Speaker 1: Listener discretion is advised. The world's origione Welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered.
• 0:31
Speaker 1: One of the Patriots, Dvoway run defense. If I have that,
• 0:36
Speaker 1: We'll wait now, I just have all their terrible audiences.
• 0:39
Speaker 1: That's in front of me. Sehn Jefferson, the wide receivers
• 0:41
Speaker 1: coach of the Cardinals. Still wearing those pants Freddy Grammon
• 0:44
Speaker 1: but likings he used to wear a practice and used
• 0:46
Speaker 1: to make fred very uncoma really well, that's all he
• 0:49
Speaker 1: would wear, right, you know, he come running at you,
• 0:51
Speaker 1: and here's a lot looking at you. There. What I
• 0:54
Speaker 1: don't get is what fans say, I'm embarrassed. Why are
• 0:57
Speaker 1: you embarrassed? You didn't play in it. You didn't you
• 1:00
Speaker 1: It's not on the end of game, Like, why are
• 1:02
Speaker 1: you embarrassed? I guess if you're saying that Stafford's not
• 1:04
Speaker 1: a sure thing. That Okay, how can you say Stafford's
• 1:07
Speaker 1: a sure thing. He's not going to be out for
• 1:09
Speaker 1: twenty twenty three. He may decide I'm not playing anymore. Okay, Well,
• 1:12
Speaker 1: either way, like a sure thing. The guys in his
• 1:14
Speaker 1: late thirties and has a spinal contusion. I think he
• 1:17
Speaker 1: might say, you know what, I got lucky, I'm getting out.
• 1:20
Speaker 1: So he's not a sure thing. It depends on the
• 1:21
Speaker 1: way that they water it nice and it goes in moist. Yeah, yeah,
• 1:25
Speaker 1: so it goes in easier, yeah yeah, yeah, you know,
• 1:27
Speaker 1: and yeah, so anyway, this is Patriots Unfiltered fueled by Duncan.
• 1:38
Speaker 1: All right, it's Patriots Unfiltered. It's pp in the Deuce edition. Guys.
• 1:42
Speaker 1: I mean we just did we just wrap the pros
• 1:44
Speaker 1: game show point did It's like we basically got rid
• 1:46
Speaker 1: of the funny you know, creative host And you know,
• 1:48
Speaker 1: I always love when when Matt plays the little recap
• 1:51
Speaker 1: for the open who would have funk that are little,
• 1:56
Speaker 1: you know, immature, little talk about the the turf in
• 2:01
Speaker 1: Arizona would turn out to be a big part of
• 2:04
Speaker 1: the game right right from the get go. Third player
• 2:06
Speaker 1: of the game play from the game the game ended.
• 2:08
Speaker 1: We uh, you know, when we were watching it, and
• 2:10
Speaker 1: I don't think we talked about on the postgame show,
• 2:12
Speaker 1: but both Paul and I were like, that's the Edelman
• 2:13
Speaker 1: play from Detroit. It looked just like it, you know,
• 2:16
Speaker 1: like the Edelman one was on turf went down. Players
• 2:19
Speaker 1: were talking about it. Now. My question, though, is this
• 2:21
Speaker 1: is supposed to be I'm try talked about it grass,
• 2:25
Speaker 1: they put it out, they bring it back in. Everybody's
• 2:27
Speaker 1: complaining about the Oh it is artificial turf. So no,
• 2:30
Speaker 1: no at all, you know, Arizona. No, I know, I
• 2:31
Speaker 1: know that's the point I'm trying to make. Everybody complains
• 2:33
Speaker 1: about artificial turf. But we're having, you know, the same
• 2:35
Speaker 1: problems with grass here. And I saw I think you know,
• 2:39
Speaker 1: um David Chow NFL doc um, he's really good with
• 2:44
Speaker 1: a lot of that stuff. And there were thirty two
• 2:48
Speaker 1: a cls this year, sixteen on grass, sixteen on turf
• 2:50
Speaker 1: so far. So it's now just acls. Yeah, that doesn't count,
• 2:54
Speaker 1: you know, like high angles, high angles, you know, any
• 2:57
Speaker 1: other stuff. Tough though too. I mean it's not all
• 3:01
Speaker 1: based on the turf. I mean, like look at Deebo.
• 3:03
Speaker 1: I mean I know he was just an ankle injury,
• 3:05
Speaker 1: but you know, sometimes you just get pinned and yeah
• 3:07
Speaker 1: you can't get out. Uh well, anyway, Yeah, the Patriots
• 3:10
Speaker 1: got out of Arizona with a wind, with a wind,
• 3:13
Speaker 1: and here we are feels like we just got off
• 3:15
Speaker 1: the air. Fred traveling back from Arizona. We don't know
• 3:17
Speaker 1: his exact location, but um, you guys just got Paul
• 3:20
Speaker 1: and Uster get on like Norad or whatever they track
• 3:24
Speaker 1: they track Fred flying across the country somewhere. So uh,
• 3:28
Speaker 1: a little bleary eyed here tonight. Paul stayed in the
• 3:30
Speaker 1: hotel and I was at my house not too far
• 3:33
Speaker 1: from here. But we caught up. We wrote, we've already
• 3:35
Speaker 1: shooting TV, We've already stream the Raiders. Uh. So I
• 3:39
Speaker 1: think today we're just uh, I guess saw him through
• 3:41
Speaker 1: last night A little bit, a little bit of perspective. Perhaps,
• 3:43
Speaker 1: I say we treat this as an extended postgame show.
• 3:46
Speaker 1: I know that some party, some of our listeners were
• 3:49
Speaker 1: able to call in last night and participate, but it
• 3:52
Speaker 1: is late. Um, you know, it's you know, one fifteen.
• 3:56
Speaker 1: I think we we wrapped it up somewhere around that time,
• 4:00
Speaker 1: so I know, not everybody got a chance to weigh in.
• 4:02
Speaker 1: So certainly if you have your thoughts on last night's game,
• 4:06
Speaker 1: and you know, we made light of it, but you
• 4:09
Speaker 1: can't get around the fact that the Kyler Murray injury
• 4:12
Speaker 1: was an enormous impact on the game. But I thought
• 4:15
Speaker 1: the defense made a lot of plays in the second
• 4:17
Speaker 1: half that sort of lifted the team to victory. I'm
• 4:21
Speaker 1: not sure, you know, they might still be playing at
• 4:23
Speaker 1: thirteen thirteen if not for that scoop and score. You know,
• 4:27
Speaker 1: Dugger and ray Kua McMillan combined on that play to
• 4:30
Speaker 1: to victimize DeAndre Hopkins, and that was a huge play
• 4:34
Speaker 1: in the game too. So a lot of players to
• 4:36
Speaker 1: talk about a lot of different sequences and as of
• 4:39
Speaker 1: right now, Mike, the bottom line is at seven and six,
• 4:43
Speaker 1: you are inside the playoff structure today. If you went out,
• 4:46
Speaker 1: you stay in. You went out, you're in. It's not
• 4:48
Speaker 1: going to be easy. Um, well, let's let's start at
• 4:50
Speaker 1: the top, Paul, with a little bit of a positivity
• 4:53
Speaker 1: because I think Marcus Jones, the two rookie running backs
• 4:56
Speaker 1: finally getting you know, a little bit of run. Now
• 4:59
  Speaker 1: I know that we're not I found a lot of
• 5:01
Speaker 1: people this morning were trumpeting the twenty twenty two rookie
• 5:04
Speaker 1: class as if it's it's an all time class or something.
• 5:06
Speaker 1: I just I saw a little bit too much hype,
• 5:08
Speaker 1: and I think that they've been good lately. I still
• 5:11
Speaker 1: think we have questions about this class, but coming out
• 5:14
Speaker 1: of last night, I feel very, very excited. Continue to
• 5:17
Speaker 1: feel excited about Marcus Jones and just the football player
• 5:20
Speaker 1: that they've got and added to their team. I mean,
• 5:22
Speaker 1: you know how I felt about Marcus Jones the day
• 5:24
Speaker 1: they drafted him. You know that we did sort of
• 5:27
Speaker 1: our mid season kind of things. I picked him as
• 5:29
Speaker 1: my Rookie of the Year for the Patriots. He's by
• 5:34
Speaker 1: far and away the rookie that I'm most excited about.
• 5:38
Speaker 1: I just would caution, like people, I don't want to
• 5:41
Speaker 1: take away any of your enthusiasm for what Kevin Harrison
• 5:44
Speaker 1: and Pierre Strong did last night, But don't tell me
• 5:49
Speaker 1: that that makes it a special draft class because those
• 5:52
Speaker 1: two guys contributed last night. You know, is Cole Stranger
• 5:58
Speaker 1: bust because he gave up a sack class night and
• 6:01
Speaker 1: didn't play, and he hasn't really played. We got yanked
• 6:03
Speaker 1: out of three different games this year. I'm not ready
• 6:06
Speaker 1: to say he's a bust. You know, he's starting every game,
• 6:09
Speaker 1: he's figuring his way out. I just don't like the
• 6:12
Speaker 1: snapshot good draft class, boom right done Week thirteen, Week thirteen,
• 6:17
Speaker 1: because in week thirteen you got contributions from two rookie
• 6:21
Speaker 1: running backs who would combined for what five carries right
• 6:24
Speaker 1: before that nothing. So that's my only thing. Like last year,
• 6:28
Speaker 1: I said this a million times. Last year, at this time,
• 6:31
Speaker 1: we thought they had three like A plus selections in
• 6:35
Speaker 1: Mac Jones, Christian Barmore, and Ramadre Stevenson. Right now you'd
• 6:39
Speaker 1: probably say one of those maybe is an A plus.
• 6:42
Speaker 1: That's Stevenson. And that's why even in comparison, and I
• 6:45
Speaker 1: mean maybe separate from Mac because Mac is a quarterback
• 6:47
Speaker 1: and that's a first round pick, and it's this whole
• 6:49
Speaker 1: separate thing. But just for me, I think Marcus Jones
• 6:52
Speaker 1: is the most exciting pick that that's come around here
• 6:55
Speaker 1: in a while. And just I mean, he's playing all
• 6:57
Speaker 1: three sides of the ball. I think now you're getting
• 6:59
Speaker 1: to the point where it's like, what do you do
• 7:02
Speaker 1: with this guy? Like how do you make the most
• 7:03
Speaker 1: of him without asking too much of him? But I
• 7:05
Speaker 1: said it on one of the shows. I think it
• 7:07
Speaker 1: might have been the pregame show yesterday. It's just you
• 7:09
Speaker 1: see how explosive he is and how much they've desperately
• 7:12
Speaker 1: needed that element to their game, and all of a sudden,
• 7:14
Speaker 1: you've got a player that's not only bringing you that,
• 7:16
Speaker 1: but he's also playing defense, he's playing special teams in
• 7:19
Speaker 1: returning puntson you know, how can you really, I don't
• 7:22
Speaker 1: want to say build your team around this guy, but
• 7:23
Speaker 1: just absolutely maximize because I think he has the potential
• 7:26
Speaker 1: to maybe be special. So eight snaps on offense last night,
• 7:29
Speaker 1: and then you know to sort of look ahead because
• 7:32
Speaker 1: we will look ahead as well. You know the Raiders
• 7:35
Speaker 1: game short week, you started the game without Myers because
• 7:42
Speaker 1: of a concussion. You lost Parker to a concussion in
• 7:44
Speaker 1: the game. So I would say, chances are you're going
• 7:47
Speaker 1: to be without at least one of those. I don't
• 7:49
Speaker 1: know if Myers will be able to make it back,
• 7:51
Speaker 1: but my guess is you're gonna be without Parker at
• 7:55
Speaker 1: the minimum for the Raiders. So you may need Marcus
• 7:57
Speaker 1: Jones to continue playing off its whether you wanted to
• 8:00
Speaker 1: or not. What did someone just bark like a dog
• 8:03
Speaker 1: like a dog. Oh hey, Fred, how are you doing? So? Yeah?
• 8:10
Speaker 1: Like just real quick, Freddy, I just to you know,
• 8:13
Speaker 1: wrap up that Marcus Jones thing. I mean that's a
• 8:16
Speaker 1: high school level performance. I mean he played significant snaps
• 8:19
Speaker 1: in all three levels. Really impressive stuff. Go ahead, Fred,
• 8:24
Speaker 1: now you can time in. Hello. Hello, I'm joining the show. Nice.
• 8:29
Speaker 1: This is great. How do I sound? Do I sound okay?
• 8:32
Speaker 1: You sound a little tinny, but we can hear you. Great.
• 8:34
Speaker 1: I do remember it. I was going to take a
• 8:36
Speaker 1: picture of your your closed office upstairs. I told Mike
• 8:39
Speaker 1: I want to take a picture and send it to
• 8:40
Speaker 1: him and say, I remember a time when you would
• 8:42
Speaker 1: have made it in right off the off the west
• 8:45
Speaker 1: coast trip. Yeah, okay, No, I'm just kidding. No, there
• 8:48
Speaker 1: was There was never a time that you'd be here.
• 8:51
Speaker 1: I can't believe you're on the phone right now, to
• 8:52
Speaker 1: be honest with you. So that's when I lived five
• 8:55
Speaker 1: minutes away. So Fred in Arizona, what would you say?
• 8:59
Speaker 1: The mood was, um, well, I know my mood. I'm
• 9:04
Speaker 1: happy for the win. But you know, I texted Paul
• 9:07
Speaker 1: during the postgame show, Ye, what we saw from the
• 9:09
Speaker 1: Patriots offense, that's not a normal NFL offense. No, uh,
• 9:14
Speaker 1: the amount of I know they call them screens. That's
• 9:17
Speaker 1: something I want to talk about if some of those
• 9:19
Speaker 1: passes are actually screen passes or just quick flat passes
• 9:24
Speaker 1: side to try to get it to the edge as
• 9:26
Speaker 1: quickly as possible. I agree with you, fred I think
• 9:29
Speaker 1: they ran a great amount of screens, but I don't
• 9:31
Speaker 1: even think that counts all of the little swing passes
• 9:34
Speaker 1: that's right, that we're just out of the hands immediately
• 9:36
Speaker 1: out to the side, right, like the quick passes to
• 9:39
Speaker 1: Burn and so on. That's not that's not a setup screen.
• 9:42
Speaker 1: That's just meant for him to beat one man and hopefully,
• 9:45
Speaker 1: you know, gain you know, some good yardage, which he
• 9:48
Speaker 1: rarely did. Like a little swing to Marcus Jones that
• 9:51
Speaker 1: he broke out with that wasn't a screen. That was
• 9:53
Speaker 1: just a little swing pass right right, So that what
• 9:56
Speaker 1: we saw that offense was totally because they can't pretend. Mack.
• 10:00
Speaker 1: I think you're right, and I think Bill said as
• 10:02
Speaker 1: much again in the post game. I don't know if
• 10:03
Speaker 1: you've got a chance to catch it, Freddie, or if
• 10:05
Speaker 1: you were too busy. Um, you know they asked him
• 10:09
Speaker 1: that he was asked about you know, the the vast
• 10:12
Speaker 1: amount of screen passes, and and and part of Bill's
• 10:15
Speaker 1: answer was, you know, well we did have you know,
• 10:17
Speaker 1: the two seam throws to hunt, he said. But but
• 10:20
Speaker 1: then he said, uh, you know we would. We were
• 10:23
Speaker 1: looking to take a shot you know, downfield on the
• 10:26
Speaker 1: play that Mac got hit and got intercepted. Yeah, and
• 10:29
Speaker 1: I think it was but this through without field, and
• 10:34
Speaker 1: all of a sudden he's going to negate the question. No,
• 10:36
Speaker 1: but but there's a meaning to that. He's explaining to you,
• 10:40
Speaker 1: this is what happens when we throw the ball downfield.
• 10:43
Speaker 1: We can't we can't protect and be we risked turnovers. Yeah,
• 10:47
Speaker 1: that's what I think he's trying to tell you. Now,
• 10:49
  Speaker 1: I don't necessarily agree with him, Like I don't think
• 10:52
Speaker 1: just because you turned it over on a deep ball,
• 10:54
Speaker 1: you you don't throw any more deep balls. I thought
• 10:56
Speaker 1: they had fifteen yard outs all night if they wanted
• 10:59
Speaker 1: them in that game. I thought that, you know, the
• 11:02
Speaker 1: Cardinals were playing without their best corner and lost their
• 11:05
Speaker 1: second best corner ten plays into the game. So I
• 11:08
Speaker 1: thought I thought they had fifteen yard outs all night
• 11:10
Speaker 1: if they wanted them. You really think that, Yeah, I
• 11:13
Speaker 1: thought they had a couple to a galore, and I
• 11:15
Speaker 1: think they had one to to burn at the start
• 11:17
Speaker 1: of the second half, kind of settling in the zone,
• 11:20
Speaker 1: he kind of curled in a little bit. Um, they
• 11:23
Speaker 1: just didn't throw enough of them. I thought, I don't know.
• 11:25
Speaker 1: I just seemed to me that the way Patricia was
• 11:29
Speaker 1: calling the game is they did not trust the protection. Yeah,
• 11:33
  Speaker 1: I think you're right. I agree with you. I think
• 11:35
Speaker 1: your impression from the fire, I agree with you. When
• 11:37
Speaker 1: you sent the text last night we talked about him
• 11:39
Speaker 1: a little bit. Um, I'm right with you. I think
• 11:42
Speaker 1: you you nailed it. Yeah. And even the one where Mac,
• 11:46
Speaker 1: you know, he bought a little time he stepped up
• 11:48
Speaker 1: in the pocket where he got his arm hit. I
• 11:50
Speaker 1: blame Mac for that one. Really, he didn't move up
• 11:54
Speaker 1: well to avoid the pressure, but then he didn't get
• 11:57
Speaker 1: the rid of the ball. You're not alone on that.
• 11:59
Speaker 1: I've had a couple of will say that to me. Yeah,
• 12:01
Speaker 1: he just took an extra beat and it was just
• 12:04
Speaker 1: enough for the guy that was by the play to
• 12:06
Speaker 1: come back and recover and get his arm. He's just
• 12:10
Speaker 1: gonna be a little bit more aware than that. Um.
• 12:13
Speaker 1: I think he did a good job you know, running
• 12:15
Speaker 1: around like a crazy man again. But but it's just,
• 12:19
Speaker 1: you know, like you said at the top of the show,
• 12:22
Speaker 1: you're without Myers, who's as close to his banky as
• 12:25
Speaker 1: you can get. Parker goes out, Um, you know, Stevenson.
• 12:29
Speaker 1: Stevenson goes out, And I don't want to overlook that.
• 12:32
Speaker 1: You you're missing maybe your top two wideouts and your
• 12:35
Speaker 1: top two running backs. I don't want to dismiss that.
• 12:38
Speaker 1: I know. I know they wanted to get Stevenson back
• 12:40
Speaker 1: in there more for probably protection and for the passing game.
• 12:45
Speaker 1: But man, I wish they hadn't rushed him back in
• 12:48
Speaker 1: like they did. You know, Harris was doing okay, like
• 12:52
Speaker 1: three players three, three times and that was it. Nope,
• 12:54
Speaker 1: I'm out. They put they put it back in the game,
• 12:56
Speaker 1: and they're like every every play involved him, like to
• 12:59
Speaker 1: you a point, like all right, I just let's see
• 13:01
Speaker 1: if he's okay first and and Harris had been running
• 13:04
Speaker 1: the boat like I don't know, I did, the rush
• 13:06
Speaker 1: to get him back in there seemed a little bit
• 13:09
Speaker 1: uh risky. If you ask me, Fred, what was the
• 13:13
Speaker 1: reaction like in the stadium when when Murray went down?
• 13:15
Speaker 1: I mean, me and Paul kind of instantly looked like
• 13:18
Speaker 1: it was adamant. We just instantly knew it was all
• 13:20
Speaker 1: tell you. Obviously, it was very quiet, but when McCoy
• 13:25
Speaker 1: came in, there was a loud cheer. I have to
• 13:28
Speaker 1: tell you there was a loud cheers because from what
• 13:30
Speaker 1: I understand, there was it was the beast majority of
• 13:33
Speaker 1: Patriots pans mistakes because I was cheering and I said,
• 13:36
Speaker 1: the game's over. Well they were, they were cheering from McCoy,
• 13:39
Speaker 1: And I was just think to Howard Ballser in the
• 13:42
Speaker 1: pregame show, and you know, the Cardinal fans they're not
• 13:45
Speaker 1: sold on Murray. There, no should they be? Yeah? Yeah,
• 13:49
Speaker 1: And so like like I heard that cheers is all right,
• 13:53
Speaker 1: we got we got McCoy in there, you know. Um yeah.
• 13:57
Speaker 1: And and I know, Paul, you say that once Murray
• 14:00
Speaker 1: went down, that was it game over. Yeah, you might
• 14:03
Speaker 1: be right, but I'm not so sure about that. I'm
• 14:05
Speaker 1: not so sure if Murray had stayed in that the
• 14:08
Speaker 1: Patriots still wouldn't have won that game. Oh. I didn't
• 14:11
Speaker 1: say that they would have lost had Murray played. I
• 14:13
Speaker 1: think they would have, but I didn't say that definitively.
• 14:15
Speaker 1: I said the game ended when Murray left, they had
• 14:17
Speaker 1: no shot at that point. I don't know. McCoy came
• 14:19
Speaker 1: in him did pretty well. Yeah, at least I don't
• 14:24
Speaker 1: think he did very well. I think he had guys open.
• 14:28
Speaker 1: Once they fell behind, that was it. That was ball game.
• 14:31
Speaker 1: But I'm talking about what I'm talking about, all those
• 14:33
Speaker 1: trips down into Patriot's territory, Like I think the fourth
• 14:36
Speaker 1: down pass has to be completed. I'm just thinking that.
• 14:41
Speaker 1: I'm not sure Murray would have done much better. I
• 14:44
Speaker 1: don't know how, Like in the red zone with a
• 14:46
Speaker 1: guy who can run, you don't think that stresses the
• 14:48
Speaker 1: defense a little bit more than you know, one ten
• 14:50
Speaker 1: year old Colt McCoy. I mean, that's what I was
• 14:52
Speaker 1: thinking on the play he got hurt on him, was like,
• 14:53
Speaker 1: up here it comes. It's going to be a lot
• 14:54
Speaker 1: of this today. And then even play like he he
• 14:59
Speaker 1: wasn't like like they took away all his yards on
• 15:01
Speaker 1: that play. I don't know if you realized that they
• 15:03
Speaker 1: spotted that as a three yard run. He was about
• 15:05
Speaker 1: seven yards downfield because they said he gave himself up.
• 15:08
Speaker 1: He didn't give himself up. He tore his acl. It
• 15:11
Speaker 1: felt you don't get credit for fall no, and look
• 15:16
Speaker 1: like to Mike's point, I think that was gonna be
• 15:18
Speaker 1: you know, not a big play, but like they went
• 15:21
Speaker 1: nine yards, you know, first down, and then he runs
• 15:23
Speaker 1: what I think was going to be a seven and
• 15:25
Speaker 1: ten yard game, and all of a sudden, here you go.
• 15:27
Speaker 1: Get they were like I thought that they came out
• 15:30
Speaker 1: looking crisp. And I know it was only three plays,
• 15:33
Speaker 1: but I think all of those trips down inside the thirty,
• 15:36
Speaker 1: they're coming away with more than thirteen points if Kyler
• 15:38
Speaker 1: Murray's the quarterback. Okay, I think the Patriots probably, I
• 15:42
Speaker 1: think they had a game plan for Murray. I think
• 15:45
Speaker 1: they would. I think they would have been Okay, there's
• 15:47
Speaker 1: no way to prove that now, obviously, no, and same
• 15:49
  Speaker 1: with me. I can't. I can't tell you that I'm right. Yeah,
• 15:52
Speaker 1: it's just disappointing because but I can tell you Colton
• 15:54
Speaker 1: McCoy sucks. Yeah. I think we all wanted to see
• 15:56
Speaker 1: them got older. You know you saw the Colt McCoy
• 16:00
Speaker 1: come out. Yeah yeah, yeah, Well and uh, nice little
• 16:04
Speaker 1: performance by the rookie backs too. That was I mean,
• 16:06
Speaker 1: talked a lot about it, Stevenson leaning heavily on him.
• 16:10
Speaker 1: What happens if he gets banged up. Those guys hadn't
• 16:11
Speaker 1: done much, and uh, I was really happy that, Like
• 16:14
Speaker 1: you know, in preseason, when we saw these guys first contact,
• 16:18
Speaker 1: they'd be down and I saw you know, both he
• 16:21
Speaker 1: and Strong, you know, making shifts, bouncing it to the outside,
• 16:25
Speaker 1: being a little patient, running with power when they needed to.
• 16:29
Speaker 1: I was really happy with that um with the two
• 16:32
Speaker 1: of them, just you know, taking the opportunity and doing
• 16:35
Speaker 1: something with it. I mean, I saw more out of
• 16:37
Speaker 1: those two guys than I've seen yet. I don't think
• 16:39
Speaker 1: there's any question. And I would just point to Harris's
• 16:42
Speaker 1: touchdown run that was like kind of a weird gallop.
• 16:46
Speaker 1: He just I can't quite get a piece of Harris.
• 16:48
Speaker 1: I don't know a power runner who drags tackles. Interesting,
• 16:52
Speaker 1: that's how he runs. And then and then on the
• 16:54
Speaker 1: on the forty two seed, we've been waiting and I
• 16:58
Speaker 1: remember and Paul and I talk in this summer, when
• 17:00
Speaker 1: you know, everybody's talking about lpre Strong so fast, I
• 17:02
Speaker 1: haven't seen it. I hadn't seen it there it was finally,
• 17:05
Speaker 1: so I mean, just a little bit of you know,
• 17:07
Speaker 1: excitement when these guys there is there is some concerns
• 17:10
Speaker 1: like and I think Fred's right about like, you know,
• 17:12
Speaker 1: he talked about the pass protection, but to that that
• 17:14
Speaker 1: offensive line in general, Freddy's concerns are accurate. Like they
• 17:18
Speaker 1: had a forty four yard run in that game and
• 17:20
Speaker 1: still only average four point nine yards a carry. With
• 17:23
Speaker 1: a forty four yard run, yea Harris had you know,
• 17:26
Speaker 1: like like I was joking with you, Kevin Harris started
• 17:29
Speaker 1: three carries for thirty two yards in a touchdown. He
• 17:32
Speaker 1: ended up with wait for it, eight carries for twenty
• 17:36
Speaker 1: six yards going backwards, you know, like three point three
• 17:40
Speaker 1: to carry after you know, going three for thirty two
• 17:43
Speaker 1: to start. So they're having problems up front. They're not
• 17:47
Speaker 1: getting a lot of there's still a lot of negative
• 17:49
Speaker 1: plays in the Running game, way too many negative plays
• 17:52
Speaker 1: in the Running Game. And if you're missing a couple
• 17:55
Speaker 1: of receivers going forward, Yeah, that's that's gonna be tough. Fred.
• 17:59
Speaker 1: Where you want to on Marcus Jones? How I mean
• 18:01
Speaker 1: is he was he as as dynamic in person as
• 18:04
Speaker 1: he was on TV. I mean, well, it's it's pretty
• 18:07
Speaker 1: incredible what he's doing, you know, in all three phases
• 18:10
Speaker 1: of the game. I mean, I think They've really found
• 18:12
Speaker 1: somebody here now. Now, I just hope he stays healthy.
• 18:15
Speaker 1: But the kid, I mean, he's doing it all that.
• 18:18
Speaker 1: During the doing the blog, I was getting so confused
• 18:20
Speaker 1: because he's twenty five. Strong's thirty five. Harris is thirty six,
• 18:25
Speaker 1: and I was like mixed. I would look to see, Okay,
• 18:28
Speaker 1: who just did that? And I was I was having
• 18:30
Speaker 1: to correct myself a few times because I would think
• 18:33
Speaker 1: twenty five was thirty five? Help how much bigger Kevin
• 18:36
Speaker 1: Harris is than Pierre Strong? Because I get confusion the
• 18:39
Speaker 1: thirty five thirty six a lot, right? And of course
• 18:42
Speaker 1: I called called Kevin Harris David Harris the first time,
• 18:46
Speaker 1: David Harris. Yeah, I do that. I figured it was Damia.
• 18:49
Speaker 1: I figured you called him Damian Harris, a guy who's
• 18:51
Speaker 1: actually on the team, David the lineback. No, I know
• 18:54
Speaker 1: you're talking about a cup of coffee with the Pats.
• 18:56
Speaker 1: It's annoying what you have to write about those guys.
• 18:58
Speaker 1: And you're like, did they know which Harris I'm talking
• 19:00
Speaker 1: about here? Like? Do I just call him Damien? You
• 19:02
Speaker 1: got to do it with the Joneses and the Es.
• 19:04
Speaker 1: I have to do the whole name. Yeah, Freddy, did
• 19:07
Speaker 1: you see what happened to Jack Jones? That was one
• 19:08
Speaker 1: I didn't catch on no idea. I um, you know,
• 19:14
Speaker 1: on ESPN they said, oh, you know he's uh, he's
• 19:17
Speaker 1: out with a knee questionable. But I didn't hear the
• 19:20
Speaker 1: announcement in the press box. Um, so I didn't catch
• 19:23
Speaker 1: it either. And it's just a couple updates too to
• 19:26
Speaker 1: put out there. I mean, it sounded like from the
• 19:28
Speaker 1: locker room people were saying there was no boot or
• 19:30
Speaker 1: crutches or anything for Rumondre Stevenson seemed in generally good spirits.
• 19:34
Speaker 1: H So that's, you know, maybe a good sign. I know.
• 19:36
Speaker 1: Jack Jones tweeted out like maybe just I think a
• 19:38
Speaker 1: nice brain was the speculation on him. Not sure, but
• 19:41
Speaker 1: I mean cornerback issues right now in terms of depth
• 19:44
Speaker 1: with Mills being out. With him being out, they'll need
• 19:46
Speaker 1: it this week too, you know, would turn around and
• 19:49
Speaker 1: maybe they're gonna need it. We don't know about mccordy either. Yeah,
• 19:52
Speaker 1: good point, Freddie, another one of them. I looked like
• 19:54
Speaker 1: he may have gotten a concussion too. All of a sudden,
• 19:57
Speaker 1: the depth of the defensive batfield is getting a little been.
• 20:00
Speaker 1: I think it's scary. I mean, we talked about it
• 20:02
Speaker 1: last night a lot about just the pass rush, and
• 20:05
Speaker 1: I mean I think that that, you know, is what
• 20:06
Speaker 1: I've come back to is just the pass rush is
• 20:08
Speaker 1: just so critical and in this game coming up, it's
• 20:11
Speaker 1: it's gonna be huge, especially if they get Waller and Rent.
• 20:13
Speaker 1: And I thought that was the best element is when
• 20:15
Speaker 1: you got the lead in the fourth quarter, your pass
• 20:18
Speaker 1: rush came back. That's what you saw against the you know,
• 20:21
Speaker 1: the the Indies in the Jets when you had that,
• 20:25
Speaker 1: you want to but the pass rush kept a minute,
• 20:29
Speaker 1: But you have to. You got to say something about
• 20:31
Speaker 1: that Arizona offense and their penalties. It's unbelievable. Yeah, it
• 20:35
Speaker 1: really is. Yeah, I mean both both teams really way
• 20:39
Speaker 1: too many penalties. Both teams had eight penalties in the game. Um,
• 20:43
Speaker 1: they got to clean it up. But but Arizonas that's
• 20:46
Speaker 1: been a problem for them all. Yeah. They lead the
• 20:47
Speaker 1: league in offensive penalties. According to ESPN last night, they
• 20:51
Speaker 1: I think they average four almost four offensive penalties a game. Yeah,
• 20:56
Speaker 1: I mean I don't know how, like they had eight
• 20:58
Speaker 1: and like at least six seven offense. I think they
• 21:01
Speaker 1: had two illegal shifts and at least two least too
• 21:06
Speaker 1: far starts. Yeah, yeah, not good. They had an OLDPI
• 21:12
Speaker 1: and they had a block in the back. Yeah, you're right.
• 21:15
Speaker 1: So's like there's six right there out of eight. I mean,
• 21:19
Speaker 1: Patriots racking them up to I mean, that just continues
• 21:21
Speaker 1: to be an issue for them. Um, you know. I
• 21:24
Speaker 1: just the thing I was thinking though, is I mean,
• 21:26
Speaker 1: clearly the defense turned it around with those fourth down stops.
• 21:29
Speaker 1: Do you think though, I mean, like all of us, like,
• 21:31
Speaker 1: I just it's great. I've just seen them do this
• 21:33
Speaker 1: against backup quarterbacks so many times, and you know, I
• 21:36
Speaker 1: just wonder if they're getting to the point where it's like,
• 21:38
Speaker 1: we have to prove ourselves against a good offense. And
• 21:41
Speaker 1: I mean they'll certainly get a chance here down the stretch,
• 21:43
Speaker 1: but I just wonder if they're getting kind of sick
• 21:46
Speaker 1: of like, why can't we do this against a good team.
• 21:49
Speaker 1: And it's not even just that, It's just it's the
• 21:51
Speaker 1: disparity between how you go from so dominant against these
• 21:55
Speaker 1: backup teams with you know, backup quarterback tackles out to
• 21:59
Speaker 1: you know, a good team, just a good quarterback. Even
• 22:01
Speaker 1: they still have issues on the offensive line like Buffalo did.
• 22:04
Speaker 1: But yet you just look so different. I just don't
• 22:06
Speaker 1: get that disconnect. How can there be such a drop
• 22:08
Speaker 1: off tea team's part. It's two things. It's the better
• 22:11
Speaker 1: quarterback and also they get a lead. So the Patriots
• 22:15
Speaker 1: are trailing. You know what they do with these bad
• 22:18
Speaker 1: teams is you know, they get the lead and then
• 22:20
Speaker 1: they make the bad quarterback look bad. Um. You know
• 22:24
Speaker 1: you can't do that when when you're you're trailing. Yeah,
• 22:27
Speaker 1: I mean, if the brakes on last night, I mean
• 22:30
Speaker 1: I felt like they threw the brakes on last night,
• 22:31
Speaker 1: and you know, and then we're able to open the
• 22:33
Speaker 1: door when they got the lead, their defense started then,
• 22:36
Speaker 1: you know, and I was talking, I was like looking
• 22:38
Speaker 1: at it and and this is to your point, Fred
• 22:40
Speaker 1: about McCoy. I mean, they had two hundred yards of
• 22:42
Speaker 1: offense in the first half, right, and that I don't
• 22:46
Speaker 1: think they played great in the first half. I think
• 22:48
Speaker 1: Kingsbury was responsible for them not having more points. I
• 22:52
Speaker 1: thought he coached a bad game. I think you need
• 22:54
Speaker 1: to kick field goals when you have opportunities to agree,
• 22:58
Speaker 1: and I think that he turned to six seven game
• 23:01
Speaker 1: into a thirteen ten game with a really bad decision
• 23:04
Speaker 1: at the end of the first half. Let the clock
• 23:06
Speaker 1: wind down, call time out. Kick a field goal in
• 23:09
Speaker 1: the last player of the half. Worst than happens, It's
• 23:11
Speaker 1: is thirteen seven if he misses the people and people
• 23:14
Speaker 1: were criticizing the Patriots for kicking that field goal in
• 23:16
Speaker 1: the first half. I was like, no, take the points
• 23:19
Speaker 1: in a game like this. They weren't criticizing the Patriots
• 23:23
Speaker 1: for kicking the field goal. They were criticizing them for
• 23:25
Speaker 1: handing the ball off on the previous play. Well, I
• 23:28
Speaker 1: don't know. On the blog, they were like, go for it,
• 23:31
Speaker 1: fred it. It was a fifty one yard field goal
• 23:33
Speaker 1: with thirty seconds with like there was another one the
• 23:37
Speaker 1: other one, oh in the second half. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
• 23:40
Speaker 1: to tie the game. Okay, all right, I thought you
• 23:43
Speaker 1: men at the end of the first half. No, no,
• 23:45
Speaker 1: there was no other choice. Yeah, there was like four
• 23:47
Speaker 1: seconds left and a half. It was a fifty one
• 23:49
Speaker 1: yard field goal now and I didn't get the choice
• 23:50
Speaker 1: to hand it off to Kevin. That was a terrible call,
• 23:53
Speaker 1: Like you could have taken a shot to try to
• 23:55
Speaker 1: get a touchdown and then kick the field goal. Instead
• 23:58
Speaker 1: they hand the ball off, they fumbled and avoid disaster somehow. Yeah,
• 24:02
Speaker 1: I don't know how Mac came up with that because
• 24:04
Speaker 1: he wasn't even near the ball and he reached in
• 24:07
Speaker 1: him got Ardinal's gonna cardinal? And what was the clock
• 24:10
Speaker 1: rule on that? Like, what's supposed to happen on the fine? Well,
• 24:12
Speaker 1: once it was a loose ball, I think that they
• 24:14
Speaker 1: were trying to determine who had it, so they they
• 24:17
Speaker 1: stopped the clock. I thought they stopped it prematurely. But yeah,
• 24:21
Speaker 1: the Patriots could have called time out too. But if
• 24:23
Speaker 1: the ball's loose, yeah, like you don't have the ability
• 24:26
Speaker 1: to the play is not over. Fred, you catch any
• 24:28
Speaker 1: of the back and forth between Mac and the sidelines
• 24:32
Speaker 1: late in the game there, Oh yeah, oh yeah, So
• 24:34
Speaker 1: what were your thoughts on that? How did Herry Well,
• 24:36
Speaker 1: they were making a big deal about it on the
• 24:38
Speaker 1: broadcast Aikman And um yeah, Buck, Yeah, they actually, you know,
• 24:44
Speaker 1: it happened during a break, and when they came back
• 24:46
Speaker 1: from the break, they went and showed what happened while
• 24:50
Speaker 1: they were at the break. When early on when Mac
• 24:52
Speaker 1: and when waved off Patricia and they were all in
• 24:56
Speaker 1: Max's camp, you know, we don't blame him for being upset,
• 25:01
Speaker 1: being frustrated. It was all supporting Mac. That quarterback fraternity
• 25:06
Speaker 1: is a tight one, and I think that people feel
• 25:08
Speaker 1: like he's being done dirty. Yeah, you know, like they
• 25:11
Speaker 1: do a Losties, the Aikman's, you know, the Curt Warners
• 25:14
  Speaker 1: of the world. Well, there's a rumor, I don't know
• 25:16
Speaker 1: if it's true, um, that the owner stopped by the broadcast.
• 25:22
Speaker 1: It wasn't a rumor. He said it. Joe Buck said
• 25:25
Speaker 1: it during the stage. That doesn't normally happen. Yeah, why
• 25:28
Speaker 1: why did it happen? Um? I don't know. So you
• 25:31
Speaker 1: don't know what was said, but you know that's that's
• 25:35
Speaker 1: out there, right, be nice I'm seeing here for Phil
• 25:41
Speaker 1: Perry was just reporting sense of relief in the Patriots
• 25:44
Speaker 1: locker room last night, which I mean, I think there
• 25:46
Speaker 1: was a lot being put onto this game. I don't
• 25:47
Speaker 1: know how much of it they took to heart they had.
• 25:49
Speaker 1: I mean, they had to win it then, just like
• 25:51
Speaker 1: they have to win this one. Yep. Ye. The two
• 25:54
Speaker 1: bad teams that you're playing you have to beat if
• 25:56
Speaker 1: you have anything. And I think, you know, going back
• 25:58
Speaker 1: to the quarterback discussion, I think Eric Carr he's close
• 26:03
Speaker 1: to that Jared goa Kirk Cousins area. You know he's
• 26:09
Speaker 1: better than the quarterbacks that they've beaten for sure. Yeah,
• 26:13
Speaker 1: I would agree with that. He's capable of playing like
• 26:15
Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins played against you. I would agree with that.
• 26:18
Speaker 1: But he makes dumb mistakes too. So they've got all
• 26:21
  Speaker 1: the pieces. I mean, that's what's again. It's the I
• 26:24
Speaker 1: think the question of renfro and Waller and how much
• 26:26
Speaker 1: can they stretch the Patriots secondary of the Patriots safeties
• 26:29
Speaker 1: and all that. And they've got nothing out of those
• 26:31
Speaker 1: two guys all year the Raiders, So it will be
• 26:33
Speaker 1: interesting to see if he changes the offense and how
• 26:36
Speaker 1: much do they want to win for Josh, you know,
• 26:38
Speaker 1: like I know they're basically out of it, but is
• 26:40
Speaker 1: there some kind of motivation for them? I mean, we
• 26:42
Speaker 1: all know how the Raiders season's gone, and who knows
• 26:44
Speaker 1: how they might truly feel about Josh. Say, I was
• 26:47
Speaker 1: gonna say, you'll see how they feel, Yeah, because if
• 26:49
Speaker 1: they play a listless game, that's not a good sign
• 26:51
Speaker 1: for Josh. That's right, Paul, Because if anything you know
• 26:54
Speaker 1: Josh is you know they're gonna want to play hard
• 26:56
Speaker 1: because they know this is his old team. So, like
• 26:59
Speaker 1: you said, Paul, if they come out firing. They know that, Okay,
• 27:03
Speaker 1: they like their coach. If they come out flat, you know,
• 27:06
Speaker 1: as people say, then the message isn't getting through and
• 27:10
Speaker 1: they're not taking into consideration that this is Josh's old team. Yeah,
• 27:14
Speaker 1: and not just Josh too, but I mean Lombardi, carn Barsillo,
• 27:17
Speaker 1: I mean all the coaches, yeah that are there. Not
• 27:19
Speaker 1: to mention Chandler Jones dron Harmon. I said I got
• 27:22
Speaker 1: a chance. I got a chann on that one tonight, Chandler,
• 27:25
Speaker 1: I did pretty good. Uh all right, so we got
• 27:27
Speaker 1: Fred in the house. Five five pats, five hundred, give
• 27:30
Speaker 1: us a call. We'll talk about the game. Emails are
• 27:32
Speaker 1: rolling in webmail at or sorry, web radio at Patriots
• 27:35
Speaker 1: dot com. Let's jump to the phones real quick and
• 27:38
Speaker 1: check in with Patty from Agawam. Hey, Patty up, guys. Hey,
• 27:44
Speaker 1: so I'll issue my little maya kulpa from last night.
• 27:47
Speaker 1: I was wrong. I I'm part of that is when
• 27:50
Speaker 1: Murray went out on the third play of the game, like, um,
• 27:53
Speaker 1: I was like, Wow, we might actually have a chance
• 27:56
Speaker 1: to win this game now. But I wanted to bring
• 27:59
Speaker 1: up a couple things. Number one, UM, I've been really impressed,
• 28:03
Speaker 1: not just these last few weeks on the stack that
• 28:06
Speaker 1: Fouche has been getting. But I know, um, you brought
• 28:10
Speaker 1: up him being possibly a closer the last night, Paul,
• 28:13
Speaker 1: and I think somebody took a exception to that on
• 28:15
Speaker 1: the post Yeah, I got I got finger wagged on
• 28:18
Speaker 1: the postgame show, Freddie, Oh yeah by who some guy
• 28:22
  Speaker 1: he wasn't he wasn't wrong. I think I'm probably a
• 28:25
Speaker 1: little premature with that, but I think josh Ucha has
• 28:28
Speaker 1: the makings of one of these guys that can be
• 28:31
Speaker 1: a closer. You know, when you get the lead, you
• 28:33
Speaker 1: have him out there and you know, just let him
• 28:36
Speaker 1: go after the passer. And I think he's shown the
• 28:37
Speaker 1: ability to get there. And I don't know who's like
• 28:40
Speaker 1: been coaching him, but compared to what we saw early
• 28:44
Speaker 1: with him, he's taking a more direc route to the quarterback.
• 28:47
Speaker 1: He's he's like he usually you know, when we first
• 28:51
Speaker 1: saw him, he'd take a long way around and you
• 28:53
Speaker 1: know he'd be out of the play. But he's learning
• 28:55
Speaker 1: like an underneath swim move and he seems to be
• 29:00
Speaker 1: getting to the quarterback quicker than he was early in
• 29:03
Speaker 1: his career. So that's good. You know. However, he learned it,
• 29:06
Speaker 1: he did it on his own or somebody helped him.
• 29:09
Speaker 1: I see improvement there in the amount of moves that
• 29:13
Speaker 1: he's using. And one of his biggest players wasn't even
• 29:15
Speaker 1: a sack. It was when he hit Colt McCoy and
• 29:17
Speaker 1: caused the interception. Yeah yeah, those count two. Yep. Just
• 29:23
Speaker 1: the last few games, he's not even when he gets
• 29:26
Speaker 1: to the quarterback, he's thinking a lot of hurries and he's,
• 29:28
Speaker 1: like Fred said, I mean, he's doing it with an
• 29:31
Speaker 1: array of moves, and it looks like he's he's doing
• 29:33
Speaker 1: it with a little bit of power too. So maybe
• 29:35
Speaker 1: they got him on the program, you know, a few
• 29:38
Speaker 1: weeks into the season. But I'm liking what I'm seeing
• 29:41
Speaker 1: with him, and just regard him the draft the least
• 29:45
Speaker 1: I think you could say, like twenty twenty, twenty twenty one,
• 29:49
Speaker 1: and this year's draft, I mean, the books still open
• 29:52
Speaker 1: on it, but it looks like you might have gotten
• 29:54
Speaker 1: a few talented players. I mean, with you got Tugger
• 29:57
Speaker 1: Ouch and on WHENU and twenty and of course the
• 30:00
Speaker 1: guy's last year and you know, we'll just see how
• 30:04
Speaker 1: it plays out, but it looks like they've actually infused
• 30:06
Speaker 1: some some decent talent and uh, now they just need
• 30:09
Speaker 1: to get some tackles in this year's draft. And that's
• 30:12
Speaker 1: all I got. Guys. Speaking of the pass rush, A
• 30:15
Speaker 1: guy who had a pretty good game last night was
• 30:17
Speaker 1: a quality Yep, he showed up. He did some really
• 30:21
Speaker 1: good work inside there. Yeah, just to real quickque back
• 30:25
Speaker 1: on Huch like, Uh, you know, I talked to Don
• 30:27
Speaker 1: Brown when he came out, and he just said he's
• 30:28
Speaker 1: he came out like kind of ready with the ability
• 30:31
Speaker 1: to get around the edge and to bend the edge.
• 30:32
Speaker 1: And I think, you know, to Fred's point, he's kind
• 30:35
Speaker 1: of rounded things out. I just want to see him
• 30:37
Speaker 1: produce against I just think teams. Well, I'd like to
• 30:39
Speaker 1: see him do it against good tackles too, not backups.
• 30:41
Speaker 1: But he he I think he's being asked to just
• 30:46
Speaker 1: rush the passer. Now. That's why I say, I think
• 30:48
Speaker 1: he has a chance to be a closer. Stop trying
• 30:51
Speaker 1: to make these guys be able to do everything so
• 30:55
Speaker 1: you're not predictable. Some guys just have very specific roles
• 30:59
Speaker 1: and if they can do them well, I mean I
• 31:01
Speaker 1: think it's Freddie. I think he has like ten sacks
• 31:03
Speaker 1: in his last seven games or six or something like
• 31:06
Speaker 1: that ten and a half of the season, right, So
• 31:09
Speaker 1: I if he can have that kind of production, that's
• 31:13
Speaker 1: really valuable if you if you were a good team. Yeah,
• 31:15
Speaker 1: well that's the thing about him. I mean you mentioned
• 31:18
Speaker 1: Don Brown, uh does his coach over at Michigan. He
• 31:23
Speaker 1: said he wasn't good against the run, said they didn't
• 31:26
Speaker 1: play why asked her so much? And they showed a
• 31:30
Speaker 1: play where you know, like he just couldn't stop the runs.
• 31:33
  Speaker 1: So that's what he is right now. He's a he's
• 31:37
Speaker 1: a past rush specialist. Ye. And then in regards to
• 31:40
Speaker 1: the draft, though, I think, like my question is who
• 31:42
Speaker 1: are they going to keep? Who are they going to resign?
• 31:44
Speaker 1: You know, and we're talking twenty twenty. You're getting on
• 31:46
Speaker 1: Michael and when he's gonna you know, start the train
• 31:49
Speaker 1: of these teams like who is a long term guy
• 31:51
Speaker 1: that you believe in? And I think a lot of
• 31:52
Speaker 1: these guys are finding good players and you should find
• 31:54
Speaker 1: good players. I was gonna say, I think a lot
• 31:56
Speaker 1: of teams get the players of back heal. You need
• 31:58
Speaker 1: guys and that's what Marcus j Is making me feel like,
• 32:01
Speaker 1: you need guys who are special. Are you're getting special
• 32:04
Speaker 1: difference making kind of players. He's the only one right
• 32:06
Speaker 1: now I feel has the potential maybe bar more if
• 32:09
Speaker 1: he can regain what he kind of had. I saw
• 32:11
Speaker 1: some of that, but that's what you need. You need
• 32:13
Speaker 1: special guys, and I just I still don't know if
• 32:16
Speaker 1: there's enough of them yet. Let's go back to the
• 32:19
Speaker 1: phones here Todd, North Carolina, Hey Todd, how's it going?
• 32:23
Speaker 1: Hey guys. This is the first time ever I've actually
• 32:26
Speaker 1: an agreement with Paul. I think previously because I called
• 32:28
Speaker 1: him in and said, hey, what do we need to
• 32:30
Speaker 1: do to move forward with this team about five weeks ago?
• 32:33
Speaker 1: And I said, well, I need to think we need
• 32:34
Speaker 1: somebody like Ouche to pick things up on the defense.
• 32:37
Speaker 1: And hey, I agree, uche is looking great. Now. My
• 32:41
Speaker 1: question is Paul in the mail bag, this is specifically
• 32:43
Speaker 1: for you. You You said there's no way that they'd get
• 32:46
Speaker 1: like a coach what's his face from the Saints to
• 32:50
Speaker 1: come in and the coach the offensive? Yeah, yeah, Why
• 32:55
Speaker 1: would Sean Payton want to be offensive coordinator under Bill?
• 32:59
Speaker 1: I agree? Oh, I thought, is do you think there's
• 33:01
Speaker 1: any chance that Bill would move up to become a
• 33:04
Speaker 1: GM and then we could get somebody like that in
• 33:06
Speaker 1: to be a head coach. No, is there any chance
• 33:08
Speaker 1: of that? Or is that just not I think would
• 33:11
Speaker 1: do that either. I don't think Peyton would do that either.
• 33:13
Speaker 1: I agree with you, Fred, but I also don't think
• 33:15
Speaker 1: Bill's Bill's not interested in not coaching. He wants to
• 33:18
Speaker 1: break that record. Yeah, I think that's part of the part.
• 33:22
Speaker 1: But I agree with Fred. Freddy's point is valid too.
• 33:24
Speaker 1: Why would you want to come in and work under Belichick? Right?
• 33:27
Speaker 1: I guess yeah, we'll buildn't want it left the Jets.
• 33:31
Speaker 1: You don't want to work under as a head coach? Okay,
• 33:36
Speaker 1: just a thought. Thanks guys, Merry Christmas, Thanks Harry Christmas, Todd,
• 33:39
Speaker 1: it's very nice. Emails are rolling in here, but let's
• 33:43
Speaker 1: all right, I'll really one see Fred, I don't just
• 33:45
Speaker 1: pick up this. One's from Jack down the road in Stowton.
• 33:49
Speaker 1: For the last few weeks, I've been thinking about how
• 33:51
Speaker 1: much the game has changed. I grew up in an
• 33:52
Speaker 1: era with a ground and pound run games, with the
• 33:54
Speaker 1: way most offenses function. Now my own kids growing up
• 33:57
Speaker 1: playing a football game called Moss. The game's object is
• 33:59
Speaker 1: just one kid throwing to a group of kids and
• 34:01
Speaker 1: seeing which one mosses the others. It made me think,
• 34:04
Speaker 1: how now there are so many wide receivers who want
• 34:06
Speaker 1: to be like Randy and would have been some other
• 34:08
Speaker 1: athletes that have transcended the game like Randy Moss transcended
• 34:13
Speaker 1: wide receivers. Anybody, Can we get one? Can we find ones?
• 34:16
Speaker 1: There's probably like five of them right now. Yeah, you know,
• 34:19
Speaker 1: I think Freddie's boy, Justin Jefferson is in that conversation.
• 34:22
Speaker 1: I think the guy you saw last night is in
• 34:23
Speaker 1: that conversation this week. Like that play he made in
• 34:26
Speaker 1: the back of the end zone, like ridiculous. A lot
• 34:31
Speaker 1: of people said the past that Hollywood Brown. Yeah, for
• 34:38
Speaker 1: no reason. He really didn't need to die. I think
• 34:41
Speaker 1: it was a touchdown if he just kept running. Yeah,
• 34:44
Speaker 1: I agree he made it a more difficult catch than
• 34:47
Speaker 1: it needed to be. It was still a flat out drop.
• 34:49
Speaker 1: But I agree with who it was a guy's on
• 34:52
Speaker 1: your blog. If he just kept running, I think he
• 34:54
Speaker 1: catches it in stride. That was a really good throw
• 34:56
Speaker 1: from McCoy. Yep, another one from Alex and Raleigh Big
• 35:01
Speaker 1: Marcus Jones fan. I think Marcus Jones is really developing
• 35:04
Speaker 1: and do a great piece for our team. Do you
• 35:05
Speaker 1: think he could develop into that Slater role in the future,
• 35:08
Speaker 1: where he is a leader in the locker room and
• 35:09
Speaker 1: voice for the team. He just seems to be everything
• 35:11
Speaker 1: the Patriots love and a player like Mike says, he
• 35:14
Speaker 1: plays scrappy and last night was another showing of many
• 35:16
Speaker 1: things he can do for the team. I can't really
• 35:18
Speaker 1: speak to him off the field. I haven't Yeah, and
• 35:20
  Speaker 1: I haven't really happened now. I haven't had the opportunity
• 35:22
Speaker 1: to really talk to him and see what kind of
• 35:24
Speaker 1: personality he has. There's been so many great personality guys.
• 35:27
Speaker 1: I just want guys that can play the game at
• 35:29
Speaker 1: a high level. Now. I don't care who the next
• 35:31
Speaker 1: locker room leader is, Like, just give me guys who
• 35:33
Speaker 1: can who can push the envelope. Yeah, it's nice to
• 35:35
Speaker 1: have one of those kinds of players. It seems like
• 35:37
Speaker 1: they don't, you know, like the Patriots don't really get
• 35:40
Speaker 1: those kinds of guys. And I'm not talking about guys
• 35:41
Speaker 1: that do different things. I'm talking about the electric ability
• 35:46
Speaker 1: to impact a game in different ways, you know, Like
• 35:50
Speaker 1: he's an explosive player. He's just surprising me too with
• 35:53
Speaker 1: his strength. Like some of the hits like he's just
• 35:55
Speaker 1: very strong on his feet and he's really quick too.
• 35:59
Speaker 1: It's coming again. Other uh Paul the middle, Yeah, Yeah,
• 36:03
Speaker 1: that's what I mean. On a tight end too. That
• 36:06
Speaker 1: was a big guy. That was a big guy he
• 36:09
Speaker 1: hit that was unbelievable. Yeah, big tight end. I know,
• 36:14
Speaker 1: I know I thought for a second that was going
• 36:15
Speaker 1: to be a call. Um. Well yeah, the other one,
• 36:20
Speaker 1: look the other way. It's too small. Um, it's a
• 36:22
Speaker 1: good one. And I have been meaning to like just
• 36:24
Speaker 1: look this because I'm sure it's on Twitter. But but
• 36:26
Speaker 1: PAULI in La writes and just can we distress? Can
• 36:29
Speaker 1: we discuss screens not working? W two F screens? How
• 36:33
Speaker 1: many screens did they run? I mean, and when we
• 36:34
Speaker 1: talked about it, you know, you know Vance Joseph last
• 36:36
Speaker 1: week talking about all they do screens, they and I mean,
• 36:39
Speaker 1: they just like they leaned into it. I I don't know,
• 36:41
Speaker 1: I like i'd love to know if that kind of
• 36:43
Speaker 1: surprised me because of that, like I would have thought
• 36:46
Speaker 1: they would have gone out of their way to do
• 36:47
Speaker 1: something a little bit different. And Freddie I joked around
• 36:50
Speaker 1: with you or it might have been with Matt with
• 36:53
Speaker 1: no socks when that happened, you wondered if Vance Joseph
• 36:57
Speaker 1: was almost trying to bait them into doing something different.
• 37:00
Speaker 1: Yeah right, you know, no, like yeah, you know, and
• 37:04
Speaker 1: then they went out and called it exactly the way
• 37:07
Speaker 1: Vance shows. If didn't they really didn't put much stress
• 37:09
Speaker 1: on the Cardinals defense, which sucks by the way, um,
• 37:12
Speaker 1: and they didn't really they couldn't move the ball, like
• 37:15
Speaker 1: it just was odd to me, Like I think Fred's
• 37:17
Speaker 1: Fred's texted me in the middle of the postgame show
• 37:19
Speaker 1: was dead on, like that wasn't normal offense. I mean,
• 37:22
Speaker 1: it wasn't like it was like hitting you know, your
• 37:26
Speaker 1: head against the wall offense, you know, And I mean,
• 37:29
Speaker 1: how much do you think? I mean, this is probably
• 37:31
Speaker 1: what we're down to. It's like the final two, the
• 37:32
Speaker 1: Great Playoff. We're down to offensive line and offense design.
• 37:37
Speaker 1: And I just, I mean, I'm starting to think at
• 37:39
Speaker 1: this point it's hard to maybe get to the offensive
• 37:42
Speaker 1: design when the offensive line has just been this inconsistent
• 37:46
Speaker 1: and this bad and they don't trust it and it
• 37:48
Speaker 1: feels like they're in their own head and this is
• 37:50
Speaker 1: like a major concern for the game plan, which it
• 37:52
Speaker 1: should be when you're starting, you know, Connor McDermott and
• 37:55
Speaker 1: and Trump Brown and you know it was Trump Brown
• 37:57
Speaker 1: going to be healthy, and like, I mean, I'm kind
• 37:59
Speaker 1: of giving them a as at some point for being sick.
• 38:01
Speaker 1: But like, what are you hearing about Freddy? You hearing
• 38:03
Speaker 1: anything about um Yadney Could just um? I mean he
• 38:07
Speaker 1: was available. Yeah, I find that a little warm ups though,
• 38:11
Speaker 1: you know, yeah, both Brown and Could just we're not
• 38:13
Speaker 1: out for warm ups. So I don't know what he
• 38:15
Speaker 1: still is like a back in a calf, I think
• 38:17
Speaker 1: is yeah, you know, but this line should not be
• 38:21
Speaker 1: that bad. No, they had four, they had four starters
• 38:24
Speaker 1: in place. They were missing right they're missing the right tackle.
• 38:27
Speaker 1: I agree, it should not be that bad. They have
• 38:30
Speaker 1: issues on the left side, I think strange and Brown
• 38:33
Speaker 1: or struggling, you know. And you know again this you know,
• 38:38
Speaker 1: Patricia's mark is on this too. You know, he's the
• 38:40
Speaker 1: offensive line coach. You know, I hate to pile on,
• 38:44
Speaker 1: but you like, you know, it's it's not looking good
• 38:48
Speaker 1: and he's the guy who's responsible. Another one from Bennett
• 38:53
Speaker 1: from San Clemente um and this is kind of along
• 38:56
Speaker 1: this line. I sent this email yesterday. I was wondering,
• 38:58
Speaker 1: do you think the offense one this game despite the
• 39:00
Speaker 1: play calling from coach Pencil or did coach Pencil have
• 39:03
Speaker 1: a decent night of play calling? I think the defense
• 39:07
Speaker 1: won the game. Yeah, but we talked about, you know,
• 39:11
Speaker 1: some of the Hunter Henry things of you know, I mean,
• 39:13
Speaker 1: a couple of plays you kind of got a guy
• 39:15
Speaker 1: cut loose. Yeah, I mean every I mean, everybody makes
• 39:17
Speaker 1: a player two, you know, like during the course of it.
• 39:19
Speaker 1: I mean it's rare that you don't like, like even
• 39:21
Speaker 1: the Buffalo game, you know, Marcus Jones had a forty
• 39:23
Speaker 1: eight yard touchdown, Like even in your really bad games.
• 39:27
Speaker 1: There are a couple of plays they had three hundred
• 39:29
Speaker 1: and twenty yards and they scored twenty points against the
• 39:31
Speaker 1: worst defense in football, not not not hyperbole, the worst
• 39:35
Speaker 1: defense in football thirty second ranked. So to me, the
• 39:39
Speaker 1: defense won the game. Oh yeah, yeah, I mean yeah,
• 39:43
Speaker 1: like you said, they managed to score twenty point. But yeah,
• 39:48
Speaker 1: the defense won this game. And I think that Cardinals
• 39:51
Speaker 1: would throw parades if they held everybody to twenty. Yeah.
• 39:56
Speaker 1: David and Bethlehem writes in uh he likes he likes
• 39:58
Speaker 1: pp induce the PP induce like ham and eggs, P.
• 40:02
  Speaker 1: B and J perfect another one. Marcus Jones, Patrick's Pat's
• 40:06
Speaker 1: wide receiver room has vacancies. Absolutely make him the slot
• 40:09
Speaker 1: receiver and give strong and Kevin Harris more snaps Mac
• 40:13
Speaker 1: is doing fine. Hasn't his arm improved too? How can
• 40:16
Speaker 1: the Pats move on from John who seems unable to block? Well?
• 40:19
Speaker 1: Should Kayley be criticized? I can't. I can't get to Kayley.
• 40:23
Speaker 1: I don't know. I can't get past the whole offense yet.
• 40:26
Speaker 1: And I do think the tight ends struggle blocking. But
• 40:28
Speaker 1: is that more Kaylee or Line? I just I mean,
• 40:33
Speaker 1: because I think blocking isn't necessarily the same thing, right,
• 40:36
Speaker 1: And that's I mean. We talked about it last night
• 40:38
Speaker 1: fred On on the postgame Show, which I thought was
• 40:40
Speaker 1: a good point by me, actually something I hadn't thought
• 40:42
Speaker 1: about of, you know, just that the two tight end
• 40:45
Speaker 1: offense anxious to see this maybe we should just reply
• 40:47
Speaker 1: arm breaking Pat on the back. No, it was something
• 40:50
Speaker 1: that there's something, you know, you come to something suddenly
• 40:52
Speaker 1: and you're like, yeah, that makes sense to me if
• 40:54
Speaker 1: just you know these guys that are not those those
• 40:56
Speaker 1: versatile tight ends and you're not really getting they're kind
• 40:58
Speaker 1: of in the middle, squished like great mister Miagi. You know,
• 41:01
Speaker 1: they're not really blockers. They're okay, they're okay blockers, and
• 41:04
Speaker 1: they're okay receivers. But playing playing twelve personnelity, you just
• 41:07
Speaker 1: you're not able to exploit the matchups with these guys.
• 41:10
Speaker 1: And you know, just it seems to me like the
• 41:12
Speaker 1: bottom has kind of fallen out recently with with Johnny.
• 41:15
Speaker 1: It just seems like they're trying even less to get
• 41:17
Speaker 1: him involved now. And I mean, yes, it was a
• 41:19
Speaker 1: huge screen game. Usually that's his jam. I think they
• 41:21
Speaker 1: threw him that one. Yeah, I only remember the one ball,
• 41:24
Speaker 1: but it was it was off target too. It wasn't
• 41:26
Speaker 1: a good throw. Um. I didn't really see him as
• 41:29
Speaker 1: being a big part of the game, you know, yesterday
• 41:32
Speaker 1: and I didn't really see Henry as a big part
• 41:34
Speaker 1: of the game. They just happened to hit two seam
• 41:36
Speaker 1: routes to him, Um, you know, one across the middle
• 41:38
Speaker 1: at the end of the first half in the hurry
• 41:40
Speaker 1: up and and one what you know in the fourth
• 41:42
Speaker 1: quarter to to you know, had that that touchdown drive
• 41:45
Speaker 1: that ended the game. Yeah, you know, going back to
• 41:48
Speaker 1: the defense ball. On the pregame show, you had some
• 41:51
Speaker 1: interesting stats about points scored in in Patriots wins versus losses. Yeah,
• 41:57
Speaker 1: and once again they had to the game where they
• 42:01
Speaker 1: you know, uh they had to uh you know, allow
• 42:05
Speaker 1: less than fourteen points, right, which is why I think,
• 42:08
Speaker 1: you know, had the other team had its offense in place,
• 42:12
Speaker 1: I think it could have unfolded different way. I mean,
• 42:14
Speaker 1: I even think at thirteen thirteen and Arizona has the ball,
• 42:18
Speaker 1: they were able to get it off their goal line,
• 42:20
Speaker 1: they got a first down, and they looked like they
• 42:22
Speaker 1: were on the on the way to another first down,
• 42:24
Speaker 1: and Hopkins inexplicably is running across the field with the
• 42:27
Speaker 1: ball hanging out, um, and just kind of lost it.
• 42:30
Speaker 1: Like you watched the replay, kind of doesn't even hit
• 42:33
Speaker 1: the ball, but he really didn't knock it out. Yeah,
• 42:37
Speaker 1: he gets credit because he made the tackle. It's a
• 42:39
Speaker 1: forced fumble. But even like he joined I don't know
• 42:42
Speaker 1: if you've heard us with him, he joined us last night, Freddie. Um,
• 42:46
Speaker 1: he kinda was like, yeah, you know, I was, I
• 42:48
Speaker 1: kept my leverage and had him. You know, I don't
• 42:53
Speaker 1: necessarily think that that was a forced fumble quote Uncright,
• 42:58
Speaker 1: And then they get a little bit of a break,
• 42:59
Speaker 1: like the ball looks like he's just roll into the sideline,
• 43:01
Speaker 1: didn't just stopped? Yeah, you know, for for McMillan to
• 43:04
Speaker 1: pick it up and run it in. That's I mean,
• 43:06
Speaker 1: that's the play of the game. I really think it
• 43:08
Speaker 1: could still be thirteen thirteen. If that play didn't happen,
• 43:11
Speaker 1: I think it would have been over buy now, Paul,
• 43:15
Speaker 1: Maybe the way the game was going, I'm not so sure,
• 43:18
Speaker 1: would have been twenty seven. More injuries and overtime. Yeah, um,
• 43:22
Speaker 1: Patriots lost a lot of guys last night, Freddie. We
• 43:25
Speaker 1: got Tony Tony rights in, although I want two wide
• 43:28
Speaker 1: receivers actually good ones for a change in rounds one
• 43:30
Speaker 1: and two. The team's first three draft choices instead better
• 43:32
Speaker 1: be offensive lineman because only Andrews is worth keeping gone.
• 43:35
Speaker 1: Should be the days with a Pat's draft and offensive
• 43:37
Speaker 1: lineman in the sixth round in the hopes of developing
• 43:39
Speaker 1: him into a serviceable player three years later. Oh man,
• 43:43
Speaker 1: it worked out for Michael Lawin you. Yeah, I mean,
• 43:46
  Speaker 1: here's a sixth round pick that's developed into a pretty
• 43:49
Speaker 1: good player right away. What do you think the temperature
• 43:51
Speaker 1: test is on? Cool? Strange? Like really right now? I
• 43:53
Speaker 1: mean I think we all agree he's had some some struggles.
• 43:56
Speaker 1: Are we are we? You know, saying he had trying
• 43:59
Speaker 1: to make a big jump thrown into the flame. He's
• 44:01
Speaker 1: gonna get stronger, He'll have an off season. Um, you
• 44:04
Speaker 1: know he should be better. But how much better? I
• 44:06
  Speaker 1: don't know, Do we know? I don't know. But I'm
• 44:08
Speaker 1: not willing to say that he's a bust because I
• 44:10
Speaker 1: do think he came from a smaller school and he
• 44:13
Speaker 1: was a little undersized. He needs some some bulk um
• 44:16
Speaker 1: and strength. And if he can get that, then let's
• 44:19
Speaker 1: see what it looks like. If it looks similar to this,
• 44:22
Speaker 1: then you know it's a misevaluation. I like his attitude though,
• 44:25
Speaker 1: I mean he plays with that little snarly edge that
• 44:27
Speaker 1: that I like, little extra business. Kind of a pain
• 44:29
Speaker 1: to play against. You see guys getting annoyed with him.
• 44:31
Speaker 1: Like I just I gotta be honest with defensive linement.
• 44:34
Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind playing against him because it seems like
• 44:36
Speaker 1: you can get to the quarterback when you're opposite him
• 44:38
Speaker 1: run blocking. He seems I saw a couple of good reps,
• 44:40
Speaker 1: but I mean it all, it all stands, But I
• 44:43
Speaker 1: think that's a big thing to watch going forward here
• 44:46
Speaker 1: in front of those emails coming in getting the dings.
• 44:52
Speaker 1: Uh you can hear that, yeah, mute button or something. Uh,
• 44:58
Speaker 1: that's all right, though dead in some flavor to the show.
• 45:01
Speaker 1: Let's go to Juan from Mexico. Hi'all, what happened to
• 45:04
Speaker 1: the diamond formation or some type of wrinkles in the offense?
• 45:07
Speaker 1: I know they will not magically solve the problems that
• 45:10
Speaker 1: they have on the offensive side of the ball. Correct
• 45:11
Speaker 1: me if I'm wrong. They've not used that type of
• 45:13
Speaker 1: formation or any trick plays at all, aside from putting
• 45:16
Speaker 1: Marcus Jones out there, which in some instances it is
• 45:18
Speaker 1: needed to spark some drives. And he also say, oh, hey, Fred,
• 45:21
Speaker 1: how about some extra bonus for Duce and Paul for
• 45:23
Speaker 1: the quick turnaround from the postgame show and pee that
• 45:25
Speaker 1: they had to do. I like that, Huan. I think
• 45:29
Speaker 1: it's a good question that we haven't, you know, like
• 45:31
Speaker 1: they started throw some twists and then all of a sudden,
• 45:32
Speaker 1: that was the Jets game, Right, wasn't the Jets game
• 45:35
Speaker 1: when they used that three three guys in the backfield,
• 45:38
Speaker 1: you know, kind of in a triangle, and they they
• 45:40
Speaker 1: got a couple of good plays. They want one good
• 45:42
Speaker 1: run and then a play action off of that and
• 45:44
Speaker 1: they got a good catch and run from John and Smith.
• 45:47
Speaker 1: It just goes back to running plays, not really building
• 45:50
Speaker 1: an offense week to week, not really having a plan
• 45:52
Speaker 1: to build off of things. And I mean, I know
• 45:54
Speaker 1: Evan wrote about this too, you know, all the play
• 45:56
Speaker 1: action and and the screens that they're doing, you know,
• 45:59
Speaker 1: plays that they can do counter off of that. I
• 46:01
  Speaker 1: just don't I don't see it. That doesn't feel like
• 46:03
Speaker 1: they're building to anything. It feels like they're just kind
• 46:05
Speaker 1: of trying to survive each snap. The other part of
• 46:08
Speaker 1: that is when you have those kinds of wrinkles and
• 46:11
Speaker 1: then you do them. Now you've done them, and people
• 46:14
Speaker 1: prepare for them, do you know what I mean? I
• 46:16
Speaker 1: think it becomes a little bit harder just every game.
• 46:19
Speaker 1: And they may have been something very specifically about the
• 46:22
Speaker 1: Jets defense that led them to that course of action,
• 46:26
Speaker 1: because we know how game plan oriented they are. You know,
• 46:29
Speaker 1: I'm not telling you they should never do it again,
• 46:31
Speaker 1: because I actually was very complimentary of Patricia that for
• 46:36
Speaker 1: those plays. I thought that was something I hadn't seen
• 46:38
Speaker 1: and they worked. I think, you know, the play to
• 46:43
Speaker 1: get Hunter Henry all By himself. He was uncovered on
• 46:45
Speaker 1: that play last night. That's got to at least some
• 46:49
Speaker 1: have something to do with play design. Yeah, so they
• 46:52
Speaker 1: can do it, they just need to find a way
• 46:54
Speaker 1: to do it more consistently. Kind of spart my thoughts
• 46:56
Speaker 1: going towards the Raiders a little bit with Josh his
• 46:59
Speaker 1: pension for trick plays, timely trick plays, little wrinkles for teams.
• 47:04
Speaker 1: I think there's probably something in store for the Patriots
• 47:07
Speaker 1: coming up this weekend. I would bet that they'll have
• 47:10
Speaker 1: a little bit of trickeration coming down the pike probably,
• 47:12
Speaker 1: So Fred, how how emotional will you be if Josh
• 47:17
Speaker 1: is fizz pumping? Yeah? I won't like that. But I
• 47:21
Speaker 1: think I think he's learned his lesson respectful respectful clapping.
• 47:27
Speaker 1: I think people have gotten back to him about my thoughts,
• 47:29
Speaker 1: so he knows. Yeah, it's you're probably right. Yeah, we
• 47:33
Speaker 1: take anything from that preseason game, and is there any
• 47:35
Speaker 1: value to having been out there having seen them a
• 47:38
Speaker 1: little bit? Probably a little bit, but no, I mean
• 47:42
Speaker 1: I think that they know what offense Josh is running, obviously,
• 47:45
Speaker 1: so I think it's you know, I think the bigger
• 47:50
Speaker 1: impact is the institutional knowledge that they would bring to
• 47:54
Speaker 1: the table going against the Patriots. Yeah, it's just like that.
• 47:58
Speaker 1: He knows Bill, Bill know him, he knows Patricia probably
• 48:02
Speaker 1: like what kind of you know, So it's it's tended
• 48:06
Speaker 1: screens and thing. What would you give to just hear
• 48:09
Speaker 1: Josh McDaniel's unadulterated opinion about what the Patriots have been
• 48:13
Speaker 1: doing on offense this year, just no holds barred. He's
• 48:15
Speaker 1: just gonna lay it on you. Yeah. I would be
• 48:17
Speaker 1: there for any shows where you could hear that, like
• 48:20
Speaker 1: Bill telling you what he really thinks of the opponent,
• 48:23
Speaker 1: you know, and then that kind of thing, Josh telling
• 48:25
Speaker 1: you what he really really they replace they replacing me
• 48:29
Speaker 1: with a defensive coordinator really like I think that'd be
• 48:32
Speaker 1: great big game. Well, we'll have to keep an eye
• 48:35
Speaker 1: on h on all these uh you know Hunter, Renfro,
• 48:38
Speaker 1: Darren Waller, if they're going to practice this week. Um,
• 48:41
Speaker 1: I just wanted before Uh we should have some food
• 48:43
Speaker 1: coming soon. Oh god, I'm just seeing the text coming
• 48:46
Speaker 1: from Hardy right now. And oh never mind, I thought
• 48:49
Speaker 1: he was gonna he's gonna make fun of me for
• 48:51
Speaker 1: for hosting hosting. I know people he's on the radio.
• 48:54
Speaker 1: I just probably still listens to our show though, right
• 48:57
Speaker 1: it's that time of year. Um good, A quick, quick
• 49:00
Speaker 1: little plaoff check in, just a quick little one. I
• 49:02
Speaker 1: know you check in little playoffs. Um. So the Patriots
• 49:05
Speaker 1: have moved into seventh place, the final spot. The Dolphins
• 49:09
Speaker 1: are falling a little bit lately here with what is
• 49:11
Speaker 1: it two straight losses? I believe, yeah, um, and then
• 49:14
Speaker 1: we know, you know, it's kind of coming down Patriots, Chargers, Jets.
• 49:18
Speaker 1: Maybe the Jaguars lurking, but really that's it Patriots, Chargers, Jets.
• 49:21
Speaker 1: And you know when I look at the Chargers schedule
• 49:24
Speaker 1: Tennessee at Indie, Rams at Denver, I mean very very
• 49:29
Speaker 1: manageable slate. I'll put it that way. We know the
• 49:31
Speaker 1: charges of the Chargers. Compare that to the Patriots though,
• 49:34
Speaker 1: Las Vegas, the Bengals, the Dolphins, and then at the Bills. Um,
• 49:39
  Speaker 1: it's a it's the Patriots got the toughest slate. I
• 49:41
Speaker 1: mean it's really I feel like the Jets too. I
• 49:45
Speaker 1: think the Chargers would have the easiest. I think the
• 49:48
Speaker 1: Jets have Detroit at home. Um yeah, Jets are Detroit, Jacksonville,
• 49:54
Speaker 1: Seattle at Miami. So that's um, like I would say
• 49:58
Speaker 1: sort of middle. I think the Patriots is the most difficult,
• 50:00
Speaker 1: the Jets is middle of the road, and the Chargers
• 50:03
Speaker 1: on paper is easy. I don't think you can pencil
• 50:06
Speaker 1: and wins for these teams, just like we always say,
• 50:08
Speaker 1: and Freddie says it all the time. With the Patriots,
• 50:11
  Speaker 1: you can't just assume they're gonna win. I don't think
• 50:13
Speaker 1: you can assume the Chargers are at a place where
• 50:16
Speaker 1: you can just write in w's. They lost to Jacksonville
• 50:18
Speaker 1: at home earlier in the year. I think they lost.
• 50:22
Speaker 1: They've they've lost some bad games, and we'll see. Right now,
• 50:26
Speaker 1: it looks like they're plan they're playing well. I thought
• 50:28
Speaker 1: they played with a lot of emotion the other night
• 50:31
Speaker 1: against Miami and probably dominated the game for sixty minutes
• 50:35
Speaker 1: and should have won by multiple scores. And they look
• 50:37
Speaker 1: up at the end of the game when they're having
• 50:38
Speaker 1: to recover an onside kick. So I think that they
• 50:43
Speaker 1: can they can slip up two, but that that's the
• 50:45
Speaker 1: easiest schedule of the three. The other end of the spectrum,
• 50:48
Speaker 1: the Dolphins. We're talking a little bit off air previously
• 50:50
Speaker 1: about this, and I think we were cut on the
• 50:52
Speaker 1: same page. Felt like two games ago against the forty
• 50:54
Speaker 1: nine ers, it just felt like two it was kind
• 50:56
Speaker 1: of off. But this last game, this game, it look
• 50:57
Speaker 1: like everything was off. Is this I think I went
• 51:00
Speaker 1: into a swoon as this is I wondering out. I
• 51:03
Speaker 1: wonder if teams are figured them out because everything is
• 51:05
Speaker 1: over the middle. It seems like he has a hard
• 51:07
Speaker 1: time pushing the ball to the sidelines. Um, I don't
• 51:10
Speaker 1: think they've run the ball enough. I wonder if defense
• 51:13
Speaker 1: is just saying it, we just we we bracket. You know,
• 51:15
Speaker 1: it's kind of like the two thousand and nine Belichick.
• 51:17
Speaker 1: You know, we bracket Tyreek Hill in the middle and
• 51:20
Speaker 1: make him go somewhere else. What else are gonna Dole's
• 51:24
Speaker 1: been quiet lately. I know he's been dealing with some injuries. Um,
• 51:28
Speaker 1: they don't seem to target him enough. I don't think
• 51:30
Speaker 1: they get get Sicky involved enough. I think they have
• 51:32
Speaker 1: a lot of weapons, and it seems like it's very
• 51:34
Speaker 1: Tyreek Hill centric that offense. I was so impressed with
• 51:38
Speaker 1: two him just to see things kind of go. Yeah, Freddie,
• 51:40
Speaker 1: I was telling I was telling deuced Freddie. I was wrong,
• 51:43
Speaker 1: you know with my argument with Evan about whether or
• 51:45
Speaker 1: not the offense would look different with Mac, it would
• 51:47
Speaker 1: look the same. I agree, Yeah, Mac, And two of
• 51:51
Speaker 1: the last two weeks, I think Mac is perfectly capable
• 51:54
Speaker 1: of looking like too. I was wrong, Okay, all right,
• 51:58
Speaker 1: I was being sarcastic too much. Too has been awful, right, Well,
• 52:04
  Speaker 1: I hope it. I hope it continues. I mean, I
• 52:05
  Speaker 1: think that's a big game for Well. I think that's
• 52:07
Speaker 1: you know, and that's the one I had targeted as
• 52:09
Speaker 1: a winnable game against the teams that are quote unquote
• 52:11
Speaker 1: better than the Patriots. Was that one because I just
• 52:15
Speaker 1: I look at the way to A plays and the
• 52:17
Speaker 1: way he throws, and I think New Year's Day in Foxborough,
• 52:20
Speaker 1: he's going to be throwing the ball all over the yard.
• 52:23
  Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know. And that defense stinks.
• 52:26
Speaker 1: Miami's defense is really really decimate. Yeah, I think, you know,
• 52:30
Speaker 1: other than the Raiders, if there's one game left of
• 52:33
Speaker 1: the three, I think that's the most winnable. I think
• 52:38
Speaker 1: it will be that Miami game. Yep. Do you think
• 52:41
Speaker 1: the Patriots will flip the script in any of these
• 52:43
Speaker 1: last four games? Like, well, we see something, because I
• 52:46
Speaker 1: think every game we've seen this season can be put
• 52:48
Speaker 1: into one of two boxes. You know, they played a
• 52:50
Speaker 1: good offense, you know, a good team that that they
• 52:52
Speaker 1: couldn't quite handle, or they played an underman team that
• 52:54
Speaker 1: they that they handled fairly easily. Do you think that
• 52:57
Speaker 1: they can change it, that they can flip the script
• 53:00
Speaker 1: in these last four games? So you know, the words
• 53:02
Speaker 1: just saying can they win in a different way. I'm
• 53:05
Speaker 1: not going to predict that. I'm not saying they can't
• 53:07
Speaker 1: win these games. Like I think the Raiders are established
• 53:10
Speaker 1: a pattern that they get a lead and they can't
• 53:12
Speaker 1: hold it because they can't play sixty minutes of offense.
• 53:15
Speaker 1: I could see that happening and them right where we
• 53:17
Speaker 1: want them. I could see that happening Sunday. Yeah. Right now. Though,
• 53:21
Speaker 1: in addition to the offense just not being good this year,
• 53:25
Speaker 1: now they're dealing with injuries. So you tell me that
• 53:28
Speaker 1: Parker is going to be okay and Myers is gonna
• 53:30
Speaker 1: be okay, and you know, believe it or not, wins
• 53:33
Speaker 1: gonna come back and he's gonna be okay, Then I say, okay,
• 53:37
Speaker 1: there's a shot to do what you're talking about, dudes.
• 53:39
Speaker 1: But otherwise you're talking about that abnormal offense to just
• 53:43
Speaker 1: make up for deficiencies, you know, yeah, yeah, I think
• 53:47
Speaker 1: they're they're gonna need to continue to win games the
• 53:50
Speaker 1: way they want it. Last night, I think I'm just
• 53:53
  Speaker 1: I know, I've I've I've giving up hoping for otherwise.
• 53:57
Speaker 1: But I just think I'm just getting bored with this.
• 53:59
Speaker 1: I'm getting board with the same kind of thing. And
• 54:01
Speaker 1: I think, you know, that was like where Murray, I
• 54:03
Speaker 1: think we're all at the point right now, like you know,
• 54:05
Speaker 1: maybe at some point as a Patriots fan, you see
• 54:07
Speaker 1: the starting quarterback go down on the third player and
• 54:09
Speaker 1: you're like, yes, thank god, Like I just I want
• 54:12
Speaker 1: to watch good challenges. I want to watch good quarterbacks.
• 54:14
Speaker 1: I want to see this team, you know, be challenged
• 54:16
Speaker 1: and not just tee off on a thirteen year vet.
• 54:20
Speaker 1: Well it's almost like, you know, back in the day
• 54:23
Speaker 1: when boxing was good, like every once in a while
• 54:25
Speaker 1: you'd get that really talented boxer who would go up
• 54:28
Speaker 1: against an unorthodox boxer and he would fits in the
• 54:32
Speaker 1: ring until he figured him out. Yeah, it's like why
• 54:35
Speaker 1: Rocky went box right handed against Club or the second
• 54:38
Speaker 1: time right right right, I'm talking about real. I was
• 54:41
Speaker 1: going like Ken Norton with the crab, like style that
• 54:44
Speaker 1: used to bother people. But I gotta connect things to
• 54:46
Speaker 1: the movies, you guys, you know me. Interesting little observation
• 54:50
Speaker 1: here email from Sulman. I don't know if you caught this, fred, Um,
• 54:54
Speaker 1: but he said during the postgame he observed Vance Joseph
• 54:57
Speaker 1: was shaking Patricia's hands and had a lengthy chat with him.
• 55:00
Speaker 1: It almost seemed like he was trying to tell Patricia
• 55:01
Speaker 1: that what he said last week about his conservative play
• 55:03
Speaker 1: calling was not a dig at him, um, just something
• 55:06
Speaker 1: to come. I did you guys see that at all?
• 55:07
  Speaker 1: I didn't make a kid, but I'll bet you that's
• 55:09
Speaker 1: exactly what he was saying. Yeah, I'll bet it was too.
• 55:12
Speaker 1: But you know, we generally shut the game off and
• 55:15
Speaker 1: start the postgame show, so I didn't get to see
• 55:17
Speaker 1: um that that exchange take place. But I agree, Fred,
• 55:21
Speaker 1: I think that is a more than reasonable assumption, especially
• 55:25
Speaker 1: funny because he did exactly what he said. He did
• 55:26
Speaker 1: like everything, and I almost said it had little to
• 55:29
Speaker 1: no success doing it, like I like, like I didn't
• 55:31
Speaker 1: mean anything by it, but like that's kind of what
• 55:33
Speaker 1: I was expecting, you know what I mean? Right? Whoops?
• 55:38
Speaker 1: All right? Andrew got one from Andrew in la Hey,
• 55:40
Speaker 1: Pp Doocey and webcam Fred. Do you think Josh has
• 55:44
Speaker 1: a top secret play package touched on this a little
• 55:46
Speaker 1: bit ready for the pat since they decided he could
• 55:48
Speaker 1: easily be replaced by pencil an earpencil dc uh Bill
• 55:52
Speaker 1: who decided calling offense offensive plays was going to be
• 55:55
Speaker 1: easy for defensive genius. I think that's some added motivation
• 55:59
Speaker 1: to show off the new lances of offensive play calling.
• 56:01
  Speaker 1: That's your that's your theory. Yeah, well, I mean I
• 56:03
Speaker 1: don't see it so much as like a I don't know.
• 56:06
  Speaker 1: I don't really I don't really get a vibe of
• 56:07
Speaker 1: Josh being wronged. I don't think that he's like coming
• 56:11
Speaker 1: back to I mean maybe in oh nine. I mean,
• 56:13
Speaker 1: these guys are competitive. Of course he wants to beat
• 56:16
Speaker 1: beat Bill Belichick. But I don't really spend side a
• 56:18
Speaker 1: lot of bad blood. Really. Oh, I'm not necessarily saying
• 56:21
  Speaker 1: bad blood. But I do think there's a chance, I
• 56:23
Speaker 1: know we made light of it ten minutes ago. I
• 56:25
Speaker 1: do think there's a chance he looks at it and says,
• 56:27
Speaker 1: that's what he thinks of what I did for him
• 56:29
Speaker 1: is that I don't really need a replacement. You could
• 56:32
Speaker 1: just take a defensive coach and put him in there
• 56:34
Speaker 1: because play calling doesn't really matter. I think that he
• 56:38
  Speaker 1: could think like that. I don't know. I don't I
• 56:40
  Speaker 1: haven't talked to him. I don't know that he's thinking
• 56:42
Speaker 1: like that, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was. Well,
• 56:44
Speaker 1: I know, once the game is on, it's kind of on.
• 56:47
Speaker 1: I mean it's not you know, your feelings are kind
• 56:49
Speaker 1: of out the window. You want to win, and you
• 56:50
Speaker 1: know that's stuff. Anything you need for motivation is probably
• 56:53
Speaker 1: on the table. I also think that they like, you know,
• 56:56
Speaker 1: not that it was his offense, it's Ron Earhart's you know,
• 56:58
Speaker 1: original principles, but they also got away from the offense
• 57:02
Speaker 1: when he left, Like what you were doing was no good? Yeah,
• 57:05
Speaker 1: Like I could see him taking that as a slight wow. Yeah,
• 57:09
Speaker 1: I don't or you know, the coaching fraternity is tight.
• 57:13
Speaker 1: So like if they did, in fact try to get
• 57:16
Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien and he couldn't because you know, Saban didn't
• 57:19
Speaker 1: want to let him go this year, Josh would know that.
• 57:23
Speaker 1: Josh would know that well they tried to get Bill
• 57:25
Speaker 1: O'Brien could point to point and like he had no
• 57:29
Speaker 1: real alternative to turn to. Yeah, yeah, that's a good point. Yeah.
• 57:35
Speaker 1: You guys were talking in the pregame show about you know,
• 57:40
Speaker 1: Bill's unwillingness to bring in a name from the outside
• 57:45
Speaker 1: that hasn't been connected to him in the past, and
• 57:48
Speaker 1: it's so true. It worries me a little bit because
• 57:50
Speaker 1: I just worried if if all the eggs are in
• 57:52
Speaker 1: the O'Brien basket, and then what happens if he's not
• 57:55
Speaker 1: available or not interested. Yeah, I mean a few times
• 57:59
Speaker 1: they did it was on defense, right, they brought in
• 58:02
Speaker 1: Dean P's and they brought caper Dom Capers in once
• 58:05
Speaker 1: kind of a backup in case Bill got The Capers
• 58:08
Speaker 1: thing was a little bit different. Yeah, but what was
• 58:11
Speaker 1: Billy oh before he came to an offensive assistant. When
• 58:14
Speaker 1: he came offensive assistant, Yeah, well but he wasn't attached
• 58:17
Speaker 1: to the team, that's that's no. But but he didn't
• 58:19
Speaker 1: come in as offensive coordinator. Oh, he can't like that.
• 58:24
Speaker 1: Like they've done that other time. They've brought guys into
• 58:26
Speaker 1: the system as low level assistance, and that's what they
• 58:30
Speaker 1: did with Bill O'Brien, despite the fact that he had
• 58:32
Speaker 1: immense experience when he got here. He started it almost
• 58:35
Speaker 1: ground zero. Yeah. I also just wonder if, if you know,
• 58:38
Speaker 1: this whole thing of changing the offense, changing the terminology,
• 58:41
Speaker 1: I mean, does it necessarily restrict you to having to
• 58:44
Speaker 1: go with guys that you've worked with in the past, Like,
• 58:47
Speaker 1: is it as much is it as valuable now to say,
• 58:49
Speaker 1: go to Bill O'Brien or Chattosha or guys that had
• 58:52
Speaker 1: experience in that system. Is it even the same system?
• 58:54
Speaker 1: Is it even the same terminology? And if so, like
• 58:57
Speaker 1: the why why even bothers stick him with those guys
• 58:59
Speaker 1: other I mean, of course there's he knows them, and
• 59:01
Speaker 1: it's people that he trusts. But I mean, I said
• 59:04
Speaker 1: last night, it's just it'd be fun to merge something new,
• 59:08
Speaker 1: a new dynamic, a new guy who has his own
• 59:10
Speaker 1: way of doing things, to bring him in and then
• 59:12
Speaker 1: you know, to allow Bill to you know, work with
• 59:14
Speaker 1: him and to construct the offense. I don't know. I
• 59:17
Speaker 1: just I think that the brain drain overall between Ernie leaving,
• 59:21
Speaker 1: Nick Casserio leaving and you think about what those guys
• 59:23
Speaker 1: did on game day to now you know, you basically
• 59:26
Speaker 1: have Matt Patricia doing Dante's job, Josh's job, Ernie's job
• 59:31
Speaker 1: and Cassario's job, it's you know, in some ways as
• 59:34
Speaker 1: as the senior football advisor, I just think they need reinforcements.
• 59:38
Speaker 1: They need to restock some of the shelves with some
• 59:39
Speaker 1: young coaches with some new perspectives. Especially. That's what I
• 59:42
Speaker 1: want to see, Freddie is like a you know, one
• 59:45
Speaker 1: of these young wonder kinds, like you know, like why
• 59:47
Speaker 1: can't we get one of those? Like we have Marcus
• 59:50
Speaker 1: Jones who's doing all these electric things. Why can't we
• 59:52
Speaker 1: get a young coach that's doing all these electric things too?
• 59:55
Speaker 1: Just real quick, I'm looking up Dean P's here. He
• 59:57
Speaker 1: came in and Old four as the linebackers O four
• 59:59
Speaker 1: and Old five he was the linebackers coach, so even
• 1:00:01
Speaker 1: he and that, you know, he he came in as
• 1:00:04
Speaker 1: a positional coach and then god when when Mangini left,
• 1:00:09
Speaker 1: became the defensive coordinator. Um and he also had time
• 1:00:13
Speaker 1: at Michigan State in the late nineties which probably tied
• 1:00:16
Speaker 1: him to saving Yeah. Yeah, so he kind of wasn't
• 1:00:20
Speaker 1: always something there's always some connection. Yeah, it's been uh,
• 1:00:24
Speaker 1: it's been funny recently though, with you know, guys like
• 1:00:26
Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni, you know, who's doing really well and has
• 1:00:29
Speaker 1: his team playing really well, and you know he's get this, like, well,
• 1:00:31
Speaker 1: who would you want, Like, I don't know, there's other
• 1:00:33
Speaker 1: coaches out there that that pop up that win, you know,
• 1:00:35
Speaker 1: Like I'm not saying that they're the greatest of all time,
• 1:00:37
Speaker 1: but you know, at certain point, you just have to
• 1:00:39
Speaker 1: take a chance on a guy that you believe in,
• 1:00:41
Speaker 1: and sometimes success happens. You know, Paul, you mentioned, you know,
• 1:00:45
Speaker 1: bringing in the wonder kid from somewhere else, and I just,
• 1:00:49
  Speaker 1: you know, like I don't know what's the Bill's head,
• 1:00:52
Speaker 1: but I just get the feeling that he realizes that
• 1:00:54
Speaker 1: if I bring in somebody like that, there's no point
• 1:00:57
Speaker 1: of doing it unless I'm just gonna hand him the
• 1:00:59
Speaker 1: offense and let him do his thing. And I don't
• 1:01:02
Speaker 1: think Bill's willing to do that. Yeah, I know, I
• 1:01:04
Speaker 1: wish he were. I know, I think at the end
• 1:01:06
Speaker 1: of the day, like Bill, I think he's open to ideas.
• 1:01:09
Speaker 1: I think he loves the discussion of football and the
• 1:01:13
Speaker 1: straight I think he loves that. But the end of
• 1:01:14
Speaker 1: the day, it's his team, and you know, we're gonna
• 1:01:19
Speaker 1: you know, I'm gonna have to approve everything, and with
• 1:01:22
Speaker 1: somebody like that, he's gonna have to give it up,
• 1:01:25
Speaker 1: and I don't think he wants to do that. All right, Well,
• 1:01:28

• 1:14:39
Speaker 1: it's his birthday today. What's that birth birthday today? It's yeah,
• 1:14:46
Speaker 1: But unlike you he he blew off his show. Yeah,
• 1:14:49
Speaker 1: you're you're here for the show. He's not coming in.
• 1:14:51
Speaker 1: I thought don bottom a cake. Yeah, I think he

Speaker 1: went to sleep on eighty. I just saw an add
• 1:15:14
Speaker 1: on it there he's he's still he's still hawking that product.
• 1:15:16
  Speaker 1: So I don't know, yeah, I because he's on there.
• 1:15:19
Speaker 1: Um So Freddie, did you guys travel back with the
• 1:15:22
Speaker 1: Patriots contingent or Oh, here's what happened is um? So
• 1:15:27
Speaker 1: obviously we all go to the stadium together, but on
• 1:15:29
Speaker 1: the way home, instead of six buses, they had eight buses.
• 1:15:35
Speaker 1: Seven of the buses went to Tucson UM and they
• 1:15:39
Speaker 1: had the extra buses so that they could spread out
• 1:15:41
Speaker 1: because it was a two hour drive from blood Dale
• 1:15:45
Speaker 1: to Tucson. On. So they had seven buses went to
• 1:15:48
Speaker 1: uh Tucson, and then the eighth bus went to the airport.
• 1:15:52
Speaker 1: That's the one I was on. The marketing people, A
• 1:15:56
Speaker 1: couple of doctors went back, and uh the nine eight
• 1:16:00
Speaker 1: point five people went back except for Capella Nice. So
• 1:16:05
Speaker 1: you guys did all travel back with the Patriots to
• 1:16:08
Speaker 1: get like one of the Patriots plants or like on
• 1:16:11
Speaker 1: agular the Patriots plane coming back. Yeah, yeah, okay, that's
• 1:16:15
Speaker 1: that's what I meant. Yeah, the life of luxury. Uh.
• 1:16:19
Speaker 1: Kicking us off here in the second hour, Spi and
• 1:16:22
Speaker 1: Fresno writing in, who is having a good time last night?
• 1:16:25
Speaker 1: I think, based on the Speed was funny last night
• 1:16:28
Speaker 1: he's done his call. He just kept walking down the
• 1:16:30
Speaker 1: question and then he kept apologizing with then trying to
• 1:16:33
Speaker 1: get it out. But speedwrites in and something. I've been
• 1:16:36
Speaker 1: wondering what's more likely next the next year that Bill
• 1:16:40
Speaker 1: runs it back with coach map Patricia slash pencil, beer
• 1:16:43
Speaker 1: dis heat refers to him here, or Craft finds a
• 1:16:46
Speaker 1: new head coach. I think it's the former, and I'm
• 1:16:47
Speaker 1: concerned there's a greater than fifty percent chance of it happening. Um.
• 1:16:53
Speaker 1: I don't think Bill could have probably predicted it would
• 1:16:55
Speaker 1: have been this bad. But I feel like he was
• 1:16:57
Speaker 1: ready to take the slings and arrows to give some
• 1:17:01
Speaker 1: development to Patricia. And I can see where speis coming
• 1:17:04
Speaker 1: from that he's going to use this to anything. We
• 1:17:06
Speaker 1: said let him focus on maybe just the offense and
• 1:17:09
Speaker 1: take some other things off his plate um. But I
• 1:17:12
  Speaker 1: don't I don't think speis alone in being a little
• 1:17:14
Speaker 1: worried that that that we're going to try to return
• 1:17:16
Speaker 1: with this kind of same offensive plan. So he's saying,
• 1:17:21
Speaker 1: what is more likely he runs it back as the
• 1:17:23
Speaker 1: same or what or the Crafts find a new head coach.
• 1:17:26
Speaker 1: He runs it back the same. Yeah, so that's my opinion.
• 1:17:30
Speaker 1: What do you think, Freddie, we've lost Freddie Uncle Freddy?
• 1:17:37
Speaker 1: We don't have Uncle Freddy. What I'm sorry, it's not
• 1:17:40
Speaker 1: an email. So what is more likely? Bill runs it
• 1:17:45
Speaker 1: back with the same cast of characters with Patricia as
• 1:17:49
Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator, or Craft steps in and relieves him
• 1:17:55
Speaker 1: of head coaching duties. Oh geez, that's neither or huh.
• 1:17:59
Speaker 1: What's more like? More likely of those two is more
• 1:18:03
Speaker 1: of the same. Yeah, he runs it back. That's what
• 1:18:05
Speaker 1: That's what I picked two is that. But we're gonna
• 1:18:09
Speaker 1: rate what I said two weeks ago on our show
• 1:18:12
Speaker 1: there will be an offensive shake up in the offseason. Yeah,
• 1:18:17
Speaker 1: that wasn't one of the ob no, I know, but
• 1:18:20
Speaker 1: I just want to clarify that that's what I really
• 1:18:23
Speaker 1: think is gonna So I want to you brought up
• 1:18:26
Speaker 1: before the break, Freddie. You know our conversation last night
• 1:18:29
Speaker 1: about you know, a young innovative mind or whatever, blah
• 1:18:32
Speaker 1: blah blah. The reason that came up is, you know,
• 1:18:35
Speaker 1: I was I was asking about Bill O'Brien and what
• 1:18:40
Speaker 1: happens if they're not able to make him the offensive
• 1:18:43
Speaker 1: coordinator next year? Right? What do you feel will happen? Then?
• 1:18:46
Speaker 1: Do you still feel there'll be a shake up offensively?
• 1:18:49
  Speaker 1: I do. I don't. I just don't see an option. Yeah, no,
• 1:18:54
Speaker 1: I And you know, I don't necessarily think it will
• 1:18:58
Speaker 1: be because Robert kraw telling him to do it. Um.
• 1:19:02
Speaker 1: But I think that I just think that he's not
• 1:19:08
Speaker 1: blind to it. You know, like we've talked about it before.
• 1:19:11
Speaker 1: Bill knows more about He's forgotten more about football than
• 1:19:15
Speaker 1: we'll ever know, and he sees what's going on. He
• 1:19:19
Speaker 1: sees the limitations of this offense, UM, and he knows
• 1:19:25
Speaker 1: you know that he Patricia's in a bad spot. There's
• 1:19:31
Speaker 1: gonna have to be changes. It's not acceptable. It's not acceptable,
• 1:19:36
Speaker 1: And I'm sure the first person it's not acceptable is him.
• 1:19:41
Speaker 1: Do you think that he feels like it's not acceptable
• 1:19:43
Speaker 1: because of the coaching or because of the players. Uh?
• 1:19:49
Speaker 1: I think both. I think both. I think you know,
• 1:19:53
Speaker 1: the coach is picking the players. No, I mean I
• 1:19:55
Speaker 1: meant like, it's unacceptable because of what they're doing, structure
• 1:20:00
Speaker 1: of what they're doing, the play calling, the path, you know,
• 1:20:02
Speaker 1: the game plant whatever. I think if he thought that,
• 1:20:05
Speaker 1: I think if he thought that, he would change it. Well,
• 1:20:08
Speaker 1: think about what's fair. Let's just say that you think
• 1:20:10
Speaker 1: it's the player. Let's think is it fair then to
• 1:20:13
Speaker 1: put a guy who's never coached offense in there if
• 1:20:15
Speaker 1: you think that you're lacking talent, and then if you
• 1:20:20
Speaker 1: don't think no, But if he thinks like that and
• 1:20:23
Speaker 1: he doesn't think it's fair, And here's the thing, Paul,
• 1:20:25
Speaker 1: And if you don't think that you're lacking talent, then
• 1:20:29
Speaker 1: you have to say it's the coaching. So you're you're
• 1:20:32
Speaker 1: in a pickle here. Yeah, but the first but the
• 1:20:34
Speaker 1: first one is the reason why you would stay status quo. Like, No,
• 1:20:40
Speaker 1: I put him in an unfair situation. He didn't have
• 1:20:42
Speaker 1: the horses, and he's learning with guys that aren't ready
• 1:20:45
Speaker 1: to do it yet. So I got to give him
• 1:20:47
Speaker 1: more time. Yeah, that's my that's my fear. Yeah, and
• 1:20:52
Speaker 1: you're assuming he's gonna get him the horses. No, I
• 1:20:55
Speaker 1: think he might be assuming it'll be better now that
• 1:20:57
Speaker 1: he has year two under his belt with these guys.
• 1:21:01
Speaker 1: That's what I worry about. Yeah, I think the question
• 1:21:04
Speaker 1: I keep kind of coming back to recently is what,
• 1:21:07
Speaker 1: you know, what is the craft's tolerance level for five
• 1:21:10
Speaker 1: hundred football teams? You know? And I think that there
• 1:21:13
Speaker 1: is value that Bill Belichick brings to this organization. I
• 1:21:17
Speaker 1: don't want to say independent of how the team does
• 1:21:18
Speaker 1: on the field, but certainly his resume, his championships, his experience,
• 1:21:23
Speaker 1: the way he's respected around the league, like, you know,
• 1:21:25
Speaker 1: those things give New England a you know, a characteristic
• 1:21:30
Speaker 1: that they can promote. And I you know, trying to
• 1:21:32
Speaker 1: look at the team like, not as a fan, not
• 1:21:33
  Speaker 1: as a coach, but as an owner. It's it's it's
• 1:21:35
Speaker 1: a difficult kind of pair of glasses to put on
• 1:21:37
Speaker 1: and figure out, you know, how do you balance out? Yeah,
• 1:21:40
Speaker 1: we might be a five hundred team for the next
• 1:21:43
Speaker 1: few years, but there's also value in having Bill here?
• 1:21:45
Speaker 1: Is that more value? Is that enough value for the
• 1:21:48
Speaker 1: owners than if you were to say, blow it up,
• 1:21:51
Speaker 1: go try to find some new players slash coaches to
• 1:21:54
Speaker 1: get people excited about because I just I don't think
• 1:21:57
Speaker 1: anybody really looks at this team ever from like a
• 1:22:00
  Speaker 1: an owner's perspective. Usually you're a fan, you're a coach,
• 1:22:03
Speaker 1: but an owner's got a unique kind of thing to
• 1:22:06
Speaker 1: a unique line to walk between, you know, maintaining the
• 1:22:09
Speaker 1: interest in the team, but also you know, having a
• 1:22:11
Speaker 1: product you can sell and having a product that your
• 1:22:13
Speaker 1: fans are excited about and you know you're going to
• 1:22:15
Speaker 1: get people in the stadium to watch. That's that's why
• 1:22:17
Speaker 1: I am is how how willing are they to put
• 1:22:19
Speaker 1: up with this? Because right now it seems like they
• 1:22:22
Speaker 1: can bang out five hundred seasons, like you know, kind
• 1:22:24
Speaker 1: of no matter what they have, Like they'll beat the
• 1:22:26
Speaker 1: bad teams, they'll probably lose the good teams. But I
• 1:22:28
Speaker 1: think as long as Bill stays here, they'll probably be
• 1:22:29
Speaker 1: in this seven, eight, nine, ten win range no matter what,
• 1:22:32
Speaker 1: unless they hit on stars and then that kind of
• 1:22:34
Speaker 1: change the right And what I like, I said, what
• 1:22:37
Speaker 1: I would be concerned about is, and I know, Fred,
• 1:22:41
Speaker 1: you and I have invented the phrase, don't listen to
• 1:22:45
Speaker 1: what Bill says, watch what he does. We haven't seen
• 1:22:49
Speaker 1: what he's going to do yet, so we can't watch
• 1:22:51
Speaker 1: what he's doing. But listening to what he's saying, it
• 1:22:55
Speaker 1: seems like he's making a lot of excuses for the offense.
• 1:23:00
Speaker 1: I think that the one consistent theme after a lot
• 1:23:03
  Speaker 1: of these games is he's telling you what's it's it's
• 1:23:05
Speaker 1: better than you thought it was. He doesn't say those words,
• 1:23:09
Speaker 1: but even last night at halftime, he told Lisa Salters,
• 1:23:11
Speaker 1: you know, we're you know, we've done a lot of
• 1:23:13
Speaker 1: good things here. We just have to, you know, clean
• 1:23:15
Speaker 1: up some of the mistakes. We're close. I don't think
• 1:23:17
Speaker 1: they were close last night to a good offensive night,
• 1:23:20
Speaker 1: not as Fred said, not with that approach. And you know,
• 1:23:25
Speaker 1: he continues to talk about the turnovers, and you know,
• 1:23:29
Speaker 1: when we throw it down, feel like I think he's
• 1:23:32
Speaker 1: making excuse. Now, maybe he's just trying to do his
• 1:23:34
Speaker 1: friend to solid It could be as simple as that.
• 1:23:36
Speaker 1: We'll see what he does when the time comes. But
• 1:23:39
Speaker 1: I think he has gone out of his way three
• 1:23:41
Speaker 1: or four times over the last couple of weeks to
• 1:23:43
Speaker 1: say we needed to stop turning the ball over. That's
• 1:23:47
Speaker 1: why we've changed the way we call plays. It's not
• 1:23:49
Speaker 1: about the plays we do. Stop turning it over. Yeah, Well,
• 1:23:53
Speaker 1: I go back to a couple of weeks ago, and
• 1:23:56
Speaker 1: it was that rare moment where he might have been
• 1:23:59
Speaker 1: saying what he really thought when he said, you know,
• 1:24:02
Speaker 1: making wholesale changes in the middle of season isn't really
• 1:24:05
Speaker 1: gonna help, is gonna Why say that if you don't
• 1:24:08
Speaker 1: think that any changes are necessary at all? You know so?
• 1:24:13
Speaker 1: And then he kind of walked that back the next week.
• 1:24:16
Speaker 1: But again, he's not blind, you know, he sees what
• 1:24:22
Speaker 1: we see. Ye, so I can't imagine nothing will happen
• 1:24:27
Speaker 1: in the off season. Let's jump over to the phones
• 1:24:30
Speaker 1: that were shot in Baltimore. Hey, we shot. What's going on?
• 1:24:33
  Speaker 1: What's up? What's up? I guess I got I got
• 1:24:37
  Speaker 1: a few things like the gang. I mean, I'm I'm
• 1:24:40
Speaker 1: happy we won last night. But the offense is just brutal,
• 1:24:45
Speaker 1: like screens draws, just throw to the flats. Like I'm like,
• 1:24:51
Speaker 1: can we can we come up with any type of
• 1:24:54
Speaker 1: like more more like advanced concept on of offense like Mac.
• 1:25:01
Speaker 1: I definitely feel like MAC isn't getting a sad chance,
• 1:25:04
Speaker 1: and I think it should. I think it should be
• 1:25:07
Speaker 1: a complete like you, like you said, for a complete
• 1:25:10
Speaker 1: overhaul of the offense. I mean, I think we should
• 1:25:13
Speaker 1: only bring back Parker and thought the old line needs
• 1:25:17
Speaker 1: every like besides Andrew's and or when you everybody needs
• 1:25:21
Speaker 1: to be and strange, but everybody needs to be evaluated
• 1:25:24
Speaker 1: and even strange. We can bring a vetteran Than to
• 1:25:26
Speaker 1: compete with him running back. I guess we're good because
• 1:25:31
Speaker 1: we just drafted them, but I feel like everybody can
• 1:25:34
Speaker 1: be challenged, Like the whole offense needs to be overhauled.
• 1:25:38
Speaker 1: The coaching too, because we need we need a talent,
• 1:25:41
Speaker 1: but we need to we need the coaching to push
• 1:25:43
Speaker 1: the talent. But I feel like we don't. We don't
• 1:25:46
Speaker 1: have neither one. Like the players we have, they're okay,
• 1:25:49
Speaker 1: they're good, but we need we need a stud we
• 1:25:53
Speaker 1: need we need we just need a superstar. That's all. Yeah, yeah, superstar,
• 1:26:00
Speaker 1: that's all. But I hear what he's saying. You know,
• 1:26:04
Speaker 1: you look around the league and everybody's doing it. I
• 1:26:07
Speaker 1: hear the same people, you know talk about that number
• 1:26:10
Speaker 1: one receiver, you know, the true number one guy that
• 1:26:13
Speaker 1: you have to game plan for that makes everybody better.
• 1:26:17
Speaker 1: All the good teams got it, all the all the
• 1:26:20
Speaker 1: contending teams have it. You know, I would agree quarterback,
• 1:26:25
Speaker 1: but yeah, I just feel like that even if we
• 1:26:28
Speaker 1: had like a good beast tight end or a beast
• 1:26:32
Speaker 1: running back, like just somebody that they have the game
• 1:26:35
Speaker 1: planning around. Like you don't even have to be a
• 1:26:37
Speaker 1: wide receiver. It could be like Kansas City has Travis Kelsey. Yeah,
• 1:26:43
Speaker 1: Kansas City's beast is is a tight end. It's it's Kelsey.
• 1:26:47
Speaker 1: It's not a it's not one of the receivers and
• 1:26:49
Speaker 1: their quarterback. You know, I know that. But like a
• 1:26:51
Speaker 1: lot of these teams have good quarterbacks, but all the
• 1:26:54
Speaker 1: best teams have the quarterback with a stud that needs
• 1:26:57
Speaker 1: to be game planning for. Like Fred just said, Yeah,
• 1:26:59
Speaker 1: I was just to highlight there are a handful of
• 1:27:01
Speaker 1: teams where the quarterback is that guy and you can
• 1:27:04
Speaker 1: get rid of Tyreek Hill and still you know, it
• 1:27:06
Speaker 1: does have Travis Kelsey. But you know, just to not
• 1:27:09
Speaker 1: all quarterbacks that like that. But I think you certainly
• 1:27:11
Speaker 1: have an advantaionment that one. All right, thanks for sharing,
• 1:27:17
Speaker 1: Oh go ahead, yeah, now I agree with them. I
• 1:27:20
Speaker 1: agree with Rashard. I do think in a name, I'm
• 1:27:24
Speaker 1: starting to you know, Evan and I were talking about
• 1:27:26
Speaker 1: te Higgins a little bit last week, and you know,
• 1:27:29
Speaker 1: I just kind of looking ahead and seeing what happened
• 1:27:32
Speaker 1: last offseason, a lot of those wide receivers on the
• 1:27:35
Speaker 1: rookie contracts with a year to go started asking for money.
• 1:27:40
Speaker 1: And that's where te Higgins will be in the off season.
• 1:27:44
Speaker 1: He'll have a year left on his rookie deal. The
• 1:27:47
Speaker 1: Bengals are notoriously cheap, YEA. With Mike Brown, I think
• 1:27:52
Speaker 1: that they'll probably have an eye toward Joe Burrow and
• 1:27:57
Speaker 1: down the road Jamar Chase, and maybe they can't retain
• 1:28:01
Speaker 1: t Higgins and Tyler Boyd and pay Burrow and Chase.
• 1:28:07
Speaker 1: So maybe he kicks and screams. Maybe he's happy to
• 1:28:10
Speaker 1: be there, Maybe he wants to be part of that
• 1:28:12
Speaker 1: next year, you know, and play out his rookie deal
• 1:28:14
Speaker 1: and then cash in. But maybe he does the Terry
• 1:28:17
Speaker 1: McLaurin or the Deebo Samuel or the A. J. Brown
• 1:28:20
  Speaker 1: and says, I need, I need mine, I need I
• 1:28:22
Speaker 1: need to get a contract now. And if you're not
• 1:28:24
Speaker 1: going to give it to me, then then trade me.
• 1:28:27
Speaker 1: How would you do that? I'll take if you were
• 1:28:28
Speaker 1: the Bengals, like, how would you do it with with
• 1:28:30
Speaker 1: the guys that they have? And you know, I mean clearly,
• 1:28:32
Speaker 1: how would I do it. Yeah. If I was in
• 1:28:34
Speaker 1: charge of the Bengals, I would pay that that nucleus.
• 1:28:37
  Speaker 1: I think that's the team. Which what's what's nucleus? You
• 1:28:39
Speaker 1: mean just Burrow, Chase Borrow, Chase Higgins, Boyd. I think
• 1:28:42
Speaker 1: that's the team and then just roll it over wherever
• 1:28:45
Speaker 1: else you have to. Yeah, I mean I think you
• 1:28:48
Speaker 1: you try to maintain like the pieces on defense because
• 1:28:51
Speaker 1: I think they have an underrated defense. I think Hendrickson
• 1:28:54
Speaker 1: and Hubbard are pretty good upfront. Um. I think Bates
• 1:28:57
Speaker 1: is a is a solid seay. I think that he
• 1:28:59
Speaker 1: franchise was a franchise might be out. I would you know,
• 1:29:02
Speaker 1: let you know my feelings on this. It's money. Do
• 1:29:06
Speaker 1: you have the money? Everybody has the money if you
• 1:29:09
Speaker 1: were an owner in that league, it's whether or not
• 1:29:11
Speaker 1: you want to spend it. Yeah, and you can always
• 1:29:13
Speaker 1: figure out a way to make it work on the cap.
• 1:29:15
Speaker 1: I'd love to see how what's Joe Burrow, But they'll
• 1:29:17
Speaker 1: they'll hide behind the cap because they don't want to
• 1:29:20
Speaker 1: spend the money. And that's and Fred will tell you
• 1:29:22
  Speaker 1: that's Mike Brown's mo. He doesn't spend money. I wonder
• 1:29:26
Speaker 1: what the mo is this for? The Patriots, you know,
• 1:29:29
Speaker 1: after the twenty twenty one offseason, and you know, I
• 1:29:32
Speaker 1: think just some of the lessons, I don't think anyone
• 1:29:33
Speaker 1: expected them all to be slam dunks. But I just
• 1:29:35
Speaker 1: also think it's still very much a cautionary tale of
• 1:29:38
Speaker 1: how many things you might have to throw at the
• 1:29:40
Speaker 1: wall to find a Matthew jude On. You know, you're
• 1:29:44
Speaker 1: not getting probably the production you want out of just
• 1:29:45
Speaker 1: about anybody else from that class. You know. Yeah, let's
• 1:29:49
Speaker 1: head down to Florida and say hello to Eddie. Hey, Eddy,
• 1:29:52
Speaker 1: what's going on? Hey guys, what's going on? He all?
• 1:29:57
Speaker 1: You remind me if somebody I grew up with man
• 1:29:59
Speaker 1: with your one line miners on the postgame show, somebody
• 1:30:02
Speaker 1: that Niagara falls and you come up with nis. I
• 1:30:06
Speaker 1: got the Stoges bredference right away. Yeah that was hardy.
• 1:30:12
Speaker 1: Yeah no, he laughed, party laughed. Oh yeah, I'm sure
• 1:30:17
Speaker 1: some people get it, but I get all of them.
• 1:30:19
Speaker 1: Fred once was talking about injuries. He said, yeah, Born
• 1:30:22
Speaker 1: has a toe. You said, yeah, he's at ten of them,
• 1:30:24
Speaker 1: and you start it under your breath and I just
• 1:30:26
Speaker 1: started cracking up. Yeah. Anyways, I just want I'm an
• 1:30:29
Speaker 1: acquired taste I'm not for everybody, I have to add,
• 1:30:31
Speaker 1: Oh no, it's freaking hilarious. I appreciate it. Um. There's
• 1:30:36
Speaker 1: two categories that I came up with, like, I'm fine
• 1:30:39
Speaker 1: with a lot of our talent, but one category is
• 1:30:43
Speaker 1: players that disappear, and another category is the invisible players.
• 1:30:47
Speaker 1: I put Jonas with the name John H. Smith under
• 1:30:49
Speaker 1: the invisible. I mean he's invisible, but under the category
• 1:30:54
Speaker 1: of disappear. You know, one game he's great, one game
• 1:30:57
Speaker 1: he's not. There's two guys come to mind, obviously, Ago
• 1:31:00
Speaker 1: and I think Petrich Wise falls under that, and I
• 1:31:02
Speaker 1: love THEE But who do you who else falls under
• 1:31:05
Speaker 1: those categories? Guys lately, I would say Judean, I think
• 1:31:09
Speaker 1: he reappeared. Um last night, Well, I was gonna say, Judean,
• 1:31:14
Speaker 1: you don't have trouble set in the edge. But yes,
• 1:31:17
Speaker 1: that's pretty consistent. Oh no, he's I mean, his sack
• 1:31:21
Speaker 1: totals are off the charts, but I think they come
• 1:31:24
Speaker 1: in bunches. And I think that early in the year
• 1:31:27
Speaker 1: it was like every game he was and then all
• 1:31:29
Speaker 1: of a sudden they hit the skids and lose two
• 1:31:31
Speaker 1: in a row, and you didn't really notice him at
• 1:31:33
Speaker 1: all in those two games, the two games that they lost,
• 1:31:36
Speaker 1: And I agree with you. I think he does have
• 1:31:38
Speaker 1: trouble setting the edge at times like that was a
• 1:31:41
Speaker 1: big run that Connor had off the goal line last night.
• 1:31:44
Speaker 1: He was good because a big guy. I wonder how
• 1:31:47
Speaker 1: much I shoulder. I know everybody, like you know, everyone
• 1:31:49
Speaker 1: kind of claps back at you and I with our
• 1:31:52
Speaker 1: concerns about run defense. And every time the other team
• 1:31:56
Speaker 1: runs the ball, well it's because they weren't concerned with
• 1:31:58
Speaker 1: the running game. That's great. But the other guy, I
• 1:32:02
Speaker 1: averaged just like six yards of carry last night. Yeah, like,
• 1:32:06
Speaker 1: I don't think that's great. Yep, dragging some guys. Thanks Ed,
• 1:32:11
Speaker 1: I appreciate it. Yeah, what I mean. And we talked
• 1:32:14
Speaker 1: about Josh Jacob's coming up. But mean we lose Uncle Freddie. No,
• 1:32:17
Speaker 1: I'm here, Okay, I'm just I'm taking it all in.
• 1:32:20
Speaker 1: He's reliving the pandemic shows and we all were at
• 1:32:23
Speaker 1: our your grotto. Megan was outside jealous. I don't really
• 1:32:29
Speaker 1: have a jurious backyard. I was on a deck. You
• 1:32:31
Speaker 1: just look like you were living your best life, sitting
• 1:32:33
Speaker 1: by the pool. You know. It's like I'm not sitting
• 1:32:35
Speaker 1: in the studio down here. Got some emails coming in
• 1:32:39
Speaker 1: here a keel from Brooklyn on the topic of bringing
• 1:32:42
Speaker 1: in an offensive an outside offensive coordinator who hadn't coached
• 1:32:45
Speaker 1: under Bill. Is there anyone in college football that Belichick
• 1:32:48
Speaker 1: holds in high regard like he did Sciano? I asked,
• 1:32:51
Speaker 1: because that was the three week period a few years
• 1:32:53
Speaker 1: ago where Sciano was going to be our DC before
• 1:32:55
Speaker 1: he resigned for personal reasons. I gave it a thought
• 1:32:58
Speaker 1: and couldn't really think of anyone. Maybe Tom Herman, that
• 1:33:00
Speaker 1: is Herman not they have a former Texas coach. Yeah,
• 1:33:05
Speaker 1: he said he heard him right, he heard Bill spoke
• 1:33:09
Speaker 1: at a coaching clinton that Herman put on when he
• 1:33:10
Speaker 1: was in Texas. I don't know. Bill kind of knows everybody,
• 1:33:13
Speaker 1: doesn't he I'm not a college football guy. Hard to Yeah,
• 1:33:15
Speaker 1: I'm not gonna identify a college guy, but I think
• 1:33:18
Speaker 1: that would be hard to imagine. I hear it. That's
• 1:33:24
Speaker 1: the big talk, let's go. It is funny though, because,
• 1:33:29
Speaker 1: like I mean, having watched more Holy Cross football this
• 1:33:32
Speaker 1: year than any other, probably non Patriots team, I watched him, Like,
• 1:33:35
Speaker 1: what is his offense? I don't know. He's just got
• 1:33:36
Speaker 1: a great He's got a great quarterback, and you know
• 1:33:39
Speaker 1: the kid just gonna tell you an absolute warrior. Like
• 1:33:41
Speaker 1: I don't really see like these kids can only win
• 1:33:43
Speaker 1: so many games with that offensive coordinator that looks like that,
• 1:33:46
Speaker 1: that just puts it all back. That offensive coordinate. It
• 1:33:48
Speaker 1: does not look like an offensive coordinator. Oh you mean
• 1:33:50
Speaker 1: the guy that it actually is the offensive he's a
• 1:33:52
Speaker 1: former offensive lineman from holy Cross. Not surprised, but he
• 1:33:55
Speaker 1: still dresses like he's an offensive I mean, like the
• 1:33:57
Speaker 1: big purple headband I think his name is Chris and
• 1:34:00
Speaker 1: the win of itch hair. Yeah, he's doing it. He's
• 1:34:02
Speaker 1: doing a good job. Good job. Quick congratulations to the Crusaders.
• 1:34:05
Speaker 1: They dropped the tough one there to South SOUTHDA Coasts.
• 1:34:07
Speaker 1: A good game. I watched a big chunk of that game.
• 1:34:09
Speaker 1: I was very The score is very deceptive. That game
• 1:34:12
Speaker 1: was much more competitively put everything they had into it,
• 1:34:15
Speaker 1: and uh just one of the one of the best
• 1:34:16
Speaker 1: seasons in holy Cross history. So told the coaches out
• 1:34:19
Speaker 1: there to hold their heads high. It was a really
• 1:34:21
Speaker 1: really great season. Bill Vista, California. I don't know what
• 1:34:24
Speaker 1: the draft looks like in terms of wide receivers, but
• 1:34:26
Speaker 1: what about trading a pick for Jerry Judy. I heard
• 1:34:28
Speaker 1: rumors of the Broncos shopping him around, and I don't
• 1:34:30
Speaker 1: see the Broncos being able to draft the decent QB either,
• 1:34:32
Speaker 1: So that's an Evan thing too. He kind of like Judy.
• 1:34:34
Speaker 1: Judy would be my secondary choice for T. Higgins is
• 1:34:37
Speaker 1: the one I have over that. Yeah, I just but
• 1:34:41
Speaker 1: are you're willing to pay draft capital for that? Like
• 1:34:44
Speaker 1: a J. Brown cost a first round pick? Are you
• 1:34:46
Speaker 1: willing to do that for a T. Higgs dry Judy?
• 1:34:48
Speaker 1: Probably I wouldn't have to do it for you. Probably
• 1:34:50
Speaker 1: wouldn't have to do a one for Judy for a J. Brown.
• 1:34:53
Speaker 1: I get it, you know, I get it. I mean,
• 1:34:54
Speaker 1: I just always liked T. Higgins. Will probably cost you
• 1:34:56
  Speaker 1: a one. I don't know, I horn because I always
• 1:35:00
Speaker 1: like to get our guys, you know, like just invested
• 1:35:02
Speaker 1: in the drop pick that you got on your turn,
• 1:35:05
Speaker 1: not like that thing. I can't rich you up, not
• 1:35:08
Speaker 1: like that. Like she was like, oh, but we do
• 1:35:12
Speaker 1: it the right way. No, No, it's more about we
• 1:35:14
Speaker 1: don't plage other teams. We just do it the right way.
• 1:35:17
  Speaker 1: I know, It's why I think though, it's more it's
• 1:35:18
Speaker 1: not so much about believing in this like philosophy that
• 1:35:21
Speaker 1: you know you can you can do it easily and
• 1:35:23
Speaker 1: perfectly all yourself. But it's just I think you, you know,
• 1:35:26
Speaker 1: have a certain level of attachment to the guys that
• 1:35:28
Speaker 1: you draft, and they're like your guys, like Marcus Jones
• 1:35:30
Speaker 1: is our guy. You know, I like that feeling, and
• 1:35:33
Speaker 1: I mean, I get it for guy. But did you
• 1:35:39
Speaker 1: like did you? And the answer to this could be yes,
• 1:35:43
Speaker 1: like did you like Edelman more than Welker? Because not
• 1:35:48
Speaker 1: I'm not asking if you liked Edelman more than Welker,
• 1:35:50
Speaker 1: because that's I mean, whatever you like. But did you
• 1:35:52
Speaker 1: like Edelman more than Welker because Edelman was drafted and
• 1:35:55
Speaker 1: Welker was traded? For putting me on the couch, and
• 1:35:57
Speaker 1: I gotta say, no, I gotta say I like them
• 1:35:59
Speaker 1: both the same. I mean, you know I have a favorite,
• 1:36:01
Speaker 1: asked me to choose, I have a favorite, but I like,
• 1:36:03
Speaker 1: you're putting me on the couch. No, And again, if like,
• 1:36:05
Speaker 1: if your answer is I like Edelman better, yeah, like
• 1:36:08
Speaker 1: that's that's your opinion. It's perfectly acceptable. But do you
• 1:36:11
Speaker 1: like him better? Because no, no, No, I think that's
• 1:36:14
  Speaker 1: a stra's that's that's good. I like Edelman better because
• 1:36:18
Speaker 1: I just thought he was a better player. That's that's fine,
• 1:36:21
  Speaker 1: and I would disagree, but that's that's okay. I I
• 1:36:24
Speaker 1: love both those guys. I mean, but what do you
• 1:36:27
Speaker 1: think Freddie's standpoint? It always comes down to, you know,
• 1:36:30
Speaker 1: like the guy you drafted is probably cheaper than the
• 1:36:34
Speaker 1: guy that's all around. Help. Yeah, I mean that. I mean,
• 1:36:37
Speaker 1: if you're asking me what I'd rather draft a guy
• 1:36:40
Speaker 1: who turns out to be a stud or acquire a
• 1:36:43
Speaker 1: guy who's a stud. Yes, I'll take the drafted because
• 1:36:46
Speaker 1: they're the same player. And you're right, fred the drafted
• 1:36:49
Speaker 1: guy is going to be cheaper, right. And I remember,
• 1:36:52
Speaker 1: you know, remember when when Welker and Edelman were both
• 1:36:55
Speaker 1: on the team and there was this move to kind
• 1:36:57
Speaker 1: of replace Welker. Remember that? Yeah? And that thirteen Yeah,
• 1:37:01
Speaker 1: that was it was an interesting part of the I thought,
• 1:37:04
Speaker 1: the the Edelman um football life, Yeah, where he talked
• 1:37:08
Speaker 1: about that and sort of being it was a little
• 1:37:10
Speaker 1: uneasy the way that kind of went down. Yeah, let's
• 1:37:15
Speaker 1: check in with Eldred Denoth Carolina. Hey, Eldred, what's going
• 1:37:17
Speaker 1: on twelve? And maybe I'll tell y'all doing today good
• 1:37:21
Speaker 1: seem like Fred the jet lag huh lag one one
• 1:37:27
Speaker 1: of the two. Yeah, but we're all a little chill
• 1:37:29
Speaker 1: all heard y'all talking earlier. Everybody know Bill is going
• 1:37:33
Speaker 1: to run it back. He ain't gonna try to, you know,
• 1:37:36
Speaker 1: called for some reason, he thinks he's way of way
• 1:37:38
Speaker 1: of doing things. It is the best way of doing things.
• 1:37:41
Speaker 1: And even though if I could, he can't see the
• 1:37:43
Speaker 1: fast with the trees, that adversity in it, but he doesn't.
• 1:37:46
Speaker 1: So I think he's still living on that reputation and
• 1:37:48
Speaker 1: still coming down to realization that this stuff is not working,
• 1:37:52
Speaker 1: and not with bat Patricia. I got a bott believe,
• 1:37:56
  Speaker 1: but unhappy Like I can't. I can't tell, like if
• 1:38:01
Speaker 1: you got to gave him the truth serum and he'd
• 1:38:02
Speaker 1: be like, no, the offense is actually pretty good this year. Like,
• 1:38:04
Speaker 1: I think he thinks there's an issue. I think Fred
• 1:38:07
Speaker 1: is right. I think he's like he didn't win nine
• 1:38:09
Speaker 1: million games and nine million Super Bowls not understanding football. Yeah,
• 1:38:14
  Speaker 1: I think he understands there's a problem. I just feel
• 1:38:16
Speaker 1: like he thinks the best solution isn't the same thing
• 1:38:20
Speaker 1: that you and I might think is the best solution.
• 1:38:22
Speaker 1: And I think he probably thinks that I can get
• 1:38:24
Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien, who's gonna do things the way I know
• 1:38:26
Speaker 1: he'll do them, So you know the devil, I know, Yes,
• 1:38:31
Speaker 1: if I have to do someone that I don't know,
• 1:38:32
Speaker 1: and I don't know how the mix is gonna work,
• 1:38:34
  Speaker 1: I don't think that he's gonna make a change. Yeah,
• 1:38:36
Speaker 1: I don't develop. Yeah he'll get there, he'll figure it out.
• 1:38:44
  Speaker 1: We'll have a new what I think, And he ain't
• 1:38:46
Speaker 1: gonna never figure it out because, like I see, people
• 1:38:50
Speaker 1: aren't from the goal. One o the teams doing the
• 1:38:52
Speaker 1: weekend one guy run the slant guy run a post corner.
• 1:38:56
Speaker 1: They crossed between touchdown yet you know, or slant down
• 1:39:01
Speaker 1: on the gold line, you know, or stayed you know
• 1:39:05
Speaker 1: like this you haven't got to that part yet, Like
• 1:39:08
Speaker 1: that's part of the playbook. He's still studying. That was
• 1:39:10
Speaker 1: a little like to me, and let me throw a
• 1:39:13
Speaker 1: name at name at y'all. I know you're about telling
• 1:39:15
Speaker 1: about wide receiver. I love to have one too, because
• 1:39:17
Speaker 1: I'm a wide receiver guy. But I've been saying it
• 1:39:19
Speaker 1: for fifteen years, so that's true. But there's two corners
• 1:39:24
Speaker 1: that you can go get next here and the two
• 1:39:27
Speaker 1: teams trying to run them off, and they both know
• 1:39:29
Speaker 1: they played pretty good. Mike Davis s the Chargers that
• 1:39:33
Speaker 1: number forty three that covered creting them and because they've
• 1:39:37
Speaker 1: been trying to run the mark because they got the
• 1:39:38
Speaker 1: other two guys. And there's this other guy off the Panthers.
• 1:39:41
Speaker 1: I think he's number forty eight. I've got his name,
• 1:39:43
Speaker 1: you know, ticks one space and it ran very well
• 1:39:47
Speaker 1: with anybody else love him covering press and man sold.
• 1:39:53
Speaker 1: I do think corner wouldn't be a bad idea. No,
• 1:39:57
  Speaker 1: I think it's and I was gonna just say I
• 1:39:59
Speaker 1: think it's and myself included. I think we've been, you know,
• 1:40:03
Speaker 1: lulled to sleep a little bit on the cornerbacks. I
• 1:40:04
Speaker 1: think the front has offset some of those concerns that
• 1:40:08
Speaker 1: we correctly had going into the season. And I think
• 1:40:11
Speaker 1: they need I mean, it's hard to get a guy
• 1:40:14
Speaker 1: when you have so many other needs, and I'd put
• 1:40:16
Speaker 1: tackle above it. And I think they do a great
• 1:40:17
Speaker 1: job generally developing corners. But Jonathan Jones is a free agent.
• 1:40:22
Speaker 1: You know, Mills has been out for a little bit.
• 1:40:24
  Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think anybody's gonna call him a
• 1:40:26
Speaker 1: number one receiver or sorry, number one cornerback. So I
• 1:40:29
Speaker 1: think it's another it's another need too. You know, at
• 1:40:32
Speaker 1: some point you got to kind of resign that they
• 1:40:34
Speaker 1: can coach up certain positions better than others. But I
• 1:40:37
Speaker 1: think you got to get back to having a guy
• 1:40:39
Speaker 1: like that like they did for most of the last decade.
• 1:40:41
Speaker 1: I would got to stop the offensive tracking out to defense,
• 1:40:45
Speaker 1: but I want to go back to the offense. You know,
• 1:40:48
Speaker 1: we talk about what does Bill think about the offense
• 1:40:51
Speaker 1: as a whole, but a lot of this is a
• 1:40:55
Speaker 1: lot of what's going to happen in the future is
• 1:40:57
Speaker 1: what does Bill think about mac Jones. Does he really
• 1:41:00
Speaker 1: believe in mac Jones? Does he think he can be
• 1:41:03
Speaker 1: the guy? And so much of what we'll see happen.
• 1:41:06
Speaker 1: I think this offseason is based on what he thinks
• 1:41:10
  Speaker 1: of Mac. I think that's a great point. And I
• 1:41:15
Speaker 1: think also if he thinks enough of Mac Jones to
• 1:41:21
Speaker 1: definitively want to continue working with him, I think that
• 1:41:25
Speaker 1: has to weigh into the thought process of making a change,
• 1:41:28
Speaker 1: because clearly there's not a good mix there with Mac
• 1:41:32
Speaker 1: Jones and Matt Patricia. I gotta go on mute for
• 1:41:34
Speaker 1: a second. I got somebody here, all right, So I
• 1:41:37
Speaker 1: just I feel like the whole I mean, we've seen
• 1:41:40
Speaker 1: it festering from the summer, and now it's coming to
• 1:41:44
Speaker 1: a head under that spotlight of these national cameras the
• 1:41:47
Speaker 1: last couple of weeks. Mike, Well, I just I guess
• 1:41:49
Speaker 1: what I'm thinking about right now is what's the difference
• 1:41:52
Speaker 1: between specifically doing it for mac Jones and just what
• 1:41:55
Speaker 1: the Patriots to just generally do to build their offense,
• 1:41:58
Speaker 1: regardless of who their quarterback is, you know, And like
• 1:42:01
Speaker 1: I feel saying that should be a part of the equation,
• 1:42:04
Speaker 1: like if you think that Patricia will be okay eventually, Like, yeah,
• 1:42:08
  Speaker 1: there's there's some issues, but he's gonna be ok He's
• 1:42:09
Speaker 1: getting it. It's getting better. But Mac Jones doesn't get
• 1:42:13
  Speaker 1: along with him. I think I think that's got a
• 1:42:15
Speaker 1: wigh in. Yeah, you know, I think you'll get it.
• 1:42:17
Speaker 1: But I can't afford to wait a round and the
• 1:42:19
Speaker 1: quarterback doesn't like him, I gotta make a change, yeah,
• 1:42:21
Speaker 1: as opposed to just flat out well, the quarterback loves
• 1:42:25
Speaker 1: him and he's getting it, so why don't I just
• 1:42:28
Speaker 1: stick with it? Yeah? And I guess slightly along those lines.
• 1:42:32
Speaker 1: I just I mean we've talked about it before the
• 1:42:34
Speaker 1: you know, Mac really likes Jacobe. I mean he said,
• 1:42:36
Speaker 1: you know, I love playing with him and you know,
• 1:42:39
Speaker 1: love to play with him for a long time. He's
• 1:42:40
Speaker 1: a free agent, you know, Matt kind of I don't
• 1:42:43
Speaker 1: want to say favorites, but I mean, certainly I think
• 1:42:45
Speaker 1: he's got a good relationship with Kendrick Bourne that the
• 1:42:47
Speaker 1: kind of seems to stand out. It seems like maybe
• 1:42:48
Speaker 1: Hunter Henry too. I mean, I don't know, those are
• 1:42:51
Speaker 1: all three of those guys are part of the Gang
• 1:42:52
Speaker 1: of five? Do you let Jacobe walk? Like? You know?
• 1:42:55
Speaker 1: I mean, it's like it's one thing to say we
• 1:42:57
Speaker 1: got to go out and sign a really good wide
• 1:42:59
Speaker 1: receiver for Mac. Is that going to move the needle
• 1:43:02
Speaker 1: for Mac? As much as if you go get and
• 1:43:04
Speaker 1: I'm want to compare Jerry Judy to Jacoby Myers maybe
• 1:43:06
Speaker 1: you know somebody else, but is it going to move
• 1:43:09
Speaker 1: the needle more for Mac Jones if you just bring
• 1:43:10
Speaker 1: back Jacoby Myers and that's like a move to like, Okay,
• 1:43:13
Speaker 1: we brought this guy back. You know, this is you know,
• 1:43:15
Speaker 1: like a sign of good will kind of thing, Like
• 1:43:17
Speaker 1: are they going to start going to those links to
• 1:43:19
Speaker 1: kind of please him and to get him back on board.
• 1:43:21
Speaker 1: And what does that you know, what does that look like? Yeah?
• 1:43:25
Speaker 1: I'm back. Fair points are great because if you believe
• 1:43:28
Speaker 1: in Mac, then you have to start doing what's best
• 1:43:31
Speaker 1: for Mac right, believe in them right. And if Mac
• 1:43:35
Speaker 1: doesn't want Patricia to stay as offensive coordinator, I think
• 1:43:38
Speaker 1: that has to be part of the decision process. Yeah. Yeah,
• 1:43:42
Speaker 1: I had another one back to the phones. Here we
• 1:43:44
Speaker 1: got Scott in Wellesley. Hey Scott, what's going on? Hey guys?
• 1:43:47
Speaker 1: That are you good? You know? I had three quick points.
• 1:43:51
Speaker 1: Number one I had a question for Fred and then
• 1:43:53
Speaker 1: a question form for Paul. But you know, I was
• 1:43:56
Speaker 1: I think Tony Easton would be the best quarterback for
• 1:43:58
Speaker 1: this for this offense, just because he was great at
• 1:44:01
Speaker 1: throwing for six yards when you needed eight, and we
• 1:44:04
Speaker 1: throw so many balls in front of the first down line.
• 1:44:06
Speaker 1: It's really frustrating to watch um. But my question for
• 1:44:10
Speaker 1: Fred is who do you think will be end up
• 1:44:12
Speaker 1: being a bigger bust? John Williams or Taykowon Thornton? And
• 1:44:17
Speaker 1: then you know, I just I don't know if truly
• 1:44:20
Speaker 1: a question more than appreciation of the you know the
• 1:44:24
Speaker 1: fact that Bill was able to lock up Divine guideshow
• 1:44:27
Speaker 1: before the season. You know, we were en Vinegar, Fred
• 1:44:38
Speaker 1: Bigger Bust John Williamson that wants to Williams. I think
• 1:44:42
Speaker 1: Thornton's gonna be fine based on what I mean that
• 1:44:46
Speaker 1: play lasted. I was praying up by that play last
• 1:44:49
Speaker 1: night on the goal line where this is a guy
• 1:44:51
Speaker 1: who's supposed to be quick and be able to move,
• 1:44:54
Speaker 1: and it was like he had no understanding where the
• 1:44:56
Speaker 1: first down marker was. He had nobody staying bounced even
• 1:44:59
Speaker 1: though he not a heavy guy. And I haven't seen
• 1:45:02
Speaker 1: him really do anything. I mean, I know he did
• 1:45:04
Speaker 1: a nice end a round against Cleveland, but he said
• 1:45:06
Speaker 1: he he isn't really flashed. And they don't use them
• 1:45:08
Speaker 1: in this offense where you're only throwing the ball four
• 1:45:11
Speaker 1: or five yards. Why would you use a second round
• 1:45:14
Speaker 1: pick on the guy who really is only useful if
• 1:45:16
Speaker 1: you get him out in space. Yeah, I think you
• 1:45:19
Speaker 1: know you hate to say it, but let's see the
• 1:45:21
Speaker 1: second year jump. Let's see what happens in his second year.
• 1:45:24
Speaker 1: Like you said, they're really not using him a lot,
• 1:45:26
Speaker 1: and part of that is because of you know he's
• 1:45:29
Speaker 1: had some I call him alligator or lobster arms. He
• 1:45:35
Speaker 1: had some of those early, you know, a drop or two.
• 1:45:38
  Speaker 1: But I think he's got potential. I don't think he's
• 1:45:41
Speaker 1: going to be a bus like Jowan Williams. I think
• 1:45:44
Speaker 1: he'll be okay, Paul, you know, I think we were.
• 1:45:48
Speaker 1: You know, I just thought it was amazing the comments
• 1:45:50
Speaker 1: belichicked me before the season, the Bout and Gut show
• 1:45:53
Speaker 1: and again, you know, I worry that we should extend
• 1:45:56
Speaker 1: him now because he's so valuable and so great that,
• 1:45:58
Speaker 1: you know, you want to make sure he and his
• 1:46:00
Speaker 1: career as a patriot. But all getting aside. I mean,
• 1:46:03
Speaker 1: it makes you wonder what it is about this guy
• 1:46:06
Speaker 1: that made him decide to I mean, you I don't
• 1:46:08
Speaker 1: even know he was mentioned on the telecast last night. Yeah,
• 1:46:12
  Speaker 1: I mean I don't think. I just don't think that
• 1:46:15
Speaker 1: those kinds of players are as valuable as Bill does.
• 1:46:18
Speaker 1: I think, well, it also doesn't really matter that he
• 1:46:21
Speaker 1: gave Godshaw that money. It depends are you're gonna you're
• 1:46:24
Speaker 1: gonna are you gonna win in six months? Are you're
• 1:46:26
Speaker 1: gonna complain about cap space? Um? I don't like I personally,
• 1:46:32
Speaker 1: I personally don't care because I think you can always
• 1:46:34
Speaker 1: find cap space. But that's a very common excuse in
• 1:46:37
Speaker 1: the NFL. No, I know, so I don't like wasting
• 1:46:40
Speaker 1: cap space on run stuffing defensive tackles who are who
• 1:46:43
Speaker 1: are really okay at it? Yeah, well, no, that's what
• 1:46:50
Speaker 1: Bill thinks. What is about the fact that when they're
• 1:46:53
Speaker 1: looking for a spark they bring in Marcus Jones and
• 1:46:56
Speaker 1: throw the ball out to him. Yeah, that's a point
• 1:46:58
Speaker 1: that Mike has brought up, But you do not really
• 1:47:00
Speaker 1: directing any of your comments to Mike. Well, Mike's doing
• 1:47:03
Speaker 1: a terrific job, you know, So I question for Mike, actually,
• 1:47:06
Speaker 1: now that you mentioned it, one quick question for you, Mike,
• 1:47:09
Speaker 1: let's go Mike. So, you know, you look at mac
• 1:47:11
Speaker 1: Jones and how he ingry is, you know, and it's like,
• 1:47:15
  Speaker 1: I think he's upside. I like him a little bit
• 1:47:17
  Speaker 1: better than Paul. I don't think he's a don't I
• 1:47:19
Speaker 1: think he can be a good quarterback, but I guess,
• 1:47:22
Speaker 1: but you look at it, he could be a Kirk Cousins, right,
• 1:47:24
Speaker 1: But Kirk Cousins has justin Jefferson Adam stealing. Do you
• 1:47:28
Speaker 1: do you buy this? I don't think these wide receivers
• 1:47:31
Speaker 1: are as bad as they have been, like you know,
• 1:47:33
Speaker 1: back in the Kimberal Tompkins are and so forth. But
• 1:47:36
Speaker 1: do you think a guy like Mac Jones. Are they
• 1:47:39
Speaker 1: doing this because these guys can't get open down the field.
• 1:47:42
  Speaker 1: I mean, I think they're better than what they're playing
• 1:47:44
  Speaker 1: right now. I mean, and I don't think that they're
• 1:47:46
Speaker 1: necessarily you know, a top top ten offense, but I
• 1:47:49
Speaker 1: think that they have the pieces to be better than
• 1:47:51
  Speaker 1: what they've done. And I mean that's why I would,
• 1:47:53
Speaker 1: you know, point toward coaching. Um, you know, I just
• 1:47:56
Speaker 1: I think you need to build with weapons. You need
• 1:48:00
Speaker 1: to This is what the NFL is now, even if
• 1:48:02
Speaker 1: it's Mac Jones or Bailey Zappy or Tony Easton or
• 1:48:05
Speaker 1: whoever you got in there at quarterback. It's just it
• 1:48:07
Speaker 1: seems to me like it's just good practice now to
• 1:48:10
Speaker 1: invest a Day two pick at least every single draft
• 1:48:13
Speaker 1: on a potential explosive, game changing type player, whether it's
• 1:48:17
  Speaker 1: a tight end, whether it's wide receiver, whether it's a
• 1:48:19
Speaker 1: running back. Always making sure that right. So, why do
• 1:48:23
Speaker 1: you think he's been such a you know, a non
• 1:48:25
  Speaker 1: factor since he's a guy here, Oh, that's that's that's
• 1:48:28
  Speaker 1: one of life's great mysteries. It's a miss. He's he's
• 1:48:31
Speaker 1: what he was in Tennessee. It's a miss evaluation. Yeah,
• 1:48:34
Speaker 1: thanks Scott, And that ends the Scott and Wellesley Show.
• 1:48:37
Speaker 1: You know, tune in again tomorrow. No, he came ready.
• 1:48:42
Speaker 1: I'm running out of steam pall after in the last
• 1:48:44
Speaker 1: twenty four hours. I needed a little help there. Yeah,
• 1:48:46
Speaker 1: But why, like why did they give him four years?
• 1:48:50
Speaker 1: Four years? Like that tells me we see something in
• 1:48:53
Speaker 1: this guy. He fits us and I want him to
• 1:48:55
Speaker 1: be part of everything. And I do think he has
• 1:48:57
Speaker 1: sort of that athletic profile to be more. But I
• 1:49:00
Speaker 1: just think he's one of those guys that doesn't have
• 1:49:02
Speaker 1: the football trades. Like I don't think it ever looks smooth. No,
• 1:49:06
Speaker 1: And that's what I was gonna say, Like he said,
• 1:49:07
Speaker 1: for as good an athlete as he is, weird, choppy
• 1:49:11
Speaker 1: strides and it's like he kind of lunges at the
• 1:49:13
Speaker 1: ball and he's not like big powerful, he's not really
• 1:49:17
Speaker 1: quick savvy. He's just I mean, he's got good size,
• 1:49:20
  Speaker 1: but I can't. I just can't. Majority of plays that
• 1:49:23
Speaker 1: he's made for the Patriots have been plays that are
• 1:49:26
Speaker 1: designed just to get him the ball. Yep, like a
• 1:49:29
Speaker 1: quick screen, go quick, little cross underneath, yeah, sideline. You know,
• 1:49:35
  Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know what the deal is,
• 1:49:37
Speaker 1: but I mean, like he could never picture him going
• 1:49:40
Speaker 1: down the scene like Hunter Henry did. Exactly. No, yeah, exactly.
• 1:49:44
Speaker 1: I don't twisted up in the air. I could picture
• 1:49:47
Speaker 1: him twisting around the ball, bouncing off his hand and
• 1:49:49
Speaker 1: getting picked off by a deep safety. Did this not
• 1:49:52
  Speaker 1: show up? I don't know. Now he hasn't Like I
• 1:49:56
Speaker 1: think he was like a forty catch guy with Tennessee
• 1:49:58
Speaker 1: and he's not going to catch forty ball this year. Um,
• 1:50:01
Speaker 1: but he kind of is what he is, like, I
• 1:50:04
Speaker 1: don't think I think people had visions of him being
• 1:50:07
Speaker 1: like this seventy catch guy with you know, I just
• 1:50:11
Speaker 1: take the forty with touchdowns after touchdowns, and you know
• 1:50:16
Speaker 1: what does he have twenty two? Yeah, twenty two catches
• 1:50:21
Speaker 1: he has, So he's gonna end up falling like for
• 1:50:26
Speaker 1: the second year in a row. Yep. I don't know.
• 1:50:30
Speaker 1: I think it. I just think they were so desperate
• 1:50:33
Speaker 1: for tight ends that just grab the two best ones
• 1:50:36
Speaker 1: that are available in this particular year and try to
• 1:50:39
Speaker 1: balance him out. As best you can. But yeah, that's
• 1:50:42
Speaker 1: ah I should say too. I know, yes I said
• 1:50:45
Speaker 1: earlier about the free agents that chewed on was but
• 1:50:48
  Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think Godshaw has been terrible. I
• 1:50:50
Speaker 1: mean I think that he's been something that they've needed
• 1:50:52
Speaker 1: and he's been able to play. You know, he's been
• 1:50:55
Speaker 1: reliable as far as that, and um, you know, and
• 1:50:58
Speaker 1: Hunter Henry. I think two has been I know, not
• 1:51:01
Speaker 1: the one a tight end that that, but I think
• 1:51:05
Speaker 1: he's been I mean he's real solo start, real solo start. Um,
• 1:51:09
Speaker 1: you know, I think he's at least given them production
• 1:51:11
Speaker 1: and you know, some degree of reliability. But I still
• 1:51:14
Speaker 1: I still look at the tight end position as ideally upgradeable,
• 1:51:18
Speaker 1: ideally you know, to get a guy at least just
• 1:51:20
Speaker 1: get one guy who can do it all. Um, I
• 1:51:23
Speaker 1: know those guys don't grow on trees. And it's not
• 1:51:25
Speaker 1: like anybody, I mean, like here we are, it's it's
• 1:51:28
Speaker 1: we're heading into the fourteenth game of the season and
• 1:51:30
Speaker 1: Mac Jones has seven touchdown passes, Like he barely has
• 1:51:35
Speaker 1: more than Bailey Zappy. He doesn't throw into the end.
• 1:51:38
Speaker 1: That's crazy, Like I said, we are not witnessing an
• 1:51:42
Speaker 1: NFL offense at this point. Yep, we're not. It was
• 1:51:46
Speaker 1: striking the last caller that just said, you know, they
• 1:51:49
Speaker 1: don't throw it inside the red zone. Like it's like,
• 1:51:52
Speaker 1: I mean, they got in with with Harris, but you
• 1:51:54
Speaker 1: just don't see them putting any trust in Mac being
• 1:51:57
Speaker 1: him to thread the needle down close. And I agreed
• 1:51:59
Speaker 1: with his comment about that catch that Thornton made, like
• 1:52:02
Speaker 1: there's another guy who's supposed to be like a really
• 1:52:05
Speaker 1: really special kind of athlete ending Now, look, I actually
• 1:52:09
Speaker 1: want to see a slowdown version of the catch again
• 1:52:11
Speaker 1: because I'm not sure he was in bounds, like when
• 1:52:15
Speaker 1: he turned around he got called out of bounds when
• 1:52:18
Speaker 1: when his foot came down out of bounds, I'm not
• 1:52:20
Speaker 1: sure he had that foot inbounds when he made contact
• 1:52:23
Speaker 1: with the ball. Like, and it didn't matter because they
• 1:52:26
Speaker 1: kicked the field goal in the next play anyway, and
• 1:52:28
Speaker 1: they would have done that have they called it incomplete.
• 1:52:30
Speaker 1: But I just think, like Scott said, that's a play
• 1:52:34
Speaker 1: that he should have been able to contort his body
• 1:52:36
Speaker 1: and athletically get up Phil, I think Mac was upset
• 1:52:38
Speaker 1: about it, don't you think sure? What was it? Third
• 1:52:40
Speaker 1: and nine? He got eight is that and he was
• 1:52:42
Speaker 1: wide open like he should have had a chance to
• 1:52:44
Speaker 1: get up the sideline and get the first out of
• 1:52:46
Speaker 1: the way, if not the touchdown. Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna be.
• 1:52:51
Speaker 1: I'm gonna be on a big body. Watch next training
• 1:52:53
Speaker 1: camp for Thornton to see if he puts any meat
• 1:52:55
Speaker 1: range and Strange, if those guys are able to bulk
• 1:52:59
Speaker 1: up and look like they got on the what is it?
• 1:53:01
Speaker 1: What do they call it? Get him on the program?
• 1:53:03
Speaker 1: Program the program? Well, now the program is the football
• 1:53:06
Speaker 1: dring logan and have him be a personal trainer for
• 1:53:10
Speaker 1: personal coach for Cold Strange. It might have to send
• 1:53:14
Speaker 1: Cold Strange down to the farm. Yeah, it would be
• 1:53:16
Speaker 1: like kind of a old fashioned farm strength. Yes, Cogan,
• 1:53:20
Speaker 1: be like, go shovel that pilot manure. I'll tell you
• 1:53:23
Speaker 1: when you shovel that pile of manure, I think cold
• 1:53:26
Speaker 1: Strangers are do it in a second. Oh, that's where
• 1:53:28
Speaker 1: I'm asking you buy me five guys afterwards, Thank you, sir.
• 1:53:33
Speaker 1: H quick question here on the emails from Joe been
• 1:53:37
Speaker 1: wondering does a coach's salary affect the cat? Uh? No?
• 1:53:40
Speaker 1: So was it cheaper for build that Mattie P coach
• 1:53:42
Speaker 1: offense than to pay someone this year. I think that's
• 1:53:44
Speaker 1: uh No, it doesn't affect the cat, but it affects
• 1:53:48
Speaker 1: the owner's budget. So he's probably still getting paid by Detroit, right,
• 1:53:52
Speaker 1: and yes, and it may affect I mean, we've had
• 1:53:54
Speaker 1: differing reports on this. It may affect Belichick's budget. Yeah,
• 1:53:59
Speaker 1: I don't know truth on that one. We don't know
• 1:54:01
Speaker 1: the truth on that. Nope, he continues. Do you find
• 1:54:05
Speaker 1: it interesting that the tight end situation this year league
• 1:54:07
Speaker 1: wide has been questionable? There's only a strong top five,
• 1:54:10
Speaker 1: when in other years it felt like there's an emphasis
• 1:54:11
Speaker 1: on that position a lot more great TV I was,
• 1:54:13
Speaker 1: I was wondering about that a little bit. I don't know.
• 1:54:15
Speaker 1: I don't see that at all. I think virtually every
• 1:54:17
Speaker 1: week I watched, you know, and it's guys that are capable.
• 1:54:20
Speaker 1: I'm not even talking about like numbers, you know, like
• 1:54:24
Speaker 1: Darren Waller has been hurt all you he doesn't have numbers,
• 1:54:26
Speaker 1: but he's a good tight end, you know. Mike Asiki
• 1:54:28
Speaker 1: hasn't really had a tremendous amount of activity, Dawson Knox,
• 1:54:33
Speaker 1: you know, but like you got Kelsey Kittle, Mark Andrews,
• 1:54:38
Speaker 1: like they're good tight ends in the league. Still, don't
• 1:54:41
Speaker 1: you think? Yeah, real quick before we wrap up. I
• 1:54:44
Speaker 1: thought it was a fun play this week where Buffalo
• 1:54:48
Speaker 1: fad faked like the motion under center, like they were
• 1:54:53
Speaker 1: going to go quick with Dawson Knox, and then they
• 1:54:55
Speaker 1: got c. J. Mosley, J Mosley, which was like, you know,
• 1:54:57
Speaker 1: the guy who like is anticipating everybody's play book just
• 1:55:00
Speaker 1: been flying a play. It seemed completely like they one
• 1:55:04
Speaker 1: hundred percent we're targeting him with that exact play of
• 1:55:07
Speaker 1: you know, the guy motions in, gets under center and
• 1:55:09
Speaker 1: goes quick and he just didn't even hesitate and jumped out.
• 1:55:11
Speaker 1: That was a big play. It was nothing. Nothing. At
• 1:55:13
Speaker 1: the end of the half, they might have had a
• 1:55:14
Speaker 1: punt there had they not drawn him offside, and then
• 1:55:16
Speaker 1: they went down and got a touchdown. Yeah, a lot
• 1:55:18
  Speaker 1: of a lot of that. C J. Mosley, man, he's
• 1:55:20
Speaker 1: all over the place. They like that. I like that
• 1:55:23
Speaker 1: against the Bills. Uh Rich in New York City thrown
• 1:55:26
Speaker 1: out Cliff Kingsbury as those about that little bit. Yeah,
• 1:55:29
Speaker 1: but like I did not realize this. I know a
• 1:55:32
Speaker 1: lot of people have sort of been throwing that name around.
• 1:55:34
Speaker 1: He just signed an extension. He's under contract till twenty seven. Wow, Like,
• 1:55:38
Speaker 1: I don't think they're gonna pull the plug on Kingsbury.
• 1:55:41
Speaker 1: And then they got they got Kyler and now he's hurt.
• 1:55:44
Speaker 1: So I mean, if they're gonna blow something up, they
• 1:55:46
Speaker 1: gonna blow it all up with all those contracts. Like
• 1:55:48
Speaker 1: and that's you know, we talked about Mike Brown earlier. Well,
• 1:55:51
Speaker 1: Mike Bidwell in Arizona is similar. He's pretty tight. Like
• 1:55:56
Speaker 1: I don't see him swallowing that kind of money. Yeah,
• 1:55:59
Speaker 1: oh no, I mean, well you mentioned like, you know,
• 1:56:02
Speaker 1: all the owners in the NFL have money, but they
• 1:56:04
Speaker 1: don't all have to have the same They're not all
• 1:56:08
Speaker 1: all have the same liquidity, right, That's that's a Raiders
• 1:56:11
Speaker 1: thing too, right, Yeah, yeah, part of the reason why
• 1:56:15
Speaker 1: why Josh is safe. Uh. Winding through some of these
• 1:56:19
Speaker 1: last emails, zach and Brighton writes in he likes Michael Pittman.
• 1:56:23
Speaker 1: I like Michael Pittman coming out. Don't down on the cults.
• 1:56:26
Speaker 1: He's uh, he's been pretty good. Um. How much high
• 1:56:30
Speaker 1: do you think his trade value is compared to Judy
• 1:56:31
Speaker 1: and Higgins? So slightly less he would be less than
• 1:56:35
Speaker 1: certain well maybe not Judy, but certainly less than Higgins.
• 1:56:39
Speaker 1: Higgins will be looking looking to get paid. I just
• 1:56:41
Speaker 1: I see the Bengals as being like, we can only
• 1:56:43
Speaker 1: do Joe Burrow and maybe Chase Yeah, and that's all
• 1:56:47
Speaker 1: you get. And you also have to target guys that
• 1:56:49
Speaker 1: you think might be looking to get out, like I'm
• 1:56:52
Speaker 1: not sure Pittman fault, like Judy's clearly been frustrated. I
• 1:56:55
Speaker 1: can't believe he didn't get in trouble for that tirade
• 1:56:59
Speaker 1: that he had yanked his helmet off and made contact
• 1:57:01
Speaker 1: with the ref, not even a penalty, let alone getting
• 1:57:05
Speaker 1: thrown out of the game, and then he scored three
• 1:57:06
Speaker 1: touchdowns after that. But Judy, to me, is disgrunt old.
• 1:57:11
Speaker 1: I think Higgins could want his money and realize he
• 1:57:13
Speaker 1: ain't gonna get it it, might want out earlier now.
• 1:57:16
Speaker 1: I could also see Higgins saying, no, we had a
• 1:57:18
Speaker 1: really good team here. I'm gonna ride this out. I'll
• 1:57:21
Speaker 1: max my value. I'll be on an unrestricted free agent
• 1:57:24
Speaker 1: and I'll get it because I'm going to be part
• 1:57:26
Speaker 1: of a really good team here, and Joe Burrow knows
• 1:57:28
Speaker 1: how to keep us all involved. I know, Mac, I
• 1:57:31
Speaker 1: mean didn't really play officially much with Judy but I
• 1:57:34
Speaker 1: just like again feels like but Alabama stuff like give
• 1:57:36
Speaker 1: Mac his guys, you know, try to Like I just
• 1:57:39
Speaker 1: I just wonder if you're gonna read between the lines
• 1:57:41
Speaker 1: and see motivation of moves that maybe this doesn't make
• 1:57:44
Speaker 1: total sense, but when you look at it through the
• 1:57:46
Speaker 1: lens of Mac Jones, this is gonna make him happy,
• 1:57:49
Speaker 1: This is gonna get him back on board with us.
• 1:57:53
Speaker 1: All right, we're winding things down. Fred any lasts any
• 1:57:56
Speaker 1: final thoughts there before we wrap up this this beast
• 1:57:59
Speaker 1: of a show. I would just you know, we started
• 1:58:02
Speaker 1: the show by talking about how the broadcast was, you know,
• 1:58:06
Speaker 1: so in the Mac camp and he has a right
• 1:58:08
Speaker 1: to be frustrated, and they were so so on that
• 1:58:14
Speaker 1: narrative that you wonder like there must not have been
• 1:58:18
Speaker 1: anything in their production meeting and anything that they talked
• 1:58:22
Speaker 1: to before the game that was contrary to that, so something,
• 1:58:29
Speaker 1: you know, they don't just say that stuff. So it
• 1:58:33
Speaker 1: tells me that everything that they heard pregame gave them
• 1:58:39
Speaker 1: that opinion, And you just wonder what's going on. What
• 1:58:44
Speaker 1: is going on? The coach is pretty open in those
• 1:58:46
Speaker 1: little those little chin wags, but if they can be
• 1:58:49
Speaker 1: but I think Belichick has been burned a little bit
• 1:58:51
Speaker 1: the last few times. Yonder if maybe he was a
• 1:58:54
Speaker 1: little bit more tight lipped than he normally is. Yeah,
• 1:58:57
Speaker 1: but even if he was tight lipped, then then why
• 1:58:59
Speaker 1: would you be so sure that Mac has a right
• 1:59:03
Speaker 1: to be frustrated? You know? Yep, it's a good point
• 1:59:06
Speaker 1: that I would address. If you want to hang on
• 1:59:09
Speaker 1: the line, I'll talk a little bit off the air
• 1:59:11
Speaker 1: and give you a theory or two, okay, or save
• 1:59:14
Speaker 1: it for tomorrow. No, it's got to happen now. It
• 1:59:18
Speaker 1: won't be a theory I'm sharing on air. Well, just
• 1:59:21
Speaker 1: so you guys know, and everyone out there knows, FedEx
• 1:59:24
Speaker 1: we're ready for the holidays. They are ready, Fred you
• 1:59:26
Speaker 1: know it, I know it. We all know. Whatever you
• 1:59:28
Speaker 1: gotta do. You gotta get a package there, FedEx, they're
• 1:59:30
Speaker 1: ready for it, send it their way, all right. Well,
• 1:59:33
Speaker 1: that'll do it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. We'll
• 1:59:36
Speaker 1: be back tomorrow. We got some of the gang out west,
• 1:59:39
Speaker 1: so maybe we'll get a check in from from some
• 1:59:40
Speaker 1: of the Arizona crew as they start to I guess
• 1:59:43
Speaker 1: we'll see what the practice schedule like and availability and
• 1:59:46
Speaker 1: all those things. The coaches did talk today, so they'll
• 1:59:48
Speaker 1: be certainly some things coming out of that. So until then,
• 1:59:50
Speaker 1: we will see you tomorrow. Thank you for downloading this podcast,
