Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, Well, we thought here Ryan Pagano, Lou Terminello,
- 0:04Speaker 1: Terminello's take, PAGs perspective, and I we all love the
- 0:06Speaker 1: nick snapping their fifty three year drought would be, you know, the.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Biggest you guys love that.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I didn't biggest sports news of the summer, and it
- 0:16Speaker 1: still is, trust me.
- 0:17Speaker 2: But we thought it'd be the only boy were we wrong?
- 0:20Speaker 1: Because that's not the only news that's happening in New
- 0:22Speaker 1: York City, Lou Urminello. In the NBA world, we're all
- 0:25Speaker 1: following the Gianna situation being traded, and of course here
- 0:28Speaker 1: in New York we're following Carlos Mendoza's relief. And I
- 0:34Speaker 1: told you guys, now, Lou's gonna make fun of me
- 0:36Speaker 1: for this. I said, before Mendoza ever took the team
- 0:39Speaker 1: down the canadon of heroes, he'd be painhandling down the
- 0:42Speaker 1: cannon of heros first. Sure enough, he got fired just
- 0:46Speaker 1: after the national embarrassment against the Phills last week, the
- 0:49Speaker 1: nine error series against the Cubs. This was coming, wasn't it. Now?
- 0:52Speaker 1: It could be escapegoat moon as move as well. Terminilo's
- 0:55Speaker 1: take your first take.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Alex, thanks for having me first of all. This is
- 1:04Speaker 2: not on Mendoza. He was stuck with one of the
- 1:09Speaker 2: worst rosters in met history, poorly constructed by boy wonder
- 1:16Speaker 2: David Stern's which all of the media, all of the
- 1:19Speaker 2: gas bags on ESPN and on MLB network. I was
- 1:24Speaker 2: saying that this guy was going to be the messiah
- 1:28Speaker 2: for the Mets issues. Alex, I don't believe he can
- 1:31Speaker 2: he can run a big market team. Yeah, he spent
- 1:34Speaker 2: David Stern's money. He spent it incorrectly, and you know,
- 1:39Speaker 2: he's made He's done what what most guys in his
- 1:45Speaker 2: situation will do. He's making somebody else escapegoat. I actually
- 1:49Speaker 2: think this brings more attention to him for his failures.
- 1:54Speaker 1: You know the funny part is, Guys, this is fascinating
- 1:56Speaker 1: to me because Mets twenty twenty four his first season,
- 2:01Speaker 1: I believe as a manager and every thought, oh my god,
- 2:03Speaker 1: with a disaster. He willed that team. So I think
- 2:06Speaker 1: Mendoz is a really good manager. I just think he
- 2:09Speaker 1: was forced to the destructive roster right now, a deconstructed roster,
- 2:14Speaker 1: and let me get practice perspective as in this as well,
- 2:18Speaker 1: aj Ewing Carson bench in that lineup with Nimo and Alonso.
- 2:22Speaker 1: That would have been special to see, wouldn't it have?
- 2:26Speaker 3: We're the would have, could have should have game. You
- 2:29Speaker 3: just gotta love it. But really the woulda could have
- 2:32Speaker 3: should have game, that's a perfect term to describe the
- 2:36Speaker 3: twenty twenty six Mets season thus far. Would have, could have,
- 2:40Speaker 3: should have. It's just been a recurring theme. What if
- 2:44Speaker 3: David Stearns' offseason acquisitions actually worked out? What if they
- 2:49Speaker 3: kept the homegrown stars around? What if they kept around
- 2:51Speaker 3: Nemo and Alonso, pair them with benj and Ewing, maybe
- 2:56Speaker 3: perhaps Ryan Clifford inevitably when he's ready to come up,
- 2:59Speaker 3: and I don't know, that would have been not just
- 3:01Speaker 3: entertaining to see, but also from a Mets historian perspective,
- 3:06Speaker 3: it just would have been really fun to kind of
- 3:09Speaker 3: see that bridge, if you will, loan the home grown
- 3:12Speaker 3: stars of the past and the home grown stars of
- 3:15Speaker 3: the future. Unfortunately, just not the case, and it's just
- 3:19Speaker 3: backfiring on David Stearns in the worst possible way. That
- 3:24Speaker 3: only could be rivaled by Alva Azen back in nineteen
- 3:30Speaker 3: ninety two with the original worst team money could buy it.
- 3:34Speaker 3: And I have to specify original because this twenty twenty
- 3:37Speaker 3: sixth group. As much as I hate to say it,
- 3:39Speaker 3: certainly given nineteen ninety two a run for its money.
- 3:41Speaker 2: All Right, lou, I only think i'll say about that.
- 3:44Speaker 2: The other thing I'll say about that Ryan, at least
- 3:47Speaker 2: the previous eight years leading into the early nineties, the
- 3:51Speaker 2: Mets had the best record in baseball. Yes, they only
- 3:53Speaker 2: won one World Championship, but they won more games than
- 3:56Speaker 2: anybody in baseball the last eight years for the Mets.
- 3:59Speaker 2: This time, that's that, that's not going to be the same.
- 4:02Speaker 1: What is He's sort of like you. He knows the nostalgia.
- 4:05Speaker 1: And by the way, he was only born in two
- 4:06Speaker 1: thousand and one, so he's got a pretty young two
- 4:09Speaker 1: thousand and two, a pretty young mind.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Well, I like people, I like sports fans who look
- 4:17Speaker 2: back at history before they were born. I do that
- 4:19Speaker 2: all the time. I did that all the time when
- 4:21Speaker 2: I was younger. So I give Ryan a lot of
- 4:24Speaker 2: credit for knowing the history, not only of the teams
- 4:28Speaker 2: you root for or support, just just in general. Yeah,
- 4:32Speaker 2: you know, I know that, But really.
- 4:34Speaker 1: As winning ninety three, right, that's that's a common fact
- 4:38Speaker 1: that the Knicks and not winning nineteen ninety three.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Despite that, that's correct. Please will you tell Governor Hokell
- 4:43Speaker 2: that the Knicks not win in nineteen ninety three?
- 4:45Speaker 1: All right, I got on a more serious note though,
- 4:48Speaker 1: so he he explodes that he just deconstructs the roster.
- 4:52Speaker 1: But if you listen back to any of the Terminello's
- 4:54Speaker 1: takes when Sterns was being hired, you warned all about
- 4:58Speaker 1: all of us about this lily.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Well again even in January this year when when he
- 5:06Speaker 2: was putting this horrible roster together. We commented on it
- 5:09Speaker 2: in January, and you know, you you put you combine
- 5:13Speaker 2: that the getting rid of Alonso, in my opinion, one
- 5:17Speaker 2: of besides trading Tom Seaver, probably the one of the
- 5:23Speaker 2: worst uh non signings in that's history. If you want
- 5:28Speaker 2: to put Strawberry there, you can. But that was more
- 5:31Speaker 2: Strawberry had to go. You know, he had his issues.
- 5:34Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, and Strawberry now says, you know, because
- 5:42Speaker 2: he had an addiction issue, you know, said that was
- 5:44Speaker 2: the worst mistake I ever made, you know, leaving. But
- 5:47Speaker 2: again that life happens. But you put together this roster,
- 5:54Speaker 2: they had too many of the same guys or playing
- 5:56Speaker 2: out a position, and you combine that with all the
- 6:02Speaker 2: injuries they've had. You know, with Toto, they're thirty one
- 6:06Speaker 2: and thirty one, and in this day and age, thirty
- 6:08Speaker 2: one and thirty one, five hundred puts you in the
- 6:12Speaker 2: playoff race because you know, you know you have a chance.
- 6:15Speaker 1: To instead Jared Young, right, who's in the.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Well and Jarrett Young has done a good job for
- 6:21Speaker 2: what Jarrett Young does. They're three and sixteen without without
- 6:27Speaker 2: Sodo tells you how tells you how good Soda was
- 6:30Speaker 2: right there. They've only had Bashett, Lindor and Solo together
- 6:36Speaker 2: nine games all year, so Mendoza had his three best
- 6:41Speaker 2: players for total of nine games. Freddy Peralta, who I
- 6:46Speaker 2: always thought was okay, I never I mean he had
- 6:49Speaker 2: to me, I know, wow factor. I think he was
- 6:52Speaker 2: a third last year in the SYNG voting. Good for him,
- 6:57Speaker 2: he's been he's been bad. They'll trade him by trade
- 7:00Speaker 2: deadline and hopefully they get a prospect that'll contribute. I
- 7:04Speaker 2: don't know now.
- 7:06Speaker 1: What I'm interested to see is you know what I'm
- 7:08Speaker 1: thinking is and I talked to Ryan about this earlier.
- 7:12Speaker 1: You should have just followed line with the Phillies and
- 7:13Speaker 1: the Red Sox if you knew this was gonna happen
- 7:15Speaker 1: at some point. Pull the trigger at uh, pull the trigger,
- 7:20Speaker 1: you know when these other teams did not in the
- 7:23Speaker 1: middle of at the end of June, when it's pretty
- 7:25Speaker 1: much done. I don't know it.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Just when you're twelve games under five that rubs.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Me the wrong way.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Okay, like it's almost like the uh really Randolph firing,
- 7:34Speaker 1: even though it was more dramatic, but yeah, they were
- 7:37Speaker 1: out of it than too, and they fired him.
- 7:39Speaker 3: But also, to oh waits credit, they were only I
- 7:41Speaker 3: believe a game under five hundred when they pulled the
- 7:44Speaker 3: plug on Randolph and all.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Now, well they got I get yeah, I remember, but
- 7:48Speaker 2: rand they lost the playoffs spot on the last day
- 7:51Speaker 2: of the season, so they were in it all summer.
- 7:54Speaker 2: I mean, this team was seven and four and then
- 7:56Speaker 2: lost twelve games in a row. And remember Soto missed
- 7:59Speaker 2: all twelve of those game that they lost. H Yeah,
- 8:04Speaker 2: they could have done it then. You know. Obviously everybody
- 8:07Speaker 2: was shocked when Alex Cora was fired. The Phillies had
- 8:13Speaker 2: the Phillies when they fired Thompson, that was not a
- 8:17Speaker 2: head scratcher because, unlike the Mets, when a lot of
- 8:20Speaker 2: guys hurt the Phillies had nobody hurt. They were just
- 8:23Speaker 2: playing lousy again. I don't know if if Thompson had
- 8:27Speaker 2: stayed as manager at the Phillies would have gone thirty
- 8:29Speaker 2: six and seventeen like they've had the last fifty three.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I don't know. But the Phillies have a very good team.
- 8:34Speaker 2: They have a very good pitching staff. They have a
- 8:36Speaker 2: great closer and the guy pitching tonight, the former Met
- 8:40Speaker 2: that wanted to come back to the Mets. He took
- 8:42Speaker 2: the eighteen year excuse me, the eighteen million dollar contract,
- 8:46Speaker 2: the five year deal that the Phillies offered him back
- 8:48Speaker 2: to Wilpond. This was Remember this was a year before
- 8:51Speaker 2: Willpon sold And you want to an eighteen million dollars
- 8:55Speaker 2: is nothing, especially now, which is almost Yeah, it is ridiculous.
- 9:00Speaker 1: More success, I mean he was great as a Met,
- 9:02Speaker 1: I thought, but he has had more success with the Phillies.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Well, he's gotten better.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Well, they did not, and look to Wheeler's credit, he
- 9:10Speaker 3: pitched well on the Mets, there's no denying that part.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Did he pitch like a cy young candidate though for
- 9:16Speaker 3: the Blue and Orange? Absolutely not. And when we look
- 9:19Speaker 3: back in five or so years. When his career comes
- 9:22Speaker 3: to a close, we're all gonna remember him as a
- 9:24Speaker 3: Philadelphia Affilly, more likely than not, just based off of
- 9:27Speaker 3: the amount of success he had there alone, the fact
- 9:29Speaker 3: that he was able to make help his group in
- 9:32Speaker 3: twenty twenty two to the World Series in a year
- 9:36Speaker 3: where there was a very competitive National League Eastern Division.
- 9:39Speaker 3: But then also they were the perfect Cinderell underdog to
- 9:44Speaker 3: root for. I mean, even as a fan of a
- 9:46Speaker 3: division rival, I could somehow safely say that. But you
- 9:51Speaker 3: also have to give credit to the Phills where it's due,
- 9:54Speaker 3: because they knew the timing was right to pull the
- 9:57Speaker 3: plug on Girardi back in twenty two, replace him with
- 10:01Speaker 3: Rob Thompson back then, and really the same thing this season.
- 10:04Speaker 3: They knew when the time was right to just pull
- 10:07Speaker 3: the cord on Rob Thompson. Thank you for your service
- 10:10Speaker 3: to this great organization, but we're replacing you with Don
- 10:13Speaker 3: Mattigley and turn up. It has given them the jolt
- 10:17Speaker 3: that they needed. And when he was fired, I was
- 10:19Speaker 3: very same with Alexqurett two. When both of them were gone,
- 10:23Speaker 3: I was very surprised that Mendoza was not one to
- 10:26Speaker 3: follow because Rice was also right after the twelve games.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Yankee Stadium when I saw Cork go fire or wherever
- 10:32Speaker 1: I was, I remember, It's like, wow, cork got fired
- 10:35Speaker 1: and they they just won the debt that day, which
- 10:37Speaker 1: is even more interesting. But let me ask you, guys
- 10:39Speaker 1: this the David Peterson trades. You say, Ryan is not
- 10:43Speaker 1: gonna be the only one that we see, So let
- 10:45Speaker 1: me get lose all take on that two. Is this
- 10:48Speaker 1: gonna be a fire sale? Are they going to trade?
- 10:49Speaker 2: Said?
- 10:50Speaker 1: Who are they gonna trade? Now?
- 10:51Speaker 2: Louis Well, I mean, I'll tell you the two guys
- 10:54Speaker 2: who they can get the most for is Luke Weaver
- 10:59Speaker 2: and Devin william I mean, Weaver's been spectacular, not good.
- 11:04Speaker 2: He's been spectacular. It's a shame that that the Mets
- 11:07Speaker 2: aren't in it. This is probably as good as he's
- 11:10Speaker 2: ever pitched. So people are gonna call wonder boy Sterns
- 11:16Speaker 2: about him. And with the exception of that one game
- 11:20Speaker 2: where he gave up four runs with no without recording
- 11:23Speaker 2: and out, and there was one other bad game, Williams
- 11:27Speaker 2: has been very good. And there's a shorte of pitching,
- 11:30Speaker 2: there's a shorte of relief pitching. So I think they'll
- 11:34Speaker 2: be calling the Mets possibly for them. But Williams has,
- 11:39Speaker 2: you know, make seventeen million dollars a year and has
- 11:41Speaker 2: two years left on his deal. Weaver has one year
- 11:43Speaker 2: left on his deal. I would not trade either one
- 11:46Speaker 2: of them. These are the guys I would dump, and
- 11:49Speaker 2: I know you can't get a lot of a lot
- 11:50Speaker 2: for them in return. Mark Fiandos, he had a very
- 11:55Speaker 2: good year two years ago, which was really his first,
- 11:58Speaker 2: his first full year. His body language stinks. He can't
- 12:03Speaker 2: hit right handed pitching. He hits left handed pitching very well.
- 12:06Speaker 2: He can't what's his position? If you said to me,
- 12:10Speaker 2: who would you if you have to keep one of
- 12:12Speaker 2: these two on the roster, Vientos or or Baby, who's
- 12:16Speaker 2: been a disappointment. I still think you probably might get long,
- 12:20Speaker 2: you might get lucky, and Baby might develop into the
- 12:24Speaker 2: player we thought he was going to be. I would
- 12:26Speaker 2: get rid, I would get rid of I get rid
- 12:29Speaker 2: of Vientos. They're gonna have to eat Simeon's contract, and
- 12:35Speaker 2: you talk about one of the worst trades in Mets history.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Not so much that Brandon Nemo is tearing up the
- 12:43Speaker 2: American League. He's not, but he's he should still be
- 12:46Speaker 2: on the Mets, or if the Mets were going to
- 12:48Speaker 2: trade him, they needed to trade him for somebody who
- 12:53Speaker 2: Toll League knows was washed up. Marcus Simeon is washed up,
- 12:59Speaker 2: and the Mets have him for another two years after
- 13:01Speaker 2: this one that he was supposed to and uh tighten
- 13:05Speaker 2: the defense, and he did up until the last week.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Now we find out that he's playing with an injury
- 13:10Speaker 2: and now he's on He's on the UH on the
- 13:12Speaker 2: I L. But he can't be the Mets second basement
- 13:16Speaker 2: going forward. Uh, Steve Comin' is gonna have to eat
- 13:19Speaker 2: that money, Lewis, Robert I told you in January. This
- 13:23Speaker 2: is I mean, this is no surprise. Yeah, he he
- 13:26Speaker 2: hit thirty eight home runs a couple of years ago.
- 13:28Speaker 2: But he's got a bad back. He's always injured. They're
- 13:31Speaker 2: gonna have to eat that money. You have to again,
- 13:37Speaker 2: you can't. You can't in New York coaches, you and me, Louis.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Now, let me ask you this, the bechet rumors true false?
- 13:48Speaker 1: What are we thinking as far as as far as
- 13:53Speaker 1: does he really want to opt out or is that.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Just Alex He has a one year he has a
- 13:59Speaker 2: even though he had a three year deal. He has
- 14:01Speaker 2: a one year deal. He's been he unless he bats
- 14:06Speaker 2: two twenty and he's been coming on. He's opting out.
- 14:10Speaker 2: I'm telling you right now, Cody Bellenser, I believe has
- 14:12Speaker 2: an opt out after his next year. He's opting out.
- 14:17Speaker 2: These guys are opting But the only thing that might
- 14:19Speaker 2: change that, there's one factor that might change that moving
- 14:23Speaker 2: forward that in the past all these guys opted out.
- 14:26Speaker 2: We don't know what the new collective bargaining agreement's going
- 14:29Speaker 2: to look like. The owners don't want any more these
- 14:34Speaker 2: fifteen year deals or twelve year deals or ten year deals.
- 14:37Speaker 2: They want to do what the NHL did in the
- 14:39Speaker 2: last collective bargain agreement starting this year. In the NHL
- 14:43Speaker 2: after July first, the longest contract I believe is seven years,
- 14:49Speaker 2: so I know that in the latest proposal the Major
- 14:52Speaker 2: league owners want to limit that to five or six years.
- 14:57Speaker 2: So they all opt and I don't know.
- 14:59Speaker 1: People are on the MLBPA Instagram, but they've been sharing
- 15:03Speaker 1: their side.
- 15:03Speaker 2: It looks like it's getting pretty ugly, and we're not
- 15:05Speaker 2: even it is. Yeah, it's it's getting pretty ugly. So
- 15:10Speaker 2: that might change. All these guys from moping out because
- 15:13Speaker 2: they may not get the long term forty five million
- 15:17Speaker 2: dollar deal at now.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Is that why they locked up the young kids in Detroit? Uh,
- 15:22Speaker 1: locking up their kid and then Griffin in uh, Pirate
- 15:25Speaker 1: in the in Pittsburgh. They're locking up now because they
- 15:28Speaker 1: know it could be different next year. Is that what
- 15:30Speaker 1: the reasoning is?
- 15:31Speaker 2: Well, it could be. I mean the Brave did that
- 15:33Speaker 2: a couple of years ago with with a you know,
- 15:36Speaker 2: Ronald Couna junior, and that was a smart move. And
- 15:40Speaker 2: I think they did that. They might have done that
- 15:42Speaker 2: with Alvis. I'm not sure. I think they did it
- 15:46Speaker 2: with a couple of their pictures. Yeah, that's a smart move.
- 15:50Speaker 2: You're basically giving them term, but you're getting a yearly
- 15:54Speaker 2: average discount on what you're paying these guys. So again
- 15:58Speaker 2: that that's the only thing we don't know about to
- 16:00Speaker 2: opt out. But if everything stays the same, all these
- 16:03Speaker 2: guys who have opt outs, unless they they are batting
- 16:06Speaker 2: two ten, Uh, they're all opting out.
- 16:09Speaker 1: They are see that'll be a big free agent market.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Then if that's the case, all right, Uh, let's switch
- 16:17Speaker 1: gears for a moment. I mean, the Yanks are going
- 16:19Speaker 1: to be steady I know they lost yesterday. I don't
- 16:21Speaker 1: know if feel like talking about them, because what you're
- 16:23Speaker 1: passionate about is what the Islanders did today. And when
- 16:27Speaker 1: I saw that anders Lee. You know, I don't know
- 16:31Speaker 1: if this signing bumps out enders Lee, but Lou, if
- 16:35Speaker 1: they don't resign anders Lee, that that I'd be very sad.
- 16:37Speaker 1: He needs to be brought back. In addition to Tony
- 16:39Speaker 1: Deally Angelo right.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Alex, I love anders Lee. He was an outstanding on
- 16:45Speaker 2: Islander and uh is Ryan alf Ryan is still on
- 16:49Speaker 2: the line or not, But uh, unless it's a one
- 16:55Speaker 2: year deal, I think we see the end of anders Lee.
- 17:01Speaker 2: I mean they, I really do. He was a terrific Islander,
- 17:04Speaker 2: but this is a business. They signed Tommy DiAngelo two years,
- 17:09Speaker 2: nine million, four point five million a year for the
- 17:13Speaker 2: next two years. He's a right handed defense in which
- 17:15Speaker 2: the league has a shortage of He had did a
- 17:18Speaker 2: very good job list with the Islanders or in a
- 17:21Speaker 2: league where you need as many puck moving defensemen out
- 17:24Speaker 2: of your ends as possible. And I think we've seen again.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I could be wrong, because the Islanders' cap space is
- 17:34Speaker 2: not unlimited. It's limited, and I think you might see
- 17:39Speaker 2: the end of anders Lee as as an Islander.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Well, they had their time times with him, they had
- 17:47Speaker 1: their changes with him, that's for sure. And of course
- 17:49Speaker 1: one of the things I always say is if he
- 17:50Speaker 1: was healthy during any of those Cup runs, they would
- 17:53Speaker 1: have won the Cup with him. Just unfortunate because the
- 17:56Speaker 1: injury hit him and it just.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Yeah, the when when he broke his uh, you know,
- 18:03Speaker 2: when he broke his fuller, broke his ankle and miscos
- 18:06Speaker 2: in that playoff that was the second year they were
- 18:10Speaker 2: in a conference fall in most game set in the
- 18:11Speaker 2: Tampa Yeah, they would have beat they would have beaten
- 18:15Speaker 2: Montreal probably in five games, and he would have been uh,
- 18:20Speaker 2: the commissioner would have been would have been handing Andrews
- 18:23Speaker 2: lead at Stanley Cup.
- 18:24Speaker 1: But is this signing effect?
- 18:26Speaker 2: You know?
- 18:26Speaker 1: Obviously last year the NHL draft went to the Islanders
- 18:29Speaker 1: and they got the king of the crop with Matt Schaeffer.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I don't know, is McKenna the next big one to
- 18:35Speaker 1: get drafted tonight? Is that who everybody's eyes are on.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Well, let's see either McKenna, who I think that the
- 18:40Speaker 2: least will pick. He's Canadian is Toronto a Stenberg, the
- 18:46Speaker 2: Swedish kid who can play left wing or right wing.
- 18:50Speaker 2: And I've seen him play a little, but i've seen
- 18:52Speaker 2: McKenna play. But I saw Stenberg in the World's Championships
- 18:56Speaker 2: about a month ago. Alex he put a move on
- 19:00Speaker 2: and you know he's playing against men that was NHL worthy.
- 19:04Speaker 2: So they're gonna they'll probably be drafted in the top
- 19:08Speaker 2: top four, top two. The mckennae will probably go one,
- 19:13Speaker 2: Stenburgh will go two. They're saying that there could be
- 19:16Speaker 2: a defenseman that goes too, to San Jose. I don't
- 19:19Speaker 2: think so. Buffalo is looking for a defenseman at four.
- 19:22Speaker 2: The Rangers pick five. I don't think the Rangers are
- 19:26Speaker 2: trading that pick. Maybe they'll trade the second pick in
- 19:29Speaker 2: the first round, the twenty six pick. You know, there's
- 19:32Speaker 2: a rumor going around that that they might trade the
- 19:35Speaker 2: twenty sixth pick in Lonfournier for Mason McTavish, a twenty
- 19:40Speaker 2: three year old that plays for the Ducks. I don't know.
- 19:44Speaker 2: I don't know if that's the smartest thing to do
- 19:48Speaker 2: or not, but there's gonna be There's gonna be a
- 19:51Speaker 2: lot of movement. Does Austin Matthews get traded in the
- 19:54Speaker 2: next week before the July, first free agency period starts.
- 20:00Speaker 2: We've already seen, We've already seen potential free agents taken
- 20:05Speaker 2: off the board. Alex Tuck, his rights were traded to
- 20:09Speaker 2: the Capitals. They quickly signed him to an eight year deal.
- 20:15Speaker 2: The same thing with Jordan Cairo of the Saint Louis Blues,
- 20:18Speaker 2: who was always an Islander target. You know, he was traded,
- 20:26Speaker 2: so we could see a couple of more of those
- 20:29Speaker 2: type of things. Even tonight, Well, the Islanders traded their
- 20:33Speaker 2: thirteenth pick for an established player. Maybe maybe. I mean,
- 20:39Speaker 2: let's face it, the Islander's two greatest assets are Soroken
- 20:44Speaker 2: and and Matthew Schaeffer.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Now that's the other most hated GM in the city
- 20:51Speaker 1: because I think turned his right up. There is Chris Jury,
- 20:54Speaker 1: and he of course trades Brett Barrard, and you know,
- 20:58Speaker 1: I really felt for that kid because he was sent up,
- 21:01Speaker 1: he was sent down, he was throwing this. I mean,
- 21:04Speaker 1: they didn't have a consistent plan for him whatsoever, Louis.
- 21:07Speaker 1: It just was I think the kids got potential. So
- 21:10Speaker 1: he goes to Montreal and I guess that's a big
- 21:13Speaker 1: move in a sense because now I think the Ranger
- 21:16Speaker 1: got a draft pick. But I mean, should Ranger fans
- 21:19Speaker 1: be excited today?
- 21:20Speaker 2: I don't even know if you should be excited because
- 21:23Speaker 2: they do have the fifth pick, so they should get
- 21:27Speaker 2: somebody who's almost NHL ready, or they might get somebody that,
- 21:32Speaker 2: as they say, plug and play, somebody will draft tonight
- 21:35Speaker 2: and we'll be on the roster on on the opening day.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Uh roster. Could that happen? Yeah, that that can happen,
- 21:43Speaker 2: but we'll have to you know, we'll have to see
- 21:45Speaker 2: what happens happens tonight. Uh. Again, the Rangers are under,
- 21:51Speaker 2: you know, under a lot of pressure. And don't think
- 21:54Speaker 2: the fact that they're the team that that probably had
- 21:58Speaker 2: their offices down the whole all the way from the
- 22:00Speaker 2: Ranger offices. Don't think that doesn't put pressure on the
- 22:04Speaker 2: Ranger organization because they're both on by the same by
- 22:08Speaker 2: the same guy. He didn't get fired on the parade stage.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I thought, don't want to do that. I was, I
- 22:15Speaker 1: was way off on that. So you know, look, you're right,
- 22:18Speaker 1: the pressure is on the Rangers. I mean, if you
- 22:21Speaker 1: just over the garden now and see all the memorabilia,
- 22:24Speaker 1: the banners, I'll take twenty twenty six NBA champions if
- 22:28Speaker 1: I'm a Ranger player looking at that, I'd be as
- 22:32Speaker 1: motivated as Jackson Dart across the river, because I think
- 22:34Speaker 1: Dart's pretty motivated that he saw the Knicks.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Do this and he wants to do something like that
- 22:40Speaker 2: for the Giants. But anyway, if if I'm a player
- 22:43Speaker 2: of the.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Rangers, I look at that and I say, wait a minute,
- 22:46Speaker 1: we should have that scaffold, we should have that banner
- 22:49Speaker 1: up there, you know what I mean. So maybe they'll
- 22:51Speaker 1: motivate them a lot more. So we'll see.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Well, I mean, they're going to be aware of it,
- 22:55Speaker 2: that's for sure. I also think that the Devils are
- 22:59Speaker 2: going to be very active in the next two three weeks.
- 23:01Speaker 2: I mean they traded you know, Simon minche Nimic the
- 23:06Speaker 2: other day for you know, some future draft picks to
- 23:11Speaker 2: Calgary and you know, they need a goalie. Will they
- 23:16Speaker 2: be involved in the Clutterbuck situation and that's the big
- 23:20Speaker 2: thing now, all of all these American players want to
- 23:22Speaker 2: leave Canada. We'll see if that, if that is a trend.
- 23:28Speaker 2: You know, Brady could Chook going to Florida. Yes, they
- 23:32Speaker 2: got multiple draft picks Otherwood did, but that's a great trade.
- 23:36Speaker 2: A great trade for Florida. And you know, Brady could chook.
- 23:40Speaker 2: You know, he's he He drove the trade. He gave
- 23:44Speaker 2: him a short list of we was going to go
- 23:46Speaker 2: and Florida is one of them. And let's face it,
- 23:48Speaker 2: everybody knows he was gonna live in Florida because of
- 23:51Speaker 2: his brother. And I think, you know, as we said
- 23:55Speaker 2: earlier in the season, when we knew that Florida was
- 23:57Speaker 2: going to miss the playoffs, the best thing for Laura
- 24:00Speaker 2: to reboot and get back to be a Stanley Cup
- 24:03Speaker 2: contender was having these two months off that they didn't play.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I mean, the last three years they play an additional
- 24:09Speaker 2: six months of knockdown, drag out playoff hockey. They played.
- 24:14Speaker 2: They played twelve extra a series that knocks the hell
- 24:18Speaker 2: out of you physically. You know, it'll have Barkoff from
- 24:22Speaker 2: the whole season, one of the best players in the world.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Back Matthew Kachuck, who miss half the season, is going
- 24:27Speaker 2: to be there from day one. Now they have Brady.
- 24:30Speaker 2: There's some questions about will Sergey Barbrowski be their goaltender,
- 24:35Speaker 2: will they go after Jordan Bennington. I don't think Jordan
- 24:37Speaker 2: Binnington even now is as good as a thirty seven
- 24:39Speaker 2: year old Bobrowski. I know he didn't have a good year,
- 24:42Speaker 2: but needed did the Florida Panthers. So will will the
- 24:47Speaker 2: Devil's get involved with some of these goalies? Will they
- 24:49Speaker 2: trade Markstrom? Who has you know, Jacob Markson starts a
- 24:53Speaker 2: two year extension this year. He was not good for
- 24:55Speaker 2: the for the Devils last year. I'm surprised that Sheldon
- 24:59Speaker 2: Keith is still the coach. I thought he would be fired,
- 25:01Speaker 2: but I would say he's now on a very short leash.
- 25:04Speaker 2: But uh, I think the next month is going to
- 25:07Speaker 2: be something that's going to be very interesting for all
- 25:11Speaker 2: three teams. And I think this weekend is going to
- 25:13Speaker 2: be interesting. Tonight might be interesting.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Well, Louis will have to see now a couple of
- 25:18Speaker 1: cultural things before we wrap up here. And you know,
- 25:24Speaker 1: I'm an avid Fanatics guy. I promote them a lot.
- 25:27Speaker 1: But Modell's could be coming back. Can you believe this?
- 25:30Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I was listening. You know, you were on
- 25:33Speaker 2: there the other night with mister Idell and mister Modell
- 25:37Speaker 2: Mitchell Modell, who was a big supporter of NETS basketball
- 25:41Speaker 2: when when I was with the Nets organization. Uh, yeah,
- 25:45Speaker 2: I guess he wants to come back with with I guess, uh,
- 25:49Speaker 2: some brick and mortar stores and some online business. So
- 25:52Speaker 2: we'll have to wait and see. But obviously Modell's this
- 25:55Speaker 2: was a staple when it came to sporting goods in
- 25:57Speaker 2: the in the Northeast where I got my.
- 25:59Speaker 1: First skate Louis as people now know.
- 26:01Speaker 2: So yeah, I heard, I heard you say that on
- 26:05Speaker 2: the on the broadcast that when I was listening.
- 26:10Speaker 1: So we'll see. But the other cultural thing is unless
- 26:12Speaker 1: it's changed now with all the weather whatever's Uh, there's
- 26:16Speaker 1: like og On Andobi scheduled to throughout the first pitch
- 26:18Speaker 1: Sunday for the Mets.
- 26:21Speaker 2: That's pretty cool that it will.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Be at City Field with.
- 26:25Speaker 2: They have celebrities now, Alex they are the kings.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Of New York right now, there's no doubt about it.
- 26:30Speaker 2: So absolutely, and they should. They should soak it all
- 26:35Speaker 2: in because there's no guarantee. Uh, you know, you gotta
- 26:39Speaker 2: get another shot at it, So definitely soak it in
- 26:42Speaker 2: right now.
- 26:43Speaker 1: And uh and following following arms and I'm gonna upload
- 26:48Speaker 1: a conversation I had with a woman in horse racing,
- 26:51Speaker 1: Amber Farcas. I met her up at Saratoga, and she's
- 26:54Speaker 1: got quite a story in horse racing. But I bring
- 26:56Speaker 1: that up because if there are any avid horse racing face,
- 27:00Speaker 1: you got to get up to the big A this weekend.
- 27:02Speaker 1: It's the final meets for Aqueduct after one hundred and
- 27:06Speaker 1: thirty two years, Louis, I mean, it's.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Gonna be a ten week surprise. Yeah, you're right, one
- 27:13Speaker 2: hundred and thirty two years. I'm surprised that hasn't gotten
- 27:16Speaker 2: more notoriety in the metropolitan area.
- 27:19Speaker 1: And you know, I got to post it on Instagram too,
- 27:22Speaker 1: But Bellamy Road's gonna have a race named in his honor.
- 27:26Speaker 1: And of course people that may not know Bellamy Road
- 27:30Speaker 1: won the wo Memorial and he was George Steinberner's horse,
- 27:34Speaker 1: and now he's got a race named after him in
- 27:38Speaker 1: this final weekend. So I think that's pretty cool. And
- 27:42Speaker 1: you know, as you know, we've had a deep history
- 27:43Speaker 1: with Nyris since two thousand and three. My dad and
- 27:46Speaker 1: I and I got to see a lot of jockeys
- 27:47Speaker 1: when I was up in Saratoga a few weeks ago.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I mean, it just it will be an emotional weekend
- 27:52Speaker 1: because I spent a lot of winters there. But I
- 27:54Speaker 1: think the Rasino kind of pushed them out. I really
- 27:57Speaker 1: feel like that was the case here.
- 27:58Speaker 2: I could be wrong, but now you're probably right, Alex.
- 28:02Speaker 2: And the thing is nothing stays the same. You know
- 28:04Speaker 2: you heard the big media thing this week north of
- 28:07Speaker 2: the border Hockey Night in Canada after seventy four years
- 28:10Speaker 2: is is no no more Hockey Night in Canada. You know,
- 28:15Speaker 2: an institution and that's gone. All Canadian hockey will be.
- 28:22Speaker 2: You have to have streaming or cable. No more, no
- 28:24Speaker 2: more hockey on CBC. So nothing stays the same.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Nope, nope, nothing except we always get Tominado's take that
- 28:35Speaker 1: never changes, so that's always a good thing.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Well, I I appreciate that, Alex, thank you so much
- 28:42Speaker 2: real quick. The Bucks trading at the Koupo to Boston,
- 28:48Speaker 2: I don't know what to make of it, I really don't.
- 28:49Speaker 2: I don't know if it's gonna help Boston that much
- 28:52Speaker 2: or well, we won't know until down the road. And
- 28:54Speaker 2: how much is gonna help Milwaukee, I mean to Miami.
- 28:59Speaker 2: I don't know how much's gonna help Miami. Obviously Boston
- 29:03Speaker 2: was in on it, and uh they had Jalen Brown
- 29:07Speaker 2: in on it, and now it looks like that the
- 29:10Speaker 2: fact that they put Brown out there, Brown looks like
- 29:13Speaker 2: he's going to be traded somewhere sooner than later because
- 29:16Speaker 2: uh that rift of being you know, dangled out there
- 29:21Speaker 2: for a nettakupo is uh uh you know that wound
- 29:26Speaker 2: is it's fresh. Yeah, so uh you know, so I
- 29:30Speaker 2: don't know.
- 29:31Speaker 1: They won, and I tell you if they if Kyrie
- 29:35Speaker 1: doesn't get stept on, that changes the Wholes Conference semifinals.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely absolutely does. Remember they were down to nothing.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Then that's robbed to nothing in that series. One thing
- 29:45Speaker 2: before I forget and I'm jumping jumping on one last
- 29:48Speaker 2: thing and then then you could we could we can
- 29:50Speaker 2: wrap this up. Last week, I made I misspoke when
- 29:54Speaker 2: I said the Carolina Panthers like the Carolina Hurricanes. Uh
- 29:58Speaker 2: where the eighth the eighth different in the Stanley Cup
- 30:01Speaker 2: champion the last eight years. I got that mixed up.
- 30:04Speaker 2: I meant I meant to say the Knicks for the
- 30:06Speaker 2: eighth different champion in the last eight years. So I
- 30:10Speaker 2: just wanted to clear that up. I know last week
- 30:12Speaker 2: we did the we did the podcast slagh that night,
- 30:14Speaker 2: so uh maybe I uh uh was a little a
- 30:18Speaker 2: little tied at that.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Time, maybe so well, louis always a pleasure getting you
- 30:23Speaker 1: on Toterminilo's take, and a lot has happened, but for
- 30:27Speaker 1: now I'm Alex Garrett. That's Terminiello's take at one look
- 30:31Speaker 1: up Alex Media and uh, I'm sure we're talking before
- 30:34Speaker 1: Happy Fourth of July.
- 30:35Speaker 2: But we're almost there, Lous, We're almost at the fourth
- 30:38Speaker 2: America's coming. I'm looking forward to it. Alex, thank you
- 30:42Speaker 2: so much, as always a pleasure.
- 30:43Speaker 1: My friend. Talk to you soon.
