- 1:40for Johnny Dellar at mcgreg and Universal Adjustment hereaud Oh, hi, Patty,
- 1:48this is my third call where you've been. I'm buying some tackle. I
- 1:49want to go fishing. Yeah, I'm heading down to New York State.

- 1:57trot and Patsy, my fishing is one thing you aren't going to interfere with.
- 2:00I wouldn't think of it. Why don't you try a Linke Mohafi?
- 2:04Where is that along the Colorado River up between Nevada and Arizona? What sure
- 2:08beat against a Greater Southwest Insurance and Liability What are you talking about? I
- 2:13don't know how you'd value those at Shopper's River Trout. There's a fish out
- 2:16there that maybe worth three million bucks. Johnny, I'll be right over tonight
- 2:29and every weekday night. Bob Bailey in the transcribed Adventures of the Man with
- 2:32the action packed Expense Account of America's fabulous freelance insurance investigator, Yours Truly,
- 2:38Johnny Dollar. Expense account submitted by special Investigator Johnny Dollar to Greater Southwest Insurance
- 2:57and Liability Company Kingman, Arizona, office. Following is an accounting of expenses
- 3:01incurred during my investigation of the Midas Touch Matter expense account out of one cabfair
- 3:10from my apartment to the Universal Adjustment Bureau eighty two forty two North Spring.
- 3:15When I got there, Pat McCracken was standing holding the door of his office
- 3:17open for me and Johnny. But don't bother shitting down. Now, what's
- 3:21that supposed to me? It means you haven't got time you're pack Oh you
- 3:23bet? I am for a trip to the sofas and some of those pretty
- 3:25rainbows in Eastern Brook. Trot got a new little oil called fast Strike.
- 3:30I want to try out. I hear it's great. Sorry, but if
- 3:32there's going to be any actual fishing, it's going to be for Lake Mohave
- 3:36Bass. Here there you playing tickets here to New York non stop Los Angeles
- 3:40and not to Las Vegas. Now you'll have to go to Kingman Arizoner by
- 3:44car hold On boys. Slow down. Man is Ian Kingman is Jake Kessler
- 3:46at Southwest. Pat. Uh, you mind telling me what it's all about
- 3:51the Midas touch Mine, new racket and uranium, I said, Midas gold
- 3:55Mine. Oh sure, Well what's the insurance angle? Ask J Kessler.
- 4:00When you get the Kingdom, what but you gonn at least tell you you
- 4:02only got twenty minutes to catch your plane to New York. You mean if
- 4:04I had just signed it and with a million and a half dollars maybe three
- 4:08million at steak, nobody's going to quibble too much over your expense account.
- 4:13Maybe I should take a crack at those Lake Mojave baths expense a count Adams
- 4:19two and three, two ninety even a handful of American Express travelers checks and
- 4:24cav fair. Back to my apartment for my luggage, then to the airport.
- 4:28From my plane to New York to Las Vegas, Nevada. It was
- 4:35eleven thirty pm when the big plane slowly glided down out of the clear,
- 4:39starlet sky. And unless you've seen the millions billions of stars that twinkle brightly
- 4:45through the clear, dry air over the Mohave Desert, you've missed a real
- 4:47thrill. We glided down toward the landing strip on the edge of the town
- 4:50of Las Vegas. From the air, the myriad multicolored lights made the fambuinous
- 4:56resort sparkle like a field of jewels. I had them four to thirty cents
- 4:59phone call to car rental agencies they were all closed. I had them five
- 5:02sixty five cents per cab to the Flamingo Hotel, where I decided to spend
- 5:05the night and drive on to Kingman in the morning. I had them six
- 5:09hotel overnight food and incidentals one hundred seventy eight dollars thirty cents. If you
- 5:18know Las Vegas, you know what that word incidentals me fifteen odd and blacks.
- 5:26Wave your bats please. There we got to the boy. I'll say
- 5:33this much. I tried to make some expense money on the side, but
- 5:38well, I guess I shouldn't have tried to cover so many of the gambling
- 5:41joints if I'd stayed at the Flamingo, where I'd always made me a buck
- 5:44or two at the casino. But this time lady luck just wasn't on my
- 5:47side. Anyway. Well, I had them seven fifty dollars deposit on a
- 5:58rental car. The next morning, I headed south and east toward king in
- 6:00Arizona. First stopover dam Or, that tremendous hunk of steel on masonry straddles
- 6:05the Nevada Arizona state line, and I took a brief but longing look at
- 6:10what I could see of giant Lake Meet. I wanted to stay right there,
- 6:13break out my fishing tackle and take a crack at some of the huge
- 6:15lunker baths for which lake meat is famous. But duty is duty or something.
- 6:20Anyhow, I hit the highway again across the hot, dry desert toward
- 6:24the city of Kingdon. At this time of year, at this time of
- 6:27morning, the thermometer hits the hundred mark without any trouble at all, and
- 6:30the occasional swimming pools and motels outside Kingman looked pretty inviting. When I drove
- 6:34straight to Jake Kesseler's insurance office on East Palm Drive. Right. Must be
- 6:40Dollar, It's a good name, Come on in. Jake was tall,
- 6:43angular, well tanned, and dressed in blue jeans, opened denim shirt,
- 6:46high heeled boots, and broad brimmed hat. He looked as though he'd be
- 6:48more at home on a range point than in this insurance office. All right,
- 6:53Dollar, let me tell you what this is all about. Okay,
- 6:55thanks miss kissing Jake. You want the folks around town think I'm putting on
- 6:59airs? Okay, Jake. By the way, Johnny, I hope you
- 7:01didn't make any arrangements to stay right here in Kingman, did you No?
- 7:04My bags are still out in the car. A good I got a place
- 7:08waiting for you down at Catherine Landing Lake, Mahovey Resorts. What to call
- 7:12it now? It's nice cabins, good restaurant, nice people right down at
- 7:15the edge of the lake. Too bad you aren't a fisherman. Well,
- 7:19I just happened to have brought along a couple of rods and reels, good
- 7:24boy, and then you'll love it. Bust your favorite down there will show
- 7:28you a spot where you can haul in the prettiest mess of large mouth bash
- 7:30you ever saw, five six pounds maybe more. Oh, stop making my
- 7:33mouth water, Jake. I'm supposed to be here working on a case.
- 7:36Well, every man's entitled to a little time off for fishing, and you
- 7:41look like you could stand some. Brother. You are killing me. Listen,
- 7:44Pat mccrack and a Universal Adjustment Bureau said something about a gold boy.
- 7:46Hey, yeah, I contacted Pat because I knew he'd know where to find
- 7:50you. It's the Midas touch mine, Johnny, and it's tried down that
- 7:55neighborhood where you'll be staying. Well, the mine was abandoned back in the
- 7:59early thirties, worked out apparently, but about a year ago, hard luck
- 8:03Dennis took another look at it. We see Dennis prospector promoter here and there
- 8:09Arizona, Nevad of California. He's found himself an old mine, pecked away
- 8:11at it and managed to scratch out a fair living for himself, you said,
- 8:16promoter. Yeah, well, I was in Texas mostly I was able
- 8:18to get the full story. But it appears he got some folks to invest
- 8:22in some kind of phony oil stock down there a couple of years ago and
- 8:24had to skip out. Couldn't have been too serious. So because the law
- 8:28and never bothered chasing him up here or else, he was able to make
- 8:31things look legal enough, could be, could be anyhow, He's been back
- 8:35in this country for a while now, poking around the hills looking for the
- 8:37big strike again. You know how prospectors are. Yeah, I've heard finally
- 8:41while back he started prowling around the old Midas touched first thing. You know,
- 8:46he'd got a lease on it. Well, I still don't see the
- 8:48insurance connection. You will, you will and you won't like it. Okay.
- 8:52Well, next thing, we knew, he'd got a report on some
- 8:56ore samples he'd brought into town here at the essay office. Johnny, Well,
- 9:00you wouldn't breathe it good, huh, Johnny. It looked like a
- 9:03prospector's dream comes true or worth about eleven hundred dollars a time. All right,
- 9:07Now, it takes money to work a mind like that, no matter
- 9:09how you figure it. First of all, he had a big pumping job
- 9:13to do, pumping out there in the middle of the desert, that's right.
- 9:16You see, when there was just the Colorado River running down the valley,
- 9:20it was different. But since Davis Dam was put into form Lake Mohave
- 9:22about ten years ago, the level of the water table in that whole area
- 9:26is raised considered. I see, the Midas Touch was in a low spot
- 9:31and parts of it were dug pretty deep. So now with seepage from the
- 9:33lake feeding at the lower level filled up with water. Yeah, well,
- 9:37now, Jase, simmer down, Johnny, I'm getting to it. Hard
- 9:41luck. Dennis needed money, a lot of money. So who should he
- 9:43come to but the Haskell Brothers, three of my best clients. So what
- 9:46happened. I hate to keep chewing your ear off. Three, And I've
- 9:48got to give us some background. Shoot, Ernie Kevin and George Haskell.
- 9:54There moneymen from back east. What do you mean? Money men or brokers?
- 9:58You know stock market. Oh, they made themselves big pilot dough,
- 10:03got the usual ulcers doing it, and then decided to give up and get
- 10:07as far away from New York as possible. I don't blame them by the
- 10:09babus when they got out here. Instead of just retiring and taking it easy,
- 10:15you know, much as you might like it at first, you can
- 10:16get pretty bored just riding around on horseback and hunting and fishing all the time.
- 10:20Get turn of fishing, huh? Nothing go on? Yeah. Well,
- 10:24after a few months they decided they'd have to have something to do with
- 10:28themselves, or at least something to occupy their mind. So they bought up
- 10:31the old too lazy two ranch, eighty thousand acres northeastern ye're not very good
- 10:37grays in land, but enough to keep two three hundred head to beef alive,
- 10:39and with alex bundirs they're foreman. They did all right. Well,
- 10:43now let's get down to gentlemen, ranchers, they called themselves, and that's
- 10:46just about what it amounted to. They built a nice house on the property,
- 10:48settled in it. Well, not much work, but just enough worry
- 10:52and responsibility so that time didn't hang too heavy on their hands. Now now,
- 10:58now all their insurance is with my company, the Straight Life That is
- 11:03five hundred thousand apiece. And you're afraid something, sir, half a million
- 11:09each and double indemnity, wow, a million apiece in case of death by
- 11:13accident, right accident. So let's get back to hard luck Dennis. Well,
- 11:18that part's easy, isn't it. Is it? Sure? Dennis needs
- 11:22money to open his mind. The Haskell boys are obviously loaded. First off,
- 11:26Even before he got his leaps, he tried to sweep talk him into
- 11:28putting up some money. But after years of fooling around of those bulls and
- 11:33bears in Wall Street, they were too smart for that. So we took
- 11:35them down in the mine, let them chip off some samples or and had
- 11:39them take it themselves down at the assay office. And was that the ore
- 11:43that you said tested so high? Yes, sir, And from the minute
- 11:46they saw the report on it, you couldn't have held him back with a
- 11:48twenty mule team. How much did they go in for twenty thousand apiece cash
- 11:52on the strength of a handwritten agreement with hard Luck Dennis that they'd get thirty
- 11:56percent of whatever came out of the mind. Okay, Jake, Now let's
- 12:00get down to business. Are you afraid that something connected with his minas touched
- 12:05mine? And hard Luck Dennis is what the Haskell brothers in jeopardy? I'm
- 12:09afraid it's got beyond that, Johnny. Uh. Three days ago, hard
- 12:13Luck took the Haskeles over to the mine again for another look. Yeah,
- 12:16cave in. They finished digging their bodies out yesterday morning, all three of
- 12:22them. Hard Luck Dennis. He wasn't caught in that cave in? Where
- 12:26is he? Who knows? Hmm? Then for you, it's a question
- 12:31of a three million dollar payoff on the policies or a million and a half.
- 12:33Yep, Johnny, a question of accident or murder. And for me
- 12:39it's a matter of finding a killer, yeah, named hard Luck Dennis.
- 12:43And when you do, look out for him. Yeah, tell me,
- 12:46Jake, does anybody know I've come here to look into this the whole town.
- 12:50I'm afraid maybe I should have kept it quiet. Well, sometimes it
- 12:54is better if where are the policies? Oh? Here, I'll get them
- 12:58for you there right in this little side. Who are the beneficiaries? The
- 13:01only one the girl that is or was married to Kevin Haskell. The other
- 13:07two were bachelor's. She lived at the ranch. She finally claimed you no
- 13:11as well? Can you make the corners reports available to me anytime you want?
- 13:16I'll take it for you. Johnny Dollar, I mean this is the
- 13:20officer. You're the one I want to talk to. I want to talk
- 13:26to you. I want you to meet me your Oh who are you?
- 13:31Tell you in a second, and don't come care and again because mister I
- 13:35can outdraw your tutor. Who is this? You call me hard luck?
- 13:39Dennis? Johnny Dollar, I mean this is the office of Jay. You're
- 14:01the one I want to talk to her. Huh you heard me. I
- 14:05want you to meet me. Hello. Oh oh are you tell you?
- 14:07Whin and wearing a second? Don't come care and again because mister I cannot
- 14:11draw you to the win. Who is this? They call me hard luck?
- 14:13Dennis? Oh, you're planning to add another murders of that of the
- 14:18Hasko brothers. Thirteen miles out of Kingman on the Highway East Little Side Road
- 14:22to the right mark here for trade. Listen, I'm on the quarter,
- 14:24Ann you'll see an old minor shock be there at three o'clock shop. And
- 14:26what if I bring somebody with you or try anything funny and you'll never get
- 14:31out of this digital life? Hellod that called for me? Johnny? No,
- 14:41No, it wasn't Jake. But I wonder why a killer would call
- 14:45me expense accounts, I mean a buy special investigator Johnny Dollar location, Kingman,
- 14:58Arizona to the Greater Southwest Insurance and Liability Company, following as a report
- 15:01of expenditures. During my investigation of the Midas Touch matter, Jake Kessler,
- 15:09local representative for Greater Southwest Insurance and Liability, had laid it out pretty clearly.
- 15:15The three Haskell brothers, prosperous gentlemen ranchers, had taken out life policies
- 15:18totaling a million and a half dollars double indemnity, which meant that their death
- 15:22and what was supposed to look like an accident at the bottom of the Minas
- 15:26Touch mind could cause Southwest a cool three million and the finger of suspicion pointed
- 15:31straight at one hard Luck Dennis, prospector and promoter. It was in Jake
- 15:35Kessler's office that I had received a phone call from hard Luck. Where did
- 15:39hard Luck tell you to meet him? Johnny? Oh, I'll find it
- 15:43all right. Look, I think i'd better handle this alone, Jake,
- 15:48Johnny, he's being hunted by every available policeman here in Kingman. He's a
- 15:52killer. Like I told you, he got twenty thousand apiece from the Haskell
- 15:56brothers cash then took him down to the Midas touch and caved it in on
- 16:00him. All right. Even supposing that he did, why would he do
- 16:03it? And I got it? That's as obvious as those two heads you're
- 16:07wearing. The mine is worthless. How do you know? Because smarter people
- 16:11and him gave it up over twenty years ago. I thought you told me
- 16:14the your samples he brought out to say that eleven hundred dollars a ton.
- 16:17Now, look, Johnny, you know as well as I do that there's
- 16:19more ways to salt the gold mine than there's the skin of cat. Do
- 16:22you have any proof that hard Luck salted that one? No? But Tad
- 16:26Harding will Oh, Captain Tad Harding please. He hasn't lived out in this
- 16:30country all his life for nothing worse Harding now at the night's touch, when
- 16:33he gets back here, you see him, he'll show you that I'm right.
- 16:37Well, if you are, it certainly would point the finger at hard
- 16:40Luck Tennis, wouldn't. Can't you understand, Johnny? Hard Luck needed money.
- 16:45He's always needed money. He salted that mine, got sixty thousand from
- 16:48the Hassles on a lick and a promise, then caved in the mine on
- 16:52him before they could get wise to him. Good theory, we'll find it's
- 16:55the fact. That's why he skipped out as soon as he Yeah, he
- 17:00couldn't have skipped very far, could he? And if he were guilty,
- 17:04why would he want to see me? All right, Donnie, now listen
- 17:07to me. The Hassles were three of our finest citizens. So the whole
- 17:11town will cooperate with you. So don't do anything foolish like meeting that hard
- 17:17Luck Dennis alone. That willingness to cooperate includes you, Jake, you know
- 17:21it does. I'll do anything, all right, then, just give me
- 17:23your word you won't tell anyone that I'm meeting hard Luck. Well, No,
- 17:26because if you do. I'll drop this case like a hot potato.
- 17:36Wow. Okay, Johnny for the time being. Okay, I just noticed
- 17:45out the window Tad Harding's car just pulled up in front of police head for
- 17:48us. Then what are we waiting for? Let's go captain. Ted Harding
- 17:56turned out to be a tall, well built, cool headed man of about
- 17:59forty impressed me as being able to cope with any situation that might arise.
- 18:03He bore out everything Jay Kessler had told me about the Haskells and about hard
- 18:07Luck, and he added two new and very important bits of information. One
- 18:11that he'd found nothing whatsoever to indicate that the minas touch had been salted.
- 18:15On the contrary, he'd picked up some very rich chunks of ore. Two
- 18:19he'd learned the probable cause of the cave in and what it meant. He
- 18:22told it was murdered, Johnny, I told Tan Harding had found a length
- 18:26of wire rope, one end wrapped around the spool of a powerful handwinch.
- 18:30The other end had very obviously been tied around a pillar, a thick pillar
- 18:34of rock and gravel that had been dug around so as to leave support for
- 18:38the ceiling of a horizontal shaft Jake, and I walked back to his office.
- 18:44That's it, Johnny, no doubt about it, no doubt. If
- 18:48you quick turned to the handle on that winch, the pillar came down and
- 18:51the roof caved in. I'll have to admit it certainly looks that way.
- 18:56At least the company's off the hook for a million and a half of the
- 18:59insurance if we can prove that somebody operated that wench while the Haskells were down
- 19:03there. Ah, Now, look, that means finding that person. I'm
- 19:07satisfied it was murdered. Would the courts be? The court? Sure?
- 19:11When the claims on these policies are final, they'll be for three million on
- 19:15the basis of double indemnity for accidental deaths. You can bet your last penny
- 19:19on that. Claims haven't been filed yet, have they. No, Well,
- 19:23I hope we'll have time before they are time to prove it was murder
- 19:27by producing the murderer. You you still plan to see and talk to hard
- 19:34Luck Dennis? Yep alone, yep, when sometime soon, when Johnny tell
- 19:42you all about it, after I've seen him, Johnny, it's day.
- 19:45Look, if I'm going to stay at that place, you told me about
- 19:48over at Lake Mohave. I may as well go and get settled. Huh,
- 19:49how do I get there? I'll drive you over, Johnny, No
- 19:52point in that, I've got my rented car. Well, you probably want
- 19:56to be seeing the mine too. Maybe I can be of help to you.
- 20:00Maybe you just want to be present. If I happened to keep a
- 20:02date with hard Luck Tennis, now I didn't say that. He didn't need
- 20:04to, Jake. I want you to stay right here in Kingman, so
- 20:08you can keep in touch with whatever the police take up and still be in
- 20:11touch with me. There's a phone at the Lake Mohave Resort, isn't there?
- 20:14Well? Sure, john Also, don't forget that three million dollar claim
- 20:18may be filed here at your office any minute, if so, I want
- 20:21to know about it. Now, how do I get to Lake mohavee head
- 20:27east on Highway sixty eight? He said? So I did, And thirteen
- 20:32miles out of town I found the little side road yuck, a trail that
- 20:33hard Luck it described over the phone. The next mile on the quarter was
- 20:37about the worst driving I ever encountered. This was nothing but an old wagon
- 20:41trail. Several times the crank case and rare axles spread on boulders in the
- 20:45middle of it. The trailer dropped off sharply from the highway, and as
- 20:49far as I could see, there was nothing but sunbaked rock and gravel of
- 20:53the Mohave Desert, splotched here and there with withered sagebrush tumbleweed. It's a
- 20:57weirdly shaped Joshua tree, an occasional yucca plant with its stalk poking upward like
- 21:03a huge candle, and too many kinds of cactus to mention. All of
- 21:07it surrounded by bleak needles and crags of rock, by high plateaus and masons.
- 21:11The going got so bad I almost decided to get out and walk when
- 21:15I spotted the old miner shack that hard Luck had named as our meeting place.
- 21:19As I approached it, I could see no sign of life around it.
- 21:26Hello, anybody here? I like, Dennis? Hello, nothing,
- 21:44no one, no sign of life at all. Huh. The sudden movement
- 21:49at the corner of the shack was nothing but an ancient desert turtle plotting at
- 21:52what he probably thought was breakneck speed toward a shady spot under his sagebrush.
- 22:00Oh hi, love, anyone inside there? Mm hmmmm, Wow, that's
- 22:19not what I should have looked around back of this tack, right, gold
- 22:22Big tracing me dead? Hard Luck? Dolly? Yes, yeah, come
- 22:29along. Like I said, I don't see anybody else around in real stir
- 22:33down. I don't move nogain, that's smile. Sit down there on that
- 22:40bitch. Sure, what's this all about, hard Luck? I didn't do
- 22:45it, That's what it's all about. I didn't do it. I didn't
- 22:48kill l ashkool boy. If you understand that, I didn't think you did.
- 22:52Why not? Because if you had, I think you would have skipped
- 22:55the country. You wouldn't have asked me to come here and talk to you.
- 22:57That's right, that's right. Are you just trying to soften me up?
- 23:02How much point in that is there? With you holding a gun on
- 23:03me? If you didn't do it, hard Luck, why don't you go
- 23:07to the police in Kingman and tell him that I wouldn't have a chance jury
- 23:11anything else. Whole town's against me. They made up the mine. I
- 23:15did it so the best lawyer in the country couldn't see me. Apparently the
- 23:17whole town thought a lot of the hask A brother. Surely they had fine
- 23:19men that's why I picked him to share the mine with me. The only
- 23:22reason you picked them was because they had money. And you know it,
- 23:25yea like all the rest. Didn't you see the or they took out of
- 23:29the miner's touch. I heard about it, rich rich or twelve fifteen hundred
- 23:33dollars a ton, And I didn't plan it there. It's been there all
- 23:34the time. Even Captain Harden couldn't find where I sorted it because I didn't.
- 23:38Oh, you know that he was out there, Sure I do.
- 23:41I know everything that goes on in his desert. All right. Then,
- 23:44look suppose you put down that gun and tell me what happened the day the
- 23:48mine caved in on the hask you bet, I'll tell you. That's why
- 23:49I court you, But I won't put down this gun until I'm sure you're
- 23:52on my side. And then waving in some other direct you want to hear
- 23:56what I gotta say it and sit still and listen to me. First,
- 23:57tell me this was it murder? It was murder? Then by my head?
- 24:04Then who did it? You know? Yes, yes, I know
- 24:07they wanted to see the mine again. It's more samples. That was last
- 24:11Friday there the Caven yeah. So I took them down there, gave them
- 24:15a pick, showed them where to chip it off down on the second level.
- 24:18But then I left them there for a minute. I heard a car,
- 24:21heard a car pull up, so I went back out, went back
- 24:23to see who it was. The one's supposed to be anybody around that mine.
- 24:26I hadn't posted, but I'd heard this car pull up. Hub or
- 24:30go on go on? So I left the hassles below and wind that in
- 24:34a hurry. I went, no time for my eyes to get juice to
- 24:37the bright sunlight outside. All I saw was the car. When I stuck
- 24:41my head out, That's when it hit me. What do I mean when
- 24:44what hits Hurraha club or something? I knocked me out When I come to
- 24:48the cave and was all over. The haskeles were dead in there, and
- 24:52I knew what everybody would think, So I let out, stayed in the
- 24:55desert. What do you know? Who it was? Who hits you?
- 24:56Row by the car? The same one that made the key in ho dollar
- 25:02it listen, that's somebody coming out there. You cheated me, you brought
- 25:07her? No, No, I did not hard luck get away from my
- 25:11dark got hard luck hard Luck. Yeah, I guess they named you right.
- 25:41Now, here's our star to tell you about tomorrow's intriguing episode of this
- 25:45week story. Tomorrow, the so called Trackless Desert yields a set of tracks
- 25:49that lead straight to But if I told you you'd know, wouldn't you?
- 25:53So join us? Won't you? Yours Truly Johnny Dollar? Yours Truly Johnny
- 26:12Dollar, starring Bob Bailey is transcribed in Hollywood. It is produced and directed
- 26:18by Jack Johnstone, who also wrote this week's story. Be sure to join
- 26:22us one all night, same time in station for the next exciting episode of
- 26:26Yours Truly Johnny Dollar. Roy Rowan speaking way, welcome back. Well.
- 28:06Hard Luck makes that fatal mistake of being a typical mystery character who just refuses
- 28:14to reveal what he knows about the murder until it's too late. Smart witnesses
- 28:21should go ahead and tell them who did it first and explain the watts later.
- 28:26But that leaves definite mystery for Johnny. There are a few things I
- 28:30think that we're someone interesting in Pat McCracken, of course, who believes that
- 28:40he can just interrupt Johnny's vacation usually can get away with it. For money.
- 28:45You know, of course, Johnny's free lance, so doesn't technically have
- 28:49to do any specific work, but Pat McCracken, such a forceful personality,
- 28:56can drive him from over the phone. There were a couple of I also
- 29:00liked. One thing I really liked about this episode was the descriptions of the
- 29:04area. Just beautiful descriptions. And it's possible, very possible that Jack Johnstone,
- 29:15the writer, was very familiar with this area. You know, this
- 29:18of course being written by someone who lived in California. And perhaps the most
- 29:26important thing that happened in this particular episode was that we got introduced to Johnny's
- 29:37passion of fishing, which I think is a key characterization thing. It's something
- 29:41that writers are taught all the time, and to give your characters things to
- 29:45do that are outside of the plot, it makes them seem it makes them
- 29:52seem like they are real, living, breathing people. And oftentimes when detectors
- 30:00do things, it's merely a contrivance. They go scheme so they can get
- 30:04into a scheme murder, They'll go fishing, They'll get into a phishing murder
- 30:07case with Johnny. Well, of course, there'll be a lot of cases
- 30:11around fishing. It is a definite passion and I loved it when Johnny was
- 30:17like, who I'm getting tired of fishing. I don't see how that's passible.
- 30:22I mean, really, that gives them such just such a great actor
- 30:26and character and such a great attribute. That's really going to serve the series.
- 30:32Well all right, well that will do it for today. We will
- 30:34be back tomorrow with our first episode of the Casebook of Gregory Hood, and
