- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn German with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and as always, Luna is here with me. Luna: Hey! I'm so ready to learn some German. Last time we were all about corners, right? Lucas: Exactly, we did 'an der Ecke'. Today we're going one step further and talking about the intersection. In German, that's 'die Kreuzung'. Luna: die Kreuzung. Sounds a bit tricky. die Kreuzung. Lucas: You got it. And it's feminine, so 'die Kreuzung'. Let's say it together: die Kreuzung. Luna: die Kreuzung. Okay, so like where two roads cross. Lucas: Right. Now, a very common phrase is 'an der Kreuzung', which means 'at the intersection'. For example, 'Die Bank ist an der Kreuzung.' Luna: Die Bank ist an der Kreuzung. The bank is at the intersection. Nice. Lucas: Now, when you're giving directions, you often say things like 'Biegen Sie an der Kreuzung links ab.' That means 'Turn left at the intersection.' Luna: Biegen Sie an der Kreuzung links ab. That's a long one. Let me try: Biegen Sie an der Kreuzung links ab. Lucas: Perfect. And for right, you just replace 'links' with 'rechts': 'Biegen Sie an der Kreuzung rechts ab.' Luna: So it's 'Biegen Sie an der Kreuzung rechts ab.' Okay, I can do that. Biegen Sie an der Kreuzung rechts ab. Lucas: And if you want to go straight, you say 'Fahren Sie an der Kreuzung geradeaus.' Luna: Fahren Sie an der Kreuzung geradeaus. That's a mouthful, but I think I got it. Fahren Sie an der Kreuzung geradeaus. Lucas: You're doing great. Now let's put it in a little scene. Imagine you're walking in a German city and you ask someone where the post office is. Luna: Okay, I'll ask. 'Wo ist die Post?' Lucas: And the person says, 'Biegen Sie an der Kreuzung links ab.' Luna: So they want me to turn left at the intersection. Got it. Lucas: Let's do another one. You're looking for the museum. 'Wo ist das Museum?' Luna: And the reply? 'Biegen Sie an der Kreuzung rechts ab.' Lucas: Perfect. Now, let's practice a bit more. I'll be the local, you ask for directions. Luna: Okay, 'Entschuldigung, wo ist die Bäckerei?' Lucas: Die Bäckerei? Fahren Sie an der Kreuzung geradeaus. Luna: Straight at the intersection. Cool. Fahren Sie an der Kreuzung geradeaus. Lucas: You're picking it up so quickly. These phrases are so handy when you're exploring a new city. Luna: Definitely. And it's fun to imagine I'm actually in Germany, finding my way around. Luna: Now, back to our directions. Let's do a quick recap. Can you say 'die Kreuzung' one more time? Lucas: Sure. die Kreuzung. And 'an der Kreuzung'. Luna: an der Kreuzung. And 'Biegen Sie an der Kreuzung links ab.' Lucas: Remember, 'links' is left, 'rechts' is right. So you can mix it up. Luna: And 'Fahren Sie an der Kreuzung geradeaus.' So many useful phrases. Lucas: Let's do one more mini scene. You're at the bank, and you need to find the pharmacy. Luna: Okay, 'Wo ist die Apotheke?' Lucas: The pharmacist says, 'Die Apotheke ist an der Kreuzung. Biegen Sie links ab.' Luna: So the pharmacy is at the intersection, and I turn left. Perfect. Lucas: You got it. Now, how about a challenge? Try to say, 'The bank is at the intersection' in German. Luna: Die Bank ist an der Kreuzung. Easy. Lucas: And 'Turn right at the intersection'? Luna: Biegen Sie an der Kreuzung rechts ab. Lucas: Wonderful. You're a natural. Keep practicing these, and you'll never get lost in a German city. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. This was really helpful. Can't wait for next time. Lucas: Thanks for joining us. Practice these phrases, and see you next time.
