- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning From the soggy, wet, drippy porch and
- 0:34farm. We are overlooking everything it
- 0:38poured last night in ways that I have never really seen.
- 0:42Rain come down. It was insane.
- 0:44And our rain gardens which had finally emptied.
- 0:47And I was so excited about the fact that they were emptied so I
- 0:50could get in there and put some new stuff in to grow up that
- 0:54will grow in the water. Now I need waiters to get in
- 0:58there filled up. It's probably to give you an
- 1:01idea, I'm 59 and it's probably like up to my knees or a little
- 1:08above my knees right now with the water in them.
- 1:10It is a lot. But anyway, the girls are out.
- 1:13They are having a ball because they love this kind of weather.
- 1:16We have random other little rain gardens that just pop up in the
- 1:21little low lying areas of the property and so they will spend
- 1:25all day with wet feet, faces in the water and digging for bugs
- 1:29and are gloriously happy. And they took off the second I
- 1:32opened the gate. So I decided we'll go from the
- 1:35porch today. So the lesson today in all of
- 1:38this Obviously always being flexible and always saying OK
- 1:42because it's still raining and just thinking about like the fun
- 1:47and interesting things that happen out here on the farm.
- 1:50Constantly teach me about the fact that I have to be flexible.
- 1:55I have to be less rigid in how things happen because I am
- 2:00extremely pattern driven. I love to be able to do the same
- 2:05thing at the same time and check it off my list and make sure
- 2:08that I have it done. Sometimes that causes more
- 2:12strife than you need. Sometimes it causes the amount
- 2:15of stress that just puts you through the roof.
- 2:17Because unfortunately, when you don't get to do it, your brain
- 2:20starts to, you know, shake and go insane because, Oh no, we
- 2:25need to get it done. We need to get it done.
- 2:27And and it doesn't serve in a very highway for the greater
- 2:31good of being peaceful. It causes stress.
- 2:34So the lesson that I have had to teach myself in all of this is
- 2:39what what's great about this? What can be great about this?
- 2:42Because sometimes if I ask myself the questions, you know
- 2:44what's great about this? The instant answer is nothing,
- 2:48and that's the truth from the emotion that I'm driving with in
- 2:50that moment. But if I stop and I pause and I
- 2:53try to put my hippie chick Zen girl in the driver, I can't,
- 2:57which I can do When I stop and pause, doesn't mean she's not
- 3:00going to slip back out and everybody else is going to jump
- 3:03back in the seat. But when I put her in, I have a
- 3:07different perspective almost instantaneously, and apparently
- 3:11he agrees with me on that. So I I recognize that when I
- 3:16call upon that and I pull it up and I say something like that
- 3:21and I put myself into the position of knowing that she is
- 3:25capable of staying cool about all of this.
- 3:28Just like the best laid plans for this.
- 3:30You know, entire time I had laid out, OK, when am I going to do
- 3:34my plantings? How am I going to put things in?
- 3:36What's going to happen? You know, this is for me.
- 3:40This is such a thing where I am calendar driven right now
- 3:43because I want to get everything in the ground and I want to be
- 3:45on time, but who the hell am I being on time for?
- 3:48You know? It's ridiculous.
- 3:49It's my calendar, it's my schedule.
- 3:52Who am I being on time for? Well, what happens if I'm two
- 3:56weeks later putting plants in? Is it going to kill me?
- 4:00No. Is it going to kill them?
- 4:01No. I have to be flexible, and the
- 4:05only way I can do that is to consistently remind myself that
- 4:08the outcomes are outcomes. I've created their outcomes,
- 4:12that I have requested their outcomes that I have put there,
- 4:16and that I can also be the one that shifts them.
- 4:18I can be the one that shifts them.
- 4:20So I need to recalibrate where my directional focus is going
- 4:26and keep reminding myself of that.
- 4:27Or even better, before I even step into any of this headspace,
- 4:32I stop and say, OK, who do I want to present as the driver
- 4:36today? So for instance, once I realized
- 4:39what was going on with this storm and everything, I chose to
- 4:43say, OK, I know I'm going to have to utilize her.
- 4:47That doesn't mean I didn't have to switch 20 times already,
- 4:49because I did, because there's part of me that's so hard wired
- 4:53to just go and get it done. Because I know that I if I get
- 4:57the jump, I always like to be first.
- 5:00I always want to get there first.
- 5:01I always want to be the one that's there ahead of time.
- 5:04That is a part of my hard wiring, and it's a difficult
- 5:07part for me because sometimes being first is not always the
- 5:10best. You know it it, it clearly
- 5:13isn't. But in my head it must be.
- 5:16So I have to keep driving for that.
- 5:18But sometimes it's great when you wait.
- 5:20Last year, I was a little later putting plants in the garden.
- 5:23And you know what? I didn't get hit with the frost
- 5:25because I was a little later. Now the year before, I went out
- 5:29all in early, put stuff outside, and I got lucky.
- 5:34I got very lucky because we didn't get hit with anything and
- 5:38and the gamble paid off, but had the gamble that.
- 5:40But I went into it knowing it was a gamble and I said to
- 5:42myself, you may lose everything, OK, great, I may lose
- 5:45everything. I had it down.
- 5:47I knew it. I was going to be OK with it.
- 5:49So the point of today is make sure you understand that you've
- 5:53got to be flexible in choosing the driver.
- 5:56You've got to be flexible in your approach and you've got to
- 5:58be on point picking the driver you want ahead of time because
- 6:03that's what's going to serve you on the highest level.
- 6:06Pick the driver ahead of time. Pick that emotional state you
- 6:09want to go into it with. And then you can say to yourself
- 6:11like I do. Listen, you said you were going
- 6:13to be flexible. Does this sound flexible?
- 6:14Does this sound like your hippie chick Zen girl is driving?
- 6:17No. Then stop.
- 6:18Change it. Put her back in the seat.
- 6:21Then see how you feel. OK, my friends, I hope you have
- 6:24a blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 6:25Bye.
