• 1:04
Speaker 1: Matt and I made a promise that for Spooky Season
• 1:07
Speaker 1: twenty twenty four we were going to do something special.
• 1:10
Speaker 1: That special thing is we are revisiting James Luceno's classic
• 1:14
Speaker 1: Star Wars legends novel Darth Plagus, which deals with the
• 1:18
Speaker 1: backstory of the legend we all first heard during Star
• 1:22
Speaker 1: Wars Episode three, Revenge of the Sith, when Chancellor Palpatine
• 1:26
Speaker 1: leaned back and asked Anakin if he had ever heard
• 1:30
Speaker 1: the tragedy of darth Plagus. The wise we were left
• 1:34
Speaker 1: after that moment in two thousand and five, or whenever
• 1:36
Speaker 1: you encountered a Revenge of the Sith, wondering was Palpatine
• 1:40
Speaker 1: telling the truth? Was Palpatine telling a serious personal story,
• 1:45
Speaker 1: or was he inventing something whole cloth to seduce Anakin
• 1:49
Speaker 1: to the dark side of the force. Fans debated it
• 1:52
Speaker 1: for a very long time, and then this book darth
• 1:56
Speaker 1: Plagus was released, and we went on and we everything
• 2:00
Speaker 1: that was in it after that, whether we liked it,
• 2:03
Speaker 1: whether we agreed with it, or whether we thought that
• 2:06
Speaker 1: it was a bridge too far. So Matt and I
• 2:08
Speaker 1: took it upon ourselves. We are going to revisit darth
• 2:11
Speaker 1: Plagas and for the very special episode released right before
• 2:16
Speaker 1: Halloween in this month, October twenty twenty four, we are
• 2:21
Speaker 1: going to treat it as only we can, with an
• 2:23
Speaker 1: in depth discussion, exploring all of the angles about the
• 2:27
Speaker 1: story that Luceno lays out there for us, and looking
• 2:31
Speaker 1: at it from the perspective of whether there is anything
• 2:34
Speaker 1: in modern quote unquote Disney Cannon that contradicts what we
• 2:38
Speaker 1: see in the novel darth Plagus, or whether there is
• 2:41
Speaker 1: still an opportunity for Lucasfilm to adapt darth Plagas and
• 2:47
Speaker 1: bring him from the book into the modern storytelling tradition
• 2:53
Speaker 1: that's being built as we speak with the streaming series
• 2:57
Speaker 1: and potential future movies. Are there opportunity there? Has the
• 3:01
Speaker 1: ship sailed on this particular interpretation of darth Plagus, or
• 3:05
Speaker 1: have we seen hints that something might be coming down
• 3:09
Speaker 1: the pipeline that's going to give us a version of
• 3:12
Speaker 1: this story in the same way that Marvel has adapted
• 3:16
Speaker 1: comics through time. We don't know, we'll discover and we'll discuss,
• 3:21
Speaker 1: and of course we would love for you to join
• 3:24
Speaker 1: us on that journey. So go over to your bookshelf,
• 3:27
Speaker 1: your local library, a friend's house, wherever you want pick
• 3:31
Speaker 1: up a copy of darth Plagus. There is still time
• 3:34
Speaker 1: for you to crack that book open and to dig
• 3:37
Speaker 1: into it and read and consume. And you can, of
