we reflect upon this state of things,
• 1:40:30
Speaker 1: it will ultimately lead us to a knowledge of the
• 1:40:32
Speaker 1: all important truth that happiness is not derived from mere
• 1:40:36
Speaker 1: outward possessions, nor misery from the lack of them. For
• 1:40:41
Speaker 1: if this were so, we should find the poor always
• 1:40:44
Speaker 1: miserable and the rich always happy, whereas the reverse is
• 1:40:48
Speaker 1: frequently the case. Some of the most wretched people whom
• 1:40:53
Speaker 1: I have known were those who were surrounded with riches
• 1:40:56
Speaker 1: and luxury, while as some of the brightest and happiest
• 1:40:59
Speaker 1: people I have met were possessed of only the barest
• 1:41:02
Speaker 1: necessities of life. Many men who have accumulated riches have
• 1:41:08
Speaker 1: confessed that the selfish gratification which followed the acquisition of
• 1:41:12
Speaker 1: riches has robbed life of its sweetness, and that they
• 1:41:16
Speaker 1: were never so happy as when they were poor. What then,
• 1:41:20
Speaker 1: is happiness and how is it to be secured? Is
• 1:41:24
Speaker 1: it a figment a delusion? And is suffering alone perennial?
• 1:41:29
Speaker 1: We shall find, after earnest observation and reflection, that all
• 1:41:35
Speaker 1: except those who have entered the way of wisdom, believe
• 1:41:38
Speaker 1: that happiness is only to be obtained by the gratification
• 1:41:41
Speaker 1: of desire. It is this belief, rooted in the soil
• 1:41:46
Speaker 1: of ignorance and continually watered by selfish cravings, that is
• 1:41:51
Speaker 1: the cause of all the misery in the world. And
• 1:41:54
Speaker 1: I do not limit the word desire to the grosser
• 1:41:57
Speaker 1: animal cravings. It extends to the high psychic realm. We're
• 1:42:01
Speaker 1: far more powerful. Subtle and insiduous cravings hold in bondage
• 1:42:07
Speaker 1: the intellectual and refined, depriving them of all that beauty, harmony,
• 1:42:12
Speaker 1: and purity of soul whose expression is happiness. Most people
• 1:42:18
Speaker 1: will admit that selfishness is the cause of all the
• 1:42:21
Speaker 1: unhappiness in the world, but they fall under the soul
• 1:42:24
Speaker 1: destroying delusion that it is somebody else's selfishness and not
• 1:42:29
Speaker 1: their own. When you are willing to admit that all
• 1:42:32
Speaker 1: your unhappiness is the result of your own selfishness, you
• 1:42:36
Speaker 1: will not be far from the gates of paradise. But
• 1:42:39
Speaker 1: so long as you are convinced that it is the
• 1:42:42
Speaker 1: selfishness of others that is robbing you of joy, so
• 1:42:46
Speaker 1: long will you remain a prisoner in your own self created.
• 1:42:49
Speaker 1: Purgatory happiness is that inward state of perfect satisfaction, which
• 1:42:55
Speaker 1: is joy and peace, and from which all desire is eliminated.
• 1:43:00
Speaker 1: The satisfaction which results from gratified desire is brief and illusionary,
• 1:43:06
Speaker 1: and is always followed by an increased demand for gratification.
• 1:43:10
Speaker 1: Desire is as insatiable as the ocean, and clamors louder
• 1:43:15
Speaker 1: and louder as its demands are attended to. It claims
• 1:43:19
Speaker 1: ever increasing service from its deluded devotees, until at last
• 1:43:24
Speaker 1: they are struck down with physical or mental anguish and
• 1:43:28
Speaker 1: are hurled into the purifying fires of suffering. Desire is
• 1:43:32
Speaker 1: the reign of Hell, and all torments are centered there.
• 1:43:37
Speaker 1: The giving up of desire is the realization of Heaven,
• 1:43:40
Speaker 1: and all delights await the pilgrim there. I sent my
• 1:43:45
Speaker 1: soul through the invisible some letter of that after life
• 1:43:49
Speaker 1: to spell, and by and by my soul returned to
• 1:43:52
Speaker 1: me and whispered, I myself am Heaven and Hell. Heaven
• 1:43:59
Speaker 1: and Hell are inward states. Sink into self in all
• 1:44:03
Speaker 1: its gratifications, and you sink into Hell. Rise above self,
• 1:44:08
Speaker 1: into that state of consciousness which is the utter denial
• 1:44:11
Speaker 1: and forgetfulness of self, and you enter heaven. Self is blind,
• 1:44:16
Speaker 1: without judgment, not possessed of true knowledge, and always leads
• 1:44:21
Speaker 1: to suffering. Correct perception, unbiased judgment, and true knowledge belong
• 1:44:27
Speaker 1: only to the divine state. And only in so far
• 1:44:30
Speaker 1: as you realize this divine consciousness can you know what
• 1:44:34
Speaker 1: real happiness is. So long as you persist in selfishly
• 1:44:39
Speaker 1: seeking for your own personal happiness, so long will happiness
• 1:44:43
Speaker 1: elude you, and you will be sowing the seeds of wretchedness.
• 1:44:48
Speaker 1: In so far as you succeed in losing yourself in
• 1:44:51
Speaker 1: the service of others, in that measure, will happiness come
• 1:44:55
Speaker 1: to you, and you will reap a harvest of bliss.
• 1:44:59
Speaker 1: It is in life, not in being loved, the heart
• 1:45:03
Speaker 1: is blessed. It is in giving, not in seeking gifts.
• 1:45:07
Speaker 1: We find our quest. Whatever be thy longing, o'er thy
• 1:45:12
Speaker 1: need that do thou give, so shall thy soul be fed?
• 1:45:17
Speaker 1: And thou indeed shalt truly live. Cling to self, and
• 1:45:23
Speaker 1: you cling to sorrow. Relinquish self, and you enter into peace.
• 1:45:28
Speaker 1: To seek selfishly is not only to lose happiness, but
• 1:45:32
Speaker 1: even that which we believe to be the source of happiness.
• 1:45:36
Speaker 1: See how the glutton is continually looking about for a
• 1:45:40
Speaker 1: new delicacy wherewith to stimulate his deadened appetite, and how bloated, burdened,
• 1:45:47
Speaker 1: and diseased, scarcely any food at last is eaten with pleasure.
• 1:45:52
Speaker 1: Whereas he who has mastered his appetite and not only
• 1:45:56
Speaker 1: does not seek, but never thinks of gustatory pleasure, finds
• 1:46:01
Speaker 1: delight in the most frugal meal, the angel form of
• 1:46:05
Speaker 1: happiness which men looking through the eyes of self, imagine
• 1:46:10
Speaker 1: they see in gratified desire. When clasp is always found
• 1:46:15
Speaker 1: to be the skeleton of misery. Truly, he that seeketh
• 1:46:20
Speaker 1: his life shall lose it, and he that loseth his
• 1:46:23
Speaker 1: life shall find it. Abiding happiness will come to you
• 1:46:28
Speaker 1: when ceasing to selfishly cling, you are willing to give up,
• 1:46:33
Speaker 1: When you are willing to lose unreserveably that impermanent thing
• 1:46:38
Speaker 1: which is so dear to you, and which, whether you
• 1:46:40
Speaker 1: cling to it or not, will one day be snatched
• 1:46:44
Speaker 1: from you, then you will find that that which seemed
• 1:46:47
Speaker 1: to you like a painful loss turns out to be
• 1:46:50
Speaker 1: a supreme gain. To give up in order to gain
• 1:46:55
Speaker 1: than this, there is no greater delusion, nor no more
• 1:46:58
Speaker 1: prolific source of minsis ury. But to be willing to
• 1:47:02
Speaker 1: yield up and to suffer loss. This is indeed the
• 1:47:05
Speaker 1: way of life. How is it possible to find real
• 1:47:09
Speaker 1: happiness by centering ourselves in those things which, by their
• 1:47:14
Speaker 1: very nature must pass away? Abiding in real happiness can
• 1:47:19
Speaker 1: only be found by centering ourselves and that which is permanent.
• 1:47:24
Speaker 1: Rise therefore above the clinging to and the craving for
• 1:47:28
Speaker 1: and permanent things, and you will then enter into a
• 1:47:31
Speaker 1: consciousness of the eternal and as rising above self. And
• 1:47:36
Speaker 1: by growing more and more into the spirit of purity,
• 1:47:39
Speaker 1: self sacrifice, and universal love, you become centered. In that consciousness,
• 1:47:45
Speaker 1: you will realize that happiness, which has no reaction, and
• 1:47:50
Speaker 1: which can never be taken from you. The heart that
• 1:47:53
Speaker 1: has reached utter self forgetfulness and its love for others,
• 1:47:58
Speaker 1: has not only become possessed of the high happiness, but
• 1:48:01
Speaker 1: has entered into immortality, for it has realized the divine.
• 1:48:07
Speaker 1: Look back upon your life, and you will find that
• 1:48:10
Speaker 1: the moments of supremest happiness were those in which you
• 1:48:13
Speaker 1: uttered some word or perform some act of compassion or
• 1:48:18
Speaker 1: self denying love. Spiritually, happiness and harmony are synonymous harmony
• 1:48:27
Speaker 1: is one phase of the Great Law, whose spiritual expression
• 1:48:31
Speaker 1: is love. All selfishness is discord, and to be selfish
• 1:48:35
Speaker 1: is to be out of harmony with the divine order.
• 1:48:39
Speaker 1: As we realize that all embracing love, which is the
• 1:48:43
Speaker 1: negation of self, we put ourselves in harmony with the
• 1:48:46
Speaker 1: divine music, the universal song, and that ineffable melody, which
• 1:48:52
Speaker 1: is true, happiness becomes our own. Men and women are
• 1:48:57
Speaker 1: rushing hither and thither in the blood search for happiness,
• 1:49:01
Speaker 1: and cannot find it, nor ever will until they recognize
• 1:49:06
Speaker 1: that happiness is already within them and round about them,
• 1:49:10
Speaker 1: filling the universe, and that they, in their selfish searching,
• 1:49:15
Speaker 1: are shutting themselves out from it. I followed happiness to
• 1:49:20
Speaker 1: make her mind. Past towering oak and swinging ivy vine,
• 1:49:25
Speaker 1: she fled. I chased o'er slanting hill and dale, o'er
• 1:49:31
Speaker 1: fields and meadows in the purpling vale, Pursuing rapidly o'er
• 1:49:37
Speaker 1: dashing stream. I scaled the dizzy cliffs where eagles scream.
• 1:49:42
Speaker 1: I traversed swiftly every land and m but always happiness
• 1:49:47
Speaker 1: eluded me. Exhausted, feigning, I pursued no more, but sank
• 1:49:53
Speaker 1: to rest upon a barren shore. One came and asked
• 1:49:57
Speaker 1: for food, and one for alms. I placed the bread
• 1:50:01
Speaker 1: and gold in bony palms. One came for sympathy, and
• 1:50:05
Speaker 1: one for rest. I shared with every needy one my best.
• 1:50:10
Speaker 1: When low, sweet happiness with form divine stood by me,
• 1:50:15
Speaker 1: whispering softly, I am thine. These beautiful lines of Burley's
• 1:50:22
Speaker 1: express the secret of all abounding happiness. Sacrifice the personal
• 1:50:27
Speaker 1: and transient, and you rise at once into the impersonal
• 1:50:31
Speaker 1: and permanent. Give up that narrow cramp self that seeks
• 1:50:36
Speaker 1: to render all things subservient to its own petty interests,
• 1:50:40
Speaker 1: and you will enter into the company of the angels,
• 1:50:43
Speaker 1: into the very heart and essence of universal love. Forget
• 1:50:48
Speaker 1: yourself entirely in the sorrows of others and administering to others,
• 1:50:53
Speaker 1: and divine happiness will emancipate you from all sorrow and suffering.
• 1:50:59
Speaker 1: Take the first with a good thought, the second with
• 1:51:02
Speaker 1: a good word, the third with a good deed. I
• 1:51:06
Speaker 1: entered paradise, and you may also enter into paradise by
• 1:51:11
Speaker 1: pursuing the same course. It is not beyond, it is here.
• 1:51:16
Speaker 1: It is realized only by the unselfish. It is known
• 1:51:21
Speaker 1: in its fullness only to the pure in heart. If
• 1:51:24
Speaker 1: you have not realized this unbounded happiness, you may begin
• 1:51:28
Speaker 1: to actualize it by ever holding before you the lofty
• 1:51:32
Speaker 1: ideal of unselfish love and aspiring towards it. Aspiration or
• 1:51:38
Speaker 1: prayer is desire turned upward. It is the soul turning
• 1:51:42
Speaker 1: toward its divine source, where alone permanent satisfaction can be found.
• 1:51:49
Speaker 1: By aspiration, the destructive forces of desire are transmuted into
• 1:51:54
Speaker 1: divine and all preserving energy. To aspire is to make
• 1:51:59
Speaker 1: an effort to shake off the trammels of desire. It
• 1:52:02
Speaker 1: is the prodigal made wise by loneliness and suffering, returning
• 1:52:07
Speaker 1: to his father's mansion. As you rise above the sword itself,
• 1:52:11
Speaker 1: as you break one after another the chains that bind you,
• 1:52:16
Speaker 1: you will realize the joy of giving, as distinguished from
• 1:52:20
Speaker 1: the misery of grasping. Giving of your substance, giving of
• 1:52:25
Speaker 1: your intellect, giving of the love and light that is
• 1:52:28
Speaker 1: growing within you. You will then understand what it is,
• 1:52:32
Speaker 1: indeed more blessed to give than to receive. But the
• 1:52:37
Speaker 1: giving must be of the heart, without any taint of self,
• 1:52:41
Speaker 1: without desire for reward. The gift of pure love is
• 1:52:45
Speaker 1: always attended with bliss. If after you have given, you
• 1:52:50
Speaker 1: are wounded because you are not thanked or flattered or
• 1:52:53
Speaker 1: your name put in the paper, know then that your
• 1:52:56
Speaker 1: gift was prompted by vanity and not by love, and
• 1:53:00
Speaker 1: you are merely giving in order to get. We're not
• 1:53:03
Speaker 1: really giving but grasping. Lose yourself in the welfare of others.
• 1:53:09
Speaker 1: Forget yourself and all that you do. This is the
• 1:53:12
Speaker 1: secret of unbounding happiness. Ever, be on the watch to
• 1:53:17
Speaker 1: guard against selfishness and learn faithfully the divine lessons of
• 1:53:21
Speaker 1: inward sacrifice. So shall you climb the highest heights of
• 1:53:26
Speaker 1: happiness and shall remain in the never clouded sunshine of
• 1:53:30
Speaker 1: universal joy, clothed in the shining garment of immortality. Are
• 1:53:35
Speaker 1: you searching for the happiness that does not fade away?
• 1:53:39
Speaker 1: Are you looking for the joy that lives and leaves
• 1:53:42
Speaker 1: no grievous day? Are you panting for the water brooks
• 1:53:47
Speaker 1: of love and life and peace? Then let all dark
• 1:53:51
Speaker 1: desires depart and selfish seeking cease. Are you lingering the
• 1:53:57
Speaker 1: paths of pain, grief, haunted, stricken and sore. Are you
• 1:54:01
Speaker 1: wandering in the ways that wound your weary feet. The
• 1:54:05
Speaker 1: more are you sighing for the resting place where tears
• 1:54:09
Speaker 1: and sorrows cease, Then sacrifice your selfish heart and find
• 1:54:14
Speaker 1: the heart of peace, the realization of prosperity. It is
• 1:54:21
Speaker 1: granted only to the heart that abounds with integrity, trust, generosity,
• 1:54:27
Speaker 1: and love to realize true prosperity. The heart that is
• 1:54:32
Speaker 1: not possessed of these qualities cannot no prosperity, for prosperity,
• 1:54:38
Speaker 1: like happiness, is not an outward possession, but an inward realization.
• 1:54:45
Speaker 1: The greedy man may become a millionaire, but he will
• 1:54:48
Speaker 1: always be wretched and mean and poor, and will even
• 1:54:53
Speaker 1: consider himself outwardly poor so long as there is a
• 1:54:56
Speaker 1: man in the world who is richer than himself. Whiles,
• 1:55:00
Speaker 1: the upright, the open handed, and loving will realize a
• 1:55:04
Speaker 1: full and rich prosperity, even though their outward possessions may
• 1:55:09
Speaker 1: be small. He is poor who is dissatisfied. He is
• 1:55:14
Speaker 1: rich who is contented with what he has, And he
• 1:55:17
Speaker 1: is richer who is generous with what he has. When
• 1:55:22
Speaker 1: we contemplate the fact that the universe is abounding in
• 1:55:25
Speaker 1: all good things, material as well as spiritual, and compare
• 1:55:30
Speaker 1: it with man's blind eagerness to secure a few gold
• 1:55:33
Speaker 1: coins or a few acres of dirt. It is then
• 1:55:37
Speaker 1: that we realize how dark and ignorant selfishness is. It
• 1:55:42
Speaker 1: is then that we know that self seeking is self destruction.
• 1:55:47
Speaker 1: Nature gives all without reservation and loses nothing. Man grasping
• 1:55:54
Speaker 1: all loses everything. If you would realize true prosperity, do
• 1:55:59
Speaker 1: not set down, as many have done, into the belief
• 1:56:03
Speaker 1: that if you do right, everything will go wrong. Do
• 1:56:07
Speaker 1: not allow the word competition to shake your faith in
• 1:56:11
Speaker 1: the supremacy of righteousness. I care not what men may
• 1:56:15
Speaker 1: say about the laws of competition, for do I not
• 1:56:19
Speaker 1: know the unchangeable law which shall one day put them
• 1:56:22
Speaker 1: all to route, and which puts them to route even
• 1:56:25
Speaker 1: now in the heart and life of the righteous man.
• 1:56:30
Speaker 1: And knowing this law, I can contemplate all dishonesty with
• 1:56:34
Speaker 1: undisturbed repose, for I know where certain destruction awaits it.
• 1:56:40
Speaker 1: Under all circumstances, do that which you believe to be right,
• 1:56:44
Speaker 1: and trust the law, trust the divine power that is
• 1:56:48
Speaker 1: eminent in the universe, and it will never desert you,
• 1:56:52
Speaker 1: and you will always be protected by such a trust.
• 1:56:56
Speaker 1: All your lasses will be converted into gains, and all
• 1:56:59
Speaker 1: curse which threaten will be transmuted into blessings. Never let
• 1:57:04
Speaker 1: go of integrity, generosity, and love, for these, coupled with energy,
• 1:57:10
Speaker 1: will lift you into the truly prosperous state. Do not
• 1:57:15
Speaker 1: believe the world when it tells you that you must
• 1:57:17
Speaker 1: attend to number one first and to others afterwards. To
• 1:57:22
Speaker 1: do this is not to think of others at all,
• 1:57:25
Speaker 1: but only of one's own comforts. To those who practice this,
• 1:57:30
Speaker 1: the day will come when they will be deserted by all,
• 1:57:33
Speaker 1: and when they cry out in their loneliness and anguish,
• 1:57:36
Speaker 1: there will be no one to hear and help them.
• 1:57:39
Speaker 1: To consider one's self before all others is to cramp
• 1:57:43
Speaker 1: and warp and hinder every noble and divine impulse. Let
• 1:57:49
Speaker 1: your soul expand, let your heart reach out to others
• 1:57:53
Speaker 1: in loving and generous warmth, and great and lasting will
• 1:57:57
Speaker 1: be your joy, and all prosperity will come to you.
• 1:58:02
Speaker 1: Those who have wandered from the highway of righteousness guard
• 1:58:05
Speaker 1: themselves against competition. Those who always pursue the right need
• 1:58:10
Speaker 1: not to trouble about such defense. This is no empty statement.
• 1:58:16
Speaker 1: There are men to day who by the power of
• 1:58:18
Speaker 1: integrity and faith, have defied all competition, and who, without
• 1:58:24
Speaker 1: swerving in the least from their methods when competed with,
• 1:58:29
Speaker 1: have risen steadily into prosperity, whilst those who try to
• 1:58:33
Speaker 1: undermine them have fallen back defeated. To possess those inward
• 1:58:38
Speaker 1: qualities which constitute goodness is to be armored against all
• 1:58:42
Speaker 1: the powers of evil, and to be doubly protected in
• 1:58:46
Speaker 1: every time of trial. And to build one's self up
• 1:58:49
Speaker 1: in those qualities is to build up a success which
• 1:58:53
Speaker 1: cannot be shaken, and to enter into a prosperity which
• 1:58:57
Speaker 1: will endure forever. The white robe of the herd invisible
• 1:59:02
Speaker 1: is stained with sin and sorrow, grief and pain, and
• 1:59:06
Speaker 1: all repentant pools and springs of prayer shall not avail
• 1:59:10
Speaker 1: to wash it white again. While in the path of
• 1:59:14
Speaker 1: ignorance I walk, the stains of error will not cease
• 1:59:18
Speaker 1: to cling defilements mark the crooked path of self, where
• 1:59:23
Speaker 1: anguish lurks and disappointments. Sting knowledge and wisdom only can
• 1:59:29
Speaker 1: avail to purify and make my garment clean. For therein
• 1:59:34
Speaker 1: lie loves waters, therein rest, peace, undisturbed, eternal, and serene.
• 1:59:41
Speaker 1: Sin and repentance is the path of pain. Knowledge and
• 1:59:45
Speaker 1: wisdom is the path of peace. By the near way
• 1:59:49
Speaker 1: of practice, I will find where bliss begins, how pains
• 1:59:53
Speaker 1: and sorrows cease, Self shall depart, and truth shall take
• 1:59:58
Speaker 1: its place. The chain on the indivisible shall take up
• 2:00:02
Speaker 1: his abode in me, and cleanse the white robe of
• 2:00:06
  Speaker 1: the heart invisible
