Transcript
- 0:20Speaker 1: What's going on Hurdler's Emily Abadi.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Here you are listening to another installment of five Minutes
- 0:27Speaker 2: Friday from Hurdle. I am so happy to be here
- 0:31Speaker 2: in the studio recording this. I had an opportunity to
- 0:36Speaker 2: stay overseas abroad in between these two work trips that
- 0:40Speaker 2: I have on deck. Well, I guess I just finished one.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I have one more that I'm leaving for on Monday.
- 0:45Speaker 2: And to be completely candid, I was just so looking
- 0:50Speaker 2: forward to having a week of sleeping in my own bed.
- 0:53Speaker 2: It really helps me to reset and repack and have
- 1:00Speaker 2: a little bit of time in my own space. I
- 1:04Speaker 2: talked a little bit about this on Instagram earlier this week,
- 1:07Speaker 2: and I got a DM asking me to talk about
- 1:10Speaker 2: what giving back to myself looks like when I feel
- 1:13Speaker 2: like I'm a little bit overwhelmed and for sure stressed,
- 1:18Speaker 2: and so I figure that that's what I want to
- 1:19Speaker 2: talk about today. For me, this looks like really prioritizing
- 1:24Speaker 2: what feels good. For Emily, that question is one that
- 1:27Speaker 2: I have been answering time and time again this year.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I'm a huge giver, not only to this community, which
- 1:35Speaker 2: it brings me so much joy to do that but
- 1:37Speaker 2: also to people that I care about, And in doing
- 1:41Speaker 2: that sometimes I have really put my needs on the
- 1:46Speaker 2: back burner. When I don't have a lot of time
- 1:50Speaker 2: for myself. I know what I need to prioritize, and
- 1:54Speaker 2: that is giving back to Emily, because I know that
- 1:57Speaker 2: by giving back to myself what feels good for Emily,
- 2:01Speaker 2: that I can then show up for the people that
- 2:02Speaker 2: I care about. So this week, in practice, what does
- 2:05Speaker 2: what looks good for Emily look like? It looks like
- 2:08Speaker 2: planning things out to take care of myself, and that's
- 2:11Speaker 2: a range of different things. It's when I'm gonna move
- 2:15Speaker 2: my body, what that looks like, how far I'm going
- 2:18Speaker 2: to run, maybe what I'm going to wear when I'm
- 2:20Speaker 2: gonna do it, so I can take some of the
- 2:21Speaker 2: decision fatigue out of the mix. It's who do I
- 2:24Speaker 2: want to spend my time with? Who is an energy
- 2:27Speaker 2: faucet instead of an energy drain. It's thinking ahead to
- 2:31Speaker 2: what I might need when I travel again next week,
- 2:33Speaker 2: and how I can make preparing for that effort feel
- 2:37Speaker 2: a little bit less stressful and candidly, it's coming back
- 2:41Speaker 2: to my mindfulness practice. I have a lot of things
- 2:45Speaker 2: that I'm trying to squeeze into a small amount of time.
- 2:48Speaker 2: So I'm asking myself, how can I come back to
- 2:51Speaker 2: come between interviews and recordings and all of this movement
- 2:56Speaker 2: and appointments. And you get the idea, right, And so
- 3:00Speaker 2: this morning on the subway, I sat there for ten
- 3:04Speaker 2: minutes and I did an open breathwork meditation. If you
- 3:07Speaker 2: haven't tried open yet, I've got thirty days free for you.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Head on over to with open. That's whopn dot com
- 3:16Speaker 2: slash hurdle.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Trust me, you won't regret it. It's free.
- 3:19Speaker 2: So yeah, that's how I give back to me and
- 3:22Speaker 2: really thinking about the things that bring me joy and
- 3:24Speaker 2: how I can indulge in some of those things. This week,
- 3:28Speaker 2: I know that three of my closest friends have a
- 3:31Speaker 2: birthday this coming Monday, actually Nicole, Carly, Molly, Happy Birthday,
- 3:37Speaker 2: and I want to see them if I can. So
- 3:39Speaker 2: figuring out how to do that, how to spend time
- 3:42Speaker 2: with the people that I care about, scheduling in other
- 3:44Speaker 2: self care like a facial and turning down things that
- 3:47Speaker 2: don't serve me. I was invited to a lot of
- 3:49Speaker 2: events oddly at the end of this week, and I
- 3:52Speaker 2: made the decision that there were just other things that
- 3:55Speaker 2: made more sense, and that's okay. And when I have
- 3:58Speaker 2: a little bit more bandwidth, I'll go to the events,
- 4:01Speaker 2: just not these ones. And the last thing I'll say
- 4:04Speaker 2: on this note is that it also comes into play
- 4:07Speaker 2: who you spend your energy on in terms of communication.
- 4:10Speaker 2: If there is a friendship or relationship or a situationship
- 4:13Speaker 2: or whatever you have going on in your life, that
- 4:15Speaker 2: does feel like an energy drain and you don't have
- 4:18Speaker 2: a lot of time to give extra energy into the
- 4:21Speaker 2: world at this moment. It's okay to be a little selfish,
- 4:25Speaker 2: trust me, it really is. So I'm going to ask
- 4:28Speaker 2: you this week this week's listener prompt, what can you
- 4:33Speaker 2: do for yourself when you're feeling a little bit stressed?
- 4:36Speaker 2: How can you show up for yourself and focus on
- 4:41Speaker 2: giving back to make you feel like you're best you?
- 4:45Speaker 2: And now a listener question.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Hi, Emily, this is Manica. I am getting ready to
- 4:51Speaker 3: run my first marathon and I kind of had the
- 4:55Speaker 3: sport brought figure out already, but on these are something
- 4:58Speaker 3: that I have in.
- 4:58Speaker 1: A big trouble with.
- 5:00Speaker 3: So do you have any any go to that you like?
- 5:05Speaker 3: Maybe the fabric or specific brands or something that is
- 5:09Speaker 3: comfortable for like twenty plus mile. I will love your
- 5:13Speaker 3: feedback towards that topic. Thank you so much, Have a
- 5:17Speaker 3: great weekend.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Okay. Underwear is a very personal preference.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I used to religiously, religiously wear the Woman's Underarmor pure
- 5:27Speaker 2: stretch thong. You can buy it like in a three pack.
- 5:30Speaker 2: It's literally like twenty dollars for three pairs. That used
- 5:33Speaker 2: to be my go to. That and the Lululemon Underreas
- 5:37Speaker 2: mid Rise thong underwear. I'm a thong underwear wearer, but
- 5:43Speaker 2: I would be remiss if I didn't admit that as
- 5:45Speaker 2: of the last year, I haven't been wearing underwear with
- 5:49Speaker 2: my spandex, which I remember when I was younger, I
- 5:52Speaker 2: had friends that told me this and I was like,
- 5:54Speaker 2: you are absolutely crazy. I would never feel comfortable doing that.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And this is just a new phase that I've entered.
- 6:00Speaker 2: So those are my two go tos. Those are the
- 6:02Speaker 2: ones that I would recommend, And just like anything else,
- 6:07Speaker 2: make sure that this is something that you experiment with,
- 6:09Speaker 2: not just a pair of underwear that you're going to
- 6:10Speaker 2: go run a five k in and be like, oh,
- 6:12Speaker 2: this feels good. Where whatever you are wearing for a
- 6:16Speaker 2: long run. Two three, as much as you can to
- 6:20Speaker 2: make sure that you feel comfortable in it and it
- 6:21Speaker 2: doesn't cause any unnecessary shaf thing.
- 6:25Speaker 1: That's it for this week.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Make sure you're following along with hurdle over on social
- 6:28Speaker 2: It's at Hurdle podcast, I'm over at Emily a Body,
- 6:32Speaker 2: another hurdle conquered.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Catch y'all next time.
